I like Hisagi and always look forward to seeing his Zanpakutō in action ever since its first appearance, but the phrase "a shape that reaps life" appealed to me so much that Kazeshini became my favorite Zanpakutō. Hisagi exudes a strong impression of a character who is often toyed with, so I recall being very happy because he was surprisingly cool. Nevertheless, it's because my mental image of Hisagi was just as the aforementioned, that I also remember being taken by surprise after seeing Kazeshini. There are some characters whom I think have a Zanpakutō that is different to their image, and some characters whom I think have a Zanpakutō which suit them perfectly. So, I'm curious whether sensei creates a character first and then thinks about their Zanpakutō, or if it's the other way around.

This is a question regarding Ōetsu's line, "I know the whereabouts of every Asauchi" which appears in volume 59. I considered that perhaps this so-called "whereabouts" has three components:

1. Physical location ①

2. Physical location ②

3. Psychological & spiritual location

First of all, "1. physical location ①" is the storehouse where the Asauchi are kept, which will be distributed to those who will soon enter the Shin'ō Academy and become Shinigami or members of other organizations. Even in this case, it certainly would be surprising for Ichigo, but I don't think it's something to be that boastful about. This is because it is (most likely) a teacher from the Shin'ō Academy who takes out Asauchi from the storehouse and then distributes them, so it's not Ōetsu's privilege.

Next, "2. physical location ②" means that, similar to GPS, he can perceive the current location of all Zanpakutō which have been released from their Asauchi.

Finally, "3. Psychological & spiritual location" is the key point where Shinigami who possess Asauchi liberate their Asauchi. I believe there is a standard which dictates how far a Shinigami needs to go before they are able to release it, and I wonder if Ōetsu knows what that standard is for all Shinigami. Knowing the key point for the release criterion of all Shinigami extending from Soul Society let alone to the various locations in the Human World is truly an extraordinary feat which deserves to be called 'god-like'.

It's not the best idea to base things on personal impressions, so I would appreciate your opinion or answer regarding this analysis.

Which one is it? Since Shinigami do not harbor Kishi in the first place, they only have a method of treatment for the soul, and since the Quincy are living human beings, I think it was necessary to establish a treatment method that directly affects the soul through the Kishi.

what are your thoughts on the other freemans? like gorgeous and feetman ?

I like them all for the most part!! I need to keep researching for some of them, like actually watching Gorgeous Freeman past the first 2 minutes of ep1.

Feetman, I like as a character, but I think I might kick him in the shins if I was in the same room as him, he's kinna loud and fritzy. I really like how, like, caring/paternal he gets what with Joshua and Tommy and even Coomer sometimes. It's just a really charming and endearing character trait.

Gorgeous frightens me, I would hide under the bed from him, I think. I like the fandom interpretations of him a lot, I think he's become such a fun character, but I will still be hiding under the bed thanks. I think everyone who draws him looking kind of like Markiplier is objectively correct.

OG-man is such a funny creature, I love him so much, I think he deserves the world. He deserves to have a good hot meal, and a nice hot bubble bath, and the longest coziest sleep known to God or man. That said, he's very intimidating with that stern, almost angry resting face he has. I think if he looked at me like that I might disintegrate into dust like a Thanos Snap.

There are other Freemans or Freemen too, like the Google Translate one and a speed running one and the one that wants to save all the scientists, and I will eventually learn all about them and form proper opinions on them in time.

For now, all I really know is that everyone thinks the Google Translate one, Cicero, is baby, and as far as fandom absorption of content goes, I agree. He seems like a funny little fella who is very nice. I think we would have a really nice time chatting together and neither of us would know what the hell the other was talking about, but we'd have a nice time regardless. I look at THIS drawing of him in particular from junkbrainz and I'm like:

I dunno anything about the Speed Running one, I forget his name, probably Speedman or something, but I like to think that in a Freemanverse context that he and I/Hal would be very roadrunner/coyote-esque. Especially considering that Hal operates on cartoon physics, I think it would make a super funny background gag if Hal was just setting up these goofy-ass ACME type traps to try to catch Speedman or make him sit still lol.

I find it funny how intimidated I am by these objectively un-intimidating Freemen (OG mostly and Gorgeous, kind of) when by far the meanest, loudest, angriest and most violent Freeman is my beloved pookie-bookie sweetie pie. lmao. I relate so much to Freemind, I love him, I need to smooch him and hold him close tbh. He's so right about everything and all of his opinions on things are correct. I think most of all I relate to like, this ongoing struggle he has where "Everyone is an incompetent idiot but me, and my life is so much harder than it has to be because everyone is being actively stupid." ESPECIALLY AT WORK LMAO.

Ok... and finally I present to you all my (not very creative and I need to improve and change some details) tfa oc✨️✨️✨️:

Calamity!

She's a bit of a Decepticon spy, she usually invades Autobot bases to steal information and is rarely caught (when she is caught she just jumps out of the window, so she usually forces Starscream to go along, to catch her if something like that happens so she doesn't end up dying)

She loves to irritate others and watch chaos happen, sometimes she is a little mean and rude and ends up not noticing

She has these spikes on her armor and hat because she thinks it's cool, same thing for brands, she thinks she looks tough with them

The cables on her head can be used for various things with whatever is connected to them, they can provide energy (which makes her very tired and makes her have to rest), if placed in computers they can steal information and files and even put a virus there, it can suck energy (it already caused a blackout in a city testing how much it could handle), if placed on a speaker it can speak through it (it almost left several cadets deaf), it can be placed on a TV so she knows what It's on all channels... Various things

Loves watching (especially illegal) races (as said before)! Nobody knows but she's a fan of Blurr for his speed!

It's kind of normal to see her in an autobot base annoying others and even talking to those who gave up on catching her.

She can and will try to copy and remake weapons that she finds useful or cool (she has the design of the Magnus Hammer and Optimus's ax stored in her dorm but she doesn't use it because she thinks blue won't suit her) she even copied the "gloves" of Starscream, but says he copied it and is envious

Almost everyone thinks she will be relaxed and calm when they meet her, only to be hit by something seconds later while hearing an idiotic laugh, or feel judged, or she starts talking and can't stop.

Many hate her but it's not like she considers them enemies, for her they are all "good idiots" or "too boring to talk to her"

Maybe I'll tell more about her someday, who knows, it's not like anyone would be interested lol

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

14! One is a collection of a couple of short fics, the others are all stand-alones.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

204,153

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Tolkien, pretty exclusively. I don't know many other fandoms well enough to be comfortable writing in them for now

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Burn Like Cold Iron takes first place for everything as my only long fic. Then How to Cope with a Middle Earth Bed Shortage, What Could Possibly Go Wrong?, Customer Service, and A Helping Hand.

5. Do you respond to comments?

Yes! There are a few here and there that slip through the cracks when I just don’t have enough spoons to reply, but I do my best!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I write happy endings as a rule lol, so this is tough. The closest to angst might be Burn Like Cold Iron just because it will have some bittersweetness thrown in alongside the happy ending, but I definitely wouldn't call it an angsty ending.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Considering most of my fic endings are pretty equally happy, my favorite is The Floor Is Molasses, because I just want Boromir to be happy and hanging out in the Shire.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

A few times on FFN in the past. I’ve been lucky enough to avoid it almost entirely on AO3. Which is good bc it does not take much to make me cry 😂

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I have posted one (1) explicit fic and we shall NEVER SPEAK OF IT (I am easily embarrassed and it’s a miracle I posted it at all)

10. Do you write crossovers?

Nooooo, they've always intimidated me. Between all the canon characters and OCs I don't have room for anyone else!

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Oof I hope not

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, but I would be honored!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No, I haven’t done much more than brainstorm with fandom friends about plot points and stuff. But it sounds like fun and I hope I can cowrite something with one of my much more talented mutuals someday!!

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

I haven’t been super obsessed with a ship in years, so this is a tough question, especially since I’ve been focused on OC pairings lately. I’ve been pretty into Boromir/Theodred lately (but it’s such a tragic pairing and my poor heart can’t stand it), but hmm...my all-time favorite?? I'm a big fan of Nina and Matthias from Six of Crows, and Katniss and Peeta from the Hunger Games, and OOH Jaime and Brienne from Game of Thrones! There that's the one. All-time favorite. I did it. Phew.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I fully intend to finish my one ongoing WIP, Burn Like Cold Iron, and beyond that I really don’t want to start a fic I don’t think I’ll finish.

But I’ve written bits and pieces of a Middle Earth murder mystery I was really excited about, and I don’t have high hopes for actually fleshing that one out. I’ve never plotted out a murder mystery and would need to do some hardcore planning and plotting and scheming for it first and my brain is just not there right now XD

16. What are your writing strengths?

Aaahhh I am not good at complimenting myself (my therapist made me compliment myself last week and I almost cried lol) but I think I’ve gotten pretty good at writing engaging dialogue. I also am happy with a lot of my OCs, especially in my all-OC fic Something Burrowed, Something Blue, although I want to keep working at developing more complex characters in the future.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

My writing speed. I’m so slow. So so slow. Dear lord.

That and detailed plots and worldbuilding. Basically I need to brainstorm more before I start writing, and get a better sense for where things are going and how they'll turn out.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I could probably throw some Italian into a fic without much trouble lol. But Tolkien languages like sindarin honestly intimidate the hell out of me- I will jump through SO many hoops to avoid it. I am a coward

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Warrior cats. I was 12 and submitted it to my English teacher for extra credit. I had no shame 😂

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

It’s probably unfair to my other fics to say Burn Like Cold Iron since it’s so much longer than everything else I’ve written. So besides that one, probably What Could Possibly Go Wrong? I had fun exploring different characters’ points of view and sprinkling in lots of foreshadowing and dramatic irony for future plot points.

I /think/ I'll start another playthrough for the blog- I need to shake myself out of my constant slumps or I'll go mad after all :P

So what about Dragon Quest Monsters? One of my favorite series.... if you consider being obsessed with 2.5 gameboy games and wanting to try all the others "favorite" material :P

So Joker was "fine". It wasn't my favorite by any means- most of the changes from 1-2 were "meh" to me, but I did enjoy it enough to complete it with a pretty decent amount of fun being had.

Joker 2's intro got me hyped! It really felt like something I'll love!

So how about instead of playing Joker 2 as I logically would- I go backwards a little and play Caravan Hearts instead lmao

I know very little about Caravan Hearts, as I've hinted at before on the blog (if you count mentioning it in passing like 4 years ago).

I "Think" it's one of those games I booted up in the early 2000s when emulation started getting more popular, in japanese of course being a japan exclusive and all, but I could be mixing it up with me booting up FF legends and the like.

The most I know is that a fellow DWM enjoyer said it was crap many years ago when I was playing some DWM stuff on the blog, and I took that to mean it's "probably" experimental and easy to dislike lol

Starting it up I'll say I'll be playing the fan translation, obviously, from kaioshin on Romhacking dot net. Any "funny business" in dialogue or re-interpretations of events is because it's a fan translation and I will be experiencing it as it is here, not as the original text defines the game because they never bothered to tell us this tale in english and I'm dumb and can't read the OG lol

Basic intro, we're a kid (10 years old) who craves adventure. Instead of being native to a monster world (2) or coming here because our sibling was kidnapped to be a monster master (1) we come to the monster world to escape punishment from our father- the king- after trying to escape the castle to explore the (reportedly) very tiny world we live in.

Basically we're a bored prince who craves adventure, and we stumbled into an opportunity to do that while hiding in our cabinet... a fun nod to DWM1 :3

Yada yada, in the monster world now, oh look a caravan lacking a leader:

What a coincidence, we just magically appeared here and listening to kids in RPG settings is normal as hell.

So right out the gate things DO appear rather different from the prior DWM games I love.

The caravan is key to combat for one, and our team appears to be entirely shaken up from how the prior games played it.

Instead of befriending and capturing 3 monsters to make a team and splitting up responsibilities among those 3 monsters for cohesive RPG party stuff- it /appears/ that we will always have ONE monster who takes the main stage for combat (kind of like DQ1?) and the caravan plays the role of... equipment? Passives? I guess you'd call them?

You have various adventurers in the party who don't directly participate but instead act as assistant abilities during combat- I am too early in to know how deep or how much control I have just yet, but I can pick what order they appear and from how the first encounters went it APPEARS as if the order determines when they get a turn to assist (if applicable), MAYBE.

Regardless it means I have a warrior who can swing an extra time for some more damage, a cleric who can heal if their "turn" comes up and we need it, and a map expert who can buff(?) our speed during his turn and also gives us the passive ability to use the map on the overworld.

This, could be neat.

It could also feel like a less hands on version of a combat system that was already kinda hands off since I'm only leveling up 1 party member and the other party members are not /real/ and instead are just passives that happen based on order (I think).

Hm. Looking forward to finding out!

"something the matter princess?" She had a look of genuine worry on her face as she questioned you

"I just feel like everyone keeps making all my decisions for me! I don't want to go so I shouldn't have to..."

You looked down feeling defeated.

And your translator looked away blushing "what is it?"

"I-I have news but now knowing how you feel.." she took a deep breath "you're not going to like it"

You rolled your eyes again Turing to look at her and smiled "nothing could be much worse, what is it?"

"y-your father.. he well- well your father requested that you ha-" she was interrupted as a mandolorian walked in the room "who the hell are you?! Get out!" Your translator looked over at him "I haven't broken the news yet!" She whisper yelled.

As the mandolorian left she turned back to you "mi'lady I'm so sorry.." and it all fell together "no"

"mi'lady try to understand that this- well your father-"

You sprinted out from your hut only to be tacked to the ground "unhand me!" You started to scream and kick your feet back and forth "let me go! Now!" You heard a dramatic sigh "this is a lot harder for me then it is for you" the mandolorian said as he put you down back in the hut

"how is this harder for you mandolorian?"

"I just had to carry you back to your hut and I've only been on the job for 23 minutes-"

You groaned and threw your head back "this is so unfair"

"brat" you head the mandolorian mumble under his breath

" I'm sorry, but have you been locked in a tiny hut your whole? Oh and also, the only time you get to leave is to go somewhere you don't want to go!" To be honest Din didn't like the sound of someone being treated like that

Top 5 games you consider niche :3

Ooooh a hard one, because I don't really know what counts as niche or not.......... I mean I'm sure plenty of people think like Monster Hunter or Souls are niche, but I certainly wouldn't say so.... Hmm but anyway... I suppose I'll define them on a nebulous scale by whether it's something I can see people not liking but I do, and also how much I've heard people talk about it, I guess lol

5: Hmm well I'd have said Armored Core was niche before 6 came out, but now it's come back to the fore of From Soft's portfolio I'd not be so sure. However I will still include Armored Core: For Answer, since it's from the older generations and has a pretty steep learning curve with it's awkward controls, at times punishing difficulty, and very detailed customisation system. However when you get good (or watch someone else that's good), you're in for some extremely cool mecha action, with like actual human controlled full speed Itano Circus kinda thing ;p

4: Satisfactory! I know you know this one Mika, and know that it's a really technical and brain melting kind of game! So much maths required, but it's extremely absorbing all the same! I lost weeks to this game for real lol

3: The S.T.A.L.K.E.R series (but mainly just the first one since I haven't played much of the second one yet)! I really liked these games, but kind of wanted more from them in the end than what I got, but that's perhaps just me being greedy! Before playing them I'd not heard very much about them, but they're fun survival fpsrpgs! The first game was fun right up to the end where the translation broke and the final mission was basically all voiced in the original Russian because I guess the dub didn't get that far, as well as the combat and idle barks from characters throughout the game are very rarely translated either. But the clunkiness of all aspects are what I really found most charming tbh! The semi-open world, the cool navigation around the Zone anomalies, the monsters and factions, the tough item and inventory management, all very cool to me! I hope to springboard off into playing more Eastern Eurpean games as time goes by, with Pathologic 2 hovering in my steam library waiting for me to get too close. The only thing that'd make it better is if it were about lesbians travelling in the Zone! Or, wait, that seems kinda familiar...

2: Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls, and more generally Japanese, grindy DRPGS (dungeon rpgs, for the uninitiated ;p)! I've basically never heard anyone talk about these games before trying this one, which is very archetypical and relatively simplistic with it's class balances, being only 8 possible classes in a party of 6, but the dungeon exploration is absolutely addictive! I love it! Other games in the genre like Elminage have a lot more variety in that category, with like 3 times as many classes to choose from and stuff! It's moreso niche by my second category, since I've barely heard them talked about but I'd highly recommend anyone at all play one, since they're super fun! I'd especially especially recommend them if you like anime that has that kind of video gamey fantasy setting, and especially especially especially if you like Dungeon Meshi, since that very much feels like it's taking place in a specifically Wizardry drpg setting, with the way it goes out of it's way to explain and contextualise game mechanics from such games in a more realistic sense! Just very good anyway I will absolutely evangelise these games heavily!!!!

1: Fear and Hunger (1 and 2, but especially 1): This is the only one I knew absolutely it'd be on here lol. A very difficult and obtuse indie horror jrpg/dungeon crawler which really, *really* doesn't shy away from portraying sexual violence is about as niche as I can think of by my former metric. However, by the latter I have heard at least one fairly prominent-in-certain-circles youtuber talk about it. That said I do definitely think it evens out to be the nichest thing I can think of that I actually like! It absolutely has it's problematic aspects, depending on how you feel about the sexual violence in the horror setting and the perhaps kind of questionable mapping of fantasy concepts onto an Earth like setting, like with pretty much all the black characters being amoral mystic sorcerers (which I don't feel qualified to speak on but do wonder about any nuance). The second game does tone down the sexual violence at least a little bit, and prominently includes a textual trans woman as the box-art character, so that's neat. I definitely wouldn't recommend these games without a disclaimer to do some research and introspection about what you can get past in art lol.

at this point im not sure i will ever come back to i wanna tell you (but i don't know how) … it's an owl house fic that i started during season 3 but the direction i had planned doesn't feel very relevant anymore now that the show is over

i think dialogue bc i really enjoy writing it and it typically comes most easily to me! i would consider humor a strength too bc i have a very good time being silly

big one is speed. I'm just very slow 😔 the writing process is fairly painstaking for me, and it takes a lot of time and effort even to write things that are pretty short and simple! agonies

for the writing itself, i consider myself a pretty simple writer with a pretty simple writing style—which works well for me most of the time, especially since I tend to lean toward humor. but sometimes it feels like a weakness when i read a story with really rich, beautiful prose and i wish i could emulate that a bit more! when i'm trying for something with a more serious tone it takes a lot more effort for me to convey the appropriate level of depth I'm going for and i worry about going overboard and coming off as overwrought or cheesy sounding lol. along the same vein i feel sometimes that my characterization is a bit two-dimensional and i find myself wishing i could add more levels and depth to the characters. there's just a lot i try to balance in my writing and i don't feel like im quite striking that balance every time. which is fine because no one's perfect ofc! i hope this is all stuff i can learn to be better at.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

i generally prefer keeping everything in english since im writing in english. it just feels a bit smoother for the POV if there would be no distinction for the character, and i don't want people to be pulled out of the story if they need to google something

Hello! I hope this essay of a question isn't too long, but boy is it oddly specific.

So my friends had me tell them the things I remind them of (I offhandedly mentioned I keep a Google doc of the things everyone likes or has the same vibes of for gift inspiration when their birthdays roll around. They all emediatly wanted to know their Google doc info.) And each of them realized I associate them with certain animals (totally not because those would definetly be their daemons in another life, surely not. *frantically hides notes*) and they started making their own lists. And unanimously they all gave me the same animal: a hare. Specifically the punchy and uncanny kind, like a jackrabbit.

Slight confusion on my part as I'd always figured I'd be something a little more aggressive or mischievous like a coyote. Having taken the daemon quiz a fair few times, I usually end up getting either a jackal or a cacomistle. A jackrabbit doesn't seem too far out if my wheelhouse, but I'd never considered it.

I guess what I'm asking is, would you be willing to elaborate on why my friends might be getting jackrabbit vibes from me? Is there something I can't see that they are seeing? Like, I'm not upset about it I'm just very confused lol. Just if you have the time, no pressure. Thanks in advance though, I really love your personality quizzes <3

oh what a fun question! i think this goes back to how in the daemon community there's two types of forms: analytical forms and pullman (or symbolic) forms. analytical forms are the type that are most commonly used in online form finding. they take the animal's ecology and "translate" that into human behavior — so from that perspective, your daemon would be an animal that is rather similar to you in how they go through life. in comparison, the pullman form is based on how daemons were originally portrayed in the book. this is form finding based on an animal's associations or the cultural beliefs associated with that animal — in the case of the book's canon, this was largely western european, though modern daemon pullman analyses try to take all cultural associations with the animal into consideration.

a jackrabbit is a great example. someone with a jackrabbit analytical form is going to be introverted, sensitive, competitive, obsessive, somewhat cliquish, and anxious for starters. jackrabbits are rabbits — they're skittish prey animals. compare this to the jackal who's also introverted and close-bonding but is going to have behavior in line with a scavenger, and the cacomistle who's introverted and solitary and has behavior in line with a generalist forager. a large part of analytical analysis is understanding how these behaviors can be attributed to a human and that's where some of the subjectivity in form finding comes in. still, i think there can be some objectivity in, for example, comparing a pack animal to a solitary animal or a prey animal to a scavenger animal. are you someone who's socially cooperative and dependent or someone who's independently-minded? are you someone who's anxious and routine-forming or someone who's bold and spontaneous?

but your friends' observations have an interesting point, in that we often associate the jackrabbit with traits like cunning, luck, speed, and ambition (though rarely productive ambition). the jackrabbit's reputation goes back to different native american and indigenous associations with the hare: many tribes have stories regarding the hare as a light-hearted, clever trickster figure who is often also a teacher to mankind or otherwise a sort of relatable underdog outsmarting predators (see ableegumooch of mi'kmaq folklore, moskim the rabbit of lenape folklore, and the trickster rabbit figure of the cherokee, creek, and other tribes). other tellings of a hare protagonist such as br'er rabbit, aesop's tortoise and the hare, and bugs bunny help cement the stereotype of a long-eared rabbit/hare/jackrabbit as someone who's wily and clever, though can sometimes bite off more than they can chew or otherwise screw themselves over... but ultimately are survivalists who will always return another day. someone with a jackrabbit pullman form is more likely to be someone who's cunning, quick-thinking, curious, insightful, self-assured, and prone to spontaneity if something interests them. punchy and uncanny does describe them well, but these associations are quite different from a skittish prey animal!

the jackrabbit also has other non-personality associations your friends might be picking up on as well. the jackrabbit is a staple of the american desert and great basin, so if you're from those regions, it may invite comparison. if you're a runner or talk quick or are otherwise speedy it may remind others of a jackrabbit as well. and then of course i'm sure many of us are familiar with friends pinning us as an animal we like or own... the number of times i've been associated with horses because i rode them (and collect art of them...) is so high, though i don't think my personality or vibe is particularly horse-ish at all!

i think my ideal would be having a form that fits me in both regards: an animal whose behavior is similar to mine, but also something my friends would peg me as. i feel like we need an association of daemians who are happy to be super specific about the vibes we give off — i feel like my normal friends will compare me to something like a dog, and then i'll get weird about comparing them a black-casqued hornbill or a chital deer haha.

UPDATE: I realized recently that so many of my characters have purple shadow fog/smoke power visuals, which was kind of repetitive, so I'm now changing the color for some of these characters. Hanma's shadow smoke is now bluish instead of purple.

The parents of Kouka & Kuromoya, they're both shorter than their kids, given those two are both around 200 cm tall lol. They also don't look that old cuz both are beings that don't age like humans/I struggle making characters look old OTL

More info below: (unfinished, I'm still not entirely sure about the story with Hanma's family, its just some rough bits and pieces. Also no name for his little sister/Kiryo's mum yet)

Name meanings:

Rikka's name means "snow," and Hanma tends to write his name in two different ways; either so it translates to "Squad demon," or "Judgment demon," depending on the context of the situation.

(The OG version of his name is the first one, the second meaning actually comes from the moment he fought his family to save his baby sis and Rikka, where he called himself "the judgment demon" because he's a dramatic bitch)

Age:

They're both around 150 years old in human years. Rikka is considered to be in her late forties/early fifties among Kitsune, and Hanma's body is roughly equivalent to someone in their fifties as well.

(Murasaki family members aging speed/how long they live varies between individuals, which is common for elemental soul eaters.)

Powers:

Rikka has your typical kitsune abilities from fox fire to being able to shapeshift into a fox, creating illusions and possession. Rikka specifically uses her possession ability on inanimate objects for information gathering purposes, or to send messages to people.

She's also an excellent swordswoman, able to cut stone and metal, and even fire. She's also a good mentoring figure and as patient teacher.

Hanma can control shadows, his primary ability being forming arms or humanoid "soldiers" from it as an offensive ability. These soldiers typically share his inhuman physical strength and are capable of tearing people apart with their bare hands. His shadows can change consistency from mist/smoke to a more solid substance, and aren't vulnerable to most other elements, apart from sacred light.

He can also pull people's souls out of their bodies/see into them as a Soul Eater. He's learned how to use a sword too thanks to his wife, and is fairly skilled though not on the same level as her.

Personality:

Rikka is a calm, gentle individual who is very patient with people, willing to see other's perspective. This does not mean however that she's a pushover, and just because she might understand, it does not mean she agrees.

She is more than willing to put her foot down to defend what she believes is right, and call out one's wrongdoing, even at the expense of her own safety. She's good at reading people, which enabled her to become close with the seemingly arrogant and kind of antisocial Hanma; lot of his behavior stemmed from need to prove himself to his overbearing parents, who expected so much from their eldest.

Being bit of an optimist, Rikka wants to believe there is good in absolutely everybody, but also acknowledges that sometimes that can be impossible to reach within a person.

Hanma tends to come off very quiet, kind of aloof and dismissive individual, who's also quite arrogant. This was true for the majority of his youth, but nowadays he's learned some humility and is able to laugh at his own mishaps and mistakes, as well as take people's criticism a bit better.

He's very fiercely protective and caring towards his loved ones, and they tend to be the only ones whose opinion truly matters to him. He can be kind of curt and rude to people outside this specific select group.

While he's no longer a smug asshole, Hanma is still kind of impatient and can get easily annoyed by someone's incompetence. He tries to be patient with children, though.

Family Details:

Their kids ended up reminding Rikka more than Hanma, which he's actually thankful of, because he's 'kind of a terrible person' as he sometimes puts it.

Rikka taught her daughter how to swordfight as well, Kuromoya was less interested because he prefers more "hands on" combat as he calls it.

Rikka's family were generally known among the kitsune and spirit folk as exceptionally good fighters, often hired and serving as bodyguards for important people, or guardians for sacred places.

Rikka was assigned to be Hanma's sister's bodyguard by the family in fact, which led to their friendship and her eventually meeting Hanma and becoming close with him overtime.

Hanma's nicknames for Kouka and Kuromoya are "little fox cub" and "little shadow cub." (He does sometimes call Kuromoya a brat too though, namely because he is one lol)

Hanma is sometimes called "Grandpa Kitseru" by his kids adoptive son Yago in reference to his pipe. Yago calls Rikka Grandma Kitsune, naturally

Hanma actively tried to make sure Kuromoya wouldn't make the same mistakes he did when younger, once noticing the boy had inherited some of his more unpleasant personality traits. He mostly succeeded (with help from Rikka and Kouka of course)

Hanma was locked away as a prisoner by his own family at one point, due to basically doing his own thing and solving issues they had with murder. (specifically unauthorized murder, his family was okay with murder, just not him doing it without permission)

He later ends up killing them for trying to kill his baby sister and Rikka. The sister because she was seen as "too weak and useless" to be part of the family, and Rikka because she tried to protect her.

Th only reason the family had a dojo was for financial benefit/to discover strong souls to devour. None of them thought highly of using weapons, and being sent there to manage it was seen as punishment (except by Hanma's little sister who enjoyed being there)

Notable friends/Staff:

Erena: A Head priestess of a healing water temple they occasionally visit

Ayame: A snow woman living in the small mountain area their kids' run bathhouse is close of, Hanma saw her 'human death' while visiting Jade Town area, though he never brings it up openly, given his reasoning for sparing her soul and thus allowing it to transform into a snow woman wasn't that merciful.

Kiyoi: honorary adoptive child, a nature magic wielding witch boy they mentor

Yoruga: A moth spirit that works as a messenger for the staff

Yume: A shadow witch/young mother to whom Rikka helps to the best of her abilities as the more experienced one

EXTRA FACTS:

Rikka's aura color is yellow, whereas Hanma's powers have a bluish hue. This is why their kids' auras are green.

Hanma sometimes smacks/taps people with his pipe when he's annoyed with them. The only people he doesn't do this with even if irritated is his wife and daughter

Rikka's food preferences somewhat reflect her being a fox spirit; rabbit, duck, frog legs: her favorite berries are carrion berries too. She does eat other things, but these are her favorites.

Hanma doesn't eat human food that much as he's nourished by souls mostly, but does prefer vegetarian food/fish

Hanma basically taught his kids, that its okay to kill people if they're bad ones, which eventually sort of led them into doing the whole set-up with their bathhouse.

Rikka doesn't fully agree with this set-up, but understands her kids have to devour souls at some point, as they do need it to nourish themselves. She accepts this as long as her kids vet their targets properly and don't harm innocents/cases that might not deserve it.

You can tell how much Hanma loves his family just from the way he tends to look at his wife and kids; its typically the softest his face will ever be.

Rikka has tried to teach Yago some sword-fighting skills too, though so far he's kind of clumsy with long sharp pointy things.

If Kuromoya didn't have vitiligo, his skintone would be fully dark like his father's.

Rikka's main sword that she can summon has a green and gold handle with a swirly pattern on it. It is called "Kazeheki" which rougly translates to wind-piercer. In her dojo/while training she of course only uses wooden swords.

While Rikka is also a white looking fox, she is not an Arctic type like Taiga (another character in this story) and the main difference between the types comes mainly from their elemental power. Arctic kitsunes use ice and wind instead of fire/have those elements on top of fox fire.

Hanma despised most of his birth family, minus his baby sister he was always protective over. In a way this tendency was inherited by Kuromoya, who's also equally protective of Kouka.

The burn on Hanma's arm is from the time he had to save Rikka and his baby sister; he actually did it purely by using the swordsman skills he learned from Rikka/his baby sister who was also pretty good at it, as his powers were sealed away at the time.

This was an ironic twist, given the family used to look down on using weaponry at all (which was the source of his arrogance towards using swords in the first place)
