Some thoughts about the politics happening right now as someone who has a mild interest in such things. Mostly bc I need to throw my thoughts out somewhere.

This has lit a fire in politics. In the Democratic Party and in younger voters. Because this was the same old race last time between two old and unpopular candidates that most ppl don’t want. (Would have voted for, but didn’t really like.) But now that’s potentially changed.

Many democratic ppl would have voted for Biden with a sign, not wanting Trump to win. But I think Biden dropping out breathes fresh air into unsure and pessimistic voters.

Also Biden apparently got covid again recently, with his age who knows how long he will live. Him getting covid and not backing out would have probably made ppl mad. So this is the better outcome. (It’ll take an act of god for me to drop out *gets covid*.)

Many of the positive things that Biden has pushed for has gotten him the following he has, and the Democratic Party should know that. So I doubt that another candidate would not be progressive. At least they would not be as openly against the progressive moves he has made. Also as many have been saying, “we have to vote democrat to keep Trump from winning.” That should not change if it is Biden or Kamala.

Apparently a big reason for him backing out was internal pressure and large doners backing out. Is there a broader message to normal ppl that gathering and speaking out for what they want can matter? Could that lead to more organization and grass roots campaigns in the future. (A small hopeful little thought I wanted to add.)

Kamala Harris would be the best to follow up as the Democratic Nominee. She’s already VP, so there is a precedent for her to be President. For Biden to endorse her would make the transition smooth for any Democratic votes who wanted Biden instead. She will need a straight white guy as her VP though.

Kamala Harris is a lot younger than Biden or Trump. She also hasn’t come up a lot in recent news for things? How much does the average person who pays little attention actually know of Kamala Harris. Being unknown, but still very involved in the office on that front is likely good.

How would republican attack ads go against Kamala? Sure you could add on the Biden stuff and pin her name as a supporter of Biden. Are they gonna make good enough attacks ads in this short time?

I do believe the Democratic Party has been preparing pro-Kamala Harris ads for a little while at least lol. I mean, *gestures to Biden* yeah.

Republican strategy has to change. The way Trump prepares for debates will have to change. They’ll hate that. Compared to Biden, there is a lot of unknowns.

This is a big risk, but there was also trouble if Biden stayed in the race. If he had to do more debates against Trump, more interviews to “prove” to the public that he was mentally capable, getting covid, etc. To be honest, I cannot image this being worse than if Biden stayed in. It’s an unknown, and that’s scary. But…I don’t think it’s gonna be as rough going forward. Transition phase may be a bit rocky but.

As long as the Democratic Party can unify and mostly align together under one candidate it’ll be ok. Also not to say the usual, but make sure you vote.

On Tumblr, disinformation, and learning how the fuck to evaluate sources so you don't share false information

So. Many. People. on this site uncritically reblog disinformation/fakenews/misinformation/reality denying posts/etc., which really hurts now, since we should all know at this point that there are bad actors using social media to deliberately spread false information for their own ends. This is something that frustrates me deeply as an IS professional and as a regular, generally educated human. You don't need to help psyops or hate groups by spreading their misinformation friends. It's hard to tell what the truth is sometimes, I get that, especially in today's climate where right-wing bad actors have done their damnedest to muddy the waters of truth in harmful ways, and where information is basically laser beaming itself onto your eyeballs at a dizzingy speed with the power of the internet.

I'll admit to you right now that I fell for (and shared) some misinformation from the psyop blogs in 2016, so I am by no means saying that I'm some kind of perfect paragon on this point. But Jesus Christ people we are all (hopefully) very aware of the psyops now. Like that happened. We KNOW that there are bad actors spreading disinformation on this webbed site (and many others) and it's only going to get worse the closer we get to November. The 2016 psyops btw, were the subject of an 85 page report as part of the 5 part report on Russian interference in the 2016 election from the selective intelligence committee in the US senate. We also know that the Russian IRA is using psyop campaigns to target Ukraine/Ukrainians. This was and is a very real threat to democracy, truth, progress, and marginalized people everywhere.

Three topics that are hot for disinformation/false news/and misinformation on this site (and others) are the upcoming 2024 presidential elections, I/P, and Russia/Ukraine. These are 3 topics that you should be very discerning about your sources on, as there is copious false information being spread like wildfire across social media about these three topics, to the benefit of a wide range of governments, companies, and special interests from many groups along the political spectrum. Something, something, you are not immune to propaganda.

But the thing is, you have the power to help stop the spread of stupid misinformation and lies on this site (and others)! By checking sources on an issue post BEFORE you share it, you can stop fake information from spreading. You can further help by telling your friends, blocking these posts, and blocking posters who repeatedly and unashamedly spread this kind of disinformation.

Or hell, don't share issue posts at all; you don't need to have a prepared PR statement with poasts about every issue ever. You can pick and chose what you share on your social media and limit it to issues that you feel confident you can find and share good, true, reliable information about, with good, reliable actionable steps. Especially here on tumblr, you are under ZERO obligation to blog about any particular topic, no matter what other people are saying. YOU are the ultimately arbiter of what goes out onto YOUR blog.

I totally get that it is exhausting to have to check your sources, but if you're not feeling up for checking sources you have the option to NOT share current event/issue posts, and I would encourage you to do this. Joining in outrage trains that don't have actionable steps afterwards doesn't really help anyone. Once again you don't have to speak about every issue and you have no obligation to provide PR statements about your opinions on every issue ever. It is also 100% OK to admit and acknowledge that something is outside of your knowledge base or expertise and that you do not consider yourself a good source for information on a particular topic. You have options, and people who send you hateful messages telling you otherwise are behaving like clowns, and don't deserve your time. Your time is limited on this bitch of an Earth and there's no reason to waste it caring about the opinions of people who wake up and choose to be cruel to others online.

You should be deeply suspicious of any posts that are deliberately designed to make you feel furious and/or hopeless, especially if they don't also have actionable suggestions. Double especially when they seem to be coming from somone "on your side." Even if the OP isn't a bad actor, doomposting and doomscrolling are ultimately bad for you (and for OP and for everyone else), because it does nothing productive; all it does is makes you feel bad/guilty, which I'm gonna be real, is deeply christian of you people.

BUT if you're going to share issue posts here are some questions you should be asking to evaluate your sources from your local librarian (me):

SOURCE: Who is the publisher of this source? Where are they getting their information? Who else is citing this source? What are the credentials of the publication? (Why should this publication be trusted to provide good information about [subject]? Is this source known to be a source that provides accurate and reliable information?) Who does the publication have connections to? Who funds this source? (largely in the case of news, is it a state-sponsored source? Is this source funded by special interest groups? Is this source sponsored by a specific corporate sponsor?) Might the publication have a conflict of interest related to the topic (essentially, do they gain any specific benefit for presenting the information in a certain way?)

AUTHOR: Who is the author of this source? What motivations might they have? What is their background? What other things are they publishing? Who do they have connections to? (as with the publication, is the author directly connected to [subject presented] in a way that might conflict with their ability to accurately present this information? Does the author have connections to individuals or groups known to provide false information?)

For posters, who is the OP? Looking at their page/blog, what information do they provide about themselves (they have no obligation to share personal information on here of course, but what information they chose to share can be telling about their motivations and whether or not they are a real person.) Does the OP show any signs that suggest they are a bot? How old is OPs blog? What are their other kinds of posts? Does OP have other posts that contain obvious disinformation? Do they interact with others in good faith? Do they engage in public harassment of other users? Do they have other posts that contain dog whistles or other rhetoric used by known hate groups (ie: rhetoric/language known to be used by TERFS, n^zis, white supremacists, incels, or other extremist or exclusionist groups). Do they regularly share information from publications widely known to be unreliable or false?

TIMELINESS : When was this information published? This is perhaps one of the most important questions you can ask about any news event, because when it comes to current events, the information known or available about them changes as time passes and often earlier information on a situation contains understandable inaccuracies. When was it last updated? Is this the most current version of this source, or are there newer editions? (For example, the same news source may have multiple articles about the same event, so it's important to check if the one you're sharing is the most current one) When was the information collected? (If the source you're citing was published currently are they relying on the most current information or are their sources less current?)

EVIDENCE: What evidence does the source cite for their claims? [are they using primary and secondary sources? For background information, who do they cite?) Can you find other sources that support these claims? (If you see a statistic or number, are there other sources that also cite that same statistic or number? Who is the actual source of that statistic? If an article makes a claim, can you find other articles from different publications that also make that claim? Do those other sources have credentials that make them a reliable source of information on [subject]? If this claim is only being cited by a small number of publications, while a larger number of publications make different claims about [subject] why might this be?) What sources is the author using to find the information they're presenting? (Beyond interviewed sources, what sources does the author use to get their facts? Who do they cite for statistics, numbers or other data?) Who are they interviewing? (in the case of a news article, which POVs is the author relying on for their article? If the article was about the actions of a corporation, does the author only rely on information given to them by a PR rep for that same corporation or do they interview other sources related to the story?)

In the case of a post, who does the OP cite as a source for their information? If the only source is a tik tok video, are there other sources that agree with the information presented in that video? Videos and images can be doctored by AI or by people. The way that images and videos are composed, framed and presented can radically change how their audience interprets or understands the information being presented. What does the framing of the image tell us about the author's perspective on [topic]?

TONE/LANGUAGE: What kind of language or rhetoric does the author use when presenting the information? Does the author of the source or the post use inflammatory language, designed to elicit a power emotional response? Does the source use language that creates a sense of hopelessness? What kind of language does the article or poster use when talking about individuals from marginalized peoples? Does the poster or the source use language that is known to be rhetoric attached to specific prejudices/bigotry (essentially is the language used from known talking points of hate groups?)

Studying the language used in the source, does it appear to be a source presenting facts, opinions or propaganda? Many sources will be some mixture of these things, especially when it comes to news sources, so the question becomes, which of these three things is the strongest bent of the source?

this recent gq interview with john boyega has incensed me. hearing all the things he went through, from disney and from “fans” and with no support from anyone… i’m livid. sometimes when i think about it for too long i start shaking, i’m so furious. and the response from the reylo fandom has infuriated me to a degree i honestly didn’t know was possible.

some of you may have seen my recent tumblr rampage. it’s reylo bullying hours here on my blog, and i’m not sorry either. one person threatened to post screenshots of my comments, which like… okay? i know what the fuck i said, it wasn’t that long ago. in fact i was going to include the screenshots in this post right here, but they blocked me before i had the chance. sorry. i’m sure somebody has them. anyway…

over the past two days in the star wars fandom we have seen something unprecedented: an outpouring of support for john boyega. both reylos and anti-reylos have joined forces to voice support for john in the wake of the gq interview (and the blm protests, let’s be real, some of y’all would not have given half a fuck if it wasn’t suddenly cool to be antiracist). and this showing of unity is one of the most rage-inducing things i’ve ever seen in a fandom (which is saying something; i have seen some shit).

reylo fandom, full offense intended, but where the fuck do you get off? you’re supporting john now? where was this support when tfa came out and you couldn’t stand the thought of him next to your white-girl-self-insert? where was it when tlj came out and your boy ryan completely sidelined him? where was it earlier this fucking year when y’all twisted a harmless joke (like yall haven’t spent years writing reylo-throne-room-sex-meta BULLSHIT) and ignored the vile racist shit coming from your own fav’s mouth? but you’re supporting him now? now that being antiracist is trendy? fuck outta here with that bullshit.

your fandom is the reason for the vast majority of the absolutely subhuman treatment john has endured over the last few years. your fandom influenced ryan (yes i know what his name is) to write tlj the way he did, you have behaved indefensibly here on tumblr.hell writing and drawing and fantasizing about all sorts of racist bullshit, and y’all have STAYED in his twitter mentions spewing hatred seven ways to sunday. but NOW, without a shred of self-reflection, you’re supporting him? now his experiences are valid?

here’s an example: i watched tfa about three days after it came out. i watched the first half, saw the obvious relationship set up between finn and rey, and thought, “aw, cute.” then i watched kylo and rey fight, watch him offer to teach her, and thought, “... interesting.”

when i got home i checked tumblr for finnrey content, saw the outpouring of love from black fans, all the cute fanart and fics blooming, and smiled. then, slowly, guiltily, i searched “reylo.”

BOOM. racism. the things i saw in the tag that night are tattooed on my brain. reylos rejoicing about the obvious rey/kyle pairing because “sw would never put her with that monkey finn”. calling him an “oaf”, “useless”, “bumbling”, “stupid”. reylos joking about how “when they talked about the Dark side, [they] didn’t think they meant that kind of dark.” “woke” reylos pretending to ship stormpilot in an obvious ploy to get finn away from kylo. and in between all of that, cute ship art. fun fics. talented gif makers. and nobody saying shit about the reprehensible behavior going on in their tag.

reylo is built on a foundation of racism. from that first week, racism has been woven into the fabric of your fandom, and it’s been going unchecked. and i don’t mean calling out other reylos. that’s not enough. i mean taking actual steps. y’all have been sitting in a cesspool of racism for five years, and its time for you to get the fuck out or shut the fuck up about being an “ally”. y’all need to leave this fandom.

don’t agree? here’s another story. in 2017, when i still watched supergirl (before i grew taste) i shipped karamel. for those of you who don’t know, karamel is the ship of kara zor-el (supergirl) and mon-el, her second love interest. when supergirl was moved to the cw for its second season, the decision was made to abruptly end her romance with jimmy olsen, played by mecahd brooks (a black man) and replace him with mon-el, played by chris wood, a white man, who was revealed to be, among other things, an alien slaveowner, as well as a playboy and all-around terrible person. and i shipped them. look, i’m not defending myself, but i never really bought the chemistry between jimmy and kara. even though mon-el’s introduction and the way that they carelessly disregarded kara’s feelings for jimmy made me uncomfortable, i thought the way melissa played her attraction to chris wood was more believable (and again, i’m not defending myself, but they are now married so it’s not like i was wrong). so i shipped them. simple as that, right?

well, no. not really. because the inherent racism in the way the writers wrote out her admittedly sweet romance with a black man in favor of a white slaveowner jerk kept bothering me. and finally i decided that it made me too uncomfortable to participate in. i never really reblogged any karamel fandom stuff, but i completely divorced myself from the fandom. i stopped reading karamel fic, and i switched to reblogging exclusively jimmy/kara content until the fandom died out/i stopped watching. i made a choice that real life racism is more important to me than a fucking fandom or a ship, and then i acted accordingly. simple as that.

and i’m not saying you have to stop liking the reylo dynamic. i still like the chemistry between kara and mon-el. i’ve shipped problematic ships before (bamon comes to mind) and i don’t think there’s anything wrong with that (to a point). but there’s a difference between liking a ship dynamic and engaging and contributing to a fan culture of racism. you have to stop participating in the fandom. y’all are in bed with people indistinguishable from confederate-flag-waving-all-lives-matter-touting racists and you don’t feel the need to get out of that environment? there comes a certain point where you have to decide if fandom bullshit is more important to you than fighting racism, and unfortunately, reylos have chosen wrong. that, ladies and gentlemen, is why all reylos are racist, regardless of what they say. roll credits.

except i have more to say, so i’m gonna say it. first of all, i’m not trying to hold myself up as some kind of paragon of virtue. i’m not holier-than-thou because all my ships are “woke” or whatever. chemistry is subjective, and we’re all going to be attracted to different ship dynamics, and there’s nothing wrong with that in theory. what matters is the execution. i finally had to say one day, “you know, this ship and the racist baggage it carries is actually less important to me than battling systemic racism on every level, including the fandom level”. y’all thought being antiracist was gonna be easy? that you wouldn’t have to make some actual changes, to make some actual sacrifices? sorry not sorry to disappoint. and if i, a normal-ass person with flaws and problematic thinking that i’m still dealing with and the whole ine yards, can make that decision, then other people should be required to as well.

(what really irks me is that the karamel fandom wasn’t even really that bad! i definitely could have gotten away with being a karamel stan in 2017. thankfully the supercat and supercorp shippers were doing the lord’s work and bullying them into submission (don’t think i’m letting y’all off the hook either, y’all have got some racism to deal with as well but that’s an essay for another day) but like most of the racism happened at the writing level; the fandom itself wasn’t engaging in racist clownery on the regular. but like the reylos are. y’all see racist bullshit coming from your neighbor, fav fic writer, artist, gif maker, whatever, and don’t say shit? don’t feel the need to distance yourself from them? gtfoh.)

i made this argument earlier when i was on my rampage (which i’m still on btw so don’t clown in my inbox, you will get your shit rocked) but i’m going to make it again because i feel like its important to note. when i pointed out that existing in the reylo fandom while you are aware of its racism makes you complicit in that racism, a white reylo told me earlier that (paraphrasing, my memory’s not as good as it used to be and i did mention that they’d blocked me) “you don’t solve a problem like systemic racism by ignoring it. leaving the fandom would be allowing it to happen.” when i pointed out that that’s police officer rhetoric almost verbatim, she (a white reylo) admonished me (a black woman) not to compare police brutality to a “ship war.” lmao.

look, clearly y’all need a refresher on what “systemic” means. it means, quite simply, that there are systems, large and small, allow for racism to exist, and it also means that allowing for racism to exist on the small scale means expecting it on a large one. like you think police officers spring fully formed from the head with racist ideals already ingrained? no! they learn it and learn to justify it with “well just because my friend made a racist joke doesn’t make me a racist” and “just because i laughed at my friend’s using a racist term in my video game doesn’t make me a racist” and “just because my friend is a racist doesn’t mean i’m a racist” and then we have people watching their coworkers kneel on a man’s back for 8 minutes with no remorse. i’m not gonna solve police brutality by fighting reylos on tumblr, but fandom racism is real racism with consequences on our world, and i don’t tolerate ANY type of racism. and the fact that you are so willing to not just tolerate it but justify it should say something to you.

and not all reylos are like this. similar to cops, good reylos don’t last. i have seen people grow so disgusted by the racism in the reylo fandom that they publicly turned their backs on it, and those reylos i respect. you’ve heard of “the only good cop is an ex-cop” well get ready for “the only good reylo is an ex-reylo”.

(and also like far be it from me to justify a cop but one could at least say they have their livelihoods to think about (not like they couldn’t just pick a nonmurderous profession but i digress) but you reylos can’t even choose between taking a stance against the hateful and unjustified bullying of a man who had the audacity to… get a job (?)... over a ship? come on now.)

the point of all this is, for all their posturing about “being antiracist” and “fuck 12” and “support john boyega”, reylos have decided that a relationship between two fictional people is more important than all the black and brown people who are hurt by that decision and the consequences of that decision. and before y’all pull some “b-but there are POC reylos!” (stop fucking using poc as an adjective, its a noun, it stands for person of color, please use it as such) internalized racism is a thing. busting out your token “reylo of color” (see how easy that was?) is not going to change my mind. all reylos are complicit in the racism of their peers, and being complicit makes you culpable. full stop.

and that is why the public support of john boyega from the reylo fandom has me seeing red. renounce your fandom or keep that man’s name out of your mouth. anyway, this was long and ranty and entirely stream-of-consciousness and i’m refusing to edit it so it’s probably completely incomprehensible to anyone besides me but if you made it this far thanks for reading ig. all reylos are racist, blm, fuck 12, acab, stan john boyega, don’t clown in my inbox unless you’re coming to bully me for being a karamel shipper, which i deserve (or do, i couldn’t give less of a fuck). good night.

Hello slasher fandom! I’m fairly new to this side of tumblr, so forgive me if I don’t understand how all this works yet! I just thought I’d introduce myself because I’ve already posted drawings and fanfiction writings so far, but maybe some of you want to know who’s behind it? Facts about me:

I go by the name Donn on this blog (for safety reasons I won’t be sharing my actual or preferred name anywhere on this blog, sorry!)

I chose the name Donn because of the name coming from the Celtic god of dead souls (I’m a Celtic witch by blood so I thought it’d be fitting)

My preferred pronouns when I write are she/they (leaning towards she atm because of some personal issues I deal with irl, but irl I prefer they/them more strictly… does that make any sense?)

Anyways, I’m 18+ and I very much prefer my viewers to be 18+ ONLY because of the NSFW content I post… and I also don’t want to influence anyone that impressionable cuz I have a kinda fucked up mindset atm…

I have severe PTSD from many irl traumas that have happened to me throughout my life, and I currently live in an kind of abusive household, so my mental health has not been good…

I have diagnosed Adhd, but I take meds for it and am doing slightly better with my productivity! That’s why I’ve been able to crank out as much content as I have in the past few days!

I have undiagnosed autism, but it’s a work in progress cuz I’m like pretty sure I am autistic (for many reasons, the more you get the know me the more obvious it’ll get)

I am disabled in many ways: chronic physical and mental pain/illnesses, hard of hearing, etc.

I have a partner (Who does not know about this blog yet cuz I’m v shy about sharing this kinda stuff with the people I love… partially cuz of my trauma from past relationships)

Ive suffered from THREE separate abusive romantic relationships… all of which kinda fucked with my head… so forgive my insecurities and everything! (I’m working on it tho!) but this partner I’m currently with is AMAZING AND LOVING so I’m v happy with them!

TW! I’m a S/A survivor, and it was by a friend I trusted, so I get very skittish by people irl because of the betrayal… but I find it easier to get to know people online cuz it’s not as traumatic imo

I am currently seeing a therapist and a psychiatrist!! They both help me a lot with functioning as a normal person (even tho there’s no real such thing as a “normal” person imo, but it helps me survive in the society I live in)

I used to be goth, but now I’m forever torn between being goth again or being a cottagecore lesbian lol (I usually dress femme even tho my brain makes me feel like a boy a lot of the time…?)

I am extremely bisexual! Like holy shit! How come everyone is so hot?? Lol but seriously, I go all ways (I know some people say that’d make me pan but I prefer the term bisexual over being pan)

I used to be a little, but I’m not anymore because too many people took advantage of me when I was in my little mindset… I don’t let myself regress anymore unless I’m absolutely alone, but that’s rarely ever (my little age was around 10 btw)

I am extremely sensitive and am an empath! I feel my emotions EXTREMLY STRONG so I overreact to everything, am very passionate about the things I’m in love with, and cry at any given moment! I cannot and will not help it! I’ve been told too many times that I’m too sensitive and that I’m a crybaby and that my heart is too big for my body, but I don’t care anymore! Im refusing to see this as anything but a blessing for now on! Sensitive bitches are the baddest bitches lol

I used to get lots of hallucinations/psychosis, but I take meds for it and am now much better and less paranoid!

I still get paranoid about social situations tho for time to time, as im a very insecure person :(

Im a switch/power bottom! I like to be dominant on occasion, but I prefer to be a bratty sub most of the time!

Yes, I actually intended to do this Bachelorette Challenge! I didn’t just steal your sims and wander into the abyss, chuckling like a madwoman! (Actually, maybe I did.
