Different Italian anon, but the thing with Tuscan C is that it's pronounced like a very strong H sound, which is extra weird cuz the letter H makes no sound in Italian, normally. It sounds the way Spanish pronounce the J. We say it's "aspirato". So then people from there will say things like Hoha Hola (coca cola), and it's funny. It's also extremely contagious, I got family in Florence, you spend 3 days with them you start doing it too before you even realize.
.
#that sounds really endearing actually#answered#anonymous#this is entirely beside the point but I still feel sort of bamboozled by languages that have silent letters#or when letters have multiple pronunciations that vary wildly from word to word#and when the sound and the letter don't seem to match like how J sounds very close to H in Spanish like you mentioned#I'm generalizing a little but none of these are really a thing in Finnish#in Finnish words are pretty much always pronounced the way they are written if that makes sense#I don't know the language terminology but I think phonetic spelling is what you call it#each letter represents a specific sound and you string those together#when you hear a word you can always tell how it's written and when you read a word you know how to pronounce it#even if you're encountering the word for the first time and have no idea what it means#it's comparatively direct and predictable there's practically no need for guessing or memorizing#also the stress is always on the first syllabe and it's so subtle it might as well not be there at all#which sometimes makes spoken Finnish and Finnish accent sound kind of monotonous there isn't a lot of intonation#I was extremely confused by the concept of spelling bees as a kid#anyway long tag ramble but this stuff is just interesting to me

My top 3 most insane interactions with the Finnish professional theatre community:
1) When a representative of [redacted] told me to take down my post with a cookie I had decorated to resemble a character in their musical, for I had edited a photo of said character next to the cookie, and that was unauthorized use of their promotional photography
2) The whole blackface debacle of 2016
3) When [redacted] from [redacted] accused me of making a two-part podcast episode (about a very wide-spread issue) just to accuse/insult them
Fun times!! Never forget, forgiveness handled on a case-by-case basis.
#extra fun fact: 1 and 2 were the same theatre#the last one is the least insane because I guess the stereotype about the size of creative people's egos has some roots in reality#anyways! sometimes I hate it here#and none of this is even touching upon the actual most insane thing because that's just all [redacted] from start to finish#but maybe one day I will write a book about all this... The Sorrows of Young Finnish Musical Fan or something like that#ihmisraunio.

I actually really like the thing when you're starting to get the hang of a new language, enough to understand and say simple sentences but you gotta get creative to get more complex thoughts across, like a puzzle. I remember a time in the restortation school when a classmate who wasn't natively finnish but did her best anyway dropped something and sighed, telling me "every day is monday this week. I have had four mondays this week." And I understood.
I don't think I speak much of spanish anymore, but in the nursing school training period I did there, I did manage to get by with making weird Tarzan sentences. I got a nosebleed at some point and startled another nurse. Not knowing the words for "nosebleed", "humidity", or "stress", I managed to string together: "This is ok. It is hot, it is cold, I have a bad day, I am sad, I have blood. This is normal for me." And she understood.
And sometimes you just say things weird, but it's better than not saying it. One time, I was stuck in a narrow hallway behind someone walking really slowly with a walker, and he apologised for being in the way. I was not in any hurry, but didn't know the spanish word for "hurry", but I did know enough words to try to circumvent it by borrowing the english "I have all the time in the world."
The man burst into one of those cackling old man laughters that they do when something in this world still manages to surprise them. He had to be somewhere between 70 and a 100 years old, and I guess if there was one thing he wasn't expecting to hear today, it would be a random blond vaguely baltic-looking fuck casually announce that he is the sole keeper and master of the very concept of time.

#red rambles#this is about Soil of the Grave and Ruumiinmultaa by Korpiklaani#which are literally just the Finnish version of the song and then the English translated version#because i guess that was a thing they did on this album#and yesterday while i was cleaning my entire room i put the album on and. well. this morning i was like HUH this song long as hell also it#kinda sounds like they switch languages halfway through. what's up with th- oh

The Pittsburgh Penguins name a PWHL team
Alex Nedeljkovic: I'm bad at making stuff up but what's coming to my head is bridges. They're gold. I was going to say the Golden Arches but now I'm thinking that's McDonald's.
Kris Letang: The Bumblebees.
Rickard Rakell: Pittsburgh Deers. There's a lot of deers here.
Sidney Crosby: Oh! What about the Power? That was the arena football team. I like that.
Cody Glass: I would say the Steel, but the Steelers are already here.
Noel Acciari: I think the Prime, like it sounds like Primanti's.
Michael Bunting: Something with Heinz. We have Steel for the Steelers, and Heinz started here. Something to do with that. Ketchup, mustard, I don't know.
Joel Blomqvist: It would need something to do with steel. Yeah, the Steelheads.
Bryan Rust: Something to do with the rivers ... Maybe like, the Three River Queens.
Phil Tomasino: It's the Steel City, right? So maybe the Pittsburgh Steel, Steel HC.
Jesse Puljujarvi: Pittsburgh ... Pittsburgh ... Pittsburgh ... Pittsburgh ... Pittsburgh ... Pittsburgh Cats (laughs hysterically).
Kevin Hayes: Pittsburgh has the Steelers, but Pittsburgh Steel. Like, Steel HC.
Matt Nieto: Maybe, like, the Tinkerbells. I have no idea! That's the first thing that came to mind.
Matt Grzelcyk: Honestly, I don't even have a guess right now. I haven't been here long enough to know the ins and outs of the city.
Anthony Beauvillier: What's a female penguin, or other kind of penguin? Maybe like the Puffins? Something like that.
P.O Joseph: Oh wow, Heinz maybe? The Heinz.
Valtteri Puustinen: Penguins in Finnish is Pingviinit. Maybe that! You have the Penguins and Pingviinit.
Blake Lizotte: The Sparrows. I don't know why, that's just what came to mind.
Ryan Shea: Thinking of other women's teams, I don't want to reuse names like, the Boston Pride. The first things that come to mind are like, bridges, steel. You could shorten the Steelers and be the Pittsburgh Steel, that sounds good and doesn't take away from the Steelers.
Ryan Graves: Something with the rivers ... The River Monsters.
Tristan Jarry: What's a baby Penguin called? A chick? The Pittsburgh Chicks.
Marcus Pettersson: The Bridges.
Drew O'Connor: The Monongahelas. Isn't that the river? Buccos would be a cool name, but they can't really do that because the Pirates go by that.
Jack St. Ivany: It's the City of Steel, but the Steelers use that. Something with the rivers? Pittsburgh Rivers.
Erik Karlsson: The Rivers. They can hire me, if they want. I can come up with a name for a couple hundred grand.

starting to feel really complicated about the upcoming Finnish production of Moulin Rouge!
#like. on the one hand I'm of course looking forward to it#but on the other hand. well. it's just that this is hardly my first rodeo.#I've seen some of my all-time favourite productions being redone by other theatres before and they're never as good#(with the possible exception of the Karlstad/Jönköping Les Mis I guess)#(but that was all about Alex being my fav + Philip Jalmelid delivering the most out of this world rendition of Stars I'll ever hear)#and then I'm just very prejudiced against the theatre that's staging the Finnish MR!#with one notable exception every musical I've seen on their big stage has felt... just a little bit soulless to me I guess#maybe it's just because that stage is so big and it always feels like theatre set up in an airplane hangar#or maybe it's because the type of audience they attract almost always gives off a certain slightly detached vibe#or maybe it's something about the way they work itself#or maybe it's all three!#but I'm a little worried that though it's by the same director the Finnish MR! experience simply won't compare favorably to the Swedish one#and then there's the weird feeling you get when it comes to these things... or at least *I* get when it comes to these things#if I'm right in my premonitions and I'll walk out thinking it doesn't hold a candle to the Swedish production that is#inevitably Finnish people are going to love the Finnish MR! and praise it because it's a good production no matter what#so then I'll be stuck in that weird mood#where I'll feel like everyone around me is watching the shadow and I'm the only person who's been outside the cave to see the Real Musical#and I know it's stuck up and silly to feel that way! and yet#oh man. just please let me see the u/s Zidler and I'll be too happy to even compare the rest of it to Stockholm#anyway!! I guess this is something I'll need to work through myself as a musical fan before I go see it#also maybe some fanart of the Swedish production? I've honestly been too exhausted the entire spring and summer to even think about that#but I'd like to draw something#maybe one day?#Moulin Rouge! posting

Lamest fucking thing ever that Christianity had to spread outside of Italy in Europe. We could've had Àsatru norse gods worship, Slavic paganism and Finnish nature worship and other super cool shit like that but nooooo. Jesus I guess.
(To specify since I don't want anyone getting offended over this: Worship who you want, this isn't a anti christianity post, I just think that it's really sad and lame that the spreading of christianity historically led to the complete erasure of a lot of countries' native history and culture, and wish it could've gone differently)
#i always play to keep the traditional religions in ck3 because the idea of repeating history makes me depressed#LEAVE JESUS OUT OF THIS LET HIM CHILL IN ITALY.#actually no give me back roman paganism that shit was so much cooler man

Can you write something fluffy, like meeting Kimi Raikkonen for the first time, maybe based on the song "Enchanted" by Taylor Swift ????? Please and thank you 😊
iceman and his sunshine (kr7)
the sterile white of the ferrari garage felt even colder as you nervously adjusted your headset. your first day as a junior engineer, and you were lucky enough to be assigned to the legendary kimi raikkonen. "iceman" they called him, known for his stoicism and monosyllabic interviews.
forcing laughter, faking smiles
suddenly, a figure loomed. tall, broad-shouldered, with an air of quiet intensity. it was kimi. you braced yourself, but before you could stammer a greeting, he surprised you.
"you must be the new one," he said, his voice surprisingly deep and warm. "y/n, right?"
"y-yes," you stammered, cheeks burning. "nice to meet you, kimi."
a flicker of a smile – a genuine one, crinkling the corners of his ice-blue eyes – played on his lips. "welcome to the team. don't worry, i won't bite… much."
your eyes whispered, "have we met?"
relief washed over you, replaced by a nervous giggle. the sound, light and airy, seemed to hang in the air. kimi tilted his head, a curious look in his eyes.
"you laugh easily," he observed, not unkindly.
you shrugged shyly. "n-not really. just… a bit nervous, i guess."
he gave a short, almost inaudible chuckle. "first day jitters. understandable."
the day flew by in a flurry of activity. you found yourself working alongside kimi, explaining telemetry data with a newfound confidence. he listened intently, occasionally asking sharp questions that pushed you to think harder. to your surprise, he even cracked a few jokes – dry, finnish humor that sent shivers down your spine for reasons that had nothing to do with the air conditioning.
later, as the team packed up, sebastian vettel, kimi's teammate, strolled over. a mischievous glint lit up his eyes.
i'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home
"someone seems talkative today, kimi," he teased, nudging kimi with his elbow.
kimi shot him a withering look. "just helping the newbie settle in, seb."
"helping, or… captivated?" seb wagged his eyebrows, earning a playful shove from kimi.
heat flooded your face. were they talking about you? you pretended to be engrossed in your notes, hoping the blush wouldn't betray you.
later that week, you found yourself alone with kimi in the garage, calibrating the car. you were about to apologize for a minor error you'd made when he spoke, surprising you once again.
"you know," he said, voice low, "that laugh of yours. it's… nice." he paused, fiddling with a wrench. "makes the whole damn garage feel less sterile."
all i can say is, i was enchanted to meet you
you stared at him, speechless. a blush crept up your neck.
"i… i just laugh easily," you mumbled, kicking a stray tire iron.
"not a bad thing," he said, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. he met your gaze and held it for a long moment, his blue eyes sending a jolt through you.
weeks turned into months. you and kimi fell into a comfortable rhythm, your laughter becoming a constant in the once-silent garage. he still had his moments of stoicism, but around you, he seemed… different. warmer.
one rainy afternoon, huddled under a shared umbrella, you found yourself confessing your feelings for him. he didn't reply immediately, just stared at you with that intense gaze. then, to your surprise, he cupped your face in his hand and pulled you into a kiss.
it was slow, hesitant at first, then deepened, the warmth of it a stark contrast to the cool rain. when he finally pulled away, a genuine smile spread across his face.
my thoughts will echo your name, until i see you again
"i thought i wanted to win races for the rest of my life," he murmured, his voice husky. "turns out, i just want to hear that laugh forever."
from then on, the ferrari garage wasn't just sterile white anymore. it was filled with the warmth of your shared laughter and the quiet hum of a love that bloomed amidst the roar of engines.
i was enchanted to meet you
