I honestly almost wrote an exhaustive thing about this (and deleted it bc I didn't have the spoons to deal with it then,) but since most of what I wanted to say is already here I will say this: during the discussion where Gale mentions he's not father material, that is also during the discussion if you are trying to bring Halsin into the relationship. You'll notice that Gale sets an extremely clear boundary about his relationship expectations with Tav, but when he assumes that you're at first speaking about bringing a child into the relationship, he follows up his "father material" comment with something along the lines of "besides our lives aren't exactly what you would call settled."
Why then, would he set a very clear boundary about his relationship preferences, but be wishy-washy about the children discussion? To me, this is Gale's way of very silently and covertly expressing something that he actually at one point in his life desired to have, but was denied because of his time with mystra. Not to mention the whole orb situation that wrecked his life for a year, and I believe at this point in the game Gale still firmly believes that he's going to become an atomic bomb, so why would he even consider having a future with anyone for any reason?
I firmly agree here that the children conversation is very nuanced and as far as I'm concerned it could go either way. If you want your tav and Gale to run off into the sunset and headcanon having a bajillion children running around your tower together then do that! If you are still super against the idea of him being a father, and want him and Tav to live a blissfully child-free life, then that is perfectly fine too! Knowing Gale, he would more than likely be happy as long as he's with Tav, and alive to enjoy his life as he sees fit now that the tadpole and the orb are gone. He gets to have his partner, see his mom, see Tara, and be back home in Waterdeep. I would argue that anything in addition to that is just icing on the cake for him... No matter what that looks like.
Also, as a bit of a personal aside, I have three children of my own, but believe me when I tell you that I definitely do not consider myself mother material. There are moms out there who do far more with their kids than I do with mine, are always busy, are always into various activities, and basically are just the absolute picture of perfect motherhood. I have never been that person but that does not mean I love my kids any less. Thanks to being in therapy for the last year and a half, I have come to realize that there's nothing wrong with the way I parent my children because I love them and I care about them and their needs and wants are met as much as I am able to provide. I know that they love me and that I respect them and appreciate them and love them. As long as I know that they're good, that's what matters to me. I don't need to be the picture perfect Pinterest mom to be a good mom. But to be perfectly honest, I exude more auntieenergy than anything LOL
All of that being said, not considering yourself parent material does not necessarily mean you are a bad parent. However, at least in my experience, it leans more towards one's mental health, and their perceptions of themselves. I think if Gale went home to water deep and got himself a really good therapist first, he would be able to deal with not only the nonsense with mystra, but also his general feelings of low self-worth. But, you would be surprised how easily a person can start to heal when they start to realize that they are no longer burdened by a lot of the things that were once working against them.
If you don't like the idea of Gale being a father in YOUR game with your Tav or just with any character in general, then, girly by all means don't headcanon it. But actively trying to gatekeep the character, by shaming those who do, well....why be an asshole?
So listen, Gale girlies who want Gale to be a dad, (if this doesn't apply to you then scroll). Gale absolutely has dad energy. I've seen a lot discussion about the "I'm not exactly father material" line he says during act 3 and I'm not the first to say this, but I'm here to remind you that you can't take everything the companions say at face value, because these are complex characters and it's not always black and white. As others have said before, Gale not only has the orb in his chest at the time, but the tadpole, and your situation with him is uncertain and unstable. Of course he's not going to think of himself as father material in that moment. Why? Because it's something so far out of his reach. Gale has a lot of self-esteem issues, and I can definitely see him wanting to be a dad in the future, but unsure if he would even be a good one, but once he is a father, being the absolute dad of dads. Also saying you're not "parent" material, does not automatically equate to "not wanting to be a parent." These feelings can exist separately.
If I do recall, I did see a scene where Tara mentions something about Gale starting a family? Gale finding normalcy and having the things he could never have with Mystra makes perfect sense for his character, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Gale can definitely be seen as a father and would make a great dad. The people who claim so boldly that he wouldn't want children with Tav, are just projecting and they don't see these characters with nuance, they just hear the character say something in the game, and just decide with a gold medal in mental gymnastics that (you're mistaking his "dad energy" for "mother energy" which is actually just "malewife" energy) and spew their own biases out in "hot take" posts with every intention of ruining things for others. It's mean spirited, and should be ignored.
I see you all with your cute little headcanons, naming your Tav and Gale's children, and some of you with amazing fan art. I've seen you draw your little Tav/Gale families. It's precious and it's sweet. Keeping doing what you're doing, and don't let the gatekeepers bring you down. Seeing Gale as a father is perfectly valid.
K. Bye.

Okay, some Glee discourse, because it's been a while ::
@lilacdaisyrose mentioned in a comment :: I’m so shocked that Ryan Murphy actually revealed that!! Also, I’ve always wondered (sorry kinda related), at the time was Adam quite a big thing in the Klaine fandom? To me I find Adam so confusing because there’s so little character development and I always wish there was even a bit more, but also wonder why they introduced him if they weren’t going to really add to his character? 🙂
Okay. So. There are a lot of components to this. In order to understand the whole Adam thing, you kind of need to have the context of what was going on within fandom at the time.
The short version (because this deserves it's own psychological thesis piece) is that Kurt Hummel had a huge fan base that had been fractured into many different sub fandom groups, all of them centered around shipping him with different characters. But mostly the big divide was between people who liked Kurt with Blaine and people who didn't.
[This whole sub culture fandom thing is so fascinating, and I really should write up a giant master post about it some day.]
So, we got wind that Adam was coming some time around Christmas (And, I mean, originally his name was Paul, and it was Paul's Peaches. I wonder why that didn't clear Fox Standards and Practices, huh.) And so the Anti-Blaine Kurt Stans got a hold of this info and just raaaan with it. Like, it did not matter who he was or what kind of character he was -- he was not Blaine and that's ALL that mattered.
So, Adam became a thing before he was even a thing.
A couple of things happened, though. First of all, like usual and typical, the Klaine fans (and I mean, I'm not even getting into the sub culture of Klaine fan divides either, because that is another post) began harassing everyone - including the actor, which, you know, made him a little cold (understandably). He did one interview attempting to insinuate that his role was important, but it definitely bristled and I don't think it was his best PR move, but that was lower compared to all the rest of the nonsense going on.
The big thing that happened was that Adam's first song -- the remix of Baby, Got Back, was tied up in some legal issues. Basically, Ryan Murphy used the mix without crediting or even asking the person who mixed it if they could use it. Now, they got permission from Sir Mix A Lot (or whomever did that song originally) but then it got into some weird legal gray area stuff, and blew up in the media and left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. So the general audience soured on him pretty quickly.
On top of that -- there was a shit ton of stuff going on BTS -- Cory's addiction was becoming a problem, the network wanted to kill the show, the tinhatters were driving Chris to murder, like there are a bunch of layers of stuff going on that made all this complicated, and it all kind of results in Season 4 just being wonky on a lot of levels.
(Btw - do Kevin and Jenna talk about Adam at all? I haven't listened to the podcast in a long, long while, so I don't know, but my curiosity is piqued.)
But during that time, this was when the Glee cast was finally beginning to set some boundaries concerning social media, but Ryan Murphy was beginning to try to use it -- and he kept getting himself involved in fandom, and flying a little too closely to the sun. I do think Klaine was always where he wanted to go (because the actors (mostly Chris) did complain -- which, again deserves it's own post). But they were loud, and they were obnoxious about it.
No, Klaine fans did not like Adam. At all. They wanted him gone, and we wanted reconciliation. But the Anti-Blaine Kurt stans made Adam the measure of who Kurt's bf should be. They did not really care that Adam only had three episodes and very zero development and was clearly dropped like a hot potato because it's obvious Kurt still has feelings for Blaine because, you know, Kurt's sleeping with Blaine while this whole dating Adam is going on but...
It was just a mess.
The other thing you have to remember is that -- while this was live, we didn't get the chance to just watch quickly in succession and go onto the same thing. Those of us who were spoiled knew of this character for months before he appeared. And it was a whole fucking long time before Love Love Love finally closed the door on it officially. So while he was only around for those three episodes, the open endedness of it last a LOOOOONG time. And no one knew what was going on.
So the shipping wars, as usual, continued on and on and on.
I'm trying to think if I at all answered your question, lol.
Why did they create him? the tl;dr version is that since Season 3, they had Klaine (the now b-couple) mirror Finchel (the a-couple) -- prior to that Finchel was the b-couple and Wemma the a-couple, and Glee loved to do parallels with them. But Wemma really wasn't a thing much by season 4, and Klaine was much more popular, and my god they just loved having Kurt be Rachel lite sometimes that they're basically telling the same story with both couples.
So, Rachel gets a season long boyfriend only to wind her up with Finn again (only the cory stuff threw a wrench into that). So, clearly, Kurt needed to have one, too. But also -- they needed to have Kurt do something. They weren't going to put Klaine back together until sweeps week, or the finale because that's how network tv paced things back in the day. So Adam was just subpar character development.
I don't know what their original intentions for the character were. I don't know if they knew. I think they had their story up until 4x15 (overall) and then it got rocky because things with Cory were getting weird and it all just fell apart.
I do think, like Darren, the actor playing Adam got a three episode contract, and they wanted to test the audience's reaction. Clearly, it did not go well, and the added legal issues of the song just kind of made them sweep it under the rug all the faster.
Hopefully, some of my rambling made sense.
Maybe at some point in the future, I'll do an expansive history of the Kurt fandom series.
Or y'all can keep asking questions. What ever you'd like to do <3 lol

As someone who's been wondering why there've been so many senseless, needless arguments online about a hypothetical derth of purity in fiction and how it affects people negatively (it doesn't), now learning from several friends who are teachers (with the oldest being a uni professor) that Gen Z (27-11 yo) and Gen Alpha can't read, have poor media literacy, and soley seek fiction to reaffirm their own worldviews without curiosity and with judgement (and a lot of it). I say this as someone who is Gen Z. I'm only 26 years old, but I'm also a TA right now while I'm in grad school. it's not just the middle school and high school students. College students who should be able to do simple literary analysis cannot. Sure these issues (puritanical thinking, absent/poor parenting, lackluster curriculum, etc) have always existed, but with this in mind, it absolutely makes sense why there's so much dumb discourse over things in media that anyone with sense could separate from reality. Even simple things that you learn in elementary school at 6 years old, like "just because the story is focalized through a specific character, doesn't mean they're correct/the protagonist≠morally righteous/you're not always supposed to agree with the POV character or main characters." Maybe it really is the case that, sure some people are being deliberately obtuse, but there are also others who probably don't know.
I've seen it explained to people in fandom and on tumblr with popular series people have read or seen. No, you're not supposed to think Light Yagami is a good guy or a hero. "L is the straightforward hero in Death Note the whole time" isn't clever. It's the main text. No, you're not supposed to agree with Eren Jaeger or military fascists. "SNK is pro military and pro genocide" is just inaccurate. All the characters exhibiting those traits are killed to signal the flaws in their rhetoric. It's actually really unambiguous in that regard, not at all subtle. No, x shoujo/YA fantasy/Ya romance isn't advocating for middle school or high school girls to date men in their mid-20s. Teen girls have always fantasized about adults they find attractive, and these stories (made for and marketed to teen girls) fulfills that desire while protecting them from the possibility of that reality (an adult returning their feelings). No, it's not weird that mythological gods (but I see people mostly complaining about Greek and Egyptian ones) are related. It's purposeful. They're all related concepts and personifications of nature, which is all connected. Get over yourselves. No, it's not weird that gothic stories have incest in them. It was a common practice among aristocracy and nobility all around them world (so, not just a "white people thing"), and it typically symbolizes the decay as social norms. If you feel discomfort, then the story was successful.
On the one hand, sure. It's purity culture, ignorance, misogyny, etc. On the other hand, do the people who harp on about these actually know how to interpret stories? I'm often told "They can't read" as an explanation by others. I'm starting to think it's true, and I don't know how to combat that as someone who may be an educator down the road myself while also being involved in fandom.
--
I'd say it's about 50/50 the usual The Kids These Days scaremongering and a genuine shift.
Reading comprehension can be taught. I was taught to analyze passages in school. Students have to be open to learning, but it's not like some critical language thing you need to absorb before the age of two: a college student who's actually interested in getting better can perfectly well do so, possibly with some help or possibly just with experience.
Plenty of it is anxiety about being wrong and immoral and hurting people too. It's fundie thinking where listening and engaging means capitulating. Lots of people do slowly get over this. Many will calm down about it if they ever get the anxiety meds they so desperately need. Some would probably benefit from ceasing to self harm via social media doomscrolling or exclusively consuming attention span-destroying, FOMO-inducing garbage.
...I say as I answer tumblr asks instead of getting out of bed to start my New Year's resolutions.

No because the Sukume father/child bullshit STILL upsets me!
it's so irritating. They can't stand the idea of it being a canon queer ship. No, they refuse. It's so mindnumbing too. Like, whatever if that's what you want to think go for it but the hate shippers are getting is insane NEITHER OF US ARE RIGHT! As far as we know, the ending only confirmed they're close friends.
I choose to read Sukunas dialogue as him excepting trust, love and loyalty represented by Uraume. Someone who has always been with him, and showed love through their devotion, acceptance and presence. Over Lust, power and obsession represented by Yorozu.
Yorozu 'fell in love' with Sukuna at first sight, and I personally do not believe in love at first sight. She saw a powerful man, attractive, and she became obsessed. Obsessed with the concept of him, the idea of him returning her feelings. She did not truly love him.
Uraume, despite us not knowing how they met, we can see how they show their love through small and large actions. There is a built trust between them, because Uraume got to know the real Sukuna. They cared about Sukuna, not just the king of curses but Sukuna. The bond they built together was strong, Sukuna clearly trusted Ume (he even gave them one of his fingers to look after, a piece of his soul) and even if he never acknowledged this trust as care or love, he still valued their presence.
Now about the father/child dynamic, I genuinely have no clue how they got that. Like Daddy issues aside in what world is Sukuna a fatherly figure? He can't even be an uncle let alone a dad! And Uraume has never been depicted as a child or childlike or young. They've been shown as a calm young adult. In their vessel body and even their original hein body Ume has consistently been shown to be at the very least a young adult. It's simply a size difference.
What's also strange is how before the final chapter, people were going bananas over their size difference and sexualizing it, or just sexualizing Uraume in general. The fandom has been sexualizing Uraume to hell and back- 'sukuna dickrider' jokes, or 'Uraume and Hakari getting freaky' jokes but suddenly it's wrong and 'Uraume is actually a child!' literally what.
I think a part of it is Ume being confirmed amab and homophobic jerks can't sexualize Uraume anymore since they're 'a boy' to them so they defaulted to child.
Someone even called Uraume a Loli on TikTok, like you're delusional in what world is Uraume a Loli.
Anywhoo I adore Sukume. I don't usually do ship wars or ship discourse, I don't even care if people don't ship Sukume. I'm upset at people, innocent shippers having fun with a ship, getting called proshippers over a head canon they created.
It is NOT confirmed that Sukuna and Uraume are romantically involved. It is NOT confirmed that Uraume and Sukuna have a family dynamic. What IS confirmed is that Sukuna cares for Uraume, and chose to walk into the afterlife with them. That's it. They're friends as far as we know.

Edit: please reblog this with some information about demisexuality, I did make a mistake here by saying "Cove doesn't understand sexual attraction" he does, so my bad on that part
SO, I usually don't get too involved in fandom discourse, but with how Baxter fans are acting about the loss in the MDDB I snapped and decided we should have a talk.
(This turned out longer than expected so more under the cut. I BEG YOU TO READ THIS AND TOP UNDERSTAND WHERE THE ANGER AND FRUSTRATION COME FROM.
This is all over place, I tried my best to make this as comprehensible as possible)
Specifically I want to talk about this fandom obsession with him and how, is getting to a point where people are legitimately re-writing the game and erasing Cove existence to have this fucking man instead.
And look, I want to say that I get the appeal, I do, but I don't because Baxter's route is genuinely the worst written one out of the three; Compared to Cove's and Derek's (and Derek treatment in the fandom is a WHOLE OTHER ISSUE) is really not. I'm not here to judge one taste, I am here to tell you that your love for him is ridiculous.
It is genuinely ridiculous how much popular he has gotten and so many of you are forgetting about Cove and how important he is to the story, and generally how he is important to a lot of marginalized people. Some of you keep forgetting that Cove is autistic and demiseuxal and that is such a rare representation to see and it is already erased in the fandom (especially his autism), but now is even more erased because people are grabbing everything that makes Cove Cove, and are applying it to Baxter.
That is also not touching the fandom treatment of Derek and how overly criticize his route his compared to Baxter's, like...DEREK'S PARENTS ARE GETTING MORE SHIT THAT BAXTER CANONICAL BIGOTED PARENTS LOL, WHAT IS THIS?? Are you guys serious?? I've seen a fanfic with Irene being transphobic, why the fuck would someone write that when Baxter's mom is right there?
And Derek shitty treatment doesn't end here because people are straight up erasing the guy and not ?? talking about on how well written he is ?? He is not erased sorry, he's forgotten, no one cares about him. And when people care is a) rare or b) so criticize to the point where is no longer a criticism but just you bitching about it.
And it doesn't end there! Baxter is so talked about that people are more interested in him making a cameo in OL:N&F than the main characters of that game, THAT'S HOW THINGS HAVE GOTTEN, We've gotten to a point where people cares more about some white man than Qiu or Tamarack, which are way more interesting than him as characters but neither of them are white skinny man so lol, who cares about them.
AND TO TOP THIS SHITSHOW IT SOMEHOW GETS WORSE FROM HERE BECAUSE PEOPLE DON'T EVEN ARE CARE ABOUT THE INTERESTING ASPECTS OF BAXTER'S CHARACTER!!
Everyone is molding him like clay to create this, confident rich white boy when he is not?? and that's...the whole point of his route?? That he shouldn't need to put up this mask and to actually be a fucking human being?? THE FACT THAT HE IS A QUEER KID WHO HAD TO CUT OFF HIS PARENTS AND HAD TO BE INDEPENDENT FROM THEM AND LEARNING TO NOT DEPENDENT ON HIS PARENTS? (monetarily wise that is)
And like, people forget the man is queer, he is queer, he's a queer person who had to hide who he is to his parents and then had to cut them out for his own sanity, and no one mentions it.
The fandom as a whole erases queer identities, when this game is literally made FOR queer people don't you love it when straight people come into our spaces and erase our identities lol, that is a problem that more people should acknowledge, alongside the fact that Baxter's stans have taken over this safe space, overtook the main love interest, and ignore the genuine interesting aspects of Baxter's character to make him their own little doll they can play with and not appreciate a guy who is trying to learn how to stop being that mask everyone in the fandom has fallen over.
And I know, I know , I will get shit for daring to go against your favorite white boy, but consider that some of us played this game because an autistic character was in it, consider that this game is queer friendly and the fandom is also erasing that queerness to make horny fan fiction**, consider that some of us fond comfort in Derek and Cove's story and now we see everyone overtaking their stories by a white boy (that you can find in every other game), consider that his talk is tiring, consider also the fact that Baxter is technically queer and no one ever talks about it, consider that this game was a safe space for marginalized people and now it no longer feels that way
.
.
.
**with horny fanfiction I mean people re-writing Cove whole personality (and sexuality if we're being honest here) and making him this...horny big man when...he is not? He got stressed out by simply having to share a bed with MC, he's extremely shy around the subject of sex and he gets incredibly nervous about it.
I personally think that is due of both his queerness and autism (and yeah his personality, but autism affects ones personality so lol, sue me) since demisexuality means he genuinely doesn't understand how people can feel sexual attraction, and mixing that with autism means he probably doesn't understand the SOCIAL pressure around sex and having sex.
Granted that's speculation on my part but as someone who is (probably) autistic and asexual I can tell that, at least a majority feels this way and Cove is literally is the type to have this kind of mentality, he does not understand how Baxter can flirt with him after mere seconds of knowing each other

hey so i’m new to the community fandom and i really love trobed. i was wondering what was your trobed centric episode masterlist like? or if it’s possible, is there a way to send me the post? sorry i’m new to tumblr so i’m still learning how this app works. if you see this, thanks :)
hi, welcome! I've found that community tumblr is probably my favorite fandom space I've ever been involved in, and I hope you've had a good experience so far. I totally get the New App Learning Curve thing, I'm historically very shit at learning how to use new apps, even though I'm "young" (20), but I eventually got it and you will too, Trust 👍👍👍
anyway, Yes one of the first things I did on here after joining was make a trobed-centric episode masterlist for someone who was asking lmfao. since it was one of the First things I did there's some formatting and other things I'd do differently now, and I've actually been looking for an excuse to go ahead and get that done, so. here we go.
the trobed-centric episode masterlist (revamped)
1x05: advanced criminal law
plot B
abed takes the "friends mess with each other" rule too far; he creates a whole fake language and spends a lot of money on trying to convince troy that he is an alien
"from now on, abed, friends don't mess with each other"
(this is the first time they do their signature handshake)
1/5 gayness, pretty platonic
1x10: environmental science
plot B
it's the "somewhere out there" episode what more do I need to say
3/5 gayness, something's happening fs
1x11: the politics of human sexuality
plot C
abed keeps beating troy in athletic competitions, making troy feel threatened. he eventually admits that abed is the better athlete and they make up
2/5 gayness, pretty platonic but it has its moments
1x22: the art of discourse
plot C
troy and abed work to complete abed's list of quintessential freshman year of college experiences list
2/5 gayness, they repeatedly put completing the list above looking cool in front of women
1x25: pascal's triangle revisited
plot C
troy is moving out of his dad's house and wants to move in with abed, but abed says no because he's afraid being that close and spending that much time together will result in constant annoyance, and will destroy their friendship
troy realizes that "too much of a good thing can be bad" and instead agrees to move in with pierce
1/5 gayness
2x02: accounting for lawyers
part of plot A
jeff gets sucked back into his old life as he reconnects with alan, a coworker from his old law firm. troy, abed, and annie try to gather proof that jeff's friend is the one who got him fired in the first place
more trobedison centric, and is actually the first episode where the three of them are established as a Trio™
"all I heard was suck" "YOU CHLOROFORMED THE JANITOR" "I usually have one foot out of reality and even I'm freaking out right now"
1/5 gayness, pretty platonic. they're the sillies ever I love trobedison
2x06: epidemiology
part of plot A
it's the zombie episode, come ON
trobed have coordinating costumes but troy bails during the party because he doesn't want to look lame and nerdy in front of women, which hurts abed's feelings
abed sacrifices himself to save troy once they are the last two standing during the "rabies pathogen" breakout
"I love you" "I know" (oh my GODDD sedate me)
5/5 gayness. you get it.
2x09: conspiracy theories and interior design
plot B
the original blanket fort 💯💯💯
2/5 gayness, just guys bein silly (and in love???)
2x15: early 21st century romanticism
plot B
troy and abed fall for the same girl and decide to take her to the valentine's dance together, after which she can decide which one of them she wants to date
she picks troy, but troy gets upset that she didn't pick abed (because why wouldn't she pick abed, he's so cool) and breaks it off almost immediately
I"happy valentine's day" "it is now"
5/5 gayness jesus christ this one is INSANE
2x18: custody law and eastern european diplomacy
plot B
britta likes troy and abed's new friend, lukka, who she finds out is a literal war criminal. she keeps this information from troy and abed because she doesn't want to ruin their friendship with him, but they find out eventually
2/5 gayness they're attached at the hip in this one
2x19: critical film studies
random moments
this episode is more focused on jeff and abed, but there's a lot of classic Troy Gets Jealous™ moments so I decided to include it. plus the end tag is them randomly having dinner together at the fancy restaurant (a date 😔)
basically troy is afraid that jeff is a cooler friend to abed than him
3/5 gayness even though they barely interact, troy is so silly
2x20: competitive wine tasting
part of plot B
I almost didn't include this one, and it's not even on my original list, but whatever
troy pretends to be traumatized, originally to seem less shallow in his acting class, but he keeps it going in order to attract britta. he tells abed about it and abed Does Not Like That At All
"troy. nothing good can come of this"
I wouldn't call abed being jealous a Rare Occurrence but he generally conceals it way better than troy does
2/5 gayness, could be interpreted as abed just worried about relationships forming under false pretense, but to Me he's jealous
2x22: applied anthropology and culinary arts
plot C
pierce buys the rights to troy and abed's handshake (a la Indecent Proposal) which "corrupts" it
"pierce tainted our special handshake with his blood money and now we can't get the magic baaaack :((((("
eventually they do indeed get the magic back
3/5 gayness idk there's something about the way they interact in this one that is inexplicably gay to me lmao
3x01: biology 101
plot C plus random moments
"speaking of figuring things out, me and abed have an announcement" "..." "troy and I are living together :D"
cougartown gets moved to midseason, then cougarton abbey ends after 6 episodes, abed's routine keeps getting thrown off, and troy is just extremely supportive and protective throughout
4/5 gayness troy loves him a lot!!!!!!
3x03: remedial chaos theory
random moments
(I know this ep is listed as 3x04 on streaming services but in canon it takes place here and on the dvds it's listed as 3x03. there's a joke about it in the episode too if you didn't know. anyway)
"troy and abed's new apartment!!!" "bienvenido a la casa chez trobed!" "wanna stay up all night talking in our bunk beds?"
all their pictures on the wall and their matching suits lol
the end tag "evil troy and evil abed" & troy's soft "what's wrong :("
3/5 gayness they're lowkey married your honor
3x05: horror fiction in seven spooky steps
random moments
troy's whole story he tells where they Literally become attached at the hip
"my partner"
troy dancing while abed's humming daybreak
2/5 gayness
3x06: advanced gay
plot B
troy deciding whether he wants to do plumbing or air conditioning and deciding all he really wants to do is watch tv with abed
gay symbolism? gay symbolism? gay symbolism?
4/5 gayness mostly for the conversation at the hawthorne wipes gathering. I could write an essay on just that
3x07: studies in modern movement
plot A
annie moves in with troy and abed. very trobedison centric
"kiss me woodsman troy!"
3/5 gayness once again casually in love they're soulmates your honor
3x09: foosball and nocturnal vigilantism
plot B
annie breaks abed's $200 special edition dark knight dvd set on accident, trobedison shenanigans ensue yippee!!!
"awww is that the grappling hook I got you for christmas???"
3/5 gayness for the same reasons as before
3x10: regional holiday music
part of plot A
literally putting this on here just because of the christmas infiltration rap (and baby boomer santa)
3/5 gayness it's glee club what can you do
3x11: contemporary impressionists
plot A
(once again, I know this episode is listed as 3x12 on streaming services, but in canon it's supposed to chronologically be here, and is listed as 3x11 on the dvds)
the study group helps abed pay off his debts to a celebrity impersonator website by playing characters at a bar mitzvah (after troy scolds them for trying to ground abed in reality)
they have an argument at the end ugh
3/5 gayness troy loves abed a lot and abed doesn't realize that he's doing something wrong
3x12: urban matrimony and the sandwich arts
plot C
(see the above disclaimer about episode order)
troy and abed decide to be normal for shirley's wedding rehearsal
troy and abed being normal 🤝
4/5 gayness they blow off a girl to be weird again
3x13: digital exploration of interior design
plot C
blanket fort: redux (oh god)
vice dean laybourne escalates what started as a minor disagreement in order to drive a wedge between troy and abed. it works
5/5 gayness, if a sitcom doesn't have the two codependent fanonical gays go through an unnecessarily dramatic "break up" then I don’t want it
3x14: pillows and blankets
plot A
🎶troy and abed are in conflict🎶 *cries*
pillow fort vs. blanket fort
they eventually make up but not before they hurt each others' feelings a Lot
5/5 gayness the dramatics jesus christ
3x16: virtual systems analysis
random moments
so this episode is more focused on abed and annie, and troy and abed actually don't Technically interact with each other very much at all, but. you know
abed kinda freaks out when troy and britta go on a date because it "messes with the fabric of the group" (🤨 I know what you are)
troy calls annie to "check on abed" boy you are on a date with a woman
4/5 gayness just from subtext you get it
3x17: basic lupine urology
random moments
troy and abed play detective as they try to figure out who sabotaged the group's biology project
"we can't both do the zinger"
4/5 gayness no explanation
3x19: curriculum unavailable
random moments
the study group is expelled from greendale and abed gets arrested for spying on campus, so he's supposed to have a psychological evaluation
troy is just very protective of him in this episode, plus the flashback clip where he and Annie are comforting him as he's freaking out about daylight savings
"our adventures are VERY manly"
4/5 gayness
3x21: the first chang dynasty
random moments
oof baboof with you two! (all the plumber shenanigans are hilarious)
mostly putting this one on here for the goodbye scene at the end of the episode, though. god
"he said, 'I know you hate when people do this in movies.' sorry I got emotional"
3x22: introduction to finality
plot B
abed "goes crazy" without troy (who's off at a/c repair school)
when troy comes back he prioritizes abed over britta (who he supposedly has romantic feelings for)
"I miss abed so much" "you're afraid you'll go crazy without troy"
4/5 gayness one could say they're a little codependent
4x03: conventions of space and time
plot A
troy gets jealous of (read: goes "psycho girlfriend on") abed's new inspector spacetime superfan friend toby
britta, even as troy's literal girlfriend, calls abed troy's boyfriend and supports troy through the whole thing
"for the first time in my long history of being locked inside things, I knew someone would come" let me just put my head through my wall really quick
5/5 gayness even though troy has a whole gf. that's how gay this episode is
4x11: basic human anatomy
plot A
troy and abed pretend to switch bodies, like in freaky friday, in order to help troy process his feelings about his relationship with britta
5/5 gayness holy SHIT y'all. I could write thousands of words on this episode. it is so hard to justify troy's actions in this one without reading him as a closeted gay person not lying
5x03: basic intergluteal numismatics
random moments
including this one because of how abed comforts troy and pushes him around in a wheelchair for the entire episode
3/5 gayness it's the casual married-ness again smh
5x04: cooperative polygraphy
random moments
this is another one I didn't include on my original list but I decided fuck it
the bit uncovering the actual origin of their patented handshake is so funny "I can't even look at you right now" "then you should know I'm crying"
also just the. look on abed's face when troy agrees to go on the trip at the end. "cool. cool cool cool." "that's a lie" UGHHHHH
4/5 gayness again. so typical
5x05: geothermal escapism
plot A
do I need to say a word
ouch ouch ouch OUCH
5/5 gayness especially the deleted dialogue from the last scene (I've posted it before but lmk if you don't know what I'm talking about. disclaimer it makes me want to launch myself off the empire state building)
alright. there it is folks. I was going to make another subsection of other random iconic trobed moments and cite the episodes they're from but basically every single episode has at least one, so that list would be Way too long to qualify as a supplement to this one lmao. however! if you have a Trobed Moment™ stuck in your head (or any Moment for that matter) and you can't remember which episode it's from feel free to ask me, I'm confident that my internal community database will be able to Remind You. anyway. hope this was helpful. bye

i was thinking about that ask i received the other day and how uncharacteristically upset the topic had made me when i usually just think "mh. gross!" and move on, and after mulling it over a while i realized it wasn't about the topic at all, it was the ask itself that freaked me out. i've mentioned sporadically before (for obvious reasons lol) that i used to be involved in fandom discourse when i was younger and that!! fucked me up quite a lot. between exacerbating my ocd and straight up getting cyber stalked (i almost feel guilty using that word, like i don't deserve it but. yeah that is 100% what happened to me), the topic is something I have very complex and personal opinions on but that i hate talking about in public because it still sets off my fight or flight response.
i know some people in the fandom are like "let me know if i ever rb someone who wrote/drew gross stuff" and that's entirely their choice and i respect it. but for the record, i am not one of these people. please, for the love of god, i am asking this genuinely do NOT come into my DMs about this, I don't want to know. assume I'm either living in blissful ignorance or my blacklist already covers me quite nicely & i wanna keep it that way. i vastly prefer the discomfort of stumbling into something unprepared and deciding what to do about it on my own, to the utter pit of dread i get whenever i open a message that starts with "hey just so you know-". i have blocked multiple people in the past over it. i WILL block more. be warned.
[note. this doesn't apply to people who have either hurt or behaved inappropriately with other members of the fandom, or spread bigotry and discrimination like racists and transphobes. please do let me know in those cases]
does this make sense? idk I'm kinda feverish you guys figure it out. I'm going to sleep.

Note
if you don't mind me asking, who are your favorite romantic relationship's couples in books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series (can be canon or non-canon)? Why you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before......Thanks....
When I'm hyperfixating on a special interest, I find it really hard to remember anything that previously held my attention lol — so I'm struggling to answer this question, anon! I'm not a huge shipper usually, and I'm incredibly unenthusiastic about ship wars so I generally don't get involved.
That said, there are tons of ships I like in Jujutsu Kaisen. SatoSugu and Megumi are pretty much all I post about on here, but I've gained a few followers recently so it's probably worth saying because I've seen a lot of ship discourse elsewhere in the fandom recently:
If you're reading this and you really hate any of the ships I mention in this post, feel free to unfollow if it's that big a deal to you.
I'm really not interested in arguing about ships — because it just isn't that deep, I have limited free time to give to fandom and I'd rather spend it on things I love — so please don't get into that with me. However, if it's not a big deal to you, great to have you around! ♥
So, Jujutsu Kaisen ships I like below the cut:
Obviously, SatoSugu* has really captured my imagination. I don't think I've ever shipped anything as hard as I ship those two, but I talk about them all the time so I won't go into any more detail.
Other than that, I like GojoHime which I know is blasphemy for a SatoSugu shipper (I'm kidding, there's a bunch of us who ship both) but I don't think one has to preclude the other (after all, Gojo has two hands 👀). I've written two canonverse fics for GojoHime, and I've gently implied a former romantic relationship between SatoSugu in both.
I think lots of people read too deeply into the "she hates him" thing. Is he a bit of a dick to her? Absolutely, but treating Utahime like she's just a victim of the terrible Gojo Satoru takes away from her character — because she gives as good as she gets! I adore the contradiction in how she presents herself as this prim and proper miko, but she's actually a little firecracker who loses her temper easily and throws things at people and drinks heavily. Don't take that away from her, it's what makes her fun!
To me, it's obvious that their dynamic is designed to provide comic relief, but they trust each other when it comes down to it. In fact, I'd argue their bickering is evidence of that — if you're a polite person, you don't bicker with people you're not comfortable with. More than that, I like how Utahime is set up as a bit of a foil to Gojo. It's been said before, but there's a poetry in her technique making the 'strongest' stronger, especially considering that he goes to this character he's historically called weak to ask for help in the biggest fight of his life. Delicious!
Beyond that, I casually enjoy a bunch of other JJK ships. I don't actively seek out or create content for them, but I enjoy some of the art and fic when I come across it. Namely:
SaShiSu, in any configuration. SatoShoko is appealing to me for reasons I touched on in response to a question about Gojo's relationship with Shoko. SuguShoko is hot, simply because I think both characters are hot and they look hot together lol. I can even get behind poly SaShiSu!
OkkoFushi, because of Megumi's ~one line~ about respecting his senpai. It's essentially a crack ship, but I have the silliest little headcanon that Gojo brought Megumi to meet the first years sometime during JJK 0 and Megumi developed his first crush — see this adorable art for reference.
ItaFushi, ItaJun, and YutaMaki because they're all harmless and adorable.
GojoKen, because I love the potential for toxic angst.
KenTen, because "goodbye, old friend" — I'm sorry, what??? 👀
ShokoHime and ChosoYuki because they're all sexy as hell.
NobaMai, because they have sizzling chemistry.
KiraKari and MechaMiwa, because they're both canon as far as I'm concerned.
ShiuToji, because they're "business partners" — sure, guys!!
NanaGo, purely for the cute single dads art.
SukuGo, but only in a non-canon setting. They should have been besties in canon though 😔
Finally, the controversial one. Sukuna can stay the hell away from Megumi in canon (🥲) but I quite like SukuFushi in a specific AU setting — especially if Yuji and Sukuna are brothers in it! I have a soft spot for the Itadori twins, and I'm into the idea of big bully Sukuna meeting his match in his brat of a brother's quiet best friend with the deceptively sharp tongue (and knuckles).
However, I personally find that a lot of people mischaracterise Megumi in his ships and take away the aspects of his character that I really love (come on, he beat people the hell up at school!) so I'm not super into Megumi ships in general, despite the fact that he's my best boy.
As you can see, I'm really not that fussy about ships. In the past, I've definitely read fic featuring a side pairing that I'm not super into, but it won't stop me reading a good fic if there's a pairing I don't like in it. Sometimes, if it's well-written, I might even end up a fan!
Outside of JJK, there really isn't much. I don't follow many other animanga, but I think AkiAngel is a gorgeous ship and EreMika is cute although a bit bland. I think that's it though... Sorry this wasn't really what you asked for, but thank you for the question! ♥
*I just use the popular ship name, but I don't have any strong preferences when it comes to sexual dynamics so the name order isn't important to me — that goes for all the ships I like!

Who do you find the easiest & hardest to write as and/or what is the hardest topic for you to write about? Your page covers a wide variety of topics so I'm interested in what you enjoy writing most.
Tumblr media
Easiest to write would probably be anything that doesn't take too much brain power. For example, if I'm just being excited about new upcoming Twst content, that's pretty easy for me to keyboard smash about. I don't like to do this often though, as I feel it can get too chaotic and difficult for readers to follow along with what I'm trying to convey. In terms of creative writing, I find fluff (especially character dialogue) very easy to write because you don't really need to focus on weaving intricate plots or complex feelings that may come with fics covering darker or more serious subject matter. However, I do really like writing emotionally challenging or angst fics or analyses that focus on inner turmoil and character growth; those just take significantly more time and energy to capture the vibes I'm looking for. (Just because something is easy to write doesn't necessarily mean that's what I most enjoy writing.)
Hardest for me would be action scenes (for creative writing). There's a certain rhythm to fights and it's hard to keep that pace. Go too fast, and the scene seems short/the fight is seen as not serious. Go too slow, and the scene seems dragged out/the fight is taking forever. Action scenes also require a lot of usage of verbs; it takes a particularly skilled hand to not constantly repeat "punch", "kick", etc. All the usual culprits. I admire anyone who can bang out an extended action scene like it's nothing, haha!
I also find writing my own theories hard, but it's for a very personal reason. I would consider myself very pragmatic, so little details that other people could easily blow into a crack theory, I perceive as "there was literally no meaning behind that and you're overthinking it". It also takes me a long time to gather the information I need, since I like to back up my theories with hard facts (like voice lines). It just takes so much effort to put together! It's easier for me if people come with popular fandom theories already prepared and ask me about those, since there would already be a pool of evidence for me to refer to. It cuts my research time in half, essentially.
Another thing that's challenging for me to write are replies to questions that involve real-world concerns. For example, I have been asked numerous times to weigh in on fandom discourse as well as to discuss potentially sensitive subject matter. The thing is, people often come to me already thinking one way about the topic. The challenge for me, then, is researching these topics and then conveying the information from as many sides and with as much nuance as possible. Sometimes I also offer my own opinion, but ultimately I would like to just provide the information and then allow others to come to a conclusion for themselves, or at least offer a counter to preexisting sentiments, to show there are other ways of thinking or seeing the same issue. I get anxious when others put such immense weight on what my take is, so I feel as though I have to be especially mindful about how I phrase things. I'm not an expert on everything and I often have to remind people of that 💦
Of course, there are also those few topics that make me uncomfortable so I choose to not respond to them altogether. I try to not completely discourage “dark” subjects entirely though; I feel it is important to discuss them from an analytical standpoint so we can better understand them, as well as ourselves.

Do you know of another community that's as tight-knit and involved as the Käärijä tag? This is a genuine question, bc I'm fairly new to this site, and I don't think I've seen anything like it so far. Like, yes, there are the huge tags with millions of followers and thousands of notes. And then there's other big tags where surprisingly the posts get almost no engagement. But in this community it feels like there are so many people who actually speak to one another. People actually interact with one another and share thoughts & feelings like a huge group of friends. I was just wondering if you'd consider this a regular occurence on tumblr, bc it seems so rare & beautiful.
Hey anon! I think I'm the right person for that because I've made my first tumblr blog in 2009 (it's still online, weirdly enough!), so I've been here a while.
This is the first time I've seen that
I've lurked in many fandoms on tumblr. I've never seen that sense of community in a tag EVER. Usually tags are a bit of you dump your shit there so other people find it and then you forget about it. Tags, in this sense, are a search tool
The only other fandom I've been that active in was Osomatsu-san, but it was filled with drama and discourse. So call out posts and people deactivating was frequent. Not ideal to build a community
This is the first time I've seen a tag used as a place rather than just the tool it is. The Käärijä tag feels like a market place in a town where you can hang out with other people. I think that we're just the right amount of deranged active people for it to work. Not too many that it's impossible to get to know each other, but not too little to not have an active tag. We're in the right age range to know what actually matters and what is just silly discourse that shouldn't be touched. We're all weird girls and gays united around this gremlin of a man, who loved his chaotic energy in the first place.
We had all the right ingredients to make this work, creating this weird community here.
I'm not saying that it's unique on tumblr. There are probably many other communities just like ours! I know that my best friend's roommate is in one as well in the more fnaf side of stuff. But this is very, very uncommon
I love you all so much I have no words

I am Neutral on "shipcourse"
I hate like rehashing this discourse because it centers around a lot of trauma for me as a human trafficking survivor and as someone who was on the internet way too young and got harassed by people in mass droves online but I just wanted to make a post about it.
I am not antiship.
I am not proship.
I consider myself media literate and critical (profic but not proship)
I'm going to list off issues I have with both communities and I'll also mention aspects I have found good about both, then explain why I label myself now as neutral and kinda cringe at my past as an antishipper. I may not be proship myself but I'm still in a sense... An ex-anti.
Issues with Antishippers
Literal puritanism. Like full on "well you shouldn't have been wearing that if you didn't want to be assaulted" type puritanism.
Anti-kink stances that mirror radfem ideology
Anti-sex in general
The inability to just block people and curate their own spaces
Cross tagging so much crosstaging
Actual harassment especially of children
Inability to accept nuance or understand that there may be more than one reason for someone to be proship
Encouragement to emotionally self harm and not distance yourself from things that are openly triggering.
Going into people's asks or DMs whining about who they follow
Labeling anyone who doesn't engage with the discourse as proship or proship defenders and then in turn "pedophiles/pedo defenders"
Allowing minors in their spaces and sending porn or barley censored porn to talk about how "gross" it is (THIS IS STILL SENDING A CHILD PORN LEAVE THEM ALONE YOU'RE COMMITTING A CRIME)
Sharing around the content they're against to get people riled up instead of trying to be helpful to people wanting to not be triggered by seeing it.
Issues With Proshippers
Anger and lashing out at people who are not as sexual as them. "PURITEENSSS RAHHH" When that is a literal child who probably doesn't want to have sex because they're a CHILD. Maybe children are going to have more likely innate disgust at sexual topics and shouldn't be involved in the discourse?
The inability to block people and curate their own spaces (oh look both sides have this issue)
Crosstaging all the fucking time... (Both sides again)
Actual harassment to the point it's a joke they claim to be anti-harassment (Literally some of the biggest accounts that are "proship" oriented are focused on harassing and bullying random people online and usually children :/)
Inability to accept nuance or understand that there may be more than one reason for someone to be antiship (it's both again)
Encouragement to emotionally self harm and not distance yourself from things that are openly triggering. (Yeah both do this)
Labeling anyone and everyone who doesn't have exactly 100% the same opinions "alt right" or calling it "Nazi rhetoric" or screaming about them being puritanical even over slight disagreements
Get offended at the idea of criticizing any media because how dare you have opinions on media I guess... "No more fun if your fun slightly annoys me and makes me upset even though I claim I only care about harm!"
Also allowing minors into their space and/or in mass speaking to children on porn accounts for having "the wrong opinion™" with their porn accounts
Supporting actual child grooming and predation in proship spaces and defending 20+ year olds speaking in private DMs to a 13- year old about the ethics of pornography and trying to get the little kid to like a certain kind of porn (This is about something I saw proshippers come out in droves to defend in the Obey me fandom)
Sharing around the posts of the people they don't like that are against them and riling everyone up and purposefully triggering others for the sake of discourse (similar to antis)
So yeah both sides have a child abuse problem, a self harm problem, issues with etiquette, and issues with making any form of cohesive point. Now this isn't to say that all these issues are always in every single individual anti/proshipper. Everyone is different, some people will engage in one way or another but I want to be clear this is about what I've seen online from these groups by and large. It's a cluster fuck of abuse hurled at one another and it's disgusting. Children shouldn't ever be involved in shipcourse and I'm sorry if it offends kids but this is for their safety. We don't let kids in any other NSFW communities but people will pretend that doesn't apply to the EROTIC FANFICTION AND FANWORK DISCOURSE.
I literally cannot stress enough that this is about primarily erotic fanfiction. Yes there's stuff that goes beyond and tends into actual media analysis type conversations and ethics of fiction, which I love, but most of this is about random pornography.
Am I anti this nebulous concept or shipping that nobody can agree upon and actually doesn't matter because anti/pro ship has nothing to do with wether or not you ship things in general- or am pro this nebulous concept of shipping that has no actual cohesive agreed upon definition?
I have met wonderful people on all sides of this debate. I have met horrific people on all sides of this debate. But most of all everyone who has ever spoken on this debate has been prone to completely missing the point of what someone has to say. If you want to have big boy philosophical discussion about the ethics or morality or impact of fiction and fictional content then let's have that outside of these parameters. I love discussing media and I love having in-depth discussions about how people interpret it how it impacts the world reasons people are for or against certain stories or ways of depicting things but I am not loving discussing whether or not Henry over there in the corner is allowed to make his little dolls kiss because one's a human and the other is a monster who has an unreasonable life span.
I'm neutral ship because of these parameters in my own opinions
I don't really give a flying fuck about what someone ships. If I don't like it I block them and move on. I don't harass them it's easy.
I don't support shipping of anyone real people without their explicit consent because it is a form of sexual harassment. Something that I have endured in real life before. I believe it should be moderated and should be removed when non-consensual as it is sexual misconduct and harms the victims.
I think some types of content needs to be properly tagged especially those of triggering natures. I believe ideally those who do not properly tag and categorize these works should have theirs striken down on online platforms or automatically corrected to the right settings as part of moderation to allow people to more easily avoid triggers (IDEALISTICALLY I am aware this will likely not occur or get misused by bigoted people such as current issues with websites marking trans people as inherently sexual when we are not)
I am against all forms of harassment though I can understand why and how it can occur in many cases and have been guilty of this behavior in the past. I believe people should be able to grow and change and move past this.
I do not feel comfortable with a large amount of the content that is common from proshippers as it is triggering to me. I think if they keep it to themselves and don't force people to look at shit or mistag it it's more so okay.
I do not think children should EVER be involved in erotica discourse and it is so fucked that they have been. It messed me up as a kid and it's gonna mess others up
I think if you're going to make a certain kind of content you have to accept people thinking you're weird or gross, same with sharing said content. People will be grossed out and scared of me liking Gore and Guro. That's okay, they're allowed to be freaked out and if someone can't be friends with me because of that fact, then clearly we weren't compatible as friends anyways.
Censorship is necessary in some circumstances this especially applies to works of propaganda. I find the idea that your stance on fanfiction has any reflection of how you feel about broader media to be foolish. I don't care about your weird Hisoka X Reader fanfiction that's morally ambiguous I care about the effects of things like "The Birth Of A Nation" which was a propagandistic film that spurred the resurgence of the KKK. I think that things that will cause harm in the present should be sealed away in historical foundations or museum vaults for some time before being allowed again to the general public for historical purposes. (ONLY in cases where a work will cause direct harm like say Mien Kamph by Adolf Hitler)
I don't feel comfortable being associated with anti or pro ship people
I believe that writing specific stereotypes into your fanfiction about minorities is a reflection of your own bigotry and unless it's written for the purposes of discussion of such themes or as satire or parody of said bigotries there is in fact a reason said work can be deemed to be racist/homophobic/transphobic/sexist or whatever else it may be
You can have weird fucked up kinks. Your kink is not my kink and that's okay. What's not okay is to try and coerce people into said kinks or get them to engage with you when they clearly are against it. If someone doesn't want to do an erotic roleplay around the themes of aggressive sadism and masochism then don't force it- find a topic you can both feel comfortable on.
At the core of it I am: anti-harassment, media critical, believe in some level of censorship for the safety of the public from extremist ideological propagandistic bigotry, see that fiction affects reality and wish to discuss the influence of media on society, and pro the creation of dark and fucked up media that is telling a story of genuine value.
I may also be disgusted by certain types of porn but as long as it's legal and not victimizing anyone or anything- people should be able to make it and be on their own. But also you gotta accept stigma comes with it. And if you make content centering a paraphilia then don't be shocked when you're called a paraphile.

This may be a touch grass moment but i also am not sharing this on my dash :D
It's surreal people falling for Deadpool & wolverine queerbaiting while at the same time hating that people ship two male best friends.
Cause like d&w point is that the are bros but... also....maybe... they are like bros who fuck. And the whole marketing was around that and like it feels like everyone treats it as a haha moment.
While when someone is shipping two men who are 'best friends' suddenly its a reach and you're looking too much into things. And queercoding is not a thing anymore suddenly.
--
Well...
Deadpool has long been able to get away with canonically referring to the homoeroticism of comic books because he's played for laughs and he's always meta and weird. I haven't seen the latest one, but having Deadpool movies do yet more of this is no surprise.
Queercoding is indeed a thing. If you watch The Celluloid Closet, it talks a lot about the history of this and the kinds of either subcultural markers or negative stereotypes that are usually involved.
But most epic, heroic male best friends are intended as non-romantic. They don't have nods to cis gay culture like the things discussed in The Celluloid Closet. They don't engage with common negative stereotypes seen in villains. They just care deeply about each other.
Fandom reads this as significant subtext. In a BL manga, it would mean something. In cis gay culture, the most you'll usually get is "Yeah, they're hot, and they should fuck about it".
How we read subtext—whether there is subtext—depends heavily on your exact culture and discourse community. (Like, the actual meaning of "discourse community", not the fandom wank meaning.) It's easy to think someone is reaching when they say something has subtext or is near-canonical if you come from a totally different culture with a different set of assumptions. That can be true even if you like the idea of a ship or wish it would become canon.
If someone enjoys Deadpool's gay chicken vibes but yells at Stucky shippers, they're a jerk. They're not necessarily a hypocrite though.

Why making any concessions to puritan rhetoric is a bad idea
(note for the uninitiated: 'anti' is short for 'anti-shipper', 'anti-ship', or 'anti-fan'; in this context it refers to people who get very vocally militant about opposing dark kinks/problematic ships in media, especially creative fandom spaces. Proship is simply the opposite, people who vocally believe people should be free to make/indulge in whatever as long as a line is drawn between fiction and reality.)
(note 2: this was written for cohost, i cbf rewording it lol)
I very often see people - both websites and individuals - making a concession to the people who come up to them yelling about problematic kinks and guilt by association and 'why didn't you block this person' blah blah blah. It's happened with a few BNFs (big-name fans) in the UTDR scene lately, I've seen it from artists I respect, from friends, hell I used to be in this camp myself. And, of course, it happened to this website about a year back, and the conversation has come up again recently due yet another tumblr exodus.
It makes sense. The most common stuff that antis go after is stuff very few people are into: lolisho/cub, ferals, heavy gore, heavy noncon. It's niche, the real-world applications are unquestionably vile, it's very easy to just say 'I also find this icky regardless of whether I really believe that all people into it are secret criminals, so, I'll just block the people who they say are bad and move on.' I can't tell you the amount of times I've seen someone respond to proship/antiship discourse with "I'm an adult with a job." Going to bat for this content is high risk, low reward. You're not going to make friends, you're going to lose them. YOU WILL LOSE SUBSCRIBER, etc. As a result of all this it's very easy to assume that anyone defending it must be into it.
But I'm not. I'm a writer who often deals with darker subjects, but most of the first-on-the-list anti stuff, I'm not into at all. I'm not into ferals or gore period, noncon I like purely as character exploration, lolisho I can enjoy from the perspective of what I call 'trauma repair.' There's probably a proper term for it. But the tl;dr is I've never been actively aroused by any of these things, not in fantasy and especially not otherwise. Whenever I write them, it's just fascination or character analysis. Whenever I have a 'this character can be any age you want' fic, in my head, they're 18+. Writing noncon is a weird challenge for me because I'm constantly battling with the alternate ending in my head where the victim breaks free, beats the shit out of their captor, etc. This isn't me trying to claim virtue through this, just stating my position.
So… Why do I go to bat for these things? Why do I get annoyed when websites block lolisho, when artists have 'proship DNI' in their bio, etc? It's lost me a couple friends, it's certainly cost me followers and general reach, it's gotten me blocked by countless people I respected the work of. It's earned me a few callout posts, multiple with 1k+ followers, and one particular obsessed stalker who tells anyone who will listen that I actually groomed a child (despite all evidence otherwise). It's caused me a really significant amount of trouble. Why die on this hill?
The answer's kind of simple, when you boil it down: fictional fantasies either affect reality, or they don't. This is why I go to bat for things I'm not into, but it's also why whenever you see someone making concessions to antis, it's never enough. Cohost banned lolisho last year (I believe it's still banned?? Unclear), but the antis still make constant callout posts about this site and its owners. Some of the team have even gone out of their way to state very firmly that they're against these things, they've gone above and beyond just 'ban the bad thing' and broadcast their views about the morality of it. You'll frequently see artists write some huge apology or clarification when a callout post hits, usually involving some variation of 'I do not condone x y z and think it's disgusting.'
It's never enough.
But it makes sense, when you think about it. By drawing a line, you have essentially agreed with the core angle of the people screaming at you: that a fictional fantasy affects reality. That it's dangerous. You will, by necessity, now have people start to work down the list. Incest, ferals, gore, noncon, sure. Any relationship with any kind of skewed power dynamic. Sibling-coded, minor-coded, postminor nonsense. All of these things are less easily agreed to than lolisho, I've seen countless porn artists concede with the core idea that lolisho is immoral, then they act like it's unreasonable that people just keep going until they're being told that a knot on a furry is bestiality, or a 23 year old dating an autistic 21 year old is pedophilia. These are genuine examples of things I've seen people dogpiled for. Seriously look up "postminor" if you want to see how bad this can get, on top of being absurd it's one-for-one the kind of gross ableist shit that Autism Speaks gets into.
But YOU AGREED TO THEM. You agreed with the core concept, that the fantasy must reflect reality. Of course they're going to keep demanding more; by the logic you used to agree with them, you are doing immoral things. If fictional lolisho is immoral, so are the rest of them. It's way easier to look at your average pic on baraag or inkbunny and go 'oh, eugh, vile,' but at the end of the day the cutesy played-for-laughs sleeping kiss, the dubcon bondage that you don't call dubcon, or the meet-cute where they're a bit too drunk, they're all immoral fantasies.
That's not even to get into non-sexual stuff. If the lolisho fantasy is wrong, so is running down civilians in GTA. Suddenly your notifs are full of 16 year-old Jack Thompsons with rainbow flags in their bios.
This really is an all-or-nothing debate. If fictional fantasies affect reality, then even the immoral fantasies that you're personally comfortable with, the cutesy coy playful ones, must be immoral. If fictional fantasies don't affect reality, then even the ones that make you uncomfortable, the ones that have you scrambling to close your browser in case the feds are looking, must be fine.
It should have become very obvious over the last decade that you cannot fence-sit on this. There's a huge internal disagreement going on among progressive/queer/compassion-minded people, on whether these kind of things affect reality, or whether they don't. You can learn to apathetically dismiss stuff that squicks you, or you can learn to sanitize everything you ever make so there's not a trace of contentious theming left. Immoral fantasies are immoral, or only immoral actions are immoral.
You're going to have to pick one.

hi im so sorry to bring up relatively old drama but why am i getting dragged into the entire clique stuff 😭
i talk to exactly two people on here in any sort of consistent basis, only one of which is actually a writer - please try not to make any assumptions about me, especially when i try my best to keep to myself on here, i really do not like getting involved into any sort of discourse within fandoms, and i usually consider it a waste of time
if u would like to chat abt literally anything ever, my askbox is always open :) but please don't include me in things i have no business being mentioned in
anyway ! only posting this because a few comments on my ao3 fic (which . why are u mentioning this on a fic of mine 😭😭😭) rubbed me the wrong way . if u also have no clue what the clique stuff is, just like i didn't, then pls feel free to scroll 👐
thank u

I HEARD NORMAL FNAF SHIPS HCs!!!
Glamrock Fronnie (Glam freddy x bonnie): They are absolutely couple goals fr fr I always love the idea that they have a son(gregory) and doing their best to raise him. Glam Bonnie often gets himself into the most dumbest of situations and freddy just sighs while he replaces the # of days Bonnie has stayed out of trouble.
Hipporville (mr.hippo x orville): Mr.hippo loves to rants about so many things and orville just listens to all of it. They also have great communication skills even if Mr.hippo does most of the talking. Mr.Hippo especially loves to talk about orville to others whenever he can. They both love to travel and trying out new things.
Glittergolf (sun x monty): This is the first one where I actually thought "You know, What if these two kissed?" I will forever cherish this ship, tsams will never ruin it for me (I'll never ship those two in tsams) These two are just fucking chaos when they're together! They always hype each other up on anything except for competitions. They both would be so fucking competitive where they get so obsessed on winning that they insult/sabotage each other during games and if one them looses they get really salty (but they always make up after). I also like to have the dca as two separate beings so moon is usually just exploring the pizzaplex making friends meanwhile Glittergolf make out.
Also I wanna say that you are a really amazing and chill person! You absolutely make me feel more comfortable in this silly little fandom. I have scopophobia, it often makes it hard for me to have convo with others despite me sometimes wanting to, which is shitty but it is what it is. So I'm really thankful that you are able to make a safe space despite the assholes.
Also I wish you the best on fixing your sleep schedule, you silly trash goblin!

Hi Otter anon!
I love Fronnie they are THE husbands. They 100% adopt Gregory (after Bonnie gets fixed) and I love to think that Bonnie has phantom pains and Freddy massages them away. And yeah, Bonnie is forever in situations (tm).
THEY'RE SO CUTE! You're the second person to talk to me about them and I approve so hard they're the married old couple that's lived their whole lives together.
Most of my ships start with "What if they kissed" so I get that. (Or rather, what if they held hands, and it escalates from there). I bet Moon teases Sun about it 24/7. "The gator? The bar really isn't set high with you, is it Sunny?" (But in a playful way).
Ajdfklja;fsd thank youuu 🥺🥺🥺 I know that it has just been THE WEEK for this fucking fandom when it comes to discourse I'm somehow involved in and I don't know how many times I'm gonna apologize for even giving them a second glance, nonetheless INTERACTING with it. Holy fuck hindsight is 20/20 and I really wish I had just let them be angry in silence.
Also, I did fix my sleep schedule. And I am the trashiest of goblins, it's true.
