I don't mind hualian's pretty classic dynamic because it just hits different you know. Hua Cheng has been a punching bag nobody wanted never strong enough to protect his idol and Xie Lian had all of the world's problems placed on his shoulders since day one and then been blamed for being too weak to help every single person and having basic needs too. ive been brainrotting on this for a while now — i do love my kpop jpop cpop guys and i wanted to explore these dynamics with xl4 !! (an excuse to watch more time to twice really) so yay let's gaur!!

so basically, xl4 is a famous group X4, shortened form of XI4NLE. a boy group, formed through a survival show.

what is a survival show? no, it's not about wilderness survival – a survival show is trainees competing against each other in order to become part of a sometimes temporary, but otherwise permanent, group! you have performance missions, activity missions, domestic and international voting, all of which determine who stays and who is eliminated. all the trainees dorm together, or maybe if the show has a special theme, the trainees are segregated based on the theme.

anyways, my theme actually came from my fav group's (twice) survival show, sixteen. in sixteen, the ceo of the company chose trainees from his own company and divided them into two categories: major and minor. major are trainees who could be debuted tomorrow if they felt like it. minors are trainees that are talented, but need to compete against majors for a better chance.

so in the X4 survival show, we have the same segregation. from our beloved quartet:

feng xin and xie lian are in the majors.

hua cheng and mu qing are in the minors.

now, let's go over their skills!

after many mental line distributions, song listening sessions, and others, i decided on the perfect skills for the quartet. (IMO)

feng xin: main rapper / lead dancer / lead vocalist / leader. i think feng xin as a rapper would be soooo good omg. spitting bars left and right! i think of him as this ace card that no one really expects from a guy who looks like a cute golden retriever. he also has good stage presence and good leadership, which makes him a well rounded idol. you'd find him on forums of people discussing "underrated idols in the cpop industry!!!"

mu qing: secondary main vocal / main dancer / visual. secondary because his main strength is dance and flexibility, but he has the second highest vocal range of the group!! he's also the visual, because in the actual tgcf fandom everyone talks about how he's so pretty and all, obviously had to include that. mu qing is a sort of enigma to many on the show because off stage he's a blank slate, but on stage his stage presence is so captivating....

xie lian: secondary main dancer / lead rapper / sub vocal / center. i think xie lian is also a very flexible dancer, considering in canon he and mq had similar weapons and cultivation, i wanted to make this connection. now as for rapping, he's really good, but his flow could use a little bit of work! sub vocal because i wanted the canon neck cursed shackle to come into play. AND CENTER! such an important position: he has the most center time in choreo because of his stage presence (note that center time ≠ iconic/hard dance moves. those may be given to mq because he's the main main dancer, and sometimes to xl.)

hua cheng: main vocal / sub rapper / fotg. yess, hua cheng is the main, main vocal of the group! he has the highest range and his voice is perfection!! i also think his flow would be good, so sub rapper. finally, fotg is face of the group, aka a member that you usually think of when you think of the group. i wanted to give this to xl but realized that when people think of tgcf so many think of hc first, so yay, the position is his. that way, everyone has an important position to maintain!

now for some lore:

hua cheng is one of the youngest contestants alongside sqx and hx on the show

feng xin wins the show because he gets the most international and domestic votes from fangirls after a performance of his goes viral

xie lian is in a close second, only 10 votes off 😭

mu qing is eliminated from the show because during one of the performances, the group forcefully gave the high note to him, but he couldn't hit it. however, yushi huang brings him back with her producers choice card.

xie lians family are big investors in the community.

feng xin and mu qing had a longstanding rivalry for the better part of their career, which only ended after the BIG jun wu scandal. (i can talk about this if people are interested.)

feng xin has written the most songs for the group, followed by hua cheng and xie lian tied, and then mu qing.

their reality TV show is called XFOURONLINE!

they debut solo in a weird order: xie lian, feng xin, hua cheng, and mu qing.

they've all gone viral multiple times.

their best charting song to date is probably from an album that took a more mature route.

worldbuilding notes for my extensive t/gcf snzfic modern au

which i will not exploring in the least in-text because i haven't the energy for the parts that aren't getting me off lol

i was gonna save these until after part 5 but then i was talking abt it with @bestwhumpist and got excited so here they are (directly copied from my notes so it's a mess!) it's mostly broad strokes of character backstory (very broad) + some random thoughts and notes that snuck in to the document which i have left in!

• hc is a famous multimedia artist who went viral after he made a series that exposed and ruined 33 influential figures that were involved in the takedown of the xie family fortune and/or xl's disenfranchisement directly

he used a huge chunk of the money from that series selling (basically bankrupting himself for like 5 years) to buy and renovate a hotel/casino (paradise manor/gambler's den) AS an art project which then turned out to be more lucrative than anyone could have expected (there is talk of expansion but right now he's still living  very well but not actually ghost-king-billionaire yet lmao) (like i'm picturing a 2-3 bed apt in city center -> 5-8k a month rent(?) kinda place except he probably owns it )

• they have been dating for?? several months at the start of the series.  yes they are u-haul lesbian moving in together, it's hualian

• xl was various states of homeless/destitute from ages ~26 to ~34

1. What’s the first fic you have planned for the new year?

Hm, that's a good question. Tbh I don't really plan anything, but there are two fics I want to write/finish. One of them is technically not a fic, and I want to finish it before New Year's Eve, but since I don't know if I can do it, it needs to be the first thing I do in 2025. It is a roleplay kinda fic about the Santa Clause, with a grown-up Charlie (who is now the Santa Claus), and Bernard, the head elf and I'm only half-finished with my part. The other one, if I manage to finish the previous one, is my Shen Yuan/Shang Qinghua fic that has four(ish) chapters and I still need to write the last one xD

So, I have two stories planned, because I want to finish them both, before I start to plan any new fics.

10. Is there a ship that you want to try for the first time in the new year?

Hualian. I think I haven't written anything with Hua Cheng and Xie Lian (but maybe I just forgot about it), and I want to write with them something. I actually have an idea for the fic (Idol AU), but I didn't have the time yet to write it. Maybe in 2025 😅

12. Is there a fandom event you’re looking forward to in the new year?

Tbh I'm not really up-to-date with the events. If it's not organized by a friend, sometimes I notice them too late, or forget about them until it's basically one day before the event. So there's nothing really that I'm looking forward to, but if there's going to be an event for the pairing I'm currently obsessed with, then I'll hopefully participate in it.

yes!!! my favorite MXTX main ship by far. I love them so much they're so good

What made you ship it?

I feel like this was actually one that I just was...sold on pretty fast because I love the dynamic between the two of them so much. I mean, look. The vast majority of the time I am all about the super fucked up ships built on betrayal and suffering, and this is not to say this ship doesn't have its own fucked up stuff going on (hoo boy, Hua Cheng, you've got some issues that need unpacking), but what gets me about these two is how much they like each other, and how much fun they have in each others' company.

It was just clear pretty much right off the bat how much they just enjoy being around each other and it is so much fun to read that.

What are your favorite things about the ship?

I touched on this up there but I think a big thing is how neat they both think the other person is, but particularly and specifically how cool Xie Lian thinks Hua Cheng is. Like, Hua Cheng has this whole long-game desperately trying to impress his #1 idol he's been pining for for 800 years thing going on (oh boy), but Xie Lian is just like "I met this fearsome ghost king two days ago, isn't he neat."

I just love that. Particularly how Xie Lian just kinda lets Hua Cheng have his San Lang disguise as long as he wants. He knows who he is but if Hua Cheng wants to pretend he's someone else that's fine! It's whatever.

Xie Lian's general acceptance and lack of concern about most things involving his own life is deeply concerning on many levels but I do enjoy it when it comes to him just, like. Letting people have their little deceptions if it seems important to them.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

I honestly have no idea what's unpopular here and I'm probably happier that way, as is so often the case.

Other than maybe I guess I want to say that I'm not actually as interested in them having sex and more interested in them doing kink, if that makes sense. I just think Xie Lian should dom Hua Cheng. But I feel like that's so obvious it must not be unpopular; fandom has surprised me before, though.

Fan and Idol (Hua Cheng and Xie Lian)

So, I stumbled upon some low TGCF reviews, and most of them are complaining over, how unbalanced the romance between HuaLian is, or how HC is a borderline stalker, um, yeah, perhaps he really is, I guess? LOL

I actually understand their perspective, of wanting to see a "normal and ideal" romance, of 2 people normally and ideally falling in love with each other. But the thing is, I don't see why HuaLian's romance dynamic is a big problem either.

IMO, from the very start, from the very outline, HuaLian really was set to tell a romance between a devoted fan and his Idol, albeit it's in a fantasy setting.

Ideally, we want a Love and Romance with perfect sense and a clear system. I admit, I like reading such romance as well, because that's satisfying and, of course, perfect. After all, we seek fiction to find the perfection we can't get in reality.

However, realistically speaking Love itself is something absurd and abstract, that we can't measure it using a fixed formula.

Just like Hua Cheng could devote his whole heart toward Xie Lian after he saved him and said he could use Xie Lian as his purpose in life. We may see it as a trivial thing and it's perplexing how such a common event could evoke such a deep feeling. But, for Hua Cheng, for the person involved, it may be his salvation.

We don't know, sometimes the trivial things we did every day that we felt like nothing, such as helping someone press the elevator's button or kindly lending money to someone who forgot to bring money to a convenience store, could be a very meaningful and memorable thing for others.

So, Hua Cheng's love for Xie Lian, while it didn't conform to the "ideal and perfect" flow of romance, realistically speaking, it's highly probable.

The same goes for Xie Lian's love for Hua Cheng.

While "generally summarized", his love can be said to be passive, as in he just accepts HC's advances, but realistically speaking, aren't most of us actually falling into the same category as him? Most couples get together with one person advanced (usually the guy) and the other accepted (usually the girl).

In reality, it's easy to fall in love when someone is kind to us, cares about us, and favors us over everything. Heck, realistically speaking, falling in love with someone just because they're good-looking is even more common.

It's even rarer for someone not to feel moved by others' sincerity and tries to return their feeling, in reality. Well, unless the other party really is not our type, or just hella ugly that no matter how good they are, it's hard to like them back.

When we become adults, we simply didn't care about dramatic love journeys or burning passion. We just wanted someone we can live with and support each other. For Xie Lian who's world-weary after countless setbacks, perhaps Hua Cheng's presence is exactly what he needed. It doesn't always need a logical reason to accept someone. As long as they can make you feel comfortable, it's easy to feel fondness toward them.

But, once again, I understand that this kind of love is indeed not quite Ideal or Perfect with systematically and logical cause and effect. Hence, some people may find it "passive".

Then, after we can accept that HuaLian romance is not the kind of "ideal" love, and understand their Fan and Idol dynamic, we will also understand Hua Cheng's behaviors.

HC's every single creepy or stalker-ish action is normal for an avid fan, for a believer.

Just like how he carved thousands of XL's statues, isn't it actually a resemblance over how a fan nowadays bought 12 sets of their Idol's album, bought 12 sets of their every single merch, and arranged them inside a room like some precious museum? Fan nowadays keep up with their Idol schedule, memorized every word they said in interviews or Shows, etc, just like how Hua Cheng observed Xie Lian's well-being for centuries.

Are those fan behaviors creepy then? If someday this kind of fan has the chance to meet their Idol and build a romance with them, should we call off their romance just because one is an avid fan and the other is his Idol?

Should we judge fan and Idol romance as flawed because the fan may love the Idol too much?

As long as the Idol really loves and returns his fan's feelings wholeheartedly, it doesn't matter if the fan keeps his devoted fan behavior.

Likewise, as long as the fan didn't turn toxic, as in, their love dampened after knowing their idol's flaws, then, the romance between A Fanatic Fan and His Idol is not something problematic.

It's not an unbalanced love if both care about each other, didn't restrict each other's lives, and support each other.

As long as the Fan loves and accepts his Idol's strengths and flaws, as long as the Idol loves and accepts his Fan's Good and Bad points, Idol and Fan romance should not be a problem.

That said, I think this Fan and Idol romance in TGCF really needs some more development, in addition to the super saccharine romantic scenes, lol. Like, I’d really appreciate the change in HC’s behavior toward Xie Lian, from the hidden fanatic fan into a true lover, 

however,

I remember their interaction happened when they were already old farts (centuries-old virgins, lol), In this case, it’s also understandable how their behaviors hardly change since every single dilemma or confusion they might have felt, has already been settled centuries ago, lol. It’s unlike how WangXian in MDZS who have their interaction spanned from Teen to Adulthood, in mere 20 years or so, hence their development is more apparent.

ASMR/Streamer AU

Thinking about an AU with video-game streamer HC and ASMRist XL. Both have huge followings on Youtube and other social media; both never show their faces.

On his channel, MantouASMR, XL uses audio from everyday things like cutting fruit or typing at his computer. Other times, he plans out a general script to help his viewers sleep or motivate them for the day. XL writes and reads his own poetry, as well as sings on his channel too.

XL strives to be the most attentive and considerate content creator. He is constantly reading his viewers’ comments and taking up their suggestions for future videos. Anything to help his viewers get through their day or lift their mood.

(One time, XL read a comment from the parent of a child who was MantouASMR’s superfan. XL’s voice apparently helped their son sleep when he’s scared of the monster under his bed. In his next “Time to Sleep” video, XL iterated a short thank you message for the son and his parent for listening and watching his videos, and he hoped he could continue helping in the future.)

(Another time, XL read a comment from a student who said his voice helped her concentrate on her maths homework—though she mentioned she still doesn’t understand integrals and derivatives. The following day, XL uploaded an ASMR math lesson.)

XL’s voice is known to be very soothing, his whispers as airy and delicate as a spring breeze. His lower register is smooth like honey, and anyone who happens to hear his melodious laughs on a live stream instantly falls in love with his character.

On the other hand, HC’s voice is enticingly deep but has a deadly edge to it. He has no shortage of vulgar language, especially when it comes to playing with other streamers. When HC posts an occasional video that’s not video-game-related such as a rare Q&A, he’s somewhat more pleasant.

Of course, HC is incredibly grateful for his followers’ support. He just finds himself involved in too much internet bullshit even when he respectfully minds his own business. HC supposes that it comes with being China’s number one video game streamer—Crimson Rain Ghost King—watched by millions all around the globe. However, this doesn’t stop HC from being vocal about his opinions and expressing himself without giving a fuck what others thought.

Naturally, HC and XL are in completely separate circles on the Youtube platform. As far as their fans are concerned, a mellow ASMRist and a brash gamer don’t interact with each other...

Here’s the catch: Hualian are secretly married.

XL and HC have been together for over ten years now—married for just under three years. They felt no need to disclose their full relationship when HC began gaining popularity as a streamer, nor when XL’s channel tripled in size a few years later.

In his lives, XL often mentions his mysterious husband a lot. For the third anniversary of his channel, XL retells his wedding day. The picture for the video is of HC’s and his intertwined hands with a red string attaching their middle fingers.

HC was the first one to subscribe to XL’s channel (from a side account). He never fails to remind XL that “Gege has many gifts to share with the world.”

Out of nowhere, a trashy review journal bashes XL’s videos, calling them unoriginal and lowkey creepy because XL is “...a full-grown man whispering random shit that people love for some reason.” HC tries to keep XL from reading the article, but he’s too late. What’s worse is that other media sites speculate XL’s identity after, trying to expose him.

XL has experienced media backlash in the past. This event has him revisiting trauma where he nearly lost everyone in his life. He also went through severe depression and has developed major anxiety since then. One of the main reasons XL started his Youtube channel was because he wanted to be the person of comfort he wished he had had during those dark times.

Witnessing how affected XL is by the article and online hate, HC’s already-thin patience is close to snapping. That specific journal does nothing but writes drama-seeking shit about creators with a notable platform–HC included. Not that he gives a fuck about it.

Except they made XL their next target, and that is unacceptable. HC promptly makes a video grilling the hell out of the journal and the writer who published the article, making it very clear that, “Whoever reads and supports this bullshit are the scum of the Earth.”

HC uploads the video, then proceeds to make a XL-care-burrito. He feeds his husband, keeps him warm, and cuddles him all day. After dinner, XL feels renewed with energy, thoroughly enjoying his Saturday with his biggest, most devoted fan. XL decisively unwraps himself from the burrito and goes to make that sewing tutorial ASMR video he planned for the weekend.

HC’s viewers are once again curious as to if he has connections to XL. They begin digging up evidence but after the short investigation, it seems not to be the case.

Of the two instances XL couldn’t edit out him saying his husband’s name on live, no one seemed to agree on what the two muffled syllables were. XL never shows above his chest (he wears a facemask in case of a slip-up) or goes into too much detail with his stories. Both XL and HC’s other social media accounts are squeaky clean. Plus, you can count on one hand how many times HC has mentioned anything about his personal life.

Their fans stop their analysis, for the most part; XL’s viewers adamant about protecting his privacy and HC’s viewers not wanting to piss their idol off.

With Youtube being an important and time-consuming side of their life, XL and HC make sure to balance their personal, professional, and romantic lives as best as they can, or re-evaluate priorities when things begin to go downhill.

In addition to streaming, HC works as an animator for a respectable company. He has flexible work conditions and schedules.

HC during his stream debuting a new popular game: “I helped make this game, of course I know what I’m doing.” XL watches from the side wearing an adoring and proud smile.

XL is an open and free-spirited soul, so he switches side jobs often such as a barista, salesman, model, etc.

HC’s other hobbies include photography, music, traditional art, and bowling. (He has impeccable aim for obvious reasons.) XL enjoys seeing his friends (SQX, MUA; MQ, lawyer; FX, lawyer), cooking, reading, and skateboarding.

-HC often streams with XL in his lap.

-Hualian create NSFW ASMR for themselves.

-(HC in their bed, listening to one of XL’s ASMR videos...

i can’t stop thinking about hualian going on survivor

HC and XL start on opposite tribes but HC is basically like “anything i have i will share with this beautiful man bc mom i love him :(” to the point of asking for a tribe swap with someone in XL’s tribe (which i have dubbed the “heaven” tribe”) and being sad when he’s rejected bc this means that he can’t be on the same team as his gege. so he deliberately throws team challenges but always avoids being voted off at tribal council because he has an alliance with the other calamities (and he lowkey scares the rest of his team). so he at least makes it to the merge that way. 

XL, meanwhile, is a surprising asset to his tribe because, while he can’t cook, he’s fantastic at building things and cleaning and he’s incredibly strong with high stamina and endurance and is also VERY smart so he’s very good at the challenges and since he’s so nice, everyone in his tribe just can’t vote him off because he’s a great asset. his history, his tragic backstory if you will, give him a huge advantage on survivor and he has an iron stomach. “i’ve done worse” is basically his motto which breaks hearts everywhere and he quickly becomes literally everyone’s favourite. he also has jun wu on his tribe, and JW is very charismatic and whenever he hears people talking about not liking XL or wanting to vote XL off, he pretty much always interjects like “ummm excuse me” and somehow they always manage to get voted off at the next tribal council. how weird. 

then at the merge they become one tribe and HC basically latches on to XL because “i’m finally on the same team as gege!!” (despite the merge is pretty much the signal for ‘every man for himself’ in survivor) and HC and XL share everything. they make an alliance (maybe with JW, FX and MQ for majority) and HC uses his incredible luck to catch food (mostly fish but also a lot of native fruit?? there was fruit on this island??) for his tribe (for XL) and he and XL win most of the challenges (XL’s strength and HC’s luck) (with the exception of the rare win from other survivors). XL, HC and JW find themselves making it to the final three and HC has immunity and he’s like “oh hell yeah yeet JW out of here, i wanna play against gege” so XL and HC are in the final two. it’s a pretty close run between the two but HC straight up gives hostile answers to the jury so they all naturally vote for XL (who they were all gonna vote for anyway bc HC is here to see if he could survive in the wild but XL genuinely needs the money) (also they all fell a little in love with him and didn’t want to see him lose, even if ‘losing’ at this point meant 100k). 

oh and maybe XL and HC secretly snuck off and fucked in the forest off camera but that’s for them to know and the reunion show to find out. 

(HX was particularly bitter about hearing all about XL all the time from HC and he makes that quite clear when he asked the finalists their questions at the final tribal council)

edit: i forgot to add that JW is basically the secret antagonist of the show bc he keeps trying to make alliances to vote XL off and HC intimidates everyone else too much to go against HC, so they just try to ignore it. this makes JW v mad but there’s not much you can do. he never gets voted off bc he has the hidden immunity idols. he’s a bastard and everyone hates him. XL is almost completely oblivious (he knows that people don’t really like JW or that people always try to not be around JW but he doesn’t really know why and nobody will tell him, including HC who always replies “why won’t gege pay this much attention to me???” before pulling a huge ass fish out of nowhere. where does he store those fish. what the fuck)

Fanfic lost, need help

Some time ago (maybe about a month and a half) I read a fanfic thread on twitter. TGCF hualian AU where Xie Lian was a former idol and Hua Cheng was a popular band member and owned a producer company. It was written mostly in the form of the characters' posts on social media, text messages and occasional text describing what happened (the first time it was Xie Lian coming to a cafe to wait for his meeting with Hua Cheng and talking to the cafe owner, a sweet old lady). Also one of those text segments was fairly large so it was posted on AO3, but I've searched through the modern au tag and didn't find it.

Other things I remember: Xie Lian being best friends with Shi Qingxuan, Hua Cheng having a separate twitter account to stan Xie Lian and shittalk about himself, Yin Yu being Hua Cheng's manager (obviously). Xie Lian made a cover of Hua Cheng's new song and people on twitter got worried because normally Hua Cheng would post anything on his second account, but he didn't react (too busy dying XDD).

Does this sound familiar? Can someone point me in the right direction? Please?

Hi zam! I saw a discussion on the bird app about what if LBH had a different Shizun than SQQ, would he fall in love with them just the same? And what a question man... I need answers and opinions, what do you think? One part of me thinks that LBH is so starved for love he'd probably easily fall for any Shizun who treated him with kindness but other part of me doesn't want to believe it since it'd kinda make his love for SY!SQQ real cheap.. wdyt?

Hookay. I have Thoughts but I want to get some stuff out of the way first, mainly the fact that these are simply My Thoughts as someone who exclusively likes BingQiu endgame, to the point where any ship where they aren’t together is a big squick. Other people will not see it this way! Other people might just want to have fun, or they don’t like BQ or they just wanna explore other relationships; this is all valid and good!! This isn’t me telling you why you should like them or to see things my way, this is only what I’ve come up with in regards to why I feel this way about them and why the mere existence of Other possibilities doesn’t threaten or cheapen my view of this ship.

Where I fear we might have a problem is when this argument *is* presented with the intention of cheapening BingQiu? Like, there’s a group of people who genuinely want to just multiship in peace, and there’s another group who already doesn’t feel BingQiu’s love is real and present this as a “gotcha!” to the shippers. I've said before, everyone reads a different, unique story even when the text is the same, and this view, while I think could be presented in a nicer way, is also A Way to see this ship.

Not trying to change anyone's mind here, just giving my take on it.

A bit of meta under the cut, don't read it if you're not into that!! You know who you are!!

The Point (at least for me) isn’t “Luo Binghe fell in love with the first person who showed him kindness”.

BingQiu is not a match made in heaven (bear with me here!), they’re not even from the same world! LBH is a romantic, SQQ is a realist. 

I think there’s a reason Bingge ended up with a thousand unfulfilling relationships and that is because the Romantic Ideal is to be constantly swept off your feet by someone who sees You and Only You, makes you feel Special and feels as strongly about you as you do them. Needless to say that is unrealistic, but if you have Romantic ideals then you might just end up chasing after that endlessly, toss aside the person who no longer makes you feel the Rush of infatuation and look for something new and shiny. The Realist point of view says love isn’t about who carves a thousand statues in your likeness (sorry hualian) but more about who takes care of you when you’re sick.

That is what Luo Binghe learns over the course of the novel. He starts out idolizing a version of Shen Qingqiu that *does not exist* (the Shizun who Always cared about him and had good reason to do the things he did -we know that not to be true for SJ-), and projects onto him his desires (I want Shizun to Only look at me, Why is Shizun *smiling* at others?, I’m going to blow up the world and everyone in it so it’s only Us), but in the end he learns that Shen Qingqiu does not have to stick to his ideal version for LBH to believe he *does* care about him, because despite everything he keeps saving LBH, because he picked up that jade pendant and saved it, because he keeps *choosing* him.

In the end, their love is quiet and honest, which I think is what makes it hard to understand both in-universe and irl (can't speak for anyone else but myself here. I did not care about BingQiu as much as I do now when I finished reading). It’s not “we’re perfect for each other, your flaws are virtues in my eyes”, it’s “I don’t like XYZ about you, and you don’t like ABC about me, let’s grow around it.” I’m confident it’s the kind of relationship that won’t crumble after 10 years when they cant stand each other because the honeymoon phase wore off five years ago, because they’re making a conscious decision to make it work, meeting in the middle and making their home there.

So to answer the subject of this ask, finally, would Luo Binghe get a crush on someone *else* (and maybe even get into a relationship) if he never met Shen Yuan? Probably! In the original novel he got thousands of them. Does this cheapen BingQiu’s relationship? In my eyes, not at all. Their relationship is the most stable and strong (for me), and it has nothing to do with how it started, because it had a rocky start, it has all to do with them using communication and patience to build their relationship in a way that makes them unique.

Personally I like scenarios where they meet in several different ways and at different times but still end up together, but that's a story for another day...
