Hi Anon! I’m glad to know you find my blog informative.

Your question is a very good one. After so many years of being in the fandom, it never really occurred to me to create a master list of their joint interviews. And for that, I appreciate your question because it has given me the opportunity to put one together 👏👏👏

Here’s what I can share with you in response to your question - master list of GGDD joint interviews. I assume you meant interviews where they’re together. If it’s solo for each, that list will be miles long 😀

I tried to organize based on the timeline, picked the ones with English subs and full length versions instead of short clips and I tried to use mostly YouTube videos too. Hopefully, it won’t be restricted in your region and you can watch these clips

What are some of the biggest moments/clues/hints that bjyx have something going on?

Part 1

Hi, anon! I have three asks from different anons with related questions, and I think it’s something many are curious about, so let’s get into it! I’m going to make this into a three-post series, with the next two answers linked to this one. I think they are all necessary to get the full picture.

It’s gonna get long (and I’m just starting), so sit tight and get a cup of coffee. Nothing to see under the cut unless b/jyxszd.

Disclaimer: everything is fake fake fake, don’t take it seriously.

Wow. Where to start? There are many things in the bxg group that are going to be counted as “moments” (or candies), but here are the ones I believe the most. Of course, other bxg will offer other “hints” but these are all quite acepted in the fandom from my point of view.

Asking for “the biggest” is quite subjected to personal interpretation, since there’s no regulated consensus of which moments are true and which are not. That’s why I can offer what I think it’s widely accepted among bxg and that, of course, I think are “true”.

1) Interviews + bts videos

In almost any interview, since they started filming CQL, be it solo interviews or interviews they both participated in, you’ll be able to find “candies”. These of course, are much more subjected to personal interpretation and your views on their relationship.

To me, the interviews show that they are much closer to each other (even when they were just filming cql!) than they are to other people. They also gave a strong deja vu, but that’s for a following post.

Some of the best moments from their interviews:

In a solo interview (160 minute special, from 30:08-46:37, here with eng subs), in questions completely unrelated to dd, gg brought up dd in his answers at least six times (I think I lost count somewhere in the middle). If you compare them, when gg is asked about dd or prompted to add more details to his answer about dd, he’d end up rambling on and on, whereas in other questions he’s more concise. In his 16-minute interview, more than half the time (questions actually related to dd + questions unrelated to dd) gg is talking about dd.

There are several instances where both, when asked about “the most beautiful/handsome/looks good in costumes” person of the cast, they answered with lightning speed the name of the other.

“Wear kneepads”. The 9 minute boat video is also a treasure. Candies aside, I think it’s quite telling that they can have a conversation about everything and anything without stopping (especially dd, who was known for only talking about his interests). About the “wear kneepads” phrase, I talked in this post about how Chinese people express their love “differently” (love is love). It doesn’t imply romantic love per se, but... gg cares.

In the sina interview (190714, here with eng subs): they lied so much in this interview that even when I was just watching this interview for the first time I thought their answers were strange.

“Is she clingy?”, dd asks. “She’s not, you are”, gg mumbles (but it has been picked up by the mic). Dd’s face goes blank, but then he brokes into a small smile and says “I am...” (here the post with the video).

There’s a moment in an interview however, that belongs to a whole another category that’s the second greatest hint for me:

2) The “you have a bf” moment

For those who don’t know what happened: in an interview from one of their fanmeetings, the interviewer asked about one of gg’s old phrases (”if I enter in a relationship now, I’ll lose my job”). However, he didn’t remember it and both react very strongly to it. Here is a post with an analysis and a link to the video.

3) The informality

This is a pretty tricky one... but once you watch a few videos of gg with dd and gg with other people, it becames apparent very quickly. They’re so comfortable with each other that hitting and swearing (”are you sick/insane?”) is never taken with offense.

I think there’s an analysis somewhere, about gg and dd hitting each other. Gg hits, but with no real force behind them, and dd either hit him with his long sleeves (when filming) or with great force and speed, but not landing the blows. The few times he actually hit gg by accident, he always apologized profusely, pouring over gg (”where have I hit?”). It left no room to mistake about the good nature of their teasing and hitting.

4) The necklace

There are rivers of ink written about this one. I’ll leave a link to the best analysis I’ve seen here (both the OP and the response make a lot of sense to me).

In summary: mtjj and cp fans started to argue about the origins of the necklace. The company stated that dd had bought the necklace himself (this is the version most of the solo fans believe), but of course cp fans wouldn’t be appeased with such a weak denial, so mtjj started to say that dd should either stop wearing it or explain how he got the necklace.

It’s curious how dd escaped this situation by choosing a third option: he wears it hidden under his clothes. He wears it almost every time he appears anywhere. He even wears it to the sea.

So he can’t explain where the necklace came from, but he won’t stop wearing it either. That, at the very least, points to a romantic gift (from my point of view).

Once you start seeing the necklace, you can’t unsee it. The picture on the left is an older one, when he still wore the necklace openly, but he was still wearing the necklace in a recent photo (yes, both gg and dd has been nominated to the TOP 100 most handsome faces of 2020).

5) The kadian

I was introduced to this concept in tumblr, to be honest. I didn’t pay much attention to it, but when you see a bulk of posts next to each other... there’s a reasonable limit to these kind of things being coincidental.

But then, dd’s post on the 200529, the one about the smile with the colgate ad... that was very much on purpose. And his post on the 200521. Or gg’s posts in recent June: 200605 13:28 and 200612 13:45.

I have an ask about kadian sitting in my inbox, I’ll explain it in more detail in that one.

6) The clothes

Again, I thought at first that this was a coincidence. But then, there’s a limit for coincidences. They have a lot of clothes they either plan to buy the same one in different colours or it’s just the 23rd coincidence that with all of the clothes available in the world, they chose the same one in different colours or just plainly the same. (Here’s a good post with a compilation).

Another fact that convinced me is that many of them are “private” clothes they own, not clothes that stylists choose for them (in which case it’s most likely to be a coincidence, I don’t think they choose the clothes for a photoshoot, for instance). For example, the two sets down below were from photoshoots, so I think they were coincidences.

Going back to clothes they do share, it’s also the fact that gg wouldn’t have access or interest in certain brands and clothes, unless someone with certain interests recommended them to him or got them for him. So coincidental (again) that the only person around him like that is dd.

Or the fact that if one of them is wearing a certain piece the other has worn before (ie the coat), the other one doesn’t appear with it again. Moreover, the coat (left pictures) has been confirmed by the fans to be the same one. They asked the brand about it, and both gg and dd are wearing the same one (since it was discontinued) unless gg bought it 2 years ago and has just decided to wear it (unlikely).

Or the fact that when they appear with the same shirt/trousers, they fit them differently. Trousers are longer on dd, and the line for the shoulders are lower on gg.

Or the fact that sometimes they each wear the upper piece or the trousers of a set respectively (left). Another coincidence, I’m sure.

7) Gg’s songs and his drawings

Gg hides it better, but he still has this kind of gestures. He never fails to remember the lyrics (I don’t know whether you’ve noticed, but at the far back of every stage there’s a gigantic screen displaying the lyrics), but if he does “mix them up” it’s just another coincidence that it can get interpreted as a message for dd.

And last, but not least, we have this drawing:

Gg drew this in a program last year. It’s his “ideal life”. So, let’s see what’s in it:

Gg is the figure on the left, with his cat at his feet.

For someone who doesn’t know how to ride a bike, he included one at the right. Curiously, if you observe the shadow it leaves on the sand, the shadow doesn’t match the bike, resembling a motorbike instead.

So, why is a motorbike in his ideal life? It’s maybe related to the person who approaches from the other end of the beach? Does it look familiar?

He could have drawn a clear, tranquil sea. But instead, there are quite a few waves, which resemble greatly something bxg see written quite often (the last one is the first radical that forms the “bo” character in dd’s name).

So many coincidences in this post.

There might be an issue with that as he’s not part of Class 1-A (yet) so spending that much time on training a kid instead of his own students might get Aizawa in trouble. My personal headcanon is that Nezu doesn’t mind because Mineta is inevitably going to get expelled and they’ll need another student to replace him.

I think Kaminari’s still correct. The Nobel prize does not reward mathematicians because that field does not directly and immediately help Humanity in a practical, applicable way (this policy has been criticized over the years and does not reflect my own views on the matter).

The backstory I imagined for this is that Endeavor wanted to build up his image as a “family values” superhero because that was the one thing he could do that All Might couldn’t. So his plan was to coerce his wife and children into playing fictionalized versions of themselves in a family sitcom he produced, wrote and directed himself. An unholy mix of “Full House” and “Keeping up with the Kardashians”. He chose to film it in Bolivia because he heard that country had a special tax loophole which allowed him not to pay child actors (in that case, his own children). However Bolivian law required Endeavor to produce the TV series under a Castillian name rather than a Japanese one. Annoyed, Endeavor simply opened a dictionary and looked for words beginning with “Tod-”. Hence “¡Todavía todos Todoroki!” was born... and cancelled after only one episode. Endeavor considers one of the most shameful failures of his career and turns red at the mere mention of it. However the pilot episode did not fall into obscurity as Endeavor as hoped. Instead it has developed a cult following similar to Tommy Wiseau’s “The Room”. Fans post memes of the ridiculous TV pilot all over the Internet and perform reenactment during live viewings. Natsuo sometimes attends them to recount his miserable experience filming the pilot and to throw some shade at his father. Shouto is however too young to remember the shoot as it was produced during his enfancy (when Enji was still trying to “make the marriage work”).

Heroes and villains have to make an alliance of circumstances to sit Dabi and the Todorokis down for an intervention and help the real Touya explain he’s not an actor.

Another thing I loved as a kid were Rebus puzzles — those visual word puzzles which hide common phrases. There are hundreds of them on the bottom of this website but make sure to do them in order because they list the answers to the last set on top of the current set.

Have a picnic indoors. Get a video of the outdoors and throw it up on your TV. Then, on your computer or phone, bring up some birds chirping or other nature sounds. Put them both on at the same time, put a blanket on your floor, and have a picnic. Believe me, it’s worth it.

Watch a movie series in chronological order. The Marvel movies come to mind, here’s the list. But there are other ways to watch movie series rather than chronological. How about watching the Star Wars movies in “Machete Order”? Episodes: IV, V, II, III, VI, VII, VIII, IX. Or, for something shorter but still Star Wars, how about this amazing reimagining of the Kenobi/ Vader lightsaber fight. If only all the films were made this well!

You’ve probably seen plenty of places to watch Broadway shows but how about documentaries ABOUT Broadway shows? Here’s a list of some great ones to watch!

I was going to list only the best of this list but Gizmodo has so many good, “nerdy” ideas for free viewing that I’ll just link the article. It includes: CBS All Access, Quibi, Showtime, and Amazon Kids. Also some great places to read: Audible, Internet Archive, and Scribt.

Sports! Sure, the NBA and NFL aren’t playing live games but that doesn’t mean we can’t get FREE access to their Passes. The NBA League Pass is free through April 22nd and the NFL Game Pass is free through May 31st. It’s all replays and classic games but still.... free sports!

And Sir Patrick Stewart is reading Shakespeare every day on Twitter. It’s worth a listen.

TO LEARN

Interview your partner/roommate/child/parent. If you’re quarantined with someone else, why not REALLY get to know them? For many years my job was traveling across the country interviewing strangers for consumer product research. But why does it have to be strangers? Interview your family or friend. Really get to know them for one hour. Ask them questions that don’t normally come up in day-to-day life. “Greatest fear,” “biggest regret,” “dream occupation,” “if you had a magic wand, what would you change in the world right now?” And you can’t say, “Cure the pandemic!” Tip: Have them answer every question in a complete sentence so you can understand their answer without having to hear the interviewer ask the question. Plus, as my boss always told me: “No matter what they say, ASK WHY?” That’s when the answers get interesting. For an ADDED activity, take your interview tape (from your phone or camera) and edit it on iMovie. A one hour interview should cut down nicely to 10 minutes. You get the experience of editing (very easy on iMovie) and then you have a piece of history from your time together.

Free jigsaw puzzles! For adults and kids. And although I miss the hands-on feel of the puzzle, if you’re desperate, this is pretty good. Make sure to go to Full Screen mode. Makes a world of difference.

Game of Thrones, 8.05: The best possible outcome.

**SPOILER WARNING** This post may contain spoilers for the penultimate episode of Game of Thrones. The information in this post has been compiled from numerous leaks and, while it should be taken with a grain of salt, it might actually prove accurate.

I’m just gonna throw the disclaimer out there right now that @atimefordirewolves and myself have no confirmation of any of this. This theory post is just the combined effort of two people who had nothing better to do other than talk spec, online sleuth, and spend countless hours on Reddit boards, forums, and 4chan links over the past two days. We’re also fairly certain there are no scenes in the North this episode, mainly because the northern storyline is basically all tied-up and none of the more plausible leaks for this episode feature it at any point. We should expect to Sansa, Bran, Brienne and co. in the finale though.

This theory does NOT feature Jon killing Dany, or Jaime reverting back to his old ways, so if either of those things were stressing you out... You might find some comfort here.

DRAGONSTONE

Dany is grieving her losses, Missandei and Rhaegal's deaths especially, and she may be plotting her next move.

Tyrion and Varys are still weighing their options. Varys is considering plotting against her before she 'destroys' King's Landing -- he's all about the realm, that man. Tyrion is still adamantly against it, it seems.

Greyworm seems to come up and tell Tyrion that Gendry has arrived, presumably to forge/make something (dragon armor?) Jon arrives on the beaches of Dragonstone with the rest of their forces (and Davos).

There's some joking. Varys greets him, and a conversation takes place in which Tyrion lets Jon know of his concerns: that Dany is going to lose both her dragon and her mind. Jon reiterates that "She is our Queen and we need to trust her," and he gives Tyrion a cold look, as though he's warning him not to betray her. They probably agree to disagree. Varys is decidedly put on trial for 'betraying' her at some point.

KING’S LANDING - THE RED KEEP

Cersei and Euron. She tells him that they need to win for "his son." He asks how Tyrion knew about her pregnancy, but she brushes it off, saying that nothing will matter once they've won the Great War. This is probably(?) the final Cersei/Euron scene.

[SIDENOTE SPECULATION: If she's been pregnant since the midway point of season 7, shouldn't she be... you know... visibly pregnant? Personal opinion here, but I'm thinking she's full of shit and just trying to keep the men in her life serviceable; first Jaime, now Euron.]

KING’S LANDING - FLEABOTTOM

Arya and the Hound arrive in Fleabottom, where a crowd of people is being ushered in through the gates of the Red Keep, on Cersei's orders (similarly to in the last episode.) Jaime might be there. If so, he could be the hooded figure walking in the opposite direction of the Lannister guards. He shows his golden hand as proof of identity for whatever reason, but the gates are closed before any of them can get inside.

It’s possible Arya and the Hound have to fight Lannister soldiers to get inside. And she’s probably gonna swap faces at some point.

[Interestingly though, these three are all heading south at the same time but they aren’t featured in any of the promo for the episode...]

KING’S LANDING

Jon and company -- Tyrion, Davos, Greyworm, and their land army -- arrive, and he asks where Daenerys is. Tyrion tells him that she's on her way (via Drogon, presumably.) They face off with the Golden Company, who apparently have a hostage (identity unknown but some say it's Daario but? I don't know why that'd be?) The Golden Company retreats back into the Keep, and Greyworm says that they should "wait" before attacking.

Meanwhile...

BLACKWATER BAY

Euron is out on his ship, waiting for shit to pop off, and he sees Yara's fleet approaching.

From above, he hears Drogon's scream. Dany, now armored with a sword possibly, is out to destroy his fleet before her grounded armies have to attack King's Landing. Drogon is also armored, probably courtesy of Gendry. They both fly in, screaming, and combined with Yara's fleet, start their assault on Euron's ships. *Cue her signature theme music* He tries shooting at them in the air, but she manages to dodge every arrow. Eventually, he realises that they're "fucked", and his men start jumping overboard. It's unclear if Euron gets burned alive or jumps beforehand.

[SIDENOTE SPECULATION: Hopefully, he gets wrecked. But he could just jump ship and swap to Dany's side... I doubt it though.]

KING’S LANDING - LAND BATTLE

Daenerys uses Drogon to burn all the Scorpions and the outer gates to the Keep, through which the Golden Company retreated. Jon is apparently pleased to see she isn't going 'mad', as everyone thought.

Their armies swarm in, and it's all kicking off. [I take it this is just as the crush is happening on the other side of the Keep.]

The battle is brutal. Greyworm is unstoppable, and Jon is going full *Battle of the Bastards* here. The back walls of the Red Keep are also lined with Scorpions. They take aim at Drogon, and it looks like Dany is falling into the air. She hides behind one of the back walls, Drogon flies down to protect her, and Dany says "Dracarys", thus setting them on fire.

Daenery's army wins, probably thanks to dragon fire and rage-filled Unsullied. The bells to surrender chime, and the people of King's Landing surrender to Daenerys.

There's the suggestion that Tyrion betrayed Dany somehow because Cersei sets off wildfire inside the Keep. She gets triggered by the bells tolling, as it reminds her of her atonement, so it looks like she'd planned ahead, and she peaces out and unleashes wildfire everywhere.

Cleganebowl. They cross paths, and it's suggested that the Hound defeats the Mountain but is mortally wounded in the process. Don't know where Arya is for this fight, but it's entirely possible that she mercy-kills him when he asks her to -- throwing back to season four when she left him on the mountainside to die.

[There's no other mention of Cersei or her fate in the detailed Spanish leak where the majority of this information came from, but it's possible that she dies either at the end of this episode or in the first part of the finale.

Jaime's role in this episode in uncertain (based on these leaks and not those ones that ruin every character's story arc). According to the Spanish leak, he shows up at the end of the episode, visibly unsettled by what he assumes to be Dany's reign of fire. My problem with this part of the leak is that there isn't much to it, and I have trouble believing he's just gonna show up at the end of the episode after all the major shit has already gone down -- especially when his story is so tied-in with the King's Landing wildfire plot.

So, if we cross-reference leaks here, it's entirely possible that he either does team-up with Arya and the Hound at the gates as I stated before, he's paired with Jon as some leaks suggest, or he's just there by himself. But somebody has to be the 'hooded' person in the promo, and they've made a point of showing him blending into crowds like that (see 8.01). He must have an important part to play because Bran's "You wouldn't be able to help us in this fight [...]" speech doesn't actually work when you think about Jaime in the Battle of Winterfell. Like, he was good but he didn't exactly play a vital role there.

I'm leaning towards a team-up; all three know their way around the Red Keep and Arya has the advantage of being able to change faces. There was a theory that Jaime could get close to killing Cersei, and she reaches out for the Mountain to help her, only for the Mountain to be revealed as Arya. The problem with that is that there is no way in hell Arya could pull *that* off. But Qyburn? If the Mountain is slain by the Hound beforehand, and Arya kills Qyburn in the midst of all the chaos, it's entirely possible for Jaime and fake!Qyburn to get close to Cersei. Qyburn is short enough for it to be plausible and I don’t see him living past this episode. That would make Jaime the red herring, and Arya her killer. Or it's Jon, and it directly links back to Cersei's "What harm could Lyanna Stark's ghost ever do [to either of us]?" Arya got Jon's big kill, so he gets hers. Subversion, bitch.

Everything in the Spanish leak seems to work with all the stills we've gotten and the promo for the episode, and not much -- if any of it -- matches up with those more somber leaks. Which is fortunate, because those ones had Jaime dying in the worst way possible for his character arc to reach a satisfying conclusion.]

END SCENE

Jon and Dany facing off, lovingly. It's a long scene; Jon regrets coming down via the Kingsroad instead of with her, and he tells her that Tyrion doubts her sanity or whatever. It ends with them face to face, clearly contemplating their next move.

UNCLEAR STUFF

Varys dies sometime during this episode, either by dragon fire or by Greyworm on Dany’s orders.

If/when Cersei dies and by whose hand.

Who the GC supposedly have as a hostage.

How/if Euron dies or just swaps sides.

EPISODE 6 - THE FINALE

The big death everyone was gasping at is in the finale, and it's the 3rd WTF moment. It's supposedly Tyrion, when he's put on trial for betraying Daenerys. [We have to assume at this point that Cersei's already taken care of.] [Who's present at this trial is unclear, however, because they filmed different versions.] This fits with those leaks by that weird Spanish youtube guy, and with Emilia's comment that, well, Dany's final episode isn't exactly gonna be a crowd-pleaser. Sentencing a fan favourite to death will do that.

Compilation of interviews from DreamWorks staff, Dean DeBlois and Jay Baruchel on the TV series (ROB, DOB & RTTE) and its canonicity within the HTTYD movieverse

Since I still see some people asking or arguing about this, I’ve decided to look for some interviews across the internet and compile as much as possible in a single post. Bear in mind that some of these are a few years old, with the earliest from 2014.

Note and Disclaimer: Although I will state my perspective and opinion at the end of the post, I want to highlight that this is not to argue in favour or against anyone who considers it canon or not, but just to provide clarity to those who would like to hear what was actually said by those involved in the making of the franchise. Whether anyone wants to accept the TV series as canon despite what the Dreamworks crew and actors said, it’s entirely up to them.

Long post ahead so I’m putting it under a “Keep reading” link. This post will also be updated if I find anymore interviews in the future relevant to this topic.

How does the television series factor in to the movie franchise?

JAY BARUCHEL: One of the cool things about the TV show is that we get to go a bit more into the everyday life. We don’t have enough screen time to do that in the movies. We have a very specific finite amount of time that things have to happen in, in the movies. What the TV show gives us is the chance to put the audience in that neighborhood and on that island, experiencing the minutiae of everyday life for a Viking.

Jay, it’s very rare for the star of the movie to be involved with the TV show, as well. How did you become involved with the TV series?

BARUCHEL: Well, for me, there was no question. I didn’t want anyone else to play the role. I think part of the actor’s job is to take ownership of the character, and to be defensive and protective, and all that stuff. So, when it was first mentioned that Hiccup might have a life on television, it had to be me, in my opinion. What is really cool about the TV show is that it takes place in between the two movies. And so, when all is said and done and we walk away, we’ll have given the world a pretty full, complete story. Selfishly, it’s kept me in that mind space. A lot of people have been asking me what it’s like to come back to this character and come back to this world, and my answer has constantly been, “I never left.” I just love that we’re creating this deep, open platform that’s a multimedia world. What it all comes down to is that I just didn’t want anyone else to play Hiccup.

Groucho Reviews (2014): with Dean DeBlois and the cast

G: So as we move toward a wrap-up here, maybe you could all talk a little bit about where you see the franchise going. I know there’s going to be a TV series that shows us what happens between the films…

Jay Baruchel (JB): Uh-huh!

G: And then where it might go from there. I’m sure there’s a plot for a third film, right—?

Dean DeBlois (DD): Mm-hm!

G: Because it’s conceived as a trilogy?

DD: Yeah, absolutely. We didn’t want a sequel that felt random, or unneccesary. So in charting Hiccup’s coming of age, the end goal is to end up where Cressida Cowell began her books. Hiccup is an adult reflecting back on a time when there were dragons. And that seems to indicate that dragons will go away, that Hiccup will complete his coming of age. How that all evolves is yet to be unveiled. we just promise to do it in a very powerful and hopefully emotionally satisfying way. And then the TV series actually helps bridge the gap. So now that they’re heading into Series Three and Four, they’re going to use our older versions of the characters and begin to set up the year leading up to movie number two. So you’ll start to see Hiccup beginning to explore the outer limits of the Viking map. You’ll see the development of the dragon-racing games on Berk and other things: y'know, Hiccup’s dragon blade. All of these things will have a little bit more time to explain what they are and how they came to be.

Dean DeBlois could not be involved on a creative level with Race to the Edge, as he was incredibly busy with How to Train Your Dragon 2. However, they did continue to have regular check-in dinners with Dean to ensure that nothing in Race to the Edge conflicted with the overall continuity of the franchise.

Toonzone (2015): with Art Brown and Douglas Sloan

Q: You know the point you’re going to, the second movie. In terms of storytelling, is that a process you have enjoyed? Knowing where you end up?

DOUG SLOAN: Yeah, I think it’s really actually great. It’s almost like bowling with bumpers because you know you can’t go here, here, here. You can’t bring in Hiccup’s mother. You can’t do any of the stuff they’re doing in the second movie. You can’t do something that upsets the movie or changes it in any way. So you really do have a guideline as to where you can go and where you can’t go. When we did it earlier it was hard because we didn’t know what the second movie was about, and it was constantly evolving, so the series had to constantly evolving behind it, but now–

ART BROWN: And it’s cool because you have a line that you’re going to, but you get to do all this. There’s only a few ground rules really. You can’t introduce them to stuff they don’t know about yet in the second movie, and anything we do introduce, like the Dragon Eye, we have to get rid of it or else they’d be using it. The mom and Drago, stuff like that. Other than that, they’re out in another area, and we’re free. Every once in a while if we’re not sure, we’ll e-mail Dean or go out to dinner with him and say hey, are you cool with this? And 99% of the time he’ll say yeah. Or maybe he’ll say can you adjust it just a little bit because I’m going to touch on something in the third movie or I’m thinking about it.

Rama’s Screen (2015): with Art Brown and Douglas Sloan

Art Brown: “We’re in pretty close contact with Dean [DeBlois], the writer/director of the movies. We check with him when we’re going to do, before we do the season, we break into season, we say this is the direction we’re going to go, we don’t want to step on anything, sometimes he’ll say ‘Yeah, can you adjust it? Because I’m going to do this in the next movie’”

Doug Sloan: “We had much more of an issue in the previous iteration of this show because we didn’t know what the movie was really going to be so we were sort of writing in the dark but for the Netflix, going forward with Netflix, we know where the show was going because we’ve seen the movie. Because our show is the prequel to the sequel, so we know everything that’s going to happen.”

Art Brown: “We know what we can’t do in the series. We can’t have Hiccup meet his mother obviously. Stoick is alive, but we can tease towards. We can’t kill Stoick in the series, we can tease towards Drago or the bad guys towards the series, you get a sense that they’re working for this big guy. We’ll set that sort of stuff up, there’s just certain things that we stay away from but like Doug said, that’s kind of self-explanatory, I guess.”

Doug Sloan: “The great thing is we get to introduce things like the flight suit and the flaming sword that’s in the second movie, and how to came to be, how Stoick got a dragon, we get to put that in the series, and so the audience will know how they got from the first movie to the second movie sort of through the TV series.”

Doug Sloan: “Ya, it’s great. We’re really really lucky that we have the relationship we do with Dean [DeBlois] and Bonnie Arnold. And Gregg Taylor, he’s an executive at DreamWorks, who’s a movie executive primarily but he also works on our show, so he really is in the loop.“

Art Brown: “Ya, we check with him a lot. And if we don’t have the chance to talk with Dean or Bonnie, we talk to Gregg. But they’re so accessible, I mean honestly, ‘Hey, man what do you think about this episode, are you cool with it?’ And usually he’d say ‘Go with it’”

BS: Let’s go off topic for a little bit with a question for Dean. There is almost always an ongoing argument within the Dragons fandom over what can be considered canon or not if it’s in any other medium outside the feature films and shorts. Even the TV series has its ‘canon’ status called into question on a regular basis. In your own opinion, what do you consider to be the official canon for the How to Train Your Dragon franchise?

Dean DeBlois: The feature film trilogy and the characters contained within it serve a narrative purpose specific to those three films, but we’ve made efforts to ensure that every expansion, whether it’s in the TV series, comics, or other mediums, have a sense of tonal consistency and storytelling unity in keeping with the feature films. The only real exception is Cressida Cowell’s book series, being that her storyline focuses on a younger Hiccup and his talking, dog-sized dragon named Toothless. The feature films were a conscious departure from Cressida’s books, in order to tell a story that had more of the tropes of a fantasy adventure. So, within the world of the films, we have tried to remain consistent in all of the expansions. The comic books will adhere to the same constraints and tone of the trilogy. The TV series and comics are meant to fill in time jumps between the films, offering insight and back-story to compliment the main narrative of Hiccup’s coming-of-age.

BS: This question can be answered by either of you. Are there any elements from the TV show (characters, plotlines, settings, etc.) that will carry over or be touched upon in the graphic novels? Similarly, are there any elements from Cressida Cowell’s original books that you want to incorporate into the graphic novels?

Richard Hamilton: The answer to both is a resounding “Yes!” Part of the fun of the comics is coming up with new human and dragon characters and worlds, and part of it is mixing and matching elements from across the franchise to create new stories. How would Eret and Heather react to each other if they met? Is there a heist story to be told in the comics where the alarm system is made up of a bunch of tiny dragons? But we have to be a little careful with the continuity, as the TV show takes place before the event of the second movie, and our graphic novels come after, so we don’t want to spoil any of their awesome stories. Cressida Cowell’s series is a bit more removed from that continuity, so I think the challenge there is for us to reinterpret some of her ideas in a way that works for comics, which is a pretty tall order, since her books are just so great.

Q: Will there be references to Race to the edge in how to train your dragon 3 or how do you feel race to the edge interpreted what happened between the first and second movie?

A: I would agree with the latter. I would say Race to the Edge deals with what the first two movies go over. The film trilogy tends to stick to its film characters and script. Although we do tend to maintain to the universe.

Berk's Grapevine (2018): with Dean DeBlois

My final comments and opinion:

Based on these interviews above, it seems that the TV series is meant to be canon to the HTTYD movieverse from the very beginning, as it was specifically created to serve as a bridge between HTTYD and HTTYD2. The showrunners of the TV series are aware that there are limits they have to adhere to (e.g. such as not having Hiccup meet his mother before the events of HTTYD2); the fact that they have regular meetings with Dean DeBlois and Bonnie Arnold shows that they have tried to keep the series within the overall continuity and ensure that they do not step on each other’s toes on what they can or cannot show.

If the TV series is not meant to be canon in the first place, it doesn’t make sense for the showrunners to even bother having any meetings with Dean and Bonnie at all and for Dreamworks to market this as an interquel between the first two movies.

Yes it is agreed across the fandom there are inconsistencies across the show, but they are rather minor bumps compared to the overall timeline of the franchise and should not be used as a huge factor to discredit the canonicity of a work. Furthermore, what work of fiction is 100% consistent anyway? Inconsistencies also exist within a single work of fiction such as a book and movie and even within the HTTYD book series.

Also, I have seen some here claiming that the movie crew did not contribute anything to the TV series and I would like to point out that that is completely untrue. Other than Dean DeBlois having regular meetings with the showrunners, there are a few from the movie department such as Simon Otto (head of character animation) and Gil Zimmerman (head of layout) who have directed some episodes of RTTE. You can find their names in the credits of the episodes they directed (screenshots below), or refer to this link here for reference. Additionally, Elaine Bogan (who has directed several episodes) was a storyboard artist in the first HTTYD film (source).

Although I have presented my perspective and opinion above, I would like to iterate that I’m not posting this to re-start the argument between those who considers it canon and those who do not, but to provide some information and clarity to those who would like to hear what was said by those involved in the making of the franchise. Whether anyone wants to accept the TV series as canon, it’s entirely their decision and there is no right or wrong in this matter. I’ve learned and accepted that fanon discontinuity doesn’t just happened in this fandom, but in other fandoms such as the Star Wars and Harry Potter ones too, although some of them have gotten very vitriolic lately.

Despite our differing opinions and whether we want to accept the TV series as canon or not, it doesn’t hurt to be civil about this and show respect to each other, so that we don’t end up becoming a toxic fandom like what has already happened with the Star Wars and Harry Potter ones. It also doesn’t mean that we cannot show appreciation to the creators, writers and animators for their hard work on expanding the franchise whether it’s the movies, TV series or comics, even though we do not always agree with all of their decisions made, and that they were not obliged to do this for us (the fans) in the first place.

Bonus: What is confirmed to not be canon to the HTTYD movieverse

Additionally, we have confirmation from Richard Hamilton and Dean DeBlois that the Legend of the Boneknapper Dragon short and the upcoming rumoured Rescue Riders series are not officially canon to the movie franchise. Take a look at their tweets below.

So you want to get caught up with Jack’s 2018 Ego Content before he gets back from tour?

Here’s a summary of the videos you need to watch, in a linear order, without any major spoilers as to what’s in them.

THE VIDEO THAT STARTED IT ALL

At this point, almost everybody is aware that Dr. Schneeplestien has officially returned! It started the night before the first video of the Ego-pocolypse was uploaded, when a new photo appeared on Jack’s instagram feed.

This one is definitely worth watching all the way through, but if you want to JUST watch the important content, then you can start this video at 18:39.

The next video that you’ll want to watch is three uploads later, and the beginning of the Stories Untold series. In my opinion, this is one of my FAVORITE series that Jack has played, not just because of the Ego content hidden in the videos, but also because the game itself is just phenomenal. So I’d DEFINITELY recommend watching all four of these in their completion. But for now, here’s the FIRST video:

It’s a quirky game in which you’re a killer(?) who has to hide a bunch of chopped-off body parts before the police come into your apartment. You really only need to watch the end for this one. Start at 11:55.

THEY ARE LISTENING | Stories Untold - Chapter 2

Again, you’ll want to listen to Jack’s intro for this, because it might be important. Nobody’s really sure yet. The ending for this might just be related to the game and NOT an Ego thing, but....still. We’re including this whole series. If you want to see the ending clip, start at 30:20.

The second upload that day was a game called Yet Another Exhausted Day. The video doesn’t have any real Ego-related stuff but...the reoccurring theme of Sleep and Nightmares is one you should keep in the back of your mind.

The next video?

THEY’RE HERE! | Stories Untold - Chapter 3

Now, this is where things get interesting. In the game, we realize that all four episodes of this tale are connected. The game episodes are connected, the levels themselves. But it definitely carries over to the channel too, because it becomes very very clear that the videos Jack has been uploading are connected too. He and Robin have been very careful in picking games and in telling their story. The games match the story. You’ll want to remember that.

Now, again, watch the introduction for this video. If you choose to skip the rest of the video to ONLY watch the Ego clips, then just know that this particular episode deals with the concept of somebody being in a coma. You NEED to be aware of that. Again, timestamp for the final clip: 40:59. (Morse code at the end spells out “Where Am I?”

IT WAS ALL CONNECTED! | Stories Untold - Chapter 4

Intro, again. Like before. And again, I recommend watching these all the way through. But this one - this is a real, legitimate, live-action scene, one a little more in-depth that what we saw with Schneep’s grand return. Jack and Robin have gotten very creative with their filming and editing, haven’t they? ^^ Anyway, to JUST watch the final clip, start at 45:07.

And then, in the next video, we see the returned “sleep” theme brought up again, this time with nightmares. (It’s also important to note that at some point in the day or two before this video went up, Jack posted a rather interesting photo on his Instagram feed that showed him in red lighting, wearing Chase’s shirt, with Marvin’s mask hanging in the background. (Marvin’s mask also appeared in the background of Jack’s stream the next day, as well as a regular video on the channel.)

Try To Fall Asleep!

This video is the one with the most sly easter eggs. I mean, we’re talking secret frames hidden in the static BETWEEN the frames. It’s ridiculous, and major props to Robin for doing all this. You might not catch any of it the first time you watch it. There are so many, it’s hard to link to all of them...so instead I’m going to link to my post where I already compiled all the easter eggs for the video: [That Mask Sure Looks Familiar]

The following day, one of the biggest theories we had in the JSE community was basically confirmed: The Coma Theory. I won’t go into detail, but I’ll let you draw your own conclusions from the video that “Jack” uploaded that day.

TIE - A Game About Depression

At first, the video seems fairly normal...but the further into it you get, the more it starts to feel like Jack isn’t acting like himself. References are made that make it more important to watch the whole thing from the beginning to the end, but if you’re not able to watch videos about depression I can fully respect that. To see only what NEEDS to be seen, you can go ahead and start your video at 9:52.

The video gives us a more clear picture of what’s really been going on in these videos, on the channel, during the Ego storyline. It blew people’s minds - and the reaction it got was only beaten by the next Ego-centric video that Jack uploaded, a full three days after TIE.

Dark Silence

And hoooooly shit was this a good video. While you don’t need to watch it all the way through, there IS a point in the middle that is worth noting and you SHOULD watch. It starts at 12:34 and it changes the visual mood of the rest of the video due to lighting. Good job on that one, Jack! It was so effective! ( ‘ ‘)b Starting at about 18:20 the gameplay changes, from exploring an abandoned gas station to suddenly exploring an abandoned hospital. And this is crucial. If you’re looking to bypass all gameplay, the ending clip starts at 20:35, but I’d recommend starting at the hospital segment of the game. It makes it that much more effective.

The next game...well I might not count it as Ego content, but you never know.

The next morning he uploaded Baldi’s Basics which has kind of gone viral on YouTube recently lol. But the amount of references to parents in it put a lot of theorists on edge, whether it meant anything or not.

The next (and so far, final) Ego-centric video was uploaded four days ago. It was the first upload of the day with a rather unsettling introduction, it ended on a chilling note, and the second upload was a full hour late afterwards. Needless to say people are eager to see what might happen next, but with how close Jack is to leaving for tour I’m not so sure we’ll get anything else before Thursday.

This one, you’ll want to watch all the way through. You won’t want to skip anything here. But if you really ARE just trying to watch the most important parts of these videos, you should watch the introduction, then once Jack starts to play the game with his normal banter, you can skip to 14:21.

I AM SO CREEPED OUT BY THIS! | First Winter

In the aftermath of the last video, seeing the normal intro in this one was almost disturbing. Going in I already suspected First Winter would have Ego content, due to Jack’s pattern of playing horror games for Anti-based plot in recent weeks, so I wasn’t surprised by the inclusion of creepy moments. It didn’t make it any less unsettling or impressive though. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the video as a whole, so it’s worth watching it all the way through if you have the chance.

If you’re just here looking for the Ego clip that should be tacked onto the end of this one, that’s gonna be a little harder. See, there really...wasn’t one. Much like in Try To Fall Asleep, the creepy easter eggs were sprinkled between frames of the game, some of them visual and some of them audial. For ease of showing them all in one compilation, I’ll instead link you to a video post created by @redpocalypse where they put all the odd occurrences together for the community’s viewing pleasure. [Well that wasn’t in the game]

pretty much the same as before.

born to isabelle mackay, the product of a one night stand where the condom clearly didn’t work.

isabelle again was born into a devoutly christian family and was a disappointment from day one. when she was eighteen she ran away from home and lived with a friend, but it was after months of sleeping around and spending the nights partying away that she reaped the consequences and fell pregnant at nineteen.

no one would ever know that ariel’s true father was a critically acclaimed actor who’d fallen off the rails a year before his encounter with isabelle and tragically died after an overdose three months after ariel was conceived. no one would ever know his true role in the making of ariel, and he died without ever knowing that he had a daughter.

once again, ariel was a problem child from the moment she popped out of the womb.

girl wreaked havoc at every damn turn!! was basically bouncing off the walls with energy ten times as much as her little friends, to the point where she was expelled from two primary schools within four years.

during this time, though, issy was lucky enough to fall in love with a gorgeous woman she worked with at a retail store and alycia moved in after two years of them dating. she quickly adjusted and began treating ariel as her own, something that proved helpful in the long run as she certainly knew better how to discipline ariel than issy.

due to the fact that things like mental illness were more readily talked about at this time, ariel was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when she was eleven rather than fourteen. a psychiatrist explained that this was why ariel seemed so full of energy at times, as she was often struggling to deal with her manic episodes and found her only outlet was to cause trouble. though they didn’t start her on medication at this time, ariel started regularly seeing a psychiatrist from this time onwards.

during her primary school years, ariel had found it a big struggle to fit in, but after getting her diagnoses and moving to a new town to start high school, she quickly found that she actually had impeccable social skills. from the get-go, ariel became the It Girl of her grade, but she was never nasty or a bully. she was popular but she was still kind, she was a party girl but she was still respectful of people’s boundaries. her mother and alycia had taught her well, and she still remained close to them as she grew up.

PARENTAL DEATH TW: six days after ariel’s sixteenth birthday, isabelle was involved in a car accident and died in the hospital due to head injuries two days later. ariel was absolutely devastated.

similar to before, she fell into a deep depressive slump that not even alycia could coax her out of. for months and months and months she isolated herself from everyone she loved, her emotions completely closed off so all she felt was numb.

ATTEMPTED SUICIDE TW: after a year of complete and utter hopelessness in which she lost contact with all her friend and failed nearly all her classes, ariel felt the only option was to end it all and attempted suicide. her attempt was unsuccessful, and after remaining in the hospital for a month she was sent back out into the world with a new perspective on life.

she was still grieving, and maybe she always would be, but now ariel knew that she couldn’t suffer alone. she reached back out to her friends and concentrated harder on her studies then ever before, allowing her to get decent grades and to easily graduate in 2014. it was also at this time that she was put on a series of medication that kept her disorder in check and also maintained healthy sleeping patterns.

RISE TO FAME

after leaving school, she found herself stuck. she was still trying to battle her illness and she now had absolutely no idea what she wanted to do with her life. instead of going straight to university, she decided to take a gap year in which she found herself engrossed in social justice and became a rather prominent activist for feminism and queer rights with popularity mainly in facebook and instagram. she was also a prominent figure in the breaking down of stigma against mental illness, often opening up about her own ongoing struggle with bipolar disorder and her spout of major depression as a teenager.

it was during this time that she also started making vines and grew a separate form of popularity on there and with her linked twitter account. she was a well-known meme face within months and her vines are the kind that are constantly featured in #ripvine compilations.

in 2016, with her instagram growing in popularity to the point where advertisers were reaching out to her and her vine and twitter presence growing stronger than ever, ariel decided not to go back to school and instead kept a job at a cafe while she started to earn money through social media.

she was definitely #cut when vine shut down in late 2016, but she directed her followers to her still-growing twitter where she continues to post memes and videos that are just as popular as her vine once was.

in early 2017, a tourist company approached her and offered her a large sum of money if she started a youtube account linked to both her twitter and instagram and travelled the globe to advertise their company. she immediately said yes, quit her job as a barista and took alycia along with her to begin travelling the world.

she started small in places like the greek island, with fairly short videos mostly just showing what the company could do, where they could bring you etc.

when she started to tour more prominent places in europe like paris and rome, her account really started to pick up in popularity. those videos now receive hundreds of thousands of views, with viewers drawn to her hilarious little quips and stunning photography and videography skills as well as her side accounts which continued to tackle issues of the time (e.g. gun violence, the me too movement)

now in mid-2018, she is preparing to go to america to continue filming for her youtube account as the touring company has just expanded to the states. she’s highkey excited. thanks.

happy v day

On any other day, it would be nearly impossible to wake KJ up before 10am. You would have to fire a gun next to her. It was actually a major concern of her family’s, but she had always been more of a night owl than an early bird.

But today was Valentine’s Day. And this year she was going to do something fantastic for Hunter.

Last night, she had stolen his Apple Watch after he had fallen asleep and set the alarm to vibrate on her wrist at 7. She hated the thing because she felt the radiation from it would lead to arthritis. Bailey had tried to explain that that wasn’t how arthritis worked, but KJ was still skeptical. Regardless, it was the only way she could think of setting an alarm without also waking up Hunter.

God damn, 7am. Any later and Hunter would probably wake up on his own and ruin the surprise. Why did he have to be such an adult?

KJ grinned at that. That’s why she loved him.

As gracefully as she could manage, which wasn’t all that graceful if you knew KJ, she slipped out of their queen sized bed and tip toed to the kitchen. Their apartment was more of an open loft. A giant, brick square with only the bedroom and tiny bath distorting the shape by jutting out to the side. Looking at the floor plan, she had never quite been able to figure out how it interlinked with the other apartments, but really, did it matter? It suited them perfectly. The kitchen was as much a part of the living room as it was the dining room.

Open concept, open vibes.

They had it decorated as some combination of industrial modern and cozy, and the kitchen was pretty much the same. The tricky part was that KJ so rarely actually opened their cabinets that it took her a few attempts to find the pans she needed. Eventually, though, she got the bacon onto the gas stove and started on making breakfast in bed.

Hunter was, hands down, the best thing to happen to her. She knew she said it a lot, but it was just facts. Without him, she would probably be chasing yet another degree that she wouldn’t complete. He rescued her. Of course, he’d never admit it, but KJ and her siblings knew that she was kind of worthless without him.

And she was worthless, no doubt about it. Worthless against conventional standards. She couldn’t keep a job, her temper kept her from really being too great a people person, and without help her living space would be a dump. But she thrived in a space where you could let her be expressive, and Hunter provided her that. He encouraged her to be as creative and goofy and obnoxious as she wanted. And, somehow, they had figured out how to monetize it online. The cookie crumbled perfectly in that way.

She wanted to get lost in all the different ways she loved him, but it was almost impossible to actually start a list. Because as soon as she thought of one detail, it was almost immediately replaced and forgotten with another. He was just.... her world. She was obsessed with him. And she was pretty sure he was equally obsessed with her.

She assumed. She hoped.

KJ wasn’t actually a secure person. Some would even dare to call her insecure. And she felt justified in her anxiousness. Comparing herself to others was one of her most developed skills, and she never could measure up. So, if by some chance a girl who was just as pretty as she was, but twice as responsible came along, was there really any doubting that Hunter would take an interest? He was actually the perfect, functioning adult. One day he’d realize he was tired of babysitting a grown child. She just hoped it was on his death bed. Because KJ quite actually couldn’t live without him.

They’d be together forever if she had any say. And if you know any Faline, they have a lot to say.

And so what if they weren’t legally linked? KJ loved being with him no matter what. Did she sometimes dream about having the big wedding? Sure. Did she ever wonder if he even thought about asking her to get married? Yeah. Was she kind of concerned that he hadn’t asked yet because he didn’t want to permanently link himself to her in such a way that it would be difficult to leave her when he was ready? Who the fuck asked you?!

KJ’s brain snapped back to the kitchen when she smelled the smoke. While zoning out, she had splashed bacon grease onto the range and started a fire. Fucking ADHD.

What were you supposed to use on a grease fire again? All she could remember was not water, but she needed to put it out before the alarms went off and woke Hunter up.

Um.

Ummmm.

Flour!

Kj had no idea where they kept flour, or if they even had it, but the pancake mix sitting on the counter was the next best thing. Without giving herself a moment to second guess it, she dumped the box of powder onto the stove.

Well... on the stove, in the pan, and on the floor, technically.

She stared at it, willing it to not be all over the place. But, alas, there it was.

Kayla Jane, you’re an idiot.

But at least the apartment wasn’t up in flames.

Sighing, she dropped the empty box on the counter and skated to the corner deigned the living room in her socks. Her sleep tank and shorts were covered in mix now, but when was she ever put together? KJ picked up her phone and quickly ordered Postmates from their favorite diner, like the proper millennial she was. Should’ve done it in the first place, but she wanted to be romantic.

The second phase of the morning was cute enough anyway. It didn’t take her long to get her computer hooked up to their TV and get started on touching up the final bits of editing for her next video. KJ had become pretty savvy with anything techy since her career on YouTube took off. Not that she understood a single thing about engineering or how any of the machines actually functioned, but she could put it all together and operate it pretty easily if you gave her twenty minutes and a 5 Hour Energy to figure it out.

The doorbell rang and she ran to grab their food, knowing full well that he’d definitely get up for that. If he hadn’t smelled the smoke already.

Sure enough, Hunter stepped out of their room just as she finished unpacking their breakfast. KJ would never get over how insanely tall and good looking he was. Like, it wasn’t even fair.

But she sure did appreciate having the injustice in her bed.

He smiled at her and chuckled, probably laughing at how messy she was.

“Don’t go to the kitchen,” she warned, pointing a finger at him threateningly.

“It kind of smells like I should,” he replied.

“You absolutely should not. You should come kiss me and get your present instead.”

“That does sound much more pleasant.”

He graciously leaned down so she could stand on her toes and give him a peck on the mouth. She guided him to sit in front of the television and placed his food in front of him. “Happy Valentine’s Day, baby.”

“Happy Valentine’s Day, sunshine.”

Patience wasn’t really a Faline trait either, so she only gave him enough time to take two bites of food before she climbed into his lap and face the TV. “Okay, I made something.”

“You did? For me?”

“For you.”

“I’m touched.”

“You will be.”

“So will you.” He winked.

She licked his cheek. Then she pressed the enter key on her keyboard.

The video went live on her channel. A shaky close up of Hunter’s forehead came on screen. You could hear KJ’s laughter over the speakers as the camera zoomed out and you were able to see the picnic set up from one of their earliest dates. Minute by minute, the video played through a compilation of vlogs from the last four years of their relationship. Some were of their travel adventures, others were at home where Hunter was obviously unaware that she wasn’t filming. Two consisted of KJ being home alone, lamenting her state of abandonment while Hunter was on a business trip. Every clip, every piece, was carefully chosen to show how perfect they were.

KJ had been on social media for the last three years, but she had never made her relationship public to her audience. Anything regarding Hunter was posted to her private accounts that only friends and family could see. Even her family was often used as clickbait. But Hunter had been reserved as a secret, or marketed as just a friend. And she had never quite been able to explain why.

Part of it had been that she was afraid of karma. If she put them out their publicly, then maybe they’d break up and she’d have to announce to the world that she was alone and her person had left her. Or maybe it was because she was selfish and didn’t want him to get any attention outside of her (and Simon.)

But, around Christmas, she had decided that she wanted the entire planet to know how mad she was for her. She wanted her audience, people she loved and was inspired by, to see how lucky she was.

And she would cut any bitch who tried to bat a single eyelash at him.

The video was only about five minutes long, nowhere near the length of her usual challenges and vlog segments, but there was four years of love pieced throughout it. And she prayed to the universe that he got the bigger picture.

That she loved him more than anything on the entire planet.

It ended and she stretched her head back to see his expression, a proud smile on her face. For a moment, he just continued staring at the screen.

She knew it would take a moment to buffer in his brain. They had discussed forever ago that they’d never go public and he was okay with that. Hunter had never cared one way or the other, but KJ had insisted.

Now...

He looked down at her and she saw his blue eyes glisten. It made her smile wider. He was such an emotional tall man.

Climbing around to wrap her arms and legs around him, she sat up to look him directly in the face. “You’re my person. I’ve staked my claim across the globe now. So if any skanks try to make a move on you while you’re wherever your stupid job sends you, you now have live proof to show them that I will hunt them down and burn their eyebrows off.”

“Oh, it’ll have them and their eyebrows shaking in their kitten heels.” He grinned.

She kissed him. Hard.

“I love you, Green Giant.”

“I love you too, Thumbilina.”

KJ tucked her head into the crook of his neck and gave a happy sigh.

“So... What did you burn?”

“Oh my god, SHUT UP!”

LONDON — Jonathan Anderson has taken the British government’s wartime advice — Keep Calm and Carry On — to new heights. He’s been doing both during lockdown, pivoting like crazy — and trying to enjoy the process.

Never mind that Anderson had to close his Soho London store within days of its opening in March, or that he opened a second unit in Seoul, Korea, while he was locked down in London. Confronted with the grim realities of life in the time of coronavirus, the designer was also determined to show his men’s spring and resort 2021 collections, and make life as easy as possible for the buyers, too.

After cleaning his house in London “about 25 times” at the start of lockdown, he designed the JW Anderson collections on mannequins at home, and figured out ways to re-create the showroom experience by beaming his models into buyers’ homes, with hologram technology.

At times like this, he said, “you realize you’re not only a designer. You’re running a business as well.” In a face-to-face interview with WWD, from opposite ends of the long cinnamon-colored sofa at his new headquarters in Hoxton, Anderson said he’s optimistic, realistic and, most of all, humbled by the impact that COVID-19 has had so far.

“There has been disaster out there, but why shy away from trying to continue? It’s about supporting each other, about being humble and letting things roll,” said Anderson from behind his face mask. Indeed, when show season rolled around, he said to himself: “I’m not going to not do something.”

So he worked on multiple fronts: For press, he sent out a show-in-a-box — fashion’s answer to the takeaway delivery.

He filled his boxes with images of his men’s spring and resort 2021 collections, which were printed on different paper stock. He layered in pressed, dried flowers; fabric swatches; cute cut-outs of accessories, and inspirational cards with embossed messages such as “Keep looking up,” “Never compromise” and “Stay curious.”

He plans to compile a similar box of “ephemera” for his upcoming Loewe collections, all in a bid to record this unusual moment and create a time capsule. Anderson said he wanted to make every facet of the box personal, and to engage his audience as much as possible, because it’s the audience that “makes” the show.

Anderson also engaged other creatives to work with him on the collections: The illustrator Pol Anglada created the mannequins’ faces for the men’s collection, while the industrial designer Bertjan Pot handmade the oval, multicolored masks for the resort mannequins.

“I am equally as proud of this as I would be of a show,” Anderson said of the box.

In order to aid buyers, Anderson pushed his team to find the technology that could make their work as simple — and experiential — as possible, given the fact that showrooms are closed, and they can’t touch the clothes or watch them move.

The result was a partnership with the augmented reality startup HoloMe, which has enabled the JW Anderson team to create holograms of models wearing pieces from the collections. HoloMe is able to livestream collections into people’s homes and offices — wherever they happen to be.

During Thursday’s interview at Anderson’s studio, models were standing in front of green screens wearing pieces from the designer’s collections. Their images were transformed into high-definition, life-sized holograms that buyers could see, photograph — and even film — through their mobile phones via the HoloMe app.

Buyers can also zoom in on garments to examine the fabric and styling details.

HoloMe said this was the first time that its live AR technology, which has yet to be officially released, was successfully tested by a fashion brand for a global launch.

Early adopter Bruce Pask, men’s fashion director at Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus, posted pictures this week of JW Anderson’s models hanging out in his kitchen.

“We were not going to give up on our buyers,” said Anderson, adding that he was so proud when he saw Pask’s Instagram post. He added that the collaboration with HoloMe, “was us being incredibly DIY — and it’s worked.” Anderson’s team also built a showroom into the brand’s web site, allowing buyers to browse and shop as if they were doing so at retail. The team also created moving imagery of the clothing as well as the hologram technology.

“We tried everything we physically could. This company is tiny, but in moments like this the team put on a full war effort,” said Anderson.

Indeed, he has been brimming with ideas over the past few months, and added that he’s stopped worrying about what the industry thinks. Instead, he wanted to “focus on my relationship with the customer,” and have a more emotional connection with them.

He’s been using dead stock for special collections in the Soho store; coming up with ways to enrich the content on the JW Anderson site, which saw a spike in sales during lockdown; and has even been giving away some designs for free.

Thanks to Harry Styles, JW Anderson has become a hit during these dark days of quarantine: Styles wore one of Anderson’s colorblock, crocheted cardigans on “The Today Show” back in February. Styles’ fans around the world saw it, pulled out their knitting needles and tried to replicate it. It quickly went viral on TikTok.

Anderson embraced the hype and shared his IP: Earlier this week the Evening Standard newspaper in London linked to the pattern, and by Thursday, the designer had clocked 20,000 requests for it.

Ever the optimistic realist, Anderson said he won’t be showing live at all this year — but the show will still go on.

“You have to try, and you have to kind of leave things to run their course. You can’t force things. Work with your team, work with the structure, with the buyers. Build interesting things. There might not be a solution tomorrow, and that has made me become incredibly humble about what we do.”

Anderson confirmed that more shops will open in Korea, where the brand has a local partner, and that there are plans to grow his online business further. He said he’ll continue to focus on the needs of his clients and customers.

Regarding the future, he added: “It’s going to be a rocky two years. If we think this is going to change by Christmas we are kidding ourselves. I’m more concerned about what the fallout is going to be, the geopolitical, the financial fallout. It’s going to be survival of the fittest — and you have leave your ego at the door.”

Filmora is available for Windows and Mac computers, whereas the company’s FilmoraGo mobile app is free to download for both iOS and Android devices.

Filmora’s “Easy Mode” strips away the intricacy so you can drag and fell video clips, add some music, and render a finished video in a matter of minutes. The FilmoraGo app has many of these features, plus an Effect Store where you can incorporate preset intros, themes, and transitions into your video creation.

Sound too good to be true? Well, you’re right: The free version of Wondershare Filmora adds a watermark to your videos that you can only remove through upgrading to their paid service.

4. InShot Free | iOS | Android

There are the times when you just want to edit a video — no fancy collages and no splicing. For that, there’s InShot, a handy app that lets you trim, speed up, or add music and filters to video. It’s pretty fundamental, but with that comes a high ease of use. You can also add a background, if you like, though we think it’s pretty cool to have an overlap of images, like we did with the video below.

In the video above, I took a simple video of a tranquil beach scene, but improved it with InShot’s “warm filter” and added a fitting musical track to it — a song called “Pikake Stream, ” by Kalani.( I recommend viewing the video in its entirety with headphones, especially if you’re having a stressful day .)

5. WeVideo Free | iOS, Android

Cloud-based video editing software( i.e ., software that you access via a browser instead of downloading directly to your hard drive) is growing more and more popular. One of the programs leading the charge is WeVideo.

WeVideo definitely offers some advanced features and functionality, including audio editing abilities, a library of commercially licensed music, and the ability to share videos in 4K solving. However, the free version of WeVideo isn’t without its limitations.

One major downside is that you’re only devoted 10 GB of cloud storage. If you’re making a one-off video, this is fine. But if you’re planning to edit multiple videos, you’ll definitely need more space. The free version also puts a WeVideo watermark on your videos, which isn’t ideal.

6. Splice Free | iOS only

It only seems accommodating that the makers of GoPro would also release an app that allows you — as the name indicates — to splice together different video clips on your phone to create a moving collage.

We had a lot of fun playing with this one, especially since Splice even contains a library of musical tracks that can be used as a background for your finished product. You can also use the app to trim and edit the differences between pieces of video, and customize transition durations from one scene to the next.

My colleague, Amanda Zantal-Wiener, experimented with Splice by compiling the above 15 -second video of her dog — utilizing only an iPhone 6.

7. Adobe Premiere Clip Free | iOS, Android

Adobe’s popular video editor, Premiere, isn’t simply available on your mobile device — it’s free.

Melissa Stoneburner of Examiner.com calls this app a “gateway” into the full Adobe Premiere Pro video editor for desktop, and we can see this for ourselves. Similar to Magisto( the first video editor on our list ), Adobe Clip automatically sets your video to the music of your selection( employing Premiere Clip’s library or your own ), and offers a Freeform editor that allows you to customize your edits further after this initial audio sync.

Premiere’s equally robust video editing features help you trim, drag, and fell multiple video and image clips — right from your mobile device’s photo and video album — in the order you’d like.

Then, simply add proper lighting, manipulate the speed of the video, and share your final product immediately on Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube.

Perhaps that’s because it was originally developed for the Linux platform, which seems and feels a lot different from the typical Windows or Mac UX.
