I'm a chaiogoo shill. I've worked at yarn shops, and sold so many chiaogoo needle sets. Hear me out, the cables don't have memory issues unless you do things to them that would break most other cables anyway. the sizing is super consistent and so is the machining. I got my first set of chiaogoo in the small size of their set and when I went years later and had to buy more and get the larger sizes, all my cables and needles still fit a decade later, and I've been able to easily add to my collection. They're popular enough they're easy to find at local yarn stores, or can be special ordered very easily. They're so good at magic loop! They have really smooth joins between the cable and the needle! If you use the t-pins and the grippies that come with a set (the grippy is relatively new, I bought my partner a set a year ago that didn't have it but sets I've seen selling this year have them) then they won't come untwisted at all! You don't even have to use the grippy assist, it just makes it extra secure. You'll be able to change your needle size very easily for swatches as well, if you happen to be too big or small. The complete set contains most needle sizes you will ever need, unless you knit a lot of fine fingering or lace in teeny needles, or need some fiddly mm sizes in the large range, and you'd have to special buy those anyway. The needles are made of stainless steel so they won't rust or break easily like bamboo. They're very well-made and can easily last a knitter their entire lifetime. I love mine and I recommend them to anyone who will listen! However, they aren't cheap for a complete set. I've seen prices between 215-240usd on the market currently for a complete set, and I think a set of just the large or small will run around 120+. Worth the investment, but pass on them if you are only doing occasional projects and can't afford the investment. For a lot of knitters, just buying the size you need as you go is much easier because of the lower up-front cost. A bit of a pain if you have to swatch a lot to meet gauge, but we work with what we have!
i seriously need to upgrade from my cheap acrylic interchangeables that literally pop off the connector while i am knitting so i have a very important question for knitblr
my current ones are knit pro/knitters pride trendz and i think you can already tell how i feel about them. the two listed are the two i have been considering most heavily. my main drawback on the chiaogoo is the price but i have heard amazing things on facebook so i want yalls opinions here

Not me as somebody who crochets on the reg getting criticisms/unwanted comments about everything I make:
"You always use the same colors" :/
Me: can't help it I'm a thalassophile and therefore I must always use beige, khaki, turquoise, teal, aqua blues, whites of all shades. Let the coastal creations commence!
"Nice bag. You know, that looks perfect to use only for holidays like Easter"
Me: ...my coastal bag is to be used every time I feel like it. What are you talking about.
"Those oceanic colors don't match with your current outfit so don't use it."
Me: it's not about what looks nice TO YOU but what feels right and fun to use FOR ME.
"Why don't you add (whatever) to your creation. It'd look great if you add (whatever). And, how about next time, you actually use a leather bag bottom instead?"
Me: I don't want to.
"You sure can't take a comment or a slight criticism. Why are you like this?" :/
Me: you sure can't mind your business.
"Why are you doing 2 projects at once. Finish one and start the other I don't get it."
Me: oh you sweet summer child ohohoho...you just don't understand the mind of a crocheter do ya?
"You know, if you make something for somebody it sure won't be coastal themed or whatever. You have to try something different."
Me: who said I'm making anyone ANYTHING? They don't want to pay the correct price for a hand-made creation so that won't be happening. Anyway, ONTO THE COASTAL THEMED SCARF!

I have sewed a few more blocks from the beach quilt, and I repaired a stuffed animal for a neighbor (no pictures because it's not my stuffed animal), but crafting updates might be a little sparse for the next week or so? I have a short week at work this week, a lot of work to get done, and I am getting my covid booster this week (we'll see how that goes lol)

I laid out the crochet blanket I'm making for my cat, and she's lying on it even though she can only fit two thirds if her body onto it right now and this is making it all worth it 😭😭😭😭

Obligatory "This was a DIY-blog before a fandom blog and so if I wanna post my projects on here THEN I WILL AND YOU CAN'T STOP ME"-disclaimer
New blanket who dis
Another project that started out as an attempt for me to clear out yarn from my mom's stash, this time being some black Tynn Line from Sadnesgarn. There was a decent amount of it, and I didn't know what to do with it. Didn't want to work in just black, so I bought some of the orange yarn (while also doublechecking this was in fact Tynn Line like I suspected, because I wasn't 100% sure)
And I mindlessly started crocheting some basic granny squares.
Originally I figured I could maybe make a granny square cardigan, but once I got going I soon realized I probably had far more yarn than a cardigan would need (this was in fact a false estimate on my part because I am stupid), and I figured, if I had the yarn for it, then why not just make a blanket for myself instead
Now we all know and love the Blanket of Darkness I shared like a year ago, and let me tell you, I love that thing to death, it's a fantastic blanket and it has kept me so warm this whole winter. That said, while that blanket is fantastic in the middle of the winter, I did find myself kind of struggling during the fall and spring, when like. It's just slightly cold enough that I wanted an extra layer, but the thick, pure wool of that blanket was actually a bit too warm.
So when I realized I could make myself a thinner blanket, like, yeah, I wanted to take that. The Tynn Line is 53% cotton, 33 viskoce and 14% linen, and it's a thinner yarn, I used a 3 mm hook for the project. A perfect yarn for me to use for a fall/spring blanket.
And so I ended up committing to it, got more yarn so I'd have enough for a small blanket, and got to work. I think I started working on this around November 2023? Maybe December? Can't remember, foolishly I did not write down when I started working on it.
Now originally I was going to make this a striped blanket, but as I was going along, making those squares I started to rethink that plan a little
Tumblr media
I also considdered attaching the smaller squares together to make bigger squares, but after asking friends for a second opinion we all agreed the middle design would actually look the coolest
Not that it mattered too much, I had to first finish the granny squares before I'd actually start putting the blanket together
Tumblr media
But eventually I finished the squares. Each square is a little over 8x8 cm so the 10x18 square blanket needed 180 squares.
Now I have my personal preferred way to attaching granny squares, which is zigzagging down from one corner of the blanket to the opposite corner. But I wanted the blanket to look somewhat seamless, and I knew I wouldn't be able to do that if I just started attaching them one by one. So I decided to start by attaching all the squares into 1x3 square strips (as seen on the chart), and once the strips were done, do my usual corner-to-corner zigzag with the strips. This way I was able to attach the orange squares together with the orange yarn so the orange strips looked more solid, while the rest I could do with the black yarn.
Tumblr media
Also I found out I had made four granny squares too many, lmao
But it was fine, actually. Because I did then proceed to finish the blanket, only to realize... It just felt too small. I just wasn't happy with the size. Like the blanket was fine if I wanted to wear it on my lap when sitting or something, but I wanted to throw this thing onto my bed to keep me warm, and the coverage wasn't going to be enough for that.
So as much as it pained me. I ordered four more balls of yarn. And made 68 more squares (those four spare orange squares did not go to waste lmao)
Tumblr media
So the total went up to 252 granny squares as I extended the side by two rows and the lenght by one pattern repeat.
But yeah. Made those granny squares. Weaved in the tails as I went along and turned the granny squares into strips too while I was at it. And once done, finally added the extension to the blanket. Finished it off by adding a single row of double crochet around the edge. Badabing badaboom we got a blanket.
Tumblr media
Now the blanket does have two sides to it, a good and a bad, because I was lazy and chose to crochet the squares together instead of sewing them with a needle. Had I done it with a needle it would've looked better without a doubt, but god damn, I did not have the patience, not this time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So the backside looks better than the actual front, and that's fine by me
In anycase, I'm glad I finished this project, it turned out super cute, and now I have a perfect blanket to keep me slightly warmer as the weather changes ✌️✨

Pattern Version B
Another little doily starched and pinned. The pattern said this would be about 9.5 inches square and it's closer to 16 inches square, which is fine by me. Because I was knitting with crochet cotton I wasn't able to do the decrease 6 into 3 without feeling like tearing my hair out so instead I did k3tog, yo, k3tog. It's very noticeable when comparing to the original. I don't think this version looks Bad, but the 6 into 3 certainly looks Better.
Regardless this doily is quite cute. The pattern was a little confusing to me (esp considering that I knit half version A and half version B), the edge mesh took careful tracking to make sure I was putting the corners in the right places.

I got tagged by the lovely @sleepystede to make an adorable little picrew blorbo dude. Thank you for tagging me! 🥰
Tumblr media
I was feelin' the spots. He looks like a little chicken stuck in a stress ball. Also this is a 10/10 accurate representation of me in a few weeks, glasses and noise cancelling headphones on, listening to @lindie-kninjaknitter's podfics while i wander about Japan ✌️
tagging: @jessystardust, @adickaboutspoons, @scorpiostarseed, @wickedlycaskett, @endevouring-to-surprise, @daria-meoi, @pumpkinspicepirates and sorry sorry sorry if i've tagged anyone who has already done it, and if I missed someone who would like to do it please just pretend that I'm better at this than I am and that I tagged you. (And if I keep tagging you for these things and you hate them, please tell me to stop.) *social anxiety jazz hands*
(I've been buried under mountains of uni work and only just realised that i've been tagged for a bunch of things! Sorry! I'm slowly toddling my way through them, thank you so much for thinking of me! ❤️)

one thing about me is i'm certifiably unhinged and instead of prioritizing a normal yarn weight for a blanket i instead prioritized COLOR (typical me i'm afraid but i wanted it to give 2022 reverse retro) and now this blanket is 325 stitches across and has tiny cute little stitches and i am going to develop carpal tunnel syndrome for real instead of just joking about it

Hey y'all! Weird question time again! What's the verb for punching a punching bag that is more general so it can include things like kicks and elbow strikes? Using the punching bag sounds weird but I am struggling to come up with another verb for it

idk there is genuinely something a little bit funny how your body can somehow hurt from the nervous system acting up and your brain can be blaring alarms and you can feel yourself on the verge of crying and yet the whole time you're just kind of sitting separate from it all and being vaguely irritated about the fact that you have to get up and make a dinner for yourself

2 day socks! Turns out I don't hate knitting socks, I hate knitting socks using fingering weight yarn. These worsted weight socks were pretty fun and easy, other than casting off entirely too tightly. I always forget I have to do the ugliest cast off known to man to get them stretchy enough to fit over my heel, but it's worth never having to do any math for getting them to fit.
