Hey, ten out of twelve isn't bad, all things considered! This very well could have gone down in October. Also, since it's February (March if you wanna be generous), does that mean everyone in Harugumi's slightly younger than their Year One ages now? Ack, timelines are confusing.

Izumi casually talking about how Yukio neglected her and following it up with "well, it was probably because he loved this theater so much!" is. Oh, girl. No wonder she snapped when Sakyo suggested he'd abandoned Mankai, because if he hadn't loved it, then why did she have to go through with that?

I'm not versed enough in Japanese particles but I recognize "daijoubu" and Tsuzuru watching this trainwreck unfold and saying something along the lines of "are you guys, like, okay?" is extremely funny.

Then we get to Sakuya and Masumi's family situations, which. From a meta perspective, it makes sense to want to give your minor protagonists the freedom that having parents limits. That's why the trope of "young protagonist in kid's spec fic media is conveniently an orphan" is so common. (was? I think it's becoming less common now.) The problem lies in the lack of willingness to follow through with the emotional conflict it creates, or resolve said conflict in a satisfying manner. Sure, I'm assuming they weren't starved or physically abused, but being treated like a burden when you're a child is still fucking traumatizing! Basically I think Izumi Sakuya and Masumi should start a union. And I'm glad later chapters go the reasonably more toned-down route of "my parents have a reasonable amount of trust in me to make these kinds of decisions".

Also, can we talk about Sakuya and Masumi, because they're one of my favorite brotps here. The way Sakuya appoints himself as Masumi's surrogate big brother? He's so eager to potentially share a room with him ;-;. (personally I hc that Ms. Sakuma was expecting another child before the accident or whatever killed them, so Sakuya's been a big brother without a younger sibling all this time </3)

Wow, that doesn't sound like a metaphor for anything! You're right, Izumi, why would you go the easy route of taking something prepackaged and guaranteed when a bunch of wildly different spices can create a delicious meal if you know how to utilize them right?

Also, oof. Citron's my second fave in Harugumi after Sakuya, but it's glaringly obvious how much of his character is rooted in orientalism. Sure, maybe it's an act, but why is he talking about how "shameful" showing skin is when his top is (conveniently for us) THAT low-cut.

On another note, I know people have pointed out his distaste for pig's feet as evidence for headcanoning him as Muslim, but I haven't seen anyone point out how he calls Veludo Way a "mecca" of theatre. Like yeah, mecca can just mean hub, but...why didn't they just say hub? Words Have Connotations. I'm not saying this coding is good or bad, it's just a neutral observation.

thanks to @pollenallergie i haven't stopped thinking about older!tom grant for days now, and while any fics i could write about him need to be put on the backburner for now (there's one that's been in the pipeline for a While now), here's some headcanons of my interpretation of what lil tommy g is like as an adult:

okay so tom's timeline post-canon:

after his lil summer gigs at the caravan park, he moved back up north to derby and got a job at a construction company that's owned by an old family friend, like his dad's childhood best friend. it was always a given, even when he wanted to pursue a life living down in cornwall, he just couldn't stop associating the whole place with ruth and heartbreak and all manner of things that weighed heavy on his heart. and fuck that, right? he's got his whole life ahead of him!

he spends his first few years as a legal adult the way all british lads do - by spending at least two nights a week at some kind of pub, bar or nightclub. he can pull, of course, but the convenience of still living with his parents gives him an excuse to put off going any further with anyone. cassie's anon who suggested bi tom, i'm kissing you so hard on your forehead rn bc he'd literally spend like almost a year being just shy of his Hoe Phase, making out with anyone who wants to, regardless of their gender, but only while he's at the club, he never lets himself go further.

until that one night when his parents are away and his mates know full well that he's got no excuse and they're very obviously egging him on. (this would probably be the first fic in the series)

he moves out from his parents' place into a flat with a friend he's made outside of work, and that's when his lil slut era truly begins. (maybe a series of blurbs for this?) he lives with a friend he's made outside of work (any gender, it's not relevant bc bi!tom and his flatmate are 100% Best Buds For Life but also if neither of them find anyone worth pulling on a night out, they'll go back to the flat and fool around together anyway)

in his working life, tom absolutely thrives at the construction company. mostly bc he's known the workers his whole life, so he can have plenty of banter with them, but also, more importantly, he knows just enough IT skills to be able to help the owner with digitalising all the admin stuff. this means tom rises the ranks to supervisor pretty quickly, and everyone loves little Boy Wonder himself. he hates being in the office though, he's always out on site wherever the company's got jobs going. he's hands-on, he wants to help, he doesn't want to be a Big Boss Type

okay, from now on, this is the part in tom's life where he meets you, the person who ends up as his endgame. so this is a different character to those i might write about in his hoe phase, probably time skip a few years of tom taking a break from slutting it up and just casually dating until he knows exactly what he wants to give and take from a relationship.

and then he meets you. it's summer, and your work bestie has invited you over to her place to meet her boyfriend and her non-work friends for the first time. you're a little nervous, but you remember that she has a dog, so if all else fails, you can just go full Party Dog mode and switch everyone else off

it's not that you don't like her friends from outside of work, you just have way less in common with them than you do her, and it feels awkward trying to put yourself in conversations without her there, and she's all over this new fella of hers, so you go to your failsafe to find that someone else has had the same idea as you

tom's come along as support for his best friend, who's dating your work bestie. however, since the boyfriend is being walked like a dog around the whole party being introduced to everybody, tom isn't as sociable and was promised there'd be a Party Dog there, so he's gone looking, himself.

you guys bond v quickly over being Party Dog People, spending the night narrating different groups as though you're david attenborough and taking it in turns to let the dog comment in silly voices you both make up for it

stupidly, you don't get his number, or even his last name. one thing you'd learned about him is that he doesn't really use social media, which you can tell from the instagram account you find from several hours of snooping lightly browsing, which was last updated when he'd gone on a lads' holiday to ibiza several years ago, and only features group shots in which he's tiny and his face is mostly obscured with sunglasses. which means you've got to try and convince your work bestie to invite you somewhere that her boyfriend's friends are gonna be, too

thankfully, this is nice n easy, bc tom's been planning the exact same on his end. you guys get so lost in conversation all night that you almost forget to ask for his number, until you're rolling down the window in the back of the Uber you've ordered and he's hanging halfway through it to make sure he studies the screen so that he can make sure that everything he thinks he's saying matches up with what he actually is

the Uber driver gets a little peeved about this and is like "listen mate just get in so i can drive off" and tom sheepishly complies, ending up riding all the way home with you. you'd feel rude if you didn't invite him in, though a little part of you is sad that tom's just probably gonna be another one night stand bc you really liked him. you get another drink for the two of you once you're inside, he suggests the two of you watch something for a bit for some background noise. naturally, you cuddle up, and that leads to kissing - a lot of kissing. but he doesn't try it on any further. you both end up falling asleep on the couch until you wake up to the sight, sound n smell of him making himself home in your kitchen, cooking you breakfast

you guys have this sort of, slightly more than friends, not exactly friends with benefits, relationship that he isn't out here jumping the gun trying to define, so neither are you. you're trying to stay casual with it, to keep up with him, even though your work bestie keeps pushing you for more bc she doesn't believe that that's just what you guys are, but she's not making any hints that tom's suggested taking things further, and so neither will you. (would it be an rj fic if there wasn't a comedy of errors thanks to basic miscommunication? lol)

either a significant amount of months pass, or valentine's day approaches, and tom gets you a gift. it's not any big grand gesture, but it's something that v much pertains to something you really love. a hobby, an interest, some silly little objectification of an inside joke) you feel bad, of course, and he insists that he's just a gift giver by nature, it wasn't done with the intention of getting anything back. but after many minutes of bargaining, he relents and allows you to invite him over for a homecooked meal. this is when you guys talk it all out, explain that both of you have felt a Spark but didn't want to Assume so you'd been dialling it back to protect your friendship with each other. naturally: tom ends up spending the night, but not a lot of sleeping happens, if you catch my drift

now in terms of what the dynamic is with you and older!tom:

he's still the menace he was in his younger days. you head into the office to give him the lunch he forgot to make bc he'd been running late too busy eatin something ELSE amiRIGHT and his coworkers tease you for being so in love that you'll bend over backwards for him and you know as soon as they've said that, that any second tom'll be leaning in once they're looking the other way to mutter in your ear about how you certainly were bent over backwards for him last night

speaking of, remember how he hated being in the office? not once he starts dating you. any excuse he can get to have you in there with him, whether his colleagues know or he's snuck you in, he's there

i also think that. okay i'm also co-opting @mypoisonedvine's idea of tom having a housewife kink, but hear me out. so, you know there's that saying, if you joke about a kink long enough, you'll end up into it? i think something similar-but-not-really happens to tom. where he works with a bunch of older men with "traditional" values, they're always making jokes about being in trouble with the missus, or about whether he can't stay after work bc you've got the dinner on and you're expecting him home. and tom isn't afraid to call them out on it, to tease them right back that it sucks for them that their partners aren't into them, but he's just built different. but the more he vocalises against being into the idea of you being a stay-at-home wife, the more taboo it becomes. which means the sexier that idea becomes. which means soon enough, he's dreaming about you, looking after the house while he makes sure he can look after you. it becomes obvious after a while that he's got a specific fantasy in mind for you, so he eventually tells you, and you're into it, too. especially considering construction pays pretty decently once you're up the ladder like tom is, technically you're one let's do it away from making your fantasy a reality. but there's just something about sensationalising something so easily obtainable, but not giving into it, that makes it all the more exciting for you both

i don't think either of you fully make your minds up about whether you want to start a family or live the dink (double income, no kids) life forevermore and use your money to spoil each other. i think you guys spend most of your twenties and maybe some of your early thirties just enjoying life, travelling the world, indulging yourselves, until eventually you settle down. a lot of yours and tom's friends, especially the ones who have already started families of their own, question why you wouldn't want to start young, grow up with your kids, and then enjoy your later years without the responsibility. but you and tom have talked it through, and his mindset has always been that you don't stop being a parent once the kid hits 18, and that he's always thought life was for living, not for saving up for a future that never ends up coming because you're forever saving up for it

not to plug for my own au or anything (bc it literally hasn't been posted yet lol) but like... as a mainly 2012 fan, seeing all of this with the knowledge of what happened to Yoshi and Saki in that timeline is. damn. okay yeah 12 Splinter could've been So Much Worse. by no means is he a good dad but at least he's trying to do right by his kids rather than emulating 1-to-1 what Yuuta did to him and his brother. still makes me so sad that he died before he could successfully unpack all that trauma so he just kinda said "well shit I don't have time so I better make one of them even more emotionally fucked up to protect the others For The Greater Good" and in that sense followed in Yuuta's footsteps at the very last moment. really pulled a Saki there :/

so! on that note! it made me curious, what with all the crossover stuff going on, what would happen if someone tried to kill your Splinter. idk if anyone else wants the glory so I'm just gonna say that my Splints did it because he regrets chickening out when Saki nearly died to Yuuta back in the day yada yada plot stuff. needless to say he would fail miserably, there's a reason he's in hiding these days. so how would Splinter react? like, if he survives, but it was close and there is a credible and very aggressive threat to his personal safety (which he can defeat pretty easily but it's still inconvenient and frightening), but for Multiverse Reasons he can't just pick up the kids and leave.

the other important question is... how would the kids react? especially Mikey. something has just shown that their dad is not invincible, but he is still a problem. how would he respond to that?

haven't watched a lot of 2012 but i am eternally amused that he was like, kind of a shit dad and then just DIED about it haha fsdfdsf.

anywho, to get into your question-

Splinter is already pretty paranoid, he wont step foot in the hidden city for fear that Big Mama's goons will get him even all these years later. if someone tried to kill him and knew where he lived he'd grab his boys and SKEDADDLE. and if they DIDNT know where he lived he'd force donnie to up the security on their lair by like 1000%.

as for mikey, I think it's different to wish your dad would die and actually see someone try to do it. even though Mikey wouldn't be SUPER broken up if Splinter died, he'd still be traumatized, and he knows it would hurt his brothers a lot if they lost Splinter. he's also not prone to trusting adults, especially those who just (seemingly) randomly attacked his caretaker.

Donnie would be panicked about it and feel unsafe until they figured out who tried to kill splinter and why.

Leo would be fuckin furious and decide to be Splinters personal body guard for the foreseeable future.

Raph is always tired and would continue to be tired and irritated. he probably wouldn't change much, except that now he's extra high strung cause what if the guy who tried to kill splinter comes back for the rest of them?? and if splinter dies, where will they go?? will Draxum take them in? stressful.

(Birdkind) The Halo of Red has a lot more officers I haven't talked about other than the big three (Arch, Parasol, Gilgamesh) and they kinda have their own gig with each other (mostly discourses). Most prominent of them is Brigadier General Roger (Bald Eagle) and Colonel Ohio (Shoebill) who are basically a platonic Florida Man and Ohio Man. You can imagine how that goes. Can I be honest? I'm gonna be because I need to understand this. I hope it doesn't come across as rude though because I don't mean it like that.

So I started reading your stepdad harry series/blurbs idk what to call them exactly. And I'm a bit confused. Well to be fair I haven't read all of it but the ones I read and thought was important didn't make much sense to me. Is it not supposed to make sense? Like all the fics are happening with the same characters and same universe right? Or is it just idea based like you have stepdad stepdaughter and mom and you got an idea so you write and it doesn't have fit into an established world or plotline (sorry my English is shit and idk how to explain this but i hope you understand what I am trying to say)?

The first of the collection is when they have sex for the first time, through out that fic it's evident that it's their first time and she definitely didn't come across as a virgin. Then later on there's another story (reader request I think) where he takes her virginity. But that doesn't make sense unless it's just different universe kinda yk? Like how you have a professor harry series and you also have a professor harry one shot and they're both different characters. It's just the first of the stepdadrry series being their first time and then there being another 'he takes her virginity' story in the same series just doesn't make sense to me. Like these two can be different stories yk?

Also like I wanna know what's Harry's deal with his wife and what's her deal with Harry because he's close to her daughters age and she didn't think that's gonna be awkward. Harry likes older women yes but did he feel anything for her when they were dating or was it just money and did he feel anything for her before he started this affair with her daughter. What does his wife feel about her after the wedding, does she love him? Does she talk to her daughter about how much she loves him? I wanna know. In the first fic it was mentioned they got married 5 months ago, and yn met him when they were already dating for few months and she's 22 and in Harry's pov fic it says she was a virgin. That still doesn't make sense. Because the first ever fic seemed to give a total different idea. And I'm fucking annoyed with myself because I'm taking this way too seriously but I can't help it. AHHH! Yess yes yes! So stepdad!h was always meant to only be the first post - a one-shot/blurb but I kept getting requests for more scenarios, etc. There's no timeline really. There's no heavy plot. It's literally just a bunch of random asks that I write for their universe. There might be a tiny bit of timeline happening in some parts but overall there's nothing solid there to hang onto. The virgin thing... yeah that was a request that I fulfilled for a follower who asked for it - even tho we already kind of saw their first time (with the first blurb I wrote) and she absolutely wasn't a virgin in my head when I wrote that first part. When I did stepdad!h I was new to writing fic so it was kind of practice for me in a way? It's definitely not my best work and I wouldn't recommend that au to anyone bc I don't LOVE the idea of it with Harry being such a dick - but I did have fun writing them.

It's okay that you're trying to find a timeline and want it to be cohesive. Most everything else in my masterlist is more cohesive and timeline driven but stepdad!h is just a random collection of requests that I fulfill and it's not something to focus on as a true series.

I hope that makes sense hon! And the only reason I don't delete stepdad!h from my masterlist is bc I still have followers who really like it and even if it's not my proudest work, it's good to look back at how far I've come since I started writing that au.

it's my time to shineeeeeee except this is like, all headcanon. but it is based on me logicking things out!! stay with me here!!

1- my best explanation is that eyewitness testimony is really unreliable, especially when said eyewitnesses are focused more on the knives than whose wielding them. i also don't think we know where the whole legend started in stampede, like what nai's First Crime is, so we don't know if it was maybe just a case of "wrong place, wrong time" for vash as so often happens

(i know we know it was the Big Fall and/or the time vash lost his arm, but people clearly don't remember/know the circumstances of the Big Fall now, if they ever did, and nai killed everyone in the second instance except vash and luida. plus, i feel like the humanoid typhoon thing has to be more recent if he's on wanted posters instead of talked about like a myth, because no one would believe in a 150yo outlaw)

(does that imply that nai's operations were more subtle and spread out for the first, say, 120 years? what was he doing all that time? now i'm more confused) (random timeline notes: legato was already there with his weird telekinesis situation when wolfwood was taken, however i don't think we have a confirmed age for wolfwood? at most it's ~20 years, a little less. similarly, they had the tech for rollo's transformation, but he was not the first experiment.)

(aaaaaand for what it's worth, in the og/1990s anime, which is a lot more episodic at least to start, we don't even meet nai for ages and ages. vash gets caught up in tons of fights and problems that are never his fault, but he always gets blamed when someone recognizes him as the humanoid typhoon. so that might be part of the issue as well, though of course stampede and '98 are very different canons, so that's just speculation until we get more backstory info)

2- my personal headcanon is that it's made out of some kind of material that would probably fit anyone. rem has one too in the flashbacks! i see it as standard space age clothing, probably either super stretchy or super baggy with tech to make it form-fitting, and probably more tech to make it good for all kinds of environments, bc you never know what you find in space.

THAT begs the question, why does nai still wear it? nostalgia? hatred for anything else humans have made? is it plant made and thus the only think he will allow himself to wear? wait, doesn't he make that weird cloak with his knives? did nai make the bodysuits???

3- i can't say what happened to all of her but i will point out that in that flashback in....e11 or e12, when conrad is talking to meryl and you see the day he met nai? nai points his knives at conrad, and there is a Fucking. Eyeball. in his hand/the knife hilt. i'm 99% sure it moves. tesla's eye? if it's moving, does that imply she's still alive? her whole thing seems really delicate, i'm not totally sure i believe it could have survived a crash like that, but who knows how well nai prepped for it.

(if there's a better explanation for the eye and i missed it, pls ignore this, but i haven't seen ANYONE talk about it, so) (tbf i think i only noticed it the third watch through)

4- i believe nai heavily implies when they meet in e3 that they haven't seen each other, ever, since....potentially the time vash lost his arm. which goes back to: what has nai been doing? has vash been avoiding him, or has he simply not been looking? i feel like it sort of makes sense for him to wait until the point he did, when he had the means to actually enact his plan. it wouldn't help to take vash immediately if nai had no plants to, um, impregnate, and it seems like the whole e12 thing also needed a lot of tech and power that probably would have taken time to set up.

also, nai would have had a vested interest in keeping his allies secret from vash, both to take him by surprise when he finally used them and because vash wouldn't go near nai on his own, but if he knew nai was kidnapping and experimenting on children? mmmm, would he have been able to stay away?

5- oh yeah, ohhhhhhhh yeah. are you ready to receive information that could potentially hurt you?

honestly a lot of the people *i* see discussing it are vash/nai shippers (yes, everyone knows they're twins, yes, that's incest, etc etc--it's not the point here. let's just accept that the shippers exist, there are Undertones in the source material, and anyway, BACK TO THE POINT). but yeah, it totally is invasive, and this post is long winded enough without getting into all of it, but quickly

nai very obviously doesn't view the plants really as people, or beings with like, rights. he doesn't view anyone that way, i don't think. he displays fucking plant corpses in his creepy piano room, you know everything in his secret base thing is plant-powered, and he's not looking into other, more sustainable sources of energy because he doesn't care about humans! obviously! he also never outlines any idea of what to do with the dependent plants. it's said that they can't exist without humans, which is probably propaganda, but it's also not clear how capable they are of surviving on their own. can they even, like, breathe outside the tanks?

anyway, this extends to vash, who has ALWAYS been a tool for nai's own ends, from the very beginning with the Big Fall. nai literally wants vash to be this perfect, untouchable, docile and agreeable version of himself that is everything nai wants, and if he isn't that, nai would actually rather him become a corpse-trophy like the other plants in his room.

i might be being harsh on nai here. i do think he's nuanced and complicated, but this is not the post for all thatttttt. also, um, i can't resist, because speaking of the plantcest/shippy undertones....nai is literally penetrating his brother (debatable if the tentacle knives count as part of his body, but regardless) in order to impregnate their "sisters" which is. it's a lot. that's not even subtext. it IS creepy and gross, tho. i have a lot of thoughts on e12.

6- this one i have no idea about. zip, zilch, nada. the gate thing in e3 still doesnt make sense to me and i've seen it six times. it's like, the one flaw in the show for me because i Don't Get It. maybe someone else knows, tho

-Does no one notice the difference between the pale stabby squid man and the fluorescent red golden retriever man?

-Is….. is the body suit attached? Is it not?

-what happened to Tesla after the crash?

-why does vash not know nai’s murderous employees by the time he’s like 150

-is no one going to acknowledge the incredibly invasive nature of what occurred in the last episode????

-what did nai do to vash’s gate at jeneora rock and why did he need diff tech in the last episode?

Reading the Homestuck Epilogues 6 [MEAT] (prt. 11-15)

So far, we have the normal Homestuck experience in the meat route, which is certainly a feeling. There's always that sense of foreboding in the future, but it's not all bad!

SPOILER ALERT: I rant. a lot. I have a lot of feelings about these sets of parts and it shows by the length. Thank god I'm putting it under the cut, because it really is fucking LONG.

So, hilarious start, right off the bat. Yes, John, you're stuck. You are, essentially, homestuck. Haha. A motorcycle jumps off from the canyon, the crowd goes wild with dismay, and mass-unaliving. They're there until someone unloads them from the house trap juju, also they're in separate rooms. Hm. Would you call this scenario being grounded from the timeline? From canon?

John admits he thinks he has depression which is a huge step forward for him, but I'm also kind of a jerk, so I say "huh, ya think?" By the way admitting you aren't ok is very valid and appreciate yourself more for taking that step back-forward you beautiful person you. Don't mind my being a dick on the matter, I love Egbert and I love bullying them *gently*. Fuck anyone who invalidates your feelings. Find a support system that works for you, because you absolutely deserve it.

Oh we're right back with the political clap shit aight. Dave what the fuck are you on. Is economics the only thing you care about? Really?

Also I think Jane has a good point about restricting grist alchemy for "growth", but I'd be more concerned if she closed off EVERY avenue about it. Like, some people might really need a helping hand yanno? But also, alchemizing your way to progress is...really fucking disastrous in the long run. I'm just saying. Again, not happy with the way Jane handles everything, but some points can be argued for surface-wise.

Props to Jade for being the smartest person in the room. But also are you fucking STILL on the relationship thing? Hm. Well, this is the MEAT route, it could work out. I like the DaveJadeKat ship, just not as much as Davesprite/Jade or DavepetaJade obvsly. But also, I think they all should like reflect on past selves, a little? Karkat, I believe, still owes Jade an apology for being a dick to her. Yes I know he's mellowed out and I'm not sure if he did it in the OG homestuck, but my point is that I want them to have a reflection session or something. You know, a down-to-earth discussion. But who am I kidding, these people are dumbasses.

Jade burns them hard lol. At least this Jade says "you can say no", but also, she's right, Dave and Karkat are like, boring since they haven't really done anything exciting after winning the game. Like they've settled, which is sweet from a realistic perspective, but Homestuck is meant to have dynamic and fun characters, both of which Davekat presently, canonically...isn't. Is this why people are fed up with Davekat? Bc they're boring?

But seriously Karkat and Dave's inability to fucking be real for a second and consider their relationships without proverbially flipping off the handle is fucking nuts. Guys. Guys just skip the bullshit, please. Don't deflect, don't self-flagellate. I don't even care if you guys are just "friends" and you're "uncomfortable with labelling your relationship" right now, just be honest. For the record, not wanting to put an immediate endgame label for your relationship is totally valid, but you're both stupid for not fucking THINKING about it and not setting clear boundaries. It's giving Jade and the rest of the gang (and fans) weird signals.

Aaaand this is why I fucking want these three to fucking talk about how they're going to go about their dating scheme. Jade seems pretty intent on going pitch with Karkat, because that is how she understands Karkat to operate under, which is...honestly, something she likely got wrong. I personally don't think Karkat is capable of holding any pitch related quadrant, except maybe as a step-in for the ashen one. It's been discussed by multiple people, but I'll summarize it as: Karkat is likely aquadrantic the way typical romance is for trolls is like being gay to heterosexual relationships are for humans. Fundamentally incapable of intercepting. I could go on about how Karkat just exists outside the perceived sexuality/romantic tendencies for troll society, but basically, Karkat is the troll's version of gay. Y'know, aquadrantic.

if glee were still going now and instead of every season being one school year, they were just stuck in this unending timeless void of being in highschool forever, you know they would've done an episode of sexual liberation by now.

Quinn would have a field day with it and whatever her number is it'd go down in glee history as a super fucking weird moment that you only remember during odd hours of the night years after you stop watching. not unlike that song where she got like 6 other pregnant teenagers to dance backup for her while she sang a song about women being oppressed.

also because this is my alternate universe where glee still exists to terrorize us all im deciding that they never stopped writing plotlines for Quinn, and because I'm writing this tumblr post I'm deciding that a recent plot line she had was that she went on a sexual liberation quest and at some point ended up fucking Santana, and oh my god Santana wants to tell people about it soooooooo bad but Quinn made her swear to secrecy so she just has to drop hints around Quinn's boyfriend (ig Finn since I don't like him) about having fucked his girlfriend. she has fun.

anyways Santana would sing Scotty doesn't know and it'd go down in both glee and lesbian history as an absolutely earth shattering life changing event that forced millions of little queer girls all across the planet to suddenly become very aware of their sexual orientations.

I think in general I just like the idea of Santana fucking everyone's partners and holding it over their heads, like when Rachel found out Finn slept with Santana and Santana kept walking over to Rachel and saying shit like "by the way, he bought me dinner afterwards😌✨" and Rachel proceeded to like lose her absolute mind for the rest of the episode. I just love that for her yknow? I like that this is a power she has, she should get to use it more often.

also I like the idea of Quinn being kind of a mentally unstable unpredictable mess, because although a lot of the reason she has that image us bc Ryan Murphy would ignore her all season and then realize oh shit we haven't done anything with Quinn in a while uhh make her get a haircut I guess, I just think it fits for Quinn to be kind of a disaster. so in my heart in this darker timeline where glee still exists, Quinn would get a couple of storylines every season, and the writers would just sort of pull things out of a hat to make her do for the next 10 episodes or so.

whenever she runs for prom queen, and since time doesn't exist here she's ran like 7 times by now, she gets way too invested in winning and the writers use that as an opportunity to give her a good old crazy girl ballad, but they'll still do the glee writer thing where they'll make her have a psychotic break in the school bathroom one episode and then no one ever brings it up, except to make one liners about her mental state and the fact that we probably shouldn't trust her to drive the car when the uht carpool but she refuses to let anyone else take the wheel so we're just going to have to let Santana and Brittany pray for their safety. anyways. that was a lot longer than I thought it'd be thank you for coming to my ted talk

#I've always had the hc that one of the main reasons danzou got orochimaru into root when he did#and subsequently had him experimenting on children w/o going straight to sarutobi abt it was cause of nawaki's death#keep in mind i haven't read or seen naruto and dont give a fuck abt canon#this is my playground and im gonna do what i want#cause like orochimaru is alone when danzou approaches him abt root#both jiraya and tsunade have left konoha and nawaki has died but it's recent enough that it's likely still a p fresh wound#also afaik danzou approached orochimaru in front of his parents grave!#what better time to manipulate someone into attempting to give orphans mokuton than after the death of one of the last senju#who if he had had mokuton might not have died and therefore if mokuton can be brought back those children might have a chance of survival#or at least a bigger chance than those who dont#idk this is just my thought of why orochimaru didnt go through the thought process that would lead to “sensei wouldn't approve”#cause orochimaru is absolutely devious enough to get danzou in trouble by bringing it up w sarutobi all innocent like#and having the whole thing and possibly root while he's at it gutted before it can even truly hurt anyone#but because of his mindspace at the time and having no one to pull him out of the guilt and grief of both recent and old loss#he doesn't really want to think too hard on what he's doing and what the consequences later down the line will be

i'm not sure we know when danzou approached orochimaru - a lot orochimaru's past is pretty vague, which i think is on purpose. usually when we see him in flashbacks it's through someone else's point of view (hiruzen, jiraiya, tsunade, kabuto, sasuke, etc). he's a somewhat mysterious character, which is probably bc he doesn't actually know himself all that well either. sasuke theorizes that even orochimaru isn't one hundred percent sure why he does the things he does, which i think is likely at least semi-accurate (and also part of why he can't relate as well to sasuke as he thinks he can, bc sasuke is a character who always has a set goal and an idea of how to get there and orochimaru is just kinda. doing shit and justifying it to himself afterwards. "why did i do that? well here's a reason that has enough words to sound correct-ish even tho i'm definitely just saying shit that sounds like it might be kinda true idk kid i just live here")

orochimaru having been nawaki's jounin sensei is afaik just fanon but it's an idea that i really like, in part bc it adds an extra tragic element to that poor kid's death (although. if we're being honest nawaki isn't really a character himself as he is a prop for tsunade's tragic backstory. but i have no problem with that tbh you can't develop everybody and it's nice that tsunade's backstory is something of a reversal of manpain tropes).

anyway, we don't to my knowledge know when orochimaru got entangled with root - all we know for sure is that he was working with danzou before kabuto left the orphanage, which doesn't actually tell us much bc kabuto is only like 19 when we meet him during the chuunin exams arc and orochimaru is about 50 or so. so if we say that kabuto was 7 when he was brought to the orphanage, then orochimaru would have been 38-ish at around the same time, and tho it's not clear how long kabuto was at the orphanage before meeting orochimaru, i'd say at minimum half a year, since he had a pretty good grasp on medical ninjutsu by then, but likely longer since he'd clearly aged a bit.

so if kabuto meets orochimaru at 9, joins root at age 10, and then defects 4 years later to orochimaru at 14 (i'm going loosely off of @keepyourpantsongohan's timeline here), orochimaru would have been respectively 40, 41, and 45 at those same times. as a spy, kabuto infiltrated kumo, kiri, suna, and iwa, so if we allow a year for each of those that'd have him at.... 11, 12, 13, and 14, which fits. orochimaru also states that danzou ordered nonou to assassinate "a certain man" (kabuto) "several years ago", so assuming that she joined root immediately after he did, danzou always intended kabuto to die when he was sent to iwa, and either to take have him take out nonou as she took him out or to tell her the truth afterwards and have her kill herself (orochimaru uses the phrase 共倒れ (tomodaore) when he talks about this, which means "mutual destruction" or "falling together". can also mean "joint bankruptcy" but that's probably not what danzou was thinking about)

anyway, the point is, this shows us that danzou's a brutally efficient ruthless sob, which we knew, but anyway.

yamato was stolen as a baby (the anime ages him up a bit but. he was a baby in the manga) but he's in his mid-20s in shippuden which orochimaru is 54. nawaki died at age 12, so tsunade and therefore orochimaru would've been 16 or so, which means there's a difference of about a decade between nawaki's death and orochimaru's experiments with the mokuton, so i doubt those two were quite so directly tied. the thing is, since tsunade took shizune with her when she left, she would have left after shizune became a chuunin, which was several years after yamato's birth and therefore the start of orochimaru's mokuton experiments.

however, we know that tsunade's boyfriend dan died at 27. assuming he was the same age as the sannin, that means that he died a year or so before yamato's birth. since this caused tsunade to effectively retire, i think it's much more likely that any non--scientific personal investment orochimaru had in the mokuton experiments had to do with dan's death (or, rather, tsunade's reaction to it) rather than nawaki's. hard to be absolutely sure about anything bc the timeline of naruto is,,,,,, iffy. at best.

For my CoD AUs, Apoptosis and Venator, I haven't really developed them much since the last time we've talked, since my focus has mostly been on Call of Honor ;u; (If you or anyone reading have specific questions about them though, feel free to ask!) The same is for my Dishonored AUs, Lorelei and Immram (both are working titles.)

I'm still working on Call of Honor, obvs. I think I've mentioned it here before (I know I mentioned it on Twitter), but Call of Honor has gone from being a tentative trilogy to a five part saga, and I'm planning on covering the events of Dishonored 1, Dishonored 2, and the years between them! I don't plan on adapting DOTO into the Call of Honor universe, and the amount of influence the books and comics have on CoH...well, I picked out some lore and characters I thought were interesting, but that's about it XD

I'm about to babble on and on about what I'm planning bc I'm really excited about it, so I'll put all that stuff below the cut to spare y'all's dashboards. Beware for spoilers if anyone here doesn't want to be spoiled—I'll try not to go into detail, but I do spoil the appearance of certain important characters and whether or not Soap gets to go back home.

Parts One through Four of Call of Honor are going to follow Soap pretty heavily. We already know what Part One, The Plagued Capital, is about: after dying in Prague, Soap wakes up in the Dishonored universe and stumbles across the Loyalist Conspiracy, and he has to help them realize their goals. In return, they promise to help him find a way home.

Obviously, since this is a multiparter, I'm going to say it outright: Soap doesn't get to go home. How he comes to that conclusion and how he feels about it, I won't spoil; I'll let it come out in my writing once I start releasing chapters again.

Parts Two and Three (with the working titles Interim and The Tyvia Expedition, respectively) are going to focus on what happens after the Plague Crisis and the Loyalist Conspiracy. In Interim, Soap adjusts to a new life and role within the Dishonored universe and continues to build his relationships with the Dishonored characters (as well as starting to leave his mark on the world). In The Tyvia Expedition, well, Soap gets to adventure around in Tyvia with Sokolov, Cecelia, and a few other characters!

Originally, The Tyvia Expedition was going to be a one-off that served as fun little side piece, but ultimately not important to the CoH timeline. My partner and beta Sol and I have expanded it a lot, though, and now enough important stuff happens that it's an official part of the Call of Honor saga.

Also, in The Tyvia Expedition, we get to meet a new OC of mine, Vesna! I've introduced her on my art blog, but as a quick summary: Vesna is Makarov's daughter, born in 2004 from an unplanned pregnancy and raised by Makarov and (before Makarov ousted him) Yuri. She dies a few days before Makarov does, and appears in the Dishonored universe. She and Makarov are reunited after the events of The Plagued Capital, and the readers—and Soap—will meet her for the first time toward the beginning of The Tyvia Expedition.

Interim and The Tyvia Expedition are going to deal with some heavy topics, but compared to the other parts, they're the lighter entries in the series, and The Tyvia Expedition builds up to the fourth part, The Shadow of Tyvia.

The Shadow of Tyvia takes place a few years after the events of Call of Honor. Canonically in the Dishonored universe, Tyvia has a USSR-esque government; I said fuck that and, for the purposes of CoH, made Tyvia more similar to Imperial Russia, though it's ruled by four Princes. Unfortunately for these Princes, Makarov is up to some fuckshit, and Soap has to try and stop him from fucking over the world again.

The fifth and final part of the Call of Honor saga isn't titled yet. It takes place in 1852, during the events of Dishonored 2—though instead of Delilah, Vesna returns as the big bad of this story. Emily is usurped from her throne and both Corvo and Soap are kidnapped, and Emily has to rescue them, find out what Vesna's goals are, and stop her from realizing them.

The fifth part of Call of Honor is going to be the darkest out of all of them, but it will have a...happy ending? Maybe bittersweet would be a more fitting term for it. And it will for sure be the last entry in the saga, concluding the Kaldwin-Attano-MacTavish arcs. I've got the epilogue planned out and everything. That won't be the absolute end of Call of Honor as a project, though, because I've got two spinoff fics planned, and Sol is working on a companion trilogy!

The first spinoff is going to be a trilogy with the overarching working title, The Way of Death. It's going to be from Makarov's perspective and following his experiences and actions from the end of The Plagued Capital to the events of the last part of Call of Honor. There's a lot of stuff that he's going to be doing that the readers won't be able to see during the main Call of Honor series, so this spinoff is a way for me to be able to explore and write about these events!

The second spinoff fic is an AU of an AU with the working title Operation Coffee Bean—so obviously, it's going to be a coffee shop AU. It takes place about 200 years after the events of CoH, where all the characters are reincarnated (without memories of their past lives). It's going to be 100% tooth rotting "everyone lives and is happy" fluff, not at all canon to the CoH timeline but still fun. I'm planning on writing it mainly as a way to take a break from the main Call of Honor fic, because there are definitely going to be points where it gets really dark and I'll need the mood boost ;u;

Finally, Sol's companion trilogy, Call of Absolution, will follow Yuri from the events of The Plagued Capital to The Tyvia Expedition (though I'm not sure if Sol plans on writing more parts to go along with the rest of CoH). They won't be updating it for a while, since they're waiting for me to finish CoH, but here is where you can read the first two chapters of the first part if you're interested! (Please keep in mind these chapters may be edited in the future.)

My mom's been dead for nearly a decade now and I still have a hard time admitting (even just to myself!) that she was abusive. It doesn't feel real, it feels like I'm exaggerating when I say (or even think) that and I know I've had therapists try and ask me about why that is and I don't even remember what answer I gave them at the time but I definitely know it wasn't the truth bc I only just now realized what the truth even was! (Or maybe I've realized it before but got too stressed by that knowledge so I just suppressed that memory)

I spent so much of my life being told that what I was experiencing wasn't that bad and that if I kept making it sound like it was then I would be sent someplace far far worse.

Like, I've spent so much of my life really believing that I wasn't abused because 'hey it could have been worse, I could have been in the foster system and ended up with a foster parent who raped me' and I /believed/ that because that was basically word for word something my mom told me would happen to me if I didn't learn to be more grateful for what I had and the way she treated me. The first time I remember having one of these talks trapped in the car while she circled the "bad" part of town was when I was in sixth grade! And I don't even think that was actually the first time it's just the earliest one I can concretely place on a timeline.

Like holy shit! I thought I had pretty much processed everything I needed to process about all that before but /clearly/ I haven't because realizing 'hey thats actually not a normal thing to tell a ten year old even IF they are being incredibly bratty' feels like a giant bombshell? And it probably shouldn't. It seems so obvious now but I'm almost thirty and I didn't realize.

Was I ever even a brat? I remember hating that word growing up, to the point where even looking at ads for Bratz dolls made me like irrationally angry. Which idk maybe that means something too.

I feel like I want/need some kind of external validation that 'yup those things happened to you you're not exaggerating or misremembering' but also if anyone could confirm that it would mean that they knew and did nothing which like. I kind of was already aware was a thing that happened, like. We spent so much time around mandated reporters with loads of training on how to spot this sort of thing, my mom like surrounded herself with people like that, and /yet/ no one ever did anything

And now I'm realizing that that also probably contributed to the feeling that things weren't actually that bad and I was over exaggerating everything.

so I think the Witch and Dr. D left for the zones between 1999 and 2000 (D was 19-20 then and Phoenix was 21-22). and at the time Phoenix was just her name and D went by his city name. They're similar to Party and Kobra in the way that Phoenix and Party weren't planning on leaving the city like. ever. but there's no way they were gonna let their little brother go out there alone so they followed. They're also similar in the way the younger sibling is more than willing to embrace everything the zones has to offer but it takes the older sibling more time to get used to all that stuff.

D didn't start out doing radio, at this point it was years before he even thought of it. He was a medic and actually got kinda famous from it in zone's low-life circles (thieves, scavengers, strays, everyone the True Revolutionaries look down upon). He was pretty well known because if someone needed help he would just help them for free without expecting any sort of payment (although most of the time whoever he was helping would insist he take something). That's how he ended up being known as the Doctor. Kobra is also like this in the way he was known for his racing long before he was known for being part of the Fab Four, but in both cases barely anyone remembers them for the thing that got them famous in the first place.

So while D was doing all that, Phoenix meets Raven, who was the Witch at the time. Just a little bit about the Witch: the first Witch was named Crow and she's why the Witch is associated with crows despite every other Witch being named for a different bird. The Witch before Raven was named Hawkeye. The Phoenix Witch is generally associated with purple and has purple eyes, and the others were associated with red, yellow, and orange and had those colored eyes in chronological order. I can expand on this more in a different post but for my fellow TMA enjoyers imagine the Witch as the Eye, the End, and the Web as one entity. Also after Phoenix became the Witch, D and the Girl both had purple eyes as well, but the Girl's became brown after she used her powers to destroy BLI.

So with that aside, Phoenix has to pretty much figure everything about the Witch out herself, and while she wouldn't have become the Witch if she'd known what was happening, by the time she realized it was already too late.

This is getting long so I'll end it with some other thoughts about sibling parallels. I think in both cases the older siblings are overprotective to a fault and a bit controlling but honestly just want what's best for their little brother. The younger siblings have way too much trust in their older sibling, less true for Kobra but he still trusted Party enough to go straight into BLI HQ with the worst plan I've ever heard of so there's that lmao
