Hope your day or night is going well!! ✨
Okay, top five Megumi lines/scenes?
ahhh thank you i hope yours is as well!! and thank you for the ask!!
im in the car rn so some of these i couldn’t track down the specific chapter/page bc i dont wanna use all my data :’)
1 - “i’m not like itadori, i have no problem earning 100 points for myself.” or something along that line
one of the things that fascinates me the most about megumi is the way he places value on lives, and this line is just so cool to me. he’d said before this that he saves people unequally, but this shows just how far that goes. he’ll kill anywhere from 20-100 random people so tsumiki and itadori, the two people he cares about and thinks are worth saving more than anyone else, don’t have to get their hands dirty, and their lives hold more value to him than others. it’s also so interesting to me because of the way megumi doesn’t consider himself a good person like tsumiki or itadori, and therefore doesn’t really see himself as worth saving, so it’s just a necessary burden he has to carry as the “bad” person for those two. also add that in w this line, and im on the floor
Tumblr media
2 - his battle vs sukuna at the detention facility/“i’m not a hero, i’m a jujutsu sorcerer”
another moment where we get an insight into his ideas on good/bad people and who deserves saving, can you tell i love this aspect of his character? i mean, he’s about to sacrifice himself for itadori to live (hopefully), even though he literally met the guy two weeks ago, because he thinks he’s a good person who deserves saving. it’s the first insight we get into megumi’s thought process, and this was really the moment that made me start paying attention to him more. i also love how he kept a softer expression on his face and didn’t cry until after itadori died, like he didnt want itadori to feel sad or guilty in his final moments im SICK also the fact that he took the name-tag to that guys mom even though he didnt have an interest in saving him, like he was paying a respect to itadori….ugh…anyway yeah i love dissecting the way he values life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3 - “so start by saving me, itadori”
see as an itafushist of course this had to make the list like this whole chapter has me on the floor but anyway aside from that, i love thinking about this scene because the words he’s saying seem so contrary to how he thinks? like he’s asking to be saved but he doesn’t think he’s worth saving? so it needs an extra layer of consideration. i feel like he really said this more to motivate yuuji (and save tsumiki) than actually wanting to be saved himself. plus the “it’s our fault, don’t be selfish and give up all alone” aaahhahahsj i just love this moment i feel like it shows his character very well….when the idgafer actually very much gaf….
4 - his first domain expansion
hellooo this was so sick and cool and badass of him like i dont think there’s anything i need to say for this. huge character development moment for him too. add this with the simple domain he had in dagons domain + the part in the culling games arc where he literally hides himself in the shadows……he’s crazy powerful and i dont wanna hear anything abt it! if u were traumatized like that you’d be curled up on the floor too
5 - “if you die, i’ll kill you” both times
again as an itafushist i couldnt not include this….of course there’s implications for megumi’s character as well but i feel like there’s only so much i can talk about his moral code in one post yk? but yeah i think it just shows how much the people he cares about matter to him
also bonus i love just any culling games megumi, his determination to save tsumiki and make it so itadori doesnt have to kill anyone makes him grow so much as a character and as a sorcerer, i love it sm

thank u for the ask! any excuse to yap about megumi 🤞

celia, arikado, leon, sara for the bingo 👁️👁️
Celia
Tumblr media
Oh what a mess of a woman. I know it's more of a writing flaw but i adore how she switches between being a threatening villain to the most incompetent moron ever (seriously girl you fake murder Dracula's reimcarnation's crush and you expect him to not instantly murder you? Fr?). Plus depending on the source she either is legit indoctrinated in her cult's beliefs which gives her a sad facet or she has the more selfish purpose of preserving her own dark magic (and what do i say? I can make both work. I think). Plus the way it can be implied that she might have contact n even collaboration w Arikado makes it better (sorry for the ppl reading this but yes it works i swear im not insane). Go silly gal go! Play Machiavellian schemes with the literal son of the dark lord and underestimate your enemy!
Arikado
Tumblr media
Oh boi and talking abt Arikado; the common idea of a grown up n stable Alucard finding stability after "ending" the cycle is fine and all, but the implication from his AoS n DoS behaviour that he is in a terrible mental state and unable to let go of the cycle? Beautiful. Amazing. Need me more of that. He's this beautiful mini reflection of the revenge cycle, and after living through it, with the goal of murdering his own father, for so long, and having it as his sole purpose, it has devoured him n broken him. And he now wants to take control of it with his own hands, is showing both the worst behaviour of both his father AND the Belmonts (haha SotN parallels w Richter) and might end up making matters worse :) (I blame you for indoctrinating me into the neg character arc Alu, thank u) Anyways someone force this poor moron to take vacations before he loses it
Leon
Tumblr media
THE HIM. MY BABY BOI. I love his honor n morals and how he chooses them in the face of great suffering. His bravery and impulsiveness. How he's sassy can fall into black n white thinking. How loyal he is to those close to him and how much he cares. The balance between his own feeling n his morals. The parallels w Mathias n Sara n Rinaldo. And just hmmmgjsgkwkgd my poor boi
I can't decide if i want him to recover from the LoI events or if I want him to be consumed by his traumas and thirst for revenge but in any case he goes into the blender *puts him into a sock w stones and smacks him against the walls multiple times*
Also, salt warning here but i feel like fandom either exaggerates his neg traits and acts like Mathias descent into madness ("hello church can i abandon our very important military campaign to be at home w my best friend. He needs cuddles n emotional support that will surely fix him. No it's not gay dont worry. Thanks :)"), Sara getting sealed into the VK (which she insisted on and convinced him despite his initial refusal) n the Belmont clan's burden (he did got them into monster hunting w the whip but there's no way he knew how bad things were gonna get) were all 100% his very well informed fault; Or makes him into an idiot sunshine boi who doesn't knows what death is (he's an undefeated warrior with a who knows how large body count) can't think or lead (he maintained the company undefeated during Mathias' illness) and a perfect innocent n easy to manipulate uke for his sexy older seme (I'm not saying they canonically fucked you can perfectly interpret their relationship as 100% platonic or having something but deciding to respect their girls or etc etc. But if they did the nasty then he had to rail Mathias at least a couple of times). I admit im veeery biased and picky regarding this balance but still. He has facets i say
Sara
Tumblr media
Yes my anger girl. Let her commit crimes. I wanna write a post abt her but to resume i love her as a symbol of destroyed innocence (ha). A sweet gal who did helped everyone and was good n nice and disliked violence only to have her life ruined in so many ways that her inner frustration blooms into a divine wrath n bloodthirst. Like i said before I adore her relationship w Leon and how they made eachother better n then worse :). Plus, the manual describes her as strong hearted! She obviously loved Leon n was happy to see him! sacrificed her life in order to not turn into a vampire and instead stop Walter from harming more innocents! She has agency and her choice was crucial not only for Mathias convoluted plan but for the whole cycle. (Ppl stop forcing the "boring 100% sweet harmless never angry gal who always got dragged around by men as an object" archetype on her challenge. Yes i used to be like that but i got gud. If i can recover so others can)
And then she had to see how Mathias betrayed her n Leon and then tried to take him, and dealt w the mess that post-canon Leon was, both together but separated, furious and crushed on the other's behalf, until his death :). AND then she had to wait hundreds of years to avenge him only to have to kill the same bastard over and over and over again. Mix in vampire corruption and you have a caring but toxic Belmont Matriarch/Whip stuck in the cycle. So yea let her have negative emotions and commit crimes (Sorry John).

on the surface, you were beautifully perfect. inside, was a different story. this composure influences an argument between you and minho. he helps you realize that no one cares anyways.
PIERCE THE VEIL series
PAIRING lee minho x gn!reader WC 1.1k TAGS established relationship trope. minor arguing. cussing. petnames: honey, gorgeous. angst but not that severe. reader has problems with her feelings. OMI NOTE minho is secretly ptv coded and nobody can change my mind. hope yall enjoy the (kinda) back to back post muahaha.
Tumblr media
everything on the outside remained perfectly porcelain, a fabricated smile resting on your face like a manufactured doll. a doll that was malleable, taking every punch swung it’s way. minho never appreciated the idea of this, how you just let people boss you around.
but you were happy, and that was the only thing that mattered. you adjusted to any weird situation or any uncomfortable circumstances.
yet when the door closed behind you and you were out of reach, tears escaped from your glossy eyes. everything cut into you at once, all the stress pouring into you like salt on an open wound. the apartment was empty, not a warm body to be found.
it seemed like the coast was clear as you let out strangled sobs. you let your body lean against the wall, slowly descending yourself down the cold plaster. carefully tucking your knees into the rest of your body you sat and cried.
all of your senses subsided, making it feel as if you were in a small orb incapable of feeling anything. what was once your safe space became a problem, as you felt panicked arms rush around your figure.
you didn’t hear a single footstep, nor any movement around you. so why did it feel like you were being held?
moving your head away from your knees, you look up to see what was happening. instead, you are met with a worried minho. he raised the pads of his fingers to wipe tears from your flushed cheeks, his other head holding the back of your head.
“honey, are you okay? why are you crying on the floor?” he mumbled, hugging your body into his.
“i– i’m fine! i’m okay, i just um tripped and it hurt.” you blatantly lie to him, pulling away. “i know you’re lying to me, i just want to help you.” he tries to take your hand, but you move it out of the way before he can grab it.
“minho, i’m fine. please drop it.” you stand up from your spot on the floor, ignoring the furry creatures that came over curiously.
“y/n.” he said sternly, grabbing hold of your wrist before you could get away.
you turned back on your heel, visibly frustrated. he wasn’t supposed to know as much as he was about to, and you know it’d kill him if he did.
“let me go, min. i told you it’s nothing, please.” you tried your best to wiggle out of his grip.
“why do you keep shutting yourself out to me? just tell me that at least.”
“i don’t have to tell you shit.” you spat. “god, i’m just trying to be helpful to you! are you so conceited that you won’t let me be there for you?” he argued with you.
“can’t you just believe that i’m okay? sure i was maybe crying a little but what does it matter to you?” you yelled, tears threatening to spill from your eyes once again, “you’re too busy to care anyways.”
“you know i can’t control my work schedule. you’re being selfish.”
“right, i’m the selfish.”
“you only see the dark side of my love for you, y/n. i want nothing more than to do what i can to help you.”
“theres not much you can do for me. i’m perfect. i’m okay.” you exhale deeply in an attempt to calm yourself.
“but that’s the thing, you aren’t.” he reaches his hand out to you again, in which you hesitantly take.
“minho please–”
“i know you think that– that you have to be some kind of flawless image all the time. and that nobody will take you seriously if you’re vulnerable.” he pauses for a second, recollecting his thoughts, “but nobody likes this shit anyways. i want you to stay true to yourself.”
“that’s easier for you to say. you can stay perfect behind closed doors, while i’m like this.” minho doesn’t respond. “is that what you wanted to hear? that maybe i’m going a little insane? that maybe i’m pulling out my fucking hair trying to maintain this?”
when his eyes trailed to your own, they were glistening with so much sadness. he wrapped his arms closer around you in an embrace. you stayed stiff in his hold, but this didn’t matter to him.
“what if i told you that i was constantly phasing out? that sometimes it feels like i’m wearing a second skin when i’m on stage.” he whispers into your ear, his breath sending chills down your spine.
“you do..?” you mumble innocently, finally letting yourself loosen up.
“of course i do. everyone does. chan does, han, changbin. you aren’t the only one that feels like they need to perfect all the time.”
“fuck. when you say it like that i feel like a terrible person.”
“oh honey. if anything, that only makes the feeling deeper. maybe we can’t afford to calm our minds, but at least know that you aren’t alone. you never are.” he pulls his head out of the crook of your neck, moving his hands to cup your face.
doongie moves from a spot in the corner with his cat bed and other siblings  to curl around your legs his fur rubs softly against your ankle, making you feel slightly ticklish. minho laughed slightly at the small feline creature coming to comfort his other parent.
“see? even our kid is here for you.” you smile at his words, letting yourself fully relax in his arms.
he leans closer into your face, leaving a tender kiss on your lips. it feels comforting, like you finally got the chance to be at home after so many moments of worry. the longer you stayed in his touch, the more reassured you felt.
when he separated from you, you whimpered slightly at the loss of contact. this only enabled him to plant one more chaste kiss onto your lips.
it was sweet. everything you needed to know that this was your safe space. feeling nothing but the plump lips of your lover against yours.
“i’m so sorry for being upset with you and pushing you away from me..” you sigh, pressing your forehead up against his.
“you have nothing to apologize for. i told you that i just wanted to help you. just tell me what you want to hear.” he tells you.
“you’ve told me everything i need to know, minho. i will.. try to be more open from now on.” you promise.
“then how about we start with what has my world so worked up. i don’t want you to cry anymore.”

Question for Miles is a moron, what do you think the throat spray actually was? Do you think he actually thought it was covid protection? Do you think he knew it was nothing and just used his image to lie to his friends to get what he wanted?
GREAT fuckin question. i havent thought on it too much since id mostly seen it from the filmmaking perspective of acknowledging covid in-universe without the everything that came with early covid and no vaccines yet but now u have me thinking.
(this got so long so im gonna put it under the cut oops)
first i wanna say im really mostly talking out of my ass since that scene was the last concrete point abt covid we really have outside of mentions like why miles has the mona lisa lmaooo anyway:
like i said miles really is a moron. everything he takes credit for he either hires someone for, steals their work, or lets them interpret his bullshit (like lionel w the faxes). so i think theres a couple possibilities.
he almost definitely went to someone to develop the throat spray, and its possible he actually asked or expected it to be Real and actually protective. but it being so early in the pandemic and over a year before the irl vaccine wld come out they probably told him its not possible. and theres the point where he could have done a couple things.
he could have 1) pushed whoever to just make it work like we see so many bosses and rich assholes like to do and it IS actually protective [very unlikely but we REALLY dont know much about what happens after the movie covid wise and how far rian johnson changes reality here]
b) done the above and whoever he hired lies to him and says it works when it doesnt, and he believes it works like you mentioned [more likely, but thats putting a moral decision on a person i made up two paragraphs ago lol]
iii) they told him it wasnt possible and he just told them to make a placebo instead and knows its fake like you said, using his image as a genius to manipulate his friends [most likely in my opinion, given everything else he does]
i really do think the last one is what happened. the efficient man doesnt answer blanc's question about what the spray is. all he does is say “youre good,” put the little slap bracelet on blanc, and move on. and we dont know much of miles' actual opinions on masks and covid iirc, besides being friends with both ppl like lionel who properly masks up and asks for elbows instead of a hug from birdie, and with duke who doesnt wear one at all and is. ukno. him. so theres that
all of this to say. miles bron really is just an entitled asshole who thinks he makes change when he doesnt and doesnt care abt consequences. i personally think he actively knows the spray didnt do shit but couldnt stand the idea of going a year without getting his ego stroked by those shitheads and would do anything he “could” to make it happen. this is also the same guy who just sent the 50 people it takes to run the island “home” in the middle of the pandemic which has implications about commuting and pods i dont even want to go NEAR since this is already too long.
tldr: hes a moron AND a manipulating and gaslighting bitch. the spray was probably just saline or whatever and he knew it. shithead

you’ve given us duvall thoughts, let us know what you think about the marvellous miss pickman!! (apart from, ofc, Wife & The Best)
i dont have anythibg interesting 2 say shes just. idk! ive never seen a character like her. every single thing she says or does n the little gestures all blow my mind bc theyre all so on purpose. both on jacks side as a player who has such a clear idea of who she is & on pickmans side as a person who knows what she is n what her goals are. like it literally leaves me breathless w every single line out of her mouth ever since her introduction when jack chose 2 have her rolling cigarettes. like its all SO purposeful it drives me insane no other character is like this. shes so confident in her place in the world. both in the hierarchy of the heart & just being comfortable in her own skin yk? does not give a shit abt what any1 says really. even when she does its only bc it already fits in w her idea of the world & her place in it. i love the contrast btw being the big angry tank who shoots at things 20 times her size n pushes heretics down the stairs & also being possibly the most concerned w morality n implications (in her own realm of rules n priorities obviously. thats the best part) & thinking out all her actions b4hand even if she does it silently. like comparing pickman & my previous alltime favorite fatt character audy (literally least surprising fact abt me) theyre both big n silent n have big shotguns. but when audy just does not care abt most things (like they do. they do care both 4 their friends & 4 l&d feelings but yk. they will push ur wife out the spaceship) pickman cares SO MUCH even if she wouldve pushed a wife off a spaceship. she wouldve gone thru an entirely different thought labyrinth 2 decide if its the best course of action & also if its justified (QUICK detour 2 mention her sapodilla entrance interview where she talked abt the worst thing she ever did n how she justified it 2 herself. theres such a religious undertone 2 everything she does but like. who is her god? despite being a shape priest (her drawing maps ep still mostly stands imo) she does not pray to trains. but she does pray and she does believe she will b punished when she fails. GOD she has such a clear moral compass n general code 4 herself its killing me) anyway i mentioned her extremely strict extremely fluid vision of the world n her place in it abt 100 times. can i talk abt her gender real quick. that post thats like we need more female characters like this n its pics of the iasip dudes & the ovw aussies. its not just that shes very large or """masculine""" (means nothing) shes just so casual abt. her existence in general? nothing she does is masculine or feminine shes just fully pickman. jack is the only 1 who could pull that off this well. but also yes she is very large and i think when u pat her it sounds like when u slap a big dog. & every time i think of her my brain turns 2 mush n she just sits there in the empty mindspace until she decides im done thinking of pickman

Spider-Man post
Okeee so i rlly liked far from home! I feel I might like homecoming just the TINIEST bit better but I’ll have to decide that on rewatching. It’s a really solid follow up, Jake Gyllenhaal was fun & they did a good take on the character of Mysterio. I really liked the scene where Beck does the whole hallucinatory mindfuck they went all out w the effects

tbh i dont expect post shibuya arc would be yuuji’s power development, but rather his character. i think part of the jjk goal is to break apart his original motivation and deconstruct it and show why it’s not a great idea (1)
when he says "proper death", it uses the kanji "正" and i think in this case its almost more accurate to phrase it as "righteous/upright death", or even "just death",, its an argument abt the legitimacy of a certain kind of death that has criteria which yuuji never really defines what exactly this is and the fact that he doesnt know and thus becomes uncertain gets spotlit in the small fry and reverse retribution arc and also during his entrance test with yaga,, imo this weakness is alluded to eventually to yaga he says "i'm not going to regret the way i live" but the thing that has always bothered me most abt what yuuji took from his grandfather's last words is that i think his grandpa also cursed him. the emphasis isn’t on proper life but proper DEATH
notably the term "proper death" is coined by yuuji. i dont believe his grandfather is the one who says this, yuuji says it for the first time when he fought curses in school that night. and this focus of proper death is part of what fuels yuujis image as a "good person"
i mean this is from megumi’s good person vs bad person pov. he’s directly compared to tsumiki; a good person is selfless, cares abt others, chooses to look at silver linings, thinks abt consequences. per his grandfather— a good person saves ppl if thanked, just bc they can
HOWEVER for grandfather, saving is a requirement. we dont know anything abt yuujis family history (yet) so we dont know what fuels this line of thought but what he's really saying is : "if u can save ppl, do it, even if it makes u feel lost - and u wont die alone" and thats some cold calculus! theres an implication of life debts being leveraged to keep ppl around u, thankful to u. that kind of expectation he (or anyone) has isn’t an ideal one : be good, and that goodness will return to u on ur deathbed. tbh,, it sounds like a binding vow mechanics imo
also,, potential death flag right in the first chapter. and yuuji IS a nice guy! but i think the narrative makes it clear that this kind of unsupported play at a rigid morality doesn’t work bc its fundamentally shallow and incompatible with shamans reality and his grandpa says "dont die alone",, and later we see on a chapter where gojou tells megumi that teamwork is great but "you'll always die alone" and "to die and then win, and dying victoriously are two different things". u wanna die without regrets, without cursing someone? die satisfying urself
while geto : "strong must protect the weak" the reason? "there is meaning" but why? shamans need to have some selfishness at their core to be successful. they have to think abt themselves, what drives them, to stand firm when they kill and watch others die in horrific, agonizing ways
yuuji's fixation is on death, not life. if he died after chp 1, or after shibuya, we dont know that it would do anything. sukuna could transfer all his power elsewhere, it could be pointless. not being able to save ppl and 'be good' does not give yuuji firm ground to grow (if his name is the same as knotweed plant gives any indication) and bc as megumi’s pov points out— good/bad are subjective and require some form of witness to be assessed. not necessarily self sustaining. i wouldnt even say that yuuji necessarily rly believes in proper death rather he’s following it bc its his grampa's last words
and so we see a lot of strong sorcerers being selfish,,, they know what they want and go after it, so they dont waver. they care, but very specifically, and so their good/bad balance is rly murky. dogma doesnt work,,, but personal conviction does
and like many ppl pointed out : yuuji isn’t the typical shonen protagonist mostly bc he lacks personal conviction that drives him toward a goal. usually, the series starts off with a character who has a goal—like becoming hokage, number 1 hero, wizard king, pirate king and with a stable sense of self and direction, the protag sets out to achieve that goal. yuuji’s different in the sense that his goal isn’t something he devised of his own; it’s sth he “inherited” : his grandfather’s will.
in his grandfather’s context, u aren’t saving or helping people for urself, but out of a fear of being alone, unneeded, unwanted or a burden. nothing abt proper death helps u think about how to live well, righteously. it STOPS thinking by providing something that looks like guidance
also, it’s a goal that’s more existential, and the criteria and steps towards getting to that goal isn’t clearly defined. which I think makes it difficult to track yuuji’s “development”/ “progress” especially if someone is just considering him as a typical shonen protag.
yuuji can’t possibly control the circumstances of people's death, and how they die. but "proper death" isn’t that flexible— u get it or u dont. the yuuji vs mahito fight is yuuji having to accept that he’s not that,,, "good person"
he also loathes, he rages, he kills. he fails to ensure "proper death". he fails to die, and when he thinks he shld die, he doesnt think abt whether or not he'll die alone. in a way its not surprising that he reversed position bc "proper death" is a concept with very lil teeth
and tbh,, i’m always doubting his “kindness” or being a “good person”, in part bc this evaluation is sth that is provided thru the perspective of megumi, who has a specific definition of a good person. yuuji says it himself too when given the choice to consume sukuna’s fingers and be a shaman, there’s no way he can tell himself he’s not at fault somehow.
so how much of his actions is actually coming from a selfish need to ease his own conscience? how much of it is all so that he won’t actually die alone? how much of it is actually altruistic? and whenever yuuji’s confronted with “big moments” where he has to choose, there’s always a callback to his grandfather’s will. which always makes me ask, how much of his sense of morality is his and his alone, not sth that’s attributable to his grandfather?
take away the grandfather’s will and what does yuuji actually have that informs his worldview? u can reason that u’re just an amalgamation of ur social experiences, but there’s always the key process of personal meaning-making which idk if yuuji has done, bc he never seems to express a personal conviction (except with regards to killing mahito and shibuya turning point),,, he’s also seems aware of this. like when he has his conversation with junpei. he understands that killing would be inevitable but he simultaneously refuses to engage with it?
he doesn’t want to introduce that kind of ambiguity in his life, pointing to a kind of self-reflexivity abt his own psychological/emotional immaturity (?)
(it’s simultaneously a mature and childish way of handling tension?) it’s a departure from typical shonen protags who have a somewhat foolhardy personality, clear abt where they’re coming from and can be reasonably predicted to act in specific ways. shonen protags typically arrive in the story fully-formed in the sense that their beliefs & attitudes are already set in stone, and even when confronted by conflicting ideologies, different points of view, the protag’s ethos doesn’t change,, even if they grow stronger, have low points, or experience conflict. they’re quite static in that sense
yuuji is like,,, a blank slate. we’re seeing the essential parts of his character develop in real time, which is rly exciting for me. ig I think of yuji more in terms of a bildungsroman than a shonen narrative? which also contributes to why I enjoy him a lot.
in a way this begs examination of yuuji,, his grandfather’s death is still hanging over him, he suddenly moved to a new city, maybe he's not really processing it all. he also ate the sukuna finger by himself. is he rly focusing on living in a way he wont regret?
and imho with deathbed curses,,, there’s a meta reflection abt the regrets of a previous generation or relationship being projected onto others and how heavy that can be. it’s like confirmation bias,,, someone’s told you, now you know, can’t unsee,,, that's the curse and the power of words
in a way too, i think his grandfather's explanation of proper death is also one that maps onto a simplified and mistaken way of thinking abt karma ,, where theres a transactional mindset in place: u do good to receive good, but that's not rly how it works
tldr : "proper death" doesnt serve yuuji well bc hes using it as a dogmatic mental crutch and he needs to dig into his self awareness to find a source of personal conviction that will make him want to live instead of die righteously.
and if mahito and death is a mirror for humans then,, what abt yuuji and life for humans?
it’s been hundred of thousands of years since the start of human life and ppl are still trying to cope with death thru a millions of way, but what abt life? no matter how pretty and bright a firefly might shine for a moment, it’s only when they blinked out that ppl might want to wait to see them light up again, if they even have the chance to do so
extra : i thought abt the 3 vengeful spirits and they were said to terrorize the capital in heian era like tenjin by heavy rain and lightning which could be categorize as a natural disaster (?) then it’d make sense why the curses especially like jogo (ie related to nature) would be powerful. ppl were so preoccupied fearing the onryos and their wrath and once they were sealed/ excorcise, the fear for nature would increase and then eventually manifest
unrelated but the concept of youth and the loss of it in jjk always reminds me of herman hesse’s demian, in particular this quote, “The bird fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born must first destroy a world. The bird flies to God. That God's name is Abraxas."
(some) shamans have no choice but to either break the egg earlier than most or, break the egg in normal pace but never had the chance to actually fly to abraxas. i miss nanami sm,,, akutami...at least give me more flashback of him (and haibara) later on
also the tenjo tenge yuiga dokuson 🥴 lemme just organise my thoughts - 🐱 (end)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as always your thoughts are top tier. everything you said made me :DDDDD 😭
at the same time im not surprised yuji hasn’t come into his “own” beliefs yet tbh. he’s still a child!!! it’s normal for children to internalize the beliefs of their authority/guardian figures. i hope you’re right in that we get to see more of yuji himself + his thoughts and watch him grow into a character who actually knows what he wants in life, instead of going off of his grandfather’s last wishes. yuji is honestly so precious and while i usually despise the typical shounen MC I really adore yuji....
and i agree with you that yuji is unusually fixated with the “dying surrounded by people” part rather than the living and making sure you make the necessary connections so you don’t die alone part and it makes me. so sad. plus we’ve been shown time and time over again that yuji doesn’t value his life as much as he should. ugngnggngnnggnnjgkn

im super conflicted abt hawks atm but i was thinking abt his parallels with shigaraki and i was wondering kinda why there's a difference between wanting 'redemption' (i dont think this is the right word but i cant think of a better one 'want better' maybe?) for shigaraki but not for hawks? is it bc he made a permanent decision to kill twice as essentially an agent of the state?
Just to preface, I don’t think I’m objectively right for just wanting Hawks to eat shit immediately in the next chapter. I’m just complaining because a lot of people who “love both Hawks and Twice” and “think Hawks was wrong, but…” are hard to get away from without going in the other direction toward a group of people who have shitty fandom behavior, whose opinions about the Hawks/Twice situation are (unfortunately) much closer to my own. I don’t think there’s necessarily a “correct” way to feel about Hawks, but I feel differently than a lot of people I see around (who, ironically, are the ones insisting that there’s a “correct” way to feel about Hawks), and that’s frustrating. I want to be done with Hawks. I don’t want him to get any more focus in canon, I don’t want to see more posts about how Hawks committing murder is an indication of inner turmoil instead of him choosing a side, I don’t want to keep running into posts that tack on “but Hawks is also sad/a victim” in discussing what’s pretty clearly a tragedy for Jin and the LOV that Hawks was completely and 100% solely responsible for.
But, yeah, sure. I’ll also explain what I think is the difference between Tomura and Hawks:
1. Part of it is emotional and not logical for sure. I love Jin a lot. He embodies the person who has faced incredible adversity, and still comes out on the other side ready to love and open his heart to others, moreover to protect others. I’m not like that at all, but I think it’s very admirable. So in that sense, it hurts on a personal level to lose him over anyone else, and I can’t not associate that with Hawks, since he’s the killer.
2. Jin is a significant death. The nameless minions that Tomura has killed (many of whom were active “Quirk supremacists”) don’t mean anything to me compared to Jin, and?? Through the lens of narrative, I think that makes Tomura more forgivable, because I genuinely have no interest in there being any plot “resolution” with, like, the dead anti-mutant cultists, because I just do not care about them.
3. Tomura, especially early Tomura, has threatened to go places that are unforgivable, like leaving All Might’s students dead and forcibly bringing Bakugou over to their side (whatever terrible procedure that may have entailed). The difference is that the narrative never actually allowed him to cross that line by actually killing the kids, who we do care about as characters, so while the intent in itself is pretty awful, he was never allowed to complete the action that would take him over to the point of no return. Hawks, however, did cross the line by killing someone who we care about and who is narratively established as a “good person,” who even Hawks concedes is a good person.
3. a. I don’t like the MLA ideologically and I don’t like the decision to have the LOV team up with them. But, again, their takeover plan has been stopped in its tracks, which I’m actually fine with to prevent the LOV from crossing the moral event horizon, but that’s, like… completely irrelevant to me thinking Hawks shouldn’t have killed Jin.
3. b. Though there’s still a chance for Tomura to cross the moral event horizon, and I’m not going to convince myself that it won’t happen. If it’s going to happen, I think it’s highly possible that it might happen in this arc, because now Jin is dead and we know how Tomura and the LOV have historically responded to their friends getting hurt. I, and many others, have called Jin the “heart” of the LOV (his name is also literally written with the kanji for “benevolence”), and now without him, there is no remaining heart nor goodwill.
4. Although both Tomura and Hawks are, on one level, fighting on behalf of the ideals that they were “raised into,” their fights happen in very different ways. The MLA arc in particular made clear that the villains are, in part, fighting for their very survival in ways heroes just aren’t. The threat that the LOV were living under was constant—when it wasn’t heroes or other villain groups, it was trying to find money and shelter and essential upkeep. Hawks may not be “free” from the HPSC or the occasional villain attack, but he’s free from those constant material struggles. He’s not an “underdog.”
4. a. Tomura is also, in part, fighting to protect his marginalized friends. It’s for sure not on behalf of every marginalized person, but it’s certainly more than we’ve seen any pro hero fight for. The people Tomura is surrounded with are people who have never been protected nor cared for before, because they were not deemed “innocent” enough to deserve that care and protection, and Tomura continued to care for them even when it was troublesome for him to do so, when they disagreed with him, when they threatened him, and when they fucked up very, very badly.
4. a. i. Eri is an example of a victim who the heroes fought for, but she’s an easy case to want to love and protect: Overhaul was inarguably an abuser who wanted to elevate the yakuza, she was being used in extended torture-experiment sessions, she killed her father on accident, she’s a child, she’s innocent, she’s selfless, she’s well-behaved. It’s basically not even a question whether or not she “deserves” help.
4. b. It’s people who are difficult who get overlooked. Hawks and hero society are completely unprepared to protect and care for people who don’t behave as they’re supposed to. Hawks did not care for the LOV who didn’t personally befriend him. For the one he did, when Jin didn’t cooperate the way Hawks wanted, he went for the kill. It’s either being easy and “manageable,” or die.
4. b. i. Tomura has specifically spared two people who tried to kill him or actually succeeded in killing his ally, people who he explicitly hated or did not care for. So make of that what you will, I guess.
5. From a leftist perspective, it’s just impossible not to account for the fact that Hawks helps maintain a social structure that creates so much suffering. The question isn’t really whether AFO’s teachings to Tomura are better (they’re not, and I want Tomura to break away from them), but it can’t really be ignored that Hawks is enforcing an ideal that’s wildly popular. Why this matters is that Tomura doing the wrong things will be roundly condemned, and he’ll probably be “punished” for them; but heroes are very unlikely to be punished or held accountable for committing murder, especially if it’s “justified.”
5. a. This is problematic because it allows heroes, and the state, to define what a justified “emergency situation” is, and who can die in those emergencies. The people who are deemed killable “in an emergency” are usually those who are already marginalized; hence heroes can wait until those marginalized people get desperate enough to commit villainous acts, and then they can swoop in to arrest or kill them to widespread public acclaim.
5. b. Heroes (and law enforcement IRL) don’t address the roots of crime that lie in overarching oppressive structures like misogyny and capitalism. They don’t prevent theft by bringing people financial stability; they arrest people who were desperate enough to steal, and use those people to send a message to poor people everywhere. They make these conditions of desperation more permanent by punishing the most vulnerable people when they slip up, while doing absolutely nothing until the slip-up happens.
5. c. Heroes are punching down, and villains are punching up. That may not be the case with AFO, but I believe it with the LOV specifically, and I believe this matters because it’s exemplified between Hawks and Twice. Hawks targets someone who reached out to him, despite being hurt over and over again by types like him, who has dealt with poverty and fantasy mentally illness completely on his own, and kills him in defense of the very society that allowed all those things to happen to Jin. Hawks was given a choice: sympathize and relate to Jin, and acknowledge his well-founded grievances toward a dysfunctional society, or prioritize the safety and security of that dysfunctional society by permanently removing Jin from the equation. The choice he believes in is the choice he made.
5. d. In order for Tomura to make the same choice with the same implications, they’d have to be living in an alternate universe, in the Kingdom of AFO, where Tomura is a respected noble who infiltrates a rebel group who were going to “commit atrocities,” kills the one person who offered him a way out of AFO’s control, and possibly screws the rebels altogether, but everyone is happy that the rebels are gone. Even if you think Tomura is capable of that, it’s irrelevant because canon!BNHA has completely different power dynamics. Because Tomura’s violence will always be unpopular and persecuted, rather than justified and glorified by the state, he physically cannot replicate a choice like Hawks’. Tomura can approximate it, but even if he does, he’ll be hunted down by heroes for doing so. The circumstances and consequences for making such a choice are totally different.
So. That’s why I don’t think Tomura and Hawks can be equated. Suggesting that this is a level playing field is essentially believing that criminals and law enforcement exist on level playing fields, and they absolutely do not at all. Hawks is particularly abhorrent because he’s already followed through with his choice. He holds power by being part of the policing class, and regardless of how he came into it, he behaves exactly the same as everyone else who “freely” joined, and in his position of power he made the choice to eliminate someone who was socially powerless.

i do want to mention though a few things; it feels hypocritical of ppl to criticize spottedshade for the sake of ‘demonizing lesbians’ when nobody(that ive seen) criticizes when ppl make scourge, tigerstar, darkstripe, ashfur, sol, or hawkfrost gay. it feels hypocritical to criticize that theyre from different generations (that would never have interacted, would have equatable life experience when they meet, and are healthy) when i havent seen that mentioned for half moon/jayfeather or fallen leaves/hollyleaf. it feels hypocritical when people criticize their different ages when they died, when spottedleaf was 4.1 years according to the wiki, and mapleshade’s age is at most described as a new mother (and never described as a senior warrior or elder, despite whitestorm having been described as a senior warrior and being 5.5 years old at his death books later, which implies theyre around the same age. granted, into the wild ages are a bit messed up.), considering how little brambleclaw/squirrelflight is criticized despite brambleclaw having known squirrelflight since her birth and was a warrior then, sometimes even acknowledging that age difference but stating it as fine.
honestly? looking at all this, it feels like there really is a double standard here. and considering the careful notations that have been made to the spottedshade au, that they both have the same amount of power socially, that they do not meet until they are both adults, and that their relationship is healthy and not abusive, it feels more and more like some of these criticisms are coming either from criticisms of evil!spottedleaf as an au, or from lesbophobia and misogyny. If you don’t like evil!spotted, thats fine, but when critiquing spottedshade, say thats your reason- dont go searching for things that arent there and accuse spottedshade of perpetrating things that it doesnt.
(small note; spottedshade is not the only ship containing lesbians that happens in this particular evil!spottedleaf au. the other ships (leopardsasha, mothpool, hollywillowheather, dovebriar, ivyblossom) do not contain characters that die, and while leopardsasha does contain leopardstar who is a morally grey character and the two do not stay together because sasha leaves the clans, mothpool, hollywillowheather, dovebriar, and ivyblossom do not die, are healthy, do not contain characters considered evil but they may be complex, and mothpool especially is considered protagonists in this au. because there are other lesbians that are not evil, spottedshade doesnt fall under the demonizing lesbians trope because being lesbians is not what makes them evil; it is a characteristic entirely separate from their alignment. in a story where there are multiple lgbt characters, and the villain happens to also be lgbt, is that considered demonizing lgbt characters? if a character dies but there are other lgbt characters still alive, is that burying your gays? the general consensus ive seen for this is no, it isnt; the same should apply here.)
ive also noticed a lot of assumptions from people critiquing evil!spottedleaf, such as that the people who make it are the same as people who make evil brightheart aus (no.... theres literally no canon basis for that. maybe shes bitter towards bluestar at best?), snowkit-tuft aus (uncomfortable implications of ableism there because again, no canon basis and no real reason), who like crowfeather (no. we hate him. vocally.), who defend thistleclaw (ABSOLUTELY NOT. he deserved to die and rot in hell and die again!), and i dont even know what else! if you have criticisms, sure! but we agree with you that those aus and characters are horrible and bad; stop saying that we dont.
(also; obligatory reminder that evil!spottedleaf is based in canon, and to read other posts abt that that are in my /tagged/about)

i will always hate the gray man idgaf how hard maggie tried to redeem him he was boring af forced into a hetero pairing with no chemistry and he killed ronan's dad which fucked ronan up so badly like he hurt my favourite character, the light of my life ronan lynch, in a way he'll never fully recover from. mayb it wasn't personal whatever he still murdered people for money and anyone in this fandom who likes him (esp if they hate kavinsky bc honestly kavinsky deserved so much better) can fuck off
i dont hate the grey man tbh hes just not interesting to me at all esp when his backstory comes at the cost of kavinskys since maggie is incapable of righting more than one complex morally dubious character apparently and i hate how the grey man is A Okay bc the narrative says so but kavinsky is the devil bc the Narrative Says So so tbh i probably hate the implications and consequeces of the grey man more than the man himself like yeah the whole romance with maura was ??? rushed and unnecessary lol and yea hes a grown ass adult who made a choice to be an assassin and just i could care abt him but i dont bc my heart is filled with my boy k soz

i think an indication of the light (i.e. the talented writers.......) leaving the da series is that like origins is, in a lot of ways, a type of game i’m not usually into. i hate the way everything looks, i hate a lot of the mechanics, i have adhd and the idea of reading all that warden dialogue makes me want to take a nap and usually would really break illusion for me but i loved the game and i got so attached to my surana...i played through it twice with her to explore different options and romance leliana and zevran, and then when i got it on pc i made the same character, because i couldn’t think of playing it without her tbh, and modded the game to romance morrigan like i’d always dreamed of lmao. bioware made me create and live through this character and go through an expirience that for me, always culminated in a dramatic, fitting, emotional sacrifice. i am still touched by the story of my surana, who finally went out into the world and really got to know it and make friends in it for a short time, and then ultimately made the decision to die protecting it. nowadays i dont remember like..anything abt it except for the characters, but thats msotly because it got way overshadowed in my heart by 2
dragon age 2 is a rushed and broken piece of shti with half its story missing. i’ve probably played it all the way through about 9 or 10 times?? i made a bunch of different characters this time because i wanted to explore all the options (in a game where you explore the same caves 800 times and have the same argument through the entire storyline lol). i cared more about that game than i maybe ever have about a game? it made me love the series, somehow, even though i hated so much stuff about the da world bc its boring as hell tbh, because of the life in the characters. i romanced them all at least twice. i did everything i could other than side with the templars, and i like tried, multiple times, but i couldnt. the game made me feel strongly enough about it that i couldn’t bring myself to /pretend/ to agree with a socio-political stance in the game world because it went too strongly against my morals. a lot of the ‘choices’ you make in biowares are illusions of choice that mean nothing, but in da2 i feel like they were the best at both 1)hiding that, and 2)making some choices matter if only because YOU know what YOU did, even if it doesn’t effect anything.
and the kicker is like, this is dorky as hell lol but in my mind’s eye i picture my surana in a relationship with zevran, leliana, and morrigan, because they were all characters i got invested in and stuck with me and i feel they made an impression on the character i created and put into the story to an extent that it would feel wrong picturing that character without any of them. she’s best friends with sten. she wishes her and wynne could get along better, as fellow mages. she...wishes the best for alistair. hawke is the same deal; the four og romances were each affecting and important enough to me that i end up deciding ‘my hawke’ is just dating everyone lol. i like all the characters too much to choose. i’ve thought so so so much about the hawke i finally settled on. about her relationships with her family and their past, things she feels guilty about, how she handles and expresses that guilt, how she feels deep down about every important character and plot point.
when i first got inquisition it was the most hyped i’d ever gotten about something. i would gush at my brother about the lore of the world for literal actual hours at a time in the months before the game came out. i borrowed money to buy it the second it came out. I played through the whole thing, like, 99% completion, the only achievements i was missing were ones that required a second play through or specific story choices i didn’t know about. I freaked out at my friends not to spoil anything because they’d finished the game before I’d gotten to the winter palace. I never finished a second playthrough. I started several other characters but I know on a few of them i never even got to the fight at haven (or past the pride demon, but that was as a mage on expert mode which i’m pretty sure is actually just not possible so rip i guess) I don’t really have a ‘canon’ inquisitor? I don’t really feel anything about the one I finished the game with. Even as excited as I was I spent the whole game annoyed that the inquisitor didn’t seem to have personality at all, let alone the choice of a personality that you could make with your warden or with hawke. I romanced sera.....and I actually felt bad about myself because of how they wrote everyone else to treat her. It actually made me feel unwanted and wrong as a young lesbian. I cried when sera was confirmed pre-release as a for sure, specifically Lesbian love interest. I loved her before the game even came out. It made me feel accepted in a time and place where I very actively was not, and when I was struggling, within finding myself as a Gay Youth in general, with the idea that being a lesbian, specifically, was a bad thing that I should choose not to be in lieu of a better, more progressive form of Gay. Cue a proud and unapologetic lesbian character, the first in the series, that everyone fucking hates and that you can kick out of the game at any time with little consequence. With a romantic story line that seemed like an afterthought, and to have less care and attention put into it than two straight options that actually WERE afterthoughts, because they weren’t even going to be in the game until mid-development. A lesbian with an opening quest for her romance arc that is basically just you running around to every other companion and listening to them list everything they hate about her, at worst telling you you’re making a mistake in associating with her bc shes stupid and disgusting and at best giving an obvious “well....whatever you think is best....hope that works out for you..........OUO;;;.....” That quest, if you keep romancing her, culminates in what is supposed to be both of you deciding “fuck what all of society thinks, we’re all we need” because, lesbians, right? thats the lesbian narrative? except homophobia doesnt exist in this world so we had to make everyone hate sera Herself in order to fit it in and that doesnt have any implications at all. and then you have sex; sera’s very sexual, because,,,,,,,,,,not because men think lesbians are hot umm........its because........uhhh........its empowerment!!! but i digress like i love sera despite bioware lol. and i tried to spend time daydreaming and fleshing out my inquisitor and her and their relationship and lives with each other and shit but all the thinking i did on it was forced. unlike my surana and my hawke, my inquisitor isn’t poly w/ everyone because i couldn’t bare to choose between characters i loved. i didn’t even romance most of them. i don’t even have a specific character in mind as ‘my’ inquisitor. the characters i liked the most, that felt the most well-written and fleshed out, were established characters from pre-existing da content. and the game even fucked up my hawke that i cared about and loved because they wanted to capitalize on how much people love hawke, and love Their hawke, but put in a weird hawke-puppet that had none of Any of the personalities you could give them, and that just said dull bullshit about how theyve seen what the corruption of blood magic can do, etc. etc. etc. like.....................................the magic is gone and their left with good characters they don’t know how to write and i mostly boring world with some interesting aspects they decide never to touch on.

anon who sent the last ask here and on a different note: if you dont mind, could you expand on why you dont like those GF episodes you mentioned in that post? im genuinely curious, i love Gravity Falls but i also have plenty of criticisms of the show, so its refreshing for me to see other fans give legitimate critiques of the show. you dont have to if u would prefer not to ofc!
Little Dipper honestly just annoys me??? It gets scheduled on Disney XD like every morning and my family always has it on. I feel I guess a lot of second hand embarrassment for Dipper and Gideon and i hate hearing G say creepy things abt Mabel so I generally don’t like his eps (I get that he’s an antagonist and it’s supposed to be creepy but the show drags it’s unrequited crushes to hell and back when it should. Drop. Them.)
Stanchurian gets on my nerves esp bc of the current political climate. Stan as a guy who “tells it like it is” and is rude abt like women (the show’s weird makeup jokes!! Back again in this ep….). He’s shown in the wrong but like the other ep I just feel uncomfortable. Also I hate that my brain draws comparisons between Stan a character I love and literally one of the dumbest most evil people alive. This isn’t on the writers bc they probably wrote it waaaay before the debates and election hubbub but it sours it a lot!
Also I thought the kids were gonna use Tad Strange bc he’s yknow blank.. malleable.. he’s a bland guy so I went oh!!!! They’re gonna control him but they did.. a weird thing where the kids are nasty to Soos and treat him as inferior and subservient to them which is mega shitty bc he’s hispanic and they’re white kids. Like why not use tad ??? A waste of a great guest voice and it would have been much funnier and without a bad taste and accidentally being racist.
Soos and the Real Girl has one of the show’s most uncomfortable and undeniably transphobic jokes (Soos trying to confirm the fake hot topic employee’s gender). The show like skirts around transphobic jokes and I believe truly that most of them were accidents or they just didn’t think about the implications. But I can’t believe no one thought it was wrong in all the reviewing they do to get shows out.
Alternatively the episode suffers from lotsa heteronormativity (I don’t think Soos would even care abt that person’s gender anyway if he had a cute moment with them instead it could have been fun?!?!! I don’t mind the moral (I think???) and the show is a comedy so I wasn’t surprised that the topic of relationship abuse was not handled sensitively but it still gets on my nerves. Also why introduce melody if you were only going to immediately write her out like……… come on……….
