I'm a chaiogoo shill. I've worked at yarn shops, and sold so many chiaogoo needle sets. Hear me out, the cables don't have memory issues unless you do things to them that would break most other cables anyway. the sizing is super consistent and so is the machining. I got my first set of chiaogoo in the small size of their set and when I went years later and had to buy more and get the larger sizes, all my cables and needles still fit a decade later, and I've been able to easily add to my collection. They're popular enough they're easy to find at local yarn stores, or can be special ordered very easily. They're so good at magic loop! They have really smooth joins between the cable and the needle! If you use the t-pins and the grippies that come with a set (the grippy is relatively new, I bought my partner a set a year ago that didn't have it but sets I've seen selling this year have them) then they won't come untwisted at all! You don't even have to use the grippy assist, it just makes it extra secure. You'll be able to change your needle size very easily for swatches as well, if you happen to be too big or small. The complete set contains most needle sizes you will ever need, unless you knit a lot of fine fingering or lace in teeny needles, or need some fiddly mm sizes in the large range, and you'd have to special buy those anyway. The needles are made of stainless steel so they won't rust or break easily like bamboo. They're very well-made and can easily last a knitter their entire lifetime. I love mine and I recommend them to anyone who will listen! However, they aren't cheap for a complete set. I've seen prices between 215-240usd on the market currently for a complete set, and I think a set of just the large or small will run around 120+. Worth the investment, but pass on them if you are only doing occasional projects and can't afford the investment. For a lot of knitters, just buying the size you need as you go is much easier because of the lower up-front cost. A bit of a pain if you have to swatch a lot to meet gauge, but we work with what we have!
i seriously need to upgrade from my cheap acrylic interchangeables that literally pop off the connector while i am knitting so i have a very important question for knitblr
my current ones are knit pro/knitters pride trendz and i think you can already tell how i feel about them. the two listed are the two i have been considering most heavily. my main drawback on the chiaogoo is the price but i have heard amazing things on facebook so i want yalls opinions here

I think I'm going to make a temperature blanket this year
#generally people would plan for this earlier. but. I only JUST thought of it last night#I'm considering like a mood blanket / mental health blanket or whatev instead. one of those alternate concepts#but I FEEL LIKE categorizing my mood / mental health day by day would do something to me#and I don't really want to tell on myself that hard. showing off the finished blanket and ppl going oohh... there's a lot of this color!#what mood are these two colors for!#and i'm gonna have to crumple up my color key chart and eat it before they can find out#idk maybe I'll still try that way. but temperature just feels more like. yeaahahhhhh go with the flow buddy#I bought a ton of yarn recently bc there was a black friday sale and I was grabbin skeins for $2 so I shouldn't really need to do shopping#maybe pick up another color or two. but I can probably just bust out my own stash I already have#sergle.txt#crochetposting

Not me as somebody who crochets on the reg getting criticisms/unwanted comments about everything I make:
"You always use the same colors" :/
Me: can't help it I'm a thalassophile and therefore I must always use beige, khaki, turquoise, teal, aqua blues, whites of all shades. Let the coastal creations commence!
"Nice bag. You know, that looks perfect to use only for holidays like Easter"
Me: ...my coastal bag is to be used every time I feel like it. What are you talking about.
"Those oceanic colors don't match with your current outfit so don't use it."
Me: it's not about what looks nice TO YOU but what feels right and fun to use FOR ME.
"Why don't you add (whatever) to your creation. It'd look great if you add (whatever). And, how about next time, you actually use a leather bag bottom instead?"
Me: I don't want to.
"You sure can't take a comment or a slight criticism. Why are you like this?" :/
Me: you sure can't mind your business.
"Why are you doing 2 projects at once. Finish one and start the other I don't get it."
Me: oh you sweet summer child ohohoho...you just don't understand the mind of a crocheter do ya?
"You know, if you make something for somebody it sure won't be coastal themed or whatever. You have to try something different."
Me: who said I'm making anyone ANYTHING? They don't want to pay the correct price for a hand-made creation so that won't be happening. Anyway, ONTO THE COASTAL THEMED SCARF!
#crochet#crocheting#knitting#knit#fiber art#fiber arts#yarn#yarn crafts#yarnlove#crochet art#usually those criticisms and comments come from my mother#lol#other people in public while I'm working are shocked that people still crochet#they're all OMG THAT'S A LOST ART EVERYBODY LOOK#mom on the other hand is all wow can't you try to idk do something else like use more pinks and purples#or my favorite: when are you gonna finish your last project#my mom even got mad at me once at one of my projects and said I didn't raise a daughter to look like a clown so#don't make things that won't match with your wardrobe#🤪🤪🤪🤪#family members get weird when they notice your hobbies#btw my mom doesn't have hobbies#she says she doesn't need any#she says Jesus is her hobby#that's fine but Jesus was a carpenter you know#Our Lord and Savior DID stuff on the side y'know 😂

I have sewed a few more blocks from the beach quilt, and I repaired a stuffed animal for a neighbor (no pictures because it's not my stuffed animal), but crafting updates might be a little sparse for the next week or so? I have a short week at work this week, a lot of work to get done, and I am getting my covid booster this week (we'll see how that goes lol)
#the person behind the yarn#the stuffed animal was a charmander! I fixed a seam#my neighborhood has a facebook group and I have a standing offer to the group#that I will repair any stuffed animal for free as long as I don't have to buy supplies#and if I do have to buy supplies I will only charge for that but like#I almost never need to buy supplies. Repairs rarely take more than a scrap of fabric and a bit of thread and time#maybe a little stuffing but I buy polyfil stuffing in bulk it's no big deal to give a handful of it to a neighbor to fix a plushie#I can't help with neighbor projects and I can't attend neighborhood parties so this is my way of like#community building? so far I've only repaired a handful of things#but it makes me happy every time I am so glad I can help

I laid out the crochet blanket I'm making for my cat, and she's lying on it even though she can only fit two thirds if her body onto it right now and this is making it all worth it 😭😭😭😭
#art#crochet#fiber art#would include a picture but i'm not about to doxx my cat (joking)#for real though it's only because it would ruin what little anonymity i have on this account </3#i got really worried that she didn't like the blanket because she was curled up next to it and would only rest her little cheek on it#if i had to guess i need only one more skein for the body and then i want to add a border and maybe tassels if i'm feeling nasty#i feel like she would LOVE tassels because she's playful and loves to play with anything but... i don't know yet#she almost swallowed string for no reason so i don't know if i trust her with tassels#the hard part is figuring out what would go well with grey and white though. like they're both neutral colours but still#nooo she's ASLEEP asleep on the blanket 😭😭😭😭#wondering if the border should be a hdc or a dc or a simple sl st though...#i was trying to follow a pattern that called for alternating sc and dc and i frogged all of it because it looked dumb on my yarn#so maybe i'll do a dc in honour of the pattern i did not follow whatsoever

Obligatory "This was a DIY-blog before a fandom blog and so if I wanna post my projects on here THEN I WILL AND YOU CAN'T STOP ME"-disclaimer
New blanket who dis
Another project that started out as an attempt for me to clear out yarn from my mom's stash, this time being some black Tynn Line from Sadnesgarn. There was a decent amount of it, and I didn't know what to do with it. Didn't want to work in just black, so I bought some of the orange yarn (while also doublechecking this was in fact Tynn Line like I suspected, because I wasn't 100% sure)
And I mindlessly started crocheting some basic granny squares.
Originally I figured I could maybe make a granny square cardigan, but once I got going I soon realized I probably had far more yarn than a cardigan would need (this was in fact a false estimate on my part because I am stupid), and I figured, if I had the yarn for it, then why not just make a blanket for myself instead
Now we all know and love the Blanket of Darkness I shared like a year ago, and let me tell you, I love that thing to death, it's a fantastic blanket and it has kept me so warm this whole winter. That said, while that blanket is fantastic in the middle of the winter, I did find myself kind of struggling during the fall and spring, when like. It's just slightly cold enough that I wanted an extra layer, but the thick, pure wool of that blanket was actually a bit too warm.
So when I realized I could make myself a thinner blanket, like, yeah, I wanted to take that. The Tynn Line is 53% cotton, 33 viskoce and 14% linen, and it's a thinner yarn, I used a 3 mm hook for the project. A perfect yarn for me to use for a fall/spring blanket.
And so I ended up committing to it, got more yarn so I'd have enough for a small blanket, and got to work. I think I started working on this around November 2023? Maybe December? Can't remember, foolishly I did not write down when I started working on it.
Now originally I was going to make this a striped blanket, but as I was going along, making those squares I started to rethink that plan a little
I also considdered attaching the smaller squares together to make bigger squares, but after asking friends for a second opinion we all agreed the middle design would actually look the coolest
Not that it mattered too much, I had to first finish the granny squares before I'd actually start putting the blanket together
But eventually I finished the squares. Each square is a little over 8x8 cm so the 10x18 square blanket needed 180 squares.
Now I have my personal preferred way to attaching granny squares, which is zigzagging down from one corner of the blanket to the opposite corner. But I wanted the blanket to look somewhat seamless, and I knew I wouldn't be able to do that if I just started attaching them one by one. So I decided to start by attaching all the squares into 1x3 square strips (as seen on the chart), and once the strips were done, do my usual corner-to-corner zigzag with the strips. This way I was able to attach the orange squares together with the orange yarn so the orange strips looked more solid, while the rest I could do with the black yarn.
Also I found out I had made four granny squares too many, lmao
But it was fine, actually. Because I did then proceed to finish the blanket, only to realize... It just felt too small. I just wasn't happy with the size. Like the blanket was fine if I wanted to wear it on my lap when sitting or something, but I wanted to throw this thing onto my bed to keep me warm, and the coverage wasn't going to be enough for that.
So as much as it pained me. I ordered four more balls of yarn. And made 68 more squares (those four spare orange squares did not go to waste lmao)
So the total went up to 252 granny squares as I extended the side by two rows and the lenght by one pattern repeat.
But yeah. Made those granny squares. Weaved in the tails as I went along and turned the granny squares into strips too while I was at it. And once done, finally added the extension to the blanket. Finished it off by adding a single row of double crochet around the edge. Badabing badaboom we got a blanket.
Now the blanket does have two sides to it, a good and a bad, because I was lazy and chose to crochet the squares together instead of sewing them with a needle. Had I done it with a needle it would've looked better without a doubt, but god damn, I did not have the patience, not this time.
So the backside looks better than the actual front, and that's fine by me
In anycase, I'm glad I finished this project, it turned out super cute, and now I have a perfect blanket to keep me slightly warmer as the weather changes ✌️✨
#Moon posting#Yarncraft Diary#Crochet#Crochetblr#Yarnblr#Oh and at the end I have like 15 grams of both the orange and black yarns (each ball was 50 grams)#And this took like 7 balls of the orange#Since I used the scraps from my mom I don't know how much black yarn I actually used/needed but definitely more#Since I used it to put the whole thing together in the end#But yeah. I'm so happy with how this blanket turned out. Even my cat had to give it a test ride the second I threw it onto my bed completed

Pattern Version B
Another little doily starched and pinned. The pattern said this would be about 9.5 inches square and it's closer to 16 inches square, which is fine by me. Because I was knitting with crochet cotton I wasn't able to do the decrease 6 into 3 without feeling like tearing my hair out so instead I did k3tog, yo, k3tog. It's very noticeable when comparing to the original. I don't think this version looks Bad, but the 6 into 3 certainly looks Better.
Regardless this doily is quite cute. The pattern was a little confusing to me (esp considering that I knit half version A and half version B), the edge mesh took careful tracking to make sure I was putting the corners in the right places.
#knitting#knitblr#lace rot#lace knitting#project: doily 12#resisting the urge to cast on another doily#i have yarn coming today for another hannukah gift! i don't need more projects!!#plus i have to finish my evenstar. i should work on that until the yarn gets here.

I got tagged by the lovely @sleepystede to make an adorable little picrew blorbo dude. Thank you for tagging me! 🥰
I was feelin' the spots. He looks like a little chicken stuck in a stress ball. Also this is a 10/10 accurate representation of me in a few weeks, glasses and noise cancelling headphones on, listening to @lindie-kninjaknitter's podfics while i wander about Japan ✌️
tagging: @jessystardust, @adickaboutspoons, @scorpiostarseed, @wickedlycaskett, @endevouring-to-surprise, @daria-meoi, @pumpkinspicepirates and sorry sorry sorry if i've tagged anyone who has already done it, and if I missed someone who would like to do it please just pretend that I'm better at this than I am and that I tagged you. (And if I keep tagging you for these things and you hate them, please tell me to stop.) *social anxiety jazz hands*
(I've been buried under mountains of uni work and only just realised that i've been tagged for a bunch of things! Sorry! I'm slowly toddling my way through them, thank you so much for thinking of me! ❤️)
#my little dude is so cute i love him#i feel like i need to go knit myself a two tone yellow polkadot colourwork sweater now to bring this shit to life#(side note i just discovered a yarn store that's only 30mins drive away and they have PROPER YARN as in more than just the basic#acrylic and cheap-ass wool that Spotlight overcharges for i drove down there today and i spent way too much money but now#i have enough Indiecita alpaca yarn to knit the forest sweater pattern i bought the other day 😭😭😭😭😭) also have i mentioned#how obsessed i am with kninjaknitter's podfics? because holy shit i honestly don't know how i lived without them#who was i before i had her fucking 9.5hr Synchronicity podfic saved to my phone? because i do not remember that person#will both of my 11hr flights be wall to wall podfic and knitting? yes. yes they will#but kate! - you say - don't you literally have 50+ books to read before next semester? don't you start your thesis in a few weeks?#yes. and yes. and shut up i'm going on holidays 🙉

one thing about me is i'm certifiably unhinged and instead of prioritizing a normal yarn weight for a blanket i instead prioritized COLOR (typical me i'm afraid but i wanted it to give 2022 reverse retro) and now this blanket is 325 stitches across and has tiny cute little stitches and i am going to develop carpal tunnel syndrome for real instead of just joking about it
#this necessitated several things including: doing a straight stockinette stitch instead of something more complicated#for the sake of like. not having to strenuously count bc this is a blanket for working on while watching television LOL#also because stockinette inevitably curls at the edges i Will need to decide at some point whether that is just a charming feature#or whether i want to add some sort of lining when it's finished to both give it more weight and to prevent that#but i kind of like the idea of the very lightweight blanket like i live in TEXAS u know. we'll see we'll see#i could of course also add a garter/seed stitch border but hand on god i don't know if i bought enough yarn for that LOL#meg.txtpost

Hey y'all! Weird question time again! What's the verb for punching a punching bag that is more general so it can include things like kicks and elbow strikes? Using the punching bag sounds weird but I am struggling to come up with another verb for it
#the person behind the yarn#I don't like exercising or working out with the punching bag as the verb#because like. I guess technically I AM doing that but it's not what I am doing it FOR?#I am not in this for the exercise I am in this for skill. I want to get my skill level back up where it was#which is up there with like doing handstands in terms of 'this is a very long term goal'#but it's still a goal! which means I am going to mention it again in the future#and then I will need a verb for it#and exercising or working out with the punching bag seem more like I am using it for cardio#I mean it is cardio but only because every physical activity I do is technically cardio because of the tachycardia#idk they just seem the wrong fit. though admittedly less wrong than 'using'

idk there is genuinely something a little bit funny how your body can somehow hurt from the nervous system acting up and your brain can be blaring alarms and you can feel yourself on the verge of crying and yet the whole time you're just kind of sitting separate from it all and being vaguely irritated about the fact that you have to get up and make a dinner for yourself
#today has been. a day.#but! i got to see a few of the old ladies from our yarn group out around town for the first time in a couple months! hurray!#and the sandwiches at the centre for lunch today were very tasty so that is also an epic win#but that nightmare i had has been fucking with me and the beetle issue has been weighing on me the entire time i was out of the house#and then. the spider. i didnt even know we had jumping species in the area djfskl i never rly thought about it before i guess#the spider is. an issue. for more than just the phobia. because it is also going to be like. hhhhhh. the brain interprets spiders as More#i can't ... shake that. especially since i've been hesitantly engaging with the More lately. so to have this happen today. i'm... sigh.#sometimes i want to reach out and touch the More bc life was better when i had it around but dear god i may just get sucked too far into it#and i don't rly want THAT to happen. HMMMM. well goddamn i'm going to have an interesting evening i guess#I HAD A SPIDER ON MY HAND. THAT'S SCARY. i keep remembering that and feeling a shot of adrenaline stab thru me. AUGH.#anyways oh well life goes on the wheel keeps spinning etc etc etc#meals must be made and eaten no matter the situation at hand! death will be patient and the body must be nourished!!!#pippen needs 2nd breakfast#spiders cw

2 day socks! Turns out I don't hate knitting socks, I hate knitting socks using fingering weight yarn. These worsted weight socks were pretty fun and easy, other than casting off entirely too tightly. I always forget I have to do the ugliest cast off known to man to get them stretchy enough to fit over my heel, but it's worth never having to do any math for getting them to fit.
#knitting#knitblr#I don't own sock blockers but also like. I don't make fancy socks lmao they don't need blocked#blocking socks is wearing them and then throwing them in the washing machine#i have enough of this yarn to make at least two more pairs with the contrast heel/toe#but will i make them? who knows.#it would be nice to have a bunch of knit socks and since they'd be identical if i lost one/dryer ate it it'd be fine#but convincing myself to knit the same thing twice is Awful. brain hates it.
