hi! if you're comfortable answering, how have you gone about pricing illustrations that have been for commercial use?

hello! i don't mind answering, though to be honest all my official illustration work is more contract based with the publisher since i've only done work on books so it hasn't been really up to me to figure out pricing so how it's worked has been in two ways for me so far: a bigger project with shared payment (can be 50/50, can be 30/70 depending on how much work you do etc), there's a payment in advance that's later taken out of the royalties that you get from the sales of the book and book cover illustration as a one time thing where once you finish your work you're then paid a lump sum payment for that, no royalties on the book itself (and i don't truly know how much people usually get for such projects, my first one paid me around 700 euros) i'm still very new to this kind of work and don't do it fulltime but i hope it can be little helpful?

wanted to say here too thanks to everyone that came by our table on saturday at kuplii!! even despite the table position stuff, we were asked to go elsewhere on short notice after setting up bc the organizers had put our table in front of a fire exit....... 😭 but i had such a wonderful time especially since it was my first time doing this ever, i'd love to do it again sometime!! thank you again 💚💚💚
