i don't get why robin and eddie clocking each other is so popular. firstly i find it kind of cheap esp since it's usually a set-up for robin and/or eddie being all-knowing arbiters of lgbt knowledge while steve is clueless and dumb and not lgbt enough (despite usually being bi) to partake in this exchange as well. then it's otherwise used to establish an immediate connection between robin and eddie since they are both gay which automatically makes them besties. secondly it doesn't make much sense w what we see of either robin or eddie. like we know robin struggles w social cues and we see that that extends to sexual orientation through her interactions w vickie. also i think she is just not paying that much attention to eddie i must be honest. then w eddie he spends his time campaigning for the stancy revival while steve blatantly stares at his mouth so. i don't think he'd be good at that either. like the irony in this being so common is that steve is the person that does clock someone else on top of being consistently socially and emotionally intelligent and perceptive. idk sometimes i feel like ppl take him not clocking robin as proof he's incapable of it despite him then clocking someone later and being right, and that s3 scene fitting into the broader context of steve being lonely, insecure, and off his game for most of s3 as well as between s2 and s3. tbh missed comedy potential w steve being the one person in that trio that actually knows what's happening.

Eddie had a man he deliberately broke a moment of romantic tension between his love interest by throwing a vest at his face staring at his lips and still pushed him towards said love interest. Sir. what are you doing. and once it's clear stncy isn't happening you know eddie would be like okay. why aren't you dating Robin? hmm? she's cool! and causes Steve to Suffer. (Steve was flirting with Eddie .5 seconds before he started on this please get with the program Eddie!!)

Also think it's silly that people would stereotype Eddie as Queer from how he dresses as though that's not just how a lot of people dressed? long hair was In in the 80s. Metal fashion was there. It also likely had some/a lot of ingrained homophobia in the subculture (as many things did). Sorry Eddie, but I'm pretty sure our boy Brucie did more for the gays than metallica. Steve's the only one of these three that 1) knows how to flirt 2) knows when someone is flirting with him 3) has consistently demonstrated being emotionally and socially intelligent to observe people (more than arguably anyone else in the series) and 4) has any kind of functioning gaydar. “You. Are. Amazing!” Steve enthused, punctuating each word with a kiss to your face as you tried to take your seat in one of the bowling alley’s molded plastic chairs. You scrunched up your nose, but couldn’t help but smile when he pressed a kiss there too.

“Steve, c’mon, it’s your turn.” You protested, laughing when he leaned in to steal a kiss from your lips. He tasted like cheap pizza and cheaper beer, but you couldn’t find it in yourself to complain when he pulled away, beaming like you were a gift from above. He had a way of smiling that just made everything feel warm and soft and pleasant, even if you hadn’t wanted to be here when he first pitched the idea of a bowling date.

“Okay, but did you see what you just did? That was a 7-10 split, babe, and you knocked it down, no problem!” He stood, but didn’t leave just yet, swooping in to press a kiss to the crown of your hair, “You’re brilliant.”

“You told me how, Stevie.” You shoved him playfully towards the ball return and he huffed, crossing his arms over his chest. Steve who sung your praises when you got out of bed in the morning, Steve who awarded you with kisses when you made a decision between two tough choices on a restaurant menu, Steve who had a photo collage on his mirror of all your greatest accomplishments (One of which was you finishing an entire milkshake all to yourself. He had a looser definition of accomplishment than you did.)

“Yes, but you did it, babe. You executed on it. Not everyone could do that.”

You grabbed the front of his polo and yanked him down, pressing an urgent kiss to his lips that was equal parts affection and a last-ditch effort to get him to shut up and take his turn.

You succeeded in shutting him up, but you only served to make him more reluctant to leave your side. He pouted when you pulled away, honey eyes seeking yours pleadingly even as you turned towards the bowling lane.

“One more?”

“And then you’ll take your turn?”

He nodded solemnly and you acquiesced, turning to face him again so that he could take the kiss he’d been trying to steal.

Steve smelled like his cologne and aftershave, he had just finished fixing his hair in front of the mirror from his bathroom before walking down to his backyard. He was throwing a small Christmas party with his friends and the kids.

It's been a hell of a year, he thought to himself. He almost barely survived the Upside Down, the scars around his neck and his stomach were a living reminder of what it felt like hell for him.

Not only him, but also for the man standing across the beer pong table. Eddie felt like he was a second away from life that day, almost being eaten alive left him living with PTSD. Almost every day he would have nightmares about that day, the event screaming back at him, the feeling of the demo bats eating his flesh.

After all those past months, both of them gladly had their friends help. They were constantly talking to each other as well, as long as doing therapy. They would call each other almost every day and make each other company so they wouldn't think too much about the attack. And that was when they started feeling something switching between them.

Eddie was the first to bring it up and Steve, of course, freaked out. He wasn't expecting to actually feel something that different and unfamiliar. Suddenly, they realized they had a crush on each other.

The metalhead watched as his friend approached their group of friends, bringing a pack of beer, watching as they enjoyed the game, already half-drunk.

Steve looked up and met Eddie's gaze at him. He smoothly grinned at the man, his hands were stubbornly shaking just at the sight of Eddie looking at him like that. They were about to exchange Christmas gifts and he was already nervous, wondering what he was getting.

Eddie walked up to Steve, helping him place the bottles of beer on the table before they left for a few minutes.

They walked to Steve's living room side by side, not actually giving a fuck about their friends. Because they knew.

The girls knew way before the former King of Hawkins High realized what he was feeling.

“Oh, my God Eddie! You like Steve!” Nancy blurted out one time. She and Robin met with him after he asked them for advice about some “different feelings” he's been having, as he said.

“Holy shit, my friend is bi!” Robin almost lit up fireworks after that.

And then, when they met with Steve after both him and Eddie had the talk, the girls were so happy it was almost too weird. Robin even started giving her best friend advice, especially during their break at the Family Video.

Steve was the first to grab the package and handed it to the man in front of him. Eddie took the gift and stared at him, narrowing his eyes.

“I swear you'll love it. Henderson helped me pick up” He said, his lip twitched in awe as he saw Eddie's expression change after hearing Dustin's name.

“Dustin fucking helped you with this? I'm more concerned now” He joked.

Rolling his eyes, Steve nudged the box into the man's chest. “Just open it”.

And as soon as he did, his face lit up and his jaw dropped. He couldn't control the excitement after seeing a new set of Dungeons and Dragons inside the box.

“Not fucking way! Thanks, man” Eddie filled the small space between them, giving him a sided hug. His fingertips brushed against Steve's left cheek, who almost faltered at the touch.

“You gotta keep the Master of Dungeon role-play going” He said, trying to not sound too nervous around his friend. But sometimes it was just impossible.

And Eddie always noticed the nervousness, but somehow managed to be the one to actually make this new interaction less uncomfortable for both of them.

“What did you get me?” He asked as he saw Eddie's grin grow wide on his face. The chains on his jeans were jiggling as he walked toward the couch and held up a bag and lifted it up for him to grab it.

The metalhead watched as his friend opened it up and faced the denim vest he had mentioned about before.

Steve was speechless.

Before even considering liking Eddie, he said he liked the fabric when the man handed it to him that day. It was in the Upside Down. After that, he gave it back to Eddie only a few months later, after they were past the trauma and all the jnjuries.

“It was about fucking time. I almost forgot I had that vest” He laughed as Steve tossed it to him. Back then, he was recovering at his new trailer, where he was living with his uncle. Eddie was always getting visits from his friends and Steve.

“Yeah man, I really liked it and almost got it for myself” Steve joked, sitting next to the guy on the couch. “How are you recovering?”

It was really hard to talk about it then, they shared almost the same experience, so they knew exactly how it was to be almost eaten alive.

Day after day, they were hanging out and talking on the phone. They started to look forward to seeing and talking to each other, as much as sharing jokes and laughs. It didn't matter if it was about the event or something else.

“No way, man. This is your vest!” Steve couldn't even hide he was surprised by Eddie's gesture. It was more meaningful than he thought it was.

“Yeah, you said you liked it, and it honestly looks good on you” He teases, leaving the guy with flushed cheeks. Eddie smirked and watched as the other one dressed the vest over the sweater he was wearing.

“You're not wrong, though” Both of them laughed as Steve playfully spun around.

They stared at each other for a few seconds, eyes focused on both faces. The music outside was a blur, the room suddenly became a little warmer.

The host broke the flirtation and smiled. “Can you help me out with something in the kitchen?” He asked suddenly, but Eddie just nodded.

Clueless of what it was, he looked around the kitchen island, not having any idea of what kind of help he was looking for.

“What the hell do you want, Harrington? There's nothing here” He let out a scoff, watching as Steve grinned, biting the inside of his cheeks.

He looked up, and Eddie followed his gaze, eyes on a mistletoe hanging above them.

“Oh… Are you sure you want-”

Steve cut him off, he didn't want Eddie to have second thoughts about his decision, so he nodded. “Yeah”.

Before his friend could come up with anything else, he planted a soft kiss on Eddie's lips. His ringed fingers tugged on a few strands of the nape of Steve's neck, making him shiver under the careful touch.

He actually didn't know what to do next. Clearly, Steve didn't have as much attitude as the other one has. The only thing he thought about was cupping Eddie's jaw. And man, did the curly haired guy like it.

It was sudden, different and good. So good. It was light, but warming to the touch, it felt right. It didn't have malice, obviously, but it made him feel something building up inside his body.

Steve felt a spark under his skin, he felt like a struck of lightning was running through his veins.

They spent a couple of minutes only savoring each other's lips before Robin showed up, carefully walking through the living room, watching her friends share their first kiss.

She cleared her throat feeling nervous about how their reaction would be and stared as both of them took a moment to break the kiss.

“Uh… I'm sorry, but Jonathan wants all of us to take a picture together. You're both required” She said, already spinning around ready to leave them alone.

Steve yelled her name, and she stopped by her tracks, looking at them once again.

“It's fine. You don't need to be embarrassed” He reassured and Eddie wrapped one of his arms around the man's waist.

“I'm sorry, I thought you guys wouldn't like to be seen exchanging saliva” Both of the guys snorted at her statement, and she felt lighter.

“Rob, don't worry about that. It would've happened anytime” Eddie earned a taunted slap on his ass from Steve and they all laughed.

They all gathered together for the picture Jonathan was about to take. He set up the timer and positioned himself next to Nancy and Will.

They were all busy fighting to get in the shot, not even noticing how close Eddie and Steve were. They were smelling each other's colognes as their skin were touching while their arms were rubbing against each other.

Five seconds before the shot, Steve turned his head to face the man next to him. “Merry Christmas, Ed. I'm glad you're with us today”.

“I'm glad to be here with you, especially” He said. Before they could look at the Polaroid camera, the flash went on.

A few minutes later and they were all talking about how great the picture turned out. Only then making sure to point out how Steve and Eddie weren't looking at the camera. Instead, they were staring at each other, their faces with a tender smile and a new history for them to talk about.

From that day on, they knew they were doomed. One, because their friends won't let the fact that they were madly in love with each other. And two, because it was impossible to not like each other.

Hi! Thanks for your ask! This is a good question, and this is my first ask so don’t apologize! Currently my mains are

Dazai/Chuuya aka Soukoku from BSD, I really like their dynamic, just the familiarity they had when they came on screen for the first time together. I think Bungou is really well execute though, so S2 showing that they still can come together and pretty much treat each other the same way / exasperation with no heat? And then the light novels are soo helpful too! I really think they’re sweet for each other, and I just think that’s neat! Plus there’s so much to unpack with their relationship! Yeah Chuuya wasn’t happy when Dazai left, but did he really resent him for it? Did he take it personally? What are they going to do now? All they do whenever they’re together is their best to protect each other.

Gojo Satoru / Geto Suguru from Jujutsu Kaisen, the tragedy! Oh man! It took me a bit to get on board with this, but I’m in for life now. It was the “My six eyes tell me your Geto but my soul knows otherwise.” I haven’t looked back. Gojo so shamelessly admitted that and Geto fighting back? They actually remind me a lot of Soukoku, with the obvious being Gojo = Dazai and Geto = Chuuya, but also Gojo was the one who got left just like Chuuya. So much went wrong for these two when it didn’t have to! If Geto had just took the time to explain, if he didn’t stubbornly try to rationalize his mistake, if Gojo had not taken Geto’s words at face value, if he’d’ve pushed a little more. I really love the impact they had in each other. Geto is the reason Gojo pushes for a better future for young sorcerers (does not seem like it’s going that well) and Gojo was the reason Geto wanted to make the world a better place for sorcerers.

Sun Jing / Qiu Tong from Tamen De Gushi (Their Story), a Chinese manhua. The story is just so cute, innocent, and straight forward. No screwing around, misunderstandings, annoying drama, etc.

Galo / Lio from Promare - this movie was so good! These two are really cute! I’m gonna say they’re semi-canon …

Hua Cheng / Xie Lian Heaven Official’s Blessing. Tragic characters when separated but together work towards their best future! Love it.

whiiiiiiiich is what makes stommy so fantastic, because tommy is really only in the picture before eddie. sure, they were all in school together at the same time, and surely have crossed each other's paths then, BUT in terms of like onscreen canon, by the time we are introduced to eddie, tommy is long gone.

tommy being The First for steve, whether he knows it or not, is literally my f a v o r i t e. like you see all these posts saying eddie was steve's bi awakening or that jonathan was - and those are great posts!! i love those posts!! those are both great concepts!! BUT i am firmly in the camp that there was someone BEFORE eddie, BEFORE jonathan, and that person was tommy.

and like the thing about tommy is there is SO much to work with!!! tommy (and carol too) is SUCH a bare bones character in the show that it is SO easy to take him and run with him. but at the same time, there is just enough little detail and nuance in his character's portrayal that there's SO much to build off of! and because of that you can literally take stommy in any direction you want to!! like, tommy has feelings for steve, but is so unwilling to acknowledge them that he keeps it to himself and suffers silently for the rest of his life only to finally face those feelings years and years later, when its too late, and have to live with the regret of never doing or saying anything about it back then? FANTASTIC! tommy has feelings for steve and makes a move and steve is receptive because he ALSO has a crush on tommy? EXCELLENT! tommy has feelings for steve and makes a move and steve ISNT receptive because he DOESNT share those feelings? DELICIOUS, WE LOVE UNREQUITED FEELINGS! and even MORE delicious - if years down the line steve thinks back on that moment and realizes, no, it wasn't that he didn't feel the same, it's just that he didn't know what those strange feelings were and interpreted them as nonreciprocation when in fact they were the exact opposite!! YES! tommy and steve fool around and never put a name to it because that makes it Real and Real is scary, so it's just a Thing they do that never gets acknowledged, despite the fact that it actually meant A Lot for both of them? GIVE ME A SPOON, I AM EATING IT UP!!! there are just so many flavors of stommy and all of them are SO good.

i'm glad you love the "we're just fooling around cause teen boys are horny and have needs - but with secret feelings" headcanon!! it's genuinely one of my favorites for them (and honestly i love reading that for steddie too! it's just a fun trope in general no matter who it is!!) i just love it when theyre totally OBLIVIOUS to the reality of the situation and to what it actually means to both of them - because it DOES mean something to both of them. they're both under the impression that it's totally casual for the other, but it is, in fact, not, and that kind of miscommunication is just deeeelicious. it's one of my favorite things to see in fics and hcs and stuff when steve has all these really gay experiences and grows up thinking that ALL guys have these experiences only to look back on it and realize oh. OH. that WAS really gay of me.

to your next point, yes!! exactly!! there are a lot of fics that have eddie be steve's first foray into any sort of homosexual activity or queer awakening, and i DO love those, i will ALSO eat those up with a spoon!! but you're so right, it's SO fun to see it where eddie ISN'T his first. like i fully believe that the seeds of steve's queer awakening were sown from VERY early on in his life (aka his relationship with tommy - whether the feelings get acknowledged or not). if steve doesn't realize it back then while it's happening, then he certainly does in the future when he finally looks back on it all and confronts that behavior/those feelings.

i also LOVE the hc that steve has had more queer experiences than eddie. like, i definitely think that eddie figured out that he liked boys way before steve ever did, BUT steve has still had more queer experiences because he never really saw them as that. he thought sometimes kissing your boy best friend was normal - you've got to get your practice somewhere right? or jerking off your boy best friend isn't weird, it's just a hand. it's just convenience. and eddie, of course, is a queer gay virign - the hill i will die on skjfls.

can i ask why you ship steve and chrissy? /gen just because there's nothing to suggest they'd ever be into each other?

that's all the fun of a crackship, friend! i've spent my entire life-in-fandom crackshipping either within a fandom or as crossovers, it's just fun to use your imaginations! none of it is real so why not play around with it?

that being said, since they are pretty much my fave crackship at this point, i will take any and all excuse to ramble about them hahahaha

so first, the similarities to their home life vs school career balance. both chrissy and steve face insane amounts of pressure from their parents setting impossible standards, and try to maintain a top social standing at school (whether this has a direct influence from their family, it's not canonically confirmed). they could have easily run in similar social circles even while both in school.

both also show that they find it easy to be their more authentic selves around people who don't fit those social circles (steve with dustin, chrissy with eddie), which if you take into consideration how chrissy doesn't tell jason about her interaction with eddie, it can be argued that chrissy could benefit from watching the example of steve's "loserification" (i.e. how he's found more genuine connections with the party + robin once he stopped trying to win societal approval) because she's not being honest/authentic with jason. (to me, her and jason's relationship appears way more performative, jason seems to care more about acting out to play the hero/vigilante rather than actually grieving the loss of his girlfriend. that's total interpretation, though)

i think they would just be a really lovey-dovey couple. like, when i first heard about them as a concept my first thought was literally "cheerful golden retriever meets clueless golden retriever". they both have a lot of love to give (i'll get into that) and they deserve to receive that same amount of affection and outward love.

more specifically, if you think back to steve's "six little nuggets" line. i've always said that the only acceptable reason he'd say that is because he went from being someone who constantly sought his peers' and parents' approval, to someone who was able to give and receive genuine love from the party. his six little nuggets. the only way that i'll interpret him saying that in canon is because with the kids growing up (and him having no idea where or in what condition mike, will and el are), he's scared he's going to lose that kind of love. based on how quickly we can see that chrissy falls back into not only remembering the fact that she and eddie were friends in middle school, she remembers specifics. she's got a big ol' heart, as does steve.

the MULTIPLE ways you can include eddie here. maybe he plays wingman. maybe he sets them up blindly. maybe he has no idea because they sneak around him. maybe he has no idea because "we're all just best friends hanging out! and sometimes those two make out! best friends!!! :D" every trope is good.

similarly, robin. especially as a comfort to chrissy that even though robin is a Band Kid and chrissy is a Cheerleader, that has no actual effect on who either of them are fundamentally as people, and i'm sure robin would love her for who she is right off the bat. and that'd help with the whole unlearning thing. i also really like the idea of lucas being glad that she's found someone better than jason once chrissy meets the party.

I am wondering about one detail related to Eddie in that story: Stevie notices several times that Eddie is really good at hitting all her buttons sexually, though he’s also admittedly inexperienced. Is it just that she’s not used to being with someone she has feelings for who actually cares about her pleasure and isn’t approaching it as a quod pro quo transaction? Or is Eddie, like, preternaturally talented and hasn’t had the chance to find out before Stevie makes him an offer?

thank you!! stevie’s been a lot of fun to write, specifically exploring those changes + what the world would look like around her if she was this specific character in the series. (also has my brain whirring about what that world would look like with transfemme stevie too but that’s a different ask)

i think it’s probably a little if column a, and a little of column b when you get down to it: for stevie, her desire has never been centralized in her encounters — never quite been the point for her previous partners — and with eddie? it’s all about her. there’s also the element that i think of eddie specifically as a planner and a details guy; he pays attention, he notices things, and he might be brand new at this but he’s gonna figure it out. plus, he’s probably a real hands on learner too lol.

(also in the eddie focused story that exists in this world — currently only in my head of course  — one of the things that would be explored is eddie first identifying as a gay man and then having a bi-awakening care of stevie harrington, and so therefore his first two person sexual experience being with her?? you bet he’s giving it one hundred and ten percent)

Rambling about Stranger Things, as always. If you're looking for coherence, this post is probably the wrong place for you lol:

I am not in any way against Will and Mike getting together, nor am I against Mike finding out that he's bi. I am, however, against El getting shafted. Just as much as I'm against Will getting his heart broken. Which sucks, cause the way they're setting this up seems like it's definitely gonna be one or the other here. (Seriously, when are writers going to figure out that polyamory is an option????)

Putting aside my feels about the inevitability of Will or El getting the boot, though, I'm mostly curious about all of this from a characterization standpoint. Because every time I think of these 3 and their potential romantic relationships, I think of one thing:

You don't do that as a 13-year-old boy when you aren't soul-deep in love with someone. You don't do that as any gender at any age unless you're in love. Likewise, while he was dedicated to finding Will in Season 1, Mike was equally dedicated to keeping Eleven safe. Contrast this with Lucas who thought Mike was getting distracted by Eleven and only cared about getting Will home. So I have a hard time accepting that Mike isn't in love with her. And I also look to the fact that both he and Nancy are historically awful at talking about their feelings, which makes more sense to me than the idea that he's stopped loving her by Season 4.

That being said, I acknowledge that these moments happened in Seasons 1 and 2 and I'm not really looking at moments that happened after that. I am entirely willing to admit thay I'm missing something because I'm stuck in the past. I also know that people and characters change. Especially in their teen years. Steve is top tier proof of this. But I guess the difference is that we got to see Steve go through his evolution. It feels like the only evolution we've seen with Mike is watching him become increasingly more annoyed and bored by everything. (Which isn't a complaint, by the way - unlike a lot of fans, I don't hate Mike or think that the writers have done him dirty. I think it's incredibly realistic for him to act this way at 14 or 15, especially after everything he's been through.)

I'm not trying to start a shipping argument (though I'm sure this will inevitably turn into one), I'm just curious about other people's perspectives here. I've seen all sorts of meta posts, but I'm just not seeing what either the Byler or Mileven people are seeing. All I'm seeing is a relatively normal teenage boy who is oblivious to the fact that his best friend is in love with him and is so emotionally stunted that he has difficulty telling his girlfriend that he's in love with her.

Why do you think that El should be left in the dust? Why do you think Will should get his heart broken? Why do you think they're both too good for Mike and should seek love elsewhere? Why do you think there's a way that all 3 of them can be happy, even though the writers are unlikely to give us the polyam solution that would easily wrap all of this up in a bow for us?

nope, sorry, but original bi mike anon is right. when they discuss suzie in s3, mike's 'disgusted' face is not repulsed at the concept of girls meaning he is gay lol. even if he was, that would be crazy rude and odd - if a friend was telling you that they have a partner of the gender you werent interested in, would you bother asking if they were cute if you didnt think they could be???

there is a chance this was all part of mike's heteronormative performance (and to me this is more likely, because i vibe with gay mike too), because why was he the one to ask that question, and in front of el too? you can see her grumpy face. he was performing, asserting masculinity and im-attracted-to-girls-ness in front of el and will and alllllll his friends.

but even so, that face is not disgust. it's disbelief. we see mike make that face a lot.

even if you were queer and dustin was talking about his new girlfriend, a gender you aren't attracted to, you're not going to be physically repulsed by the concept that your friend finds someone hot. thats almost as bad as homophobia but towards het relationships lol. mike is just like no way did dustin pull a hot girl and at science camp of all places. we know this cos it ties in with dustin's own arc that season, the conversations he has with steve about being true to yourself.

dont also forget that if mike is doing all this performing a role (which he is), then dustin's confidence in his taste in women and his genuine happiness in the relationship is what will make mike insecure, not the idea that girls are gross lol. many gay men find women beautiful, but in an artistic way rather than attracted way. i am straight but dont find women gross lol. and i dont think a tv show needs to stoop that low just to show mike is gay.

Oh little anon, when i tell you, you picked the WRONG bitch, I mean you picked the wrong bitch! firstly, cowardly to hide behind a grey face and not expose your blatant homophobia with your whole chest, but we move...

Let's take this in two parts, shall, we? Lets look at Stranger Thing's use of the word 'Freak' which from season one of the show has been used as a replacement for 'Fagg*t' the first instance being against Will Byers, when Joyce is reporting him missing and goes onto to explain to Hopper how Will's been bullied by his peers and his own father, where she explicitly uses the F slur to explain it, and from there it's been consistently used as a placeholder for it. Will is canonically confirmed gay by Noah, and to everyone else who knows how to read queer coding in his coming out scene to his brother in the pizza shop in volume 2. Eddie refers to himself on more than one occasion as a 'freak' - particularly in the boat house scene where he looks directly at Robin, a canonically confirmed lesbian and says to her, 'hunt the freak, right?' you can see the fucking pain in that boys face as he says it, and the gentle look Robin gives him in nodding, it's very clear to read that as them both having the understanding of what that meant, because while your little cishet brain may be incapable of critically reading subtext in media, us queers are very well versed at recognising our own, both on screen in queer coded storylines and off-screen in real life, and in this scene those two things meshed perfectly to demonstrate it.

Also, whether or not the nod to Queer Flagging was intentional or not, it was absolutely read that way by most of the Queer audience. Hanky Code was just one of the methods of Queer flagging that existed (and still exists today) which is predominantly used by Queer men (read: gay, bi, pan etc) to flag their sexual positions and interests at a time when it wasn't safe for them to be openly out without endangering their lives. Of course, bandana's were a big part of Metalhead culture too, but subcultures like metal, punk, etc, all these counter culture movements have a extensive and rich history of intersecting with the queer community. They are not mutually exclusive. Metal has massive ties to gender nonconformity and queerness, with bands like Judas Priest (who's lead singe Rob Halford was a gay man who came out in '98) who Eddie has a pin of on his battle vest, and while in '86 he wasn't out publicly, speculation about his sexuality had been around then too.

And all that is before we look at Joseph Quinns performance as Eddie and the little way in which he shamelessly flirted with both chrissy cunningham and steve harrington - which joe has confirmed at multiple convention panels that Eddie was flirting with Steve - he even, at the German con last weekend said that him and steve would have been a good fit, romantically.

BISEXUAL PEOPLE EXIST, PANSEXUAL PEOPLE EXIST. And if you can't see that not only are you homophobic, participating in bi/pan erasure but you're also just frankly fucking dumb.
