GUYS I DID IT. The fake ROTTMNT Usagi crossover has been completed!! Guys this took me FOREVER. FOR. EVER. And I also hated every single second of it I have no idea how the animators did this shit.

Anyways, here’s the full fake screenshot but I got lazy and didn’t add anything else. I wanted to design him more based on the 2003 TMNT series Miyamoto Usagi crossover just because I feel like those vibes fit best. Also I love 2003 Usagi and am so completely biased bc that show SLAPPED. BUT ANYWAYS. I have a lot of lore for him and then my own little design with my headcanons, but that’s for another day. I wanted to draw him a bit more modern looking for Rise, and the turtles age (like 2003), but didn’t want to take away too much from his design. Maybe I’ll draw him in another fit. Either way, for my first attempt, I don’t think it was half bad! Replicating the ROTTMNT art style was super difficult. It’s a lot different from how I typically like to draw, and it was a challenge trying to do it. I had fun despite wanting to pull my hair out and cry and rethink my hobbies several times during this drawing. (I just called it quits here because I could have kept redrawing and messing with it for another twenty years.)

Of course, tribute to 2003, they meet Usagi in the battle nexus because I SAID SO. I also saw that thing about the other hidden cities around the ROTTMNT world and thought the concept of a hidden city in Japan, probably called like Hidden Edo or some shit, could work as an in-universe explanation. The other dimension thing is also cool though, since I love the Usagi Yojimbo universe.

Anyways, I am working on some more fake screenshots, and maybe I’ll properly introduce more of my ROTTMNT Usagi if you guys like this!

The night has only just begun as Wonho takes the stage as the second act of Detroit, Michigan’s IHeartRadio Jingle Ball. But while he paints the stage with precise choreography and fills the space with dulcet vocals, all eyes are on him. His dualistic artistry lends something magnetic to his performance, something that thoroughly charms both fans and spectators alike. 

These days, it’s a busy life for this charmer. As soon as Wonho was discharged from the military last September, he hit the ground running. Two performances in Seoul; an appearance at a K-pop festival in Mexico City; and most recently, an eventful trip around the USA. For Wonho, the better part of December was spent traversing the United States. He split his time between his very first American solo tour, and a run of appearances at the massive Jingle Ball tour, sharing a stage with big names such as Jason Derulo, Madison Beer. and NCT Dream. 

Throughout his stint in the United States, Wonho promoted his latest release, ‘What Would You Do?’ an English track imbued with heartbreak. Much like Wonho himself, the track has been met with warm reception from fans and non-fans alike. 

Shortly after leaving the stage, the sound of Detroit’s raucous cheers still roaring behind him, Wonho met with CLASH backstage at Little Caesars Arena for some exclusive portraits and a chat.

So you’re back, and you’ve been busy. You had your fan party in Seoul, performed in Mexico, and now you’re on your first United States solo tour. How has everything been going?

Wonho: I’ve been busy, but it’s fine. I’m so happy. My fans make me happy. 

You’ve also been performing at some dates of the Jingle Ball tour. Because the crowds at Jingle Ball are mixed with many fans of different artists, how has that experience been, versus performing at your own shows?

W: For my fans, at my own shows, I like to show a lot of different things and focus a lot on interacting with each other. At things like Jingle Ball, I like to show more of my original self and who I am. Not that it’s very different from one another. Here, though, I saw that the fans were enjoying it and having a fun time. I saw that there were NCT fans in the crowd who were enjoying it as well, so I’m very grateful.

What sort of feeling do you want to leave your fans or attendees with after seeing a Wonho show?

W: I want the time that we spend together, the emotions, and the time we share, to be something that fans can really focus and concentrate on. I want it to be something where (in the future), even if there is similar weather, they will be reminded of that good memory. 

What is your favorite song of yours to perform, and why?

W: Today, my favourite to perform was ‘Ain’t About You’. The choreography has a lot of freedom. It doesn’t matter if I move to the left, to the right, we just play and let the energy flow. 

In addition to your fans, Wenee, what do you love most about performing?

W: This is the work that I love. I think it’s a similar feeling to when someone creates or designs something, and they’re just about to unveil it. It’s a very exciting feeling. When I prepare different performances and songs, that excitement of showing it off to people is something that I love. 

You’ve just released a new song, the English single ‘What Would You Do?’. Could you tell us a bit about that song?

W: This is my first try at an R&B song, so I put a lot of emotion into it. It’s a song that I think shows more of myself, and shows off more of my vocals. As soon as I first listened to it, I liked it.

How would you describe your music to someone who has never listened to it before? 

W: A good question, but very difficult to say. I think it might feel like homework to describe my music. Going forward, I would like to show instead of telling, by releasing a lot of good songs. My goal is for someone to get to know me through my music.

Looking back into the past, was there a particular moment that you realized you wanted to be an artist?

W: There was never a specific moment where I felt like this was what I wanted to do. Moreso, it was as if the world and my circumstances shaped me into the artist that I am today. 

And moving forward, what are some things you’d like to try that you haven’t yet, musically?

W: I would like to try a rock genre, but to be honest, it doesn’t really matter what I’m trying. I just want to try new and different things. For example, when doing a softer track, I incorporated a lot of drill elements. I don’t want to be confined to a genre – I just want to make new and good music. 

What does the future look like for you? What do you want to accomplish, whether that be as an artist, or as a person?

W: To be honest, I don’t really think about the future. I usually think about three things: Yesterday, today, and tomorrow. The things I do today will help prepare for tomorrow, and I try to improve from the regrets of yesterday. It might be kind of cliche, but I always try to be better today than yesterday. I’m working on my album for 2025, and I want to continue showing new and better sides of myself through that album.

Any final notes you would like to share?

W: I will be releasing my new album in February or March…maybe? I’ll work hard to prepare. Until then, please show a lot of love to ‘What Would You Do?’.

GOD I absolutely agree re:werewolf tropes, especially in romance. I want to read so many werewolf books, but So Many play into pack dynamics/violent werewolf bf/etc etc tropes that it feels nigh impossible to find something that will Hit for me specifically. Do you (or anyone who stumbles upon this) have any recs for werewolf media? Particularly that which is outside of romance as the main plot/genre? (Nothing against romance as a whole, I just don't tend to enjoy it when it's the main focus of a story)

god yeah im the exact same, its why i usually end up gravitating more towards horror werewolves cause at least then i dont normally have to worry about weird alpha boyfriend tropes lol. But that means i dont really have too many media recommendations! I'll put a couple thoughts under the read more, but if anyone has any recs, feel free to reply below 🙏

i don't have any book recommendations bc i havent read a real book in years so most of this will be movies/shows/comics

Being Human (US) is really good in a lot of places (one of my absolute favorite werewolf designs), but the last season really falls into a bunch of those werewolf bullshit tropes so i pretend it doesnt exist lol. i think the good bits outweigh the stupid though! I have also watched the UK version and its. not bad. i just didnt really get into it idk.

The Order 1886 barely feels like a werewolf game even though it is for sure a werewolf game lol. i would recommend just watching a playthru tho cause the gameplay is pretty much nothing but the plot and characters are very cool!!!!

Uhhhh everyone knows van helsing which is an objectively just an ok movie but the werewolves and vampires go so hard i have to like it. Dog Soldiers is also a fun campy flick, and i enjoyed werewolves within but thats more of a mystery than a genuine werewolf movie. Annndddd i did actually like the wolf man 2025 like. its gonna piss a lot of werewolf fans off i think and i know why people dont like it but i think the ideas and themes it presents are really interesting to me specifically! so idk if the individual werewolf enjoyer will like it in the same way i did but i will recommend it if u like werewolves that really lean into the disease/virus aspect of it.

Wilde Life is a webcomic that i really enjoy that is.... werewolf adjacent. I wouldnt really call Cliff a werewolf, more of a shapeshifter, but they sometimes call him a werewolf so its close enough for me to mention it and theres lots of other cool critters and scary bits to make the comic worth recommending.

I dont think Prague Race (webcomic) is officially available anymore but that also had some fun werewolves in it. You can probably find an archive of it if you google the name (the artist's new comic, 'tiger, tiger' is also very good but has nothing to do with werewolves lol)

How to be a werewolf is another webcomic that does do a bunch of the pack dynamic trope but the characters are charming and has some romance but it isn't the primary plot, its more about family than anything. and a female werewolf main character is always a plus!

ok literally this is so niche and i probably shouldnt even bother mentioning it but i have sat on this fic for literally 8 years now and it makes me so sad the author never finished it but. one of the only werewolf fanfics ive ever read that i really clicked with was an overwatch hanzo/cassidy fic called 'spurs don't pair with scare chords' and i need to put it here bc its the platonic ideal of a werewolf fic with a well paced romance that isn't the major intrigue point. its my white whale of a fanfic and it being unfinished haunts me. i wish overwatch was good

National Treasure: Blu-ray of Secrets

Exploring the super secret(-ish) cast & director commentary

This year for Christmas I had asked for a new DVD of National Treasure, since the one I’ve had since circa 2005 is scratched and stops playing part way through.

My mom, lovely and indecisive person that she is, gifted me both the 2-disk ‘special edition’ DVD and the Blu-ray + DVD set.

That’s a lot of National Treasure. Excellent.

One thing that immediately stuck out to me, though, is that the back of the Blu-ray lists

Audio Commentary With Director Jon Turteltaub And Actor Justin Bartha

What?

How could I not have listened to this before?

Now, I am an absolute slut for a good cast commentary. My opinion on this was colored by the delightfully unhinged cast commentary on the 2002 Scooby-Doo movie. In it, all four of the principle cast members give behind-the-scenes anecdotes, tease each other, fawn over co-star Rowan Atkinson, and display exactly the personalities you think they will based on the characters they play in the movie.

To say this was pivotal to my understanding of movies and how movies work is an understatement.

But there is definitely no commentary on National Treasure.

Right?

Right???

Well, yes and no. ↓

My memory was absolutely correct that there is no full movie commentary on the National Treasure DVD. (This includes the 2-disk collectors edition).

There is, however, a full movie commentary on the Blu-ray.

(All versions have director’s commentary on the deleted scenes, but what we’re talking about is “let’s sit down and watch the whole movie/episode and talk over it.”)

It’s director Jon Turteltaub and everybody’s favorite guy, Justin Bartha talking over the entire movie.

Turteltaub gives behind-the-scenes tidbits while Bartha ribs him mercilessly for it.

It took me a few minutes to calibrate to this. Bartha’s sense of humor is mummifyingly dry. Take Riley and bake him in the oven on its lowest setting for a few hours dry.

Their banter is fun though, and it’s clear they’re pretty close by this point. You can tell by the way they discuss the sequel that this commentary was recorded after Book of Secrets was filmed, but before it was finished and released.

That answers the question as to why it’s on the Blu-ray but not the DVD. It was only recorded three-ish years after the first movie was released. Specifically during the WGA strike, which ran Nov 5, 2007-Feb 10, 2008.

I, a person interested in movie production, could actually have done with more “here’s-how-we-did-this,” but the commentary is a fun mix of behind the scenes and nonsense.

Fun tidbits include:

The stool young Ben uses in the attic was designed by Benjamin Franklin

Most of Riley's lines were initially cut, but he tested so well in focus groups that they put everything they had back in the final film

Ben has a "unique set of characteristics" for an action-adventure protagonist (today we call that autism)

Justin chose a half-goatee because he thinks Riley can't grow a full one

And lots of other notes I cannot read!

JB: You know of all the movies I've been in, and there's been at least six movies, people come up and say it's their favorite movie. They love it. They love this movie. JT: Do you think that's because it's just that kind of movie you love, or because your other six movies just weren't very good? JB: A little of both. A little of both. But I think it's just maybe attributed to your brilliant direction. JT: Well thank you. I would say I have a different experience. What I get is people come up-- JB: --people come up and hit you-- JT: --people come up to me and say "You directed National Treasure? That's one of my kid's favorite movies." Nobody tends to like my movies but their kids love 'em. JB: Well I'll tell you what happens is, children? They grow up. They become adults. And you know what it'll still love? National Treasure. Hiya! Based on your tags you have listened to A Lot of audio drama and I'm always looking for some expertise to help with my decisions making process sooo- What's your Top 5? The MUST listen to list iyo? (and a bit of why if you're so inclined)

Boy I sure do listen to A Lot of audio drama. Here’s my top five!! (Ranked in overall composition terms, not necessarily on How Much I Love the Characters or Plot— let me know if you want plot description???? I’m mostly ranking from an overall level rn).

1. The Silt Verses. 5/5 stars. Beautifully written, excellently executed. The characters and plots are all immersive and all realistic. Sound design on point (especially later). It’s the only podcast that has a 5/5 rating for me. I’m a huge fan of both character building and lore, and these feature heavily in this story. Jon and Muna produce wonderful work, and I sincerely think that whatever their next project looks like, though it will be different from TSV and their previous project I am in Eskew, it will be no less thoughtful or well-executed.

2. Red Valley. 4.5/5 stars. Speaking of character-centric work, this podcast is hugely character focused. Atmospheric, dealing with many of the ethical qualms The Silt Verses does in a wildly different way. More humorous than horror, no less bleak at times.

3. Old Gods of Appalachia. 4.5/5 stars. Huge fan of the deep work Steve and Cam do here on creating a rich narrative that has a cavern of family history and lore. I really enjoy the folklore of this area, and I really enjoy the anthology aspect of this show that slowly weaves together to create a delicate web as the podcast goes on.

4. Midnight Burger. 4.5/5 stars. Funny, humorous on purpose, which makes it a standout on this list because most of them are more serious horror centric ones. Character focused, but also so so clever, Joe creates just a caring environment for his fans and for the characters. It celebrates the weird, celebrates the combination of fiction and physics and comedy and philosophy. Hopeful, human, lovely.

5. The only other 4.5s on my list that I have to make a combo of, I’m sorry I’m not sticking to the technical limit of five!

-Malevolent: Produced, written, and acted by one man, contains some of my favorite tropes and makes Lovecraft fun for me.

-The Magnus Archives (not Protocol): You can’t avoid TMA on tumblr audio drama spaces, so I’m sure its presence is unsurprising. At the time I listened, it was my first exposure to anthology work in an audio drama medium. If I listened to it now, who knows! But I had to stay true to my rankings.

-Ghost Wax: Hugely original concept written by passionate and creative creators. Anthology once again, with more complex lore and thoughtful composition.

-SCP: Find Us Alive: I think the character work draws me most strongly to this show.

Honorable mentions: Ethics Town and Camlann.

This map was just okay to me. There's nothing really special about it. The song is kind of basic as well. The lines in the background during the drop are kinda ugly. Cad's design feels like they just put random shapes into shirts and pants. Maybe it's just not for me, but this routine is just so... Boring. Like I don't feel the need to know more about Cad or get invested with this choreo. 3/10 5. This Is How We Do (Fitness Version)

(wow the background really botches her earrings) Anyway, I feel the same way about this as I do about Feel So Close, although not as much. While it is somewhat boring, it's not in the sense where I feel like it's missed potential, and we could've gotten much better. I do appreciate the routine for what it is, though. But what it is isn't a lot. 5/10 4. Juice

This routine is cute! I love it! Random headcanon: I feel like Brezziana knows these coaches. Maybe P2 also is an influencer. I had a lot more fun playing this routine, and definitely felt the 'I wanna see more of this!' feeling that Feels So Close and TIHWD didn't really get for me. 7/10 3. i like the way you kiss me

LOVE the coach designs here!! But... I'm not the appeal for this song. I don't have the 'runaway car band' aesthetic this map is going for, but I still appreciate it! I don't mind the choreo being repetitive, but I do wish they switched up after the first chorus, since all the moves are the same after it. I think they could've at least changed the outro a little. Oh well. 8/10 2. Rabiosa (Fitness Version)

Yasss queen! I love the flow and energy of this map. The background is a little quirky, but in a good way. It reminds me of those self-care note apps, and this is a fitness routine, so... I guess it works? But it works WELL! I wish they gave the other 2 returning maps a name, but I get why they didn't... It's because they're lazy! I'ma catch them

UGHHHH! I loveeeee this one! The teen mall aesthetic, the brat shirt (even though the fitness text is a little cringe but who cares), Julia, everything decorated in her room, the way it gets digitized, the second part when she's in that pixel field, the intro with the planes, the outro with the the apple outline, it's just so great!!! I do wish they used the TikTok dance, but I understand why they didn't. It's probably a nightmare to try and license and that's okay lol

10/10 Overall: Our first song pack for Just dance!! The songpack is great, but... I miss the hype seasons had. We'd have a buildup, things to look forward to, actual trailers... Now it's just a lifeless "take it all or leave it" cash grab. We didn't even get achievements for any of the maps or anything. I guess I'm not surprised, I hope the budget ubi has is doing okay. I also think that none of the new maps have anything to do with Fitness, except Feel So Close... and we saw how that turned out. :( But I still have hope for the future! I believe everything will go well.

In the cowboy swap au, Ceroba is actually the Sheriff and leader of the Feisty Five. Clover is still the Deputy and goes by “Lucky Star”. He loves hanging around town with his Mama ☺️. I haven’t come up with a cool cowboy name for Ceroba yet, although she probably wouldn’t use one :/

Mod Owl lore: I used to be an artist for an original closed adoptables species called Wuffies on a niche rp forum board and I've been thinking about them again recently, so I thought i'd doodle Grian as a wuffy. Bonus fun fact - wuffies do not usually have wings, but I was the only person to ever get a wuffy with wings cause it was a birthday present from the species owner and I still have it :3 It would feel criminal to not give Grian wings though
