Week 1
Hello, my name is Michael Macias. I am a freshman majoring in physical education. Cutting straight through the point, one thing about me is that I have so Manny interest and hobbies. But to keep it short and simple, my two hobbies I do on a day to day basis is basketball and workout. Working out is something I have done ever since I was a little kid, and that wont change, ever. My other hobby which is basketball, is something I picked up around 2 years ago during high school. I am a competitive person and compete with almost everything I do, that's just how I am. headed back to the English side of things, is what is met favorite type of writing? well, to be honest, I don't like to write. Although I will say, writing on social media about sports is one of my favorite things to do while I am just laying down in bed. SO basically, talking smack on social media about sports is my favorite writing. Im not not a big writer, so answering the question of "what is the type of writing I don't like" is fairly easy to answer, and the answer to that question is....ESSAYS. I do not like essays, I personally over complicate them and always think I have to sound like a genius even though I do not have to, I know it's weird. Now that you know the current me, such as hobbies, and my personal opinion on writing, let's talk about what my goals are here at ISU. Well, my first goal is to stay motivated, people in college always tend to get unmotivated in school due to social skills, whether it is going out to much, not going out at all and always doing homework that it gets to the point were you just can't take it anymore. So all in all, my goal is to remember why I am here, wake up every morning with a purpose, remind myself that college won't be easy. Thank you, and I hope everyone has a better understanding of who I am as a person.

introduction post:)
Hi everyone, my name is Symone Baptiste and I am a freshman here at Illinois State University. I'm currently undecided when it comes to my major, but my hope is to apply for the communication studies program next month. Some of my interests are journaling, reading, listening to worship music, and being out in nature. Some kinds of writing I enjoy doing is poetry. Whenever I have free time, that is something I usually like to do. I also love to free write and write whatever comes to mind. I enjoy all types of writing and I haven't found a writing tool that I do not enjoy. In this course, I hope to increase my writing in grammar, dialogue, and description.

graaaa being weird in public sorry (on my own blog) teehee
#vent#RAAAAAA does anybodybelse like . Hate a lot of mundane shit in fiction . like just characters being friends or like going to a cafe or like#idk like. going to clothing stores. because i literally cannot do any of that#not even disabled.i just dont have the social skills or confidence or energy every day to do anyrhing outside of my room besides going to#classes. anyway im think about this rlly hard because i read a really normal dbz fic and felt very Othered#LIKE in fiction you dont often see ppl doing everyday stuff. you only see major plot points or fightihg or training or romance or whatever.#its already Out There types of things that ppl dont really do unless they are a main protagonist#as soon as thta character becomes Yeah this is Jessica from my ENG101 class i suddenly feel totally wholly ostracized#imo one of the biggest important things about lit is reading experiences you cant relate to in order to learn and expand your horizons but#but fic isNot lit & i only see 'normal' portrayed in fic because its self indulgent for the author & therefore i see 'normal' as a fic#trope that solely exists to make me feel like a caged animal#i cant even relate to queer experiences because of how deeply closted i am and how ive never ever irl been in a community like that#Rrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa#its not like i even WANT to see fic that verbatim recounts my edgy loner isolated lifestyle. Just stop with the starbucks or quaint#breakfast scenes PLEASE#It hurtsowww Nobody tells you this but pain actually really hurts. and everytime you write 'normal' another bunny/kitty is turned intosyrup

profs will write in their essay instruction packet that you should avoid writing narrative story for your essay's introduction and then the example essay's whole first page is rambling prose about the fictional example student's childhood

you need to take eng101 and stem101 though. eng101 is a prerequisite for your physics class, but i dont remember where you placed for physics. you can probably push stem101 off to spring but you need to take mfgt103 before you take phys233

Adding my own previous tags for context. So, I made it to ENG101, and we're covering clichés in writing and how you should avoid them and definitely shouldn't use a bunch of them in one sentence. And I swear to God I hear the instructor say
Happy as a chick's dick out
and time stopped as I thought to myself "did I really just hear something wrong again already??" Luckily, he used the actual phrase again a minute later so at least I have an answer
Happier than you can shake a stick at
I'm done. I'm just...done for today
Dealing with auditory processing disorder
LAWFUL: take the parts you heard and turn it into a clarifying question, e. g. "you saw your cousin where?" or "she's writing a what?"
NEUTRAL: "what did you say?"
CHAOTIC: take a wild stab at what the person said, e. g. "you want to baptize a mackerel?"

Week 8- Ethical Communication
The quote I chose from the video is "We can all be vulnerable in the face of a story". The speaker ( Chimamanda) was very transparent and open with the audience during this ted talk. I liked how she reflected on a time when Chimamanda and her previous roommate talked about her background. Her roommate assumed she didn't know much about the American culture because she was identified as Nigerian. Her roommate had a lot of pity on Chimandna based on a story of a catastrophe she experienced. This single story caused chimanda's roommate to misrepresent Chimamanda as an individual. This story has taught me to be more open-minded about people of different races. It also shows how easy it is to misunderstand a person by a single story we heard. These single stories can create stereotypes, which then result in possibly hurting someone else's feelings.

eng101/discussion board week3
Discuss a time when a post or video on a social media site positively impacted you or someone you know? Who wrote the post (e.g., an individual or an organization)?
When have a post or video positively impact start with, I use social media a lot to help inspire me was a video I saw on Facebook. It was a story about a pregnant girl that got kicked out and looked bad at by everyone. Everyone assumed she was someone who sold her body for money. Which is not true, but she was a victim of rape by a very powerful man. Luckly, she ran to a very important attorney and helped her voice get heard. Found a way to file charges and that showed her how she overcame obstacles. She also shows her kid that she is not the victim and becomes an attorney herself to help victims that she has experience. The person who did the post is Dhar Mann. I love his videos so inspiring in so many ways. Check his post constantly because I love his videos so much.
What do you think the author’s purpose was for sharing the post? Did the author reach their goal and target audience? How was the post organized? Did it include any images, charts, infographics, videos, links, or articles? I think the purpose of the post is to inform us that even though people must endure a lot in life we can overcome anything and be very successful in life. I feel this post is organized by targeting people that have gone through a lot with mental health and people that live in the low-income people that are not well off. Why are his videos so inspiring as well. In the post it includes a video also links that help with mental health as well and anyway they can help support you if you are in the same saturation. They also have articles about their feelings of the saturations as well.
What qualities do you think make a social media post effective?
I think the reason why social media post is effective You need to talk about things that speaks to people as I see the most effective is mental health, alcohol & drug experiences as well why I feel that promote bad behavioral. You need to be careful with social media well there is cyber bullying that is a real thing unfortunately. I feel if you can be effective in your post talk about things that speaks to people. Also speak about things that mean a lot to you. I feel when I talk about experiences my post is more effective because they can relate to the saturations. However, it makes it effective as well.

What-
I. What?
What????
Yes, it's past tense as an event that happened. However, they're ignoring a fact that they should have been taught in thay sub-par eng100/eng101 course they took, which is that the grammer rules they're clinging to so pedantically (at the expense of the greater issue at hand) don't apply to informal communication between individuals.
Not only that, but how the hell are they getting the idea that you in any way apply their cockeyed bullshit to others in such a way?
😐🤨
This is some grade A horseshit.
Tumblr media
u have GOT to be kidding me. i am honestly impressed that this person managed to take the correct point of “it’s more accurate to say you were assigned female at birth rather than are assigned female at birth” (which is something ppl have been talking abt on this website for a while now) and make it into…… this.

Journal #1 Prompt
Students: make sure you've read the assigned Forbes article on "Scannable Content" before creating your first post:
Acknowledge that writing is hard. Write it down. Then write about how you’re going to make writing happen. How will you find the balance in yourself to combine willpower with relaxation, stubbornness with joy? Write about how you’ve struck this balance in the past, with writing, a sport, a musical instrument—anything you’ve successfully learned to do.
