I have a head cannon that sometimes JJ kinda takes over every once in a while and Jason is the only one who can talk to Tim without him freaking out because all Tim can process in those moments is the voice and face of his Robin, his hero, who’s there to protect him. That’s very lightly digging into the depths of these head cannons but I don’t have enough time to go super into detail.

eiffel's favorite ice cream... hm. once zach said eiffel's favorite ice cream would be cotton candy dippin dots, and i love that answer. other than that... i think he likes 1) sugar, and 2) novelty. eiffel's not a same flavor every time guy; he's mixing scoops of bright neon flavors favored by children and then covering them in toppings. he also likes coffee ice cream, of course, and he doesn't think you can go wrong with chocolate. even better, combine those, too. he likes ice cream sandwiches, and the deep fried ice cream you can get at fairs. as long as it isn't trying to be fancy or healthy, i don't think he'll turn it down.

... there's also a non-zero chance that cigarette candy put the possibility of cigarette ice cream in his brain. that guy's taste buds are broken. love him so much.

A new chapter of the Baldur’s Gate 3 fic is up!  In which Zynatheri’s worst habits come back to bite her in the ass, leaving her with no support as they prepare to delve into the place she hates and fears more than anything-- the Underdark.

Astarion slowly glanced over his shoulder, his scarlet eyes pinning hers as they met, brilliant rubies that gleamed with a shocking intensity.

Every single one of her senses was screaming danger, and she inadvertently staggered back.  Before she could compose herself, he fixed her with an icy stare.  It was an ordinary sort of annoyance on his face, if not for the way her instincts were clamoring.  

“What?” he asked, voice unreadable.

Ugh, she was too sick for this.  “Whatever it is you want so you stop throwing a tantrum over likely nothing, just tell me so I can give it to you.”

“I beg your–”  Astarion’s shocked laughter cut off, and his voice hardened.  “Right, of course.  You’ve never done anything wrong, have you?  Just go away.”

“Okay, I don’t know what this charade is, but I don’t think it’s very fair after all day annoying me by poking and prodding at me that you turn around and dismiss me.  Please just tell me what to say so this can be over!”  she groaned, pushing her hands into her forehead.  Why did he keep making this complicated?

“Annoying you?  Was that what I was doing?”  Astarion asked, voice full of scornful laughter.

“I kept telling you to stop!” she protested, throwing up her hands.  There was an edge to this conversation that was arguing, not banter, and she didn’t like it.  It should have been bickering.  Bickering was much better than…this.

“And you were the one who told me that stop doesn’t mean stop.”

Zyn’s brain momentarily stopped working.  Okay, well, yes, but…  “That obviously only referred to sex.  Don’t twist things to try and be right.”

“Don’t spend all day rejecting even the slightest hint of camaraderie only to demand my attention the instant people’s backs are turned,” Astarion replied, voice heavy with condescending disdain.  He turned his knife over, staring at it critically as the metal gleamed in the light of the setting sun.  “I suppose it’s my fault, for trusting a single word that comes out of your lying mouth.  Isn’t it, darling?”

She wasn’t sure why he was accusing her of lying, but she didn’t honestly care right now, considering how awful she felt.

“Ooh, my lying mouth, hmm?  Did you suddenly acquire morals?” she asked sharply.  How dare a fucking vampire of all things try to lecture her?  She scoffed, lifting a hand and waving dismissively.  “Conveniently timed.  Don’t put yourself on a pedestal and claim you’ve found moral high ground; righteousness tarnishes when it touches you.”

She almost laughed at the viciously offended look he gave her.  Really?  After what he’d said to her, he had the gall to actually be upset by her response?  Quite honestly, his arrogance was shocking.

He’d been deliberately irritating her all day, and now he had the nerve to reject her when she just wanted some comfort and company?

But she wasn’t going to get what she wanted by antagonizing him, and she didn’t really feel up to this bickering.

“I feel bad.  Can we just stop fighting, please?”  she asked wearily, rubbing her forehead again.  “Have a lie down?”

“Oh, well, of course.  It’s all about you after all, isn’t it?  You really are the most selfish person I’ve ever had the misfortune to meet.”

Wait, what?  He was saying that to her?  Rolling her eyes, Zyn shook her head in disbelief.  “I can’t believe a vampire of all things has the gall to say that.”

Silence was her response.

It went on for long enough to make her itchy, but when she finally gave up and glanced at him, his expression stopped her dead.  It was blank.  Completely blank, and not in shock.  No, the pressure of his stare was anything but confused, and despite the lack of expression she could feel a chill shiver down her spine.  Unease rooted into her already queasy stomach, the unrelenting, unblinking stare making her take a half-step back.

The knife in his hand gleamed, fingers poised on the edge of the blade.

“I…”

Her heart froze.

“Shut. Up,” he said quietly, voice sharp with frigid menace.

“Y–”

The tension in the air snapped like a whip, a crackle of violence and impact that forcibly grabbed her by the back of the neck and pulled her away, staggering.  Instincts, puppeting her body before her mind could do something stupid.  Again.

“I said get away from me!” he snarled, vicious and icy, bolting to his feet.

Some part of her, like a rabbit leaping through the grass, drove her to flee from his presence.  Zyn staggered a couple steps in a panic, before she straightened up, shame overwhelming those baser impulses.  Ah, shame.

You know as a horror fan "cultural Christianity" is such a useful term because as an atheist as well as a horror fan and a fan of haunted house stuff if it's done well I very, very quickly noticed how many horror movies are Christian propaganda. So few horror movies involving religion (which is a shocking amount of them btw) pick any religion that's not Christianity to center itself around and when they do that religion is bad and evil, not the cause of evil and the savior from it (because the demons may be Christian, but God and the bible are also the solutions in a way other religions aren't granted. Bonus points if it's an indigenous religion being portrayed as Evil and Bad).

Pretty much any exceptions I can think of to that rule use Judaism and the Holocaust as a backdrop and never in like a normal, the Holocaust is horrible way it's always playing on myths of Nazi Germany's experimentation on the Jewish population. Which I find highly troubling and disturbing, but regardless nothing like being a horror fan to convince you of cultural Christianity because no other genre leans on religion as a plot device so much unless it's straight up a Christian movie for a Christian audience using Christianity as it's main theme and through line.

Scar pauses, surprised, before smiling and signing ‘I love you’ back.

He mirrors the smile, feeling warm.

Just a soft moment in a painful AU. This AU was based on a tweet I saw about a what if of Grian surviving the warden only to have been deafened by it. Unsure if it was a reply or by the OP, but it got added of Scar knowing sign language/having a book on it. I did create an AU about that exactly, but this one is a lingering effects AU.

Grian died to the warden, but it still caused him to go deaf, even back on Hermitcraft. All deaths from Double Life left big impacts on every member. They all get perk associated with their deaths, but there’s also a lot of pain too. Either regular or recurring pain related to their deaths.

Desert duo gets the bonus of hearing issues with this. Scar can still hear since the damage from soulmates isn’t 1:1, but his hearing is definitely weaker now. Due to him being able hear normal conversation pretty well, he becomes a translator for Grian since not every hermit knows sign language (they definitely start learning it though).

These two need some soft moments between the trauma :(

Another thing, Grian does speak in this. He continues talking to people out loud, since he only lost his hearing. He chose to sign here as a way of showing his appreciation to Scar showing so much care to him and helping him (this is soon after he starts learning sign language). Grian definitely has a lot of issues in this AU, he blames himself a lot for everything him and Scar go through in this AU. Amongst a lot of other stuff like what he did in Double Life.

I kinda want to go back and revamp some parts of this AU now. Which would either hurt everyone more or help them.

When writing for this AU anything in ‘’ as opposed to “” is something signed. I wanted a distinction between speaking and signing here so I went with single quotes over double quotes.

Oh Fuck, The Deep Roads Part 3

Hawke stared at him. She hadn’t slept in at least 24 hours. She was filthy. She was wearing Varric’s jacket to cover the giant holes in her shirt. She had almost died. So maybe she was dreaming it.

“He lived, Hawke. He’s… well, sleeping is the nice word for it, but he survived. He’s a Grey Warden now, Maker help the poor sod,” Anders reiterated, rubbing his forehead with his hand.

“He’s alive. He’s alive!” Hawke leapt onto Anders, arms thrown around his neck, balancing on her toes so she could put every bit of strength in her hug. “He’s alive because of you, thank you!”

“I just carted him to a bunch of Wardens. I didn’t--” Anders tried to point out, arms automatically around her waist as he smiled tiredly at her enthusiasm.

“No, shut up, he’s alive because of you. Thank you,” Hawke said, pulling back far enough to meet his eyes. She grinned, then kissed his cheek, firmly but briefly. “Thank you.”

“You forgot the part where he saved you, Birdie,” Varric said, smirking at Anders’ flummoxed expression.

“Oh, right!” She leaned up to kiss Anders’ other cheek. “Tell Justice one of those is for him, too.”

“Uh. Okay?” Anders stammered.

“Great. Everyone lived,” Fenris yanked Hawke away from Anders, making her yelp in surprise, and hauled her towards the bedroll she’d never gotten around to lying on. “You need sleep. We still have a long way to go and I don’t want you getting yourself killed again.”

“Is it killed again if I didn’t technically die the--I’ll shut up now,” Hawke said quickly, hands up in surrender, when all three men glared at her. She all but flopped onto the bedroll, groaning slightly when the solid rock beneath her admittedly too thin bedroll made her still tender torso ache.

Carver was alive. She pressed her face into the threadbare lump of a pillow, grinning in relief. He’s alive. He’ll be a Warden, a hero. Maybe he’ll finally find his own feet, and when they meet again one day, they’ll find a way to be better. Better siblings. Better friends.

The other three were talking quietly near the fire behind her as she settled more comfortably. She didn’t bother trying to figure out what they were saying, probably looking at the maps and planning out a course. For once, she didn’t feel like being in the middle of it. She was tired and so so relieved. She wanted to lay there and feel like it was all going to work out.

The murmur of Anders’ voice broke her reverie. Slowly, so they wouldn’t see her moving, Hawke lifted her hand and touched her fingertips to her lips. If she tried hard enough, she could remember the fleeting burn of his facial hair, hear the quietly surprised inhale, and the weight of his arms around her waist to hold her steady. She smiled, small and secret, heart thumping.

He had made it clear that only the thinnest and most innocent teasing was allowed. Even then, he would stop sometimes, pull away, shut down and shut her out.

Maybe a year ago, we could’ve had something…

She pressed her fingers harder against her lips. Her eyes squeezed shut.

At least she could keep this. A few innocent cheek kisses done in sheer relief. She hadn't even really thought about it before doing it, but in hindsight it had her spinning. Aching. There wasn’t anything too bad about it... right? The memory of his voice in her ear calling her 'sweetheart' and that kiss on her forehead were also hers to keep. Stolen moments in the depths of the Deep Roads and terror. She should feel more guilty for treasuring them, for repeating them over and over in her head, for rubbing her fingertips over her lips. But she didn’t.

not to derail but i think the reason why american english is so easy to learn and to speak for a lot of people is exactly because correct enunciation doesn't matter one bit really. as long as you make a noise that has the right vowels and kinda similar consonants people will understand what you're saying 90% of the time. and so i think, other than imperialism of course, this is one of the reasons why english is everyone in the world's "common tongue" now. even with a really thick accent english is still understandable, way more than most other majorly spoken languages. i mean, just fucking take a listen to french! or don't actually unless you want your ears to start bleeding.

so yeah in conclusion i think the reason why english is the language everyone learns and communicates in is because of this specific lack of a need to properly pronounce things, making it so much easier than most other languages for non native speakers. :)
