I had a few more ideas for Ukitake appreciation week but the last couple of days have kicked my ass. I had no energy left and no motivation.
Yesterday in particular was... a day. Another to add to the list of... days.
But after today I have 2 weeks of holidays. So get ready for drawings, some Uki, some Mayuri because I MISS HIM - and a few more chapters of fic where I get to torture Kenpachi a little more - he likes it, don't look at me like that!

Rebuilding Family
Summary: Y/N and Spencer were college sweethearts at Cal-Tech but once Spencer got accepted to the FBI Academy, he ended things deciding it was not fair to make Y/N wait for him. When they meet again years later, he discovers something unexpected.
Pairing: Spencer Reid x Fem! Reader
Masterlist
Chapter 9
“Dinner at my house at 7. Be there,” Rossi announced to everyone in the bullpen.
Everyone nodded, accepting the invitation.
“Sorry, I can’t. I have Jo tonight,” Spencer declined.
“Bring her with you. The more, the merrier! Her mom is welcome too, I would use her name but I’m still in the dark about that one,” Rossi said.
“Well, I, for one, would love to meet the lady that Pretty Boy is throwing punches for,” Morgan smirked.
“Henry will be there, Spence,” JJ informed Spencer, trying to convince him to bring Jo.
“Alright, Jo and I will be there. I will ask Y/N and yes, that’s her name if she decides to come,” Spencer gave in.
-
“I don’t know, Spencer...can’t just you and Jo go?” you asked.
“Yes, we could. I don’t want to pressure you but I think it would be fun if you went too. Plus, Rossi’s pasta is phenomenal,” Spencer stated.
“I don’t want to intrude...and I’m horrible at small talk,” you added.
“Rossi specifically invited you so you’re not intruding. Will and JJ will be there, who you already know, and I promise I won’t leave your side until you’re comfortable,” he assured you.
“Fine, I need to take a shower and get ready then. How formal is this thing?” you asked.
“Most people either stay in their clothes from work or go home and change into casual clothes,” Spencer shrugged.
You nodded and headed up the stairs.
A half hour later, you came down in a cream colored midi sundress with a floral pattern and a slit down the side.
Spencer’s breath hitched in his throat.
“How’s this?” you asked, giving him a little spin.
“Y-Yes that’s f-fine,” Spencer choked out.
“You don’t like it?” you frowned, “They’re gonna hate it...and me.”
You started walking back up the stairs to change when you felt someone grab your wrist gently.
“I was having trouble speaking because you look absolutely radiant,” Spencer spoke softly.
“Not too bad yourself, Doctor,” you smiled.
Spencer had lost his sweater vest and tie from the work day, leaving him in just his pale blue dress shirt with a few of the top buttons undone.
“Jo, come on! I’ve got to do your hair before we go,” you called out, pulling out one of the kitchen table chairs.
Jo came running down the stairs in a light pink sweater and overalls.
“What do you want?” you asked, using a spray bottle to wet her hair slightly and then brushing it out.
“Two braids please, Mommy.”
You parted her hair and began working on the first braid, feeling Spencer’s eyes watching curiously from beside you.
Once you finished the first one, you turned to looked at him.
“Do you want to do the other side?” you asked.
“I was observing your movements but I’m not sure if I can replicate them with the same speed and accuracy,” Spencer stated as you pushed him forward.
“I’ll be your instructor then. You’re going to need to learn how to do this. Jo doesn’t like to have her hair in her face so she likes to have it styled back somehow,” you said.
Spencer brushed the hair on Jo’s left side once more and then sectioned out three even pieces from the front.
“So basically you just keep crossing the side strands over into the middle and adding more hair to the side strands each time,” you explained as Spencer slowly started to braid Jo’s hair.
By the time he got to the end, it was a little bumpy and a small chunk of hair had been left out of the braid and was hanging astray.
“Okay okay, not bad for a first attempt,” you encouraged him.
“I think I’ve got it this time,” Spencer released the braid from its elastic and combed Jo’s hair out again.
Spencer’s confidence definitely increased this time through, he was going much faster, almost as fast as you. His tongue was poking out the side of his mouth in concentration. You had to admit that he looked absolutely adorable.
“Much better,” you smiled as he tied off the braid with the elastic.
“If you can do a braid, pigtails and ponytails will be a piece of cake,” you informed him.
“I think my fingers are cramping,” he chuckled, admiring his handiwork.
-
“Spencer, what if they hate me?” you nervously asked as you walked up Rossi’s driveway.
“They are not going to hate you,” Spencer assured you as he carried Jo on his hip, “See, JJ and Will’s car is already here so there’s two people who already know and like you.”
Spencer rang the doorbell. You heard laughing and lots of conversation inside. You were nervously playing with your hands until Spencer reached over and grabbed one, squeezing it a little before letting go again. The simple gesture soothed you tremendously.
The front opened, revealing an older man with black hair and a goatee.
“You must be Y/N,” he smiled.
“Yes, that’s me,” you shakily returned the smile.
“I’m Dave or Rossi whichever you prefer. Come inside! Dinner will be ready shortly!” he waved to Jo in Spencer’s arms.
You entered the kitchen to see a bunch of grinning faces, staring at you.
“Guys, this is Y/N and you all remember Jo,” he introduced you to the group.
You gave a small wave, “Hi! It’s nice to meet you all.”
A blonde woman was the first to get up off her seat at the kitchen counter and wrap you in a warm hug. You squeaked a little at first, not expecting it.
“Hi, I’m Penelope! Sorry, I’m an avid hugger,” she chirped.
“No worries,” you smiled back.
Another woman with long dark hair approached you next, “I’m Emily! I love your dress!”
“Thank you! I actually got it at a thrift store downtown,” you replied.
Next in line was a man still in his suit, smiling only slightly but you could tell he was trying his hardest.
“I’m Aaron but everyone calls me Hotch,” Hotch said as he shook your hand.
And finally, “Derek Morgan, at your service,” Derek grinned as kissed your hand.
Spencer narrowed his eyes at Derek.
“Ignore him,” he said to you.
“Jo, I’m loving the braids,” JJ said as Spencer set her down on the floor.
“Daddy did the left one,” she beamed.
“Did he now?” JJ looked up at you and Spencer incredulously.
“Yes, he did,” you confirmed.
“He is going to have to start braiding my hair,” Penelope chimed in.
Henry and Jack came running into the kitchen.
“Jo!” Henry exclaimed, “Me and Jack are playing tag. Wanna play?”
Jo nodded enthusiastically and Henry touched her quickly and began running away.
“You’re it!” he called out.
“Oh, that was a cheap shot, Henry,” Will chuckled as the kids all left the kitchen once again.
“Jack is Hotch’s kid,” Spencer explained to you.
“Y/N, do you want some wine?” Emily offered.
You looked up at Spencer and he nodded, mouthing “I’ll drive home”.
“Sure! Thank you,” you accepted the glass.
You were talking to JJ, Will, and Hotch when you heard a familiar crying coming from outside. You set your wine glass down and ran to the backyard.
Jo was on the ground, clutching her knee, and the boys were hunched over her.
“Oh no, Baby J, what happened?” you asked, kneeling down.
“I fell while running and my knee got a boo-boo,” she cried.
You picked her up in your arms, rubbing light circles on her back, as Spencer came running outside carrying a mini first aid kit.
He gently rolled up Jo’s pant leg to above her knee as she clung to your neck.
“Alright, Jo, I have to put on some ointment and a band-aid so the boo-boo doesn’t get infected,” he spoke softly, applying ointment to the little scratch.
After he smoothed the band-aid over it, he kissed her knee three times.
“All better?” he asked.
“Thank you, Daddy,” she sniffled, letting go of you.
“You’re welcome, Princess. How about we have some dinner now?” he asked, using his sleeve to wipe her tears and snot.
Jo nodded and you all got up from the ground, heading back inside.
The rest of the team scrambled away from the window to pretend they weren’t just watching a truly heartwarming co-parenting moment.

A/N: I'm not saying I'm incapable of writing an angsty ending for a Fred Weasley story, but I'd rather not do that, so here comes a stupid story that occurred to me this morning, enjoy <3
Rogue-durin-16 masterlist
"Y/l/n!" I sighed. "Is it true?"
"Your mom is into divination?" George question made me throw my head back in desperation as both twins made their way through the Great Hall to meet me.
I knew that day would be a bumpy one the moment we entered in the Divination classroom. The fact that a muggleborn aced a new subject since class one was strange.
I knew I would have to give some explanation to my friends after. Ron was particularly shocked by the fact that my muggle mother had taught me —against my will, may I say— lots of Divination-related things. I knew Ron, being Ron, would surely tell every soul that would listen about his discovery, but I had hoped for him to wait until the third period at least.
"Secrets spread like wildfire here." I said.
"Are you secretly a soothsayer?"
"Yes, Fred. You see, I have the Sight." I ironically stated, and, seeing this as a perfect opportunity to get closer to the boy I fancied, I added "Want me to read your palm?"
They shared an amused look, fully aware that I was joking. Even in the Wizarding World, divination wasn't something to believe in.
There were supposed to be people able to see the future, such as professor Trelawney, but no student had seen her predict a thing, so she wasn't the best example.
George was the first one to sit down. "Predict my future, oh, you who were gifted with the Sight." I snorted as he laid his palm before my eyes.
I picked his hand on mines, "Hmm..." Fred hovering over my form from behind wasn't ideal for me to concentrate. "Okay so..." I felt one of his hands toying with the clasp of my necklace, brushing my nape. "Will you stop touching my necklace and sit down?" I demanded.
"Yeah Fred, sit down." George reprimanded his brother. "She's trying to see my future." I heard Fred chuntering before he plopped down on my other side, leaning on a tad too close for my liking. "Alright, fortuneteller, is there a love line?"
Of course he would ask about that. "Let's see..." I traced said line, unable to remember to the T what my mom had tried to teach me. "So, the heart line is arched... Which means..."
"That you can't tell a thing?" I slapped Fred's arm.
"Which means he's balanced." I corrected him. "You're able to realize when you need to take care of yourself, and when you should let a someone in." George seemed invested. "You'll have just one serious partner, but they'll be the right one."
"Well, that doesn't sound half bad, huh?" He looked at me with a content smile.
"My turn." Fred spoke, smacking his brother's hand away and replacing it with his left one. "The line of life or whatever." He scooted a bit closer and I felt my heartbeat pick up. "What's my fate?"
"Are you left-handed, Fred?" I questioned with an eyebrow raised, already knowing the answer. "I need your dominant hand." Oh well, that came out wrong.
"Straightforward, are we?" George snorted at his brother's remark as he exchanged hands, turning to straddle the bench to be more comfortable. "Alright, what do you see?" He had leaned on to the point where he only needed to tilt his head down a couple of inches to rest it on my shoulder.
"A hand." I deadpanned, which earned a playful push from him. "Okay, okay— I see..." A puzzled frown took over my gaze. "Wait—" I turned to George. "gimme your hand."
"What?" Fred questioned, shifting his position ever so slightly.
"Uhm..." The frown grew bigger, and I had to remind myself what I was doing was a joke. "You... don't have a lifeline?" I dubiously informed. "I mean— it sorta... Starts? but then it fades away." I widened my eyes and froze, remembering what that meant.
I saw Fred tilting his head slightly. "Is it so bad that you won't tell me what it means?" He asked jokingly in order to lighten my distraught mood.
"It— well, it means that you'll die at a young age." My eyes met his and, despite the amused smile that always danced on his lips, fear slipped out of his orbs now, too.
"Wait what?" George propped himself on his forearms to see his brother's palm. "Can't be. Check mine?"
"I just did, you git." George wasn't even smiling. Maybe he did believe it. "Yours is fine."
The three of us stayed in silence for an instant. Even if none of us believed in divination, the fact that Fred had no lifeline was rather unsettling.
"It's fine." I cleared my throat, turning to my bag and leaving Fred's hand over the table on the process. "Apart from seeing the future, I can fix lifelines." They looked at each other when they saw me grab a sharpie. "Don't move." I demanded, holding down Fred's right hand before tracing a black line where the lifeline was supposed to be. "There. A long, healthy life."
When I looked back at the twins' faces, I saw them ready to laugh. Distress had already left them, and that helped my own evaporate.
"Merlin, Y/n!" Fred dramatically exclaimed. "You've just saved my life!"
"She sure did." George agreed, patting my back.
"Now go and tell Ron to shut up." I didn't want to imagine what would happen if people started to believe I could actually predict their future; the twins were sceptic and even they had somehow fallen for it.
I was so focused on George getting up that I didn't even notice Fred's hand flipping and wrapping around mine.
A soft kiss was placed on my cheek and I felt my face heating up even before meeting Fred's proud grin. "Figured I'd give my savior something in repay." His eyes seemed to flicker to my lips for a second; it's just my imagination, I thought, unaware of Fred's thumb caressing the back of my hand until he removed it in order to stand up.
Four Years Later
FRED'S P. O. V.
One second I was laughing at Percy's joke, and the next one everything was black; not only visually, everything was pitch black in every fucking sense.
I heard nothing, I couldn't touch anything, my voice was gone.
My mind was completely blank, until a thought slipped in my brain: 'you'll die at a young age'.
My head was spiralling now. I was dead. That's what death felt like? Nothing?
Y/n's words kept going on and on, frying my brain. How ironic it was that the voice I would have forever in my mind belonged to the girl I had been in love with since I was fourteen, and the words were what we thought to be her silly prediction.
I had no idea how long it had been, but suddenly I felt it; a tear running down my cheek. A flaming hot tear, burning its way off my face. Then I felt something else, some sort of rope wrapping tight around my right hand and wrist, so tight that it made my pulse speed up.
My pulse.
It dawned on me that my heart was beating fast against my chest. It was beating.
I needed to breathe.
"FRED!" Someone forced my eyes open; It was Percy. I couldn't see him right away because the lights were blinding to my eyes, but I recognised his voice. "FRED SAY SOMETHING!"
"Y/n..." I couldn't hear my own voice, but I felt her name going through my vocal cords.
"HE'S ALIVE!" Ron cried. "you're alive-" my sight was blurry but I could pick out my younger brother's crown in front of me as he sobbed over my chest.
"We gotta get him out of here right now!!" Of course it was Hermione who got everyone moving. As both my brothers managed to pick me up, I felt my eyes closing once more. Not even the fear of not waking up again stopped me from passing out.
READER'S P. O. V.
I had volunteered as Healer to help Madam Pomfrey during the Battle, that's why it was me who received two Weasleys practically dragging a third one into the improvised infirmary.
I recognised him from his jacket. "Fred..." At first I thought it was his corpse, that's how bad he looked.
"Y/N!!" It was only when Fred seemed to tilt his head up due to Ron's cry that I reacted, rushing to help them. "Keep him alive!" I only nodded, taking Ron's place as he took off.
With one of his arms over my shoulders and the other over his brother's, we managed to carry him to one of the stretchers; his painful weak groans went directly into my ear as we moved him, triggering the tears I was holding to fall.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
FRED'S P. O. V.
"—alive, somehow." Y/n's voice, though it sounded far away, let me know she was close. "No, don't wake him up."
"Listen, you gotta get him to St. Mungo." It seemed George the one talking, but his voice was too shaky to tell. "in an hour this is gonna get really ugly, I want him out."
"George, we're besieged." Her tone was hopeless.
"Look at him, You said it— It's a bloody miracle he's still breathing." my brother's voice shattered; all I wanted was to get up, hug him and say I was okay, but I felt my brain spinning once more. "Bill and I will escort you out of the castle so..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next time I opened my eyes, terror inundated me; everything was dark again. I gasped for air and propped myself up, instantly regretting it. A stabbing pain attacked every part of my body, triggering a shocked cry out of me.
"What are you doing?!" Y/n whisper-shouted, before placing both her hands over my chest to push me back to the bed again. "Are you mental?" Her fingertips moved out of the way a bandage that covered my eyes. "Oi, listen," when she noticed my shaky hands desperately trying to reach my face, she took them in hers. "You're safe."
I tried to say something —anything—, but my throat was sore, and the only thing that was able to leave it was her name.
"Shhh." She hushed me, letting one of her hands travel to my face. "You have to rest." I would have sworn she was crying, but I couldn't tell. "Everything'll get better." Her thumb stroking my cheek was the most soothing thing I had ever felt, so it wasn't difficult for me to close my eyes, this time willingly, though I was equally scared. "I'll stay by your side." The reassuring squeeze her hand gave me, made me aware that she had noticed my fear.
Before drifting off, I felt Y/n's lips placing a chaste kiss on my forehead, making my heart hammer against my chest.
I was still alive.
A Month Later
READER'S P. O. V.
It was Ron who sent me an owl the moment Fred finally got out of the hospital. He informed me that, instead of going to the Burrow to rest a few days—as planned—, ha had gone straight to the shop.
That's how I found myself the next morning inside Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, which was not-so-surprisingly full of people again.
Due to the huge amount of customers, it was relatively difficult for me to spot the twins.
Apparently, I turned out to be easy to spot.
"Y/n!" I turned in the stairs' direction to be met with a very enthusiastic George who, before I could even greet him, engulfed me in a hug.
"I see you can't catch a break." I observed, pulling away with a big smile on my face. That place really made the trick to bring joy to everyone.
"You can't imagine." He replied, his gaze wandering around before pulling my hand. "Oi, Fred! Look who dropped by!" He shouted over the hubbub, leading me to the till counter, behind which I saw the reason why I had come in the first place.
Just as Fred's eyes noticed me, he attempted to rush out of the till. I left George's side as soon as I realized that he, in fact, couldn't really rush out.
"Merlin's beard!" Despite he had just had to grip the counter in order not to fall, he tried again. "Take it easy, will you?" I scolded him, steadying him by his forearms and helping him step back to rest against the till. "Do you want to go back to the hospital?"
"If you're the one taking care of me, I wouldn't complain." The first time his eyes fell on my lips, I missed it because I was still securing him. The second time it was impossible to miss. "You know? Your sharpie saved my life."
I snorted at his nonsensical words. "You're delirious, Weasley." My hands finally left his forearms, just to be picked up on his. "Still suffering from the concussion?" I joked, trying to deviate my own attention from my fast heartbeat.
Another glance at my lips.
"I should get going." George spoke behind me.
"I was going to visit you tomorrow." Fred stated, his gaze now focused on my eyes.
"Sorry to break it to you, love," I pointed out, motioning at him with our hands still held. "But you can barely walk."
"Yeah, but I needed to see you." He looked somehow sheepish; I doubted I had ever seen him like that before. "I'm gonna be as clear and concise as possible—" He cleared his throat and forced himself to look at me. "I'm pretty much in love with you." I didn't know my eye could go as wide as they went. "Thing's I've known for a good couple of years now." He shrugged. "Telling you scared me, but then this happened." He gestured at himself. "And now not being able to tell you scares me even more." His eyes scanned me before looking around. "This wasn't the ideal place to tell you, but I didn't want to wait any longer."
I gulped, trying to process it as fast as possible.
"For Godric's sake, Y/n," he gently tugged my hand. "Say something, please." Fear started to take over him, even if he tried to keep it at bay. "It's alright if you don't feel the same, we can still be friends, I promise—"
"How do I kiss you without hurting you?" I questioned, already feeling the heat on my cheeks.
I could tell by his face that, out of everything I could have said, he was not expecting the answer I had given him. "Ever the caring one." He let go of my hands to cup my cheeks. "Just kiss me," he sounded so happy, it was contagious. "I'll deal with the pain later."
I listened to him and, holding onto his blazer, stood on my tiptoes and crashed my lips against his— only because I had been wanting to kiss him for too fucking long.
I got lost in the kiss and my brain completely dismissed that an entire wall had collapsed over the boy before me just a month ago; my hands went up to his neck, pulling him closer and, consequently, earning a painful groan from him.
"Shit! sorry." I was quick to let go, suddenly very aware of our surroundings, too.
He just shook his head and pulled my back to him, this time by my hips. "I said I'll deal with it later." He spoke against my lips before going in for a second kiss.
I was more gentle now, careful not to cause him too much pain.
To our dismay, we were interrupted.
"You said love confession!" George snapped us out of it; this time the groan Fred let out was from annoyance. "not snogging session in front of our customers! Get to work!"
He huffed, unwillingly separating from me. "If you stick around until lunch time, we can resume this."
I pretended to think about it. "I guess I can find something to do until then." My smile was as wide as his, and it grew wider when he pulled my into a hug, placing a kiss on the crown of my head. "I love you too, by the way."
His laugh reverberated on his chest. "Good to know."
"Freddie! Now!" This time it was me who groaned at George's demands.
"Help me out, love." Fred requested, pulling away from me so I could help him move behind the till counter. "See you in a couple of hours?" I nodded, pecking his cheeks and walking away from the shop.
It was when I started to walk down the Diagon Alley that it clicked.
His lifeline.
The sharpie.

*****
You watched Mando as he hauled the heavy, limp bounty up the ramp of the ship. You had offered to help, but Mando, ever the gentleman, refused. So, you and the kid watched him drag the lifeless body into the Crest, and into carbonite.
Apparently, Mando had gotten so excited to see you when he made it back to the ship last night that he abandoned the body at the foot of the ship and scurried inside and into your quarters. It wasn’t like the body was going anywhere, Mando had argued. He just needed to see you.
After your little… chat over the comm, Mando was still rearing to be with you. As soon as you had fallen asleep at the end of your call, he jumped to his feet and continued on his hunt at a speed he had yet to hunt at. He had thought that after getting some of his drive for you out of his system that he could rest for a while before he kept hunting. But just the opposite happened; hearing your voice, your moans, the way your words hit him right in the chest… Maker he just had to get back to you.
He couldn’t help himself when he saw you splayed out on your bed. Your tank top was almost see through, and you only had a pair of underwear on as bottoms. He just needed a taste.
After he quietly stripped his armor and clothes off him, he gently pulled your underwear down to your knees and knelt down on the bed. He must’ve not smelled too great after days of hunting, but he was too drunk on your presence to be self-conscious.
He couldn’t stop himself from delving between your thighs, making out with your dripping cunt. It must have still been wet from your earlier orgasm, or maybe you were dreaming of him. Maker, he hoped you were.
You were asleep, so it didn’t totally matter if he tasted you with any technique or rhythm. Flicking your clit with no real purpose other than to have your taste in his mouth, to have his tongue flooded with your essence. His cock hardened at an ungodly rate, and he couldn’t help but start stroking himself fast. He didn’t care about his pleasure, or frankly your pleasure; he just wanted to taste you.
All the sudden, he heard you speak up, and you were coming into his mouth with a vengeance, and he came all over his hand with you.
He didn’t want to bother you too much, so he figured one orgasm was enough (for now). He crawled up to you, kissing your shoulders and your neck and your cheeks. You had no doubt fallen back to sleep by then, and Mando was overwhelmed with sleep as well. He drifted off with his head rested on your chest, your hands carded through his curls as his breathing slowed.
Mando had never been with a woman like he had been with you. Sure, he hadn’t technically been with you in the biblical sense just yet, but this was so different. He had had one-night stands when he had time to spare on a hunt, some girl in a bar who gawked at his armor who he figured would be willing to let him get his frustrations out. A grateful damsel he saved, who was coincidentally being attacked by the bounty he was tracking. Not many women, but enough to know just what he was doing and just how to make someone writhe in pleasure.
But you… you were radiant.
Your beauty was unconventional; your skin rolled around your waist, your stomach hung over just a little with stretch marks littering your inner thighs and hips. When you slept, your neck folded into little rolls. But Mando adored all of it. Not in a patronizing way, but because you were truly just gorgeous. Not despite of your flaws, but because of them. They weren’t flaws to Mando, they were just what made you more and more perfect.
Many of the women he had been with exaggerated their pleasure. It wasn’t fake, just turned up a bit because they figured it would make Mando more confident. Mando hated that, when women would be dramatic when displaying their pleasure. You never did that, though. Your sounds were… primal. Like you were trying to hold them in, but you felt so good that you couldn’t help it. They were involuntary grunts, yells, and gasps. Just the memory of it made Mando hard under his armor.
Not to mention, you had never felt this way before. You didn’t know that there was an expectation for women to be loud and exaggerated in bed. The sounds you made were all you, and that is what got to Mando most.
Mando was pulled out of his daydreams as you approached him, feeling around his arms and shoulders.
“Do you have any cuts? What do you need treated? We don’t have a ton of bacta kits left, but if you really need it then-“
“I’m okay, I’m not hurt. Just a little bruised. All I want is some food and to hang out with you and the kid.”
You and Mando had grown accustomed to eating or drinking back-to-back since the drinking game that started all of this. It was better than Mando locking himself away in his quarters; he hadn’t shared a meal with someone in years. But being able to chat with you and enjoy his food was a luxury.
“What did this guy do?” you asked as you munched on some bread and cheese.
“No clue. They never really tell me, which I kinda get. A lot of these guys are scum bags, they should be ashamed,” Mando responded, taking a sip of water.
“Did this one put up a fight?”
“At first, but then he realized he couldn’t beat me.” You shivered for a moment, thinking about Mando’s strength. You knew the armor added another layer to make him seem bigger and stronger, but even without it he was built. He didn’t have a six-pack, he wasn’t totally shredded, but Maker, was he strong. His arms, his chest, his broad fucking shoulders, they made you needy. You had seen him knock out a man in one punch, some guy who had grabbed your ass at a bar. You didn’t know at the time why you felt an ache between your legs when you saw that, but now you do after your lessons.
After you had both eaten and fed Grogu, Mando decided it was time to depart to catch his second bounty. You grabbed any gear still lingering outside the ship, secured any loose weapons, and in no time Mando was preparing to take off. You were off to Naboo this time, a planet you had been dying to visit. Almost all of the planets Mando had taken you to were either barren or covered in buildings, large urban areas. Naboo was green, apparently, with beautiful buildings and cascading waterfalls. You couldn’t wait.
Mando sat in the pilot’s chair as you sat behind him in the passenger’s seat. Grogu, still exhausted from the three-day strike on sleep, snoozed in his enclosed pram in the captain’s quarters. So it was just you and Mando…
It was a bumpy takeoff; although Mando was a great pilot, the Crest wasn’t exactly shiny and new. The ship left Tattoine’s atmosphere, and after a few minutes of cruising in empty space, Mando put the ship into hyperspace.
It was quiet as Mando hit some random buttons and you watched the stars fly by you at an insane speed. You thought about last night, not remembering much other than coming hard. Were you dreaming? You remember waking to Mando’s arms around your waist and his face buried in your chest, but everything during the night was a blur.
“When… when you came back last night, did you fall right to sleep? Or did you-“
“Eat your pussy? Yeah, I just wanted to taste you. I hope that’s okay.” You gulped, slightly shocked at Mando’s bluntness. You were only really used to hearing him talk dirty while in the act, not him bringing it up so casually. You squirmed a bit in your seat, causing Mando to turn back to look at you.
“What, you like that? You like that I couldn’t wait for you to wake up before I tasted your cum? Yeah, I bet you do, pretty girl,” he rasped, making you whine and your legs clench together.
“Why don’t you come sit?”
“I’m… already sitting, Mando.”
“No, come sit over here, with me. On me.” Stars.
You rose from your seat as Mando turned his chair to face you so you’d have room to sit without the control panel in the way. His legs spread, and he sat back in his chair with his arms resting on his knees. Kriff, he looked so fucking good.
You weren’t sure how Mando wanted you to sit on him, so you straddled one of his thighs, gasping as the hard metal plate met your core.
“Oh, is that what you want, sweet thing? You wanna sit on my thigh?”
“Yeah Mando, can I please?”
“Of course, baby, just wasn’t expecting you to sit on me like that.” You wrapped your arms around his neck, pulling yourself in closer to him. As you moved closer, you couldn’t ignore the way it felt when you rubbed yourself on his armored thigh. It felt fucking good, the same friction you felt when Mando would use his fingers on you. Out of instinct, you couldn’t help but do it again.
“Oh fuck, is my good girl gonna grind on my thigh? Does that feel good?” You whined, Mando’s hands grasping your hips to encourage your movements. “Go ahead, baby, get yourself off on me. Take what’s yours.”
“M-Mando… feels s-so good…” Your hips sped up as the friction continued to nurse the ache growing in your cunt.
“Want it to feel better, honey? Here, let me show you,” Mando groaned, lifting you so you were planted not on his thigh, but directly over his crotch. He wasn’t wearing a codpiece, you didn’t expect him to when all he was doing was flying. So you gasped when you felt his hard cock rub up against you cunt.
“Oh, s-stars, Mando, I like this a lot…”
“Yeah? You like feeling my cock rub on you? Go ahead, grind on it, make yourself feel good.” His grip on your hips were bruising as you ground your pussy hard onto his crotch. The head of his cock nudged itself right against your clit between your clothes, making your eyes cross and hands grasp at Mando’s shoulders.
“Oh, I bet that feels s-so good, pretty girl, it feels good for m-me too… Fuck, I can feel how wet you are, it’s seeping through my pants. Keep going, you’re doing so good for me.”
Your moans got louder and louder, sounding out as “uh uhs.” Your eyebrows creased together, and Mando grabbed your cheeks to tilt your eyes down towards his.
“Look at me, baby, let me see you when you cum. Let me look into your eyes. Maker, your p-pussy is so wet, I can feel it. Come on baby I know you wanna cum, go ahead and cum.” You were shouting now, your moans echoing in the cockpit. This was the closest the two of you had gotten to fucking, and the idea of Mando’s cock being so close to your cunt sent you over the edge.
Warmth flooded you, and your legs shook violently as you came. Your thighs clenched over and over around his hips, keeping your eyes right on his visor.
“Fuck, Mando, fuck fuck, Mando, Mando!”
“Yeah, that’s it, good girl. So f-fucking good for me.” As you came down, you noticed Mando was still hard. And you still wanted him.
“Can… Can I have you? In my mouth?”
“Shit, baby, you want me to cum in your mouth?”
“Please, Mando, want you to feel good. Want your cock down my throat.” You shakily climbed off his lap and knelt to the ground. Your hands trembled as they came up to his pants, tugging at the waistband until his cock sprung up against his armor. You looked at the thigh you had just been grinding on, and saw there was a wet spot staining his armor. It made you want to cum again.
“I’m not gonna last long baby, already so close,” Mando rasped out, his chest heaving up and down in anticipation.
“I don’t care, I just need you to tell me what to do.”
“Gladly, sweet girl. Start by licking the tip, yeah just like that.” You flicked the bead of precum leaking from Mando’s cock, his taste flooding your mouth. You swirled your tongue around the tip, eventually licking down his shaft. You had almost forgotten how big he was… almost.
“Fuck, you’re doing so good. Y-You want to put it in your mouth now? You got this, baby, take it nice and- oh f-fuck me.” Your actions interrupted Mando’s train of thought, his cock entering the warm wet of your mouth. You weren’t totally sure what to do from there; Mando had just said he wanted his cock in your mouth, so now what?
“Okay, baby, you know how you stroked my cock with your hand the other day? Just do the same with your mouth, and suck while you do it. G-gonna do so well for me, I know it.” You did as he said, and his reaction was instantaneous. He moaned out so loud you’d think the whole ship could hear it. It finally hit you that Mando’s cock was in your mouth, and stars if that didn’t make a new wave of wetness flood your inner thighs. You couldn’t stop yourself from pushing your hand down your pants, rubbing your clit like Mando taught you as you sucked on him.
“H-Holy shit, baby, are you touching yourself? You rubbing that little clit? Do I make you that wet, pretty one? F-Fuck you’re doing so good, feels so good. Y-You’re a natural…” His words made you moan around his cock, the vibrations making his hips buck up into your mouth. For a second he was worried he’d gone too far, until you pushed your head down even further.
“Fuck, such a g-good girl for me, g-gonna cum in your m-mouth, d-don’t stoppp.” You sucked hard at the tip as your fingers circled faster on your clit, and you were already falling over the edge. Mando’s cum flooded your mouth as he moaned out your name, and his taste made you writhe on your fingers, white flooding your vision. The whines around Mando’s cock as you came made his orgasm last even longer, leaving him totally breathless. It took him a moment to realize that you were still probably holding his cum in your mouth, causing him to jump up and come to your aid.
“Shit, baby, here’s a rag, you can-“ He was stopped short when he noticed you breathing heavily below you, mouth agape and… empty.
“Wait, what did you do with…”
“I swallowed it. I like how you taste,” you whined, totally out of breath and fucked out. Mando’s head hit the back of his seat in awe of how hot you were, swallowing his cum the first time you took him in your mouth, just because you liked it.
“Fuck, come here, baby. Come sit in my lap, let me love on you.” You clambered up into his lap with shaky legs, overwhelmed with the amount of dopamine that flooded your brain. You were still trying to catch your breath as you rested your head on his shoulder as he rubbed your back. These were the moments you held with you when Mando was gone; his comforting touch, how gentle he was despite the damage you knew he could do. You kissed the sliver of skin that peaked out between his collar and his helmet, at which he pulled you in closer to his chest.
All the sudden you heard a crash from below the cockpit and a loud wail… Grogu.

I feel like now is a good time, or at least as good as one can get, to explain why I’m here. Why I feel so jaded and so unjustly in this chair. I’ve contemplated telling this from the VERY beginning (like 15 years ago) or I can start from now, and bring you on the journey of how I discovered I was disabled. I choose to start from now, so I hope you’ve gotten comfy and have a moment, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride. Believe me, I lived it. It sounds like a bad lifetime movie, but I promise you, it’s not. And that’s the part I seem to struggle with the most.
I was taking a bath, after my kids and bonus kids had been put to bed for the night, I wasn’t feeling well, my hips were killing me, it hurt to move, but I had assumed it was either the oncoming period or the stress I was under with the kids and finances. Then I see my stomach move, I knew I wasn’t pregnant and certainly not far enough to have that kind of movement. I yell for my fiancé, show him, and ask him to take a video, because it honestly felt surreal. It felt like an alien was inside my body, I never felt that way, not even when I was pregnant with my children. We got me out of the tub, and called a friend, who convinced me despite my hesitation and loathing for calling my doctors office, to call. I was banking on her saying it was nothing, I was wrong. Off to the local trauma center’s emergency department I go, with a doctors call ahead. Everything in my gut told me not to go, but I was in so much pain and I felt so sick, I decided to ignore my intuitions warning, and trudge ahead anyways.
We get there, and check in, we look around, and it’s going to be a long wait. We settle into a pair of seats, and wait. I get into triage, and I’m explaining what my doctor suspects and what I’m feeling, I’m brought from that triage to another, where they begin to pull blood and get an IV into my arm. Then things start to go fast, faster than I’ve ever seen them go in an ED, especially this one. I’m sent to the top of the line, ahead of several others in the ED, and brought back to a bed. Everything you would expect and should expect to happen in a ED is happening. Nurses are trying to get me situated in a bed, the resident comes over does an assessment and even he is weirded out by the stomach movement, to a point he performs an ultrasound, himself. He throws his hands up and says nothings wrong, and goes to report to his attending. The attending comes over, and she’s really concerned with my symptoms, and starts doing a neurological exam. She begins poking at my spine during this, until she hits this point where I black out. After I black out, I remember her mentioning an MRI, and agreeing (remember this, it’s important), I don’t remember anything else, until I begin waking up in a strange room, inside of something. I try to make sense of it, but I can’t place where I am. Then I’m moving, being pulled out of the place I was in and I feel a warm sensation like I’m going to pee. I sit straight up and I’m panicking, asking where am I, how did I get here, why am I in a CT scan, the doctor ordered an MRI. The next thing I feel is the hands of someone forcing my body back down, I then feel the impact, the feeling of my head going too far back, like there was nothing there to catch it. I’m screaming, thinking i’m going to be raped or something, (yay life long trauma) because I still don’t realize where I am still or who these people are. Then I begin screaming for my fiancé, who’s already trying to get into the room because apparently from the moment they began forcing me down, I was screaming. Those fight or flight instincts are strong my friend, strong. I’m finally transferred onto the stretcher that I was apparently rolled in on, and put into the hall way. Doctors start crowding me and demanding I need to go back into the thing I now realize is a CT scan. I refuse and a security guard forces them away from me, and instructs whoever was at the top of the stretcher to get me the hell away from these people. The same security guard refuses to leave the bay i’m assigned to and is actively throwing doctors out of it and nurses. He gets me calmed down with the help of my fiancé, and then informed the doctors to cut the shit and act appropriately before going back to wherever he came form. Next a nurse comes over and rips my IV out of my arm, not even taping it. Then comes the doctor who’s demanding I trust him and do whatever he says. I refuse and state I want to be discharged immediately, and that I’m going to be contacting the administrator to file a report against him. My fiancé, the saint that he is, refuses to allow me to leave until I get the discharge papers handed to me. I get them, and I wish I didn’t get them, but I did. And I look down and I see I’m pregnant, that they knew I was pregnant, and even referenced putting me in a CT scan despite knowing this. I see red, and I tell the doctor he won’t be hearing from an administrator, hell be hearing from an attorney. I hop down, and begin to walk away. I get halfway down the hall before I realize my leg I thought was just asleep, wasn’t moving, it was dragging behind me, while three nurses pointed and laughed. It was the last time I’d ever walk again, and I didn’t even know it.
From there, my fiancé and his mother insisted I go to another ED as soon as possible. I finally oblige after a hell of a lot of coaching and encouragement.
We get the kids settled into bed that same night, and we preset them. We tell them we’re going to go to the doctors that night, and that they might not see us in the morning. That their grandmother is watching them and then their aunt and uncle will pick them up if we’re not home by dinner tomorrow. They’re sad but excited to see their family, so they head to bed and they’re set. We get ready to go and my Fiancé starts trying to help me walk towards the door, I remember saying I couldn’t see anything, and I remember saying my head felt like it was going to explode. The next thing I know I’m in the back of an ambulance, headed to a different hospital. I become more lucid and the EMT asks me some questions about what’s going on. He looked at me and said “I don’t believe what you’re telling me, it’s crazy. No hospital would do that.” As soon as we arrive at the hospital, the EMT goes about telling the nurse I’m crazy and a liar. Thank goodness my Fiancé was nearby and was able to hand the same nurse the EMT was badgering, the paperwork from the prior hospital. The nurse immediately comes back to me, and apologizes, then moves me into a different room. From there, the doctor comes in and explains, that he believes everything that happened, and he agrees the sudden neurological symptoms, such as difficulty seeing and being unable to walk without passing out, are serious issues. Despite this, his hospital doesn’t have a neurologist on staff, and the best he could do was offer a virtual consult with one, from their sister hospital. If the neurologist agrees with his assessment, they would transport me over to there for further testing. Then the doctor said something I wasn’t expecting. That he felt the virtual assessment would be pointless, because it requires the patient to be capable of following a series of voice prompts, which he already determined I couldn’t do. We asked if we could discharge AMA and go over to the hospital he was referencing, as I would be transferred there anyways. He agreed it would be best, but that he needed us to understand the dangers associated with that. We agreed, and followed through with his plan.
I want to stop and take a moment to note, that hospital was probably the most helpful, as they didn’t even try to say they could handle whatever it was that was happening. They agreed what was happening to me was abnormal and emergent, validating us off the bat for the first and perhaps only time I can recall. They explain that they don’t have neurologist on staff, and that the best they can do is a virtual consult, and that given my condition it would do nothing but hurt and upset me more. That is a hospital that deserves the clout other larger hospitals in the area receive. And if I ever get a chance to reinvent the health care system as a whole, the doctors and staff I encountered at this hospital, are ones I want to work with.
We arrive at the other hospital, and frankly it seems to be better than anything we experienced so far. The ED waiting area was clean and nearly empty. The Triage area is clean and the nurse is understanding and attentive. I remember being brought back to the bay I was assigned to. I don’t remember much else. I remember the doctor examining me and it hurt so bad I blacked out again. I remember vaguely them attempting to put me into an MRI and panicking, and then nothing, until nearly two days later, when I wake up and notice I’m in a room on a different floor of the hospital. My fiancé quickly recapped what had gone on, but I frankly to this day don’t remember what happened leading up to waking up on the neurological floor. I remember talking to him about having not peed for a while, and being concerned that I hadn’t peed. He immediately set about getting that fixed. I remember a commode being brought into the room, and him helping me get transferred. I remember them being astonished that I had that much urine in me. That probably should have been my first sign, but I guess hindsight is 20/20.
We went to bed, or at least my Fiancé did. I woke up, about 7 hours later and rang for the nurse. You see, I have a background in direct care, so I knew if I wasn’t able to feel my bladder, I needed to do something called time voiding, which is basically timing yourself to use the bladder at evenly spaced intervals, so that urine doesn’t build in your bladder, stretching it or worse, causing it to burst. I tell the nursing assistant who came in, I needed to urinate and needed helping getting to the commode to do so. She shot back a nasty comment about waking my fiancé to help. I explained he hadn’t slept in days, and that I would rather not wake him. I then asked if she could please help me get onto the commode and off of it a second time. She said she’d be right back. She never came back other than to continually turn my call bell off. I eventually peed the bed in my sleep that night. When I woke up I told my fiancé what had happened. He immediately informed nursing staff and so did I. He had to beg for new sheets to be brought to me, and for a new gown. He then had to beg for help to get both me changed and the bed changed, as he didn’t know what to do or how to do it. The finally helped get me and my bed changed, and stated the nurse I had the previous night wouldn’t be assigned to me.
From there the neurologists came in, and told us they were going to be doing an MRI but that they couldn’t use anesthesia, as I was pregnant. And that most of what needed to be done to find out what’s happening, isn’t something you can be pregnant for. We explain that at this point, my health comes before anything else. We have four kids, all who need their mom, and that they and I are the priority, not an unborn child at this time. Then one of the members of the neurological team becomes upset that I would say such a thing. I ignored it, and reiterated my stance and that it’s my right to choose, and that we had already been looking at fostering, so it wasn’t a decision made lightly, but rather one that we weighed heavily and consulted others about before making the decision to abort. We then are told by the neurologist that if that is the case, they would be able to move forward. We were fine with that, and assumed it was done. Then the same doctor came back in after my fiancé left to grab food, to attempt to “inform” me of my other options in regards to my pregnancy. I quickly and very sternly asked her to please keep her opinions to herself, and asked her to leave. I had to call my Fiancé to get her out of my room, and to stop trying to guilt me for our decision. She was removed from my case, however it wasn’t the last time she’d pop up in this story.
The MRI went well, it was hard to finagle, but it went well. The anesthesiologist made sure he was the last person I saw going in, and the first one I saw waking up. I was moved back to my room, and the rest of the evening was relatively uneventful, until I needed to use the commode again in the middle of the night. I woke up, hit the call bell, and then the same nurse appeared, smiling ear to ear. I said I needed to be toileted, she simply said “ok” and walked over to me, took my call bell and put it out of reach, then took my glasses from my side table, and walked away. I tried to wake my fiancé up, but he was dead to the world. Finally sleeping in a recliner and getting the sleep I needed him to get, to be able to help. I resigned myself to what had occurred, and went to bed. I woke up him, and told him I needed to pee, and what had happened. The nursing staff insisted the woman wasn’t in my room the night prior. When I pointed out the call bell being put somewhere I couldn’t reach and my glasses being MIA they didn’t say anything, just that the nurse wasn’t in my room. We later received confirmation she was in my room, because she was still assigned the night prior to my roommate. I became so overwhelmed by this, I started to have an anxiety attack, and I began asking for my anxiety meds. I’m informed by the nurse, that there were no orders for my anxiety medication. It was then that we realized I hadn’t even been given them, since admission. In fact the only thing they had given me were lidocaine patches and a few sporadic doses of gabbapentin. I began demanding to know why my medications hadn’t been ordered correctly or even put into the system correctly. My fiancé asserted he was told they did do that, and that clearly the physicians had mislead us into believing they were in the system and ordered. Then the issues really started.
From that moment on, I was labeled as a drug addict in that hospital. A drug addict, with no prior history asserting this, other than demanding the doctors do their jobs and get me the medication my psychiatrist had prescribed for my PTSD and Anxiety. I even tried to explain to them that by being properly medicated, I would probably be easier to deal with to begin with, because I would be able to use my coping skills to keep my fight or flight at bay. They decided they knew better, and that I was simply seeking my medication. The medication that is not habit forming or addictive, or even a controlled substance. A blood pressure medication that regulates the panic of the fight or flight associated with PTSD, and the perscription version of freaking Benadryl, and my need for both of them, do not equate to an addiction. How can a group of physicians, who arguably had to go through 10 years of schooling at least, be that uninformed about addiction? Another question I hope to learn the answer to one day and prevent from happening.
That night was possibly the worst of them all. They refused my lidocaine patches and gabbapentin that night, and then the same nursing assistant was assigned again to the room I was in. When I again paged for toileting, she choose to remove the commode from my room and place it in the bathroom, where I couldn’t get to it, even if I tried, because she also took my wheelchair. I went to bed completely defeated and beaten down. I promised myself in that moment, that I was going to change the way people with PTSD and related illnesses are treated in hospitals. I didn’t know how, I didn’t know when. I just knew I was going to do it. I had no clue what was coming next, nor did I realize it would be the fuel to my fire.
The next morning I’m again met with a team of doctors, most of which seemed to have planted their feet in agreement with the resident who told them I was a junky seeking medication, because each time we would bring up needing my PTSD meds, they would dismiss it. They informed me they still had no clue what was happening, and that they would have me meet with PT to get me set up with a wheelchair of my own, and help make other referrals in regards to my discharge from the hospital. They stated I needed to have a follow up MRI in 6 months, and that they wouldn’t be doing any further studies. I met with several other providers that day, all seeming to tell the same tale. I was fine with that, I called my primary physician, who began coordinating with the hospital in anticipation of my discharge and setting up outpatient appointments. My primary informed me that they would discharge me after the appointment with PT at 3:30, and that she made an appointment for me to follow up with her the next day. She informed me bad weather was coming and that we should probably try to leave either very early the next day or that night, so that we could get there on time and safely. We then told the nursing staff at the hospital what was happening, to make sure they were aware of the situation. They informed the resident, who came in furious we were planning to leave. We made our stance clear and made it clear we were acting based on the information both their department gave us and the advice of my physician. We went to go eat something, and made sure we were back by 3:30. We waited and waited until 4 rolled around, we called for the nurse to inform her that we needed to really get headed back soon and that we were concerned that PT was late. We were then told by the nurse the resident told PT they could come tomorrow or whenever, instead of the original plan of them coming at 3:30 that his attending agreed to with my primary physician. I was furious. I stated we were leaving regardless as I was tired of being labeled by him and that it was absolutely inappprpriate what was happening. I continued to assert this, as did my fiancé. My fiancé after this ordeal decided he needed a break and was going to start getting stuff in the car while we waited for my paperwork. Then the same resident came back in, and tried to again convince me I was an addict and that there was nothing wrong with me. I demanded he leave the room, several times, he continued to refuse until I called my Fiancé for back up and to get security. He then finally leaves. He comes back in after my fiancé is back and is handing me paperwork to discharge me. I specifically ask if my pain medication had been sent to the pharmacy, and he says yes. I state I want proof of that before signing anything. I don’t know why I said that, I think it was intuition honestly. He finally obliges, goes to the computer to do just that, and comes back saying the best he could do was send in acetaminophen and lidocaine patches. I was relieved and said that will work, thanks so much! He stands there shocked for a few minutes, as Britten begins moving me from the bed to the wheelchair. He remains there is total disbelief, until we leave.
We go down to the pharmacy at the hospital, and even the pharmacist is shocked that’s all I was discharged with, and offered to call up. We politely oblige and say that it’s plenty and that we were trying to just make it back to my doctor tomorrow, which was a 4 hour drive.
It’s a rough trip back to a hotel room to gather the kiddos who have been living it up with their aunt and uncle the last few days, and settle in for what would be a long night.
We make it without incident back to my doctors office, they get me a wheelchair and other medical equipment such as a shower chair, a commode and adult diapers. They also referred me for physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nursing services and home health aids. Things started to normalize, but we still had no clue what was happening, just that it was. From there began the mission to help me walk again, we had no clue what that truly meant or what we would find from that.
Within a few days, my condition began to deteriorate rapidly, we called upon the other parents in our childrens lives and asked them to help. That was possibly the worst idea we had, but we will get to that in another blog post.
As my condition began to worsen, we decided to try going back to the third hospital we went to, despite their terrible treatment, they at least seemed to have some answers. I could go into detail explaining the further medical abuse and maltreatment I received, but that’s again a story for another day. The important part here is that they again did nothing and the complete lack of care continued with the nursing staff similarly to the prior stay. We decided to leave and head to another hospital, one that was internationally accredited for rare neurological disorders, and frankly medical mysteries.
We did find some answers there, and the treatment wasn’t horrible, it wasn’t great, but it reminded me of the stories American’s often tell of the European health system. They ultimately decided I did have a neurological conditional, they weren’t sure which one, but they suspected something called functional neurological disorder, which lead them to suspecting I had irritable bowl syndrome and Fibromyalgia.
It was at this hospital that they located my prior medical records, showing at the ripe age of 16, over 15 years ago, a neurologist saw something on an MRI I had, due to sudden onset of seizures and other neurological symptoms that my egg donor said were fake and being caused by a variety of mental health issues I later would find out I never had. The thing that hospital discovered, may indicate I have Fibromyalgia and that I have had it for a long time. I was then informed the only reason I didn’t receive care or further testing, was because my egg donor stated she was taking me for a second opinion. That second opinion, was actually a psych hospital. I never received further diagnostic testing or any treatment by a neurologist, I didn’t even know I needed more testing, because my egg donor made sure doctors never spoke in front of me. She convinced them of this because she claimed my mental health impeded my ability to understand what they’re saying and it could cause me to use that information to manipulate others.
That discovery made me both laugh and cry, because unbeknownst to my egg donor, who I’ve been estranged from for almost a year I had been fighting with my psychiatrist for months, refusing to accept the diagnosis that my mother convinced me were true (borderline personality disorder, schizophrenia, acute psychosis and many more) were inaccurate and wrong. I went through 5 psychiatric and forensics evaluations, all indicating I had Major Depressive Disorder, Severe Anxiety and Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, none of the above issues, that my mother convinced me I had. It was the moment of realization for me, that not only had I been emotionally abused (which I had already come to terms with) and used as a medication dispenser for my mother (another realization I had already come to terms with) but medically neglected and abused as well.
From this hospital stay, I began to heal, and process and understand what was going on, that I wasn’t “crazy”, my symptoms I had, ever since a car accident at 16 years old, were real. I wasn’t crazy.
I started to make appointments, to get other things situated, such as an eye apppointment, so that maybe if my vision couldn’t be totally corrected, we could get something to at least make me feel semi normal vision wise and lower my anxiety about not being able to see.
We had no clue that appointment would take me from being a medical mystery to being diagnosed with something.
The optometrist listened carefully to what happened leading into my vision change, and he quickly tested the ability to focus in my eyes, and my actual vision. When completed he announced with absolute certainty, I have a TBI, and I needed to see a neruological optometrist, who would be able to confirm the diagnosis, and hopefully get some of the things started that we needed to get in place. I expressed my concern for his certainty, and he explained the inability of my eyes to focus, was the 2nd most common symptom for people with reoccurring TBI’s that had been undiagnosed or misdiagnosed.
We couldn’t believe it, it made sense. It explain everything, and it even explained why I was so quick to anger suddenly and had no patience, something that is unusual for me. I have always had the patience of a saint, or so I’m told. I had two disabled children, and raised them full time as a single mom until my fiancé came into the picture, and we blended our families. I was active in my community, my home was spotless, I worked over 70 hours a week, did laundry, housework and meals for a family of 6, while my fiancé worked long hours and was hardly home to help. Then I had a medical issue in August, which resulted in me being overdosed with pain medication while admitted to the hospital, another possible TBI, then we had covid in October, my personality changed after we had covid. I was no longer the same person I had been, I was miserable, angry and quick to lose my temper. I couldn’t keep up with the housework, the kids, work, nothing. By January I was often confused by simple tasks and couldn’t complete anything from start to finish, I was in increasing pain, struggling to walk. Then I was slammed down on a table by medical staff and had my neck hyper extended and having impact on the back on my head, another TBI. Then everything got worse and worse and worse. Still today, it seems I have more bad days than good while we navigate this, but we now have answers and treatment options. The light started to shine in my life again. I treasure the moments of authenticity, when I’m lucid and seem like my old self, but then I’m slapped with the harsh reality, that I’m not myself. I can’t walk, I can barely communicate, I can’t get to the toilet or prevent myself from soiling my pants. I can’t sleep with my fiancé, not sexually or even physically.
From there I get angry, so angry. I’m so angry because if I hadn’t gone to an eye doctor, I likely wouldn’t have any more information about what’s happening and I wouldn’t have the treatment options before me that I currently do. Then I get angry again, because why would my “mother” do this? Why? Why? Then it hits me, she did this, because she too is sick, but in a different way. You see, she’s also an addict, she’s also mentally ill. She enjoys having a sick child, she enjoys having other peoples sympathy. She is mentally unwell. And because of that, I suffered horrible acts of child abuse, that I couldn’t begin to explain. It leaves me with this distrust of my own body. This distrust makes me prefer that she’s right, I’m crazy instead of being abused. I would rather that, because you know what? If I was just crazy, they could lock me away and medicate me, I wouldn’t have to face the trauma I’ve endured and heal it. I wouldn’t have to try to break generational cruises, and I wouldn’t feel the need to speak out and change things, which gives her the ability to speak out as well, meaning I’ll undoubtedly have to come face to face with my abuser again. Something I would happily give my arm or hell even a kidney to not have to do. I never want to see the face of the woman responsible for stripping me of all my dignity, ever again.
I struggle with the ability to grasp my situation, I want to say just that. I flip between believing what several medical professionals have told me, which is that I’m a victim of serious childhood abuse and neglect, which literally changed the trajectory of my life. I want to say this one more time, mostly for me to be reminded as I write this entry, that my mother has verbally and physically abused me, used me as a source for multiple controlled substances, and then, choose to ignore the warning signs of a TBI in a 16 years old simply becaue it wasn’t going to keep her drug supply up. Can you say Munchausen Syndrome,”Mother”?
So believe me, when I tell you, I question every second of this, I question if I’m certifiably nuts and a liar and then I question how stupid could I be to have believed her? Why didn’t I see the signs when the 5th psychologist refuted all my prior diagnosis and replaced them with anxiety, depression and complex post traumatic stress disorder? Why didn’t I see what she was doing sooner? Why didn’t I cut her off sooner? Why didn’t I continue to assert I was ill medically, not mentally? The unfortunate answer to that question is, because I was sick and scared and trusted my mother to do what was best for me, just as so many abuse children do.
I don’t know what’s going to come of this all, but I do hope, it brings change to the world of medicine. I hope it puts the power into a 16 year olds hands to speak to their provider directly and ask questions. I hope it puts into place harsher penalties for abusers, of any form. I hope I find healing and feel better able to speak the truth of what I’ve experienced, and how much it’s truly effected every aspect of my life. My relationships, my children, my career, my home everything was effected by her one choice to not follow through with medical care.
I just want a change.

Train Cars and Sun Spots - Kaminari Denki
—/—
You think he’s beautiful.
A disarming, reckless sort of beautiful as he barrels into the train, jumping headfirst through the doors just seconds from closing. He erupts into a flurry of fidgeting as he skids to a stop, one hand patting down his wild blonde hair and the other dusting off his sweats. It’s like he can’t sit still. Like he’s got an itch in his skin that’s shifting his weight around, balancing on one foot and then the other- rinse and repeat as he grabs onto the handrail above his head for stability.
Another second passes and then he’s pulling a plastic water bottle from his bag, twisting it open and crinkling the plastic. It seems to you that that he’s trying to make as much noise possible, but then you notice his headphones. They’re black and yellow, undeniably playing at full blast in his ears. You then decide it’s much more likely that he just can’t hear himself- that he somehow doesn’t realize how much of a scene he’s making in the otherwise quiet train car.
You find it a little refreshing, him seemingly appearing out of nowhere. You’d been riding this train for weeks now, to and from school, and you’d seen the same people day after day. The same old businessmen and their same old brief-cases and their same old silence. Not him though- never him and his noise. You were sure you’d remember hearing someone as loud as him.
Still, you try not to stare.
Although, you suppose, it wouldn’t really matter. He probably wouldn’t be able to pick you out of all the other people staring. It’s like he’s got the entire train car arrested and staggered; all eyes stuck on the strange boy who was moving far too much for a 7:00AM commute.
Shifting in your seat, you balanced your book higher in your hands. You hoped that by just barely skimming your eyes over the top, hiding inconspicuously behind the pages, you could look and not be noticed.
You were wrong.
When you glance over at him, he’s already looking at you. He’s got eyes like molten gold, and when he smiles they crinkle closed into happy little slits. That smile is easy and unrelenting when he pushes away from the handrail, hands shoved into his pockets as he nears.
“Hey there!”
His words are friendly, but god, if his voice isn’t loud. You wince, beginning to think that you’d severely underestimated the volume of his music. You’re sure now that it absolutely must be bursting his eardrums.
“Oh-“ He looks sheepish. Then he’s yanking the headphones from his ears, and dropping into the seat next to you. “Too loud, right? Sorry! Didn’t realize.”
You’re stunned.
At first, it seemed unbelievable that this conversation could’ve arised from just a single glance; but then you look a little closer, at his shifting eyebrows and his grin that’s colored shades of flirtatious and it’s a little more believeable. You realize quickly that’s all it ever would’ve taken with him- A single look.
“I’m Kaminari.” He announces confidently, your silence not deterring him in the slightest. “Kaminari Denki.”
“Oh. Okay. Um, hi?”
“Hi!” He greets again, and then he’s pulling that same water bottle from his back. It’s crinkling and half-empty and he’s extending it to you. “Want some?”
It’s in the way his eyebrows wiggle, the mischeivous glint in his eyes- you can see his intentions plastered across his face. The water bottle’s just a front for an indirect kiss. Quite literally the oldest trick in the book.
You want to roll your eyes, but then you look at him again. At his bright eyes and long lashes and shaggy hair falling softly over his forehead. He’s the sort of pretty that gives a lot of second chances- you were no exception to that rule.
“No thanks.” You laugh, easily dazzled by his sunshine smile. You raise a palm to push the bottle away. “Keep it to yourself, yeah?”
“Aww, but you’re too cute not to share with!”
The line rolls off his tongue smooth and easy, and you’re sure now- Kaminari’s a flirt. A shameless, brazen one dripping honey between his words as he fluffs his hair. It’s all a little too natural, a little too practiced. It takes only seconds, and you know definitively that you’re far from the first girl he’s offered his water to.
He’s still cute though, if only in a fleeting way, so you decide to humor him. It’s not like you’ve got anything more pressing to attend to.
“Mhm. And just how often do you use that line, huh?” You ask, rolling your eyes playfully.
“I-“ He starts, but then he’s slouching into the seat laughing. “Yeah, maybe not my best work. Meant it though.”
“I’m sure you did.”
“No, really! I did!”
You look at him again.
Kaminari’s straightened himself, eyes earnest and smile kind as he gazes back. He’s fiddling with the strings on his sweatshirt, idly twirling them between his fingers. It’s a human gesture. Unrehearsed and unpracticed and seemingly only for your eyes. You begin to wonder if that’s his real tactic- coming on strong just to melt into warm, sun-soaked softness.
“Alright. I believe you. Maybe.” You say. “But you’re on thin ice, Kaminari.”
“I’ll take it!” He fist-bumps the air. “See normally, I’d be totally crashing and burning by now!”
“So you are admitting I’m not the first girl you’ve tried that on?”
“What I- Okay. Yes? Maybe?” He laughs nervously, hand once again twirling his sweatshirt strings. “In my defense, I’m not the smartest guy, alright?”
“Nor the quietest either.”
“What?”
He’s got his head turned, cocked to the side as he blinks slowly at you. You think he looks like a confused puppy.
“You practically screamed at me when you said hi.” You tell him easily, letting an amused smile crawl across your lips. “Kinda thought I was being yelled at for a second.”
“Oh. Yeah, sorry! Really! I didn’t mean to do that.”
“It’s okay. Can I give you just a little advice, though?”
“Sure?”
“Don’t scream at the next girl and then immeadiately offer her something to drink. That’s generally pretty suspicious.”
You watch the light leave Kaminari’s eyes and then he folds in his seat. He snaps at the waist, dropping his face into his palms and letting out a theatric groan.
“God, I messed this up.” He whines, peeking at you through his fingers. “Messed up real bad, didn’t I?”
“A little,” You laugh. “But it’s alright.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. You’re good.”
He smiles then, so relieved and happy and just downright giddy that it nearly blinds you. It’s the kind of smile that makes you think he swallowed the sun; like rays of light were bursting through the tiny gaps in his teeth.
“So, what’s your name then?” He asks.
“L/n Y/n.”
“Y/n. Hmm, I like it.” He sighs happily. “Pretty.”
“That’s my first name.”
“I know.” He grins, all pearly whites and crows feet. You think he’s got a dangerous smile- one that lets him get away with anything. “Figured we’re close enough for that, right?”
“I’ve known you for two minutes.”
“Hey, 2 minutes, 2 hours, 2 years- who’s counting?”
“Me.”
“Okay, well good then.” He snickers. “Because I’m like, really bad at math- Wait. Shit. Should I have told you that?”
“Probably not.”
“Man, I am bad at this.” He whines. His knees knock into yours when he throws himself back into his seat. “It’s not my fault, alright? Usually I never get this this far with girls like you.”
“Girls like me?”
“Mhm. Cute ones.”
“Oh my god.” You roll your eyes, only so forgiving. “Really laying it on thick, huh?”
“For sure. My stop’s next so I gotta make sure you actually like me at some point in the next few minutes.”
Something evil slithers into your mind, and you’re smirking when you turn toward him. There’s just an inkling, a tiny little theory in your head, and you want to test it.
“Who said I didn’t already like you?”
Kaminari jumps, his cheeks reddening by the second. There’s nothing cool or composed about him and your theory is confirmed.
Kaminari is a dork. A massive, massive, dork desperately pretending to be a cool guy.
“I- what? You like me?” He asks excitedly, voice rising higher. “Seriously? Like, actually?”
“Sure.” You giggle. “You seem pretty harmless, all things considered.”
“That’s- is that a compliment?” He asks playfully, squinting his eyes at you. “Because harmless wasn’t exactly what I was going for.”
“Oh, so you were trying to creep me out?”
“No!” He shakes his head, cheeks slightly flushing as he laughs.
You giggle too, unable to help yourself. Kaminari really is cute, a lot more so when he’s not recycling tired lines.
“You’re mean.” He smiles something small and pleased. “I like it.”
Suddenly the train car jolts, brakes squeaking and squealing as it skids to a stop. You rock forward with the force, and Kaminari knocks his shoulders into yours. When you look at his face, he’s got that mischevious glint back in his eyes, as he bites down on his lip. A second passes and then he touches his shoulders into yours again.
“Really sorry.” He smirks. “Bumpy ride, you know?”
You roll your eyes again, but you are actually feeling a bit charmed. He’s got a sneaky way of buttering people up, you realize- of somehow weaponizing his own embarrassment.
“But I actually do have to go.” He stands, and then he’s pressing his hands together and winking. “I’ll see you here same time tomorrow, right?”
“I don’t know, are you gonna yell at me again?”
“Absolutely! Gottta yell at all the pretty girls, you know?”
“Stop.” You laugh, blushing. You nod towards the doors. “I’ll be here, but go. Door’s gonna close, you dork.”
Kaminari nods and then he’s shoving his headphones back in, still crinkling that water between his fingers. There’s nothing quiet about him as he leaves and you come to think that maybe that’s how he really gets you- it’s not with lines or indirect kisses or grace, it’s with air that seems uncomfortably vacant when he leaves. It’s with the vaccuum he leaves behind.
You watch the doors close after him, but he’s stops on the platform, shooting you a thumbs up through the window. There’s a goofy grin plastered across his face, wide and sunny and brillant. It’s the kind of smile that leaves you wondering if Kaminari knows just how brightly he shines.
When the train kicks into motion again, you’re smiling too, rubbing your eyes as you blink away the sun spots he left behind.

you’re the one that i want (part 23)
word count: 7k
angst, fluff, smut
(part 22) (series masterlist)
“i’ll fight ‘em, i don’t care.”
“shut the fuck up, you won’t fight shit.”
“oh no? watch this.”
you bite back a smile hearing a groan leave hongjoong’s mouth, jongho’s fist connecting with his stomach before the two boys promptly start to beat each other up and bicker back and forth.
you hadn’t meant to let it slip that you had a...bumpy start to your relationship with the boys from school; but you’d gone in just a little bit of detail about your first day, the way you’d actually bumped into wooyoung earlier that morning before becoming well acquainted with crying in the bathroom after you had talked to them for all of five minutes.
but hearing how the three boys didn’t welcome you with open arms made them all the more wary of them, still giving seonghwa shit two months later after he confessed the (multiple) errors of his ways at school - including letting his friends treat you like that.
they never really knew if seonghwa was different around his other friends but quickly came to the decision that they didn’t care - they would call him out and harass the shit out of him until he stopped if he dared do it in their presence this week.
but something tells them that’s not the case anymore, watching as the dirty blonde walks into your aunt’s backyard heading straight for you.
they see a smile light up your face when his arms wrap around you from behind, his lips pressing down on your shoulder as he mumbles what they can only assume is his signature “hi, baby.”
the affection between you both was something that noticeably grew more and more these past few months, done in such a way that it doesn’t even creep them out that much. they can see it’s done from a place of just utter adoration, sweet and pure, solely for the fact that you’re finally with one another.
but they still have to give you guys a little shit despite how much they like seeing seonghwa happy and in touch with his emotions; so they let out mock annoyed groans and beg you guys to get a room, seonghwa rolling his eyes before looking over jongho cautiously.
“still planning on fighting them?”
“of course he is,” hongjoong drones sarcastically as the youngest boy nods his head eagerly, insisting that they deserve it and he’s more than capable, so who is he to not put some mean high school boys in their place? who is he to not defend your honor and-
“good. because they’ll be here in about two minutes.”
and it’s at that jongho’s eyes widen and lips jut out questioningly, carefully looking out the white gate of the backyard. you snap your head back and turn in seonghwa’s hold, eyes lighting up in excitement because you haven’t seen san in two whole days.
“really?” you squeal excitedly, seonghwa’s eyes narrowing before he tightens his arms around your waist.
“really,” he confirms lowly, fighting the smile trying to make it’s way on his face. “but you weren’t that excited to see me just five seconds ago.”
“i see you every day,” you point out, cocking your head to the side teasingly before rolling your tongue over your lips. “and we have....things to talk about.”
and it’s at that seonghwa’s eyebrow quirks up, about to ask what things those are when yunho’s voice rings through the backyard. you snap your head over to look at him and smile, holding up two fingers to the boy who immediately blushes and swats you away with his hand.
your boyfriend lets out a quiet groan and whines your name lowly, your eyes moving back to him and feigning a look of innocence.
“what?” you squeak, smiling up at him when he just continues to stare at you blankly, almost chastisingly. “we didn’t do anything.”
“i didn’t say you did,” he counters quietly, taking your jaw in his hand and squeezing your cheeks ever so slightly. “so that’s how i know you and san are plotting something.”
and you have to give him credit where it’s due - he might know you both just a little too well.
but how could you and san resist in playing matchmaker? especially after you off-handedly mentioned seonghwa’s friend yunho had been complaining to you about his lack of a love life.
“it’s so sad, y/n, like...i’m not looking for anything serious right away but i miss having someone. even just to talk to at the end of the day.”
because he hadn’t had someone like that since last winter, what was supposed to be a one-week stay at a ski lodge turning into a whole month due to severe weather conditions and multiple cancelled flights.
he told you over a bonfire one night about someone he’d met there, how they just clicked right away and he never had a connection with anyone like that before. it had felt as if they knew each other for years and not just four short weeks, becoming closer and closer every day while forming a bond that was like no other.
“we had only been friends and, i don’t know, maybe it was only me but it kind of felt like something more,” yunho said, a sad, distant look in his eye you’re not at all familiar with in the boy. “i even gave them my number but never heard from them again so i guess...it wasn’t like that at all.”
and while you didn’t divulge that story to san, you told him how sweet the blue-haired boy was. how any single person would be so lucky to have him and you can’t imagine anyone not falling in love with him immediately.
“maybe he’ll be desperate enough and pity mingi,” san said, the mentioned boy’s head snapping up upon hearing his name. “sad boy has been crying for someone to love him for weeks now and-”
“shut up, nooo!” you heard the tallest boy whine, letting out a snort and thinking, maybe, that wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world.
but when you mentioned it to yunho the next day, his cheeks turned pink and he waved you off, flustered and embarrassed at the idea of being set up with someone who’s name he didn’t even know.
“i wouldn’t say we’re plotting something, we’re just...we had an idea.
seonghwa bites the inside of his cheek to control the smile on his face, narrowing his eyes as he nods his head at you skeptically. “mhm,” he hums lowly, completely unconvinced in a way that makes you let out a sigh.
“you know what, how ‘bout you just mind your own business?” you squeak, poking at his chest playfully. “because i’m not gonna help you control everyone if you’re gonna be mean.”
"you have to help,” your big, strong, cool, boyfriend whines, his hands moving to your waist so he can hold you closer to him. “this is gonna be a fucking disaster, babe.”
“you’re so dramatic, no, it’s not,” you say, rolling your eyes as you allow seonghwa to pull you into him. “we’ll just have a little bit of a headache for the first few days.”
and that fact, because seonghwa already knows it’s a fact, causes him to let out a sigh, lifting your chin so he can take your lips in a kiss. you smile into it and lift up on your toes to deepen it, sweet and chaste and mouths only parting a little bit to keep it pg in front of the three boys.
but you think that they’re used to it already, the sweet pecks and constant affection (that’s still making your heart flutter so intensely) around them more often than not.
you never thought you’d be one to show affection around anyone, mostly because you never thought you’d have the chance to have a boyfriend nor a group of friends, but something about it is oddly...reassuring. like you’re worth being hugged and comforted not just behind closed doors or in the walls of your room.
“ohhh, they’re they fuckin’ go again,” jongho whines, pool noodle in hand that he promptly smacks seonghwa’s back with. “enough, break it up.”
seonghwa turns around and narrows his eyes at the boy, staring him down before snatching the yellow foam out of his hand and hitting him on top of the head. you let out a giggle watching the two boys fight playfully before sneaking over to yunho and hongjoong, rocking back and forth on your toes.
“y/n, stoppp,” yunho whines when he sees the look on your face, his cheeks already pink and burning. “you’re making me even more nervous.”
“there’s no reason to be,” you tell him softly, a pout on your lips as you look up at the sweet, blushing boy. “no one but san knows about so it’s completely in your hands, yunho. if you like him, great, if not, that’s good too. i just want you to be happy,” you say sweetly, remembering how gentle and kind and patient he was since the moment you first met.
but your kindness only proves to make him more flustered, poking your arm gently before pulling you into a half hug. “remember when you couldn’t even look me in the face and now you’re trying to pimp me out to some-”
“this shit be niiiice, y/n, you didn’t tell us you had a pool!”
you’d recognize that voice anywhere, head snapping over to see wooyoung and san standing just outside the white gate. a dimply, happy smile is on san’s face as he waves excitedly to you, a tiny gasp leaving your mouth before you rush over and usher them in the backyard.
“she did tell us, you fuckin’ idiot,” yeosang says from behind him, pushing wooyoung through the gate as he’s eager to get a look at the backyard. “but you didn’t say you were literally right on the beach?”
“what did you think beach house meant?” you ask the boy dryly, a snort leaving mingi as he waves to you like a child; the more you got to know the tall boy, the more you saw that he was actually incredibly shy.
you only saw him with his lifelong friends, people who’d he grown incredibly close and comfortable with over the years.
but the talk of him meeting new people this week had seemed...challenging for him. not because he didn’t want to or didn’t like the idea of them but because he just finds that he gets a little bit... awkward. confused as to what to talk about and overanalyzing anything he could possibly say to keep a conversation going.
but with you, it’s easy. with you, he’s able to smile softly and make his way over to tell you he wants to go in the pool even though it’s barely seventy degrees out.
and you don’t see it but seonghwa does, the way yunho’s head snaps up upon hearing mingi’s whiney voice. looking over the boy with a flicker of recognition before hurt and fondness surface, watching as he throws his head back in laughter and threatens to throw wooyoung in the pool.
it’s why the dirty blonde makes his way over to yunho and asks if everything’s good, shaking his dazed head before he looks away from the familiar, tall boy and nods unconvincingly.
“yeah,” he manages to get out, his heart pounding in his chest and head swarming with confusion and nervousness and maybe even a little embarrassment; but seonghwa’s far too used to lying and deflecting, raising an eyebrow at his usually honest friend.
but before he can ask if he’s sure, he sees jongho come out from god knows where and head straight toward wooyoung, mingi and yeosang.
“oh no,” seonghwa mutters but hongjoong only lets out a scoff and shakes his head, the three boys reluctantly making their way over to the group.
and they have to hold back their laughter when they see jongho, all smiles and polite handshakes, as he introduces himself to the three boys he swore he was going to fight three seconds ago.
“you’re his younger friend, right?” yeosang asks, remembering the name as it rings with the slightest bit of recognition in his head.
“yeah,” the blonde starts to say but then seonghwa’s arm is thrown over his shoulder and he smirks down at the boy, a look in his eyes that’s making him extremely uneasy.
“younger but pretty strong,” the dirty blonde says, a shit eating smirk on his face. “in fact, he wouldn’t shut the hell up before about fighting each and every one of-”
“is anyone thirsty? pardon y/n for being an awful host, i’ll go get some,” the boy smiles tightly, elbowing seonghwa in the rib and causing the boy to wince. “ice tea? lemonade? water?”
“you’re such a fuckin’ coward, it’s not even funny,” hongjoong whispers out of the corner of his mouth.
you giggle watching the exchange before making your way over to san, the two of you sharing soft smiles as excitement courses through you.
because this was such a foreign idea to you at one point in your life. having friends over to hang out with, having friends over in a warm, welcoming house where you could laugh and make memories and have fun.
you remember during the summer walking past groups of teens and thinking you just wanted one person to do that with. wanted one person to make connections and memories with, knowing that you didn’t really know how to have friendships or relationships but wanting so desperately to try.
and now you have eight, ten if include jojo and bo-ra who couldn’t come due to prior vacation plans but have continued to visit you and san at the cafe a few days a week.
you have a boyfriend who loves you and a best friend you connected with the second you met and other friends, some with more bumpier starts than others, who you can now hang out with and rely on 24/7.
you have a safe house where they’re more than welcomed to stay, if your loving boyfriend wasn’t overly concerned with your safety and genuinely fearful of them burning down your house.
“i’m so excited you guys are here finally,” you squeal quietly to san, his eyes shining and happy as he looks over the backyard of people; because similar to you, he didn’t know if he’d ever have this again. he didn’t know if his group of friends would ever be repaired again, fearing that it’d never go back to the way things used to be.
but with a little bit of apologies and forgiveness, things were able to be mended. it didn’t happen right away but their memories and mutual love for one another had eventually paid off and worked everything out.
“i know, me too,” he says, looking over the boys who’re already chatting and laughing with each other; or at least, most of them.
because two of them still haven’t uttered a word to another and it took only a few moments of you and san watching yunho and mingi to notice something was off with them. for you to furrow your eyebrows at san before going over to yunho and asking him quietly if he was okay.
and yunho could lie to seonghwa but he couldn’t lie to you, biting down on his lip before allowing the words to leave him.
“i know him.”
“who?” you ask quietly, looking over the boys and seeing mingi with his glossy eyes trained on the large, in ground pool.
“him. the tall one,” yunho said quietly, the feeling of disappointment and sadness he learned to bury deep down resurfacing. all because of the person who can’t even look at him right now, who kept him up at night for months, making him question himself and their relationship and an entire month of his life.
“he’s the boy from the ski lodge.”
by the second day of the boy’s arrival, you would’ve thought everyone had been best friends for years.
because if they weren’t teasing and yelling at one another playfully, they were throwing each other in the pool or pelting french fries at each other from across the table.
and it only got worse as the week went on.
“cut the shit,” seonghwa growled at them, losing count of just how many times he’s uttered that phrase within the past few days. but now, instead of three boys to defy him, there were seven and it was quickly testing his patience.
so much to the point that seonghwa grabbed you by the arm after watching wooyoung and jongho play monkey in the middle with you and a fry, leading you out the door of the diner quickly.
a tiny whine leaves your mouth as you remind him you hadn’t even gotten to eat your food yet; but it’s like the boy hadn’t even heard you, opening his car door before pushing you inside and giving you a warning look.
and it’s a look you’ve learned not to test, his dark frustrated eyes disconnecting from yours as he walked around the front of his car and plopped down in his seat.
the sound of the door slamming caused you to jump, looking over his tense body before deciding to crawl over and plop yourself down on his lap; your legs straddling him as your arms wrap around his broad shoulders gently.
“you’re being dramatic.”
“i’m not, babe,” he insists after he lets out a huff, his eyes shutting at the feel of your hands playing with the back of his hair. “they are so fucking exhausting.”
you let out a small giggle because while you can even agree with that, you’ve kind of grown to like the chaos.
it used to scare you at first, hearing them bicker back and forth as their voices grew louder and harsher; but now you can’t help but smile and giggle softly watching them, adding commentary every now and then that would either get you a smile back or a harsh poke in the arm.
“they’re your friends,” you reason softly, smiling when his eyes meet yours and you see the tight irritation in them.
“they’re annoying,” seonghwa growls lowly, your teeth biting down on your lip so you don’t let out a snort. you sigh as you cock your head to the side, running your hand through his hair and smiling when you hear him hum contently.
“i just want one day alone with you,” he says after a few moments, his voice low and soft and making your stomach flutter in such a familiar way. “i would’ve gladly spent this whole fucking week with just you.”
because he hates sharing you with them. he hates feeling like he has to fight for your attention when san and jongho and wooyoung and what feels like every person on this earth is trying to make you smile or laugh.
and he’s happy that this is the current dilemma he’s having, that you’re finally being treated right and the way you deserve to be after such a long time of not.
but it’s like when he can finally get you in his arms for one second, kiss the side of your neck and hear you giggle his name out, an obnoxious screaming boy is trying to get you to play chicken or take turns with a video game or learn a stupid dance.
and it’s not coming from a place of jealously but more so from a place of selfishness and frustration; because if he was able to have you at night, maybe this would be a little bit easier.
but no, he has to share his bed with one of them and be kicked around all night by another, then be woken up at 9 a.m. because “you’re the fucking host and you’re not serving us breakfast?”
“i know,” you tell him softly, smiling sweetly before you lean in and peck his cheek. “but it’s nice to have friends, seonghwa. that they’re here and we’re having fun together. i...i never really had that before.”
and it’s a sentiment he, truthfully, hadn’t even thought about, all the irritation and frustration leaving his body almost immediately at hearing those words leave your mouth; because it hadn’t even occurred to him what a big group of friends meant to you now, now that you were safe and happy and had a little circle of people that were yours.
“i’m sorry, baby, i didn’t even think that about,” he says honestly, his arms wrapping around your waist and rubbing at your sliver of exposed skin gently. “i just miss you. they keep hogging you.”
you feel your heart warm at his softly spoken words, resisting the urge to giggle and instead leaning down to press your lips against his. you’re not surprised when he responds immediately, tightening his hold around you and meeting your kiss with an eagerness he’s trying to control.
but once you tease his lips with your tongue, slipping it in with ease and catching him off guard, he’s quick to take control. tighten his hold and growl against your mouth that you better be careful because this is not the right time to test him.
“oh no?” you tease when you pull back slightly, eyes widening and brow raising as you resist the urge to smirk. “then when would be a good time? i think i’ll be able to squeeze you into my busy schedule.”
and even though he wants to smile at the newfound sass that’s coming out more and more every day, he’s quick to fist your hair and pull you toward his mouth again.
humble you in the form of lips and teeth and tongue assaulting your mouth, his deep voice and the slight sting on your scalp every time he tugs on your hair making a whine escape you just a little bit.
“should i fuck you in my car again? is that what you want?”
you feel your stomach swoop when he mutters those words in your ear, tone deep and husky and making you arch your back into him as you take your lip into your mouth.
“maybe,” you hum lowly, words bold and daring but the telltale sign of your flushed cheeks and wide eyes showing you still get as flustered as you would back then. “but what about you? do you want that?”
and then just to tease him a little more, you roll your hips over the hardness growing in his lap and smile when he takes a sharp inhale of air.
“don’t fucking play with me.”
a pout crosses your lips as you peer up at him with a mock innocence, his words reminding you so much of the first time you guys were...intimate. when he insisted you weren’t ready for what he wanted to give you but you knew you were; even just for a little bit.
and it’s the same way you now wish it was summer again so you could be wearing a skirt, the jeans covering your body making it impossible for him to slip his hand in your underwear and remind you of what happens when you do play with him.
“i’m not,” you whine softly, circling your arms around his shoulders again and running your fingers through his hair. “i’m just asking you a question.”
“bullshit,” he growls and you let out a giggle seeing the tense look on his face, your hands moving down to massage his shoulders.
he closes his eyes and takes a moment to enjoy your hands on him, your quiet hums and the feel of you under him, your hands working gently but firmly to relax him the best way you can in the parking lot of the diner.
“they’ll only be here for a few more days,” you hum lowly in his ear, your lips against his skin making him shudder more than he cares to admit. “and then we’ll have alll of sunday. just us,” you say sweetly, pulling back and trying to calm him with a soft smile.
because you know it’s only a matter of time before someone runs out and looks for you guys, bangs on the car window and tells seonghwa to stop being a bitch and keeping you all to himself.
“i think i’m gonna lose my fucking mind,” he grunts out lowly, looking back at the diner like it’s an awful prison and not somewhere fun with milkshakes and ice cream and the best french fries ever made.
“well, don’t,” you whine, lip jutting out ever so slightly in a way that makes him smirk. “because i need you, okay? you’re still my favorite.”
you feel your heart lift when a full, handsome smile stretches across his face, resisting the urge to roll your eyes because you can’t believe this is the boy who knocked into on the beach and acted so indifferent to you.
who looked at you in school and filled you with so much sadness and heart ache you didn’t know if you’d ever recover.
but you don’t know if you’ve ever felt happier, melting into him when he hugs you against his chest. cuddling into him for just a few minutes before you two have to brave the diner again, his steady heartbeat against your ear as his arms wrap around your waist tightly.
“i better be,” he mumbles against your head, his lips grazing your hair before the boy who constantly fights for that number one spot rushes out of the diner and pounds on the car window.
“sorry to interrupt,” you hear san say, though nothing about his voice sounds apologetic, “but jongho and yeosang are about to get us kicked out.”
“i just don’t understand how you thought a food fight was appropriate.”
“it wasn’t me you, fuck! i told you wooyoung started it.”
“no i didn’t, you little bitch! i told you to stop taking my fries and what do you do you do? you took my last god damn-”
“can we perhaps...go swimming now?”
everyone, minus you and san, look at yeosang and groan in frustration. because ever since you arrived at the beach a few hours ago, coolers packed with snacks and beers the boys from school may or may not have snuck in mingi’s car, he hadn’t stopped asking.
and now, with alcohol coursing through his veins, it seems like nothing is gonna stop him; nothing’s gonna stop him or you or san (also maybe a little tipsy but who’s counting) from jumping up and squealing at the idea in glee, despite the fact it’s fifty degrees and the ocean is probably freezing.
“let’s go, i’ve been waiting for you to ask again!”
but before you can even get two feet, san and yeosang already running out to the ocean despite wooyoung’s protests, seonghwa stands up and catches you around the waist.
“i don’t think so, baby.”
you let out a mixture of a whine and scoff, flailing against seonghwa in a move that’s happened the five other times you three have tried to make your getaway.
“seonghwa, stop!”
but he doesn’t care how much you whine or how much you protest, knowing that the odds of you getting sick from a ten-minute night swimming session are high - especially in this cold weather.
“you’ll get sick,” he tries to reason softly, his hand moving to tuck a piece of hair behind your ear. but your face only twists into one of anger and annoyance, poking him in the chest roughly despite the way he doesn’t even budge.
“no i won’t, i promiseee,” you say, smiling sweetly and the boys are all trying to control their laughter at the way you’re basically begging. “we’ll only be in for a little.”
his eyes narrow and he’s about to shake his head again, sit you down on his lap and run his hand through your hair in hopes that’ll relax your tipsy self to the point of falling asleep.
but yeosang and san starting to yell at him to let you go isn’t helping, nor is the way you’re now staring up at him with wide eyes and pushing yourself away from him.
“you...are not the boss of me, even though you’re my hot boyfriend,” you stammer at him, a smirk pulling at his lips because you have a drunken habit of confessing how attractive he is on this beach. “like, you can be the boss of me sometimes but that’s only when we’re doing, like,-”
“enough,” seonghwa growls lowly, the boys in the back falling into one another as their loud cackles finally echo through the air.
but your eyebrows only wiggle suggestively and he shakes his head, knowing you don’t realize how much you’re testing him right now but also finding it incredibly cute.
“i just...don’t know if i trust those two,” seonghwa says to you lowly, seeing yeosang and san stumble into one another as they proceed to throw wet sand at each other.
and before you can suggest that he comes in the water with you too, brave the cold like the big, strong man you tease him about being, two voices speak at the same time.
“i’ll go with her.”
and it’s as if that sobers you just a little bit, peeking around seonghwa’s body to see yunho and mingi looking at one each other warily, shyly, like the way they have ever since this week started.
ever since yunho confessed to you that mingi was the boy from the ski lodge, the boy he thought he had something special with but then never got a call from; he’d been avoiding the conversation as a whole all week, been avoiding the boy almost completely, really.
and it seemed to be a mutual thing, neither of the boys communicating or looking each other’s way.
you were surprised more people didn’t notice, just you, san, and seonghwa all sharing looks of suspicion and sadness any time they left the group to take a nap or make a phone call in another room.
but even with a few drinks in you, you can see the awkward, tenseness in their gaze, mingi stammering that he can go while yunho mumbles an apology. and now seonghwa really doesn’t have any say in the matter, the pleading look you throw his way making a sigh leave his mouth.
“both of you go,” seonghwa says, tone commanding and begging like he’s the one who made the decision in the first place. “someone to watch her, someone to watch the two idiots.”
you roll your eyes at the word watch but shrug yourself away from him anyway, sticking your tongue out when yunho stands up and takes your cold hand in his; mingi awkwardly trudges in front, yeosang and san grabbing onto the boy before they nearly knock him into the sand.
“you’re freezing, y/n,” yunho begins to say as you make your way down to the water. “i really don’t think this is a good-”
“why haven’t you guys talked?”
the blue-haired boy isn’t shocked by the question but it still makes him sigh, looking down at you and smiling softly when he sees your wide, curious gaze.
there’s still that hint of softness in them too, like you’re not gonna judge him or make him say anything he doesn’t feel comfortable saying right now.
“he hasn’t talked to me either...” yunho says quietly, voice dejected and disappointed and you’re just so not used this bubbly boy sounding sad. “so i just figured if we both act like we don’t remember, that’s better. it seems to be what he wants.”
“but-”
your small, whiney voice gets cut off when you hear san’s loud yelp as the freezing water touches his feet, yeosang running all the way out and ignoring the way his body turns numb.
“holyfuck, holyfuck, holyfuck! this is freezing!”
you and yunho watch mingi’s shoulders shake as he laughs at his friends, rolling his pants up before plopping down in the sand carelessly.
your lips purse together and you look over the boy for a few seconds before out into the ocean where san is flailing due to the cold water and yeosang is laughing, screaming at him to stop being a little bitch.
“I’m going with them,” you tell yunho, squeezing his hand in yours before backing up a few feet. “are you coming in?”
“absolutely not,” yunho laughs out because you couldn’t pay him enough money in the world to go in the water when it’s this cold. you roll your eyes with a soft smile as you shrug, looking between him and mingi who’s only a few feet in front of you now.
“you should talk to him,” you suggest quietly, eyes wide and pleading as you look at him sweetly. “i-i know you’re probably scared but sometimes people deserve a second chance.”
the words hit him even more because they’re coming from you, knowing everything that happened between you and seonghwa which only makes his heart hurt worse. because he knows the pain you were in, and bets it was probably more severe, but he still doesn’t know if he can do it.
it felt silly to still be so hung up on the situation a year later but it’d just been the first time he connected to any person on that kind of level. and then for it to just...die when he tried to keep it? hoped that things were gonna blossom and really felt as if it had the potential to be something really good?
he thinks if the memories are tainted any more, it’ll be hard to open up to the next person he has any sort of connection with. but your words are hitting him deeply, the way you look so hopeful and patient and can relate to your own advice more than anyone.
“you’re too good, little one,” he says with a shake of his head, a small giggle leaving your mouth as you shake your head.
“you’re better,” you quip with a small smile, peering behind his body to see seonghwa watching you closely. you resist the urge to roll your eyes and wave to him instead, looking back at yunho and telling him you’re gonna go now before seonghwa changes his mind and throws you over his shoulder.
he watches you run out to the water with a small smile, fully expecting the shrill scream that leaves you when the water hits your feet.
he stands in his spot as san and yeosang grab you by the hands and feet, pulling you further out and immediately dropping you into the cold water when they hear seonghwa’s loud “hey!” from the fire a few yards away.
he lets out a snort and sees someone else found the whole interaction funny as well, watching broad shoulders shake before his handprint continues to make indents in the sand.
and it’s with a deep breath and a silent prayer to whoever’s listening that he walks over hesitantly, mingi turning around at the sound of footsteps approaching.
he only offers a small smile over his shoulder before his gaze turns back to the ocean, yunho standing there awkwardly with his hands hanging at his sides.
“can i sit?” is what he eventually blurts out, not sure if five seconds or thirty seconds passed before he was able to utter the question.
sure,” mingi mumbles, biting the inside of his cheek when he feels the boy’s large presence next to him; he’s gotten taller, he thinks to himself. he was taller than him before but it seems even worse now.
or maybe he just doesn’t remember anything properly.
“i did,” yunho says quietly and mingi could’ve easily missed the words if the howling wind decided to blow at that given moment. but because it didn’t, he heard the words and his eyebrows pull together in confusion.
“what?”
“i did get taller,” yunho says, trying to keep the amusement out of his voice because he doesn’t think the boy meant to say that aloud.
the knowledge makes mingi’s cheek flush and his eyes to close, not liking how shy and flustered he’s already getting because of the boy next to him.
“i didn’t think i said that out loud,” he mumbles to himself, yunho’s short but deep chuckle making him lick over his lips nervously.
the both of them continue to watch you three flail around and laugh together, the gentle crashing of the waves and distant chatter from the bonfire surrounding them.
but it’s not like either of them can even hear that anyway, too distracted by their own frantic voices in their heads.
yunho wondering what he should say, ask him straight up why he didn’t call and if he made up everything in his head?
mingi asking if he even remembered him in the first place, if his awkwardness is just making him feel awkward? tell him he’s sorry if he misunderstood everything from the start.
it’s eventually yunho who finds it in him to speak, taking a deep breath before confessing that he wasn’t even sure if mingi recognized him. and it’s at that the brunet’s eyebrows pull together, looking at the boy in confusion because what? he thought it was fairly obvious he remembered him right away.
the second he heard his voice and saw his face, he felt his stomach drop and face turn pale. he thought he was about to throw up right in your backyard and promptly ruin the welcome party.
“of course i do,” he laughs out humorlessly. “how could i not?”
yunho doesn’t like how hopeful the words make him feel at first, a spark of anger bolting through his chest that is very unfamiliar and makes him let out a sarcastic tsk.
“what?” mingi asks, voice so low and deep he’s hoping he doesn’t catch the waver in it.
“i guess you wouldn’t forget something like that,” yunho says snidely.
the boy you toyed with for a month and filled with hope but then forgot. the boy you promised to call when your flight landed but then completed ignored and left worrying for days, even weeks after.
yunho’s tone makes mingi’s eyebrows pull together, looking to his side to see a tightly set jaw and eyes burning into the sand. and he wants to ask what the fuck he has to be angry about? like he was the one who wasn’t honest about what he wanted.
he could’ve just told him he didn’t wanna continue their....friendship in the first place. he didn’t have to give him a fake number.
“yeah, i wouldn’t,” mingi bites back, the tight hostility and edge in their voices quickly taking over the mood between them. “but i was also honest about everything so.”
he’s surprised that the words fly out of him as easy as they do but he can’t even say he regrets them, looking away from yunho to look back out at the night sky.
“honest, that’s funny,” yunho says, his hands folded into one another as he presses them together tightly. “your memory seems to be a little foggy. it felt like i was the only one who was honest.”
“okay, linda,” mingi bites back sarcastically, the name permanently etched into his mind because he’ll never forget the embarrassment of insisting to an middle-aged woman her number belonged to someone named yunho.
and fuck anyone named yunho in the first place because it almost looks like his face of pure and utter confusion is genuine.
“what?” yunho asks; who the hell is linda?
“who the hell is linda?” san’s loud, quivering voice asks, plopping down next to mingi and snuggling over into him for body warmth. “tha-that’s yunho,” the blonde stutters, you and yeosang coming in freezing and huddled together.
“i wondered the same thing,” mingi mumbles quietly, feeling petty and stupid but truly not caring; it was the first time he opened up to someone and he paid for it dearly.
“i don’t even know what you’re talking about,” yunho spits, getting increasingly annoyed at the boy’s lowly mumbled comments.
“yeah, i’m sure you don’t,” mingi bites back just as snippily, your eyebrows pulling together and lips falling into a pout; you’ve never heard either of these boys sound like that but especially yunho.
“what happened?” you ask both them both quietly, looking between mingi and yunho before your gaze stays on the latter. but all of this is quickly becoming too much for the blue-haired boy, knowing that you meant well with your advice but clearly seeing that this was a big waste of his time.
that he was stupid to remember that month every now and then in hopes that something would ever be rekindled.
it’s why he can only shrug his shoulders and stand up from his spot on the sand, dusting off his pants before shaking his head and mumbling “nothing.”
but he only takes about five steps before mingi pops his neck to the side and looks back at the retreating boy, wanting to get one more dig in before he permanently erases the winter ski trip from his mind.
“next time you don’t wanna be friends with someone, just tell them,” he snaps. “don’t give them a fake number like some little bitch.”
yunho’s head snaps back so fast you can’t believe it doesn’t fly off, his eyes flaring even in the dark as he walks back over and looms over the boy.
“what are you talking about? you’re the one who didn’t even bother to call me,” yunho bites backs. “i was stupid enough to be worried about you when i didn’t hear from your after your plane landed, asshole.”
“i texted you the second i landed and then called you when i got home,” mingi snaps, you, yeosang and san watching these two tall boys with deep voices growl back and forth at each other. “but the number you gave me belonged to a linda, she didn’t even know anyone named yunho.”
and it’s upon hearing that you resist the urge to squeal or laugh or smile, you’re not 100% sure what you wanna do, but it’s obvious everything had all just been one big misunderstanding.
an unfortunate misunderstanding that left the boys upset and embarrassed and angry, doubting themselves and the relationship as a whole for a year; but at least now you can see something other than those emotions in their eyes, a flicker of confusion and shock and astoundment that immediately makes you take yeosang and san by the hand and run up the sand to the roaring fire.
seonghwa takes one look at you and releases a long exhale, his arm outstretched for you to sit on his lap despite the way freezing ocean water is dripping off of you.
you smile at him and immediately scramble into his lap, humming softly at his warm body and the heat of the fire before he throws a blanket around his lap.
“did you have fun?” he grumbles in your ear, the shiver that runs through you probably both from him and your current, soaking state.
“yes,” you answer softly, the slightest hint of sarcasm in your voice that makes him shake his head against you. but then you’re curling yourself into his body and resting your head right on his chest, mumbling that he should’ve joined you guys too.
“nah,” he mumbles against your head, lips ghosting over your hair as he feels you frown against him. “we can’t both be sick this weekend.”
and you’re happy that in your tipsy, tired state, you didn’t make a fool out of yourself and say you wouldn’t be sick.
because the next morning, you, san and yeosang all woke with disgusting coughs and fevers that made everyone shake their heads and say they told you so; it cut the trip one day short but you and san couldn’t even be upset over it since you’d all but slept the day away.
you didn’t leave seonghwa’s chest until he forced you awake and gave you the same soup that you had the last time this happened, seonghwa’s words soft and gentle but eyes staring you down like he couldn’t believe you did this again, especially in the winter.
but you only groan and pushed the bowl away once you were done, whining at him until he laid back down and you promptly passed out on his chest again.
he shook his head and couldn’t even stop himself from smiling as you cuddled further into him in your sleep, quiet little hums leaving your mouth that he silenced by running his hands through your hair.
“h-hwa,” you mumbled sleepily, his head turning down to see your eyes barely open.
“go to sleep, baby, i’m here,” he mumbles against your head, arm tightening around your body that serves as the final thing to completely knock you out.
even though he’s so excited to tell you that, on monday morning, there’s gonna be one extra person in the car going to school with you guys because someone decided to stay an extra day at the house next door.

could you do d for the soulmate alphabet for fuyuhiko? no pressure!
heya, mod kyoko here :) i'm deeply sorry about how late this is! thank you for the request.
cw: fuyuhiko being his usual vulgar self
d...amage done to a person also translates into their soulmate’s body (cuts, bruises and all).
being a part of the Kuzuryu clan, you learned to fight
you'd been abandoned as a baby, just like peko, and the clan decided to take you both in
they trained you in martial arts as young as one year old, and you quickly became the ultimate karate master
though, before you got your title, the road was a long and bumpy one
before you got the hang of your talent, you often injured your hands
you didn't want to bother anyone, or be seen as weak in the eyes of your elders, so you would often tend to your injuries yourself
one day, fuyuhiko was passing by the dojo when he heard you cry out in pain
you had sprained your wrist yet again, and was rubbing it while groaning when he walked in
suddenly, his own wrist began throbbing in pain
"ah, what the hell?" he yelled, instinctively grabbing his wrist
you noticed his presence, and looked up
"you okay, kuzu?"
He sent you a glare
"i'm fine, dumbass, what happened to you?"
he strode over to you, examining your swollen, bruised wrist
he was too busy scolding you, telling you to be more careful, to notice that his own wrist started bruising like yours
"hey, fuyuhiko, what did you do??"
he looked up at you, scoffing
"i told you nothing, stop asking," he insisted, leading you to a bathroom for medical supplies
your gaze never left his wrist, but you decided not to push him
once in the bathroom, he fetched a bandage, wrapping it around your wrist tightly
you winced in pain, causing him to wince at the same time
you eyed him, eyebrows furrowing in suspicion
"stop staring at me," he commanded, "i'll be right back, gonna get some ice"
with that, he left you alone in the bathroom
while he was gone, you decided to not let him treat you until he told you what happened
once he returned, ice pack in hand, you folded your arms so he couldn't access your wrist
"what??" he asked, getting visibly frustrated
"were you planning on telling me how you got that bruise?" you asked, gesturing to his wrist
"bruise... what bruise? don't be a fuckin' dumbass..." his voice trailed off as he noticed the purple contusion on his wrist
"what the fuck? i- i don't know what happened..." he yelled, holding up his wrist to the light
you stayed silent, instead unwrapping the bandage on yours
"qait, why are you..." he didn't have time to protest as you held your wrist next to his, comparing the bruise
"i thought it was weird," you muttered, "our bruises look similar, maybe the same"
he scoffed, almost laughing at your expense
"it's just a coincidence, dumbass"
you raised your eyebrow at him questioningly
"hh yeah? how did it happen?"
he pursed his lips, regretting arguing with you
"i don't know that..."
"and when did it happen?"
he was silent for a moment
"when you injured yours..."
you cocked your head, staring off to the side
"maybe the adults know about this?" you suggested, standing up from your seat
not knowing what else to do, fuyuhiko followed you, not making an effort to conceal his muttering
the two of you found one of the older members of the clan, and he had you sit in the dojo with him
he explained what was going on, that he has seen this happen many times before, and what it means
as the situation came to light, you noticed fuyuhiko blushing redder by the minute
you would smirk at him if you hadn't been on fire yourself
finally, the clan member finished his explanation, and left to give you space
it was silent for a few minutes, until fuyuhiko cleared his throat
"hey, dumbass... this isn't going to make things awkward between us, is it?" he muttered, staring down at the mats below him
"i think it already has, kuzu," you replied, looking in the opposite direction
he frowned, finally turning his attention to you
"this is stupid. we're always going to be friends, right? no matter what?"
the reassurance was enough for you to nervously meet his gaze, offering a soft smile
"of course, kuzu"
he returned the smile, but it didn't last long
all of the sudden he couldn't meet your gaze anymore, and you noticed him fiddling with his hands
"what's wrong?" you asked him gently reaching out to touch his shoulder
"hey, uh... can i.... hug you?" he asked softly
a chuckle escaped your lips as you leaned forward, capturing him in a tight hug
"of course! any time"
the hug lasted a while, with him taking in your scent, and eventually reaching up to stroke your hair
of course, everyone in the clan was notified of the circumstances, and they immediately planned a celebration for the young master
the two of you attended hand in hand, though he hated being the center of attention, he was happy that you were his soulmate

It wasn’t often that Dani went to a party that wasn’t being hosted by a Miller brother. Yet, here she was at some random house with a lot of random people. Will said it would be fun, that she needed to relax. Benny said that she wouldn’t be alone because Frankie would be there. So how in the hell did she find herself standing around with none of the guys in sight?
Dani wandered aimlessly through the crowd of people, looking for someone she knew. She came across a door, and it seemed to be quiet on the other end. She quickly turned the knob to see that it was unlocked. Pushing the door open, she revealed her best friend, with a half naked brunette in his lap, snorting what looked like coke.
Her heart shattered into a million pieces. Dani couldn’t tell if it was because of the girl or the drug. “Tequila.” Frankie whimpered, but didn’t move a muscle. The girl in his lap twisted to see who opened the door.
“Either join in or get out.” The girl demanded, and Dani slammed the door shut. She knew she probably looked crazy; Tears running down her face, smearing her makeup, frantically looking for Will or Benny. She found the youngest Miller first, who immediately left the woman he was chatting up upon seeing Dani’s distressed state.
“Tequila, what happened?” He asked, wiping tears from her face. She tried to tell him, but it only came out in broken sobs. Benny was able to pick up “Frankie” and “cocaine”; After that, she was incoherent. Benny wrapped his arms around her, trying to give her some comfort. “Come on, let’s find Will and go.”
It took twenty minutes for Benny to track down Will, who was hooking up with the party host, Sara. Benny explained that Dani came up to him, sobbing and mentioned Frankie and coke. Will rushed to get dressed, apologizing for his hasty exit.
Dani was standing outside by Will’s jeep, eyes swollen and face red. Will rushed over, “Teq, I’m so sorry.” He comforted and placed a kiss to her head before ushering her into the car, just in time for Frankie to come running out the door. Benny took three large strides toward him before throwing a right hook that connected hard with his jaw.
“The fuck were you thinking, Fish? I thought you quit that shit!” Benny yelled at his friend who clutched his face where a red bruise was already starting to form, struggling to get up off the ground.
“Please, Benny.” Frankie started as he stood up, gesturing to the girl crying in the front seat “Let me talk to her.” He begged, trying to move toward the car. Will stepped in.
“You’ve done enough, Catfish. Leave her alone.” Will growled at the man before him. Frankie, exhaled a shaky breath and took a step back from his friends.
“I’m sorry.” He mumbled. “I’m so sorry.” He yelled a little louder, hoping Dani could hear him through the window. She turned her head just in time to see the same brunette that was seated on his lap, start dragging him back inside.
Dani didn’t leave her room for three days. She barely touched anything Will or Benny brought her to eat. She barely slept, the image of Frankie doing lines of the white substance haunted her dreams. She tried to focus on the crappy ‘B’ rated horror movie playing on Netflix.
A knock on the door drew her from the screen. “It’s open.” She said numbly. It was Will. He came in carrying a tray of food and a few water bottles. Dani noticed and gave him a quiet ‘thank you’, before turning her attention back to her laptop.
“Do you want to talk about it?” Will asked her just like he had every day before. Today she seemed ready.
“Why didn’t anyone tell me?” She whispered, still looking at the screen. Will took a seat next to her on the bed.
“It wasn’t our story to tell. As far as we knew, he cleaned up after being discharged. Tequila, I promise you, if any of us knew, we would have told you.” Will tried to explain to her, knowing that his words weren’t going to help much.
Tears slowly started to trickle down her cheeks. She felt so stupid, letting herself get so close to him. Will pulled the computer away from her lap, sitting it on her bedside table. She instantly curled into him as sobs wracked her body. Will felt so helpless. On one hand, he has his best friend who has a drug problem and on the other, his best friend who has a broken heart. He didn’t know where to begin to fix either. Will noticed that the sobs finally stopped and her breathing evened out. She was finally asleep. He could have wiggled out from her hold, but instead, he made himself comfortable and fell asleep, too.
“What the fuck are you doing here, Frankie?” Benny’s voice stirred Will awake. He shot up off the bed and ran to the living room. He found Benny holding Catfish back from entering the doorway.
“I need to talk to her, Benny. I have to- shit, I have to explain myself.” Frankie begged his friend.
Will could see his brother getting angrier by the second, so he intervened. “Go check on her, make sure she’s still sleeping. I’ll handle this.” Will prompted his brother. Benny relaxed, moving away from Frankie. Will slid into his spot, blocking him from coming inside.
“Will, please.” Frankie begged. “I just want to see her. I’m sorry for this. I never wanted to hurt her.” All Frankie wanted was to make sure she was okay. He was about to speak again when Dani’s voice broke through the silence. Frankie took in her state, hair in a bun, eyes rimmed red and puffy.
“It’s okay, Ironhead.” She murmured, arms wrapped around herself in mock comfort. Will turned himself to face her. He brought a hand up to caress her face, erasing stray tears. He gave her his best ‘are you sure?’ look. She nodded, “I’ll be okay, Will. I’ll yell if I need you.” She tried to give him a smile, but she was so damn tired.
Will looked back at Frankie, “I love you, man, but she better not need me." The blonde threatened him and Frankie knew he meant it. He shook his head in agreement; Frankie would gladly let Will hurt him. He just wanted to make this right. Will moved over, letting Frankie pass him into the living room. Frankie looked around. Out of all the times he sat in the room, he never imagined himself sitting here because of this.
Dani moved to take a seat across from him. She gave Will a look to let him know that she was okay, and he left the room. She focused her attention back to the man in front of her. He looked tired, like he hadn’t slept either. His eyes were bloodshot, and he had dark circles under them, which didn’t complement the five o’clock shadow that dusted his face. She couldn’t help but wonder if it was because of her or the drugs.
Frankie noticed Dani looking over his features, and he felt ashamed, like he didn’t deserve to have her look at him. He hung his head low, trying to avoid making eye contact with her. He knew he couldn’t hide his face forever, but for now, the floor was looking pretty good.
Dani shuffled in her seat, trying to get herself comfortable before diving into a conversation she really did not want to have. As she thought of what she was going to say, Frankie started to apologize.
“I’m so fucking sorry, Teq.” He raised his head, tears chasing each other down his face. “I know that sorry doesn’t mean much, but I am.” Frankie wiped his tears away as he finally made eye contact with her.
“Why, Frankie?” Her words were barely detectable, but Frankie heard them. Those two words put a vice grip around his heart and he felt like he couldn’t breathe. He didn’t know why. Why did he let himself fall off the wagon after so long? Why did he let Vanessa back into his life when he could have had Dani? He didn’t have any answers for her.
“Can I start from the beginning?” He asked her, hoping they could talk things out. Dani thought it over. Did she really want to hear this? The choice was obvious. she needed to know and gave Frankie a curt nod.
Frankie moved to the floor in front of her chair, sitting crossed legged, looking up at her. “It started after my first helo crash.” Frankie began.
“This is gonna be a bumpy ride boys,” Frankie yelled through the headset. He was maneuvering the helo through gunfire, trying to find a safe place to land.
“Fish, we got smoke back here!” Pope bellowed, hanging onto the doorway of the cockpit. Frankie looked back at his friend. How was he going to do this? He looked back down to the earth, and all he saw was desert sand. “Fish! We gotta land, man. Or this thing’s gonna blow!” Santiago reiterated.
Frankie found a spot far enough away from the flying bullets, that he could try to land as safely as possible. When he started to bring it down, alarms started blaring, lights flashed. “Fuck! Guys, buckle up. This isn’t going to be good.”
“That crash broke Benny’s arm. Since then, I was a nervous wreck behind the controls. I almost got everyone killed because I couldn’t land the damned helo. My mistake almost killed my friends.” Frankie paused to compose himself. “At first, I only did it to calm my nerves, then I just lost control of it, using whenever I could. I was discharged with my license suspended. I did a rehab program and luckily, I was able to get my license reinstated.”
Dani tried to comprehend what he was telling her. All of her medical training told her that he had a disease, an addiction. She wanted to reach out and console him, but he kept this from her. She had shared all of her secrets with him and he kept this huge one from her. “What about the girl?” She asked, knowing she had no right to be jealous. Frankie wasn’t hers.
“Vanessa was a fling, someone I would get high with. She was just there.” He gulped, “I wasn’t looking to get high. It was a moment of weakness. I hadn’t used it in almost thirteen months.” Since he met her. He was laying everything out for her and he was praying she would still accept him.
Dani sat there, staring at the man in front of her. He was unrecognizable. He looked sad, broken. Nowhere near the happy, flirty, person she met on Benny’s birthday. She wasn’t sure how to respond. She wanted to understand. She wanted to help him past this, but she didn’t know how. She didn’t know if she was strong enough.
“Please say something, hermosa. Lo siento mucho.” Frankie apologized again, reaching to grab her hands. She didn’t pull away like he thought she would. Instead, she moved to kneel on the ground with him.
She released his hands to pull him in for a hug. The gesture was enough to completely destroy Frankie’s resolve. Frankie sobbed into her. “Lo siento mucho. Lo haré mejor, lo prometo.” Dani held him for what felt like forever, stroking his hair.
“I want to help you, Frankie.” She whispered into his hair, still holding him close. “But I need you to want to help yourself.” Frankie’s head bobbed in agreement. He needed this.
The following weeks were hard on Frankie. Detoxing off the drug was a lot harder than he remembered, but Dani was there every step of the way. The exhaustion, shakes, and cravings were tolerable, but when the nightmares started, Frankie didn’t know if he would make it.
Dani let herself into Frankie’s apartment after her shift at the hospital. “Frankie?” She called out but did not get a reply. She moved further inside, making her way to Frankie’s room. She heard the shower running as she walked into his bedroom. “Frankie?” She called out again.
As she got closer to the bathroom, she could hear Frankie’s broken sobs over the shower. She rushed in to see him sitting in the corner of the tub, knees drawn to his chest. He raised his head when the door slammed into the wall.
“Dani?” He choked out, like he was surprised to see her. She rushed over to him. Feeling that the water was freezing, she quickly turned it off. She grabbed a towel, throwing it over him to give him some form of cover.
“Fuck, fish. What’re you doing? Trying to give yourself hypothermia?” Dani moved to grab more towels. She was able to get him to stand up and move into the bedroom. She searched his room for warm clothing. “Here.” She handed him the sweats and hoodie she found. “I’m gonna make you something to eat while you get dressed.” She exited the room and closed the door behind her. She felt her own tears threatening to fall down her face. It was hard to see her friend like this. She wiped away the drops that strayed down, trying to compose herself.
Frankie emerged from his room and followed the savory smell coming from the kitchen. “Hermosa.” His voice cracks a little, but she still hears him. Smiling, she turns to see him, arms wrapped around himself. “Shit, Teq.” He walks over to her, bringing a hand up to caress her face. “I didn’t mean to make you cry again.” He whispers, pulling her in for a hug.
“I’m okay, Fish.” She mumbles into his chest. “I made bacon and eggs.” She wasn’t going to say that was all she could make with the contents in his kitchen because the man was already down.
“Thank you, Dani. For everything. I think the worst has finally passed.” Frankie told her as they sat down at his tiny dining table. She handed him his plate before placing her own in front of her. The two ate in a comfortable silence.
“You wanna talk about it?” Dani asked as Frankie cleared the table. Frankie placed the dishes in the sink and turned back to where she sat at the table.
“I keep having the same nightmare. I’m in a helo and it's going down. It’s just like that first crash, except you’re there. And there’s nothing I can do to save you.” Frankie describes his dream, fighting back the emotion that is pouring through him.
“I’m here, Frankie. I’m here.” She tells him as she walks over. Taking his hand and placing it over her heart. “Feel that? I’m alive.” She moves it over his own, “You are, too. We are going to figure this out together.” The tension between them is palpable. Frankie looks down at Dani, her blue orbs staring back at him and all he can think about his pressing his lips to hers. Instead, he pulls away. She deserves more than a fuck up like me, he thought.
“Thank you. For dinner, fuck, for everything. You should go home and get some rest.” He practically pushed her out the door. “I’ll be okay.” He reassured her one last time before she said good-bye. He watched her walk to her car, climb inside, and drive away.
After the almost kiss, Dani did her best to give Frankie space. She knew he was going through a lot and he was probably having a lot of conflicted emotions. She stayed away from his apartment for about a week, checking in via text. He always responded immediately.
It was Saturday evening, and she had just finished her ER shift. She had sent a text to Frankie earlier in the day and still had not heard from him. Deciding that a trip to his apartment was warranted, Dani made her way over.
She knocked on the door three times before it opened. “Vanessa?” Dani choked out as the brunette stood there, wrapped in a towel. “Where’s Frankie?” She asked, her voice a little shaky.
“He’s busy, sweetie. Go home.” Vanessa snarked with a smirk on her face. Dani rolled her eyes, before storming past her toward Frankie’s room. She all but kicked the door open, sending the handle smashing into the wall.
“What the fuck?!” Frankie yelled, coming out of his bathroom, towel wrapped around his waist. The angry look on his face dropped as soon as he saw her. “Fuck.” He whispered, dropping his head. Dani knew immediately what was going on.
“Frankie, tell me this isn’t what it looks like.” She wished, pointing to the powdered substance on his dresser. He didn’t answer. “Frankie, please.” Her voice cracked, “Tell me you aren’t doing fucking coke again.” She pleaded. He raised his head to look at her, but did not answer.
She shook her head in disappointment before walking out of the room. “Dani!” Frankie called as he chased after her. “Dani, please, don’t go.” He begged her. She stopped in her tracks before she reached the door. Vanessa scoffed, muttering under her breath “to let her go”.
She slowly turned around. “Fuck you, Frankie Morales. Fuck you and fuck her.” She spat, pointing to Vanessa who was sitting on Frankie’s couch. Dani focused back on Frankie. “Thank you for wasting my time, my effort, my love. I told you when I started to help you that you had to want to get clean. You’ve made it very clear that you don’t. So, fuck you.” She blubbered, tears of regret and hurt welling in her eyes, spilling over her lashes.
She didn’t wait for a reply as she walked out of the door. It closed behind her with a loud thud. She got to her car and let out the sobs she was holding in. Dani had never felt anything like this. Even when she caught him at the party, it didn’t hurt this bad. She felt like some punched her in the stomach and could hear her heart pounding in her ears. What was she supposed to do now?
Dani pulled into her driveway to find Santiago sitting outside on the porch, like he was waiting on someone to come home. She put her car in park and he’s there to open her door. “¿Estás bien?” He asked as she stepped out.
She didn’t dare to look the brunette in the eyes, because she knew she'd break. “I’m fine.” She replied curtly, looking at the ground, walking toward the house. He followed quickly behind her. Once inside, she threw her bag onto the couch, going straight to the kitchen. She poured a shot of tequila, offering one for Santiago. He shakes his head ‘no’.
“Shit, Teq. What’s wrong?” He asks again, worry laced in his voice. He can tell she’s been crying. Her eyes are red, and her face is blotchy. She downs the alcohol and pours another.
“He’s doing coke again.” She rasped out, throwing back the second drink. Slamming the glass on the counter, she left Santiago and walked to her room.
He ran a hand down his face before tailing her. What the fuck have you done, Catfish. He thought. He found Dani laying face first into her pillow. “What do you mean he’s doing coke again?” He questions, sitting next to her legs.
She rolled over and sat up. “I mean, I hadn’t heard from him all day. I was worried. I got to his apartment and Vanessa was there.” she hiccuped, falling back on the pillow again. “There was coke on his dresser.” Dani sniffled, a sickening feeling growing in her stomach.
“I’m sorry, Dani.” He whispered, not really sure if she heard him. He is sorry. He’s sorry that Frankie is being an idiot. He’s sorry that she’s hurting. And he’s sorry that all he wants to do is make it better.
Dani fought to push her sadness down. She wiped her tears away and moved to sit up again, so that she’s looking at him. “I’m sorry, you looked like you had something you wanted to say.” She apologized and gave him her full attention.
Santiago nodded. “Yeah. I’m um, I’m going to South America. Colombia. I got a contract with the military.” He told her. “I’m supposed to leave in a month.” Her face dropped, and for a second she wonders how much heartbreak a person can take.
“South America? For how long?” She asked in disbelief. How could Santi be going to a different country? She just lost Frankie, she couldn’t lose him, too.
“I’m not sure.” He was being honest. He didn’t know when or if he would be back. It wasn’t going to be the safest contract. Dani sat there staring at him, speechless. “Teq?” He said, and she lifted her sad eyes to his. Almost as if he could read her mind, he promised, “I’ll come back.”
She shakes her head. “You don’t know that, Santi.” She mumbled, “What if you don’t come back?” The brunette shakes his head, telling her that she can’t think like that.
His cedar brown eyes met her blue ones. He reached out for her, pulling her into his embrace. He had an internal debate on whether or not he should say anything. It would be completely selfish of him, especially since he knew how Fish felt about her. That didn’t stop him from saying, "I have a contact down there who can get you certification to practice there. You could come with me, work in a hospital there."
Dani's body stiffened. Go to South America with Santi? She couldn't, could she? Santi could practically see the gears turning in her head. "It's not a marriage proposal, babe." He joked, trying to lighten the mood.
Dani let out a breathy laugh, "Yeah, like I would ever assume you are proposing marriage." Santi rolled his eyes, squeezing her tighter.
"I could settle down for the right woman." He rebutted, and they both burst into laughter. They knew Santi wasn’t the ‘settle down’ type. His arms relaxed around her and she wiggled her way out of his hold to sit back down on her bed.
"Seriously though, Tequila. If you want to come, the option is there." He offered her again. She could look into it. She could help so many less fortunate people, the whole reason why she wanted to become a doctor. After tonight, maybe it would be for the best.
"Okay." She says and his eyes go wide, like he didn't hear her correctly. "I want to go." She reiterates. Now he knows he wasn't hearing things. A huge smile crossed his face and he scooped her up into his arms again. Dani sighed in contentment. He smelled like mint and leather, even though he wasn’t wearing any, with a hint of whiskey.
She leaned her head back, so that she could look up at him. She was surprised to find him staring back at her. Her eyes subconsciously flickered to his lips as his tongue swiped out to dampen them. She didn't know if it was the buzz from the alcohol earlier, but she pushed forward to crash her lips into his.
Santi froze at the feeling of her lips on his. It was if he had fallen into one of his dreams, where the blonde woman had been running rampant. His hand found purchase at the back of her head, pulling her closer as their lips moved in tandem.
Dani's arms wrapped around his neck, her fingers playing in the curls growing at the base of his head. She felt his tongue dance along her bottom lip, as if to ask for permission to enter. She parted her lips, finally tasting him as their tongues met. He even tasted like mint and whiskey.
Santi nibbled her bottom lip, which drew a low moan from her. He knew right then that he wanted more sounds from her. He tightened the grip on the back of her head, pulling it to the side, so that he could have access to her neck. He broke the kiss unceremoniously, before attacking her neck, finding her sweet spot immediately.
"Santi," Dani whimpered with need. Santi groaned at the sound of his name coming off her lips. She sounded like an angel. He wanted to hear more.
He pulled back to look at her. Her eyes so dark with lust, Santi could barely see the baby blue. Her hair was a mess where he buried his fingers. She looked absolutely beautiful. "Fuck, Tequila." Santi said breathlessly. His hands caressed her face, one thumb swiping over her bottom lip. "Fuck, as much as I want to do this. I can't." He said as his hands dropped and he stepped back. "I'm sorry, Teq. You would hate me in the morning."
Dani, brain still fuzzy with need, nodded, "Yeah, yeah. You're right. It's best that we stop now." She hesitantly agreed, when really what she wanted was for him to make her forget. Make her forget Frankie. Make her forget work. Make her forget her own name.
Santi took a deep breath, running a hand across his face. His eyes met hers once more, trying to find any signs of regret. There were none. "We really shouldn't do this." He said one more time before connecting their lips again.

A/N: This is the second part of the @kpopscape ‘Walkin On Sunshine’ Summer event! Look out for the third and final part coming this month!
A boy in a truck, with a tendency of getting stuck
“Last one in is going down like a one egg pudding!” Jeongin shouts while bounding towards the moonlit lake, fully clothed. You’re not entirely sure what a one egg pudding is, or why it’s going down, but you are sure that you’re not gonna be one. You sprint after Jeongin, running towards the very edge of the lake before looking back and seeing the boy directly behind you. He wears a happy smile, white hair bouncing over the sun kissed skin of his forehead. When he reaches you he holds out one of his hands, which you grab onto before kicking off your shoes and running into the lake. He started doing that a week or so ago when you mentioned that the very edge was muddy and feeling it on your feet made you squirm. He had jokingly asked if you wanted him to hold your hand, but when you said yes he did it with no questions asked.
The two of you wade out to the center of the lake, as you have done each night for the past two weeks. Jeongin splashes at you when he looks back and sees your slightly scared expression.
“Stop!” You giggle, holding up one hand to shield your face, “I thought that I felt something brush my leg!” He rolls his eyes and swims over to you, wrapping a hand around your waist so as to support you as you splash back at him.
“It was probably the gator, just like it was last night.” When you’re this close you can see his eyes sparkle even with nothing to illuminate them. You can’t see the rest of his face, but you assume it’s smiling. He’s always smiling.
“You’re mean.” You laugh a little bit, heart fluttering as your shirt rides up beneath the water and his hand smooths across your exposed skin. The pads of his fingertips are rough. His hands are warm.
“Do you wanna get on my back?” He asks, voice quiet due to the close proximity of your faces. When he moves his head just ever so slightly you can feel the tips of your noses brushing. It causes goosebumps to rise on your skin.
“Yes.” The word is meek, but affirmative. Your eyes have adjusted enough to where you can see his smile grow. He exhales a laugh through his nose and the hot air fans across your cheek. His hand hooks beneath your thigh as he turns around so that you can secure your legs around his torso.
“Be sure to tuck those legs in tight or else the gators gonna come and eat ‘em.” He teases while pinching the squishy part of your calf that’s nestled against his stomach. You stay like that for a while, listening to the singing cicadas and the sloshing lake water as Jeongin carts you around. Neither of you say anything, but you’ve gotten to the point where you don't need to. You can tell that he’s happy by the rise and fall of his chest against your forearms, you can feel that he’s relaxed by the slope of his shoulders.
Later in the evening when you’ve returned to the grass and you’re both laying down and looking at the night sky, which is void of stars due to the full moon, Jeongin brings up an old conversation. It took place on your first day here, when he had just clambered through your bedroom window donning perfectly white hair and a heartwarming smile.
‘Something about how you used to get bored as a kid.’
‘I did get bored. It's lonely around here, but you seem like good company.’
‘Thank you! I think we’ll have fun, and uh… Not just because your grandmother said so.’
“Are you?” He questions, turning his head so that you can both see each other.
“Am I what?” You pretend to not notice his eyes trained on your lips, or the thumping of your heart that you can now feel in your ears.
“Having fun?” You think back to all of the nights spent at this very lake, all of the jokes exchanged, all of the water splashed into your face. You think of the way that Jeongin makes you laugh so hard that your ribs ache. You think of the smile that never leaves his face, and the way that over the past month that same smile had begun to spread over your own face.
“I don’t know if I’ve ever had fun before this Summer with you.”
The next morning at breakfast when your grandmother asks what the two of you will be doing that night your cheeks fill with heat. Something about the memory of his touch washing over you last night leaves your heart so full that it could burst. You’re expecting him to answer quickly as he always does. When a few seconds pass with no response you turn in your seat to see whether he’s choking on breakfast or if he’s simply neglected to speak. His eyes are mischievous once you meet them, his regular smile twisted into a more playful one and his cheeks pink.
“I’ll tell you later, m’am.” His eyes cast over to you quickly before returning to your grandmother, the grin on his face growing with each second, “(Y/n) can’t know.”
“Why can’t I know?” You question. He turns back to you with his head lowered and if you look closely enough you can see each sparkle in his eyes.
“Because. It’s a surprise.” Your grandmother giggles from across the table, sighing out something about ‘you kids’ before getting up and taking your emptied plates to sink. You and Jeongin help tidy the kitchen a bit before it’s time for you to walk him back to his truck. The sun is beating down hot today, just as it was yesterday and the day before. When he climbs into the white vehicle the first thing that he does is crank the air.
“So I’ll see you at eight thirty tonight?” You question, so used to the routine of seeing him that you barely even need to ask.
“Yep, eight thirty.” He runs a hand through his hair. The roots have grown out a lot in the past month, but you like it. It almost looks nicer to you than when it was all white.
“Are you sure you can’t tell me what we’re doing?” You ask. He smiles in a way that crinkles his eyes, causing your heart to stutter for a moment before he responds.
“Yep.” You pout a little bit in the way the two of you do when talking to each other.
“Are we going to the lake again and you’re just teasing me?” He laughs at your question, shaking his head a bit at the notion. The hair that he pulled back a moment ago now falls across his forehead.
“Nope.” His smile grows as the syllable leaves his mouth. Your heart clenches again, the way that it always does whenever he smiles.
He arrives perfectly on time that evening, clambering through your window just as you’re securing the final piece of your outfit. It was supposed to be colder than usual tonight so you decided to wear a flannel over one of your white tank tops. The flannel was actually Jeongins, he had loaned it to you after a dip in the lake and you had neglected to return it. He noticed it the moment that his feet swung over the windowsill, but since he didn’t say anything you figured that it was long forgotten.
You headed downstairs and into his car as per usual. Once in the car he drove for a little while, headed in the same direction as the lake. You were tempted to ask him once again if he had just been yanking your chain and you were going to the lake, but then he drove straight past your usual drop off point and into the expanse of field before you. He had looked at you apologetically and said that it would be a little bit bumpy, which it was. Until it stopped entirely.
“Well,” He starts while climbing back into the driver's seat. There’s a light sheen of sweat across his forehead, his white hair pushed backwards so as not to stick to it, “We are for sure stuck in the mud, and this field is usually riddled with rattlesnakes around this time of year. Your grandfather isn’t gonna be here for another two hours. It’s already nine, so we’ll be here for… A while. Sorry.”
“It’s fine!” And really it is fine, because you don't know how you could be mad at him when he’s looking at you with glimmering childlike eyes and an apologetic smile, “If you really want to make it up, just tell me where you were taking me.” He exhales quickly, so much so that it’s nearly a pant, before letting his head tilt back.
“There’s a field about five miles from the lake, I think it used to be used for hunting or something like that. I-I don’t know it’s empty now, but when you lay down you can see every star that there is. I just thought that you would like it.” It’s quiet for a moment, nothing but cicadas chirping and him breathing. You place your hand over his own before pulling him in your direction, “(Y/n,) what are you doing?”
“We’re going to see the stars.” He laughs a bit incredulously while you push the door open with one hand. You’ve grown to love that sound, so gentle and encompassing. Like a hand woven blanket wrapped around your shoulders.
“But my truck-”
“Has a bed, does it not?” He remembers you looking back at him with a wicked grin and squeezing his hand before hopping out of the car door. You climbed over the car's metal frame until you couldn’t hold onto his hand any longer, in which you shouted, “Hurry up, slow poke!” He remembers thinking that you were the strangest person he’d ever met. He also remembers thinking that you were his favorite. By the time he’s managed to maneuver to the very back of his truck you’re already laying on the cold metal bottom, one hand up to the stars while the other rests over your heart. You bring them both to lie across your stomach upon the sight of him.
“What’re you looking for?” He questions while moving to lie next to you. The truck groans beneath his weight and he lets out a sweet laugh. It’s genuine, floating through the air as though it were a summer breeze. You look to his lips for a lingering moment and watch as they relax into a gentler smile. Your eyes slowly start to wander over his face, taking in each of his features with care. His cheeks look so soft while still being defined. The tip of his nose is so petite and endearing. His hair falls into his eyes ever so slightly in a way that makes you want to push it back.
“Constellations.” You take a staggering inhale, heart hammering so fast that you’re sure he can feel it thudding. If he can, he doesn’t make a big deal about it. He does nothing other than meet your gaze with equal adoration, “I’ve never been any good at finding them.”
Jeongin thinks to himself for a moment. He thinks that you look lovely tonight, with the evening breeze tossling your free bits of hair and the white straps of your tank top sliding down your shoulders. He thinks that this field where he’s gotten you both stuck smells sweet like dandelion wine. He thinks that there’s something in the air tonight. He thinks that whatever it is is making him brave.
“May I kiss you?” You look taken aback at first, eyebrows softening into a question as you lean ever so slightly closer. Your hands readjust to cradle his sharp jaw as your noses brush. He locks his dark brown eyes with your own before asking again, “May I?”
You answer him this time, only it’s not with words. It’s with your lips moving gently against his own. He tastes like summer air, his skin traipsing your own feels like sunshine. When he slides his palm against the exposed bit of your waist you can feel the roughness of his hands. Calluses surround the delicate bones there, and in moments they catch onto the soft skin at your stomach. It’s a new sensation to you. Kissing someone like this is a new sensation to you. Loving someone as fiercely as you love him is a new sensation to you.
But then we woke up to find that Summer had gone
You don’t remember when your lips parted, or when your grandfather came to rescue the two of you. All that you can remember is waking up on top of your white comforter with your window open, as if someone slithered out of it in the middle of the night. When you go to close it you look down in search of a muddied up truck and a white head of hair. Surely enough you find him as easily as every morning, tending to his tomato plants and smiling to himself. You wonder what he’s thinking about, you hope that it’s you.
When you leave the window and return to your bed you see that your phone is lit up with a message from your mother. The two of you have barely talked since you arrived here, though you’re not sure why. Life has probably been busy for her since you left, and you’ve been enjoying yourself so much that you nearly forgot your home even existed. The text banner covering your home screen, which is a picture of you and Jeongin enjoying a picnic in your grandfathers fields, reads ‘hey sweetie! could you please give me a call soon? love and miss you, xoxo mom.’
It rings three times before she answers. You can hear bustling from her side of the call, probably from her getting off of the city's public transport and into work. If she hears any background from you it’s probably just chirping birds or Jeongins whistling that started up a minute ago.
“Hi mommy!” You say into your phone. With how relaxing life was here at the farm you hadn’t thought much about home, but now that you can hear the city you realize that you do actually miss it. Just little things, like the bakery across the street from your townhouse and seeing buskers at every street corner when you went out.
“Hi love! I’m on the way into work right now but I just wanted to check up with you, even if it’s quick.” You chew on your lower lip and nod before remembering that there’s no way that she can see you nodding.
“Mhm, sounds nice.” You wipe your palms on your denim shorts, which are still on from last night, while racking your brain for what on earth you’re going to say to her.
“Tell me everything!” Great. That really helps you to narrow things down.
“Well, everything is great I guess! Grandma makes breakfast every morning and Grandpa comes in at around lunch time. We spend lots of time together, around the house and going out sometimes. I like to help Grandma cook. A-and I met the neighbor, he’s… nice. Really really nice.” At this moment you’re unbelievably grateful for the phone between you and her so that she can’t see your sheepish smile. You’re not sure how she would react to the knowledge that you’re head over heelsfor the farmer next door.
“That sounds like a lot of fun!” The white noise in her background quickly dissipates so you assume that she’s entered her work building. Which means this call will be ending soon and your heart will forget the city and return to the farm, “I hope you aren’t having too much fun to come home?”
“Of course not!” Even as you say it your heart squeezes. You like your home a lot. It’s fun, even with barely any friends. Even when your parents are in and out of the house all of the time. Even when you’re mostly alone. Alone is fine when you’re there, because alone is what you’re used to.
But when you came here there was Jeongin, and suddenly you weren’t alone anymore. Suddenly you had someone to tell about the fat squirrel that you saw on your windowsill. Someone to make inside jokes with. Someone who made you laugh and smile in a way that you haven’t in years. Someone who made you feel seen in a way that was addicting.
“That’s good because we got an email from your school district that you’ll be starting back two weeks earlier than anticipated, so we’ll have to come get you earlier. In about two weeks actually. Is that okay?” As soon as the question registers in your ears it feels like you’ve eaten an entire bushel of cotton. Your mouth is so dry, your tongue so heavy, lips hanging open as you think of anything to say. ‘Is that okay?’ your mother had asked, as if your answer would change anything. As if saying no would earn you more time.
You’re quiet for a moment, trying so hard to not be mad with your mother or your school or yourself. You knew all along that this happiness would end, the fact that it’s coming quicker isn’t anyone's fault.
“Yea, that’s fine.” You answer, feeling a bit guilty for keeping your mother longer while she’s trying to get into work.
“Okay sweetie, I just wanted to let you know. I need to go now but I’ll see you really soon! Love you!”
“Love you too.” You’ve barely finished saying the words before your call ends. Your heart pangs, longing for comfort so badly that it hurts. Longing for Jeongin so badly. Tears well up in your eyes and you think that they might fall, until you hear your grandmother shout your name from down the stairs. You rush down them just as you do every morning. When you’ve reached the bottom you see Jeongin and your Grandmother waiting at the table, a smile on both of their faces. You take your seat beside Jeongin and intertwine your hands then squeeze tightly.
He looks at you and smiles again before the three of you bow your heads in prayer. Your intentions were to focus on your grandmother's words, but as Jeongin begins to rub circles on the back of your hand with his thumb your mind begins to wander. You think of how much you’ve enjoyed your time together, and then of how you’re already acting like it’s over, and then again of how badly you don’t want to tell him that you’re leaving. Once your Grandmother is finished and everyone is raising their heads and starting to eat, you decide that these next two weeks won’t be one drawn out goodbye. You’ll enjoy the little bit of time that you have instead of spending it all wishing that there was more.
The two of you go to the lake each night just like always. Some nights you barrel straight into the water, both of you giggling and clinging to each other for no reason at all. Some nights you forgo the dip in the water and instead lay down on the grass and look up at the stars. He talks to you a lot on those nights, which you really enjoy. On most nights, regardless of how you’ve spent your time before then, the two of you end up rolling around in the grass with your limbs tangled and lips locked. On the day that he and your grandfather brought in strawberries from the fields he remarked that your lips tasted like the fruit. It made your heart flutter. A lot of the things that he does makes your heart flutter.
There was one night when he came into your room after dropping you off. The two of you crawled into your bed, bones tired and aching from the long day. You laid your head on his chest so that his heartbeat was beneath your ear. You matched your breathing to the steady thumping there. He brought his hand to your back and began to rub soothing circles against your shirt. He pressed a kiss to your temple before he fell asleep. You remember thinking that you only had half a week left with him and that it wasn’t enough. You don’t know if any amount of time with him would be enough.

2nd 'Date'
"Where are you going?" Zoey asked curiously, eyeing me up and down as I approached the living room.
"Uh, the library, why?" I said, fidgeting uncomfortably.
I definitely was not going to the library but she didn't need to know that.
"The library, huh, babe?" she said skeptically and stood up from the sofa, walking towards me. "Right, to the library... wearing your push-up bra and that sexy perfume of yours."
"Um, yeah?"
"You're definitely not sneaking off to meet a certain someone, hm?" she hummed.
"I have no idea what you're talking about," I played dumb, pretending to busy myself by checking my bag. "I'm just going to... read..."
My roommate started circling me, gazing at my outfit that was the farthest thing from anything anyone would wear to stare at words on some pages.
Why did I say the library? I groaned and cussed inwardly at myself.
"So you're not gonna meet this special someone who so happens to be the queen of social media and is ranked top three in Belvoire and is one of the hottest persons here and also has the hots for you and grew on you only after the first date and made out with you outside our suite, which, I heard everything, by the way, and made you day dream about her for the past few weeks and-"
"I did not daydream about her!" I said defensively then immediately, my eyes widened.
"Oh? So you do know who I'm talking about."
I stayed silent, contemplating my next words as she stared at me.
"I'm talking about one Veronica Lombardi."
"I know who you're talking about," I snapped.
Zoey giggled and gave me a pat on the cheek. "Aww, look at you, scoring a second date with Vivi."
"It's not a date! We're just hanging out."
"Ah, so you are going out with her!"
I bit my lip and sighed. "So what if I am?"
"Eek! I'm so happy for my bestie!"
She crushed me in a hug and which took me aback and left me gasping for air.
"Thanks... Zo...!" I struggled to get out.
"Okay, okay," she pulled back and smooth out my clothes, pushing me towards the door. "Go get your girl!"
"She's not my-"
"Yeah, yeah, we've been through this before, now go!"
I smiled, shaking my head at Zoey before stepping out.
"Oh, and Bea?"
"Yeah?" I turned to look at her.
"If you're gonna shove your tongue down her throat against the door, try not to be so loud this time, okay?"
I grabbed a pen from the side table by the door and chucked it at her. "Zo!"
She clutched her stomach laughing as the pen bounced off her shoulder harmlessly.
"Bye, babe! Have fun," she blew me a kiss as I finally walked out.

5th Date
"Oh! Veronica!"
"I love it when you moan my name," she groaned against my neck where she was left aggressive nips and kisses, no doubt leaving her mark on me. I felt her smirk against my skin. "You sound so hot."
We found ourselves in her car after our date at the park. And yeah, yeah, I admit, it was a date. What was meant to be a sweet, innocent kiss turned into a heated make out session with me on her lap and her hands on my ass, guiding me to move against her.
I ground myself harder into her, her words making me whimper and encouraging me even further. Her lips travelled further down to the exposed skin of my chest that was left uncovered by my buttoned shirt, leaving kisses.
"Mm, V! I need to feel your lips on mine."
My hands that were wrapped around her neck brought her face up to mine and I smashed my lips against hers in a fiery passion. She moaned against my lips and I felt a shot of heat rush through my body at the gorgeous sound, making me groan in return.
I felt a hand slip down to my thigh, giving it a squeeze while the other moved around my waist and pulled me closer into her. She bit my lower lip, making me shiver in her arms.
"Oh, you like that, huh, beautiful?" she teased with a smile.
The hand that was on my thigh quickly moved around to give me a sharp slap on the backside. I collapsed onto her, gasping as I felt myself getting soaked, still grinding against her.
"You liked that too, hm?" she said cockily. "Such a naughty girl."
"God, you're so annoying," I grumbled between breaths and straightened up. "You talk to much!"
I forced her head into my cleavage where she hummed and immediately began nipping at the skin that wasn't covered by my bra. "Thank fuck I found a way to shut you up."
I felt her chuckle against my chest as her hand on my thigh crept up under my skirt, massaging as she went. It approached dangerously close to where I wanted her the most and I was sure she could feel the heat radiating from between my legs. I squeezed them together, wanting to some sort of pressure against my center.
"Please, V," I whined. "I need you to touch me. I need to feel you."
She lifted her face from my breast. "Touch you? Where?" she responded playfully, smiling. Her hand grabbed onto my thigh. "Here?" Then moved up to cup my chest. "Or here?" And then further up to my next to clutch at my throat. "Or did you mean here?"
"Fuck you," I cussed at her but with a grin, grasping her hand and brought it down between my thighs, gasping when her hand made contact with my damp panties under my skirt. "Here."
She kissed along my jaw and made her way up to my ear where she bit my earlobe and whispered huskily into my ear, "You're so wet for me, beautiful."
I let out a loud moan when I felt her hand slip into my underwear, working her hand back and forth. "I've wanted this since we first hung out together."
"Not since you first saw me?" Veronica spoke teasingly into my ear. Her fingers moved faster and I threw my head back with my eyes closed, panting hard.
"No comment," I managed to get out even though my thoughts were clouded in desire and pleasure wrecked my body.
"Looks like you're gonna have to wait a little longer," she smirked and took her hand away. I whimpered from the lost of contact and glared daggers at her.
"What?!"
"What?" she asked back laughing, casually taking her fingers in her mouth.
"You're such a jerk!" I slapped her shoulders in disbelief. "Why can't you just finish me off?"
"Where's the fun in that?"
"God, you're insufferable!" I huffed and got off of her, plopping myself back onto the passenger's seat.
"Aww, you're adorable when you're mad," she cooed and pinched my cheek. "I promise to make it up to you."
I swatted her hand away but felt myself start smiling. "You better watch out, Lombardi. Next time is gonna be hell for you."
She looked at me in the eyes and the intensity in them did nothing to calm my libido.
"Why are you threatening me with a good time, darling?"
I rolled my eyes at her even though I could feel the heat creep up to my cheeks. "I'm gonna tease you till you're begging me to stop."
"And what if I do the same?" She moved in closer to me.
"Then I'd say," I whispered, our lips skimming each other's, not quite touching. "Game on."

8th DATE
"I still can't believe you brought me to an arcade! I haven't been to one since I was a kid."
"You and me both," Veronica laughed as she grabbed my hand, making my heart leap. "I haven't been here in years!"
We played a bunch of games, trying to outdo the other by seeing how many tickets we could get from the same machine. I clutched the heap we won so far in one arm as I giggled along with her, letting her lead me to the next arcade machine. "I definitely won that last one."
"No way! I swear you were cheating."
"How would I cheat at skeeball?" I laughed.
"Maybe you leaned in closer when I wasn't looking!"
"That wouldn't help at all. Plus, I saw you staring at me the entire time." I looked at her pointedly with a brow raised.
"You have no proof."
We laughed and I moved my arm to wrap around her bicep. "What do you think we can get with all these tickets?"
"Plenty of stuff, but we aren't done yet," she glanced back at me with that familiar mischievous glint in her eyes.
"V... What else do you have planned?" I asked cautiously.
"You'll see."
"Are you gonna get us into trouble?"
She gave me a lazy grin. "Maybe."
She brought me to a machine at the corner of the arcade. It was decorated with rockets and stars and anything else to do with space. There was barely anyone around since it was a weekday but this side of the place was completely deserted.
"No one comes to this part 'cuz it's supposedly the hardest games to win tickets," she laughed, shaking her head. "I honestly can't believe it's still here after all this time."
"What do you mean?"
"I'll explain later, right now, I'm gonna tell you what you have to do."
She lead me a few paces away from the machine. "Okay, so I'm gonna do a little tinkering and I'm gonna walk away. After a while, it's just gonna start spurting out a bunch of tickets, so you just gotta take 'em and leave."
"Wait, what-"
But she already started walking towards the machine. She shot me a wink over her shoulder and placed a finger over her lips.
She nonchalantly looked at the machine, inspecting it from different angles. She bent down and reached behind it then under, fumbling around until she finally stood up. She gave it a hard jerk and the machine gave out a loud whirr.
"Hey, you! Stop!"
We both whirled around to see a worker pointing at Veronica and rushing towards her.
She ran past me, smiling. "Well, that looks like my cue to leave!"
"Oi! Get back here!" the worker shouted and started racing after her around the arcade while she laughed joyfully.
I had to stifle my giggles behind a fist as I watched the scene unfold.
God, this was amusing.
Veronica sprinted out of the building and apparently the worker had enough of chasing her. He returned to the machine and gave it a brief check before walking away.
Soon enough, it started shooting out a long stream of tickets that seemed never-ending. I quickly started gathering them in my arms that were already full of the tickets we won.
'V!' I sent her a quick text. 'Get your ass back here!'
She sent me the laughing emoji and I rolled my eyes at the screen but I couldn't help but let out a small smile.
'Alright, alright, I'm gonna try and sneak back in.'
A few minutes later, Veronica was back by my side and helping me stuff all the tickets into a bag which I had no idea where it came from.
"Where did you even get this?"
"I came prepared," was all she said.
I just shook my head at her as the machine continued to spit out the tickets.
After what seemed like forever, it finally stopped and we walked away, giggling and pretending like nothing happened.
"Where did you learn how to do that?
"My brother and I used to do this when we were younger," she explain and reached to hold my free hand. My stomach filed with butterflies as she intertwined our fingers together and I smiled. "We used to come to this very arcade. He taught me how to rig the machine and soon enough, we started doing this every other week. It was our version of bonding time." Veronica smiled at the memory and looked at me.
"I didn't know I've been going out with a felon," I teased.
"Nah, think of it like a Robin Hood situation."
"You gave the tickets to other kids?"
"When we were feeling generous."
"And how often was that?"
"I'm not at liberty to say."
I laughed at her, giving her an amused look as we made our way to the redemption prize centre and looked at the wide range of selection for us to choose from.
"What would you like?" V turned to me and asked.
"Hmm, why don't you pick out something for me?"
She snaked an arm around my waist and bring me into her, making me lose my train of thought for a moment. "You sure about that?" She kissed my cheek.
"Mm, I'm regretting it now."
"Too late," she spoke. She spun me around and instructed me to close my eyes and ears.
"But why?"
"'Cuz I want to surprise you."
I groaned but complied. "This is dumb," I muttered.
"You're just no fun."
"What's that?" I shouted, pretending I didn't hear her. "Did you say something? Sorry, my ears are covered."
She laughed and stepped in front of me, holding the prize behind her back.
"What is it?"
She pulled it out and held it up to my face, grinning proudly at me.
"A board game?"
"For our next date," she explained.
My heart burst with joy at her words. While I was sure it was already a given that we'd have more dates in the future, it was so sweet to see her already thinking about our next one already.
"You're just begging to get your ass kicked again, huh? Today wasn't enough?"
She waved a hand at me. "Pft, as if. I let you win today. Next time, no mercy."
"Is that so?" I moved in closer to her.
"Mhm," she hummed. "Why don't we make things more interesting."
"I'm listening," I whispered and took her hips in my hands, bringing her closer into me.
"The winner has to punish the loser, however they see fit," she smirked.
"I like that idea. You better get ready to lose, Lombardi."
Her face moved closer to mine. "In your dreams, Hughes."
Right before our lips met, we heard a shout that made us jump back.
"You!" It was the worker from earlier.
"Time to get out of here," V tapped me on the shoulder and held onto my wrist.
We both ran out of the arcade, hand-in-hand, giggling as the man shouted after us. I looked at Veronica and saw a child-like gleam in her eyes which was absolutely adorable. It was obviously she used to get up to trouble when she was a kid. Thrill ran through my body as we ran along the sidewalk under the night sky and I could feel the adrenaline pumping in me.
Eventually, we stopped running and looked back. We stared at each other, breathing hard and then doubled over laughing.
I glanced over at her to find her smiling back at me with that heart-stopping smile of hers.
And in that moment I realised, I really liked Veronica Lombardi.

12th DATE!
"Come here."
I grabbed the collar of her shirt and tugged her into me then pushing her up against the wall.
"Yes ma'am," she teased and pressed our lips together. One of my hands tangled in her hair while the other fumbled around, searching for the door knob of my dorm.
"Zoey isn't in?" she asked against my lips.
"Don't know, don't care."
I pushed myself further into her and ran my hand up under her shirt and over her chest, making her groan.
"Why didn't we go to my room then?"
"Mine's closer," I whispered hurriedly as the door clicked open. "And I need you now."
I pushed Veronica past the door, never breaking off the kiss.
"Hey, ba- Oh!" Zoey stopped herself in surprise.
I walked Veronica back to the direction of my room, hands never leaving each other's bodies and lips never parting.
"I'm guessing you guys had a good date, then," Zoey added.
We crashed into the kitchen counter on the way to my room. Veronica's hand were all over me as she kissed her way down my neck.
"Mm!"
"Good to know, babe," Zoey replied.
I ignored her and finally pushed V towards my room, finally making our way past the door.
"Have fun you two," my roommate said jokingly as I shut the door behind us and shoved Veronica on the bed, straddling her.
We sure would.
~*~*~
"There she is!" Zoey cheered as I walked into our suite after class the next day.
"Uh, hey?"
"The sex was that good, huh?"
"Zo!"
"What?" she asked, laughing. "You're the one that barged in here groping and sucking the soul out of your girl as if I wasn't sitting on the couch or anything."
"I'm sorry!"
I was going to continue but she waved me off.
"I don't need to hear some lame excuse about how horny you were, I heard it all. Till an ungodly hour in the morning too like damn, you both really went at it, huh?"
"Zoey, please!" I groaned and hid my face behind my hands, heat making its way to my cheeks.
I walked towards the fridge and Zoey followed me.
"You're even walking a little funny," she giggled.
"Stoppppp!" I playfully shoved her even though I knew it was true 'cuz I still felt a little sore.
"Aw, no need to be shy! You definitely weren't last night," she smirked at me cheekily. "'Oh, V! Yes! Don't stop, please, god!'"
"That's it!" I walked off towards the direction of my bedroom. "Conversation is over."
"And then she went, 'Mmm! Bea, right there! Fuck!'" Zoey mimicked teasingly.
"Bye, Zo!" I said as I shut my room with her laughing her ass off.
~*~*~
Nth DATE!!!
I woke up to find myself wrapped up in a pair of strong arms. The familiar warmth and comfort of the embrace made me smile.
I felt the arms hug me tighter and a soft kiss was placed on my neck. I sighed in contentment and melted further into her clutch.
"G'morning, beautiful," I heard Veronica's sleepy voice whisper into my ear and my heart swelled.
"Morning, V," I yawned and turned in her arms to face her. She looked at me and smiled.
"What?" I giggled.
"Nothing, you just look really cute."
I felt my cheeks heat up. "God, V, it's too early in the morning for all your cheesiness."
"Cheesiness?" she laughed. "I'm not cheesy."
"You're like the cheesiet person I know."
"Well, even if I were, you're in my bed so it worked, didn't it?" She gave me a crooked grin.
My face was burning at this point. "You're unbelievable," I groaned but the smile on my face gave away my true emotion.
She smirked. "I know, you told me last night, remember?"
Flashbacks to the night before played in my mind and I felt my entire body get hot.
"Veronica!" I grabbed the pillow beside me and gave her a whack on the head with it as she laughed. I looked at the time on my phone and sighed. "I gotta go."
"Aw, c'mon," she said as I moved to sit up and stretched. I glanced back to find her eyes running up me down my bare back. "Can't I hold you a little longer?"
She crawled towards me and wrapped her arms around me from the back, resting her chin on my shoulder. I felt her whole body pressed up against back back as she held me tight.
"You know I wouldn't leave if I had the choice," I moved my head back to kiss her cheek.
"You going soft on me, Hughes?" she teased as I rolled my eyes.
"I could say the same about you, Lombardi."
Our lips met in a soft, sweet kiss but not longer after, I pulled back which made her groan.
"I know, I know," I said as I stood up. "But I have class soon."
Before I could take a step, Veronica pounced on me and wrapped me in a bone-crushing hug.
"Ahh! V!"
"You can't escape now!" she giggled and attacked me with kisses.
"V! Stop!" I laughed along with her.
"No!"
"Please!" I wheezed out. "I'll make it up to you later, I promise!"
"Promise?"
"Yes!"
"Fine," she said sadly as she reluctantly let go off me and as much as I was protesting, I was already regretting it and thinking twice about going to class.
"I'll see you later, okay?" I told her as I reached for my clothes, putting on my bra and underwear before reaching for my pants while she did the same.
"Mhm," she hummed.
"V? Where's my shirt?" I asked, looking around.
"I don't know...," she spoke in a low, mischievous tone that caused me to whip my head to look at her.
There she was, one hand on her hip and holding my shirt in the other. She looked at me with a cheeky glint in her eyes and a small smirk on her lips. "Wherever could it have gone?"
"V, give it back," I stepped in her direction and reached for it but she held it out of my reach.
"Give what back? I don't know what you're about." She jogged past me to the other side of her room and grinned at me.
"Oh, that's what we're doing, huh?" I quickly moved towards her but she evaded me and jumped onto the bed instead.
"You're gonna try harder than that," she laughed and jumped off the bed as I lunged after her.
I started chasing after her around the room, the both of us giggling like children playing a game of catch.
"Veronica! Come back here!"
"You wish, Hughes!"
Eventually, I managed to corner her against the wall.
"Got you now," I grinned at her, both hands pressed against the wall to trap her. "Give it back."
Veronica was holding my shirt up, still out of my reach. She gave me an entertained look and shook her head. "No."
I was about to retort when an idea popped into my mind.
"Fine," I said and moved away from her. She looked at me curiously as I walked to her closet and started rifling through her clothes.
"Are you gonna steal one of my shirts?" she asked in amusement.
"Yes, I am."
One particular sweater caught my attention. She always wore it whenever she invited me over to her room. I removed it from the hanger as Veronica crept up behind me to see what I had chosen.
"Seriously? My favourite sweater?"
"Yup!" I tossed it over my head and felt the comfy fabric envelope my body. It smelt just like her which made me smile. "I think it's only fair. Since you're not planning on giving back my shirt, I'm gonna take your sweater then."
"Y'know what, darling?" she asked and pulled me into her, hand still holding onto my shirt. "I think it's a pretty fair trade."
"You do, hm?" I said teasingly. "Why don't we seal the deal with a kiss?"
Her arms wrapped around my neck as I brought her closer to me by the waist. She gave me a brash smile. "Just say you want to kiss me."
"Shut up."
Our lips met in a slow, tender kiss and suddenly, I didn't care that I was running late for class.
~*~*~
Aftermath...
"Veronica!" I heard a shrill voice shout from outside my room a while after Bea left.
I sighed and shouted back, "What do you want, Poppy?"
"Let me in!"
I groaned and got off my bed to open the door for her, knowing she would just scream until I let her in anyway.
"Yes?" I questioned, clearly annoyed.
She brushed past me and entered my room. An angel walked out only for the devil to come in. She turned to face me and crossed her arms. "We need to talk."
"About?"
She rolled her eyes. "Farmsville, duh!"
"Bea, you mean."
"Aw how cute," she mocked with a jeer. "Protecting your little girlfriend."
"Cut the crap, Pops. What is it?"
"Break off whatever fling you have going on with Bea," she said her name with distaste on her lips, cutting right to the chase.
I scoffed. "Why would I do that?"
"When was the last time you vlogged? Or live-streamed?" Poppy asked, ignoring my question.
I paused for a while. "Almost a week ago."
"A week, V. A week," she tsked and pretended to busy herself with the makeup on my dresser. "You used to do it all the time. Speaking of, why haven't you been vlogging or live-streaming your stupid dates? Embarrassed the Veronicats would find out their precious Vivi Lombardi is dating some farmgirl?"
"Oh, but you know Bea isn't just some farmgirl, don't you, Pops?" I smirked, challenging her. "You know Bea is coming for your crown, and fast. You're threatened by her."
I saw her shoulders tense in anger, as if she was gonna blow her lid as she scoffed defensively, "I am not!" She cleared her throat and spoke calmly, "Anyway, you're avoiding my question, V. Afraid to tell the truth?"
"For privacy," I said deadpanned but that wasn't true. If I had it my way, I would've told the Veronicats all about Bea since our first date but I promised her I wouldn't vlog and although it's been months since then, I didn't want to go back on my word even though I was sure Bea would definitely be okay with it.
"You among all people should know there's no such thing as privacy for social media stars," Poppy mocked.
"What's your point?" I asked, getting frustrated.
"My point," she whipped her head around to look at me. "Is that she's a distraction. No wonder you've barely had the attention you used to from your followers. Poor them, too."
I squinted at her. "You don't care about my followers. You never did, you only cared that so many people would listen to me. And in return listened to you. I know why you became friends with me, if we can even call it that, so don't pretend for a second you give a fuck about me or them."
"Oh, so you aren't as mindless as you seem," she raised a brow at me.
"I'm not stupid, Poppy."
"Well, you definitely seem to play that role well."
My jaw clenched in annoyance but I was determined to not give her the satisfaction of knowing it.
"But this benefits you, too, V," she continued in a condescending tone. "If she's gone, you can focus on your," she waved her hand, looking for the right word. "Career."
"You must have gone insane if you think I'm buying your bullshit for even a second."
"Oh, but you will."
"What is that suppose to mean?" I raised a brow at her, tired of games.
"You'll cut things off with Farmsville because if you don't," she paused, giving me a malicious smile. "I'll expose Veronica Lombardi for the fraud she is."
And suddenly, my entire body went cold.
~*~*~
"Veronica!" I heard that familiar voice I've been longing to hear for the past week call out to me and my heart wrenched.
It had only been a week but I missed Bea like nothing I've ever felt before. On top of that, there was also the guilt and shame of ignoring her instead of talking to her like what I should have done.
I wanted to run away on instinct but I forced myself to stay put. I've never felt so unsure in my life which was such a strange feeling since I always knew what I wanted. But this time, what I wanted was a little bit more complicated.
I closed my eyes and exhaled slowly, bracing myself to face her.
"Hey, Bea," I said awkwardly as I turned to look at her which made me even shudder. God, this so wasn't like me.
She looked at me weirdly for a second before concern took over her face which only me feel worse.
"Is everything okay?" Her brows creased as she spoke, her tone laced with worry. "You haven't been replying any of my calls or texts."
"I... I'm so sorry," my voice cracked and I gulped.
"V, what happened?"
The guilt was eating away at me and I couldn't hold it in any longer especially with the way she was looking at me. I looked around and remembered we were still outside the lecture hall.
"Can we talk somewhere private?"
She took me to her room and sat me down on her bed.
"Okay, what is it, Veronica?"
I steeled myself and looked her in the eyes. Then, I spilled everything Poppy said to me. By the time I was done, I expected to scream at me. To shout and cuss at me, to tell me to go to hell and that she never wanted to see my face again. To accuse me of leading her on and using her.
But instead, she was quiet.
I searched her face, looking for a reaction, any reaction, and where I expected to find anger and rage, I found something much worse.
Hurt and disappointment.
"Bea..."
"Veronica, no," she said firmly. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"I'm sorry, I didn't know how to," I said lamely. 'Cuz honestly, how was I suppose to tell the girl you liked and have been seeing for months that you were torn between choosing her and your follower count? Even thinking about it made me cringe but that's what it was.
"God, V," she spoke sadly. "I don't even care that you're having trouble choosing between me and your followers. I know how hard you've worked for them just to throw it all away." She looked away. "I'm upset that you didn't even think to come to me to tell me about what was happening."
And I felt a million times worse than I already did.
"Bea..."
"I could've helped you. Don't you trust me?" her voice cracked. She stood up, not looking at me but I stood with her. "'Cuz I trusted you. And if Poppy pulled some shit like this on me I would've told you. I wouldn't even think twice about it."
I didn't respond. I didn't know how to. It wasn't that I didn't trust her, I just didn't know how to face her.
"Of course I trust you! I was just worried!"
"Worried about what?"
I bit my lip, wondering how I should phrase it. "That you wouldn't understand."
She scoffed and turned to face me. "Yeah, so much for trusting me, right? You didn't even give me a chance."
I knew she was right. "I'm sorry," was all I could say.
"That's all you have to say?" she asked, disappointed. She crossed her arms and shook her head, groaning. "God, I should've known better."
"What? What are you saying?" I asked warily.
"Of course you were too good to be true. I should've seen it. I knew there had to be a reason I didn't like you when I first saw you." She stepped towards me, tears streaming down her face. "And this was probably why. You run away as soon as things get bumpy and ignore it. So goodbye, Veronica."
Her words were like a knife slicing through me. Piercing and jabbing at my soul but I deserved it. She pointed towards her door, not even wanting to look at me and I felt my heart start to shatter.
"Bea, please, let me explain."
"Explain what? About how I was I fool to think I meant more to you? About how I would've told you everything but you didn't even tell me about this? Save it!" she spat. "I don't want to hear it."
"Please, let me make it up to you," I begged. "Please, Bea."
She sighed. "How?"
"This past week was hell for me. I felt like absolute crap. And I know how that must have felt for you too and I'm sorry. I know it must have been frustrating being left in the dark."
"I was just so worried for you," she admitted in a small voice that made me want to kick myself.
"And I can't apologise enough for it," I continued and stepped closer to her. "And I'm not just saying that, I really do mean it. It killed me, not talking to you for the past week and I know I'm the only one to blame for that. But I felt guilty and ashamed but mostly, I felt so lost. Ever since I started spending time with you, you were like a light guiding me even if you didn't realise it. I opened up more to you than I ever had with anyone and I was becoming more comfortable showing the real me to others. And if there's anything I learnt in the past week, I'm ready, Bea. I'm ready to show my followers who I am."
I cautiously raised my hand to cup her cheek, afraid she would slap my hand away or pull back but she didn't. My palm met her face in a soft caress and I felt butterflies in my stomach. I wiped away her tears with my thumb as I spoke. "And I also learnt that I really like you Bea. Much more than I expected to. And I would give it all up for you. Of course I'm proud of what I've worked for but what's the point if I lose my happiness because of it? And you, Bea Hughes, are my happiness."
She looked at me, her piercing brown eyes bore into mine and I tried pleading with them to her, to show her how honest my words were, how I meant it all.
After what seemed like eternity, she rolled her eyes and breath out, "And you say you aren't cheesy."
Relief washed over my entire body and I let out a huge sigh.
"I gotta do what I gotta do to get you back don't I?"
"God, don't you ever stop?"
I gave her a small smile, feeling incredibly thankful. "Not if I can help it."
She pulled me into her and hugged me, resting her head on my shoulder. I felt chills run through my body as I rubbed her back.
"And for the record," she whispered quietly. "I like you a lot too, V."
My heart leapt in my chest at her declaration and I was so happy, I could cry. "Thank you, beautiful."
"So what are you planning to do now."
I closed my eyes and rested my head against hers.
"Expose myself before that bitch does it first."
~*~*~
"Are you ready?" she asked me as we stepped onto the courtyard. She looked at me to be certain. "Are you sure you want to this?"
I smiled at het softly and took her hand to give it a reassuring squeeze before letting go. I couldn't express how grateful I was that she still by my side. "More than anything if it means I get to be with you."
We walked side-by-side to the middle of campus where a screaming Poppy was scolding a poor freshman for something stupid, no doubt.
"Hey, Glorified Barbie, over here!" I shouted at her.
She shot me a glare. "What the hell did you say to me?"
"Oh, so you do know I'm talking about you then," I laughed.
A crowd started to gather around us and my heart started racing but there was no backing down now. I had to do this. I looked at Chloe who was among the crowd. She held up my phone, live-streaming to my followers the shit storm that was about to happen.
Poppy turned red in the face and noticed Bea standing beside me. "For fuck sakes, V! Are you really gonna throw away all your years of pretending online just for that?" She pointed at Bea with a disgusted scowl on her face. "You must be dumber than I thought."
I was about to shoot back a snide remark in Bea's defense but I felt her hand lightly touch my arm. She knew what I was thinking and shook her head, reminding me not to get distracted from the actual reason we were here.
"If anything, Pops, you're the dumb one here." I stepped closer to her. "I have to admit, you got me there for a second. You really made me believe you had power over me. But you underestimate how loyal and understanding my followers are." I looked into the camera of my phone. "And if they aren't, then I don't think I want them."
"Veronica, you stupid cow! What the hell do you think you're doing?"
"Oh, am I making you mad Poppy? That you you have nothing to hold over me anymore?" I taunted her with a smirk, no doubt infuriating her more. "That you can't control my followers anymore either?"
"This is ridiculous!"
"You heard it here first, Veronicats!" I grinned into the camera, finally feeling free. " Veronica Lombardi isn't who you think she is." I turned to Bea and my face soften looking at how proud she was of me. "Consider this my first step of rebranding."
I held out my hand to Bea and she gladly accepted it with a smile on her face.
"And one more thing," I said and held eye contact with the fuming bitch across the lawn. "Fuck you, Poppy!" I flipped her off and the crowd surrounding us gasped as I tugged Bea into a passionate kiss. One of my arms wrapped around her neck while the other cupped her face, my thumb gently stroking her cheek while hers was pulling me into her by the waist.
Among the sea of people, I heard Zoey whooping and cheering for us. "Hell yeah, babe! Get it!" And just like that, everyone started clapping and cheering along.
I felt Bea start laughing against my lips and I smiled into the kiss. I pulled back to grin rakishly at Poppy who was about to blow her lid off. Her face was red and she stomped her feet in anger. "Veronica! Stop this nonsense right now!"
"Or what? You'll expose me? Oh, wait!"
Bea and I giggled as Poppy shouted, "You better watch your fucking back! Both you and Farmsville! This isn't over!"
"Oh but it is, Pops!" I called out after her. "You have nothing over me now, so go find someone else to blackmail and manipulate!"
She lets out a shriek as she stormed off, leaving us in laughing in each other's arms with a crowd of supporters behind us. I walked towards Chloe and thanked her before taking back my phone to address my online audience.
"Well, Veronicats, there you have it," I gave them a winning smile, trying my best not to look at the comment I was currently being bombarded with. "I know you have a lot of questions right now, so leave 'em and I'll answer them in a Q&A later." I signed off in a much calm and collected manner than the usual high-energy outros I would give them. It was a small step but for the first time in years, I felt like I could finally breathe again.
I made my way back to Bea's side where the crowd started to dissipate.
"Well, you did it!" she cheered with a huge grin as she encircled me in her arms. "I'm so proud of you!"
"Thank you, beautiful." I placed a kiss on her forehead and brought her closer into me to hug her tight, resting my cheek against hers.
"Are you scared?"
"Oh, I'm terrified," I laughed and she giggled along. "But having you by my side definitely helps."
I heard her scoff but her felt her cheek become warm against my own. "Cheesy Veronica is back at it again I see."
"But seriously," I whispered into her ear. "Thank you so much. For everything."
I felt her squeeze me. "Thank you for choosing me."
"You're worth it," I sighed. I thought about all the backlash I would get, from my manager, my followers, the haters, the general public, everyone. I think about all the followers and subscribers and support I'd lose and yet, nothing would be as bad as losing Bea.
So despite my worries and fears, my greatest comfort was in my arms and no matter what happened next, I knew I could face it with her.
"You'll always be worth it."

FIC: Welcome to Backwater ch.15 (spicyhoney)
Summary: Stretch is still dealing with the fallout of the last chapter. Like he needs anything else to happen right now?

As hot as the days were, these last, lingering sticky days of summer, the nights in Backwater tended to cool off as soon as the sun began to dip below the horizon.
It made for a good time to sit out on the back porch for a quick smoke. Usually only tobacco, Stretch didn’t have Red’s resilience when it came to getting up the next day after smoking his atom bomb version of weed. The last thing he wanted was to give the local kids their first view of an ugly hangover, he’d leave that sort of education for their parents to dole out.
Most of the time, Stretch kept it to one cigarette. His first paycheck was better than he’d expected but it was still wiser to be frugal, so he stuck with his one cig and tried not to think about how that would have pleased his brother. Blue’d been trying to get him to quit for years now and in the past months whenever his bro brought it up, his ex always chimed in with a similar opinion on it, both of them citing statistics as if they were practicing for a damned public service announcement.
Quitting his smokes was something Stretch resisted for no damn good reason other than he didn’t want to quit, thanks, sorry for him trying to adult a little around here. All the nagging did was take the joy out of it and left him smoking out of resentment rather than recreation. Cutting down to one a day was milestone he’d never managed to get to back in Ebott. Not even when the Docs told him it might help with—well.
Anyway, tonight he’d decided to indulge himself; after the day he’d had, he figured he deserved to go through a whole damn pack.
The porch light was a stark, sodium-yellow and the furniture cast strange shadows in it, bones of the true darkness that lay beyond. Stretch sprawled out on the dusty old sofa, blowing lazy smoke rings up at the overhang covering the porch and occasionally tapping ash into the rusty old Maxwell coffee can that Red kept around as an ashtray. The other skeleton had already gone inside, and the living room windows were dark, a pretty big clue that he’d probably already headed off to bed. Early for him, but, eh, Stretch figured he’d had a hell of a day, too, and his guilt over his own involvement in that sat in his chest like a lead brick.
At his feet, the dog curled up in a tight little donut of fluff and Stretch absently pet him with his bare foot, wincing as strands of hair caught in his bony joints. The dog didn’t seem to care about the little yanks and tugs, only huffed out a contented sigh, pushing demandingly into the touch.
“dunno if you deserve pats,” Stretch told him absently. He tried for something resembling stern, though he didn’t stop petting, “you weren’t being too friendly out at edge’s place.”
The dog only snorted and rolled to his side, giving Stretch access to his belly for more rubs.
Stretch hadn’t even realized Red brought the dog along at first. Not until he hauled his bike over to truck bed, still flustered over the almost-could be-kinda-a-something that his boss/landlord’s timely arrival interrupted. Before he could even start heaving the bike in, the dog popped up like a slobbery jack in the box and began attacking Stretch’s face with kisses.
“wha—stop, you shit!” Stretch sputtered, laughing and trying to fend off the dog’s eager advances. The bike was heavier than a normal one and awkward to hold, and between that and the doggy love attack, Stretch lost his grip. The handbars swung into the side of the truck and shrieked their way down in a scrape of metal against metal as it fell, the rest of it finishing off with a loud clang. Not that it did any damage; Red’s truck probably only qualified as one by a technicality, held together by vague hopes, rust, and the liberal use of miles of duct tape.
Behind Stretch, Edge spoke up, “Here, let me help.” But the moment he stepped forward, the dog’s excited wriggling screeched to a halt and morphed into stillness couched with a sudden, unexpected growl.
“woah, hey, boy,” Stretch said with surprised caution. The dog hadn’t even growled when those guys in town were trying to use him as a pinata, too scared, maybe, but Edge wasn’t a threat so why the hell—
A low, deep throated snarl came from behind Stretch and the dog yelped, ducking down into the truck bed, cowering. Stretch whipped around to stare at Edge in disbelief, okay, yeah, that one wasn’t on his bingo card for weird happenings. "did you just growl at my dog?"
Edge only looked back steadily, "You have to assert dominance."
Well, uh, that was…it did seem to work, sort of. The dog chose that moment to abandon ship, scrambling up and wriggling through the little back window that led into the cab to curl up against Red. The moment he was safe, he looked at Stretch and Edge with wounded betrayal, like he hadn’t started it, the little shit.
Good thing the dog didn’t know what the memory of that growl was doing to the inside of Stretch’s pants, (fucking rawr). The pooch would never forgive him.
“quit traumatizing mutt," Red snorted. He ruffled the dog’s ears soothingly and the pup settled, resting his chin on Red’s femur as he looked up with a mournful ‘the big kids are pickin’ on me’ expression. "c'mon, armstrong, let’s hit the road, s’getting dark."
That woke Stretch up from his dual versions of shock and unf!shock. He grunted with the effort of heaving the bike into the truck bed, mumbling a grateful ‘thank you’ when a second pair of strong hands helped out, and he really, really tried not to feel the way Edge was pressed up against his back, a line of warm moving against him as both of them settling the bike securely in. It was only when Edge stepped back and took his fatal distraction with him that something clicked.
Wait. Not the mutt, but—
Stretch stuck his head in through the open window, looking at the skeleton and his dog, who pointedly weren’t looking back. “you named the dog mutt?”
“didn’t name it anything,” Red scoffed. He scruffed the dog, whose name was totally Mutt, gently.
“technicalities won’t save you,” Stretch told him gleefully, “there was a list on the counter, you had options, and you still named the dog…dog.”
That got finally got him a look, or more precisely, a glare. “could always let you walk home.”
That was true. Stretch abandoned ribbing without even getting to pun about it and climbed hastily into the truck. The door hinge squalled when he pulled open the door, flakes of rust falling in a shower as he slammed it shut. No wonder Red didn’t drive around much if this was his primary vehicle, but in the interest of not getting kicked out, Stretch decided it would be for the best to not bring up the rubber banded pile of newspapers Red was sitting on. He definitely wasn’t gonna ask how Red was reaching the pedals.
Edge rounded the truck to Red’s side, briefly outlined in the glare of the headlights. With the remains of the sun at his back, his eye lights were stark in the growing darkness. Bright crimson glaring in at his brother as he stood next to the truck, his arms crossed over his chest. “You could always come in for coffee.”
It wasn’t a question and Red didn’t answer it. “tell the kid i said hi.”
Edge replied tartly. “Tell them yourself.”
“heh.” A strange laugh, humorless and somehow still tinged with amusement. “see ya around, bro.”
Yeah, there was some kind of story there, all right, and Stretch was the guy who waited too long at the concession stand and came into the play during Act 3.
There was only one person who might give him any answers, since two-thirds of the people involved already turned him down and it was the same guy who didn’t even give Edge a chance to say goodbye, only threw the truck into reverse and with a clumsy three-point turn that barely avoided any of the flowerbeds, they were headed back down path that led to town, out of the woods.
The ride back wasn’t exactly quiet, the bumpy road and rattling complaints of the truck took care of that. But it was wordless, for a while. Until they got closer to the main road and the bumps smoothed out a little, droning hum of tires on asphalt an invitation.
“red—” Stretch started, slowly. He wasn’t even sure what he was gonna say yet, uncertain if he really wanted any other revelations tonight. He was feeling a little epiphanied out.
Red only sighed deeply, “pretty sure you, the kid, and my bro had a helluva chat, you sure you really wanna talk to me about it now?”
No. Yes. “maybe?”
The newspapers under him made a dry shuffling sound as Red shifted his weight to change gears. “one question, kid, that’s all i got answers for. choose wisely.”
Great, now he was on an impromptu grail quest.
Stretch hesitated over his options; there were so many, how could he pick only one? Like, why didn’t Red live with Edge and Frisk, why had he refused to even go into the house, and what the hell was up with Edge being so salty about it? Hell, there were deeper question than that, if he wanted to dig. How had they gotten out of their Underground to here, what happened to Red’s leg, so many whats and wheres and whys.
A look at Red showed he was grinding his teeth, his crimson eye lights focused solely on the road and at the end of the day, there was only one question Stretch really needed an answer to tonight, for reasons he desperately didn’t want to talk about.
He ran his tongue over his teeth nervously, looking down at his hands in his lap rather than the passing blur of road in the headlights out the windshield. “you knew who i was when you first saw me here, didn’t you. edge said you watched the tv when we first came to the surface.”
The joints in his hands creaked as they went tight on the steering wheel and Red exhaled with weary slowness. “yeah, i knew.” He slanted a brief glance at Stretch, eye lights flicking between him and the road. “gave me a hell of a start, don’t mind tellin’ ya. you were busy chasin’ beer cans and didn’t notice me almost fallin’ on my ass.”
“that’s why you helped me, isn’t it, when i first came to town?” The accusation that Red was ‘adopted’ him because he looked like Edge stung, but it was true enough, wasn’t it. Someone with his kid brother’s face, someone to feed and clothe and take care of, like he couldn’t with his own bro for whatever their secret reasons were. Like he was a fucking pet, another dog, woof woof, and the care that seemed so genuine that morning felt suddenly tainted, as stifling as his own brother’s.
“heh,” Red’s mouth twisted into a sneering smile, “kid, come on.”
Stretch said nothing. He could see the neon sign from ‘The Whistling Cow’ slowly approaching, looming closer, blurring in his vision and there was no subtle way to wipe at his sockets, he could only do it quickly and hope it wasn’t noticed.
A failed hope, like most. Red made an impatient sound, loud enough that the dog sleeping his lap stirred, then he said roughly. “yeah, okay, you reminded me some of my little brother, but that ain’t why i let you stay.”
Let it go, let it go, Elsa, you don’t have anywhere else to go. “then why?”
“‘cause i like ya, that’s why!” Red snarled. His ever-present grin curled into a grimace, tight and strained, each word as sharp as one of his jagged teeth. “been rattling around alone in this old shop for awhile now. been kinda nice to have someone underfoot, since i ain’t got goddamn feet. good enough?”
“yes,” Stretch admitted, a threadbare little word. It was, helped ease some of the pained tightness surrounding his soul to know that Red wasn’t simply another person who wanted to be around him not out of friendship, but mere circumstance. He’d had plenty of that in his life and all it left him with was an empty contact list on his phone and an emptier ache in his soul.
He startled at a hand awkwardly touching his own, bony fingers briefly squeezing before they withdrew. “stretch? you and my bro ain’t nothin’ alike. c’n trust me on that much.”
“is that good or bad,” Stretch couldn’t help asking. He thought of the little borrowed room he was sleeping in at night, his part time job hawking groceries, of Edge’s home in the woods with its beautiful gardens and delicious meals.
Red shrugged. He turned the wheel, guiding the truck into a parking spot that was nearly hidden on the other side of the shop. “beats the fuck out of me, just is, and it don’t matter, anyway. don’t care what the charts and graphs and shit say, ain’t no reason to compare ya. ya ain’t the same person. you’re you and bein’ you should be good enough for anyone.”
The engine ticked slowly as it cooled and Stretch thought of the way their landlord back in Ebott kept mistaking him for Papyrus, of getting bitched at once for a window he hadn’t broken or thanked for muffins he hadn’t brought. Not anybody or nobody, only himself, at least here in Backwater. “thanks.”
“s’fine,” Red grunted. “just don’t forget i ain’t your bro.”
“oh, fuck, no,” Stretch blurted out. He winced as he realized how that sounded. “i mean, you’re more like a mom, anyway.”
“heh,” That laugh was more a little more genuine, not much, but it was something. “fuck you.”
“nah, that wasn’t in the rental agreement.”
“and thank the fucking angel for that.” With a groan of hinges and a slam of the door, Red got out of the truck, the dog at his heels. He didn’t turn back to see if Stretch was with him, only went as fast as he could, cane swishing at his side as he practically ran into the house, the screen door banging shut behind him.
Stretch followed more slowly, stopping off at the porch and that was where he stayed, thinking about having a cigarette and not at all about giving Red some time to himself after having the asshole he was trying to help question his motives, exactly like an asshole would.
Mutt hesitated, debating for a minute over choosing between them before finally decided that Stretch was the victor, and whether or not that was because he thought Stretch needed watching over more didn’t matter. Stretch appreciated the company, anyway.
That left him here, smoking and watching moths flutter suicidally close around the porch light.
Stretch dropped a used butt into the coffee can and debated lighting another. On one hand, he was starting to feel a little nauseous from so much smoking, on the other, he sort of wanted to feel nauseous. Wanted to feel something that he could name.
What was the proper term for how to feel when you were living in a weird town with alternate version of yourself and your bro, which, by the way, one out of the two has been crawling up your top ten list of spank bank partners? If there was a definition for it, it was gonna take more than a quick google search to ferret it out.
He still hadn’t decided whether or not to light another when at his feet, the dog suddenly lifted his head, ears perking up.
“what is it, boy?” Stretch leaned up on his elbow, squinting out into the darkness outside the protective ring of porch light. “if this is about a kid in a well, you can tell timmy he’ll have to wait, this is not a good time—hey!”
A threatening line of fur rose up on the dog’s back as he let out a low, deep woof, nothing like the little growl at Edge earlier. Before Stretch could grab for him, Mutt was scrambling to his feet. He leapt off the porch and ran off into the night, fuck, in the direction of the forest.
“hey, wait! no, no, no, damn it!” Stretch shoved his feet into his shoes, wincing at the friction and almost immediately tripping over the laces. “not that way!”
There was barely time to hope he didn’t break his damn leg as he chased after the dog, following the little puff of whiteness through the dark as he tried not to go facefirst into anything. It was sheer luck there weren’t many obstacles in the path; town was in the opposite direction and there was nothing much behind the shop but parched earth and dead grass. Right up until the edge of the woods where saplings rose up in clusters, little ponds of greenery that led to the ocean of trees and that was where Stretch skidded to a halt, watching helplessly as that patch of white disappeared into the darkness.
Yeah, okay, he wasn’t about to go in the woods, ignoring warnings around this place was bad for life expectancy and Stretch wasn’t the kind of guy who’d feed weird critters after midnight.
“fuck, fuck,” Stretch muttered under his breath, pacing right outside the treeline and slapping away any sapling that tried to get in his way as he wracked his brain for what the hell he could do now.
Maybe if he stood outside and shouted at the damn mutt, he’d at least have something to follow back out. He wasn’t sure there was much else he could do, the townsfolk were nice, but he didn’t think asking them out for a midnight search party for a dog would go over very well.
Overhead, the bloated circle of the moon faded in and out from behind the clouds. He didn’t even have his phone, it was still in his bag on the porch, safely beneath that splash of light that seemed so far away now. Stretch dug into his pocket for his lighter, the rasp loud over the faint rustling of leaves overhead. It flared to life and the tiny flame barely illuminating the space around him, but it was better than nothing.
“mutt?” Stretch called tentatively, then more coaxingly, “c’mon boy, come back out!” He tried a few iterations of that with increasingly sappy endearments, feeling as stupid as he had when he’d tried them on his ex. The dog responded about as well, stubbornly refusing to bow to any version of baby, sweetums, or snooky that Stretch tried.
“damn it all to hell,” Stretch cursed softly. First, he’d gotten caught nearly macking on Red’s little brother when he’d said he wouldn’t, not a broken promise but still, then he’d blunder into giving Red’s traumas a quick poke, and now he’d lost the dog that he’d only just gotten for Red. He was obviously already pretty attached to the so-named Mutt and after hearing him vague about how he’d been lonely, it wasn’t much of a surprise.
But going into the woods after him felt a hell of a lot like making a bad situation worse.
Stretch sighed heavily. Nope, better not to chance it. Maybe if he brought out a bowl of food, the dumb mutt would smell it and head for home and—wait.
…what was that? Stretch tipped his head to the side, straining to listen.
He hadn’t really even notice that soft sound at its beginning, the soft lilt of a melody winding its way through branches and leaves out of the woods, a song he almost but didn’t quite know. It was the seductive peal of a silver laugh of delight, it was the delicate caress of the wind, the chuckling burble of a cool stream pouring invitingly over smooth rocks, and the intangible caress of unearthly desires
It was the alluring sweetness of a siren, the song of a temptress calling one who was no sailor into a dry sea and doom.
His vision was cast into paleness like the bloom of the moonlight, filling him to the brim until nothing was left within but that endless song. Without a single thought of his own left crowded in amongst the tangled notes in his head taking mastery over him, Stretch took his first dazed step into the woods.

Blue Hour || Amane Yugi pt. 4/5
(Amane Yugi x Fem!Reader)
genre: romance, drama and a bit of fantasy
summary: in which the yugi twins, kou minamoto and sousuke mitsuba went to find [name]
"The night without a single starlight, the path we walked on is lonely and regretful"
It was around 7:15 am when Amane woke up from his bed. He scratched his messy hair while looking at Tsukasa hugging his pillow with a tiny drool on the side of his lips. The older twin hopped off the bed as he made his way to his sleeping brother. “Oi Tsukasa, wake up we have to leave early!”
“Five more minutes” Tsukasa groaned against the pillow he was hugging. Amane's eyes twitched in annoyance. Yesterday, Tsukasa was the one pestering his older brother about being excited on the upcoming trip.
Amane lets out an exaggerated sigh, he smacked the back of his brother's head. “Ow! What the—” Tsukasa opened his eyes and rubbed the back of his head pouting. “I'm up!”
“Good.” Amane walks away from their room and went straight to the bathroom. Tsukasa rubbed the back of his head to soothe the pain. He stood up and went to the kitchen to get something to eat.
The shower room was a bit steamy since Amane activated the heater to produce hot water. He sighed, water droplets begin to trickle down from his hair to his skin. Amane placed his hands against the wall in front of him, his hair looked damped as it continues to drip droplets of water like rain.
Amane stepped out of the shower whilst wrapping a towel around his torso. He grabbed another towel to dry his hair and draped it around his neck for a little while.
After drying himself, Amane puts on his undergarments, then his oversized black shirt tuckdd in to his black cargo pants. He grabbed a belt and buckled it to his pants. Finally, he grabbed his white hoodie with a silhouette of a rocket ship as a design and puts it inside his bag.
“Tsukasa, are you done?” Amane asked, grabbing his black backpack nearby and putting on one of its straps.
Tsukasa came out, he's wearing a grey shirt with striped sleeves that has a smiley face on it. He's wearing black shorts, he doesn't like anything that covers his legs. “Yeah, I'm done!”
“Mitsuba and the Minamoto kid must be waiting for us.” Amane beckoned him to go downstairs to the doorway to change their shoes. “If we don't go early, we wouldn't be able to find her. [name] said to meet her in 5:53 pm so let's go!”
“We need some food too, Amane!” Tsukasa went to the kitchen and grabbed two packs of Lays. He stuffed it inside Amane's backpack. “Okay, that's all!”
‘I was gonna say that we're gonna eat in a fast food restaurant but that works I guess.’ Amane puts on his black chonky-soled boots. “Let's go.” he stood up as the twins went out of their house, starting their quest to find [name].
“We just have to ride two trains towards Sanaol Academy.” Mitsuba mentions. “We don't have to waste four hours of getting there.”
Kou looked over to Amane and sweatdropped. “Senpai, why are you dressing so casually? I thought we're supposed to find [name]?” he said.
“He's going to flex his fashion sense for [name].” Mitsuba smugs at Amane earning a smack from the latter, the pink haired boy is known for being a cocky bastard and a tease especially to his close friends.
“Let's go to the train station.” Amane tells the three boys who were glancing all over the place. They nodded as they followed Amane towards the nearest station to take the train towards Yokohama to [name]'s school.
The train ride took longer than they thought it would be. Tsukasa was sitting on one of the seats while texting with someone on the phone. Mitsuba and Kou were sleeping next to each other during the ride. As for Amane, he remained standing, clinging on one of the handles next to Tsukasa's seat.
Amane was listening through his headphones while scrolling through his phone. The train stopped for the people who are going to leave and the people who are going inside.
Amane has his eyes on his phone that he didn't even realize that the train was crowding with people. A certain girl wearing a fluffy jacket with a crop top underneath and a pair of cargo pants passed by the standing boy.
Then, he heard a sound that made his eyes widen. Amane looked over to the person who just passed by but they were already gone. “Amane?” Tsukasa called. “What are you looking at?”
Amane shook his head. “That was nothing.” he replied flatly.
What he did not know is that it was [name] who passed by.
Amane fell asleep while hanging on to one of the handles in the train. The train halted to its next stop making his eyes flutter open. He pulled out his phone from his pocket. “It's noon already.” he mentions.
“Wake them up.” Amane covered his mouth to yawn as he beckons Tsukasa to wake Mitsuba and Kou since they arrived to Yokohama.
The four of them stepped out of the train. Amane looked around for the person who passed by him that triggered a sound. He furrowed his eyes in confusion and shook his head. “You three want something to eat?”
“I mean, we’re hungry anyways of course we want to.” Mitsuba cocked an eyebrow at Amane as if the answer is obvious that they were hungry because of the train ride. Amane looked over to his phone, then pointed at the distance.
“There’s a fast food restaurant that we can go to.” He pointed out.
“Then what the hell were we waiting for? New Year? Let’s go!” Mitsuba waves his hands towards Kou and Tsukasa who were admiring the tall buildings and the roaming transportations. The four boys started to walk their way to a nearby restaurant.
After ordering their food from the counter, the four of them took some seats by the window. “Now that we’re here, when do we start looking?” Kou unwrapped the wrapper that was around the burger, then took a bite from it. “You said we’ll start by going to Sanaol Academy”
“After we eat I guess.” Amane sipped on the cherry soda he was drinking, looking at the window deep in thought. He was kind of nervous of meeting [name] like he wanted to make a good impression of her. “Hmm, what should I say when we meet?”
“Give her a pick up line!” Mitsuba suggested with a cocky grin but it turned into a look of disgust after that. “But not the corny ones of course. Ew.”
“Yeah, Amane!” Tsukasa added, agreeing with Mitsuba's idea. Truth to be told, Amane is a pretty charming guy and everything about him is godly so they're sure that he can initiate a pick up line. “Tell us your best pick up line!”
Amane slowly raised his hand and awkwardly smiled. “Hi...?”
Mitsuba sat there judging Amane with a look of disgust and cringe. Tsukasa's eyes twitched and he looked like he was gonna rant out on how he should make a pick up line. “Amane, you're never gonna have a girlfriend if you stick with that.”
And so when they got out of the restaurant, Mitsuba and Tsukasa gave Amane a lecture about flirting with girls. You can't blame him though, he doesn't have any experience with girls so he has poor knowledge about it. “Maybe you two shouldn't pressure Senpai like that.” Kou worriedly looks at Amane. “Just say hi and smile at her, talk about your backgrounds and stuffs.”
Amane smiled and ruffled his junior's blonde hair. “Thanks, kid.”
“Oi!” Mitsuba whirled around to the two. “We're here in Sanaol Academy.” he pointed out to the gate of the school.
Amane's heart quickened in nervousness, could it be that he was finally meeting [name] behind those letters?
The choppy haired boy saw a girl going out from the school, he decided to go and ask her of she knew [name]. “Ah, excuse me.” Amane called the girl.
“Yo!” she greeted back with a quirkful grin. “Whaddya need?”
“Do you know someone named [name] [surname]?” Amane asked while twiddling his fingers.
“[name]-san?” the girl rubbed her chin to think and then her eyes lit up when she knew. “Oh yes! She's from my dance class!”
“[name]-san is a dancer?” Amane tilted his head.
“Yeah, she takes dancing lessons after school.” She grabbed a lollipop and plopped it inside her mouth. “But she left an hour ago after the practice.”
“Oh.” Amane felt like he was relying on false hope.
“Are you perhaps her boyfriend?”
Mitsuba let out a plfft sound, Tsukasa tried his best not to utter an 'oop' and Kou stood there wondering what the hell is going on. Amane's face turned red till the tips of his ears. “N-No! I-I'm just her friend, that's all—”
“Drop the cap, Amane.” Tsukasa cocked his head and raised his enclosed fist. “We been knew you have a thing for her—”
“Tsukasa I swear—”
“But I think I know wheres she's heading.” The girl interrupted the two twin boys from talking. “[name]-san is always heading towards that abandoned ferris wheel that she's talking about.”
‘The ferris wheel that I keep seeing in my dream and the postcard!’
“Do you know where this ferris wheel is?” Amane handed her the postcard which contains the picture of the ferris wheel.
“It wasn't that far but it wasn't that near either, I'll let you borrow my bike for that matter. Oh and my name is Yiren.”
Yiren told Amane which way he should go to the ferris wheel. The choppy haired boy nodded at every word she says. “...And then you'll see the ferris wheel.”
“That's a long way to go...” Kou commented.
Amane gets on the bike and looked at the three. He gripped on to the handle and then sets his foot down for a moment. “Tsukasa, I'll go find [name]-san, you guys should go ahead.”
“Yiren-san, thank you.” And so Amane started to pedal towards his destination to find [name].
“So that guy was [name]-san's pen pal.” Yiren smiled, crossing her arms. She looked over to the three and grinned. “Wanna go to the arcade?”
“This is a pretty bumpy ride.” Amane kept his balance steady since he's going down to a steep hill. The sky suddenly turned into a mixture of pink, purple and orange, giving it a sunset vibe. The way the wind blows against his hair as it lifted his bangs up.
Amane tried hoisting his head up to get a better look until he saw something lose his balance.
The ferris wheel.
Amane wobbled as if he was going to fall at any moment but ended up falling off the bike. He rolled down to the grassy hill, writhing in pain at the impact. Then, it stopped.
“Ahck!” Amane hissed at the pain. There was a bruise on his arm because of the fall. He couldn't get up and felt tears pricking from his eyes.
Why was he chasing someone so far? Why was he desperate to find [name]? He was almost there, almost to the ferris wheel, almost there to meeting her.
But Amane wouldn't give up that easily.
He wouldn't give up because he loves [name], and he'd come so far for looking for her.

An Angel’s Vow
[Dean/Castiel - Season 12 divergence where Cas was the only one with Kelly when she gave birth and he goes on the run/in hiding with baby Jack. He’s trying his hardest to be a good dad.]
Chapter One - (Or Read on AO3)
It was the third car he ditched, and the fourth he’d stolen today. Cas knew that he was being excessive at this point, especially with the erratic out of the way routes and doubling back he’d been doing in case he was being followed. He couldn’t afford a mistake. Not now.
His gaze slid over to the rear-view mirror for probably the thousandth time today. Still, there in his eye line was Jack sleeping in his car seat. The sight unnerved him every time.
Reading books, watching videos, taking online classes were all one thing, but...actually taking care of a child was a completely different experience. Jack wasn’t even twenty-four hours old yet, and Cas had already frozen in panic and broke down crying more times than he’d care to admit.
They crossed over the state line into Washington. Cas’ grip tightened on the steering wheel. What he wanted most was to be going in the opposite direction. To an extent, yes, the Men of Letters Bunker would be safe for Jack, but nowhere was going to offer the protection they needed from Heaven. His body ached to head for Kansas, because after these last several years on Earth, Cas was starting to associate the feeling of home with the Winchesters. And home was something he badly wanted for Jack.
The sun was rising when they drove up to the small cabin in North Cove. Cas parked the car, but he didn’t move from his seat. Guilt was coiling and tightening around his throat for the entire drive, but it was only now with the house looming over him that he desperately felt like clawing for air. It wasn’t fair what happened to Kelly.
The next several weeks were bumpy. Jack was definitely growing faster than human babies his age, but no where near as fast as Amara. Whether any of that was a good or a bad thing, Cas had no idea. The nephilim was an utter mystery to him. At the very least, as far as Cas could tell...Jack was a happy baby.
That was the only thing that kept Cas grounded while he tried to master the finesse of diaper changes, formula, and wrangling wiggling baby limbs. What didn’t help was the disharmonious tune of longing encircling him. Some days it was quiet like a lullaby, but others it was erratic and thunderous. The worse days were the ones where there was nothing at all.
It stung, but he knew that Dean wasn’t intentionally praying to him. He would if he absolutely needed to, but Dean was stubborn. Cas figured that even if Jack was aware of the situation, his reasoning skills were sufficient enough to surmise Dean was angry and that he wanted Cas to return to the bunker just so he could be told exactly so.
Castiel was in no mood to be chastised for doing exactly what Dean would do if the situation was reversed. The man’s double standards were maddening.
Today though was different. Cas was busy at the kitchen sink washing dishes when he heard a whisper. Castiel? Are you there? He dropped the small bowl that was in his hand. It splashed soapy water back up at him. You better be alive.
He stood there waiting for several minutes after that, but there was nothing else to the prayer. That was it. Cas picked up the dish towel on the counter and dried his hands, looking over his shoulder at Jack in his high chair.
Jack’s smile widened when they made eye contact. He started lightly tapping the palms of his hands on the tray part of the chair.
“Is it okay if I make a quick phone call?”
Jack’s head tilted to the side while he babbled.
The soft smile on Cas’ face grew. “I know. I know. We’re supposed to be off the grid hiding.” Cas dug his cell phone out of his coat’s inside pocket. He looked at the black screen before looking back at the baby. “It’ll only be for a minute. And after all this time there’s no way anyone is watching close enough to find us, right?”
Jack continued to babble away while he tried to wave every limb he could. Even his metaphysical wings.
Cas couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight. He knew this was Jack’s way of signaling he would like to be released from the chair’s confinement. “Can you wait until I’m done with my phone call, and then we can sit in the other room? It won’t be long.”
Jack stopped his wiggling and went back to rubbing the palms of his hands all over the chair. Cas took that as a, yes. Sighing, he leaned his back against the edge of the counter and turned his phone on.
It came to life and buzzed erratically for a couple minutes. Cas wasn’t sure what to do other than wait for it to stop. Even Jack was eyeing the phone oddly. Eventually, the buzzing ceased and Cas discovered that he had: over a dozen missed calls, tons of text messages, and a couple voice mails.
He groaned. It was bad enough that he had to keep track of the phone at all times, but what he really hated were the angry, red notification icons. So Cas did what he had to and cleared them out. All the missed calls were from Dean and they were consistent. He never went more than four days without calling. Cas opened the text messages next. The majority were again, from Dean.
Cas opened the ones from Sam first: Hey, I know you’re doing what you think is best but please pick up the phone once in a while.
Hey, is there any chance you can let Dean win the competition for being the most stubborn bastard this time and call him back? He’s driving me insane.
I saw on the news an aerial shot of the blast zone. I hope you and the baby are safe. Send us any kind of sign that you’re okay. Please.
It was too much. Grief battered into him in an unforgiving wave. Cas put the phone down and plucked Jack from his chair. He held the baby close to his chest. “We’re okay,” he whispered. “We’re okay. We’re okay. We’re okay.”
And they were. And so was Sam….and Dean. But not Kelly. It was inevitable. They all knew that, but still….Cas hoped that there would still be something he could try.
For now he was just grateful that he had the foresight to get Kelly far enough away from the cabin before Jack was born. He knew that she wouldn’t survive the birth. He knew that it was likely going to alert every angel, demon, and curious moron in creation, but he still wasn’t prepared for what occurred. The power blast….atomized her and tore apart tons of trees in the wooded area. He couldn’t imagine what the sight was that Sam saw on the news.
The tiny fist pounding into his collarbone finally snapped Cas out of his thoughts. Tilting his head down, he saw Jack’s big blue eyes intently staring into him. “We’re safe,” Cas whispered. He kissed the top of Jack’s head. “Everything’s fine.”
Cas went back to the counter and retrieved his phone. He brought Jack into the living room and they sat in the rocking chair by the window. The moment Jack caught a glimpse of a bird flying by, he was entranced by the window. Cas hung onto him with one hand while he stared at his phone.
There were still messages to read. He opened Dean’s: Where ARE you?
We’re not gonna do anything to the kid, okay? Removing their grace was just an idea.
I DO get it. You know that right?
The ship has sailed stopping the kid from being born. We’re not gonna let anyone go Old Testament on the kid. Besides the bunker has more than enough warding.
We’ll figure something out.
PpiECE o f shit. PICCJ UPP
What did Satan jr do? Tear down the nearest cell tower?
Come on Cas.
Are you even getting any of these?
Call me back NOW.
We’re not dead in case you care.
WHAT HAPPENED?
It looks like a bomb went off. That’s what the news is calling it.
I know you’re not dead. You’re too damn stubborn to die in a blast like that.
Cas.
It took several deep breaths before Cas felt calmer. Knowing Dean, any of that could have been worse. He scrolled back up through the messages again, trying to piece together the timeline of each one. We’re not dead in case you care. That one in particular concerned him most.
Cas ruffled Jack’s sandy brown hair. Jack leaned back and stared up at him making a couple happy noises. He looked back at the phone again. Dean could hate him for the rest of his life and that would be okay, because that meant he was safe enough to live that long. And Castiel could live with that.
He listened to the voice mails next: Cas, buddy, I…...I don’t want to be having this conversation like this. Those British assholes started killing us...the hunters. Everyone we know is fine….as far as I know. But….Cas, I really need to know that they didn’t get you. There was a long pause where Cas assumed the message was over. He held onto Jack tighter. Cas….they trapped Sammy and me in the bunker. Sealed us in...to suffocate. There was another pause, and Cas felt cold. He knew they were fine. They sent messages after this voice mail was made. He felt like he was the one suffocating. I’m sorry.
The next one started on it’s own before Cas could even try to pull himself together. You don’t get to do this. You’re either laying low in hiding right now or you’re in pieces from whatever happened in that blast zone. Did you ever stop to think ho- Cas felt himself lean forward, wondering where the thought was going before Dean cut himself off. He strained to pick up any sound, but there was only silence. Come on, man. Pick up your damn phone. Pick up any phone. And that was it.
Cas felt like he was being held together by one frayed thread. The part of him choking on guilt was begging it to snap, but the baby lightly kicking the heels of his feet into Cas’ thighs gave him enough reason to keep moving forward. He had more responsibilities and worth now than being the Winchester’s bulwark. Castiel hoped that one day they would understand that.
“Okay, Jack.” His voice came out strained while he turned Jack around to look at him easier. He cleared his throat before continuing. “I can’t put off making that phone call anymore. Wish me luck.”
Jack’s big blue eyes stared at him intently.
“Your wish is received. Loud and clear,” Cas said getting up and crossing the room to Jack’s playpen. It was made of rainbow pastel colored panels with star decorations. He placed Jack down in the safety of the pen, and then Jack immediately latched onto the foot of a plush lion doll.
Cas went back into the kitchen. He paced the room, again and again. The whole time his eyes were glued on the name in his contact list. Finally, he tapped the name and the line started ringing. Cas held his breath, worried that he was only going to make things worse.
It rang, and rang, and rang. And then, “Castiel?”
“Hello, Claire.”

Shapeshifter Au 6
Heads up at the top this one is our “Last Wish Special”. It’s extra long and what should be no surprise to anyone- Jaskier does not have a good time! Please take care of yourselves as we move into plot territory.
Part 1 Part 5 Inspired by @spielzeugkaiser art here And Also now on Ao3 cause that’s probably easier for everyone.
Sometimes, when Geralt got hurt, he’d use his shapes against him.
Help was the word he’d use. To help him. But if Geralt preferred to think of him using his shapes against him then so be it.
“Get off me Jaskier.”
He looked down his snout at Geralt and grumbled his reply before returning to his composing. They would at very least wait until the bleeding stopped to ride back. Since Geralt insisted the injuries were not so grievous as to require proper attention.
He might very well have been right about that. Which meant they could afford to wait for it to stop before returning for the reward.
If Geralt wanted to treat his wounds then he’d let him. But he wasn’t going to let him ride off and make everything worse because he was a stubborn ass. That was Jaskier’s job. Being a stubborn ass. Not that he made a habit of being farm animals. The risk it would sour him to the taste of their meat was far too great. He refused to be vegetarian. Grass just did not taste very good. No matter what Roach claimed.
“Jaskier get off me or I will throw you off.”
He shifted more of his near 400 pound weight onto Geralt’s torso to demonstrate exactly what he thought about that.
“I can.” He growled.
He puffed up his fur telling him exactly what would happen if he tried.
He had bigger forms yet. If that’s how he wanted to play- well. He wouldn’t bet on Geralt winning. Witcher enhancements be damned.
Geralt, seemingly having realized this, ceased his struggling and ventured a new tactic.
Insulting him.
Which got him grumbling and growling at Geralt. But didn’t get him off him. Geralt knew well enough what he was saying. He didn’t need to transform to express his displeasure.
Geralt, a versatile and clever man, switch tactics yet again.
Reciting history facts but slightly wrong- the year was 1123 and he was a duke not a prince Geralt- asking questions about agriculture – cereal crops deplete the soil of nitrogen. Legumes fix this. A fallow field is left for weeds and grazing. The three fields are rotated. Together this system allows farmers to plant more crops and increase production. – and finally just asking him to play for him.
He, personally, admitted that his bear vocals left something to be desired but he didn’t let that stop him from belting out a few heavily modified versions of his favorite tunes.
Geralt covered his ears and glared at him.
It was only after three verses of Fishmonger’s daughter that he finally popped down into his human shape to do the finale justice.
Geralt shoved him off breaking his sustained note.
“Rude.” He squawked from the dirt as Geralt stood.
“I stopped bleeding three songs ago!” He growled at him.
“I’m well aware.” He grinned. “But I do so enjoy a captive audience.”
Geralt threw the bedroll at his head. Which did hit him. But he managed to catch it on the rebound, which counted as a win in his books.
“I don’t need you mothering me bard.”
“Is that what you think this is? I’m trying to keep Nenneke from murdering me next time you need her services. The woman terrifies me Geralt.”
She did. A little. Not in the way he suspected she expected to be feared though.
It was because her eyes always held too many questions about why he’d arrived before Geralt, knowing exactly the condition of the man’s wounds, even though he lacked a horse while Geralt road in on Roach.
He’d fly ahead, unhampered by the twisting of the roads, and set them to prepare for Geralt’s arrival. Or, when the situation was far graver, have them send a cart to meet him. Transforming on the road just outside of the temples view.
His skin itched when she stared at him too long. Like she almost knew what he was and if she watched him closely enough she might figure it out.
Luckily, “I mean the woman already hates me Geralt.” She was easy to annoy into not looking closely. “No need to worsen her to me by damaging the one reason she even tolerates my presence at the temple.”
If all she wanted to see was an airheaded flop of a bard that was all he would show her. Staying within the confines of expectations worked well enough to keep people from digging.
“She does hate you.” Geralt agreed with a smirk. Pleased he’d befriended someone Jaskier had not.
“Naaaah deep down she likes me.”
Geralt bobbed his head, half conceding the point.
People were complicated like that. She hated Most of him. But she liked that he cared about Geralt. Even if she didn’t always agree with how he cared about Geralt.
With how they cared for each other.
So maybe he shouldn’t have poked the insomniatic bear that was Geralt as he dredged up the lake at Rinde. But he was a bear often enough and he didn’t mind being poked. Sometimes Geralt needed to buck up and face his problems head on!
Then his throat started closing.
Which was scary. Sure. But there were plenty of forms that didn’t need his throat to breath. He’d play catfish or pike or bream or – he was just listing fish again- something while Geralt sorted out the curse the djinn smacked him with.
Except.
Except none of them would come.
He tried to shift bigger and his skin pulled too tight like it was yanking away from the muscle and he tried to shift down and his organs compressed in his chest. And he was left folded over in pain from his throat and his lungs and from being trapped.
Trapped in one form. Perhaps forever.
“Can you shift?” Geralt asked him, looking between him and Roach. Debating.
He managed a ragged sob that Geralt translated as the ‘no’ it was.
There was the bumpy ride on Roach- poor girl they weighed far too much together- and the elf with the painkillers – which helped a little. But the world continued its painful descent into darkness.
Geralt was scruffing him by the doublet. Dragging his limp form. Somewhere. He liked being scruffed. It reminded him of the old mouser in the kitchen who’d claimed him as kin when he was barely a boy. Whenever he got in trouble, or was lonely, or scared he’d just run to the old tom and pop down into a kitten. Instantly be scruffed and pulled under the cabinet for a bath and cuddle.
Scruffing meant that soon everything would be okay. He was in pain and terrified but soon. Soon everything would be alright.
Everything was not alright.
There was a very scary woman with an amphora on her belly and-
And she was a mage.
A powerful mage.
Something in him was singing. Singing at her notice. Her attention.
He didn’t much like that part of him.
His knees near buckled under him as she gripped his nethers and pressed a knife to his throat.
“If you want to keep all you have familiar,” She squeezed him tighter. The singing and terror crescendo-ing in his ears. What do you want me to be? It sung, heart racing in his chest. “Make a damn wish.”
He reached. Reached for. Something. Some shape that would get her away. Small or big or cute or monsterous or something.
Her magic threw him to the floor and it crackled over his skin- she wants you to be human so that is what you shall be – lighting up every nerve with delicious power – do as she says. So that the powerful one might keep you – and burning the tapestry of thread he didn’t know was woven underneath his skin.
“Make your damn wish! Do it now!”
This one is better. Powerful. Be what she wants. “I don’t- I don’t know!” Lightning ran through his veins and fire blazed through his chest and- and- Be her’s. Wish to be hers. Exalted one.
He didn’t want that.
“I wish very much to leave this place forever!”
She turned from him, the burning fading. The singing loud in his ears. Scolding, screaming, begging him to go back to her as he scrambled from the building.
And Geralt was there.
Geralt was alive.
Geralt left him to that witch.
“Jaskier. You’re okay.”
“I’m glad to hear that you give a monkey’s about it.” He fumed.
The singing was quieter now. The smoldering in his chest easing next to Geralt-
Geralt was going back inside.
The building collapsing.
“She could not have survived it.” The elf from earlier- Chireadan- said.
There was coldness in the shape of the lightning flowing through his veins. Ashes in the stitching of his soul where Geralt once resided.
“Why did Geralt go in there? It doesn’t make any sense. What, to save a mad fucking witch?”
“Because she was magnificent.”
She was. The song wept.
His knees hit the ground, the pain of the gravel collision distant, over the shapeless void that pulled him to nothing.
“What am I supposed to do now, hm?” What would be left when this form collapsed into the emptiness in his chest? “It wasn’t supposed to go this way.”
You should have died with him.
No.
“I’m gonna write you. The best song. So that everyone remembers who you were, what we did, everything we saw.” There was a lifetime there. In the spaces they shared. Not a human lifespan perhaps. But it wasn’t like he was human anyway. “And I will sing it. For the rest of my days.”
“He always said I had the most wonderful singing voice.”
A joke. Between him and a dead man.
If he wanted to correct him he should have stayed alive.
Chireadan knelt before him, laying a hand on his shoulder. A tiny beat of comfort in a symphony of pain.
“They’re alive.”
They were very alive.
He ran his fingers down Roach’s neck, unsure how he was supposed to feel.
Relief that Geralt was alive? Jealously that he’d gone to Yennefer? Jealously she choose him over you?
Anger?
Joy?
Hollow. He felt hollow.
Roach nudged him.
He was nearly draped over her.
He wanted that old tom cat to scruff him and pull him under the cabinet. To lick and squish and purr him back to whole.
What would he be if he shifted now?
Nothing. It called to him that nothing.
Nothing wasn’t a shape. Nothing wasn’t Jaskier. Jaskier wasn’t nothing.
Still it called to him.
Roach lipped at a saddlebag. The one he’d nested in as his wing healed.
He shoved his bloody shirt in as a makeshift nest and fluttered in.
If Geralt wanted his peace he could dump him on the side of the road.
Until then. He breathed in the way the leather bag blended Roach and Geralt into itself and fell asleep.
He drifted back to the shores of sleep welcomed by the gentlest smoothing of his feathers.
He readjusted, further nesting into the callouses of Geralt’s hand.
“I thought.” The pain in Geralt’s hesitating voice forced his eyes open. “That the djinn took your voice and your shifting from you.”
Geralt was laying down on their bedroll watching him with those big sad eyes. Which hurt.
But not as much as the fact Geralt had stopped petting him. He shifted into Geralt’s petting hand demanding he get back to work with a sharp chirp.
Geralt resumed his gentle stroking, lips twitching slightly upward. “So bossy.” He complained.
They laid there as the sun went down; quiet and exhausted.
“We used to do this a lot. When your wing was broken. It was nice.”
He softly trilled an agreement.
“I could smell you on Roach when I got back you know? I thought you had left. I understand if you’d left. After what I did.”
He blinked tiredly at Geralt before standing to shift up. He didn’t want to have this conversation now but if Geralt did then. Well then they’d have it now.
“Don’t.” Geralt’s hands shifted slightly, like they were caging him in. They weren’t. He knew he could get out. Knew that if he wanted to leave Geralt would let him.
He settled back into Geralt’s fingers, more than happy not to.
“Tonight. Can we be that again? Just for tonight.”
Be simple. Be easy.
Nenneke always scolded Geralt for thinking he could deny destiny. Because she cared about him and knew destiny would have her way, willingly or not. It would he agreed. Geralt couldn’t run away from her forever.
But he did help him run away from it. Sometimes. Like tonight?
Tonight destiny could go fuck itself.
Tonight they were just a bird and a man sharing each other’s company.
Tonight they were easy.

And When He Smiles I Swear I Can’t Breathe
Alan Rubin x fem!Reader
Word count: 1,996
Fandom: Blues Brothers
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the Blues Brothers characters or movies. This refers to Alan Rubin as a character in the movie, not the real Alan (although he obvsly played himself but you know what I mean)
I’d like to add that I made everyone of the band a few years younger (so the age gap between the reader and Alan isn’t that big), so he’s approx. in his early 30s.
Sophia & Lisa are two OCs created by two lovely people within the fandom.
Warnings: swearing, mentions of violence, COs having some kind of breakdown
So the next two chapters are gonna be somewhat of a bumpy ride for Charlotte. Just please stay and bear with me until the end of chapter 4, when the magic starts happening. Xx
Chapter III
The next morning Charlotte was having breakfast with her family. “I didn’t hear you coming home last night.” Her dad gave her a harsh look. “Well, yes it got pretty late. I fell asleep during the last movie and the girls felt so sorry for me they didn’t wanna wake me up!” She laughed, trying to lighten up the mood but her father just starred at her emotionless. “I’m sorry, dad. I promise it won’t happen again.”, she added in a apologising tone, which seemed to soothe him. “What films did you watch?”, her sister asked curiously. Charlotte looked at her with big eyes. What the hell? She knew her sister asked that without any ulterior motive, it was just her way but still… “You know, those classic ones. Halloween and some romcom in the end to lift everyone’s spirits.”
“Was it worth watching?” Oh for crying out loud! Thankfully the phone starting ringing, Charlotte’s mother picked it up. “Hello, Sylvia Ellington speaking.... Hun, it’s for you, it’s Lisa!” The girl quickly jumped to her feet. “May I take it in my room, please?” Her mother looked at her husband and gave her daughter a quick nod. In her room Charlotte took the phone to sit on her bed. “Lisa?” “Hiya!” “How was your evening with Lou? Did you…?” “Naah, we didn’t. But it was lovely seeing him again, I missed him so much. He’s just so shy sometimes. I mean I love that about him, I just wish he’d take the initiative more often.” “I’m sure he will eventually. It was your third date after all. Take it as a compliment that he ain’t rushing things and wants you both to be ready.” “I hope you’re right. Sooo…? You and Alan? I saw you two leave…?” “Yeah, yeah stop it right there. He took me home like a gentleman.” “BORING! Nah, I’m just kidding.” Charlotte sighed. “You know, I like him but I don’t know anything about him. Is he single or seeing anyone? Perhaps he was just trying to be friendly, taking the opportunity for a nice drink. No more, no less.” “Just ask him out on a date, pretty sure his reaction will tell.” “And what if he’s interested in a casual hook-up only? I don’t wanna make a fool out of myself.” “I’m afraid you won’t know if you don’t try.” “Hmm.. But I know someone who DOES know! Lou! I’m sure he knows what’s going on in Alan’s life, you always told me there were close.” “Yeah but.. I don’t know. It would feel strange asking Lou about Alan for you.” Both girls were silent for a moment. “Wait, I’ve got an idea.” Lisa said excitedly. “I’m meeting Lou in his lunch break at the cafe tomorrow noon. You could accidentally bump into us and join us.” Charlotte giggled. “Sounds perfect. I see you then!”
The next day Lisa opened the door to the small Soul Food Café on Maxwell Street and greeted the waitress with a warm smile. “Hi Mrs. Murphy!” “Hello sugar, nice to see you again.” Lisa sticked her head in the kitchen. “Hey Lou!” He looked up from the dishes and his face lighted up the moment he saw his girl. “Give me a minute, babe. Right with you.” Lisa smiled and chose a table at the window. She ordered Lou’s and her favourite dish and watched him as he left the kitchen. He quickly pulled off his hair net and gave her a kiss before sitting down. “Food’s already on it’s way.” He grabbed her hand and caressed it with his thumb. “I’m so happy to be back after our tour. I love performing with the boys but I felt sorry for leaving you so early in our relationship.” He softly brushed a strain out of her face when he got interrupted by someone banging against the window. Charlotte. She quickly walked inside. “Oh my God what are you two doing here?” “Well for starters, I work here.” “Would you like to join us, Charlie?” “Sure, why not, thanks. How are you two doing?” “Good thanks, we were about to have lunch.” The tall, handsome man said. The girls gave each other a look, without saying a word. Lou’s eyes wandered from one girl to the other and back again. “You two are terrible actors, you know that.” And he started to laugh. “Why are you here, Charlotte?” “I’m sorry, Lou. It’s because of Alan. I had a lovely time with him the other night and was wondering, is he dating anyone recently?” “Hard to tell, really. I mean with us touring in the last couple of months, it was difficult for all of us to meet anyone at all. I know that he used to see a woman named Lari. They also met a few times when we where on tour. Think she owns her own business, forcing her to travel quite a lot through the states.” “Are they… dating? I mean is it anything serious?” “I don’t even know if they still see each other.” “So nothing serious?” Charlotte kept pestering him. Lou sighed. “Listen, Alan’s one of my best mates but you should know that he’s quite popular with the ladies. Even I can see how good looking he is. Every concert he had some other woman showing up for him backstage and I can’t remember the last time he was in a serious commitment.” He could see the disappointment and sadness in Charlotte’s face and felt sorry for her. “But you’ll never know. Perhaps when the right one crosses his way.” “I heard you, Lou. but thanks for the effort to cheer me up.” She quickly got up from her seat “Really sorry for spoiling your little date.” And with that she left the cafe, Lisa running after her. “Charlie wait, please!” She finally had caught up with her. “I’m sorry Lou didn’t tell you what you’ve wanted to hear.” “It doesn’t matter okay? I don’t even know why I got my hopes up in the first place, we had a drink, that’s all.” Lisa looked at her friend with compassion in her eyes, grabbing on of Charlotte’s hands. “I guess, Alan’s been the first one who showed any interest in me for quite some time and it felt nice.” She looked down at her hands, fiddling around. “Honey I’m sure someone will come along eventually.” “Right, and as soon as the meet my dad they’ll keep running away.” “Don’t you think it’s time to move out? Sophia got her own place, too.” “I already told you, I can’t. It’s complicated. I don’t expect you to understand.” She freed herself from Lisa hand and started walking down the street. “Charlotte!” But she started to walk faster until she ran, disappearing in the crowd on the streets. Lisa went back inside the cafe and sat next to Lou, who softly put his arm around his girl. “I’m sorry for what I’ve said, I didn’t think she’d take it so hard.” She gave him a quick snog on his cheek, reassuring him that her friend would be okay, though she couldn’t stop thinking about her and how hurt she was.
Charlotte got home around dinner time and found her mother in the kitchen preparing food. “Mum?” She leaned against the worktop, resting on her elbows. “I’m thinking about moving out.” Her mother dropped the knife and looked at her concerned. “This again? Don’t let your father hear about your ideas.” “What ideas?” The two women were startled and turned their back to face Charlotte’s father, who had gotten back from work. “I still wanna get my own place, dad!” “I thought we’ve talked about this way too often, Charlotte.” “But I’m old enough, I could get a job and pay for the rent of a little room myself.” She watched him pouring a glass of whiskey and taking a sip. “Dad?!” He crashed the glass down onto the table. “This still ins’t open for discussion! As long as I’m paying for your education, you stay where I can keep an eye on you!” He said angry. “No one’s asking you to pay.”, Charlotte mumbled away and was about to leave the room. “What did you just say?” “Nothing!… Right so perhaps I don’t wanna study law.” “Don’t you forget that your mother and I had to go through a lot of trouble to get you that college place, considering your poor grades.” He walked towards her with big steps, shaking his finger at her. “Well, would have been nice if you had asked me before.” “Do you even listen to what you’re saying?! Have we left our manners at the door once more?” He was furious and discounted his glass from the kitchen table in one motion. Charlotte hated seeing him like this and it was one of those moments when she had to decide whether to retreat, displaying her fear of him or stand her ground, and for the first time ever she decided for the letter. When her father got closer, she could feel her knees began to buckle, she was trembling. Suddenly he grabbed her throat, pushing her head up and forcing her to look at him. “Once in your poor, miserable life you got the chance to do something useful with it. And we’re sticking it up your erse. Show some fuckin gratitude. If it wasn’t for you mother you wouldn’t even be standing here!” He yelled at his daughter wrathful and she felt his spit on her face. She knew what he meant by that. She knew that her father didn’t want her, when her mom, his girlfriend at that time, told him she was pregnant with his kid. “And clean up this mess! Your mother doesn’t have to do everything around here.” He added before he left hold of her and stormed out.
As it got dark Charlotte checked on her parents in the living room, both had fallen asleep in their armchairs. She left the house for a walk, which would hopefully get her mind off her toxic parents. She wasn’t living far away form Chicago city, so eventually she bought herself a beer at some street shop and set down on the pavement between two parked cars, hugging her knees. I will be stuck with them until I’ve finished college. If I finish at all. If he doesn’t care for me why doesn’t he let me go. It wasn’t the first time that night when she thought about just leaving, running away from her family.
And then she heard it. His laugh. His warm and soft giggle. She looked up but couldn’t see no one. There it was again. And then she saw him. He was walking on the other side of the road. A lady at his side, one arm tugged into him. She was absolutely gorgeous, tall, long, straight blond hair, wearing heels, a mini skirt underlining her stunning long legs and as it seemed his jacket hang over her shoulders. They both were laughing and smiling at each other. And Charlotte felt a deep, sharp pain in her heart. She was purely crushed seeing him with another woman. And before she knew it they were out of her sight, disappearing behind some cars.
She laid her head on her arms, squinting her bleary eyes. She wasn’t angry with him. But with herself. Disappointed she had left him into her heart so early, without knowing so less of him. And she felt stupid, like a teenager for getting her hopes up only because she liked him, only because he was nice to her. She felt stupid for believing a man like him could be interested in someone like her, when he could be with an actor or a model, literally anyone. And a single tear ran down her cheek before she started weeping into her arms, trying to wash away the entire day.
