Okay like I legit reread your headcanons every few days because it’s feeding my delusions!
Could you please maybe do an extended bit about protective Theo and the “it’s okay I can fight” and him holding your drinks in particular, like at a party or something?
Thank you for your incredible writing, we are truly blessed xoxoxo
omg my baby, you make my heart whole <3
Of course, I can. Protective Theo is crazy. I love him.
Thought I'd break the request up into two parts, the first the 'i can fight' and then the second part (coming quickly) for the holding your drinks. I hope you enjoy <3

...
When it came to Slytherin, there was only one group, the house as a whole, trusted to run a party and that was Mattheo, Lorenzo, Draco, Pansy, Blaise, Theodore and you.
So much work had gone into planning the first party of the school year, and it was the first time you'd felt grown up.
Such a jump from the year prior. Yes, you're the same you, but your mind and body have changed.
You were becoming into a women, and it was a sight to see.
There was one person who loved the new, adulting, you, more than anyone, your boyfriend, Theodore. He made an exhausting effort to show everybody that you were his.
As you and your friends sat upon the cold leather of the common room couches, ideas dripped off your tongues: how much alcohol you could provide, how to keep teachers out, and how to make sure the Gryffindors kept their little lion paws out of your way.
With a plan in hand and a definitive decision to get fucked up, the party was just two sleep away.
Adrenaline ready to shoot out of your veins, how could you even get through classes knowing you were one day closer to a party.
Now, it was the afternoon of, and yet everything still depended on one thing: Slytherin winning the first Quittich game of the season. If they lost, the snakes would crawl back into their dorms silent, but if they won, they wouldn't forget it, celebrating until dawn.
Finding your place on the table of the great hall, you watched your friends faces closely. Draco, a snitch in hand, practising his reflexes. Blaise, eating for his strength, Mattheo and Theodore, reworking the team's format, and Lorenzo stretching his arms. So much was riding on them getting this game right, they had so much to lose.
"How about, if we win, I get to take your girlfriend out to Hogsmeade, Nott?" laughed Fred, breaking Theos eyes off the paper in front of him
"How about you shut the fuck up and go home to your haystack, Weasley", hissed Theodore,
"Just suggesting" Fred continued walking away
"Watch your ass on the field today. The only sea of red your Gryffindors will be seeing is gonna be your fucking blood on my bludger," Theo called out calmly
"Leave it Teddy" you muttered, hands linking beneath the table
"Let it go. He's just trying to get in all your heads, alright, seriously Theodore, your face is so red with anger its almost the same shade as Weasleys hair" Pansy laugh
"Shove off Pans" said Theo as he threw his head back, letting out a small huff, the games just an hour away, the party, hopefully hours away also.
Sitting in the stands next to Pansy, surrounded by your whole house, didn't help your nerves. The teams flew out with such speed that it almost made you smile.
The game presented as they usually do, intense, when Draco finally caught the snitch, you shit up and the crowd sang with victory.
Thank merlin, you sighed.
You waited patiently outside the boys change rooms, when they all strut out, smiles beaming, you run to Theo
"You did so good!" you exclaim as he picks you up, kissing your cheek
"Cause I had my lucky charm in the crowd" he says
"Lets fucking go!" you hear Enzo yell running down the hallway
"Parties on?" you ask "Parties so on baby" he confirmed as he draped a heavy arm around you
"I invited all the houses" he confesses
"Even Gryiffindor?" you ask suprised
"Oh yeah, let them eat the loss" he grins
"You're evil, even Weasley, after what he said before?" you laugh
"You have no idea. I invited him personally" he chuckles before stopping you, his hand creeping behind your neck
"Now, you wear whatever you want tonight; I can fight," he says, his dead eyes staring right into yours. Then he presses a kiss to your forehead and sends you off.
You knew what that meant, he would be looking for trouble, one person slipped up, and Theo would show everyone he means what he says.
It was exhilarating, and he was possessively intoxicating.

The Game
Tumblr media
🔞Minors Do Not Interact🔞
A/N: So this was inspired by crazy, horny ramblings from discord. I just love my man and threesomes are pretty fun (even if they are a monster to actually write lol). All characters are aged up.
Pairing: Neteyam x Fem!Na'vi!Reader x Fem!Na'vi!OC
Warnings: Smut, P in V, Threesome, Oral (M and F receiving), Face Riding, Sapphic Kissing/Touching, Creampie
Word Count: 2.6k
Summary: Neteyam gets caught up in you and your friend's "game".
Tumblr media
Everything about this whole situation was just so unusual. Neteyam couldn't believe he found himself in this scenario. It was so unlike him to get caught up. But he had been distracted. It was supposed to be another regular trip through the forest. But something was different tonight. He got careless; he got distracted. He smelled a scent he wasn't familiar with. As many times as he's walked through this forest, he knew it inside and out and he knew that whatever this scent was, it didn't belong here.
He hushed his own breath and lightened his footsteps as he moved closer to the unfamiliar smell. It was floral, but with a hint of some type of fruit that he couldn't quite put his finger on. Peeking through the bushes, he noticed your crouched form next to the river. Your back was turned towards him and it seemed you hadn't noticed him approaching you.
He almost called out to you, but when he saw your face, his voice was lost to him. To say he thought you were beautiful was an understatement. Your features were soft and round, but there was a hardened edge to your expression. Clearly a gentle and nurturing soul, but a heart made of steel and no fear.
That's where he fucked up. He got so lost in his musings about you that he let his guard down and didn't notice the second presence coming up behind him until a strong hand grabbed ahold of his kuru and a cool blade was pressed against his throat.
"Move slowly..." the second voice speaks lowly to him.
She stands to her feet and brings Neteyam with her and moves both of them through the bushes into the clearing. "Who did you find this time, Ìze?" you say brushing your braids out of your face.
With a sly grin, she walks him closer to you, "We got a big catch this time. None other than the prince of the Omatikaya himself."
"What is this?" Neteyam asks, trying to piece together the unfolding situation.
"Why don't you tell us? You were the one watching me, weren't you?" you say walking up to him and trailing your fingers over his broad chest.
His ears pin themselves to his head feeling embarrassed at being caught and called out. "Fine. So what do you want?"
Ìze chuckles behind him, "Same thing that you want, pretty boy." Her hand on his kuru eases its grip and starts to lightly stroke the base making Neteyam's breath grow heavy.
"It's okay, Nete~..." you say his name with a sweet tease. "We just want to play with you a little bit..."
"How do you know my name?" he asks, trying to not let the quiver in his voice show.
"Oh, you are famous even among other clans, Mr. future olo'eyktan." Ìze answers finally lowering her knife from his throat. And yet, Neteyam still makes no attempt to escape.
"I've been dying to find out if the Omatikaya prince tastes as good as he looks", you continue letting your fingers dance along the waist of his tewng.
Ìze slowly circles around to his front letting his kuru slide sensually through her hand before letting it fall. Now that Neteyam could clearly see her face, he could see that she was beautiful too, but in an entirely different way. Where your beauty radiated nurturing warmth and hidden power, Ìze was beautiful in an intimidating way. She was clearly the hunter type and everything from her posture to her voice commanded respect.
"So take your pick, Nete~" Ìze teases the nickname.
Neteyam tries desperately to quickly rework his malfunctioning brain to come up with some kind of a response. But any words that come to mind, die in his throat before they ever make it to his lips. His eyes just flicker back and forth between the two of you trying to make sense of at least some part of this.
"What's the matter?" you ask, stepping closer and running your hand along his perfectly chiseled jaw. "Yerik got your tongue?"
Neteyam's not sure why he did what he did next. Maybe it was how sweet you smelled or the shiver he felt all the way down to his tail when you touched him. Regardless of why, he grabs you by the waist and pulls you in close against him.
Your eyes go wide with excitement and a devilish grin plasters itself on your face. Ìze's expression mimics your own at the unfolding situation in front of you both. You're not quite done having your fun yet, though. You lift up on your toes and press light kisses to his cheeks, his nose, the corners of his mouth, his chin, everywhere except where he really wants you. When his patience runs thin, Neteyam uses two fingers to hold your chin and keep you in place so that he can properly place a firm kiss on your lips.
His lips are in perfect sync moving against yours, but before you can fully comprehend anything, his tongue is swiping at your lower lip begging to be let in. You eagerly grant him entrance just as you feel another set of hands wrap around you and cup your breasts. Neteyam’s tongue dances with yours where he clearly sets the tone and takes the lead and you’re more than happy to submit to him. You sigh into the kiss feeling Ìze give your earlobe a playful nip. You finally pull back from the kiss leaving a thin string of saliva connecting your lips together.
“My turn” Ìze says still groping at your body that was thoroughly trapped between the two of them.
She leans in over your shoulder pressing her lips to Neteyam’s and the kiss is a fierce battle of wills between the two of them. Their tongues fight for dominance as you let your hands trail lower down his toned body and you feel the outline of his dick through his tewng. Feeling how big and stiff he is right now has your breath growing heavy with anticipation. Your eagerness clearly overtakes you when your fingers get busy untying his loincloth.
When they finally break their kiss, both of their chests are heaving for air. Neteyam locks eyes with you and his blown pupils and half lidded eyes match your own. He lets you continue on your mission to rid him of the offensive cloth until it falls while he licks and nips at your neck. He breathes in deep, heady breaths of your intoxicating scent and you make no attempt to stop him from scenting you. Ìze says in your ear, “looks like the prince has taken a liking to you” with a giggle in her voice.
“It would seem so. I’ll take the first round and then we’ll switch?” you suggest with a slight moan escaping when his tongue glides just below your ear.
“Sounds good to me.”
Neteyam is so lost in leaving little marks on your otherwise perfect skin that he doesn’t even hear the two of you scheming. It’s not until you push him away by his chest that he finally breaks out of his trance. Neteyam focuses on the two pairs of eyes trained on him. More specifically, on his thick cock standing tall and proud in front of him.
“Lay down” Ìze instructs.
His ears twitch back and forth signaling that he heard her, but his tail sways in hesitation.
“Relax, your highness. Let us take care of everything.” you say tail practically thrashing behind you with excitement.
Neteyam feels like he’s having an out of body experience, watching himself follow your instructions as he lays down on the soft, glowy moss.
He watches on in curiosity and amazement when you and Ìze strip off your own tewngs in front of him leaving the three of you bare together. You approach him from the bottom while Ìze walks around to the top of Neteyam’s head. Getting down on your hands and knees, you crawl over to him and settle yourself between his thighs that twitch and jump under the gentle caress of your fingertips. It feels like you could start drooling when you finally hold him in your hand. He’s so thick and heavy in your grasp, your fingers can just barely fit all the way around.
Dragging the flat of your tongue up his length, you can see Neteyam’s abs tremble with the shuddering breath he releases. Your tongue travels up his whole length and then you take his tip into your mouth. Beads of tangy precum coat your tongue and you hum around him in satisfaction at the flavor.
The beads in his braids clink together as Neteyam’s head falls back to the ground. When he looks up, Ìze is crouched over him grinning like a devil at him.
“Ah ah ah, eyes forward, pretty boy.” She says, grabbing his face and pointing his eyes back at you. You hold searing eye contact with him while you slide him all the way into your mouth, making small gagging sounds when he brushes the back of your tongue.
“She’s doing such a good job for you, isn’t she? Doesn’t she just look so gorgeous swallowing your cock?”
If your lips weren’t currently occupied, they would be tugging into a smirk watching the prince’s composure crumble. Ìze always loved taking the lead in these situations. Meanwhile, you were more of a pleaser. Nothing compared to the rush you felt when you would watch a strong warrior or proficient hunter melt under you.
Neteyam finally can’t hold your gaze any more when you shoot a wink his way. It’s more than he can handle. His eyes squeeze close while you continue to bob your head up and down on his length. Ìze takes the opportunity to turn his face back to her and capture his lips in another heated kiss.
Neteyam moans into her mouth when you hollow out your cheeks and he swallows the small chuckles she lets out.
When you and Ìze lock eyes, a silent understanding is shared between you. You pull off of Neteyam with an audible ‘pop’ and Ìze pulls back from their kiss and Neteyam is left with his head still spinning figuring out what’s happening.
“Time to see if the prince lives up to his reputation. What do you think?” Ìze teases.
“Oh, I’m sure that he won’t disappoint us” you muse, stalking closer to him and stealing a quick kiss. His lips try to chase after you when you pull away. He watches you intensely when you straddle his hips and hover right above when he really wants you to be. His hips buck beneath you trying to chase your heat. Every time he comes close, you lift your hips a little higher, keeping him from fully getting what he wants out of you just yet. He lets out a low growl of frustration, but it only amuses the two of you.
“Now, now, don’t be such a tease. I think we’ve made him wait long enough, don’t you?”, Ìze purrs walking behind you and placing her hands on your hips. You let her help guide you to finally sit down on Neteyam’s stiff cock. The stretch is even better than you imagined.
“Mmf!”
Every curve and ridge seems to fit perfectly inside of you. Neteyam can’t help but watch you sit down on it and watching the way his jaw falls to his chest is the exact sight that you love to see every time.
You move your hips up and down at a steady pace, coaxing small groans of pleasure from the man under you. Ìze takes her hands off you and makes her way to Neteyam’s face.
“Don’t forget about me just yet, prince.”
She uses two fingers on Neteyam’s forehead to gently push his head down for her to straddle his face. Neteyam wastes no time having his fill of her.
“Ahh…”
Both of you roll your hips in perfect time with each other on top of him. Your walls clench and hug around his thick cock while Ìze covers his face in her slick that he’s steadily lapping at.
“Ahn~! Nete!” you cry out when his hips snap up to meet yours. One of his hands holds on to your hip for more leverage to rut up into you. His other hand holds Ìze in place for his tongue to reach all the right spots.
“Haah…ah, right there!” she croons.
“Ìze…” you breathe out, reaching your hand towards her. A smirk crosses her lips already knowing what you wanted. She leans forward towards you and uses her fingers under your chin to tilt your face up to hers and press her lips to yours. Her tongue invades your mouth, muffling the sweet moans you make from every buck of Neteyam’s hips.
The night air is filled with the various sounds of wet skin slapping against skin and muffled sounds of pleasure from all three of you.
Your head is swirling with all the stimulation that almost borders on being too much. The smell of arousal thick in your noose, Neteyam’s tip knocking against your cervix, and Ìze playfully licking into your mouth has you quickly approaching your peak.
You finally break the kiss to catch your breath and notice Ìze’s glazed over eyes. It’s a look you’re all too familiar with from having done this so many times. It’s the look she gets when she’s close. She pants against your lips; the two of you practically sharing the breath. Below her, Neteyam attaches his lips around her clit and sucks on it lightly sending shock waves through her body. Her normally hardened, confident expression has melted away into something needy and wanting. Thankfully, you knew exactly what she needed.
Your hand reaches around the back of her head and grabs ahold of her kuru. Gently stroking the base of it, you lightly purr to her “let go for us, Ìze”.
As if you had directly spoken to oher core, her hips twitch and her thighs shake with her release that coats Neteyam’s face and runs down the sides of his mouth. Her pussy desperately clenches around nothing as she continues to ride out her high until she can come down.
Watching her like this always riled you up more. Made you go harder, faster, deeper. It was beautiful to watch every time. She was beautiful.
Her body relaxes and she drops her full weight down. Neteyam lightly taps her thigh to signal to her that he finally needs to come up for a breath and she climbs off of his face.
“Have fun~” she says with a slightly tired lilt to her voice, leaving the two of you to finish.
In one fluid motion, Neteyam sits up and lays you on your back on the ground. He throws your legs over his shoulders and ruts into you with more force than before. Lightning flashes through your body. Without even realizing it, your tail coils around his bicep in a subconscious attempt to help keep your mind grounded.
“Ah! Mm! Haah…Nete!”
“Cum for me, tanhì” he quietly commands you, knowing that he’s probably just as close as you are.
Your toes curl and your nails dig into his skin when your release rips through you.Your walls vice grip around him and Neteyam can’t hold back anymore. His hips stutter and lose their previously steady pace as thick ropes of white spill into you making warmth spread in your lower belly.
His lips crash into yours, still fresh with the taste of Ìze on them. It’s disorienting and addicting in the way it seems to drag out your high and make you see stars. When he breaks the kiss, you’re both trying to catch your breath.
“So?” Ìze inquires from somewhere behind you.
A smile spreads on your lips and you simply respond, “I told you he wouldn’t disappoint us”.

You were mad, furious at the world. Yeosang, with his luscious brown hair that you would endlessly run your fingers through, his mesmerizing brown eyes that you could lose yourself in for hours, his contagious smile that could light up your darkest days, his ethereal face that no museum could ever capture, who spoke with that endearing, romantic lisp—he abandoned you. It was impossible to tell whether he was suffering since he masked everything with that beautiful smile, but all you knew was that he was gone, long gone. Your angel, your reason for pushing forward, was gone.
You vividly remember the day his parents called to break the news. Your heart sank to your stomach. Though his mother’s voice was frail, barely above a whisper, you shook and sobbed uncontrollably. Your forever, your sanctuary, your escape... everything was shattered in an instant. Amidst your heart-wrenching sobs, you heard the woman who could have been your future mother-in-law faintly mutter an "I’m sorry," before she hung up the phone.
The body that once used to caress you and whisper sweet assurances that everything would be okay before you fell asleep in his arms was now lying alone, asleep forever. Nothing could tear at your heartstrings more than this moment. Your body quivered at the sight of his lifeless form, refusing to accept this devastating reality—the reality where you could no longer be with him. The vibrant soul who once filled your days with joy and laughter, your Yeosang, now belonged to the angels.
As you stood there, staring at his cold figure with his pale hands over his chest, and the light blue suit that he wore when he proposed to you on the beach at sunset, your heart shattered into a million pieces. The amount of tears that streamed from your eyes was endless, and you were utterly inconsolable. On that grim, foggy day, the world felt dull and empty, the weight of losing your lover pressing down on you like a heavy shroud. Every breath was a painful reminder of his absence, and that's when the harsh reality finally set in—your forever was truly gone.
The mournful cries of those gathered around you felt distant. You could hear the priest's solemn words, but it all just became background noise, overwhelmed by the sound of your own heartache. The scent of lilies, his favorite flowers, filled the air, clashing with my tearing heart and this utterly depressing foggy day. Each tear that fell felt like a piece of your soul was being ripped away, leaving you emptier with every passing second.
You reached out, your hand trembling, to touch his cold, still face, hoping for some impossible warmth, some sign that this was all just a nightmare. But there was nothing. His body stagnant. Your vibrant, loving Yeosang, who once breathed life into your days, was now a silent, eternal memory. As the final words were spoken and the coffin was lowered, the last remnants of your strength crumbled. You collapsed to your knees, overwhelmed by the unbearable sorrow, knowing that a part of you had been buried with him, leaving a void that could never be filled.
It’s been seven months since Yeosang left this world, and to cope with his absence, you found yourself texting his number endlessly, holding onto the hope that somehow, somewhere, he could hear you.
January 26, 4:58 PM
“How could you leave me here to suffer on my own.”
“I miss you every day.”
“I wish I could hold you again.”
“I hate being without you.”
February 21, 7:32 PM
“My Yeosang… I hope you’re doing well up there.”
“I wish I could be with you.”
“Are you watching over me?”
March 3, 1:42 AM
“Yeo.. I wish I could end it all and be with you.”
“A life without you is not a life worth living.”
April 2, 2:45 AM
“My love, can you hear me?”
“I saw your mom today, she’s doing better!”
“Better than me…”
“I miss you, love…”
“I love you.”
May 4, 6:57 PM
“Love! I got a promotion at work today.”
“I wish you could celebrate with me.”
“I bought a cake for the both of us!”
“I’m putting out a bowl for you, so when your soul comes down to watch over me, we can eat together!”
“I miss you so much.”
June 23, 1:24 AM
“You know how they say that distance makes the heart grow fonder?”
“I definitely understand that now…”
“I miss you, Yeo :(“
July 12, 5:12 PM
“It’s been seven months since you’ve been gone.”
“I haven’t forgotten about you, I don’t think I’ll ever forget about you.”
“Do you hear my desperate cries?”
“I love you more than life, Yeosang.”
“Please send me a sign if you’re listening.”
Every message was a plea, a desperate cry into the void, hoping, dreaming for a response that would never come. You poured your heart into endless texts, trying to bridge the chasm that death had created between you and Yeosang. You recounted your memories, celebrated your achievements, and shared your sorrows, hoping that somehow, in some way, he could feel your love.
In the early hours of the morning, when the world was silent, you felt closest to him. The quiet solitude of the night mirrored the emptiness you felt inside. You would lie in bed, phone clutched to your chest, whispering into the darkness, “I love you, Yeosang.” The longing was a constant ache, a relentless reminder of the love you once shared and the future you had lost.
As time passed, the messages became a ritual, a way to keep his memory alive and to feel connected to him. On days of celebration and on days of despair, you reached out to him, sharing your life as if he were still here.
The pain of his absence never lessened, but you found solace through your words. In your heart, You believed that somehow, somewhere, he was listening, watching over you, and that thought kept you going. Your love for him transcended the boundaries of life and death, and with every message, You sent a piece of your heart into the universe, hoping it would reach him.
Tumblr media
July 14, You went out to the beach with your friends. Everyone carpooled in a minivan, singing our favorite songs at the top of our lungs and playing I-SPY with whatever caught our eye. It was all fun and games until you realized how much more fun things would’ve been if Yeosang were still here. His quiet yet chaotic presence had a way of charming everyone in our friend group. You smiled at the thought of Yeosang jamming out with all of us like we did in the past.
Hongjoong, our designated driver, had compiled playlists of everyone’s favorite songs. Yeosang would always beg for the aux cord, but Wooyoung banned him from playing music on our trips. “We’ve already heard ‘Faded’ a bajillion times!” Wooyoung would exclaim, annoyed at Yeosang’s relentless desire to listen to Faded at least once on every trip. You’ve gotta admire consistency at this point. Yeosang would then look at you and pout with eyes full of playful mischief, before leaning his head on your shoulder and wrapping his arms around your hips. He would draw himself into sleep as you stared out the window, your heart full and content.
Now, as you sat in the same minivan, you could almost feel the weight of his head on your shoulder, the warmth of his embrace, and the soft rhythm of his breathing. The nostalgia was almost too much to bear. You could hear his voice in your mind, humming along to the music, his laughter mixing with the sea breeze. Every laugh from our friends, every familiar song, brought back a flood of memories that made your heart ache with longing.
All you can do now is smile, thinking about him and fantasizing about the what-ifs. What if he were here to share this beautiful day with us, to laugh and sing and make more memories? The beach, the songs, the laughter—they all felt incomplete without him.
Hongjoong noticed you spacing out, lost in the view outside the window, and he exchanged a knowing look with Seonghwa in the passenger seat. Without needing words, Hongjoong nodded and started playing “Faded” as a tribute to Yeosang, hoping to ease your thoughts. You caught his glance in the rearview mirror and gave him a subtle, grateful smile. Hongjoong returned a small, supportive smile, understanding the depth of your silent gratitude.
Wooyoung, who had once grown tired of hearing this song repeatedly, sang out with all his heart, his voice resonating with emotion. You quietly murmured the lyrics, your eyes fixed on the blue sky and the cars passing by. The song brought back memories of Yeosang, memories that were bittersweet and filled with longing.
The grieving process had been incredibly difficult for Wooyoung as well. Yeosang and Wooyoung had shared so much together, their bond forged through countless experiences and dreams. Yeosang had always known what he wanted in life, and while Wooyoung had his own dreams, he couldn’t imagine accomplishing them without Yeosang by his side. At the beginning of your relationship with Yeosang, Wooyoung had been jealous of the time Yeosang spent with you, feeling sidelined by the new love in Yeosang’s life. But over time, he had come to accept and even cherish the bond you all shared.
Now, you could only imagine the depth of Wooyoung’s pain. His leader, his best friend, the person who had been his constant companion, was gone. As the song played on, you glanced at Wooyoung, seeing the glimmer of tears in his eyes. He caught your gaze and gave a small, sad smile, his voice faltering for a moment before he continued singing. You reached out and gently squeezed his hand, offering silent comfort.
“Remember how he always insisted on this song?” Wooyoung said, his voice breaking slightly. “Every trip, without fail.”
You nodded, your eyes misting over. “Remember how you banned him from the aux?”
Hongjoong glanced at both of you in the rearview mirror. “He’d be glad we’re still listening to it together,” he said softly.
Seonghw searched for any reaction from you through the rearview mirror. The thing with Seonghwa was that he had always loved you, even while you were with Yeosang. From the moment he had met you, he marveled at all your little charms: your smile when the cherry blossoms bloomed in the spring, the way you softened every time you saw a dog on the sidewalk, the way your eyes fluttered as you woke up from naps in class. He had it all planned out from the start—the way he would’ve confessed to you after walking home one day under a cherry blossom tree, the most romantic way he knew. But in the end, it was Yeosang who beat him to it.
He, Yeosang, Hongjoong, and Wooyoung were a unit before you joined them, and you were basically Yeosang’s plus one, though they all enjoyed your presence nonetheless. One night while everyone went out to drink, Yeosang suddenly admitted his feelings for you to the guys and told them he’d confess to you the next day. Seonghwa started to feel guilty for his own feelings and tried his best to give them up so his best friend could be with you instead. He had suppressed his feelings, knowing that if he expressed them, it could ruin what you both and the  friend group had. So now that you were with Yeosang, he began to dread every hangout with the gang if it meant you were coming along because it would remind him on an opportunity he missed out on.
Feeling reassured, you had no tears left to cry. You attempted to enjoy the day without constantly thinking about Yeosang as you were already rough on yourself for the sheer fact that he wasn’t there and he won’t be there for you anytime anymore. The sun was high in the sky, casting a golden glow over the beach as the waves gently lapped at the shore. The salty breeze rustled through the palm trees, and the sound of laughter filled the air.
Hongjoong set up the beach umbrella and spread out the blankets while Seonghwa rummaged through the cooler, pulling out sandwiches and drinks. Wooyoung was already halfway to the water calling out for us to join him.
“Come on, losers! The water’s perfect!” Wooyoung shouted, his voice carrying over the crashing waves.
You laughed, shaking your head. “Alright, alright, we’re coming!”
We kicked off our sandals and ran towards the water, the hot sand quickly giving way to the cool, refreshing surf. Wooyoung was splashing around, trying to dunk Seonghwa, who threw up his hands and splashed him in defense. Hongjoong waded in next to me, a grin spreading across his face as he watched us.
“Feels good to see everyone having fun,” Hongjoong said, his brown eyes and orange hair reflecting the bright sunlight.
“Yeah…” You agreed, feeling a pang of bittersweet nostalgia. “It’s been a while since we’ve all laughed like this.”
Wooyoung managed to catch Seonghwa off guard, dunking him under the water before raising his arms in victory. “Yes! I am the king of the sea!”
Seonghwa surfaced, sputtering and laughing. “Only because I let you win, Wooyoung.”
“Oh, sure you did,” Wooyoung retorted, splashing Seonghwa again.
We spent hours playing in the water, building sandcastles, and soaking up the sun. At one point, we took a break to eat, sitting in a circle on the blanket. Hongjoong passed around sandwiches and drinks, and we toasted to Yeosang, who we knew would have loved to be there with us.
“To Yeosang,” Hongjoong said, holding up his drink. “Our friend and our guiding star.”
“To Yeosang,” we all echoed, clinking our cups together.
A bit after we all ate together, You decided to pull out your phone, suddenly remembering that you could text Yeosang. You typed out a message, eager to share the moment with him.
“Yeosang! Everyone here is having a great time! We miss you!”
You sent the text with a smile, until the message delivered green. His number was no longer active, your heart sank into the abyss. The reality of his absence hits you like a tidal wave, washing away the momentary joy and leaving you drowning in sorrow. His number was gone, just like he was.
You curled into a ball of pity, staring into the horizon as a hollow emptiness enveloped you. The vibrant day around you blurred, colors dimming and sounds fading as the weight of loss pressed down on your chest. He was really gone now, in every conceivable way.

Word Count: 9321 words
Pairings: Kim Mingyu x Female Reader
Genre/Trope(s)/AUs: Fluff, Smut & Angst, Idol! AU, but like it’s not that important. It just sets the tone, I guess? Like why he stays in a dorm, etc.
Content Warnings: Cheating AU! slut shaming, blaming, crying, fighting. Soonyoung is kind of a dick, but it’s truly very warranted. Chan makes lame jokes, and it’s adorable. Cheol is the best human ever. Insecurities about wealth and fame gap between the reader and Gyu. Mingyu is honestly the bestest boy ever, and the reader makes a terrible choice, but let’s see.
Smut Warnings: Unprotected sex, oral (f receiving), fingering, pussy slapping (like once). Is Mingyu growling a warning? Creampie. I think that’s it.

“So, I thought we could go on a road trip, just you and I. I know things haven’t been great, but I thought this could help us reconnect,” you suggested to Mingyu during dinner, and you could see him roll his eyes at you.
“I’m trying to make an effort here,” you mumbled, making Mingyu glare at you.
“Because that’ll make everything you did okay?” Mingyu asked, and you looked down in shame.
“Gyu, it was a mistake,” you defended weakly, sliding your hand over to hold his, making him flinch and move his hand away from you.
“You fucked someone else. I asked you if I was enough, and I wasn’t, so you left to find someone else,” Mingyu snarled, and you sighed.
“You were always gone for months on end–” you started to say, and Mingyu glared at you.
“Do not give me that shit, don’t you fucking dare. Do you realise I could have done the same thing? I know it’s not ideal to have me as your boyfriend, but I could have cheated on you, but I didn’t because I love you,” Mingyu’s voice cracked at the word love.
“I’m sorry,” you apologised.
“‘Sorry’ won’t change any of it,” Mingyu muttered.
“Then why are you still here?” You asked. There was no anger in your voice, just genuine and pure confusion. “Why stay?”
“Because…” Mingyu started to say, pausing to wipe a tear off his face.
“Because I still fucking love you, like a moron. I want to believe that we can move past this,” Mingyu admitted.
Your heart broke at the sight, and you got up from your seat, walked over to Mingyu and motioned to his lap, and Mingyu nodded slowly. You slid into his lap and wrapped your arms around his neck.
“I’ll do anything. I promise I won’t hurt you again,” you promised, and Mingyu simply stared at you as you held his face in your hands.
“Y/N,” Mingyu stopped you as you moved to kiss him.
“I can’t, not yet, at least,” Mingyu admitted, and you nodded quickly, sliding off his lap.
“Look, I’ll be in the bedroom. I’ve lost my appetite.” Mingyu said, sliding out of his seat and heading upstairs. You felt tears run down your face, and you hated that you were the one crying when you did this.
You wiped your tears away, cleaned up the table, and headed to the bedroom, smiling softly when you noticed Mingyu sitting on the bed, running a towel through his freshly washed hair.
“Can I help you?” Mingyu asked, snapping you out of your daydream.
“Uh, I can take the couch,” you mumbled. “No. You can take the guest room, not the fucking couch. You don’t need to punish yourself. It won’t give me any comfort,” Mingyu spat, “and,” he added, voice softer. “I said we shouldn’t sleep separately because we will get comfortable like that, and then this will be over,” Mingyu added.
“I’m giving you space,” you mumbled. It made Mingyu sigh, drop the towel on the bed and walk over to you.
“You had space when I went on tour, and you fucked someone else, so no. I don’t think space is what we need,” Mingyu explained, and you looked down, unable to look him in the eyes.
“I don’t want to hurt you,” you said dumbly, knowing that you already had hurt him, which made  Mingyu glare at you.
“You broke me. There’s nothing else left to break. However, for some ridiculous reason, I still fucking love you, and I’m trying not to get mad because, despite the fact you slept with someone else, I still want you in my life,” Mingyu said, gritting his teeth.
You stayed still, unsure what to say, unable to look him in the eyes. Mingyu just huffed out in annoyance at your silence.
“I’m going to bed. You do what you want. That’s what you seem to be good at anyway,” Mingyu scoffed as he moved away from you and moved to lie down on the bed and sleep.
Tumblr media
You hopped into the shower once Mingyu started snoring softly, and you prayed that the running water would drown out your sobs. You had done the worst thing possible to the kindest person ever and had the nerve to cry.
You finished quickly and found Mingyu’s shirt hanging on the door and, out of habit, slipped it on once you dried yourself.
Once you exited the shower, you found your spot on the bed next to him, and out of habit again, Mingyu sleepily wrapped his arm around your waist and pulled you into his chest.
You heard his soft snores and allowed yourself to fall asleep in his embrace, and just for a minute, imagine that your relationship was fine. Even then, peace was elusive as your mind replayed the day you told Mingyu that you cheated and how broken and devastated he looked.
Tumblr media
“Mingyu, sit,” you said, your voice low and emotionless. Mingyu looked concerned but did as you asked and sat down next to you.
“Wait, are you breaking up with me the day after I got back from tour? Because ouch,” Mingyu joked, and you shook your head.
“No, but you might.”
Mingyu’s smile vanished when he noticed the lack of humour in your voice.
“What happened? Are you pregnant? Because if so, we can deal with it,” Mingyu offered, and you simply shook your head, your heart aching at how kind and considerate he was.
“You weren’t here for so long. It was the night after we got into a fight, and it was so fucking stupid–”
Mingyu felt his world fall apart as the words left your mouth. “You didn’t because you said you love me,” Mingyu interrupted, refusing to believe a word, and you looked up at him, eyes red and puffy.
“Was it once?” Mingyu asked, and you nodded.
“It was so fucking stupid,” you choked out, and Mingyu pressed his lips together.
“You know, of all the people in the world, I didn’t think you’d be the one to make me feel like this,” Mingyu choked out, his voice cracking. You tried to reach out and touch his hand, and Mingyu flinched.
“Don’t you fucking dare! When and where?” Mingyu yelled, and you shrank.
“Does it matter?” You asked, and Mingyu glared at you.
“It fucking matters,” he snapped. You nodded.
“His place. I left after it happened. I just felt so guilty,” you explained, your voice cracked with each word. Mingyu nodded.
“Well, you should. I’m glad you had the decency not to defile our bed,” Mingyu spat as he grabbed his bag, stood up, and took a deep breath before speaking again.
“I thought tonight I could make up for all the time I spend away from you. I would have held, touched, and kissed you all night. I would have spent all the time I had making it right, but you decided I wasn’t worth the wait,” Mingyu admitted with a broken sob, a sad smile gracing his handsome face.
“I was lonely,” you admitted weakly, needing to defend yourself. Mingyu scoffed at you.
“You don’t think I get lonely? I fucking do, but I didn’t once cheat because I love you and respect you. Sadly, you can’t say the same,” Mingyu stated.
“Mingyu, I love you. It was a mistake, a stupid fucking mistake. Please, just one more chance. I need you to know how sorry I am,” you begged, and Mingyu sighed.
“I need space from you. For now, I need to let my anger pass because right now, I can’t bear the sight of you,” Mingyu said, and you just stared at him.
Mingyu sighed deeply and pulled you into his arms as you sobbed into his chest.
“I’m so fucking sorry,” you cried, and Mingyu placed a soft kiss on your forehead.
“I will reach out. Just give me some time,” Mingyu promised, a tight smile on his handsome face. You nodded as you watched him walk out the door, and you fell to the ground sobbing.
Tumblr media
“Y/N, wake up,” Mingyu said, shaking you awake.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” Mingyu asked as he switched on the light and noticed your tear-stained face. You couldn’t bear to look at him, not when he was still concerned about your well-being, not when you had broken his heart.
“Mingyu, I’m so fucking sorry,” you wailed.
“I know.”
You whimpered as the sobs wouldn’t stop. “I just need time,” Mingyu said, and you nodded.
“Why did you stay? Why didn’t you leave me?” you asked, and Mingyu shrugged.
“It takes a lot more effort to stay and make a relationship work than just to get up and leave. Unless that’s why you cheated? Did you want an out?” Mingyu explained, and you shook your head at his question.
“No. I just wanted to feel less lonely,” you explained weakly, and Mingyu sighed.
“I know I still love you. I just can’t trust you yet. I need time to heal,” Mingyu admitted.
“Mingyu?” You said softly, and Mingyu smiled softly back at you, wiped your tears away, and gently placed his lips on yours. It was the first time he had kissed you since the night you told him.
“Give me time,” Mingyu repeated, and you nodded as Mingyu turned off the light and laid back down, and you laid down next to him, feeling him pull you in again. Tighter against him this time, you felt yourself drift off into a dreamless sleep.
Tumblr media
You woke up the following day, found Mingyu fast asleep, and smiled when you saw how handsome and calm he looked. You got out of bed and made your way into the shower and then to the kitchen.
“Morning,” you heard Mingyu as you felt his arms wrap around your waist, his lips gently meeting your neck, making you sigh as you melted against his touch.
“Shit, sorry,” Mingyu cursed, pulling away from you.
“Habit, I guess,” Mingyu mumbled, making you pout, not letting his actions affect you too much.
He had every right to be upset.
“So, um. What are you up to today?” you asked as you handed Mingyu a cup of tea.
“I think Seungcheol hyung is coming by to hand me a present of some sort,” Mingyu replied.
Mingyu bit his lip. He wanted to warn you and tell you that the boys deeply resented you for what you did. At the same time, he wanted to see you feel as horrible as he did, so he kept his mouth shut.
“Oh! I’ll get that,” you offered when you heard a knock on the front door, and Mingyu hesitated, hoping to stop you, but he nodded.
You couldn’t hide from the boys; they had been waiting to chew you out since the day they found out. However, Mingyu was glad it was Seungcheol who was headed over. He could trust his hyung to be diplomatic. He could not expect that of Soonyoung or Chan.
“Y/N,” Seungcheol greeted you. The eyes that once held fondness and love for you were now filled with rage and anger.
“Mingyu, good to see you,” Seungcheol said as he embraced him. You wanted to leave the room, unable to hide your shame.
“Y/N, we don’t usually ever get involved in one another’s business, especially not relationships. However, the way Mingyu cried after what you did, you need to understand that none of us are your biggest fans right now,” Seungcheol spoke, and you could only look at the floor, unable to make eye contact out of embarrassment.
Seungcheol wasn’t one to get involved in his members’ love lives, but he knew Mingyu would sugarcoat everything for you, and he wasn’t going to let you think that the rest of Mingyu’s members were okay with you.
“If Mingyu chooses to forgive you, that’s his right and choice. We’ll support him, but I can speak on behalf of the other members. None of us are keen on you right now,” Seungcheol continued to elaborate.
Seungcheol’s words broke your heart; out of all the members, you had grown very close to him and Soonyoung. You knew Soonyoung would probably kill you if he saw you, but Seungcheol could be reasonable.
“I’m sorry,” you muttered, and Seungcheol scoffed.
“Not the one you need to apologise to,” Seungcheol bit back, and Mingyu knew he had to say something now.
God knows you apologised enough times.
“Hyung, um, what did you get me?” Mingyu asked in an attempt to dissipate the tension. Seungcheol smiled as he faced Mingyu.
“I got you a birthday present,” Seungcheol replied, and Mingyu laughed.
“Seven months in advance?” Mingyu asked.
Seungcheol shrugged. “I forget birthdays, except mine, so yeah, it’s an all-expense paid weekend at a fancy hotel, you know, wine, room service, the whole nine yards.” Seungcheol took a breath.
“I got it before all this happened. It was something for you two,” Seungcheol added, his words piercing your heart again.
“Hyung, we can still use it. If not, I can just use it myself, starfish on the bed,” Mingyu interjected, which made Seungcheol smile.
“Anyways. That’s all I came for. I’ll see you in the evening,” Seungcheol said, and Mingyu nodded and saw Seungcheol out.
“Hyung, she’s trying,” Mingyu pleaded once he was outside his front door as he tried to reason with Seungcheol, who simply sighed.
“I don’t doubt it, but she cheated on you,” Seungcheol said.
“She won’t do it again,” Mingyu asserted.
“I hope she doesn’t,” Seungcheol added, smiling sadly at Mingyu, who smiled back.
“Hyung, I love her, and if I can’t make this work, then I’ll leave, but right now, I want to have faith,” Mingyu spoke genuinely, meaning every word.
“Fair enough. Look, just try and keep her away from the studios and dorms for now. I can keep my cool, and so can the others, but Soonyoung will definitely tear her a new one,” Seungcheol warned.
“Yeah. I will. Thank you for the present again,” Mingyu thanked Seungcheol.
“Take care, Gyu.”
Tumblr media
“Um, I have rehearsals. I won’t be home until eight. Do you think you’ll be okay?” Mingyu asked, and you nodded.
“Yeah. I have a few meetings, and I have some work to do. Did you want to have dinner?” you asked, and Mingyu nodded slowly.
“I can give you a heads up if I am back in time?” Mingyu suggested, and you nodded, smiling sadly at him.
“They’ll come around, you know?” Mingyu added.
“It’s okay if they don’t. I mean, I wouldn’t blame them, ” you responded.
“They will. I mean. I’m trying,” Mingyu explained.
“Mingyu?”
“Yes?”
“How long will you keep trying for? I’m not asking you to dismiss the fact that you are already doing something that most people wouldn’t consider doing. I want to know because I don’t want to keep holding you down from finding the one.”
“You were the one at one point for me,” Mingyu started, and you felt your throat tighten with emotion.
“Maybe you still are. But to answer your question, I guess I will try until I no longer imagine you underneath another man. Last night when I kissed you, I felt like I was being burned. It hurts to physically love you right now, so if it comes to a point where one day I know I can’t look at you and not hate what you did, then yeah, we can move on,” Mingyu admitted.
“And if we can’t?” you asked, your voice small.
“Then we’re done,” Mingyu said, his tone calm and final.
“I need to go; I’ll message you if I am late,” Mingyu said, and you nodded at him.
Tumblr media
“You’re late,” your boss remarked as you walked in, well, ran into the office.
“Sorry,” you said breathlessly. Your boss simply shrugged at you.
“Can I see you? In my office?” He asked before heading back to his office.
You nodded, followed your boss to his office, and waited for him to close the door behind you.
“Please don’t fire me. I can do better,” you begged, your voice cracking.
Your boss shook his head.
“Not here to fire you, but I’m worried,” he explained, and you nodded.
“Relationship problems?” Your boss suggested, and you nodded.
“Do you need to talk to anyone?” Your boss asked kindly, and you shook your head. “It’s my doing,” you explained, and your boss nodded, not pushing it any further.
“Well. I need you to manage this client. You have a natural knack for charming the shit out of fancy clients, so do it well, and we can secure a retainer, and you can secure a wonderful bonus,” your boss explained, and you smiled at him.
“Anything else?” you asked, and your boss shook his head, smiling.
“Thank you so much once again for the meeting. I know it’s late, but we appreciate the effort,” your clients thanked you at the end of the meeting, and you nodded, thanking your million-dollar clients.
You left once they left the conference room and fished out your phone.
“Fuck,” you cursed when you saw it was nine, and you had ten missed calls from Mingyu and several messages. You grabbed your things and tried to drive home as quickly and safely as possible.
Tumblr media
“Mingyu, I’m so sorry. I got caught up in work,” you explained hurriedly the second you walked into the apartment, and Mingyu simply hummed.
“I got hungry. I ate without you,” Mingyu deadpanned.
“Y/N?” Mingyu asked, and you turned around to see Mingyu glaring at you.
“Yes?”
“Where were you?” Mingyu asked as he walked closer to you.
“I was at work. I have a new client, and they wanted to go over so many things,” you explained.
“You sure? Or were you with someone?” Mingyu taunted, and you shook your head at him.
“Mingyu, no, I would never,” you said, and Mingyu scoffed.
“You have,” he bit back.
“Not again,” you said firmly. Mingyu sighed.
“You know, the entire time I was waiting for you. I couldn’t help but think about it. I was wondering if you found someone else. If you were ignoring my phone calls because someone else was making you feel so good that you forgot about me,” Mingyu said.
“I love you, and I know my actions have not matched that, but I would never do what I did again. Ever,” you explained again, and Mingyu sighed.
“I guess I just have to believe you, right?” Mingyu asked with a dark chuckle.
“If you want to go or leave me, then you can,” you offered, and Mingyu shook his head.
“I need to be able to trust you again,” Mingyu explained, and you nodded.
“I was at work. I didn’t meet up with anyone,” you repeated.
“As I said, I don’t have a choice but to believe you,” Mingyu mumbled, and you frowned.
“Look, how about you join me? We can watch Netflix, and you can eat your dinner. I’ll join you for ice cream?” Mingyu suggested, and you smiled, nodding at him.
You rushed up the stairs to take a shower and change into his shirt quickly. You often forgot they weren’t your clothes; you were so used to wearing them.
Tumblr media
Once you were done with your shower, you headed downstairs, grabbed your food, and sat on the couch three spots away from Mingyu, making him smile.
“I won’t bite.”
“I don’t want to make you uncomfortable,” Mingyu nodded.
“Just sit next to me.” You smiled and scooted over next to him.
“So, these new clients, what do they do?” Mingyu asked, making you glare at him.
“Are you interrogating me?” You asked, and Mingyu sighed.
“No. I’m asking you because I’m your boyfriend. I want to know about your day. However, your reaction makes me wonder why you’re so defensive,” Mingyu explained, and you pouted, placing your food on the coffee table in front of you and turning to face him.
“I’m so sorry. I  broke your trust and your heart. I won’t do it again,” you apologised.
“Shouldn’t have ever happened,” Mingyu mumbled, and you stayed quiet, knowing you shouldn’t defend yourself.
“Y/N? Why? I know you said you were lonely, but why?” Mingyu asked.
You took a deep breath as you looked up at him, his eyes watery, and you hated that you were the cause of it.
“You remember when you were on tour, we got into this huge fight because you missed three FaceTime calls with me, and you fell asleep on the one you did remember,” you cringed as you recalled the incident.
Nothing you were going to say would make anything that you did okay.
“Right, yes, so you cheated on me because I was inattentive?” Mingyu asked, not a hint of anger in his words, just pure confusion.
“I mean, after that call, we got into a huge fight, and we didn’t even speak for another two days, and I just felt neglected,” you added.
“So one night, when I saw you giggling on a live later, I got annoyed, went to a bar after work, and well, yeah, you know the rest,” you trailed off.
“Do I know him?” Mingyu asked.
“No, I don’t even know him,” you mumbled.
“So you threw it all away for a perfect stranger?” Mingyu asked.
“Tell me. What did he do to you? What did you do to him?” Mingyu asked, and you shook your head.
“Mingyu, I don’t want to hurt you,” you tried to protest, making Mingyu scoff.
“You already have. Tell me,” Mingyu repeated, and you took a deep breath before responding.
“He went down on me, and he then fucked me,” you said quickly, like you were ripping off a band-aid.
“You didn’t go down on him?” He asked.
“No,” you said, your voice small, and Mingyu nodded.
“Did you at least use a condom?” Mingyu asked, and you nodded.
“Did you feel good? Just for that moment? Did you get what you wanted?” Mingyu asked.
“I guess I got the attention I wanted. However, no. I didn’t feel good about it; I hated myself for it,” you admitted.
“Look. I told you I want to work on us and move on from what happened, so I appreciate your honesty. However, you need to understand why I might be suspicious,” Mingyu explained, and you nodded.
“Actually, I wanted to talk to you about something, but I need liquor, wine?” Mingyu asked, and you smiled, nodding at him. Mingyu smiled at you as he got off the couch, headed into the kitchen, and returned a couple of minutes later with a bottle of red wine and two glasses.
“Here you go,” Mingyu said as he handed you a glass and sat down on the couch, this time sitting closer to you.
“So Seungcheol hyung, he’s throwing a dinner thing next week,” Mingyu explained.
“I can make myself scarce,” you interrupted, and Mingyu smiled softly at you, shaking his head.
“No, he wants you there,” Mingyu said, taking a sip of his drink.
“Why?” you asked, unable to hide the shock in your voice, and Mingyu smiled softly at you,
“Because I want you there,” Mingyu responded, and you downed your glass of wine in response to his comment and placed the glass down before speaking.
“Mingyu, I don’t want to impose. Not in a room full of people who hate me,” you said, hating how weak you sounded when this was all your doing. Mingyu smiled softly at you before taking a sip of his drink.
“No one–okay, aside from Soonyoung–no one hates you,” Mingyu admitted.
“I know I have no right to be upset, not when I did this, but I feel so fucking stupid. I feel stupid for having the audacity to be upset when this is my doing,” you confessed, feeling pathetic for being upset. However, Mingyu smiled softly at you.
“Look. You have a week to decide if you don’t want to go. I won’t force you. However, it would be nice,” Mingyu offered.
“I’ll be there,” you said, your voice still soft, and Mingyu smiled at you.
“Good. Another glass?” Mingyu asked, motioning to your empty glass.
“Yes, please.”
Tumblr media
You and Mingyu didn’t speak much, choosing to watch a Netflix series and just be near one another, trying and be normal.
“Mingyu?” You called out his name halfway through an episode, and Mingyu turned to smile at you,
“Yeah?” He responded, eyes still on the screen.
You hesitated for a second, “Can I, um. Never mind,” you mumbled, swallowed  your words, and Mingyu groaned, pausing the show.
“What?” He asked, looking at you.
“Can I get a bit of the blanket? I’m cold,” you asked, rubbing your palms together as if to prove a point, and Mingyu grinned, lifting the blanket off him and holding it up.
“Come on. You’ll freeze,” Mingyu said, motioning for you to join him under the blanket, and you froze in a different way.
“Y/N, I’m trying here, but you need to meet me halfway. I can grab another blanket for you, but I’d like to share one with my girlfriend,” Mingyu stated, making your heart swell as you nodded and crawled into and curled into his side.
“The new client, they’re designers, they deal with luxury goods, and they need someone to guide them through our consulting process and how we can be an asset to them,” you mumbled, and Mingyu smiled at you, happy to have a normal conversation with you.
“So, fancy rich people?” Mingyu joked, and you nodded.
“I’m aiming to secure a retainer agreement with them,” you explained, and Mingyu nodded,
“Well, make sure you rest in between, okay? Because you always overextend yourself, and I don’t want you burning out,” Mingyu spoke softly, and you smiled fondly at him.
“I won’t,” you promised, and Mingyu smiled, holding out his pinkie to you, “promise?” He asked, and you laughed and laced your finger with his.
“I promise,” you said, and Mingyu smiled, letting go of your hand, and pulled you closer to his side.
“Okay, now can we find out what happens in this episode?” Mingyu asked, and you rolled your eyes at him.
“Gyu, it’s Suits. Harvey Specter will do something that is not viable in reality and save the day,” you explained. The lawyer in you just could not refrain from describing how wrong Suits was.
“You called me Gyu,” Mingyu mumbled.
“Shit, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to,” you apologised, and Mingyu paused the episode and turned to face you, his legs around you as you sat in the space between his legs.
“You know, all of the restraining, the formalities. I get why you’ve held back, but it’s been two months. I’m not mad at you for calling me Gyu. It made me happy. You’ve imposed all these restrictions on yourself, none of which I asked you to do. I’m not blaming or scolding you. I’m simply saying that I want you to be yourself—the funny, unfiltered, loving and frankly unrestrained woman that I fell in love with. I know you’ll say that you hurt me being that, but I just don’t want to dwell anymore,” Mingyu explained, and you nodded.
“Gyu,” you repeated, and Mingyu smiled at you before frowning when he realised you were crying.
“Hey now, why are you crying,” Mingyu asked.
“You’re so fucking, patient. You’re so kind for what I did, and I hate that I’m the one falling apart,” you admitted, and Mingyu smiled at you, wiping a tear off your face.
“In some sick way, I appreciate it because I know you regret what you did. It’d be worse if you acted so normal. If you showed no remorse, then I’d be like fuck. I’m on my way, I guess.” Mingyu confessed, wiping your tears.
“I’m so sorry,” you apologised.
“I know. You’ve said it enough times. So I know you’re sorry, but as I said, I need time, but I don’t want to act or walk around eggshells with you because then one day that will end up blowing up in our faces,” Mingyu explained, and you nodded.
“I don’t deserve you,” you mumbled, and Mingyu sighed and pulled you closer to him.
“You don’t, but I love you. So let me decide if I can do this?” Mingyu said, and you nodded, smiling softly as Mingyu wiped another tear off your face.
“Now, can I watch Harvey Specter save the day?” Mingyu asked, and you smiled at him as he pressed play.
Mingyu adjusted himself so you were lying on his chest as you watched the episode. Mingyu shifted slightly, making his leg brush against your underwear, making you bite your lip, an action that did not go unnoticed by Mingyu.
“What?” Mingyu asked, and you shook your head.
“Nothing,” you mumbled before fixing your eyes back on the screen.
Mingyu smirked, shifting his leg again, and you couldn’t help the soft moan that fell from your lips.
“You liked that?” Mingyu teased, and you sighed, nodding, making him smirk as you both continued to watch Suits.
However, he adjusted himself, and you were sitting between his legs, his large hands tracing small circles on your thigh.
Mingyu suddenly paused the show and asked you to turn around. You did as he asked, and he pulled you into his lap.
“Kiss me,” Mingyu whispered, his hands wrapping around your waist, pulling you closer to him.
You smiled as you touched his lips, groaning immediately when you tasted him for the first time in months. You were kissing him, not just a peck, but a kiss.
You felt him run his tongue along your bottom lip, and he slipped his tongue inside you. You moaned into his mouth and kept kissing him until he slowly pulled away from you.
You were about to apologise in case you went too far, but Mingyu pulled you in for another kiss. You moaned into the kiss as his bulge pressed into your cloth-covered cunt. Mingyu moved quickly and pulled his cock out.
“I need to feel you,” Mingyu muttered against your lips, and you moaned and nodded. Mingyu moved your panties to the side, ran his cock against your folds and pushed into you.
“Fuck,” you choked out, your hands gripping his hair for support.
“You’re so fucking tight. So fucking tight,” Mingyu groaned as he let his cock stretch you open. You moaned as Mingyu guided his cock in and out of you.
He laid back and let you fall on his chest before he picked his pace, thrusting into you relentlessly. The lack of sex between the two of you meant that you both came quickly. You simply continued to kiss him, scared to speak as if it’d ruin the moment.
You rested your head against Mingyu’s chest as you felt him soften inside you, his warmth coating your walls.
“Mingyu?” you asked softly, noticing that your boyfriend’s expression didn’t match yours.
“Did you kiss that guy?” Mingyu asked, and you sighed, climbing off his lap.
“Mingyu, don’t,” you begged, making him scoff at you.
“I did. I’m so sorry,” you apologised, and Mingyu sighed, standing up and pulling his trousers up.
“This was way too quick. I know I initiated it, so I’m not mad at you, but right now, I can’t look at you,” Mingyu admitted, taking a deep breath before delivering the words that made you despise yourself further.
“The entire time I was inside you, all I could think about was the fact that you probably moaned the same way for that other guy. Looking just as fucked out, and that’s not an image I can get over so easily,” Mingyu continued.
“I’m going to bed,” Mingyu said, not sparing you a glance and heading upstairs.
You decided to stay downstairs the entire night. It would do neither of you any good to be near one another now. You felt terrible. You should have stopped him, but you missed his touch.
You hated how you had become a slave to your instincts.
Tumblr media
“Hey. Oh, you’re leaving?” Mingyu asked as he saw you sliding your heels on the following day.
“Yeah. Fancy clients, they call, I answer,” you replied.
“Like that guy in the bar? He snapped, and your face fell.
“Mingyu, I can do this with you after work. You can yell, scream and insult me as much as you need. Just not before work.” Mingyu’s glare intensified.
“Do you think I do it because I enjoy hurting you?” Mingyu asked, and you shook your head at him.
“Mingyu, I need to go,” you said, reaching for the doorknob, and Mingyu scoffed at you.
“Do you have anything you want to say?” Mingyu asked, and you sighed at him.
“I do. But I do not have the time for it now,” you explained, and Mingyu nodded.
“Just think about this as you go to work. Why do you have time for everyone except for me?” Mingyu said before storming upstairs.
Tumblr media
“Y/N, well done. The clients are impressed with you, and I think we are getting closer to signing them,” Your boss praised after the meeting.
“Thanks,” you said with no real emotion, and your boss eyed you.
“Okay, what the hell? You should be happy?” your boss asked.
“My personal life is falling apart,” you admitted.
“Well, look. It’s already three. Why don’t you head home? You killed it today so that you can take the afternoon off,” your boss offered, and you thanked him profusely.
Tumblr media
“Mingyu, I’m home. Oh,” you called out the second you entered the apartment and froze when you saw some of Mingyu’s members sitting in your living room. You got mixed reactions from all of them.
Seungcheol offered you a weak smile, Wonwoo nodded, Jun blinked a couple of times, and Jihoon looked your way to acknowledge your presence. You were thankful that the older members were discreet.
The same could not be said for the younger members.
“What are you doing here?” Chan asked, earning him a slight nudge from Jun for being disrespectful to someone older than him.
“I live here,” you muttered, and that was all it took for Soonyoung to snap.
“Right, because it’s your house, right?” Soonyoung fired back, knowing well that the building was in Mingyu’s name and not yours.
“I, um,” you stuttered, unsure of how to handle Soonyoung’s words.
“Y/N, why don’t you go to the bedroom? I’ll be done soon?” Mingyu interjected he couldn’t handle another fight with you, and he didn’t fancy seeing Soonyoung rip you to shreds, either. You gave Mingyu a forced smile and headed to his bedroom.
Tumblr media
“Hey,” Mingyu said as he sat next to you on the bed.
“They’re uh gone. It’s safe for you to come out,” Mingyu explained, and you nodded.
“Does it bother you?” You asked.
“What bothers me?”
“The wealth gap between us,” you elaborated.
“You’re acting like you’re impoverished,” Mingyu scoffed, and he wasn’t wrong. You could live a very comfortable life without Mingyu’s wealth, but sometimes seeds of insecurity would get planted in your mind, and you’d wonder if you were enough.
“You know, if you dated an idol, she’d make as much money as you,” you said bitterly.
“I don’t say this to be a dick, but no. She wouldn’t. Frankly, what we make is very high. I’m grateful, but unless I’m dating another multimillionaire, then I’d still be earning more in a relationship,” Mingyu explained.
“She’d understand your life,” you offered, and Mingyu frowned.
“She’d understand that there would be lonely nights, weeks and months. She would get it, and she wouldn’t go looking for more when she had enough,” you admitted, feeling ashamed, feeling your voice crack.
“Is that why?” Mingyu asked.
“Why what?”
“Why you cheated,” Mingyu clarified.
“Oh god no, Mingyu, I wish I had a reason why, I don’t. It was dumb, it was stupid, and it’s something I’ll hate myself for doing to you. Nothing I did that night can justify why I did what I did. There’s nothing except a dumb fucking decision,” you rambled, not realising that you were crying until you realised that Mingyu inched closer to you, holding your face in his hands and wiping your tears.
“Don’t hate yourself. I don’t,” Mingyu said quietly.
“Why not?”
“I hate what you did, but to hate you? Fuck, that’s something I don’t think I can do,” Mingyu admitted.
“Soonyoung hyung was way out of line,” Mingyu added, understanding what your spiral was about, and you shook your head and gently moved his hands away from your face.
“No. He wasn’t. He’s protecting you,” you countered, and Mingyu shrugged, not wanting to argue with you.
“It wasn’t just Soonyoung hyung. I was out of line, too. I said some shitty things to you this morning and last night. Having sex with you again, trust me, for the most part, it was good, but the minute you started to moan and get close to cumming. I couldn’t help but think of you doing the same thing for another man,” Mingyu confessed.
“But I shouldn’t have lashed out like that. I should have stopped Soonyoung hyung today,” Mingyu mumbled as you stayed quiet.
“Say something, please?” Mingyu asked.
“You had every right to act the way you did, and Soonyoung wasn’t wrong in expressing his anger,” you said calmly, and Mingyu pouted at you.
“Okay, let’s change the topic. Why did you come back early?” Mingyu asked.
“The meeting went well, and I guess my boss saw me miserable, so he let me come back early,” you admitted with a soft smile.
“Lovely, then I’m ordering food, and we can spend the day together,” Mingyu said, clapping his hands, and you traced circles on his hand.
“Gyu?” You said, making him smile.
“Yes?” He asked. You held out your arms to him, and he smiled, pulling you into his lap for a hug. You held on tightly. It was so fragile, and you were so scared to let go. You pulled away slowly, your lips inches away from his.
“Kiss me,” Mingyu whispered, his lips ghosting yours. You smiled and placed your lips on his. The kiss escalated quickly, as it always did. From being in Mingyu’s lap, you were now lying under him as he kept kissing you. His tongue was deepening the kiss. His hand moved up your body until it landed on the button of your trousers.
“Can I?” Mingyu asked, and you nodded, and that’s all Mingyu needed.
Mingyu undid the button and pushed his hand down your trousers and past your panties. His fingers found your clit, and he started to rub. You moaned into the kiss. Whimpers and pants were leaving your lips as he rubbed your clit.
When he suddenly stopped, you were so scared that the events of last night would occur again. Instead, Mingyu moved away from the kiss, pulled your trousers and panties off, and laid between your legs.
Mingyu moved to let his mouth wrap around your clit, making you buck into his mouth. You wanted to scream his name but were so scared that you’d break this moment if you spoke. Not just for the sake of an incredible orgasm but because you felt as if things between you two could finally be okay.
A sharp slap to your clit took you out of your thoughts.
“Why aren’t you making any noise? Have I lost my touch?” Mingyu growled, and you shook your head.
“No, it’s just, fuck,” you could barely finish your sentence as Mingyu pushed three fingers into you.
You winced slightly at the stretch, slowly letting out a moan as his lips found your clit again. Mingyu licked and flicked your clit while thrusting his fingers in and out of you.
“Fuck, I’m going to cum,” you choked out as you grabbed the sheets. You came and felt Mingyu lick you more. His hands held your shaking legs in place as he licked you through your orgasm.
“Good?” Mingyu asked, moving up your body, capturing your lips with his.
“Yes,” you moaned into the kiss as Mingyu smiled into the kiss.
“Can I?” Mingyu asked, and you nodded, knowing what he wanted, as he pulled his shirt off and threw his shorts across the room as he lined his thick length against your cunt and pushed in.
“Fuck,” Mingyu groaned as he started to thrust into you.
“Baby, you’re so tight, and it’s been so long. I won’t last,” Mingyu groaned as he played with your clit.
“Cum, Mingyu,” you encouraged as Mingyu started to pound into you harder, making you squeal in pleasure as you came around him. Mingyu groaned as his orgasm followed soon after yours.
Mingyu pulled you in for another kiss before moving his lips away and pulling out of you.
“No, don’t just stay with me,” Mingyu said, pulling you back into his arms.
“Gyu?” He hummed.
“I love you,” you said, and Mingyu sighed, placing a kiss on your forehead. It stung when he didn’t say it back, but you couldn’t take it.
You’d do anything to make it right.
Tumblr media
“Do I look okay?” You asked later that week as you stepped out of the bathroom wearing a simple black dress. Mingyu smiled at you.
“They’ll love you no matter what,” Mingyu offered casually, and you froze.
“I mean. Uh,” Mingyu fumbled, and you gave him a small smile at walked over to him.
“I know.” Mingyu sighed, placing a kiss on your forehead.
“You look lovely, and you know I’ll always think that, but please don’t go in expecting too much tonight,” Mingyu offered.
“I know,” you said with a sad smile, and Mingyu pouted slightly. He almost hated that he felt terrible for you, especially since you brought this upon yourself.
“Let’s go?” Mingyu asked.
Tumblr media
The entire car ride to the dorm was quiet. You were both too nervous.
“Hey, look, they might be vicious. It’s just that they care for me, so they’ll get defensive,” Mingyu explained, and you nodded.
“Yeah. I’ll be brave,” you said, grinning.
Mingyu nodded at your comment. He knew you deserved their anger and resentment, but it didn’t mean that it made it easier for him to hear it. Mingyu hated watching you sink with every insult or backhanded comment that was thrown your way.
Mingyu knocked on the door while you prayed that one of the older members would open the door.
“Y/N, Mingyu, glad you two could make it,” Seungcheol said, smiling at Mingyu and nodding in your direction.
“Come in. There are drinks and appetisers being served now,” Mingyu nodded, guiding you into their dorm.
“Go sit, look Wonwoo hyung won’t bite. I’ll be there in a minute.” You tried to plead with him, but you knew that you had lost any upper hand you may have once had.
“May I sit?” You asked Wonwoo, who simply nodded. You sat down cautiously.
“Can I get you a drink?” Wonwoo asked.
“Careful, hyung. Alcohol is the reason she’s in this predicament,” Soonyoung muttered, and Wonwoo shot him a glare. While Wonwoo was beyond upset with you, he didn’t approve of Soonyoung’s behaviour either.
“Okay, I’m here. What did I miss?” Mingyu asked, sliding next to you.
“Nothing, Gyu,” you mumbled, curling into his side, and Mingyu simply stared at his hyungs, hoping one of them would tell him what transpired.
“Alright, let me get you a drink, gin and tonic, right?” Mingyu asked as he stood up and headed back into the kitchen before you could stop him.
“Alright, here you go,” Mingyu returned, thankfully, quickly as he handed you your drink.
“Oh, Mingyu, are you excited about your project? You’ll be co-writing with Yuri for her solo?” Jun asked in an attempt to ease the tension in the room.
“Actually, yeah. She texted me about the song. I think it’ll be really cool. I’m meeting her at her studio next week,” Mingyu responded, and you loved seeing how lively he looked when he spoke about his work.
“What’s the song about?” You asked, and you saw Mingyu freeze for a second.
“Heartbreak and betrayal,” Mingyu mumbled, and you simply took another sip of your drink.
“I mean, we should really thank you, Y/N. You gave Mingyu such amazing inspiration,” Soonyoung remarked sarcastically, and you cringed.
“Y/N, I left my planner in my room last week. Do you think you could get it?” Mingyu asked, and you nodded quickly, running away from the living room and upstairs to Mingyu’s bedroom, trying your hardest not to break down on your way.
You knew there was no planner, but you were grateful to Mingyu for giving you a reason to leave.
Tumblr media
Back in the living room, Mingyu was trying his hardest to reason with Soonyoung.
“Hyung, I’m trying to fix things with her, but it won't work if you keep saying things like that. She’s sorry,” Mingyu pleaded, and Soonyoung scoffed.
“Cheaters don’t change, and to her credit, I can see she’s sorry, but you don’t deserve that, and I don’t know why you’re putting up with it. You could have anyone else, and you're choosing the one who broke your heart.”
Tumblr media
“Hey.”
You heard a voice call, turned around to see Chan, and quickly wiped your face.
“Shit, you’re crying,” Chan muttered, closing the door behind him.
“No, uh, just allergies.” Chan laughed.
“Yeah, right,” Chan scoffed, and you sighed.
“Why are you here?” You asked, and Chan shrugged.
“Well, hyung sent me, and Soonyoung hyung is having a talk with Mingyu hyung. So you’ve got me,” Chan explained.
“Can I ask you something?”
“Why? I mean, did he ever upset you or ignore you? Is there something we don’t know?” Chan asked.
“I was lonely. It’s not an excuse at all. We were fighting so much. I just wanted something to numb the pain.” Chan nodded.
“Alcohol would have been a better solution, literally. It’s a solution,” Chan joked as you let out a tearful chuckle.
“Yay, you smiled,” Chan cheered.
“Don’t you hate me?” You asked, and Chan shook his head.
“No. I’ll always be upset, but hyung isn’t a baby. He doesn’t need me to coddle him or fight for him. I’m not mean, but sometimes I can lash out, and even I can say that Soonyoung hyung took it too far. You’ve always made hyung happy, and if being with you makes him happy and he forgives you, then I think we should all make peace with it.” Chan offered.
“Chan, I need to talk to her,” a voice interrupted as you saw Mingyu enter the room.
“Sure,” Chan said, waving at you as he left the room.
“He forgave you?” Mingyu asked.
“No, but he said if I make you happy, then he’ll make his peace with it,” you explained.
“Fuck, well, this doesn’t make what I’m about to do next any easier,” Mingyu mumbled, and you knew. It was over. He tried and couldn’t, and you didn’t blame him.
“I’ll pack my things by the end of the day tomorrow,”  you said as you tried to get up, and Mingyu held your wrist gently.
“No, you keep that apartment. I want to have a fresh start. Most of my things are here anyway,” Mingyu countered.
“I can’t forgive you,” Mingyu admitted, and you simply nodded, eyes trained on the carpeted floor.
“Mingyu?” You whispered his name, and he looked at you.
“I’m so sorry,” you apologised.
“I can drive you back,” Mingyu offered, and you shook your head.
“No, I’ll take a cab,” you mumbled. Mingyu nodded and turned around.
“Then leave. I can’t pretend anymore,” Mingyu breathed out, and you could hear how shaky his voice was.
You placed your hand on his shoulder, squeezing it and left.
“Thank you for everything,” you said tearfully as you practically ran out of his bedroom and out of the dorms.
Tumblr media
“Y/N!” Soonyoung ran after you, his hand on your wrist. The rest of the boys were confused for two reasons, one being that you left without Mingyu and the second that Soonyoung was the one that ran after you.
You were standing outside the dorm as Soonyoung held you in place.
“What the hell happened? Where are you going?” He asked.
“Home. Mingyu broke up with me, so I’m going home,” you admitted, and Soonyoung frowned.
“Did my comments do this?” Soonyoung asked, and you shook your head.
“No, we were bound to end. I should go,” you said sadly. Soonyoung sighed.
“I’m sorry it turned out this way,” Soonyoung apologised.
“Goodbye,” you said to Soonyoung.
Tumblr media
That night when you got home, you couldn’t cry. You just felt numb. You felt nothing. You felt dead inside.
For the next week, you called off work, thankfully your clients had gone on a holiday and wouldn’t be back for two weeks. You took a week off. It wasn’t a lot, but it would be enough for you to start over.
You did every cliché there was. You went for a facial, went for a spa day. You drank and watched crappy movies with ice cream. Drank until you fell asleep. Every night you went to bed alone and hoped for a text from him.
You just needed to know that he was okay. You knew he felt every emotion deeply, and you didn’t want your stupidity to hurt him anymore.
One night after downing half a bottle of wine, you found it in you to dial his number. You sighed in relief when you realised he hadn’t blocked you.
“Y/N, it’s three in the morning?” Mingyu groaned, and that’s when you broke all the tears that never fell.
They all fell the minute you heard his voice.
“Y/N?” Mingyu said, more awake and concerned about your heavy breathing.
“Are you okay?” You mumbled, your voice breaking with every word.
“Y/N, fuck. Are you at home? Are you okay?” You sighed.
“Yeah. I just, I’m sorry, Mingyu.” Mingyu sighed before hanging up.
Tumblr media
“Jesus, fuck,” you yelped when you saw Mingyu sitting in your kitchen the following day. You looked around the house.
“You cleaned up?” You asked, and Mingyu nodded.
“Most people change the locks when their ex moves out,” Mingyu joked, and you frowned.
“The house is under your name,” you said, giving a lame excuse, and Mingyu sighed.
“Am I okay? You called me yesterday to ask me that?” Mingyu asked, and you groaned. “Do you even care? You walked away,” Mingyu continued, raising his voice at you, and you just stared at him.
“You broke up with me,” you said, confused, and Mingyu nodded.
“I fought for us when you cheated, and you didn’t even fucking try,” Mingyu cried out.
“Gyu,” you started to say. Mingyu glared at you.
“Don’t Gyu me, I’m not yours,” Mingyu snapped, and you nodded.
“I saw the way you tried so hard to love me again. It broke you, and I want you to be happy, so I didn’t fight because you deserve better,” you yelled back, and Mingyu scoffed.
“You remember how I told you I’d be working on a song with Yuri?” Mingyu asked, and you nodded slowly, unsure why he randomly brought it up.
“We were in the studio, I think this was two nights after we broke up, and I think right before we wrapped up our session, she kissed me,” Mingyu explained.
“Oh.”
“I kissed her back,” Mingyu clarified.
“Okay.”
“But I couldn’t do it. Her lips, the kiss it all felt foreign to me. It wasn’t what I’m used to, and more importantly. It’s not what I want,” Mingyu added.
“She kissed you?” You repeated, feeling tears threaten to spill over.
“While you’re entitled to your feelings. I really hope you realise that getting mad at me for this will be beyond hypocritical,” Mingyu stated.
“I’m not. Just wow, she fits into your world. Better than I ever could,” you said weakly, and Mingyu scoffed as he stood up, moving closer to you,
“No. You can feel shitty for cheating on me, but I will not ever let you think you don’t belong in this world,” Mingyu said, and you pouted.
“I hurt you,” you choked out, your voice breaking.
“Yeah, and it fucking sucked. It still does, but one week. One week was enough to make me realise I don’t want to be without you. So we’re going to get through this,” Mingyu declared, determined, and you started to sob, and Mingyu took you into his arms, holding you tight.
“We’re going to hit reset. We will go on a first date again, and I will learn to trust you again. Clean slate,” Mingyu said, holding you close.
You nodded. Chances like these rarely come by, so you weren’t going to waste them.
“Oh and also, no more apologising. I’m not trying to rewrite history, but if you keep apologising, I won’t ever get past it. So let’s just start over, okay?” Mingyu explained, and you nodded tearfully.
“Reset?” You asked.
“Reset.”
“We’ll do this the right way,” Mingyu said, and you shook your head.
“No. I will. I’ll love you the way I should have,” you said, making him grin at you as you hugged him tightly, not wanting to let go.
You’d be damned if you lost him again.

(Drop a 🏳️‍🌈 in my inbox and I’ll respond with a queer media recommendation!)
It's not currently the season for it, but I'm gonna recommend a holiday-themed erotica anyway. Eight Kinky Nights by Xan West z”l is a Chanukah-themed f/f BDSM romance between a 51-year-old gray ace femme submissive named Leah, and a newly-divorced 49-year-old stone butch dom named Jordan.
Tumblr media
Here's the official plot summary:
Sometimes the perfect Chanukah gift can change everything. Newly divorced stone butch Jordan moves into her friend Leah’s spare room, ready, at 49, to take on a new job and finally explore kink and polyamory. But moving to NYC during the holidays sends grief crashing through her, and Jordan realizes that when she isn’t solely focused on caring for others, her own feelings are unavoidable. Including her feelings for Leah. 51 year old queer femme Leah, an experienced submissive kink educator who owns a sex shop, has recently come to terms with being gray ace and is trying to rework her life and relationships to honor that. Leah has a brainstorm to help them both: she offers Jordan eight kink lessons, one for each night of Chanukah, to help Jordan find her feet as a novice dominant, and to create a structured space where Leah can work on more deeply honoring her own consent, now that she knows she’s gray ace. She’d planned to keep it casual, but instead the experience opens cracks in the armor Leah’s been using to keep people at a distance and keep herself safe. Now she needs to grapple with the trauma that’s been impacting her life for years. Can these two autistic queers find ways to cope with the changes they are making in their lives and support each other, as they build something new they hadn’t thought was possible? This kinky polyamorous Chanukah f/f romance includes a friends to lovers, roommates to lovers, kink lessons, seasoned romance and getting your groove back tropes, and polyamorous, gray ace, pansexual, Jewish, fat, autistic, disabled, arthritis, PTSD and depression representation.
I adore this book. I was actually a sensitivity reader for this one, helping give feedback on the aspec representation. I'm mentioned in the acknowledgments and am so, so happy to have gotten my hands on a paperback copy. I miss Xan dearly. Their Twitter account is forever marked as "on hiatus," and when we lost them, we lost the best damn kink-positive writer I've ever met. May their memory be a blessing, and may their writing find its way to everyone who needs it. <3

Don’t mind me sprinting to try and get this thought in order before the Anime Expo panel. I need it to be out in the wild Just In Case.
So, a few of the Gung Ho Guns have gotten reworked for Stampede, yes? To varying degrees.
Ninelives is apparently not a horrific flesh mech, Dark Souls boss thing, according to the end credits of episode 3.
Tumblr media
E.G. the Mine just got a HUGE upgrade and didn’t get owned 3 seconds after he showed up.
Tumblr media
Monev was an actual character with a fubar backstory and emotional impact instead of just Some Guy who trained in a basement for years specifically to kill Vash. (and Orange is SO EVIL for this)
Tumblr media
Elendira is. *gestures futilely* There is so much going on there but yeah. She’s going to be terrifying once she achieves adult body and loses (drops?) the childish attitude. Also because of the whole Plant hybrid thing her nails truly are literally infinite sooooo.
Tumblr media
So I have some thoughts about Hoppered the Gauntlet.
In Trimax, Gauntlet’s narrative weight comes from the fact that he makes Vash remember, which by extension makes US, the reader, understand what July really meant. Before that we had heard mention of it a few times as ‘a city destroyed in a single night’ and talk of there being ‘no survivors’ but we had no actual connection to it, and also no real idea if that was even true. But in Stampede, we saw July happen. We were there. So even if Vash’s memory is still shot afterwards, and he doesn’t remember Lost July, we the audience DO. So having the Dragon’s nest play out exactly the same isn’t going to have the same narrative punch in the gut that it did in Trimax. It can’t.
There’s also the fact that, given how we’ve met most of the major players in the story, or had them mentioned at least (hi Milly), it feels kind of Odd™ that we haven’t seen someone has emotionally impactful as Gauntlet yet.
Unless we have.
We saw with Rollo/Monev that Orange is willing to have the person’s regular name be one thing and then have a second Eye of Michael code name. I suspect that is going to happen with Gauntlet; either because EoM or because he has decided on his own to lie about who he was.
And yes, I do in fact have someone in mind.
Tumblr media
I checked myself the translation there is accurate; the only change I would make is calling the gun ‘gaudy’ instead of ‘shiny’ but that’s not a huge deal. Also for the record, the original tweet is from Jan. 11, well before he makes his reappearance for the season finale. So when it talks about a ‘reappearance’, it is talking about seeing him again in July. Original tweet here, tweet containing the translation here.
I think Chuck Lee is going to be our Gauntlet. That he made it just far enough out of the city to survive, but that he was badly maimed in the process, and that his family didn’t make it. He’s the ONLY member of the military police with a unique design. He has an actual name, and the director himself tweeted about his backstory. His gun is so unusual that we would recognize it anywhere. Hell, I referred to him as ‘the gold gun guy from episode one’ when one of my friends didn’t recognize him immediately. His gun is so incredibly recognizable. Almost like we need to be able to recognize him by that alone, when everything else about him has changed.
THIS could be how narrative weight for Gauntlet is established in the Stampede universe when it can’t be done the same way as in Trimax. Taking a character who has, in a way, also been with the audience ALL ALONG, who was there with us for two pivitol moments, the beginning and the awakening, but who comes at it from such a horrifically different angle and bringing him back in such an agonizing way. Because he was very much in the wrong with his stunt at Jeneora Rock, but his rage over the loss of his family in July would be justified, even if we know it wasn’t Vash’s fault.
(Also, the IRONY of him ending up as one of Knives’s lackeys when Knives is the one that caused all of this? Damn.)
Footnote: I have Thoughts on why they can get away with adding Milly to The Squad late. That is a whole other Thought but tldr; (and also I haven’t actually written it out) Milly is the most perceptive of all of them she doesn’t NEED an extended intro to Vash to Know.

✦ Lost in Limbo Devlog #9 | 02.29.24
Tumblr media
What is this?! Two devlogs in one month?! More likely than you think! This February has been very productive for me and the team, so let's dive right into it!
Tumblr media
Ooooh boy, Raquel keeps knocking it out of the park! She managed to get done every expression for every LI, and I coded them all! Now we have our wonderful characters ready for their debut. We have been using the wonderful Image Tools for Ren'py made by the talented and hard-working Feniks, whose tutorials and resources save a lot of dev's lives every day! This tool has made everything a bit easier for newbies like me, hehe.
Tumblr media
Here's a taste of our edgelord's expressions! 💜 They're kind of a cutie when they put some effort into it!
Tumblr media
We also had our second valentine's day celebration art piece thanks to Kayden! Sadly with the reworked version of the demo, you won't meet Vycar yet, so we thought we could ask for his forgiveness by giving him a beautiful bouquet and reminding him how much of a sweetheart he is! 💜
Also, Raeya got a hair update!
Tumblr media
So, we weren't completely satisfied with the way we portrayed Raeya's hair, so this has been a rework we were sure we wanted to make. At first we were just going to render it again, but we ended up working on it from scratch to better represent what we envisioned for her. We hope you like it as much as we do! ; v ;💜
As always, we are open to any critique or advice; we are white people who have the luck to be able to ask POC friends for their advice as we work, but the more the merrier! Don't hesitate to send us your opinion to our ask box or even our email, [email protected]!
Tumblr media
When it comes to the background department, we have been making great progress thanks to Airyn, who is honestly leaving us with our mouths hanging open every time! Thanks to her, another background has been finished and another one is in the making, leaving only two backgrounds to be revised and approved!
Tumblr media
I personally can't stop looking at this WIP! She understood perfectly what we wanted to portray just by looking at an old WIP we had, and this is what we have so far—and it's already amazing!
Tumblr media
Allie has been OBLITERATING the script. As of today, I think we have almost gone through everything that needed to be corrected and discussing, and lord if the script doesn't look a 100% better after we put it in Allie's hands. The way she writes, the way she understands everything I want to say even when sometimes I don't even know myself—what a talented, inspiring and amazing writer they are. I know I may sound annoying at this point singing her praises endlessly, but if the script is in the state where it is now, it's thanks to her!
Tumblr media
My programming adventure of the month has been a success, if I say so myself! I've coded the characters with aaaaall their layers, their expressions, the blinking animations, made some videos, and started coding the script. Step by step as they say; I've coded 18 pages, and there's, uh...142 more to go. Haha! *sobs*
BUT WE ARE GETTING THERE! We can see the light at the end of the tunnel! I can finally click 'new game' and read the script and see the stuff going on! YAY!
Tumblr media
Some extras of the month—we are preparing a Casting Call to choose the voice acting talent that will hopefully give voice to our characters. The demo won't be fully voiced (it's impossible with the funds we have, which are...zero), but if we are lucky we'll use some of our personal savings to pay for at least a few lines for each character so you can get an idea of how they'll sound if we get funded! Raquel is preparing an art piece for the announcement, and I'm getting the document ready and asking fellow VA friends for advice :3.
Also, we have a new member here at Ravenstar Games! Some weeks ago Astro and I formally adopted our first kitty, 8 month old Riki, fulfilling one of our dreams. We got him from a feline association that works with volunteers and fosters cats who have been abandoned, cats they find on the street, and so on. Riki has been living with me since January, and he's a happy, long big boy who loves playing, cuddles, and sitting on my desk while I try to work!
Tumblr media
Say hi to the Ravenstar family, Riki! 💜
Tumblr media
A productive month full of accomplished milestones, excitement and new challenges! The team has worked so hard, and I've done my part too! We still don't want to get ahead of ourselves, but we have done a lot of stuff we were sure we wouldn't finish yet, and look at that! We are doing so well!
As you can probably tell, my batteries are starting to run low, so I'm going to leave this devlog here. Thank you all like always for cheering us on, for being here in this journey with us, and for all the love you send our way. Let's hope March is as amazing as February has been, for us and for all of you! 💜

Bring Me Home, Part 3
First, Previous
It’s been a while since I’ve shared anything from this fic. I’ve been working on it in the background, though. Might share something a bit longer in the upcoming week or so, even! Ended up reworking nearly everything I want to do for this fic, so it’s been a challenge.
This is the final segment from the first chapter I’ll share before posting to AO3. (There’s a lot more I haven’t shared, though.)
Fic Summary: Tim Drake and Danny Fenton come from very different backgrounds. But two things they have in common are neglectful parents and internet access. And so a friendship is born and secrets shared.
Word Count: 1.4k
----------
Danny’s hands shook as he held his phone. Then he cursed as it fell through his hands and clattered to the floor. He scrambled to retrieve it and his knees, rather than hit the floor, sunk through it. Eyes burning, he pushed himself up until he was kneeling on top of the floor and reached his phone again.
All of his focus was on staying solid as he dialed a number he’d memorized months ago but never saved. It rang twice and then Tim’s voice came through.
“Danny! It’s been too long since we’ve called each other! How’s it going?”
“Tim? I…” Danny’s voice caught in his throat. He hasn’t said the words yet. He tried to start again but couldn’t say a thing. Was he breathing? The phone fell through his hand again and he realized he was sinking into the floor. He choked back a sob and tried to pick up the phone, but his hands passed right through it.
He tried to take a breath, but it was shallow and shaky. He tried again and it was a little better. He focused and pushed up until he felt solid ground under his knees again. With the same determination, he picked up the phone. This time it didn’t fall.
“…ny? Danny! Are you there? What’s going on?”
“Tim?”
“Thank god, what’s happened? What’s wrong?”
His breathing was still rapid and shallow. “I… Tim, I….” He wiped away the tears he couldn’t stop.
“Danny, it’s okay. I’m here. Don’t force it. Can you breathe with me? In, two, three, four. Out, two, three, four.” Tim continued to count his breaths.
It took a few repetitions, but eventually Danny was able to follow the pattern. Even if his breath still hitched every few counts. He decided to try again. “Tim, I died,” he blurted out. He pulled his knees up and rested his forehead against them; this time he didn’t fight the tears. “I’m dead. Only…not.”
Tim’s sharp intake of breath was the only sound he heard through the phone speaker for a few too-loud beats of his heart. His heart was still beating. He was still alive. It would be okay. It had to be okay.
“What do you mean?” asked Tim after a moment.
“I told you my parent’s portal didn’t work.”
“Yeah…?”
“Sam and Tucker wanted to see it. And Mom and Dad were depressed and haven’t been in the lab for like a week. So we went down. I… I…” The words wouldn’t come and Danny almost lost himself in the memories, but Tim started counting his breaths again. Danny listened and after a minute was able to continue.
“I entered the portal. They put the ‘on’ button inside. Who does that? But I tripped and hit the button. The portal opened up on top of me. I died. I know I did. But it didn’t take. I came back, too. Only now… I think I’m a ghost. Or part ghost. I’m human. I have to be. I still bleed and I have a heartbeat and I need to breathe. Only… not all the time. Sometimes I change. Into something else. Something not human. That doesn’t have a heartbeat or blood or…”
“Danny, are you safe? I’ll come get you. We can figure this out.”
“No! My parents love me. They forget me sometimes, but they love me. When they’re around, they ask questions and mom makes dinner and we play games and its good. They have done the most amount of research on ghosts of anyone in the world. I need the information they have.” His phone fell through his hand again. “Shit!” he cursed as he grabbed for it again. “I keep turning intangible. It makes me drop everything.”
“When did this happen?” Tim was talking slowly, his voice deliberately steady in a way Danny wasn’t used to.
“A few days ago. Sam or Tucker have been with me constantly since. But both their families needed them tonight. I seem to be mostly stable now. If I can just keep myself solid.” Danny laughed and he ignored how close it sounded to a sob. How did his life end up like this?
“The Justice League can help you. Or the Teen Titans if you would rather people closer to our age. We’ve dealt with people with powers before. We can help you learn to control them.”
“No!” It came out sharper than Danny meant it to. “My parents would find out. And they love me. They’d be fine with it. They would. But…” he trailed off. He couldn’t finish that sentence. He wouldn’t. He would not give voice to the fear that was growing in the back of his head. The one that got stronger when he remembered how his parents reacted the minute they realized the portal had started working. He pushed the memories of his mom laughing gleefully as she grabbed an ecto-gun and his dad set up the ecto-line to try and catch a ghost so they could dissect it.
“Okay, okay. No league. You said you turn intangible? What else happens? Maybe we can talk through this. Figure out ways to help you learn to control your powers. Can you send me some of your parent’s research?”
Danny’s breath came a little stronger. A plan. Tim would help him and they could make a plan. “Yeah, yeah. I’ll send you everything. I’m not at the computer now, but I’ll get it to you as soon as I can. Um. I have two forms. My normal self but also a ghost self. I can turn invisible and intangible. In my ghost form, sometimes my legs disappear and I just have a tail-cloud thing. Like Casper.” He laughed at how ridiculous this sounded. “Sam and Tuck took some pictures to document everything. I’ll try and send you those as well.”
“Thank you. That would help. Not how I imagined our face reveal…”
Danny snorted. “No. Can’t say this is what I imagined either.”
“Can you control your transformations?” It seemed Tim was getting down to business. Danny appreciated that; he needed someone to help him figure out what to do next.
“Full transformation, yeah. I seem to be able to. It’s not perfect, but I’m getting there. It’s the bleed over powers. They’re easier to control in my ghost form than my human one.”
“Bleed over powers. You mean the invisibility and intangibility?”
“Yeah. I dropped like three beakers in Chemistry lab yesterday. I’m not allowed to touch any glassware for the rest of the year.”
Tim whistled. “That’s impressive. Short term, do you have plastic at home? Cups, plates, all of it. Use that for the time being. If you drop it, no big deal.”
“We do still have some stuff from when Jazz and I were younger. Good idea.”
“Next, pay close attention to what happens when you become intangible. What’s going on around you, how are you feeling? Carry a notebook and write down everything you can think of for each instance. Teachers won’t think twice about you writing in a notebook during class, so do it as soon as you possibly can. Also write down the circumstances and feelings surrounding intentional instances. It’s only been a few days. You’ll be able to get this under control, Danny. I know you can.”
Danny took a deep breath. This time it was steadier. He had a plan. “You’re right. That’s perfect. I know Jazz has extra notebooks, I’ll get one from her. Thanks Tim.”
“Keep me updated? I want to hear from you every day. I don’t know if I trust your parents.”
“Will do. I think I’ll be getting my own laptop soon, so that’ll make it easier.”
“Good. I’m not kidding—every day, Danny. And I think we need a failsafe from your end, too. You’ve got Alfred’s number if I ever stop responding so you can get updates on me. I want someone to contact, too.” Tim’s tone brokered no disagreements, and Danny realized he was smiling sincerely for the first time since the accident.
“I… yeah. That’s a good idea. Contact Tucker. He’s always got some sort of device on him and will respond the quickest.” Danny quickly listed off Tucker’s email and phone number. “Now, can we talk about something else? I need a distraction. What’s been going on in your life?”
Danny listened as Tim talked about a mission he and Batman had gone on recently. He really had the best friends.
So now they're both on the vigilante train! God, I miss writing scenes with just 2 characters. Looking over this for a final editing pass, it's so easy when there's only two characters. Nothing else that I'm working on at the moment has fewer than seven people actively in the scene. Seven plus people with strong personalities.

(I also like writing angst and think I'm pretty decent at it which also made this scene easier.)

Oscar’s eyes glowing green is weird. The sound effect is clearly the same from when they swap places, but his eyes typically glow gold/yellow. Question is: What’s happening?
And I think I might have an answer… and it requires reworking everything I thought I knew about the merge.
The TLDR of my theory is: I think Ozpin uses magic to delegate control of the body. So, Oscar’s never been able to fully control the swapping process bc he couldn’t use their magic– he has always needed Ozpin’s help to do so. The magic in the epilogue might be trying to force them to swap, to force Oscar to take control of it.
If you want to know how I got to that, keep reading. I’m excited to hear other people’s thoughts on this. ^_^
So, before now, I’ve assumed that their eyes glow because of the god of light. Even the white haired guy’s eyes glow when Ozma takes control for the first time. In the Lost Fable, during the divorce, Salem reforms with the same golden glow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have also assumed that the eye glow indicated that Oscar and Oz were swapping places. I believe this notion might be incorrect.
My main evidence for this is V7's finale. Oscar is falling, knocked out by Ironwood. Then, Ozpin's voice wakes Oscar up, his eyes glowing golden as he takes control.
Tumblr media
However, he isn't swapping control. Ozpin wasn't in control: neither of them seemed to be. Therefore, the magic must be more complicated than a simple swap.
Another moment that gives me pause is in V6C2. After the train derails, everyone's questioning Ozpin about the lamp. Oscar is able to push through, resisting Ozpin's control enough to provide Jinn's name.
Tumblr media
As we can see, there’s no golden-eye effect. Although, we do hear something: the swapping sound effect.
Usually there’s 2 parts to the swapping sound effect: a hissing sound and a lower echo-y undercurrent. It’s usually heard quickly, not lingering as the swap finishes and his eyes stop glowing. However, in this scene, the sound is drawn out as Oscar fights back– even as violins(?) start playing to amp up the tension. The moment all the music stops and the tension is released, we can assume Ozpin has regained full faculties.
Based on these scenes, I concluded that the glowing eyes might indicate either one of them taking control of the body. In this scene, Ozpin is never not in control of the body. Oscar is just able to resist, holding the body frozen in Ozpin’s expression. But then I realized something.
Outside of this scene, Oscar has never taken control over the body.
Like, I cannot think of another time where Oscar forcefully took over Ozpin or clearly brought Ozpin to control. He’s been asked permission, sure. But, in control???
In these scenarios, Oscar’s role has always been framed as passive, with Ozpin as active. Ozpin can take over Oscar no problem, with or without permission. Oz even asking is a courtesy, if anything. Ozpin can also just swap out and force Oscar to be in control (see V6 when Ozpin hides from everyone as an example).
With this in mind, maybe the eye glow isn't for whomever is in control. It’s to indicate Ozpin’s state of control over the body. Ozpin swaps in– eye glow. Ozpin swaps out– eye glow. V6C2 is the only time Oscar comes close to forcibly taking control. At that point, it might even be impossible for Oscar to do so. Oscar can try to initiate, but Ozpin has to actually do it.
This like. Drastically changed my view of how the Ozmosis works. It also might explain why his eyes are glowing green and what’s happening in the epilogue. So, I started thinking about what is likely the source of the green: his magic.
We know for a FACT, Oscar didn’t gain control over Ozpin’s magic until V7. Given we know the god of light’s magic is what dictates Ozpin’s reincarnation, it would not be a leap to suggest that Ozpin is using that magic when he swaps. Ergo, if Oscar cannot use magic, he cannot fully control the swap.
Under this scenario, my first example makes more sense. Either Ozpin was waking up Oscar (forcing him into control) OR Oscar was able to take control because he tapped into Ozpin’s magic for the first time.
When I watched the epilogue, it reminded me of the V6 scene. The prolonged sound effect, the clear struggle. He sounds like he's in pain. :(
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He says he's resisting the merge, but the merge... it's not exactly tangible?? The merge is a process not a thing. For instance, if I put a dam on a river it stops the water from flowing. The merge is the flow here. What's the water?
I have two guesses as to what these episodes are:
Less likely, but it could be his magic activating uncontrollably. Him resisting Ozpin's influence might make it harder to control. He can't use the magic, bc of course, it makes them merge faster. Doesn't necessarily explain the sound effect, but their first on screen swap was a green color.
The merge is trying to force them to co-pilot, and/or force Ozpin into control of the body. Oscar collapses both times. We could assume it's from the pain, but it could also be because he momentarily loses control of his body.
I'm leaning towards the second. There's only so much we can take from an animatic, with things getting changed in the final product.
Anyways, those are my main thoughts right now. I'd LOVE to hear other people's thoughts or opinions!

Dear Arkansas Daughter
Pairing: Joel Miller x fem!reader
Summary: A truce [2.8k]
Warnings: guilt, Andie being a menace, so much yearning, Ellie has an anxiety attack, comfort, June pushing her Mary Oliver agenda once again
Tumblr media
You don't speak to Joel all throughout the winter break. You get so busy with family events, work, and painting that you don't even notice it until a song he recommended comes on while you're working, and you reach for your phone to tell him about it. You stared at his contact for a little too long, debating your options, before you finally sighed and threw your phone on your bed.
Sarah's home for the break. He's probably busy with the girls. The last thing he needs is to hear from you after you got out of his truck without even saying a proper goodbye. The silence feels like a staring contest or a challenge of wills to see who will break no contact first. It sucks, but thankfully, Ellie is none the wiser and even texts you Merry Christmas with a picture of her and Sarah with reindeer ears on the abnormally cold December morning. You reason this is the best-case scenario for a really shitty situation. No reason for anyone to get more involved than they absolutely have to, right?
Andie's reappearance on Texas soil is a welcome reprieve from the guilt. You pick her up from the airport once she gets back from visiting her parents in Dallas and run into her arms like she's a long-lost lover. "You're here!" You yell as you squeeze her tight.
"You're here!" She mimics. Her dark curls tickle your face, and she laughs loudly in your ear, but you don't care. Just having her within the same zip code again makes you feel like a kid. On the drive to your apartment, you sing along to a playlist she curated specifically for your time together— a perfect mix of Beyonce, ABBA, and Joni Mitchell— and talk about everything from her parents to work to Vienna weather. She takes all of five steps into your apartment before she guns for your newest canvases drying against the wall.
"Those aren't done!" You scold but you couldn't stop her from fawning over them if you tried.
"Are you kidding? These are amazing." She says, gasping when she sees the corner of another one peeking out behind the stack. "Babe!"
"Alright, alright, calm down. They're still in the early stages. They probably won't look anything like this when they're done."
"You're right. I'm sure they'll be even better when they're done," she calls as you walk into your bedroom and drop her suitcase at the foot of the bed. You don't have a guest room, and there's no way you're gonna make her sleep on the couch, so you get to have a good old-fashioned sleepover again. You’re secretly really excited just to sit in bed and do nothing with her. When you walk back into the living room, she's holding an old, reworked painting with a fond smile. "Are you going to submit these for exhibition?" She asks, and you shrug as you lean against the back of the couch.
"I don't know. Maybe? They just don't feel done."
"That's because the longer you stare at something, the more things you want to change about it."
"It's not a bad thing to want to make sure something's perfect."
"If you wait for perfection, you'll never make anything, and you know that." She says, cocking an eyebrow at you, and you roll your eyes at how well she knows you. "Isn't that what you tell your students?"
"Oh, God, please don't pull the teacher card on me right now. I'm supposed to be on vacation." You groan, and she laughs.
"Does it count as vacation if we have to go to the student showcase tonight?" She asks.
"Yes, it does because you're here, and I don't have to lecture a group of thirty teenagers about pointillism," you say. "And you really don't have to come. All I have to do is show up to support the kids for a couple of hours and leave. I'll be home before nine, and then we can go out and actually do something fun."
"Is Hot Single Dad gonna be there?" She asks, waggling her eyebrows at you, and you give her a look.
"You said you'd stop calling him Hot Single Dad."
"Hot Single Dad is so fun, though," she whines. "Also, you're avoiding the question. Is he gonna be there?"
"Ellie's work is being shown, so yeah, most likely, but there will be lots of people there. I doubt we'll even see him."
"Oh, I'll see him."
"Andrea Lynn," you scold, and she throws her hands up. "We're gonna go and be professional and not cross any lines that could get us in trouble, right?" You think you're saying it more for your own benefit than hers, but she still puts up three fingers and nods.
"Scouts honor."
Tumblr media
The gallery's atrium is buzzing with conversation and excited kids from all across the district. The winter sun set long ago, but the warm lighting of the space makes it feel a little less oppressive. Small trays of refreshments make their rounds as you talk with other teachers and some parents you know. You introduce Andie to each of them, mostly to sing her praises about being a professional musician in Vienna, and she chatters away with anyone about anything. You easily kill half an hour just mingling with people before the exhibition officially starts.
At the hour, someone on the school board (you don't know their name or position, and honestly, you think it's too late to pretend like you care enough to find out) stands on a makeshift stage and says something about the importance of art in academia. You doubt it's a sentiment he actually shares, considering you've never seen him at any other art-related events, but you clap politely anyway. Halfway through his spiel, you just barely catch the sound of squeaky boots coming through the door and turn to see the source without fully thinking it through.
There, through the crowd of heads, you lock eyes with Joel. Tommy and Ellie are at his side and wave politely. Sarah must've gone home before the New Year. You think you remember him saying something about her working at a clinic in Boston? You're a little disappointed you won't get to meet her, especially after hearing such amazing things, but you can't focus on that. Joel's eyes don't move from yours, even when Ellie and Tommy turn their attention to the speaker at the front.
His hair has gotten long since the last time you saw him, the curls defiantly sweeping around his ears after an obvious attempt to tame it, and he looks well-rested. Despite the extra length of his hair, his beard has been recently trimmed and the salt-and-pepper stubble well maintained. He's wearing a nice dark green shirt (a Christmas gift?) and a well-broken-in denim jacket. He looks good. Of course, he does. Andie notices you're not paying attention and bumps your shoulder.
"'S that Hot Single Dad?" She whispers, and you shake your head.
"Not here." You beg. She seems to want to question you further about it, but she doesn't. You're sure she'll buy you a drink or two to loosen up after this and spill your guts. You sit through the rest of the speech without any more hiccups before you're finally allowed to view the gallery.
Everyone is all smiles and excited chatter when you enter the colorful room. Thrilled parents take pictures of their kids next to their work, and proud art teachers point out their student's talents to others. There's a wide array of art. Anything from photography, drawings, paintings, sculptures, and even a video of a performance projected onto the wall. You catch bits of people’s conversations and hear a lot of chatter about the artist from your school. You don’t need any more context to know who they’re talking about. You and Andie walk side-by-side in silence as you look at the different works, only talking when you come across one of your kids' works. She makes you take a picture in front of each one, and you feel a little silly, but you can't fight the pride in your chest.
Andie has always had the unique ability to celebrate you for things you wouldn't celebrate yourself for. In reality, all you did was push them to make the art and consult them through the process, but she reminds you that they might not even have made anything if it weren't for you. It makes you feel special and seen. It makes you wish she lived closer so you could do the same for her by showing up to performances and taking pictures of her in her element so she can cherish them. It makes you forget about Hot Single Dad until Tommy rushes up to you, calling your name.
"Mr. Miller, it's good to see you." You greet politely, but he's out of breath and looks stressed as he looks at both of you. He softens when he sees Andie and takes a deep breath to pull himself together.
"I don't believe we've met," he charms and offers his hand to Andie. "I'm Tommy, Ellie's uncle."
"I'm Andie, the forever teacher's pet," she shakes his hand and gives you a look over her shoulder. "Honey, you didn't tell me how handsome Ellie's uncle is." She says. Tommy smirks and looks flattered, but mentioning Ellie brings him back to the moment.
"Ellie's askin' for you." He says, and you furrow your brows and look behind him.
"Where is she? Is she okay?"
"She got real upset bout somethin' but wouldn't say. She just said she wanted to talk to you." Fuck, you think. Did she find out? If so, how? There's no way Joel would've told her, especially tonight of all nights. Is she upset about how her art is being shown? Is she mad at you? Possibilities run through your head and twist your stomach into knots, but you don't hesitate to follow Tommy. If she says she needs you, then you need to be there.
Andie follows closely behind as you and Tommy weave through the crowd until you come to a stairwell off the side of the gallery, away from overlapping voices and bright colors. When the door creaks open and echoes through the empty space, you see Joel and Ellie sitting on a step, tears staining her face. Andie says something about hanging back, and Tommy agrees to wait with her, but all your focus is on the crying kid in front of you. You wait until the door shuts behind you to settle onto the step under theirs and pull Ellie's hand out of her balled-up fist. Joel watches you carefully but doesn't try to stop you.
"Hey," you say gently, like she's a scared animal. "What's goin' on? I heard you wanted to talk to me."
"I," she tries, but her voice catches in her throat, and more tears well in her eyes. You rub your thumb across her knuckles and shush her gently.
"You're alright. Take a breath, okay?" She does, and Joel reaches out to rub her back soothingly. A few more tears fall down Ellie's face as you wait her out. You catch Joel's eyes over her shoulder, and he gives you a grateful look. All you do is nod.
"I'm not good enough to be here," she finally gets out. "Everyone's work is so much better than mine, and I... I think they made a mistake. I can't compete."
"That's not true. That's what your anxiety is telling you. That's not even close to the truth." You say firmly. She shakes her head as she looks at her dad.
"We shouldn't have even come." She says, and he pulls her under his arm, kissing her temple.
"Honey, they took your art for a reason. We're not here by accident. We're here because you worked hard and made somethin' so beautiful that they had to show it."
"He's right," you say. "Hundreds of students apply for this exhibition every year, and every year, hundreds of students get rejected. But not you. You worked and earned your spot here. How many days did you show up early to my classroom to work on it, huh?" You ask, and she wipes her eyes. She seems to calm down a little at your words but still shrugs like she’s unsure of herself.
"I don't know."
"Ellie, you were in my room for at least a month straight working on this. Somedays, you were painting before I even had a chance to turn on the lights. You got up early and stayed late, and it shows. You made something so wonderful the district couldn't keep it a secret. Do you know how many people are talking about your yellow painting?"
"People were talking about it?" She asks, and you nod, squeezing her hand.
"They kept saying they'd be surprised if you didn't win, and I'm not just saying that because I'm your art teacher. I'm saying that because it's true." You say. She chews at her bottom lip and stares at her shoes as she thinks.
You knew about Ellie's anxiety long before this moment. She's spent many planning periods in your classroom venting or crying about it, and you pointed her to the correct resources. She's in therapy and on medication to help her control it, but it still rears its ugly head every once in a while. With all the teenage emotions and daily battles, you're not surprised that it does. But it does surprise you that she can't see how special she is. She works so fucking hard— sometimes too much— and she gives her all in everything she does. Of course, people are going to recognize that greatness. Of course, she deserves to be here. Of course, she's going to be amazing.
"Every time I look at it, I just see all the bad things about it." She admits, and you sigh. Of course, she treats her work the exact same way you do.
"I do the same thing," you say, and she looks at you with wide eyes like she wasn't expecting you to actually cop to it. "It doesn't matter how much time I spend on it or if I like the concept; I will find a million things wrong with a piece before I can admit that it's a semi-okay piece of work. I have a canvas sitting in my apartment right now that makes me want to throw up every time I look at it."
"How do you get over it?"
"I'll let you know the second I figure it out," you say, and she smiles a little now that she knows she's not alone in her internal fight. "You deserve to be here, kid. You are hard-working, creative, and smart. You are going to make so much beautiful art in your life, you won't believe it. And it's true that it won't always be the best, and you won't always love it, but the thing all great artists have, regardless of medium, isn't talent. It's resilience. If you wait for perfection, you'll never make anything, so you have to keep going and making things even when you feel like it's bad because the world needs your art. The world needs you, Ellie." You say, echoing Andie's words from earlier. She takes a deep breath, and the weight on her shoulders seems lighter. Her anxiety rolls away like a wave from the shore. It will be back again and again, but she knows people are going to grab her before she can drown. She knows she's got lighthouses. She knows she's okay.
"Thank you," she mumbles, and you nod as you squeeze her hand. She relaxes into Joel and looks up at him. "'M sorry."
"You've got nothin' to be sorry for, baby girl. I'm on your team," he says. He looks at you and chews the inside of his cheek. "We're both on your team." It's a peace offering. An end to the challenge. An acknowledgment that you can't ignore each other forever. You take a deep breath and let your free hand squeeze his calf where Ellie can't see, letting him know you know.
You read a poem once in college about not being afraid of joy and taking advantage of the happiness while it's there. You remember reading the words "Joy is not made to be a crumb" and feeling your chest crack open in that funny way that only art can cause. It couldn't have been longer than two hundred words, and you read it so long ago you're surprised you even remember it, but you're glad you do. You're glad Joel and Ellie came into your life. You're glad you made so many memories with him, and you hope he'll let you in enough to make more as friends. You're glad you called the parent-teacher meeting when you did.
You decide joy is not made to be a crumb, but neither is affection. In that cold, dingy stairwell in downtown Austin, you think you could paint something about this feeling. You think you could be okay with its imperfections. You think you could even submit it. You think you could win the bet.

Faux-compositing Hazbin Hotel for more visual clarity
A while back I recolored a screenshot from the Hazbin Hotel pilot to make the overall palette look more cohesive. Here’s the original:
Tumblr media
And here’s the result.
Tumblr media
And I figure, hey, that was fun, and folks (myself included) seemed to learn from it. Why not make some more? If you subscribe to the “every frame a painting” philosophy, this is the post for you.
I’ve always had two criticisms regarding Hazbin’s colors:
1. There’s entirely too much red in the environment. I know it’s Hell, but this is really overbearing. There are ways to make the setting feel oppressive other than bombarding viewers’ eyes, y’know?
2. The background characters have so many disparate palettes that they don’t feel like they belong in the setting. This could’ve been avoided by giving the fans who designed the characters a master palette to use as a guideline. Here’s the one I used for my hellhound designs:
Tumblr media
It contains colors derived from canon Helluva Boss characters, which makes the new ones feel like they fit in the same world rather than hailing from completely different shows. For the faux-composite above, I sampled colors from Charlie and the background, and used them to rework the surrounding characters. For other shots, though, I may use the hellhound palette as needed since Helluva Boss is set in the same universe.
Let’s get to it!
Tumblr media
To start with, there’s a lot going on in this scene. We have a detailed foreground character, a detailed background, and a middle ground character caught between them. In the left side of the frame, it’s hard to read the wolfman’s silhouette against the background elements since their values are so similar. Meanwhile, the cowboy stands out fine for the most part, though his hat brim gets a bit lost in the trim of the building behind him. So basically I needed a way to make all three layers look distinct from one another.
I settled on cloaking most of the background in shadow and doing the same for the cowboy, except for rim lighting and a glow from his cigarette to highlight his face. The wolfman and cart full of bodies have minimal shading; enough to give them some dimension but not so much that they blend in with everything behind them.
We then have more background characters to deal with at the news station:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In these cases, I simply painted over the crowd with purple on a couple Multiply layers (same as my initial recolor of these folks), erasing bits here and there to suggest rim lighting and glowing eyes. Charlie’s silhouette stands out much more clearly now that the heightened value contrast has cemented her as the focus.
I tried a similar approach with the demons outside the TV store:
Tumblr media
While there was never any doubt that Alastor was the focal point here, I felt the ancillary characters’ color schemes could be more unified, and that their shading could reflect the light sources surrounding them (mainly the TVs in front of them, and the fire surrounding the horned skull demon). I also felt the wall on the right was blending in too much with the background, so I threw on some shading to make it pop.
Now we get to Charlie’s phone call:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I found it odd that the stained glass in the doors was illuminated from the inside when the previous scenes showed us that the hotel was dark. We did see a check-in desk with functional lights, but it was located waaaay down the hall from these doors. Thus, the glass is now in shadow, with some added texture on the edges to suggest its thickness.
Charlie is now also covered in shadow to fit the gloomy mood of the scene, though the rim lighting and her unshaded eyes keep her separate from the background.
Finally, the skyscraper windows in the second screenshot were way too bright, which gave them a contrast that drew attention away from Charlie. It’s never a good sign when animation backgrounds upstage the characters. So I slapped some color on them and shaded that front row of buildings to boost the overall gloom factor.
Then, Alastor arrives:
Tumblr media
Given the darkness of the previous scene in the same location, I figured it’d make sense to kill the lights in the awning for this one. And now that most of the hotel is in shadow, Charlie and Alastor stand out a lot more (especially Alastor’s hand, which was practically invisible against the red wall). It really helps that the saturated yellow of the awning is toned down so it won’t be such an eye trap any longer.
Alastor makes himself at home:
Tumblr media
...And the hyper-detailed background threatens to swallow him up.
Look, guys- I get that you’re proud of your rendering skills and all, and it’s admirable that you put so much love and care into these layouts. But, y’know, we don’t have to see the whole thing, especially not at the cost of the final frame. The portraits and wallpaper are especially distracting, battling Alastor for visual dominance. A little shading ensures Alastor is the focus without obscuring the portraits completely. Let ‘em be fun Easter eggs fans can study when they pause the video, not the stars of the show.
Alastor then regards the two grumps on the couch:
Tumblr media
There was a noticeable lack of shading in this scene (except the default shadows on what I’m guessing were 3D models), making everything look flat. With the help of my good friend the Multiply layer, I gave the background some dimension and brought the characters forward.
Vaggie warns Charlie that Alastor is bad news, and Charlie takes it into consideration:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, we have the issue of background portraits attempting to steal the characters’ thunder. In the second screenshot, look at how much those bright greens and cyans stick out like a sore thumb against the dusky pink of everything else. Was it really necessary to keep all the colors of that illustration exactly how they were for the final product?
To remedy this, I desaturated the portrait’s colors and skewed them towards red so the image would better fit the context of the scene. And parts of the picture frame next to it were blending into the wall, so I added some shading there to make it stand out more.
Sometimes, changes made to a confined area can make a world of difference:
Tumblr media
I muted the bright greens of the balloon and the flag so their saturation wouldn’t dominate everything else in the scene (again, eye traps), and shaded the stuff behind Alastor so his side of the frame wouldn’t look so busy.
I used similar tactics for when Niffty enters the picture:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the first screenshot, I plunged the left side of the background into darkness, shaded the center with mainly lighter colors, and left the right side alone since that’s where the light emanated from. This resulted in a sort of gradient effect in the shading, which let Alastor and Niffty pop out a lot more.
In the second screenshot, the vase on the right was a bit distracting in how detailed it was compared to its surroundings, and it was the only pink thing in the frame besides Niffty. I shaded it so it wouldn’t steal the spotlight without disappearing completely. There was also the matter of adding shadows to the rest of the environment, particularly the stretch of hearth the firelight doesn’t touch, and the skeletons on either side of the furnace’s opening. Just some little touches to help the world feel more solid.
Then we meet Husk, and things get tricky.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Husk’s bar was a challenge due to its plethora of light sources. The green rim lights on Husk and Alastor suggest the light’s coming from the green blackjack table, but then we also have light coming through the window, lights in the sockets of the skulls above the bar, a yellow glow from the top of the bar itself, and a faint green glow from the top edges of the wooden wall. And in the third screenshot, the window grabs a lot of attention since it’s almost smack in the center of the frame and it sports some pretty saturated colors.
I did my best to shade things in a believable manner without using too much of a single color. I’m happy with how the purple worked to tone down the window, though I might change the brightness of the blackjack table. It’s still pretty saturated and a bit distracting from Husk and Alastor, though at least they stand out from the wall a bit better.
Now for the part where things get PINK:
Tumblr media
Like wow, SO much pink. Holy hell.
I layered some yellow over Charlie and Alastor’s faces, bodies, and limbs so they’d be more discernible from the background, with extra emphasis on their faces to show just how enraptured they are during this musical number. I even left some glow in the negative space between them, representing how connected they are in this moment. Two auras become one. Or something. (Look, I am by NO means a Charlastor shipper; I just think a little more creativity in the visuals of a dance scene could convey more energy and chemistry between the partners. Especially when everything on screen is this monochromatic, like damn.)
Anyway, Sir Pent is here.
Tumblr media
That blue in the tunnel of his airship was WAY saturated, and while the reds and yellows barely managed to pop out against it, I thought I’d give them more of a fighting chance. The body of the ship is also more consistently shaded to make it feel 3D, and I added some rim lights to the tips of Pent’s hood so they’d stand out against the dark tunnel.
But Alastor’s eldritch horrors dispose of Pent in pretty short order:
Tumblr media
The extremely light glow on the left side of this screenshot caused the hotel to compete with the tentacles for dominance. And once again, there was the matter of the skyscraper windows being so bright they drew too much attention to themselves. I colored these windows with the same orange as the sky behind them, cloaked the hotel in shadow, kept a yellowish glow around the characters, and darkened the evil spirits to make them pop out.
Finally, we get the characters’ reactions to what just occurred:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Figured I’d handle both the normal lighting and the “horror” lighting for this scene. The normal version’s pretty simple: Color in more skyscraper windows, eliminate that weird ray of light that seems to come from nowhere, darken the top of the sky for more contrast with the characters, add some rim lights to Alastor to make his form more clearly defined, and remove the pentagram planet-thingy that looked like it was awkwardly resting on Husk’s hat.
The horror lighting involved some of the same steps, but with more addition than subtraction. The glow from the tentacle demons now hits our characters, lending them a greater sense of volume. Light purple shadows on the gang in the back offset the yellow glow, and Alastor now sports reflections in his shaded areas. There’s no character animation in the transition between the terror and the levity, so if a person wanted to paint this stuff in After Effects, then fade out its opacity to reach the regular lighting, they easily could. Hell, you know what?
Tumblr media
Do with this information what you will.
So what’s the takeaway here? I guess, in a nutshell: Don’t let your animation backgrounds upstage the characters. Don’t make them so intricate or busy or saturated that they hog the spotlight. They don’t need to wow the audience with how impressive they are; they just need to serve the story.
Will the Hazbin series learn from past mistakes (including those made in Helluva Boss)? Fingers crossed. As always, I hope y’all found this post insightful or enlightening in some way. See you in the next one!

thoughts about Epic Winter, & reconciling its place in Ever After High’s story as a whole
i wanna talk about epic winter because it—arguably more than any other aspect of the franchise—is definitely ever after high’s ‘ugly duckling’ piece of media, so to speak.
now obviously, a lot of it has to do with being the final big installment in eah’s main story, its premise being a side quest that sidelines the main protagonists in favor of new characters who are comparably far less compelling as the show’s actual leads, leaving the audience without any actual closure to the story which they were following.
in isolation, epic winter isn’t that terrible (though i think most would agree its better parts are the ones centered around already-established characters as opposed to the new ones), but in context it leaves a sour taste.
i entirely understand why anyone rewriting the series would either heavily rework it, only keep more important story beats such as daring’s arc & faybelle’s side plot, or completely remove the outing altogether.
in my case, however, deleting epic winter isn’t an option; my intentions are to continue where ever after high left off, and organically finish what they started. that means epic winter stays in tact, sanity be damned.
with that writing handicap, i can’t edit any pre-existing media in the ever after high animated lineup, which has forced me to brainstorm ways to recontextualize the purpose for epic winter’s place in the story and make the time spent on its story retroactively feel, at the very least, a little more worth it.
and the solution i found comes from viewing all that is introduced in the special through chehkov's gun.
(if you're unfamiliar, chehkov's gun is a narrative rule that everything introduced in a story must be done so with a purpose to serve. i.e. if you give a character a gun, they must shoot it.)
what's done is done; if we have to go on this detour following crystal winter and the top of the world, so be it. but let's pocket it like a tool that can be used later.
so here's my idea: bring crystal and the winter kingdom back into the story later down the line when the events of the story have reached a far more grandiose scale.
basically, i think the best way to use crystal would be when the story reaches a point of confronting and opposing the ruling powers in the fairytale world. having become the new snow queen, naturally, she'd be included in a gathering of the rulers of the kingdoms in the fairytale world.
i want there to be a moment in the story where the ruling powers gather together, and we see familiar faces return (including ones that we'd be introduced to after epic winter but prior to this), such as snow white, king charming, the queen of hearts, and of course, crystal.
with her outlook that would most reasonably be more aligned with the students at ever after high, she could end up being one of-if not the sole person-those present to voice opposition to whatever unfavorable verdict the rest of the rulers have made, as it would serve as direct conflict for the protagonists. she'd find herself outnumbered and ultimately her voice holding little to no power to sway the decision (especially being disregarded for her rather young age). afterwards we'd see her reflect on her frustrations with her colleagues and their rule of the system, thinking about it in terms of what kind of ruler she wants to be, before seeing her find determination towards something, though we aren’t yet shown what she actually decides to do.
the next time we'd see her would then come a little later, the conflict reaching the most dire circumstances. all hope is lost for our heroes; raven, apple, and co. would be down on their luck against odds they're unable to overcome. and that's when crystal would show up to offer her support, providing the numbers of her kingdom as allies to help better the odds. (she wouldn't be the only ally to show up, as this would be a 'getting help from all the friends we made along the way' ordeal. she would simply be one of said friends.)
crystal's help would ultimately play a part in winning the conflict. and because the audience would be familiar with crystal and the winter kingdom to a decent extent way prior to that point, the inclusion of it in the present fight at hand wouldn't feel like an ass-pull or a deus ex machina of sorts; it would make sense and feel earned for the most part.
and i think that's honestly the best thing to be made of epic winter's main adventure. we can't change it or fix it as it is, but we can create a payoff for it all later down the line. think of it like begrudgingly doing chores that lack any enjoyment factor, only to find that afterwards, you're glad you did.
so, yeah, that's my idea for how to give epic winter a genuine purpose. but i'm just spitballing.
