Alice in College pt 2

An IkeRev Central characters AU! Written for my IkeRev 1K Celebration, a boarding school AU was the poll winner. Approx. 2700 words. 2/6

Part 1

Alice startled as the office door swung open. Dalim was sitting behind a huge mahogany desk, a slight smile on his face. “Hey! What are you doing here? This is supposed to be for teachers.”

“I’m sorry?” The blond’s brow wrinkled.

“Dalim -” She gave an exasperated sigh. Clearly she was in the wrong spot. She reached for her notebook.

“I see. You’ve confused me for that hooligan.”

Alice looked up. “What?”

“It happens all the time. I really don’t know why. I’m nothing like him.” The blond stood with a grimace. “Allow me to introduce myself. I am Dean Tweedle. And I’ve prepared your schedule for this term, so why don’t you take a seat?”

She realized then that his clothes were completely different from Dalim, his hair carefully styled. A bunch of small differences that separated the . . . “Are you brothers or, or cousins or something?”

“Absolutely not. We are in no way related.” Dean frowned and sat back down.

“Oh. Well. Sorry then.” She felt a little surprised by his reaction, but this place was strange and maybe in Cradle it was totally normal for two people to look practically alike. She sat in the seat across from Dean.

“Excellent. Let’s not bring it up again.” Dean smiled at her again and steepled his fingers. “You are in the unlucky position of being a midterm transfer. That means we’ll have to work extra hard to get you caught up.” He pulled a stiff sheet of paper from a file on his desk and handed it to her.

Alice stared down at the class schedule in dismay. There were thirteen subjects listed, along with 2 study periods. “Umm, Professor, this says my first class is 7am?”

“Please, Alice, call me Dean. And yes. You’ll have double the subjects this term, double the homework and studying.” He sounded almost gleeful. “It will be quite a load, but I am sure you’re up to the task.”

“You are?” She blinked up at him, feeling off kilter.

Dean smiled even more brightly. “Of course. You’ll have plenty of help in your study halls and lots of time to focus”

Alice looked down again. She had some subjects she recognized, like history and speech, and others that were strange. Crystal theory and metaphysics. “Ummm. Can I switch some of these? Like . . . phys ed? In London I took band . . . and . . .”

“I’m afraid not. This schedule is perfectly balanced and includes all the coursework you’ll need to progress.” He reached across the desk to pat her hand. “We’ll have you caught up in no time.”

His touch was warm and gentle, and it did kind of soothe her nerves.

“Thanks.” She flipped the notebook open to tuck her schedule away. The pages inside were full of tight, scrawled cursive in chaotic lines. No map. No blank pages. Alice realizes immediately what must have happened. That rude Amon guy had her notebook, and she had his. Great.

Dean was still smiling at her. “You should spend the evening getting acclimated to the school and grounds. Breakfast starts at 5am and you’ve got Crystal Theory bright and early. Don’t be late to class, hm?”

“What? Oh. Right.” She shut the notebook. “Could you tell me how to get to the library from here? I think I left something there.” Hopefully Amon was still around. She’d trade him his notebook for hers and get her map back.

“Already getting some study time in? Wonderful.” Dean rubbed his hands together. “It’s not too far -” He gave her directions and saw her to the door.

Alice tried to follow his instructions. Left to the stairs. Take a right at the second landing. Then . . . was it take the first stair up or the second? Had he mentioned a second? She passed a roped-off corridor as she made her way down the empty hall. Maybe it was the third one? A sound made her stop in her tracks, and turn.

Someone was moving in the dark hallway beyond the rope. She caught sight of a face beneath a dark hood, wild strands of pale hair, glowing ember-colored eyes. “Amon?”

He turned away, ignoring her.

Alice pushed past the rope and went after him. This part of the school did not look like it was in use. There was a sign that said, ‘ No unauthorized entry’ and then a little ways further, ‘No students allowed beyond this point.’ But it seemed Amon definitely went this way.

Many of the doors were shut and locked. In open rooms, she could see dust cloths thrown over desks, the magic lamps emptied of crystals. She wouldn’t have minded exploring a little more - curiosity was a weakness of hers - but Amon was hurrying on ahead and she needed to catch up.

“Amon! Wait! You - you have my notebook!”

If he heard her, the words didn’t even give him pause. He ducked into one of the rooms and out of sight.

Alice paused on the threshold, feeling nervous for the first time on this little chase. The arch above the door was scorched, the paint peeled and blackened. The room beyond was full of strange shapes, some covered with greying cloth and others, just looming shadows. “Amon?”

No reply. Maybe he was hiding from her. She walked in, moving cautiously. The covered figures were statues, she thought, peering under one of the covers. And past that, strange looking equipment. Huge round vats of glass so big she could swim in them if they were full. Metal tubing that curved and arched into spiraling designs sat atop a series of tables, and then there were things she couldn’t begin to imagine the use for.

She leaned forward, peering at a rack of tools. Or, she thought they were some kind of tools. Handles with - something covered her eyes.

“Guess who, princess!” A low, teasing voice tickled against her ear.

Alice pulled away, knocking several things onto the floor.

Somewhere from the shadows, another low voice hissed a warning. “Stop making so much noise! Someone will notice.”

“I’d make less noise if you didn’t say hello by grabbing me.” Alice glared toward the darkness and then turned her gaze back toward Dalim. He smiled at her smugly despite her glare. “What are you doing here? I don’t think students are allowed in this area. There was a sign.”

Dalim gave a shrug. “Just working on some stuff.”

“Tell her to go away.” Amon stepped from a darkened alcove, his expression one of extreme displeasure.

“Umm, I am pretty sure you can tell me yourself. And anyway, I’m not here to hang out. You took my notebook.” Alice held out the black notebook she’d taken on accident. “Trade back?”

Amon tried to swipe it but Alice jerked it back out of reach.

“I can’t believe you don’t want to hang out with us!” Dalim plucked the notebook out of her hands. “You really just came down here to give this back?”

“No. I am here for my notebook. It’s got a school map in it. And - and Harr gave it to me. As a gift.”

“How sweet.” Amon rolled his eyes and let out an annoyed sigh. He held out his hand to Dalim. “Thanks for getting that for me.”

Dalim gestured toward Alice. “Give her the other one.”

“You’re joking.” Amon glared at the blond.

“If you please? I’ll just take it and leave you two to your top secret boys’ club or whatever.” Alice put her hands on her hips.

“It’s not a boys’ club,” Amon spat back without moving his gaze from Dalim. “I’m researching something so fantastic that it would destroy your tiny little banal brain if I tried to explain it to you.”

Alice rolled her eyes. “Look, tryhard, you aren’t scaring me. I don’t care what you’re doing up here. I just want my notebook back. It was a gift, and it’s useful. So stop dragging this out. I’d like to get back downstairs before dinner is over.”

Dalim leaned forward and whispered something to Amon.

After a moment, Amon nodded. “Fine. I’ll give it back.” He pulled open his messenger back and rummaged around until he came up with a familiar looking notebook. He flipped through it quickly, as if checking for something, then held it out. “For you, Alice.” His smile was mocking.

Dalim nudged him.

“Yeah, ok, and I’m sorry I gave you a hard time.” Amon sighed. “Good enough?”

“For a first try.” Dalim grinned. “Sorry about him, Alice. He was raised by wolves. Anyway, you want to see what we’re working on? It’s pretty impressive. Probably get us top scores in magical theory.” He raised an eyebrow, “And you’re pretty new to magic, right? So I know you’ve never seen anything like this.”

Alice snagged her notebook and tucked it under her arm with a frown. “Honestly, I don’t care what you’re doing up here. Besides, didn’t your friend say it would melt my brain?”

“I didn’t say melt -” Amon started, but Dalim interrupted.

“He’s just being dramatic. Come on, I’ll show you. I don’t get to show off very often.” Dalim pulled a crystal out of his pocket and it flared to life, lighting the room.

“Fine.” Alice wasn’t entirely ready to forgive either of them for being jerks, but she was curious.

Amon smirked. “Come on then. I don’t have all evening to play tour guide.” He grabbed her hand and pulled her along after Dalim.

His hand was warm and oddly comforting, Alice thought. And this close, she could smell his scent, a heady mix of sharp, herbal scents that wasn’t unpleasant - though it was unusual. She wanted to dislike it, because it was Amon, but couldn’t help leaning into him. So much so that when he stopped, she bumped into him.

“You don’t need to be so close,” he muttered, letting go of her hand and taking a step away.

Dalim raised an eyebrow. “Right. So, princess, this is it.”

Alice turned to look where he was gesturing, her eyes going wide. She didn’t know enough about magic to know what she was looking at, but Dalim hadn’t lied. It was impressive. Cauldrons and glass vats full of glowing, multi-hued liquids and swirling smoke. Magic crystals with wires and tubes connecting them to blinking switchboards with turning gears.

“What is it meant to do,” she asked in a voice quiet with awe.

“That’s a secret,” Amon smirked.

Dalim settled onto a stool. “Afraid you’ll have to earn our trust if you want to know more. But I’m glad you can appreciate how special it is that we shared it with you.”

“Is this for . . . a school project or something?”

“Something,” Dalim said just as Amon snapped, “None of your business.”

Alice shrugged. “Ok, fine. But I can’t be terribly impressed if I don’t know what it does. Might just be all show, no function.”

Amon was gearing up for an insulting reply when Dalim held up a hand for silence. “I hear something,” he whispered.

Then, from the distance, “This is an off-limits area! I know someone’s back here and boy are you in trouble.”

“Dean!” Amon and Dalim glanced at each other. Then they were moving. Quick and silent, they ducked back out into the shadowy room.

Alice tried to follow them, but her legs were shorter and she didn’t know the way. In a few turns, she’d lost them to the maze of halls and fabric covered displays. She crouched behind a table to get her bearings, breathing hard as much from exertion as excitement.

“Got you.” Dean’s face came into view with a flash of pale blue light. He looked surprised and a little disappointed as he realized who, exactly, he got.

“Hello again, Mr. Tweedle.” Alice gave him a small wave.

He frowned at her and then looked around. “Where are the others? Who are you here with?”

“It’s just me, I’m afraid.” She gave him what she hoped was an honest smile. Alice didn’t care if Amon and Dalim got into trouble, but she wasn’t about to turn into a snitch on her first day.

Dean let out a breath, a frown line forming between his brows. “I could’ve sworn I heard . . . well . . . I suppose . . .” His gaze came back to her with an unexpected sharpness. “I’m rather disappointed in you, Alice. You’ve been here half a day and already getting into mischief.”

“I’m so sorry, Mr. Tweedle. I got turned around and then - then I let my curiosity get the best of me.” Alice hung her head guiltily. “I knew I shouldn’t have gone past the ropes, but I wanted to know what was back here.”

“Please, call me Dean, Alice.” He cleared his throat. “You’re quite lucky you didn’t come to harm. Some of the old equipment here is quite unstable.” He held out a hand to her. “Come along.”

She took his hand and let him help her up. “Is it? I wasn’t even sure what all this stuff was. Half looks like an art display and the rest, like something out of a mad scientist’s lab.”

Dean quirked a smile. “It would have been better for you to come ask myself or one of the other TA’s than to sate your curiosity through trespassing. But I can’t fault an inquiring mind.” He patted her head. “This floor is full of old laboratories our research students used to push understanding of magic in Cradle. Unfortunately, some of the experiments went too far and created unexpected problems. For the last few years, we’ve been working on unraveling some of the more dangerous magical fields and disarming the equipment, but much of it is still dangerous.”

“I see.” Alice wondered if maybe Dean was exaggerating the dangers - or if Amon and Dalim didn’t understand how dangerous this floor was.

“I hope you do. We wouldn’t want to lose another -” his words dissolved into a shout of alarm as one of the nearby contraptions began to glow.

Alice couldn’t make out what it was under the white sheet, but she could feel the crackle of strange energies in the air. Then without warning, something burst. There was a loud pop and the sheet - along with whatever lay underneath - came flying toward them. She held up her hands to ward it off, shouting. “No! Stop!”

The sheet covered equipment froze mid-air and then clattered to the floor with a bang. The tension in the air released with a pop, and a sudden skirling in the air. Alice stared at it anxiously.

Dean looked from her to the pile and back again. “Interesting.” He took her arm. “We should hurry lest anything else wake up.”

She wasn’t about to argue. Alice wasn’t sure what had just happened, but she wanted to get far enough away to reflect on it in peace.

The two of them made it to the stairwell without any other lab equipment taking offense at their passage. Then Dean led her down to the dining hall. He’d been quiet for the walk, contemplative. But here at the door, he paused.

“I’d like to tell you the experience was its own punishment, but I’m afraid I can’t let your transgress go so easily. Rules are rules, you know.” He smiled at her gently as if trying to take the sting out of his words.

“W-what does that mean?” Alice fiddled with her skirt, not meeting his gaze.

Dean took a breath, his eyes narrowing. “I’ll have to assign you some extra work to keep those idle hands busy. I think, perhaps, detention with Mousse each morning for the next week will do. And if not, I’m sure I can find some additional studies for you.” He sounded almost glad for it.

Alice risked a glance at his face and found that he was still smiling, and his gaze was bright. “I guess I understand?”

“Excellent. Just let me know if you find yourself with too much free time. I have some excellent ideas already.”

“Thanks, Mr - uhm, Dean. I’ll go see Mousse first thing.”

“Six in the morning, on the dot.” Dean was definitely enjoying this.

Alice nodded. “Right.” This was not the start she’d hoped for, but it could be worse. Maybe detention with Mousse would be fun? She kept telling herself that as she filed into the dining hall for dinner with the other students.

Female Harry Potter Fanfic Recommendation List

I recently discovered this genre of Harry Potter fan fiction, and while I do not support the author’s views in any way, shape, form, or capacity, I do support awesome authors on the internet doing their best. That being said, this AU is such an interesting one to explore in the emotional and physical sense, as something so little changes the story in a compelling and imaginative way that really lets the author’s personal style and experience shine through brilliantly. While I am a fan of the old-fashioned fics, I feel like this take on it is interesting and growing in popularity steadily. I will be adding to this list as I find new and interesting takes on this AU. Sometimes writing quality is not the only thing that is an indicator of good fan work to me so there will be fics from varying levels in that regard present here if I find that it is unique in some way or a revolutionary idea/start to something that could be great with time. In turn, I will also be accepting any additional recommendations and adding anything that is really interesting on that end. Thank you and I hope you have a lovely day :).

My Take: I sincerely cannot stress how good this series is. It truly does capture the best and worst of the characters in a way that makes it hard to stop reading and leaves me wanting another update immediately after I finish a new chapter. I am not even going to lie, this is most likely my favorite one on this list.

My Take: This fanfiction was brilliant, I loved the concept of the Triwizard Tournament being broadcast through magic to everyone in the wizarding world. It was raw, innovative, and very hard to put down.

My Take: This was a fascinating concept, one that I have not quite come across yet. It was well-paced, and I love how the characters were written. It was very hard to stop reading as each new chapter made me compulsively want to know what happened next and how the wild ride would end. It was an innovative piece that jerks the heart strings and keeps the reader on their toes.

Thank you!!! I’m excited about this one and am glad people are curious about it.

Like me, this post-Empty human Cas has trouble eating things that aren’t exactly what he wants to eat, and he prefers foods that are the same texture with every bite. Also like me, Cas has a partner (well, at first, a “friend”) whose love language is acts of service and food and is determined to make sure Cas gets enough to eat.

Unlike me--a vegetarian raised on California cuisine--Cas got his palette from Dean Winchester, and Dean’s the one doing the cooking, so there’s a lot of meat, plus Midwestern US excess and weirdness.

Like I mentioned before, the fic is in the form of recipes, and the thing about recipes is they’re usually in the 1st person. I don’t mind 1st person in fic, but I absolutely get why it bothers a lot of people. (I sometimes write in 1st person and then change it to 3rd person in late drafts.) But I’m committed to the recipe conceit for this one, so it’s gonna stay 1st person.

The style of the recipes changes a bit once Dean and Cas get together, move out of the bunker, and start cooking with plants they grew in their garden.

(Anyone who has suggestions for Midwestern and/or Jewish recipes Dean would make should feel free to shoot me an ask!)

And here’s what is currently the very first section/recipe, the Peanut Butter and Jelly Smoothie:

Sammy figured it out first, which pissed me off. Couldn’t say why, just seemed like something I should’ve caught.

I mean, I knew Cas wasn’t eating enough. All sorts of reasons for that, I figured.

I wouldn’t say so where anyone could hear me, but I thought that it could’ve been—it sounds so fucking stupid, but I thought maybe there was a tiny bit of grace left after all. That he didn’t need to eat. Idiotic, I know. I just hate seeing him have such a rough time, and wanted to pretend he wasn’t.

Sometimes I think I might’ve sent him away the first time he was human even if Gadreel hadn’t told me to, just so I didn’t have to watch him hurt so much.

This guy thinks I’m the most selfless person he’s ever met, and that’s how I treat him.

Point is, Sam spent a whole morning making a dozen different smoothies and having Cas try ‘em until he found one he liked—like, really, really liked. I came in at the tail-end of it and there was green gunk spattered all over the place and it smelled like a lawnmower, but Cas was eating—well, drinking, but it counts as a meal apparently—and smiling for maybe the first time since he got back.

So the next day when Cas was out with Jack, I had Sam show me what he’d done so I could make it for Cas, too.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Smoothie

Ingredients:

Milk, about 1 cup

A handful of fresh baby spinach (Sam made it with kale the first time, but even the baby stuff tastes like grass, if you ask me. I made it for Cas with spinach and it was a lot smoother, for one thing, and Cas said he liked it better. Maybe if you have one of those hipster high-speed blenders you can stick a whole head of kale in, stems and all, and have it come out without little leaf chunks in it, but I have a normal person blender and I say just use the baby spinach.)

2 tbsp rolled oats

¼ frozen banana (You can freeze ‘em whole, peeled, just make sure they’re broken up before you put ‘em in the blender. That way it won’t make that awful knife-in-the-disposal sound it does when Sam was dropping ‘em in whole.)

½ cup frozen strawberries

Ice, as needed

2 tbsp smooth peanut butter

1 tsp maple syrup

Salt

This isn’t much milk for a smoothie this size, but Cas likes his smoothies so thick you can barely get ‘em through a straw, so I only add enough liquid that it won’t break the goddamn blender.

Instructions:

Add the spinach to the blender and just enough milk to cover it. Blend it together, starting with low power and working your way up to the highest your blender can go. If you have a regular blender, this is the best way to make sure the greens get broken down small enough to really mix with everything else.

Add the oats next. Really you can add ‘em whenever, but doing it early keeps it nice and thick and gives you a good idea of how much liquid you’ll need. Blend from low to high.

Add the bananas and strawberries, along with the rest of the milk. A lotta recipes just tell you to add everything and blend it together. Pretty sure that’s what they call hubris—or maybe it’s having a five hundred dollar blender. Probably the two go hand-in-hand. Just sayin’, the order is important to getting it all smooth, which is the point. S’why it’s called a smoothie.

Blend low to high. When it’s all combined add the peanut butter, syrup, and salt. Be careful with the salt. You shouldn’t be able to taste the salt, it’s just supposed to make everything else taste better, ‘cause, y’know, it’s salt. It’s a sweet smoothie, but you add salt to cookies, right? Same deal. Until you get used to it add just a little at a time, blend it, and taste it to make sure it’s right.

If it’s not creamy or cold enough, add some ice. You could add more banana pieces, but Cas doesn’t like the banana to be the main taste. Add more milk if it’s getting too thick to blend.

Sometimes Cas tells me not to make it with the greens. I just use a lot less than usual and the peanut butter covers it. S’why I got so good at making sure they blend in just right. Cas wasn’t eating a lot of meat, at first, so he really needed the iron ‘n’ all that stuff that’s in green things.

I’m pretty sure the people who say these things are a real meal are all either people who sit in offices all day and don’t burn any calories or people who get paid to tell other people to starve themselves, but Cas will drink this smoothie when he won’t eat anything else, and that goes a hell of a long way.

From a 50 year old artist who is also Not Disney who is a long time Tumblrite who wants to support your livelihood but can’t for many reasons -

You appear to be a Twitter refugee, if I’m understanding your 'I make money on Twitter’ statement correctly (which I may not have properly understood), who seems to be struggling because you have not yet adapted to the local culture and are, as a result, completely misreading the room. It happens and is not something to be ashamed of, but it is also NOT the culture you’re new in’s problem. It’s a you thing. When I was moved by my family with them to South Korea during my childhood, I had the same problem for a good long while. I learned and adapted over time. I believe you can do the same. You’re a fucking artist. OF COURSE YOU CAN. YOU ARE BRILLIANT.

HELPFUL QUESTIONS TO SUPPORT YOU BUILDING YOUR FRIEND GROUPS HERE AND ALSO YOUR BUSINESS NETWORK (THEY MAY OR MAY NOT BE THE SAME THING) -

1. Have I made sure my profile picture IS a profile picture I put effort into and not one of the default Tumblr ones? Having a default Tumblr profile pic screams I AM NOT A HUMAN, and NOBODY will buy shit from what they think is a bot.

2. Have I made sure I reblog things that I like (especially my and other artists’ art)? Have I commented and added on every post I have enjoyed? Tumblr is a team sport where there is no ‘enemy’ and it all becomes jokey art. Even the just talking posts. Even the instructive posts. We have a Science Side. We have a History Side. We have experts on shit, who really, really are EXPERTS, who won’t tell you their names since they’d love to get tenure but if you read in their disciplines, you know who you’re talking to. (NO WORRIES REPUTABLE ACADEMICS I AM NOT GONNA OUT YOU!) Not reblogging, commenting, etc means you’re not participating. Nobody willingly spends time with people just leeching off of them, let alone buys anything from them. We care about each other here. It will help if you cultivate that, as well. We are not mere ATMs. Nor are you. We are in your same boat, for the most part.

3. If you have fixed items 1 and 2, if they needed fixed, now you move to the real way you find your people: 3a. What fandoms do you suspect might most vibe with your work? Go find out. Share your art. What is the response? Is this a spot to consistently share your work (with prices listed in case anybody is interested in having it on their wall or side table)?

EXAMPLES of 3a - 3ai. Do you draw Dean Winchester’s car model and year in various situations? SPN WANTS THEIR CAR BACK, BABY. and you can give it to them.

3aii. Do you do lots of abstract stuff? Make bizarro world fantasy thingies? You may walk into UNREALITY, ABSTRACT, FANTASY tags and find your people.

3aiii. Does your art fit mostly into one or a few different aesthetic styles? We have whole aesthetics fandoms here. Do you do sweet pastoral landscapes? GET THEE TO THE COTTAGECORE TAG!

3aiv. Do you like drawing giant monsters, original or otherwise? JAPANESE KAIJU, GODZILLA, etc tags are calling your name.

4. PROMOTE YOUR FELLOW ARTISTS. It is proof you aren’t just out to cover you own ass.

4a. EXAMPLES

4ai. NOW to the Absolutely Shameless plugs for all the artists I already know (if we want our own livelihoods to happen, friend, we boost everyone else who also is Not Disney who is just trying to survive late stage capitalism):

4aii. I buy from Diane Duane (@dduane) and boost all sales notices I see from her eBooks Direct shop so others can, too. She writes the safe for neurodivergent, queer kids Young Wizards series (So You Want to Be a Wizard, etc), she writes Middle Kingdom, and her dear one, Peter Morwood (@petermorwood) - who is beloved on Tumblr for his in depth swords posts and adorable cat posts, also has many books in that shop. Both are veterans of writing for the Star Trek franchise OFFICIALLY! No, no ST series are in eBooks Direct, those are all property of the Franchise and so not for them to sell. There are often sales including EVERYTHING IN THE SHOP for like 40 USD. They cannot sell to UK, sadly. (Corrections welcome, Writer Aunti!)

4aiii. When I have money again I will be buying from @momolady - she writes exophilic love stories and makes some epic, genre related stickers.

4aiv. Also from @monstersandmaw who’s art is diverse and lush and wonderful and I can’t even accurately describe it aside from often sculpture or useful and LUSHLY BEAUTIFUL.

Other than the fact that these are actual adults, what's sad is that we are all indian, which automatically makes us brown - yes we come in different shades but no matter how much you try to distance yourself from the melanin, you just can't. Hating on your own people just means that you are painfully insecure. I'm sorry if social media, Indian matchmaking or even your own families have convinced you, that if you're not 5"7 and fair you're not beautiful. So, the last picture and caption are the exact same from her Instagram (ig: suhanakhan2) I feel like she explained it very well and it's very important to realise that just because someone is a person of colour doesn't mean they can't be racist. India has a lot of issues in dealing with skin colour and feeling like lighter skin is superior and while efforts are being made to try and change that, it's s long way to go. I just wanted to shed light on this because it breaks my heart. One of my juniors a year or two ago told me she didn't feel pretty because her skin colour was a few shades darker. That hurt so much and I can't say that I can fully relate because I've always been fairer in general but doesn't mean I don't hear the comments, 'you have tanned a lot, use this cream etc.' I hope that we can soon move on from the mentality that fair = pretty.

On being SO DONE with M*sha, a rant a decade in the making!

After giving this some thought I'm going to go ahead and give my opinion on Misha and yesterday’s situation in public for the first time ever. I was going to just post on Twitter but since this has been 12 years in the making I have exceeded the number of tweets I can put in one thread! There’s A LOT in here, so my summary is also long. I'm aware that I will lose followers over this, I'm not looking to offend anyone but it will inevitably happen. I wish anyone leaving all the best as fellow human beings.

TL;DR - having kept quiet for so long I’ve finally reached my limit and it’s all come bubbling out. I’ve never been a fan of Misha, I’ve been ambivalent for the most part, but have never criticised him in any hateful way, that's not who I am, but after all these years of putting up with his bullshit, attention seeking and troublemaking I am DONE. Deleting his tweet containing the word Wincest and replacing it with an APOLOGY just to pander to his Minions and save face is the straw that broke the camel's back. He has consistently pushed his ship on not only fans but on other actors (despite Jensen's discomfort, and him having repeatedly made his feelings known on it), he has stood by while his Minions/Hellers have harassed, victimised, doxxed and sent death threats to people based on their FICTIONAL ships. He has pandered to their gatekeeping, constantly demanded attention in obvious and not so obvious ways, and to the best of my knowledge never criticised their actions even though he's aware of it in a very real way. Some of his Minions have now taken their shit into The Boys fandom and created negativity for Jensen before the guy has even got a foot through the set door, and how is that supporting one half of your ship?

Misha has claimed to be a victim of targeted harassment from Wincest/brother fans (not only shippers) yet his fans have said and done the most despicable things on his watch, all in the name of what he must think is entertainment, or even his idea of a ‘joke’.

Any respect I had for the man based on his humanitarian work has gone because I can only take so much hypocrisy. He and his pandering because of a desperate attempt to be woke and wholly inclusive (which is actually impossible, no matter how good intentions are) are beyond pathetic. Whilst I have never seen why people think he’s so great I have friends IRL and online who genuinely adore the man, yet they have been shocked and upset by his contempt for half of the fandom that made him somewhat famous. It's disgusting and I'm not scrolling by any more. Misha, I hope to never see you on anything J2 related in future because none of us need that kind of negativity, *especially* not J2. Be gone, foul fiend!

OK, so to the too long part. Please be aware that these are my opinions as a fan of the show, of Sam and Dean, and J2, not only as a shipper. I can separate canon and fanon, and can view canon from a gen or shippy PoV. Whether you agree or disagree with my opinion let me be clear that I do not condone constant bashing and hate of a person or character so this isn’t the start of a regular thing for me. It's possible to have an opinion and not show the same vitriol that has been following this man around for years, and that’s what I’m doing. I've not posted this to prompt more negativity, it's simply to get it off my chest and make it clear how I feel. I stand by my philosophy of ship who you want to ship, enjoy it, but don't force it on other people and don't be a dick about it…hmm, that kinda sounds like familiar behaviour, though, does it not?!

I have ABSOLUTELY NO ISSUE with other people liking Misha, Cas or Destiel when it’s for the love of the characters and the ship. What I *do* have an issue with is people who are the true definition of a Heller. I don’t see that as a generic term, don't be ignorant and think I do because I know the difference between actual ship fans and the crazies, both ships have ‘em and I want no part of either of their venom. If you are reading this and class yourself as a Heller then you are part of the problem so run along and as you are all so fond of saying, 'get help' and take your bestie king with you.

I’m stating my opinion in what I feel is the most mature way I can, because unlike many people on SM, I am an adult and can act accordingly, with forethought and without resorting to temper tantrums and bullying of other people to get my point across. I am able to tell the difference between reality and fiction, I don't tar everyone with the same shipper brush and I don't expect everyone to agree with my opinion, but as we know opinions are like arseholes, we all have them and sometimes they stink. Unlike some, for the most part in life (online and offline) I *do* stand by what I say and don’t backtrack or delete things to appease the masses. I have spent a lot of time writing this out to be as clear as possible without being intentionally hateful. Bear with me jumping between actor and character where relevant, at this point they're conjoined. I will say this before I go any further, it doesn’t end well for Misha, I don’t mince my words and if you don’t like seeing facts and opinions laid out, this isn't the post for you.

I’ll say right off the bat what most of you have surmised - I’ve never held Misha (or Cas) in high esteem but I have never *hated* on him. I have shared mild criticism of his actions and opinions on Cas over the years but never, I feel, in any way that has made me feel I have something to apologise for. I have said several times I've been unhappy about Misha crashing con panels, taking attention away from J2 when at those cons *most* people paid their hard earned money to see the STARS of the show they love, first and foremost, and anyone else is a very nice bonus. The odd appearance here and there crashing a panel is fine (and Misha isn’t the first or last person to do it), maybe take up a few minutes then leave, but when someone commandeers an entire panel, that's just not on. It's not only selfish, rude and attention seeking but also disrespectful to other actors, fans and to the organisers who work hard to make sure everything ties in to give us the best con experience we can have. Everyone gets their turn on stage, there's no need to try and hog any more of the limelight, Veruca Salt style. Oh, and if you’re reading this and not getting that reference, (a) you shouldn’t be on my blog because you’re far too young, (b) look it up, and if you still don’t get what I’m saying… well then please refer to point (a). Thank you, kindly!

There was a time in Kripke's era where Cas was - I feel - intentionally used as a pawn by the writers to divert *canon* from the ‘questionable’ relationship between Sam and Dean, i.e. Wincest focus. Prior to that people (other fans) lightened up and just accepted the fact that Wincest had been there since day one in terms of the writing of the show and the fandom. All the cast and crew knew - J2, Kripke and JDM in particular - and made light of it, never judging, never shaming and often encouraging it because they understand it’s a fun part of fandom. Wincest was present enough to be part of the not so subtle subtext, as I said people just accepted it. Kink tomato was alive and well, so was ‘don’t like, don’t read’ and we all just scrolled over things we didn’t like without turning everything into a personal vendetta and excuse for bullying others who didn’t share our views. When the angels came into the plot I think most of us Wincest fans gave the Dean/Cas innuendos the small laugh they deserved and then turned back to the focus of the show which was the brothers, as it had always been intended. Misha, however, milked those moments as much as possible which was amusing at the start but got old *very* quickly, not just for fans (shippers and non shippers alike), but for other actors, in particular Jensen who is on record MULTIPLE times showing his dislike for Destiel. He told people outright that's not how he was playing the relationship between the two characters and CATEGORICALLY said "Destiel doesn't exist" but did it end there? No, it did not because neither fans or Misha let it go, in fact Misha only pushed more, goaded fans into flogging the same dead horse as much as possible. He’s never stopped, not even when there was so much discord in the fandom, a huge wedge was driven into it because of ships, which IMO he heavily contributed to.

Fast forward to over a decade later (a decade, seriously man, let it fucking go!) he didn’t even stop when Destiel did partially go canon. I have never doubted that Cas loved Dean (Sam, too) because in SPN lore angels are made to love, even rebellious ones. I, along with many others, liked that about Cas because who doesn't love a rebel, especially one rebelling for very good reasons, and because of those two wonderful men? Sam and Dean allowed him to see beyond what he'd been brainwashed to believe his entire existence. The fact is that although the nature of that love changed for Cas, it never did for Dean and was CANONICALLY UNREQUITED because Dean was incapable of loving anyone else as much as he loved Sam. All that mattered to Dean, even when he saw other characters as "family" was still Sam…ALWAYS Sam, every step of the way. Again for those who have too much Misha shaped wax in their ears, that’s canon. Whether people choose to see that love platonically or romantically is up to them, soulmates don't always have to be romantic, either way, brotherly love won out above all else on the show. No amount of Misha screaming ‘hey look, Destiel!’ changed that, but it sure didn’t stop him trying, did it?

So now that the obvious has been stated, here's something else we all know - never once in all of the years on the show did Misha drop rallying of the troops to his precious, ego stroking ship. Never once (that I am aware of) has he called out his Minions and Hellers on their continued harassment of everyone involved in the show and other fans despite the fact that they have bullied, victimised and wished bodily harm, rape and death on people who don't see their ship and because didn't get the ending to the story that they wanted. Not once has Misha shown any remorse for the trauma his "fans" have caused, and I’m taking REAL trauma, here, not the kind Twitter stans see as ‘triggering’ - people have been driven to close SM accounts, attempted, and in some cases succeeded in taking their own lives. These Minions have openly mocked Jared’s struggles with depression and anxiety, and Misha - who claims to be friends with J2 and be supportive of them in every way - has stood by and let it all play out, knowing full well some of the goings on, if not the full extent of how toxic these people are. We know he sees things being said online, and I have absolutely no doubt he spends time online searching his name for things that are relevant in some way to him in an effort to insert himself into a current conversation, or even start one so that attention is on him. Gotta stay relevant, somehow, right, Mish?

He has actively encouraged bullying by his actions of enabling the behaviours above, both by the flogging of the aforementioned dead horse, AND by not objecting to unacceptable behaviours. Remember when Minions and Hellers were slating J2, particularly Jared, for not posting on SM about BLM and other topics? Yeah, he didn’t ask them to stop doing that, either, even when he was tagged in things along the lines of ‘If Misha can post why can’t J2?’ etc. There have been some token protests, con vids I've seen have show his 'objections' which IMO have been done in a very tongue in cheek way, meaning that those people who needed to be pulled aside and told to change their ways just carried on, because their evil overlord didn’t explicitly explain it in terms a three year old could understand that bullying and forcing your opinion on others is WRONG. Not all of his cult are young and impressionable, not by a long shot, but many of the more vocal and vitriolic ones are.

As a father himself I wonder what Misha would do if he found out that his kids were behaving in ways his Minions are? I’m aware they’re young, but kids are cruel and bullying doesn’t just happen online. Even at whatever age they are, would he laugh it off the way he appears to have done with all of this fandom toxicity? Not bloody likely! I wonder if he’s as desperate to gain the approval of his family, friends and colleagues as he appears to be for that of his Minions/Hellers? I would certainly hope so, but that question can only be answered by Misha, himself, and I can and will not presume to speak on someone else's behalf on things in their personal life. For the record I would never presume I know what J2's answers would be on anything, however I do feel that after 15 years I have an accurate gauge on what kind of people they are so would be confident that any opinion I had on a matter aligns with their morals and ethics. As much as J2 have shared of themselves with us - willingly and under no pressure to do so, I might add - we don't *know* them, but we know enough to have an informed opinion. I can’t say the same for Misha because based on the behaviour he’s repeatedly displayed, things I've heard about from other fans as well as people I know IRL who have had direct dealings with him through cons or GISH (including some very actively in the early days when it was GISHWHES) he just hasn’t seemed like a person I wanted to follow on SM. I’ve never watched any of his solo panels, though I have watched ones with both or one of the J's, mostly being left irritated because of his behaviour. Watching the J’s put up with that shit is painful, and it’s a testament to how good they are as actors that they managed to hide at least some of their disdain for as long as they did. Microexpressions give them away, particularly Jensen, and they certainly have faces I have spent many years watching closely. Beautiful faces to go with beautiful souls, both of them! <3

I have precisely ZERO interest in Destiel as a ship, very little interest in Cas as a character anymore (though I did like him in the early days,and his relationship with Jack in late seasons) so I have absolutely no reason or desire to follow anything Misha does. That said, I've obviously been peripherally aware of some things he's been involved in because of friends, from things I’ve seen on SM and general fandom stuff. Despite the things I've already mentioned about his behaviour, up until now I have been able to maintain a level of respect for him as a person because of the humanitarian and charity work he's done. He seems like someone who really does want to change the world for the better and I am in full support of that fact, so much so that I have supported TWO campaigns relating to him. I bought one of the Super Good t-shirts for the campaign he did with Michael Sheen (a true angel!), the SPN/Good Omens x-over to help homeless charities, and I chose the design with text only and not artwork of Michael and Misha on, basically because I didn’t want to be wearing something with Misha’s face on it and I make absolutely no apology for that, whatsoever. I also bought Alex's #TheEndHasNoEnd shirt, which some of the profits went to Random Acts who do great work, so again, despite not liking Misha I still willingly contributed for a cause bigger than me, and to support Alex, who I absolutely ADORE. I'm aware that Stands aren't popular with some of the fandom, however since most of the cast of SPN are happily affiliated with them then I don't feel it's my place to either judge, or to discuss topics I know next to nothing about. But I digress, as a decent human being I have shown support tangentially to a man who I don't care for out of respect for the work he does outside the fandom. Telling you this isn’t to paint myself in a good light - I don’t need your approval, I’m a big girl, unlike some I don’t need constant validation! - only to provide background on how I’ve actively *not* hated on Misha.

Now though, any respect I had for him has come to an abrupt end, the events of the past 24 hours has seen to that. Whilst I have been annoyed at his behaviour in regards to shipping, I don't feel it's ever gone this far, or at least not that I've seen first hand. This man has, IMO, contributed to so much toxicity in the fandom by way of things I've mentioned before, he's claimed - without actually saying the words - that Wincest fans weren't interested in him as a character when he came onto the show, and hasn’t felt included because of the fans’ love of the brothers. Um, hate to break it to you, love, but when you come onto an established show that is about two people, and you’re a *guest star* you can’t expect everyone to love you. Some characters we as individuals do fall in love with straight away (Bobby, Charlie, Crowley and Rowena are good examples for me), it takes time to establish a dynamic, so if that’s how he felt then it was incredibly naive of him as an actor to expect instant acceptance from anyone. Also, why wait until after the show finished to bring it up AGAIN … oh wait, yeah, that would be to step back into the limelight in a way intended to garner sympathy from Minions and INTENTIONALLY piss off bro fans and Wincest shippers alike? How fucking self centred, desperate and disrespectful do you have to be to shit all over the finale of a show that for the most part accepted you and kept you in paid work for 12 years? Well, Misha Collins levels of all of those things, obviously.

So, on the topics of self centred, desperate to stay relevant, attention seeking and being oh so needy, the tweet yesterday from Amazon mentioned Castiel. He wasn’t tagged in it, so I refer to my earlier comment about searching online, because how else would he have possibly seen that? It’s possible someone sent it to him, I appreciate that, but if we go off past behaviour it’s not any stretch at all to believe that didn’t happen. So, once again, having seen the tweet he took it upon himself to - oh so predictably - turn it into something relating to Destiel. When I saw it I immediately rolled my eyes and thought ‘here we go again’, but then also had a little smile because I really liked the fact that he explicitly mentioned Wincest, therefore seeming to accept that his poor old dead horse wasn’t the only one in the race. I actually mentally tipped my hat to him then because it appeared that he’s matured enough to acknowledge by name the ship that predates his inclusion on the show. Great, I thought, this is a positive thing in a sea of negativity surrounding the man and his sunken ship, because what followed was Wincest trending in the US (it may also have been other countries as well but I had to sleep!) … largely due to the fact that Hellers were responding to it, calling him out on mentioning the dreaded ‘W’ word. I’ll repeat that because it’s been a rare occurrence up to that point… the Minions were actually disappointed with their overlord for mentioning another ship. We all know what they think of it and I for one, don’t give a flying fuck about their opionion. Ship and let ship, it’s all fun (or meant to be) so we have different tastes, that’s life kiddiwinks, deal with it. I mean, you really don’t have much of an example set for you when your king has proven several times over to be one of the biggest obnoxious brats out there, but just give it a try for your own sakes, yeah? Awesome, good on you, besties!

An unexpected development - to my joy and that of other Wincest shippers - them doing that got the topic trending, only *kept* trending by the fact that were all coming online asking why it was trending. Wincest shippers barely lifted a finger, we just flooded each other’s timelines with lovely content and basked in the Hellers - and Misha - shooting themselves in the foot, which was awesome. But did the vitriol stop? No. Did he get the attention he so clearly craves? Yes. Was it in the way he wanted? Fuck no, so poor, emotionally wounded baby backtracked after seeing that his name was trending alongside Wincest because that’s *so* not what someone narcissistic to do it in the first place, wanted.

Now here’s where I could easily have just moved on with an unusually fond chuckle, giving him an ironic pat on the back and a ‘thanks, Misha’ for being the one to instigate hours of fun, but once again his despicable behaviour made that impossible. It’s been more than obvious for many years that he cares more about what his fans think than anything else to do with the show and the fandom in a larger sense, but to delete the tweet and APOLOGISE for daring to be so insensitive to the snowflakes’ delicate sensibilities for mentioning Wincest in the first place was absolutely disgusting. Stating , “I used a term that I had never really given any thought to other than, "that's a thing?! Yuck." is not only complete and utter bullshit, it’s pandering of the highest order.

We all know he has referred to Wincest on multiple occasions, so to say he hadn’t thought about is a flat out lie, which IMO is an insult to everyone, not just Wincest shippers. Does the man have no self respect at all, why would you contradict yourself in the face of such overwhelming evidence? Instead of either ignoring all the people calling him out, or addressing it with another tweet saying ‘yeah, that happened’ or something similar he chose, I repeat, CHOSE the route of claiming he didn’t realise he was being offensive to people who felt ‘triggered’ by him using the word Wincest. He basically shat all over an entire ship and large sector of the fandom in an attempt to appease his own fan base which consists of a lot of children (or those that act like children) who have no idea what RL is like.

Once again, he’s reinforced the idea that if you shout loud enough at someone just because you don’t like something they said, they will back down and apologise for something even when there’s nothing to apologise for. If he wants to be such a role model then he could easily have pointed out that a fictional ship doesn’t condone RL incest, any ACTUAL trauma people have suffered because of RL situations, and made an effort to make sure people understand that. He COULD have used it as an opportunity to do some good in the fandom by encouraging people to build bridges, to accept that people are entitled to their beliefs and that sometimes we see things differently but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t treat others with BASIC HUMAN DECENCY because of it. Instead he YET AGAIN chose to show that he cares more about what Minions think of him, keeping them onside to constantly stroke his unbelievably fragile ego in everything he does.

It is my understanding that Misha is big on (or claims to be big on) putting positive energy out into the world, treating people with respect, helping others and accepting people for who they are, not who you want them to be… all this after YEARS of consistently practising what he preaches only when it suits him. He sends out a message that it’s perfectly OK to bully, to spread hate, to draw attention to yourself at the cost of others, to throw colleagues and friends under the bus and at the same time use them to further your own agenda and get hits for your YouTube channel. Is this really the legacy he wants to leave? Is this an environment he wants his own kids to grow up in as well as future generations? Is this what he thinks is a valuable contribution as a human being? JFC, the arrogance, hypocrisy and the need for constant validation this man exhibits is nothing short of cringeworthy… actually it’s beyond that. It’s deplorable behaviour, it’s not new, and he will continue to act like this for as long as he’s being enabled and this harmful cycle needs to end.

I have friends IRL and online who are (now, possibly, were) big Misha fans, who have supported him from either the beginning of his run on the show, or since they started watching, and this is how he repays this behaviour? He’s willfully alienating decent people (including multishippers) all to make himself look good by being seen to do everything he can not to offend people. Spoiler alert, you DID offend people, you continue to do so time and again and we’ve had enough. I can’t imagine how exhausting it must be to be such a perpetual people pleaser, but let me say it’s not doing you any favours in any way, shape or form.

Misha, you are *not* a role model, you’re *not* someone to look up to when you can't live up to the ideals you preach. You’re spitting in the face of people who have supported you even after some questionable things in the past, who gave you the benefit of the doubt because we’re all human and we all make mistakes. The key to growing as a person is not to keep repeating the same mistakes over and over, understanding *why* what you said and/or did was a mistake and making a concerted effort to make changes. I don’t ever see you doing that, you will continue down this path of only caring about Minions under the guise of caring for people in general. You are transparent, you are sad and despite the fact I’ve never particularly liked you, I didn’t speak up because I didn’t want to get involved in the drama. Well now I have spoken up and I’m saying you’re a disgrace, you have no respect for other people and nobody is fooled anymore. If it hadn’t been this tweet it would have been something else, but I for one am glad it happened so soon after the show ended so we can finally be rid of the limpet-like behaviour. It’s over, let it go for the sake of what dignity you might have left, for the sake of your family and friends and for the sake of anyone who isn’t capable of seeing through your ‘it’s a joke’ mentality.

You have been weighed, you have been measured and you have been found wanting. Fuck you and the horse you rode in on, Misha.

For anyone who made it to the end of my ramble, thank you. This has been a cathartic exercise and I’m drawing a line under it now, I don’t think I could possibly make my thoughts any clearer. I urge you not to get caught up in any petty squabbles with his Minions, let’s celebrate J2 and other cast and crew members who have shown us all respect and who I am proud to call part of the SPN family. There’s always one member of the family who needs to be frozen out for the good of everyone else.

sorry about this. i don't know if it's worth apologizing for this shit anymore but this is a particularly bad one. anyway. #mpregpocalypse.

okay so like. before i start this post. here's some background reading. not all of it is directly related but all of it has to do with vibes.

anyway. been thinking about a really horrible mpreg au, as is my trademark apparently. in this case it's like. okay. season six. dean and lisa break up. we're assuming that cas is doing like. a good amount of deanwatching so he's like. paying attention. monitoring.

so like. at time of breakup, lisa was like. two weeks pregnant. it is dean's. so cas is like..... well i don't want dean to be tied to this woman since he clearly doesn't want to be. but i don't want to just destroy what is technically his progeny. so what if i just. yoinked it. and kept it in stasis in my grace. for the future. when dean is Ready To Retire And Be A Father. yeah. i think i'm being called to do that.

anyway once he goes godstiel he's like. well, dean can retire now :3. in fact, he will retire :3. nothing will ever touch or bother him again :3. also i am god and can do what i want :3. so why not :3. why shouldn't i have dean's baby :3. so he sort of. impregnates himself with the stolen fetus. but like, he isn't godstiel for that long. less than a month probably. and then of course he walks into a lake.

now, i'm going to play a bit fast and loose with the timeline here, such that cas comes back somewhat earlier and then stays catatonic significantly longer. but like. okay.

cas comes back as emmanuel and he is not like. really visibly pregnant. not obviously so. his clothing is baggy and comfortable so you can't really see it. and emmanuel didn't know he was pregnant.

then cas gets his memories back and is like ooh! how about i lie to dean about this and don't tell him that i stole his and lisa's fetus and impregnated myself with it. i can leave that as a problem for later-me to deal with. and then he takes on sam's hell memories and goes catatonic, without ever telling dean.

but now like. now it's time for reading is fundamental. and cas is now like.... eight or nine months pregnant (or like, the equivalent, whatever that is). like he is visibly, obviously pregnant. he is also like. avoiding things in a different way than he was before.

so when dean shows up cas is immediately like, hi dean! look i'm having your baby isn't that wonderful? and leaps into dean's arms bridal style.

and this is like, a whole nightmare. because like. first of all dean didn't know cas was pregnant and dumped him in an insane asylum. second of all dean is like. so angry with cas. and he desperately wants to take that anger out on him. but in canon reading is fundamental, he can't, because cas is too vulnerable and too avoidant, and it makes him feel guilty. this is intensified hugely here, because cas is all the things he is in reading is fundamental and also pregnant.

dean also can't really demand that cas fight for them, either. i mean, he could, but it's a significantly more uncomfortable proposition.

and also like, cas won't really give an answer when asked how this happened. or rather, he does give an answer: "dean gave me a child when he made love to me under the beautiful moonlight." but that's... obviously untrue. like, dean and cas have never had sex. like cas would really like it to be true, and he's in a mental state where he can make himself believe something if he really really wants to. but dean knows it isn't true, so he's like. what the hell is going on.

dean decides that it belongs to someone else, and cas has just decided that dean is the father because maybe he wants to please dean, or maybe the circumstances of conception were bad in some way. he suspects crowley as the actual father. the other option he considers, that cas somehow acquired dean's dna and impregnated himself on purpose, is too uncomfortable to consider. it suggests among other things too much... knowing queerness, on cas' part.

anyway the main purpose of this au is the literalization of cas being corrupted and made vulnerable by dean in reading is fundamental, like. the literalization of "it took everything to get me here." and thinking about how dean would react to a cas who he absolutely cannot be angry with, who he absolutely cannot force to fight. like, the honey cas shtick actually fully working and deflecting dean's anger. but there's some other notes.

one: if they actually end up in purgatory, cas still runs away from dean. he gives birth alone in purgatory, and when dean finds him, he has the baby with him. they don't really talk about it, and cas still doesn't tell dean where the baby actually came from. like when he eventually tells dean it will definitely be post purgatory.

two: the baby is going to be like. fairly monstrous. like technically it has two human genetic parents, but there are several factors that make it not very human. first of all, cas, when he was godstiel, did alter it to make it more his own. because he wanted it to be his and dean's baby. so it's definitely a nephil. in fact, more than a nephil, since cas is significantly more than an angel at the time. second of all, it did share a womb with a LOT of leviathans so there is some... leftover effect from that. it's a little bit leviathanish, definitely. not to mention all the monster souls. third of all, there's the whole thing of cas spending most of the pregnancy with hallucifer (which is imo a chunk of lucifer's grace) in his head, so that must have some effect. basically that baby is a fun new species and has many terrifying traits. it's probably a flesh eater.

Hey Sol! Sorry for leaving you hanging with an answer for a couple days but I had to process. And mourn, after all I said goodbye to something that has been part of me for 15 years. That's half my life. It's weird and I don't think I've ever cried as much as I have in the past 3 days but... Well. Luckily, they're happy tears. "Don't cry because it's over, cry because it happened" aside? I love the ending.

It's all I could've ever asked for. Ah, who am I kidding? It's more than that. I was prepared to be gutted in a really bad way. I am gutted but for all the right reasons. It was tragic. It was painful. It was beautiful. But most of all? It was a Love-Letter.

I know there’s a lot of people who’re upset about parts of the episode; I understand. We’re all grieving in our own ways. I hope however, that once the dust has settled and feelings stop spiking into extremes, people will realize that the episode left so many things unsaid and ambiguous... Meaning there's lots and lots of space for interpretation and headcanons to “fix” the finale into something that makes it better for you. And I’d like to think this was done on purpose.

I’m soo sorry I end up rambling on one of your asks again Sol, but I’ll do exactly that to pick up some of the things I’ve seen people be most upset about and give some of my perspective on them. Maybe it’ll help some people to feel better and grow to love the final as much as I do ♥

One thing I’ve seen a lot of people be upset about is that Dean didn’t get to live the life they’ve fought for so hard. Actually? We don’t know that. There is no timestamps, no indicators that tell us they didn’t do what we saw in the first domestic montage for a couple years. The only hint we have is that Miracle is still around and kicking, so it couldn’t have been more than maybe 6 years (because 6-8ish is when a dog that size shows clears signs of aging). Besides that? Nobody and nothing stops us in believing they had that “domestic bliss with a little bit of hunting on the side”-life for quite a while before it happened.

Them talking about mourning Cas and Jack is no indicator either. I still mourn people I lost 15 years ago, when the occasion calls for it or I remember them in moments that they would’ve loved to be part of. Mourning never stops… Of course, even 6 years aren’t a lifetime. But do we really think Dean - our Dean - would’ve been happy and content with a 9-to-5 job? Yeah, didn’t think so either...

Then, we have the rebar. Which honestly didn’t bother me at all, for several reasons. First, I love parallels and this episode was so full of them… Not only was the whole “stabbed in the back” thing a direct callback to arguably the most painful death in the series to date – Sam’s first in All Hell Breaks Loose – it was also a callback to The Song Remains the Same. The episode where Sam is stabbed by Anna – with a rebar/fixture she ripped out of the wall - and bleeds out on the floor. The only reason he got out of it alive, is because John!Michael fixed him. Otherwise? He would’ve died by being stabbed with a rebar. Just like that.

Ash himself told them that they died several times together and can’t remember because the angels don’t want them to. We, the viewers, have never seen them die together until Dark Side Of The Moon. Which strongly implies that they must’ve died on random hunts. More than once.

So Dean’s death in the barn? That’s what happens to Hunters who have no divine intervention. That’s what happens to Hunters who are living the life without being chosen for something bigger. That’s what happens to Hunters with free will. Dean’s death in the barn was a true Hunter’s death. The one he always wanted. There’s no glory, there’s nothing special about it. It just is. And I thought that was tragically poetic in its own way.

I know people were expecting them to go out Butch and Sundance style. Together – I admittedly wanted that too. But the way Dean’s death happened didn’t bother me at all. And honestly? Sam’s soul died in that barn, too. We know it did. So they did go out together, one way or another. It was just not the way we expected.

The cinematic parallels of Sam’s life without Dean to Dean’s life without Sam after Swan Song honestly floored me. It was beautifully heartbreaking.

We see Sam living his life while Dean is driving along “right there beside him, every step of the way”. We see him holding on for Dean, fulfilling the promise he made to his brother about living on. Making sure there’s always a Winchester that knows love left in the world. The final sacrifice of Sam, the bravest and strongest man we know. Sam, who sits down in the car he once called home, to be close to the one person that always held the same connotation. Sam, who knows his other half is waiting for him, sitting just there in the same spot he is. Every step of the way. That’s my Supernatural right there.

What I especially like about the whole thing is, that it once again leaves us with another take besides the one we actually saw and thought obvious. We can also pretend Sam died on that werewolf hunt, shortly after Dean’s death. There is nothing that stops you from seeing this as canon, (There’s actually quite a few hints that it’s a very strong possibility), because the way the whole scene played out could’ve easily been a daydream of Dean while he was driving in heaven.

The fact they left it open like that is a gift, in my eyes. They could’ve easily forced a fixed narrative on us. But they didn’t. Same with so many other things. They left us with so many possibilities and room for our own takes. And I think it’s fair that people need time to process what we’ve been given here. It’s fair that people are still upset about some aspects, because they have yet to realize that there is a pathway for them to see it differently, without discarding canon at all.

There’s only one thing that is not open for interpretation. And that’s that Sam and Dean love each other as much as two human beings can love each other. And none of them is complete without the other. I never quite understood why some people needed the show to end on romantic notes. Supernatural has never been about that. It has always been about the deep, abiding love those two brothers had for each other and how neither heaven nor hell ever stood a chance against it. Platonic love is just as beautiful as romantic love; sometimes even more so. And that’s what this finale showed us.

And that’s why I love it so much. Why I say it’s a Love-Letter. It’s a Love-Letter to us; The ones who’ve been there all the way from the start. The ones who’ve seen the show for what it is and what it has always been: The epic love story of Sam and Dean Winchester.

Despite all that, it is still valid to dislike the ending. You are entitled to do so. But if you really think Sam and Dean - two soulmates, surrounded by the people they love, at peace - spending the rest of eternity together in heaven is the absolute worst possible ending that destroyed everything the show ever stood for? I’m sorry, but in that case you did not understand Supernatural at all.

About the Author:

I have been writing short stories and poems since I was a teenager; I even managed to win a couple of awards in high school. I didn’t start writing fanfic until very recently, however. I posted my first fic two and a half years ago. I joined tumblr with the intent of simply reading fanfic and maybe connecting with a few people over our love for Dean and Supernatural. Yet, here I am a little over three years later, with a new creative obsession, and a horde of new friends because of writing.
