✨️ Out of the comments you’ve received on your fics, what are two or three of your favorites?

My fav is when someone comments on niche things in my fics. Like in Price you pay for power, someone noticed the tells I was writing for Eris noticing something if off with Nesta and her comments. Or the two people who commented they loved the “My Star” nickname for Az. Seriously I have grown as a person about comments and not viewing them as a level of my fics worth but they brighten my day and I cherish each one like it’s the most favorite one. They fuel me to write more.

🦈 Which character is the toughest to write?

The toughest thing I try to do with all characters is to a) make it believable canon wise and b) putting myself in their view points. If I write a limited POV everything I write is based on how I think the character would feel regardless of outside knowledge. Like From the Shadows, Eris thinks Rhys put Az up to flirting with Elain to keep her in court so Lucien would remain loyal to Night. We all know that’s not true but I think he would make that conclusion.

🧪 Do you research for your fics?

I literally spent five minutes making up a word and then googling it and translating it to make sure it didn’t mean something in another language 😂 so yea. Not always. Sometimes I’m lazy.

ik we joke about the incessant hand on shoulder moments and I genuinely can’t pin down either of their love languages bc their love for each other manifests in like every single way possible to me but. post near death experience i feel like they’re being so fr about the not taking anything for granted and just living life which has catapulted their comfort and open affection for each other and for dan that’s constant comforting touches or just being close to phil when he thought he would lose him at one point recently. they just absolutely light up around each other and i feel like dan got his time with wad but this will be phil’s first time really being out in the world and doing something post coming-out, post covid, and the way he’s emphasizing being more comfortable and confident in his own skin now i know that man is going to be absolutely glowing on stage, in m&gs, etc and dan (to a reasonable degree lol) won’t be able to keep his eyes off him. he absolutely shines with affection and pride any time he talks about phil’s blonde hair or phil believing in himself and I just. they’re made for each other and l can repeat it until I’m blue in the face but I’m just so excited to experience this new era with you all. they’re so so special and I feel so lucky to have witnessed their growth over so many years and how openly they love each other

Something about the fact that these shots are all grouped together, one after another, visually giving them equal weight just gets me. The narrative knows what's going to happen between JGY and Huaisang at this point, knows how it's going to treat JGY at the end of everything. And it still takes time to show Meng Yao instinctively and immediately going in front of Huaisang and Huaisang instinctively and immediately hiding behind him. It takes the time--literally, showed it in the background and focused on it with the same general amount of time as the other shots--to show that this act of protection and trust are just as real and true as Jiang Cheng defending his sister, as Wen Qing defending her younger brother.

Like, I dunno! There are other Nie juniors there! They have swords and shit! Huaisang could have gone and hid behind the wall, but he hid behind Meng Yao! And Meng Yao could have moved back with Huaisang, but he steps directly in front of him!

There's a lot CQL did to JGY's character and narrative that I don't like and that flatten or just straight up erase his full complexity. But I really appreciate the lengths that it went to in Episode 4 to explicitly tell us that he does not hesitate to protect Huaisang, even though at this point he does not have a sword and definitely does not have anywhere near the same cultivation power (if any) as any of the rest of the people in the room.

Right now, after being publicly humiliated, unarmed and definitely outclassed, he is brave. Along with the rest of the characters, he's allowed to be uncomplicatedly young and loyal and just as innocent as any of the other students there.
