put my fuckin guy in the combination persona 4 dungeon twewy plot dnd roleplay thing and it's awesome. mandatory persona 4 glasses made him pull his hair out of his face and it is regrettably very cute. he's trying so hard to keep the party from going off the rails. he's on the verge of sensory meltdown himself. he's a genius whose input is valuable. he's projecting and probably shouldn’t be here. he's so cool. he's visibly uncomfortable being around everyone else. he cast the level 3 spell Fear on a Shark Noise. yeah the one from week 1 day 4 that killed Rhyme. it didn't kill Rhyme this time, heh [puts on my sunglasses

Yeah, We are NOT doing this. No one should ever do this, and no one should feel like this is okay.

Please, please, PLEASE, do NOT white knight on my behalf. Pepper and the Dingbat's new Mewtwo have a similar color scheme, and that's where the similarities end. Besides I KNOW about the new Two, even before they posted it on Tumblr.

If you feel like a design is heavily referencing mine and want it to be known, come to ME. Send ME that DM first and foremost. 9/10 it was a coincidence, and the other 1 could have been resolved quietly.

Also, you didn't say "It's not cool."

You outright called them Unoriginal, you are the ONLY one who called to the fact that Ding's new Mewtwo had a color scheme similar to Pepper's. You weren't nice about it, and you sure as hell had no reason to stick your nose in the way you did.

If you had even looked through mine or their blog, you'd have seen that we have done collabs before, I draw their characters on occasion!

Look with recent drama and all that good jazz, I get it. But no one should EVER handle a situation like this.

To anyone else out there, creating Mewtwo's is a dime a dozen. Most of my OCs have very simple but easy-to-follow designs, and that's okay. it's okay to take inspiration, it's okay to want a Yellow and Gray Two, and it's okay to want an Alpha Mew. I draw the line when you copy/paste and adjust the color slightly. I draw the line when there is no difference other than a small little color change.

The Ring of Truth

“You seem confused, my chosen,” Arceus said. “What troubles you?”

“I’m kind of just… wondering,” Ash replied. “Mostly about… how you look, actually?”

“Pika?” Pikachu asked. “Ka, Pikapi?”

“I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with them!” Ash said, waving vaguely at Arceus. “I just got to thinking about it, because Arceus created the universe – you did create the universe, right?”

The Creator of the Universe inclined their head.

“Yes,” they said. “I did create the universe.”

“And I realized that, uh… most Pokémon don’t get to choose how they look,” Ash went on. “But Zorua and Zoroark do, and so do Mew and Ditto… and I was wondering about it, because you don’t just get to choose how you look, you… kind of got to choose how you’d be. Right?”

“...right,” Arceus decided, after several seconds of thought.

They pointed past Ash. “Are you going to actually ask me to resume time at some point?”

“Yeah, but I wanted to get some thoughts straight, and I haven’t had the chance to ask you questions before,” Ash pointed out. “Last time there were all the… you know, meteorites and stuff!”

He frowned. “Or was that the time before last? All the time travel made me confused – anyway, what I was asking was, how did you decide how you were going to look? Because I’m just… me, and Pikachu is a Pikachu, he looks a lot like other Pikachu. But for you it was a choice so I wondered how you made it!”

Arceus inclined their head.

“A fair question,” they said. “And I will answer it, my chosen. But first you must understand… as a transcendent being, I understand the nature of existence, and when I came into existence it was as part of a destined rebirth that took place both forwards and backwards in time. In addition to being the Alpha Pokémon, I am also the Omega Pokémon, and the fact that I am both beginnings and ends at the same time is what permits me to exist, when I created myself. In a very real sense, it is my nature as a being that is reborn at the start of time that ensures that all of existence may exist.”

Ash looked like he’d lost track, but nodded anyway.

“Therefore, how I was going to look was always known,” Arceus went on. “And the nature of that appearance is that it consists of two components, in accordance with the rebirth. And those are – first, a dial, golden and eternal and yet always changing, representative of the cyclic and permanent nature of time.”

“...right,” Ash said. “I think I get that. Right, Pikachu?”

“Pika?” Pikachu said, head tilting and ears twitching.

“And second, a llama,” Arceus went on. “For I am outside time and space, and yet a part of it; this is a Pokémon world, and so I am a Pokémon. To be born I must have a shape to be born as, and this is the one that I am most comfortable in.”

They raised their left front hoof, drawing a little circle in the air. “So, you see why the eternal recurrence of my existence demands these two parts.”

“...no, actually,” Ash answered.

“A dial,” Arceus repeated, intoning it slightly differently. “A llama. A reincarnating ruler and leader of the Legendary Pokémon… dial… llama?”

Ash’s expression did not change, and Pikachu’s only did because he tilted his head the other way.

“It’s funnier if you’re transcendent,” Arceus stated. “Anyway… when you drop back into time, don’t forget to ask Giratina for help, he appreciates being asked to help with things…”

The Dare

“You know the rules.” Brock’s voice was the last thing they heard before the door slammed shut.

“But we-” Ash fumed, his face turning a dark shade of red. He banged his fist on the door, yelling obscenities and threats at their group of friends. This is ridiculous! There was a reason he hated playing these stupid party games. 

Misty stood wide-eyed, watching as he paced back and forth in a frenzy. She should have said something by now, but she was unusually quiet. Why wasn’t she just as annoyed as him?

Desperate, he spotted a desk hidden in the corner of the room and began sifting through draws, searching for something he could use to pick the lock on the door. Spotting a paperclip, he snatched it off the desk and pulled it apart, bending it into a straight line.  

From a few feet away, Misty sighed and rolled her eyes. “It’s not going to work. You’re on the wrong side of the door,” she explained.

“Who asked you?” he snapped. 

Eyes crazed and fueled with determination and perhaps even some desperation, he twisted the paper clip around, trying to hit the tiny button that would release them. When he heard the fateful sound of the paperclip snapping in half, he balled up his fists and kicked the door. Leaning his head against the nearby wall, he slowly slid his body down onto the floor. His shoulders slumped as he closed his eyes.

“Why are you freaking out over this?” Ash lifted his head, narrowing his eyes at Misty. She shrugged. “It’s just a kiss.” 

“It’s not just a-You know what? Fine!” He hopped up off the ground, brushing the dirt off his hands. “Let’s just suck it up and get this over with.”

“Gee, thanks. I’m flattered.” Misty huffed, her hot breath causing her bangs to flutter in front of her face. “I just thought...Nevermind. Let’s just do this.” 

“Okay.” Ash took a breath. Stepping forward, he placed his hands on Misty’s shoulders. Despite the tank top she was wearing, her skin was warm under his palms. Ash shifted his gaze up to meet her cerulean eyes, tilting his head ever so slightly. “Ready?”

“Yep.”

“Cool, I’m going to kiss you on one. Five...four...three…” 

He gently placed his hands on her cheeks, brushing away a strand of her copper hair. From this close, he could pick up the scent of chlorine mixed with a more fruity fragrance. Coconut...Or maybe pineapple? He swallowed, trying to loosen the knot in his throat. Her eyes were shut, so she didn’t see him glance around the room, panic painted across his face. 

He was going to kiss Misty. He was going to kiss his best friend. 

But in Gary’s room? That just felt wrong. He quickly retracted his hand from her face, and her eyes flew wide open. 

“Why am I counting? That’s stupid. You don’t count down when you’re kissing someone, right?” At least, that’s what he gathered from the small amount he knew about kissing and his past experiences. Mew, why was he asking such stupid questions?

Misty tilted her head. “Have you never kissed anyone before?”

Ash narrowed his eyes. “What? Of course I have!”

“Really? Who?”

“That’s none of your business!” he shot back, only realizing after the fact how unconvincing he sounded. 

Misty shook her head. He could make out the smallest hint of a smirk. “Well, most people don’t, but you’re not most people.”

 Ash shot her a look. “You’re not helping.”

She threw her hands up. “Fine, sorry. Carry on.”

“Okay, ready?”

“Yep.”

Placing his hands back on her cheeks, Ash closed his eyes and leaned forward, bracing himself for what came next. Misty suddenly burst out laughing, turning her face away from him. 

“What now?” He groaned in frustration. 

“Your face,” she giggled some more. “I’m sorry, but you can’t do that. You look like a goldeen.” “Seriously? Forget this!” he yelled as he threw his hands up in the air and turned his attention back toward the door. Once more, he banged his fist, shouting at his friends he knew were listening on the other side. “Hey, good for nothing friends! Let us out right now!”

“Kiss! Kiss! Kiss! Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!” Their drunken voices chanted. 

“It’s hopeless, Ash. They’re not going to let us out, so let’s just do this already!” Misty shouted from across the room. 

He turned to yell back. “No!”

“Why not?”

“Misty, I’m not going to kiss you!”

“You want out of here as bad as I do, so stop being a wuss, Ketchum, and just kiss me already!”

“No, not like this!”

They both froze. The room fell into complete silence, not even the chanting of their drunken friends able to penetrate their thoughts. 

Shit flew through Ash’s head at the same time Misty said, “Excuse me?” 

“Misty, I-no I didn’t-I-I didn’t mean it like that. We can’t, um, you know. It’s not like-” he stumbled over his words, staring down at his feet. He felt like a pidgey that had been cornered by an ekans. He didn’t want to, but he turned to face her. Her arms were folded across her chest, and her one eyebrow was arched in curiosity. 

“Then what exactly did you mean?” she pressed him. 

“I mean…” he started, struggling to come up with an excuse. Fingers threaded through his hair in distress, he slid down the wall until he was seated in a lump on the floor. “I meant, you know…Ugh! I don’t know!” 

Misty nodded, although she seemed unconvinced. “I see.”

Since Misty and Brock had visited him in Alola, Ash started noticing how different he felt around Misty. He began to notice how she looked and how much he enjoyed watching her, especially when she sunbathed on the beach. He purposely tried to push her buttons so that the two would argue, and he could feel the heat as the intensity of their argument drew them closer together.  And his body would flush with warmth when they would brush hands while walking side by side or when she would hug him.

As Brock had unenthusiastically shared with him, Ash had a crush on Misty, and it was about damn well time. He wanted to deny it, but the logic was sound, and the idea of dating Misty didn’t seem so outlandish. But the thought of telling her how he felt was terrifying. 

Plus, there was the whole issue of her dating someone else. 

Seeming to either have some sympathy for him or, at the very least, acknowledge that he was distressed, Misty sat down beside him. Leaning her head against the wall, she closed her eyes and signed. 

“Look, if you don’t want to do this, and it’s, apparently, causing you such distress,  we can lie so we can just get out of here, okay?” Hurt and-disappointment?-flashed across her face. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to kiss her-the complete opposite, actually. In fact, he probably thought about it way too much. It was that, well, this wasn’t exactly how he pictured their first kiss. In his mind, it would have been much more natural and less forced. There would be mutual feelings between the two of them. Maybe a nice dinner beforehand that led to him walking her to her door at the end? “They’re probably too drunk to even question us.”

“It’s not that…it’s…I mean, won’t your boyfriend care that you’re kissing someone else? Someone that isn’t him?”

Misty shook her head. “It’s just a harmless dare in a stupid game. It’s not like we’re sleeping together.” Ash’s entire face flamed a bright red, but Misty didn’t seem to notice. “Besides, we broke up a few days ago, so I doubt he would even care.”

Oh. Well, that certainly changed things. 

“You did?” He paused to look at her. Why hadn’t she said anything before now? And why was she here and not moping around, making her way through pints of ice cream like he’d seen in those chick flicks she always forced him to watch? “Are you okay?”

Misty nodded. “It was for the best. We both agreed we didn’t really see our relationship going anywhere-no real future or anything, you know? Plus, I’ve been busy with the gym, and he was possibly relocating to Sinnoh. I didn’t really want to do the whole long-distance thing. Wasn’t really worth it.”

“Oh, I see. That makes sense.”

“And there’s someone else that I’d rather be with anyway.” Ash whipped around to face her, but she suddenly hopped up from the floor. “Now, let’s go convince some drunk people that we kissed.”

Ash nodded. “Okay. Fine. But you do the talking.” If his rambling explanation to Misty earlier wasn’t evidence enough, he was not known for his way with words.

“Sure, whatever.” Misty turned to bang on the door. “Alright, you got your wish. Now let us out!” 

From behind her, Ash sat, still slightly dazed by the whole situation. There was someone else? Who? Brock? Nah…he was too old for Misty, and she’d made it very clear that he was more of an older brother. Gary? The two did spend a lot of time together when Ash was traveling. . . 

The door started creaking open before it slammed closed again, an argument breaking out amongst their friends. It was hard to decipher what they were saying, but a voice-maybe Tracey?-was loud and clear as it shouted back at them. “Text us a picture, and we’ll believe you!”

“What?” Misty shot back. “No way! That wasn’t part of the deal! We did your stupid dare. Now let us out!”

Misty’s phone beeped in her pocket, and she pulled out her phone, her eyes narrowing at the screen. 

“What’s it say?” Ash asked, his voice finally returning. 

Misty turned the phone around to show him the screen. 

Daisy S:  Send us a picture. If it’s acceptable, then we’ll let you go.

Misty W: 🖕🏻

Misty took back her phone before furiously typing out another message. She waited a moment for a reply before reading the message and slipping the phone back into her pocket. “I texted Josh and let him know what was going on. He should be here in about 10 minutes to come rescue us.”

She texted Josh!? She texted her boyfriend-ex-boyfriend?

Ash didn’t mean to, but he felt himself starting to panic a bit. If Misty and Josh had the chance to see each other again, would they realize they missed each other? That they hadn’t wanted to break up? Would they get back together, causing any chance he had of dating Misty to disappear? 

Ash's mind was racing with thoughts and emotions, making it hard for him to think clearly. He knew he had to stay composed and sort out his feelings. He had to focus on the present and the fact that he and Misty were still stuck in this room with no Josh and their friends on the other side. 

Ash breathed. He had to get control of himself. He was spiraling.

“So…this other person?” Ash asked, trying to come across as nonchalant.

Misty sighed. “Just drop it, Ash. It doesn’t matter anymore.”

“Alright, cool. That’s fine. So…we just wait for Josh to get here?” Ash asked, trying to keep his voice steady. “And then what?” You two meet eyes and magically fall back in love? 

Misty nodded, seemingly unfazed by the situation. “Yep. Or we could, you know, just do what they say. But Josh is usually good at handling these things.”

“He’s good at rescuing people from their friends who are trying to force them to kiss?” Ash asked.

Misty sighed, her head drooping to her chest. “Yeah, sure, Ash.”

As they waited, Ash and Misty sat in awkward silence, not sure what to say to each other. Ash couldn’t help but wonder what had gone wrong between Misty and Josh. It wasn’t any of his business, and she’d probably snap at him for asking, but part of him wanted to understand more about her romantic history. 

“I don’t regret breaking up with Josh,” Misty said, finally breaking the silence. “It was the right decision for both of us. We were just heading in different directions, and it was better to end things before we resented each other, you know?”

“I get it. Sometimes relationships just don’t work out,” Ash replied, trying his best to sound supportive and not at all like he was trying to dig for more information. Which he most definitely was.

The minutes ticked by, each one stretching longer than the last as Ash and Misty sat in awkward anticipation, waiting for Josh to arrive or their friends to give up-whichever came first. Ash didn't know what to say, feeling a mix of relief and anxiety about the whole situation. He tried to distract himself by looking around the room, anything to avoid making eye contact with Misty.

Misty, on the other hand, seemed more composed. She crossed her arms and leaned against the wall, shooting occasional glances at Ash. Before either could dwell on it further, there was a series of knocks at the door. Ash jumped at the sudden and intrusive sound.

“Misty? It’s Josh!” Josh called from the other side of the door. Misty couldn’t help but notice that the previous chanting had come to a halt. “I got your text. Are you okay?”

"Yeah, we're fine," Misty replied. "Can you let us out?"

“Uh, sure,” Josh replied, uncertainty in his voice. “What’s going on in there?”

A series of voices could be heard from the other side of the door, but Misty couldn’t discern who was who as they quickly died down to a whisper. Possibly Daisy. Maybe Brock or Gary?

“Josh?” Misty called back after a few seconds of complete silence had passed.  

"Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!" called back at her, but this time, there was one particular voice she could easily discern from the crowd. Josh.

Ash’s jaw dropped to the floor, and his eyes flooded with panic as he sputtered out his words. “But…but he’s your boyfriend! Shouldn’t he-”

“Ex,” Misty corrected him.

“Fine, ex-boyfriend.” Regardless of Josh and Misty’s relationship status, Ash couldn’t wrap his head around why Josh would willingly join their friends. “Shouldn’t he be upset or something? You’d be upset if your ex-boyfriend were kissing another girl, right? That’s how these things work, right?” 

He would never understand how relationships worked.

“Would you just stop talking for, like, one second?” Misty snapped. “I can’t think with you blabbering back there!”

Ash shrunk backward, giving himself and Misty a wide berth between them as she started moving around, cursing silently under her breath. Her previously calm and collected demeanor had faded away, and it was clear that her fiery personality was taking over. Ash opened his mouth to say something, but Misty shot him a glare that silenced him immediately. Before, he’d been the one losing his mind over the predicament they’d been put in, so it was nice to see her finally feeling the same way. While she paced back and forth in front of the door, Ash sat on his bed and watched. 

Suddenly, her pacing stopped, and when she turned to face him, her deep blue eyes were ablaze with determination. Ash swallowed, terrified of what she might do. He was fully expecting her to demonstrate her god-like strength and kick down the door, but instead, she marched over and stopped right in front of him. 

As he’d proven himself to be earlier that night, Ash opened his mouth like a blubbering idiot, but before he could say anything, Misty grabbed the lapels of his jacket and yanked him forward. Her face crashed into his, and his eyes went wide as her nose collided with his.

What the hell is she doing?  

His brain was slow to process what was happening, but Misty was quick to readjust, tilting her face so that their lips lined up perfectly. At first, the kiss was clumsy, anything but romantic, or what Ash had pictured in his head in those rare instances he let such thoughts enter his mind. He was pretty sure they knocked teeth and noses a few times, too. But then, his brain finally caught up to what was happening, and Ash wrapped his arms around her waist and yanked her closer, the momentum sending them crashing back onto Ash’s bed.

Misty fell onto his chest with an oof , and for a moment, the two lay still, Misty’s torso and face awkwardly smashed into Ash’s chest, his arms still wrapped around her waist. Ash wanted to release a small groan, not from enjoyment but from sheer embarrassment. How was he messing this up so badly? Misty would definitely be running back into Josh’s arms. There was no doubt in Ash’s mind that Josh was more suave and romantic than he could ever be. 

“Is this okay?” Misty craned her neck to look at him, and she was so close Ash could see the light tint of red in her cheeks and the specks of green in her eyes. Was this okay? All he could do was vaguely nod as he felt his stomach tighten and all the oxygen rush from his body. Her face flushed a deeper red, and she wore a sheepish expression he’d seldom seen on her. “Sorry, I just…they’re not letting us out of here, and Josh kinda…well, you know…and you weren’t doing anything, which is fine, but I thought…”

He would never know where his surge of confidence came from at that moment. Maybe it was seeing her all flustered and tripping over her words like he had only moments earlier. Maybe it was that she had been the one to ask if he was okay with what was happening-that she hadn’t immediately gotten up and run away. Or maybe, it was the way she never let go of him, even as they fell. Either way, Ash gently cupped her face and pulled her back down to him.

Top's wounded inner child and TopMew's (play)dates

Top has a wounded inner child. He may look like a grown man on the outside, but inside, he is stuck here.

Top's reaction to freeze or go silent when emotions are high is very likely due to his fire trauma. When Mew yells at him, I thought Top very much looked like a child being yelled at by a parent. The way he avoids eye contact and bows his head. He feels indignation when Mew asks him if he and Boston planned this together, but he's unable to verbalize anything.

I wonder if his parents blamed him for the fire because it is very much reading as someone in Top's life expressed disappointment or blamed him at a critical time. Twice, Mew has asked Top for a reason why he slept with Boston and he can't say and again when Cheum asks, he can't say.

As I'm all about pattern recognition, the show is setting us up for this to be a conversation TopMew are going to have btw.

Top does take responsibility for his actions though. I initially thought that this was a positive sign of maturity, but it can also be a sign that Top had to take on too much responsibility at too young of an age. He does what he's expected to do, which is apologize, but he can't offer any further explanation.

What we know of Top's childhood is that he was neglected by his parents because they are always too busy working or socializing and he was alone when the fire happened. The responsibility of a household is so much to take on when you're so young and to deal with a crisis alone, no child should EVER have to do that. Parents are supposed to be there to protect their children, give them space to just be a kid and Top didn't have that.

Now, I want to talk about how TopMew's dates are actually helping Top heal his inner child.

TopMew's dates are all about introducing Mew to new experiences for TopMew both to experience together, but notice how they are all very playful.

They eat ice cream together, they go to the bookstore and share different parts of books with each other, they go bike riding, they even have sleepovers where nothing sexual happens, they play laser tag, hide-and-seek, dance like nobody's watching, sing out loud badly, drink neon green apple sodas together, and Mew keeps Top company while he sketches (draws).

Top's inner child holds all these heavy emotions from the fire incident, probably to the point that he can't remember good times he had as a child because he has spent an exorbitant amount of time here, fixating on that one moment. The result of which is years of insomnia, dependence on sleeping pills, a crippling fear of dying alone, and a fear of sleep.

I don't think Top & Mew did this consciously, but isn't it just absolutely perfect that is what their playdates (because that's what they are, aren't they?) are doing, giving Top a chance for him to connect to his inner child in a more lighthearted way than he usually does and just play.

“Three things strike me about inner child work: the speed with which people change when they do this work; the depth of that change, and the power and creativity that result when wounds from the past are healed.”

This space to reconnect to his inner child is what is helping Top move past the self-sabotaging behaviors and unhealthy coping mechanisms from before. Past Top would have called up Beam, Past Top would've fallen for Boston's manipulation. Before Mew, Top had a string of short-term relationships and now, he's thinking beyond three months.

The change in Top isn't because of Mew because even without Mew's presence, Top doesn't succumb to his old behaviors. This indicates that the change that may have started because of Mew, is now in Top. Being with Mew is what gave Top the opportunity to reconnect with and work on healing his inner child that now he wants to move past the things that were holding him in place.

This does bring up a really important fact though, change that is contingent on another person is not stable. Change must start with the individual if there is any chance for long-term sustainability. Maybe I'll be wrong and Top will self-destruct in the next episode, but he hasn't yet. He's still trying.

More on Clover's personality/mbti

So, I mentioned before how Clover's creative when it comes to a lot of stuff (more than they are grounded), but there's also the fact they can sing (that's how they spare Insomnitot), dance (not as much into it as Bailador, but they CAN dance), make puns (Gun-hat and how they wanted to make puns in the stable in Wild East; idk the exact line) are into drawing (in Axis' office, you'll get a text saying "You wish you could draw that well..."), video games (with Mew Mew) and they even know how to play the harmonica (from the teaser trailer), plus tend to zone out ↓

They constantly kept choosing kindness over what's right.

Those are PERSONAL values they have, that these monsters deserve forgiveness. I really think the inferior Te clashes with dominant Fi in their case. Clover wants to do what's objectively right and just, but at same time their heart is just too pure. They were able to empathise with everyone and get in everyone's shoes (also affectionate but that's a bonus) ↓

there's no change in their kindness from the beginning to end

Like if they were actually in court I don't think they'd act like a "typical" judge and deliver 100% fair consequences. No, that Fi kindness would ALWAYS win, like it did with Star and Ceroba.

Clover's Fi was always there, but differentiates depending on the route. In pacifist, they decided that everyone, in spite of what they objectively did wrong, should be forgiven and understood. In neutral, they decide whose actions were moral enough to get spared, and whose weren't. In geno, instead of killing five monsters, they wipe out anyone THEY think is in their way.

If they were Ti dominant they'd naturally be a lot more rigid and have/show a lot less empathy, imo. The Te inferior is present in geno bc they think they are dealing with the events in the outside world objectively, but the Fi is still there, that's why they don't stop killing: THEY are the one who thinks it should be this way. Clover wants to influence/control the outer world (Te; they don't spend a lot of time dwelling on their actions, unlike Ti users, Clover's a lot more forceful) based on how they subjectively think things should be (still that Fi except that it manifests differently than in pacifist). Clover as a thinker would naturally be more detached from emotions, but they're... they're not. Even in the beginning.

Inferior Te present their Fi opinions like they are objective Te facts - I found this line and it instantly reminded me of geno Clover. "Yeah, I'm right for killing everyone, even though I'm really not"

Clover becomes like a "manager of justice" when in their dark side. You step outta line, you're dead - that's kinda the "structure" I think we're talking about here. Still values over how logically to assess a situation, though. Ceroba calls them naive.

This means that Clover WANTS.... no, ALWAYS WANTED to approach the "missing children" situation like they're in control, but in reality, they were without a clear plan of what to do and how to do it. That's inferior Te.

On the contrary, in the vengance route, they step into their inferior function and take control... but at what cost.

As for their Si, we have the fact Clover remembers their past home life, remembers cramped living conditions, their responsibilities at home, the TV channel they "watched"...

All this stuff from the past contributed to them leaving for the Underground (aka affected their future). I really really don't think Clover has auxiliary Se. That would mean they're usually present-focused. But no, this kid's thought process feels more complex to me. As explained, Se mostly focuses on what's in front of them; Clover, while in the present, can think of the past (their home life), which then influences their future (jumping down Mt. Ebott). And when in the present, they can think of the far future (dying during their mission and therefore never coming back home or becoming an adult, and in the end the potential freedom of monsterkind) and recall the past vividly (all those things their friends told them throughout their journey)

They don't suspect Flowey's malicious, either. And even if some part of them didnt trust Ceroba, Clover never showed it or said anything out loud (not that i remember), and even if they did, they still chose to spare Axis since he is the only thing left of Chujin. That's naive, maybe. But Clover's REALLY REALLY REALLY sweet.

Speaking of Flowey... remember how he would often encourage Clover and tell them to have more confidence and that they "don't have to be scared" and "lean on him for emotional support" and that they should "have some faith in themselves too"? Yeah, that's the aspect of their personality that they had to work on; becoming the leader they were always meant to be.

Their arc feels like going from a scared kid to a great hero. Aka stepping into that inferior Te... the right way.

In regards to this ask....I think you're one of the few people that seems to get why the whole "Younger girl crushes on older guy which he may or may not reciprocate" thing I've seen in Magical Girl & Shoujo genres even exists to begin with. Like, 9 times out of 10 when I see this brought up, it's usually pretty negative like "eugh gross, why is this even in there?!?! the creator must be a pedo" or some shit like that.

Like, the thing about power fantasies is that, when it comes to boys’ power fantasies, people point out things like “is this setting up unfair or even dangerous expectations?” far less. People are more likely to think a boy audience can, in fact, realize that they shouldn't emulate wish fulfilment protagonists wholesale. But the instant the audience is girls, they can't tell that some stuff they see on TV is exaggerated and unrealistic and shouldn't be emulated wholesale.

Some of this can be explained by target audience confusion. People tend to think magical girl shows are for preschoolers, with whom you do need to be careful with what you show them due to them being more impressionable. But, like, despite their sparkly exteriors, most magical girl shows are for school-aged kids, often specifically teenagers. The protagonists of these shows deal with the kind of problems teenagers do and a lot of the monsters are genuinely scary. They combine seriously tackled romance subplots, body image issues and other topics relating to growing up, with unsettling creatures and character death. Miraculous might be made for toddlers, but Sailor Moon, Tokyo Mew Mew and Shugo Chara weren't.

There's also this common thing with YouTube channels where they will ape the popular opinions to get connected to other popular videos and to make loud, angry people feel vindicated. You want to do these things as a YouTube creator because otherwise you'll get ignored or buried in negativity. The purity crusaders, in particular, are a powerful demographic where they're easy to validate and draw to your content but difficult to please in the long run. These people love accusations of pedophilia and grooming because it feeds that angry part of the human brain that gets a rush when something makes you really mad and makes you feel vindicated and justified in your anger because you're mad about an actually bad thing. They also think hating on "problematic" media means they're doing something to help against real-life abusers, somehow.

There's also this thing about Acceptable Targets. Very few people will say bullying groomers is wrong, even when the only evidence of grooming is a random YouTuber’s word, since they couldn’t possibly just be making shit up looking for clout. The audience looking for acceptable targets, is specifically looking for acceptable targets to bully. If someone’s done something wrong, they’re in the right for attacking, because they're attacking a bad person who deserves it. For old anime with no creators online, it's most likely going to be fans of these properties. The thing about these kinds of people is that they're always looking for a new fix of that high they get when they “win” and feel superior to someone else, and these audiences will attack the hand that feeds them the drama. You make one mistake, or you just don't join in, and then you're part of the problem, and next they'll attack you for “siding with the pedos”.

I’ve actually seen that thumbnail before and checked this channel out. They’re basically feeding the hate army. It’s full of click-bait videos: bad faith takes, “theories” and using “#” in the titles. It’s also a new channel so this is clearly a person who’s trying to create a large following with easy, pandering hate content at the more popular hate targets at the moment. This channel’s only been around for five months and there’s already five videos shitting on Hazbin Hotel, which just tells you everything you need to know.

In case it doesn’t, Hazbin Hotel is the new “not good enough queer show that’s therefore evil and has to be destroyed” and also “prominent queer show that’s therefore evil and has to be destroyed”, hated by both bigots and progressives (just like High Guardian Spice before it).

Shan! After today’s episode of Only Friends, I have the feeling that I’ve lost a sense of the endgame of this series. I think I was under the impression — from the promos, the tweets, etc. — that we were going to get a summarily messy ending, with a whole bunch of toxic threads needing to be unwound. I’m intrigued by my thoughts on this — and maybe a touch concerned that we might end up getting morality stories out of this. By the time we roll around to an episode 10 or 11, what are your thoughts on a viewer not having a sense — not even of where the journey will end — but also of what the meaning of the journey was in the first place? I wonder if, in successful show construction, if I would have had a stronger and clearer sense of this earlier in the series?

Typically, we do have a strong sense of a show’s arc and narrative beats by this point in a story, but Only Friends specifically does not follow bl beats, so it’s always been a little bit its own beast. That said, it’s funny that you ask this now because after this week, I do feel like I have a sense of where this is going and I’m not sure how I feel about it. Namely, I am now fairly confident that we’re headed toward an ending with all three couples together and happyish, if not purely happy. The way this episode was structured to lead us into the final arc points to the end game conflicts—Boston and Nick figuring out where they stand on monogamy and distance, Mew deciding whether he can truly forgive Top, Ray trying rehab and Sand getting his head spun by Boeing—playing out next week, leaving the finale for resolutions and probably some kind of final word on this group of friends who barely seem to like each other.

I feel mixed about this suspicion because to me, happy endings all around doesn’t feel totally aligned with the spirit of this show and some of its themes. It feels a bit like the character arcs have been adjusted as we go, so that if you returned to the beginning and tried to draw a straight line to where we’re landing, it wouldn’t entirely track. But I’m also aware that this show has been unusually shaped by external forces like branded pairs and fan reactions.

In recent interviews the show’s creators, Jojo and Ninew, shared a few things that made a lot of this click for me:

Their original vision for this show was intended to be cast entirely with supporting actors and not bl pairs (this is why Neo and Mark were first in)

When they realized they were getting branded pairs they they were surprised and tweaked the characters and story to fit them (I’d bet money this rehab arc for Ray was added once they knew Khaotung was playing him)

Jojo allows the actors and their management to view their scenes (he said this specifically about sex scenes, but it may include others as well) and anything they are uncomfortable with doesn’t get put in the show

They have been tracking fan reactions closely and have incorporated those reactions into their final editing decisions (for example, removing a scene of Top hooking up with a random because people already hated him more than expected)

For me, all of this adds up to the conclusion that the show has in fact changed pretty significantly from their original vision, and those changes have been in the direction of a more conventional ending that will align with expectations for bls with branded pairs. In the end, branded pairs are a capitalist endeavor and they can’t let OF damage the brands. So while I do think the show has done more than any that came before it to push the boundaries of these constraints, they’re not going to be able to go all the way. The pairs need to end up in a good enough place that fans don’t want to burn GMMTV to the ground and the actors’ next projects are still set up for success.

So to your original question: I think the tension you’re feeling about the show’s overall point is a result of these changes creators are making as they bow to external forces. I personally think, given the constraints they are juggling, that they’ve still kept the story and its themes pretty legible, and some of the messaging is landing very consistently. But Only Friends is clearly not purely uncompromised art, it’s serving a lot of different needs and motivations.

I don't have much to say. Pichu's (Pili in my fic) designs are so cute! Any of them was better than the end, so now it's time to draw Pili in each of her intended appearances.

I just have one thing to point out, it's more mine than something important and objective... But damn it! Apparently, The sign that Damos wore on his necklace was, so to speak, "the family crest."Which, while not obvious, was a valid possibility, however, what bothers me is, Oh my God, I didn't hit that!

It was such a fact that I didn't consider this, that the family crest of Mew's chosen ones is just a poorly done modification of a real-life surname, while the sign on the necklace... Well, I programmed it with a meaning completely unrelated to anything religious or familiar and yes, I know you're thinking "it's your fanfic, you can tell the canon to hell" but As I said, that's more my thing and I don't even understand why I'm so upset, but oh well, I'll get over it.

And here's the icing on the cake... Marcus' concept design... My god, what did they do to my boy.

Ok, I realize that the artists had it in for Marcus' hairstyle from the beginning.

Apparently, they wanted him to look like Cyrius here and to be honest, it's good that this stayed as a concept.

The face looks awful and the rest is very meh.It's good that they put the crown on his forehead to at least make the design more tolerable,I also appreciate that they added the bandages on his arms since then everyone comes up with a bold and dramatic head canon (if I got a quarter for every time I heard a cool head canon of Marcus' bandages I'd have two, which isn't much but it's rare that it happens twice) and lastly, I prefer the clothing tweaks of the final design a thousand times over.

In conclusion, although they never really hit the nail on the head with the hairstyle, they did everything else very well and it's a good thing that the concept art was only about how NOT to do Marcus.

My boss Marcus He's too cool and handsome for this world, it's just his hairstyle that makes him so misunderstood, but other than that, everything's fine.

Mew: she treats her very well, she paid attention to Mew as soon as she got to Ivory's house for the first time (under Nyen's frog hat) because Mew is still a child, and Kokoro is very reverent and affectionate towards children, caring and worrying about them. She tells Mew many interesting facts about forest animals, plants, and all sorts of interesting stories about her work as a healer in the forest.

She also tells her different interesting stories and sometimes gives her different gifts, just to make her feel good, like a set of good paints and lots of good quality drawing albums, because she knows that Mew likes to draw! Also very worried about Mew and really cares about her. She's also sometimes very amused by Mew and Nyen's rivalry with each other, usually she doesn't take sides, but makes sure Nyen doesn't scold Mew too much for something!

Also she's very grateful to Mew for playing and babysitting her kids sometimes, Kokoro is really grateful to her for being so supportive!:3

Hitchhiker C: met him in the forest, often hosts him at her hut, they drink tea together and chat about everything in the world! Cherishes his friendship and finds him a very interesting conversationalist, once introduced him to her lover, but didn't understand his reaction to her new friend...and yet...she didn't really pay much attention to it :'D

Ratman: doesn't really know much about him. Because he's afraid of her for some reason...? But if they got to know each other well enough, I'm sure by virtue of their common cause ( medicine) they would obviously find common ground quickly!

Mew: knows almost nothing about Mew, unfortunately, as he hasn't met her in real life, only from Kokoro's stories.

there's been a lot of good meta on many of the topics below over this weekend but I'm not going to link them here - they will of course be in the weekly meta round-ups I make on Fridays

Ownership and control

Over and over this episode we had characters saying what they thought characters should do with their life - mostly Cheum and Top worried about Mew, but also of course Ray with Sand. However, we also had characters push back against the idea that people were owed an opinion or control over other people's choices - April tells Cheum that just because she is Mew's friend doesn't mean she has control over his life, Mew tells Top that his soberness is not Top's concern nor purview, especially given they aren't even together.

Other examples:

Dan, Nick's boss, texting him to say "don't get too drunk"

Ray telling Sand "You like me, you love me, you can't walk away from me. You're mine no matter what," Ray not allowing Sand to kiss or flirt with other people despite the fact that he is dating Mew

Boston hesitating to spend time with/hook up with Atom because Cheum doesn't approve

Boundary pushing and crossing

In the same vein: times boundaries/lines were pushed or crossed this episode:

Speaking about Mew to Sand, Ray says "at least he let me cross the friend zone line" (brings to mind the distinctions Sand tried to draw between fwb, friends, and partners)

Sand didn't reply to Ray's messages so Ray finds him at the university

Ray doesn't take Sand's no for an answer when he's trying to get Sand to join him in his community service

The job Dan offers to Nick involves a lot of overtime, and Dan is definitely interested in Nick as more than a (subordinate) coworker, he also texts Nick at the party telling him not to drink too much

Nick was blocked by Boston but he shows up to the party to talk to him

Sand and Nick made a pact to move on but they have broken their own promise by being at the party

Ray interrupting Sand's moment with the other Freddie Mercury guy at the party, asking if Sand slept with him, Ray inserting himself into the conversation and proposing a threesome

Ray kissing Sand without consent

Top undressing Mew after the party then climbing into bed to cuddle him while he sleeps

Boston taking Atom home even though he knows Cheum will be mad

Boundary setting

A few instances of, for lack of a better word, "boundary setting" I wanted to note too:

April reminding Cheum that Mew is a grown adult who can make his own decisions

Sand pushes back against Ray quite a bit this episode - e.g. telling him to leave him alone, refusing to go do Ray's community service with him (though he did seem to be worn down a bit at the end of that conversation, etc.)

Boston shuts down Nick when he approaches him at the party and rejects the idea that Nick is blameless/hasn't done bad things as well

Mew refuses to kiss Ray in private (which of course sets up the incredible moment of Mew kissing Ray in front of everyone to make Top jealous)

Mew repeatedly affirming it is his choice to do what he wants and other people are not involved/should not have opinions on what he chooses to do

Freedom

I also noticed "freedom" mentioned a couple of times this episode this episode:

Boston tells Atom a relationship needs trust and freedom

Mew says he has more freedom without Top in his life

And you could contrast this with the above times people were controlled/people tried to control other people (e.g. Top and Cheum getting involved in Mew's life, Ray stopping Sand from kissing others, etc.).

Accountability and responsibility

Continuing on our discussion of accountability and responsibility of the last two weeks:

Top says he doesn't want Mew to "mess up his whole life because of me" - he envisions Mew's recent lifestyle changes to have lasting consequences

Ray seems quite chill when talking about the community service he has to do (his main concern seems to be that it is boring), and he does drugs at the party despite that being risky given he was just arrested for drunk driving

Sand says he accompanied Nick to the party because he feels bad for how he hurt Nick

Cheum lays into Ray for doing drugs at the party; he tells her to "loosen up" and she tells him to "learn some responsibility" and reminds him multiple times that he is bound to get jail time if caught with drugs right after his other arrest

the friend group getting in trouble/visited by the cops because their party is too loud and they didn't file for permission for it

Boredom

After @waitmyturtles comments last week I was very attuned to any mention of boredom in this week's episode

Ray says the community service he has to do is boring

Mew says he is bored of himself, he thinks he is too plain (and this is why he is trying out a new lifestyle)

Ephemerality vs. permanence

Just a couple of the things I noticed this episode that didn't fit anywhere else in this write up:

Yo and Plug breaking up, Yo unable to commit to the relationship in the way that Plug wanted because she has been let down so much in the past (relationships have not lasted, people have not stuck around) - scared and saddened by the ephemerality of life she deliberately chooses ephemerality now to save herself heartache

Boston staring at a picture of him and Nick on the dock - permanent record of their time together, despite Boston saying he doesn't like photos taken of himself with partners, we saw this photo meant something to Nick too (he excitedly showed it off to Sand)

Melissa only hope for Mew to be safe and sound, though the fact the child is also a cat person and the fact she could defend herself, Mel doesn't really do much besides drawing with Mew and playing on her smartphone. Mel likes her, just that she is a bit..intimidated because she had betrayed and killed a ratman.

Reasons We Love Top Tanin

Earlier today I posted a breakdown of the scenes in which Top was SA, now I wanna give him some love because Top Tanin is a sweetheart damnit!

Also, what I said in my other post applies here too, we can discuss Top as a character, but blatant and random hate is unnecessary.

With that being said, here’s a list of Top’s best qualities:

1. His confidence! The first thing I loved about Top was how confident he was, you can tell just by the way he walks that he knows he’s the hottest guy in the room. Not to mention how sure he was in his pursuit of Mew, he never let himself get discouraged and always had an air of easy confidence no matter what.

2. How slow to anger he is, without being a pushover. We’ve seen Top get berated on more than one occasion, and he’s never been shown as angry in most of these confrontations. Besides looking slightly annoyed, he’s usually seen as being calm and sometimes even amused.

3. His quick remarks and comebacks. As I said, Top is no pushover! He’ll let people go on about whatever they feel, but not for too long, and he especially won’t ever let them think they have the upper hand. I love how he gets when people try and behave as though they’re above him, he always knocks them down a few pegs (as he should).

4. The pride he takes in looking his best. Top is well dressed, well groomed, and he just seems to take the best care of himself. He has a routine that he seems to do religiously, and he always dresses his best which adds to that air of confidence he carries around. Like I said before, he knows he’s the hottest in the room, and that comes from his own knowledge that he takes good care of himself. (I need a Top focused episode so I can watch his everyday routines in detail)

5. His general idgaf-ness. Top is not the type to get involved in drama, or care about what other people are doing. He’s not a gossip, and he stays in his own business until someone drags him into their own. We don’t see him pay attention to rumors spread by others, most likely because he knows how untrue they can be, but also because he doesn’t care enough to pay attention to it.

6. His willingness to grow and be better. Top is not resistant to change, he can evaluate his life, see what’s not working, and actually do something about it. If he’s wrong, he says he’s wrong without any excuses and holds himself accountable. When his boyfriend explained why he wasn’t comfortable with him doing drugs, he listened and decided to stop asap. He never went back on that, even if maybe he’s been tempted. That just shows that he’s always willing to hear genuine criticism and use it as a way to grow. Anyway I can talk for days about this so let’s move on!

7. How artistic he is! Top is a very creative guy it’s amazing, he’s constantly shown to be a talented artist. Every time we saw Top with Mew, he was drawing and being the artist boyfriend everyone begs for. I also love the fact that we were able to see him in his element at the hostel, the scenes were brief but they definitely showed how serious Top takes his artistry as far as his career is concerned.

8. How he cares for his significant other. We all know Top is #1 in the boyfriend department, and I don’t think that’s something that’s new! I’m pretty sure that although his past relationship(s) have been brief, he has taken care of them and met whatever needs they have. A good example of this is the fact he learned about how Mew gets his experiences from books and decided to take him on all these new, and creative adventures/dates to help him have real life experiences. He definitely will adjust to his partners needs in other to make sure they’re always fulfilled and happy.

9. How gentle he is. Top Tanin is a gentle guy okay? He’s definitely someone who would rather use soft touches than rough ones. He rarely raises his voice, he speaks softly but with enough assertiveness to make you listen, and he talks to his boyfriend so sweetly.

10. Him being a blatant sweetheart! I started this post just to talk about this, Top Tanin is the world’s sweetheart. He’s kind to people he doesn’t know without expecting anything in return. The way he would constantly reassure Mew? Sometimes he’d do it subtlety, other times it was obvious. When he gave Nick that advice about staying away from Boston, look he definitely had no reason for doing that, other than him just being a sweetheart. His active listening, he always gives his full attention even when he may not like what’s being said.

So what did we learn? Top Tanin is a Sweetheart, with some pretty likeable (cough loveable cough) qualities! These qualities should be appreciated more in my opinion! More people should see how good this guy is! I’m screaming this from the rooftops constantly, let’s all scream it together until Top hears us.
