LIGHT SPOILER FOR "I STOLE THE FIRST RANKER'S SOUL"
So, I binge read "I Stole the First Ranker's Soul" till chapter 91, and when THIS conversation happened (not in chap 91 exactly):
“Run away. It really is okay to run.”
“What do you mean is okay? If I flee? You and Seungju will die. Everyone else will all die. That's why, how could I...”
“But you'll live, Noona. At least you'll definitely get to live.”
I, first, think about Kim Rok Soo and making a crossover just so he could meet Son Moa's family; second, I cry.

Occasionally I'll remember I can draw whatever I want - So I ended up sketching out a poorly drawn unicorn and my fursona being a freak on the same canvas, among many other drawings. Actually there's like seven other unrelated drawings on that same canvas let me just add the others:

I like using the same canvas for multiple small scale pieces. Saves me time and clutter space, and also it's funny to me.

The most telling factor is actually the popularity of the novel, more than the manwha. If you read the manwha and want more content, the first place people look is novel updates, so they can keep reading. Manwha readers often expand pre-existing fan bases, but the large number of comics the average reader keeps up with is large enough that anyone who wants to go to fandom will burn out quickly when they would have to build that fandom from scratch. The english translation for the novel of 'I Stole the Number One Ranker's Soul' was ordered taken down despite there being no official translation available. That kind of thing is gonna kill any seeds of fanbase pretty well. I'm sure there are exceptions, but wmmap, Debut or Die, ORV, Trash of the Count’s Family, and pretty much every other manwha with tags on Ao3 I can think of off the top of my head came from popular novels.
I agree, Son Moah deserves the world.
Just wanna ramble a bit since not many people talk to me anymore lol rip
wrote a fic for wolf lord's lady and am realizing it will probably never get any more foot traffic, the only some of which were from apparently three-ish faithful followers of mine specifically who got a work posted email lmao
not really complaining about it because at least i got two whole comments on it like damn <3 but it's the only fic for the fandom so i had to make up all the tags and that sucked
which made me realize that two fics i had conceptualized to a fair degree would, if i ever wrote them, also be the first of their kind.
which makes me a bit sad cuz if i did write THOSE there'd be a lot more heart in them, so if I went through the trouble of writing them and coming up with godforsaken tags for them and they also pretty much flopped ngl i'd be a little sad.
on a related note while i guess i understand Viridescent Crown not having any fics it's bizarre to me that Stepmother's Fairytale doesn't, considering it's fairly popular
(in retrospect i also wonder if Most Heretical Last Boss Queen (Pryde) will get any fic traffic now that it's getting an anime)
(shit just realized that a good chunk of almost every fic i conceptualized kinda-sorta recently has no fic-presendence. Another Typical Fantasy Romance? The One Within the Villainess? Marriage of Convenience? Bring the Love? Vengeful White Cat? Flirting with the Villain's Dad? Second Life of a Trash Princess? jesus fuck. The only fandoms I've "conceptualized fic for" with precendence is like Kodocha and WMMAP.
Yeesh. I guess at least I'll get interaction if I ever finish my mdzs, dcmk, or yona ones. or the solo levelling one. or the fma ones i guess.)

Rating (the translated, not actually OG) titles of manhwa/manga because I was bored
Monstrous Duke's Adopted Daughter/The Monster Duchess and Contract Princess - not egregiously long but boring when the story is actually interesting. 6/10. Rename it with something more snappish like the Adopted Shadow or whatever. idk. Have I mentioned I've been banned from naming things?
My In-Laws Are Obsessed with Me - 4/10. Also not horrible but it's clearly a clickbaity title and I roll my eyes. Better to rename it to like ..... something to do with blood maybe? Or if you want to keep it family-themed. Blood Ties? Also boring and you can tell I'm speaking from a western YA-genre reader
Beware the Villainess - 8/10. This needs no change
The Perks of Being an S-Class Heroine - .... it's exactly what the title says, ngl. 7/10. But it could be better and less of a summary. Don't know what, though
The Noble Girl Who Finds a Nerdy and Plain Guy Moe Thinks That the Arrogant Prince Is in the Way - 0/10. I just. Why? The official English title is something like The Lady Likes a Nerd over Princes, which I found weird but the summary was interesting (turns out it was a good manga. But the author just has zero respect for the agency of women. Like. Comically so that it's not even funny as it gets a tad bit narratively frustrating as it's used as a device to drag on the plot) Anyway. Just why?
An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride - 2/10. Not as unforgivable as the previous but horrible all the same. And while the concept was interesting and I gave it a try because it was a rec, it turned out to not be for me at all. The title is dramatic, I'll give you that. It reads like it's a self help book for demon kings who want to learn how to Love and that's basically the manga
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End/Frieren at the Funeral/Frieren the Slayer - 10/10. Look. Any of those titles are good. It doesn't pop out but neither does it force you to hide the title out of fear of being misunderstood
The Savior's Book Cafe Story in Another World - 5/10. Inoffensive but another summary title. You could have literally just called it the Savior's Otherworld Cafe instead. Or something
I Listened to My Husband and Brought in a Lover - 1/10. Encourages cheating with consent. Actually, the manhwa kinda did too (the husband cheated first and was like you should cheat too). At least people know what they're in for? Don't want to retitle it. It deserves it for starting with decent potential for that premise and kinda failing to deliver.
I Stole the Number One Ranker's Soul - 6/10. Again, it's pretty catchy and not terrible but I still don't like these summary titles. Manhwa is amazing, however.
Can't Stop Cursing You - 8/10. Dying laughing because it reads as someone going "man, I just... can't stop cursing you. Really can't help myself you know? Sorry not sorry" while zapping you repeatedly with curses. Still pretty stupid when the actual manga was REALLY shiny with all that horror and bloody gore and interesting plot
Gingerly in Love - 10/10. Trust me. Once I saw what it was about, I died laughing. Not the most memorable manhwa but the wordplay of the title....
The Tyrant Wants to Be Good - 6/10. Again. Inoffensive but there's something annoying to me personally. The manhwa is great, though. Love me a woman who makes her trauma everyone else's problem, regrets it, and then internalizes the guilt in her do-over at life so bad that she ends up getting aggressively adopted into a found family
I Got a New Skill Every Time I Was Exiled, and After 100 Different Worlds, I Was Unmatched - 0/10. Why are isekai titles actually the worst sometimes. Manga itself is meh, in my opinion. It has potential ruined by the usual commodification of women, so I dropped it despite my interest
Bonus:
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court - 3/10. Twain really was isekai titling when he probably didn't know that Japan was even a thing, huh. Not terrible, but it has that isekai style of summarizing the premise.
Bonus again:
The Fortunes and Misfortunes of the Famous Moll Flanders Who was born in Newgate, and during a life of continu’d Variety for Threescore Years, besides her Childhood, was Twelve Years a Whore, five times a Wife (whereof once to her brother) Twelve Years a Thief, Eight Years a Transported Felon in Virginia, at last grew Rich, liv’d Honest and died a Penitent - -10/10. It was an okay book but you shouldn't have had this power over your book titles, Daniel Defoe. Seriously. My edition just says "Moll Flanders". Never have I wanted to shame a dead author more. It's not even an isekai but it's worse than an isekai title. It's a whole anime opening credits.

All of Moa's closest friends and allies have lost their baseline care for human life. They're top ranking hunters who kill the people they think deserve it, because they were wronged or others were wronged. However, they still align themselves with Moa and do what she says despite her being brand new and unranked, because she hasn't lost her humanity. She helped them even when killing them would've benefited her. While she doesn't get rattled by enemies dying, she'd never kill anyone with her own two hands. Every life she fails to save burdens her and deepens her sense of responsibility.
She has a good head on her shoulders and a discerning heart that makes her worthy of being King of the human realm and the leader of the top rankers in the world.
Jihan couldn't do it because he died in a reckless, self-satisfying quest and the only reason he's still around is because Moa took his soul out of respect for his legacy. Eundam couldn't do it because he'd made enemies who kidnapped him and wanted him dead, and Moa broke him out. Seohu couldn't do it because he was already leader of the biggest guild and he had to focus on saving his younger, brasher sister, Seojin (also kidnapped, who Moa also saved despite Seojin trying to kill her early in the series).
Everyone around Moa is intrinsically selfish and they all gravitate towards her selflessness. It's not like Moa is perfect but she sees them all for who they are and casts no judgement, and when she does judge, it's reserved for those who take innocent lives.

[Recommended Read / Manhwa Review] Dungeon Break With A Female Lead: I Stole the Number One Ranker’s Soul
Tumblr media
Source: https://page.kakao.com/content/55684232
By: Peggy Sue Wood | @pswediting
I’ve been reading an absurdly high number of dungeon break comics lately. It seems to be a very popular genre in manhwas, and I’m loving pretty much all of it.
I love the art, which seems to follow a similar style to that Jang-Sung Rak, the artist of Solo Leveling, was popular for–one which puts a lot of emphasis on clean lines and plays with light and shadows (like lighting up the eyes of a character while creating a darkly framed face). Most of the ones I’m seeing are so focused on the action, that romance places second or last place–if it even appears.
Yet, I have not seen a lot of female protagonists in these types of work. Female characters definitely appear, and may even take on primary roles within the cast, but most of them are not the main character of the work.
In fact, thus far, I believe I have only seen one leading lady of a dungeon break story so far, that being Son Mo-Ah from I Stole the Number One Ranker’s Soul, also called Shaking Off The Top Spot In The Rankings To The Very Soul.
Son Mo-Ah, like so many other main characters in a dungeon break world, gets a skill that initially seems useless, only to find out that it may be one of the most OP skills around. I won’t give too many spoilers, but I think that this series is on-par in terms of art and story, with several of the more popular dungeon break series that are coming out right now. It’s not at the level of Solo Leveling or The S-Classes That I Raised yet, but it is consistently entertaining.
In terms of the story thus far, I Stole the Number One Ranker's Soul reminds me a lot of Necromancer Survival. Necromancer Survival has a male MC but is a BL story which is also kind of rare to see in the dungeon break genre right now. (I think both are excellent reads!)
If you are a fan of the genre, I definitely recommend checking it out! (Along with Necromancer Survival if you haven’t done so yet.)
Currently, I Stole the Number One Ranker’s Soul has not been officially translated into English, but you can read the novel here using Google Chrome and the Google Translate extension: https://page.kakao.com/content/55684232. Also, if you can read Korean, you can start reading the comic here: https://page.kakao.com/content/60182731. For those interested in Necromancer Survival, the series is currently licensed by TappyToon and can be viewed here: https://www.tappytoon.com/en/book/necromancer-survival
Happy Reading, Y’All!
