#I feel about fairy dolls the way other people seem to about mermaids

Allow me to unveil an unpopular opinion, if you will.
I absolutely despise mermaid dolls. From the depths of my soul, I do not comprehend why people gush over them so much. I have never seen a mermaid doll that fully makes up for the inherent downsides it has by virtue of being a mermaid.
First off: the tails. Plastic, fabric, silicone, they are always in one way or another frustrating to display, pose, or style with the rest of the doll. They remove half of the potential the doll has by eliminating any other kind of fashion creativity with the whole bottom half. If you’re lucky you’ll get a tail with an intense theme or style that can make up for that, the Monster High Scarrier Reef dolls are actually good examples of this. But usually you have the same few fin shapes and shiny colors with little variation. And the articulation joints on tails? I’m not one to find articulated joints ugly in general, but they never look good on tails. They’re bulky and break up the silhouette, and they barely do anything anyway.
Secondly: the top half. The basic mermaid shell bra/top can die a burning death in a deep sea lava vent. They are so boring it brings me to tears. Slight variations on one theme that’s played out for far too long.
Secondly part two: even when a mermaid doll gets an actual piece of clothing for the top half, it barely ever makes sense. Mermaze attempted strong theming with the tails, even if it was weird as hell at times, but winter coats? Slumber party?? Color changing car??? (That ones not clothes but it’s just so much) What even are these themes for a line of fish girls????
Third: the very concept of a mermaid fashion doll is working against itself from the start. Dolls are intended for kids, who want to play and have fun and may get a little rough with them. Mermaids inherently imply underwater adventure and play. Fashion dolls have a focus on removable and swappable clothing pieces and styling of hair. Water play + fabric clothes = damage, potential mold. Elaborate stylized fins may be more prone to breaking if they have smaller/thinner pieces (see again Scarrier Reef). This is the reason Barbie dreamtopia mermaids still exist despite being a blight on creativity. They’re cheap, cheerful, and all plastic. And again even when individual pieces or whole dolls are cute, they are as boring as day old toast.
Even when mermaid dolls are not intended for kids, and are explicitly collector dolls, you still have the design working against itself. Less fashion, more bulk plastic with limited choices for articulation depending on the type of tail you go for, harder posing and display, and even full blown collector dolls rarely go as crazy creative as they could with all their potential.
And that’s the worst part, at last: I love sea creatures. Sea monsters, crazy and beautiful fish, deep sea abominations, coral and eels and sharks and whales and all kinds of insane stuff is there for the taking of inspiration. And nine times out of ten all of that is left off the table to instead make way for the same silhouettes, the same themes, and the same type of mermaid that’s been overdone since the Little Mermaid released.
In summary, a mermaid doll murdered my dog and stole my credit cards, sometimes you just have to pick a thing to be irrationally angry about to let it all come out, and personally I don’t vibe with mermaid dolls. More on the shelves for all the rest of you!
#please don’t take this too seriously#i stand by my opinions but I’m happy other people find joy in these things#I feel about fairy dolls the way other people seem to about mermaids#we all just have something we disproportionately hate for no great reason#doll collecting#doll talk

not to be ungrateful because i loved the barbie movie, but there's never an asian barbie. i get that simu liu was one of the main kens, and i'm thrilled, but in my eighteen years of life, i've never had an asian barbie. honestly, i didn't grow up thinking i needed representation, but as i got older the people around me and messages i received put more and more stress on how important representation is. i just never had it. no one in media was korean, and i noticed people don't really seem to care about asians if we're the model minority anyway. but as i grew older, it made me more... sad, i guess is the best way to describe it. i was lucky to grow up in a diverse area and in a time where our schools made sure to foster conversations that built on our diversity, but again, no one really cared about asians despite preaching about representation. but i guess asian girls don't need a barbie, if they grow up to become doctors or lawyers or whatever career people like to assume of us.
the only asian doll i had was mulan. and for whatever reason, i'm assuming because she was a disney princess doll, her body proportions were slightly different and it affected small things like how her feet never really fit the other barbie shoes. and the only other asian doll i've ever heard of was one made specially for lunar new year. and again, not to he ungrateful, but i wish there was something a little more normal for an asian doll. like couldn't you just make a doll, and have it be asian, like how normal dolls come in different races? like it doesn't have to be a special occasion like aapi month to make an asian doll. you could just make one. be normal about it. it still feels spectacle-ish. sometimes, it feels like people just tick a checkbox to have their token asian so they can feel good about fostering diversity, but in most spaces that push for diversity, they don't seem to care about asians anyway.
when i was a girl, i loved barbie. i still do. i watched every classic barbie movie a thousand times over. it didn't matter to me that the princess or lead was always blonde. she was everything, from a princess to mermaid to actress to fashionista to musketeer to fairy and she was kind and smart and hardworking and pink, and that's all that mattered. i didn't think she needed to look like me to be happy or think that i, too, could be what i wanted. but it's just, now that people push so much for representation and having characters that look like them, i want that too. and yes, in the beginning scene there were asian background characters that were part of the barbies, but they didn't hire anyone to be an asian barbie as part of the cast. and it just made me a little sad.

A/W 2020 Fashion Month & Top 20 Collections: Before Vogue Went Blank (Part 4)
Hi all,
Welcome to part 4! It’s gonna be a bit of a shorter one because I wasn’t sure if I could fit the last few collections into my part 3 since I also want to include a ranking of my favourite F/W20 shows. I have so many ideas for what I’d like my next few posts to be (there’ll probably be a bit of gap between them as I would like to try and get some fiction writing in too) and I need help and recommendations on one post in particular so I thought I’d open by explaining that if anyone would like to send me suggestions! The post is basically going to highlight the often under-appreciated personal style of PoC, and I’d also like to make sure I include all types of bodies and genders and ethnicities (other than white girls, as we get enough credit as it is, all a tall, skinny blonde woman has to do is wear some light wash jeans, heels and a blouse and high fashion Twitter are posting non-stop about how incredible her style is)! This can be a celebrity, a model, an influencer or even just one of your friends if you think they deserve some hype too! Obviously there’s only so many photos I can include but I will make sure to look at any suggestions, though of course I’m gonna be biased towards the grungier looks; I gave Dolls Kill a pass for a long time because I thought the brand had changed and become more responsible over the last few years but since Shoddy Lynn’s thoughtless Instagram post during the protests last month and then her lacklustre response video, I say fuck that “goth is white” bullshit, alternative black women are hot af. I’ll also make sure to include a list of my favourite black owned clothing lines I’ve seen people talking about on Twitter and Instagram so again, if you have any suggestions feel free to inbox me. Other than that, I have a couple of lookbooks planned and after, either a post about my favourite shows for style inspiration OR a lookbook depending on whether I have the clothes to do it already/can source a few things from Depop-Depp-I’ve made a commitment not to buy anything new for the next couple of months and I want to stick to that this time round! I’d also like to do a general collation of my favourite summer outfits, an almost scrapbook-y kinda post, and another post on some of my favourite fashion icons (I’ll probs end up repeating a lot of the women from the post I was talking about above but I’ll try and include different outfits to keep it varied!).
Now, into the final part, and the top 20, starting with Tory Burch (I’m really pissed off because I added an unnecessary E in after the R and now Tumblr is once again being stupid and not saving any of my editing changes-also I said on the next post instead of in in the last paragraph and my anal-retentiveness is kicking into high gear).
You’d think it’s a kinda anti-climatic one to open with but I do like this collection! It reminds me a bit of last season’s Miu Miu but more so of Brock’s general aesthetic, though with more layers and in some ways to its detriment, a lot more wearable. Looking like something from a bygone era is part of what gives Brock its mystique, but Burch’s designs are practically made for the Chelsea born and bred lifestyle blogger who dresses for a cold spell in the Coachella valley all year long and treats trawling Pimlico’s furniture shops and meeting their girlfriends for coffee like it’s a full-time job. She’s probably born into money and doesn’t work all that hard but hey, she looks angelic holding a bouquet of flowers and in 2020 we all low-key want her life, right? It’d go against my ethics but...*whispers* it would be nice to be that girl just for a couple of days. It is a gorgeous collection, with a lush colour palette and an ever graceful variety of prints and textures, and it toes the line of being accessible and being worthy of a fashion week spot with dexterity. 8/10 and it only loses marks because it’s safe for the brand.
When it comes to Valentino, they’re a pretty reliable favourite for me, and this season’s collection doesn’t break tradition; this one is slightly grittier than usual too which is a big win for me. Whilst the usual sophistication and delicate details are there, quirky embroidery, sequins and tulle, we also get a lot of leather and more black than usual, which I pray doesn’t a herald a return to people thinking “I only own black clothes and listen to Artic Monkeys” is a personality trait. I don’t know if it’s intentional, but there seems to be a lot of aquatically inspired pieces in this collection too; the 3d roses resemble scales to me (and are a really unique texture), and the way the tulle is placed kinda reminds me of fins and has a mermaid on land feel. It wouldn’t surprise me, since Valentino does tend to draw from nature quite a bit. Highs for me were the Valentino red tulle piece and the tulle pieces in general, of course with the embroidered florals as well which the basic bitch in me always looks forward to. The few lows were concentrated in the leopard print section, a print that for me is really overdone and reminds me of recent Dolce and Gabbana. It was cool when layered with the matching coat but I otherwise could’ve done without it.
Vera Wang is another one of my reliable faves-I think I like this collection even more than the last, it really is a fucking DREAM. The overly floral pieces I wasn’t too keen on but I’ll ignore that on the basis that as with Gucci, the tulle-harness combo is everything I look for in a dress and more. I know manic-pixie-dream-girl is a bit of a slur (not a slur slur but you know what I mean) in terms of the associated character, but this 90s Courtney Love grunge twist on that aesthetic is gold, fully realised big anarchist fairy energy (which is a screen name I’m surprised I don’t see more often and which I might now steal). These dresses were made for someone like Zoe Kravitz or FKA Twigs on the red carpet, and if god forbid I somehow ever ended up on one, I would go to the ends of the earth to be wearing one of the dresses from this collection. Aside from the dresses, I appreciated the moody doesn’t-want-to-be-at-the-family-function teenager inspired sleeves and the 2014 Tumblr Cruel Intentions style knee high socks. Love, love, LOVE it.
So, Versace started off strong with the all black looks-the cut outs were cute if impractical and the fit and flare trousers in particularly were really well fitted (from a distance, at least). I hated the film Red Sparrow but the visuals were very cool, and this section reminded me of that, like a high fashion collection based on Jennifer Lawrence’s character. There were some stunning colour combos in the Ashish like hyper-floral part too, and the houndstooth, marble and Versace tile prints were sick. The black jumper with the flowers on reminds me of a jumper of my nan’s I always wanted that my aunty ended up donating to a charity shop after she died not knowing I liked it. Gutted (not just about the jumper obviously, looool).
HOWEVER, as with many 91 look collections, it was sloppy at times. A lot of pieces I at first liked (I.E the silver dress we saw Kendall Jenner in, included above) are kind of unfinished up close. There was also a big varsity inspired section which was nice at times but got pretty repetitive and occasionally looked like it could pass for Jack Wills or a bad Michael Kors collection. On the whole, it had both its pros and its cons which puts it directly in the middle of the pack.
Victoria Beckham’s collection is near the lower-middle quartile when it comes to plotting the highs and lows of the F/20 collections. The pieces are pretty and accessible, I’d definitely wear them, but they’re predictable and mostly a rip-off of other brands who did something similar in a more interesting way. Though her collections are never really experimental, this one is particularly safe, and she and whoever helped design this season’s pieces were clearly avoiding the edges of the box like a child playing the floor is lava. It’s alright, and I hate coming towards the end of the post with negativity, but I have to be honest, and this just doesn’t really interest me beyond a “yeah, that’s nice” glance.
Vivienne Westwood, on the other hand, is always interesting whether I would actually wear it myself or not. Despite the mix and matchiness that is essential to the deconstructed look, which being the basic bitch I am I often struggle to see past, there were some gorgeous pieces and eurgh, I could really talk about that Bella Hadid look all day. The contrast between the exaggerated femininity of the waist cinchers against the androgyny of the less structured, oversized pieces is a really interesting one and the colour combinations work beautifully together. I also love the idea behind the collection, which is, in the words of Andreas Kronthaler about “rites of spring, and the good and the bad, and conflict, and the good prevailing over evil”. Ahhh, I hear you say. THAT’S what’s with the garlic necklace. Can I get another pat on the back for summing up this collection as “vampire slaying uniform” in my notes? I mean, that’s kind of a good vs. evil situation, isn’t it? I know it’s hard to ignore how hot vampires always are in TV series and movies but just think of the true forms of the ones off Penny Dreadful and remember THEY DRINK BLOOD (I personally think being a vampire would be really cool, just need to work out how to do it “ethically”).
Lastly, Zimmerman, and I really can’t say how happy I am to end on a positive note because this collection was stunning. Not without all the characteristically ornate, indulgent and painstakingly detailed efforts we’ve come to expect from Nicky and Simone Zimmerman, these looks (in an icy winter themed colour palette as well) are the offspring of a sophisticated flower child and a 70s glam rocker and I think with this sentence I’ve finally put my style aspirations into words. Honestly, give me the money to produce a modern day Almost Famous and I’ll make my character this no-nonsense intersectional feminist front woman of a fictional Haim-like band who sings with the voice of an angel but is rock and roll as fuck and eats men for breakfast and I’ll put her in this collection and (deep breath) it would be ICONIC. There. Got to the point eventually. Am I talking about a 2020s version of Steve Nicks? Possibly. After all, I do have a framed illustration of her on my wall. But regardless, I need those lace-up velvet BOOTS, that mesh dress with the celestial embroidery, the flame detail pieces, the white pussy bow blouse with the eyes on it. Everything is sooo dreamy; when I was looking through the collection for my favourites, I saved pretty much every. single. look. IT’S EVERYTHING I STRIVE TO BE. WHY CAN’T I AFFORD ZIMMERMAN GOD DAMN IT!?
See, I’ll be going on about Zimmerman in a couple of paragraphs again because it will be very high in my top 20, which I’m so glad is a top 20 BTW. I know I said it would be a top 10 in my last post because I thought that was how I structured it last time but I double checked and it is 20, which is a relief; once again, picking only 10 collections would be very hard. SO! Let’s get into it!
1. Gucci
I hate being predictable but Gucci once again holds the top spot for me. How could I not love this? I would say that I hope Alessandro Michele fucks up next season so I don’t come off as a boot licker but when the boots in question are platform Mary Janes and knee high socks and they’re underneath tulle with BDSM inspired harnesses on top...maybe boot sole doesn’t taste so bad after all.
2. Zimmerman
Well, I did say it wouldn’t be long until you were seeing the same outfits again, so at least you know my word is good.
3. Moschino
Wow, as if putting Gucci first again wasn’t bad enough, Moschino’s also a non-mover. But...Marie Antoinette this season and Picasso last? And this campy? It’s like Jeremy Scott reached into my brain magician-into-a-top-hat-style, picked out an interest of mine at random, and tried to communicate this to me through the medium of design with THE most chaotic energy humanly possible. I an only commend the man, because he succeeded, and I approve. It’s weird because before I always saw Jeremy Scott’s designs as tacky and yet I’ve loved all the collections I’ve reviewed, so I must ask...are the collections getting less tacky or am I getting more tacky? Much to think about.
4. Vera Wang
The battle armour of a punk princess. Not very good at protecting against knives, arrows, bullets or...anything really, but I’ve never really been the kind of person to get into physical fights (apart with a bouncer who tried to push me down the stairs once at an ABBA night but I was really drunk and she was mean, alright!?), so who cares? Nobody can make you do anything in dresses this pretty.
5. Lanvin
I’m a few years behind everyone else but I’m still on the Mad Men hype train and I don’t ever want to get off. All I wish is that Betty Draper had *SPOILERS* divorced Don’s detty arse earlier and rode off into the sunset in that white Bella Hadid coat with the red lip to match (or the checkered one above will do).
6. Etro
As long as she remains the queen of dreamy bohemian fashion, I’m not gonna do Etro dirty by putting her any lower than this ever again on the basis that she’s not conceptual enough which ashamedly is what I implied in my last ranking-yes, Etro is a she because just as most women deserve more from men, she is beautiful and deserves better than my previous disrespect! I said what I said.
7. Dilara Findikoglu
I see your Thom Browne and your Commes Des Garcons and I raise you my “weird”-though-not-actually-that-weird-at-all-can-we-all-just-dress-like-this-on-a-day-to-day-basis-please? fave, Dilara.
8. Paco Rabanne
Battle armour that actually COULD protect you against knives, arrows, and bullets. Maybe. Well, you’d hope so anyway for the price.
9. Rodarte
Suddenly my phobia of spiders has evaporated. And no, it doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that these ones are diamond encrusted, what are you on about?
10. Alberta Ferretti
The colour combinations in this collection were stunning. Honestly. I just picked a really bad pic to illustrate that. Go read my first post to see (grifting 101: complete)!
11. Charlotte Knowles
I saw Bella Hadi wearing a Charlotte Knowles two piece, so I bought a Charlotte Knowles two piece.
LMAOOO, I wish.
12. Balenciaga
It’s occurred to me a couple of posts too late now on the basis that Tumblr is being a dick and won’t go back and let me edit stuff, even little typos, but I’m now wondering if there’s a link between the climate change theming of the show and the exaggerated structures of the pieces? Ya know, the whole abundance is killing the planet line of thinking? I know analysis isn’t exactly on brand with these silly mini captions and that oversized and exaggerated proportions is one of Balenciaga’s running motifs anyway buuut just a thought I had! And sidenote: I do believe overconsumption is killing the planet! The way I phrased that made it seem like I’m a climate change denying dickhead! That I am not! Maybe if I shave my head, legally change my name to Steve, get a British flag tattoo on my bicep, and spend every waking moment in my nearest Spoons I’ll get there but it’s not on the agenda quite yet!
13. Christopher Kane
If fashionable robots took over the world, they’d raid Christopher Kane’s studio and fry us all with laser beams whilst wearing his dresses.
14. Fendi
Siri, play Vroom Vroom by Charli XCX.
15. Olivier Theyskens
Mandarin collar. Mandarin collar. Mandarin collar. NEXT TIME I WILL REMEMBER WHAT THE PROPER NAME IS INSTEAD OF NEEDING TO GOOGLE IT AGAIN. Come on brain, you’re supposed to be good at this kinda thing, make it happen.
16. Elie Saab
Blair Waldorf’s wet dream. Add in some platform boots and chain jewellery and now it’s my wet dream too.
Because Chuck Bass is creepy as FUCK and maybe it’s because I watched Gossip Girl at the ripe old age (lol) of 21 and most people watch it as teenagers but I don’t know why YOU WERE ALL SO OBSESSED WITH HIM! He tries to sexually assault Jenny who is about 14 in the VERY FIRST EPISODE. I think I went off on a tangent here but it had to be said. You girls have no taste.
Don Draper was an absolute dog, but he was played by Jon Hamm, and he might be one of the finest men on the planet. What’s your excuse, Chuck and Blair enthusiasts?
17. Miu Miu
As someone who has probably been/met many a spoilt brat in her time, I appoint Miu Miu as the official sponsor of the Spoilt Brat™ aesthetic and yeah, that’s something I just made up but I’m on the money here. Imagine one of those “daddy, can you get me a pony?” types all grown up. Are you telling me you don’t picture her in Miu Miu? Because that sounds like a lie.
18. YSL
The war flashbacks I get of the Friends episode where Ross tries to get out of those leather trousers aside (I know it’s PVC her not leather but they have the same sheen, you can’t deny it), these outfits turn me into the irl version of the heart eyes emoji. It’s not like I think this is the best collection I’ve ever seen, YSL could def push the boat out a bit in terms of experimentation, but there aren’t many people who wouldn’t look hot as fuck in one of these pieces
19. Balmain
I didn’t like ALL of it, but the looks that I did like were amongst the ones that stuck out to me most when I was reflecting on the collections I’ve reviewed: the breast plates and silk capes and the scorpion detailing are real chef’s kiss moments.
20. Marques Almeida
Miss the collection that gave us this coat off the list? Never.
SO!
That is the end! Wow! I started saving the photos for this review back in late January/early February or whenever it was that the first fashion week began and now it’s mid-fucking July!? I don’t know if that speaks more to my incompetency or what a state the last few months have been. I’m not gonna write a super long ending paragraph because you’ve heard enough from me already and it’s 2:30am and I’m being hassled by Trump supporters on Twitter (literally just for stating that it’s a privilege to be able to pursue a career you truly have a passion for rather than having to be practical about finances first) anddddd I’ve got a closing shift tomorrow so I should probably log the fuck off and remove my clown makeup before it’s time to start my shift, lol!
Quick recommendation before I wrap this up, there was a really interesting debate on ITV literally a few hours ago on the Stephen Lawrence case that I thought I would recommend (they also showed the 1999 dramatic portrayal of events afterwards) about racism in England and whether or not much has changed since the murder. I didn’t catch the whole thing but from what I did see, there were some really strong points being made and I think it could be a good thing to sit and watch with your family members if you want to get talking about the Black Lives Matter movement and aren’t sure how to broach the topic. I bring it up because I feel like most middle-aged white people trust ITV so they’re less likely to turn their noses up (lol, I wish I was joking) at it and maybe go in with a more open mind. I’d like to keep the conversation about social issues going so if there’s anything you’d like me to get some information together on and make a post about-I read yesterday that there’d been arrests of THE PEOPLE PROTESTING the way Breonna Taylor’s death has been handled. No, not the police officers responsible for her death, the people simply pointing out that those police officers have done wrong. It’s a ridiculous situation and just shows how deeply embedded a police officer’s supposed right to kill and to use force is in upholding the American status quo. I wish I could end the post on better news, but let’s hope that next time I post, there is some, and as always thank you for reading til the end if you did get this far! I really don’t have all that many followers on here but do et me know if there’s anything I can reblog or share to help.

A real-life fairytale - Shawn Mendes one shot
A/N: Here am I after so long hihihi hope you guys like it, soon I’ll be releasing some of my drafts (there are a lot) and yeah, that’s it. If you like please reblog and give the heart on the post ❤️
Summary: Y/n and Shawn are attending the same event and finally they get to know each other properly, even if to the children they are Ariel and Eric.
Word count: 1.919
Fame and charity were two things that they had in common at first.
Fame because Shawn was a singer and y/n an actress.
Charity because they both loved to give their money to help others.
And their good hearts are the reason why there are a lot of famous people walking around the orphanage that night. The two biggest donations coming from both of them.
Y/n smooths her green and purple dress taking a deep breath once the car stops in the entrance of the event. Some cameras ready to take the best or worsts shots from her first appearance after one whole week away. A week that she took to enjoy her family and close friends after a long time filming a new movie. Safe to say that the audience was crazy about the new piece.
Once her long hells click in the ground the flashes took place.
"y/n, is it true that you and Nick Robinson are going to end as a couple in the new movie?”
“How is your relationship with him off the cameras?”
“Turn around!”
She takes a deep breath once again, stopping at the red carpet and smiling to the sea of people trying to take some shots and details of her dress and makeup. No worries about how she was felling, only trying to sell the image.
“Are you excited to the fans reaction?”
“Here, y/n, look at here!!”
“Can you describe it with one word?!”
She waves, wanting to get out of the carpet like never before. Y/n only needed to see some of the children she was helping, hear their laughs and be put inside the bubble of peace and love that was so normal around people with a simple life.
And no, don’t get her wrong. Y/n loves who she is, the role she plays and the people she is able to meet, but with all the fame the things that seem so simple suddenly become so far out of reach. She only wishes they could see that underneath there’s an ordinary girl.
Her manager points to the bottom of the carpet where a reporter waited for her waving sympathetically. Y/n turned around to show better her dress just like everyone was expecting and then walked to the interview.
“Look who we got here!!!” Montana, a reporter that every once in a while used to interview y/n greeted her. “You look amazing tonight”
“Awe, thank you” a small and shy smile made the way to y/n’s lips.
“So, first things first. How are you feeling knowing that you were one of the biggest donations of the night?”
“Complete. Really, help others whenever you can is one of the things that renew your soul.”
“What about the performances of tonight?”
“I read that the Jonas Brothers are going to sing, that’s the only thing that matters for my old-Disney-addicted-heart.” she jokes and Montana lets a laugh scapes. "Also, I’m excited to watch Alessia Cara.”
“Now, going the movie scene, what should we expect for the new work that you’ve been working?”
“A lot. We finished this month and even knowing about everything I was emotional at the end.”
“So you guys heard, don’t forget to go to the movie theater with your tissue” the reporter turned to the cameraman winking to the audience.
The almost calm sea of photographers started to make noise again, catching the attention of Montana and y/n.
“Oh, prince charming just arrived”
“And by prince charming, she means Shawn Mendes” y/n explains to the camera giving it a thumb up and holding back a giggle.
“A real-life prince and I really mean it. Are you two friends?” Montana asks turning back to y/n.
“We never really talked, but he’s a great singer.”
“BBC news is uniting you two, the perfect scenario,” she speaks before calling out Shawn’s name.
“Hey, Montana” Shawn greets her with a big smile and does the same to y/n taking his time to appreciate her pretty face.
“We got here two of the biggest donations of the night. How are you feeling about today, Shawn?” She starts at the camera but turns to the singer at the end.
“I’m really glad I can help, that’s the perfect thing to do after ending a world tour, somehow relaxes the mind. I don’t know how to put into words, but yeah...that’s it”
“Now, going to the topic of friendship. Do you and y/n know each other?!”
“Unfortunately, we don’t” he is fast to answer and look at her with something you could tell as a shy smile. “I mean, I know her but she doesn’t know me” he jokes.
“What do you mean?” Montana gives him a curious look.
“I follow her, she doesn’t follow me”
“Wow, that’s cruel, Y/n!”
“What?! But I do follow him on Spotify” y/n arches her eyebrows.
“Y/n, you can’t flirt in the Spotify app, go follow him on Instagram!” Montana spills and suddenly y/n’s cheeks are getting a new color.
Shawn laughs clapping his hand surprised about the guts in Montana to throw them at each other in front of a live interview.
“Our time is off, now you two go take some pics together and if the flirt thing works don’t forget to thanks us!”
Y/n and Montana exchange kisses in each other cheeks and Shawn wave politely before looking at y/n. They both head to the middle of the red carpet again, this time side by side. Shawn holds her middle and she puts her hand in his chest looking for stability. Both smiling wide to the cameras and ignoring all the questions about a date.
“How are you feeling after filming that blast of a movie?” Shawn asks while they walking inside the event leaving all the mess behind.
“You saw the trailer?! I almost got an injury behind the scenes and the whole story...damn I knew everything but still, in the end, I was emotional as fuck.” She confesses. You could feel the true and the excitement in her voice. Shawn was fast to notice how pure was her love with the job.
“I saw it of course! Can’t wait to watch it in the movie theater. Thank god I’m home from tour and can get prepared to be the first in the room, so that way I can’t get spoilers.”
Y/n giggles.
“Oh, I was just going to tell you about the part when my ch...”
His eyes go wide and y/n stops herself to laugh with the scene.
“Chill out, rock star, not gonna spoil” she bumps into him.
“We should watch it together”
“Are you inviting me to a date that includes watching myself in the movie theater?”
He couldn’t tell if she was joking or about to say no to him, but once his cheeks started to burn y/n giggles.
“Hell yeah, I’m in, but I thought we were going to flirt on Instagram first” her innocent smile catches her lips and before Shawn could answer something properly his manager showed up.
“There you are, let’s go, you’re performing now”
“Go, rock star”
Two famous models that y/n didn’t remember the name was opening the event, telling about how important the donations were and how happy the children got once they knew that their foster house was going to get reformed and they were meeting their idols. Once the speech is over Shawn walks in the stage, there are colorful balloons everywhere and he just gots all of her attention, not because he was wearing a simple button up white shirt, but because he was captivating...and well...he was staring at her once in a while.
He sang two of three songs that got the kids and all the adults singing along and doing some dance moves before he ends up and call out the Jonas Brothers. They two danced some teenage years songs and even the new ones, and it was like that till the performances were over and the event take roll.
Shawn and y/n were sitting in the ground playing with two little toddlers and their caregiver that had a huge smile on her face, he could tell that she was probably a fan of y/n.
He was thinking about more things to talk with her once they get to be alone again, but a girl walking closer got his attention.
“Hey there” Shawn smiles encouraging her to keep walking since her steps were somehow able to tell how shy she was.
Once close enough she studies his face with wide eyes. Y/n got caught by the situation in front of her and watches.
“Oh my god, you are prince Eric, aren’t you?” she asks before another girl appears by her side.
“He got those things in the eyes, so it gots brown and we can’t discover that he is the real Eric.”
Shawn holds back a giggle realizing they talking about contact lenses.
“And she is Ariel! She’s Ariel, guys!!!” It’s time to a boy approaches pointing to y/n.
“How are you breathing outside the sea?” the first girl asks curiously.
“Lena, haven’t you watched the full movie?! She got the kiss from the prince and become human and stuff” this one appears to have probably seven or eight years.
Y/n and Shawn exchange glances with each other, almost silence talking about what to do. Should they pretend to be a Disney couple and keep the flame inside the kid's heart, or should they tell them the truth?!
The caregiver glances at the couple, holding one of the toddles and deciding that she could give them a lead of what would be good to the kids.
“Ariel” She called and y/n instinctively looked.
“SEE!!!!” One of the girls almost screamed. “She looked, she’s Ariel!”
The caregiver nods and y/n giggles deciding to get into the real-life fairy tale.
“Can I touch your hair?” the second girl asks approaching y/n with her hands stretched.
“Of course, come here” she calls and the girl gives her a big smile sitting by her side, ignoring all the toys and focusing her attention in y/n’s red hair. She had the new color because of the movie and somehow she thought it went good, not wanting to go back to the natural strands once it was finished.
Shawn notices that even her clothes were somehow remembering of the little mermaid. The green and purple dress just like the green tale of the little mermaid doll in one of the girl's hand.
“Prince Eric, can you take us to meet the castle?!”
“Yeah! A tea party with the other princesses. Call Belle and Adam, she’s my second favorite after Ariel and I don’t fear the beast anymore!!!”
Shawn laughs giving the children a nod.
That’s how their night at the foster house goes: pretending to be a Disney couple and nothing in the world could pay the glow in the kids’ eyes.
“So you’re a great actor too for what I could see this night” y/n starts while they wait for her driver in the back exit of the orphanage.
“You thought I was acting?! Well, I am pretty sure I’m your real-life prince, madam.”
She laughs at his cheese talk.
“I’ll see you around, Eric”
“I hope so, Ariel” he kisses her cheeks and closes the car door.
Later that night his cellphone buzzes informing new interactions on Instagram. Y/n had followed him and sent a DM.
“You know, like Montana said it is easier to flirt if I follow you back”
Requests are open here and this is my masterlist

The Princess Bride
It feels downright inconceivableI to devote only one chapter in a book about lessons gleaned from eighties movies to The Princess Bride. Why, just off the top of my head, while standing on my head, I can name five life lessons that this movie teaches you that you don’t learn anywhere else: 1. “Never go against a Sicilian when DEATH is on the line!” 2. “Love is the greatest thing—except for a nice mutton, lettuce, and toma- to sandwich when the mutton is nice and lean.” 3. “Life is pain. Anyone who says differently is selling something.” 4. Eventually, you learn not to mind the kissing parts. 5. And most important, “As you wish” = “I love you.” Such is the depth of wisdom in this film that in 2013, twenty-six years after its release, BuzzFeed devoted a listII to the lessons gleaned from it. A BuzzFeed list! Who needs the Oscars, Princess Bride, when you have that ultimate of mod- ern-day accolades? The Princess Bride is so adored that it’s probablyIII now a clichéd response on Internet dating websites: walks on the beach, an open fire, sunsets, and The Princess Bride. And yet, despite this, love for The Princess Bride is not seen as desperately hackneyed or cheesily safe. The Princess Bride is what you’d need a prospective love interest to cite as their favorite movie for the relationship to progress,IV it’s the one film that would make you rethink a lifelong friendship if you found out your best friend “just didn’t get it”—not that they would ever say that, because I honestly don’t know a single person of my generation who isn’t obsessed with this film.
And not just my generation: in As You Wish, a very enjoyable book about the making of The Princess Bride, Cary Elwes—who played Westley the farm boy, of course—recounts being told by both Pope John Paul II and Bill Clinton how much they loved the movie, proving that The Princess Bride appeals to saints and sinners alike.V Now, having said all that, I have a confession to make. I was not the big Princess Bride fan in my family when I was growing up. That title instead went to my sister, Nell. Our mother took us to see it at the movie theater when I must have been nine and Nell was seven, and even though the film was— incredibly—something of a commercial disappointment when it came out, the cinema was absolutely packed with kids like us. In my mind, everyone in the audience was utterly in thrall to this tale of Buttercup (Robin Wright), her true love Westley (Elwes), and their battles against Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon), Vizzini (Wallace Shawn), and Count Rugen (Christopher Guest), and their eventual assistance from the brave swordsman Inigo (Mandy Patinkin), the giant Fezzik (the professional wrestler known as André the Giant), and Miracle Max (Billy Crystal). Afterward, we stood in the cinema atrium as our mother bundled us back into our coats. “Did you girls like it?” she asked. Standing there in her corduroy dungarees and T-shirt, Nell looked in a state of semi-shock. “I LOVED IT. I WANT TO SEE IT AGAIN RIGHT NOW!” she practically shouted. Now, The Princess Bride is wonderful, but in order to understand how unex- pected this proclamation was, you have to know a little bit about my sister. Ever since she was old enough to throw a tantrum, my sister refused to wear dresses. She never played with dolls. She refused to let my mother brush her hair and had apparently no interest in her physical appearance. She did not like mushy stories—she didn’t even like reading books. In other words, she was the complete opposite to me. How much of that was a deliberate reaction against me, a younger sibling defining herself in opposition to the older one, and how much of it was simply an innate part of Nell was already a moot point when we went to see The Princess Bride: Nell’s parameters were so firmly set by then that her nickname in our family was “the tough customer.” She would consent to drink only one kind of fruit juice (apple), and buy only one brand (Red Cheek), and only if it came out of a can (never a carton), so there was absolutely no negotiating with her about mushy princesses. Lord only knows how my mother got her to see the movie in the first place. She must have hid- den the title from her. And yet, like the grandson in the film, Kevin Arnold,VI Nell found that, against all odds, she did enjoy the story, just as Kevin’s grandfather, Columbo,VII promises. I think Nell made my mother take her to see the film at the cinema at least three more times. As she wished. When it came out on VHS, we bought it immediately and it was understood that the videocassette was officially Nell’s, just as the videocassette for Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was officially mine. When she found out that the film had originally been a book by William Goldman, who also wrote the screenplay, she asked my amazed mother to buy that, too. Nell read it over and over until the pages fell out, so she stuck them back in and then read the book again. The Princess Bride was the book that taught her to like books, as much as the movie taught her to relax some of her other rules. She developed a lifelong crush on Westley and, not long after, she started wearing dresses, too. The reasons why Nell loved this film so much exemplify, I think, why it is universally adored in a way that, say, the vaguely similar and contemporary The Never-Ending Story is not. It’s a fairy tale for those who love fairy tales, but it’s also a self-aware spoof for those who don’t; it’s an adventure film for boys and—for once—girls, too, but without pandering to or excluding either; it’s got a plot for kids, dialogue for adults, and jokes for everyone; it’s a genre film and a satire of a genre film; it’s a very funny movie in which everybody is playing it straight; it’s smart and sweet and smart about its sweetness, but also sweet about its smarts. Unlike, say, Shrek, there are no jokes here for parents that go over the kids’ heads: all generations enjoy it on exactly the same level. It’s a movie that lets people who don’t like certain things like those things, while at the same time not betraying the original fans. But most of all, The Princess Bride is about one thing in particular: “The Princess Bride is a story about love,” says Cary Elwes. “So much happens in the movie—giants, fencing, kidnapping. But it’s really a film about love.” This might seem like a statement of the obvious, but it isn’t, actually. Yes, the film is ostensibly about the great true love between Buttercup and Westley, and their most perfect kiss that leaves all the other kisses in the world behind. Both Elwes and Wright were so astonishingly beautiful when they made the film that, watching them, it’s hard to believe any love ever existed on this plan- et other than theirs. And they, rather pleasingly, were quite taken with one an- other. In his book, Elwes talks at length about how “smitten” he was with Wright, and she says precisely the same about him: “I was absolutely smitten with Cary. So obviously that helped with our onscreen chemistry. . . . It doesn’t matter how many years go by, I will love Cary forever.” Disappointingly, however, Elwes insists that they remained just friends. “Everyone asks if there was more!” he says, sounding a little exasperated, apparently unable to see what everyone else can: namely, that it seems against the laws of nature for two such beautiful people not to have had sex at least once. The last scene that Elwes shot was of him and Wright kissing on horse- back, creating “the most perfect kiss” of all time against a sunset. Surely that was romantic. “Well, not really. Robin and I were friends by that point so we kept laughing, and [the director] Rob [Reiner] was going, ‘Touch her face, touch her face!’ ” He laughs. But Westley and Buttercup’s love is only a part of the film, and only one of several love stories in the film. There is also, for a start, the great love between Inigo and Fezzik. The scene in which a drunken and broken Inigo looks up into Fezzik’s face in the Thieves Forest and Fezzik says a simple, smiling hello is much more moving than the moment when Buttercup realizes the Dread Pirate Roberts is actually Westley (not least because she’s just pushed him down a hill). Even if Inigo does become the Dread Pirate Roberts at the end of the film, as Westley suggests he should, it is as impossible to imagine him going off without Fezzik as it is to imagine Buttercup and Westley being severed. This love between the two men is at the root of one of the film’s subtlest lessons. Bad guys teach audiences how to think of opponents in life, and this is especially true of bad guys in books and films aimed at kids. Because stories for kids tend to be relatively simple, villains in these films are almost invariably evil, and that’s all there is to be said about them. Cruella de Vil, Snow White’s stepmother, the witch in Rapunzel: WHAT a bunch of moody bitches. This is also certainly true of movies for children in the 1980s, from the frankly terri- fying Judge Doom (Christopher Lloyd) in Who Framed Roger Rabbit to the enjoyably evil Ursula in The Little Mermaid. It’s a pleasingly basic approach, and one that validates most kids’ (and adults’) view of the world: “I am good and anyone who thwarts me is wicked and there is no point in trying to think about things from their point of view because they have no inner life of their own beyond pure evil and a desire to impede me.” The Princess Bride, however, does something different. It’s easy to forget this once you’ve seen the movie and fallen in love with the characters but Inigo and Fezzik are, ostensibly, bad guys. When we first meet them in the movie, they knock our heroine, Buttercup, unconscious and kidnap her for Vizzini. We are also told they will kill her. Our princess! In the eyes of children, you can’t get much more evil than that. They are hired guns in the re- venge business, which is not a job for a good guy in any fairy tale. But Gold- man flips it around. We quickly see Inigo and, in particular, Fezzik being ex- tremely sweet with each other, doing their little rhymes together and trying to protect one another from Vizzini’s ire. Their love for one another shows us there is more to these villains than villainy. Goldman then ups the ante even further by having Inigo describe to the Man in Black how he has devoted his life to avenging the death of his father, thus giving him the kind of emotional backstory kids can definitely understand, as well as adding another mission to the movie. Soon after beating (but not killing) Inigo, the Man in Black fights with Fezzik, who we already know has a similarly sad past (“unemployed—IN GREENLAND”). Plenty of villains were once good before crossing to the dark side: Darth Vader, many of Batman’s nemeses, Voldemort. The point in those stories is that the difference between true evil and true greatness comes down to one wrong decision, one wrong turn, and there is no going back from that. But The Princess Bride does something more subtle: it suggests that good people some- times end up doing bad things, but are still good, have stories of their own, and are capable of love. Inigo and Fezzik both killed people in the past for Vizzini, but they’re all still good people. This is quite a message for kids (and adults) to take in: not everything is clear-cut when it comes to good and bad, even in fairy tales. In the original novel, William Goldman goes into much greater detail about Fezzik and Inigo’s friendship, and this is one of the reasons why I—in all hon- esty—pre-fer the book to the film.VIII But the film alludes to it enough in order for audiences to understand the real bond between the men, and partly this happens through the script and partly through the actors, especially one actor in particular. At one point, Arnold Schwarzenegger was considered for the role of Fezzik, but, thank heavens, he was already too expensive by the time the film finally started shooting. Where Schwarzenegger is all jarring rectangles and jut- ting jaw, André the Giant was all soft circles and goofy smiles. Where Schwarzenegger palpably punished himself to a superhuman extent to get the body he clearly wanted so badly, the man born André René Roussimoff suf- fered from gigantism due to acromegaly and had no choice about his size, just as Fezzik didn’t, much to the latter’s misery (“It’s not my fault being the big- gest and the strongest—I don’t even exercise”). It would be a patronizing cliché to say André was born to play Fezzik, but he was certainly more right for the role than Schwarzenegger. By the time he made The Princess Bride, André was seven feet, four inches and weighed more than 540 pounds. Easily the sweetest stories in Cary Elwes’s book come from the cast and crew’s memories of the wrestler, who died in 1993 at the age of forty-six, and this is not mere sentimentality. Quite a few of The Princess Bride’s cast have, sadly, since died, including Mel Smith, Peter Cook, and Peter Falk, but none of them prompts the same kind of fondness as that felt for André. “It’s safe to say that he was easily the most popular person on the movie,” Elwes writes. “Everyone just loved him.” Partly this is due to the extraordinary nature of the man. Robin Wright re- calls going out to a dinner with him where he ate “four or five entrees, three or four appetizers, a couple of baskets of bread, and then he’s like, I’m ready for seconds. And then desserts. I think he went through a case of wine and he wasn’t even tipsy.” But it was André’s innately gentle nature that made him so beloved. His “compassion and protective nature,” Elwes writes, helped Wallace Shawn over- come his almost paralyzing fear of heights when they were filming the climb up the Cliffs of Insanity. When Robin Wright felt chilly when filming outdoors, André would place one of his huge hands on top of Wright’s head. “She said it was like having a giant hot water bottle up there. It certainly did the trick; he didn’t even mess up her hair that much!” Elwes writes. When he died, William Goldman wrote his obituary in New York magazine. The last lines were as fol- lows: “André once said to Billy Crystal, ‘We do not live long, the big and the small.’ Alas.” Next, on a smaller level, is the love between Miracle Max (Crystal) and his aged wife, Valerie (Carol Kane). Initially they seem simply like a squabbling old couple, playing purely for broad comedy (and their scene is the broadest comedic one in the film). But it soon becomes clear that Valerie is needling Max only because she wants him to get back his confidence in his work after Prince Humperdinck destroyed it by sacking them, and her little cheer when her husband agrees to make a miracle for Inigo is really very touching. By the end of their scene, they’re working together, finishing one another’s sentences, holding each other arm in arm, and whispering little asides to one another. As a portrait of elderly marriage goes, this one is a pretty lovely one. Finally, there’s the great love story that frames the whole movie: the one be- tween the grandson/Kevin Arnold (Fred Savage) and the grandfather/Columbo (Peter Falk). In the beginning of the movie, the grandson is irritated by his cheek-pinching grandfather and can hardly believe that he has to stop playing his adorably primitive-looking computer baseball game to listen to grandfather read a book.IX As the film progresses, the relationship between the grandson and grandfather progresses almost like a traditional love story: the grandson slowly gets more interested, clutching his covers anxiously when Buttercup is almost eaten by the Shrieking Eels; then he gets angry, banging his bed with his fist when it seems like Westley has been killed; and finally, he comes around entirely and tells his grandfather to come back the next day to read the book again. “As you wish.” His grandfather smiles, and the film ends. “That wasn’t actu- ally in the script,” Elwes says. “They came up with him saying that on, I think, the last day, and it really captures the love between the grandfather and grand- son. You can also see the tenderness between Fred Savage and Peter Falk.”

...why do I now want to design a Pokemon based on this concept?
HOWEVER
I disagree with the choices.
(fair warning, I am somewhat obsessed with Eevee and also thought about this waaaaaaay too much)
SO here is how I think the baby bats (Robins and Batgirls because I love Batgirls I’m sorry) would fit as Eevees.
Dick would probably be Sylveon.
First of all, Imma get the obvious out of the way that it’s pretty and has the ability Cute Charm (Mad Love Body) that causes infatuation on physical contact. Like...yeah. There’s also that the shiny is blue like Nightwing! It’s also the most flamboyant and out there Eeveelution design (Discowing anyone?).
But the real reason I feel Sylveon fits Dick is because it initially evolved with Affection while knowing a Fairy move. The Fairy moves Eevee learns naturally are Charm (Spoiled Pout) and Baby Doll Eyes (Round Eyes), so...do with that what you will.
But the Affection stat is different than the Friendship stat that Espeon and Umbreon evolve with. To get an Espeon or Umbreon, you just have to be nice; keep it in your party and walk around with it, don’t let it faint, maybe give it special berries. Massages help too. But Sylveon specifically needs to be actively interacted with. You had to give it treats and actually pet it, give it physical affection, for it to evolve. And Dick is pretty much known for his physical affection and lifting people up when they’re down.
Also, unlike Friendship, with high Affection, a Pokemon can pull off amazing things like hanging onto its last hit point, evading attacks, and shaking off status conditions so its trainer doesn’t feel sad.
Sylveon also emanates a calming aura, and uses its ribbon-feelers to sense how others are feeling. It also uses them to hold hands with their trainers and I just--aaaaaaaa
Also Sylveons are Dragon slayers (and Dick slays...I’m sorry) and also supereffective against Dark and Fighting types! Dick is definitely a better combatant than most fighters, and it’s his job to stop evil and he does it while being a frickin sweetheart full of shitty puns and I love him so much.
Dick Grayson is a Sylveon.
Babs is Vaporeon. This one is the biggest stretch, I promise.
For one, they are beautiful, and actually often mistaken for mermaids!
There’s also that their molecular structure is close enough to water that they can practically disappear in it. Which is kinda like Oracle, I think. She can sit back, unseen while she patiently stalks her prey.
It also learns Haze (Black Mist) which can reset all stats on the field. I think Babs is pretty good at leveling the playing field, even when she seems at a disadvantage.
A bit weak, but give me a break here.
Cass is Espeon. She could be Umbreon (and it better matches her colors) but hear me out.
Again with the obvious, the precognition. The thing about Espeon, though, is part of its precognition isn’t psychic abilities. Its Dex entries state that its fine furs sense air currents which help it detect its opponents next moves, and also predict the weather. So it’s more of a sensory skill than, yknow, reading someones mind. It’s reading their body language!
Eevees become Espeon when they have high Friendship and level up during the day, and they’re said to have developed their psychic powers to better protect their beloved trainer and/or themselves. To me, that parallels Cass’ story. She grew up in the dark, isolated and abused. But then she fled and she found a family, people who would love her, and she grew into a determined hero to protect them and be a better person.
It’s also agile and elegant and pretty, like her.
On a more selfish note, Espeon is my favorite and so is Cass.
Jason is a Jolteon. I mean, I personally initially thought maybe Leafeon or Glaceon, but no. Jolteon.
Jolteon’s Pokedex notes one thing repeatedly and specifically about it’s nature: it’s emotionally sensitive. It is also, figuratively and literally, very prickly. Its spikes clump into needles that are electrically charge, and it can apparently shoot them at people. Very stabby.
Also it learns Double Kick, which...it’s the only Eevee to learn a kicking move and TELL ME the internet is not obsessed with Jason Todd’s thighs and I will call you a LIAR.
Also it learns Pin Missile, which is another multi-hit move. Hm, shooting projectiles...wonder why that sounds like Jay...
Oh, and because it learns Double Kick and Pin Missile, a Fighting and Bug move, it’s an effective mon to use against Dark types! The only other Eevee to learn moves supereffective to Dark types is Sylveon, which, that’s kinda it’s whole thing. Aside from slaying dragons.
Also, while not the most tech savvy of the Bats, he’s the only one with a whole-ass helmet instead of just the domino mask. Which is powered by electricity. And I’m pretty sure has tazers in it. I mean, we know it can explode so
Sparky boi
Stephanie is a Flareon because she’s hot.
I’m kidding. But really, that fluffy fur kinda reminds me of Steph’s hair...
Anywhozits, Flareon has the highest Physical Attack stat among the Eevees, and I think that translates pretty well with the fact that she was an active vigilante before being trained by Batman, so she relies more on her own strength.
Flareon is also lowkey feral, being one of two Eeveelutions to still learn Bite. It also learns Fire Fang. Chompy goil.
Also, its Hidden Ability, Guts, boosts its attack when inflicted with a status condition. Like, if it’s gonna be hindered, it’s gonna go down swinging. Which is a very Steph attitude I think.
Tim is a Glaceon.
There’s not much in Dex entries about Glaceon’s personality, but one thing I’m pretty sure is it’s lowkey feral. In the same way Flareon is, at least. It’s the only other Eeveelution to learn Bite, and it also learns Ice Fang. And if you don’t think Tim Drake is also lowkey feral, then are we talking about the same boy here? Timothy Jackson Drake? Because this boy is actually One Bad Day away from becoming an evil scientist. Like, no shit.
While Glaceon can now evolve with an Ice Stone, originally you had to take you Eevee to a certain place, a snowy area that had an Icy Rock, and level it up. Well, when Tim became Red Robin initially, he was leaving Gotham.
There’s also the cold comparison with isolation. Which Tim...tries not to do, but frequently ends up doing anyway.
Oh, and Glaceon, like Jolteon, is Prickly. It can freeze its hair into spikes. So, yeah!
(Also I initially thought Glaceon’s hat/hair thing was really dumb. Which fits Tim’s history of having really dumb costumes <3)
Duke is a Leafeon because light.
I mean, that’s not all, but that is a big reason. Leafeon get their power from the sun and love to sunbathe, and Duke’s powers allow him to manipulate light. And he’s also essentially the day shift Bat. So, daylight!
Also oddly it’s genetically closer to plants than animals, unlike the other Eevees. Kinda like how Duke is half...meta? Half something. Whatever Gnomon is.
Leafeon are also seemingly the most peaceful of the Eevees and actually generate clean air. However, if you threaten them or their friends, they make their tail literally sharper than most swords and they will cut you down. You do not fuck with a Leafeon.
Damian is an Umbreon. This is pretty easy to explain, I think.
Damian, when he first showed up, was a fucking brat. He was awful. But then Alfred and Dick got their affectionate claws into him and he slowly grew to be a better person and a better hero. And Umbreon evolves with high Friendship at night.
That said, he’s still very “I am the night” like his dad, so the one that evolves at night fits him better than the one that evolves during the daylight.
Damian grows because the people around him love and support him.
Its Hidden Ability is also Inner Focus (Strength of Will) which prevents flinching and that feels very Damian to me. (It’s also very Cass but shhh)
Its off-type moves that it learns all feel very Damian too. It learns Confuse Ray (Eerie Light) which causes confusion, Guard Swap (to pair with Espeon’s Power Swap) that trades its defensive stats with its opponents, Screech (Unpleasant Tone) which drastically lowers the opponents Defense, and Mean Look (Dark Look) which prevents the opponent from fleeing. Are you going to tell me that at least Mean Look does not scream (or Screech hehe) Damian?
Yeee I probs went too into this, but...hey, it was fun!

The Future of Winx?
I’ve got some screenshots from Winxforeveritalia about the future of Winx. Are they real? Maybe? Maybe not, they say some pretty big things about the future of our show which makes me less inclined to trust them… but this is Straffi, he’s a big dreamer!
Straffi says season ten is in production. But season nine hasn’t gotten further than a few pics! Maybe they’re just planning season ten? I’m sure the people at Rainbow would be stoked to hit ten seasons, but I hope they’ll wait and see if the 13-minute episode format is really a good idea before they go too far ahead.
I wonder what “Mermaid Magic” will be like. I wonder also if they’ll suddenly decide to make the mermaid show related to the Winx mermaids, I remember season three’s mermaids got some pretty big advertising, they even got dolls and their designs were really pretty. Will Rainbow decide to tie their new show to their flagship show?
There’s also another mention of the live action Winx film.
Straffi has a plan! (Cap’n’s got a plan!) He mentions season 2 of Fate but doesn’t mention a third season. Does that mean Fate has a planned ending that’ll tie up its plot threads? I’d really like that. I hope Fate gets better, but part of why I think Fate is bad is that it’s just pieces of everyone’s story.
Also season 9 is described as “a new TV series on the Winx” so yeah, it’s going to be a major reboot. And it looks like CG with a high budget. Hopefully that means it’ll be good CG not bad CG! And the date is 2024, not 2023 like we had before. But we can’t count on any date until the thing appears.
And it seems like Straffi has bigger plans! A spin-off about the Trix and a prequel spinoff about the history of witches and fairies. And that’s amazing. I don’t think they’ll ever get made, I just have this feeling like someone in marketing will decide to be on the safe side and have the Winx, their money making characters, in everything. But I’d love it if they managed to expand the universe beyond our six fairies.
I’d love to see more about Icy’s backstory, more about how she goes from a shy princess to a powerful evil witch, the backgrounds of Darcy and Stormy, and how things were at Cloud Tower in the time before Bloom got to Magix—but I don’t think they’ll do it, because a story where a character develops into a villain and gets defeated is kind of a downer and also only a partial story. Icy’s backstory doesn’t really have an end because it connects to Icy’s current story which has no end because Winx Club is a show that goes on and on. How could they spin that into a good story to watch? I want there to be a way!
Also Icy’s backstory is WEIRD. Because it’s Bloom’s backstory. Evil witch freezes home planet and transforms sister. Someone at Rainbow has to have noticed this, right? I wonder if Bloom will have a new backstory in the reboot. In season 8 her Domino family didn’t appear and the Dragonfire as the source of magic was replaced by the Sparx, making Bloom less like the avatar of a godlike being. I wonder if they’re going to reset Bloom as a fairy from earth without the whole lost princess thing.
And I’d really, really love to see the other spinoff. History! Details about what the difference between fairies and witches actually is! New characters to get to know! A bigger richer world for my fandom to enjoy! Marvelous! Come on Rainbow, make this happen! Create a new team! They can even be the ancestors of the Winx if you want, and the villains could be the Ancestral Witches tying this new story to the main story and adding an epic sweep to the events of the early seasons and Secret of the Lost Kingdom. This story could also be in the style of the original Winx, aimed at slightly older kids as the main show aims younger and younger and Fate is… Fate.
I think this spinoff is a little more likely to ever appear, since I can imagine the accountants at Rainbow seeing dollar signs at the idea of creating new characters who could be sold as dolls and maybe trying to catch a new fanbase with a new show.
But let’s get season nine in the bag first!

"Delicate" Music Video Analysis:
Here's what I saw and the connections I found. I was going to use pictures but there were too many. This list is in order so you could read it while watching, pausing in between notes. 😘😘
The first two seconds shows a black screen with lowercase letters spelling "delicate" and on the third second we see Taylor Swift's forlorn face close-up with bright lights shining on her and she slowly comes out of her depressed dream stare instantly with a smile when she sees the camera flashes and hears the crowd and reporter.
Next we see Taylor standing on the red carpet and the camera focuses in on someone handing her a folded note. The man who hands the note is the same height as Taylor wearing in heels. We see Taylor's face up close lit in a more soft and defused light and her eyes are looking in wonder and curiosity.
Taylor walks into the Millennium Biltmore Hotel (known for serving alcohol during prohibition in the Gold Room, being of great lgbt importance, as well as having a security guard to turn people away who were only trying to meet celebrities.)
Millennium Biltmore Hotel hosted a very gay-friendly bar through both World Wars and was the site of an early milestone in gay rights advancement. In 1971, the Biltmore hosted the International Psychologists & Psychiatrists conference, which was going to declare electroshock therapy as the “cure” for homosexuality. The meeting was disrupted by the Gay Liberation Front, which effectively forced one of the first dialogues between mental health professionals and the gay community. Within two years of that incident, “homosexuality” was removed as a mental disorder after decades of stigma and official misclassification.
We immediately see that the same people in the crowd outside are now inside waiting. On the right side there is a statue of a female angel with what looks like a mermaid tail.
We see Taylor walking through the lobby surrounded by four guards and we see that some of the people have taken out their phones to record her. As Taylor walks by one of the guards is motioning to blonde woman wearing a dress with stars all over.
We see her taking selfies with her younger fans (as shown with their lollipop t-shirt, baby doll length sequined dress, and a crinolin tutu) but as soon as she's grabbed by a guy they seem to only care about how their selfies were ruined. They aren't looking at Taylor or asking if she's OK but instead they seem only disappointed they were interrupted.
The man who attacked her and tried to push her down is dressed as a service professional; a bellboy.(There's an incredibly gay film called the "Bellboy" where a man named Jake discovers gay sex and an erotica lifestyle at the hotel he works at.
After this altercation we see Taylor look between her fans not caring about her wellbeing and to the bellboy being carried away. We see Taylor's upper lip curled in a display of disgust at her fans behavior.
One of her bodyguards is taking her away while looking forward and Taylor is looking up in resigned annoyance.
We see Taylor next walking in the middle of four men who appear to be security guards. We see that they each have a full beard or a goatee. There are four but reflected in the mirrors (mirrored door the mirror in the cabinet) there are 8 men and 2 Taylors.
Every step forward means a few steps backwards if Taylor decides it so and we see Taylor testing her ability to control them by moving this way and that while they do the same thing each time. Eventually we see Taylor sigh upwards in resignation again. Taylor also stops right in front of a large bouquet of white flowers including lilies.
We next see Taylor examining herself in a mirror at the Los Angeles Theater's ladies room. We are shown that she feels like a puppet with strings
(In Pinocchio we have Geppeto wish on a fallen star to have his puppet be real and come to life. The blue fairy helps him grant this wish and Pinocchio becomes real. Pinocchio ends up at a pleasure island after being lead astray by Honest John.
When Taylor gets "pulled" like a puppet into looking foolish it doesn't quickly go away as seen with the same expression no matter how she's moving her head.
Knocked out of her focus she sees three pretty women and coyly smiles - they weren't there to see her faces in the mirror she's relieved but doesn't realize yet that they can't see her. Even though she's alone and it's not a work thing she'd hope that they'd at least say hi.
After she sees the women is when she becomes invisible but she's in disbelief. She looks at the sparkling note but leaves it on the dressing room counter.
Taylor gets up and motions her arms in front of the women but they don't respond, they aren't seeing her so she exits the dressing room and appears back at the Millennium Baltimore Hotel carrying her shoes down to the lobby she flings them away.
Snapping her fingers and waving in front of the four guards she discovers that not even the four men can't see her and her motions get larger and more dramatic with less inhibition.
After seeing that the guys are more interested in looking forward and or talking intimately with each other, Taylor finally smiles.
Taylor realizes she's finally in charge of all of her actions and rips off the bottom of her dress so she can not be confined anymore (Dress vibes) and starts to dance but before she exits the area she makes sure to check left and right just one more time.
We see Taylor quickly move past two men and one women to dance between two women for "do the girls back home touch you like I do." During this dance between the two women Taylor shimmys and touches her body including her breasts. (In January 2017, protesters took to Mike Pence's neighborhood:
‘Queer Dance Party’ shakes and shimmies to send a message to Mike Pence “We want to send a strong message to Pence that we’re a united queer community,” Firas Nasr, an organizer, told the Washington Post. “We’ve always stood united. There’s always space to dance.”)
Then we see Taylor dancing more elaborately and she shows the camera her left hand with a ring on her ring finger.
she is reaching out to someone and her expression is showing loss and like that she's suddenly in another room. (I feel like this is a pattern symbolizing Taylor's tendency of running after she starts to have feelings.)
Taylor walks backwards and then we see her try to shake off her bad mood she sashays (chases) and pivots (changes directions) but she's in the same 3 feet of space.
(This is another pattern of Taylor being able to shake off her angry or sad emotions but being able to do that doesn't mean she's not feeling the negative emotions.)
As the song continues about her bad reputation Taylor is seen grabbing her head in distress, again she's showcasing her hurt feelings.
It should be noted that again we see the same people from the beginning scene.
Hopping up to be in ballet fifth position arms (without first in preparatory) we see her legs in passe/retire positions interchanging and then again (after frustration) we see Taylor happy again in front of an island themed mural.
Next she quickly bourrees (double-time) off screen.
As Taylor pops up on top of the check-in counter to march, the first thing seen is her knee (CIWYW gif from on the roof vibes) seemingly to her own beat and then she hops left and right. The front desk clerk seems to be checking-in a man with a closed duffel bag.(Getaway Car vibes)
Quickly she's seen hopping again side to side in front of a stone fountain when she shakes her fist at the bellboy who is seen being carried off by one of her security guards. The bellboy is seen shouting as the guard carries him off stage. It should be noted that he does not move his legs at all while he's yelling (CH Twitter rant symbolism?)
After the bellboy is off screen we see Taylor fouetté pivot into miming drinking tea with a saucer for a quick moment until again we see Taylor's emotions changing suddenly ("so happy then I turn back to sad" -Gorgeous) Taylor seems annoyed when a couple walks past and then holds her head with one hand and walks away grudgingly pushing against an invisible wall.
The invisible wall manifests into a real wall (wooden toy puppet into a real boy symbolism?) of the Millennium Biltmore ballroom and we see Taylor disoriented and giving into feeling sorry for herself for a beat. Falling against and sliding slightly down the dark mahogany paneling she pauses and then realizes that it's useless to just mope we see a resolute Taylor shrugging off the wall and pushing away to get back up and dance.
The next scene we see Taylor dancing with a Latin flare leading with her hips and heels as she playfully circles her arms and fingers around her body.
She's shown feeling free and smiling when suddenly she's tied down again with her arms behind her and her legs again in more reserved choreography and then she screams.
After she screams she looks like she's shocked that the confinement bothered her so much and her expression shows that she's not sure how she feels about any of it. Taylor runs forward off camera.
Next we see Taylor sprinting in the elevator lobby to leap into an open elevator where there is a woman Taylor thinks can see her.
We see Taylor smiling at a smiling woman and then realizing that the other woman is actually using the elevator mirror to apply her lipstick and doesn't actually see Taylor even though Taylor seems to be coming to terms with her emotions.
The next scene Taylor stays in the elevator and is genuinely sad and then she looks like she's made a decision to get out of the hotel and go somewhere, anywhere. (Running away again seems to be her MO)
We see Taylor at crossroads inside the 7th Street Metro center where she seems to switch between hip-hop and power-step dancing and then again loses the hold onto her distraction and holds her head but this time it's with both hands.
Next we see Taylor choosing a direction by instinct (with her eyes covered by her hands) we see Taylor enter an open Metro Rail car.
Taylor falls into the open rail car which considering her destination to 417 W 8th St Los Angeles, she shouldn't actually take the rail but the bus.
We see Taylor fall to her knees on the floor of the rail car and then as she's slowly rising we see her walk her fingers suggestively from her hips over her chest to her shoulder and then finally we see that she's pretending someone else is doing the touching. With one hand on her shoulder and her other covering the hand again in fantasy we see a satisfied smile.
When Taylor inhales/gasps quickly we see the rail line door close.
After Taylor mimed being physically satiated in the rail car she's shown in the next scene soaking wet in an alley hopping over obstacles. I feel like Taylor taking the rail line (which has a map of its lines in a dot of rainbow colors) and not the rail bus (which was the direct route to her final destination) shows that Taylor has had to go out of her way to get where she is now.
After hopping over the obstacles she has her feet in the air and then when she's past the obstruction signs she leaped over she gives herself a "well-done" bow.
Next we see Taylor playfully dancing with no regard to style, hand poses, or beat and she hops from the sidewalk to the street over puddles in front of graffiti writing out "Reputation" (with a capital letter) and she bows more deeply, showing her back, letting the camera focus on the phrase "Choose Your Pitstops." (Karlie has used 2x the word pitstop in her insta of the girls' road trip as well as the word pit 1x in the tweet she wrote defending Taylor saying she'd always have her back.)
We then see Taylor dancing a bit similar to the beginning of this adventure but this time including he her signature flamingo poses as she makes her way forward. We never see Taylor's expression change back to sad (Gorgeous) like we have for this entire music video.
She's seems ready to take on the world and follow through with her decisions. She dances now on top of the roof of a stopped car with its headlights on on, reaching for the stars. Next we see Taylor sliding down from the roof into the splits and seems to emphasize that Taylor still feels happy with this journey even though she's not as high up.
The next scene shows Taylor calmly walking into the Golden Gopher, a gay bar in Los Angeles that survived the prohibition and was once owned by former president, Teddy Roosevelt. (Taylor's a history nerd)
We see that Taylor has arrived inside the bar and is somehow holding the note again showing us that not every action of hers is on display even if recorded you will not know all the facts.(Making Of A Song)
Out of breath and slightly shivering Taylor stops focusing on the magical note and as soon as she does it changes to a regular piece of paper with no magic.(Dumbo vibes where Dumbo feels like he needs the feather in order to make it across the tightrope but he realizes that he doesn't; his strength and talent is within himself and has been all along.)
Now we see the patrons and bartender looking back at Taylor but they don't have their phones out and they aren't looking at her like she's something but someone; someone regular, in fact.
She seems to look around past the first four, the fourth patron seems to be blocking the fifth patron from Taylor's eyeline at first, she continues to search until she looks in recognition and smiles the genuine smile of knowing (Dress vibes "I know what you know") .
The final shot shows Taylor smiling with brightest of lights behind her with soft diffused light on her face as she looks forward. (Are we seeing her last big hurrah?)
And then the screen is black with "delicate" the only thing on display, just like the beginning. The beginning and ending also parallel with close-up shots of Taylor with three different expressions on her face.

wispy; do you like the place where you grew up? do you think you will live there when you get older?
Talking about a city, yes. I grew up in Tokyo and I still live here. But talking about a place, definitely not.
wobbly; have you ever wished upon a star?
Yes and the most cool thing is that… happened!

Hans Christian Andersen (1952)
Why is it that the “Hollywood ending” or the “fairytale ending” has become something to be chastised and not taken seriously? What is wrong with happily ever afters for audiences looking for an escape? Charles Vidor’s Hans Christian Andersen – which, in an opening intertitle, presents itself as “not the story of his life, but a fairytale about this great spinner of fairy tales” – is the sort of movie one expects to have said happily ever afters. Not so. A delightful musical from Samuel Goldwyn Productions and distributed by RKO, Hans Christian Andersen has a resolution that subverts (but does not reject) those expectations in ways very few fairytale films have ever attempted.
For powerful producer Samuel Goldwyn (1936′s Dodsworth, 1946′s The Best Years of Our Lives), Hans Christian Andersen was a fourteen-year undertaking that included several screenwriters submitting their scripts and no expenses spared. After accepting Moss Hart’s (1947′s Gentleman’s Agreement, 1954′s A Star Is Born) screenplay, Goldwyn greenlighted production on the film. Goldwyn became so endeared to this film that he could not be flustered by its clunky narrative and weaker musical segments. But regardless of its noticeable faults, the lavish Hans Christian Andersen is a fascinating film – demonstrating that fairytales can be compelling for children and adults.
We open in Odense in Denmark, where cobbler Hans Christian Andersen (Danny Kaye) passes the time creating and sharing stories with local children. Andersen’s storytelling is grating to the schoolmaster (John Brown), who pleads with local government officials to stop the cobbler from making the children tardy to school. Andersen implores to the officials that there is as much to learn outside the classroom as in it, and even the adults are stopping to listen to his tales. Andersen’s assistant is the teenaged orphan, Peter (Joseph Walsh), who persuades Andersen to travel to Copenhagen after secretly learning that the town leaders have voted to exile the cobbler. In Copenhagen, Andersen and Peter will stumble onto the Royal Danish Ballet and Andersen finds himself crushing on and intimidated by lead ballerina Doro (French international Zizi Jeanmarie, who by trade is a ballet dancer and not an actor). Doro asks Andersen – referring to him by occupation, not name – to fix her shoes. Andersen witnesses her husband, choreographer Niels (Farley Granger) cruelly criticize Doro, and Andersen believes that he is being abusive. Peter, watching what happens after his boss leaves, notices how loving Doro and Niels are to each other outside of rehearsal.
Andersen returns to his new Copenhagen storefront, not heeding Peter’s protestations that Doro and Niels are in love, and proceeds to write “The Little Mermaid” to tell Doro – in the only way he can – that Niels is the wrong man. Here, it is useful to remember that Hans Christian Andersen is intended to be a fairytale for Andersen himself, and that the film has some freedom to reinterpret his works and their central messages.
Before we talk about the passions found within, it is worthwhile to note that Hans Christian Andersen is a celebration of storytelling and what the art of creating stories and telling them to others can do. These tales bring healing to those suffering from their own anxieties; comfort to the hopeless; wisdom to confound even the wisest individuals. Andersen is the sort of character who, if he could, would spend his lifetime brightening the days of anyone who might take the time to listen. But life necessities and political pressure interfere – for Andersen and everyone else – and Denmark needs a decent cobbler.
Modern scholarship has uncovered that Andersen was incredibly shy about his feelings, largely closeted in his bisexuality, and that he tended to fall for women who did not return his ardor. Though this 1952 film does not reflect much of the real-life Andersen (for reasons of historiography and the Hays Code), it has a more complicated portrayal of what it means to fall in love and what love may seem to be than anyone might predict. Going into Copenhagen, we are unsure whether Andersen has felt and experienced love for another person. His social awkwardness when not telling stories probably suggests he knows little else outside the two main functions he performs. Watching Niels’ conduct to Doro, Andersen has been informed by the kindness imbued by his protagonists in his own stories, finding such behavior repugnant to the fictional love he has based his fairytales in. The film insists that Doro and Niels’ professional hostility to each other does not extend to their private romantic lives – an argument that is not well-supported by Hart’s screenplay. The differences between the public and private aspects of their relationship are unbelievably night and day, and it is too difficult to imagine how Doro tolerates how she is being treated. I stop short of calling Hans Christian Andersen as abuse-enabling, but the messages are too mixed.
Andersen’s conduct, too, knowing so little about Doro outside of fixing her shoes, could be better developed. Are his actions crossing the line in invading a couple’s privacy? Are they borne from actual love (which would require, above all, commitment and an effort to understand the other person in a way Andersen does not display)? What is apparent is that Andersen’s idealism towards love is childlike – as opposed to childish – and he does not listen to criticism or advice that contradicts that. When, late in the film, Doro finally understands what Andersen’s feelings for him are, she is taken aback and unable to respond. For too long she has taken the cobbler for granted, not believing that they are anything more than ballerina and cobbler who fixes her shoes. It leaves the conclusion, as frustrating as the romantic writing has been, with more pathos than the viewer might think possible.
Hans Christian Andersen is foremost a Danny Kaye piece, partly thanks to how Goldwyn and Vidor handled this production. Kaye’s on-screen partnership with the film’s many child actors is delightful to watch. He successfully embodies Andersen’s optimism and sense of wonder – where other adults might trudge their way to places they need to go, one can imagine Kaye’s Andersen being distracted by animals or flowers, not arriving where he needs to be until many minutes or hours after the fact. Kaye’s graciousness in his performance did not extend to how he treated his two adult co-stars. Irritated with Jeanmarie’s troubles understanding director Vidor (Vidor had a heavy Hungarian accent) and Granger for whatever he did, it does not help either of those two performances. Kaye also had a short temper with the film’s technicians and makeup artists – mystifying those on set, as Kaye never had any history of mistreating people during film shoots before or after Hans Christian Andersen. Jeanmarie’s lack of acting pedigree harms her supposed romantic connection with Granger’s character and more emotional scenes with Kaye. Granger’s lackadaisical performance – a year after starring in Alfred Hitchcock’s Strangers on a Train – is a critical letdown, robbing Hans Christian Andersen of romantic tension.
Samuel Goldwyn pursued Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II (R&H had already completed Oklahoma!, Carousel, and The King and I) to write the musical score for Hans Christian Andersen, but instead settled for Frank Loesser (who composed the stage musicals Guys and Dolls and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying) as composer and Walter Scharf (1968′s Funny Girl, 1971′s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory) as musical director. No one song is a spectacular standout but, together, Loesser’s score is a solid effort with a few numbers that will lodge themselves – your tolerance may vary, depending on how you feel about Danny Kaye before this movie – in your head. The film’s second song, “The Inchworm” (which isn’t exactly an earworm) is an ambitious example of counterpoint – when two or more musical voices that are melodically and rhythmically distinct but come together to harmonize – that displays who Andersen is as a person. It contrasts the robotic learning occurring in the classroom nearby with his daydreaming curiosity. Soon after leaving for Copenhagen is the film’s actual earworm, “I’m Hans Christian Andersen”. Like “Chim Chim Cher-ee” from Mary Poppins (1964), “I’m Hans Christian Andersen” has verses spread across the film, fitting to whatever the situation is at that moment. Yes, this means Hans Christian Andersen has many instances where he is singing his own name. You would think the people of Odense and Copenhagen would have no need for this song by a certain point!
youtube
"Wonderful Copenhagen” works as a memorable traveling song, maybe a Hollywoodized sea shanty, as it is one of the most repeated songs in the instrumental score. From the film’s songs, “Thumbelina” would be nominated for an Academy Award. And though I retrospectively disagree with that nomination, it is a charming, inventive ditty that shows Andersen always retains his compassion even at a desperate time. “The Ugly Duckling” is a simple musical retelling of the eponymous fable and is quite meaningful when taken in context.
But the film’s greatest musical achievement has to be the extended, climactic ballet sequence – presented like a borderless fantasy rather than depicting any divide between stage, orchestra, and audience. Combined with the cinematography by Harry Stradling (1938′s Pygmalion); production design by Howard Bristol (1940′s Rebecca), Antoni Clave (1961′s Black Tights), and Richard Day (1941′s How Green Was My Valley); and costume design by Clave (for the ballet sequence only; Mary Wills did the costume design for everything else, and she too should deserve acclaim), the ballet is a stupendous feat of visual creativity following in the footsteps of two breakout movies that started this trend in Hollywood musicals – 1948′s The Red Shoes and 1951′s An American in Paris. Yes, Niels takes Andersen’s idea to adapt it for the ballet stage while failing to understand Andersen’s true intentions behind the work. With the music based on five pieces by Franz Liszt and adapted by Heinz Roemheld (1942′s Yankee Doodle Dandy, 1945′s Wonder Man), it is a cinematic splendor that surprisingly is not from a better movie.
Before the film’s release, rumors in Denmark had many believing that Hans Christian Andersen would be an unfair depiction of their national hero. To stem the growing unrest, Goldwyn sent Kaye on a goodwill pre-release tour to Denmark. From the moment Kaye arrived at the airport in Copenhagen and made his way to lay flowers at Andersen’s statue, he was followed by thousands of his fans. At the statue he joked, “I came here to see if you would murder me.” Kaye would be killed with Danish kindness, accomplishing what he set out to do. The film became a critical and financial success in Denmark, across Europe, and in the United States – where it became the eighth-highest grossing movie of the year. After years of struggling to produce the film, Goldwyn was relieved the film was well-received.
Hans Christian Andersen would be the final film he made with Samuel Goldwyn – the executive who made him a movie star after distributing Wonder Man. No longer contracted to Goldwyn, Kaye’s career existed outside the Hollywood Studio System as he freelanced for the major studios and could exercise whatever creative authority he wished. Hans Christian Andersen can be difficult to watch because of its scattered plot and underwritten motivations for its central characters. Yet, in this fairytale of a fairytale spinner, it also pushes forward a complex take on love that few other films of this genre attempt – imbuing with musicianship and artistry as worthy as anything found in 1950s Hollywood. Though his faults are there for us to see, Hans Christian Andersen lives a good, honest life. With all the uncertainty and pain he goes through in the course of this story, he is never embittered, always hopeful.
My rating: 7.5/10

The new clothes do not fit quite right, but you can wear them and they’re better than the ragged clothes you’d been wearing for a week. You now have 2 different outfits, you can wash clothes, alternate. It makes you feel better kept, less messy. You can’t thank your silent helper enough, strange as it is, and strange as the thought that merpeople are real is. You might not have truly seen them, might have only seen flashes, but that was enough to confirm it for you. That tail could belong to nought but a merperson.
You’d been organising your little camp just a bit more, planning really. Thinking about making some sort of shelter in case a storm blew in. Rain while obviously not frequent was still something that would happen and being stuck in a storm wasn’t your idea of fun. Not that you really knew how to make a shelter, wood, some rope maybe? Those vines in the forest could work? You had absolutely no idea.
“Hello” When a sudden voice came from behind you, male and friendly, but so sudden that you let out a tiny scream and physically jumped from the fright. You’d been alone, for so long, well, alone without anyone to speak with, but not quite alone, that it scared you.
You turned around to see him, or at least by human standards he was a him, sitting? Lounging on the rock. His tail was just as you remember it silvery blue, almost pearlescent, with finds like chiffon. It looked delicate and yet you were sure it was strong enough to hurt. He was what you would probably say was tall if he were human, long brown hair at his shoulders, wet from the water, with the starting of a beard across an impressive jawline. Blue eyes that reminded you of the waters around you and tanned skin from the sun. His left arm is no longer there, amputated? Or taken? You’re not sure. He was a handsome man? Merman…and this was your helper…
You stared at him for a few moments, jaw dropped, blinking almost to check that this wasn’t some sort of hallucination. “You’re real.”
“Of course I’m real, who else was feeding you?” It was one thing to imagine that he was real, to think you’ve seen things, to rationalise the fish that were left. It was another thing entirely to see him sat before you, to see a merman in full glory.
“I’ve managed….”
You’re a little offended at the suggestion that you need help, after all you’d made your fishing spear, you’d caught your own fish, you’d found fruit and root vegetables and water. You’d managed. But in those early days having a helping hand was certainly a godsend.
“I noticed, you humans have always been resourceful. I suppose you don’t need me anymore, doll.” He made to turn as if to go back into the ocean and you stepped forward quickly, terrified you were going to be left alone again on this blasted island.
“No! Please don’t go!” You watched him stop and turn to smirk at you realising that he had been teasing all along. It was a strange concept that the creatures from your fairy tales could tease and joke…but it was a welcome interaction.
“Why were you left here, little doll?” His head tilts in a way that says he’s curious, not threatening, not demeaning, just curious. And you’re curious too, curious about this name he’s taken to giving you, something that sounds so human from someone that isn’t. You are unsure about it. Names like that aren’t given lightly where you’re from they’re either demeaning, enticing, or from someone close to you. This somehow has a different sort of innocence to it.
“Doll?”
“You remind me of those china dolls your people make.” It was strange to think that he knew so much about humans and the things you made, but then you supposed a lot of those things ended up in the ocean when merchant ships were sunk in storms or by pirates. It wasn’t such a strange concept that he would come across such a thing.
“Creepy? Strange?” You remember always seeing those dolls in shop windows, too expensive for you to afford. They had always seemed strange to you, too real and yet not real enough. Glass eyes staring at you blankly. You’d never liked them.
“Sweet, cute. You humans are so delicate and yet you adapt, you are strong and delicate and it’s like a doll.” You can’t say you agree with his belief that dolls are cute, but nonetheless you feel yourself getting flustered at the compliment. You supposed that if you could find him handsome then the same could happen on his end towards you.
“What do people call you?” You ask, you can’t keep thinking of him as the merman or the helper. He has a name surely.
“Bucky.” It isn’t what you imagined a merperson would be called, but then you knew no real truths about them. Other than that they could indeed be beautiful, that they had beautiful tails and that maybe some of them were quite helpful.
“Bucky, my name is Y/N…” You’re not sure he’ll use it. He seems to like the moniker of doll for you instead, but it’s only polite to return a name with another name.
You take more steps towards him and he seems to encourage it smiling at you brighter each step until you’re in front of the rock so close that you could touch him if you wanted to. Up close he was even more beautiful, you could understand the stories of mermaids luring men to the ocean, such beauty was likely to draw you anywhere if you didn’t think properly.
“May I?” You reach a hand forward, you want to touch, to confirm this is real, solid…but your curiosity is also begging to be sated.
He nods his head with a smile and you carefully reach forward. The scales are warm beneath your hand, so incredibly warm, just like your own legs would be. There was strong muscle beneath the scales that shifted under your touch. They were smooth, like polished stone, and their colour shifted with the light. It was absolutely beautiful.
You jumped at the sensation of a finger poking at your cheek and you looked over to see him staring at you curiously. “I’ve only ever seen humans from afar…you’re soft.”
“You are too, here.” You point to his chest, although in truth he isn’t that soft. He is the same skin and muscle that you are made from, very much human, but obviously a lot stronger. Tougher and he smiles at you in a way that says ‘oh, my dear’, as if you were naïve enough to belief that he was truly soft.
The finger poking your cheek becomes a hand that trails over your skin curiously, pushing at soft flesh and prodding at times in places that make you giggle from the ticklish sensation. “Merpeople as you call us, we are much more…resilient. You get ill, you get hurt, we….are tougher. Stronger.” You don’t doubt that, you don’t doubt that even without legs and missing an arm he could hurt you badly simply without a thought. There’s something dangerous about him, but it’s a danger that makes you feel safe. You trust him. You trust that he wants to help you, that he’s curious and not dangerous to you at least.
It is strange having someone touch you, having someone this close. You’re unused to this. In your society things are more restricted, touch is for close friends, family, partners. Closeness is not for strangers, but you supposed that you weren’t in your society anymore. You could do anything you wanted. It was lawless and rule-less and so strange.
The hand finds its way into your hair, where it quickly becomes stuck. Your hair is knotted and matted from days without maintenance and care. It’s horrible and you hate it. It’s a source of embarrassment as Bucky stares at it between his fingers before pulling back and shifting his hand to a small bag at his side. It is made of some sort of netting and you watch as he pulls out a comb, bone by the looks of it and old.
“May I?” He throws the words back at you with a grin and you wonder if all merpeople are this cheeky or if it’s just a trait that he’s developed.
You nod and turn to make it easier for him to reach your hair. It hurts, the knots are large and it is slow going, each step of the way he apologises for the pain and works. Each section slowly being untangled. It’s strangely intimate but you rationalise that you need someone to help because your hair is so knotted you’d fail to do it on your own. You tell yourself that this is acceptable even though your 18th century sensibilities tell you that it’s not.
“Are you alone?” You ask as he works on another section of hair, you’re alone, but maybe he isn’t. Surely, merpeople have their own cities or communities, families. He seemed very social so it would only make sense that the rest of his species were as well. But it seemed better to ask and assume and you were curious about him.
“Alone? I’m with you.”
“I mean…do you have a community?” A family, a group of people to look after you. You had a family once, a community…now you have nothing. Now you don’t even have a city to live in, just an empty island.
“Ah, like those human towns? No. I did and then…they didn’t want me after I lost my arm.” You don’t understand. You don’t understand why they’d get rid of him simply for something like losing an arm. He seemed to be doing well, didn’t seem hindered by it nor a problem because of it and even if he was…human communities seemed far more forgiving, people looked after each other, after family regardless of their ability.
“Why?”
“They thought I was a liability, my friends tried to fight for me to stay, but…elders always get the final say.” He think back to Steve, to Natasha, to all his friends who had fought for him to stay and failed. It was alright, he was alright on his own…it was just lonely sometimes.
“They just kicked you out? But you...that’s not fair!” He had helped you survive and was still here himself, it seemed completely bizarre to you that they’d get rid of someone at all, let alone think he was a liability. But you didn’t understand it and maybe that was a cultural difference between you.
“It’s alright, doll. I’m fine on my own…and now I have you.” He finished the final section of hair, the last knot coming free. It was a relief, your hair felt better, freer and you just felt better for it.
“That means you’re not leaving me alone?” You turn back to face him. You hope he stays, it’s so lovely having someone to talk to again, having a person, a real person, tail or not, in front of you. It doesn’t help that he’s nice to look at and feeds you.
“I think we both need the interaction.”

tale as old as time
what is your first memory of a happy ever after? mine was through a disney movie when the princess usually gets that “true love’s kiss” in the spiral ending scene. my favorite princess in my toddler years was aurora from the sleeping beauty but later on it became ariel from the little mermaid. it’s still her up to now because of my forever fascination of mermaids and their carefree life under the sea.
the photo was taken by me on may 2009 in hong kong disneyland. i was thirteen that time, still a kid —until now. i was so excited for that trip because i would always hear people say that disneyland is the happiest place on earth. is it really? well, that’s for me to find out.
that most awaited trip came and during the day, we had fun with the rides. i mean, my sister and cousin mostly had fun because i am scared of rides! i have always been since i was very little and i avoided them each single time. i only remember enjoying the mad tea cup party in my disneyland ride-venture. it was a spinning ride inspired by alice in wonderland and you sit inside those life-size tea cups that spin you around. the faster, the better. upon entrance, a very tall alice greeted me and asked in her posh british accent, “would you like a cup of tea?”, as she batted her lashes around her blue doll-like eyes. she’s beautiful. i only nodded as my response because i’m not quite sure if i like tea under the blazing hong kong morning sun. she proceeded anyway in demonstrating how to properly drink a tea with her teacup. index finger and thumb holding the handle and pinky up! sip gracefully. then we’re allowed to go inside wonderland. that ride made me happy-dizzy and i laughed really loud because i was really happy. maybe it’s true that disneyland is the happiest place on earth and it’s only morning. i miss being that kind of happy. the one where you just enjoy in the time being and laugh genuinely with squinted eyes, open mouth, and stomach almost aching from endless bursts of laughter. oh, to be a kid and the many shades of joy it brings!
the whole day was spent walking around, rummaging souvenir shops, snacking once in a while, and stumbling to real-life versions of disney characters that i have only seen in books and televison screens. the tale about this place is indeed true. disneyland is really the happiest place on earth! i kept repeating that in my mind. my ice cream melted under the may summer air and also partly because i could not decide which character should i approach first because they were literally everywhere. on my left, right, infront, and behind. they were dancing, singing, greeting people, and taking pictures with them.
then the disney parade started at 4pm sharp. i saw ariel, my favorite ariel! i could not believe my eyes. she was there on the float with flounder and sebastian and they were surrounded by bubbles just like in the “under the sea” scene. then there’s belle, a true bella, clad in her classic yellow gown. she’s really captivating. no wonder that the beast fell in love with her. cinderella was there, too, waving perfectly in her white satin gloves like she did on her wedding day with prince eric. gus and jack were beside her and human-sized, too! disneyland is really full of wonders! and a whole lot of magic. aurora was of course part of the group and demure as ever in her well-fitted pink gown. her iconic golden locks cascaded until her waist and moved with her every twist and turn. a regal blonde beauty. how flawless are these ladies? at this age now, i have discovered that aside from being naturally good-looking, their hair and makeup probably took hours to be done and their greetings, rehearsed. scratch that though because at that time, i was living my fairytale and i’d like to believe that they really came out straight from my storybooks.
during the parade, i noticed that most performers were filipinos and it was a proud moment. i was dazed in the sidelines because i am registering every single happening in my brain. then a filipino performer pointed at me and smiled, as if bringing me back to reality and mentally saying, “yes, this is real. this is magic. live in the moment, kid.” so i blinked few times and smiled back at him. my tito, who was beside me and saw what happened, laughed with me and we watched the parade again. it was a long one and people clicked and flashed their cameras to capture the wonderful sight in front of us.
then night came. this is my favorite part of my disneyland adventure that each time i hear “disneyland”, this specific scene automatically plays in my mind. i don’t know if that happens to you too but here is the story behind the photo. the fireworks show was the finale of all shows and was held at sleeping beauty’s castle. everyone sat in front of it like little children in a film viewing class patiently waiting for the movie to start. soon enough, the lights dimmed and people started squealing in excitement. i squealed, too! the possible scenarios of what could happen before my eyes were endless. what if they had a magic carpet ride scene here and aladdin and jasmine suddenly popped out?! i pictured out internally. but no dear, that’s too much imagination. my so-called adult self rebutted my little girl thoughts again. but secretly, i still hoped there was a magic carpet ride until now. “a dream is a wish your heart makes” from cinderella started playing under the starry night and iconic disney scenes were projected on the castle walls. remember those school lectures where teachers used screen projectors? it’s kinda the same with that but this time, on the brick walls. then i remember vividly, it was the magic carpet ride scene when the fireworks suddenly popped out in the dark blue sky! they were in groups of oranges, reds, golds, purples and greens. i ducked for a second because they seemed too close to me. then i relaxed again as the fireworks continued in what felt like forever because they didn’t stop for the entirety of almost twenty minutes. that is all while “a whole new world” in cello was playing followed by other classic disney tunes. wow, i am really in a whole new world — unbelievable sights, indescribable feeling. this is one of the few moments that take your breath away. inknew that at thirteen and inalmost cried. well, i think i really did to be honest. and for some minutes in that fireworks show, i just took everything in — beauty, magic, wonder. everything was real and as i type this, i can’t help but shed a tear or two as i relive that experience.
so everytime i hear of disneyland, that fireworks finale show comes flashing back in my mind. i also remember being grateful because i thought of street children who were not able to get the chance that i had to see their favorite cartoon characters in real life. i knew i was living the dream of thousands of kids while i was stepping on the grounds of disneyland and maybe that’s the reason why i teared up during the fireworks show. i always thought that all children must enjoy every bit of their childhood for it only comes once. moreover, believe also in some kind of magic in this world because in that way, their hearts will never be hardened. i thank god so much because i got to experience that magic — like how cinderella’s fairy godmother chanted “bibbidi-bobbidi-boo!” and poof! there emerged cinderella in her best gown and glass slippers with glitters and sparkles all set to have the time of her life. i, too, had the time of my childhood life at disneyland. the little dreamer in me witnessed how tales as old as time, written in my storybooks with all of its characters inside, magically turned into a dream come true.

Prelude ~ Dollie pt. 2
About a week had passed and Tanner was getting used going over the Henderson house five days out of the week to look after Nanet. That first day had not been a fluke. Nanet was an unusually calm child with a preference for her own company and in almost impeccable sense of time for someone he was sure could not read a clock yet. A few times she had reminded him that it was time to feed her, always before his alarm went off. Tanner got over her creepiness as something that was just a part of Nanet. Some kids were just different.
Nanet only spoke when she felt it was necessary to do so and never in misspoken words. Tanner suspected that was her mother’s doing who seemed to be a very fussy woman but it looked like it was doing little Nanet some good so Tanner let it go as he did a lot of things he saw around the Henderson house. What did worry Tanner were the nightmares that started plaguing him since he had started babysitting Nanet. Always the same thing. Little Nanet telling him that he shouldn’t have gone back and doing something horrifying. He remembered a snippet of his last nightmare as he watched her eat.
Tanner had gotten enough time to look at her mouth, which had been full of razor sharp teeth before she bit into this neck. He paid attention to her mouth now and saw that they were perfectly small baby teeth. He was being stupid. He was probably being nervous because of something to do with tutoring. Tanner never knew why he couldn’t go to the local school. His parents told him it was because Home Schooled children were proven to have a better education overall but Tanner couldn’t feel it. He put the feeling in the back of his mind as he went back to his book. History this time though he normally brought English to the table because it was easier to put only half his attention on the book and the other half on Nanet. Tanner had found out that she didn’t like to be left in her high chair too long the hard way.
Nanet threw her first and only tantrum around him over it. The toddler finished her meal and Tanner let her out then got ready to clean up. “Read!” Nanet cried as she looked up at him over her bear. “Read?” He asked while wiping down the small table portion of the high chair. Nanet wandered away and Tanner shrugged. He grabbed his history book then went back to living room to make himself comfortable before starting to take notes again when he saw the small dark-haired toddler in front of him. Under the arm that didn’t have her bear in it was a book that looked rather thick compared to Nanet’s tiny frame.
“Read.” She said putting the book on his lap.
“You want a story. Let me see what we have here.” Tanner said as he looked over the cover of the book. On the cover, in gold lettering, it said Grimm’s Fairy Tales. “You’re parents are hardcore.” He said in awe. Tanner had been forced to find copies of this on the internet and read them when his parents were not home. It was regrettable to the teenaged boy but his parents had been very Disney with him while he had been growing up. “Which story would you like?” He asked the small girl who had climbed up on the couch and scooted next to him.
“Cinderella,” Nanet said without hesitation. Tanner had a feeling he would be telling that one to her more than just today from the way she said it. He wondered for maybe the thousandth time why the family didn’t just have a tv. He could pop in the movie and be done with it. But then he was sure that not a lot of people would have seen a version of Cinderella where the evil stepsisters cut off bits of their feet to fit the slipper. That was the version of the book he had been handed.
Tanner would pause to look down at Nanet who would just look up at him. Those ruby eyes would press him to keep going. When he was done he waited for Nanet to wonder way but she stayed by his side and pointed to the book. “Little Mermaid.” She said.
Tanner sighed but couldn’t really deny her so he found the page where the story was then started to read to her again. The tale wasn’t needlessly gruesome other than the depiction of Ariel being forced to talk on feet that felt as if glass was being pressed into them then turning into sea foam. He had been captivated by the story, so much so that he had lost himself in reading out loud, making him lose track of everything. When he looked up it was already ten minutes past Nanet’s snack time. Tanner frowned. Even if he had been that focused he would have heard his phone alarm going off. He looked to the side and the little girl was nowhere to be seen.
That would have been if he hadn’t left his phone in the kitchen after he had cleaned up lunch. He could never get his phone’s volume to get any higher and he depended on that alarm even to wake him up. He went into the kitchen, found his phone which he stuck in his pocket then turned to the freezer to get Nanet’s afternoon popsicle. He found that there were none there. That was strange. He was sure that Mrs. Henderson would always have those strange brownish red tubes in the freezer seeing as they were the only things that Nanet would eat.
Tanner had tried to be the cool babysitter once and had tried to slip a “blueberry” popsicle to Nanet once. She refused it outright and kept pointing to the freezer until he complied to give her the one she usually got. He remembered what Mrs. Henderson had said at one point. If there were none where they normally where then he could find them in the freezer downstairs. Tanner wasn’t afraid of the dark but he had always felt antsy about the prospect of going into the basement. He steeled his nerves though and made his way to the basement door.
It was as pitch black as he expected when he got the top of the stares and of course, the pull for the light would be at the bottom. Tanner took out his phone to have at least some light then started to make his way down. At the final step, he felt something grab his ankle, forcing him to fall on his face. He heard a familiar giggle along with the sound of tiny footsteps going up the stairs. “Nanet you little shit.” he thought to himself as he got up and dusted himself off. He wondered if this what Mrs. Henderson meant when she said that Nanet got testy when she didn’t have snack on time. He found the lights then looked around. There were hooks coming from the ceiling but Tanner couldn’t fathom what they were for. He found that the more he walked among them the stronger the smell of copper seemed to become.
Tanner just wanted to find the fridge, get the treat then move along. This place was starting to creep him out. He patted his pocket for his phone when he realized that he had lost it when he tripped. Great that was another thing that he had to find before he could leave the relative darkness of the basement. As he looked around his surroundings were starting to register with him. He saw not power tools like one would expect in a basement like this but medical grade instruments. Was this Mrs. Henderson’s workshop? If so it was rather poorly lit for a laboratory. It was when he found his phone under what looked like a body in a bag that he knew he needed to leave.
Whoever these people were they were not normal and he needed t get home as soon as possible. It was then the fact that he was being watched registered. He looked back and saw little Nanet looking at him over the top of her teddy bear. The two sets of blood red eyes boring on him were enough to make him scream and run. Giggling could be heard from behind him as he made his way upstairs. He would call Mrs. Henderson and tell her that he quit when he got home but right now he needed to get as far away as possible. Poor boy didn’t even make it to the bottom of the stairs when he felt fangs sink into his throat.
He turned back to see Nanet standing there her lips stained red and tiny fangs poking out over her lips. Tanner’s panic didn’t allow him to see the older man placing a needle in the undamaged side of his throat. Tanner blacked out in a matter of seconds.
“Yucky daddy.” Nanet said seeing the needle.
“I know baby but he can’t be awake now,” Arthur said as he picked up the boy and took him upstairs. “We’ve talked to you about playing with your food have we not?” He said shaking his head.
“Dollie!” Nanet cried following them.
“Yes, my sweetheart. Your very first blood doll. We could have done this more gracefully but your mother and I are proud nonetheless.” Arthur said patting the little girl’s head after setting Tanner on the couch.
“Fear yummy.” Nanet said smiling.
Arthur chuckled. “You’re just like your mother.. Let’s clean him up and prepare him. He’s going to be yours for a while after all.”
“Blood dollie.” Nanet said hugging Tanner’s arm. It had been fun giving Tanner nightmares and she looked forward to coming up with new ways to scare him. After all, nothing tasted better to her than pure undiluted fear.

30K Celebration: This Or That?
Missed yesterday’s Favorite Things About Me? Click HERE!
1. Lace or velvet? Velvet, and I’m not saying that just because I love red velvet cake….though that may have something to do with it.
2. Paperbacks or hard covers? Paperbacks. That way, I can bend it if I need to while reading.
3. Forest or beach? I prefer beaches; they feel safer to me. Sort of ironic because I can barely swim.
4. Thunderstorm or sunny? Thunderstorms. Bright sunshine hurts my eyes.
5. Vanilla or honey scented? That’s…that’s hard! Maybe vanilla? I really like the smell of honey, though…
6. Hair up or hair down? I almost always wear my hair down, unless my hair refuses to cooperate. I’d love to tie my hair in twin tails, but I just can’t do nice looking ponytails.
7. Moon or sun? 100% in support of the moon. And no, it’s not a phase.
8. Romantic love or platonic love? I think both are really important, but platonic love needs to come first in a relationship, I think.
9. Coffee or tea? I’m more of a tea person, but I do drink the occasional sweetened mocha.
10. Comedy or horror movie? Horror movies seem really…fake to me. They also make me really paranoid. So, I’d say comedies.
11. Chokers or necklaces? I’ve always liked chokers, but I actually wear neither.
12. Sunrise or sunset? Sunset! It’s often more colorful.
13. Chocolate or vanilla? Chocolate is where it’s at! Truthfully though, vanilla ice cream can be great when added to other things in my opinion.
14. Flannel or sweaters? Flannel, because I just have that flannel aesthetic.
15. Mermaids or fairies? I’m going to go with mermaids. I’ve always wanted to be able to explore the sea and swim without fear I’m going to drown. Being able to breathe down there would be so cool.
16. Books or movies? For some reason, most movies don’t capture my attention that well! I’d say books.
17. Roses, daisies or lilies? Hmmm…. I’d probably go with roses. I’m a sucker for roses.
18. Heavy sleeper or light sleeper? I am a light sleeper. It takes me about two to three hours to fall asleep. It…sucks.
19. Silent or white noise? If by white noise you mean fan (which I assume you do), white noise. My noisemaker helps me sleep significantly better.
20. Single pillow or many pillows? I have seven pillows on and around my bed. And no, that’s not because people with more pillows are often more depressed. Or maybe it is? Dunno. I just love pillows!
21. Scented candles or incense? Willing to say I go NUTS in candle stores, scented candles.
22. Blueberry or strawberry? Strawberry! It’s always been my favorite. It’s also my sister’s favorite…or was, until she became allergic to them.

24. Sunny days outside or rainy days inside? Rainy days inside. It’s less depressing to be inside when it’s rainy. Also, we don’t get a ton of sun around here.
25. Coke or Pepsi? I hate to be controversial here, but I prefer coke. Pepsi is a little too sweet for my own personal tastes.
26. Stay in or go out on the weekends? I’m definitely a stay in kind of gal. My weekends are for recuperating from weekly stress.
27. Hugs or kisses? My s/o and I much prefer hugging. We have only kissed a few times. Truth be told, I don’t think either of us really know how.
28. Museums or zoos? I prefer zoos. Animals are cool. Also, museums are usually more expensive.
29. Dimples or collarbones? Collarbones! My collarbone is literally the best thing ever and I love it.
30. Cactuses or roses? I’m such a cactus. I’m not even going to lie. Also, cactuses are really cool and usually small. Like me.
31. Dress for comfort or for style? Comfort. As long as I feel good, I don’t usually care what others think
32. Erasing or crossing out things? I like to erase things, but I often cannot since I prefer writing in pen.
33. Eat all day or sleep all day? Sleep all day. I am in a constant state of tired.
34. Earth tones or pastels? Pastels. I’m cliché like that.
35. Lemon or lime? I guess I’d have to go with lemons, though life never gave me any.

42. Early bird or night owl? Night owl. Being up early is….not fun for me.
43. Long hair or short hair? Everyone prefers me with short hair. I prefer keeping it long.
44. Cuddly or hands off? Overly cuddly. I need my affection.
45. Cherry or blue raspberry? I’m going to go with blue raspberry. It reminds me of one of my OCs. It’s also cool because it doesn’t exist in nature. Like, who came up with blue raspberry flavoring? What does it taste like? Blue? Nobody knows.
46. Pro or anti marshmallow? …people are anti marshmallow?
47. Strawberry or mint? I love mint! Especially if it’s mint chip.

54. Ok or okay? Usually I use ok. Sometimes I don’t. And that’s okay. It really depends on the context.
55. Glass half empty or glass half full? I’m trying to become a glass half full person, but I’m definitely a glass half empty person. I’m pessimistic.
56. Dolls or stuffed animals? Stuffed animals are far better for cuddling.
57. Hot showers or cold showers? Always hot showers. I shower when I’m cold, so I need hot water to warm myself up.
58. Astrology or MBTI? I generally lean towards MTBTI, since my astrological sign changed when they added that one extra sign. I still consider myself an Aquarius (though I don’t really take either MBTI or astrology seriously; it’s just fun stuff to consider). As for my MBTI type, I’m an INTP.
59. Times New Roman or Calibri? Calibri. It has a nice name. Times New Romance…did I just type Times new Romance? Nice job, me.

64. Windows or Mac? I come from a long family of Windows users. I have been born into my place already.
65. Hard pretzels or soft pretzels? I like my pretzels like me; soft. I do like hard pretzels, though. Just not as much.
66. Goldfish or Cheez-its? I love goldfish, to be quite honest. They’re always so happy.
67. Peaches or plums? I haven’t had a plum in ages, so I’d have to say peaches. I’ll have to try one again sometime soon.
68. Piercings or tattoos? It depends on the person they’re on.
69. Jumping in leaves or jumping in puddles? I jump in puddles a lot, to be honest. Do I immediately regret it afterwards? You bet.
70. Visual learner or auditory learner? I’m actually neither! I am a tactile learner-I have to be doing things to actually understand anything. This is because I space out very, very easily.
71. Shipping or casually being in fandoms? Actually, I’m neither. I like to stay as far away from fandoms as possible. Most of the things I like have very trashy fandoms. Even looking at fan art sometimes is a struggle for me. Come on, I just wanted fan art without THAT. Is that too much to ask?!?
72. Singing or dancing? I can’t do either, but I sing a lot.
73. Deep space or deep sea? Deep sea! Have you seen some of the creatures down there? They’re rad.
74. Board games or video games? Definitely video games. Board games usually require other people to play with you.
75. Wine or beer? Neither. My medicines are very reactive, so I avoid drinking.
76. Facial hair or clean shaven? I generally prefer clean shaven guys, but some people can really rock facial hair.
77. Sausage or bacon? I prefer sausage. In all due honesty, I’m not huge into bacon. Yes, I said it. Sue me.

80. Glasses or contacts? Have you seen people with glasses? Best.

83. Jello or pudding? Pudding! I associate pudding with marching band trips, so I prefer pudding.
84. Early morning studying or right before the test studying? I usually cram study five minutes before a test. I have trouble remembering things, so studying is usually pointless for me.
85. Long nails or short nails? Due to my nervous habits, I often claw at my face. Having long nails doesn’t help with that.
86. Love letters or serenades? I love to sing to my sweetheart, who claims I have a good voice. I think this is an attempt to make me feel better about it lol
87. Long hugs or short ones? Long hugs. I love hugs. Hugs are the best.
88. Chamomile or lavender? I like lavender better, personally. It’s also more soothing to me.
89. Little spoon or big spoon? I am such a little spoon. Unfortunately, I am the little spoon that likes being the big spoon, but cannot.
90. Texting or calling? I prefer texting. Calling people isn’t fun. It makes me uncomfortable.
91. One episode per week or marathoning? Neither, really. I prefer to watch a couple each day and finish it in three or so days. I also like to take huge breaks before starting new series, especially anime.
92. Glitter or jazz hands? Okay, I like jazz hands. Glitter is cool, but I already have glitter in my life. I need jazz hands. Oh, and more cowbell.
93. Cake or pie? I prefer pie. I have no real reason for this. Cake’s okay, it’s just sometimes a bit dry. Maybe it’s my love for berries that makes pies more appealing. Or maybe it’s because the word pie is amazing.
94. Bowling or skating? Definitely bowling. I have skated (and ice skated) a couple times. All of them were disasters; I am too uncoordinated.
95. Pizza or pasta? Why must you make me choose? I love both! If I really had to, I’d maybe say pasta (since it’s a lot more versatile). That doesn’t mean I would give up pizza, though.
96. Nail polish or eyeshadow? Nail polish doesn’t usually get in my eyes, so nail polish.
97. Movies in the theater or at home? At home. That way, I can multitask.
98. Eggnog or hot chocolate? Hot chocolate! Eggnog is just okay, if you ask me. It’s also a seasonal thing-hot chocolate is usually all winter.
99. Hoods or hats? Hoods. I don’t look good in hats.
100. Private confessions or public anon confessions? You tell me! I’ll be doing confessions in a few days as well.
