#I cannot remember exactly why Sakura went to Sasuke

But anyway, I’m here for headcanons! One of which would actually be beneficial to a character other than Sasuke!
Considering that Sasuke was at Konoha, and Sakura was aware of this, she would have no issues with stabbing and poisoning Sasuke.
I’m not sure if she'd be able to take out the Zetsu clone on her own, but she definitely wouldn’t hesitate to stab him. Might even have more motivation to stab him, considering they’re imitating Sasuke after attacking the Kage summit, and murdering Danzo. Who, while he's an asshole, was still the Hokage at the time.
#out of chakra#out of chidori#headcanon#headcanons#I cannot remember exactly why Sakura went to Sasuke#and I remember her taking others with her#so there might be some other details#but I can take a look into that later if I need to#but I shall give Sakura the credit for that because Kishi didn’t want to give Sakura too many awesome moments

Why do I ship SNS?
It is a known fact that when people experience a good media, they like to discuss various things they liked, hated, interpret what the creator trying to say and get something from what they have consumed. Eventually people end up in a shipping war if there are multiple possibilities.
I started watching Naruto on a whim, hoping to see some ninjas in action with some revenge as a background (after all when you have power, there will always be a revenge). Am a sucker for revenge, btw. I am a person who hates romance in media. Because, every movie, book, novel, series has this same recycled romance plastered into every story even though the story don’t need at all. So, I am very tired of it. Every media portrays romance as something inevitable, necessary and something we can’t live without. That’s wrong.
Usually, romance goes like this... Person A sees Person B... they hate each other and add some possessiveness, jealousy... they magically gets attracted through some shared experiences eventually... they kiss and make babies. There’s nothing wrong with this. It’s just very tiring as I’ve seen million forms of this same repeated trope. I always cringe and yell “Can you give us something different? Grrr.....”.
And also, my motto is that love can happen with any person. It can’t be restrained into certain boundaries. So, I don’t like to put some relationship under an umbrella called Gay, Lesbian, Straight or whatever. Of course, illicit relationships and incest are not normal and am not okay with it.
With all that being said...
My experience after watching the Shippuden series until episode 478 was “Wait, do they love each other?”. I know am very late to realize this, but I have never even viewed them with any romantic lens throughout.
On my first watch, I was always under the impression that “They are friends”... But there are certain moments I felt “Wait, why are they doing like this which could’ve been handled in a different way!!” I will get to this later in this post. But those moments were overlooked by me because of my curiosity of “What happens next ??”.
And on my rewatch, it only confirmed my view.
The other popular ships like SS and NH put forth many points to invalidate what SNS represents. The most common being “They are reincarnated brothers” or “They are best friends”. Am just going to debunk them from my point of view.
Naruto and Sasuke are like brothers.....
Nope.
The best brotherhood title, in this series, should officially go to Itachi and Sasuke.
You can argue as much as you want that Itachi mindfucked Sasuke and killed his parents....yaada yaada....
It is repeatedly shown why Itachi put a curtain on his own clan. The reason is, Uchiha clan decided to forcefully take over the village. No matter how much innocent you are, you cannot take over something with force. Dot. I will write about this in a separate post.
In short, Sasuke realised how his clan members were wrong after hearing the story from the First Hokage, Hashirama Senju. That’s why he openly proclaimed “I am going to protect Konoha and become Hokage”.
Back to the topic, Itachi and Sasuke are blood brothers. If I ship them both, then what you claim is very valid.
The above gif says, “Sasuke, I know, I made a mistake by filling you with hatred. But whatever you decide to do from now on, I will love you always”. Meaning, He stopped treating Sasuke as a kid and accepts that Sasuke has his own path to walk.
This is exactly how brothers behave. I would do the same to my kid sister. You can see a fraternal instinct from Itachi’s eyes realizing that this is their last time together.
Another thing, Brothers trope always has this hierarchy.... Protect the younger sibling no matter what. It is evident from Madara/Izuna and Hashirama/Tobirama.
Not convinced?
If you pull the Indra and Ashura bullshit, let me tell you one thing. Indra and Ashura were separated and formed their own clan long ago. They eventually branched off into Uchiha and Senju clans. No way you can relate a century old blood relation as brothers. It’s just their chakra got reincarnated over and over.
Don’t pull up an incest angle between Naruto and Sasuke. Because they never shared a womb. Dot.
Naruto and Sasuke are Best Friends only.
You know what, you are almost right. I thought that for a very long time. Remember I never wore any shipping goggles ON.
There are two types of best friend categories. Best Friends without a reason and Best Friends through rivalry.
Best Friends without a reason in Narutoverse are: Shikamaru/Choji.
They just became friends and became BFF. They won’t fight or hurt each other. But when you have something to share...you would go to that person and share everything honestly.
Best Friends through Rivalry: Kakashi/Obito, Hashirama/Madara, Naruto/Sasuke
I really cannot provide more proof for the first two pairings as Best Friends as it is not the scope of this post. Although the latter two also qualifies for shipping category. Why?
Because, the common thing among them is that all the three Uchihas awakened/reawakened their Sharingan for their best friend. But Hashirama/Madara and Naruto/Sasuke are the only pairings to awaken or evolve Sharingan when trying to break their bonds with each other.
Special Brownie points for Madara. He had 4 brothers and lost 3 but still couldn’t awaken his Sharingan but when trying to break up with Hashirama, his eyes were brimming red.
Sasuke’s Sharingan matures in the first Valley of The End.
That’s why I excluded Hashirama/Madara and Naruto/Sasuke from this Best Friends list.
Because to the both Uchihas, the other person meant something special which cannot be comprehended into a mere term called ‘Best Friends’.
Which is exactly why Kakashi/Obito would perfectly fall into this category.
The way they quarrel, fight with each other, protect each other are perfect scores for a friendship. What makes them best friends is when Obito decided to give his Sharingan despite Kakashi was always putting a cold air around him and most importantly asked him to protect his love ‘Rin’. Also Kakashi carried his friend’s will to his heart and passed on to Team 7.
It all falls under ‘In the memory of my Best Friend’ trope.
Obito may be a trash but he is a good friend. Because after Rin was killed, he massacred everyone around him except for Kakashi. He could have killed him. Understandable. Or he could have plucked his Sharingan back (because he literally plucked most of the Sharingans from the Uchiha clan massacre and kept those eyes as a reserve). This could have enabled him to use Susanoo. I believe Susanoo can only be used with Mangekyo Sharingan in both eyes. But for some reason, he didn’t.
So what makes me think Naruto and Sasuke love each other, not as a brother and not as a friend but something beyond which I can’t term?
My way of shipping is not about marriage, sex and rearing babies. Because literally everyone does this as an obligation.
So, I don’t ship them in terms of living together in my headcanon and having sex daily. Nope. But it is not wrong though if you ship in that sense.
In this Narutoverse, Women are just some stow away pieces whose sole existence is to fawn over their dreamboy and cry for them. (Usually literally nothing useful comes out of them). Me being a girl, as much as I hate this setup but I have come to terms with whatever it is and have accepted it. If you are a girl looking for a strong female character...... this is not the place. Watch something else.
But I draw inspiration from male characters who are characterized deeply for which I have to applaud the creator. Reason being, the very first character which I connected with was Itachi. It was when Sasuke thinks about his past with his family in the flashback before the first VotE battle in part I. I will be writing a separate post about Itachi in this week.
In short, If you are a person who wants inspiration, draw it from male characters. Not in a single moment, you stoop so low for characters like Hinata and Sakura. That’s not how I envision myself or any woman. Dot.
With all this being said, I ship them as a couple who necessarily don’t have to get married or have sex... But they each other has some special allowance towards each other in their hearts which no one can touch, not even their wives or children.
This doesn’t mean I accept what came after episode 478 as they are literally something they made for $$$$$.
There are some basic traits which are absolutely necessary for a ship to sail successfully. They are Acknowledgement, Reason, No Hierarchy, Influence, Owning each others rights and Privilege. (All these reasons should come from both the sides for the ship to be worthy)
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Acknowledgement, I mean here, is to accept and acknowledge what they are to each other.
They both agree that they are Bonded/Friends verbally as well as emotionally.
To me, this is essential in any relationship especially for the ones you are trying to ship. I didn’t see this in any other ships like SS or NH where it is always one sided. Sakura confessed before the village entrance to which Sasuke said “You really are annoying!!”. Hinata proposed in Pain arc. Naruto didn’t even acknowledge her confession. He went on to beg for pardon for Sasuke. Again she proposed in the War at the expense of Love Cupid “Neji”. Naruto went on to joke with Minato that Sakura is his Girl Friend.
If I were in both of these girls place, I would literally be mad and drop this shit right away.
Wheras in SNS, I saw both the people I am trying to ship were asking “What am I to you?”, to which they reply “You are my friend”. To me this is very important.
Reason
To those who are saying “Love is blind”, “Love is Madness”, “Love needs no reason”, you all need self-evaluation. This is not some K Drama situation where you don’t need any reason. You should know why you love someone and why you need the other’s presence.
Naruto’s reason is very simple.
I could provide many reasons. But here, Sasuke, without any reservations... knowing full well of the consequence if he feed Naruto but still extended the helping hand to someone who was always hostile. It is just like what Iruka did. And many incidents which happened during Land of the Waves arc are evident.
He wanted to be friends with this lonely Uchiha boy way back when he was around 7 or 8 for a simple reason that he understands his pain more than anyone. But he really became friends when they were grouped together for Team 7.
Sasuke’s reason goes even way beyond when Naruto series started.
“Because he felt relief”.
Imagine a young boy who witnessed a massacre before his eyes and lost everyone he loved. But somehow another young boy of his age made him feel relieved. This explains why Sasuke went all out of his way to make friendship with Naruto despite being aloof.
Isn’t this what we want from someone we love?
Rather than being completely insensitive about an orphan life or just stalking from the distance and never offered any support, I would prefer someone who understands my pain from their heart and try to reach me. Sasuke reached out to him by offering the lunch and Naruto reached out to him by making him his rival and bug him.
NO HIERARCHY
This is pretty self-explanatory. Unlike blood brothers, there should be no hierarchy in a relationship I want to ship.
We saw Naruto yells at Sasuke many times absolutely for no reason, despite Sasuke bearing this cold attitude. Probably he is the only person who can call him by such variety of names.
Sasuke always calls him by his trademark ‘Usuratonkachi’. Sometimes he calls him fool just like everyone. But was never insulting or mean towards Naruto. Except for that time in the final battle, he made fun of his Shadow Clone jutsu citing his loneliness.
In short, be it a physical fight or verbal offense.... neither of them wilts like a flower. They equally give back.
The only other person who can verbally assault Sasuke is Karin and probably the only girl who never addresses him as “Sasuke-Kun”.
U-SU-RA-TON-KA-CHI..... Why do Sasuke spend such an effort to call someone with a 6 syllabic word, instead NA-RU-TO, a 3 syllabic word which is way more convenient to call?? I always wonder.
POSITIVE INFLUENCE
I don’t have to spell out anything here. There are many obvious examples but will try to keep it short.
Naruto became strong because of Sasuke. He trained hard for 3 years with Jiraiya , a month with Kakashi developing Rasen Shuriken and controlled Kurama’s power with Killer Bee. Except for Sage Mode jutsu everything he learnt was all for bringing Sasuke back.
In short, Sasuke is Naruto’s predominant strength.
Though Naruto was not the source of strength for Sasuke, but he brings out many vibrant emotions in Sasuke which he really needed for his traumatic mind otherwise he would always be that cold angry brooding doll without any emotions and I am sure Sasuke enjoys to banter with Naruto.
LOL!!! I don’t know why Sasuke feels competitve here. It’s pretty childish even for Sasuke.
Friendly tease :-) I think he also protected Sakura in this scene. He can also ask her the same, isn’t it? I mean as a friend.
The best one is yet to come
It’s incredibly hilarious to see how Sasuke pouts when he was with Naruto. Sakura!!!! You third wheeling joker :-D :-D
Throughout Shippuden, Sasuke never shows his emotions with anyone. He either looks very cold or angry.
Reminiscing his Team 7 days, for a split second.
Probably the only positive emotion is this, in all of the Shippuden. I mean not counting Episode 478.
I don’t think Sakura brought any kind emotions in Sasuke except annoyance when they were together in Team 7. Or Hinata too. These girls just moan “Sasuke-Kun”, “Naruto-Kun” but brings nothing to the table. Total wastrels!!!!!
OWNING EACH OTHER’S RIGHTS
This section is exactly where SNS moves on to a whole different level.
Sasuke wanted to inflict his pain over everyone who lives in peaceful Konoha for what it did to Itachi. (though I don’t really accept with Sasuke here since he never even bothered to question about his clan’s history, but what he was doing is understandable. Just like Naruto tells him).
But the context here is Sasuke is on a murder rampage. Starting from the Kage Summit, killing Danzo, unnecessarily hurting Karin and almost reached a point where he could not be stopped anymore. Then Ms.Annoying appears. She literally have no fucking clue what Sasuke is going through. So started to spout nonsense that she wanted to go with Sasuke-Kun with an ulterior motive to kill him without a strong resolve.
The interesting SS dynamics here is Sasuke asks Sakura “Do you know what I want?” and to which she gives a carefree-shitty-pathetic answer “I don’t care. I will do whatever you want”. Geez!!!
If I were Sasuke, I would think, “This person standing before me don’t even care about what I want but coming with an intent to kill me and not only that... she is a kunoichi from Konoha where I planned to inflict my pain by slaughtering them.. I better ram my Chidori and be done with it”... He doesn’t see her as his former Teammate. He just want to kill that person.
However, Kakashi deflects the attack and saves Ms.Useless.
( Me : I am a Sasuke fan through and through. But, Sakura..... You always says you will do this, do that.... But you never succeed at anything... Why is that? Why are you even continue being a ninja? No one asked you to kill Sasuke, you decided to. But why don’t you kill him. Probably you would’ve earned my begrudging respect... Pffft” ****sighs with a heavy second hand embarassment)
Anyways, Sasuke becomes an unstoppable maniac at this point because he was very irritated on seeing Kakashi and Sakura spouting some unreachable nonsense. So he started to attack Kakashi as he is even more irritated on seeing his Sharingan.
Again, Ms.Idiot wants to kill Sasuke when he is at his weakest point due to chakra exhaustion and that too from behind his back. (You!!! Gutless wrench). Sasuke sensed this and attempted to kill her again... (Naruto!!! You idiot. Why did you save her...)
However, Naruto appears and saves her. Naruto and Sasuke’s eyes meet each other.
But somehow Sasuke calmed down and hears out Naruto for what he has to say. He says, “Whatever you are doing until now, it’s understandable”.
Kakashi wanted to kill him and Sasuke got riled up and prepare his Chidori. Anyways, Naruto intervenes and they go to some meta physical plane and talks privately. And Naruto comes up with his idea and announces as below:
Me: Naruto!!!! Sweety..... Do you realize that you have a big dream of becoming a Hokage which you have been shouting from Day 1? But still you want to overthrow everything for that one person who is in unbearable pain. It’s alright. But you don’t want to go alone or send him alone. No Best friend would go this far. And to those Sakura shippers.... Why didn’t Sakura try to bear the burden? Why didn’t she come up with this Idea? Afterall, you spout nonsense like ‘Sakura saved Sasuke from Darkness, isn’t it?’ And, Naruto.... Who gave you the right to take his hatred and shoulder the burden? And what makes you think you are that only person to do it??? Sasuke, might have other special person in those 3 years. How can you decide on Sasuke’s behalf??? Aren’t you going overboard ?
The answer to all the above is simple, Naruto can risk anything for Sasuke. And he clearly knew that Sasuke’s only living bond is him.
And what happened next was almost unbelievable and for the first time I thought ‘What is it with these two guys?’.
Sasuke agrees with Naruto’s proposition to not destroy Konoha before fighting with Naruto.
Me: Sasuke!!!! You have every right to reject his proposition. Since, he was not in your life for the past 3 years, your side of bond with Naruto should have been cut-off long back, right? Sasuke??? Well, at this point he was just your former Team 7 member. You don’t need to honor your proposition. You can attack Konoha anytime. Why did you accept?
Also Me: Sweety!!! Why do you always question Naruto ‘Who am I to you’? Why do you need his opinion always? There is an annoying princess standing behind Naruto vying for your attention. And yet you didn’t even ask her this question at any time. But before Naruto, you completely calmed down from your rampage and willing to wait for what he has to say plus asking for his validation. After all you don’t care about anything, why just Naruto???
And the reason being, Naruto is still his closest bond which he couldn’t cut off despite trying very hard. After all, Many years ago, Sasuke was the one, who readily jumped in to protect Naruto knowing full well that it’s a trap. He was ready to throw away his revenge for this boy back then. Sasuke is afraid that he will give in to this bond once more and Naruto is his weakness which he wants to eliminate so badly.
This is definitely not any Best Friend would do..... Fix that in your mind.
The purpose of these GIFs is not show how protective Sasuke is..... Well, I can talk about it all day. Let’s save it.
Me: Yo!!!! Sasuke..... You wanted to kill Naruto.... You said so yourself under the bridge. Meaning, He is the only person standing between your goal and your resolve and Naruto is always known to weaken your resolve. And yet why are you protecting him here? There is absolutely no need. Because, if there is a situation like Kaguya where both of you are must needed to save this world , then there is a reason to save him. But why now? Plus do you know, if Naruto dies, then Madara’s plan may not succeed because if a Jinchuriki dies, tailed beast also dies. It is perfect for your Revolution, isn’t it? Who gave you the right to own his life? Obito has his reason to kill Naruto, why not let him?Why is it that you want to personally remove him from your life? If he is dead by an external factor, you can carry on your path without any interference and pain. Why go so far to protect him ?
The answer is Sasuke values Naruto’s life more than his own even during his Team 7 days. He has this high esteem for Naruto and almost consider it to be a shame if some worthless fool takes his life. And Sasuke never hated Naruto. He once hated Itachi and his resolve to kill was real and intense. But when Orochimaru asked him to kill 1000 people for practice, Sasuke never killed anyone. He even implemented no kill policy for his team “Hebi”. So, someone like Sasuke who never liked to kill random innocent people, how could he let some trash take away a life, he considers dearly to the same level of Itachi? That’s why in this situation, his body moved on his own to protect something special for him. He may not agree it, but he always shows it.
But some other ship wankers try to say Sasuke may have said “You are annoying” but inside he deeply loved her which is why he was smiling. If so, Why didn’t Sasuke never showed his care not even once? He not only tried to kill her twice when she was defenseless but also let her die twice or didn’t bother at all during the war. Or show me where these soul level connection happened between SS or NH
In short, Sasuke and Naruto own each other’s rights unconsciously. Because they are the only ones who can understand each other’s soul which nobody can reach.
Me: Oh, by the way Sasuke, I think Susanoo should be used like this. You really don’t need your hand to protect Naruto. Susanoo can do it’s work for you. Minato would be proud though!!!!
PRIVILEGE
Most of the points I written above are in and of itself is a privilege they give for each other and not for anyone else. Privilege is essential in a ship. Because it shows how different a loved one is from normal people.
For Naruto,
I originally want to put how he begs for forgiveness on Sasuke’s behalf before Raikage and weeps immeasurably before hyperventilating. But this one trumps the other. Naruto literally broadcasted everyone how important Sasuke is to him and how he regretted not offering his friendship at that time and how he couldn’t stop Sasuke from reaching Orochimaru.
If you want to inspire Alliance shinobi forces, you should have shown how you worked so hard from the bottom to top. Projecting Sasuke as your regret and inspiring people shows how deeply you prioritize this person which affects you after so many years and hence, you don’t want any more regrets.
It’s very unconventionally romantic which passes the shipping category in flying colours.
For Sasuke,
The following is the Land of the waves arc which was novelized in the name of Innocent Heart, Demonic Blood released in 2006. 99.9% of the material is exactly as it happens in Manga/Anime.
This is the privilege Sasuke provides for Naruto. “ But coming from Sasuke, It almost counted as a hug”...
BROWNIE POINTS:
Now, the following are the scenes which add a mysterious flavour to this ship. I sincerely don’t understand why Kishimoto put this. I mean I am absolutely happy with it, but why? What was he thinking while drawing these scenes?
It’s also strange that, whenever they clash a Chidori with Rasengan..... They always gets repelled to their own sides and fall with a loud thump. But Naruto’s posture looks very perfect, I mean it looks like someone carried him and laid him down. Anyways, What’s Sasuke doing on Naruto’s side?? He should have fell on the opposite side. Why didn’t he walk away? There is absolutely no reason for Sasuke to come over to Naruto’s side and have an intense meaningful gaze.
This is another mysterious plus intense scene. I am still wondering, Is this really Sasuke? He is a person who avoids casual touches with anyone other than his brother. I’ve seen so many times Sasuke rejecting hugs from Sakura. I can’t even imagine what Kishimoto was thinking.
If you people pass these scenes off as Brotherhood or Best Friend chemistry... Then you lack basic human emotions. That’s all.
Me: Well, Sasuke, If you really want to kill him, you should have shovelled your sword right through Naruto’s vital point when you made that exuberant landing. There is literally no need for you to draw a long sword in close quarters. And what about the Personal Space??? With your speed, you can land without leaning on Naruto’s shoulders...
Also Me: Yo, Naruto... You were panicking when Sai does the same....but you don’t even flinch when Sasuke invades your personal space????
Anyways, it’s funny that both the intense scenes I have mentioned here were initiated by Sasuke. Quite strange and thrilling.
So, to conclude.... All these scenes I have mentioned made me unconsciously ship them as a pair. With all these being said, I believe all the ingredients for a good romance were laid perfectly. A moment of impulsive tension or affection, say a hug, between them after a difficult battle could mess with both and make a romance happen. And I don’t think either of them will deny especially Sasuke.
I don’t see any of this aspect in other popular ships such as SS and NH. If I am Sakura or Hinata in this universe, I will not be okay with my pair doing all these things with other person. I intentionally left scenes from Episode 478 as it is so intense and require a separate post. I am happy that even without Episode 478, SNS ship sails high. So, I believe both Sakura and Hinata are still fourth wheeling their respective pairs in Boruto universe also, I guess.
P.S: I don’t watch Boruto
Final memento:
No way a friend will look this mesmerized on seeing the other one.

He waits for her to break the spell
Prompt: Dates | AO3 link here | Connect with me on Twitter. (Belated) Happy SS Month everyone! 🌸🍅🥗 @ssskmonth
A/N: Almost 3,000 words so this is quite lengthy as well. 😅
Waves break against the cobblestones on the shore. Sasuke picks apart the shiny seaglasses with his eyes as they glint against the fading rays of the sun. His legs alternately swing with her on the seawall as they silently watch the small fishing boats dock at a nearby port. A flock of seagulls fly above them, calling it a day and coming home.
He waits for her to break the spell.
They’ve been here before, and several times the gaps were filled in with laughters, awkward conversations, and hushed confessions. He grew up with her, their houses on the same block, same primary schools, same favorite parks, but he never talked to her. But he knew her name, and she knew his. They knew each other’s families. It was one of those instances when you just saw a steady familiar face as you go through the motions of life.
He took a month’s worth of leave after the unfortunate car crash, and he settled back in quite all right, much better than his older brother who remained catatonic and would never truly grieve until his adulthood. The first week after, she followed him home, a few meters trailing behind him but close enough that he was always in her line of sight. He didn’t mind; after all, their houses were on the same block.
Then one day, she pulled his drifting mind to safety when he almost walked into an open manhole. The distances between them shortened in the following weeks until she walked beside him, even with no conversation.
She brought him here on the eve of his parents’ first death anniversary. They raced against the looming cumulonimbus with their rickety bikes after she ambushed him in front of the school gates after class. And he followed her, even when she said nothing, even when there was a storm coming.
When they arrived at the dock, the fishers were hurriedly tethering their boats to the steel posts, knowing the possibility that they will be strung away but trusting the hold the rope has, nonetheless.
It was a big storm and large drops were starting to pour down, but she stood on the edge of the seawall with arms stretched out to her side, her rose hair in disarray around her face, her eyes closed to welcome the fall of the rain. And just as the usual, he followed her, his body straining to keep upright against the gusts. He remembered feeling the rain come down like pellets, and he was sure he winced in pain. For the first seconds of that moment, he regretted coming along with her. Insane, irrational, dangerous – two teenagers soaking up the storm. But he felt it welling soon enough, the emotion he spent twelve months bottling up. It began to rack up slowly, accompanying his deep breath, and following his exhale, continuous sobs lost in the whistle of the gale.
He waits for her to break the spell.
The place has become solace for him. His signal was sometimes a pebble thrown at his window at four in the morning. Huddled up in a blanket he bunched in his bag pack, they sipped hot chocolate from the same thermos, their legs brushing against each other as they waited for the sun to rise.
“I want to be in the same class as you,” Sakura said, the blanket completely covering her head except her eyes, and he couldn’t tell whether it was a joke.
“That’s very clingy of you.” He tried to lighten it.
“And beat you in recitations and assignments and grades.”
“Clingy.” He repeated.
She loosened the blanket from her head and stuck out her tongue at him. “So what?”
So what, indeed. He only realized this as he fell into a deep sleep after they went home – they missed the sunrise, and that was their first conversation.
Sometimes the signals were just a wave – after classes at the gates – and they would bike to the seawall, just in time for the sunset. He cannot exactly pinpoint the exact date he gave her a mixtape, but the following afternoon, she brought a portable cd player and they listened to it with an earphone each on their ears.
And he doesn’t know why or what it was that triggered him, but he held her pinky finger with the long earphone wire in between. His memory was of her laughing, removing her finger momentarily from his touch and engulfing his entire hand with hers. It was warm and rough against the surface of the seawall.
He waits for her to break the spell.
They ditched prom, she dressed in an emerald dress that matched the intensity of her gaze, in two-inch heels, and messy bun of pink curls, and he in a classic black tuxedo set handed down to him by a cousin in the next city over. They would have won prom king and queen, but they traded the first dance with the meandering waltz through the busy streets in his motorcycle.
It caught him offguard, the way she looked ethereal without the distraction of a busy port or its harsh blinding lights. She was in company with the murmur of the waves and the soft echoes of a bustling city at night and his silent presence. They stood on the seawall, hand in hand, and her head was at a perfect height to lay on his shoulders thanks to her heels. She did the gesture while humming a song by The Cure. It was on her mixtape, but the title escaped him.
“Why don’t we dance, Sasuke?” She lifted her head and twirled around on the precarious ledge, her trust solely on his grip on her wrist.
“You told me you didn’t want to dance.” He pulled her in closer and placed both of her arms around his neck while his hands went to her waist.
“I want the stars as our audience,” she chided as they swayed side to side to an invisible beat. She started to sing in an offkey manner, and she laughed in between words when Sasuke didn’t bother to hide his regrets.
We’re never done with killing time, can I kill it with you
Till our veins run red and blue…
We come around here all the time
Got a lot to not do, let me kill it with you
She laughed harder when he joined her, his deep, sultry voice accompanying hers in a disconcerted rendition of the song.
You pick me up and take me home again
Head out the window again
We’re hollow like the bottles that we drain
You drape your wrist over the steering wheel, pulses can drive from here
We might be hollow, but we’re brave
“And I like you.” He reached through the small gap between their faces and captured her lips in a kiss. Soft, plump, cold. And she opened her mouth in response, welcoming his tongue with a smoldering warmth. They found their way to his empty house, his older brother a shell of pill-induced sleep, and they fell on his bed skin to skin, teeth to teeth, bones to bones. Her dress and heels on his floor and her rose strands on his pillow, fanned out and clenched through his fingers.
He waits for her to break the spell.
She was moving away. She told him this a month before graduation. Medicine in her dream school. He congratulated her with a sincere smile. He even tucked stray hair behind her ear, and she smiled back just as brightly.
Two days before her departure, they met here again at the peak of the port’s busiest harvest season. She cut her hair and dyed it black. For a change, she said.
“Why don’t you come with me?” she asked unprompted. Before this, she gave him a box of memorabilia, of things she wanted to leave behind with him.
Things she wanted to do away with. Things she doesn’t want with her.
Sasuke smirked. He put his hands inside his jacket’s pockets, afraid of holding her hands. “Why don’t you stay here with me?”
“You’re right. That was a selfish question.” She waved her hands in front of her as if to dissipate the weird atmosphere. Then, she looked at him with those piercing jade eyes. “But I wish you would, get out of this city, see the rest of the world blah blah, you know the script.”
This isn’t a miserable town when you are here, Sakura.
“Leave the grief behind,” she finished.
The doubts crept in. “So it was pity after all.”
That hit her bad, and her face contorted into a series of emotions, too fleeting for him to name everything at once. But she never got full on angry with him. The most argument they had was a cold shoulder that lasted for a month. “I was just offering you a chance to start over.”
“As if I cannot start over on my own,” he supplied.
“In this place?”
“This is my home, Sakura.”
“This isn’t mine,” she replied. “I can’t stay here. You know my dreams.”
He knew them all too well. He saw the pamphlets and brochures of the university stacked on her desk, and the map of the world gobsmacked on the wall of her room with pins on specific places and post-its of attractions. It didn’t escape him that there was no pin for their city or a post-it with his name. It was a hovering observation that haunted his head for years, and that eventually, he would have to decide.
But the world was too big for him, too expansive that he was afraid of the grief he would have unlocked at every place he stepped in. Sasuke smacked his lips together and nodded. “Keep in touch, will you?”
His hands fumbled with a box inside his pocket. I can’t follow you everywhere, Sakura.
“At least don’t remember what I felt as mere pity.”
It was a desolate moment, their seemingly absent outburst of emotions contrasted by yells of traders in the small impromptu market that assembled on the dock. She nodded, both knowing that it was an empty promise. She proceeded to stood on tiptoes, and he met her movement with an embrace as their lips touched for what felt like was a final kiss under the searing sun.
He waits for her to break the spell.
The waves come after midnight, Sasuke noticed. Sporadic sleepless nights comes in twos or threes or sevens, and he would glance at his weather application on his phone, swiping until he finds her city and wonders what she’s up to.
The text found him at his third cup of coffee before sunrise.
“It’s a great day to be out and about, sun will be shining today!”
Her city was in the middle of a hurricane path.
But she wasn’t. She was in front of his doorstep several years after she went away. Rose hair, emerald eyes, and a smile that he constantly chased in his dreams. She was back for the summer only, a quick break, a breather in her other words.
His caffeine-induced soul followed her footsteps out of his house and through the grocery aisles. He doesn’t engage her in conversation, but she has her hand in his, twirling now and then, euphoric to be in his orbit for a moment.
And he lost control of the script he prepared in his mind and the list of reasons why he shouldn’t be meeting her again because he, too, was euphoric to revolve around her again.
To refamiliarize all of her contours, to explore the new dips and marks that carved her skin, to taste the places she went to, to get a glimpse of her new batch of memories, to fill his senses with her being.
He parked his car beside the seawall one night, and Sakura waved him over, two bottles of beer already drained beside her.
“I heard Itachi got married.”
Sasuke halved his bottle before replying. “Izumi. Gentle but firm, dependable also. They liked the mountains more than the sea so they’re on the other side of the city.” He paused and drank the other half in one gulp. “How was….the world?”
“Shitty.” Sakura laughed. Spite, remorse, regret. “Med school is all right, aced it, like how you aced your law school.” A proud smile right there, and he caught that she implied she was keeping tabs on him even though there were no letters and calls, only sparse texts in few and between of the usual how are you and the default reply of I’m okay. “The rounds are what’s bad, like I’m always giving away a part of myself every time I treat. I have self-awareness and I’m empathetic, but I can only give away so much. There’s nothing I can take in return anyway. And life is moving too fast. Someone’s getting married, someone’s having a kid, and I’m stuck in scut duty with 72-hour shifts and I come home to no one.”
“And you feel lonely.” Sasuke summed it up for her.
“I wish I believed you when you told me this was my home.”
She swooped in into his space to place her lips on his mouth, and he allowed her to fill him in. He lost all reasoning when she appeared in his doorstep at the beginning of this season, and he will again lose all reasoning when it was time for her to go back. So he savored all what she could give.
Even if she was oblivious that he has given all of him, for her to take and not return. Like a boat capsizing in the middle of the storm and following the waves down to the bottom.
He waits for her to break the spell.
He waits for her to break the spell. Stars dots the transitioning purple sky, and the seaglass now glints against the moonshine. She pushes the stop button of the cd player even though it was no longer functioning, and they don’t have earphones on.
“I’m getting married.”
He knows even before she uttered the words from her own lips. He saw the band on her finger when she drifted through the grocery aisles with a silver-haired man a day ago. He twirled her in between shelves regardless of the bemused faces of onlookers, and he made her laugh out loud to the extent that she clutched at her sides.
And Sasuke wished he didn’t hear her laughter through his rushing thoughts.
“Congratulations,” he simply says.
“It just happened. He’s actually a schoolmate of ours, but he moved out to the next state for senior high. Kakashi? Does the name ring a bell?” Her face is animated when she says his name. “We met in the hospital. Turns out he’s a resident there too.”
God forbid he remembers him. All his memories conjure is this seawall and her face, her rose hair, and her emerald eyes. Sasuke doesn’t know what to reply.
She sighs. “You know what I’m trying to say. We’ve always been two halves of each other.”
He doesn’t want to reply. He wants to ask a hundred questions instead. What things remind her of him? Does any sea, dock, or fishing boat transport her to memories with him? Does she see his face in the middle of grocery aisles? Did she ever love him? Did she ever have regrets? Would they have ended up together if he followed her? Did he fight for her enough to want her to stay?
“Just a minute,” he says, but it’s almost a plea. “Just a minute more.”
And she holds on to his hand and intertwines her fingers with his against the rough surface of the seawall. She scoots closer and lays her head on his shoulder, a bit broader than what she might remember, and he hopes to gods that she is memorizing his scent just as he is memorizing the curve of her head on his neck and the feel of her now long rose strands against his cheeks.
“I love you.” Sasuke doesn’t expect a reply, and even if she does answer back, he knows all too well that they don’t have the same gravity as his.
“I love you,” she whispers in his ear.
Not a minute later she stands up, dispelling the spell that hovered between them, walking towards a place he cannot follow no matter how he wishes. And he sits on top of the seawall an hour longer, alone with the shore, the stars, and the silent dock.
He pulls out the velvet box from his pocket and stares at the ring that should have been on her finger. He closes it and flings it to the sea.
What is wrong with me that I made a fluff prompt angst? Anyway, please listen to 400 lux and Hard Feelings by Lorde for full effects. Thanks for reading!

next round of in-progress naruto thoughts under the cut! i haven’t done one of these in a while - been doing a lot of individual posts instead, but seeing as we just finished a season and started a long filler arc, it feels like a good time to collect my thoughts.
[spoiler policy disclaimer first, as always: I am watching naruto for the first time. i am trying to avoid spoilers, so please don’t interact with this (tags included, because the notifications now show them to me automatically) with any spoilery commentary, including even general things like “oh i love this show but it gets less good after X point” or X season is better than Y season” or any general assessments of quality/likability/etc re: future seasons. Thank you! <3 ]
okay uh where to begin. UM. so much is happening that this is not going to be a comprehensive commentary, just certain things that stuck out in my head.
two annoyances first, and then the rest is my usual lovefest:
- if i have to listen to one more speech about how amazing naruto is i’m gonna start fast-forwarding through them. i’m sorry; i love him so much, but in the last couple of episodes there have been at least 10 separate speeches saying the exact same thing, and i need a little break from the naruto praise-fest. i already know he’s wonderful! you do not have make every single character tell me so. spend that time on resolving the other characters’ arcs on their own terms, the way they deserve - naruto is very important to all of them, but he also isn’t the only reason they're here.
- i love how the show made such a big deal once again out of sakura refusing to let sasuke and naruto go on without her, saying “i’ve finally caught up to them; they’re not going to leave me behind this time” and then they literally just...leave her behind lmao. the show has tried to resolve her arc in exactly this way multiple times and every time it goes right back to its old nonsense. i don’t know why i keep believing it when the show says she’s just as integral a part of the team as sasuke and naruto. i am charlie brown with the football, and i keep landing flat on my back.
and now better things:
- i loved gaara’s relationship with shukaku coming back into play! when he swooped in to pull shukaku out of obito like “come here, shukaku” because naruto had no connection with the one-tails...that was awesome. and also him asking for shukaku’s help like “i’m not ordering you. i’m asking you. if you don’t agree, that’s fine” - i LOVED seeing that.
- that whole episode with the three-way deadlock...you ever see a particular shot and think “foreshadowing, foreshadowing, foreshadowing”???
- perpetually distressed over how entertained i am by orochimaru’s dynamic with taka and then needing to remind myself of how EVIL orochimaru is lmao. like. i’ve always loved his character; there’s never a dull moment when he’s around, but then in this arc they’re almost like...making you imagine what it would’ve been like if he had been on their side the whole time and you’re kind of...enjoying all these moments he has with the kids but then you have to be like NO! THESE KIDS ARE HIS EXPERIMENTS! HE’S THE ONE WHO STOLE BABY YAMATO AND RAISED HIM IN A TEST TUBE!!! THIS MAN IS EVIL!!!!!!! and yet...
- i was losing it laughing at sasuke’s snake calling him “lord sasuke.” i’m sorry, you all know i love sasuke more than anything but this kid’s ego does NOT need further swelling. my sister and i were both like “yeah ok kakashi’s gonna put a stop to that immediately” lmao - like there are some levels on which sasuke needs love and support but there are also some levels on which he needs an adult to bop him with an empty paper towel roll and tell him NO.
- i love that sai is still the smartest one in the room, telling sakura that they don’t really know sasuke’s true intentions and can’t trust him. and i really liked the callback to his initial arc way back in season 2, where he looks at sakura and says to himself “your words may not be lies, but i can already tell that your smile is fake.”
- i know it’s all going to go to shit eventually but in the meantime i love seeing team 7 sniping at each other.....“don’t drag us down, naruto”...... “remember, he can only be affected by sage jutsu!”/“i know that, i’m not YOU”...........just like the Good Old Days XD
- also how much did i laugh when minato was like “you and the others go and deal with madara” and naruto was like “OH RIGHT! I FORGOT ABOUT HIM!!!” ‘forgot’ about the antagonist. in the middle of the war they’re fighting against him. that’s the naruto we know and love. XD
- LOVED when shikamaru needed ino to connect him to the entire army and he asked “can you do it” and she went “that doesn’t matter; i’m GONNA do it!!!!” i am crying for both of them forever but i love seeing them continue to be so amazing
- i talked about this on another post, but i have loved having minato around for these episodes. i finally feel like i’m actually *fond* of him, whereas before, the best i could say was that he was an impressive shinobi and i didn’t DISlike him. but it is so much fun to see what a massive awkward weirdo he is, with his ridiculous jutsu names and asking naruto “sooooooo......is this your girlfriend?” the man is a DORK. he’s a certified dork.
and yet at the same time - in a fight, he still possesses that sort of cold, “our family is shinobi” ruthlessness, which sounds like a bad thing, but isn’t how i mean it. it’s just a “we do what we must” vibe, and i respect it, especially in this situation, when we really need someone like that on our side. eg, when he realizes that it’s obito up on top of the ten-tails, he teleports there and cuts his throat INSTANTLY. and it’s clear in the aftermath that it kills him to do it, but he does do it, without a second’s hesitation, because it has to be done.
that sort of decisive action is what i would have expected from him, given our past introductions to his character, but i appreciate that this arc is also showing us his human side, and the depth of compassion he feels, and the weight of his guilt, and the fact that he actually cares about what happened to the kids who were his responsibility and whom the shinobi world swallowed whole.
- all of those images of what life could have been like if obito had just come home...........that was EVIL. why would they make me see that. the knowledge that he and kakashi could have gone through all of their suffering together, that neither of them would have had to ever be alone, that they could have had in each other what kakashi’s kids are going to have someday...that was too much. i already think about that daily. i did not need to see it animated for me onscreen.
- i appreciate the fact that naruto’s attempt to talk obito over to the other side didn’t work. i just think on a fundamental level that this isn’t really something naruto should be able to do. naruto’s presence and what he represents make a difference, obviously, but i just think that reaching obito is kakashi’s job. which is essentially what minato says when he sends naruto away, so i appreciated that.
i’m sure there are lots of things i’m missing (so much is happening!) but just some yelling about the end:
- sooooo naruto is almost dead. or temporarily dead. my assumption is that gaara is taking him to kurama’s other half inside minato? but that’s just a guess; i dunno. (i’d be happy if that’s where they were headed, because it would at least mean that naruto and sakura and kakashi are back in the same place together, so i’d appreciate that.)
- sasuke is also almost dead. hopefully taka can go pick him up...even though he’s been so terrible to them...he owes them so many apologies
- WHAT HAPPENED TO BEE????? *distraught face* obviously we all know naruto and sasuke are going to be fine eventually, but bee must’ve been disconnected from eight-o too......... ;_______;
- i’m just gonna come out and say it. i think yamato is here. you all can laugh at me later if i’m wrong, but i think yamato is here trapped inside swirly and i cANNOT handle that
- madara said something very brief about sasuke’s eyes that i’m curious about......are we finally going to get more information about the different sharingan patterns?
- the new ending credits start off as the usual naruto-sasuke show but then kakashi and sakura come bursting in and honestly the emotions i felt......THAT IS WHAT I WANT. I WANT ALL FOUR OF THEM TO MATTER AND TO BE THERE TOGETHER.

Gentle Reassurance
Gentle Reassurance Fandom: Naruto Pairing: SasuSaku Summary:AU A small story that gives a bit of backstory for Sasuke in my upcoming Superhero AU. AN: Had this finished roughly six months ago, I think. Now that I have a post date in mind for the story it pairs with, I figured it should be posted to whet the appetite. :3
Sasuke Uchiha understands the idea of guilt better than almost anyone he knows.
As a child, Sasuke had wanted to be a firefighter. He had told his father this once, voice filled with all the enthusiasm and giddiness contained in his little body, and his father had looked at him thoughtfully. “Why do you want to be a fire fighter?” He had asked after a pause too long to be normal, but brief enough that it was unable to qualm the young boy’s excitement.
“So that I can save everybody!” Sasuke had responded in a heartbeat.
And Fugaku Uchiha, seasoned police chief, had answered, “If that is what you want, remember one important fact, Sasuke; you cannot save every person every time.”
He had been puzzled and disheartened by the comment at the time. After all, what does a child really know about life and adulthood, about the consequences that can befall those with responsibility weighing them down? Years and many loses later, Sasuke understood what exactly his father had meant. Those words were not said to end Sasuke’s desire to pursue that career path, but rather a forewarning of one of the more painful realities to said profession. As he grew up he saw how his work effected his father; the dark shadows under his eyes, the long distant stares, and the way he would flinch when news reports involving the police came on screen. Sasuke watched the flickers of anger and guilt cross his father’s eyes as the reporters berated the police force on failing to protect innocent civilians.
Fugaku Uchiha was a man proud of what he’d accomplished, proud of his career, and Sasuke admired that confidence in his father. He could see, however, how the way the media talked about their mistakes affected his father. After all, many people let what they read and heard color their reality of a situation. But when the media only highlighted what they felt was important – which was typically only half of what was actually relevant to understand a situation – it bred mistrust and animosity. Many a time Fugaku had been publically criticized and hackled because of what the media presented about his profession. It was this display that led Sasuke to become interested in media coverage and how it operated. He became passionate about becoming a figure in the media circuit that gave the public the full story – as opposed to just what made for good ratings – and ended up becoming a journalist with the most popular paper in their city of Konoha.
It was his personal feelings and experiences with his father that made it so easy for him to sympathize with his girlfriend, Sakura Haruno.
Despite the two of them being the same age and Sasuke having worked at the newspaper for a little over a year now, Sakura was still a student on top of working as a pediatric nurse at a nearby hospital. Sakura was going back to further her education, aiming for a doctorate, while taking advantage of having a degree that permitted her to work in the field. “This way, I’ll have the chance to establish a good reputation for myself so that getting into a good position once I have the doctorate will be easier,” She had explained. It made sense to him but he knew how hard it was for her to keep up the balance between school and work.
Especially given that Sakura was passionate and dedicated to her work; ergo, she tended to become attached to the children she worked with. And that wasn’t always a good thing. Sasuke learned very quickly that when something bad happened at work, Sakura would keep it bottled up inside and put on a brave face. She would hold it in and let it tear her to shreds, slowly and agonizingly, until she would just fall into an anxiety attack. The first time it happened Sasuke had been stunned, having never seen his girlfriend so completely rattled, but rebounded and managed to calm her down enough to talk about the issue. At that time, one of the children that had been in recovery had just gotten his latest test results back and they’d found his cancer had returned. Sakura felt terrible because the family had been so happy about how his health was improving and the news had been a devastating blow. She talked about the horror of watching the light fade from the child’s eyes as he realized he’d need to resume treatments that left him ill and miserable.
To try and help deal with this problem, Sasuke had managed to get himself warmed up to one of the elderly nurse’s that Sakura worked with to get updates on when she’d had a tough day. The older nurse would typically call him and let him know if there was anything that had happened with a patient of Sakura’s; without relaying any information that breached doctor-client confidentiality, of course. Sasuke would then take a few steps on his end to help her at home.
He knew that poking or prodding at her would only frustrate her, push her to lash out. For all her empathy and care, Sakura did tend to have a short fuse when she was sporting a sore spot. So he would take a gentler approach that had always yielded positive results. He would make sure dinner was ready and waiting when she got home – and avoid the subject of how work went at the dinner table – and have a carton of the green tea ice cream she loved on stand-by. They would watch whatever she wanted while they had the ice cream and he’d let her take a shower first. And once they were settled in bed, he’d just pull her to him wordlessly. She would turn and burrow into him and she would most likely fess up to what was eating at her.
And he would just listen to her, no judgment or chatter, because he knew that was all she needed.

“I finally understand”
I was supposed to write this for April 3rd, on NaruSaku day, but as I told you guys I was super duper busy, and sadly wasn’t able.
But here I am with it now. :D Hope you enjoy! I also have such a beautiful imagery in my head, too bad I cannot draw. T_T
The warm breeze danced with the last remaining cherry blossoms before their departure, and birds were chirping their lithe spring song. A beautiful and peaceful day, perfect for receiving Sasuke’s visit to Konoha after his long travels.
They were supposed to meet at the bench, that fateful place that was witness to their teammate departure for revenge, and yet today, it was one to the changed winds of the present. Sakura was already there, thinking back and forth about the past and the present, smiling from time to time, thinking at how much things had went up and down. Naruto was supposed to have been there, but as time passed, he seemed to borrow from Kakashi’s old habits of being stuck on the “path of life”.
“That baka...” she thought to herself while a warm smile curled her lips. “Always running here and there, never really standing still in one place” her thoughts continued flowing into her mind. “I just hope you’ll make it on time and not make Sasuke-kun wait. After all, you kept going on and on about how he’s so late to visit us, and here you are now, not even being able to keep your end of the bargain.”
It wasn’t long until in the distance as you looked inside the village’s gates that a glowing silhouette could be spotted. With his heart racing and his breath quite abrupt after the long run, Naruto finally made it and saluted her.
“Sakura-chan! Sorry for being late, but you see, I left home earlier and on the road here I stopped at Ichiraku’s to salute the old man and he made me an offer I couldn’t refuse: a free bowl of Ichiraku, since now I am one of the heroes who saved Konoha and the entire shinobi world...”, he spoke in a hurry in order to try to explain Sakura as quick and as objectively possible so she could understand and not get mad at him. But as he was relating his granted not fully excusable experience, he stopped when he saw Sakura laughing.
“Sakura-chan... what’s so funny?” he asked puzzled, not understanding exactly Sakura’s reaction, as he would’ve expected her to lash at him rather than... well, this.
Sakura stopped laughing as serenity took upon her and looked at him warmly.
“Remember us in the old days, more explicitly in our genin days?” she asked.
“Yeah, you were so cool back then!”, Naruto replied quick and as if it was an instinct, an extension of his self.
“No, I wasnt!”, Sakura quickly corrected him as her brows furrowed for a moment but quickly tuned back to their relaxed state. “I was only a bookworm. A bookworm with no resistance and skill in combat whatsoever. You know, for a long time I thought that I would never make it on the front, there, with you and Sasuke-kun, and that I could only watch you guys from the back”, Sakura continued as flashes from those old times were going through her mind.
Naruto stopped his story and looked at her without interrupting. For a moment, her story reminded him of all the times he felt unsure with his own power and place inside this world.
“I thought that what I had learned, what I had stored in this big forehead of mine was all for nothing, that there was nothing I could do”, she added. “That my Heaven wasn’t going to help at all in my Earth problems”, Sakura kept going as she remembered Iruka’s lesson from the times of the genin exam.
“But I couldn’t just give up. I had to do something, somehow. There had to be something I could do with everything I had learned”, she continued as passion started boiling in her veins and enveloped her self as she was telling Naruto all those things, clenching her first.
“With this big stubborn forehead of mine”, she added when she changed back into a more relaxed state, bringing her hand over her seal, as that serene smile came back to her face.
“I had to find a way to protect you two” Sakura said as her she caressed gently her forehead seal. “I couldn’t just give up” she told him, looking straight into his eyes.
At that moment, Naruto’s pupils grew large, as two memories at the same time flashed inside his mind. One was of those times when Kakashi had asked him if he was serious about not understanding her genin exam fight with Ino, and the second, at the same time, was of when for the first time he understood why he liked her so much.
"I finally understand”, he thought to himself as he reflexively moved closer to Sakura, took her hands into his and kissed her forehead.
He couldn’t explain from where this courage on his heart, as he always feared that she could straight punch him into the Hokage faces if needed be, but this time, he couldn’t just keep it for him, his impulses and such strong feelings were far beyond his control up until now.
“You always had a charming forehead. Made me want to kiss it for so long”, he added as his lips detached from her forehead.”

Lingerie Mishaps
Author: meemzdisaster
Summary: (Cannon – Blank Period) He ends his redemption journey, and makes way to his old teammate’s apartment. After all, he has a promise to fulfill.
Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto
Prompt: SasuSakuFest Day 3 – Her Intimates
Comments: This was longer than I anticipated! It was actually pretty fun/easy to write this prompt. I feel like this could totally happen, to be honest. Anyways, as always, enjoy!
Sasuke’s mouth hangs open while his sole visible eye widens. His ever so emotionless façade is broken by the object hanging off the edge of the couch. It takes him a moment to regain his composure but definitely not enough to calm his red cheeks.
Sasuke stands in the middle of Sakura’s living room, where everything seems to be in place except for two glass empty glasses of water and a gift box on her coffee table… and the pieces of fabric he almost sat on when he planned to wait for Sakura to come back from wherever she went.
Usually, he is not a man who breaks and enter. But is it breaking and entering if Sakura has already offered him a when he came back to Konoha – telling him to feel free to enter whenever he came back from travel using the excuse that he must be tired from his journey.
He picks up the garment with the tips of his fingers, barely holding onto the smooth fabric. The black fabric contrast with his pale hands as he holds it up higher to inspect. His eyes narrow as he clearly sees that there is barely anything for his eyes to focus on. Sasuke is holding it at its lacy strap. And while there is no structure to the garment, he can clearly see the narrowing at the waist of the one-piece. For the most part, the fabric is see through except for certain areas.
Upon realizing exactly what the opaque are meant to cover, his face reddens similar to a ripe tomato. But the embarrassment does not stop his mind from churning up images of Sakura wearing the piece of lingerie. The thoughts themselves are enough to distract Sasuke to the point where he doesn’t hear the sound of footsteps coming closer to the apartment door, the sound of jingle keys opening the door, and the sounds of a conversation.
“… –kura, many would be charged with treason for punching the Hokage.”
“Tch. He knew what he was asking for when he sent me that –“
The conversation abruptly stops as the pinkette eyes focus on the dark male stand in the middle of her living room. Still in his travel gear, a grey cloak covering his shoulders and his arm extended holding lingerie.
“SASUKE-KUN!?”
Sasuke flinches back into reality at the scream of Sakura’s voice. His head whips to her direction, and his visible eyes widens slightly as he remembers exactly what he is holding. The arm immediately slips back into the covers of his cloak, making it no longer visible. He almost felt as if he is a child who is caught with his hand in the cookie jar. He quickly regains his composure, and while his face does not portray a single emotion, the tips of his ears are red.
“When did you… what are you… Are you holding lingerie?”
Ino stands by Sakura, viewing the interaction between her childhood crush and her best friend. She bites her lips to keep them closed, and clenches her stomach to stop herself from bursting out in guffaws. Tears weld up in her blue eyes as she tries her hardest to hold it in.
“… Aa… I… visit… laying there…?”
Sasuke can’t help but inwardly cringe as to how butchered his explanation is. His eyes warily stare at the two females by the door, gaging their reactions.
Sakura mouth opens and closes as she tries to process the situation.
Unable to hold it in any longer, Ino’s body shakes with laughter as she tries to control herself by holding onto her stomach and covering her mouth. But the loud laughter still escapes past her hands, as her body racks and tears flowing from her eyes. Ino only manages to hold herself in as she sees Sakura’s fist clenching, her face blooming bright red that even put her hair to shame.
Quickly, not wanting to be the victim of Sakura’s punches, Ino’s hands fly up to wave in dismissal to Sakura.
“I –“ Ino chokes back a laugh, biting her lips momentarily with wide eyes, before continuing, “I’m sorry. It’s not funny… I’ll leave!!”
Ino quickly turns around before either Sakura or Sasuke make a comment or try to stop her, and sprints down the hall – only to turn in a safe distance to turn her head and holler, “Wear it and have fun tonight! Call me!!”
A snapping sound can be heard as Sakura’s hand crushes the knob she has been holding on since the door opened.
Still mortified, she stares down the hallway where her best friend has just run away to. Nothing but awkward silence embraces the couple.
A couple of deep breaths in and out of Sakura to calm the deep red blush on her face. Once she gathers the courage to finally face her old teammate again, she closes the door and turns to look at him. Only to see him, once again examining the thin garment, but this time, his eyes travel back and forth between her and the piece of cloth.
Her eyes twitch out of irritation, “Sa-Sasuke, what are you doing?”
His single visible brow arches, his look questioning, “Why do you have this?”
Seeing him for the first time in so long, Sakura isn’t exactly pleased with their first conversation in almost a year. Exasperated, Sakura just makes her way over to Sasuke to snatch the flimsy outfit from his hand and stuff it back into the box it came with, “I don’t.”
Sasuke can only vaguely process what Sakura said because his eyes are focused on the fact that she has just decided to bend over in his view to put away the object in question. Still his confusion is there.
Sakura stands back up and turns to face him, waving her hand to dismiss the topic, “Our perverted sensei thought it would be funny to send me lingerie.”
Sasuke’s eye darkens, and while Sakura notices this, she dismisses it with a roll of her eyes, “It’s a joke – there’s a note somewhere in there saying ‘Enjoy welcome your present’. Whatever that mea–.”
It is almost like a light bulb lights up above both of their heads as they realize just how sly their sensei is.
I told him….
He knew!
Sasuke had initially sent a letter to Kakashi stating his intent to come back to the village – if, as the Hokage, Kakashi allowed him to.
“I’m going to kill him…” Sakura mutters as she quickly turns around and bends over to stuff the wrapping over the scandalous outfit in order to not make eye contact with Sasuke, and to calm the blush that has reappeared.
While pushing the garment down as far as possible with one hand, and the other holding the lid to place back onto the present box, Sasuke’s hand shot out to stop her from placing the lid.
Sakura’s head turns to look at him in surprise, only to see Sasuke a lot closer than anticipated. Their nose almost bumping, she has a clear view of both of his eyes and face.
Her face parallels the ripe tomatos I’d eat… Smirking at the implication of his own thoughts, “Wear it.”
She sees the mischief dancing in his eyes, and the playful smirk directed at her. She can’t help but let her eyes widen at his request? No, command.
And as fast as she interprets his actions, she begins to feel herself suffocating and her mind no longer making any sense. His playful face no longer has the playful attitude but instead his brows are scrunched together, but his is blurry so she cannot make out his expressions.
“!”
“Sakura!”
Sakura lands with a soft thud against his chest. Sasuke manages to catch her in time of her fall, with his arm looped around her waist to pull her against him. He moves towards to couch to sit down, still with her in his arm, laying against his chest.
He takes advantage of the situation and rests his head on the top of her head. He feels her even breaths against his neck and closes his own eyes, feeling serenity for the first time in a long time.
Too much, huh?
A small smirk graces his lips as he dozes off with the only girl he ever intended to protect.

I disagree with anon. There's hating a ship, then there's hating the character itself. Even without SS, Sakura was still largely hated across the fanbase for the most shallow of reasons. Some still blame her for Neji's death. I really doubt SS expected Sakura to get shafted to this point; from what I've seen, they are just as angry and sadden by this. At the same time, I'm aware that NH (not all shipper, if they are reading!) really only "supported" SS just to get Sakura out of the way. (1)
Honestly, I never meet Sakura hate so strong from that fandom. I remembered how the majority started acting all haughty with SS after The Last, then outright dropped SS when Gaiden came out. Some were even disappointed that Karin wasn’t outright confirmed the mother and called the manga a waste. For those NH who used to “support” SS, you would think they’ll have some sympathy for their “sister” shippers? (2)
The legit hate for Sakura is honestly so incredulous to me. The only fandom I’ve been in with character hate half as strong was Kingdom Hearts with Kairi. And even then the hate was half as strong, and only within fandom. The hate died down over the years. But Sakura? The fandom, SP, SJ, assistants, editors, hate her to this point? They are absolutely okay with erasing her importance within the manga? Okay with giving Hinata everything they hated in Sakura? The interview with Kishi (3)
comparing Sakura to a secondary character, overall downgrading her importance in the manga made me sad. But the reaction from NH succeed my disappointment in Kishi, and I only felt even more bitterness towards NH and Hinata. (4)
It’s why I can never like Hinata or NH, no matter how much they try and convince me. To be happy that they aren’t force to acknowledge Sakura as a heroine? Was NS that intimidating? Was Sakura that bad? I’m sorry that this small thing turned to a rant, but I felt if Sakura (and Team 7) was in a different fandom than this one. To have hate so strong that even her own creator hates her along with the franchise? To STILL blame her for Neji? I’m just so sad that this is what she is reduced to. (5)
I only wanted better for her, but with this fandom it’s like you have to go above and beyond for her just to get that fandom to like her even a little. On top of that, deal with a franchise that wants nothing to do with her either. Yet they will put Hinata on a pedestal and call her the heroine? The franchise legitimately putting her as a main cast, when she was barely a secondary in Part 2? How did she became relevant and shoved into our face as being better than Sakura? (End)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Granted, that was/is also a factor but it’s the SS that was the fuel to NH by some sort of sick alliance, and then trying to bury every shit Kishi threw at Sakura via Sasuke because of her proximity to Naruto and the possibility of her being with Naruto in the end. But these are old shannenigans.
Granted, Sakura was hated in the fandom because of the most stupid reasons, however when it came down to comparing her with Hinata, if it weren’t for a let’s say very ardent fan of Hinata’s everyone knew and acknowledged the fact that Sakura tops Hinata no matter what. It was basic knowledge 101.
But then Studio Pierrot came and started the stealing. Sakura is a medical ninja? Everyone is a medical ninja.
Sakura has a superior chakra control, even moreso than her powerhouses of teammates? Everyone gets it.
Sakura can tell via her medical ninjutsu where it hurts in the body or it’s a certain problem? Throw that away, make Hinata tell her via her Byakugan because lol Sakura surely must’ve forgotten to do that with only medical ninjutsu via water detection, in order to force down our throats a friendship that never really was there - at most, some respect showed by Sakura to Hinata, never the viceversa.
Some still blame her for Neji’s death because things were written as such. That was the effect they wanted. While Sakura the medical ninja couldn’t be there when Naruto called for a medic-nin, have Hinata-hime-sama be there and offer him the emotional support he needed (although via Sakura was shown to us what he really needed, but anyway). Sakura was written off at that point to make place for Hinata, all while in the meantime Studio Pierrot via their shitty interventions was already stealing everything from Sakura and giving it to Hinata. SS-ers saw that, they were here with us as well. We were already screaming about the damage control Sakura was taking because of Hinata but most of them didn’t care, as long as it took NaruSaku out of the way…
And dear boy I know I screamed right and left about this because I saw the bullshit they’re trying to pull. I don’t know exactly for how long you’re around the fandom anon, but as I said before, I came from a NH and SS background that went along with NS given the development. And also besides that, what made me distance from NH mostly was their hate for Sakura. I was a NH shipper that happened to like Sakura very much. And so, being accustomed to how these pairings function, I saw the impending shit that was about to come, and screamed about it, but who was going to listen? I was a NaruSaku, to hell with me, despite me saying multiple times that before being a NaruSaku or any other type of shipper, I am a Sakura fan.
So you see, here it’s a mix of many elements at the middle, and sadly they did have a major contribution to this, sorry to say it. Not all of them, ofc, but…
And it was never a sister ship with them… It was an alliance against NaruSaku. That was the immediate threat to them. Everyone knew that Kishi wouldn’t have the balls to end it with NaruSasu because of the controversy (despite drawing them in also), so the next best thing was NaruSaku - especially given the story’s construction mechanisms - everything was pointing at NaruSaku, no matter how much some still want to deny it. It’s basic storytelling 101 in a piece of literature (more or less).
Hell, they even changed the story triangle. There was one always inside team 7, and now in his newest interview Kishi mentions one that was nonexistent between Naruto, Sakura and Hinata. He literally took all the things that NH were fantasizing about and used them as “logical explanation” when his own story was contradicting him.
And yes, for some stupid reason people hated Sakura because Kishimoto pulled at the heart strings of people with poor orphan Naruto, but God forbid someone points Naruto’s horrible behavior, they must be linched - which Sakura does at the beginning of the story. Naruto was after all a pretty stupid kid that did stupid things. Yes, he had ulterior motives, but does that excuse his behavior? If we cannot excuse the behavior of one, why excuse his, know what I mean?
And also people aren’t used to look at the broader picture because somehow … reasons. Yes, Sakura told him all those things, but at the same time supported him and his stupid dream with her love for Sasuke and her “horrible” behavior still did much more than Hinata with her love for Naruto. But then people come with the excuse that she was shy. So we can excuse Hinata of her shyness for NOT helping Naruto when he most needed it, but we cannot excuse Sakura for expressing her pissed self at Naruto whenever he did something stupid DESPITE ACTIVELY doing stuff for him? Hmm, I smell double standards.
And yes, it’s funny how when they take stuff from Sakura and add them to Hinata everyone is okay, because it’s Hinata. This only once more shows the double standards and hipocrisy that lies deep within the collective counsciousness of this very fandom.
And, after all, it’s not the fandom’s fault as much as it is Kishi’s and how he never put his finger on something for certain, out of God knows what reasons… I can only speculate, but some are for certain - he doesn’t have a backbone.
From defending fiercely your heroine to actively replacing her… pfft. Laughable.
If he would’ve had a backbone he would’ve finished the story properly. You know how they say “Stand for what you believe in, even if you stand alone”.
Something he tried pushing with Naruto, too bad he failed miserably.
I wanted better for her too, and actually trusted Kishi he will do better. I created theories about where he’d be going with her, things that eventually come to fruition (her seal, chakra nature and some others), but the thing that disgusted me the most about this was seeing some things that were clearly going to go to Sakura, being used for Hinata, dare I say some ideas I layed down in my theories, being used now, via other means.
At first I thought it’s me being crazy, they couldn’t possibly use that… and then the latest chapter of Boruto comes and they use for him what the NS fandom creates for Shinachiku.
To answer your question - yes, NaruSaku was that intimidating. That intimidating that they cannot erase 15 years of development, that they now try to steal ideas from the NS fans to burrow us as deep as possible because otherwise we won’t shut up, that bad of an intimidation, that they make it so defiant to NaruSaku fans, so that we’ll eventually shut up and stop being the thorns in their back.
Well, too bad. We’re here and we’re staying. They can steal how much they want. The records showing that we were there with ideas and whatnot long before them it’s here.
For someone who writes about Gods and whatnot, Kishi and his editors should know about the Akashic records. They’re imprinted in the human collective counsciousness, and no matter how much they want to silence and erase Sakura and NaruSaku, they can’t.
And this only pushed me to continue my initial analysis on Sakura’s character. Ohoo, it’s going to be so much fun to demask all the bullshit mechanism behind their actions. SO MUCH FUN!
Anyway, I turned this into a rant and went into deeper stuff myself, I should probably end it here. But yeah, this thing is a mess. A salad, to be more exact. ;)
