and then yaz hates the master so much, which is easy, which should be easy, and she loves the doctor, which is easy, which should be easy, even if the doctor. won’t ever acknowledge it. or look at it. or think about it lest it break her a little. and all of this is compounded by the fact that the doctor is just. she doesn’t even like the master, from yaz’s perspective, but it is him that she’ll drop everything to chase after when she gets his scent. she doesn’t even try to keep him when she’s caught him, yaz has to learn after a few times, because “leaving him to his fate” is really just another way of saying “letting him go.” yaz spent ten months thinking and tracking and denying and even sleeping in what the doctor left to her. she would never leave her. (if she had her way, they’d take the master in and chain him up and never let him go again. and yaz could hate him, and hate him and hate him without the doctor chasing him and thinking about him and dreaming about him when yaz is standing right there.)

and then the doctor won’t look at either of them, will she. can’t. this doesn’t ever end well, if she tries to love either of them. she’s the doctor, and some nights she’s still trying to prove that to herself, but the one thing she knows is true is that she doesn’t get what she wants. but she is also a hypocrite. so she clings onto yaz until she leaves clawmarks in her, digs in deep as they tumble into intimacy the way she can never help herself with her companions. yaz is no different, no less lovely, no less lovable. and she leaves the master behind telling herself its always the last time, this is the end, but she’s never surprised to find him again. and that thrill of pulling his plans to pieces gets a little sharper, a little crueler, but doesn’t run cooler no matter how many times she feels it. she’s not a very nice person, the doctor. kind, often. good, even, if you think something like her is allowed to call itself good. but she’s not very nice.
