(cw for a gun, mild blood and suicide in the last drawing.)
Day 1-5 of drawing Re:Kinder daily for a whole month! I'll be doing that all month. ☺️
I did not draw Re:Kinder enough (said both sarcastically and genuinely, because while I know the statement is ridiculous I also do believe it www), so I chose to challenge myself. I will post these every 5 days to not clog the tag too much.

SIDE ORDER: GO Ouch… YOURSELF CHALLENGE
HERE ARE THE RULES YOU PATHETIC CEPHALOPODS
FIRST YOU PICK BETWEEN THE “I HATE THIS” VERSION OR THE “MAYBE I LIKE THE PAIN” VERSION
SPECIFIC TO THE “I HATE THIS” VERSION:
YOU MUST PICK EIGHT’S PALETTE. THE ONLY HACKS YOU CAN ENABLE ARE DRONE GAUGE TURF CHARGE, DRONE GAUGE SPLAT CHARGE, AND FLOOR RESET MAX.
SPECIFIC TO THE “MAYBE I LIKE THE PAIN” VERSION:
YOU MUST SELECT MURCH’S PALETTE. THE ONLY HACKS YOU CAN ENABLE ARE DRONE GAUGE TURF CHARGE AND DRONE GAUGE SPLAT CHARGE. ON THE FLOOR 5 VENDING MACHINE (OR EARLIER, IF YOU SEE ONE) YOU MUST IMMEDIATELY EXCHANGE YOUR SPECIAL.
NOW ONTO THE RULES FOR BOTH:
DURING YOUR RUN, THE ONLY CHIPS YOU CAN OBTAIN ARE DRONE SPLAT GAUGE, DRONE TURF GAUGE, DRONE GAUGE CHARGE, MOBILE DRONE GAUGE, SOUND WAVE DAMAGE AND DRONE BATTERY DROP. AKA, YOU GET Z E R O BENEFIT FROM ANY CHIP YOU GET.
THAT MEANS NO CHEATING GRABBING A KILLER WAIL OR WAVE BREAKER FROM A VENDING MACHINE, ONCE YOU’RE PAST FLOOR 5 THEY’RE BANNED ANYWAY, ALONGSIDE SKIPPING FLOORS OR TAKING BONUS FLOORS.
ON TOP OF THAT, IF AT ANY POINT YOU SEE A DANGER FLOOR YOU MUST TAKE IT. I DON’T CARE HOW CRUEL OR SISYPHEAN IT IS, YOU GOTTA TAKE IT TO THE
FACE
And that should about sum up the rules! The idea of this is to make the single hardest Side Order run possible, where you’re not only getting no hack benefits but also no chip benefits either. Plus with taking easier floors out of the question, it’ll undoubtedly be a struggle all the way through. Oh, and the reason there’s two versions is so you can focus on just playing the challenge and mitigating the RNG aspect if you want, or if you want to super torture yourself with RNG there’s an option there too.
Is this borderline insanity? No, it IS insanity. Am I gonna try this myself? Probably!
And if anyone else tries it, PLEASE TELL ME HOW IT WENT I WANT TO HEAR ALL ABOUT THE SITUATIONS PLEASE!

[ Directional Orbit ] Fire - Stage 120 Clear VOD
On June 26th I finally cleared Rafayel's Directional Orbit: Fire - Stage 120! This is the last fight currently available for hunters to challenge in the Deepspace Trials. With this clear I can now say I have successfully completed all 120 stages of Open and Directional Orbits that are out. It's a feels good moment knowing that I was able to achieve this goal before the big update in July. Hopefully we'll see more stages soon.
Anyway, some important information pertaining to Stage 120. Like all red orbits, x0 stages it requires two different teams. Team 01's Protofield Stellactrum is 6-Pearl memories. Team 02's Protofield Stellactrum is 6-Violet memories.
By having a 'perfect match' with the Protofield Stellactrum you will receive additional attribute bonuses (for every color you match increase DMG boost 5.0% and DMG reduction 5.0% up to 30.0%), as well as the ability to shatter two protofield shields in a single strike. For this stage I opted to match the colors for each team. The bonuses of having a perfect match was more optimal instead of me trying to brute force it.
A disclaimer of sorts -- a lot of time, energy, and resources went into this stage. Everything here is based on my own experience with this particular fight. There is no right or wrong way to go about it. What worked for me may not work for you, but I hope some of the things I learned along the way could help you with your own trials.
What a long and precarious journey this has been, especially with Rafayel. From me begging the rng god(s) to bless me with his AB myth pair to struggling to obtain crit rate violet delta protocores... his team builds always made me work for it in every sense of the word. Which is why I am beyond ecstatic to finally be done with this, hahaha. I started this stage on 05/22 and finally cleared on 06/26 -- 5 weeks of progging this fight whenever his orbit was available... ngl it was pretty rough.
With Team 01, it wasn't so bad if you have a perfect match and group up the three wanderers. I've done countless runs of this stage and noticed that my build was strong enough to auto battle it -- though it sometimes cut really close to the timer ending. However, if you're doing it off color and trying to brute force it I would highly suggest that you stand close to / focus on Nauticverge (it's ranged with a staff). The other two wanderers will come to you to make it easier to group together.
With Team 02, the sheer amount of resources I invested into Rafayel's violet team is kinda wild. This was the first time I awakened a 4-star memory [Ivory Nightfall] but that was done only after I exhausted all of my other upgrades (ie. getting 5-star memories to level 80, maxing out +15 protocores). I don't regret that though. That memory is beautiful and well worth it since it's an ATK talent. I called it my make or break upgrade and thankfully that was the last bit of damage I needed to clear.
Originally, I was progging the second half of the stage using his Phantasma Sands guns... but finally gave up and swapped to Hunter Claymore to do even more damage. Truthfully, I'm not that great when it comes to melee weapons. Getting those stacks was a hit or miss because I anxiously dodge back too fast before seeing the red ring.
I know my game play was messy... but at least I made sure to press my buttons on cooldown, tried not to cap on my energy charges, and made sure to grab the fishtail beacon every time I used Rafayel's support skill. There's also the case with the last shield break of the fight. I made sure to hold my resonance skill until ~0:13 left on the timer to utilize the most damage out of my ardent oath during the wanderers weakened state. As seen in my video that was the final blow before I got my clear!

Splatoon 3 Version 4.1 Patch Notes Breakdown
Yesterday, we got the Patch Notes for Version 4.1, releasing in a couple of hours. Let's take a look at them real quick, because there's some very interesting stuff in here this time around!
Starting with the Main Weapons section:
Aerospray got an ink efficiency buff which is almost hilariously irrelevant, because this weapon farms its Special so quickly that it'll never run out of ink anyway. It matters more for Silver Aerospray, which gets more shots after a Fizzy Bomb, which is nice, I suppose.
Splattershot and N-Zap got the exact same change, a 17% accuracy buff. Worth mentioning is that because your spread is tighter this is technically also a paint nerf, though not a significant one.
I'll be honest, this buff was not necessary. N-Zap is a very relevant weapon in competitive player, and both Splattershots see a ton of play as well. So they didn't need this, but in the same vein I also doubt it'll change their standing too much. There's been some doomsaying over these buffs, people predicting the return of Splatoon 2's Shooter meta and such, but that meta was as much about the Specials as it was the weapons, with the spammability of Ink Armor in particular pushing a lot of weapons out of viability entirely. Ink Armor isn't in 3 (thankfully) and so we won't have a repeat of that. Still, not a good look when Shooter bias is a constant discussion in the community, but that is a conversation I really don't want to have, so let's move on.
Splattershot Pro got its paint increased by 8%, which is very nice for it. It's a weapon with a lot of weaknesses, its mediocre paint being amongst them, and this will help with that while also offsetting Forge's enormous Special cost a bit (no seriously, why is this weapon still 210p?)
Luna's shot deviation while jumping was cut by quite a bit, though I am unsure how much this actually matters, since this was a weapon that played around hitting indirects a lot anyway, so it didn't mind the RNG that much. Still, actually shooting where your crosshair is more reliably isn't bad at all, so it's a W for Luna players.
Dynamo's white ink frames were reduced by 10, which is nice but not really the buff it wanted, I think. Dynamo's biggest flaws at the moment are its aggressive damage falloff (At max range its vertical flicks do 40 damage, which is so little that it doesn't even 3-shot people who are swimming in their ink due to passive healing.) and paint RNG on the horizontal flicks which makes it very inconsistent.
Still, this isn't nothing. Less white ink means you have less downtime, meaning you can actually contribute more in a fight, and that's good!
Painbrush gets a massive W with a whopping 25% ink efficiency buff. This is is a change that has a lot of ripple effects through its kit, because it can now paint more and get more Specials as a result, as well as follow up on its Curling Bombs more easily. It also means the weapon can get away with less Ink Saver Main in its builds. All in all a very uncomplicated positive change with a lot of nuance.
How many of you even knew Goo Tuber doesn't need a full charge to deal 100 damage? Well now the game is going to tell you. This is a nice quality of life change, but I can't imagine it'll help Goo Tuber mains much, as this is likely something they've likely got figured out already.
Bloblobber gets a simple 10% paint buff, which is not a large buff, but it's still nice, especially since it has a Special it likes to combo with.
Finally, Tri-Stringer gets a small damage increase to its explosives, as well a larger movement speed buff. The damage increase is actually more significant than it might look, because each of the Tri-Stringer's three projectiles deal 35 damage on impact, meaning that if you hit two of them (which is a lot easier than hitting all three) the last projectile can now combo for a clean kill, even if your aim isn't dead on. This is definitively a weapon to keep an eye on now, especially if it gets a good second kit in the next patch.
With all of the Main Weapon changes out of the way, it's time for some Special Points changes:
Clash Blaster Neo and Carbon Roller each got a 10p buff, which is nice for weapons that don't paint well, and I also believe these are the first weapons to get their Special cost set below 180p, as well.
Meanwhile, Rapid Blaster Pro Deco, Tri-Slosher Nouveau, Mini Splatling, and Ballpoint Splatling all got a 10p increase. Ballpoint makes a lot of sense, as it has been quite the menace for some time, and is broadly speaking agreed upon by competitive players to be the single best weapon in the game right now.
But the rest are quite puzzling. The Mini Splatling nerf I can maybe understand if I assume it was a change aimed at low-level play, since it can output a lot of Stamps, and I already speculated that the Stamp nerf last patch was aimed squarely at low-level play, but the other two are quite the mystery. While Tri-Slosher Nouveau is seeing a decent amount of high-level play right now, it doesn't spam Tacticooler anywhere near as much as the N-Zap, which gets them so quickly it can very have permanent upkeep of the buff.
And the Rapid Blaster Pro Deco nerf is just random. Picked via dartboard kind of change.
But enough about that, time for the Sub Weapon changes! There's only two of them, this time.
Sprinkler had its high-paint mode by three seconds, which really doesn't change much. It paints better, assuming you can keep it up for an extended period of time, and that's about it honestly.
Angle Shooter got a 5 point damage increase, putting it at 40 damage. See, now it's starting to be worth it. We're not quite there yet, I think, it'll still be one of the weaker Sub Weapons in the game, but 40 is a much better number than 35, combing with a lot more things. For example, it now combos with two shots from Jet Squelcher, or a direct hit from a Burst Bomb.
And that's all the changes on that front. Let's move onto Specials, because that is where the spice is!
We'll skip right to the only nerf in this section, which is directed at the Inkjet, the part of its splash radius which deals 50 damage. For the record, this stat was increase by 43% back in 3.1, so it's still larger than it was at launch by a significant margin. The buff kind of pushed Inkjet over the edge a bit, as it was very easy to two-shot with its 50 damage splash radius. This reels it in a bit, while still leaving it in a pretty good spot, I think.
Trizooka's splash damage was increased by 20 points, and I actually think this might be a big deal. The splash radius is deceptively large, and now it'll splat in two shots. This will make Trizooka a lot more consistent, as it won't be as reliant on hitting directs to get Splats. Keep an eye on this thing in the future!
Ink Vac's explosion radius was increased by quite a bit. Expect to die to Ink Vac a lot more for a while after this patch hits, if only because you won't be used to the new radius. That said, this won't really solve Ink Vac's problems, as it still incapacitates the player using it for quite some time. It needs a lot of QoL to be relevant still.
And the last changes in the entire patch are some hefty buffs to Super Chump. The maximum explosion damage was increased to 70, and the size was increased by 38%. Additionally, the radius of the 35 splash damage was increased by 20%. These changes can be quite significant, I think, in part because Super Chump can now combo with itself. Three indirects, or a direct and an indirect, will now splat on its own, and with the radius changes Super Chumps are much more likely to hit you multiple times. It remains to be seen, but I don't think you'll be able to just ignore the Chumps the way you could before as they'll now contribute with a lot of potential chip damage.
Overall, I think this is a very positive patch. Aside from the N-Zap and Splattershot changes, all the buffs were a net positive for the game, and it does a lot to rein in the current best Main and Special quite a bit. The Special changes in particular are very exciting, and I am very curious if it'll lead to an increase in Trizooka and Super Chump usage in competitive play.
My biggest worry for the future is what N-Zap is going to do now. With a fresh buff to its Main, its Special output being untouched on one kit and the other getting its Special buffed, it might just have enough power to take over the meta in the wake of Ballpoint. But it also might not, it's still got to deal with its poor matchup against Splash-o-matic, after all, and it remains to be seen how much the Inkjet and Ballpoint nerfs matter.
Either way I think this patch is a positive one, and I hope y'all think so too!

Hi question: Is Fear and Hunger supposed to be this hard? I've played for almost 7 hours and feel like I've made like, no progress. Am I missing something? Q-Q You really seem to love the game so there's gotta be more to it than my experience of infinite leg breaking
dasfdsfn no yea funger. IS super hard. sometimes to the point of unfairness, since it heavily relies on RNG. consider that, despite making no progress in the story, you're learning more and more stuff about the mechanics of the game, where to go and which enemies to avoid. even now, sometimes i have "hopeless" runs, where i force myself to continue not because i feel like i can win, but because pushing a little more means i get to understand a little more how the game works.
buuuuuuut if i may give a little hints, going as spoiler-free as possible:
for an easy start, pick mercenary, be a burglar and rush into the dungeon. that's by far the easiest way to play the game
go left
avoid enemies at all costs as long as you're alone
the bed next to the statue is a one time free save.
every bed become free saves as long as theres no enemy left alive in that floor. if you fail the coin flip just leave the area and return in here
guard can stop every coin flip attack, and enemies always use a specific pattern. learn their rhythm
O LORD, GIVE, WHITE ANGEL*
experiment with the talk option, because sometimes it can save you from very difficult battles*
don't go directly for the head, it has too much evasion as long as the enemy's balance is stable
learn which part of the body does which attack
fire and poison on enemies is OP to the point to be broken
talk just once to the man in the library
know where to pray to which god*
boss souls can be taken by soul stones, and some are much more valuable than others*
protecting your arms is much more important than protecting your legs
infection is such a bitch of a status. get rid of it as fast as possible*
red vials can be used against enemies
dont use blue herbs unless you have no other choice. if you find the right books you can turn them into mix of red and blue or blue vials, which give you way more HP
if the crow enters the room, simply changing screen despawns him
let the girl throw rocks
the mines have a one time free full hunger area, the courtyard one where you can regain all health. all the other times you'll have to coin flip
:)
...and since some are very cryptic, under read more more explainations on the ones with the *. i go a lot more in details, but read it only if youre, like. very desperate
if you find an empty scroll and a feather, use the scroll and write O LORD in the first menu, GIVE in the second, WHITE ANGEL in the third, in all caps. it's a very powerful late-game accessory that allows you to have two turn
very important examples for talk options: in the mines, Moonless can become a party member if you talk to her and give her rotten meat twice; the hounds will get distracted if you talk and throw a stick; you can sell people to Trortur if you talk to him; the yellow mages may give you a good item; corpses won't attack you if you tell them PREPARE TO DIE
out of every God, Alll-mer can unlock very cool stuff. Pray to him in one of the circles on the ground, sacrifice the crucified man in the torture chamber (kill the priests around him, they give you access to the level up room) and pray to him at the big statue in the courtyard where you find Ragnvaldr and the Butterfly. If you have a Soul Stone "charged" with an enemy's soul, this should be enough to unlock Teleport in the hexen circles
by far the best bosses to Soul Stone(tm) are the Salmonsnake and the White Angel's. the Black Witch and the Old Guardian are quite good too, but if you have to pick two go for the former
infection is a status that insta-kills you after 7 screen change. Fix it as fast as possible either with green herbs or by cutting off the infected limb. Having no shield is much better than restarting the whole game

Chapter 9- Part 14
I do apologize for this being a less-than-ideal first impression for Popplio, but Xera’s got pride to uphold, especially against a rival.
Let’s start by putting the Nidorino to sleep with Sing. Luckily, Sing hits, but Nidorino gets a lucky crit with Poison Tail beforehand in return.
But now that it’s asleep, we can start Zen Headbutting! We get one, and- what do you mean it woke up this time?? And what do you mean Zen Headbutt missed?????
Well, this isn’t good at all! But it’s not impossible to get out of this- first, we heal Whiskers with a Potion-
And then we attempt to put it to sleep again with Sing! Whiskers will live Poison Tail as long as it doesn’t crit again- we just need Sing to land…
And it does! But…we’ve run into a different problem now. Whiskers could go back to spamming Zen Headbutt, but if Nidorino wakes up early again…well, that’d be really bad. No- the safer play is to switch in to someone else.
It’s your turn, Prong!
You guys know what time it is, right? Start with Charge…
And with the power of Charge and STAB…FIRE THAT LASER, GIRL!! FINISH THE-
…You all can see that, right?
youtube
(Future edit: I don't know if I should "thank" Tumblr or YouTube for the random age-restriction and messing up this video addition, but whatever, go off I guess, heavens forbid we have swears on this website-)
I think I’m losing it, I think I am actually starting to go insane- how does this keep happening!? How, seriously!? It can’t be because I keep getting unlucky with damage rolls, right? Once or twice maybe, but- look at how many times this has happened throughout this playthrough so far! In this chapter! In this battle alone! Are you serious!?
Never in all the years I’ve been playing Pokémon has something like this happened, where enemy Pokémon survive on actual slivers of HP without Endure, Sturdy, Focus Bands/Sashes, or the like. Just…in general, and in multiple different battles in the same game! Not in the mainline games, not the spinoffs, not even when I played Insurgence, I don’t even think this has happened as often when I play on Showdown! So what’s happening here?? Why now, when I’m playing through Reborn, is this happening so often?
It can’t just be luck with the damage rolls and ranges, even I wouldn’t get that unlucky this often! Is it my Pokémon’s EVs and IVs? The enemy Pokémon’s EVs and IVs? Is the RNG programmed to be biased towards the player’s lower-damage rolls no matter what? That third one is a bit conspiratorial (though not unfounded- look up how the fifth Fire Emblem game, Thracia 776, handles the survival of one of its vital characters, Eyvel, it’s very interesting), but at this point I don’t have many ideas for what it could be!
Oh and of course, Nidorino wakes up on the next turn and hits Prong with Poison Tail- it’s not a crit or anything, but it’s still adding insult to injury!
THAT’S IT, FIRE THAT LASER AGAIN!!
Was using a +2 and STAB boosted Charge Beam a bit overkill here, considering Nidorino was probably at 1 HP? Yeah, probably. Would Mud-Slap or Bug Bite have finished the job just as easily? Certainly. Do I care at this point? No, not really- besides, Cain could have used, like, a Super Potion or something, and at that point the Charge Beam would have been even more justified!
Hah- he says that and he doesn’t even know about Xera’s vigilante arc or the stuff with Team Meteor…
…That stuff with enemy Pokémon surviving on slivers of health is going to cost me a battle one day, I’m calling it right now. One day, during a tough/tense battle, an opposing Pokémon is going to survive an otherwise lethal attack with one or two pixels of health left, and it’s going to ultimately lead to Xera losing the battle and forcing me to reset.
That’s…certainly one way to describe the battle that just happened, and Xera herself.
The Wasteland? Why would he have business there? What, is he from there or something? From what that old man said, it doesn’t sound like the kind of place anyone would live in or want to live in…
Well, the horrors of numbers aside, I am glad we got to see and battle Cain again- which is something I did not think I would be saying several chapters ago.
Yeah, the lake looked pretty big on the map, so the fact that it’s all polluted and grimy…yeesh.
Oh, right- the sidequest from Florinia that we went through all of this for! The TMX! If we don’t get that Cut thing as soon as possible after all of this, I will actually lose it-

(I keep telling myself, “Oh, I better not wait a month between Echoes playthrough posts again” and proceed to do just that)
The fact that Valbar’s like “oh, but there’s no use standing around crying about it” after this is just… wow. No, Valbar, it is incredibly valid to cry about it. Like good on you for knowing what you need and deciding maybe life like this might help you, but like… the occasional tears are okay, buddy. I promise I won’t judge.
I’m going to have to write an essay on the way this game confronts sexism, swapping between Watsonian and Doylist perspectives, because this is just continuously too interesting to me.
Probably a good time to mention that in my first year of university I took an East Asian History class, and while the classroom was fairly large, my professor would always ask my opinions on feminist issues in varying time periods in a few of the different countries… because I always wanted to know what was going on with the women when I wrote my essays.
I think this probably says something about Fernand, that he’s so smitten with someone like Berkut… like bro. Even Berkut’s fiancée isn’t really that into him anymore because he’s just that freakish about the war. Maybe a bit of a red flag?
I mean, then again, it’s Fernand. He himself is a bit of a red flag. Maybe they’re perfect for each other, who knows.
Oh ho in this game, apparently, yes
Even though the last guy is a generic soldier, this looks like the mean girl line-up from every teen movie ever. Seriously. There’s the leader, her loyal follower, and the forgettable third one.
My brain needs to stop subconsciously memeing everything Berkut does, cause this just played, “Scared of beans, space boy?!” in my head. I think I’ve just seen inklings of the fanbase memeing and/or dunking on Berkut where they can, and now I’m just having these moments where I forget that I’m meant to take him seriously.
Which I mean, I hear he’s a pretty good villain when you get far enough into the game, so I’m sure I won’t have trouble taking him seriously later… but so far he’s mostly just showing up and being mean to Alm, so for now I am giving myself license to bully him softly.
… I did not enjoy this part. Idk if it was me or the chapter, but there was some fucking Fates-level RNG happening here. Also probably because I didn’t strategize really, I kind of just put the strong people closest and then charged, but that is neither here nor there. I mean, it’s probably the reason why I did not have a great time with it but hey. I’m a casual. And part of that is just because while I can think well, I can’t say I always want to lol. This was one of those times.

10 50 46 6 25 12 57. from an rng so idk what im sedning have fun love you
love u oliver <3 under a cut bc this is long i love to talk
10: 3 songs that make you happy
this is gonna be an odd mix but theres stories behind them. some hearts by carrie underwood, undone by weezer, and this song is a curse by frank iero
50: Something you like and something you despise in music these days
i like that its more common for artists to be emotionally vulnerable in their lyrics, in all genres. ofc theres still mindless purposeless music and some of its enjoyable also but i appreciate meaningful music. this might not be what the question is looking for but i hate the forced obsolescence of physical music aside from vinyl solely due to the fact that artists know they can charge an arm and a leg for vinyl. cds and casettes are dirt cheap so they are rarely produced anymore. at least thats my theory.
46: A song you can't take seriously
anything by taylor swift sorry. shes genuinely one of the worst lyricists of our time. but specifically that song she did with brendon urie its so bad it pisses me off
6: top 10 favorite bands at the moment
literally like everyone knows most of these already but i will list them anyway in no particular order. ls dunes, thursday, mcr, fiatfv, knocked loose, weezer, joyce manor, hot mulligan, depeche mode, and circa survive
25: Name one American band/artist you like
american cock band my chemical romance
12: 3 songs that make you nostalgic
some hearts by carrie underwood again, two princes by spin doctors, and here without you by three doors down
57: Is your music taste famliair to your best friend's? If no, what do they listen to?
yeah pretty similar!! we saw mcr together and we both enjoy going absolutely fucking wild to msi when we drink. i dont think shes into the heavier music like i am though shes more of an indie bitch

The Neopets NFT Debacle: A Summary Somehow Not The First Time This Has Happened!
So. Neopets recently announced its latest merchandising venture: Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). Without getting into the nitty-gritty technical details, these tokens are a digital collector’s item - a randomly-generated string of letters and numbers (’token’), with a unique picture of a customized Neopet that represents it. Kind of like a digital trading card.
No, you don’t get to choose what species of pet. No, you don’t get to choose what it’s wearing. No, you don’t get the pet on the main website. And no, you don’t even really own the artwork. Just the token.
Given that Neopets has continued to advertise itself as a children’s petsite, players have understandably been confused by the very non-kiddy merch move. And - more importantly - pissed.
It’s been a mess of a month so here’s a (not-so) quick recap of both the details and drama.
September 22nd:
Neopets Metaverse tweets for the first time, announcing that it will be creating a new line of official, Neopets-themed Non-Fungible Tokens.
A member of the Neopets Nation Facebook fan page notes that the twitter account is not being followed by the official Neopets twitter, nor has it received any public endorsement from the company. (x)
A Neopets Nation member sends a direct message to the Neopets twitter account, asking about the partnership. The staff member in charge of social media responds “I believe that is a scam.” (x)
Some hours later, the official Neopets twitter retweets the announcement, clarifying that it is indeed an official partnership. (x)
People are pissed.
September 23rd:
The Neopets team posts the announcement on the site’s New Features page, spreading the news to the playerbase at large. (x)
Users start voicing their concerns on the site’s forums (NeoBoards). Among the complaints are environmental concerns, the lack of site integration, the ugly RNG artwork, and Neopets’s long history of not delivering on merchandise. (Remind me to make a separate post on that last part because it’s a whole thing.)
Neopets responds by reassuring players that the partnership is legitimate and not a scam. ...That’s it. (x)
Fansite JellyNeo echoes the announcement to their homepage, with an added warning; “As a reminder, the last foray into Neopet crypto collectibles ended with the cards being largely worthless and unsellable. (The marketplace to sell/trade the cards was also shut down.)” (x)
The official NeopetsMeta discord server is reportedly a complete mess.
“...ever since this went up all I've seen in NFT spaces is talk of literally buying [Neopets] accounts on the black market to get a 'head start on the competition', so it's good to see that the rules of the website only apply to the long-time users and not the people wanting to pump and dump this community." (comment in ”love the new audience the NFTs are attracting!!”, 24 Sep 2021 - 5:09 am) “I don't know what NFT chats you mean but in the one specifically for Neopets Metaverse people are being overt about their motives.” (herdygerdy, JellyNeo staff, confirming the above)
No sign of any Neopets staff members. (x)
Also, one of the lead admins is called Jizz. Family friendly. (x)
September 24th:
A Neopets user does some digging into the partnership company, taking screenshots and documenting results on a petpage (originally NetDragon69, currently NFTurd. Mirror here). They note the following:
Moonvault, the company behind the NFTs, has existed for roughly a month. It's a shell company with little-to-no information on its homepage. A homepage which is mostly stock assets, anyhow.
Moonvault’s partner companies are both owned by NetDragon (which owns Neopets) and are most likely money laundering schemes.
One of said partner companies will write positive news articles about your company if you pay them. Hmm.
A disgruntled player posts the full names of JumpStart’s upper management to the boards. Players track down their LinkedIn profiles and start sending messages directly to the CEO, en masse. While this is public information and not considered doxxing, it is against site policy. Curiously, the thread remained up for at least twelve hours. Mods asleep, post their boss’s contact details.
Solana, the crypto-company powering the technology used for the NFTs, claims to be better for the environment than other methods of making crypto-merch. Heated arguments over whether or not NFTs can be environmentally friendly ensue. 2am rolls around, and I bail on the conversation after a crypto-bro unironically calls me sheeple.
At least one Neopets user is accused of being JumpStart staff in disguise, as their account is less than a month old and they seem to be the one (1) person on the boards defending the NFTs. This is likely untrue but it was very, very funny to read.
NeopetsMeta retweets an advertisement for, uh... Horny Hedgehogs. It’s nothing particularly graphic but sure, link to cartoon hedgehogs humping each other from your kids site merch page, why dont’cha. (x)
China declares all crypto-currency transactions illegal. Not because of TNT, obviously, but the timing is again very, very funny. This includes NFTs. Given that NetDragon is a Chinese company, this now means they’re also in some legal deep shit. (x)
September 25th:
JellyNeo staff member Herdy recaps and further explains the above happenings on a pet page. He also notes the following:
The artwork being used for the Dimensional Kougra NFT is not the official artwork, but rather an image unique to the Neopets fansite Dress To Impress. When this mistake is pointed out, the promotional artwork that included the Kougra is replaced with a Chocolate Kougra without comment. It’s currently unknown if the stolen asset is still in the system, but it does confirm that NeopetsMeta has no access to the site’s image databases. (x) (mirror) (archive of original page)
JellyNeo publicly criticized NeopetsMeta for tweeting a link to literal horny hedgehogs. Rather than taking the tweet down, NeopetsMeta instead accused JellyNeo of spreading misinformation. ...Even though their original tweet is still up. (x) (mirror)
He also speculates from past NFT endeavors that the starting price for one Neopets NFT is somewhere in the ballpark of $450 USD.
September 26 ~ 28:
No additional statements are made by TNT, and things on the NeoBoards begin to die down in lieu of new things to discuss. Less threads being made, but the ones that remained stayed active.
(Most of the drama around this time targeted a few specific players, particularly one who works in the Crypto industry. While it was certainly a thing to read, I won’t recap it here.)
JellyNeo reports that members of the NeopetsMeta Discord server have been receiving direct messages from bot accounts, attempting to trick new NFT-buyers into scams disguised as freebie giveaways. (x)
...An issue that is somewhat magnified by the fact that the Discord server is doing a recruitment leaderboard-based giveaway around the same time. (Can you say ‘MLM’?) (x)
September 29:
Homophobic language is used in the NeopetsMeta Discord server (specifically the f-slur), and is not filtered out by its moderation bot. When this is brought to the attention of the actual human mod, he chucks a shitfit. It’s three hours before the offending message is deleted. (x) (x) Bonus points: “gay” is automatically filtered out. (x)
Side-tangent: it’s only been nine months since Neopets began allowing users to use terms such as “lesbian” and “transgender” on the site itself (”gay” is allowed by site rules, but still filtered out). Pride-themed merchandise is available in their store year-round. This is who they wanna partner with, huh. (x) (x)
September 30:
Continuing the streak of Discord drama, an admin channel on NeopetsMeta is accidentally made public. “Included in this channel was curated feedback gathered in private by mods from members of the community they valued. [...Regarding] suggestions for the future direction of Neopets Metaverse.”
The list of suggestions includes pushing TNT to release extra pet slots and release new UC (”Unconverted”/extremely rare) pets ahead of schedule, in order to “distract” players. (x) (x)
Entrants to Neopets’s weekly Beauty Contest (art competition) submit anti-NFT protest artwork. The winning entry is deleted from the listings, presumably for being a part of the protest. It is restored after users complain, but the New Features page notably does not list the winners and instead showcases the 2nd place artwork instead. (Quote 2nd place: “I'm really disappointed that they would use my art to censor the real winner. First place won fair and square.”) (x) (x) (x)
October:
The NeopetsMeta Discord moderator responsible for the aforementioned shitfit is kicked, with the staff issuing an apology... and he is replaced with a brand new discord account that definitely isn’t just him on a side account.
Neopets Metaverse releases their roadmap (plan for the future of the project). The roadmap lacks any dates or technical details and can thus be read more as a wishlist than an actual, tangible project.
Tl;dr - their ultimate intention is to fork (duplicate) the main site and make it entirely operate on blockchain items. ...So you’ll have to pay for literally everything. (x) (x)
Neopets Fansites organize a two-day blackout in protest, altering their homepages and encouraging players not to log into the main site. Participating fansites include JellyNeo, Dress To Impress, the Neopian Writer’s Forum, The Daily Neo, Reddit community r/Neopets, Lost And Pound, and more. (x)
Neopets fan artists get more subtle with their protest artwork, and a No-NFT image makes the site’s front page. (x)
@NeopetsMeta on twitter creates and posts a Soyjack meme calling people against the project “Hateooooors”. I took actual psychic damage from typing that. (x)
The tweet is deleted by NeopetsMeta after considerable backlash. The Wayback Machine archive is also deleted, though QRTs responding to the original (14-tweet long) thread remain. (x) (x) (x)
NeopetsMeta issues an official apology for the tweet. (x) The response from the community boils down to “get bent”. (x) (x)
A Reddit user who works in the NFT industry makes a post on r/Neopets explaining that what the team is doing can’t even properly be called a ‘Metaverse’. I’ll be honest, I didn’t understand a word of it, but here’s the link if you’re interested. (x)
The Neopets Team posts an official apology for this ongoing PR disaster to the NeoBoards. They assert that JumpStart does not support the bigoted beliefs held by the Metaverse staff, that JumpStart will start moderating the discord server, and that protest entries will now be permitted in the Beauty Contest. There are no plans to cancel the project. (Also, not really relevant but kinda funny - TNT member Petrichor is shuffled away from working on the site. She was Neopets’ community manager for a grand total of... three weeks. Hoooly shit.) (x)
The Neopets Metaverse discord server is raided (spammed) by protestors. The moderators respond by publicly doxxing one spammer’s instagram account. The ensuing harassment forces the spammer to delete their social media accounts, and two moderators involved in the incident are later booted from the server. (x)
Crypto-merch company Quidd announces it will be releasing its own line of Neopets-themed “digital collectibles”. While not necessarily NFTs, buyers have the option to mint them into Etherium-powered NFTs. (Aka, the crypto-service that’s most garbage for the environment.)
Just to be clear, JumpStart didn’t change companies. They’re now multi-track NFT drifting. ok. (x)
Quidd retracts its announcement of the project from both its social media and discord server within 24 hours: “In the case of the new [Neopets] channel, our partners wanted to put a little more time between another project that they dropped and our project. So, it's a delay, not a cancellation.” We’ll see, Quidd. We’ll see. (x)
Another protest image wins the Beauty Contest. Normally I wouldn’t consider this noteworthy but it is, as the kids say, rather sussy. (x) (x)
November (Pre-Sale):
An official price point for Metaverse NFTs is set - or rather, prices. The more that are sold, the more expensive future ones will become, until eventually they cap out at a whopping 4 SOL (approx $1000 usd). What’s more, the number of NFTs being sold is cut in half in order to promote a fear of missing out. (x)
It’s worth noting that even NFT buyers are unhappy with this plan, as it encourages bots to buy up the cheapest ones and discourages legitimate collectors. (x)(x)
9 hours prior to the NFTs going on sale, scam twitter account @NeopetMeta (singular ‘Neopet’) posts their own version of the site. At the time of writing, the dupe account has reportedly stolen 243 SOL (approx $55066 usd). (x)(x)(x)
Launch goes as expected, by which I mean “bots buy all the cheap stuff and hobbyists decide not to bother”. (x)
Legitimate buyers report being banned from the Discord for asking which account is the real account. (x) The invite link to the Discord channel is removed from the official twitter, possibly due to the scam account swarming them with bots.
November (Post-Sale):
The sale period ends. 42% of the stock is sold (approx. 8,707.5 SOL, or $2.1 million USD). The rest are “burnt” - made permanently unavailable. (x)
Obligatory right-clicking ensues. (x)
Post-sale statistics indicate that 1,000 NFTs were apparently sold before the sale went live - meaning that only 246 could be purchased at the base price by outsiders. (x)
A good number of images were generated incorrectly - fur clips through clothing, Transparent and Eventide pets are completely opaque, Wraith pets are missing their smoke effects, some only have one piece of clothing. Also, there’s only ten species, and 50% of pets have the Sad expression. (x) (x)
Fansite Dress To Impress openly questions how the images were generated and officially revokes any permissions the Metaverse team may have had to use their (pet image-generating) service. (x)
NetDragon issues a press release that goes over the details of the sale, believing it to be a “success” that garnered “strong interest” from the community. (x) (x)
Neopets gets a new marketing employee who is Pro-NFT. She is doxxed by angry players within the week. (x)
...So yeah, that’s where we are in this on-going shitfest. Will add new developments as they come!

Good luck candle + small good luck ideas
🐉🕯☘
I made this candle for myself for good luck regarding health, wealth, success, and for better RNG in video games, because fizzling in Wizard 101 is the most annoying thing ever.
What you need:
• Wax
• Silicone mold or glass jar
• Wick (you can look up how to make your own)
• Stick like thing like a chop stick or toothpick
• Pot to melt wax in
• Funnel
• Green candle dye- luck, prosperity, abundance, healing, and money
• Basil- attraction, healing, luck and money
• Cinnamon- power boost, luck, and success
• Lemon essential oil- luck and fulfillment
• Citrine- health, wealth, happiness, and abundance.
• Green adventurine- luck, prosperity, and money.
Making the Candle:
Put the pot on your stove with your wax inside and put on low to medium heat. When melted add your dye and essential oil with intention. You need around 30 to 40 drops of oil per every 8 ounces of wax. Stir your wax clockwise and state that you are inviting energies of luck, wealth, health, and success.
Take your wick and wrap it around a tooth pick and lay it across your jar or mold so the bottom of the wick is touching the bottom of your jar or mold.
Pour most of the wax in your jar or mold leaving a small bit in the pot. Let cool for at least 30 minutes.
Come back and place your herbs and crystals on top of your candle, charging them with your intention as you begin to melt your remaining wax on the stove.
Gently pour the remaining wax ontop of your candle partly covering your ingredients and securing them in place. Let candle cool for at least an hour.
Now is the time to write or carve a sigil onto your candle if you want to.
When you light the candle say "I am a magnet for all things good. I attract luck as I know i should. May positive energy surround my day And lucky opportunities come my way. May wealth, Health, and Success come my way and let it come here to stay."
A few gemstones you can carry around for additional luck are:
Malachite, Jade, Amazonite, Peridot, Garnet, Pyrite, Tigers eye, and Moldavite.
A LOT OF THESE CANNOT BE PUT IN CANDLES, DO YOUR RESEARCH.
If you live near water or a big field you can buy wishing lanterns to make a wish upon and send to the sky. Do you have a big test coming up? Wish to do good on it. Low on money? Wish to earn more.
Write a wish on a bay leaf and keep it in your wallet or burn it.
There are many fun little luck spells you could try, get creative!

My not so relatable co op experience™ with these mains
This is not a stereotype just my personal experiences in genshin. Take everything with a grain of salt or maybe just skip it entirely if you feel like you might be offended. The ones I've excluded? I dont see them often in co op.
Albedo
*drops flower* my job here is done,
Harbinger of dawn so gotta keep hp above 90%, understandable
*casually doing 20k per bloom dmg* wtf what u feeding him, spare some RNG luck
BENNETT
SON!!!!!!! AND PRECIOUS BOY!!!!!!!! Always welcomed in any domain, (except cwof maybe?) but yes best boy, best support and usually Bennet mains are pretty flexible, and more willing to use support character/healers in co op.
Diluc
I AM JEALOUS, SO SO JEALOUS. also I saw that wolves gravestone so please stop attacking randomly I just wanna take a photo with Diluc. Stay still for one minute dammit.
Eula
Fastest speed runs I've had in the emblem set domain was with a Eula main. Honestly, pretty straight to the point. 10/10 would do domains again. the enemies are always dead before that sword explodes :((((
Diona
Heh, you didn't get zhongli did you? Lmao sorry back to the point. Pretty chill but please give that shield asap, whenever the skill is off cooldown, my Ayaka is dying have mercy.
Ganyu
When someone uses ganyu I know that I can just chill and viola the challenge is already complete. Kinda scary with that 250+ crit damage tho 😳
Kazuha
Stop swirling Pyro dammit, I'm using blizzard strayer I need them affected by cryo 😭😭. But srsly inspite of that the melt dmg I get is just 😩👌
AYAKA
My queen and sweetheart 🥰 I am one myself and most of them are pretty co operative and polite. Entering everyone's world to get some Sakura blossoms,🥺 pls just let us have them. Also Shoutout to that one player who let me use my Ayaka in domain and used diona instead. Tysm for that cryo resonance <3
Raiden Shogun
80 energy cost what?? My burst is always up even before the cooldown ends. Just endless Ayaka Bursts everywhere, so thank you for that. Also pls u are immune to electro charged I am not, stop using your skill and killing me with water nearby 😭
Xiao
Our boy is a glass canon 😔 those 50k per plunge don't come easy and I understand. Not having that NRE equiped in a team with no healers? Then realising it mid battle? ouch
Zhongli
Actual lifesavers, c2 zhongli! ? BLESSING. Especially in event domian like energy amplifier. As soon as we got a c2 zhongli haver in our team that challenge became cakewalk. (we were trying for the last hour at least) word of advise always have a friend with c2 zhongli, you don't know when you might need them next
KOKOMI
I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU, 😩♥️ WHEN I SEE A KOKOMI IN CO OP I FEEL LIKE I CAN USE XIAO WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT ANYTHING. THE SWEETEST AND WHOLESOME WILL NOT LET YOUR HP GO LOW AT ALL!!!!!!
I appreciate you guys a lot - sincerely a xiao main
Childe
Shoutout to veteran childe players, I mean after I go back to range stance idfk what to do, aiming is hard😔. Crit rate barely going above 47% 😞 it's a universal struggle also are those 10/10/10 talents I see 👀?
Jean
🤔 Most I've played with are just standard healers and I've never been yeeted by one either. I thought this was a sacred act that Jean mains must perform in co op? :( then why exclude me?
Venti
That back hole every is active all the time, do you not have any cooldown? How much ER do you have???
Hu tao
First to die or never die at all. No in between, also how does it feel like living in the cwof domain? How much of your soul did u sell for that crit circlet?
+new addition
Noelle
You scare me

Art Career Tips, 2021 Edition
Here’s an edited version of my 2019 answered ask, because... this feels relevant.
It is a problem of capitalism that folks equate their income as a judgement of their value as people; and let me preface. You are worth so much. You have inherent value in this world. Your income is not a judgement on who you are (plenty of billionaires are actively making the world worse). LARPing self-confidence will go a long way to helping you get paid more for your work, because clients will believe that you know what you are doing, and are a professional.
& real quick—my own background is that I’ve been living off my art since 2018. I went to art school (Pratt Institute). I work in a publishing/educational materials sphere, and a quarter of my income is my shop. Not all of this information may apply to you, so it is up to you to look through everything with a critical eye, and spot pick what is relevant.
So there are multiple ways of getting income as an artist;
Working freelance or full-time on projects
Selling your stuff on a shop
Licensing (charging other companies to use your designs)
This post primarily covers the freelance part; if you’re interested in the other bits there is absolutely info out there on the internet.
IF you are just starting (skip to next section if not applicable) dream big, draw often (practice helps you get better/more efficient), do your best to take "a bad piece” lightly. You’re gonna RNG this shit. At some point your rate of “good” works will get higher. Watch tutorial videos & read books. A base understanding of “the rules”; anatomy, perspective, composition, color helps you know what the rules are to break them. This adds sophistication to your work. One way you can learn this stuff is by doing “studies”—you’re picking apart things from life, or things other people have done, to see what works, and how it works.
Trying to turn your interests into a viable career means that you are now a SMALL BUSINESS; it really helps to learn some basic marketing, graphic design, figure out how to write polite customer service emails; etc. You can learn some of this by looking it up, or taking skillshare (not sponsored) classes by qualified folks. Eventually some people may get agents to take care of this for them—however, I do recommend y’all get a basic understanding of what it takes to do it on your own, just so you can know if your agent is doing a good job.
Making sure your portfolio fits the work you want to get
Here is a beginner portfolio post.
Research the field you’d like to get into. The amount people work, the time commitment, the process of making the thing, the companies & people who work for them.
Create work that could fit in to the industry you’re breaking into. For example, if you want to do book cover illustration, you draw a bunch of mockup book covers, that can either be stuff you make up, or redesigns of existing books. If you’re not 100% sure what sort of work is needed for the industry, loop back into the portfolios of artists in a similar line of work as whatever you’re interested in, and analyze the things they have in common. If something looks to be a common project (like a sequence of action images for storyboard artists), then it’s probably something useful for the job.
CLIENTS HIRE BASED ON HOW WELL THEY THINK YOUR WORK FITS WHAT THEY WANT. If they’re hiring for picture books, they’re gonna want to see picture book art in your portfolio, otherwise they may not want to risk hiring you. Doesn’t have to be 100% the project, but stuff similar enough. If you aren’t hired, it doesn’t mean your work is bad, it just wasn’t the right fit for that specific client.
If you have many interests, make a different section of your portfolio for each!
Making sure you’re relevant
Have a social media that’s a little more public-facing, and follow people in the career field you’re interested in. Fellow artists, art directors, editors, social media managers; whoever. Post on your own schedule.
Interact with their posts every so often, in a non-creepy way.
If you’ve made any contacts, great! Email these artists, art directors, editors, former professors, etc occasional updates on your work to stay in touch AND make sure that they think about you every so often.
Show up to general art events every once in a while! If you keep showing up to ones in your area (when... not dying from a sneeze is a thing), folks will eventually start to remember you.
Industry events & conferences can be pricey, so attend/save up for what makes sense for you. Industry meetups are important for networking in person! In addition to meeting people with hiring power, you also connect with your peers in the community. Always bring a portfolio & hand out business cards like candy.
Active job hunting
Apply to job postings online.
If interested in working with specific people at specific companies, you could send an email “I’d love to work with you, here’s my portfolio/relevant experience”, even if they aren’t actively looking for new hires. Be concise, and include a link to your work AND attached images so the person reading the email can get a quick preview before clicking for more.
Twitter job postings can be pretty underpaid! Get a copy of the Graphic Artists’ Guild Handbook Pricing & Ethical Guidelines to know your rate. I once had a twitter post job listing email me back saying that other illustrators were charging less, and I quote, “primarily because they’re less experienced and looking for their first commission”. This was not okay! For reference, this was a 64-illustration book. The industry rate of a children’s book (~36 pages) is $10k+, and this company’s budget was apparently $1k. For all of it.
Congrats you got a job! Now what?
Ask for like, 10% more than they initially offer and see if they say yes. If they do, great! If not, and the price is still OK, great! Often company budgets are slightly higher than they first tell you, and if you get this extra secret money, all the better for you.
Make sure you sign a contract and the terms aren’t terrible (re: GO GET THE Graphic Artists’ Guild Handbook Pricing & Ethical Guidelines)
Be pleasant and easy to work with (Think ‘do no harm but take no shit’)
Communicate with them as much as needed! If something’s going to be late, tell them as soon as you know so they aren’t left wondering or worse, reaching out to ask what’s up.
And if all goes well, they’ll contact you about more jobs down the line, or refer you to other folks who may need an artist, etc.
Quick note about online shops/licensing and why they’re so good
It’s work that you do once, that you continuously make money off of. Different products do well in different situations (conventions vs. online, and then further, based on how you market/the specific groups you are marketing to), so products that may not do well initially may get a surge later on.
Start with things that have low minimum order quantity and are relatively cheap to produce, like prints and stickers.
If you are not breaking even, go back to some of the earlier portions of this and think about how you could tweak things as a small business. Ease of access is also very important with this; for example, if you only take orders through direct messages, that immediately shuts off all customers who don’t like talking to strangers.
Quick resource that you could look through; it’s the spreadsheet of project organizing that I made a while back
Licensing is when people pay you for the right to use your work on stuff they need to make, like textbooks or greeting cards. This is generally work you’ve already made that they are paying the right to use for a specified time or limited run of products. This is great because you’ve already done the work. I am not the expert on this. Go find someone else’s info.
“I am not physically capable of working much”/ “I need to pay the bills”
Guess who got a hand injury Sept 2020 that messed me up that entire month! I had a couple jobs going at the time that I was terrified of losing, but they were quite understanding when I told them I needed to heal. So: Express your needs as early as you know you need them. Also do lots of stretches and rest your hands whenever you feel anything off; this will save your health later. Like, the potential of a couple months of no income was preferable over losing use of my hands for the rest of my life.
This continues to apply if you have any other life situation. Ask for extra time. Ask for clarification. If you tell people ahead of time, folks are often quite understanding. Know how much you are capable of working and do your best not to overdo it. (I am.. bad at this)
Do what MAKES SENSE for your situation. If doing art currently earns you less money than organizing spreadsheets, then do that for now, and whenever you have the energy, break down some of the tips above into actionable tiny chunks, and slowly work at em.
The original ask I got in 2019 mentioned ‘knowing you’re not good enough yet’. Most artists experience imposter syndrome & self-doubt—the important thing is to do your best, and if anything, attempt to channel the confidence of a mediocre white man. If he can apply to this job/charge hella money for Not Much, then so can you!

Legendary Gauntlet Teams - Moltres
Moltres is here at last, and now we weep for the days to come. Yes, I have finally gotten to test some teams against this thing and see what I can accomplish against it, and I have to say...no thanks, bro.
General Overview Let’s cut right to the chase: there is not a single team that can beat this fight reliably. I am dead serious. Everything about this fight is 100% dependent on your ability to shift the weather, and at present, there are two units who can do that on sync in a way that doesn’t involve Sun: Palentine’s Bea, and Summer Steven. Everyone else is either Sun, or a move like Rain Dance. Moltres will change the weather to Sun five times: once at the start of each phase, and at the halfway point of phases 2 and 3. Weather is permanent, and only changes when a move or ability manually adjusts it, so you cannot wait it out. And the list of effects it gets under Sun is...frankly insane.
Speeding Sun 3 - move gauge is never a problem
Sunny Sure Hit - It can’t miss when it’s sunny.
Sunny Disposition - Immune to debuffs while sunny.
Solar Shield - Immune to status while sunny. Note this is status conditions like poison, not changes like flinch, trap, or confuse. It starts with Lessen 7 on it, and wouldn’t you know it, sometimes it will activate a skill that boosts its resistance into immunity. So flinch is a temporary solution too, what a surprise.
Solar Charge - Its moves get stronger. 30% phase 1, 50% phase 2, 70% phase 3.
Solar Flare - Its sync gets stronger. Same multipliers.
I forget the name, but it heals in Sun starting phase 2.
Sunny Daze - Seems to be a Sun-based defense crush.
I forget the name, but it burns guaranteed under sun. Starts in phase 2, when it leads with Heat Wave, so remember Entei’s last bar? How about that but all the time?
And these are just the Sun-based skills. At the start of the fight, your whole team is hit with -2 speed. It leads with Leer, and has a skill that makes Leer also debuff speed by 1. So you’re starting out with -3 speed, it can speed itself up with Flame Charge, has move gauge acceleration in Sun, and it’s slowly chipping away your defense stat. It’s immune to status and to debuffs, massively powers up its attacks both from the natural Sun multiplier of 50% and the skills it gets, and eventually starts healing with phase 3 healing for nearly 5k per action, AND it guaranteed burns the entire party in phase 2. Did I miss anything?
“But hey, it’s weak to Rock, right? So any sufficiently powerful Rock-type unit with disruptive partners can manage, right?” ... “...right?” Yeah, it switches to Water-weak on bar 2, then back to Rock. It didn’t even have the decency to be weak to one type.
Useful Units Okay so with all that said, who’s good? In merciful compensation, its base stats seem to be fairly low. Even with Sun up, in phase 3 where it got 120% bonus damage on sync, it dealt only around 400 to Summer Steven in my last test. That’s honestly not too devastating given the multipliers, and should tell you what you need to know. Without Sun, this thing can barely scratch you if you’ve got defensive buffs applied, or offensive debuffs applied.
Ghetsis is probably the best F2P damage dealer to bring to this fight. Under an alternate weather, Double Drop Noble Roar with Pecking Order and Devastation absolutely blasts this thing. Adding in Glaciate’s speed drops, and Ghetsis can deal really respectable damage.
Acerola has Sandstorm and a one-gauge flinch move in Astonish, which is just about the best set of tools out there for this fight. Unfortunately, it’s Acerola, so good luck with that.
Candice isn’t terrible, but she is weak to Fire, so you need to really be on your game for her to succeed. MPR is always a must but this is super true for Candice, who absolutely cannot take a Sun-boosted attack at all.
May is effective, but is a good example that even premium options are horrifically at the mercy of RNG. I thought a team comp of Lana, May, and Princess Hilda would be great, but we ran out of MPR for bar 3, and its single Heat Wave boosted by Sun and Solar Charge 7 one-shot the entire party from around 70% HP. You cannot be under Sun and win.
The only unit with any kind of consistency is Palentine’s Bea. She has just enough room on her grid for Vigilance, immunity to defense debuffs, buffing her own defenses per action under Hail, Hail on sync, and double Potion MPR. If you drop Vigilance you can maybe take Aggravation, and hope to god that works. But you need to time her sync moves exactly right to keep it from just obliterating your team anyway, and that means she needs to be paired with allies who can deal super high damage off of basic attacks, to time the sync just right.
But all that in mind, before I get to the important section, I need you to understand: there is no 100% F2P aligned team that can beat this. There just isn’t. Skyla can’t buff special defense, and your team will drop when it changes to Overheat spam. Sycamore can’t keep up, and can’t heal up allies who take hits. This is the most anti-F2P fight out there, and so while I can make team recommendations, I need it to be understood that I tried my damnedest on this and could not get anything under the purely F2P bucket to succeed. I barely got what I do have to succeed.
Teambuilding Team 1: Leaf, Candice, Ghetsis At time of writing, I have spent 2.5 hours on this fight, trying a variety of teams to make something work. This is, at present, the only team that did it in one go. Ghetsis’ Double Drop minimizes damage effectively, and the speed drops are a huge help. Bar 1 is using sync on Leaf three times to cap out all stats for the team, while Ghetsis does his debuff thing. Bars 2 and 3 are getting Ghetsis to sync and letting him nuke for like 28k. Candice is incredibly hard to keep alive, and if you don’t get that Hail up right at phase change, or are surprised by the Hail chip damage, she is dead. I’m not sure but I think Leaf needs to hit Staggering too. It’s a rough life out here.
Team 2: Halloween Caitlin, Princess Hilda, Acerola Took half an hour to find something that worked with Acerola, and it turns out that’s largely because of MPR on Sandstorm being so inconsistent. Olivia might, MIGHT be able to do it in place of Hilda, but I’m not certain of that. Nor will I go back and check. I hate this fight.
Team 3: Sabrina, Cyrus, May Cyrus continues to be off-type dominant. Barely, I might add. May needed MPR, and with only one, still managed it somehow. That somehow was EX Sabrina making sure Cyrus’ Hydro Pumps got us where we needed to go in time, and taking out 8k after Moltres was down to a bit left then healed 4.5k after one-shotting May with Overheat. It’s bad out here, guys. It’s real bad out here.
Final Thoughts That’s all I’ve got. I have now been at this for 3.5 hours, and those three teams are the only ones I can make work with any kind of consistency. I thought Summer Steven could do it, and honestly he came a lot closer than I ever expected him to, but it’s just so hard to deal with the idea of having his sync up right as Moltres goes down to passive Hail damage. It’s really, really hard to get the timing just right amidst everything else going on in the fight.
Moltres is absurd. I thought it would be the worst fight, and it definitely is, but somehow I undersold how bad this is. I think most people are going to immediately realize this as a multi-unit approach. It’s that bad, guys. It’s actually that bad.

I originally drafted a post about how "reach out and grasp" came to be, but then went "no, this is far too self-indulgent" and resolved not to make such a post
but then I remembered that this is my blog and self-indulgence is literally the entire point
so!
Where did the idea come from?
Depends on which part of the idea you're talking about!
On December 24, 2018, 18 days after EA began, I first encountered the "Fury" remembrance screen ("One thing the mortals have on us is how quickly they become men. This is the Fury Megaera. She will accelerate the process in your case.") Within twenty-four hours I had committed myself to an "arranged marriage" interpretation of this line. I have not significantly wavered since. (When I have wavered, I have remembered that Zagreus claims he originally tried not to get emotionally attached to Megaera, which fortifies my certainty that Hades did indeed intend a relationship between the two rather than Megaera just being another tutor.)
Eventually, sometime after Thanatos existed and it was clear he was also a love interest, I concluded that at some point during the engagement, he and Megaera got in an argument about...... uh...... "which one of them is a better influence on the incorrigible Zagreus." Definitely not "which one of them better deserves to spend time with Zagreus and be romantically associated with him." No way, definitely not. And then didn't speak until after the MegZag breakup. After the MegZag breakup, their friendship "returned to normal." Of course it returned to normal, why would either of them resent each other over a thing like Zagreus? Now that's just ridiculous. (If you've read "reach out and grasp," you have seen that I do not think their friendship entirely repairs at this point.)
In February 2020, I decided to investigate the game files for funsies. There, I discovered several very interesting things about what jealousy-flavored lines become available and unavailable when. You can see some of my analysis of those discoveries here, but it was at this point that I really became interested in writing how Megaera and Thanatos worked out their jealousy, because I was still frustrated that they were obviously jealous early on in the romance progressions but blow Zagreus off if he asks about it once he's dating them. Relying on the conclusions from various line requirements, and working exclusively in a "Thanatos first, Megaera second" version of things (thanks to the blurse of my own RNG), I settled on a headcanon that at some point, around the eighth gift to Megaera, she and Thanatos had a conversation that resolved the lion's share of the awkward resentment they'd been feeling since the above bullet point, which resolved Thanatos's jealousy (hence locking his "you sure have been seeing a lot of Megaera lately" line) but did not fully make up Megaera's mind (which is why her "I'm sure Death will welcome you with open arms" line stays open a little longer). Therefore I envisioned a second conversation after the completion of both romance arcs where they actually got on the same page about things. (Again, if you've read ROAG, this should be sounding intensely familiar.)
Over the course of several months, several attempts were made to write either of the conversations described in the above bullet point. All ended in failure and frustration.
Additionally, I spent much of early quarantine settling on a headcanon in which Meg and Than have never been romantically/sexually interested in each other, but have often been perceived as such throughout the Underworld, to some degree of discomfort. Then Blood Price (June 2020) swoops in with some Official info about how Than and Meg became close (over Sisyphus) and also adding the the canon threesome scene, which I am on the record as not being terribly fond of for various reasons. That I had just spent three IRL-unusually-miserable months deciding that Meg and Than are slightly repulsed by being thought of as romantically attached is a significant part of this as well. Blood Price was a time!
Anyway. Shortly before 1.0 I stumbled across a list of ship domesticity questions, which got me thinking about marriage between the MZT trio. This was when I decided "well, I don't think MegZag want to get married after what they've already been through with each other, but what about ThanZag? Oh for sure. And what does that feel like for Meg when they do, then?" Again this should be sounding familiar...
A fic?
As I was thinking about that last bullet point above, I began to push a series of several headcanons together: I envisioned a series of events in which Megaera, half-sarcastically, asks Thanatos where her congratulations for being engaged to Zagreus are; in which Meg apologizes for not congratulating Than on getting together with Zag a bit quicker due to being slower to resolve her own jealousy; in which Meg sincerely and easily congratulates Than at his wedding to Zagreus.
Parallelism being an irresistible catnip to me, thus was born the first inklings of what I for a very long time called "hinge" or "hinge fic." A fic focusing on how Zagreus, placed at the "hinge" between Megaera and Thanatos, allowed them to become closer friends. The original idea, which I did attempt to start writing before 1.0, was going to be formatted as a series of narrative passages covering a wide period of time alternating with three specific tension-filled, or tension-relieving, conversations between Meg and Than. "Isn't that just ROAG" you may ask, if you don't understand just how brief I meant to be with the narrative passages. I will allow you to look at the first one (the only one I really wound up writing) here but you're not allowed to judge me for it because I'm already telling you it's not very good. This was meant to be followed by another paragraph or two about "OK actually Meg and Zag kind of like each other" before leaping right into the Meg-Than argument about which one of them should get to marry Zag would be a better influence on the irresponsible prince.
Then 1.0 happened and not only was I consumed with actually playing the game a whole lot and writing fic responding to the game's ending, but then I hurt my hand and couldn't write at all for a month and was miserable etc etc etc
Then I started seeing the Big Bang advertised and thought that an external commitment and a deadline might be just the things I needed to get these damn headcanons into a fic already.
So how was the writing process?
It was absolute hell! Thank you for asking.
I mean, when I started writing while considering the Big Bang, back in December, I hadn't even 100% made up my mind that it was a Meg character study. I did decide on that much pretty quickly, but where should it start? I wavered on including the Sisyphus chapter and originally thought I was starting with "Hey Meg you're engaged now :)". But I wanted to have a bit about Meg and Than's friendship so as to make it more emotionally charged when that friendship starts deteriorating, which meant I had to write the Sisyphus chapter, and my first several attempts at the Sisyphus chapter (December-February) had no sense of emotional uniting theme. Oh my god they were so bad. Oh my god chapter 1 was so hard. I suffered. The turning point was when I stuck a bunch of post-it notes on a wall to track the emotional arc of the entire fic and wound up concluding that I needed to start with Meg and Than meeting over their Chthonic Companions--thereby pretty much tossing every word of chapter 1 I'd written so far in the garbage can. I could immediately, within seconds, tell that this was going to be much better, and I swore copiously about it.
Even after that, it took me several drafts of the entire fic to figure out what the emotional theme was, to figure out what specific story I was telling about Meg. And with each theme I tried on, I had to rewrite entire conversations so that they were on that theme. Several times over. The conversation between Meg and Than just before Zag escapes for the first time--which, you remember, I had wanted to write since February 2020--took much wrangling.
But how satisfying when it actually started to come together!
The thing is I have never before written something that the first draft was so bad and had to rewrite it over and over and eventually turn it into something that was actually good. Something I felt proud of! I've never had this happen before. If I hadn't committed to the Big Bang, I would have given up. And ROAG wouldn't exist. I am considering this experience with great seriousness and trying to learn from it.

RP Log: Cravs and Rising go on a disastrous hike.
Cravendy Hound has invited Rising to “relaxing hike through Sorrel Haven,” despite the area being infested by countless malboros and ziz. She leaves off that part - it’s not lying if you just don’t mention it. For now, she waits by the exit of the White Wolf gate for her companion.
Rising Lotus wasn't too far behind Cravendy, strolling through the gate a few minutes later and catching up to her. "Hey there!" as she was hurrying over her eyes gazed upwards toward the giant fallen tree. "Gods, it's crazy how huge they get out here, I guess by the company home too, but like," she outstretched her hands around her.
Rising Lotus: "Out in the forest forest the trees get so big here! "
Cravendy Hound: “Ye know, I’ve ‘eard that they’re just as tall below ground. What poor sod ‘ad to be the one to dig one up and find that out though, eh?” Cravs shrugs.
Rising Lotus rubbed her chin. "Maybe they dug out a littler one and jus' figured it was the same? Or not the same, but figured, bigger the tree bigger the roots." she returned the shrug, she was no botanist after all.
Cravendy Hound rubs her chin. “Mmh, that makes sense. But ‘ell if I know ‘ow trees work, specially out ‘ere in the Shroud.” She then absentmindedly fiddles with her gun as she turns to face the forest. “Anyway, let’s ‘ead out and ‘ope nothin’ interrupts our walk...though with my luck, we should expect the worst.”
Rising Lotus nodded, putting her hands behind her head afterwards. "I'm sure there ain't nothin' we can't handle. I /am/ back to full strength after all." she flashed a cocky grin. "Lead on!"
Cravendy Hound leads on, past stalking brood ziz and to the oddly named ‘Hopeseed Pond.’ She wrinkles her nose upon seeing the weird, planty...meaty? Plant-meat creatures wading around. “Ye know what, I don’t know what I was thinkin’ bringin’ us ‘ere. If one of those boros breath on ye, ye’ll be sick once again.”
Rising Lotus is calm despite the wildlife all around them. "Ugh..can smell their maws from here.." her eyes dropped to the bridge, then back to the pond full of ravenous giant plants. "Gonna go out on a limb an' say not many folk use this bridge no more." she pauses for a moment. "Hey! Why you so sure it's gonna get me sick!" she huffed a bit.
Rising Lotus: "I mean one ain't breathed on me yet and I wanna keep it that way, but it could jus' as easily hit you. Plus! Me being sick last week was jus'...a fluke."
Cravendy Hound playfully bumps Rising’s shoulder with her fist. “Aye, right right, a fluke. As for me, I never get sick. So if one of these boros come our way, ye can just stand behind me, heh.” She then takes a step on the rickety bridges and observes how...well. Gross it is? The whole area is pretty gross? Rotten wood and stagnant waters and looming monsters - but a little danger never hurt anyone.
Rising Lotus cracked a smirk. "Well to be honest I'm more worried about the smell then gettin' sick, but if you wanna take the brunt of it for me.." she was sure to follow behind Cravs as she started across the bridge, testing each plank with her foot before putting her weight on it.
Cravendy Hound is not nearly as careful as Rising, and strides forward with all the confidence in the world. She inadvertently steps onto a weakened plank of wood, which snaps under her weight. She falls, one leg stuck in the gap. “Goddamned shite piece of wood!”
Cravendy Hound: “I think ye were right about people not comin’ ‘ere often...” She grumbles under her breath.
Rising Lotus was caught off guard by Crav sinking down, more by her reaction than the actual board breaking. She carefully hurried behind her. "You didn't get cut up at all did ya?" She was right behind Cravs, looking over her shoulder and trying to peer down the hole. "Here lets get ya out of there.." kneeling down, she hooked her hands under Crav's shoulders.
Rising Lotus: "I'll pull ya slowly, you jus' make sure you don't get torn up or a nasty splinter on the way up."
Cravendy Hound: “I don’t need ye fussin’ over me like some freshfaced whelp, I got it,” Cravs stammers as she wiggles left and right in attempt to wiggle herself free from Rising’s help. “Don’t ye worry yer pretty lil’ face, it’ll take more than a splinter to down ol’ Cravs.”
Cravendy Hound - However, as she tries to pull herself up, she feels something keeping her ankle held down. That’s odd. And, more embarrassingly, she’s still stuck after being so confident earlier. The more she struggles, the deeper her leg sinks. By now, Cravs is sweating bullets.
Rising Lotus was still concerned, but she did get it, being incredibly stubborn herself at times. She released Cravs and stood back up. "Alright alright, I shouldn't of doubted ya." snickering a bit, she took a step back, giving her friend the space she might need to escape. "I'll make sure nothin' comes by to maybe take a bite of a delicious leg wigglin' under the bridge..an' I'll give ya a heads up if any travelers are comin' too."
Cravendy Hound - To this, Cravs only grunts in response. Coherent thoughts escape her under the immense embarrassment she’s currently dealing with. If Rising were to look under the bridge, she’d find a juvenile stroper idly tugging on Crav’s leg. Every time the Sea wolf tries to lunge out, it pulls her back down by the foot with greater force.
Rising Lotus was still waiting for her friend to free herself, keeping an eye on the bigger stroper's minding their own business thankfully. "Alright no need to make a big show out of it all, stop stallin' before you fall all the way through." she was biting her lower lip gently to stifle a bit of laughter. "You stuck on somethin'? Want me to peek under the bridge?" she started toward the edge, more so to try and catch a glimpse of Crav's leg comically wiggling under it.
Cravendy Hound: “‘Suppose the Navigator saw fit to destroy what little remains of me pride, right ‘ere and now.” Cravs crumples against the bridge and sighs against the wood. “Aye, yeah, it feels like somethin’s got my foot. Can ye see what it is?”
Rising Lotus quickly got to her knees and stuck her head over the side of the bridge, eager to see what manner of thing had snagged the Seawolf. "Oh! It's a baby one of these things!" she waved an arm out to the pond. "Luckily his teeths don't look too sharp yet, still has a good grip on ya though." Cravs would hear a bit of snorting and giggling coming from under the bridge. Rising grabbed her spear off her back, not bothering to start up aetherial blade, and started jabbing at the small stroper, not aiming to hurt it really, but just shoo it off. "Go on get ya lil bastard!"
(Cravendy Hound) you know what I'm feeling spicy )) (Cravendy Hound) Random! 19 (Cravendy Hound) aaahahha )) (Rising Lotus) Well then, bye leg!))
Cravendy Hound - The young Stroper turns to Rising and squirms in an attempt to dodge the jabs. It succeeds...that is, it succeeds in annoying it. It puffs up a bit and then charges at Rising in an attempt to knock her down. But as it does so, it fails to loosen its grip on Cravs, and the sudden motion tugs the Seawolf completely through the half-rotten boardwalk.
Cravendy Hound: “WHAT THE FU-” Cravs gets out before she falls face first into the slimy malboro.
(Cravendy Hound) I love a good bad roll )) (Rising Lotus) How big is it, like minion malboro sized or bigger?)) (Cravendy Hound) hmm I'm taking that Stroper nearby as adult, and the giant one as grandpa )) (Cravendy Hound) so teen = half of the adult size? )) (Rising Lotus) Okays! Also grandpa malboro x3))
Rising Lotus's eyes went wide as she saw Cravs fall through the bridge, all upside down from her perspective. "Ah shit!" pulling herself back up, she swung her legs over the side of the walkway and hopped down, shuddering as the mud she landed in seeped into her sandal boots. With Cravs so close to the beast, she didn't dare turn the blade to her lance on. Instead she reeled back then attempted to give it a good thwap across to the side of it's toothy mug
Random! Rising Lotus rolls a 224.
Cravendy Hound - Thwap! The beast is taken aback by Rising’s attack and, being young and inexperienced, decides to hightail it outta there. Cravs is taken along for the ride.
Cravendy Hound: “Overgrown, squid-looking plant bastard - argh!” As she’s dragged along the ground, she fumbles for her pistol and attempts to send a couple of rounds towards her captor.
Random! You roll a 55.
Cravendy Hound misses. Even worse, she drops her gun. Cravs goes limp, just...unable to take much more embarrassment.
(Cravendy Hound) lmao the RNG gods have something against me today xD ))
Rising Lotus grinned at the direct hit, quickly grimacing after it took off with Cravs in tow. "Oh gods damnit!" with a huff and a twist of her wrist the aetherial blade sparked alive. "Alright, uh, Cravs! Try to keep yourself high!" she was able to easily keep up with the stropper's wiggling legs, and when she got in range she aimed a mighty swipe across it's lower half, hoping to separate its top half from its bottom half.
(Rising Lotus) Random! 957 (Rising Lotus) That's causee the all the luck is mine \o/ )) (Cravendy Hound) all the luck!!! ))
Cravendy Hound - The swing separates the stroper into two. On both ends, its limbs continue to wiggle around like landlocked eels, but despite its continued movement, the monster is clearly dead. Or at least downed - who knows how malboros work.
Cravendy Hound gets up, completely covered in mud and malboro slime. She wipes her face clean with the side of her arm, revealing a very pissed off expression. For a moment, she simply stands there, dazed. She had said so herself earlier, that something bad was going to happen...but there was no preparing for something like this. Eventually, she glances over at Rising.
Cravendy Hound: “.............That happened.”
Rising Lotus quite pleased with her slice, she started to the the lifeless maw to help Cravs up, though didn't make much distance before she got up on her own. As she stowed her spear, she was doing her absolute best to not laugh as she saw the woman wearing a nice coat of ooze. It was when Cravs cleaned her face she lost her composure, snickering softly at first but quickly bursting into full out bellowing laughter.
Rising Lotus: " I-I-I'm sorry! I-I Am!" she started to snort a bit as she laughed, quickly cupping a hand to her mouth as her cheeks blushed a bit. "R-Really...aha... I'm glad you're alright!" she snorted once more before her laughter started to ease down.
Cravendy Hound is as still as a statue, save for the mud that slorgs down her body at a painfully slow speed. Cravs then lets her head go limp as a sort of mischievous intent grows within her. Once Rising is done laughing, she lifts her head back up with an evil grin on her face. “OH, oho...no need to apologize! After all, ye saved my ‘ide. Now let me give ye a proper thank ye.”
Cravendy Hound spreads her slime and mud covered arms, and then tries to hug (though it’s more of a tackle) Rising to the ground.
Rising Lotus "N-Now wai-" she had just put up her hands to try and halt Cravendy's assault when her muddy form smacked against Rising, both of them falling onto the ground with a splat. Rising laid there motionless for a few moments as Cravs pinned her down before. "You ass!" she finally blurted out, scrambling to push the sea wolf off of her now mud covered self.
Cravendy Hound is already one with the mud - she cannot be muddied any further. She cackles gleefully as she’s pushed over. “Thank ye kindly, oh noble adventurer!” It takes a good while for her to calm down enough to do anything but laugh from the ground. When she’s finally able to get up, she plods over to pick up her gun and flicks the mud off of it. “Ahh...haha. Hah.”
Rising Lotus quickly sat up after Cravs was pushed off, the entire back of her form coated in the sludge. The front was covered quite a bit too, front the tackle hug and the stuff the the ground that seeped over. As she tried to get up she shuddered, the openness of her outfit probably to blame. "Ugh...it's.. it's.." she shuddered once more. Needless to say she'd need a deep cleaning.
Cravendy Hound: “If we ‘ike to the end of the trail, all of this shits gonna ‘arden on us like a second skin. I’m ‘eadin’ back afore that ‘appens,” Cravs states as she gives her gun a good lookover. Poor thing had mud clogging up its every opening, and water was never good for metal. Better hurry. She turns to Rising. “A dip in the pools round the Lavender Beds should be enough.”
Rising Lotus nodded. "Aye.. probably don't want us trackin' this through the house either..." she started scraping off as much as she could. "Gods, it was bad enough the first time this happened.." she stomped through the muck to the shore, boots full of mud by now. "Though last time this happened it wasn't friendly fire." she shot a sneer toward Cravs, chuckling softly soon after.
Cravendy Hound - With every step, the two became less Roegadyn and more akin to mudmen. And on their way back to the FC, many civilians, just going on their day to day lives, would stop to stare. Thankfully, the walk wasn’t especially long, and the lake surrounding the Lavender Beds would do a fine job of washing them clean, though the stench lingered. A proper bath was certainly necessary after the fact.
