HELLO ANON??? I NEED YOU TO COME INTO MY INBOX AND TALK TO ME ABOUT THIS HOWARD FIC RIGHT NOW
Antis: "Conan can't date his cousin!"
Me, writing fic where Howard Stark from Iron Man: Armored Adventures meets Howard Stark from the MCU, goes 'I can fix him', tries to fix him and they end up having hot, loving, character-arc-completing sex in their office: "Correct, it's not nearly incestuous enough. Conan fans, go big or go home."
(This is partially a joke. His cousin appears to be hot, which is what's important, but if he has alternate universe selves and they're hot, then this is not a joke. Please consider charactercest as an option.)

Winter Makes Ice (Ep.3)

Words: 2799
Episode: Three
Warning: not much, flashbacks, talks of violence
Masterlist! Winter Makes Ice Episode: Two
Time: 1:00pm
Date: October 2nd 2024
It didn’t take long for everyone to board the helicopter and for it to take off, no one was lounging around this morning so they assembled quickly. Bucky sat by himself on the heli, the file was still open in his hands with the page turned to Dr. Wright. Bucky looked over the information that was given; he double and triple checked. There was a car waiting for them when they were going to arrive, Bucky would get dropped off and then Steve, Nat, and Wanda would drive around Halifax but would keep watch for a distress signal. Bucky made it clear it would only be him talking to the doctor, he was practicing his script in his head.
“Five minutes ‘till landing,” the pilot spoke into his headset, the sound went to their ears sounding like a 1940s radio show.
“Copy,” everyone replied without unison.
The plane got lower and lower until it touched the ground; it was a private tarmac for primarily military forces and other important people; SHIELD was always allowed to use it. Everyone got off the plane after the propellers began to slow down, Bucky had jumped off once while they were still at top speed and got flung forward but the air. The all black car stood a ways in front of them, they all took their bags and headed over.
“What a ride…” Steve muttered as he ran his hand against the perfect hood, this car was brand new and probably had never been in the sun before. It wasn’t a low sport car but rather an everyday car that was bullet proof and decked out with an AI on the inside, no one would take a second glance at it but the four of them marveled at how this car could fit in amongst others. The black rims matched the black tires and the black paint, this was Bucky’s dream car.
They all got in and the ride began, Steve drove while Wanda sat in the back with Bucky, Nat was in the passenger seat playing her music. Every so often Wanda would look over to Bucky, he could see her out of the corner of his eye, she’d give a sympathetic glance and maybe open her mouth as if she was about to say something but chose against it. Bucky had Dr. Wright’s address on the file sheet; he was giving directions to Steve as they drove through the colourful houses.
They had never seen houses like this, around four to five houses lined up next to each other, each of them were painted a different colour but they looked the same. Flowers grew in little holders under the two window sills at the front of the house, tulips were the most popular, vines would grow on the side where the sun didn’t shine too much and pain would chip around the bottom of the houses. Some houses still had Halloween decorations up, red leaves scattered on the ground and blew everywhere. There was a brown hue to the world around them, pumpkins were scattered on some door steps while other people still had Christmas lights up from last year.
Bucky tapped Steve’s head rest and the car slowed to a stop, they looked out to their left to see a house that looked like it belonged to the community. It wasn’t modern and square with sleek grey tiles on the outside, it was old and run down. A ghost hung from the single garage light, one pumpkin was sitting on the doorstep. This house didn’t look like one of a nazi group member, nevermind just a person with their doctorate.
Tons of leaves crunched under Bucky’s combat boots, the road was littered with them, it made it seem like it was a red and yellow road. He looked both ways as he crossed even though no cars were on the road except for the military grade undercover car, Bucky looked over his shoulder to see Wanda waving. They were going to head to a farmers market in this town to pass the time, and Bucky would walk over there when he was done. He gave a thumbs up and the car drove away and down the street, he didn’t watch to see it disappear, Bucky only had one thing on his mind and it wasn’t some apple pies Wanda was looking for.
The driveway looked new as well as the cobblestone walkway, one car was in the driveway and it looked to match the house, no crazy sports car. There was a screen door before an actual green wooden door, Bucky pulled back the screen and didn’t bother with the doorbell, he banged on the door. When he pulled his fist away there was a flake of green paint on his middle finger’s knuckle, a quick swipe and it was gone. Bucky stood back because he saw that in the movies, his back turned to the door as he looked out to the town. It was a lovely day, most people were probably at this farmer’s market, Bucky had never been to one even though you had offered to take him.
His head whipped back at the door opening, the same man, but only older, opened the door. He looked tired and worn out, this was probably his last Halloween. The cane he was holding was shaking in his grip, the other hand gripped the side of the door extremely tight. You could see the white through the speckled skin.
“What can I help you with, son?” the old man spoke with a smile, he licked his gums. A Canadian accent seemed almost cartoon-ish.
Bucky froze as he looked at this man, the sight of him brought him back to his nightmares and everything he’d been through. The name ‘son’ rolled off this man’s tongue and down Bucky’s spine and sent a shiver running all through him, it was obvious this man didn’t know who Bucky was. Bucky almost felt bad that he was bothering him, it was obvious he wasn’t a walker and standing seemed to be his exercise for the day, but at the same time Bucky couldn’t help but think about all the ways he could rip this doctor apart.
“Son?” the name came again.
Bucky looked up with a shake of his head, “hello, are you Dr. Wright?” he asked quietly.
“Yes it is, what do you need?” he didn’t seem freaked out that Bucky knew his name, it was a small town.
“My name is James Buchanan Barnes,” Bucky started but the man didn’t seem to figure it out, “I am the Winter Soldier- used to be actually…” Bucky added.
“Are you here to kill me?” the man’s voice shook, “because if you really are him then you have every right to do so,” he stepped back and opened the door for Bucky to walk in.
“I’m here to talk, you’re not going to die.” Bucky walked in and kicked off his combat boots, he’d heard it’s a thing in Canada to take your shoes off in the house. He also heard there was bagged milk which didn’t make any sense to him, but he wasn’t about to argue.
“That’s always good to hear, eh?” the accent slipped out again, it was weird for Bucky to see this man who haunted him just laughing. “Would you like some hot chocolate?” Dr. Wright asked as he made his way into the kitchen.
His house was small, not many walls as one room just faded into another. Knick-knacks littered shelves and tables, everything brought a homey feel to it all, the house was very lived in. “No thanks,” Bucky waved up a hand to signal no.
The doctor came and sat across from him, Bucky was sitting on a chair while Dr. Wright took the sofa, they both were wrapped in plastic. It made a squeaky sound when either of them moved but it didn’t seem to bother the doctor at all, Bucky one final time before swearing he wasn’t going to move again and hear that annoying sound. Both of Bucky’s hands were clasped in front of him, he felt too large and bulky for this petite chair, his fingers fiddled with each other. He’d pick and poke at the massive gloves he wore, his long sleeve was covering everything he needed.
“So, Dr. Wright-”
“Jacob, son,” he corrected, “though I am a doctor,” Jacob hesitated, “I go by Jacob.”
“Is that your real first name?” Bucky asked, he was met with a smile and nod, “then call me Bucky, please.” Bucky smiled back, there was a growing tension between the both of them but they chose to ignore it.
“Nice to meet you, Bucky.” Jacob seemed to relax at the name, he was scared of Bucky and Bucky could tell. This man had seen Bucky train for years on end, and Jacob knew what the Winter Soldier was capable of. “What do you need to talk to me about?” his cane rested beside him, his hand found its way there and just held it.
“I need to talk to you about Hydra, any information you have on the Iceland base- or any base in Halifax, Iceland, Greenland, and there’s one more…” Bucky brought a gloved hand to his stubbled chin, the leather making a rough noise when it brushed against the facial hair. “Oh! It was Newfoundland, anything you knew about those four places.”
Jacob thought for a moment, he didn’t have stubble to rub. Though he was old it was obvious he still thought that it was the old days, hair slicked back and a very fresh shave, facial hair wasn’t allowed unless you had grown it out in private. Bucky had always remembered Howard Stark’s mustache; he couldn’t picture him without it.
“I mean, I was just a scientist, I ran labs and tested things on animals. I didn’t come up with the world ending plans, I was never told the reason for what I was doing, I was just told to do it.” Jacob sounded worried, “when I used to work for Hydra I was worried for my life everyday, they were so paranoid all the time that someone could be a rat. If you said ‘hail Hydra’ a little too quietly then you’d have a bullet between your eyes, I just kept my head down and did what I was told.” Jacob’s hand got increasingly tighter on the handle of his cane.
“Was there something new they were working on?” Bucky asked, and he pulled out a little flip book to keep track.
“I quit a total of ten years ago, when I was seventy-one, the only thing they were thinking of was keeping you in their grasp, there was no other plan.” Jacob shrugged, “Hydra couldn’t see a life source without you, they never intended on losing you the way they did.”
“So you have no idea what they could possibly be working on, at all?” the hope Bucky had was falling, this was the only lead they knew and if all he could say was there was never a plan B, you were screwed.
“I’m sorry Bucky, I really want to help, but I just don’t know.” Jacob stood and walked back to the kitchen. He filled a glass of water and grabbed three pills from a container before heading back over to his seat.
“Out of the four places I mentioned, Iceland, Greenland, Halifax, and Newfoundland,” Bucky paused and watched Jacob mutter them to himself and then take the pills, “which one is the strongest?”
Jacob swallowed his pills with water, “Iceland.” without any hesitation, no second guess, nothing giving away he was lying for didn’t know. “Iceland was hell for me, it has the best of the best for agents, scientists, and…” he glanced out the window, “cells and tourture.”
Bucky shot up right away, he headed to the door. Jacob followed him, glass still in his hand. When Bucky was about to leave Jacob placed a hand on his shoulder. When Bucky turned back around the hand traveled along the center of his chest, “I'm not wired, Jacob.” Bucky eased.
“Some things just come second nature, son.” Jacob kept his head down, “y’know, I never wanted to hurt you. I thought I was making my old man proud, but I never stopped to realize what I was doing was actually wrong.” Jacob looked up with glossy eyes, “I actually wanted to find you at some point because I know I was the one who woke you up last, I remember clearly the way you looked, right then, I knew I needed to leave that place.” Jacob shuffled over and stood completely square to Bucky, Bucky just looked down at Jacob with a face of horror. The man Bucky saw every night was crying and apologizing to him, he didn’t know anyone who worked with Hydra had a heart. “I’m sorry for everything I did to you,” Jacob reached in his back pocket, he had placed the glass of water on a side table. “Here, take some money-”
“No, none of that, Jacob, really,” Bucky held his hands out, “you’re forgiven, don’t worry about all that, I just need to find someone.” Bucky reached for the door.
“What do you mean?” Jacob fished in his wallet.
“Hydra stole my girlfriend, I think she's in Iceland.” Bucky’s eyebrows knitted together at Jacob who was given him a coin.
“I think you’re right,” Jacob dropped the coin in Bucky’s palm before closing the door, the screen door creaked as it shut quickly with the wind.

Steve, Nat, and Wanda were walking around on the closed road, stands of every fruit and pastry lined the streets. Wanda was on top of the moon, she had a tote bag with some apple turnovers in them, that was really all she wanted. Nat had actually bought something too, Steve was genuinely surprised when Nat bought some earrings from a vendor, they were very small and dainty moons that would go in her ear lobes. Steve didn’t buy anything but just liked walking around, there was a lot to see but in a good way, no screens or jumbotrons, just people being people.
As Bucky made eye contact with Steve, Steve’s phone rang. Nat and Wanda rushed up to Bucky and were asking how it went, but the unknown caller was what Steve was focusing on.
“Steve Rogers,” Steve lowered his voice.
“Captain Rogers,” an all too familiar voice hit his ear.
“King T’Challa?” Steve turned his back to the group.
“We have three Hydra agents in custody, they tried to take out my sister,” his accent flowed and bounced as he talked.
“Keep them in the cells, we’re on our way.”
“Will there be more of them?” T’Challa asked before he could hang up.
“I don’t know, but hold them and don’t kill them, they might be our only hope.” Steve said his goodbyes and hung up.
When he turned back to Bucky and the rest of them, they seemed scared, Bucky had overheard Steve’s call, super hearing, and was looking at him weird.
“What was that?” Bucky asked.
“King T’Challa, says there was an attempted hit on Shuri, doesn’t know where they came from but they want her.” Steve shoved his phone in his back pocket, “what did you find?”
Bucky just held up a silver coin, “we’re going to Iceland.”
“We need to go to Wakanda,” Steve stepped forward.
“Not all four of us,” Nat pulled everyone aside from the farmer’s market, “I’ll go with Steve to Wakadna, you go with Wanda to Iceland. We’ll be talking and before you ambush the Hydra base in Iceland we’ll confirm y/n is in there, deal?” She looked to the other three.
“Deal.”
“Deal.”
“Deal.”

The Sweetest Apparition - Part 1
Pairing: Peggy Carter x fem!Reader
Summary: Reader is a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and historian who specializes in the life and legacy of Captain Carter. After Nick Fury uses the Tesseract to bring Peggy back, the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. contacts the reader to help her navigate life in the XXI century.
Warnings and notes: This series takes place after the last scene of What If… episode one, including spoilers to that episode. This chapter is more of an introduction before Peggy shows up.
Word count: 847
Series Masterlist
They say you should never meet your heroes, but you would love to have the chance. It’s a shame that your hero was lost in some bizarre alien dimension since World War II. As a historian, your entire academic career was dedicated to studying the life of Captain Carter and of the people around her. Accessing all official and some unofficial sources, you knew almost everything there was to know about the Captain. Your interest in her life’s work and legacy had led you to work at S.H.I.E.L.D., the agency that Steve Rogers and Howard Stark founded in her homage, and you even got to interview Tony Stark a few of times.
Your job at S.H.I.E.L.D. wasn’t exactly action-packed, but it suited your tastes and abilities well. Your days were dedicated to historical research, sometimes working along with the scientists to find clues about how the super soldier program really came to be, or in the mission to better understand technologies of unknown origin. During that particular month, you had been tasked with revisiting the existing registers about the Tesseract. You didn’t have access to the artifact itself, of course, but that was not where your knowledge came in handy anyway. You just wished someone would tell you what this specific revising was for, so you could focus on the right information, but that was somehow classified, which probably meant someone in power wanted to play around with the shiny blue box for who knows what purposes, and they hoped you could find some relevant piece of information about how to use it.
All the pertinent files you had access to were already in your office. You spent the morning re-reading old journals and occasionally writing down your own observations. It was almost lunch time and you were ready for a break when you heard someone knocking on your door.
“It’s open. Please, come in.”
You expected it to be one of the other agents of the floor, probably calling you to go get lunch in the restaurant across the street. Instead, the door opened to reveal a less familiar face. You recognized the man as Agent Barton, though you had never met him before. He was one of the most known S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, often working with Director Fury himself. If Barton was at your office, something was probably wrong.
“Are you Agent L/N?” He sounded hesitant as he walked in, almost startled by something, and that was starting to freak you out.
“Yes, that’s me. How can I help you, Agent Barton? Is it about the Tesseract?”
“Something like that. Fury requested your assistance immediately.”
Oh, of course. The director of S.H.I.E.L.D. was calling you. No big deal. Just another Tuesday. You closed the journal you were working on, grabbed your bad and stood up. Barton was already walking out, so you locked your door and followed him.
“You are our Captain Carter specialist, right?” He asked, shaking his head as if he was still trying to process something.
“I believe so. What aspect of her history does the Director need to..?” You were not sure of what to ask. If this was related to the Tesseract, it should be more connected to Rogers or Stark (either of them) than to Captain Carter, but it would be happy to help with whatever you could.
“It’s more about her adaptation than her history, I guess.” Barton got to the elevator, with you following closely. You realized you were headed to the top floor, presumably to Fury’s office.
“Oh, her adaptation to the serum? I have some great articles on that on my laptop. Should I go back to my office to get it? It will only take a minute.” You should have brought it along anyway, but you were too surprised by Barton’s visit to remember that at first.
“No, there’s no need. You see, Director Fury was experimenting with the Tesseract, and we got more than we expected. He needs you to help Captain Carter with her adaptation to the XXI century. She’s in his office now.”
Maybe it was a good thing that you left your laptop behind, because you would have dropped it along with your bag. The elevator stopped moving and you bent down to get your bag just as the doors opened. At least, the movement bought you a few more seconds before you had to reply. You weren’t so sure you would be able to speak coherently.
“You mean the actual, real Captain Margaret Elizabeth Carter? Alive?” Yes, you sounded like a fool, but it was better if you got that out of the way before you sounded like a fool in front of Fury or, even worse, in front of real life Captain Carter.
“I’m still trying to figure that out myself, but yeah. The actual, real, alive one. Right behind that door.” Without giving you any time to prepare, Barton walked to that door, opening it like it was no big deal. You took a deep breath and followed his lead, entering Director Fury’s office for the first time.

~ He Promised Part 8 ~
AN: Part 8 was my favourite part to write - its just gonna get more fluffy from now on!
Parings: Bucky Barnes x f!reader
Characters: Sam Wilson, Dr. Raynor, John Walker & Lemer Hoskins. Steve Rogers, Dot and Howard Stark are mentioned.
Warnings: swearing (as per), talks of hospitals, crying, tiny bit of angst (if you squint), implied smut and lots of fluffy fluff!!! (Finally huh???)
(gif not mine)
Tumblr media
You were in the hospital, the guys wanted to stay with you but you insisted they’d leave and get on with the mission.
You had broken your wrist, no doubt. Luckily, you didn’t need an operation. Just had to wear a cast for six weeks.
“Yeah, looks like I won’t be able to help with the mission,” you sighed, you were speaking to Sam on the phone while you waited for a cab.
“Shit, sorry Y/N. I shouldn’t have called you,” Sam said on the other end of the phone.
“No. I’m sorry. I’m a liability,” you sighed.
“You’re not, pumpkin. Don’t say that,” Sam said gently, making you smile.
“What’s up, Sammy? You’re acting weird,” you said softly, noticing Sam’s way of speaking was a little off.
“Alright, but don’t freak out,” Sam said.
“Great I’m freaking out!” You said.
“Bucky’s been arrested,” Sam said slowly just as the cab pulled up.
“Wh…what why?” You breathed.
“Y/N. It’s okay. He missed a therapy appointment,” Sam said as you got in the cab.
“Sam. Tell me where you are. I’m coming,” you said firmly.
Sam sighed but also learnt not to argue with you, you always won arguments. Sam told you the address and you told the cab driver.
The cab drive wasn’t very long but the entire way you were stressing over Bucky and his mental well-being. You got out of the cab, thanked and paid the driver then ran into the police station.
“Hi … is James B. Barnes still here?” You asked the receptionist, suddenly feeling shakey and weak.
“Mr Barnes is still here but may I take your name please?” The receptionist asked.
“Yes, of course. My name is Y/N Y/L/N,” you said.
“Doll?” Bucky said, his voice caused you to whip your head around, giving you a slight headache as you did so.
You thanked the receptionist then went over to Bucky, Sam was with him and so was Bucky’s therapist.
“James Buchanan Barnes! You dumb dumb stupid idiot!” You snapped, hitting his chest with your free hand.
Bucky stared at you, so did Sam and Dr. Raynor.
“You silly … soldier. You promised. You PROMISED you wouldn’t miss a therapy session! Do you not care about your mental well-being at all?” You snapped, you were so angry with him.
“Doll -“ Bucky said gently.
“Don’t you “doll” me. Not until you -“ you said.
“Excuse me, miss, but shouting at James isn’t going to fix what happened,” Dr. Raynor said gently.
You turned your head to see a lady standing the other side of Bucky.
“Hi. Sorry, I don’t believe we’ve met. I’m Y/N Y/L/N,” you said, holding out your unbroken hand.
“Ah. The famous Miss Y/L/N,” Dr Raynor said gently shaking your hand, “I’m Dr. Raynor, James’ therapist. James has told me a lot about you, and you really are very pretty,” she added.
You smirked up at Bucky who had turned very very red.
“Well. I need to have a little session with these fellas,” Dr. Raynor said gently.
You three followed her.
“Oh, sorry Miss Y/L/N,” Dr. Raynor said gently, “just the gentlemen, please.” She added gently.
You nodded.
“Doll,” Bucky said as you turned around to make your leave.
“Yeah?” You said, turning to face him.
“Wait for me. I’ve got something planned,” Bucky said, giving you a gentle smile.
You nodded. You went outside to get away from the heat of the station. You were sat on a bench outside, randomly scrolling through Instagram.
“Hi, Miss Y/L/N,” John Walker’s voice came.
You looked up to see him standing with Battlestar. You gotta admit, you admired Walker a little for being respectful for your wishes, but not too much.
“Hi, Walker. Battlestar,” you said, looking at Walker’s friend.
You could tell by the look on his face that people never refer to him as Battlestar, he smiled gratefully at you.
“So huh … I’m …” Walker said, stroking the back of his neck awkwardly. “I’m sorry about the other day. I got worked up. It’s not an excuse and it doesn’t make what I did okay, I’m sorry. I hope … we can be partners … in the field, I mean,” he added slowly.
“Thank you for apologising, Walker. It takes a lot. But I’m sorry, I don’t want to be partners, not even in the field,” you said softly, sliding your phone back into your pocket.
“Oh come on, Y/N. You don’t have to do everything those two do. You and Steve made a fantastic team,” Walker said, you tensed at Steve’s name.
It was true. Back then, you and Steve were the ideal team. And if you put Natasha Romanoff in your team? Unstoppable. You did miss working with your OG team.
“I’d appreciate it if you stop bringing Steve up in every conversation we have. Do you have any idea how much it hurt when he left? Of course you don’t. The government didn’t tell the public what happened to him,” you said tearfully, avoiding both the men’s gazes. “In short, Steve ripped my heart out. It’s been horrible. I’ve spent months trying to get back to feeling like myself again, and I’m only just beginning to. There’s a promising new relationship blooming and I’d love to just forget about Steve. So please please please PLEASE stop bringing him up constantly. Okay? Thank you,” you added, standing up.
You didn’t let either of them say anything before you moved to a different bench far away from them.
You turned your back to them, hid your face in your hands and gently sobbed. You were sobbing because you were angry. People are only going to see you as the fiancé of Steven G. Rogers. That was it, and you hated that.
You were too busy crying to hear the argument Bucky and Sam were having with Walker and Lemer.
“If you’re not gonna help us then stay out of our way,” Walker said.
Bucky and Sam ignored Walker, Bucky scanned the Park for you. He spotted you, he saw your shoulders moving up and down and heard the gentle sounds of sobs coming from you. Sam looked sadly at you.
“I’ll go to her. We’ll meet you in the morning,” Bucky told Sam.
He nodded.
“Take care of her, okay?” Sam said gently, Bucky nodded and went over to you.
“Doll?” Bucky asked gently, pulling you out of your gentle sobs.
You turned around to be greeted with a gentle face. You wiped your eyes quickly.
“Hi. Buck. What did Dr. Raynor want?” You asked softly, your voice wobbling still.
“Oh. Nothing,” Bucky said, you could tell he was lying, he sucked at lying. “What happened, Y/N? Why were you crying?” He asked gently, wiping tears away from your cheek with his thumb.
“It’s nothing, honestly, bub. I’m just emotional. I think it’s the strong pain killers the doctors put me on,” you smiled.
“Was it Walker? Did he hurt you?” Bucky asked, looking over at Walker.
“No. No,” you said gently, reassuring him with your best smile.
“Alright then. So, Y/N. Since we’ve got a little bit of time before I go get …. Before the mission continues,” Bucky said, you didn’t fail to notice he ended his sentence differently to what he had in mind, you narrowed your eyes at him. “We have a little time to kill, so would you like to follow me and we can get started on our first date?” He added, offering you his arm.
“Well, that was very formal, Mr Barnes,” you chuckled, making him smile as you linked your uninjured arm with his. “I’d love to have a date with you, kind sir.” You added.
——
Bucky took you on a nice moonlit walk around a lovely park. You two chatted.
Even though you both have known each other for at least seven years, and you know everything about each other, it just felt nice to just talk, and for a while, forget everything that happened or is about to happen.
For the first time in a long time, you felt happy.
“Okay, to be fair, I didn’t know that was the plan. My friend just told me we were gonna go drinking, we had one too many shots and I accidentally drunkenly texted a guy who actually turned out to already have a girlfriend. She wasn’t impressed with my awfully embarrassing text, so she sent a rather strongly worded text back, practically claiming him as her own,” you said, going red at one of your embarrassing stories before you and Steve were an item.
“Wow, you’ve had some interesting moments,” Bucky chuckled.
“Go on then, Buck. What about you? I heard back in the day, women were practically lining the streets to go out with the very handsome and famous James Buchanan Barnes,” you said.
“Well. Yeah. When I was a teenager, I knew I was pretty attractive,” Bucky shrugged.
“Way to be subtle, Bucky,” you laughed.
Bucky laughed too, his laugh makes you smile and sends your heart beating a little faster.
“Come on seriously. Did you have anyone back then that you thought you wanted to spend the rest of your life with?” You asked.
Bucky didn’t know what to say.
“I promise I won’t be jealous,” you said softly, knowing what he was thinking.
“Alright. If you insist,” Bucky said. “There was this cute dame, Dot. I took her, Steve and her friend to Howard Stark’s expo before I went to war. Dot was cute, she was friendly. I guess I did think she might have been the one.” He said softly.
“Well. I’m sorry Miss Dot missed out. I’m sure you would have treated her like royalty,” you said gently as you came to a stop by the lake.
“I guess she did. But I like to think she sent me you. So I can treat you like royalty, Y/N,” Bucky said gently, tucking your hair behind your ears.
You smiled up at him. The only natural light was from the moon. The way the moon hit him made you swoon.
“Hold still,” you said gently, taking your phone out of your pocket.
“What’re you doing, doll?” Bucky asked, smiling slightly as you got your camera ready.
“You look beautiful in the moonlight. Besides, if I take a picture, it’ll last longer,” you said gently, snapping the picture.
Bucky smiled at you as you smiled at him, then slid your phone back into your pocket.
“I need more photos of you, Buck. I don’t have any,” you said gently as Bucky gently grabbed your waist and pulled you close.
“I promise that’ll change,” he said gently, looking into your eyes.
The Moment was perfect, Bucky was lit by beautiful moonlight, the stars were shining above you, then you both lent forward and your lips touched. You both kissed. It was loving and passionate.
“Fancy coming back to my place to take this kiss further?” Bucky asked gently as you pulled away, your foreheads touching.
“James Buchanan Barnes! Your 40’s self is showing you big flirt!” You laughed.
Bucky shrugged, grinning at you.
“I’d love to come back to your place,” you said gently.
“Right then,” Bucky said gently, picking you up bridal style.
You giggled as you kissed again.
“Buck, you’re not walking all the way back to your apartment with me in your arms,” you said gently, “I’ll fall asleep!”
“Alright. You can call us a cab, but doll …” Bucky said gently, looking down at you as you took your phone out again.
“Yeah?” You said looking up at him.
“I love you,” Bucky said gently.
“I love you too,” you said as you called the cab company.
You both admitted it, you were smitten for each other. You were finally free of worrying about Steve’s feelings.
Wherever Steve was, he was happy for you. He was happy for his best friend, he couldn’t have wanted more.

“She’s not the only one whose kept secrets, Steve,” Natasha said, once Y/N was clearly gone. “We all have.”
“This is different,” Steve argued, mad. “This has to do with half the universe turning into dust and the man who did it. She should have told us so that we could have—“
“Done what, Steve?!” Tony retorted. “Spent the past five years planning and waiting for something to happen?! That’s not a way to live! I know that because I’ve lived that! I’ve tried to do that!” Tony took a deep breath, trying to calm himself as he backed away from everyone. “I may be the only one who feels this way, but I wouldn’t change the last five years. Yes, I miss people terribly and feel the guilt of what happened constantly. But I finally have the family I’ve always longed for. I have a daughter who is my whole world, and a wife who fights for what she loves.”
“Her telling us everything wouldn’t have changed when Scott came back or when I put the pieces together about time travel,” Tony continued. “Keeping that a secret didn’t change anything.”
“Tony’s right,” Clint spoke up. “It wouldn’t have changed anything.”
Tony and Clint nodded at each other. Tony knew it had to be hard for Clint to admit that, especially since he had lost his whole family. Steve clenched his jaw, frustrated.
“Steve,” Natasha called calmly, “have you ever thought about how many times you get angry at Y/N for keeping things from you?”
“I don’t understand what that has to do with anything,” Steve said.
“You freak and turn around and blame everything on her. Maybe she doesn’t tell you things because she knows that you won’t react in the best way. And you doubt her, so much.”
“How is this now about me?”
“I’m sorry, isn’t everything?” Tony retorted. The two men glared at each other in silence for a moment, the tension getting thick. “I’m going to go check on my wife.”
~~~
“Hey Pepper,” Y/N greeted, video calling her friend.
“Hey Y/N,” Pepper replied.
“Is Morgan up?”
“I’m sorry, I put her to bed already.”
“That’s okay.”
“Is something wrong though? You seem a little down.”
“I just… can you poke me in there for a second? I just need to see her.”
“Of course.” Pepper began heading to Morgan’s room. “She really misses you guys.”
“We miss her too.”
Pepper quietly opened Morgan’s door and reached her hand in so that Y/N could see the little girl on the phone. Morgan was sound asleep, clinging onto the Iron Man stuffy that Tony had bought her. Y/N’s eyes slowly filled with tears as she longed to hold her child.
“Thank you, Pep,” Y/N said softly.
“Of course,” the woman replied.
“Tell her we’ll call her tomorrow. And that we love her.”
“Y/N, what’s up?”
“This is all just getting more real. And I don’t want something to happen with Morgan knowing her parents love her.”
“Nothing’s going to happen. You and Tony are going to be fine.”
Y/N gave her friend a tight lipped smile, clearly not believable. “Thanks for taking care of her for us, Pep. Good night.”
Y/N sighed after hanging up, leaning back against the headboard. She closed her eyes and sucked in her lips. She had never missed her abilities more in the last five years, then at this very moment. She wished she could simply portal herself home, to hold her child. But Y/N couldn’t, and she knew she needed to stay at the compound and finish out the mission. No matter the cost.
“Are you okay?” Tony’s voice was quiet as he leaned in the doorway, worried eyes raking over his wife.
“I’m fine,” she answered, not bothering to open her eyes.
Tony sighed before he walked over and sat himself on the bed. He made sure he wasn’t touching her, not wanting to press. “I let Steve have it after you left. It wasn’t right for him to do that. Red even had my back.” Y/N didn’t respond. “Honey… I’m sorry.” He set a comforting hand on her leg. “I know that I’ve pushed you in the past for not saying anything. But I’m beginning to see the weight that the Stones have placed on you. I’m so sorry.”
“He will never understand,” Y/N breathed out quietly. “He hasn’t been able to since he came out of the ice… I lived 5 years with believing he was dead. I changed in that time and he has never been able to accept that… but doesn’t make it hurt any less. He’s still my twin…” Y/N finally opened her eyes and met Tony’s. She reached out and took his hand from her leg. “Thank you,” she whispered. “For standing with me.”
“I made vows to do so. I never intend on breaking them.”
She pulled him closer to her. She wrapped herself around him, earning a light chuckle.
“Can we stay like this the rest of the night?” She whispered.
“Of course,” Tony answered, kissing her hairline. “We can stay like this as long as you like.”
~~~
In the morning, the couple ate breakfast in bed before venturing out to face the rest of the group. Everyone was seemingly trying to act normal, but Steve. Every time he glanced Y/N’s way, it was harsh. Cold and unforgiving. Tony kept himself at Y/N’s side as the group began going over the Tesseract.
“Our first major run in with the Tesseract, or Space Stone, was back in the 40’s,” Steve explained. He was standing in front of everyone, pictures, videos and information were playing on the screens behind him. “HYDRA’s then leader, Red Skull, was using it to create mass energy weapons. Y/N and I were on Red Skull’s plane when it took off to bomb major cities around the world.” Steve looked at Y/N. “Would you like to tell the rest of it?”
She pursed her lips, trying to keep her emotions in check. “Sure.” She stood up and went to the front of the room. “As Steve said, we were in the ship. I was trying to get to the controls and the Tesseract, when it could knocked loose. It portaled Red Skull away. I…” Y/N paused with a sigh. She hadn’t recounted this story since she woke up. “I grabbed the cube as it fell, burning my hand. Dropping it, it burned a hole in the floor causing both myself and the cube to fall. I grabbed onto it as a fell…” Y/N looked down at her scarred hand, rubbing it nervously. “Howard Stark later found it in his search for Steve and I.”
“After that, it was in SHIELD’s hands,” Y/N continued. “And, from what Carol has added to the record, a scientist who was trying to save the Skrull species. From their Fury began tests on it and began making weapons of his own. That’s how the Battle of New York started… Being control by the Mind Stone himself, Loki came and took the Tesseract. He used it to open a giant portal, letting the Chitauri army through.”
More video footage began being played of that day behind her. The all watched, with those who were there remembering the day like it was yesterday.
“How long did you fight these guys?” Rocket asked.
“About, uh, two or three hours,” Natasha responded. She looked at Tony who nodded along in agreement.
“The Chitauri are the suckiest army in the galaxy. Why didn’t you just blow up the mothership?”
“We didn’t know that was a thing,” Steve said.
“You didn’t know that was a thing?” Rocket laughed. Tony stood up from his seat, shaver in hand. (He was shaving as he was listening.) He went up behind Rocket and shaved some of his hair on top of his head. “Everyone knows— Hey!”
Tumblr media
“There we go,” Tony said. “All better.”
“Tony was the one to send the missile up through the portal, successfully destroying the mother ship,” Y/N explained. “I closed the portal.” She looked at Tony, who met her eyes. “Luckily, we all came out of it alive.”
“Not all of us,” Clint commented. “We lost a good one that day. Phil Coulson.”
“Yeah… about that… Fury actually brought him back to life.”
“What?!” Natasha, Clint, Thor, and Steve exclaimed. The four quickly noticed at Bruce and Tony weren’t phased.
“Did you two know about this?” Natasha asked.
“Yes,” Bruce answered, “but only because it was vital. We were helping Skye—“
“Daisy,” Tony and Y/N corrected together.
“—and Y/N with their new found powers. Phil was a big part in that.”
“Those missions… that base you would talk about… SHIELD suddenly resurfacing,” Steve mumbled, putting the pieces together. “You leaving to save your Team… You kept SHIELD and Coulson alive, right under our noses.”
“Again, I was only doing what was right,” Y/N defended herself. “We saved the world countless more times than anyone even realized, including the other heroes in this room…. Coulson’s team is the reason we found Loki’s scepter. And in Sokovia, the helicarrier Fury brought was from Coulson. He had found it and patched it back together.”
“Sif,” Thor whispered. “She was so very vague about the two times she was down here.”
“She was keeping the secret. If people knew that Coulson was alive, it would have changed the game.”
“How did he survive?” Natasha asked.
“It was called the TAHITI Program. Fury directed Coulson to head it. It was meant for a fall of an Avenger. To bring them back if anything were to happen in battle. After years of trials, it was disbanded. The side affects were awful… but then Coulson died. And Fury couldn’t accept that.”
“Who else knew?” Steve asked.
“Besides Fury, Tony, Bruce, Sif, and myself,  Maria Hill, our SHIELD teams, and many government officials worldwide. Including President Ellis.”
Steve scoffed. “All the secrets,” he muttered, shaking his head. “This is getting ridiculous.”
“Where is Phil now?” Natasha asked. “Did he survive?”
“He died right before the Blip,” Y/N answered. “Complications from the TAHITI Program and other things that had happened… Please don’t be angry. I understand that it seems like I’ve kept some big things from everyone. But you have to try and understand it from my point of view.”
Everyone was silent, not knowing what to say. Y/N stood in the front of the room, preparing for the attack on her. But it never came. Steve stormed out and the others from the original team followed, including Tony and Bruce. Y/N closed her eyes, trying to keep herself calm.
“I know that I’m new here and don’t know much,” Scott said, standing up to go to Y/N. “But I know that you have a good heart. And that you were only trying to protect everyone.”
She looked at him with a tight-lipped smile. “Thank you, Scott.”
~~~
“It’s just one thing after another with her!” Steve exclaimed. “Is everything a lie? It’s like I don’t even know who she is anymore!”
“Steve, I think we need to stay calm and look at this from her said,” Natasha said. “She has been trying to protect everyone, except herself. The whole time she was going from fight to fight without much of a break.”
“It’s true,” Tony agreed. “I personally witnessed the wear and tear it did to her.”
“When she got shot after SHIELD fell, was that because of Coulson?” Steve asked, marching up to Tony.
“It wasn’t because of Coulson. It was because someone on her team ended up being HYDRA.”
Steve ran a hand down her face. “I don’t know where the lies stop and the truth begins.”
“She never actually lied to you,” Natasha brought up. “She told you what she could and kept the rest to herself. To protect everyone.”
“She still should have told us about Coulson,” Clint spoke up. “He was important to all of us.”
“Coulson and Fury specifically instructed her that the team not know,” Tony explained. “She actually got in trouble for telling me and Bruce.”
“But again we had to know,” Bruce said. “Y/N and Skye—“
“Daisy.”
“—had suddenly gained powers. If anyone was going to be able to help them, it was going to be us.”
“I need some time to think,” Steve said, walking away.
“We really shouldn’t be focusing on this right now,” Bruce sighed, shaking his head. “We should be focusing on the Stones. What Y/N kept from us is not the priority.”
“As long as she tells us any other information that could be of use to us,” Natasha said.
“She will,” Tony promised.
“I can’t imagine she’s taking this well,” Clint mentioned.
“She’s not really showing very much, trying to keep it all in. But I don’t blame her. Steve’s been going after her since he got out of the ice.”
“It’s hurting both of them,” Natasha said. “It’s like they want it to be how is was before the ice. Yet, they both have changed.”
“I don’t think Steve’s willing to see it the most,” Bruce added. “It’s going to tear them apart when we need them to work together the most right now.”
“Together, they can be one of the best teams.”
Tony sighed. “Let’s finish getting the information on the Stones. Then we can worry about the rest of it.”
~~~
They all gathered back together to go over more about the Stones. They finished all the new on the Tesseract and Space Stone before moving to the Mind Stone. It was hard to talk about that one, since Vision was a big part of it.
“Where’s Vision now?” Scott asked.
“We brought him back to the Compound, but the Accords and his own will forced us to give his body to an organization called SWORD,” Natasha explained. “They were forced to dismantle him because of the Accords.”
“We were too late in getting him to Wakanda,” Bruce explained. “So there was no way to bring him back without the Stone.”
“Hopefully that the only permanent casualty we take from all this,” Tony commented, bringing Y/N closer to his side.
“That wasn’t the only life lost,” Nebula said. “My sister, Gamora, she died too.”
They took on the Soul Stone next. There was very little information on it besides what Y/N and Nebula knew.
“Thanos found the Soul Stone on Vormir,” Nebula explained.
Tumblr media
“What is Vormir?” Natasha asked, taking notes.
“A dominion of death, at the very center of Celestial existence. It’s where… Thanos murdered my sister.”
Tumblr media
Everyone sat there awkwardly, and saddened. Not knowing what to say or do.
“Not it,” Scott said, breaking the awkward silence.
“Y/N,” Steve called, in this stern Captain voice. “Do you know anything about the Soul Stone that could possibly help us?”
“I know that it is a very power Stone in its own right. With it I was able to conjure the spiritual representation of those who are dead.”
“What?” A few gasped. Tony reached over and grabbed her hand.
“I saw…” She paused, swallowing her emotions down. “I saw my unborn son, AJ, my parents, and Phil Coulson.”
“Our parents?” Steve questioned. Y/N responded with a simple nod. “How could you not tell me?”
“At the time we weren’t talking, and it never came up later.”
“I can’t—“
“Guys,” Natasha stood up in the middle, placing herself between the siblings. “Stop fighting. We have something bigger we need to focus on, and if you can’t see that you both can leave.”
“I’m not the one with the problem,” Steve growled.
Holding the tip of her tongue between her teeth, she silently watched Steve. She was trying to put her thoughts together when Tony decided to speak up.
“Seriously, Rogers, cut the bullshit,” Tony said. “I get you’re probably hurt that she never told you anything. But that doesn’t give you the right to make her your personal emotional punching bag. Crap happened and she didn’t tell you, but she’s telling you now.”
“You know…” Y/N began slowly. “I miss the days when it was you, Bucky, and I against the world. Just like you do. The days you trusted me and didn’t doubt me, no matter what… you blame this all on me, Steve? Fine! But communication is a two way street. Just remember that. I’m not the only one that’s kept secrets. Like the one about Howard and Bucky.” That left Steve silent. “I’ll be in the other room, trying to put a plan together if anyone needs me.” She left.
“Go work out some energy, Steve,” Natasha suggested. “We’ll take it from here.”
~~~
Tony found Y/N laying on a table with FRIDAY talking to her about the Time Stone.
“Mute,” Tony ordered, coming into the room.
“If you’re here to talk about Steve, I’m not listening,” Y/N responded, looking at the ceiling.
“I figured. That’s why I came to join you and help.” Tony leaned over Y/N and gently kissed her.
“Uh, guys,” Bruce broke in before the couple could get heated. They turned to see Bruce and Nat standing in the doorway. “We just came to see if you needed any help. Everyone else needed a break.”
“Help would be great,” Y/N responded.
Tony crawled up onto the table, sitting by Y/N, while Y/N sat up. Bruce and Nat came in further and the four of them began going through everything they knew about the Time Stone and trying to form the most logical plan to collect the Stones. After of few hours of nothing coming together, Tony and Y/N were back laying on the table. Bruce was laying on the floor with Natasha leaned up against him.
Tumblr media
“That Time Stone guy…” Natasha began again.
“Doctor Strange,” Bruce corrected.
“Yeah, what kind of doctor was he?”
“Ear-nose-throat meets rabbit from a hat,” Tony answered, spinning his glasses in one hand while rubbing his eyes.
“Something neuro,” Y/N clarified.
“Nice place in the village, though,” Bruce added.
“Yeah,” Tony agreed. “Sullivan Street.”
“Hmmm… Bleecker.”
“Wait, he lived in New York?” Natasha wondered.
“No. He lived in Toronto,” Tony scoffed. “Were you even paying attention?”
“Guys, if you pick the right year, there are three Stones in New York.”
Bruce sat up in surprise saying, “Shut the front door.”
Tumblr media
~~~
The team was quickly gathered and Y/N explained the best points for them to go.
“Okay, we will retrieve the Soul and Power Stones in space 2014; the Reality Stone on Asgard in 2013; and the Space, Mind, and Time Stones in New York City in 2012,” she told them, pulling the information up on the screens.
“Now all we need are to assign the teams,” Tony stated.
“I’ve sketched out a plan and would like to get everyone’s opinions.”
They all glanced Steve’s way, waiting for the Captain to say something. He simply glared, arms crossed over his chest.
“Shoot,” Clint encouraged, when Steve didn’t speak up.
“So, due to certain knowledge of events, I believe that we need to try and stick to our own timelines, even though it could be dangerous,” Y/N explained. “We know our own timelines best. Where to avoid, where the Stones would be found, all that jazz. With that in mind, I was thinking Thor would go to Asgard, Rocket and Nebula would go to space, and the rest of us would go to New York.”
“The teams need to be evened out,” Steve spoke up, not impressed.
“I was just getting to that. I was going to see if anyone was going to volunteer to retrieve any of the Stones. I believe we need at least two people on each mission. And remember, the space mission is actually two separate missions.”
“I’ll go with Thor,” Rocket offered. “I think I could probably help the best there.”
“Thank you Rocket.”
“I can go with Nebula,” Rhodey said. “I’m not familiar with any of the spots, so I might as well.” Y/N nodded in agreement, making a note of it.”
“I should stay in 2012,” Tony said. “Being back in the Tower, I might have to break into JARVIS.”
“Agreed,” Y/N.
“I’ll stay in 2012 as well,” Steve said. “I also think Scott could be a good asset with us as well.”
“Sounds great,” Scott nodded along.
“Bruce, I was thinking that you and I could go and speak to the Ancient One and get the Time Stone,” Y/N suggested. “I have a feeling it will take some convincing to take the Stone from her.”
“Okay,” Bruce agreed.
“That leaves Clint and Natasha. Since you guys are a good team, how do you feel about hitting up Vormir for the Soul Stone?”
The two looked at each other and nodded, before looking back at Y/N.
“We can do that,” Clint said.
“Awesome,” Y/N responded. “Now we just need specifics for each mission. Break off into teams and use the information to create a specific plan.”
Everyone split off and created plans for their team. Coming back together, each plan was explained.
“Alright,” Steve claimed the attention once the final plan was laid out, “we have a plan. Six Stones, three teams. One shot. Take the night to get things together and rest, we’ll meet up and head out in the morning.”

Heavy Angst (And Not-So-Heavy but Still Angsty) Stony Fanfics!
I’m absolutely love a good Tony whump and hurt story so prepare to see a lot of those here! Get your tissues ready!
Push by phoenixreal
Summary: Tony Stark was known for pissing people off, it was a given. Then, after the man everyone thought was nothing more than a selfish prick decided to nearly kill himself saving Manhattan from a nuclear bomb, even the most sure of Tony's bastard status had to rethink it. And then, his team who were sure they had him pegged, they were invited (ordered) to move into Stark Tower with him. To their surprise, they found he had furnished full floors for each of them, somehow knowing their tastes exactly, including a floor dedicated to the resident Asgardian who would only be there some of the time. Surprised, and please, they all wonder at the enigma that is their host. After a couple months, Pepper Potts stops coming around so much, and they realize that something has exchanged between them because they are rather professional to each other. Pepper still frets over Tony, but instead tells the others to keep an eye on him rather than doing it herself. They easily forget that Tony is, and always has been, simply a human civilian. Then things get strange when they find themselves locked down within Stark tower, and after a harrowing viewing of a mysterious video, they find their resident playboy is completely gone.
Note: Prepare to cry and be hurt! This fanfic dabbles with Tony’s insecurity, self-worth, and issues. Please heed the warnings!
The words you choose to say by masterlokisev159
Summary: After the SHRA, the events around Steve’s death and Tony discovering he deleted part of his brain, Tony finally decides he's done enough. With Osborn taken care of, Tony leaves the Avengers and decides to quit being Ironman effective immediately.
He tells himself it doesn't hurt when Steve agrees. Why should it? After everything he's done, the team's better off without him.
However before he can truly move on, there are things he needs to take care of, and it's not long before he realizes he's dangerously close to losing his company. He's desperate and willing to do anything to keep it together.
So when, after months of silence, Steve asks him to drop everything and come work for Shield, Tony finds he doesn't have a choice. He agrees, no matter how much he knows he shouldn't. His reputation isn't exactly the best after the SHRA and he's heard stories of what he'd done as Director. He's knows what he's done. He's knows he's responsible for what happened to Steve.
He just wishes someone had warned him first. He hadn't been prepared to deal with the consequences.
Note: A 1000/10 angst fanfic that made me weep at 3 am in the morning. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. READ IT AND PREPARE TO CRY BUCKETS
Protocol SOTERIA by GoldenFinches
Summary: Friday's primary objective at all times is to protect one Anthony Edward Stark. And she will fulfill that objective no matter what it takes. Even if it means including certain people she thought she would never have to deal with again.
(Basically the Rogue Avengers get some sense knocked into them with the help of Friday and handful of videos.)
Note: A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ANGSTY FANFIC. I CRIED SO MUCH READING THIS.
Straight to Voicemail by YouMakeMeDokiDoki
Summary: "I DID!" Tony screamed, cutting Steve off mid-sentence and whirling around to glare at him.
"I CALLED YOU! EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU!"
Or
The one where no one answered their phone and things got out of hand.
Note: this will absolutely break you heart.
Sunshine and Luck by ImportedfromMunich2
Summary: Months after Siberia, Steve and the rest of the defectors are pardoned and allowed back onto the Avengers, with the help of Tony Stark. Now that they're back - nothing is the same as before. Tony is even avoiding Steve at all costs.
Then one night - Tony barges into Steve's bedroom while he sleeps, and they have spontaneous, passionate sex.
Only, the Tony Stark he just fucked isn't from this universe.
Now, Steve has to find a way to explain to Tony that he had sex with his counterpart from another dimension.
Note: A good Steve whump fic!
When You Mess With Him... by REM_It_Up
Summary: During an event with the Avengers, Tony is kidnapped by an unknown group of men right in front of the team. The group who took Tony taunt the Avengers by leaving small clues to Tony's whereabouts. When the kidnappers finally get in contact with the team, they are forced to watch Tony get tortured on camera.
The Avengers desperately search for their missing friend before they never see him again.
The kidnappers are smart and fast, they have everything figured out in order to get away with their plan...They just forgot one thing--
Colonel James Rhodes
Note: Now this is really heavy! Brace yourselves for a kidnapped and tortured tony! Also, protective honey bear aka Rhodey bonus here!
To Need is Not To Want by Brixon
Summary: All his life Tony has been used as a means to someone's end. Always someone's tool in a game. Carelessly thrown aside, once they had no longer use of him. He keeps it bottled up because, because he's Tony Stark. But he's always had this desire that one day someone would come who would stay because they wanted and needed him. He thought he had that with the Avengers, but after everything with the Accords and everyone leaving after Civil War that hope of having something of his to stay was gone.
Despite being burned constantly, Tony still has this wanting. So when Ryder, an old college friend, comes back into his life and actually seems to want to stay because he wants AND needs Tony, Tony is beyond thrilled. Because Ryder is staying. It doesn't matter if the bruises stay too.
But what happens when the Avengers return and Tony finds himself wondering once again exactly what he wants and what he needs.
Note: I’m sure, from the summary, you can tell that it’s a heartbreak here.
Hiding Things Is All Too Easy - Until It Isn't by audhds
Summary: Tony hasn't been the same since Bucky arrived at Stark Tower. That much is obvious. But Steve is overjoyed to have his best friend back and is somewhat oblivious to how Tony is withdrawing away from him. Because surely Tony is just overworked as usual. He must be quiet and jumpy because he is sleep deprived. And of course he has a few cuts and bruises on the visible parts of his skin - he fights and works for the Avengers as a living. It's part of the job description. Until it isn't.
Will Steve discover the physical and mental trauma that Tony is going through before it is too late?
Note: This is even heavier! Please read the tags carefully! Also, this has some serious Bucky bashing! If you are a Bucky fan but still interested in this, please prepare yourself.
No Trait As Much As This by KandiSheek
Summary: Tony gets hit with truth serum. It's a terrible time for everyone.
Note: A bit lighter than the others but still angst nonetheless. The added truth serum element makes this even more interesting!
Good For You by @orbingarrow
Summary: Steve doesn't understand why Tony dates people who abuse him. Tony doesn't understand why Steve cares.
The rest is bad choices, good choices, rehab, milkshakes, paintball, YouTube videos, couples therapy and learning to put the past in the past. Or: How Tony finds his happy ending.
Note: Another Tony-in-abusive-relationships fanfic!!
hold the things you wanna say by SailorChibi
Summary: Tony is still a consultant, and between SI, the team and SHIELD he's overworked and exhausted. That's okay.
He and Steve have been having sex for weeks but that's all it is, just sex, and Tony wants more but he'll never get it and that's okay. Really.
What's not okay is the fact that Howard Stark has somehow appeared in the future and is the same as always.
This is definitely going to fuck up his schedule.
Note: Anyone up for some Howard-travels-to-the-future fanfic?
Childhood is the Kingdom Where Nobody Dies by MemoryDragon
Summary: Seven-year-old Tony Stark wakes up on a Hydra base, lost, afraid, and alone. He has to overcome his fears before it's too late for the Avengers and Captain America.
Note: De-aged Tony just screams heavy angst and hurt!
Advanced Protocol by masterlokisev159
Summary: The Incursions are coming. The Illuminati have surrendered and everyone has come together to take one last stand.
Everyone except Tony. And Steve is tired of waiting. He wants answers.
There's something the Illuminati aren't telling him.
Note: If you don’t know what the Avalon is in Marvel, I recommend you search it up, or you could read this fic. You will be heartbroken with what you find.
Flower Child by itsallAvengers
Summary: The point was this, though:
In a hundred million universes, in a hundred million different lives, there would never be a single one of them in which Tony Stark deserved anyone like Steve Rogers. Ever.
So this? Nonsensical.
Note: Another fanfic that highlights child abuse and Tony’s insecurities!
What Pays All Debts by KandiSheek
Summary: No one is supposed to survive the date written on their skin. And yet Tony's numbers keep piling up.
Note: Angst + Death dates? You could probably foretell how much of a gut-wrench journey this is.
Falling Into You by sabrecmc
Summary: Tony and Steve end up as fuck buddies after the events of The Winter Soldier until Steve calls it off. When Loki's spell wipes all of Steve's memories since the last time Loki was in town, Tony decides it will be so much easier to just not tell Steve they had something of a relationship. Spoiler: It isn't.
Or, how Steve fell in love with Tony and forgot about it, and how Tony fell in love with Steve and realized it.
Note: There are just something about amnesia fanfics that makes it so goddamn heartbreaking.
Art Freaks and Comic Geeks by Coil
Summary: Tony Stark had made himself a phenomenally renowned writer. The world had fallen in love with the heroes that appeared in his novels; captivated by his vivid words of life and colour.
His next ambition was to publish a comic book series starring the much-beloved heroes of his novels. There was just one problem. Brilliant as Tony may have been with his words, his skills in the field of drawing were less than great. It didn’t help that he barely knew what his characters ought to look like in the first place.
Enter: Mister Steve Rogers – an up-and-coming artist/illustrator with the potential to be brilliant.
Their paths happen to cross at Comic-Con.
Note: this is a much lighter angsty fanfic but is still angsty. It is a Modern AU mixed with Artist!Steve and Writer!Tony.
Unwritten Endings by XtaticPearl
Summary: Tony takes the bullet meant for Captain America at the end of their war and through his death, brings together the team again. Only, he isn't really dead and when he comes back, the equations between the team-mates begin to alter and reform, writing a new story altogether.
Note: Of course, you can’t have an angst fanfic rec without a fake death fanfic!
WIP
Need Is Just A Word by masterlokisev159
Summary: A month has gone by since the war and Tony has never felt more alone. of course, with the unrest within the government, the disappearance of the Avengers and the obvious lack of Steve Rogers, it was only a matter of time before the UN finally flipped out and decided to act on the last available Avenger. Too bad they didn't realise a promise had been made by Captain America to be there when Iron man needed him.
Note: a gut-wrenching Post CA:CW fanfic where tony is suffering the consequences of the civil war.
Take me out tonight by masterlokisev159
Summary: When Steve gets invited to a formal party with the government, Fury tells him he can bring a plus one of his choosing. While listening quietly in the corner, Tony heaves a sigh of relief because the team could really do with some positive publicity and any of the Avengers are a good choice for Steve. Tony just wants Steve to be happy after all, even if he knows Steve's gonna pick Natasha. He knows Steve doesn't like him and he's aware there's never going to be anything more between them. They're barely even friends really.
So of course he's absolutely shocked when a gold filigree letter rests in his palms two days later. He's the worst person for this.
Why on earth did Steve choose him?
Note: AHHHHHHHH, INSECURE TONY IS JUST A FAVORITE. Also, confident!Steve that knows who he wants is just a whole new mood!
The Soul Stone's Sacrifice by masterlokisev159
The soul stone demands a sacrifice that Tony and Steve are not prepared for, but in the end, one life is sacrificed for the many. Steve lets Tony go for the last time and mourns a future they never had.
That is until Tony comes back.
Note: A scenario where Tony and Steve where the ones to go to Vormir.

Stark Spangled Banner Masterlist // Main Masterlist
Tumblr media
November 2013
There’s a fine line  between success and failure. And that last mission had well and truly teetered its way along the edge. The team had been split up after a catastrophic coms failure leaving Katie and Evans badly compromised.  They had just about got the situation under control after some quick thinking from Katie and very sharp shooting from Evans, when Steve had broken every protocol in place and run head first into a gun fire to get them out, putting himself in danger.
And Katie was livid at him.
“We had it under control!” she said, her voice raised as she stormed through the corridor away from the hangar, people turning to look. They’d been arguing about it all the way home.
“Yeah, well, it didn’t look like it from where I was standing!”
“Damned it Steve!” She spun to face him. “You weren’t standing anywhere, you were running, head first into the crossfire without even thinking about what was going on!”
“The last thing I heard was that you were surrounded-”
“This is EXACTLY what I don’t want you to do!” Katie groaned as she ran her hands over her face “Run in there without a second thought for your own damned safety or anyone else’s.”
“What do you mean anyone else?” Steve’s nostrils flared.
“You left Rumlow and Rollins completely uncovered,” Katie shook her head, “to come and save me. I’m not a fucking princess that needs rescuing Steve!”
“Don’t talk to me like that!” Steve’s voice was loud, displaying the anger he was feeling inside at her attitude.
“I’ll talk to you how I want!” She snapped back. “You know everyone gossips enough about us as it is and we’re almost seven months down the fucking line…”
“You think I don’t know that?”
“…and yet you STILL give them fuel!” She threw her hands out to the side, bringing them back down to her combat outfit clad sides with a slap. “Oh look at Nova, needs her Super Soldier Boyfriend to bail her out!”
“For the last time…” Steve hissed between his teeth, but Katie completely ignored him.
“If you can’t remain objective when we work together then maybe we shouldn’t be on the same team.”
“Maybe we shouldn’t if that’s how you feel!” He practically snarled, as he took a deep breath, squaring his shoulders back as his hands dropped to his belt buckle, eyes blazing.
“Glad we understand one another.” Katie spat back, before turning on her heel and heading towards the armoury to change, ignoring his shouts.
****
After debrief, for the first time in ages Steve left work alone. He was in a foul mood, and practically wrenched his apartment door off its hinges. In part he was pissed at Katie’s attitude, but in others his anger was directed at himself because deep down he knew she was right. He’d utterly lost it when he’d heard she was in trouble and hadn’t been able to do anything else but rush in there to help get them out. It was ridiculous, she was a trained agent with a shot on her like you wouldn’t believe, and the amount of times they’d been in bad situations before…but something today, something about the way she’d sounded on the radio had gotten to him and he’d abandoned all thoughts of professionalism and gone after his girl.
Sighing he threw his keys down on the kitchen side and grabbed a beer from the fridge before making his way into the living room, toeing off his boots as he want. He dropped onto the sofa and let out a loud moan of frustration, his head lolling back against the cushions. He hated that they’d rowed, this was the first big argument they’d actually had. Sure they quibbled about small things, the fact he made her sleep on the right hand side of the bed at his because it was furthest away from the door (just in case anyone got in), the way he was a bit of a neat freak and when she did stay for more than a night his apartment looked like a whirlwind had been through it (Ok, he didn’t actually mind that so much in truth), the way she tried on every fucking outfit she owned before they went out (maybe not every outfit, but close enough…), the way he often went for a run first thing in the morning and she’d get pissed he wasn’t there when she woke up because…well, because….but all that was stuff he adored. The normal part of being with someone you were comfortable sharing your life with.
As he took a pull from his bottle his eyes rolled to the right and fell on the large photo frame on his wall. It was one she had made him for his birthday.
“Open the big one first…” She instructed, nodding to the gifts that were piled on his sofa.
He did as he was told without saying a word, picking it up and resting it on his lap. It felt like a photo frame. As he peeled back the wrapping paper he realised that’s exactly what it was. It was large with glossy pine edges to match the furniture in his apartment and filled with photos of him all from his life before the ice and his eyes grew large as he took in the faces that looked back up at him. There was a photo of him and Bucky as kids, another as teenagers, then one of them in the army- the one of them laughing that Katie had said she loved. His eyes began to mist over as he saw a few shots of his parents at their wedding in Ireland, on the steps of their tenement building at Brooklyn, one of him and his mom when he was a small boy, then he spotted one of him and Howard along with various shots of him with the Howling Commandos and finally one of him, Colonel Chester Phillips and Peggy. And at the bottom of the frame, on a silver plaque was engraved a quote from the Wizard of Oz- ”A heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others.”
“I thought it was a shame to just keep them in a box.” Katie said gently as she sat next to him. “I wanted you to see them every day and remember you meant as much to them as they did or do to you.”
His fingers trailed over the various faces in the frame as the memories flooded his brain and he felt a lump in his throat at the wave of nostalgia crossing over him, and also at the utter thoughtfulness that had gone into her gift.
“I picked what I thought were the nicest ones.” She continued and he was aware her tone was growing nervous. “But we can swap them if…”
“Katie,” his voice was croaky as he cut her off and looked up at her. He was right, she was biting her lip, worried that she had upset him but nothing could be further from the truth. He moved to take her face in his hands and he kissed her, hard. He pulled away and looked at her speaking with utter honesty and sincerity “This is amazing, Darlin’. Thank you so much.”
Letting out a sigh, Steve’s eyes dropped from the wall to a smaller frame on the sideboard, this one contained a photo of him and Katie a ‘selfie’ of the two of them at the Top of the Rock, taken when they had gone back to New York to visit Tony one weekend in October. He loved it, the pair of them grinning like idiots, Katie wearing a baby blue sparkly beany and matching scarf, her smile genuine and him looking like a loves-struck idiot, pressing a kiss to her cheek as he glanced at the camera. She had the same photo in her living room too.
No, he couldn’t go to bed without sorting this out. Abandoning his half-drunk bottle of Sam Adams, he shoved his shoes back on, grabbed his keys and headed out.
****
Katie didn’t even stay for debrief, more to piss Steve off than anything. It was petty, yes but she was absolutely raging at him. Their relationship had been the talk of the Triskelion for months, and for that reason, they had behaved nothing but professionally on missions, wanting to prove to not only everyone they worked with, but to themselves, that they could remain objective in their work and that them being together wouldn’t compromise the way they behaved in the field.
And now he had fucked that.
She ignored his call which came just as she got home and throwing her phone onto the sofa she grabbed a glass of wine and ran herself a bath, turning her music up loud. She lay back under the bubbles, gently humming along to the music. Music was her thing to calm down to. She’d always played piano, right from the age of four when her mom had taught her, and she wasn’t bad at it either.
The mellow sounds of John Legend’s ‘Ordinary People’ faded into the opening notes of ‘Only One In Color’ by Trapt, and Katie paused, smiling. This song took her years back, to nights in London with colleagues in bars, and then a concert in Orlando in 2009…and Steve, it took her back to Steve and one rainy afternoon in August.
Katie shimmied around, folding laundry and dropping it into the basket as she sang, loudly. It had been ages since she’d done this, just danced around her apartment like an idiot. She turned round to grab the final load out of the machine and screamed as Steve was stood in the doorway, arms folded, leaning against the frame, that annoyingly cute smirk on his face.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you.”
“Jesus, how long have you been standing there?”
“Long enough” He grinned, crossing the room and wrapping his arms around her. He nuzzled into her neck and the two of them stood there, still, listening to the song that was playing.
“What is it?” Steve asked, pressing a kiss to the spot just below her ear..
“It’s called Only One In Color, by a band called Trapt.” Katie replied, turning her head to look at him. “It kinda reminds me of you actually.”
Steve smiled as they listened for another second before he moved back, his hand taking hers as he raised it above their heads and spun her round, playfully as she laughed, before he pulled him to her.
“Dance with me.”
“What, here? In my apartment?”
“Our own private ballroom.”
“You’ve never danced before.” Katie looked up at him. “You told me.”
“I know, Peggy was right.” He took a deep breath and looked at her. “I was waiting for the right partner. So, what do you say? Teach me?”
“You know I don’t really know a lot of steps.” Katie felt a smile spread across her face as Steve placed his free hand on the curve of her waist and she began to lead them around on the spot, her right hand held in his left, her left curling up and over his right shoulder. She watched Steve, who was concentrating so hard that his brows pinched together slightly, a look that was incredibly endearing.
“Stop over thinking it.” She said gently, looking up at him. “Listen to the music and just let go.”
So he did. He let go, listening to the melody and the words, smiling a little as the lyrics hit home, really making him think about the woman in his arms. She had brought colour to his life, given him a reason to keep going in this world he had found so strange and, well, daunting. As he found his rhythm, he felt the smile pull even broader on his lips. He raised his head from where his eyes had been focussing on his feet and his girl beamed up at him, squeezing the hand that she held.
“See, it’s not that hard is it?” She giggled. Steve returned the grin and shook his head.
“Surprisingly not.” He admitted. They continued to revolve around the space in the doorway between her kitchen and laundry room and Katie lay her head on his chest, Steve’s face automatically turning down slightly so his cheek was resting against her hair. After a minute or so Katie felt him move and instinctively she looked up and could do nothing but smile as they stopped dancing and their mouths drifted closer together. Her hand slipped up, fingers stretching themselves into the short hair at the nape of his neck as his lips met hers, his hand creeping across her back, large palm pressed firmly against her spine.
They never made it to the bedroom, they made it as far as the couch before they were both naked and going at it like a couple of horny fucking teenagers. And since then it had been ‘their’ song.
Katie sighed and drained her wine glass before she set about washing her hair and climbed out of the bath. She dressed in a pair of shorts and a hoodie before pulling her damp hair back into a French braid and had just settled on the sofa to watch TV when the buzzer to her apartment went. Picking up her phone to look at the security camera she took a deep breath and realised it was Steve.
“Sweetheart let me in. My key card is at home.”
She gave no response.
“I’m not going till you do, you know I could do this all day. Or all night.”
Still no response.
“I mean it’s a pretty interesting buzzer.”
With a groan, knowing full well the stubborn little shit in him would do just that, she pressed the button to let him in. Half a minute or so later the alert went again to signal he had requested access to her floor. Once more she tapped to accept and turned her attention back to the TV. She didn’t look up as the elevator door in the panel in her wall slid open, keeping her eyes focussed on the television as he strode into the room, heading straight for her once he’d hung his jacket up on the hooks to the right of the elevator.
“You were gonna watch this without me?” Hesaid gently, nodding to the episode of ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ that was playing as he dropped down next to her.
“Yes.” She replied simply, her arms folded.
Steve fought the smile spreading across his face at her childishness. He knew if she was mad the worst thing he could do was laugh at her and make her think he wasn’t taking her seriously. So, he took a deep breath and turned so he was facing her on the couch, arm resting along the back.”
“I know you’re pissed at me.” He sighed. “But come on Doll, I hate fighting with you.”
“Then stop being a dick.” She snarked back. Steve took another deep breath and looked at her as she continued. “You know what it’s like at work, everyone has constantly analysed everything I do because, hello, Howard Stark’s daughter, and today…”
She trailed off and Steve looked down at his hands and shook his head. “I know. I didn’t mean to make it look like you couldn’t handle yourself.”
They fell into silence and Katie exhaled sharply, deciding to meet him half way. She knew he hadn’t meant to make her feel like he had but, there was also a part of her that had been scared. Not just for her and Evans, but seeing Steve rush in, headfirst with no regard for his own safety just to get to her had really frightened her. Despite his enhanced nature, he wasn’t invincible.
“You need to trust me when I’m out there.” She spoke, her voice was softe.
“I do trust you, you know that.” He looked at her. “But I’m not gonna apologize for looking out for you, Sweetheart. It’s my job. Both as your Captain and your man.”
“I get that, I do.” Katie sighed. “But you put yourself in danger today, running straight into the middle of a fire fight…can you imagine what I’d have done if you’d have been…”
She trailed off, swallowing and took a deep breath before she continued and her words hit Steve. He hadn’t considered she had felt as worried about him as he had her.
“We have to remain objective, and if that means you can’t just abandon the team for me.”
“I know, you’re right, I’m sorry.” He said finally.
She looked at him and took a deep breath, the anger dissipating at his apology and moved to give him a hug, her arms round his shoulders as he wrapped his around her back and pulled her clumsily into his lap.
“I’m sorry for reacting the way I did.” She sighed as she lay her head against his.
“Forgiven?” He asked and she looked down at him, he was giving her his puppy dog eyes. She rolled her own, she couldn’t stay mad at him, especially when there was a small part of her that couldn’t help but adore the fact he cared so deeply for her that he’d rush in, head first with no regard for anything else.
“Captain Dumbass.” She grumbled, before giving him a soft kiss.
“Guess so.” He chuckled. And when she didn’t protest he gently tapped her thigh, and knowing what he wanted she shifted off his lap so he could lay down flat on the sofa, allowing her to drape herself over him like  blanket, head on his chest as his arms wrapped around her back, legs tangling together as they settled in to watch their programme.
*****
Katie hadn’t been in the office for five minutes the next morning when she got a message to say Fury wanted to see her. In the years she had known the director, she still found it hard to get a read on him and this time was no exception. She stepped into his office and he nodded to her, and without a word got straight to business, leading her over to the screen on the wall by the sofas.
“I was wondering what you made of this.” He said nodding to the large screen on the wall. The photo displayed was of a tree trunk, cut in half and running down the middle was a long, tube like shape, with some markings on it. The photo zoomed in and Katie frowned.
“These look like the markings on Thor’s hammer.” She looked at the Director.
“Funny you should say that.” Fury nodded. “Because the Spectrographic signatures match the readings from Thor’s hammer too.”
“So whatever was in that tree was Asgardian?”
Fury nodded. “It looks that way, Nova, yes.”
“Where was it found?”
“That’s a trunk from a Norwegian spruce in Trillmarka National Park, Norway.”
“Figures.” Katie bit her lip.
“How do you mean?” Fury looked at her.
“The legends of Thor, they all have origins in Norway. When I asked him about it, Thor explained that Asgardians visited Earth thousands of years ago.” She explained. “They roamed Norway, mingling with the old Norse people, but back then, because humans couldn’t understand the concept of people from another planet, these, well, these aliens were revered as Gods.”
Fury gave a noise of understanding.
“So who took it?” She asked. “Has Thor been back since the whole incident in Greenwich or…”
“I wish he had, then I wouldn’t really give a shit.” Fury sighed. “This thing has gone AWOL. According to my team on the ground, it was taken by a woman and a man, very much of Earth”
“Great.”  Katie rolled her eyes, before she continued, her tone laced with sarcasm. “Because every time something alien lands in human hands that ends well.”
Fury gave a snort and pressed a button on a remote and she turned her attention to the TV on the wall of the office. It was screening a news broadcast, footage of a riot. The runner on the bottom of the screen identified the location as Oslo.
“The rioting has left twenty injured and three in a critical condition. Reports indicate that the group of about a dozen was led by this man and woman.”
A picture of the culprits filled the screen. The man was tall, dark haired, dark eyed and had a short beard. The woman, in contrast was slight, blonde and with icy blue eyes.
“And although their motive was unclear, the message was spelled out on the streets of Oslo, for all to see”
“It looks like the item has given them powers beyond those of normal humans.” Fury spoke as the newscast panned over to a fire on the street, this time an aerial view. The fire spelt out the words “We are Gods”.
“So what do you need me to do?” Katie asked, looking at him.
“I’m gonna need you to work with one of my field teams.” Fury continued, looking at her. “My best field team, actually. I want you to help them track these guys down. You have a decent knowledge on Asgardian and Mythological history and the team could do with someone with a little background on the subject.”
“Sir, if these people are as powerful as this report is saying, shouldn’t we consider at least trying to contact Thor, possibly the rest of the Avengers?” Katie looked at him.
“No.” Fury’s response was instantaneous. “I don’t want the Avengers involving. It would attract too much attention.”
“With all due respect, they just set a street on fire. I dare say it’s already attracting a fair amount of attention so whats-“ She trailed off as Fury looked at her, an expression on his face that Katie knew extremely well having seen it several times before. The expression he wore when he was about to drop a bombshell. “Oh, what are you hiding Nick?” She frowned.
“I want you to understand that you’ve been kept in the dark about this so far for a reason. And I know you’re going to get emotional, but if you could refrain from throwing that coffee you’re holding, Nova, I’d appreciate it.”
“Dark about what?” She pressed, her tone irritated. She didn’t have time for this bullshit.
Agent Fury pressed a button on his phone on his desk. “Alright, you’re up.” And with that the TV snapped onto a different channel and she turned to see a familiar man sat in a chair on the screen.
Katie didn’t throw the coffee, instead it slipped from her hands as her mouth dropped open and the entire room swam in front of her eyes.
“Sorry, boss. The God rabbited”
“Just stay awake. EYES ON ME!”
“No. I’m clocked out here.”
“Not an option!”
The room came back into focus again and she looked from the screen to Fury, then back. “This…this is impossible.” She stammered.
“I’d have said the same thing myself not long ago.” Phil Coulson gave a shy little smile.
Katie found herself floundering for words before the anger at the lies and deceit bubbled up.
“No, you…you died! I was there, I saw it!”
“Excellent medics.” Fury concluded.
“They took you away, in a body bag!” Katie’s voice rose to a yell as she ran her hands over her face, unable to believe what she was seeing. She’d cried, mourned the loss of one of her friends, a man who had been her mentor. She looked at Coulson on the screen, and then away again, her eyes misting up slightly.
“No one knew I’d pulled through until after New York.“ Coulson spoke softly “I spent months recovering in Tahiti. It’s a magical place.”
“I want your word that you will not reveal Agent Coulson is alive to anyone.” Fury spoke and Katie turned to look at him, her face curling up in an angry sneer. “I debated long and hard about pulling you into this but we need you.”
Katie eyed the director, chin jutting upwards as she glared at him. “Don’t you ever get tired of the lies?”
“I have no option.” Fury’s face was stern. “I can’t risk the Avengers falling apart.”
“I’m not lying to them for you.” She shook her head “No way. A team is built on trust. Without that you have nohing.”
Fury looked at her for a moment, before he sighed. “That wasn’t a request, Agent Stark. If you tell anyone I’ll remove you from service.”
“So now you’re blackmailing me?”
“I’m merely pointing out your options.” Fury replied simply.
“You are unbelievable.” She shook her head. “Fuck you. Fuck this.”
She turned to walk out of the door before Coulson’s voice rang across the room.
“Katie, please. We wouldn’t be asking this of you if it wasn’t urgent, but we really do need your help
The use of her first name, not her code name, made Katie stop in her tracks. Taking a deep breath she spun back, fire in her eyes as she glared at Coulson’s image on the screen. “Why should I?”
“Because, ” Coulson continued, “you’re the only one I trust enough with this.”
Katie ran her hands over her face, torn between wanting to leave and her desire, sorry, duty to help. In the end her duty won out and she felt her shoulders slump as she looked back towards the two men, giving them both a curt nod.
“Fine, but that does not mean that I’m happy about this. Any of it.”
“You’ll rendezvous with the Bus in Oslow.” Fury instructed, ignoring her emotion completely. “There’s a Jet being prepped to take the new shift of mobile STRIKE team members out as we speak. You can go with them.”
“Whatever.” She shrugged. With a final roll of her eyes she made to leave the room before Fury called after her.
“Agent Stark.”
“What?” she demanded as she spun round, fixing her eyes on his.
“I’m sorry.” He sighed, shaking his head. “But I had to do it.”
She swallowed, before she turned and left, not trusting herself to respond.
*****
Steve was looking for Katie, he knew she’d been to see Fury and was eager to find out what it was about. After asking a few agents if they’d seen her he finally tracked her to one of the kitchens where she was sat, hugging a cup of coffee like her life depended on it, staring down at the table. He frowned, she looked absolutely beat.
“Sweetheart?” He asked tentatively as she looked up at him. His frown deepened when he saw her face. She looked distraught. “Honey, what is it?”
One look in his eyes and Katie knew she couldn’t lie to him, she didn’t want to lie to him. Fuck Fury, fuck all of this.
“Coulson…he…” She stammered, looking up at Steve, her eyes wet.
“What about him?” Steve frowned.
She took a deep breath, tears now rolling down her face. “He’s alive, Steve, he’s fucking alive.”
And then the dam broke and she began to sob. Steve instantly went into autopilot, pulling out a spare chair and moving it close to her so he could wrap his arms around her as she cried into his tevlar clad chest, his own mind whirling at the news.
Eventually she calmed down to tell him everything. And Steve listened, not saying a word, simply holding her hand, his thumb skating over her knuckles as she spoke. He did, however, make an angry noise that was half way between a snort and a growl when she told him Fury had threatened to sack her if she told anyone.
“I honestly thought I’d seen it all, that nothing life threw up would ever surprise me again.” She sighed looking at Steve as she finished explaining.
“Ten bucks says you’re wrong.” He smiled softly and she spluttered a watery laugh through her tears, remembering what she’d said to him the first time they had met. “There’s my girl.” Steve reached over to gently brush her cheek with his hand. “I like it better when you smile.”
“Sorry, but I’m so angry. Fury is lying, again! Has he learnt nothing from everything that’s happened over the past few years?”
Steve didn’t say anything, merely studied her face for a moment and then both of them turned their attention to the door when one of the Junior Agents appeared.
“Agent Stark, Director Fury asked me to tell you we’re wheels up in an hour.”
“Thanks.” She nodded, sniffing before she looked at Steve. “I don’t even have time to pack.”
“You got some stuff in your locker, right?”
She nodded. She always had a few days’ worth of clothes in her locker and toiletries to hand, just in case. She ran her hands over her face and stood up. “You know, I don’t even know who I’m meeting!” She shook her head. “Other than Fitz and Simmons, I’ve no idea who Coulson has on The Bus.”
“Whoever it is I’m sure you’ll be fine.” Steve assured her. “And I know it’s shitty but they asked for you for a reason.”
“Suppose I best make the most of it, seeing as it will be my last mission, you know, on account of me telling you.”
“It won’t come to that.” Steve shook his head “I’m not gonna tell anyone I know.”
“Fury always finds out.” Katie sighed. “Tony is right about him. His spies have spies.”
Thirty minutes later she was walking to the hangar, suited in her SHIELD cat suit, Steve carrying her holdall for her as they walked. The Captain didn’t like this, he hated that she was effectively being manipulated and he would have loved nothing more than to give Fury a piece of his mind but he couldn’t, because he wasn’t supposed to know. They reached the bottom of the jet and Katie turned to him as he handed her bag to one of the agents who nodded to them both.
“I’ll call you as soon as I can.” She promised as Steve looked down at her and nodded
“Make sure you do.” He raised an eyebrow. “Not sure how I’m gonna cope without my best girl.”
“Your best girl?” She teased. “How many others do you have?”
“One or two.” He shrugged. “But they’re in different states, so, they don’t count, right?”
She gave a laugh as she shook her head. “Jerk.”
Steve chuckled and tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear. “You know you’re the only one for me, Doll.” He dropped a soft kiss to her lips. “Just go do what you gotta do. I’ll be here when you get back.”
He kissed her again, this time a little longer, although both still well aware that they were in the middle of a very busy hangar, surrounded by a lot of people. Sighing, Katie pulled back and allowed herself to melt into his arms for a quick hug before she stepped back.
“I love you.” She said gently.
“You too. Be careful.” He looked at her, his features verging on stern with his warning.
“I’m always careful.” She grinned, walking backwards up the ramp, wanting to look at him for as long as possible.
“Well that’s just an out and out lie.” He raised an eyebrow, hands dropping to the buckle of his belt.
She grinned, blew him a kiss and then disappeared into the main part of the jet. Steve watched for a second as the ramp shut before he turned and left the hangar.
*****
The flight over to Oslow wasn’t too long. Katie used the time to do as much reading up on the item they were tracking as possible, going through all the files that Coulson had sent her. Eventually they docked with The Bus and her and the other agents made their way to the Air Lock. The doors shut and the capsule took them down a level before the frosted glass doors opened and there, stood in front of her, was Phil Coulson. The other agents pushed past, clearly fine at the sight of a dead-not-dead man in front of them.
There was a moment’s hesitation, where Coulson and Katie simply looked at each other, and then Katie’s anger boiled over and she stepped forwards, slapping him, hard across the face. The agents who were milling around all paused as Coulson’s head snapped to the side.
“Guess I deserved that…” He said, turning his head back to look at her as everyone hastily carried on with their jobs.
As Katie stared at her old mentor, her anger melted away and with a little sigh she threw her arms around him.  Coulson squeezed her back, before Katie moved a little to look at him, before she spoke for the first time.
“Good to see you again. Not dead, I mean.”
Phil gave a chuckle. “You too Nova. Come on, the rest of the team are waiting in the lab.”
He led her down the hall, Katie following, her eyes taking in her surroundings before Coulson stopped at the end of a corridor, near a door to a room that she could see had a glass wall.
“Now, before you go in, there’s something else you should know.” Coulson turned to face her and she looked at him, letting out an angry groan.
“What now?”
“I want you to know, Fury didn’t want me to tell you as he didn’t think you would come, it wasn’t my decision to keep it from you.”
“Keep what from me?” Her temper was flaring again. “I swear to God AC I am this close…”she held her fingers an inch apart, “to losing my shit!”
Coulson hesitated for a moment and then opened the door to the lab. As they walked in six people all looked up from what they’d been watching and turned to face them. One of them was a dark haired girl she didn’t know and next to her were Jemma Simmons and Leo Fitz who Katie knew from the labs when they had worked with Lawson. Then she spotted Melinda May, an agent only rivalled in fighting skills by Natasha.
And then a pair of familiar dark eyes met hers as another familiar face looked up from a tablet.
“Oh for fucks sake!” Katie muttered and she turned to Coulson who shrugged apologetically.
“Good to see you too.” Ward grinned as Katie folded her arms and glared at him.
There was a moment’s pause as the two simply stared at one another, Katie’s teeth grinding together in irritation, before the girl with the dark hair spoke. “Okay, so this is awkward…”
“And this is Skye.” Coulson spoke, breaking up the tension. “She’s a…”
“Hacker.” May supplied, at the same time Skye replied, “consultant”
Katie was really struggling to keep her temper under control now, so missed the irritated glare Skye shot at May. First Coulson, now this. Fury was going to absolutely get the full Stark-slash-Supernova explosion when she got back.
“So, shall we get down to business?” Coulson asked, spotting the look on Katie’s face, realising she needed to focus on something else. “What have you got?”
“We’ve managed to identify our thieves.” May spoke as Sky pressed something on the tablet she was holding. A close up of the woman’s face appeared on the holo-projector in the middle of the room.  “Her name is Petra Larson”
“And this is Jakob Nystrom, her boyfriend. Both thirty.  Leaders of a Norse Paganist hate group”
“And their numbers are growing thanks to what happened in London and the internet” Sky scoffed. “Yay internet,”
“Norse Paganist?” Simmons questioned
“Obsessed with anything derived from Norse mythology, stories of Asgard, yada yada.” Skye explained.
“And now a weapon.” Ward gestured to a long object on the table which Katie hadn’t noticed until that point.
“Is that a 3-d print?” She asked, instantly captivated by the item, looking at Fitz who nodded. “May I?”
“Of course…” He said. Katie picked it up and turned it over in her hands, testing the weight as she scanned it up and down. The detailing was exquisite.
“The scan accounted for only one side.” Fitz explained. “There was too much damage to the tree for a complete reproduction”.
“But, see here, it’s clearly broken on both ends.” Katie held it up. “So there are more pieces.”
“Yeah, two at least” Fitz responded, nodding.
“Which means Sid and Nancy may be looking for a complete set.” Ward spoke as Coulson turned to Katie.
“The markings. Just as you said on the call they’re Asgardian symbolism.”
She looked at the item in her hand and nodded. “Similar to Thor’s hammer.”
“Yeah, hard to translate with our limited knowledge.” Couslon shrugged.
“You should give your buddy the God of Thunder a shout.” Sky spoke “He gets his powers from his hammer, right? What if this is his nail to the hammer?”
“He’s off grid.” Coulson looked at her. “And if he has a cell-phone, we don’t have the number.
“I told to get him a pager.” Katie muttered as she peered at the rod and then something stirred in her mind, and she began racking her brains. There was something similar about this, something that she’d seen or read before, if she could only remember what.
“So,” May looked at Katie, “SHIELD’s investigations are on the trail of Nystrom and his followers.”
“We’re charged with identifying the object and finding any other pieces before they do.” Coulson finished.
Katie nodded, still thinking. “If this acts in the same way as Thor’s hammer then that’s a sensible task.”
And then she trailed off as it suddenly hit her exactly what it was she’d been trying to remember.
“No, it can’t be.” She muttered as Coulson looked at her questioningly. She nodded to the item in her hand and then looked back at him. “I could be wrong but this…this could be a piece of the Beserker Staff.”
“The what?”  Ward frowned.
“It’s from an old legend that a great warrior, from another world came to Earth” Katie spoke, recalling the research she’d done once upon a time. “He had in his possession a magical staff but he loved Earth so much he never left, and he broke the staff into pieces and hid them.”
“Any idea on where?” Coulson asked.  Katie shook her head.
“Well our Pagan friends certainly seem to have some advantage on that front.” Ward sighed. “They found this thing in a hundred and fifty square kilometres of Norwegian forest.”
“Guys, what if it called to them with magic?” Sky asked, her eyes going large and excited.
“Called to them?” May shot her a ‘be real’ look in response.
“We know it’s Asgardian, so the rules are a little bendy here.” Skye pressed.
“Just because we don’t understand something yet doesn’t mean we should regress back to the dark ages, talking of magic and fairy tales” Simmons shook her head and Fitz scoffed his agreement.
“Actually, that’s exactly what we need to do.” Katie looked around as the idea came to her.
“Excuse me?” Simmons asked.
Ignoring him, Katie turned to Agent Coulson. “Remember when we first found the hammer in New Mexico, and I told Fury to consult with an expert on Norse Mythology to fill the gaps.”
“Elliot Randolph,” Phil nodded.
“We should speak to him, he’ll know more about it than me.”
“Alright.” Coulson nodded, looking at May. “He’s a professor at the University of Seville. Set the course, let’s pay him a visit.”
“Shouldn’t take us too long.” May shrugged “But it is getting kinda late. By the time we get there it will be past eight in the evening local time. Can I suggest we head out first thing tomorrow morning?”
Coulson nodded. “Alright. Sounds like a plan. Okay team, lets wrap it up here and get something to eat. Think we’ve earned it.” He then turned to Katie, gesturing with his head for her to follow him out of the room.
He led her down a few more corridors and to a flight of steps which led up to the upper deck of the large airship.
“The Accommodation is probably a bit smaller than you’re used to, but…”
“If it’s that bad imma find a hotel.” She shrugged as she followed Coulson down the corridor.
“What and miss all the fun?” Phil looked over his shoulder. “I’ve had the gin bar stocked specially.”
“Yeah, for the record that isn’t going to take away from the fact that I’m utterly pissed at you and Fury”
“I know you well enough Nova to not even hope that would be the case” Coulson snorted as they turned right. Eventually they reached the living area and Coulson led her to one of the spare rooms.
It wasn’t as bad as Coulson made it out to be, a bed that was slightly bigger than a single but not a full double, with a small wardrobe and a small basin to the side.
“This isn’t so bad.” She turned to Phil who was watching her a little cautiously.
“Glad it meets your approval.” He nodded, leaning in the door way before he took a deep breath. “Look, I really am sorry about all of this. I wouldn’t have-“
“Let’s just find that thing and then I can go home.” Katie cut him off, not in the mood for anymore apologies or explanations. She had a job to do, and the sooner she did it, the sooner she could get back.
“That’s the plan.” Coulson nodded. “I’ll be in the bar in an hour or so, got a few things to sort out before but, well, it would be nice if we could catch up.”
“Yeah, maybe.” Katie replied. There was a pause before Coulson gave her another curt nod.
“I’ll leave you to it.”
With that he turned and left and Katie’s eyes fixed on the now empty doorway. With a purposeful stride, she moved forward and pressed her palm to the pad at the side, the door sliding shut with a slight click.
Katie turned around, looking at her bag which had been placed at the foot of her bed and with a loud, angry groan of frustration she flopped backwards onto the bed, staring up at the ceiling.

Chapter 5: Iron Wills
Summary: Tony and Reader have a heart to heart about coming out as a mutant. Reader surprises the team.
“I’m sorry, could you repeat that? I think I had something crazy stuck in my ears.”
“Stark, don’t be like that. It wasn’t anything too crazy, just dinner.”
“WITH. A. CIA. AGENT!” His voice kept rising to dangerous levels. “Have you lost your mind?! What do you think will happen once he finds out about you?!”
“I guess we’ll find out soon enough.”
“WHAT?!”
“My dear… sweet zombie…. would you please bring your voice down a few dozen notches? If you crack this ceiling, they’ll never find your body.” You had decided to be upfront with Tony the following day and tell him you went to dinner with Everett. It, of course, went over as well as you expected. And it was only going to get worse, as you were about to discuss how you no longer wanted to hide.
He walked over from the row of flowers he was admiring to stand directly in front of your desk. “Please tell me you’re not going to do what I think you’re going to do?”
“Honestly, I can never tell what you’re thinking. You’re usually doing it a mile a minute and you can barely finish a sentence anyway. Plus, I’m not Charles, so it’s not like I can just pull it straight from your head.”
“You’re telling me you’re planning on telling a CIA agent that you’re a mutant. An omega-level mutant.”
“No, I plan to tell Everett Ross I’m a mutant. Him being CIA is just secondary to the whole situation.” You had refused to look at him as you struggled to make two plant cells bond without your mutation. “And I plan to tell everyone else, starting with the team.”
Tony ran his hands over his face. “I can’t believe what I’m hearing! I thought Dad made it perfectly clear what could happened if you outed yourself.”
“Don’t you dare bring Howard into this conversation.” You stormed away from your desk to stand in his face. “He may have seemed indifferent to you, but at least he actually loved you. I was just like his sister; a freak in his eyes!”
Tony stopped and looked at the pained expression in your eyes. “He… he didn’t think you were a freak.”
“Yes, he did. I overheard him telling Maria when they thought I was in bed. He said it was disappointing that I had the Stark’s intelligence, but his sister’s freakish genes.” Your lower lip trembled at this, but you refused to cry at the memory. “I was 12 years old and it was the night before he shipped me off to Xavier’s school. You were busy at M.I.T. so you have no idea what it was like. He just dropped me off after speaking with Charles and didn’t even bother to explain to me where I was, or even just hug me goodbye. Charles and Logan pretty much became my substitute dads.”
“Oh man, I’m so sorry, ____.” He pulled you in for a tight hug and you struggled to bring your breathing under control. “It’s okay, let it out.”
“No, I refuse to cry over what he said about me. I’m better than that.”
“You can’t keep your emotions locked away.” He released you and wiped away a single tear that had managed to escape. “Not like me, anyway.”
“Why not? I keep my powers locked away.” You turned away and walked back to your desk. “But no more. I’m calling in a meeting and telling the team. The sooner, the better. It’s time I became an Avenger.”
“And Agent Ross?”
You gave a small smile. “His name is Everett, Tony. I know you think you’re cute when you do that. You’re not. And I don’t know when I’ll tell him. I need to find the right time, to see what it is between us. He- he’ll probably stop trusting me afterwards; as a CIA agent I can’t imagine trust comes easily in regards to other people.”
“You know, Cap would-”
“Finish that sentence and Pepper will have to blend all your food into smoothies for the rest of your life.”
He held up his hand defensively and slowly backed away. “Just saying, some people – who will remain unnamed – would accept you no matter who you are.”
“Please leave before I chuck a cactus at your head.” You hefted one of your potted plants in your hand and Tony immediately booked it out of the green house. Sighing, you put the cactus back down and walked over to your microscope again.
As the day wore on, you were feeling more and more restless and needed to release your energy. You knew it was dangerous, but you had to stretch your powers. Leaving the green house, you walked over to the compound and climbed every floor until you reached the door for the roof. The air was still and there were only a few clouds in the sky. It was a start, and if you worked slowly, no one would be the wiser that a storm wasn’t originally supposed to happen today.
You sat on a lawn chair you kept on the roof for these very nights. A breeze picked up while more clouds began to form, giving a chill to the air. You guided one to cover the sun when you heard the roof door open. “I’m really not in the mood for a lecture, Tony. Let me have this time to myself, to release this energy. Please.”
“Energy release?”
You whirled around to see it was Steve that had walked out, not your cousin. “Oh, fuck,” you muttered. “Uh, hey Steve. What’s up?”
“What’s this energy release you were talking about?” As he walked over, he took a look at the darkening sky. “We better head in. Looks like it’s gonna storm at any minute.”
“No, not anymore. Why are you up here?”
“I saw you walking towards the stairs and you seemed a little down, so I thought I’d come see if you’d want to talk to someone other than Tony for once.” He sat next to you. “What do you mean it’s not going to storm anymore?”
“Fuck, fuck, fuckity, fuck,” you mumbled, then sighed. “Tony and I got into an argument. It started when I told him how I went to dinner with Agent Ross- er- Everett last night. And it went downhill from there as I told him I wanted to be a part of the team finally.”
You could see the slight hurt in Steve’s face. “You went to dinner with Agent Ross?”
“Well, yeah. I got back from the school wanting to talk to Tony, but you guys had already left. Everett was there to meet with Tony as well, so we decided to go out and grab a bite to eat since no one was around.”
“So. You and Ross…” he looked down at his hands. So that’s why Tony kept pushing you to talk to Steve more; the super soldier had a crush on you.
“Just went to dinner, nothing more. I would like to get to know him more, but once I join the team I don’t know how keen he would be to dating an Avenger.”
“Wait, join the team?” Steve looked up at you. “_____, you’re a good fighter when you train with us and a brilliant scientist, but… I mean no offense, but those traits alone won’t get you on the team.”
“No, they wouldn’t,” you signed again. “But… I’m…. holy fuck why is this so hard to get out? I’ve wanted to say this all my life.”
Steve reached over to take your hand. “Just start slowly, no need to rush.”
You took a deep breath and blurted out, “I’m a mutant!”
His jaw dropped at this. “A… you’re a…”
“A mutant. An omega-level mutant, to be precise.”
Steve stood up and began to pace around the roof. You had only known him this past year as you had joined Stark’s team shortly after the whole battle over the Accords, so you weren’t sure what his reaction would be when you dropped the news. Currently, it looked like he would go into shock at any moment.
“Steve, breathe. Please, just breathe.” You stood up and walked over to him, to help calm down. He instantly jumped at the sight of you close to him, so you stopped dead in your tracts. “Steve?”
He turned and could see the hurt in your eyes at his reaction. Steve immediately ran over and hugged you. “I’m so sorry, _____. I know I’m reacting badly. It’s just a lot to take in.”
You let out a small laugh. “Just wait until you see my powers.”
“You don’t-” he cleared his throat, “you don’t read minds, do you?”
This time you let out a genuine laugh. “No. All of my mutations pertain to nature: weather, elements, flying. I also have enhanced abilities.”
“So that’s what you meant by it wouldn’t storm anymore.”
“Very good, Rogers!” He playfully shoved you and you pretended to dramatically fall on the lawn chair. “Oh! See that! Captain America pushes local woman! Oh what will the papers say?”
Laughing, he sat on the chair again and began to tickle you. Because he now knew your secret, you could play at his level and soon had his hands pinned to his sides. “Wow, super strength, too?”
“Yup! So now it won’t be so easy to attack me like that!” He leaned as you spoke and you could see the change in his eyes, from friends to the hope of something more. Before he could get the wrong idea, you leaped up off the chair and watched as he fell onto his face on the seat. “Hmmm, we better get that checked out. Loss of balance? Hope your serum isn’t wearing off.”
Steve looked up to see you smirking at him, before you turned to face the clouds once more. You raised your hands up and the clouds began to clear, but you kept the breeze.
“C'mon, Cap. We better go tell the others.” You helped pull him up from the chair and headed for the roof door.
As you descended the flights of stairs, Steve cleared his throat. “So, I was thinking…. if it isn’t too weird…”
Oh no, you thought. Please don’t tell me he’s going to ask me out. Not now.
“If you’re not busy Friday, maybe we can catch a movie.”
Ah, fuckity. “Oh, uh maybe. I need to make sure Tony doesn’t need me for anything first.” Why can’t you just say no, like a damn adult? You’re giving him hope.
You shook your head at your thoughts and tossed open the last door. The rest of the team was already gathered in the main area, Tony standing while everyone else sat.
“There you are! I was just thinking, we shouldn’t do this.” Tony began to walk over to you, speaking anything but English. “Were you the one causing all of those clouds?”
“Of course I was,” you said, in English, startling Tony. “And it’s too late. Cap already knows.”
He threw his hands up. “I don’t know why I even bother anymore.”
“What does Steve know?” Nat asked.
“I’m a mutant.”
“Well, duh!”
Everyone did a double take. “I’m sorry, did you just say you knew I was a mutant this whole time?!”
“Well, yeah. I was trained by the KGB, so I pick up on a lot of subtle hints. Like the fact that you took several courses on the X-Gene in college, you won’t tell anyone what boarding school you went to, and you were way too interested in Secretary Ross’ obsession over mutants.”
“Why didn’t you tell any of us?!” Clint protested.
“You mean besides it wasn’t my place to do so?”
“Well, good. Now that we have the basics down….. you should also know I’m an omega.” All their jaws dropped as you went over your list of powers and why Steve was told first.
“I’m sorry,” Sam started, “Why they hell haven’t you been on the team this whole damn time?!”
“Howard ingrained in my head to hide or I would never be accepted.”
“Oh, honey! That could never be the case!” Wanda ran over and tackled you in a big hug.
“Thanks, Wanda! But now comes the hard part: what to do about the government.“
"One step at a time, ____. First, let’s properly train you to be an Avenger.” Tony smiled at you.

FrostIron Part 1
So I volunteered to write a FrostIron fanfic for @belligerentmistletoe , please let me know what you think. I’m always open to honest critique.
I hope it is going to be as much fun to read as I had writing it. Please excuse any typos or weird phrases, I’m not a native speaker.
Had to split it, cause I’m unable to write less than 6k it seems 🙈 I have to remind everyone, that I don’t own any rights to the characters. You read that on your own responsibility. Its a ship, so I don’t have to tell you what can and probably will happen. No violence to it tough. Enough talki-talki, enjoy.
LokixTony
We are at an alternative Timeline, in which Loki joined the Avengers, after he came to earth together with Thor. Thanos never interfered, so we find Loki wandering the Avengers Tower.
All the halls looked the same to him. He lost orientation some time ago, yet he would never admit that. Not to the people who crossed his path, with their ghastly looks and the mistrust they didn’t bother to hide. And when Romanoff and Barton turned the corner, he slipped into the next door hastily.
Loki found himself in a big room with large windows and a bar in it. The light was dimmed and in front of the counter he noticed a figure leaning onto it. Loki stepped closer to see who that was, it turned out to be Stark. And because the god had no other plans he decided to join him.
“I’m still waiting for that drink,” Loki said, sitting down on a barstool next to Stark.
The mechanic was staring at an empty glass, playing with it, as if he would think about what decision to make.
“Your bad, I stopped drinking a long time ago,” Tony answered after a while, as if he would just realise the presence of the god.
“Then why do you look like you would yearn for one?”
“That’s none of your business,” Tony said, turning away gazing out the window.
“Hard day, hmmm? May I help myself to a drink?” Loki asked politely and Tony nodded absent minded. The god made his way round the counter to get himself a glass, which he filled with whiskey. He sat back to his former place and sipped from his drink now and then. The two men sat in silence for some time.
“You know that nearly the whole crew was against having you in the team?” Tony interrupted the quietness.
“I didn’t expect anything else,” Loki shrugged his shoulders, “what is your opinion on the matter?”
“Hmmm,” Tony started playing with the glass again, “to be honest, I’m not happy either. But as I have experienced it myself, I know that people have the capacity to change.” He scratched his head, “I think you deserve a second chance. Anyway, that doesn’t mean I would trust you,” he admitted.
“Fair enough,” the god emptied his glass. “So what made you hide in here? Did Rogers ask for a private conversation?” Loki chuckled.
Tony groaned, “it’s my fathers birthday.”
“And you have no ambitions to get to see him?”
“He’s dead. Steve’s friend ensured that and like you, he’s part of the team now.” Tony dropped his head into both his hands, “seems like everyone deserves forgiveness, even mass murderers. No offence.”
“I’m sorry for your loss Anthony,” said Loki. If Tony would have looked up, he would have seen that the god wasn’t.
“No need to be sorry. Howard was an asshole,” Tony slammed his fist onto the table.
“Then why do you even bother?” Loki raised an eyebrow.
“Would you not, if someone killed your parents?” Tony mumbled the words to his glass.
“I would give everything to get my mother back and to bring revenge for her death. For the Allfather? I would send a letter of appreciation,” Loki smirked. “Unfortunately I have to send it to myself.” The god wasn’t in full control of his facial expressions and for once more they proved him a liar. Tony gave no reaction to it, so Loki felt encouraged to go on. “He was a miserable father most of the time. You know, kidnappet me from my realm. Promised me a throne that he never intended to give to me,” the longer he talked, the more agitated he got. “I never understood why he took me away from my home in the first place. To make me feel like a freak, once I discovered my true nature?” Slowly the illusion slipped away. His skin turned blue, the eyes red. When he realised he had unmasked himself, he turned back to his human appearance in an instance.
“In the end he was just an old man full of regrets,” Loki ended his monologue.
Tony let out a loud snore.
“Anthony?”, Loki asked in surprise.
“He’s asleep Sir,” a bodiless female voice informed him.
“Thank you for pointing out the obvious,” Loki rolled his eyes, “well, I’m sorry my story seemed to bore him that much.” The god jut his chin forward.
“If that’s a comfort Sir, he was tired the whole day. The fight with Miss Potts made it even worse,” Friday explained.
Loki slid down the barstool and stepped towards Tony.
“Can you explain to me how to find his bedroom?” he asked.
Friday gave him directions, while Loki lifted Tony into his arms. He just hoped that nobody would see him. Not because he would be ashamed of carrying another man, but because of the general distrust that was brought to his person.
The AI woman followed him, to assure that her boss would make it back to his room safely. Not even a humanoid person trusted him, if that wasn’t good news!
Carefully the god placed the fragile human into the sheets. Loki kneeled down to untie Tony’s shoes and placed them on the ground.
He even ensured to pull the blanket over the mechanic's body.
Loki hesitated a second, somehow he liked Stark. With a soft touch to his fingertips he brushed some stray hair out of the other man's face.
Loki turned away and made his way back to the bar. He felt the urgent need for a bottle of wine, or better two.
***
Tony opened his eyes, because the sun was beaming directly into his face.
How did he even get to bed? He couldn’t remember.
“Friday, please tell me I didn’t do anything stupid yesterday night?” he asked into the void.
“No sir. But I’m afraid your company has,” she answered.
“My comp—oh fuck! I was with Loki, wasn’t I?” he didn’t bother to wait for an answer, “where is he now?”
“Shop floor,” was the hesitant answer.
“You let him in?!” Tony flared.
“Mr. Laufeyson has been very charming,” came the snippy answer.
“How could he charm you, you’re not even a real person,” Tony grumbled.
“But he treated me like one.”
“Remind me to look over your coding,” he said.
“Yes Sir.”
Tony made his way through the maze of floors on the Avengers Tower until he reached his sanctuary. When he stepped inside his feet shoved a bottle on the ground. It slid away, crashing into more empty glass.
“What the fuck?” he raised his arms in disbelief.
The scene was like a bad comic. Loki lay in the middle of the room, surrounded by wine bottles. The gods head popped up when he heard Tony enter.
“Aaaanthony,” he beamed at the new arrival.
“Are you drunk? I didn’t think it was possible, according to how much Thor can drink,” Tony slapped his hands onto his cheeks and let them slide down his face.
“He had about twenty bottles Sir,” Friday informed him.
“Twenty?!” Tony looked onto the mess on the floor, “and why did he drink them in here?”
“I couldn’t find the corkscrew,” Loki babbled.
“And so what? You decided to use a hammer instead?”, Tony shouted, which made Loki twist his mouth in pain.
“It was a screwdriver to be accurate,” Loki corrected him.
“How did that even work?” Tony was shaking his head, “anyway, don’t you have a place to go back to?”
“Of course, it seems like I’m the guest who stayed too long. My apologies, I’ll leave immediately,” Loki pushed himself back onto his feet. Not without some effort to keep his balance.
“If you give me the address, I can call you an Uber,” Tony offered, without hiding the annoyance in his voice.
“No need for that,” Loki assured, pointing at his boots.
Tony looked at him, as if the god had lost his wit.
“Darling, would you mind opening a window for me?” Loki asked the ceiling.
“Not at all Sir,” Friday answered. Instantly one of the big windows slid open. Meanwhile Tony had crossed his arms, watching the scene in disbelief.
Loki clicked his heels together like little Dorothy and started walking on thin air. His seven league boots had proved great benefit to him over the years.
“Those god’s and their magic stuff,” Tony mumbled to himself jealously, looking at the god’s back. “Uh-oh,” he gasped, the second Loki reached the window. The god had stepped way too close to the ceiling, but as he had turned his head to give a superior smile towards Tony, he didn’t see the mural. His head collided with the wall and he fell over backwards. With a nasty sound, Loki smashed onto the ground.
“Oh for heaven's sake, Thor is going to kill me!” The mechanic ran to the god’s side, checking if he was fine.
“Vital signs stable Sir,” Friday informed him, “I scanned his body, it’s nothing but a cut on the forehead.”
“Fucking drunkard,” Tony had troubles not to slap Loki while he was already on the floor.
“Ouch—where did that mural come from?” Loki said with a raspy voice.
“It was there all the time you jerk,” Tony was rolling his eyes.
“Maybe I better take that Uber?” Loki rubbed his forehead, smearing blood all over it.
“First of all, we need to look after this cut,” Tony commanded.
“It’s nothing. I don’t want to bother you any longer Anthony,” Loki said, getting up again.
“You stubborn…” Tony began.
“It will heal,” Loki interrupted him.
“Yes, after you spilled blood all over the floor,” Tony grabbed him by the shoulder. With one fast move he had sprayed something onto the cut. It cooled the throbbing wound in an instant which took Loki by surprise.
“What was that?” Loki asked.
“Something to close the cut. Now tell me where your brother is?”
Loki was shrugging his shoulders, “I don’t know.”
“Didn’t he tell you where he wanted to go?”
“No—by chance I would think he’s stalking Miss Foster again,” a smirk appeared on the god’s face.
Tony hid his face in his hand, he had no clue Thor expected him to play babysitter. “You can stay if you want to,” he sighted.
“I’d prefer to sleep in my own bed.” Loki was brushing his bloody hands on his pants.
“Fine, I’ll drive you!” Tony snapped at him.
“Please, I don’t want to be a burden for you. I’ll find my way back home on my own,” Loki bitched back.
Tony ignored him, “Friday, make sure the Audi is waiting for us.”
“Yes Sir.”
***
Loki’s flat was surprisingly ordinary. Tony would have expected it to be an opulent palace with shiny gold statues showing the god’s counterfeit. One could almost call it minimalist. There wasn’t even much furnishings but a sofa opposite a TV and a big bookshelf covering the wall next to the door. That’s all Tony could see when stepping in. There was a corridor to his right but he felt uncomfortable exploring it without permission.
The polite god had had a feeling that there wasn’t any chance to get rid of his Nanny, so he asked Tony in.
Loki offered him a place on the sofa, but the mechanic disliked sitting down, he preferred to browse the bookshelf.
“Make yourself at home, please. The kitchen you’ll find next door, if you want something to drink. If you could excuse me for a while, I need to have a shower now,” Loki said, disappearing down the corridor.
Tony was fascinated by the books, some of them were written in languages he had never seen before. But also there were many classics he did know, like Shakespeare (at least it must be familiar to Asgardians, as they used this sort of language), Dante, Goethe and many more. Tony randomly grabbed one of the books and pulled out an old, leather bound copy of the Norse Myths.
‘Why would Loki want to read his own tales?’ Tony wondered. He made his way to the sofa and sat down, flipping through the pages. He found notes, scribbled in a child like writing to the side of the text.
One said: ‘After studying Shakespeare, I wonder if he used Valstagg as a role model for his Falstaff? Utter fun.’
Tony was frowning his brows. He had read the Myths before, yet he was interested in seeing them through the god’s eyes, so he started from the beginning. At some point Loki came back in, bringing with him two freezing cans of Coke. He handed one to Tony, when he sank into the pillows next to him.
The mechanic didn’t even bother to look at him, missing the fact that Loki was wearing nothing but boxer shorts. Loki sipped his drink, watching Tony with some interest. After a while he placed the can onto the small table in front of him and let his body sink deeper into the sofa. Loki’s head tipped over to the back, leaning against the wall. He had dark spaces underneath his eyes, the twenty bottles had taken their toll him. Loki fell asleep.
Tony wouldn’t have realised that either, if Loki didn’t sink onto the mechanics shoulder.
“Hey,” Tony tried to push Loki away with one hand. With the effect that Loki’s head landed in Tony’s lap, what made him look down at the god.
“Sweet Jesus, couldn’t you find a T-Shirt?” Tony shifted uncomfortably. Never had he imagined the guy would be so heavy. There was no chance to free himself. Tony sighted, finally he made himself as comfortable as possible and read on.
He was absorbed by the story, when, without his doing, Tony’s hand found its way into Loki’s hair, running his finger through it. The mechanic did that quite a while, until Loki turned around facing the opposite side. Tony got aware of what he was doing. Shocked, he stared at his hand.
Did he just pet another man?! And why did it feel so natural?
He shook the thought off. That was all because of the fight with Pepper, he told himself. He should phone her and apologise. But at this very moment he had no intention to do so. His attention was focused on the god in his lap. Observing Loki’s face this close for the first time, he realised how young he looked. That there was some sadness to it, but also an innocent peace in his sleep.
Tony felt the urge to trace Loki’s cheekbones with his index finger.
Trying to resist, he couldn’t tell how much time had passed. The light was fading slowly, when Loki opened his eyes again. He looked surprised about the delicate situation he found himself in.
Tony was bowing over him, with his face so close that Loki could feel the other man's breath on his cheek.
“Uuuhm, Anthony?” he whispered.
That woke Tony from his rigidity, he shied back.
“You wouldn’t wake up…,” he tried to explain, yet he couldn’t help but stare at Loki’s lips.
What the fuck was wrong with him?!
“I need to pee,” Tony stuttered just to get away from Loki.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” the god sat back up.
In an instant Tony was on his feet, heading towards the bathroom. It wasn’t a lie that he had to pee. The Coke wanted to leave his system.
Fiddling for his zipper he froze.
That couldn’t be true! Did he build a tent in his trousers for a guy who once tried to kill him?
Even worse, did Loki realise he had?
Tony felt panic creeping up his chest. Taking some huge effort, he fought the panic down, forcing himself to empty his full bladder.
The mechanic flushed the toilet, turning around to wash his hands. He splashed cold water to his face, tearing out his hair with wet hands.
Tony was desperate about his unusual behaviour. How had Loki managed to charm him? It must have been a spell, there was no other explanation to this awkward situation.
‘I am a straight man, I am a straight man, I am a…’ Tony kept repeating his Mantra.
Well of course there had been some experiments in College, but nothing that ended up to be serious.
When he found he had cooled down, he went back to the living room.
“I just got a call, I need to leave,” he told Loki, staying away as far as possible. He turned towards the door, his fingers already on the door handle, as he felt the god’s hand closing on his wrist, holding him back.
“Uhm, you’ve been my first guest…and, I…thank you for visiting my place,” Loki said, looking at the floor.
Tony opened his mouth in surprise. This day couldn’t get any weirder.
“Thanks for having me,” Tony replied with a little smile, “I really have to go now,” he insisted and Loki let go of his arm.
***
Stark had been in such a hurry to leave, that Loki wondered if he had done something wrong. He was laying on the sofa again, breathing in Tony’s scent that was still lingering there. It reminded the god of machine oil and iron with something fruity to it, but Loki couldn’t figure out what it was.
Did Stark intend to kiss him?
Loki couldn’t tell. The only thing he knew was that he would have allowed him to, this very moment. He wanted it as he saw Tony’s eyes resting on his lips. That’s what worried him most. What would Thor say, if he’d know?
Probably something like: “I knew Stark first,” that made Loki laugh deep down in his throat.
At times he missed his brother, yet he knew why Thor left him here. The god of thunder wanted Loki to get along with everyone on his own. And Thor had to care for New Asgard of course. But they had agreed not to give away too much about it right now.
Loki was the one to stay in New York and keep an eye on the doings of the Avengers.
Yet he wanted to be with Tony for very different reasons.
The mechanic dominated his thoughts and made a new desire grow within him. One he wasn’t sure he ever felt before.

thank you! and reminder: please send in the full prompt!
76.) “If you lay a finger on him, I’ll kill everyone in this room.”
Tony Stark was not supposed to be a detective. He was not supposed to be a lot of things. But when his father had told him at age seven that all he’d ever be was a disappointment, he decided he might as well do whatever the hell he wanted with his life.
So. A detective. That had gone over well with his college advisor.
“Aren’t you...aren’t you Howard’s son?” He had said nervously, readjusting his glasses for about the eighth time in seven minutes.
“Yes, but I also have a mother. And my mother is very keen on my having some skills of my own. Between you and I, we all know my father is going to hand it over to his business partner.”
(This all is a very direct lie. His mother could not honestly care less what he does with his life as long as he never looks her in the eye and tells her that boxed wine is good. He’s not going to look her in the eye for quite some time.)
Being a detective isn’t all film noir and extravagant lifestyle. Sure he gets paid the big bucks. He blends into high society well but is just unknowable enough to put on an old pair of jeans and slink into a coffee shop under the guise of being another guy on his laptop. That’s a skill few possess.
There’s also the tiny, teensy little detail that he’s one of the only detectives to risk secret-agency-detection because in all honesty the security systems were built by Stark Industries and Howard wasn’t exactly what anyone would call “stellar” at security measures.
Tony, however, was.
(Did some side work for SI, you know the drill. Sure his father wasn’t exactly thrilled, but it’s not like there was the PR nightmare of Stark Sr. not being as smart in his old age as people always expected.)
So when he gets an offer for finding and capturing the Winter Soldier from someone named Natalie?
Well, he asks if he gets to use his frequent flier miles and packs a bag for DC.
The Winter Soldier is regarded as a conspiracy theory. A man who is all machine, does the dirty work for an undercover organization, and has a shiny arm that can do a lot of things that Tony dreams about at night.
He likes conspiracy theories. Enjoys the hell out of solving them. (Roswell was a particularly fun one to crack.)
So he starts with research.
There is one thing to be said about the Winter Soldier:
He’s notoriously bad at hiding his tracks beyond the usual security measures. Restricting camera access, destroying tapes, passing off a flimsy excuse as to why a politician, peacemaker, or civilian that was causing a little too much trouble was suddenly found dead, the coronary reports restricted on a need-to-know basis.
Don’t make him laugh.
People talk. They always do, doesn’t matter if it’s been a year or thirty.
The coroners, the police, the people that surrounded the target. They all nervously whisper about suspecting someone else.
He gets closer to the location. He can tell by the thrum he holds in himself now, the way sleep doesn’t come as easily. (Although he still gets it. You don’t buy 400 thread count for nothing.)
Hydra is still in business. Of course it is.
He pays SHIELD a little visit.
That organization is about the worst-kept secret in the world. He dresses up in a smart suit, ridiculous glasses, and pastes a cheesy grin on his face.
He’s in an interview for tech. Gets lost on his way there. The person conducting the interviews has them booked back to back. When a “Mr. Edward Jarvis” does not show up for the interview, the next candidate will come in.
Of course, he looks like any other employee scurrying around with stacks in his arms. Face is obscured by cameras. He’s bypassed Stark Industries’ security features, and he gets to the file room.
Holy shit. It’s bad.
After spending at least two minutes thinking he would die from coughing from all the dust.
They don’t organize anything. All of the paper files, it seems, have been abandoned as soon as the digitized platform came out. (Which makes sense.)
He finds the file box on Winter Soldier. Everything, suspiciously, is blacked out. But he finds one name: Alexander Pierce.
For a man who is about to overtake SHIELD and ruin the entire world, you think he’d have a less consistent schedule. Or that his house would be harder to get into.
Moral of the story: you can break into the window in an attic.
Tony is making coffee.
Pierce stops in his tracks.
“Who the hell are you?”
“Why do you have Folgers? You live in a nice neighborhood. You live like this?” Tony asks. He takes a swig of coffee, winces. “God I haven’t had stuff this bad since I was in college. Ew.”
“If you’re here to kill me, you’ve got yourself in a bigger mess than you know.”
“No, I don’t think I am,” Tony answers. “Because you? You’re stuck here. With me. You can try to run but to be completely frank, your joint medication by the paper towels speak to your ability to outrun me. There’s also the little fact that I’m not here for the typical reason.”
“So what, you’re not an enemy of SHIELD?” Pierce asks.
“Of course I’m not,” Tony says, smiling. “Even like a couple of their agents. But you’re not exactly SHIELD, are you? Some PR talked about one head cut off, two more grow back. I’m not exactly sure if you know how human anatomy works, but...”
Pierce grins.
“Oh, then you know about our little project.”
“Of course I do,” Tony says. “Not so little, though. Didn’t get him operational until 1954? What was that, your birth year? Can’t imagine he’s perfect.”
His smile thins.
“It’s taken trial and test runs. But he’s perfect now.”
“Ah, there’s the problem,” Tony says. “Because he probably broke a lot of people, didn’t he Pierce? Probably threw at least one person. I saw the specs for the arm. A lot of power behind that.”
“And how would you know about the arm?” Pierce asked. “We don’t keep blueprints.”
“You don’t,” Tony says slowly. “But the creator does. And you should’ve looked a lot carefully at who was behind your little experimental arm, Pierce. You shouldn’t trust a Stark to stay in a lane.”
His eyes widen.
Tony loves theatrics. He also likes that he was the one who technically found out about the little quirk.
“So here’s what you didn’t know,” Tony continues. “Our hypothetical technological inventions have a tracking component on them, just in case we cannot find them in our inventory or database. And even though your scientists did an excellent job at hiding the box and filling it with a truly terrible amount of cookbooks, they did not know about that little feature.”
Tony pulls out his phone.
“Your Soldier is in...wow, you’re keeping him local? Pierce, I expected more from you.”
“What do you want.”
“I want him,” Tony says. “And I’ll leave you alone.”
“Absolutely not,” Pierce seethes. “Why would we give you the star of the show?”
“Because,” Tony says. “Your show sucks, if I’m being completely honest. One branch of Hydra is completely dedicated to the idea of Inhumans and is batshit insane. Another branch is literally only focused on weapons, and another is about this. It’s a shit-show. If there was a show about this I would not give it anything past three seasons.”
Alexander Pierce looks like he’s going to burst a vein.
Tony moves on.
“Along with that if I cannot get him from you, I will be getting him. And if you touch a hair on his head, I will kill you.”
Alexander Pierce looks mad. Which of course he does. Tony tends to have that effect on people, Rhodey says so.
“Do you think you can even get out of my house? You think I won’t know your face, know that Tony Stark threatened me? Will anyone even believe you?”
“Aw Andy, you say the sweetest things,” Tony says smiling. “I told you I was a Stark for two reasons. I’ve already told you the first one, let’s see when you wake up if you can guess the second.”
“What--”
And...man down.
And Pepper told him a taser-pen was “hopefully frivolous” and “why the fuck would you ever make that for a pen you barely you know which coffee cup is yours and you just drink from both.”
Pierce is left tied up in his kitchen on the floor, Tony admires the window seat for a brief moment, and leaves the files incriminating Pierce along with about sixty to a hundred other people.
He has a taxi to catch.
“You know he will probably kill you,” Rhodey says on the phone. “And then I get to give my eulogy and I’m going to tell everyone you secretly liked cheese pizza only.”
“I will literally commit a war crime against you,” Tony says. “Not even joking. I’ll face Congress if I have to.”
Rhodey rolls his eyes.
“You can’t, they’d kick you out.”
“Oh, just for wearing a ripped up crop top and jean shorts? What, would I be a menace to society?”
“You’re always a menace,” Rhodey mutters. “Listen, I gotta go. Pepper’s freaking out about your advertisements in the newspaper and the correct grammar.”
“Bye!” Tony says.
DC is definitely not Tony’s style. At least, for now. He can’t even enjoy coffee, he has to foil an assassination plot.
Winter Soldier is not subtle, as he’s said. Neither are the Hydra agents who are just painfully obvious.
At least this might be done by dinner.
He also faces the Winter Soldier. That’s fun. It’s too early to really be anything but fun.
He walks right up to him.
“Do you know someone named Natalie?” Tony asks.
“What?” Winter Soldier asks. “No. Move or I’ll move you.”
“Very robotic, ugh,” Tony says, smiling. “No, I have a job to do. You’re not moving me.”
Winter Soldier lunges.
Tony sidesteps and throws him off his balance with a cafe chair.
Their fight takes them to a bridge.
“You’ve compromised the mission,” Winter Soldier hisses. “Why?”
“Because I got hired to bring you back,” Tony says.
“To Hydra?”
“No,” Tony says. “God no, they’re terrible. No, someone named Natalie wants you rescued.”
“Natalia,” Winter Soldier murmurs. “How do you know her?”
“I don’t,” Tony says. “At least, far as I know. I was asked to find you and bring you to her and whoever else is there. So, are you in?”
He pauses, looks out at the city.
“How are you gonna get me out of here?”
“You underestimate the power of tourism,” Tony says. “Let’s go.”
One “I Visited the Washington” sweatshirt and long hair wrapped into a bun later, Tony is walking out with who appears to be Bucky Barnes.
“Of course you are,” Tony mutters. “Okay, let’s get to the meeting point.”
“Are you staying?” Barnes asks.
Tony cocks his head. “What do you want me for?”
“You just helped me escape from Hydra. You’re most likely near-suicidal. I think you need to stay close.”
Tony rolls his eyes good-naturedly.
“I’m not near-suicidal. Of course I’m not. I stick around for a really nice pizza joint. But Natalie--or Natalia, you called her that right?”
“Natalie’s a fake name.”
“Of course it is, who names their kid Natalie anymore?” Tony quips. “But besides the point. She probably can do you more good than I can. After all, I don’t ever drink out of the right coffee cup. I am very, insanely doubtful that I am of any help whatsoever.”
“Fine then,” Barnes says. “I’ll keep an eye on you.”
“I’m sure you will.”
Tony doubts this.
But he drives him to where whoever the hell hired him lives. It’s a nice, upscale apartment. Probably costs about as much as his whole apartment building’s rent in total.
Of course, the woman who greets them looks gorgeous. Barnes knows her easily enough.
“Thank you, Stark,” the woman says.
“What do I actually call you?” Tony asks. “You know my name, I know two of yours.”
“Call me Natasha,” she says. “And anything else isn’t your business.”
“Of course not, I would expect a check in the mail otherwise,’ Tony remarks. “So. Barnes is delivered back to you. Expect payment tonight or tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow at twelve,” she answers. “Afternoon.”
“See you around,” Tony says, waving. “Barnes, try not to kill anyone right now. Seriously gonna ruin the springtime mood, you know?”
Bucky Barnes stares after him.
Natasha smiles.
“Welcome back, James.”
He nods. Goes and sits in a chair.
“You gonna turn my brain back to mush or let me stay?”
“Stay,” Natasha answers. “I escaped Red Room. I knew I needed to get you.”
“And why not do it yourself? It’s not like you can’t,” he answers.
“Because I was confident that Tony could leave more of a...dramatic element to it,” Natasha answers. “And he did. SHIELD is currently reforming all of its employees. One of the ladies who always let me eat strawberry yogurt from the fridge worked for them. He also helped dismantle any chance at regrouping to get you.”
“Smart,” James answers. “Who is he? Stark?”
“He’s an asshole, but a skilled detective,” Natasha adds. “Son of Howard Stark. You remember him?”
“He was supposed to be my next mission,” James says, feeling a bit of the Winter Soldier seep back in. “Guess I won’t have a perfect record.”
“You don’t have a perfect record, trust me,” Natasha adds. “And I didn’t get you for anything other than a rescue mission. You’re free.”
-
Being free, James finds, is terrifying.
Natasha has set him up with his own apartment. He has therapy appointments every Wednesday and Saturday. Grocery shopping is...interesting.
And he keeps using his past skills to check in on Tony, who is doing well in life, if not a bit...wary.
He’s assuming you don’t expose the underbelly of at least two secret organizations without gaining some traction.
He’s gotten takeout four times this week. It’s Thursday. This is sad.
His therapist also recommends that he gets “friends.” James is not exactly sure how to do that.
So instead he breaks into Tony’s office.
“We’re friends now,” he announces as Tony yelps and drops his plate.
“Oh my god you could’ve just not snuck in!” Tony screeches. “I dropped my rolls!”
They do become friends after that. Tony decides that James needs to try every single coffee shop that’s ever open.
(He’s a sucker for iced caramel lattes. They’re good.)
They both learn how to cook different foods, and try to make noodles.
“Oh my god we’re both disasters,” Tony says, laughing. He takes a picture of James poking at the disastrous attempt.
“Take me to pizza?” he asks.
“Like you have to ask,” Tony says. “Come on.” He smiles at him, amazed by how much he’s changed. He grabs his jacket.
-
It is Rhodey who clocks it first.
“You like him,” he crows. “You like him. You like the assassin!”
“Ex-assassin,” Tony corrects. “And no. Of course I don’t.”
“You call him ‘babe’, Tony.”
“And I call you all sorts of pet names,” Tony argues.
“Calling me literally the weirdest pet names like ‘honeybear sweetums’ or ‘platypus’ does not count,” Rhodey says. “You do don’t call me babe. Besides, you like hugging him all the time and I guarantee that you like him. Even if he is an ex-assassin and still thinks completing a thousand piece puzzle gives you the same rush of serotonin as jumping out of a car.”
“He’s fun like that!” Tony protests. “Besides, he doesn’t have a lot of people in his life.”
“That’s a lie,” Rhodey says. “He regrettably met Steve. Again. And he has Sam. Which I think they are friends. Natasha makes him do things.”
“Wow your description of friends are so amazing,” Tony deadpans. “It’s like you have some of your one. You sound like a robot.”
“I’m still right, it’s not like I’m not,” Rhodey says. “You know this. Pepper probably also knows that you like James.”
He consults Pepper. Clearly she will have some sense.
“I demand a raise,” she says. “Because I can detect this shit better than you can.”
“You’re getting a raise but not because of this.”
“Good,” Pepper says. “Now go organize a nice dinner out or something. Get out of here. I’m rearranging your office desk.”
Tony groans. He hates it when she does that.
He supposes they are both right.
So he also supposes that he might have to take James to a coffee shop and tell him.
What Tony doesn’t know is that James is gearing up to tell him that he likes him.
It was brought to his attention by Sam and Natasha.
“You like him,” Sam says.
“We’re friends!”
“Friends don’t write their wedding vows on a napkin,” Natasha remarks. “Go organize a coffee date and tell him. I swear if you don’t tell him I’m going to make you confess at three a.m.”
“If you get me up at three a.m. I’m violating so many rules,” James says. “Like at least four.”
“Do five!” Steve yells from the couch. “And tell Rhodey hi for me!”
“No, he hates you,” James says.
“Exactly!”
He sighs, texting Tony.
hey can u meet me @ clocktower, 7?
sounds gr8 :)
Tony doesn’t know why James wants coffee. But he’s happy and definitely only that, ignore his shaking fingers. It’s the caffeine clearly.
(The caffeine isn’t helping. He knows that.)
“Hi,” James says. “Thank you for coming to the coffee shop. Tonight.”
“You’re awkward,” Tony blurts out. “Why are you speaking in fragmentary sentences?”
“That was at most only one fragmentary sentence.”
“Oh.”
They sit for a moment, James goes to get coffee.
Tony steels himself.
“You remember how I told you that you probably weren’t going to see a lot of me?” Tony asks.
“Are you leaving?” James asks, eyes wide. “I’m going with you. Obviously.”
“No you dumbass, I’m not leaving,” Tony says, taking another sip. “But do you remember?”
“Clearly,” James says with a snort.
“Well I was wrong. And we’re friends. And...well. Fuck it. I love you, and not in a like a friendship way. I really, really have been wondering what it’s like to kiss you. And if you don’t feel the same way then just tell me and we’ll be cool just give me like a month.”
James grins.
“You mean to tell me we can finally actually go on a date at that fancy seafood restaurant you’ve been dying to go to?”
“We could’ve always done that, but yes it will be nice to look at you across,” Tony says.
James takes his hand, smiling.
“Can I take you out on Friday then?”
“I’ll wear my best suit,” Tony says, grinning.
When they’re asked about how they meet, it’s not exactly like you can say “oh I got assigned to find and capture the love of my life and we also managed to wreck a secret organization” for the origin story.
So they usually keep telling people they met while on a business call.
Technically true.

Overnight Trip to Stark Industries 3
Link to the first part HERE (I mean it’s a field trip fic so the set up is the same, but the first two parts are only on AO3 right now xD)
I know I’m new to the fandom, and mostly post over on AO3 but I think I’ll start sharing some more One-shots over here because I freaking adore Spideychelle. Also, anyone who does REALLY needs to check out @premiere-pro They have one of the best writing styles I’ve seen in ages, and they have a series called “super cuts” that retells Iron Man 2, Avengers, and Iron Man 3 currently with Spidey in them and it’s amazing. I’m gonna reread them soon.
Anyway:
XxXxXxXxX
The air was practically vibrating in the elevator as everyone wondered what the first stop of the tour would be. Someone had even turned to their tour guide Ashe in the elevator their half was in. “What is the itinerary for today?”
Ashe looked at them, owlish for a moment. “Did… did your teachers not explain it? I believe it was on the paperwork as well.” Peter heard her voice drop to a whisper. “Did I not explain it?”
The student looked a little sheepish. “There was a lot of paperwork…”
Nodding, Ashe recovered smoothly. “I totally get that. Working here often comes with loads of paperwork. So many NDA’s, it’s easy to lose track of things. I’ll explain once we get to the first stop, just so I don’t have to repeat myself.” She offered with a crowd winning smile.
Peter saw her turn back to him and mouth “oops” and Peter snickered. Ashe was a very good PA, she could handle people better than pretty much anyone else Peter knew, aside from maybe Tony himself. But he also had heard she could be a bit distracted easily, which was why she always had a tablet to double check to keep her tasks organized and on track. Though it wasn’t like Peter could blame her, he forgot stuff constantly and Tony was even worse. It was honestly a miracle that Pepper had come into Stark Industries to help keep everything running smoothly.
Ned turned to Peter. “Do you know what’s happening first?”
Shaking his head, Peter sighed. “Like I said, Ned. I really know nothing about what’s going on this tour. I wasn’t exactly thrilled to go on it, and I kinda spend a lot of time here so I never took it myself. I just know that it’s supposed to be super memorable.”
Ned was still nodding, as if the plain explanation Peter was offering was super secret spoilers. MJ was just leaning against the wall, arms crossed as she watched them all with an amused expression. He was glad at least someone was amused.
The elevator ended and they stepped out into… a plain hallway.
Everyone seemed a bit confused. It was clear the expectations had been a bit more… grandeur. Ashe smiled as she made a broad motion, urging the group to gather around.
“So I bet you all are wondering what we are doing on this trip. In case some of you did not properly read the itinerary, I thought it would be prudent to review our schedule!”
There was some excited murmur from the group of students. Peter just rolled his eyes. He met her eyes and mouthed “smooth” to her. Ashe turned to the group, but Peter saw her subtly raise a peace sign in his direction.
“So! As you know, our trip is split into two days. The first day will explore the technology and R&D portion of Stark Industries, and the second day will cover the Avengers and affiliated programs.” Ashe quieted for a moment as a wave of cheers and very loud murmuring broke out. Ned was freaking out, grabbing Peter’s arm and shaking it. Peter barely noticed, because he felt his face pale. He was about to raise his arm, but someone else had gotten the idea first.
“Yes, you!” Ashe said, pointing.
“Will we be meeting any Avengers?” Cindy asked eagerly.
Pausing for dramatic effect, a massive grin crept on Ashe’s face. “Yes! You will be meeting multiple Avengers on this trip. While not all trips are afforded this opportunity, this trip has been lucky enough to be part of the September Foundations outreach program to help connect the future generation to both Stark Industries and the Avenger’s initiative, as at the core, the heroes serve the people and outreaches like this help close the gap and build bridges.” Ashe offered in a smooth, practiced flow.
Another loud wave of cheers rang out from the group and Peter winced, covering his ears slightly. His enhanced senses were NOT as happy as they were at the moment. He felt MJ’s hand rub his back gently.
“Dude! DUDE!” Ned practically shouted at him, wide eyes. Peter couldn’t help but grin at his friend despite the growing dread in his stomach. He was happy for Ned, even though Ned had met all the Avengers at least once by now. This was a rare chance for all of his friends and he was happy for them.
But there was no way in hell this tour had been “randomly selected” for this. There was absolutely foul play here and it reeked of nepotism.
“Lucky, my ass. I think this was Pepper’s idea of ‘helping me out’.” Peter muttered to Ned and MJ.
“GOOD.” Ned said unapologetically.
MJ shrugged. “Technically, they aren’t under any obligation to not choose this trip just because they know you. They have the right to choose whatever groups they want.”
Peter raised an eyebrow. “I thought you were against Nepotism.”
MJ offered him a sly grin. “Technically the entire class benefits from this experience, so you aren’t stealing all the benefit from others. You’re more of… an asset in our appeal to the process. It’s prudent to make use of the advantages we are offered.”
“So I’m an asset.” Peter deadpanned to her. “That’s how you see me.”
MJ shrugged. “You’re my favorite asset.”
“You just like me for my assets.” Peter mocked.
“It is a nice asset.” MJ replied cooley. Peter stared at her for a moment, blinking before his cheeks started to tint red. Did… did she just hit on him?
MJ grinned triumphantly, having won the exchange as the group tuned back into Ashe.
“Our first stop will be a brief history of the company, followed by a tech demonstration. There will be a surprise challenge, followed by lunch and the end of the challenge, then a chance for outreach and interaction with SI representatives to end the day before dinner and some free time. We will leave tomorrow’s plan for tomorrow, so make the most of today while you can!”
Another break where the group was too busy talking to each other for Ashe to have a hope of controlling them, but she didn’t seem particularly surprised or bothered by it, instead answering some question that Mr. Harrington was asking that Peter couldn’t hear over the roar of overly excited teenagers.
“So at least one day before the Avengers ruin my life.” Peter muttered mostly to himself. He winced as he felt MJ gently pinch his back where she had been rubbing it.
“Stop being so dramatic, nerd. Things will workout fine.” She reassured, glancing towards her other nerd with a small smile as Ned was still freaking out with Abe.
Ashe checked the time on her starkpad before waving her arms a bit to gather attention back on her. “As much as I’m sure you’re having fun talking about how ‘hella cool’ this tour is gonna be, how about we actually start it?”
MJ raised at the expression and Ashe seemed to notice it and smirked in response.
Ashe led her gaggle of students towards a wide set of double doors that really didn’t look like anything special. Peter couldn’t quite place where he had seen them before though. They seemed… different.
“First stop on our tour will be a brief history of Stark Industries. This is actually a rather brand new installation and vastly upgraded from our older lecture version. I think you all will be pretty pleased by it. Without further ado, let’s begin!” She said, earning a few hoots and cheers from the class as she dramatically pushed open the doors.
Students practically rushed into… a blank room. All the walls were either glass or another blank surface. In the center of the massive room was a circular pedestal with a device on top of it. Everyone looked around confused, and Peter could practically hear their disappointment.
Ashe, however, was having far too much fun watching their expressions. “Just be patient. Is everyone in? Good! Okay, now everyone I suggest you stand back to start, and do keep in mind the center dias please.” She said before stepping back. After a moment the rest of the class stepped back too as murmurs of concern started to grow a little louder.
Peter, however, remembered <em>exactly</em> what this was and a massive grin crept on his face. He had no idea they had actually fully finished this project, it had been ages since he had helped out other interns with this. He had been involved in the development and the construction of the technology, not as much the final touches and execution of it.
He gestured for MJ and Ned to step back a little more. “Ned, do your best not to freak out too much.”
Ned nodded a bit too eagerly as he stared at the console, already amazed even though nothing had happened yet.
MJ seemed a bit skeptical, but scooted a little closer to him and crossed her arms, waiting to see what was in store.
Ashe knocked her fist on one of the glass panes twice. “Alright, Ty. Start it up!” She said eagerly.
The lights of the room instantly shut off and the murmurs died instantly. Peter could hear the sharp intake of breath as everyone was suddenly waiting very eagerly.
A voice rang out through the room.
“Everything is achievable through technology...”
Peter recognized the voice, he had heard it a few times.
Howard Stark.
Gasps rang out through the room because standing in the center of the room was Howard Stark. Or more accurate, a hologram of him. It stood there, looking around generically, but you couldn't help but feel like he was actually looking at you when his eyes happened to meet yours.
“Is that a hologram?”
“Isn’t that the founder?”
A bunch more hushed whispers echoed out, followed by an almost equal number of “shhhhh”.
Ned was gaping like a fish as he stared at the man in the old suit who walked forward, continuing to talk.
“Better living, robust health, and for the first time in human history, the possibility of world peace.”
He stopped and gently shoved his hands into his suit pockets. “I’m Howard Stark, and everything you’ll need in the future can be found right here.” He said with a sweeping motion of his arm.
As he did though the room <em>changed</em>.
One second they were standing in a dark room with a holographic dead founder talking to them, and the next there was a rush of light of colors from all around and suddenly they were standing in a fairground. Students gasped, talking in hush whispers as they looked around. Peter saw Betty even hesitantly reach out and touch the wall, which was still very much there, but it looked like she was touching an invisible wall in the park. Almost. There was just enough of a discrepancy that you could see the edge without stumbling face first into it accidentally. Peter guessed that had been a lesson learned the hard way, knowing the interns.
There were displays in every direction. There was a general ambiance of futurism, but it was anachronistic with the old visions of the future, incredibly outdated despite their best guesses of the time, being displayed by technology they couldn’t dream of. Displays of imaginary space suits, flying cars, toasters. Everything was in the distance as the world around them began to move across the ground, as if they were on a guided tour.
Everyone was still mostly rooted in place, and as if to lead them, Ashe walked across the room, mumbling a bit about watching out for the center kiosk, but went deliberately to look at a display from the far end of the wall. Peter followed her suit, just to encourage people as he walked across it too. It was a bit disorienting, with the world moving at it’s own pace while you walk. Kind of like those automated walkways at the airport, but not too jarring thankfully. Again, he figured it was probably a product of trial and error and an uncomfortable number of nauseous interns testing it.
Crowds bustled around them, phasing through people as the holograms were interrupted by the actual people in the room, even though Peter saw a student or two from their class hurriedly avoiding them muttering out apologies. Peter couldn’t blame them, it almost looked real.
He knew how disorienting it could be to be surrounded by illusions. Just like… him… whenever.. He fought…
Peter’s attention was snapped back to the present as Howard continued finally.
“From all of us at Stark Industries, I would like to personally thank you for visiting us. For your interest in helping shape the world into a better future.” For a few more moments they continued to float through the imagined space. Old music playing over a staticy sound system, girls in rather revealing outfits dancing and parading themselves around displays, all before it settled near the center of the area where Howard was once again standing there, smiling at them.
The world faded to black around them once more, and there were some groans of disappointment from the group as their apparent trip through time was cut short. Howard gave one last tip of his hat, before he faded.
There was a beat of silence.
Two.
Three.
“I’ve learned a great deal from my father, and clearly humility wasn’t one of them.” Tony Stark’s voice cut in as he suddenly walked forward, emerging from nothing and standing where Howard stood a moment ago.
Peter was almost tempted to reach out and touch him because it was strange seeing him so clearly there, but not at the same time. Peter knew it was a hologram, but he could have sworn it was real.
He raised his arms and a massive Arc Reactor, the old prototype emerged from the ground, large, and humming with energy. It dwarfed their size, and it felt surreal standing so close to it.
“The Arc Reactor was one of my first successes in his company, outside of our military contracts.” Tony said. He smiled at the group and it looked genuine.
It looked real.
Too real. Like he had seen before. Illusions. But they never stayed pleasant like this. Peter stepped back, bumping his back against the wall. This was dangerous. He couldn’t tell if it was his spider sense or anxiety that was now gripping the lower part of his neck. His heart began to beat much faster.
Too fast. Was he dying? Maybe. Was this real? He kept waiting for it to change like it always did. Tony would pull a gun on him. Or melt into spiders. Or get shot. Maybe the other avengers would show up to die painfully. Or attack him. Or each other. Peter’s fists were clenched tightly at his side and they started to shake.
Why wouldn’t he hurry the fuck up and kill Tony already. Peter didn’t have time for this. He didn’t want to see his mentor die again. He didn’t want to have to punch it just to make it go away. He just wanted to scream. He could see Tony’s lips moving, probably continuing the talk but Peter’s ears were ringing and he couldn’t hear anything. Why hadn’t the death come, was Myst-
MJ’s eyes filled his vision as she stepped directly in front of him. His eyes snapped to hers, and he felt her hand cup his cheek. It was warm. He swallowed thickly.
“R-real?” He asked shakily.
MJ’s eyes were focused, and God were they beautiful.
“Real.” She confirmed. “I’m right here, Tiger.” She whispered gently. She leaned in briefly, kissing him.
It was the strangest sensation, it was like he dropped from the sky back into his body. Everything snapped into place at the feeling of her lips briskly on his.
He could feel the pressure of her knee on the inside of his, one of her feet pressed against the inside heel of one of his as she had leaned into him. Her other hand gently holding his clenched fist as he forced it to relax and thread his fingers through hers. The sounds of Tony’s voice again.
“Under our new CEO, Pepper Potts, Stark Industries have moved on from our wartorn past and once again begun the long process of bringing tomorrow just a little bit closer.” Then the familiar sounds of “Shoot to Thrill” by ACDC started to echo throughout the room.
Peter’s eyes glanced around and saw most of the students now looking around as a new wide arrange of displays showed around them. Cindy had noticed him and had seemed a bit concerned, but saw MJ was handling him and went back to looking at the sights after a small smile. Ned also seemed worried, but Peter offered him a reassuring smile and a moment later Ned was next to Betty as they pointed at some Iron Man suits flying high above them.
Ashe had closed half the distance towards them, concern painting her features but he gave her a shaky thumbs up and she slowly nodded, stepping off to the side but clearly keeping an eye on him.
His eyes fell back on MJ’s, finding them still locked on his patiently, a warm, if not slightly concerned smile on her face.
“You’re okay. I’m right here.” She said softly, reaching up to move his hand under her neck to her pulse point, as he felt the steady throb of it. Life. Peter took a deep breath and slowly the panicked sensation in the back of his neck faded.
“T-thank you.” He said.
MJ still examined his face, no doubt reading past anything he could ever try to hide from her in the moment before she seemed satisfied and smiled. Giving him the briefest peck on the lips before stepping next to him again.
She dropped his hand, but reached over and slid hers under the back of his shirt, resting it directly on the base of his spine, her thumb making gentle strokes over it. A steady, warm, grounding presence. She was right here, and very <em>very</em> real.
Peter wrapped his now free arm around her waist and held her close as he took in the sights around them.
Now that all traces of his illusionist villain had been banished to the dark recesses of his mind, he had to admit it was pretty fucking awesome.
ACDC was blaring through the speakers, and everywhere you looked seemed like a technological dream.
High up in the sky various suits of Iron Man armor were flying everywhere, both in formations and freely, firing at targets as they were thrown up and blasting them into pieces that fell into glitter before vanishing.
Off to the side near Ned and Betty Peter saw a person waving at them, their entire arm made of a prosthesis that seemed to respond almost perfectly to their mind as it picked up and played with a coin dexterously.
On the other side there was a clean energy generator that powered a trail of lights before they erupted into a massive city streat, all being powered by the small glowing blue generator. Peter wasn’t sure if it was a bit of an exaggeration, but it accomplished its intended effect based on Abe's and Cindy’s reaction.
Tony was still standing in the center, looking impossibly smug as he looked around a bit randomly to catch eyes potentially.
Glancing over at MJ, he saw her attention had finally moved from him and he saw her mouth opened ever so slightly in awe as she looked at the scene closest to them. The sleek fairground around them that had been housing most of the other displays crumbled to dirt as they were suddenly staring out over a large patch of ground, surrounded by forests that seemed to stretch off for miles.
In the center of the clearing were a few robots that were transplanting sapling trees and some further down that were planting seeds.
There was some floating text giving statistics on successfully replanted trees and reforesting that had happened over the past ten years.
Peter looked back at MJ, her face being illuminated by the green as he saw the faintest traces of wonder in her eyes. An emotion he knew she felt as much as everyone else did, but hid from the world to keep herself safe. But seeing that look in her eyes, the smallest smile on her face, the way her eyes shifted to his and her smile grew even more, made his chest feel warm. He realized, there was nothing in this world he wouldn’t do for her. Nothing he wouldn’t do to see that smile every day for as long as he lived. He would move mountains for her if she asked.
He rested his forehead against hers for a moment, a serene oasis in the loud ACDC played. Eventually the music started to quiet down and everyone looked back to where Tony was still standing. Behind him an Iron Man suit landed in the hero pose, before it stood up and opened up, encasing Tony in it.
“Stark Industries is leading the world to the future. Try to keep up.” He said with one last smirk, before the helmet closed and he blasted off into the sky.
A second later and the regular lights slowly turned on as they were gradually reintroduced to the plain chamber as all the holograms powered down.
Everyone just sort of stood still, letting out a few deep breaths.
“Dude…” Abe said.
“That was…” Betty started.
“SO FUCKING AWESOME.” Jason said excitedly.
“Lonello!” Harrington snapped at the language, but seemed just as starstruck.
There was a loud eruption of conversations as people started gushing about the experience.
Ashe clearly leaned back, an almost maternal smile as she saw the excitement through the class and gave them a moment to process things.
Peter glanced over to MJ, and Ned and Betty who had joined them.
“Dude, that was insane!” Ned started out, practically shaking with how excited he was.
“I can’t even imagine how they did that.” Betty offered.
MJ smiled. “Yeah… that was pretty cool.” Everyone seemed a bit shocked by her honest confession, but no one was going to call her out on it. They knew she was working on being more open with others and the last thing they wanted to do was discourage her from it.
“Yeah, I’ve never seen this before. I knew they were working on it, even helped a bit, but it was nowhere near that… immersive.” He offered, hearing his own slight amazement and thankfully not  much of the fear that crept in.
He felt a slight increase of the pressure on his back. MJ’s face portrayed nothing, but it was a clear reminder.
<em>Im right here.</em>
He just squeezed her a little closer from his arm around her side.
“You worked on that?” Betty said, a little too loud of surprise.
The class looked over at Peter both surprised and a little skeptical.
He raised his free hand in a sort of peace gesture. “Not like… the actual holograms. They must have… God, I don’t even know the level of artists and programmers that took. I just meant more of the basic technology.”
MJ snorted. “Basic. Sure.”
Peter rolled his eyes, tickling her side ever so slightly making her squirm before she kicked his shin in retaliation. “You know what I mean. I worked with the other interns on the back end.” He offered. He didn’t want to go into detail about working directly with Tony on it, or how it worked because he <em>really</em> didn’t wanna spoil the magic of something so fantastical.
“Sure you did, Parker.” Flash said in disbelief. Before he could chime in with any more eloquent comments, Ashe clapped her hands together once.
“Well then! You seem to have remembered which way is up, so how about we move on to the rest of the tour? I promise you there’s still plenty to be amazed by.” She said as she ushered them to the opposite of where they entered where there were more flush doors in the wall.
She seemed to do a head count, before checking her tablet to verify that she did indeed not forget the number of people she was responsible, before she smiled and moved open the doors.
Once again, the students burst into an excited murmur.
There was a rather tall young man, sleeves rolled up on a simple blue dress shirt and jeans as he leaned against a little kiosk. He had shaggy black hair, and a calm smile as he watched the students.
But none of them were watching him because behind him it looked like an arcade from the future. It was a series of rooms, all displaying various holograms above the tables. Other machines littered the walls and the room was darker to allow the lights emitting from the machines to draw your eyes in even more. People stumbled forward a bit more, but none of them were willing to go past the man without permission.
Peter glanced over at Ashe as she was staring at the guy in surprise.
“Ashelyn.” He said simply, an almost smug look on his face as he raised an eyebrow.
“Tyler.” She replied professionally, but Peter could see the barely constrained snickers that both of them were trying to keep hidden.
MJ glanced between the two young adults before looking at Peter.
Peter just rolled his eyes. “You’ll see.”
The two young adults had locked eyes long enough and seemed to be having a silent discussion long enough for the incredibly impatient teenagers who were desperate to see the technological wonderland just out of their reach to feel a little awkward.
Peter cleared his throat a bit loudly and both Ashe and Tyler seemed to snap back to reality, the faintest hint of a blush on both of their cheeks.
“Welcome…”
“Midtown.” Ashe supplied helpfully.
Tyler shot her a grateful look. “Welcome, Midtown. I hope you enjoyed our little introduction. A bit of a step up from our old lecture, I would say?” He asked, waiting for a chorus of replies.
“Yes!”
“Incredible!”
“Fucking amazing!”
“Lonello...” Harrington’s voice sounded more tired this time.
Tyler just smiled at them. “I’m glad you enjoyed it. It has been the product of months of hard labor, and many technological breakthroughs from all across Stark Industries to achieve. My name is Tyler, and I am one of the floor managers of the R&D department, with a specialty in audio development, though my floor covers a bit broader range as well. I have volunteered to serve as your specialist to answer any tech related questions you may have, if any happen to be beyond Ashe’s understanding.”
Ashe snorted out a laugh at that. “I appreciate the confidence Fros- Tyler but you know I leave the technology to you labrats down here. I appreciate the new headphones you guys released last month, but the most I know about them is I’m pretty sure they have a speaker in them somewhere.”
There were a few laughs from the group at that and the lovestruck look Tyler gave her made Peter wonder if he was that obvious when he looked at MJ.
(He was.)
Cindy raised her hand.
“Yes?” Tyler asked, pointing at her patiently.
“Are the tours usually led by floor managers? You seem a bit… important. Not that we aren’t incredibly grateful!” She added quickly, embarrassment creeping in after her brain caught up to her curiosity.
Tyler shrugged, not bothered by the question. “Usually no, we have mid level interns give these tours to gain experience in presenting their work though we are always available to help them when needed. This is more of an… exception.” He offered, his eyes flickering over to Ashe  who was hiding her laugher behind her fist as she tried to suppress her giggles.
Peter laughed at that, apparently loud enough for Tyler’s eyes to lock onto his. He tilted his head slightly and Peter blushed. Oops. Busted.
“Pet-”
“Okay! How about we get started!” Ashe cut him off, giving him a look that apparently he understood to mean just follow her lead.
“Right! So, there are three rooms behind us, and you’re free to interact with any of the displays there. Unfortunately we do have to ask you to not use your phones in these areas. While you will be free to discuss anything you see here, some of the technology is new and patent pending, and we would prefer visuals of it not be released ahead of our schedule. I must insist that this rule is rather strictly enforced, and FRIDAY will be keeping a close eye out.” He said, his voice calm and even. “Right Fri?”
“That is correct, Tyler. Upon the exit of the third room in the back, you will be able to use your devices again. Feel free to silence any devices or respond before you pass the ropes up ahead, but we ask you not to attempt to film the area from here either.”
A couple of students pulled out their phone and silenced them just to prevent any temptation. Peter actually did that himself, because while he was pretty sure he was actually an exception to the rule, since he knew way more sensitive technology than this, he wasn’t exactly looking to prove a point and he had a habit of forgetting.
MJ, Ned, and Betty seemed to trust him and followed his lead.
“Now that the lame rules are out of the way, let me explain a bit more. Feel free to explore any of the machines up ahead. All of the holographic displays are interactable, and feel free to engage with them to your heart's content. Common sense rules apply here too. Don’t steal anything. Don’t break anything. Don’t run around.” He offered, raising an eyebrow. “Midtown is a reputable school, so behave but beyond that have fun and find me or Ashe if you have any questions.”
With that, he stepped aside and the students rushed in, spreading out to all corners of the first room as they started looking around and fiddling with things.
Ned and Betty went to the nearest display table and as Peter was about to lead MJ in, he felt a hand on his shoulder.
Turning, he saw Ashe looking at him with a concerned expression.
“Are you okay? I saw your reaction in the holodeck. I know it can be disorienting.”
Peter nodded, smiling as he felt MJ increase the pressure again. “Just… caught me off guard.”
Ashe nodded, fidgeting slightly. “I… wasn’t sure if I should have cut it off. I was about to head over and ask you…”
Peter shook his head quickly. “No! I’m glad you didn’t. It was incredible. I was fine.” He offered, even though the last bit was clearly a lie.
“It’s okay, that’s what I’m here for.” MJ chimed in, making Ashe laugh.
“Yeah, you did distract him pretty well. I must say.” A teasing lilt in Ashe’s tone. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen two people make out when surrounded by cutting edge hologram tech.”
Peter’s face flushed red and he buried his face into MJ’s shoulder. MJ just shrugged, hoping to hide her own embarrassment.
“Really? Cause I distinctly remember something similar.” Tyler’s voice chimed in, making everyone look at him as he reached out and squeezed Ashe’s hand.
Ashe flushed red and slapped his chest.
“Frosty! Shut up.” She muttered, glancing around.
MJ glanced at Peter, then the two.
Peter was just laughing at the sweet revenge. “They uh… know each other.” He offered, not sure how much to reveal about their personal life.
Ashe rolled her eyes, and held up her hand where there was an engagement ring on it.
“I see.” MJ said, smirking. “Explains why Peter’s boss is crashing our tour group.”
Tyler shrugged. ”Ashe normally works so far away.” He whined uncharacteristically for the calm man, earning an eye roll from Ashe. “Plus I’m not Peter’s boss. Kinda. Technically?”
Peter and Tyler both looked at each other, confused.
“I… don’t know.” Peter confessed as both boys seemed to ponder the problem.
“A well run organization, I see. Very cutting edge.” MJ offered and Ashe snorted a laugh at that.
Peter nudged her side. “I mean I work for Tony directly. But I also spend time helping out the other interns where I’m needed, or wherever Tony gets the impulse to send me that day. So some days he is? But like, Tony is his boss so I don’t know.”
Tyler just shrugged. “I listen to Tony, and you listen to me while you’re here, but I think that’s just because you’re nice. So as long as nothing gets messed up we can all just agree Pepper is the boss of all of us.”
Peter nodded. “Probably the safest bet.”
Ashe and MJ both shared a look. “Are all tech nerds this much of a mess?” MJ deadpanned.
Ashe just nodded. “Our sample size seems to suggest so. At least they’re cute.” She offered, kissing Tyler on the cheek.
MJ snickered. “True.” And squeezed Peter’s hand.
“You’re taking a field trip to your job?” Tyler asked Peter, an amused expression on his face.
Peter let out a sigh that made him feel years older. “Yeah. Cause my life is a joke. Don’t make it worse?” He asked hopefully.
Tyler nodded. “Trust me, I get it. I still tell people I just work in the labs in SI. Attention sucks.”
Ashe sighed but wrapped an arm around him. “Even if you deserve it.”
Tyler sighed with a small smile and stepped away. “I guess I should do my job and not keep flirting with you. That’s why they banned you from my Lab. They kept saying I get nothing done.” He said without a single regret in his tone. He turned and disappeared farther in.
Ashe just let out a dreamy sigh after him before her attention snapped back to Peter and MJ who were both judging her and snickering. She ushered them in. “Go be nerds.”
Peter let out a laugh and dragged MJ by the hand over to Ned and Betty as they fumbled with the controls to the holo display. Ned was waving his hands around it and made a display of the latest Stark Phone expand and shrink.
“Okay, that’s pretty cool.” MJ confessed as she hesitantly reached a hand out. Both Ned and Betty stepped back to let her interact with it for a moment.
Peter was surprised as MJ seemed to be a bit of a natural at interacting with it. Her intuition let her pick up the general motion controls as she was able to move it around naturally, and soon started to separate it into pieces. There weren’t specifics to protect trade secrets, but you could see the general parts. She paused to tie her hair up, because it kept getting in her face when she would move for a larger movement.
Eventually MJ noticed Peter staring at her with a strange smile and she paused, having disassembled and enlarged the camera part she was playing with. “What?” She asked, a hint of self consciousness leaking into her tone.
Peter just gave her a shy smile. “You’re in a lab, playing with tech like this. It’s uh… really hot.” He confessed in a quiet tone.
MJ felt her own face flush. “Oh my God, Peter. You’re such a nerd.” She mumbled out, but also filed that fact safely away for potential future use.
“Aww.” Ned said dramatically as he looked between them.
“That’s cute, but we really don’t need to know about your feti-” Betty was cut off as MJ interrupted, loudly.
“Okay! So what else is there?” She said, turning away from the table, the same time Peter, bright red spoke too.
“It’s not like that!” Peter looked about 30 seconds from running out of the room.
Ned and Betty shared a look, but let the subject drop. For now.
They wandered over to a nearby machine that wasn’t occupied by the classmates. “What is this?” MJ asked, walking up behind Peter and resting her chin on his shoulder.
Peter leaned his head against hers for a moment. “Surprisingly one of the most tame things here. It’s just a 3D printer. Just a lot faster and has more materials it can work with.
“But what can it print here?” Ned asked, brow furrowed.
Peter’s smile grew wider. “Oh, anything. You’re gonna love this.” He said before leading them to a nearby table. Clicking to the right program, MJ raised an eyebrow. “Is that photoshop?”
Peter shrugged, already deep in work mode. “Kinda. It’s a 3D modelling software we developed. But it’s a bit more interactive.”
Peter reached out towards and area of the holographic display and a clump of a material digitally appeared in his hand. He began to squash and stretch it, occasionally adding more.
“See, you can copy and paste if you make this motion…” he mumbled out to them as they stepped back and watched him work with a fascination. A few other of his classmates even wandered over, starting to watch Peter work. Peter however, was too deep in thought as he worked on bringing the thought he had to life and MJ and Ned knew better than to try and snap him out of his zone.
“You can change the material here. The program is also smart, so if you’re trying to select a part of it it will generally help you get what you need.” He said as he enlarged the form and with two fingers held together started to select the top part of it, before cycling through a few different materials and dragging it onto it as the form changed into a clear plastic.
“Dude… is that?” Ned asked as Peter just grinned.
“You are <em>such</em> a nerd.” MJ repeated, overly fond as she watched Peter put on some minor details.
Shrinking it down a bit, Peter swiped his hand as the whole form began rotating a few times, showing off the final result.
“It’s just a quick mockup to show you what you can do here. I didn’t really dig into details but I could have taken off the glass and added the seats to it. I also could have made the form hollow if I wanted to include some kind of engine in this, but I really only have a few minutes. But I know the X-wing is your favorite Ned so I thought I’d just…”
Peter trailed off as he owlishly blinked at the group of students who were all staring at his floating model of the X-Wing from star wars that he had just sculpted out roughly. “Uh… hi guys.” He muttered out. “When did…”
“Dude, you’ve been in your own world for like 10 minutes.” Ned said, nudging him, but still staring at the X-Wing.
“Peter, how do you know how to do this so well?” Cindy asked, tilting her head as she watched the model rotate slowly still.
Peter shrugged, a blush creeping up on his face. “I told you, I intern here. We uh… use this to help make mock-ups. It’s good for playing with visuals.”
“It’s true.” Tyler’s cool voice cut in, making the class turn to see him standing there, hands in pockets as he smiled. “Peter is correct. It’s often useful to have a visual model handy when either pitching an idea, or to help generate ideas because keeping things purely theoretical can get in the way of finding obvious solutions sometimes.”
The class nodded with murmurs of agreement.
“Peter, the machine is fully stocked so feel free to print it off. Does anyone else want to try as well?” A bunch of hands shot up and Tyler nodded, glancing around. One of the displays of the Stark Tablet was pretty much empty so he walked over, typing in a password and switched the program to be another display of the modelling program to allow more people to mess around with it at once.
“I’ll set it up over here as well. You will need to take turns with the printer, but feel free to print off a model if you want. Please be reasonable about the size though, due to time and costs.”
Peter quickly sent the print request to the machine as he stepped back, saving his project with a quick override for later use just in case, then brought up some blank models for people to try out. His cheeks were still flushed as he went over and collected the model, handing it to Ned as he watched Betty starting to sculpt a sort of old fashioned camera.
“Dude! That’s incredible!” Ned marveled as he held up the mini ship, flying it through the air.
“That was pretty cool, Peter.” Cindy confirmed as Peter could only nod, flustering under the praise.
Tyler bounced between the people at the nearby tables, answering questions and helping them get comfortable with the program and soon most people had printed off little figurines. He saw MJ waiting on something, but she had told him to leave when he tried to see what she was working on, saying it was a surprise so he had settled for showing Ned and Betty some of the other nearby machines, various displays and robotics. It took all of his will power not to peak at whatever MJ had been working on.
Eventually though he saw Flash had taken her place and she was standing near the printer, waiting for the result. He wandered over while Ned and Betty were taking photos with a camera that hovered in place
“What did you make?” Peter asked, his tone a little more whinier than he had planned. He couldn’t help it though, the curiosity was killing him.
She just rolled her eyes and patted his head patronizingly. “Soon.”
Peter harrumphed and crossed his arms.
“Hey, Penis!” Flash called out, and letting out a sigh, Peter turned slowly.
“Really, Flash?” He asked, glancing over at Ashe who was frowning at Flash and whispering something to Tyler. Welp, that probably wasn’t good.
“Just wanted to show you what an actual good design looks like, unlike your stupid spaceship.” He said smugly as he enlarged his design and spun it around. It was… a suit of Iron Man armor. Kinda. Almost.
The proportions were way off, and it was almost aggressively lumpy despite the many smoothing tools available. Still, Peter figured it wasn’t the <em>worst</em> he’s seen.
“Real cool, Flash.” He offered, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
Flash just sent him a smile as if he had been genuine. “You should pass it to Mr. Stark.” His voice said almost impressively condescending. “I made some cool changes I think he’d like.”
Peter glanced over it and grimaced slightly. He thought it would be cool to have a sort of back panel that looked kinda cool, but also dramatically limited the motion of the arms, which was not something Tony could do without. It also had enough solid panels wrapping around the body to prevent any easy access in and out of the suit.
“Sure, I’ll do that.” Peter muttered as Flash highfived with his friends, as if he had put Peter in his place.
His eyes flickered over to Ashe, who was not looking happy and even Tyler had a frown on his face now.
“I gotta print this.” Flash said as he went to print it, only to see the queue. Frowning, he moved his to the top, cancelling the print in progress, which also deleted it.
“Flash! What the fuck!” Cindy said, whirling around, fists clenched.
“Oh shit.” Flash muttered, not realizing he had canceled it.
“What happened?” Tyler asked as he approached, Harrington showing up as well.
“He canceled my print and now it’s gone!” Cindy said, a layer of hurt under her anger.
Tyler’s brow furrowed. “Is this true?”
Flash looked a bit pale. “I was just trying to make sure mine got printed before we ran out of stuff.”
Cindy was trying to navigate the holotable. “I can’t find it… My spider.” She said, her voice dropping into a hint of heartbreak.
“Flash, that is not okay.” Mr. Harrington started to scold Flash who only looked mildly bothered by it.
MJ and Betty moved over to Cindy, consoling her as she pouted and glared at Flash.
Peter locked eyes with Tyler as they approached the table. “I think it got deleted as more people started working on their projects.” Tyler said as he searched all open files.
Peter frowned, crossing his arms. He glanced over at Cindy as she looked at him with hopeful eyes, as if he could save her. MJ gave him a look expectantly. Like she had absolute faith in him to solve this problem. He felt a warmth in his chest and turned back.
“Tyler, do these still have the same programs we use? Just in a display mode or something?”
Tyler nodded. “Yeah, these weren’t made specifically for this, we just locked out access to some of the features since the public would be using it. Why?” He asked, trying to figure out what Peter had realized.
Peter nodded. “Which means, they would have the same protocols, right?”
Tyler’s eyes widened, catching up. “It would.” He paused. “But this isn’t technically my department. I’m kinda crashing here to help out. I don’t know if I have access.”
Peter frowned, that was a good point. Depending on who set the restrictions, they could either out rank Tyler, or be at the same level. Still, there was someone above them all.
“Hey, Fri?” Peter asked.
“Yes, Peter. How can I help?” The voice came from the table in front of them, making some of the nearby students jump.
“This table still has all the normal protocols active, even if locked off, right?”
“That is correct.”
“Can you run one for us, please?”
“I’d need to override the access.”
“Ask Mr. Stark for permission, please.”
There was a moment of silence.
“Do you seriously think you can just ask favors from Iron man, Peter? Just because you intern here?” Flash asked, as if he was embarrassed for Peter and looked apologetically to Tyler and Ashe. The audacity of him.
“Please check your phone, Peter.” Fri chimed in after a moment.
Peter looked to Tyler, and Tyler just shrugged. They both knew he actually had permission too, but he was trying to make it less of a show about wielding his privilege around here.
Pulling out his phone, he saw a text from Tony.
<em>Fri requested an override. Pretty sure you can do that on your own. Everything OK?</em>
Peter responded quickly.
<em>Yeah. Just need to run a protocol to help a classmate. Trying not to be obvious about what I can do.
Lame, if you got it, flaunt it.
So is that a yes?
Yeah, just try not to give away company secrets or something.</em>
Peter snorted out a laugh, earning an amused look from MJ. He passed her his phone while he turned back to the table.
“What Protocol would you like to run, Peter?” Fri asked.
“Run ‘Shit, I should probably sleep’ please.”
Everyone except for Tyler looked at him confused.
“Pulling up temporary back-ups now.” A few people understood and laughed.
Tyler just grinned. “This isn’t the first time we’ve had to try and recover unsaved work. Thankfully we keep a temporary back-up of everything now.”
“That’s because your department is held together by caffeine, stubbornness, and concerned loved ones who are the only reason you guys ever eat and sleep.” Ashe chimed in happily.
Tyler rolled his eyes but didn’t offer any protest. Peter really couldn’t say anything either. Tony might be the worst of them all, but that didn’t mean the rest were particularly great at holding back when they felt inspired. Overtime wasn’t encouraged and actually discouraged because of that.
“Can you find a spider model from the past hour?”
“Right away.” Fri offered as the screen displayed various files being scanned through quickly.
Eventually a model popped up. “Is this it, Cindy?” Peter asked.
“Yes!” Cindy said, throwing her arms around Peter in a quick hug. Peter just grinned and returned the hug quickly, glancing at MJ who was giving him a proud smile.
Flash was holding the model he printed out as if it was worth it’s weight in gold. Peter quickly moved Cindy’s order to the top of the list and it began printing.
“Thank you Fri.” Peter offered as the program went back to its default state.
“My pleasure, Peter. Glad to be of help.”
There were some murmurs and people looking at Peter. He started to squirm a bit, not a huge fan of the attention he just drew to himself, but the look on Cindy’s face was worth it. He knew how devastating it was to lose something you worked on and were excited about, even if it was a smaller project.
MJ, sensing his distress, grabbed his hand and led him towards the second room of the area. “Come on, let’s explore more.” She offered and Peter just let her drag him along.
The next area was a bit similar to the last one. More tables with displays, but no printing machines around. Instead there were rough displays of a bunch of Avenger’s tech everywhere. No specifics were available, but there were a bunch of costumes you could look at different parts of, pull apart, mix and match.
Ned promptly freaked the fuck out and ran over to one of the tables with the shortest line. Betty, MJ, and him followed shortly behind. Peter watched him swipe through a bunch of different armors quickly, gasping with each one.
Peter turned to MJ, seeing her watching Cindy hold up the spider proudly.
“You’re a nice guy.” MJ said, finally looking back at Peter.
Peter shrugged. “I know how much it sucks to lose a project.”
MJ rolled her eyes. “That’s not what I mean. You wanted to avoid drawing any attention to yourself during this trip, but the second a classmate lost a project they worked on for a couple of minutes, you contacted Tony to ask for his help.”
Peter was lost in her smile for a moment. “I mean… I could have used my override, but I was trying to act like just an intern.”
MJ nodded. “And if Tony ignored the request you would override it yourself. I know you would have.”
She was right. Peter just shrugged. “What did you make anyway?”
MJ pursed her lips, as if debating telling him. “I was gonna keep it a surprise till later but you deserve a treat for that.” She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small figure. It was a cartoonish looking spiderman, complete with him posing in his thwip motion. It was tiny, about the size of a keychain, but surprisingly well made and accurate to this usual suit.
MJ felt her heart fluttered as she saw his expression. His brown eyes had gone wide as she held up the dumb little figure she made. His eyes kept flicking between hers and the figure as he practically glowed with happiness. It was really unfair that such a little gesture could make her boyfriend look so adorable.
MJ knew Spider-man meant the world to him, and that he was always afraid she’d hate it because of the drama it brought into their lives. But MJ was so proud of him, and while she wasn’t one to overly brag, heaven forbid he get Tony’s arrogance, she did think the world of him for doing it.
So if she could make his day by making a little trinket, she’d make them for the rest of her life.
Peter just leaned forward and kissed her quickly, knowing they had probably already shown more PDA than they usually would but he couldn’t help it. “You’re incredible.”
MJ scoffed. “It’s not that well done. It was quick.”
Shaking his head, Peter still met her eyes. “That’s not what I meant. I meant you. All of you. That too, but you.”
MJ blushed and turned her head, unable to handle the compliments. She just pocketed the figurine for safety before taking his hand and turned them back to where Betty was examining Black Widow’s outfit.
“These Widow Bites are pretty sweet.”
Peter nodded. “They’re terrifying.”
MJ laughed. “Spider-man should get some then. Maybe she’d lend him one then, they have to spider pals or something.” She offered a teasing glance at Peter.
Peter knew MJ knew he was friends with Natasha. She also knew Nat would never let him try them out, because that was a horrible idea that would end up with probably at least two different people hurt.
Betty stepped back and Peter thought for a moment. “What, like spider fangs?” Then he paused. “Actually…” He suddenly pulled up both the suits for Spider-man and Black Widow. The suits were old and out of date, but he just wanted to test an idea so it didn’t matter.
He quickly grabbed a widow bite and enlarged it, tossing away most of the arm mount, and flicking away different launchers from it till only a few remained.
“Now pull up the web shooters.” Peter asked the holotable as they flicked up. He tossed away some of the other features on the suit. “Actually, bring up a repulsor too.” He muttered as he started stripping away parts from it to just have the glove.
MJ watched in admiration as she saw Peter in his natural habitat. Even more so than when he was sculpting, this was him at his best. She saw how tall he stood, his eyes focused but his face in a bright smile. She could practically hear the hum of the gears in his head as he gracefully navigated the menu, pulling apart holograms and attaching them with ease to form something new. He looked confident and in his element and she felt her face flush.
“I kinda get why he found it hot now.” MJ muttered to Betty quietly.
Betty laughed and just patted her shoulder. “You two were made for each other.”
MJ rolled her eyes, but Peter was waving her over. He had the hologram in his hands, but made her stick her arm out. He moved it so now the hologram was floating around her arm. It was a simple gauntlet, with the web shooters underneath but two widowbites on top as he rambled about the possibility of webbing someone up then being to launch a taser at them without electrifying the whole web necessarily.
“It’d look cooler if it was black with red highlights…” She offered and soon they were going back and forth as she posted with the holo weapon while Peter tweaked it to her suggestions.
“Hey Fri, take some pictures please.” Ashe said as she leaned against the wall near Ned and Betty.
MJ and Peter were too busy laughing with each other and playing around to notice.
“Are they always this adorable?” Ashe asked.
Ned nodded. “Yeah it’s kinda gross.” He said fondly.
Betty sighed. “It’s better since they actually asked each other out. They danced around each other for ages, it was torture to watch. We were about to lock them in the broom closet until they got together. We had made plans for it too.”
Ashe laughed and watched them fondly. She had met Peter a few times through Pepper, and seen him in the lab with Tony whenever she had been sent over there with some work for him. Peter seemed like a good kid and reminded her of her fiance when he was younger. She was glad Peter had found someone that brought out a smile like that from him. He was always smiling, but that one was different. Warmer, somehow.
Eventually the two teens seemed to realize they were getting carried away and they stepped back from the holotable to let others have a chance.
“What?” Peter asked, tilting his head.
Ashe just pulled out her phone and showed them a picture Friday had sent her.
MJ had her hand outstretched with a faint blue glow around it as the weapon hovered over her arm, Peter attaching another widow bite to it. They were looking at each other, Peter grinning while MJ had a deep warm smile.
Both of the teens blushed and didn’t say anything, but held each other’s hands.
“Fri, send that to Peter. That deserves to be printed out.”
Peter blushed more, but nodded. It was an amazing photo.
“Right away, Ashe.” Fri said. “I have cleared it of any sensitive information as well, so might I recommend adding it to your social media.”
“Thanks Fri.” Peter mumbled, blushing even more.
MJ just laughed and squeezed his hand tighter. “I needed a new screensaver anyway.”
Eventually the group made their way to the third room and everyone’s jaw dropped except for Peter. “I was waiting for this.”

My Reaction to “Avengers Endgame”
Yes- I still haven’t seen this movie.  Yes I know exactly what happens in this movie.  I mainly avoided it for a while due to overhype but with some convincing from my brother, Imma sit my butt down and try to watch this.
Pressing... play!
Right off the bat, I feel like I should warn you guys and say that I have... my opinions... about stuff.  Plus I’m a dumbass about Marvel so just bear with me.
I like that Disney Plus has to warn us about product placement
Clint!
Are we gonna see little Nathaniel running around- THERE he is!
We are gonna see Clint’s entire family get freaking obliterated
Is all the rumbling from the sky or are those airplanes freaking crashing to Earth in the distance?
What if they pulled a reverse WandaVision and showed the people getting snapped out of existence in a future film or show?  That would be freaking terrifying.
They’re [Tony and Nebula] playing paper football...
I wanna see more of THEIR interactions aboard the Milano.  The shots of them just repairing the ship are great too.
“I’m fine.  Totally fine.”  Everyone ever.
I also like you see the visual difference between Tony and Nebula.  While he’s growing gaunt and haggard from loss of oxygen, you can still see that Nebula looks absolutely fine because she’s like 75% android
So between 1995 and now, what the heck has Carol been up to?
“Thanos wiped out... 50% of all living creatures.”  So like entire ecosystems are just demolished.
*anthropology major part of my brain scrambling for answers*
“We lost.  And you [Steve] weren’t there.”  HE WAS IN WAKANDA!
Wait so the arc reactor ISN’T in Tony’s chest anymore?
“Where the hell have you [Carol] been all this time?”  Good question!
*silently bops to opening theme*
For some reason, I just really want the ship radio to randomly turn on so you just see everyone sitting awkwardly as “Piano Man” plays over the speakers
*Thanos slowly cooks his food*  Faster, all together now!  COOKING CAN BE FUN!
“I [Thanos] used the stones to destroy the stones.”  ...what?
“I am...[Thanos] inevitable.”  *starts humming “Inevitable” from TGWDLM*
“I [Thor] went for the head.”  YES YOU DID
[FIVE YEARS LATER] All righty so we’re doing this
*gasps*  Is... Steve running the therapy sit downs like Sam did in “The Winter Soldier”?  That’s awesome.  I really like this tidbit.
I’m also really liking Alan Silvestri’s score for this so far
I’m really trying not to nitpick but I feel like it would take more than 5 years for greenery to just completely overtake a suburban neighborhood
Also wow pre COVID life looks great you guys
“There’s a part of me that doesn’t even wanna find him.”  Are they talking about... Clint?  Is Clint just going the full vigilante route?
DOES HE KILL PEOPLE?!?
I really like Steve and Natasha’s friendship in these movies but for some reason I don’t feel like we get enough of Natasha for me to get behind her on an emotional standpoint
Are they gonna use the quantum realm to jumpstart the multiverse for Phase 4?
Also speaking of multiverse, I honestly really don’t want Spiderman:  No Way Home or Wandavision to get too cluttered by that
I like Tony’s lake house.  And he got a whole vegetable garden going too.  Kudos!
The little kid who plays Morgan Stark is adorable
“Not if we strictly follow the rules of time travel.”  Which we obviously won’t.
“We’re gonna need a really big brain.”  So where the [expletive] is Banner?
“Stranger danger.”  *snorts*
“Dab!”  *rolls eyes*
So is the whole Professor Hulk thing permanent?  I know he’s gonna be in the She-Hulk show but I’m wondering how they’re gonna tackle that.  And they’re gonna have Tim Roth too!
*smiles when Tony takes Morgan to bed*
Steve Rogers here [when they do the first time travel tests] is a Look ™
Maybe don’t let the GIANT GREEN MAN keep pressing a bunch of tiny tiny important buttons on a dashboard
*laughs at Steve shaking his head in disbelief when they finally bring Scott back*
*Tony’s car races toward the Avengers base*  NYOOOMMMM
*Tony rolls down his window*  It’s Britney, bitch
“And maybe not die trying.”  And you definitely will.
This whole bit where Scott keeps losing his dorito only to get another one from Bruce feels like a Doritos commercial.
*jams out to "Supersonic Rocket Ship by The Kinks*
Did they just keep reducing the green pigment for Hulk or what?
*sighs when they reveal Fat!Thor*
MIEK’S ALIVE!
Please tell me Noobmaster69 is Kid Loki, whom we meet in the Loki series
“Don’t... say that name.”  “Yeah we actually don’t say that name here.”  I like this.  I like that Thor has so much resentment for killing Thanos at the wrong time and that he felt that could have done better cause he’s A GOD.  So the fact that THANOS was on equal level and BEAT HIM-
Hawkeye’s killing people
This sword fight’s great [between the Yakuza person and Clint]
WHY DIDN’T THEY BUILD ON THIS [Clint and Natasha’s connection] ???
*laughs when Rhodey suggests killing baby Thanos*
These shots of Clint going through the Quantum Realm looks like something straight out of Andy Park’s concept art and that’s awesome
“Well I [Scott] haven’t [encountered an Infinity Stone] but I don’t even know what the hell you’re all talking about.”  *snorts*
“The Aether, firstly, is not a stone.”  Thank you!
The little glance Nebula gives after Thor mentions the Dark Elves just make me think that somewhere down the road, she has either A) encountered them or B) has encountered other Asgardians besides Thor
“Guys if you pick the right year, there are three stones in New York.”  “Shut the front door.”  *laughs*
Also underrated trio:  Steve, Natasha, and Bruce.  Gimme more.
Wait a minute, in 2012, Doctor Strange wasn’t active yet.  So are they gonna go see- OOOOOOOHHHHHH
[NEW YORK 2012] Oh here we go
*cracks up when Bruce very half-assedly smashes stuff on the street*
“I’m looking for Doctor Strange.”  “You’re about five years too early.”  Wait a minute.
HOW DOES SHE [the Ancient One] KNOW?!?
*giggles at Thor and Rocket sneaking in the background with a bored Loki in focus*
“That’s my [Thor’s] mother.  She dies today.”  I love this scene already.
Also WHY IS THOR- or the Thor films in general- have like the most well written characters in the whole canon?
It’s those movies, Guardians 2, The Winter Soldier, Civil War, aaand.... I can’t think of any more of them.
Oh yeah and WANDAVISION cause THAT HIT ME LIKE A TRUCK-
Rocket just said he thinks of the Guardians as his family I’m gonna die...
What about their [Natasha and Rhodey’s] friendship?!?  I want more of that!
“Ronan’s obsession... clouds his judgment.”  ...HUH
*Thanos uses his sword to lift up Nebula’s chin*  Aw heck no
“As far as I’m concerned, that’s America’s ass.”  *has to take a second before nodding in agreement*
Wait is that Jasper Stillwell?
“Flick me.”  That bit alone could be taken out of context
“We’re in route to Doctor List.”  Who’s Doctor List?  Is that a code name?
“Hail Hydra.”  THE BASTARDS WENT AND DID IT
Please tell me this hand off scene is gonna be the opening for the Loki show.  Please tell me this is gonna happen.
*Loki takes the Tesseract again*  AND HE’S GOOONNNEE!!
LET’S GET TO FREAKING JUNE ALREADY!
*ends up quoting “Yeah, I know, I know” along with Steve*
I’m really glad Tilda Swinton actually came back for this cameo
*keeps slapping my laptop screen when people keep saying Doctor Strange made a mistake when it was an explicit point in Infinity War where he encountered 14 million other AUs to find the best result*
Are you telling me that this whole plan could derail because Nebula accidentally hacked into her own WiFI network?  Are you seriously doing this?
*Thanos and Ebony Maw scan Nebula’s duplicate memory bank and track her down*  Are you freaking kidding me?
...I have 96 minutes left?!?
“The future hasn’t been kind to you [Thor], has it?”  Frigga is underrated
So for these shots with Jane, are they just reusing different shots from Thor 2 or just footage from deleted scenes?
Can we talk about how Frigga is absolutely the best parent Thor has?  Meanwhile her husband ODIN is like “oh yeah by the way you have a secret sister totes magotes i’ll die now byeeee”
*sings along with “Come and Get Your Love” by Redbone*
*laughs when we cut to Quill just very badly singing along to his iPod in the distance*
I want a bonus short with just Rhodey and Nebula doing their thing
*Nebula gets her memory taken over by 2014 Thanos*  Nooooooo...
Are the glasses that Tony wears here part of EDITH from “Far From Home” or are they like a prototype?
Also I haven’t seen “Far From Home” yet because Sony hates me
Doctor Zola?!?
*jams out to the music playing when we see Hank Pym’s lab*
“A little girl would be nice.  Less of a chance that she’ll end up exactly like me [Howard Stark].”  *gasps softly*
Oh my God, he’s [Steve] in Peggy’s office
Alan Silvestri is really killing it with this score
JARVIS!!
Wait and that’s the guy from “Agent Carter”!
Ohhh that shot’s [of Thanos’s ship coming out of the clouds] awesome...
*2014 Nebula hands Thanos the Pym particles*  Oh are you kidding me...
The CGI for Red Skull is also awesome
*gasps when Natasha reveals that she never knew her dad’s name when Red Skull told it to her*
*is super bummed out when Natasha sacrifices herself*
Kevin Feige really went and said “so Phases 3 and 4 are gonna make everybody cry” and the writers went “YES”
Wait doesn’t Cap go and return the stones at the end of the movie?  How’s he gonna handle meeting Red Skull on Vormir then?
“It’s like... I [Bruce] was made for this.”  Please someone get Mark Ruffalo his own Hulk movie before he combusts from giving out more spoilers
So Thanos used the Pym particles to time travel then.  Honestly that’s kinda genius
I just noticed that Scott shrank himself right as the explosion hit the windows
I really want someone to just drop one F-bomb somewhere in the MCU and I really hope it’s Clint because he would 100% say it
*starts singing “Hollaback Girl” when Thanos arrives*
Here’s my question;  how did Thanos acquire Nebula then?  With Gamora, it was with the genocide of her people.
“We [Gamora to Nebula] can stop him.”  LET’S GO!
[Thor uses his storm powers to summon both Stormbreaker and Mjolnir] *softly* Ohhhhh that’s badass...
Now I’m just imagining the cast just in the green screen room just hitting Josh Brolin with a bunch of foam weapons and making all the sound effects while poor Josh is just struggling under the weight of the Thanos reference head on his mocap suit
Who does the voice for FRIDAY?
AN:  Irish actress named Kerry Condon
*Steve deems himself worth to wield Mjolnir*  OKKAAYY OKAAYY
Love how Thanos is like “yes, I’m gonna stab you with an AXE”
“In all my years of conquest...”  Steve you suuuucckkk...
Are we getting the Chitauri again?
“On your left.”  *laughs incredulously*  O-ohhh my God...
*Everyone starts coming out of the portals*  Oh my God I’m getting chills
I would have lost my mind in the theater
I HAVE ACTUAL GOOSEBUMPS RUNNING ALL OVER ME.  This is how good this is
WAIT ARE THOSE THE RAVAGER SHIPS ABOVE THEM?!?
“Avengers... assemble.”  Oh my God this is amazing!
M’BAKU!
Also “Endgame” really just said “We are KILLING FOOLS TODAY”
How are they gonna tackle Peter and Gamora’s relationship in Guardians 3?
[Horn plays La Cucaracha] LET’S GO
God I’m gonna turn feral
*has to pause to scream in excitement when Wanda touches down in front of Thanos to fight him*
*puts hands on head*  OHH MY GOOOOODDDDD
They’re literally just playing Keep Away with a teenage boy.  Marvel, everybody.
*Captain Marvel destroys Thanos’s ship*  WELL IT TOOK YOU LONG ENOUGH
OK I got mixed feelings about that [the girl power team up scene]
*Thanos unsuccessfully headbutts Carol*  Oh shit!
*Doctor Strange holds up one finger*  Oh my God this is it
Someone definitely tore off when Thanos pushed Tony off
It was in that moment he [Thanos] knew- he effed up
*All of Thanos’s army dissipates*  Byeee...
Is it bad that I’m not crying at Tony’s death?
*gasps when Peter reunites with Ned at school*
Wait the whole time heist takes place within ONE DAY?
“I love you 3000.”  I really hope we see Morgan again somewhere in one of the movies or shows.  Actually a cool way to reincorporate her would be in the Ironheart series whenever they make it
Even Drax is wearing black!
It’s the “We should be getting therapy but we got a TV show instead” trio [Wanda, Bucky, and Sam]
Wait is that guy- was that guy- the little kid from Iron Man 3?
AN:  Yes
So right after this funeral, Wanda’s gonna storm SWORD right?
AN:  This was finished up on 2/26 so probably YES
*Thor crowns Valkyrie the new leader of New Asgard*  I now cannot wait for “Thor Love and Thunder”
Wait Peter’s looking for Gamora!
Still cannot believe that the time travel suits are completely CGI
I know they had a body double for Chris Evans here but I do think it would have been cool if they used the body double’s voice for Old Steve instead of Chris trying to sound old
He [Steve] put the shield in an art portfolio bag...
*says “No, no I don’t think I will” along with Steve*
*silently jams out to “It’s Been a Long, Long Time” playing during the credits*
Wait and that was the song Fury was playing in “Winter Soldier”
Oh they even got the actual signatures!  That’s awesome!

Tumblr media
At night, a slum in India it attacked by a sickness. A little girl runs into the middle of a makeshift hospital in someone's home, pushing through the crowd frantically. She runs up the steps inside to greet the only doctor, Bruce Banner.
“What are you doing here?! Get out! You shouldn't be here.”  The Women scolded.
“I have to see the doctor. It's my father.” The little Girl explained.
“Calm down. What's wrong?” Bruce Asked.
“My father...” she looks to the other sick people, laying down and moaning in pain.
“Is he like them?” Bruce wondered.
The little girl holds out money, crumpled and looking desperate. “Please.”
Banner and the little girl run quickly to the edge of town. She leads him quickly through narrow passageways, and is proving too fast to keep up with. Banner spots a nice car, and looks around, worried. He runs into the girls house, when she leaves through a window, untraceable.
“Should have gotten paid up front, Banner.” Bruce scoffed.
Natasha entering the room behind him, making Banner turn around. “You know, for a man who's supposed to be avoiding stress, you picked a hell of a place to settle.”
“Avoiding stress isn't the secret.” Bruce started.
“Then, what is it? Yoga?” Natasha said sounding unduly curious.
“You brought me to the edge of the city, smart. I uh... assume the whole place is surrounded?” Bruce wondered.
“Just you and me.” Natasha say trying to convince Bruce.
“And your actress buddy, is she a spy too? Do they start that young?” Bruce  wondered.
“I did.”
“Who are you?”
“Natasha Romanoff.”
“Are you here to kill me, Miss Romanoff? Because that's not gonna work out for everyone.” Bruce explained.
“No. No. Of course not. I'm here on behalf of Shield.” Natasha replied
“Shield. How did they find me?” Bruce questioned.
“We never lost you, doctor. We've kept our distance, even helped keep some other interested parties off your scent.”
“Why?”
“Nick Fury seems to trust you. But now I need you to come in.”
“What if I said no?” Bruce stated.
“I'll persuade you.” Natasha said in a voice soft.
“And what if the... other guy says no?” Bruce said uncertainly
“You’ve been more than a year without an incident. I don't think you wanna break that streak.” Natasha replied.
Bruce gently pushing a cradle. “I don't always get what I want.”
“Doctor, we're facing a potential global catastrophe.” Natasha commented.
“Well, those I actively try to avoid.” Bruce mumbled.
“This is the Tesseract. It has the potential energy to wipe out the planet.” She shows him a photo of the Tesseract on her cell phone. Banner takes a closer look.
“What does Fury want me to do? Swallow it? Bruce said in a sarcastic voice.
“Well, he wants you to find it. It's been taken. It emits a gamma signature that's too weak for us to trace. There's no one that knows gamma radiation like you do. If there was, that's where I'd be.” Natasha explained.
“So Fury isn't after the monster? Bruce hesitated.
“Not that he's told me.” Natasha replied.
“And he tells you everything?” Bruce queried
“Talk to Fury, he needs you on this.”
“He needs me in a cage?”
“No one's gonna put you in a...”
“STOP LYING TO ME!” Banner slams his fists onto the table.
Natasha grabs a gun hidden under the table, pointing it at him. Banner stays still, grinning.
“I'm sorry, that was mean. I just wanted to see what you'd do. Why don't we do this the easy way, where you don't use that, and the other guy doesn't make a mess? Okay? Natasha...”
Natasha, still wary, doesn't lower her gun. She lowers her gun and speaks into her earpiece.
“Stand down. We're good here.”
Dozens of soldiers armed to the teeth have surrounded the small house, but at her signal they back off a bit.
Bruce smiles back at Natasha. “Just you and me?”

This isn’t real that’s all Y/n could think about as she walked home. The rain hammered against the roof of a nerdy houses, thunder rumbled as The dark sky was lit up by lightning flashing across. All she wanted to do was believe that Magneto was lying but she knew he was telling the truth. She knew it her mother is alive, has been this entire time.
Get it under control calm down. Come on remember what Gambit said “don’t let it control you you control it.”
Y/n was slowly starting to lose control. She was starting to hear what everyone around her was thinking and then Y/n starts to hear a ringing noise. Can deal with a sound Y/n place her hands around her head in a way to stop the voices.
“Excuse me, Miss are you alright?” Someone asked Y/n as he gently grab her on the shoulders.
Y/n looks up to the person in front of her and see red eyes. “Remy?”
“Is that someone I can call for you?” The man that looks like Remy asked.
Y/n finally comes to she realizes that the man in front of her is not with me not even trying to hide her disappointment she nods no, then walks away then her phone begins to ringing and vibrate in her pocket. She fishes her phone out of her pocket and then pushes answer.
“Hello?”
“Where are you because I know you’re not in Sydney, Australia.” Said Coulson.
“Walking home.” Y/n answered  honestly. “Why?”
“There’s someone I need you to pick up tomorrow. Is that some thing you can do?” Coulson voiced.
“I’ll be bright eyed and bushy tail.” Y/n said Tightly.
“I’ll send you all the information.”  Coulson replied. “Is something wrong?”
“You’re supposed to ask questions because I’m an agent and you’re my superior officer.” Y/n said in a dry tone.
“I’m asking this question as a person who’ve known you since you were ten.” Coulson replied.
“No it’s not.” Y/n answered. “But um..I’m gonna go home and watch some Y/t until I fall asleep.”
“Ok i’ll see you tomorrow.”
Y/n hangs up the phone.

Inside a Shield analytical room, filled with monitors of partially silhouetted people. Fury stands in the middle, frowning. They make up the World Security Council.
“This is out of line, Director. You're dealing with forces you can't control.” Council Member 1 commented.
“You ever been in a war, Councilman? In a firefight? Did you feel an overabundance of control?”  Nick said in a level tone.
“You saying that this Asgard has declared war on our planet?” Council Member 1  wondered.
“Not Asgard, Loki.” Nick corrected
“He can't be working alone. What about the other one? His brother.” Council Member 2 Chimed in.
“Our intelligence says, Thor is not a hostile. But he's worlds away, we can't depend on him to help. It's up to us.” Nick answered.
“Which is why you should be focusing on phase 2, it was designed for exactly...” Council Member 1 trailed off.
“PHASE 2 isn't ready, our enemy is. We need a response team.” Nick stressed.
“The Avengers Initiative was shut down.” Council Member 1 told Nick Fury.
“This isn't about The Avengers.” Nick Remarked.
“We're running the world's greatest covert security network and you're gonna leave the fate of human race to a handful of freaks.”
“I'm not leaving anything to anyone. We need a response team. These people maybe isolated, unbalanced even, but I believe with the right push they can be exactly what we need.”
“You believe?” Council Member 2 Chimed in.
“War isn't won by sentiment, Director.” Council Member 1 noted.
“No, it's won by soldiers.”  Nick replied.

A brooklyn gym at night. Occupied by one man, beating a punching bag in the gym lights, alone in the floor, lost in the fight. The gym is old, as old as the man inside, Steve Rogers. Steve punched the bag, easily a hundred pounds, across the room with one swing snapping the metal chain and pummeling it back a dozen feet, sand spilling out from where he cracked the fabric. He stands up, breathing hard, and grabs another bag, resuming a more normal routine. Fury walks in.
“Trouble sleeping?” Nick Announced.
“I slept for seventy years, sir. I think I've had my fill.” Steve answered.
“Then you should be out, celebrating, seeing the world.” Nick replied.
Steve stops punching and walks over to the bench, unraveling the tape off his hands. He sits down.
“I went under, the world was at war, I wake up, they say we won. They didn't say what we lost.” Steve explained.
“We've made some mistakes along the way. Some very recently.” Nick commented.
“You here with a mission, sir?” Steve wondered.
“I am.”
“Trying to get me back in the world?” Steve supposed
“Trying to save it.”  Fury hands Steve a file on the Tesseract, along with other files on Hydra’s  projects.
“Hydra's secret weapon.” Steve disclosed.
“Howard Stark fished that out of the ocean when he was looking for you. He thought what we think, the Tesseract could be the key to unlimited sustainable energy. That's something the world sorely needs.” Nick explained.
“Who took it from you?” Steve wondered.
“He's called Loki. He's not from around here. There's a lot we'll have to bring you up to speed on if you're in. The world has gotten even stranger than you already know.” Nick shared.
“At this point, I doubt anything would surprise me.”  Steve put forth.
“Ten bucks says you're wrong. There's a debriefing package waiting for you back at your apartment.” Nick started.
Steve turns and picks up a punching bag. Fury starts walking out of the gym.
“Is there anything you can tell us about the Tesseract that we ought to know now?” Nick finished
Steve without missing a beat. “You should have left it in the ocean.”

Out in the Atlantic Ocean, Tony Stark, in his Iron Man suit, is cutting a pipeline transport with a laser cutter coming from his hand. He then places a Stark Energy Reactor. It lights up. Iron Man rockets out of the water and flies towards Stark Tower.
“You're good on this end. The rest is up to you.”
Pepper Potts on the other line. “You disconnected the transition lines? Are we off the grid?”
“Stark Tower is about to become a beacon of self-sustaining clean energy.” Tony grinned.
“Wow. So maybe our reactor takes over, and it actually works?” Pepper supposed.
Inside the Suit, Pepper appears on his hud Monitor.
“I assume. Light her up.” Iron Man flies to the Stark Tower Building, the power is switched on the Stark sign lights up.
“How does it look?” Pepper asked.
“Like Christmas, but with more... me.” Tony answered.
“Gotta go wider on the public awareness campaign. You need to do some press. I'm in DC tomorrow. I'm working on the zoning for the next three buildings.” Pepper revealed.
“Pepper, you're killing me. Remember the moment? Enjoy the moment.” Tony proclaimed.
“Then get in here and I will.” Pepper requested.
Tony arrives at his skyscraper penthouse and is in the process of taking off his Iron Man suit through a hi-tech gauntlet of gadgets.
“Sir, Agent Coulson of Shield is on the line.” Jarvis informed Tony.
“I'm not in. I'm actually out.” Tony remarked.
“Sir, I'm afraid he's insisting.” Jarvis stressed.
“Grow a spine, Jarvis. I got a date.”  Tony teased.
Pepper Potts stares up at the monitors of the reactor device. “Levels are holding steady... I think.”
“Of course they are, I was directly involved. Which brings me to my next question: how does it feel to be a genius?”  Tony asked.
“Well, ha, I really wouldn't know now, would I?” Pepper replied.
“What do you mean? All this came from you.”
“No. All this came from that.” Pepper Said Pointing to the energy in his chest plate.
“Give yourself some credit, please. Stark Tower is your baby. Give yourself... twelve percent of the credit.” Tony disclosed.
“Twelve percent?” Pepper voiced.
“An argument can be made for fifteen.” Tony pointed out.
“Twelve percent? Of my baby?”
“Well, I did do all the heavy lifting. Literally, I lifted the heavy things. And sorry, but the security snafu? That was on you.”
“Oooooh.”
“My private elevator...”
“You mean our elevator?”
“Was steaming with sweaty workmen. I'm going to pay for that comment about percentages in some subtle way later, aren't I?” Tony wondered.
Pepper pours herself and Tony a glass of
champagne. “Not gonna be that subtle.”
“I'll tell you what. Next building's gonna say 'Potts' on the tower.” Tony disclosed.
“On the lease.” Pepper murmured.
“Call your mom, can you bunk over?” Tony asked.
“Sir, the telephone. I'm afraid my protocols are being overwritten.” Jarvis stuttered.
“Stark, we need to talk.” Coulson Announced.
Tony picks up his phone and looks into it at Coulson. “You have reached the life model decoy of Tony Stark, please leave a message.”
“This is urgent.”
“Then leave it urgently.” At that moment the elevator door opens and Coulson appears. “Security breach.” Tony turns and looks a Pepper “That's on you.”
“Mr. Stark” Coulson started.
“Phil! Come in.”  Pepper beamed.
“Phil? Uh, his first name is Agent.” Tony remarked
“Come on in, we're celebrating.” Pepper
“I can't stay.” Coulson told Pepper.
“Which is why he can't stay.” Tony agreed with Coulson.
“We need you to look this over.”  Coulson said as he holds out a file towards Tony. “Soon as possible.”
“I don't like being handed things.” Tony voiced.
“That's alright, 'cause I love to be handed things. So, let's trade.” Pepper said as She pases her glass of champagne to Coulson, takes the file from him, then takes Tony's glass of champagne while passing the file over to Tony. “Thank you.”
“Official consulting hours are between eight and five every other Thursday.” Tony disclosed.
“This isn't a consultation.” Coulson replied.
“Is this about The Avengers? Which I...I know nothing about.” Pepper lied.
“The Avengers Initiative was scrapped, I thought. And I didn't even qualify.”  Tony pointed out.
“I didn't know that either.” Pepper lied. Again.
“Yeah, apparently I'm volatile, self-obsessed, don't play well with others.” Tony explained
“That I did know.” Pepper commented.
“This isn't about personality profiles anymore.” Coulson stated.
“Whatever. Miss Potts, got a minute?” Pepper walks over to Tony who places the files into his own databases. “You know, I thought we were having a moment.”
“I was having twelve percent of a moment. This seems serious, Phil's pretty shaken.” Pepper replied.
“How did you notice? Why is he Phil?” Tony questioned.
“What is all of this?” Pepper asked ignoring Tony’s previous question.
“This is, uh....” Tony expands his arms and different profiles appear in holographic form floating in the air in front of Tony and Pepper.
Screens appear of Captain America in action, the Hulk roaring as he attacks the army at Culver University, and Thor and Y/n fighting the Destroyer in New Mexico. Another is of Loki and the Tesseract to which Tony and Pepper look at in awe.
“I'm going to take the jet to DC tonight.” Pepper Announced
“Tomorrow.”
“You've got homework. You've got a lot of homework.”
“Well, what if I didn't?”
“If you didn't?”
“Yeah.”
“You mean if you finished?” Pepper asked and Tony nods his head. “Well, um...then.” Pepper whispers something into Tony’s ear making him gasps. While Coulson looks away in embarrassment.
“Square deal. It's the last date.” Tony answered.
Pepper kisses him.”Work hard.”
As Pepper leaves with Agent Coulson, Tony grabs the Tesseract in holograph form, worried.

ironstrange for 2, 3, 4, 5, 16, 19 please
2. what’s their parenting approach? do they raise their children differently than how they were raised?
Emotionally, yes, especially Tony. (I don’t know enough about Stephen’s childhood because I’ve read the comics and I just know some bits from different posts I found around here, but I personally headcanon that it was mostly cold, but not really extremely bad before Donna’s death from where everything degenerated.) Stephen, however, is more distant and composed than Tony, and so he’d be also with children. He loves them, but he’s not an oversharing parent, even when it comes to feelings. Tony, on the other hand, IS! Also while I have my personal headcanons about Howard too (I fell in love with him in Agent Carter and I fucking cried in THAT scene in Endgame and I really want to understand what happened to him *after*) we all know that Tony had never really felt enough while his parents were alive. He won’t even let a kid feel the same, so, yeah, emotionally, he’d raise them in the complete opposite way, dragging Stephen along in the process.
I really like to underline the fact that I’m speaking about an emotive way to raise children mostly because from the “practical” one it’s far different. Tony is born into richness and Stephen reached it at some point in his life. They both know that when you have money, you can have pretty much everything you can wish for. And they want just the best for their kids. I’m not saying that Ironstrange’s kids would be spoiled brats, but sure their dads would cover them in presents, just like Tony’s parents used to do with him.
3. what is their favorite thing(s) about their children? what do they love about their children the most?
Everything?! Like, taking a hot guess, probably the fact that the kids would want to follow their steps, which makes them really proud but also gives them multiple strokes every time they try to get into a battle, but I think they just wouldn’t care about their kids being perfect or little geniuses or anything.
4. who gets the most emotional seeing their children grow older?
At the end of the day, Stephen. Tony is the one who cries when thinks about how little they were, and how they are going to college, and during the graduation, weddings and the likes, but deep down, silently, Stephen is the one who gets more emotional.
5. who do they think their children takes after the most? which traits do the children share with their parents? (appearance or personality wise)
So, I’m gonna with the two canonical kids I usually feature in my fics (also one is pretty much an OC because she’s from the comics and has like... four panels in total?) so keep in mind that the kids I’m considering are theirs with two different women (Pepper and Clea) which means that physically they took after their biological fathers. But I think personality-wise they mix a bit... (+ Peter and Harley cameo because it’s a thing I headcanon uu)
Morgan: she’s like, 100%Tony, physically and under a lot of aspects also her character is similar to her father’s. Though I wrote it in a WIP, I think she’d grown interested in medicine more than tech, which is something Tony would totally hate and blame Stephen for.
Sofia: She has Stephen’s eyes and her hair is black just like her father. The rest of her appearances are Clea’s. Personality-wise, she’s kinda shy but determined and does most of the things she does because she doesn’t want to let people down, which I’m not saying is something Tony does too, but you know... She’s like the perfect mix... sort of perfect.
Peter and Harley: I won’t erase either Aunt May or Harley’s mom but after they start to be more and more around Tony and Stephen their relationship with the two of them changes. Or better, Peter is still starstruck by Tony, Harley, who honestly never was, he adores Tony but never had this kind of celebrity crush on him, develops a sort of fascination for Stephen’s powers to the point where he asks not only Stephen to teach him, but also search for Stephen’s help when he needs it. Tony is upset and refuses to admit it.
16. have they ever scared their parents?
Stephen got really scared when Sofia appeared out of nowhere claiming to be his daughter from another dimension, yup. And freaks out every time Peter gets into his suit.
19. what is their favorite thing to do with their parents? any favorite games or mutual hobbies?
Lab time is a fam favourite, at least until Stephen doesn’t drag everyone out of it. That’s how Tony started some of the medical projects from Stark Med: when you start to speak about medicine to Stephen he can go on a mental binge and stay focused even more than Tony himself on the same task for a very long time. They also have family nights which usually include playing board games and/or watching a movie. And, of course, the usual crime-fighting.

Bucky huffed as he turned over in his bed, glancing towards his closed door. He had been trying to sleep for hours now but was still wide awake. He wasn’t exactly surprised, either. This happened every time he tried to sleep somewhere new. He had just gotten used to the hotel room he had been staying in when Steve invited him to come stay with him in Brooklyn, and he wasn’t sure how long it would take him to get adjusted to the new environment.
He sighed and closed his eyes again. He knew that he was safe here. He wanted to believe he was safe here, but his mind was awake, coming up with different scenarios that were possible but highly unlikely to happen. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t stop the endless cycle that he knew would last for days.
He thought about Steve’s offer; that he could come and sleep with him if he wanted to. He silently wondered if it would help. Maybe being with someone he trusted would make him feel safe, but he wasn’t sure. And he definitely didn’t want to bother Steve even though he knew his friend wouldn’t mind.
If he did fall asleep, he knew that there was a chance that he would have nightmares. He would freak out and probably wake Steve up. And then there’s was a chance he might hurt him. He had woke up defensive in the past, prepared to fight off a threat that wasn’t really there. Luckily, there was never anyone there for him to hurt. If that happened and he was with Steve, he didn’t know what might happen. He couldn’t risk it.
Bucky growled to himself and turned over again, catching a glance at the digital clock on his nightstand. It was past one in the morning already. He wasn’t completely sure what time he went to bed, but he knew it was before eleven. Steve had seemed exhausted, so he insisted that they go to bed. He knew he could have stayed up, but he doubted that Steve would go to bed unless he did.
Bucky smiled a bit, remembering a time when they were kids and had a sleepover. They had been at Bucky’s house and pulled out the couch cushions, deciding to sleep in the living room. His parents didn’t mind as long as they cleaned up their mess the next morning. They had sat up for hours listening to the radio. Bucky wasn’t tired yet, but he kept hearing Steve yawn. He had insisted Steve go ahead and sleep, but he countered that he wasn’t tired. Only fifteen minutes later the younger boy fell asleep, his head falling against Bucky’s arm.
Bucky sat up in his bed and turned on his lamp, taking his journal and jotting down the memory. It was becoming easier for him to remember things now. Most of the time he didn’t have to refer back to the journals like he did when he first left Hydra, but it was nice to write them down. He enjoyed writing, anyway. He had never told Steve, but he kept journals all throughout their childhood and even into adulthood. He tried keeping one in the army, but it became harder after Steve rescued him the first time. He still wasn’t completely sure why, but maybe it was that things he really wanted to remember were few and far between. He didn’t like to write about battles and missions, so he would only write about spending time with Steve and the Howling Commandos. Occasionally he would mention Howard and Peggy as well. He wished that he had those older journals with him now, but he was sure they were long gone by now. Maybe he could ask Steve later and see if he had any ideas on where they might be.
His mind back on Steve, Bucky glanced towards the door again. Slowly, he slipped out of bed and went to crack the door open. He leaned his head out into the hall, trying to listen for any small snores coming from the other bedroom. But Steve didn’t snore. Not since the serum. So he heard nothing.
Frustrated, Bucky walked back over to his bed and laid back down, reaching to turn off the light. He closed his eyes again, trying to go to sleep, but sleep never came. When he looked at the clock again, not even an hour had passed. He was sure that the night couldn’t go any slower.
He thought about giving up on sleep. He could get up and go watch TV as long as he kept the volume low. He thought he had seen a radio in the living room as well and considered trying to find some music to listen to. He couldn’t remember the last time he listened to music. He could even look through the books in the bookshelf that he had seen by the TV. He liked to read when he was younger. But none of that really sounded appealing to him at the moment. Because as awake as he was, he wanted to sleep.
Sighing, Bucky got back up. He took his pillow and started towards the door, creeping out into the hallway. He stopped outside Steve’s door, listening to the sound of him breathing on the other side. He considered going in, but decided not to invade his privacy. He knew that Steve said he was welcome, but he still felt like he shouldn’t just yet. It was too soon.
Instead, Bucky put his pillow on the floor beside the door and lied down. He didn’t intend on falling asleep. He didn’t think that sleep would come. He just felt safer hearing Steve breathe. It reminded him that there was someone there that cared about him and wanted to keep him safe. Someone that he knew would never hurt him even when he couldn’t promise the same.
It was a sense of comfort that he could never really remember feeling. He had felt safe in Wakanda, but it was different. He didn’t know anyone there. T’Challa, Shuri, and Okoye had been nothing but kind to him, but he knew that he didn’t really belong there. Wakanda was a place where African culture was cherished, and not all people were fond of allowing a white person to live there. Many of the children in his village had been confused, always asking him where he come from and why he was there. He didn’t mind, really. He knew that children were curious, but it was tiring as he still struggled to heal after the torture he had been through.
Then before Wakanda, when he had been in Romania and the many other places he stayed for a few days at a time, he never felt safe. He knew that Hydra was looking for him, and he knew that there were many agencies that knew he existed and wanted to take him out. He was a threat and a murderer. To some of them, he wasn’t human. So he always had to watch his back.
But now? People knew that he fought alongside the Avengers against Thanos. How they knew, he had no clue. He could only guess that some of the others had been interviewed after the fact. For the first time since the war, he wasn’t seen as a criminal anymore. He was a hero. He didn’t have to worry about his windows being busted open in the middle of the night anymore. He didn’t have to worry about every little sound that might be a gunshot. But his mind didn’t want to realize that yet. His mind didn’t want to see that he could finally breathe.
Bucky didn’t remember falling asleep. He wasn’t sure how late it was when his body finally gave in, but the next thing he knew he woke up with sunlight pouring down the hall. He groaned and rubbed his eyes with his good arm, freezing when he realized there was a blanket draped over him now. Steve has beat him up. He knew that Bucky had slept outside his room. And that edged him closer to panic.
Slowly, Bucky got up, gripping the pillow and the blanket with one hand and making his way to his own room, putting it away. He read the clock and saw that it was afternoon already.
A groan escaped him as he made his way to the front of the house. As he got closer, he smelled food and slipped into the kitchen. Steve was at the stove working on some kind of pasta. He turned and looked as Bucky came in, smiling at him. “Hey,” he greeted.
“Hi,” Bucky mumbled, moving to sit down at the table. “You should have woke me up. I don’t need to sleep all day.”
Steve shrugged slightly. “It’s been a long week,” he reminded him. “I slept later than I normally do myself. Went to the store and picked up a few things and just got back about half an hour ago. I was going to stop and try to get you a phone but they were closed today. I didn’t even realize it’s Sunday.”
Bucky shook his head. “You don’t need to buy me a phone anyway,” he told him. “It’s not like I talk to anyone anyway, ya know.”
“Yeah, but you can do more than just talk on phones now,” Steve told him. “You can listen to music and read books and play games. And I at least want you to have one for emergencies.”
“You can listen to music on them?” Bucky asked, raising an eyebrow.
Steve nodded, turning off the burner and draining the pasta before bringing his phone over. He tapped on a green symbol and a list of music came up. He clicked on a playlist and placed it on the table beside Bucky. “You can make playlists and everything.”
“Please picture me in the trees
I hit my peak at seven
Feet in the swing over the creek
I was too scared to jump in
But I, I was high in the sky
With Pennsylvania under me
Are there still beautiful things?”
“I’ve never heard this,” Bucky told him, peeking at the screen. “It’s pretty.”
“It’s newer,” Steve told him, finishing up the pasta now. “The whole album is nice. It kinda helped me through everything while. . . While things were different.”
Bucky nodded, knowing what he meant. While the dusted were gone. He didn’t say anymore, just listening to Steve softly sing along to the lyrics. It wasn’t often that Steve would let anyone hear him sing, so he relished it. He was one of the few people who had ever heard his singing voice.
“Sweet tea in the summer
Cross your heart, won’t tell no other
And though I can’t recall your face
I still have love for you
Your braids like a pattern
Love you to the Moon and to Saturn
Passed down like folk songs
Our love lasts so long”
Steve took a plate and placed it in front of Bucky, scooping out half of the pasta onto it. Bucky smiled at him. “You know I could have done that myself, right?” he asked.
“I know,” Steve replied, taking out another plate and dumping the rest of the pasta onto it before getting them each a fork. “Maybe I like to serve you.”
“You hate serving and you know it,” Bucky chuckled. He had always been the one to cook when they were younger. Sometimes it was more of a necessity. When Steve was sick, Bucky would cook for him. But as time went on, he realized he enjoyed it. It came in handy when he was on his own, though he wasn’t as good at it now as he once was. “But thank you.”
“And I’ve been meaning to tell you
I think your house is haunted
Your dad is always mad and that must be why
And I think you should come live with me
And we can be pirates
Then you won’t have to cry
Or hide in the closet
And just like old folk songs
Our love will be passed on”
“Cooking was always your thing,” Steve shrugged. “I don’t mind it now, but I’m not as good as you are at it. But as much as you’ve served me before, I think I owe you at least an occasional home cooked meal.”
Bucky scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. “I’m not as good as I used to be,” he admitted. “But I don’t mind to cook. It’s useful to be able to. They always made me cook at camp before you showed up.”
“That why they were so grumpy when I came?” Steve asked, his eyes sparkling a bit when he turned back to Bucky, sitting down across from him at the table. “They threw tomatoes at me because no one knew what to do with them.”
Bucky struggled not to snort, lowering his head towards his plate. “I’m still mad I wasn’t there. I never got to see your little dance.”
“Please picture me in the weeds
Before I learned civility
I used to scream ferociously
Any time I wanted
I, I
Sweet tea in the summer
Cross my heart, won’t tell no other
And though I can’t recall your face
I still have love for you
Pack your dolls and a sweater
We’ll move to India forever
Passed down like folk songs
Our love lasts so long”
“You do not want to see that,” Steve grunted. “It was ridiculous. I told Peggy that they made me a dancing monkey. They were all too scared of Erskine’s experiments. Without him there, they didn’t want to risk anything. They were afraid I would end up like Schmidt, I guess.”
“That’s ridiculous,” Bucky huffed. “Then again, the whole thing was messed up. I still can’t believe you willing let them experiment on you. You’re an idiot.”
Steve rolled his eyes. “I like to think I turned out just fine,” he said, grinning up at him. “Now eat before your food gets cold.”
Bucky knew that he just wanted to change the subject, but he let him. He smiled at him and ate his noodles. For the first time, he felt like he could breathe.
