Desert Duo Doodles! I am in way too many fandoms to count, including content creators and whatnot. It wasn’t until a doodle of some CCs that I realised how many were MCYTs. But I wanted to draw these two cause I liked how I drew Scar in the other original doodle and have drawn Grian a bunch but constantly changed the design. Now I have one that I like.

Under the cut are the individual drawings plus stickers that I forgot to add to the original but decided fuck it it’s done, plus some explanation about design choices and headcanons. (Does anyone even care about that?) Idk and idc, I’ll ramble anyways.

First off, this one was annoying since it was supposed to be a hug. I was too lazy to draw the Third/Sercet Life outfits, so they are in their default outfits with crowns representing the fact that they won at least one of the Life games.

Ramble: For Grian’s design, I wanted to keep the bird/avian hybrid but also reference other series or past friend. The Life series has the poppy has memorabilia, the blue and red bracelet represents YHS/TS, and the eye necklace is for Evo. The tail is more so a mix of Watcher magic and Avian DNA, bird feet cause why not. The wing ears are hidden to look similar enough to his regular hair, I like to imagine that wing ears are a rarer trait and to not draw too much attention, he would use Watcher magic to change the colour of the wing ears to match his hair. The freckles are based off of the idea that Angel Dust’s freckles are actually just eyes (which were shown in the show), and I liked that idea. He didn’t have freckles before Evo but after in Hermitcraft he did, they are just eyes that are always closed though he can see out of them. It’ll be clearer in the next piece, but his eyes are based off of some bird eyes so a black sclera with coloured pupils. Grian just hides his eyes under his hair since they are more sensitive than normal. Also I didn’t wanna draw his eyes cause it was one of the things I kept changing before.

I’ll go into Scar later since it’s just a half body but he goes by the same rule of his outfit showing where he’s been. So the poppy and lavender for Third Life and the heart necklace for Secret Life. The earrings are based off of the crystals from Season 7.

Alter Egos! Or at least Hot Guy and Arianna Griande. Not much here, but you can see what I meant with the eyes beforehand.

Also, I can’t be the only one to notice or at least point out that Ari and Cute Guy have like the same or a least a very similar colour palette of pink and white.

Final one, and the two are taking a much needed nap. This could take place anywhere though I like to imagine somewhere in Double Life or somewhere between Season 7 - 10

(also I find it very funny how close these two’s bases were for Season 6 - 10. both were near each other in the futuristic district of season six, then next door neighbours at the start of season seven, I don’t need to mention much besides boatem in season eight, again near the start and most of season nine with Scarland and Grian’s timejump build, then finally again in season ten with Magic Mountain. just funny to me for some reason)

Ramble: Scar is like a hybrid between an elf/fae creature and a cat centaur (that I cannot remember the proper name for). The cat half is based off of Jellie, RIP, and his body is scarred because well I mean the dude is accident-prone it’s bound to happen. I imagine that Scar would wear slightly baggy outfits, like they hang off just a bit to not hug his figure. His hair is more based off of Season 9 with him leaning into the whole elf aesthetic, and I both hate and like the hair but whatever. Idk, I kinda just wanted to make him centaur based cause that visual isn’t something I see often. I imagine that hind legs are weaker than the front so he would switch between a cane and a wheelchair that you would see for animals. I might draw that later idk, but yea

I'm a fashion enjoyer, so here's more talk about Save Everyone AU/Poppy Worldwide fashion and character design:

For the AU, I'm trying my best to follow canon, despite me throwing it out of the window from time to time whenever I feel like adding or changing something would benefit the story and its themes. This is why I changed most of chapter 2's VHS tapes and documents, and I'm doing something similar for chapter 3.

I forgot to mention this while writing the chapter 2 arc, but Huggy Wuggy wears a little blanket around his neck. I need to draw him wearing it, but it has a dark blue color. I wanted Huggy to feel and look more like a feral kid and thought it would be appropriate;

Marie/Mommy Long Legs first starts out wearing nothing but the things that are already part of her plastic body, and ends the chapter 2 arc without her left arm. Similar to Huggy, in order to make her feel more like a kid I decided to make her wear Angel's green hoodie. Green in this AU is a color associated with both hope and Angel themself, as its a nature color. Marie is clingy and has a fear of abandonment thanks to what happened to her pre-becoming MLL, so she gets attached to the hoodie much like how a kid would wear their parent's outfits in order to "copy" them, while also getting attached to the idea of finally leaving that hellhole;

Poppy wears her traditional and frilly blue dress for chapter 2 and half of chapter 3, up until Angel helps Miss Delight and the group realocates to the School. Poppy's dress got extremely dirty from all the chaos, and in order to adapt, she decides to switch to a simpler one that Delight makes for her. Poppy is changing thanks to Angel's influence, slowly stopping to see most of the toys as just monsters, but victims just like her. She leaves the ribbons and intrincacies behind, as she has to survive, as she now really knows just how easy it is for her to be captured or hurt by others. Not that she didn't know that beforehand!

Dogday also receives a new lower torso, but no new legs. The lower torso was something Delight sewn together per Catnap's request. Dogday doesn't know about this just yet, but Catnap genuinely cares for him, with the new body part being a representation of that. I don't know if I'm going to throw him into another outfit or not for now, though!

Kissy is also going to get an outfit change thanks to Angel's influence on her: A gold ribbon she'll wrap around one of her arms so Poppy can more easily climb her when needed. Gold/bright yellow will be colors associated with the main found family for this AU!

Miss Delight will also change. Not by a whole lot, but Angel is going to wrap her around in a nice and cozy blanket so she won't get cold. The blanket covers her destroyed dress: Angel is influencing her to heal, even if not completely;

Speaking of which, Angel is like my own Barbie doll for this AU. They start out with a green jacket, giving it to Marie at the end of the chapter 2 arc, and then on chapter 3 they change to an old maintenance jacket. It's bright yellow, the color that symbolizes the found family as a whole to show that Angel is becoming an actual and real parent, and to also show that this guy is doing some maintenance work around Playcare, powering up generators and trying to help all the wounds the children left behind have. Angel is going to get a blanket made by the mini critters, dark blue in color, and it's a parallel to Nossa Senhora da Aparecida, a brazilian saint whose day (October 12th) is also called "children's day", aka when we give gifts to kids, like toys. The religious symbolism will become more apparent during the chapter 4 arc, when Angel has the final outfit change, being forced into a medical gown that parallels the outfits saints are painted wearing. This change is not of Angel's own choice, though!

I’m a furry, therian, otherkin, and an artist. Sometimes I share my art and OCs so keep an eye out!

My main fursona is a green coyote called Radio. Their ref sheet is a basefill because they originally came from a dream and I wanted to get their design down quickly.

Yeah.. There's quite a few webtoon series that I've been curious about reading. Especially because of the designs to the creator's artwork.. A lot of the character designs make me interested in wanting to read so many different stories. I'm so trying to remember some of the stories.

Besides Bloodhounds (which is something like Hunting Dogs as their title for the webtoon). Sweet Home. There are other webtoons too.

Midnight Poppy Land is one - because of the pretty man, who's really my type of guy, working in the mafia as one of their main bodyguards who eventually falls in love with a woman who is the opposite of him.

There was another webtoon series. I can't remember the title, and I'm gonna tell you when I remember the title. But this webtoon is actually sporty? Not really into sporty genres if I'm being honest. But I have to say that I was mainly drawn into the story because of the artwork.. So I might have to search around so I can tell you the title next time we'd talk. And it's bothering me that I can't even remember the title too.

I might have to look into Pigpen, I am curious to see if it's a story that I might want to read. So I'll definitely look into that series than.

What sites do you use? To read webtoons. Oh! Wait. I just realized you answered that already. So that's my fault. I missed reading that.

Oh! Yeah. The new season for Sweet Home should be coming back in mid December, between the 14th and 20th. If you decide to watch it.

I am not surprised that some things have changed from the webtoon adaption to the show adaption. Every adaptions have done that from what I've noticed. But at least I know ahead of time if I read webtoons stories though.. Just to see what the differences with those scenes.

But yeah. My biggest complaint was the CGI monsters. I know mainly every show or movie you watch has some cgi effects for the creatures you'd see. But they could've done better with the cgi effects though.

And before I forgot. If and when you do decide to watch Bloodhounds at some point. Because of certain events that happened with the very main female actress, because she did drive drunk under the influence which caused a lot of damaged property, they even had to rewrite the script - at least for the last three episodes anyway. To let you know if.. Y'know. You do decide to watch the show. So I don't know if there can be any new seasons for this show. But I still enjoy the series though.

Vincenzo Cassano's my husband. This man definitely has the beauty, brains and brawn. He's everything I want in a man. Never sharing him.

How is this nearly forty year old man still have his baby faced features like that. What the fuck. I know that I'm babyfaced... But he is actually a lot more babyfaced than I am. I don't know how to feel about that.

I might be rewatching Vincenzo for the umpteenth time again.

Yeah. That never makes sense to me? Everyone has a right to like and dislike whichever characters they want to. Since fictional characters... They are fictional characters saying and doing fictional things which I have to say is not the same as real people saying and doing real these real things. Real and fictional are different. So why bother people who like certain characters. Why waste your time on something like that.

Besides fictional characters. My ideal men exist in the real world from what I have noticed.. Except they love across the world in many other countries. They're celebrities. And they don't know I exist. So there's a lot of those facts to take into account. Oh! And I don't leave my house that often either. So how can I meet someone if I don't really leave my house most of the time. Always one problem after another. I hate it.

Preference heights for fictional characters? Not that I know of.. Being a short person, I love seeing short characters fighting and even killing characters much bigger than them. The whole pintsized powerhouse, that trope is so fun for me to see because I have pride in being short. Unless you're acting romantic? Like what type of character I may also like because of size? Because I was not really sure what you meant by the question. But if you meant fictional crushes. If they are taller than me, then that's all that matter. Because if I was with a short person in the sense of Levi (or Mikey from Tokyo Revengers for example), those characters are still taller than me even if they're short. So being in any relationship with someone short like that would feel like some normal relationship because we'd be closer in height in that sense. But at the same time, I also like tall characters because the obvious reasons you can think of. Bigger size might be intimidating to most people for one reason, unless there are short characters who are intimidating for any other person. But taller people can reach higher things that any short people can't, like the top shelves, for the short people who don't want climb to get something. So there's that. As examples. But generally.. I don't really have a preference in height for characters? That I know of.

Exactly. I admit that.. At first, I did hate Noelle because of her attitude toward everyone who wasn't a royal family. And her catchphrase does annoy me. But she did realize that someone's class should not matter in this way, only someone's personality and capabilities matter. Which is why I like her being around the Black Bulls and Crimson Lions since they are hardworking when they want to be, compared to many other squads. But her attitude towards the Black Bulls, when she was really first introduced, made me hate her because of her prissy attitude any time she talked with one of them. Though she is more tolerable to me now. But not the other people in the Silva family besides their mother who I like. If Nozel didn't want Noelle to be a knight because he might have been afraid she would die, just like their mother. Like.. Okay. So I understand he couldn't mention the demon's name because whoever speaks the demon's name also gets cursed too. That's fine. But Nozel could have told Noelle the truth, the he didn't want her to be a knight, because he didn't want her to die in battle like their mother. Not a lie. I think that would have been easier, than her three siblings abusing her entire life just because they didn't want her to be a knight. That's very stupid to me. There was other methods he could have used for this.

hey, it's been a while! really sorry for the inactivity... how have you been? have you started any new shows/read any other webtoons during this time? :) on my end, i actually started bloodhound not too long ago! i was scrolling through netflix because i wanted a break from anime (even though i already rewatched black lagoon in the past month lol), and remembered your recommendation, so i started watching. i'm on episode 3 right now, and i really like it. the main boy gun-woo is really precious and i like his friendship with the other boxer too. from the first episode, i actually thought it was going to be a regular boxing show, so i was pleasantly surprised that it has such an interesting plot. i will definitely be finishing the series ^^ especially when it ends on cliffhangers all the time? so hard not to click on the next episode. the next kdrama on my list will probably be vincenzo… i remember starting the kdrama a few years ago with my friends, but never got to finish it since i started work around the same time. but i keep hearing such good reviews that im motivated to finish it till the end. and i know that the actor for vincenzo cassano is really handsome too

i relate to you so much about the ideal person. personally i wouldn't mind meeting someone new, i'm at the age where i think its about time i do, but i rarely leave my house to begin with 😂 it's just too comfortable in here. so i crush on fictional characters instead hahaha. it's been a while since i've crushed on a celebrity, but it's probably because i got into an anime phase after falling out of the asian drama/kpop ones. ahh i see what you mean about liking taller characters. it's fun to watch short characters dominate in fights, like luck from black clover and thorfinn from vinland saga (also a really good anime, if you haven't seen that one yet.) but for crushes, it's more attractive to me when they're taller 😆 but of course it usually depends on their personality/demeanor whether i fall in love or not

yeah, i completely agree on what you said about nozel. tbh i think i dislike him more than some of the villains. i'm not a big fan of the antagonistic sibling who secretly cares for their sibling trope, because it's usually always done poorly. and nozel definitely was forgiven way too easily for being a bastard of a brother for so long. clearly he could be a redeemable character, and it's ultimately up to noelle whether she wants to forgive him or not, i just don't like the way the story went about with it. the black bulls member is more of a family to her than her siblings had ever been anyway. but oh well... i don't really care for him right now. whether he survives the last arc also doesn't mean that much to me too. i'm just interested in mereoleona and how yami/charlotte is going to play out

To the left we have Feathered Love, the miracle baby of Fluttershy and Starlight. They had a lot of difficultly having a foal of their own, even with a gender changing spell so in the end they decided to use a donor (Big Mac) for their family. They'd try every so often for a foal of their own, but knew it wouldnt really work. At some point tho, it did, and a beautiful, healthy baby foal was born to the pair! Feather is trans (ftm) and goes my he/him pronouns. He's covered in scars cause altho he's talent is with animals, he dosent have his mam's natural animal love. In other words, animals tend to just automatically love Fluttershy, but Feather has to work with the animal and grow a relationship with them before they start to love him. Most of the time the animal will just straight up attack him for no reason, thus all his scars. Next we have Blue Poppy, the youngest daughter of Coco and Soarin. Shes a massive flirt and loves to make her boyfriend blush. She was born after her parents retirement. Coco had always wanted to just be a stay-at-home mum but was always so busy creating the costumes for the Wonderbolts that she kinda just forgot about it, she did, how ever, end up retiring before Soarin (whom is much older then her). He retired after someone was about to take his place as the trainer for the Shadow Bolts. Once they retired they moved to Ponyville, a nice quite little town and relaxed. Maybe they relaxed a little too much cause they had a few more kids after moving, one being Poppy. Shes a total mama's girl and loves to create flower arrangements. Poppy and Feather have been friends for ever. They met at foal school and have been inseparable since. Most all mentioned how they'd probably date when their older but never really thought it happen. They started dating pretty much the moment they found out what that word meant and even to this day still have tones of "puppy love" for each other. Have you read those cheesy novels? Yes the super romantic ones, i know you did dont lie. That's the best way i can describe what is happening right now. Poppy holds a puppy in her hands rubbing its belly happily, she hasn't seen me yet and i am actually glad. I can't hear the conversation between her and the guy that works here but her laughter fills the room and my stomach turns at the sight

Its the first time i see Poppy so free, she must feel right at home. I smile approaching slowly, she turns around changing her expression completely, adorable Pops

"Aww i didn't knew you had a soft spot"

Poppy rolls her eyes but i can tell she is trying to hide a smile "If you tell anyone about this i won't hesitate to end your career, kick you out of Belvoire and make your life miserable"

Oh wow she didn't even shutter, that's impressive, should i be turned on or scared? Maybe both? My gaze falls to the adorable puppy in her hands and i can't help but pet its little head

Her eyes soften for a moment and all i can do is be fascinated and surprised by this new side of her

"My daddy bought me this animal shelter when i was eight years old"

"Oh..um nice? Is that what rich people do when they want a pet?" i tease her but her eyes seem to get distant and i think i might just hit a sore spot, damnit

"I wanted a puppy but my mother didn't allow pets inside the house so daddy got it for me. Its nice but i don't think they quite understood my point of view"

I look around noticing we are left alone and the crew is probably getting ready for our shooting. I reach to place my hand on her shoulder but i stop my hand mid air, remembering that we are actually enemies but are we?

Her gaze falls to my hand as i pull it back and i don't know if it's my mind playing games but i can see a mix of relief and disappointment in her eyes.

She lets the puppy down walking towards a room, i guess that's my cue to follow. I can now see the height difference between us and i smile to myself, she is so cute really

She leads me to a room filled with pink pillows, small pet beds and toys. She rans her hand on a shelf where several pictures are framed beautifully, why would she bring me here?

"It used to be my favourite place here, because no one could interrupt my thoughts" she holds a frame in her hands gesturing at me to approach closer

"This was my first pet, her name was Lucy" she taps at the glass and awww its the cutest thing have ever seen really. Its a beautiful brown Pomeranian and oh my god

"Is that little Poppy?" I gasp actually surprised by how innocent she looks. Of course she is wearing designer but the look on her face is.. genuine happiness and it made me think..I haven't seen Poppy smiling this way ever

She yanks the frame putting it carefully back "I shouldn't have shown you" Did i just made her shy? Damn where is the real Poppy? Is this her kind twin sister?

"Oh come ooooon you were beautiful since a kid hm?"

She looks me in the eyes and i can sense a rouge colour forming on her cheeks. She walks past me sitting on an extremely pink couch. I don't know if i should sit next to her or stand where i am but she pats at the spot next to her and my heart starts racing

"Sooo, this place is amazing I don't see why you didn't want it" i rest my head on my palm watching her intently

She sighs looking at me without hesitation this time "My parents were never around when i was growing up, so i really wanted a company. But they always had to do everything in their own way"

The puzzle is starting to get solved as i learn more about her past. I see pure vulnerability when i look at her in the eyes. In her own way she makes me feel special and I won't take that for granted

"Do you wish you could grow up in different circumstances such as mine?" I curiously ask

"Is this a trap?" She raises her eyebrow and i roll my eyes

"No, i am a great listener i am just trying to understand you"

"Why would you want that?"

Yes Bea, why would you want that? Aren't you suppose to hate her guts? If yes why is your heartbeat quickening? Why is your mind racing?

She notice i take time to respond and to avoid this awkward silence she finally speak "Can i imagine myself without designer clothes? Hell no"

I chuckle, good job Pops "That was a nice way to deflect my question"

Poppy smiles and its the cutest thing i have seen all day despite the cute animals here "You dork" she leans closer and her eyes widen in realisation

"I won't judge you, in fact i knew you were mean for a reason" i can now see her eyes sparkle and all i can do is sit back and admire her

Today she is very beautiful and her perfume fills my nose. I can see that she put extra effort this afternoon, is it the commercial or is it the fact that she planned for us to be alone? To be honest i kind of wish its the second option

"I asked you to help me bring Chloe down not become best friends"

"And who told you that i want to be your best friend?" I smirk daring to take her hand in mine. At first she just stares at me but doesn't pull back

"No one deserves to feel alone during their best years. When i was growing up we didn't have a lot on our plate but i got to spend time with my mother at the farm"

I can feel tears forming so i wipe them away knowing well i will look weak. Since i got here i miss my hometown more than anything in the world, the smell of the earth, the fresh air, everything.

"Oh right, because spending time with pigs covered in dirt sounds so much fun" Poppy responds ironically and for a moment i regret opening up, that until she pats my hand

"I..i wish i had a simpler childhood" she admits and i can clearly see tears ready to roll down her perfect face

Before she can wipe them away i place both of my hands on her cheeks wiping each tear away. Her eyes are closed trying to avoid my gaze but she suddenly pulls back stunned

"I- we shouldn't even talk about that Farmsville! Ugh you are annoying"

Its obvious that emotions aren't something she is fond of but i am trying my best to make her understand that feeling sad and nostalgic is normal

"Hey, hey! Not now that we made progress damnit" i pull her closer to me and that's when my breath catches

"What are you--"

"Take a deep breath and look at me" Even though she is about to protest she swallows hard doing as i said so

I take her hand placing it where her heart is. At first she looks at me confused but then i press it against her

"Can you feel your heart beating? That makes you human, humans are capable of having feelings. Therefore its normal to have emotions even more normal to need to rant about something that troubles you, do you understand me?"

I get lost in her eyes and her lips part wanting to respond but words cant describe how she is feeling. She takes a shaky breath and without thinking twice she closes the distance between us with a kiss

She press her body against me sighing happily, eagerly. She caught me off guard but i quickly set a pace. Poppy is starving for affection so i make this experience soft and gentle

I stroke her hair as my thumb runs circles on her cheek. I feel her shudder, overwhelmed by all the emotions she is feeling at once. I can't help but smile against her lips and she does the same

"Nobody ever talked to me this way" she says breathless

I rest my forehead against hers sighing "You deserve so much more than you think you do"

Aaaaaaand we had to be interrupted of course. Someone knocks at the door and Poppy jumps snapping back to reality, god damnit.

"Miss Min-Sinclair are you ready?" A man asks and i roll my eyes. Good job buddy we were having a moment!

"Y-es i will be out in two minutes" she can barely speak a sentence and i smirk to myself

"Go out first i need a moment" she pushes me towards the door, oh so now she forgot everything i said?

"But--"

"This is not a time for questions go go go!" Aw frustrated Poppy is sweet

I reached the door but I stop turning around to smile at her "We aren't done yet" and like that i step out of the room leaving a clearly confused Poppy behind.

Every possibility and every thought of her fills my mind as i step out of the room. She is different i knew it but i never thought things could end up this way. I smile to myself picturing a future with Poppy and i wont stop until i tried everything i have, i am coming for your hand Queen Bee, not your crown so be aware.

Pretty Rhythm: My☆Deco Rainbow Wedding Chapter 13+14

(I'm weirdly motivated to just churn out a tonne of chapters tonight. I may get 2 more out of the way... Anyway, in chapter 13 we get some Rinne lore and general sadness. In chapter 14 we basically get confirmation that Ayami is in love with Chae-kyung. I got whiplash between these two chapters)

Mia: Aaaand here we are!!

Penguin-sensei: You insufferable airhead, dragging people along without thinking!!

Mia: People?? What are you saying~? You’re a penguin!

Penguin-sensei: Oh yeah, I forgot for a second! Yes, I am indeed a member of birdkind. I am, and always have been a penguin~ Penpen!... Wait, what are you making me say!?!?

Mia: Woah, now, don’t get mad. Anyways, what’s Rinne doing around here? (It’s a snowy tree ice rink type area)

Penguin-sensei: Geez! Rinne is entering a fashion show here today.

Mia: You seem pretty down, huh Player? I’m pretty concerned about Rinne too, she seemed really sad… When I look at someone making a sad face, I end up feeling sad too… Ah... Ayami: STAND UP, GIIIIIRLS!!!

BOKUTO X READER VALENTINES DAY FLUFF 

You’ve been with Bokuto long enough to have mildly convinced him that you don’t really care about the extravagance of Valentines day. You don’t want a huge box of chocolates, to which half of them you don’t even like, or a bunch of flowers that will be dead in a week. 

It’s not that you don’t appreciate them, you absolutely do...but it doesn’t feel necessary anymore.

He makes you feel loved each and every single day. 

You don’t need cheesy red and pink decorations hung up in the living room or an expensive dinner at a restaurant where you feel out of place.

It just feels like way too much when you’ve already got everything you want and need by simply having him in your life. 

It’s more than enough already. 

Bokuto looks down at the last page of his ‘special love coupon book’ and grins to himself.

He’s old enough now to know that it’s kind of ridiculous but he’s given one to you for every single holiday or special occasion you’ve spent together and though you sometimes roll your eyes at what he believes are quite frankly generous rates on the slips, you never fail to smile when you see it. 

And..you’ve even cashed a few in, though after the first time he made you promise not to actually tear them out again, they were in fact, unlimited. 

He’s satisfied with it when he’s done with the design, this year he’s beefing it up a bit and having it actually printed out so he wanted to make sure the colors weren’t overwhelming or anything. 

Once that’s complete, and submitted to the print shop...he’s kind of at a loss. 

He knows you don’t want anything big. You’ve more than made that clear, though he’s been given contradictory advice by a couple of his teammates.

Still...he knows that he knows you better than anyone and that you wouldn’t be secretly expecting more.

The issue then becomes that he still wants to celebrate the day with you, even if it’s a lowkey thing with just the two of you. 

He makes up his mind that he’s going to get some of your favorite food and drinks and a hardback copy of that book you’ve been wanting and he can still feel like he’s celebrating the love he has for you, and that you feel it too...without overwhelming you.

Yeah, that sounds good…

He texts your best friend three days in advance, after setting many, many reminders on his phone and asks if they’ll take you out to coffee or a movie on him, a secret between the two of them. They of course love him and how affectionate he is with you so they agree quickly and he sends the money over before he forgets. 

The morning of, you have a nice lazy morning in bed before you bring up the friend date, he makes a big act of begging you not to go but just before you change your mind and cancel, he gets flustered and says he should probably get his workout in early so the two of you can spend the evening together.

You find it a little suspicious given the fact that Bokuto is about as subtle as a sledge hammer and a terrible terrible liar, but you trust that he won’t ask for too much and you put it behind you and go on with your day. 

As soon as you’re out of the house he grabs every pillow and comforter he can find and texts someone he knows isn’t busy today and grins when he answers on the first ring.

“It’s just a fort, man. What’s so hard about that. You tie a couple sheets to your ceiling fan and throw up some fairy lights and bam, you’re done and everyone is happy.” Kuroo answers after Bokuto explains why he wants him over.

Sure, building a for looks easy, but ‘ol Bo has learned his lesson and he doesn’t do any kind of large scale (or small scale) project without supervision anymore. 

“Just get over here man. I don’t have a lot of time...and what are fairy lights? Y’know what just stop and get those or whatever you think we’re gonna need and I’ll pay you back.”

“No...no what’s the real reason you’re asking for help. Besides the fact that you’re decoratively challenged?” 

“I AM NOT! SOMEONE TOLD ME I COULD BE A MODEL LAST WEEK!” he calls out before he realizes he does still need Kuroo’s help.

He ignores Kuroo’s response and continues on. “Anyway, uh,” he rubs his neck, not wanting to admit the truth but Kuroo is kind of like an evil genius sometimes. “I may or may not have sworn an oath that I wouldn’t do any umm projects without help.” 

Kuroo immediately starts barking laughter against his ear. 

“Stop being such a jerk and get over here dude, I’ve only got a couple hours!” 

“Wh-what’s the-” Kuroo is still slightly wheezing from laughter. “What’s the penalty.” 

‘Oh no, not telling. I’m hanging up. Be over here in less than 25 minutes or I’ll tell Kenma you broke his lucky switch, bought a used one on a street corner and then filed the edges down to make it look ‘authentic’.” 

“Fuck. Ugh fine.” 

“Yeah, that’s what I thought.” 

Bokuto hangs up the phone with a smirk splayed on his lips. 

He makes a resolute promise to himself to never let Kuroo find out the consequences of not keeping his promise is that he can’t have kisses or cuddles for a full twenty four hours. 

What can he say, he’s weak..okay. He’s weak for you. 

Kuroo gets there after he’s scheduled the takeout delivery and sloppily wrapped both your coupon book and the one you were itching to read. 

He defends his blanket choices with his life but Kuroo insists on using these plain white ones he bought because it would ‘look more romantic’. He rolls his eyes but lets him do what he wants because if it’s one thing he does trust, it’s Kuroo’s eye for design.

“Ooh I forgot you had these ceilings...this is going to look awesome, dude.” 

“Good, now what do you want me to do…” 

“Nothing, I got this part.”

“Nooo, I want to do it myself,” he says, resisting the urge to stomp his foot. “It won’t mean as much if you just do it all for me.” 

“Y’know you might not be the brightest but you’re a good man, Bokuto.” 

“Eh?” he says, because Kuroo rarely ever compliments him sincerely.

“Nothin’ man, just get the clothespins.” 

They work together and in less than an hour it looks, well...it looks fucking amazing he thinks.

He’ll give up just this once and say Kuroo was right, the white sheets look pretty cool and the little lights they strung up are pretty neat too. 

It looks super romantic so he hopes you like it. 

He kicks Kuroo out before he can invite himself over, Kenma has a special v-day stream going on and he wants to crash it from a different ip, whatever that means. Well either way he turns him down and swears the secrets he has will yet again, stay between the two of them. 

Now he just needs to wait for you to get home. 

When your friend texts that they’re about to drop you off, his heart starts beating out of his chest and he gets super excited.

He waits for you at the door, stepping outside when he sees their car pull in and softly closes it behind him. 

“He yells out a greeting that could probably shake the ground if it was another decibel louder but you love how excited he gets so it doesn’t bother you. 

You make your way over to him with a skeptical look on your face as he starts nervously rubbing at his neck.

“Why are you outside?” you ask and there’s a pink tinge to his cheeks that you’re pretty sure isn’t from the cool weather. 

 “Umm Happy Valentines Day?” he says, an awkward chuckle quickly following the words.

“Kotaro...what did you do? Why are you standing outside?” you ask, immediately concerned about the state of your home. 

“I swear it’s not bad. I just wanted to surprise you so...please?” he asks, a hopefulness in his eyes that you can’t bring yourself to squelch no matter how worried you feel. 

“I mean I said I didn’t want anything big but I guess if you want-” you stop mid sentence, breath stuck in your throat when you see your transformed living room. 

He’s moved all the furniture except for the couch and the tv stand and it’s gorgeous. The lights twinkle a little in the darkness and you feel the irresistible urge to kiss his face. 

So you do.

He never objects to kisses. 

“This is really nice… I mean it. I’m sorry I almost ruined your plan or if I made you feel like you couldn’t do anything. I don’t ever want it to be that way. I just also don’t need you to make a big fuss,” you say, trying to be a little logical about it, but your heart is definitely thumping in that cheesy romantic way. 

“How about a little fuss…” 

“A little fuss feels nice.” 

You lay back on the couch, you read to him from your book and share music playlists that quietly add to the ambiance of your conversation. He coaxes you into some weird verbal games that he’s played with Akaashi over the years, because it was something he needed to bring him out of his shell a little and you end up laughing until your belly hurts. 

The takeout arrives on time and you enjoy the food and Bo loves to feed you small bites of your favorite stuff, so you let him. 

He tells you to unwrap your gift and you feel fondness and warmth rush over you when you see the handmade coupons, this time even more beautifully drawn out. 

It’s really easy to see why you’re so in love with him. 

Even in the in between moments. 

He’s always thinking of you and always wanting to be the best version of himself for you.

I wrote like an extra 600 words cause a lot of it was bokuto and kuroo interaction lol my bad but I hope you enjoyed it!

If you asked Patton what he thought about his life, he would probably say something in the lines of "I LOVE IT!". He was an optimistic guy, and he had everything he had ever wished for: he had a small, cozy house that he could actually pay the rent of; he had a job he didn't love but enjoyed, working at a toy store at the nearby mall; he had friends who he could count with, and always had his back; and most important of all, he had an amazing son that was the light of his life, little Thomas, the sweetest, kindest boy he had ever seen in the whole wide world. Thomas was Patton's life, he did everything and anything for him, and he loved him so, so much. They were best friends, and being a single father, it sure helped bringing him close to his kid.

But now Thomas was entering high school. A time that hadn't been so kind to Patton, one he feared quite a lot when he remembered it, and most important, a time where classes, friends and work usually filled up the teenagers times. So yes, Patton was going through the empty nest phase before his nest was even empty, but he didn't let that show because he knew that if he did, Thomas would let go of everything to be with him, and he didn't want to hinder his son's growth just for his own selfish reasons.

So yes, Patton had everything he had ever wanted. He was a great life, great friends and a great kid. What was missing?

Oh yeah... romance.

Patton... wasn't very good at that. He had had his fair share of boyfriends before, sure, but they never seemed to work out and worst, Patton always left the relationship feeling horrible. Some of his friends even insisted he had been through some heavily abusive relationships, but he didn't see it. No, to him, he was just not fit for it. So well, he wouldn't think about it too much. If it was meant to be, it would be, and that was final.

So that was how he lived his life: for his work, his friends, and most of all for his son. He loved his life, he really did, and even though he felt like something was missing (someone to hold him at night, to make him feel warm and happy during the times Thomas was away, someone he could share all his passions with), he didn't allow his thoughts to linger on that too much. He was privileged. He was happy. And no matter what, a lack of a romantic partner wouldn't change that.

 Monday was Patton's free day. Since he worked at the mall, they would rather have him working on Saturdays and Sundays rather than Mondays, so he always left that day of the week to do whatever he wanted, specially while Thomas was at school.

After leaving his son at the school entrance, Patton took his car back to their house and parked on the garage, deciding to have a stroll around the neighborhood before coming home and cleaning. Every other Monday, he made his way towards one of his best friend's flower shop, to chat and drink some coffee, maybe buy a succulent or two. His name was Virgil, and he was a few years younger than Patton, but they turned into quick friends after Thomas suddenly decided he wanted to cultivate flowers when he was eight. So he and Patton were constantly at Virgil's store, buying seeds, dirt and other utensils for Thomas' experiments. After that phase, they became friends, and Patton made sure to come often every now and then to check on him.

As he walked inside, he was greeted by the sweet lavender smell the store always had, the summer flowers colorful and wide at the store's windows and stands. Patton always admired Virgil's ability to decorate, the place was outstanding, beautiful, with flowers and decorations on every little corner. As he walked inside, the little bell rang above him, and he heard a grunt coming from behind the counter in the back, the little door to the storage area half open.

"I'll be there in one second! Feel free to look around!" he heard Virgil's voice, a bit muffled, and Patton chuckled to himself, checking his favorite flowers in the corner. Oh daisies were so pretty! He touched them and even picked one on his hand, before putting it back on the vase and continuing his stroll around the shop. He felt so cozy in there. "Hey, how can I... Patton!"

"Virgil!" he said when he saw his friend pop up from behind the counter. He approached in and smiled as the younger man pushed the box of flowers away from their path, smiling at his friend.

"Long time no see, Pat. Too busy fixing stuff for Thomas' back to school time?" he asked, grabbing a few roses from inside the box, and gathering them up with a few of those decoration sticks to form a bouquet. Patton chuckled, nodding while he watched him.

"Yeah, you know how crazy these few weeks are. Buying notebooks, pencils, pens, books, making sure he knows how awful high school is going to be" he chuckled, offering Virgil the strand so he could tie up the bouquet. "How are you?"

"Oh I'm my usual self" Virgil said, making a knot and then a bow and placing the bouquet at a vase nearby. "I got a bunch of new flowers for the season... some tree saplings too. The usual stuff. Oh, did you get Logan's text?"

Logan was one of Patton's oldest friends, one that ended up becoming Virgil's friend after hanging out with Patton so much.

"No I didn't..." Patton said, checking his phone, only to see a notification from Logan. "Oh... I did."

"He wants to celebrate the beginning of the school year... as usual" Virgil said, chuckling as Patton opened the message.

'Patton, I would like to celebrate the beginning of the school year with a night of cheese and wine at my house, Monday at eight pm. I would appreciate your company – Logan'

"Ish... I didn't tell Thomas about it" Patton said, biting his bottom lip, but when he looked up Virgil was staring at him with an annoyed look.

"Do you think he would care? Every fourteen-year-old dream is to have the night for them to be alone. Specially after first day of class. Send him a message and come. It will be fun" Virgil said, tying up a second bouquet. "We all know you need a little fun Pat."

"Being with Thomas is fun" he said, but he knew what Virgil meant. The florist rolled his eyes and nodded, while Patton send Thomas a message about going to Logan's at eight. "Well, I sent it. I'll be going."

"Great-oh and Patton, could you do me a favor? Could you send this vase to Roman? He ordered it last week and didn't come to, you know, get it" Virgil said, rolling his eyes and handing Patton a beautiful golden vase with red poppies in it. "He's lucky I know how to care for my flowers or they would be dead by now."

"Of course, I'll take it to him" Patton said, smiling and taking the vase. "Have a good day Virg! See you tonight."

"See ya Pat" Virgil said, turning back to his bouquets as Patton made his way out. He wasn't planning on going by Roman's but it wouldn't take him too far from the path anyway, so he headed over.

Roman was also one of Patton's closest friends. He met him through Virgil, since both seemed to have a history neither talked too much about, but Roman and Virgil were one of those best friends that always teased each other no matter what. Unlike the florist, Roman was loud, extravagant and dramatic! He worked at a studio as a clothing designer, but his true passion was theater, so he taught a small group in a little rented space near his apartment. He taught every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and worked on the rest of the days, but he was always excited and seemed to not care about the extensive work hours he had.

Patton knew, then, that he would be probably with his theater group at that time, so he headed off to the small rented place, a large empty room where he did his plays and taught his students. Patton made his way inside through the small door, walked upstairs, and knocked on the door very gently so he wouldn’t interrupt in case they were in the middle of a scene.

After a minute, someone opened the door, and Patton smiled at the little girl looking up at him.

"Hey there. Is Roman busy?" he asked, and she looked back, shaking her head and opening the door further so he would come in. Patton walked inside, seeing every child with their eyes closed, laying on the ground, meditating, while Roman sat in front of them in the sitting yoga pose.

As Patton walked in, the girl closed the door and went back to her place, laying down, while Roman opened his eyes and turned to see Patton.

"Children, keep on the breathing exercise, make sure you feel relaxed and content" Roman said, before standing up and nodding for Patton to follow. He did, and they walked inside a small room next to the one they worked on, filled with props and with a table with some coffee and tea. "Patton!"

"Hey Ro" he said happily, handing him the vase. "I went to Virgil's and he told me to bring this to you. Sorry for interrupting your class."

Patton looked at him confused but didn't oppose, sitting on a nearby stool and thanking Roman as he handed him a cup of tea. Roman looked at the flowers and let out a melancholic sigh, before drinking some tea as well, shaking his head.

"Is... something wrong?" Patton asked, knowing Roman didn't just spill out whatever he was thinking unless someone asked.

"Oh Patton... everything is going wrong" he said, dramatically, and looked at him with a defeated expression. "I received the worst news I could possibly have received... and worst, no one will understand it if I complain about it."

"Roman... you can always talk to me" Patton said, smiling and placing a hand on his knee. "What is bothering you buddy?"

Roman looked away dramatically, sighing loudly and pressing his lips together before closing his eyes and taking a deep breath.

"My brother... is moving... here" he said, opening his eyes again, and Patton stared at him for a moment.

Well, Roman was right. He did not understand it.

"Is that... bad?" Patton asked, but Roman whined and put his face in his hands.

"It is the worst news I could have received! My brother and I, ugh, we are... complete opposites! We never saw eye to eye and I thought I had finally gotten rid of him, but no. He is moving here, and he insists that I go to his moving party! I don't want to go Patton! I don't like him!"

"Roman, he is your brother! It can't be so bad..." he said softly, and Roman furrowed his eyebrows.

"It is... gosh I don't want to go to this party... I will have to go and stand around while he... acts like he does... ugh... if only I had a friend..." Roman said, and then his eyes slowly widened, snapping his head up. "Patton! That's it!"

"That... is it?" Patton said confused, but Roman held his shoulders and grinned.

"You, Virgil and Logan are coming with me to the party! That way, I don't have to feel alone and scared while he is the way he is!" he said, and Patton furrowed his eyebrows lightly.

"Roman, I don't know..."

"Awn come on please Pat!" Roman pouted, leaning closer to him. "I promise that we can do whatever you want after! The party will suck but like we can do so many cool things!"

"Um... I mean... I'll think about it" he said, nervously, but Roman pouted even more. "ugh fine fine! I will go!"

"Yes!" Roman squealed, hugging Patton tight. "Now you just have to help me convince Logan and Virgil and we are all set!"

I laughed really hard at the explosions. Probably because I Photoshopped someone into a picture of an explosion and the scene with Kirill being shoved forward by an explosion reminded me of it…

I wanted Max to slap Travis, as weird as that might be for a show like this (but not for a show like Zombieland Saga). A punch in the gut’s good too, though.

“To be continued?” – Oh. Ohh. Ooh…Heh. I already knew there were some extra episodes, but at this point, there’s no ruling out a season 2, either…hmmm. I really wouldn’t mind a season 2, y’know.

For some reason, I’ve ben referring to Hijikata as “old fart” for the length of this episode (meaning “not long”). He’s an impressive old fart, to be sure, and he was hella nice-looking in his heyday, but in the age of Golden Kamuy, he’s still an old fart.

I thought “Say hello to my little friend” was from Scarface, not…whatever Tsurumi’s pulling here. (commnt made in jest with straight face)

Wait, so Kiroranke, Asirpa and co. are headed north to meet up with Kiroranke’s allies, which could cause a civil/national war. Hijikata and Blockhead Dick-sensei (forgot his name) are headed south due to the info they got from Inudou’s hut (the chapel). I’m pretty sure that’s what just happened, but…I could have missed a bit and then I’d be wrong.

“Send the beloved child on a journey” is a Japanese saying, by the way. That’s (probably?) what Sugimoto’s referring to when he talks with the boat captain (the elder Koito). Oddly, the elder Koito seems to drop the last O from “-dono”, which seems to be a Satsuma thing…?

Shield Hero 1

First anime of 2019 and it’s this one. Hoo boy – I’ve read one chapter of the manga, courtesy of CR. It’s gonna get nasty down in here, judging by the buzz that seems set to replicate Goblin Slayer’s…

Oh…that’s not a very favourable opening, the “It was all a dream” opening. Sure, it was gripping and showd Raphtalia (saw her name in promo material from ANN), but f*** if it weren’t overused at this point in time…

I always thought Shield Hero started out like Fushigi Yuugi…speaking of which, is that no longer on Crunchyroll?

Motoyasu’s got his own spinoff, so I’m hoping I’ll get to know him well over the next 12 weeks or so.

I find it interesting that they put the heroes together to reveal they’re from different versions of Japan so quickly. I’m pretty sure that didn’t happen in the manga.

Honestly, that “NOOOOOOOOOOOo!” could be an awesome reaction GIF. Just sayin’.

Sigh…Myne, Myne, Myne…you and your ways with Naofumi…

(Trigger warning: rape discussion) See? As I said, I knew this was going to happen. The thing is that it played out a lot more clearly in the anime than it did in the manga. As much as I don’t like the trope of “rape as accusation” enough (enough to have never encountered it before), it would be hypocritical of me to say I haven’t used it before – it appears in Half-Paid Heroes. However, one year out from having written it (due to the #MeToo movement), I can only say “rape is so not on”. I do not condone rape, but from a storytelling perspective it’s the perfect trope to make a character look like a monster and it makes a clearly false accusation have more oomph behind it, so…let’s just say Shield Hero’s doing its job here, making me despise Myne and the system in this world. Besides, I only stand on the side that does the better story.

For some reason, Naofumi’s “You can shove it all up your a***!” demand reminds me of when I’m angry and doing unreasonable demands…which means it’s won me over now.

I just realised…there hasn’t been much music until now…

Boogiepop 1 – 2

Double length premiere…oof, this’ll be tough on my spare time. Lately, I’ve been told to clean up the house a bunch and doing all manner of other things, so it’s just eating up time on all sides.

OP start is…for some reason, never a good start. For some reason, I just don’t like it. Maybe that might be the fact I was taught to start with a compelling opening scene when I was a fiction writer, though.

The subber got so bored they even subbed the Dengeki Bunko logo in the corner…wow. (sarcastic)

For some reason, the art style reminds me of Banana Fish (or Parasyte). Must be the chara designs.

This seems to be coated in a fine film of 90s edge. Or maybe the early 2000s, because that’s when this really comes from. C’mon, Takeda doesn’t even seem surprised when his mouth hangs open!

Notably, Boogiepop uses boku.

Wait, I don’t get why Boogiepop is called that. They pop the boogie(men)? That right?

I started zoning out and fiddling with my wrist in the middle of this episode. That’s another bad sign…

White-haired man seems to be like Anti from Gridman. I presume he’s Echoes…? Update: Yup, Echoes it is.

This sounds like it’s outside my field of expertise, but I’ve been proven wrong before with Planet With, not to mention Toshiki Masuda is a character called Huey Malthis. It seems to be pretty standard Princess and the Pauper fare though…

There’s just a bunch of tablets with fancy-looking English on them…the heck?

Wan High Weeping (Part 13)

Katara gave a frustrated groan. June had to have given her at least two hours of homework between chemistry and math and she still had a few other classes worth of work, including having to write a page for Kyoshi’s, ‘The Wan High Perspectives’ project. A page a day was becoming so tedious and she hated dwelling on her day. She decided to name her auto-biography, ‘Wan High Weeping’, she had a feeling that by the end of the year there wouldn’t be a dry eye left in the school. But she had to power though these assignments if she was going to visit Sokka that weekend. Yet, thinking of the visit was eating away at her focus. And so it became a cycle of fretting over not having enough time to drop by Sokka and then stressing over the amount of work she had instead of actually doing it.

She tapped her pencil against her chin as she forced herself to work out one of the equations. All the while her phone was blowing up, she had to fight the urge to answer any of the calls or texts. She kept telling herself that most of them were probably Jet and his friends, they always seemed to find work arounds to her blocking their numbers.

“Uggh, this is so irritating…” She wanted to throw her pencil down. She didn’t have time to think about Jet and pals, but it was so easy to think about that when her homework was so painfully uninteresting.

 She didn’t spare her phone a glance until she got all of her math work out of the way. After tucking that neatly into its designated folder, she picked up her cell. As expected, many of the messages were from Jet and his crew. All of them were of the same variety, the same tactless insults. She couldn’t tell if it was a good or a bad thing that she was growing numb to being accused of being a slut. She sighed and deleted them all, blocking the numbers one by one, until she finally came to something more pleasant. Aang’s number appeared on her screen.

 It would seem as though things were not as pleasant as she suspected after all. The message concerned Toph. ‘Poppy called me earlier. She said to tell coach that Toph is in the hospital.’ He added a frown emoji and a sick emoji.

 Katara bit her cheek and quickly texted him back. ‘So sorry it took so long to reply, math with June is horrible. What happened to Toph? Is she okay?’ It makes her stomach turn to think that something has happened to Toph of all people. Truly a hospital visit is the last thing the BeiFong’s needed.

 She scrolled to the next message.

Suki.

She was almost afraid to open it.

Her finger hovered above the screen for some time before she finally decided to just go ahead and see what Suki had to say. It was simple and to the point, ‘you better give him a good talk.’ She didn’t need context and she didn’t know how to reply. It has been so long since she had seen Sokka and she didn’t want to open their first conversation with Suki’s pregnancy. So she sent a quick, ‘I’ll see what I can do.’

 Shu Jing University was much nicer than Wan High could ever hope to be. It certainly lived up to its prestigious hype. It was a collection of tiered buildings with orange and goal roof tiling. It’s campus seem to go on for miles, and some of the frat houses were sprinkled into the town itself. Her journey to Sokka’s dorm building was lush with trees, most of them shedding their leaves. The breeze smelled of the season, a warm perfume of cider, caramel, and hot-cakes. She assumed that the cafeteria was the source, it tickled her nose most pleasantly and she longed to study there instead of her own school. Students in uniform—bright red unisex dress pants and vests with the school logo—traipsed down the sidewalk carrying on eloquent, erudite conversations. Where they would meet up for study sessions and what was on the menu in the café and an occasional comment on the weather. Everyone seemed so serious, driven, and generally well-put together. She never envied Sokka more. Everything was so fancy, even the walkway which was made of shining cobblestone.

Trapped in the romanticized image of college life, for a moment she forgot about her troubles. She spied a group of students lounging in the grass on picnic tables, reading and soaking up the last of the moderately warm weather.

With any luck, Sokka would take her for a latte in the café.

 She hustled the rest of the way to his dorm area, where he was waiting for her outside with his hands stuffed into his pockets and a skateboard in the other. His hair was wet and he smelled like shampoo. He wasn’t in uniform, but instead a white t-shirt and blue flannel pajama pants. He cast his skateboard aside and pulled her into a hug. “It’s about time you stopped by! I haven’t heard from you since your first day of school! How is everything?”

 Katara sighed, her eyes already welling up, “it isn’t good, Sokka.” She gave herself a moment. “Toph is sick and they won’t leave me alone.”

 Sokka’s brows knit. “Here let’s go inside.”

 She followed him into the dorm, it smelled much less pleasant—it was definitely the boys’ dorm, alright. It reeked of stale pizza and body odor. “How do you stand the smell?” She couldn’t help but ask.

 “Eh, ya get used to it.” He chuckled. “I probably contribute to it.”

 “Ew! Sokka, that’s gross!” She missed him so, so much. It was almost like nothing changed at all. She could almost pretend that he wasn’t dodging responsibilities.

 “Anyways, who won’t leave you alone?”

 “Jet.” She mumbled.

 “Him again? I thought you broke it off with him?”

 “Yeah, that’s why he’s calling me a whore. He handles rejection worse than Zuko!”

 “Am I going to have to have a talk with him.” He cracked his knuckles, “ya know, this kind of talk.”

 Katara laughed. “That would be nice, but I don’t want you to lose all of this.” She gestured around the dorm. “He’s a minor and you’re an adult now, you could get in serious trouble. Even if you didn’t, his friends would keep it up.”

 “Which ones? Chan and Azula?”

 She could give him a whole list. “Yeah, Chan. And Chan’s friend, Chu-Leng. Sometimes the rest of the volleyball team. But it’s mostly Jet, Smellerbee, Pipsqueak, and Duke.  “Don’t need to know?” She filled in. “That’s the great thing about being a guy isn’t it? You can keep it hushed. Suki? Every knows! It’s kind of hard to hide an entire baby bump.” Katara didn’t realize how furious the situation was making her until she finally put it out there.

 Sokka flushed.

 “I can’t believe you, Sokka!” She sputtered. “You’d come all the way to Wan High to beat people up for me, but you’re afraid to go help Suki out every once in a while.”

 “She broke up with me, Kat!”

 “Because you ignored her any time she mentioned the baby.”

 “I don’t know how to be a father.” Sokka confessed softly.

 “You can learn. Just like every new dad.”

 “I have to study, this is tough stuff…”

 “Suki has to study. She still wants to go to college too.” Katara argued. “But she can’t just avoid things like you are. She doesn’t have a choice at this point.” She shoved her phone at him. “Call her, Sokka. And tell her that you’re going to help her with the baby. You can start by helping her pick a name.”

 “Can we go back to talking about bullies? I can handle those.”

 “Sure, after you call Suki.” She replied. “Trust me, I need advice. But Suki needs support more right now.”

 “Okay, you win, Kat.” Sokka lifted his hands. “I’ll call and then you let me help you out.”

_ Kylo being shown off again as a good tactician when fucking up the Raddus.

-Finn & Rey hugging at the end of the movie that’s it.

_ The worldbuilding has been fucked up just to respond to Rian’s whims when he have barely any explications about the context.

_ Fucking bad designs everywhere. 

_Boring cinematography except a few times. 

_ The fucking zooms-in and Kylo looking like he’s stuck in a washing machines when he barrels rolls around the TIE Silencer. 

_ The FO is suddendly overpowered with money and personnal. The loss of SKB has like no impact on the organization. This episode should have explored to their backstory but Rian simply didn’t care.

_ Everybody in this movie shut off their brains. 

_ Hux went from “officer didn’t had not much battle experience” to a total joke. His traumas due to his upbringing are ignored and his sufferings are reduced into supposed moments of comedy .And it’s not like Rian didn’t knows his past, he even gave him a first name. Hell he didn’ even bother explain Hux’s past to Domhnall and he discovered that his character had a first name when an interviewer asked him about it (Domnhall seemed pretty angry about it since he invest himself a lot in reserches and stuff for the characters he plays.) Knowing how Domhnall had to improvise the blaster scene, i’m sure he would have objected even more of Rian’s decisions.  His purpose half of the movie is to do Huxposition on the bridge, being totally incompetent and thrown around. It’s gonna be hard for JJ to repair this and have the audience take him seriously as a villain. 

 _ Poe, well, I never cared much about his character. I even tried to read the comics but I felt barely nothing about him. But I was hoping TLJ would help but instead they managed to makes me hate his character. The Poe/Holdo arc was badly written. There was many ways to make an arc like that make sense but also more emotionnal for these two characters. I hate how one second they makes him this macho man who keeps understimating lady officers but a second after, the female characters are “haha, I like him ;)”   Yeah sure. 

_Finn’s arc who is reduced as total coward and a joke and where war has to be explained to him (a fucking child-soldier) by a woman that constantly think about hurting him when he mentions Rey, the person he is close to the most and then is forced as a potential love-interest to him for some reasons. The DJ explanations are just bad (of course, the Resistance has to buy weapons. We knows that Rian, thx) The suicide run was also pretty stupid. Also the fact that him and Rey didn’t reuniting on the Supremacy screams so much Rian wanting them to interact as less as possible in the movie. Finn deserves better.

_ Rey’s arc. Can we even talk about an arc? Her character regressed. As if she didn’t dealt with years of abuse and survival on Jakku and as if Kylo never tortured her and hurt her closed ones. Hell she even get tortured twice in the space of two days because of Kylo. The Force-skype stuff feels so forced. Adam & Daisy only have good chemistry when their characters are set against each other. Rey talks about how she is scared of the Force within her but we see her then has no problem to deal with it and master everything in one second (rendering the existence of jedi school pretty useless like you just have to download the Force-powers of a master jedi and that’s it. The Force.exe is installed. ) The small training scene where she cut the rock looks pretty stupid, her sword fighting position is pretty bad during it. Going to the dark side has no consequences on her. She has no agency. Replace the word “Force” by the plot and you’ll see what I mean. 

_ Luke. Has someone who has to deal with depression, I think showing Luke as irritated and stuff can makes sense. I kinda relate since my temper changed a lot. I had a lot of patience & kindness but now, everything irritate me (from a member of my family intruding in my space to hearing the ringing of the phone) I’m scared to see my friends, I feel like a walking failure that I will never be satisfied about myself or will satisfy my parents, I just want to be left alone & if this lead me to die that way, then so be it. The problem is how wonky the writing leading-up to this Luke is bad. Everything is about to make us feels sad for Kylo (I don’t). Kylo’s turning against his family upon learning that he is the grandson of one of the most dangerous war criminal would makes senses. Luke blaming himself because he felt he failed to help his nephew after years of work instead of randomly popping his lightsaber would have made more sense. Luke’s grieving all his others students would make more sense. Luke attempting to reason Kylo after the massacre but still failing would make sense. Luke looking for a solution on the island and then failing to find one, thus made him feel unable to see his sister face to face would makes more sense. There’s is barely any emotionnal moments for Luke and the Final holographic showdown feels like they absolutely wanted to avoid Kylo to kill Luke directly (like c’mon, he’s been committing war crimes since the first minutes of TFA)

_ Kylo. TLJ is a bad attempt at Kylo’s pity fest.It’s interesting that his traumas are acknowledged while the other character’s are pretty ignored despite having a tragic’s past that should impact them as well. Everything is about him. Most of his actions are pretty villainous, he’s no grey character like people are trying to force us to believe because he looks sad. This is an humanized villain arc (which he didn’t need after seeing TFA), not a redemption one. At least he is now the main villain too, so there’s tha (But the “Uwu save ben solo” stuff going around spoil my liking of him as a villain. I’m not here to see whether Kylo is gonna turn LS for a third time in ep9. It would be too repetitive at this point) I just hate the “ You are truely Han solo’s son”line because it is obvious he is more like his mother. Only father figures are important to the characters in SW, it seems. Also the goddamn scar being moved on his eyes but it doesn’t impair his vision despite being cut by a freaking lightsaber. Like Rian could have gave us a legit explanation why Kylo was weakened & needed Rey to fight the preoatarians guards: Losing an eye would be an huge handicap tha het is not used to yet so he needed help to take the throne. 

_ Leïa is only here to looks sad and for Kylo’s momentarily manpain (and Marry Poppying around space). Like really, you reduce Leïa fucking Organa too that?? The woman ready to move time and space just for the sake of saving freedom? the princess of Alderaan who saw her planet being destroyed but kept up on? the woman who was mainly in charge of the strategizing of Hoth’s evacuation? The woman who was willing to stay on Bespin just for the sake of massacring stormtroopers because Vader gave Han away to Boba Fett & would have stayed if Lando didn’t pulled her off to the Falcon? The woman who had to face the galactic backlash of her being Vader’s daughter but still kept on? A woman full of anger but also sense of duty?

_ Rose, rose, rose… I was excited to meet her so imagine my disappointment upon discovering she was just here to lecture & push around Finn & being forced as another love interest that doesn’t even work. It’s like she forgot that her sister died the same day and that she should still be grieving. We don’t even get to see her use her mechanic’s skills in the whole story. The message about her character makes no sense between her last line in tlj and all the destructions she is willing to provoke (not all the ppl working at Canto bight are rich, has it show in the Canto Bight book) or let happens. KMT doesn’t deserve that. 

_ Yoda’s appearing bcos I hate this hypocrite of a gremlin and was expecting for Luke to dunk him in the sea. 

_ Chewie, the glorified cab driver.

_ The battles are a huge clusterfuck & the most badly written space battle I have ever seen. 

_The way Poe’s piloting skills feels to OP when you compare to other pilots, in particular in recently RO. 

_D’qar’s battle is a fucking tactical mess. Everyone has been conviniently dumb down. Same during the slow-mo chase. What’s even the point of bringing the whole fleet of star destroyers if they are just useless.

_ Bad infiltration scene on the Supremacy on the same level as RO’s one. I’m just tired of infiltration scenes in SW. Please stop that shit. 

_ The preotarian guard fight is a choregraphic mess that has no stakes for the characters. Everyone is just waiting for their cue and twirling around. It’s like it was shooted in one go. And there is a difference between Luke in ROTJ kicking a blaster out of the hand of a foe looking bad due to technical problems of the time. And a knife suddendly being edited out at the last minute because the mc would have die then

_ Crait. A good example on how not taking in account the worldbuilding that could be used in battle. So you’re gonna tell me that the Resistance decided to hide away in a base with no issue other than big metallic door in the front? Sounds like a good plan.

_ Leïa never taking command of the battle and strategizing and letting Poe deal with all that despite that she is the general that Poe is a demoted member of the Navy who caused a shit-ton of mess among the Resistance like 30 minutes ago

_ Hux is still depicted in a idiotic way & using bad tactics again. If this is supposed to be a movie about the characters learning about their mistakes,well it didn’t do its job.

_ What is even the use of the third cannon of the gorrilla walkers??

_ What was even the point to use these old speeders besides for being destroyed?

_ Rey shooting down 3 TIES in one shot seems to break a lot of SW physics. Her disappearing of the whole fight shows how much Rian didn’t care abt her character beyond having her interact with Kylo.

_ Y’know, I have Battlefront 2 and in the game there is mining tunnels on the battlefield that you can use to hide. In the movie they are not present, the whole Resistance sit dumbly in trench and just wait to be massacred. I was hoping those tunnels would re-appear in the movies & would be used to sink the walkers by bringing them down with bomb used for mining but nope. The image of walkers falling in a sinkhole, provoking a storm of red dust, coloring the outfits,armors and vehicles in red would have been pretty badass to see.

_ The ramming canon trained on like 10 kilometers instead of using the gorrilla walkers designs and adding to them the mini death-stars canons. They can’t use it all the time tho bcos it would need to cool down before shooting again. Aren’t these supposed to be artillery vehicles ffs???

_ The Resistance not even rigging their escape ships with bombs so if the FO penetrated their base, they can at least cripple them by exploding them. So much for a group that is supposed to be specialized in guerrilla warfare.

_ Talking about guerrilla warfare, i was expecting at least a pursuit and firefight in the mines. No use of the worldbuilding during battle scenarios once again. 

_ Leïa should have been the one to confront Kylo, not Luke. Showing her willing to fight her own son and dies during it for the freedom of the galaxy would have been a good way to send her off and building her as this strong, resilient, legendary leader willing to fight her own family for the good cause. It would have been a good middle finger to people who slandered her upon learning she was Vader’s daughter.

_ Rey effortlessly levitating these rocks. Showing her struggle would have made the ending scene more rewarding.

_ The news of the Battle of Crait spreading super fast despite that the Resistance official journalist, Suralinda Javos wasn’t even present during it for documenting or something.

_ Broom boy & the way it is implied that he might join the Resistance or something because of his Force-powers. A fucking child.Involved in a war. I thought Finn being a child-soldier was bad thing?

And I’ll stop there for now, because there is so many problems with this movie, i’m never gonna be finished with it.

Okay, you guys know what this means, right?  (Other than the fact that I will surely end up arranging a trip to “visit family” in Tokyo in January 2019.)  That’s right, it means that Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812 will be getting its first post-Broadway production in Tokyo next year!

Congratulations to the show, and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t going to make every earthly effort to get there to see it.  Because my husband does still have family living in Tokyo, we’ve been there a number of times and I’ve been lucky enough to see several Broadway-style shows there.  Let me give some straight-talk insight on what to expect from a Japanese production; those who are offended by straight-talk may stop reading now.  ;)

-The company producing it:  Toho Stage.  If I’m being totally honest, this fact has kept me up half the night worrying.  To be fair, they have produced plenty of what I would call “legit” musical theatre, including, coming soon, Fun Home, as well as everything from South Pacific (I know, whut) to Secret Garden.  The problem is that they also produce tons and tons of Bway flops and Euro-pop musicals, which is mostly my personal experience with Toho.  (Anytime a French musical is licensed in Japan, I know before even looking that it will be with Toho.  No exceptions.)  And they are usually veeeeery loose adaptations of those shows, so I am a bit concerned.  But probably I’m worrying for nothing on this point...We’ll see.

-The staging:  Japan does many musicals, both old and new, American, European, and Asian, but when it does first run versions of recent Broadway musicals, it usually makes some attempt to replicate the staging, stage design, and/or costumes.  You see much more slavish imitation productions out of Shiki musical productions than out of Toho ones, but that’s because Shiki holds the rights to every Disney musical ever, and Disney is very particular about such things.  When Toho puts on Les Mis, they do have an exact replica production of whatever’s playing in other countries, because Cam Mac is similarly particular about it--however, I’ve also seen them change many production designs for other shows.  It all depends on who’s granting the rights and what restrictions are placed on those rights.  The Natasha, Pierre rights holders would be very wise to insist on a similar production to the American one, imo, but then again, I really can’t see any of the immersive stage designs working in the theatre that Toho uses...Not because the stage couldn’t be adapted to, say, the A.R.T. configuration they used in Boston, but because I don’t think the interactive elements/jokes would go over that well with typical Japanese audiences (I think the majority of Japanese musical fans would be very uncomfortable with it).  

Whatever the stage and costume design, I imagine it will be beautiful, since I have always been impressed by that aspect of every production I’ve seen there, whether imitation staging or new staging.

The only thing that worries me about the staging is, well, the stage--or, more precisely the theatre.  Toho’s usual theatre is huuuuge compared to your standard Bway theatre.  We always knew this would be a problem if this show toured, since most touring houses in America are also huuuuge, but I always secretly hoped they’d go back to a tent format and do sit-downs in big cities that way.  I...don’t think a tent is what Toho has in mind.  We’ll have to wait and see, but I will say I don’t think I’d want to be in the back of the balcony on this one.....

-The casting:  Yes, they will all be Japanese, except for the Koreans they hire.  So, in that sense, yes of course it won’t resemble the diverse ensemble from the OBC.  On the other hand, I am quite confident they can find a girl who can look and act the part of Natasha, since most of the female leads I’ve seen in musicals there are quite ingenue-typed sopranos.  They will also make a killer Anatole.

Also, I forgot to mention: it will likely be double-cast, meaning there will be two separate actors or actresses cast for each of the most demanding parts (in this case, probably Natasha, Pierre, Anatole, Sonya, and maybe Helene), and they’ll rotate their schedules throughout the run.  This is typical of Japanese musicals, and should be interesting.

-The singing:  Compared to the OBC, it will most likely suck.  Japanese musical theatre voices are trained to sound a bit different from contemporary Broadway voices, so they usually already sound pretty different when singing regular Broadway scores, but this one?  I predict that this’ll be baaaad.  But you may say, ‘everyone in the OBC sounded “different” from a standard Bway voice, why couldn’t that work for the Japanese, too?’ to which I say, well, it’s a different kind of different.  The OBC had distinctive voices, interesting voices (which, personally, I feel like we’ve been missing more and more on Broadway in these past 10-20 years), but they were hitting very specific notes, often weird ones, since it’s Dave after all.  ;)  Not only have I not seen proof that the average Japanese musical singer can sing a score of this complexity (I’ve never seen them do Sondheim, for instance, though I know it does exist), but they seem to be mostly trained to do a sort of “Rodgers & Hammerstein” style of singing in which everyone attempts a pretty classical musical theatre sound with lots of vibrato and a woman’s break occurs very low, that is, the head voice is used where often the original show belted the notes (see: the painful rendition of Evita’s “A New Argentina”).  High belting is not even a lost art in Japan, because I’m pretty sure it was never found to begin with: clips from shows as disparate as Aida, Hunchback of Notre-Dame, and Wicked have made this clear to me, and certainly every experience I’ve ever had mixing Wildhorn with Japan (Scarlet Pimpernel, Jekyll&Hyde, etc.), or even the more poppy French musicals in Japanese.  Does every actor/actress belt flat?  No, of course not--but plenty of them do.  New contemporary musical theatre continues to move into the realm of American Idol, producing beltier and beltier music, so it’s only bound to become a worse problem over time...

But anyway, even with bum notes and heavy vibrato being consistent annoyances, will that really affect Nastasha, Pierre, which is not really an example of the “belt it higher/longer” Wicked school of musical writing?  Well, of course it will, sometimes.  Don’t expect anyone who can tear into Maria Dmitrievna in Japan.  Don’t expect Natasha will be able to powerfully slam those top notes in her “argument” scenes.  Don’t expect the end of Dust & Ashes to sound great.  And certainly don’t expect to get a reliable “PETERSBUUUUURG!!!” out of anyone (though one might say that for most actors working on Bway, too  ;)).  

And even if they somehow find a miraculous cast hidden away somewhere who can sing the shit out of the notes, there will always be:

-The translation: This shit will be difficult as all hell to translate.  Between Malloy’s own writing style and Tolstoy’s text, I really don’t know how it will be done.  I’ve attempted it myself, so I’ve already seen the challenges first hand...  Japanese is acknowledged as one of the most difficult languages to translate English lyrics into, mostly because the structure of the two languages differs so greatly: in Japanese, you can usually express pretty much any of the same ideas you can in English, but you usually can’t express them in as few syllables.  When my husband and I made a project of translating “No One Else,” it proved almost impossible to fit every idea expressed in the English lyrics into the translation without running waaaay too long to fit the meter.  This is usually solved for in professional Japanese musical translations by cutting out whole lines from the original libretto and taking, say, two lines to translate one line of English text.  It can also be solved by pretty much ignoring the English lyrics and just making up some different ones in Japanese that fit the meter and don’t sound too out of place thematically.  These methods work fine for shows that were lyrically insipid to begin with, like the Euro-pop musicals (yes, Romeo & Juliette, I am looking at you), but on Dave Malloy’s libretto???  Why bother if you have to do a hack job to make it work...?  There’s a reason Sondheim is so infrequently produced in Japan......

Now, for many of you, the translation will not affect your life in the slightest.  For my husband and other bilinguals, it will be excruciating to listen to.  He already gets annoyed enough listening to Japanese Les Mis...I don’t know how I’m going to get him to listen to a translation of lyrics he actually loves to death in English.  ;) 

Anyway, if it sounds like I’m very wary of this production, that’s because...I am.  It’s scary not only because it’s a Japanese production, but also because it’s the first production post-Bway, and nobody knows quite what sort of adaptation to expect.  I’ll try to keep the faith, while still keeping it real...  The good news is that you all will likely be able to judge it for yourself, because Toho usually puts out at least a cast recording for its musicals, and sometimes even a DVD of them!

And will I be attending, in spite of my serious concerns?  Yeah, duh, if I can swing it.  XD  I can already tell you there will be tears at the end, which is one thing I fully expect them to get perfectly right.  :’)

You’re right about the other Disney Designer dolls they’ve released so far have been ugly… but what’s wrong with the Mulan doll? I think this is the first one with a pretty face and actually has a pretty/elegant dress. I. Just curious as to what’s wrong with her?

anyway, I think the doll would be fine if it wasn't supposed to be Mulan. aesthetically, the outfit is pretty, and the bitchy expression reminds me of poppy parker or 60s barbie, which is fine.... except that's not Mulan. I don't think of Mulan as the kind of angry character who would warrant that facial expression. I saw someone on insta say that Mulan pulled similar expressions all the time in the movie, but... I don't think of it as her default expression? and I also don't think of black as one of her colors, I know part of her armor was black but I just don't think of it as part of her palette. green, blue, red, and pink are Mulan colors to me.

this designer line is definitely a risk and a huge departure from what they've done in the past, but for me, it is not paying off. and I think part of the problem is that ppl don't necessarily agree on how to modernize the princesses, and for me they are just changing way too much for them to even be recognizable beyond the faces. they should have stuck to the classic palettes imo, I saw an edit of Jasmine's dress to blue on insta and she looked so much better. Ariel wasn't the right shade of pink (among other problems), and again, I don't like Mulan in black it looks weird to me.

none of this matters to me bc I don't collect every designer doll like a freak but seeing ppl lose their minds and gush over these ugly dolls gives me immeasurable psychic damage. doll fandom in general is a circus but disney doll fandom is straight up bonkers. ppl will complain that the dolls are ugly and then spend $129 on them anyway?? get a grip disney isn't going to fuck you

also just to note that I didn't like the original designer line in 2011, either, I think most of those looks fell flat but at least they kept the palettes right. the premiere line was also hit and miss. but I don't buy any LEs except Anna so it doesn't affect me lmao she's only been in the fairytale designer line. she's (supposedly) gonna be in this one but I already buy most of her merch no matter how ugly it is so whatever.

tl;dr the sculpt/expression is off, the palette is off, she doesn't look like Mulan to me and I don't care for it.
