My favourite Harry Potter Hot Take is that Merlin is still alive, still waiting for Arthur’s return, and he is off all Ministry records worldwide, since he’s so powerful, and much older than Nicolas Flamel.

I say this as a BBC Merlin fan of 11 years and a Potterhead of 10 years. He’s definitely a Slytherin in that too.

Real easy to SAY you’re not getting the game when it’s not even available for Switch yet.

I'm...not exactly sure how to respond to this. Part of me wants to laugh, but I feel like that might give the impression that I'm not taking you seriously. Either way, I didn't even know the game wasn't out for the Switch. I just sort of thought it it the shelves for every system all at once, or within days of each other. But I just checked and nope, you're right, apparently it's a few months away from coming to the Switch.

Not sure if this matters, but the game is currently available on Steam, and I have a Steam account. If I really wanted, I could purchase HPHL and play it right now. That is an option available to me. I don't know if that helps prove my case on not, but on the other hand...I guess I just don't understand why I need to prove myself in the first place? If I say I'm not buying the game, why would anyone doubt it? I don't doubt the claims of anyone else who says they're buying or not buying the game. This is the internet, anyone can lie about basically anything at any time...but I don't really assume that people are lying without a good reason.

Does it really even matter if I'm incapable of obtaining the game right now? Does that somehow devalue my choice to not pick it up? You're saying that you think, were it available on the Switch today, I wouldn't be able to resist getting it? Because that just seems like a bizarre take, frankly.

I suppose the boycotters, in general, feel like they're dealing with a lot of "fake" allies who claim to support the Trans/Jewish communities yet still buy Hogwarts Legacy. I get that frustration, and I know I've defended people who play the game. But I'm not playing. (Or at least, I'm not giving Rowling money. I may still emulate if I get curious, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that.) I realize my preferred system doesn't yet have access to the game but like...what exactly am I supposed to do, then...? Not express my opposition until I have the ability to get the game on the Switch?

Disclaimer: as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I absolutely despise J.K. Rowling’s political views and I do not support her in any way. How J.K. Rowling felt after basing Snape on her chemistry teacher (who she quite incorrectly thought hated her) thinking he would never see it (he was good friends with her mother, loved the series, and wrote magical beast fanfiction because he — and I have many sources for this — was a mega-nerd, autistic, multi-talented, innately wizard-ish Welshman).

I looked into this guy because I was wondering what he could have possibly done to get Snape, of all characters, based on him. The only thing I could find was that apparently J.K. Rowling took his autistic socializing as “he doesn’t like me” and that this guy was actually a really nice person. Like, unusually so. I went to read up on it again for the sake of this post and had a bunch of “Oh, that’s right; he totally did have a restroom with disabled access installed in the science department for J.K. Rowling’s T.A. mother who was ill” moments, some “Oh, that’s right; he totally was a pillar of his community who went around doing welfare checks on people with violent exes even when he was on his deathbed” moments, some, “Oh yeah, he totally was a feminist who lobbied for women’s rights on a regular basis (my uncle who likes Harry Potter joked that this is why J.K. Rowling didn’t like him)” moments, and some “Oh, yeah; he totally did used to compare his chemistry class to potion making and wizards when kids got bored and sing about it in Welsh with wizard robes on randomly throughout and at the end of the year like a freaking nerd years before Harry Potter was even conceived” moments.

TL;DR: This has been a J.K. Rowling are you fucking kidding me post and also Snape is a feminist by proxy; I don’t make the rules.
