lolm (Spencer Reid x Reader)
a/n: I'm totaly obsessed with this song, so I just couldn't help myself and wrote this thingy.
Bear with me, it's written in like a flashback format, so the oneshot are small aspects of the relationship and there are time jumps
I forgot to mention, this is based on my queen's @taylorswift song loml
This is not proofread
y/n – your name
Warnings: Angst and some bad words. There's kind of an age difference and Spencer being a little mean at times (although I struggled making him the bad guy)
Word count: 3,034
My Masterlist
Part II
You first met Doctor Spencer Reid when he was teaching at the FBI Academy and you decided to audit his class, as you wanted him as your thesis advisor. Even if initially your goal was to get on his good side, you were quickly charmed by the young professor, and became a star student. Sure, you knew the rumors that surrounded the Doctor, of him being closed off to people, his loss of control and prone to violence, and overall how damaged he was from the string of tragedies that adorned his life, but even with all those warning signs, you were a little enamored of Doctor Reid. Of course, you did your best efforts to shove those feelings to the back of your mind as they seemed both unnecessary, and unrequired.
“Agent y/n, would you mind staying behind for a couple of minutes?” you heard the young Doctor called you, as you were packing your back, and your classmates left the room
“Sure Doctor Reid, how can I help you?” you said giving him a sweet smile, trying to hide the butterflies that fluttered inside your stomach
“I finally got around to read your thesis proposal, and let me tell you, it was quite impressive! Although I made some notes with comments and points I felt you could improve, as always, I’d gladly help you to find the adequate bibliography” the young Doctor said handing you the papers annotated
“Thank you so much Doctor Reid, I’m over the moon that you liked my proposal” you said feeling your stomach do a flip of excitement at the thought of the young Doctor being impressed by your work
“I’m really impressed with you and your efforts Agent y/n, and if you would like, I can put a good word for you, so you could join the BAU” Spencer said flashing a smile as he turned to his desk to gather his papers
“If you really mean it, it would be a dream come true, Doctor Reid” you said about passing out of excitement, as since you were in high school and the BAU came to your hometown to solve a case, you dreamed of being part of the team. Sure, back then you were seventeen and probably Doctor Reid didn’t even knew who you were, but from that day forward, you worked extremely hard to reach your goal.
A couple of weeks after your conversation with Doctor Reid, you received a letter from Chief Strauss herself, inviting you to join the BAU, and you couldn’t believe it. It was as if your dreams were becoming reality in front of your eyes.
When you arrived at the BAU the next morning, it felt like stepping into a tv show, surrounded by celebrities, of course, FBI celebrities. You knew none of this would be a reality if not for a certain Doctor who was now about to become your coworker; so naturally, you knew you had to do something nice to seem appreciative of his efforts.
“Good morning, Doctor Reid” you said approaching his desk with a basket of blueberry muffins in your hands, and a warm smile forming in your lips
“Good morning, Agent y/n” he said, lifting his gaze, meeting your eyes with a small, almost imperceptible, smile “How are you liking the BAU?” he added gesturing the surroundings of the bullpen
“I don’t want to seem unprofessional, but I feel like I’m walking on sunshine” you said with the biggest, dorkiest smile you could form as excitement took over your expression “I… I also brought you these… I hope you like them, it’s a simple token of appreciation” you said handing him the basket of muffins
“Thank you y/n, that is very sweet, also, you can just call me Spencer” he said taking the basket and softly brushing your hand with his, making your heart do a flip, “Come on, let me show you to your desk, and I'll introduce you to everybody” Spencer said, stepping from his chair and swiftly placing his hand on the lower part of your back. Your skin reacted to the physical contact, sending a small shiver through your spine, although you tried to act naturally. Sure, it was one thing having a crush on your Doctor Reid as your professor, but now, you were coworkers, and you knew you had to keep things professional, even if it meant shoving your feelings even deeper.
You’ve been at the BAU for almost three months, and while the work was amazing, your coworkers were great and overall your life felt like a dream. Although the love department was all over the place. Among the late nights working cases, and more than a couple of glances you were sure Spencer directed your way, your feelings were like a can of worms: ready to explode.
“Are you planning on staying late?” Spencer interrupted your train of thought, as you were reading through a case file
“I hope not, I just have to finish a couple of these reports and I’ll head home” you said signaling the pile of folders that rested on the edge of your desk
“Let me take half of it” he said reaching to pick some of the folders from your desk
“No no, it’s okay, it won’t take me long” you said embarrassed, realizing the two of you were the last ones to be at the bullpen
“I don’t mind helping you, besides, I’ll get through them in a jiff, that way we can both go home at a decent hour” he insisted and you could swear your heart did a cartwheel inside your chest as he was walking to his desk with more than half of your pending work. The two of you worked silently, and you couldn’t help but look up to him every couple of minutes, just to take in how handsome he was under the fluorescent lightning at the office. Sure, there was an age difference of at least eight years between the two of you, and you were sure he saw you as a child, but sometimes it’s nice to get lost in the what if.
“Would you like to get anything to eat before heading home?” Spencer said leaving the reports and the case files he took from your desk as he was already done
“I don’t think there’s anything open, it’s past midnight” you said looking at your watch
“I know this little pizza place that’s open till 2am” he replied tidying up his desk and picking up his messenger bag
“Alright, but it’s pizza and then home, because I really don’t want to be sleep deprived tomorrow” you said finishing your last report and packing your stuff. The two of you walked a little closer than you’d usually did and laughed all the way down. It was at that moment that behind the myth of mighty Doctor Spencer Reid, laid a really sweet guy, sure, you know about some disciplinary issues, but nobody’s perfect, and judging him by his action when he was grieving was kind of sucky to say the least. Conversation was going great, when in the blink of an eye, you reached the parking lot
“Come on, let’s take my car and I’ll even sweeten the deal by picking you up at your place tomorrow morning with doughnuts for breakfast” Spencer said flashing a smile that made your heart excited and unable to say no
“Alright, but I'm expecting donuts tomorrow” you said, getting into Spencer’s car.
The drive was amazing, you bought pizza, drinks and moved the party into Spencer’s apartment, where you ended up spending the night at.

Your relationship with Spencer was quite complicated to explain. Sure, he was your professor, and your coworker, but you were also friends who occasionally had sex, discreetly, of course.
“I may be falling in love with you” Spencer whispered into your ear, making your heart flutter, as you rolled on the bed to face him
“Good, because I may be falling for you as well, Doctor Reid” you said, kissing him softly
“I want us to be exclusive, no more fooling around, and I want us to be a couple, an official couple” Spencer added, tracing small circles into your shoulder
“So you wanna go through the whole HR process?” you asked jokingly
“Yeah, I’d like that as longs as it’s with you” he said and you chuckled at the idea of your coworkers reacting to your relationship with Spencer
13 months ago
“Guess who” you said placing your hand over Spencer’s eyes
“Mmm maybe my lovely girlfriend?” he guessed smiling and you placed a soft kiss into his cheek
“I got something for you” you said taking from your purse a couple of tickets to a cinematography festival
“I… wow, I thought these tickets were long gone, I mean, they sold out in like an hour” he said surprised and touched by the gift
“I know, say I’m the best girlfriend ever” you said grinning from ear to ear, excited with Spencer’s reaction
“I’ll do you one better: you’re the love of my life and I’m going to marry you” he said, taking your waist and placing you into his lap, and you couldn’t help but laugh at his words
9 months ago
“You’re the love of my life” Spencer said out of the blue while the two of you were finishing up a puzzle
“Excuse me?” you said, doubting the words you ears caught
“I’m pretty sure you’re the love of my life y/n” Spencer repeated in a serious tone
“You know? I never really thought people had a love of their life; but, with you it’s different, sometimes I feel like we are two pieces in a puzzle that just fit together” you rambled a little nervous, avoiding eye contact and looking for an opening to place the piece you had in your hand
“Well, I believe you are the one for me, the love of my life” Spencer affirmed once more, making you turn to hold his gaze “And that’s why I want you to marry me” Spencer said pulling a gorgeous ring from behind your ear
“What? How? What?” you said chuckling and with your heart beating fastly on your chest “Of course, I mean, wow, of course I’d marry you Spencer” you said placing a kiss into your boyfriend’s, excuse me, your fiance’s lips “I can’t believe you asked me to marry you with a magic trick” you said laughing and continuing kissing Spencer
“I love you y/n, I love you with all my heart” Spencer muttered in between kisses, and you couldn’t believe it, you really felt like living in a dream, a dream you’d never wanted to wake up
“And now you’ll have to love me forever” you said putting on the ring Spencer gave you, and contemplating a life with him for the rest of your life, and honestly, it was looking pretty amazing
“Oh, I’m aware of that, I’ll never leave you, and I’ll never stop loving you” Spencer promised, peppering kissed all over your face and neck
7 months ago
“Imagine waking up to the sound of pur kids running around the apartment” Spencer whispered into your ear and placed a soft kiss in the top of your head
“That’s quite a thought” you reapplied, opening your eyes and rolling over your bed to be laying down facing your fiance
“It would be nice, imagine, having an adorable bundle of joy, our little bundle of joy” he added and you could almost picture it: the cute family, sunday bbqs, maybe even a dog to wrap up the perfect family image
“We are not even married yet, and you’re already thinking about kids” you said placing a soft kiss in Spencer’s lips
“Well, you got a point, but neither of us are religious, so I don’t think the order even matters” Spencer said making you chuckle “I love your laugh, sometimes I swear it’s my favorite sound in the world” Spencer added, placing soft kisses in your neck, making you laugh even more at the contact of his beard with your sensitive skin
“Good, because you’re gonna be stuck with me and my laugh for the rest of your life” you said softly scratching Spencer’s curls as he kept placing kisses all over your body
“I can’t wait for the rest of our lives to begin, I already told you, you’re the love of my life” Spencer said placing you under him and leaving a trail of kisses from your neck to your chest
3 months ago
“Just shut the hell up” Spencer said from the other side of the table
“I… I… “ you muttered, completely out of words
“Sometimes I swear I can’t stand you” he said placing his hands in the temple of his head
“I just didn’t want your phone to go to voicemail” you said feeling smaller by the second, and deeply regretting picking up Spencer’s phone when you saw the name Diana Reid lighting up the screen
“Why would you tell her about the engagement?” he asked rising his tone
“I thought she already knew” you whispered with your heart breaking, and standing up from the dining table
“I’m sorry y/n, I just… I get really sensitive about my mom” Spencer said as you were leaving, but you didn’t dare to look at him, and then you heard him say “You’re the love of my life, you know it”
“I don’t want to marry you anymore” Spencer muttered under his breath
“I don’t know what kid of game or prank you’re trying to pull right now, but this is not funny Spencer, it’s straight up mean” you said a with a serious tone
“I’m not joking y/n, I… I’ve been thinking about this, long and hard for quite a while now, and I don’t want to marry you anymore” Spencer repeated with somber eyes
“You’ve been thinking about this for a while?” you asked, unable to believe the words that were coming out of the love of your life’s mouth
“Yeah, I didn't want to tell you right away, until I was certain, so this is me, telling you” Spencer said with a tone that was so calm, it almost scared you
“Get out of my apartment” you said with a string of voice as tears filled up your eyes
“Come on y/n, we’re sharing a lease” Spencer said, offended that you even suggested that he had to leave
“Excuse me? You think you can come here, break my heart and just be my roommate? There’s no way in hell that’s happening” you said, getting angered by the second “Take your things and leave, now! I’m buying you out of the lease” you said, raising your voice, as you could feel both your heart and your world crumbling
“I can’t take all my things tonight!” Spencer started yelling as well, stating the obvious
“Well take whatever you can! But you’re not staying in this apartment a minute longer!” you said, leaving Spencer in the living room as you locked yourself up in the bathroom. You were a mess, but you were doing your best to contain the tears, so he didn’t hear you cry. You stayed there, sitting on the bathroom floor for who know how long, until you heard the entrance door shut down, and you knew it: he was finally gone
Today
You still walked around with a hole where your heart was supposed to be, or at least that's how you felt. The numb feeling had taken over your whole body, and like it or no, you spent the last five days rotting in bed, and crying over how abruptly things ended with Spencer. You felt the need to overanalyze every single interaction between the two of you to see where did things got so messed up, and the words I’ve been thinking about this, long and hard for quite a while now, and I don’t want to marry you anymore still lingered in your head, making it impossible to move on. It was like Spencer showed you special colors, and now you weren’t able to see them, somehow, the world seemed to lose its glow. All the happiness you once felt, now seemed really far away, trapped by a braid of lies and false interactions.
You had an unread email from the FBI’s department of Human Resources, and you knew exactly what it was: your transfer to the office in San Francisco. Sure, you did make a fuss about the apartment, making Spencer leave and everything, but there’s no proper way to react when your boyfriend is breaking off your engagement. You finally decided to open it, when you heard a knock on the door and you knew exactly who it was
“You can just open the damn door, you have a key” you told Spencer, opening the door and avoiding eye contact
“It seemed improper” he said stepping into the apartment that once upon a time was your home
“Whatever” you said, marching into the kitchen and pretending to look for something in the fridge
“I heard about your transfer” Spencer said, trying but failing to do small talk
“I bet you did” you said, this time looking for something in the pantry
“I am sorry, about all this, I wish I could take it back y/n” Spencer said, this time with a pleading voice
“What do you want me to say Spencer? You turned out to be the loss of my life” you added with venom in your voice
“I understand, goodbye, I hope you have a great time in San Francisco” were the last words Spencer muttered as he left the apartment.
You couldn’t stop thinking about the last words Spencer gifted you: I understand, goodbye, I hope you have a great time in San Francisco but you figured they were words worthy of the way your relationship crashed and burned. It was disheartening to think about all the promises, the plans for the future and the dreams you two shared, but deep down you knew it was time to move on, even if it shattered your heart
“What a bland goodbye” you muttered under your breath as you started packing for your new life

Writing updates:
1) The Ford Essay is now longer than The Player of Games, at least with the footnotes and annotated bibliography.
2) I’ve come up with a name for a trilogy of monographs of this sort, with pieces about Stan and Dipper to follow…but I still can’t think up an appropriate non-working title for the entity which currently just goes by “The Ford Essay.” This is starting to feel like something I should really sort out….
3) Another thing I really need to work on is the chapter lengths. At present, they go
Chapter 1: 5 pages
Chapter 2: 7 pages
Chapter 3: 26 pages
Chapter Four: 19 pages
Chapter 5: 7 pages.
Admittedly, chapter 5 is nowhere near done and I have some thoughts on expanding chapter 2, but…dang.
4) Today I did it: I wrote something in this thing that I might delete out of concern about it being too controversial, or at least too…English major-y. Or possibly psychology major-y. Either way, I’m almost proud, somehow.
5) To read more or not to read more, that is the question…I have about eight more books marked down to finish as potential sources, but I keep kinda wanting to go ahead and publish without completing two of them or even starting the other six. I keep telling myself that I will regret it if I indulge in half-measures here, but…the temptation is there.
6) If I do read those books, I’m going to have to push back the projected publication date of “by the end of September” to “by the end of October/hopefully no later than mid-November.” I have to get this thing posted by the end of December, though, just to avoid a whole year of nothing getting finished….

FFXIV Polyamory Week Day 1: Sleeping Position
Gralzaza: G'raha Tia/A'lathei Khuzim/I'zazanh Xhula
Ever since A'lathei returned to the Source, as this world- no, dimension- is apparently called, I'zazanh was reminded that her girlfriend was hopelessly bisexual. "Help save two worlds and all you get is an emotional meltdown about your perceived incompetence in the face of occupational tragedy."
"And a free boyfriend! That's also important."
G'raha Tia was known to most Sharlayan Seekers as unremarkable yet weird. There was no decent way to put it. Perhaps it was because he was not Sharlayan-born like members of the Y Tribe or a sect of the I Tribe. Perhaps it was that he had always been unlike other Tia, bookish and theatrical in a way most Tia were not.
He was also a man of low self-regard. When they first started sleeping together, G'raha relegated himself to the furthest corners of the bed, almost barricading himself with various books while A'lathei and I'zazanh slept in each other's arms. Despite every attempt by A'lathei to bring him closer, he refused. He once let slip to I'zazanh that despite feeling happy that A'lathei openly returns his affection, he felt like a ghost haunting her present life. I'zazanh then wrote him a five page essay on why he was wrong with an annotated bibliography and recommended mental health professionals to see if he ever set foot back in Sharlayan. I'zazanh didn't initially understand why her Sugarplum loved him so, but he was not without his positives. And any man who could endear A'lathei's mother to him in less than a year had to be doing something right.
As the weeks passed, and the Final Days encroached, I'zazanh found herself deprived of both Seekers as they struggled to find a way to save the world from its imminent demise. For her part, she did her best to not let fear or despair get to her but she was insanely curious as to what the "Radz-at-Han Incident" was. Once the Final Days were averted, I'zazanh became sandwiched between two very handsy and purring Miqo'te.
If you told I'zazanh Xhula that she would be the big spoon, holding two heroes of the realm under her arms a year ago, she would have laughed you out of the room.
Now? Now, she's just glad they're home now.

ENC 2135 Project 4 Reflection. 12/10/21.
This semester of ENC 2135 was a new and welcome writing experience for me. I have written essays, short stories, poems, and many other different assignments throughout my many years of being in school, but no other class has taught me about rhetorical analysis like this one. Much of how I was taught to structure essays involved the IEW (Institute for Excellence in Writing) method, which consisted simply of a premise and three supporting paragraphs. These were the bare bones of almost everything I wrote in middle and high school. While I was still able to take what I had previously learned and utilize it in this class, ENC 2135 taught me to analyze from a rhetorical standpoint what I was putting in my projects. No longer was I mindlessly churning out paper after paper in the same format - I had to consider whether what I was writing was truly what an new reader would voluntarily spend their time on. In particular, one of the free writes we composed in class during the semester was simply defining a number of rhetorical terms in our own words. I was surprised at how little I truly understood the tools that I had been using to write for so many years. In addition, this class changed my perspective on reading directions and making revisions for assignments because there were so many rhetorical devices that I needed to incorporate while writing. Previously, I would write for myself, what I wanted to hear, and what was inspiring to me. While I don’t believe this is a bad strategy (and that enjoying your work is an essential part of keeping interest while learning new concepts), I learned to be receptive to what an audience might want to read. In short, I learned the basics of writing with empathy. A good example of the learning curve I underwent would be Project 1. I included a substantial amount of history on a topic that I found endlessly fascinating, but because of my personal bias I included too much unnecessary information in my paper. This led to the final product being difficult to digest for readers not already familiar with my subject. Realizing this helped me to approach future writing, editing, and revising from an outside perspective. Another aspect of ENC 2135 that I greatly enjoyed were the in-class freewrites. The atmosphere of other students being absorbed in their work was wonderful, and I especially enjoyed the assignments that were poem-based. A free write that I particularly benefited from was learning to write an annotated bibliography. Creating projects with a ‘works cited’ page was not uncommon for me, but I had never put sources into my own words before. As with defining rhetorical devices, learning this helped me properly grasp what I was reading, who the intended audience was, and how to properly implement it into my own projects. Taking all of this into account, I believe the works I decided to showcase in my ePortfolio demonstrate these points well.

About me
Hooks For Romeo And Juliet Essays
Hooks For Romeo And Juliet Essays That will intrigue your audience and encourage them to keep on studying. This type of hooks works for essays about writers, literature phenomena, books, and so on. Start your essay with a quote from books you evaluate, and it will establish your authority as a author. My son has to write down a 500 word essay on violence and the Impact. And sure I've by no means in my life wrote an essay. Check your task fastidiously for any directions about what to include in your introduction or conclusion. The introductions for most papers could be successfully written in a single paragraph occupying half to a few-quarters of the first web page. Your introduction could also be longer than that, and it could take a couple of paragraph, but be sure you know why. Remember that the majority essay assignments don’t allow to put in writing from the primary individual. Be certain to verify the requirements before using “I” in your writing. You could start your introduction with an announcement a couple of generally accepted reality being false. It works as a result of it attracts the reader into becoming an interactive participant. Rhetorical questions are recognized as being useful, especially within the art of persuasive talking and writing. So I found this nearly as good info however I am getting into to Honors 9 English this following 12 months and I have sure necessities for this essay. I am not allowed to make use of a query or quote for my introduction. The measurement of your introduction should bear some relationship to the length and complexity of your paper. A twenty page paper may call for a two-page introduction, but a 5-web page paper won't. You may be the sort of writer who writes an introduction first so as to explore your individual pondering on the subject. If so, remember that you could be at a later stage need to compress your introduction. I think that possibly you would go extra in depth with the steps. I think that these had been some really good concepts and techniques. Well, you would possibly ask our writers to help you or continue studying this post to get more tips on writing hooks for your essay. This type of hooks can help you create a reader’s private curiosity in your essay and want to proceed studying it. It’s really important to grab consideration of the reader and it can be achieved only first few sentences. If first sentences didn’t curiosity the reader, he received’t learn the essay till the top. I disagree with the Grammar Soldier that one can't ask the reader a direct question in a hook. A rhetorical query is one way to get the reader’s consideration if it is posed properly. A guide review may begin with a summary of the guide and conclude with an total assessment of it. A coverage briefing normally includes an introduction however might conclude with a series of recommendations. Most of the recommendation in this handout pertains to argumentative or exploratory academic essays. Be aware, nevertheless, that totally different genres have their own particular expectations about beginnings and endings. Some academic genres may not even require an introduction or conclusion. An annotated bibliography, for instance, sometimes provides neither. In this publish, we’ll take a look at five of the various other ways you can open a weblog publish, article, interview, white paper – just about anything with words. This is by no means a comprehensive or definitive listing; there are almost as many ways to introduce your writing as there are ways to put in writing. There are, nonetheless, some general strategies that lend themselves well to marketing copy that can be extraordinarily efficient. I am, however, going to talk about introductions, and the way to write them properly.

Link
1. Write down the topic your think you want to research (trash, sustainability, relationships – be broad).
Trash crisis
2. Find a text about your topic and see what you can discover/see what kind of conversations are happening about your topic. Post the link to your article on your Tumblr account and then answer the following questions:
a. What is the title of the text you found and what genre is it/where was it published?
Waste Crisis: “Americans Create 3x More Waste Than Global Average”, published on a website (EcoWatch) that is mainly articles concerning the environment
b. What did you discover about your topic after both searching for the text and reading about the topic?
That the trash crisis is a lot more extreme and developed than I originally thought, which shows how ignored it is.
c. Based on what you know about selecting sources, do you think the source is credible? Why or why not? Consider the author or publishing organization for this text and provide as much information as you can.
I think it is. The organization focuses a lot on the well-being of the environment. Jordan Davidson wrote the article, and he focuses a lot on climate change and trash.
3. Write a one-paragraph summary for the article. Yes, you need to complete this task to complete the assignment, but you are writing for yourself. Summarize what is important about the text so that you can return to your blog post and scan through your summary to decide if you want to go back and consider this text more thoroughly. (Also, you may want to use this in your annotated bibliography.)
The United States is one of the largest producers of trash in the world. Our waste amount is three times the average of all other countries. We are 4 percent of the world population and make up 12 percent of global waste. China and India combined are almost 40 percent of the world's population and make only 27 percent of waste. The United States also does a horrible job of trying to reduce that waste and recycle it, just 35 percent is recycled.
4. Create a works-cited entry for the text and paste it here:
Davidson, Jordan. “Waste Crisis: Americans Create 3x More Waste Than Global Average.” EcoWatch, EcoWatch, 18 Dec. 2019, www.ecowatch.com/us-waste-2639072301.html.1
5. Rhetorical Situation
The article “Americans Create 3x More Waste than Global Average” written by Jordan Davidson was published to EcoWatch. EcoWatch writes that they are “a leading environmental news site engaging millions of concerned individuals every month. We are leading the charge in using online news in the U.S. to drive fundamental change to ensure the health and longevity of our planet.” The author of the article, Jordan Davidson, writes primarily on climate change. I think this is a good source for my topic because it gives good statistics on the trash crisis and how the United States relates to that.

ok i’ve made good progress so far tonight/today. it took me 5 hours (i didn’t realize it had been 5 hours. how did it take me 3 hours to go from class to dinner to the library to home?? how the fuck?) to actually get started on the work so that sucks. BUT okay. so i have an annotated bibliography due at 9:30am which i barely had started before today.
I have completed searching the databases and found a ton of articles and saved them all on my computer. then i went through and read all the abstracts and wrote down some info about the ones i liked most, which left me with 15 articles, and i only need to do 10 for this assignment. i took a shower in the middle of searching for articles, so that i stopped feeling disgusting and the next adhd med could kick in and i would stay productive. i’ve narrowed down the articles i’m looking at to 12 now, and i wrote in my list a tag for the topic/concept each is addressing.
now i need to decide whether to go to campus to print them so i can highlight them on a hard copy and just have them for future reference (probably smart). or to just try reading from the screen and writing the 1 paragraph summary of each article like that. i also need to properly cite each one. maybe i can just do the citations while i decide?
it’s almost 4am so i don’t have much time left to read and do all this. i have to actually skim like a proper adult and i just cant decide whether i should go to campus to print and highlight or whether to work off the laptop and either write directly into Word or with a pen in my notebook and then transfer into Word.

The Cheever Files The Cheever Files Adventures of a Senior Thesis. Secondary blog of @midlife-stoodent.
D-1
Had to jump the count a few days because my Senior thesis is due TODAY. I had the due date in my planner as Sunday.
I am nearly finished with it. I turned in my thesis and subclaims into my prof via email, then when I got started, I used the same and wrote out my own words beneath my subclaims (I changed their type to BOLD to keep them separate). It worked! I am able to maintain an outline! I tend to scatter ideas…
I am not asking for an extension. I have asked for them all term and I simply need to get this done. I am 10 pages in, I have three sublaims left to do, and it’s not due until 11:59PM tonight.
THIS WILL HAPPEN.
I work best when dealing with absolute fear. Don’t follow my example. #thecheeverfiles#studyblr#studyspo#spring2016#ELNM#seniorthesis 5 notes

The struggle is very real. Still receiving instruction from my prof on my thesis.
At least my tense is correct.
BTW, I work better under pressure. Spending an entire term on a paper has yet to work for me.

D-7. Senior Thesis is due this week. Thankfully I am off of work, so that’s one less thing to worry about.
My digital project is completed (first picture) and that has been uploaded. I am still (yes, still) working on my thesis and subclaims. I emailed a correction back to my prof this afternoon, once I hone my thesis she will get to my subclaims.
Tomorrow I have to drop off my paperwork for my Service Learning, and take the TB test. I don’t know if all of this is going to get done before the end of the term, but that professor has given us an option if we weren’t able to solidify our service learning before the term ended.
I think 60 coffee pods should last me until the end of the week? Last term I went through 80 in a week and a half, and this term is way harder. I may need more… #thecheeverfiles#studyblr#studyspo#spring2016#ELNM#Seniorthesis#starbucks 3 notes
D-15. Rough Draft final draft, if that makes sense. I am truly blessed to have an amazing advisor/professor who gave us an extension (read: mercy) to turn it in for our rough draft workshop. I have until 6AM tomorrow morning to get this uploaded. **weeps with gratefulness**
Did I ever mention the size of my Senior Thesis class? There’s myself, and two other ladies. One of the many benefits of attending a small, private university.
I admit, I did the usual “check-out” in the middle of the term, where I was watching You Tube videos instead of writing. Then today, when the module for Week 8 comes out, we get the admonishment to not check out.
I am reeling myself back in.

Rough draft time. Have my most excellent feedback from my professor to help, as well as my own lightbulb moment. All I need now is the time to get it written. She did extend the due date for us, which I absolutely love because our drafts go into a workshop for final editing.
I miscalculated my vacation time from work, it’s next week, and I should have asked for this week, or even the rest of the month off.
Oh well. It will get done.

D-25. 25 days left to go.
Along with my essay, I also have to complete a digital assignment as part of my grade to add to my portfolio. Ovid’s Metamorphoses arrived via Amazon Student Prime today. Yes, Ovid + Cheever=Digital Project. It’s going to be awesome.
Still trying to raise my thesis from the bowels of hell. I was going to discuss the agency of the various rooms used in “A Country Husband” but I realized I needed to narrow that focus, so I am doing the agency of living rooms in the text. Of course, it throws my rough draft right out the window…

My First Draft is turned in, a minute past my self-imposed deadline of 5AM. I am so thankful my boss let me leave work two hours early so I could go home, nap, and finish this madness. I am not good at first drafts…a final copy I can do, but first drafts? My mind is still a jumble of thoughts and quotes.
After I uploaded my draft, I found an article on John Cheever that said he isn’t taught in schools anymore, if he ever really was. I find that to be a big old shame because the man is brilliant. Needless to say, even though I had already turned in my draft, I am now determined to make my paper a testament to his literary greatness. The man should be taught in schools, students are really missing out.
I am going to sleep the sleep of a student who has been burning the candle at both ends, what with full-time work and three classes to deal with. #thecheeverfiles#studyblr#studyspo#spring2016#ELNM#seniorthesis 1 note
Literary TheoryLiterary Theory Senior ThesisLiterary TheorySenior Thesis 4/22/16: Over the course of my academic career (so far, it’s only been what, two years?) I have learned working with a printout of a text is much easier for annotating than with a book. I have absolutely no shame in destroying a book in the name of essay writing, but there is less guilt with using a printout. This is my copy of “A Country Husband”, the first and second pages. Yeah, I use Midori stickers to mark important transitions within the text.
I have also learned to SAVE. MY. NOTES from previous classes. Last term, I took Literary Theory, and I need to apply a theoretical lens to my thesis. It is times like these I am glad I am so anal about my notes, as my notebook from Lit Theory is divided by the different theories.
The rough draft is due next week, already I have the very familiar pangs of self-doubt. Maybe I am placing too much pressure on myself, but this paper is a reflection of me and my scholarship. In no way do I want to come off as pedestrian, but that is my largest fear moving forward. #thecheeverfiles#studyblr#studyspo#spring2016#ELNM#seniorthesis 2 notes
Senior Thesis, Week 4: Way back when I took Literary Analysis (from the same professor) I kept all of the writing “hacks” she gave us. I printed them all up and tucked them away into a file folder. Turns out she’s using them for this class as well. Don’t know if the drawing belongs to her, but it still makes me laugh. Funny, two years ago when I took Literary Analysis I was very self-conscious of my essay-writing. Now it doesn’t phase me at all.
I am reading Cheever’s “Letters”…the man is hilarious, dark and so right-on with his discriptions of humanity. There’s an entire section entitled “The Suburbs”, from when he moved his family out of the city to upstate NY. The passage I highlighted tickles me, but I have to wonder: how often do we look at the belongings of others to remind us of who we are and where we came from?
My schedule for the upcoming week. My days off are Thursday and Friday, so I begin the fresh week there. Today (Monday) I register for Summer. I have to be at work by 230PM and other than continuing my Cheever reading I have my two other classes.
WRITE EVERY DAY.
Our rough draft is due next week, so this is our instruction. #thecheeverfiles#studyblr#studyspp#spring2016#ELNM#seniorthesis 7 notes
Got my Prospectus/Annotated Bibliography done, several hours before I was scheduled to turn it in, so that’s over.
This week we will be working on our Digital Project/Digital Presence, so we get a break from writing. Doesn’t mean the fun stops, I still have two other classes to maintain. Above is my weekly calendar, I use it as well as my Ardium Academic planner. My “weekend” is on Thursday/Friday, which is why the dates are wonky.
As for Digital Presence, I really am not worried about it. I cleaned up my social media when I was accepted to uni because I knew there would be a time where I had to do the exact same thing, so I just wiped a whole bunch of accounts. #thecheeverfiles#studyblr#studysop#spring2016#ELNM#Seniorthesis 3 notes
Prospectus and Annotated Bibliography Work:
This is the current time. Not too bad, as I don’t get home from work until after 11PM, but my eyes are getting tired. I’m indulging in a large mug of black tea, having consumed enough coffee over the course of the day to sink a ship.
I have spent this past week reading and researching. I carry a book or an article with me at all times, because you never know when you are going to have a moment to catch up on some reading. I had a few minutes while at the gas station the other day, so I read a few paragraphs.
You do what you have to do to get it done. :)
My beat up Writer’s Reference book, a university requirement.
No, I don’t have to work tomorrow (sarcasm).
I have my annotations completed, but I need to edit them to make sure all of the commas are in the right place. I am almost finished with the prospectus part.
I did, however, make sure Word was functional on my iPad and the entire project was accessible. WIN. Now I can finish this up at work tomorrow.
It’s due at 11:59 Monday night. #thecheeverfiles#studyblr#studyspo#spring2016#ELNM#seniorthesis 21 notes
Day 2: Well, technically I am still running on the original post, but in reality we have passed midnight. Welcome to 2:15AM.
Week 2 is the Prospectus and Annotated Bibliography portion of Senior Thesis. I took notes of the instructions and WON on three academic sources. I need 5 total, including the original text. I could hug my WR 323 instructor right now, because I have become a master of Google Scholar and our library’s online search engine.
I leave this post with a picture of my stapler. This little honey has the capacity of stapling 40 pages at once, and for someone who simply cannot read and retain electronically, this has been a great investment. Oh, and all of the printer ink and paper I stocked up on last term. #thecheeverfiles#studyblr#studyspo#LIT498#spring2016#ELNM#seniorthesis
Day 1: Amazon Student Prime and Sunday delivery for the win. My books came today! I never had a book for “A Country Husband”, all I ever had was a .pdf. I will say, annotating on a copy is a lot easier than in a book. So, I printed out another.
The term just began a week ago, and for that first week we had to turn in an annotated page from two papers we have written during our academic career here at Marylhurst. “Desireè’s Baby” by Chopin was my other choice, but I was sold on Cheever from the beginning. #thecheeverfiles#studyblr#studyspo#spring2016#LIT498#seniorthesis#ELNM 2 notes A Digital Accounting of my Adventures with my Senior Thesis. @midlife-stoodent here. I am an English Literature and New Media major, and welcome to my Senior Thesis studyblr. Check out my main blog for more studyblr goodness.
I decided to chronicle my path of the Senior Thesis to create a digital footprint of the process. Obviously, my Thesis is on John Cheever, his short story “The Country Husband” to be exact. I chose Cheever because his stories about the middle class intrigue me.
So! Lets get this started! I will be following the usual #studyblr format. #thecheeverfiles#studyblr#studyspo#spring2016#LIT498#seniorthesis#ELNM 1 note
