SPOILERS FOR TF ONE. PLEASE DO NOT CLICK READ MORE IF YOU DO NOT WANT SPOILERS. ALSO TF ONE WAS GOOD.

disclaimer: i dont have good memory and for that there is likely some inaccuracy to what i claim, wrong terms, etc. also very out of order but i enjoy rambling

somewhat intentionally vague things i liked about the movie 1. the music was swell -the score as to when the main group was on the surface was cool, when they were going between diff. environments

-the ending scene with Optimus being granted the Matrix had a very fitting background score. + also was surprising fitting with the execution of Sentinel Prime that was also occurring atm

-I am not knowledgeable about music, but I assume synths were used a lot, and they were lovely........

2. The animation for high action scenes -was soooooo amazing! in particular There was a lot of creative liberty taken with how the bots would transform parts of their body to fight. Which had shone in Elita's fighting andd i am unsure beyond that. Airachnid's fighting, using her legs to spin and shred and stab aggressively was great too

also I'm biased towards like. them ripping parts off eachother i.e. the fight between Armada Megatron and Optimus is a good exemplar of this. all the greater to see that again in the fight between TF ONE MegOp in their third forms aaaaaaaaa. Seeing Optimus rip Megatron's tank cannon off, almost oxidize his metal by burning it to shit, and so on, that is WONDERFUL. I cannot recall what Megatron did though of course it involved him trying to explode Optimus' face

-not a fight scene but actiony, the Mecha gore of taut wires just wrenched apart w/ the splitting of Sentinel Prime's torso was delectable ha-ha

3. few minor details

-seeing D-16 wipe the dust off of Orion yayy

-Orion (remember from their first meeting!!!!) knows D-16 is a huge fan of Megatronus and so for him to get that sticker, for him, was very cute and loving of him. what a friend. only made it as horrible to see that sticker used to demean and punish D-16 by Sentinel Prime

-the stylization of optics is LOVELY. their repeating shape of iris is great. the different eyes across the characters = great. the fact that they spin around during high times of emotion is sooooooo -------! great. i loved seeing this in D-16, when Sentinel Prime's treachery was revealed! his optics spun very much which i inference as emotional

the eyelid for optics is not a traditional blink, like a whole eye covering shutter. it looked very unique and complex, and you could really observe the design of it in that close up shot of Elita waking up and i found it very nice

-the way post t-cog Orion Pax leaned down to be on equal height / level / eye contact with his fellow mining buddies was a good display of character. showed his genuine heartfelt intent in connecting with them, helps to trust in the incoming truth! just because he has a t-cog now does not mean he will carry himself as if he were greater than them

4. Sentinel prime was cool

-his con-man shtick and unadulterated "I want power" was refreshing and is further bettered if you take into account his status as an Autobot and previous prime. there should be eviler Autobots in the movies

-i dont understand why he has TFP inspired characters as lackeys but fun

-nod to Bayverse Sentinel Prime with his choice of weapon is good

5. Alpha Trion

It was unexpected to see him have an alt mode that was animal-like. i loved it. he is normally a character i dont think much of in terms of any continuity, so it was nice to see him shined on in that brief time

6. models

-the models for the dilapidated figures of the 13 Primes were soooo goood i am in love with them. i am a big fan of the Transformers, as strong and terrifying as they are, painted so frail and weak when left to the sands of time. the overgrowth, the missing parts of their body. the vines. the moss. Delicious !

-i appreciate that they bothered to model t-cog transformations for background characters at the end, even if they wouldn't have been on the screen that long for TF ONE ^_^ although ofc that may be because they'll be reused in the (hopeful) later movies. im going to say that last sentence a lot. their new forms are also crumbs for fans of those characters

7. that one place the main team encountered on the surface?

-so, there is that portion of the movie where they are trying to get to the coordinates of the matrix. but a Quintesson ship appears

maybe i am being delusional but the area reminded me a bit of the Sea of Rust level in CH 4 of Transformers: Fall of Cybertron so that was pleasant

8++++++.

There are tons of other things in TF ONE that I think were great!!!!! I would go on too long to mention them all. Now here is stuff I think would be better.

-more screentime for the Decepticons would have been nice. yet i presume in the later movies in the trilogy that this will be touched on. given that we GET a trilogy

the high command did not get to do much ( i am bitter that Starscream did pretty much nothing out of this group)

-wish there was furthered display of Cybertronian culture? Say like being taken into a scene where we get to view the exterior and interior of a flying bot's home, or any other type of home. anything. see a higher-caste bot's berth? do they all sleep upright?????! fun

as well as food :] was interesting to see Alpha Trion get fed that little cube of energon, or Orion crashing into that establishment into a pile of energon. but what about if they process energon into any other form? if they drink oil? etc? awww? if they take showers????? idk

itd be funny to see D-16/Orion go to a party lol

-more environments beyond the few on the surface and more plants, animals

-i don't prefer Steve Buscemi's voice for Starscream. i mean, in the credits they had Steve Blum? but he voiced minor characters?? ....bummed they did not ask him to voice ......oh...

-the action of the scenes i praised earlier. however thinking about it again, there is slightly too much going on, too many sparks, too much blur, maybe that is just me, it is hard to parse what is going on during fight scenes sometimes. a little more clarity would be amazing. but again i still loved it and was very excited as i was viewing and didnt care too much

Overall. it is a lot to expect so i understand they couldnt touch on all of this! just a far dream of themes I'll have to collect into a ball from the other outputs of the franchise. I thought it was a pretty good movie in comparison to all preexisting Transformers movies and would pick it over those any day. sorry 1986

i recently met someone from michigan and mentioned the postcard you sent me and we got talking about the state and you have full sand dunes at those lakes?? that sounds so cool have you ever been to them? or are there any other nice places at those lakes that you like?

yes sleeping bear dunes!!! my dad proposed to my mom there :3 it's one of our national lakeshores and i'm told its very pretty but i haven't been able to go myself. the lakes in general are so pretty and i mean. you know vaguely where i live based on the postcard and i am so biased towards that region but we have soooooo many beautiful beaches.

also all of the lakes have circle tours you can do on your own or with a group that takes you through different cities and sites to see on them. i havent completed a tour before but i've been to several different stops on them including the thunder bay shipwreck sanctuary where they do glass bottom boat tours of the shipwrecks in the area! i hear they do them up in munising as well on lake superior.

also because i am a lighthouse nerd who specializes in michigan lighthouses: michigan has 129 state recognized lighthouses and 109 of them have stamps you can collect in a lighthouse society passport! michigan also has the tallest lighthouse on the great lakes, white shoal, which stands at 121 feet tall. it's currently my homescreen on my phone lol. i've gotten 20 stamps so far and am hoping to expand my collection next year with more lights.

I am torn between 2 options for tld & bryns wedding. On one hand I can see them both as the kind of people who know that neither of them likes anything fancy so they dont dress up at all, just come in either plain clothes or just their thieves guild wear and then afterwards are like "I love you so much thanks for knowing that I didn't want anything fancy" "Oh no problem you know I'm the exact same way. That's one of the reasons why we go together so well."

On the other hand tho, neither bryn or tld ever really dress up, like, ever, and I think it would be super duper sweet if they both surprise each other by arriving to the temple dressed up all fancy in, like, real wedding attire. The adorable first reactions (and maybe even some tears) would just be soooooo sweet.

I can see either one happening though, they both fit and are great.

These are both so good and honestly just the idea of them understanding each other this well gets my ass. But I've always been biased toward the second option purely because it's the only occasion I can rationally write that includes bryn out of his armor. also i don't think i'm capable of writing how funny it would be if they specifically took a job together in solitude so they could get fitted for wedding attire at Radiant Raiment together.

Like tld and bryn falling in love with each other during the mundane, everyday tasks of working together. Growing closer until they know the other better than they know themselves. The shock of seeing each other in something that's not Thieves Guild armor or pajamas that leaves them both teary eyed. Bryn spinning his partner around just to see their outfit twirl with them. After the ceremony undressing each other for horny reasons but also to find all the daggers and lockpicks they'd hidden in their outfits.

Idk there's just something special about neither of these characters seeing a future for themselves then finding it in each other. Learning that there are still big, exciting things that will happen purely because they love each other so much. There's more things to look forward to - weddings, anniversaries, big celebrations and boring days at home because they found each other.

1) V, hands down, no question. Like a lot of people, i got into kpop through BTS. I watched the dynamite MV as a sad, sad college student in 2020, saw him with his lovely honey blond hair and green suit, and was gone.

2) Taemin. I'm honestly not really *attached* to either him or Hoshi, but I'm genuinely so fond of SHINee and I love his solo work so much.

It’s been long since I last wrote I am writing this right now as I am tired of many things I mean I am not allowed to do things I like… I mean there is a park next to my tuition and I am not even allowed to go there after my class is over like seriously 😒 I don’t do drugs nor it’s like I’ll be meeting my bf there I am there for a little relaxation but no I am not allowed to do so…after that I still remember that day when I made a mistake and I was punished but giving silent treatment for days where as if my brother do something it’s well and good after that my brother is allude to go out alone do whatever he wants and all those things are covered up by saying “ he is a boy and boys are like that. U are the one to compromise”and this statement is justified/covered by saying that “you are the oldest and u are the most understanding one so u understand the situations”… like what I am just a kid nothing more since he was born I needed to give up on everything means everything…I used to be a spoiled brat who used to get what she want’s but after he was born I gave up on things I minimised all my demands and stared to go with what ever I had rather than asking for more…I did everything I can to keep everyone at ease especially my mother but see the result of my hardship that I put in when I was handling my brother, when I was teaching him, when I did his projects , when I saved him for getting in trouble, when I was called in school and was been scolded for the thing he did I am done… I am tiered of pretending..pretending to be happy..pretending to be fine…pretending that nothing happened and nothing bothers me I am just too tiered to pretend…I got the point that I understand u that doesn’t mean that U will stop understanding me…my parents keep my brother with love and care where as I was not if my brother gets angry than my mom or dad comforts him make him calm down do or make what ever he likes where as I am not allowed to even be angry..I can’t say that I am frustrated or angry about anything…if I did then I’ll rather got a scolding or lecture or this that “it’s just a phase u have to go through it”…fine I get that it’s just a phere but I have feelings too..oh sorry I don’t have cause I killed them already..my parents are soooooo biased towards my brother that even if he do something wrong they will forgive him but if I do even a minute mistake I get punished for that…they love him like anything and it sometimes feel like they are just pretending to love me…I mean I can’t tell my parents about anything cause if I tell my mom she will never agreed with me no Matter happens..and if I tell dad he will just listen to me and answer in ‘hmm’, ‘hai’

i just beat Retro City Rampage DX

if grand theft auto was good

im not fucking around. sincerely, i had infinitely more fun with this game that with gta5. first of all, the story: every time a character in gta 5 spoke i liked them less. i care about none of the people the story focuses on, and the poison levels of caustic south park assholery just suck all of the enjoyment out of the serious crime drama. even then, the game feels stuck between being an irreverent self-parody and a serious crime drama. retro city rampage just chooses one thing to be and does it successfully. sure, im not the target demographic of the Ready Player One nerdy 80s references, but i can respect picking a fucking lane. also, unlike gta5, i never felt the need to skip a cutscene! trevor and michael gave me a fucking migrane after a few hours, but RCR just uses silly skits to introduce the next gameplay setpiece. it feels WAY more congruent with the vibe of a chaotic sandbox, its quick its entertaining and it doesnt ruin anything, its fucking congruent.

a lot of this is thanks to the scope of RCR as an indie game. every time gta5 introduced something new, like the stupid app you need to pick up dog poop or that shallow buisness-purchasing mechanic, it just felt like it was a corporate mandate to make the game more "Triple A" whatever that means. since RCR doesnt have the bloated expectations of an industry breathing down its neck, it can just be a video game. like, the driving sections between gta5 missions are drawn out and waste player time for no reason, because the map is soooooo big and cinematic and its really big and graphics cool big gigabyte. RCR just has a city big enough to be a fun sandbox.

gta5 and RCR both use missions to introduce things you can do in the world, but the later's sillier tone lets the missions be more interesting, less grounded, and feel like one mission isnt less relevant than another. when (i had to google his name) franklin starts a story mission with seven minutes of strip club gameplay, im annoyed because i want to get this drive over with so i can see if this next mission is another repetitive shootout. when Player, the actual name of the character in RCR, has to take shifts from the grim reaper for a few minutes to come back from the dead after being killed by his babymama, im on board for the cartoon shenanigans. this is the importance of tone and cohesion, and just plain 'ol gameplay variety

this game like, made me realize why people like gta. theres a lot of fun in just fucking around and cause chaos, but the missions and story mode give you a direction to point the destruction in. i think the biggest thing turning me off from gta was just how... much it was. its like a demanding, greedy child. RCR feels more like its just a buddy that wants to have a good time.

i dunno, im worried im not articulating myself well enough here. maybe im just biased towards indie games? i mean, i definitely am, but i just feel like AAA games are way more likely to preoccupy themselves with things other than making the game more engaging and enjoyable until they collapse under their own weight. meanwhile, RCR has a a reasonable scope, a concise and pointed direction, and more than anything a respect for the player's time and enjoyment.

so yeah, i totally recommend this game! it goes on sale for like, 4 bucks canadian, so its probably even cheaper with real money. if the reference humour isnt your thing theres the gameplay, and youll know if you like the gameplay after >2 hours in the sandbox.

Why do you think people hate Dan and Blair so much? Personally, it is hard for me to understand since I find them quite charming. I understand biases towards ch*ir, but I don't understand why there is such a polarizing effect that takes place with Dair. Do you think that people just clash over the ~vibes~ of the couples, or do you think it has something to do with the stigma around "boring, healthy" relationships presented in media?

do people hate Dan and Blair so much? tbh I am so in the happy little fandom bubble I have cultivated for myself that I clock none of the negativity. and the small amount I have received in my inbox I deleted. and it never came back *knocks on wood* soooooo I haven't seen the polarization you mentioned, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist! I just don't think I have the context to comment on it.

if I had to make an assumption, I would venture a guess that it has something to do with that 2000s teen-soap effect, where the pairings presented at the onset of the show are essentially...the Thesis of the show, and that the attachment to those "fated" romantic arcs makes them take precedence above all else. idk if I'm articulating this well, but there is this feeling that I get from some teen media from that era, this The First Love is The Last Love and That's the Way It Has to Be, and if anything gets in the way of that, it's a lie, and bad, and should not be allowed to last. Dair was a pairing that was almost...built for another show, if that makes sense, one with a different genre, that had different goals of storytelling. I'm going to link this ask that I answered a few months ago for a little more context too.

I think in any media with multiple potential romantic relationships between characters, people will always disagree over what couples they think are right for multiple different reasons. I've been watching Ted Lasso, for example, and sort of - observing the fandom activity from afar, and it feels like fans have drawn lines in the sand over pairings that haven't even happened yet. And I was/am into Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones, and my tastes in ships run the gamut (and I don't really talk about it on the tumblr bc BOY HOWDY do people have Opinions), and honestly, not everything I'm into in every fandom is a "boring, healthy" relationship. sometimes you want to see some unhinged lovers, yk?

The Amazing Story of Quantum Mechanics - James Kaklios 

Well. The subtitle lied. This is NOT a 'math-free' exploration. But that was obvious going in, largely because Math is the language by which we consolidate descriptors of observable and calculable phenomena. Math isn't magic that controls the universe, it simply reduces the description of what's already happening down to its core components. Like taking all the nebulous adjectives out of a sentence, instead of saying 'this thing is moving quickly', it defines both the thing and the speed its moving relative to what it's moving more quickly than. This book while not genuinely 'math-free' does go to great lengths to elaborate on how math as a concept is really more akin to a very specific, very concrete linguistic construction than it is to a magic number-thingy. The most fascinating aspect of this book, from my perspective as a tech-savvy Millennial who wasn't born in an era before Quantum Mechanics had already become an accepted part of Science to the point that it had trickled out into commercial markets, was the illuminating comment on what schism of understanding left futurist thinkers of sci-fi tech in the 50's & 60's (and even in the 70's & 80's) swinging so wildly off-base in their projections of 21st century tech... While I am still waiting for the hoverboard Back to the Future promised me, I have a much better understanding why such promises seemed plausible back then and yet so impossible now: our future-tech revolution struck the wrong vein of development.

The problem that scientists and futurists were focused on back then was the efficient production, storage, and transfer of Energy. The solution that we found to catapult ourselves into a digital age was one of efficient storage, transfer, and reproduction of Information.

The advent of transistors made power usage slightly more effective, but it changed everything in terms data movement and processing. I'd known that on a logical level, but I hadn't quite realized how focused the previous generation's gaze was on energy-related tech-developments until Kakalios linked aspects of futurist projections to both the cutting edge of 50's science culture, and to the pop-culture creations that came out of each new 50's science revelation. (I always knew it made sense to them, but this IS the generation who flung 3 people at the moon in a gold-covered toaster with less digital processing power than the watch I had in middle school, soooooo... 'sense' has always been something I took with a few hearty grains of salt).

Kakalios breaks everything down into understandable, bite-sized pieces, relates those pieces to both a pop-culture event and a scientific development, explains the math that describes the concept, and creates a coherent, over-arching narrative about how these concepts have both literally built and conceptually inspired our modern world.

Overall, it's an extremely well done, fantastically well researched, and deeply informative pieces of physics non-fiction that was also delightfully entertaining.

Now, I may be biased towards favoring it because I am the super geek that was glued to the History Channel and the Science Channel, watching Michio Kaku and Brian Greene discuss the physics of the impossible and taking viewers on a tour of the universe instead of watching Spongebob (which I STILL don't understand the appeal of) or whatever else was on Nickelodeon, but that doesn't really mean I had too much of a leg up in the science-understanding aspect, here. The thing about Quantum Mechanics, and about math & modern physics in general, is that it's NOT easily observable, relatable stuff. In the same way as being given a random chapter in a book is not really going to illuminate the story for you, even if its a book you've read before, unless you're VERY familiar with the context, you'll need a little help exploring it.

Now, I have read the metaphorical 'Quantum Mechanics book' before, but like only once and way back in high school, so I can be pretty confident in saying that anyone totally unfamiliar with the topic will still get a huge boost of in-depth understanding out of this.

I HIGHLY recommend it!

Kakalios truly presents a FANTASTIC in-roads to this entire realm of study! (And, of course, I also recommend that everyone explore a little of the Quantum Physics realm, simply because of how critically important it is to the making and maintenance of our modern world!)

Disclaimer: I have no idea how any of this works. I’m just going off of the little info I DO know so please bear with me as I try to fill the chapters with what I think (or what I just make up) on how to make an album and the other kpop things.

Today is finally the day where we record our songs for the album. All of them are soooooo good and I'm not just biased because I took part in making it... ok, maybe I am. Recording went pretty smoothly and everyone did well.

"다연아." I was sitting in the waiting area for everyone to finish recording. Kai... Jongin 오빠 walks towards me with a serious face.

"응 오빠?" I say just reading articles about our album predictions on my phone.

"Can I talk to you for a second?" I always get nervous when someone says that... I don't know, it's such an ominous phrase.

"Uhhh, sure." I follow him to the next room and motioned to my manager that I was following Jongin 오빠. "What did you want to say?" I ask, trying not to show my nervousness but also not seem too strict.

"Uhhh... 사실은, 내가 너를-" he takes a deep breathe. "사실은, 내가너를좋아해." He says quickly. Huh?

"Huh? 다시 말해봐요." I say confused.

"내가... 너를... 좋아해." I sit there, in shock.

"Me? YOU-" I point to him. "Like ME?" I point to myself. He nods. I instantly feel bad. "I know that this was really hard for you to say, and I feel really bad but this is a really busy time right now and I don't really have time to think about other things other than the album. I'm sorry. I think it's better that we become good friends and maybe after the album, we can become more." He looks down and nods.

"Kai? We need you to record now." Manager comes in. Kai follows our manager back to the room and I go sit back in the waiting room. What just happened?

"What did you and 종인 talk about?" Baekhyun sits next to me. Should I tell him?

"It was just a favor, nothing you have to worry about." I say. I shouldn't make the situation worse, right? I mean, I trust Baekhyun 오빠 but this is private, right? I don't know.

"Oh okay." He decides not to push me more but he knows I'm not telling him the truth.

   fave title track: so i actually had only heard of ateez about two days before answer dropped? (i’ve been into kpop less than a year lol) and i had no idea that like, teasers and promo pictures and highlight reels and all that were even a thing, so i saw the answer teaser and didn’t look at the title, so i was expecting a whole song and i was immediately livid!!! i was like “this is one of the best songs i have ever heard and i only get like a minute and twelve seconds of it for FORTY EIGHT HOURS before the whole thing drops”!?!!!!?!? tldr: i like say my name and pirate king too but answer was really my introduction into the world of kpop and therefore has a special place in my heart

   fave non-title track: i am BAD at picking favorites, soooooo top five would probably be stay, aurora, star 1117 (the buddy’s melodic mix version honestly but both are good), horizon, and to the beat

   fave mv: look we all know we like inception for reasons so i won’t even go there, and i know i’m biased towards answer because it was really my first ever kpop comeback but the answer mv is so cool!!!!!! the song is amazing, the scenery and the effects are neat, the choreo is iconic, the outfits were memorable, it was one of their best collective hair-as (hair eras), it makes absolutely no sense and gave the kpop mv theorists a whole lot to think about, so i’m gonna say answer

12. Sara Lance

So Sara Lance is definitely one of my favorite bisexual characters. She snarky, she got the puns, she god damn assassin, she the captain, she a god damn legend. I mean for real the moment she was introduced as Canary I was like... omg, *swoon* ! Her character development is just awesome.

Oh and Avalance is one of top ships for life.

13. Shuri

I was actually beyond sad she doesn't have more screen time in the movies because Shuri is the best. Witty and an actual to goddess genius who doesn't take shit from anyone. She even becomes the Black Panther in the comics for awhile and to see that in a onscreen adaptation would be truly mind blowing! I found out she has been introduced in Marvel Rising a show I really, really need to catch up like ASAP, I've just been distracted by other shows and stuff recently so... it is on my list! Oh and she is offically a Disney Princess! I don't make the rules, it is just a damn fact!

14. Adora/She-Ra

Speaking of my "distractions", obviously I've been living and breathing She-Ra and the Princesses of Power and I'm still pretty high on it and probably will always be. The She-Ra crew took us to new heights with LGBTQIA representation in animation by giving us a Canon lesbian main character and so many other things that just make me so damn happy. Adora has that dumb jock energy and that's something I absolutely ADORE! (Sorry, not sorry)

Cough, oh BTW Catra is my favorite (I'm definitely biased when it comes to her i admit it!) so I'm happy with them being together, like SOOOO much but my ship for Glimadora never really died and my main ship is still Glitradora

... sorry Bow you're still my best boy, I promise!

15. Harley Quinn

Speaking of characters bringing us some beautiful representation lately, ladies, gentlemen and my non binary beauties I give you the one and only Harley Quinn! With the latest adapation giving us all we wanted with her relationship with Ivy her being canonical Bisexual is only one reason why I truly love this character. Harley broke out from her unhealthy relationship and has become one of the greats if not the greatest anti heros of all time. Fight me on it. Won't matter. Because I love her and I will never stop.

16. Posion Ivy

You know you gotta love a woman that stands up for her beliefs... even if that belief is that plants are better than people annnnnnddddd she's not wrong. Personally I have a black thumb but I have thing for plant Goddesses like her.

17. Catwoman

Oh speaking of my favorite DC women, Catwoman was my first crush. Yes, the Michelle Pfeiffer version in Batman Returns. No, my little baby queer heart didn't understand why at the time. Basically this theif took my heart before anyone else. Definitely the reason I have an affinity toward cat like or cat girls in general soooooo there is that. I love her because no one can tell her what to do. Not even Batman. She is just like, shiny thing i want, i take and hmm maybe I care enough not to kill you if you get in my way but who knows?

18. Abby

So I obviously played the game at this point.

Oh do I stan Abby? Um yes obviously. How couod you not? Am I conflicted about it? Nope. Ellie will always be my girl in this series but at the end of the day Abby's character growth and development sort of stole the show. Like Joel changed when he met Ellie, Abby changed when she met Lev. Cricumstances made her the bad guy. Did she do fucked up shit? Of course. Does she deserve redemption? Yes. I know a lot of people still hate her but I don't get it. I think the perspective shift was one of the most brilliant story telling in a game I have ever witnessed. I'm still emotional about the whole experience.

If you are an asshole that sent the voice actor Laura Bailey death threats unfollow me because fuck you. Seriously. Fuck. You.

19. Azula

Speaking of characters that have done evil things. Let's turn our attention to one of my all time favorite villains. Azula came in and we asked Fire Lord who? Fourteen years, a Clever prodigy that literally has killer instinct and it is not afraid to use her deadly force.You fear her every time she catches up with Team Avatar and then... they go and make you feel bad for her at the end. At least I did.

She loses everything. Her allies. Her throne. Her mind. Humanly flawed and not at all one deminsional.

20. Seven of Nine

Y'all have no idea how truly fucking happy I am that Star Trek brought her back. Seven is my favorite character in the whole series. I was obsessed with the Borg as a kid and when they introduced her character I just instantly fangirled so hard over her. I'm still fangirling over her. Bringing her back literally made me cry. She literally has transformed so much through the years and I can not wait to see where her character goes from here.

To top it off, my heart literally tried to kill me when she had that hand hold scene with Raffi, I was like... omg... omg! Yes, please!!!!! That's all I wanted as a little queer watching this series i just didn't know it at the time.

My mother is literally pissed about this btw. In the novels Seven and Chakotay actually date for awhile and I was okay with it but she loved it. Then that scene in Picard happened. My mom and I have very few things we bond over and Star Trek is one of those. But basically she refuses to believe that hand hold is anything but platonic and I'm just waiting at this point like... come on Star Trek. Give me this one to me please.

Anyway I have a few thoughts on recs, but FIRST - I have to give a disclaimer. Also even the disclaimer has to be under a cut apparently because RAMBLING

DISCLAIMER - so you know whether or not to listen to any of my opinions:

I am an extremely character-driven reader. I like stories that have plots, absolutely, because I usually can guess the ending of a plot a few steps into a story and that gets boring and old fast. 

Which is probably why to me, characters are the most important part of a story, as is character progression. 

I need to feel like I get that character, whether or not I agree with them every moment of their choices, and if the story is a romance with a couple, I have to truly be sold on the idea that THESE TWO should be together, not just because they happen to fulfill tropes of whatever is currently most popular in whatever genre, but rather because they actually fit as two human beings who I could realistically see falling in love. 

I also really like reading stories of people STAYING in love if it has to be a romance; I get really bored by stories that spend all this time getting someone together, and the whole thing is believable until sex gets involved and suddenly they’re instabanging and then that’s the end of the story. Because sex = healthy relationship?? idk, it’s honestly probably the fact I’m asexual that this is a pet peeve of mine. 

Anyway this is absolutely not shade but so many books which people think of as “m/m” have a totally different vibe than what I tend to want to read. They are often written specifically to be sort of male sexual romance books in which the point of the story is to get two dudes together sexually and then if there’s story beyond that, bonus Jonas, and if not, well, at least they whipped their dicks out on page. 

I’m not at ALL knocking this type of book, or people who like reading those sorts of books. There’s damn good reason to write and read those sorts of books, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with them. I mention this only to say that for me, as a reader, my attention span is soooooo short dude. I have little to no attention for stories that revolve almost completely around sex, especially if the sex isn’t even built into the character progression.

But here’s where there’s a huge difference for me: the characters.

If I connect with the characters, I will read almost anything. I’m a reader who’s phenomenally biased toward reading character progression and preferring a mixture of darkness with lightness in the story - dark themes but also humor, some sort of balance like that. Whether or not characters have sex, whether or not there’s a solid romance at the base of it, whether or not a lot of things I care about less than I care about connecting with the characters.

Ideally for me, a book series or even a singular book has a good plot that’s interesting, great characters, great character progression, and a variance in emotions combined with solid enough worldbuilding that I feel like I’m there. But for me, to read and recommend something, I could give a lot of passes on an underdeveloped plot if the characters and their progression is great enough, but if it’s the best plot in the world and the characters don’t grip me I will never recommend it. 

Also, again, this is no shade to m/m as a genre, and more of an explanation of my phenomenally short attention span and super pickiness as a reader… but I find that a lot of the stories I try reading that are marketed as m/m start out strong for me as a reader, but by the end I’m less enamored. The ending is too abrupt or I don’t like the dynamic of the main couple or the vibe is off or the plot is too easy to predict or etc etc. So I really only have a very small list of m/m I ever recommend tbh - I tend to like stories that aren’t specifically written to have gay/LGBTQ male leads but rather feel like they are a story which happens to feature LGBTQ/gay male leads. That may seem like a minor difference but for me, the vibe between the two is massively different, and can dictate whether I love something all the way through or not. 

I just wanted to mention that because I know not everyone feels the same way, so if you really love plot more than characters, you may want to take some of my recs with a grain of salt because you may find you don’t love them as much as I do, and you love other things more. I feel like honestly I’m way too picky of a reader probably, so other people probably have much better lists.

(Oh yeah btw, all of this is me framing things as a reader. To be clear: I’m not saying AND IN CONCLUSION I AM THUS A BETTER WRITER or anything at all like that lol I’m not a better writer than anyone tbh. I’m just saying as an extremely picky reader, these are stories I like and/or things I think others should give a try if it speaks to them)

DEFINITELY RECOMMEND

Raised by Wolves by W.A. Hoffman is my other favorite m/m series along with TFC/AFTG, and I have been recommending the two at the same time for literal years. This post is me waxing poetic about it and why I love it. So is this post. Also here too which tells you the book order etc. I love the hell out of that series, but it’s definitely the sort of series that people may have a strong reaction to for various reasons. Let’s just say if you were to actually do a bunch of trigger warnings for ICoS, the list would be long. RBW would have a similar list that’s similarly long, probably. I need to read the latest story that came out from RBW a year or two ago; only reason I haven’t is I totally want to reread the story from the start but goddamn that’s an undertaking if I do lol I might though, after I finish my current ebook read. This series is finished (well, idk what the newest short story is about but as for the main series, it’s done)

MOSTLY RECOMMEND

Psycop by Jordan Castillo Price - one of my flaws, probably, is that I’m too honest, and I don’t ever mean to be a dick but I also can’t stand the idea of misleading anyone or lying. So in all honesty, the plot on this series can be kind of frustratingly light or predictable at times. HOWEVER, I looooove the characters. I frickin LOVE Victor Bayne, the MC. I’d started this series ages ago, read through like book idk 5? 6? and got kind of frustrated by some plot stuff, never finished reading the series. Recently I randomly remembered it and decided to try it again. I read all the way through all 10 books and then almost immediately started over again because I was curious to reread from the beginning knowing some things now. There are some things this series does super well, IMO, and I could do a whole post on this series if anyone wants. But tl;dr is I really like the worldbuilding of the psychic powers, I LOVE how Victor’s such an unreliable narrator and how the series deals with showing the way anxiety and addiction and etc affects the mind, and I LOVE how the main couple at first seems super like wtf?? in terms of how quickly it comes on (like, literally, first chapter - just read it lol) but the more you read, you see how perfect they actually are for each other. One thing too: I almost didn’t read the 8th book (Skin After Skin) because it’s got a minor character as the main POV and I wasn’t sure I wanted to break my roll going with Victor as MC. But I did read it and I’m very glad I did. If you read this, DEFINITELY read book 8 where it is in series - it gives you a really good, more objective view of the main couple, plus it’s interesting seeing the characters from a totally different viewpoint than Victor. The series is ongoing but I still recommend it. Widdershins by Jordan L Hawk - This is the first book in a series called Whyborne & Griffin, of which it looks like from the quickest glance at Amazon so far there are 10 books? I’m trying to do next to no research on the series because I want to be surprised. Kobo tells me I’m about 23% through the first book, just about to start chapter 8. I have this listed under “not sure yet if I recommend” because as aforementioned, I have a tendency to have a totally different view of a book or series in m/mdom at the beginning vs end of the first book or the books in the series as a whole. So far I really like it though, and I hope it remains a vibe I can get behind, because right now I’m really enjoying it :) I love nerdy MCs. Languages are my jam, man.

The Tamir Triad by Lynn Flewelling (sometimes called by its first book: The Bone Doll’s Twin). I don’t want to say too much on this so I don’t spoil you on anything. It’s kind of dark and pretty richly written, though.

Burn the Stage 

That was a really fun screening in Sydney, getting to see it with all the fans. Thank you to all the fans that gave away free stuff! I’m gonna treasure my Koya photo sob.

The movie is super fun, if you love BTS you’ll have a good time. YEONTAN IS A SUPERSTAR OMG. And gimme the orchestral arrangements of Sea and Spring Day right now omg.

Cinematically I don’t think it’s specific or coherent enough to be a great documentary - there’s very little context of who they are and what they’ve done. And there’s some scenes which are very stagey - like way more than the series even - and I’d love even one (1) full song performance? But anyway. It’s mostly new footage. It’s fun rather than essential, the series gives way more narrative development and canon ‘facts’, but if you’re a fan this is bang for your buck.

It has a voiceover? From… someone? It’s totally unnecessary. Made all the more jarring by the fact that at one point Yoongi does a brief voiceover too? Yoongi’s one is quite touching. The narrator one not so much.

The bbq and pool scene was, like, straight out of boyband documentaries 101 lol. I think they did something almost exactly the same in the 1D documentary (YES I HAVE SEEN MY FAIR SHARE OF BOYBAND DOCOS). Like, it was very sweet and all, and I CRACKED UP at the shot of Yoongi coolly sipping his wine while the rest leapt into the pool like fools, especially Jin, but it had a slightly forced “we’re playing up for the cameras” sense to it.

That said, that was a relatively brief segment and I think probably filmed quite early on? The rest of the movie is much more naturalistic behind the scenes footage of the tour, like the bulk of the yt series.

And also that scene included Taehyung playing first chopsticks on the piano, and then the wedding march - which then cuts to Jimin and Hobi holding hands and one of them yelling “Groom Seokjin” WHAT. I don’t know. Who is married? They’re all married.

One thing I don’t think they touched on at all in the series was that Namjoon was carrying what looked like quite a bad leg injury through the early stages of the tour, enough that he had to be piggybacked backstage and his leg was splinted. I wonder if it’s related to the injury that kept him off stage towards the end of BST promos? God. I hope it’s not a recurring injury.

Yoongi drinking wine as he composed and getting all red in the face was fucking adorable don’t look at me. Seeing him get very, very nerdy and happy with music equipment purchases was soooooo good.

Seokjin backstage bantering with his physio as they went through stretches was a delight. His flailing with 3d goggles (yes we finally see that scene!) was also just SO JIN as was Namjoon looking vaguely alarmed and staying well out of arms’ length.

We saw multiple scenes of Jin eating in hotel rooms with Jungkook and Jimin, just like they do in their vlives, I AM SO GLAD they have their little gang. In one scene JK says he has an IQ of 128 and Jimin says his is the same - Jin says his is 108 and CRACKS UP, he is wonderful, I love him.

You will be shocked but Hobi is, like, hot. You know how sometimes people are like “yes in person he is very masculine but very pretty, both at the same time!” well yeah those vibes were strong. In the end credits he also is waiting backstage and is like “ow I bumped my head!” and then straight away assumes game face to go on stage and I’m just fascinated by that, how he turns it on and off. Also him being anxious about JK and hovering over a hurt Namjoon was very in my feelings, sob they care for each other so much… And haha teasing Namjoon about how much shopping he’s going to do as tho he’s any better!! Also I love that they played SOOO much of Piece of Peace, it deserves that shine.

They showed a little of Jimin crying again about his performance, poor bb, but also Tae coming to comfort him and take him off camera. They also showed the two of them doing couple dance moves at the end, and falling over each other with laughter, so u know. SOULMATES.

BTS thanking their crew and toasting them was very sweet.

It follows the series timeline, and then extends beyond it to the Fake Love performance at the Billboards, placing their first Billboard win in the middle of the movie. That part is actually shown quite briefly and is followed by quite a long sequence in Sydney, their first stop after winning the first Billboard. NOT TO BE BIASED BC I LIVE IN SYDNEY AND WAS AT THE SHOW but that was legit one of the best sequences in the movie. They’re all so happy and buzzy from winning - “stop saying Billboard!” Jin says backstage, and Yoongi and Namjoon both protest they only said it once, Yoongi saying “I didn’t even say B!” - and then when it’s rehearsal time they each do each other’s solo stages!!!! OMG this part was so good -

-Taehyung does Begin and IS AMAZING, omg the footwork. -Jimin does Reflection -Yoongi does Awake and halfway thru, as he’s up on the pedestal, says “I can’t do this” LOL -Hobi does Stigma and really belts it! -Jungkook does First Love and trips over the staircase lol poor bb!

I don’t think we saw Namjoon or Jin? Correct me if I’m wrong. It all went by so fast lol.

And yeah I’ll never be sick of seeing footage of the Sydney show. They look so happy. I am so glad i was there.

After the world tour, they show a meeting with BTS and Bang PD, where he says it’s “90% certain” they’ll get to go to AMAs and perform. That’s pretty fascinating. He also says he’s worried that they will be miserable if they keep on like this and that they have to find happiness, and they agree. (I think Taehyung was absent from this scene? Not sure why, could be anything I guess.)

The Wings finale in Seoul! Yeontan popping up out of his little carry bag produced the biggest audience UWU everrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I clapped, I won’t lie. And then! Jungkook playing with him! Hobi scolding him for peeing but also cuddling him and doing the Mic Drop “did you see my bag” dance omg it goes on for ages and is ADORABLE and Yeontan looks… so patient…. LOL….
