This was so powerful because it’s not Steve McGarrett, the Navy SEAL, the highly trained powerhouse of a soldier, that we’re so familiar with. This is Steve, the human being — freezing, breathless, exhausted beyond words, sick, dying, terrified, processing, and pumped full of nausea-inducing levels of adrenaline, and even knowing that time was running out, he couldn’t do anything to keep moving. He was frozen here, unable to push his body any further. He just needed a minute to recover. It’s only Junior’s falling against him that forces Steve out of it and to conjure the ounce of strength he needs to keep going.

Part 2 of me rambling about s8 of hawaii five 0
Live commentary
ep 6
- did-did Danny really just organize an intervention for Steve? To make him take better care of himself?? I don't know how to feel about this
- Lou really just said "Steve listen to your husband, he loves you" spoken like a true married man
- kinda gotta agree with Dog, not your finest move Danny
- so can we all agree that Danny losing his mind a little over Steve's radiation poisoning is kinda like the whole Steve losing his mind over Danny retiring thing but in reverse?
- I think Steve has never looked more stressed than with this stress counseler person asking him about his sexlife right in front of danny
- awwww now the end of this episode is in my top 3 favorite heart to hearts these two dorks have ever had
- Danny being honest about being scared that Steve isn't taking his radiation poisoning seriously to the point it keeps him awake at night and steve replying that he's scared too but that he doesn't want Danny to change because he loves him the way he is and that he does take things seriously URHGH
THE GROWTH! The genuinely healthy communication! I'm so proud of them 🥹
ep 7
- no no no what is going on between adam and kono? My breakup senses are tingling and I don't like it
- I swear the way Adam and Steve's conversation in the car went is so "let's talk about our respective marriages" coded
Like honestly it's so blatantly obvious - they are literally paralleling mcdanno to kono and adam ffs
- hey and come on adam you too? Why does everyone need to shit on the restaurant thing
- haha Steve is mad people he cares about just walk into a dangerous situation without backup - I love how this season confronts Steve with his own behavior
-hmm l don't know how to feel about Lou literally deleting evidence to protect tani, really most of their shady "police work" really didn't age well
- damn Steve killed a cop, that's definitely gonna fuck with him
- love how Lou is looking out for everyone, he just is the team grandpa
- sooo adam is gonna join five 0 right? This is what all this is about isn't it?
- I swear I am trying to care about junior and tani and what's going on with them but Idk so far I haven't really warmed up to them
ep 8
- eyyy Danny is back and calls Steve babe within 1 min into the episode? This can only be a good one
- nvm I swear to God Steve if you crash land yet another plane-
Seriously dude? Haven't you learned your lesson from the last time?
- naww Danny is so proud of Steves character development, sure hope he isn't gonna do something dumb and risky and ruin it again
- okay so tani and junior huh? They're definitely gonna be a thing soon aren't they
- the dude was killed because he was hiding from a drug cartel that he snitched on and fled with the drug lords daughter, I swear all these people always have the most dramatic backstories
- aaaand steve is doing the dumb reckless thing, Danny my guy I feel you're pain, he is so done with his shit he doesn't even yell at him anymore
- Danny is such a fucking saint, Steve almost went and got himself killed AGAIN and all he cares about is being last and danny husband of the fucking year just goes "yeah yeah you did well let's get a beer maverick"
- okay tani and her brother are kinda cute in their peek sibling behavior, I feel bad now for calling her a kono replacement, girl is much more than that
ep 9
- damn love Jerry's new haircut
- I will never get tiered of Danny and steve bickering about the restaurant, I know they are setting it up to fail but I genuinely think this could have been a good thing to eventually end the show on, like a retirement thing, but oh well
- aww I love Danny trying to comfort neolani with something Steve told him, only to have it backfire and make him anxious again
- pfffff and tani and junior sit in the far back like literal children
- oh great we're doing the biological warfare stuff again, this should be fun
- so they only have 8 hours to live? sounds like a prime love confession set up to me
- love our respective couples comforting each other, have to say tani and junior are doing a way better job tho like seriously Steve "try not to die while I take this call okay?" that's the best you can do, seriously?
- and of course Danny's all time stress response is to bitch about or at Steve, stellar coping skills all around
- omg danny did not just say-and steve didn't - OMG is it actually-
-nvm of course it's a fake out, damn it after 7 season why do I still keep falling for this shit
-the little restaurant talk Danny started to distract Steve and himself with was pretty sweet tho
- hey, wait why is Danny the only one definitely close to death? The others all seem relatively fine
- and of course Steve has to go and needlessly risk himself, so junior has to safe both their ass's instead of him just doing it on his own in the first place
- excuse me people why are there not more fanfics about the crew stuck in quarantine together?? this shit is hilarious and has so much potential for angst!
Please if anyone has some great fic recommendations send them my way please!
-no come on Danny, Steve didn't wanna upset you! That's honestly a pretty mature thing given the situation you were in, and now their arguing
- poor tani and junior they be stuck with these two idiots for a long time
- I could really see tani, just snapping at them after two days to either kill each other or fuck it out already, because their whole shebang is just exhausting for everyone
ep 10
-AHHHHH they finally opened the restaurant!? Progress!
- why does the screen look weird? Please don't let this be a dream type thing
- "Right now grandma Williams is smiling down at you" awww Steve, that is so sweet🥹
- nooo it's a dream thing 😭
- love how everyone makes fun of Steves near mental breakdown haircut, really dude it looks terrible, why does no one stop him?
- wow you really gonna give em kids the judgemental stares for flirting? Steve Danny as if you're any better
- and of course they're getting jumped in freaking quarantine
- really the dude went through all that trouble, just to kill Danny? And didn't even try aiming for the head? amateur
- aww Danny imagining grace wedding, my heart <3
- Danny is hurt, Steve is freaking loosing it, I'm so here for this
- Lou really said "sir, you better have a plan soon because if you don't Steve will come up with one, and only God can help us if that happens" I love you so much Lou
- huh so Danny thinks Charlie will be a cop? That's interesting
- awww and of course Steve is there, sitting next to him like a good husband, and the rest of the ohana
- nooo Danny being there for kono and adams first kid, that is so wholesome 😭
- Steve is straight up having a terrible time, while Danny has some idealistic feverdream about the future, this is so fun
- excuse me Steve you fingering your husband does absolutely not make you even for the liver thing, you nut
- so there gonna blow up a bomb right next to another bomb? Sure that seems reasonable
- yes Lou! Get the sledge hammer!
- poor Eric, don't worry hun we still have 2 seasons left to go Danny will be fine
- no NO you cannot- you did not just show me that while Danny's dying the last thing he hallucinates about is having grown old with Steve 🥺
- "and if I could do it all over again I wouldn't change a thing" I'm done, this is it, that line just killed me 😭❤️
- excuse me, Danny is dying and you people are choosing NOW to tease Steve about his stupid haircut? Seriously??!
- yes everyone copes differently I guess, but when Steve's life was on the line no one was joking around is all I'm saying
- yes Danny Steve saved your life by fingering you, deal with it XD poor Eric is scarred for life
- love Danny genuinely getting some love for once, this was a good episode

H50 season 10, episode 2 thoughts...
Man, I love Eddie!!
He should be a main character.
Okay, so... does anyone else feel like Tani and Junior's relationship (which is clearly coded to be a romantic relationship), is eerily similar to McDanno?
Now they're trapped in a collapsed tunnel (buried under a building, anyone?)
The only diff between the two couples is that one is het and so 'allowed' by tptb.
But if you look at how they act with each other- both relationships are the same.
Eddie!!!!
❤️❤️❤️
Okay, Danny is in his white tshirt again, and now jealous of Eddie.

you know how steve constantly brings danny up even when he's not around? which is a lot on its own but particularly if he's with someone who doesn't know danny or what exactly their deal is, especially since he openly likens their relationship to a marriage to people he barely knows even. that lead me to this particular what if...
every year steve meets up with his former navy buddies, guys he came up with or trained with or went into battle with, between their schedules and as they get out they always try to make a date and catch up.
every year as they get older they start talking about their girlfriends and then their wives and then their kids, since that's a huge part of what's going on in their lives.
steve talks...about danny. his ohana. danny. gracie. danny and charlie. then eddie and the kids: tani and junior. and danny. his partner always comes up and no one questions it, they are used to not asking.
steve doesn't think much of it, until one time one of the other guys corners him, kinda nervous, and says he wants him to be the first of the group to know that he's gay. of course, steve is touched but he doesn't understand why until the guy explains. 'it was you, talking about your danny, and your kids, and the family you built together, with such love and conviction and no hint of shame, that made me believe i could some day have all of that too. it gave me courage to ask my now fiancé out on a date. we would be honoured to invite you two to the wedding, since you are at least partially responsible. we can only hope we are still as in love after 10 years together as you guys are.'
steve is in shock, but he doesn't have the heart to ruin the guy's beautiful coming out speech by telling him danny and him aren't like that. he lets him continue to assume what everyone else apparently had been doing for years.
except...perhaps, it's time to talk to danny. there would be plenty of opportunities when he comes home and tells his live-in partner why they have a wedding to attend to.
(two years later he's the one handing out save-the-dates)

My honest opinion for Hawaii 5-0 season 8-9:
It’s not worth watching. Danny is barely in it, the plot is all over and it’s either drawn out or forgotten about, they also ruined a lot of storylines. It’s bad. I love Junior and Jerry though, it’s fun to have their screen time. I want to love Tani but I don’t, she’s very much ‘social media feminist’ and Mary Sue. I think she had a lot of potential but she’s an extremely dry and pick me type character for the most part, I will say though that the few times she’s an actual character I did like her. I think the end of season 7 is a good stopping point, we get to meet the new characters but nothing is ‘ruined’ yet.

🎲 Fandom choosing is so hard! Either S&H or H50, a random kiss pls!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh hell yeah. there are two directions you could go with this (bridal or h/c) and I went with. the other one.
Send me a fandom and I'll generate a kiss to write!
Steve stared down at the top of Danny's head. Not that that was an uncommon state of affairs, but there was a greater distance to stare right now. It made his hair even shinier, especially under the bright lights of Iolani Palace HQ. "Danny, what the hell are you doing?"
"Just-" Danny grunted, wrapping an arm around Steve's legs. "Just shut up."
"Danny. It wasn't actually a challenge."
"Oh no, boss," Tani chipped in helpfully. "I was definitely challenging him."
"Didn't think it was to propose, though," Grover said, making a manful attempt at pretending he wasn't laughing.
Steve sighed. Danny was reaching up for his hand, but he was reasonably sure he wasn't actually going to just grab his wrist without Steve's cooperation. He rested his hand on Danny's shoulder instead. "Does it have to be fireman's carry? I am supposed to have some authority here. Where did you learn fireman's carry, anyway?"
That, at least, achieved the desired effect of Danny standing up. Apparently he couldn't be appropriately offended while kneeling at Steve's feet. "I was trained as a first responder! I should be asking you how you know it."
"The military invented it."
"That's true," Junior volunteered from the other side of the table, where he'd wisely confined himself.
"No, it's-" Grover interjected. "Honestly. You Navy boys think you made the sky blue."
Steve couldn't help shrugging and responding, "Well, it is our colour."
Danny rolled his eyes. "Oh-"
The man could move fast when he wanted. Stocky and low to the ground came with advantages. As did, to be fair, Steve's reaction time being stymied by his aversion to hurting Danny in the process. Somehow it all ended up with Steve halfway to exactly the position he'd been trying to avoid.
Danny's back was, frankly, a less appealing view than the top of his head. At least at this angle and fully clothed.
"What were you saying about authority?" Danny said smugly.
"I think I lost it ten minutes ago," Steve admitted to Danny's scapula. He was tempted to go dead weight, which he was pretty sure actually would drop Danny, but that probably wouldn't end up in any more dignified position for either of them.
"You lost it years ago, boss," Tani told him. "You're way too much of a softie to keep it longer than first impression."
"You know I led a SEAL team?"
"You've softened since then," Danny said, and poked him in the side. "Candy left in the sun."
Sighing, Steve accepted that as merely the latest in a long line of fond but slightly derogatory food-based analogies. "Are you planning on putting me down anytime soon? All my blood's starting to go to my head."
"Can't have your head getting any bigger," Danny agreed, and helped him heave himself back over Danny's shoulder onto the ground.
Safely standing, Steve blinked a couple of times, letting the dizziness subside as Tani clapped Danny on the back and handed over a dollar bill. "Shouldn't have doubted you."
"No, you shouldn't have," Danny said, and went to take the money.
It floated to the ground untouched as Steve crouched and lifted, one arm across Danny's back and one under his knees.
Danny squawked, and Grover started laughing, bending over with his hands on the computer table.
"Hey! No-one challenged you!"
"Partnership equity."
"I don't think you know what either of those words mean," Danny grumbled, and crossed his arms. Which, given his current bridal-carried state, made Grover's laughter redouble and Steve snort, the movement shaking Danny slightly and pushing his elbow further into Steve's ribs.
"I hate you," Danny said, and let his head fall onto Steve's shoulder.
"Yeah, I love you too." Steve bent his head to kiss Danny on the forehead, which was met with a faint mumble that deniably may or may not have contained words of affection, then he looked over at the rest of the team. "Now, who wants to put money down on how much I can beat his time by?"
"Oh, I do."
"Hundred percent."
"Hey!"

H50 9x23 Junior is about to do something stupid and Tani is like “dude? dont do that”, and Danny is like “that’s what Steve does every day, now you know how i feel”. only thing is, earlier in the episode everyone [yes Danny too] is clearly implying that Tani and Junior are in love and are going to the wedding as a romantic couple. so hes basically comparing this soon-to-be romantic couple to their partnership.
And then Danny is LITERALLY telling Tani to “have fun” with Junior while “she’s still young” cause now he’s “old” and it’s too late for him. implying he’s too old to start dating Steve, that it would be too much change. then later in the episode, Lou claims steve is “old” too. reminding us of the conversation Tani and Danny exchanged earlier. (we’re not gonna talk about how similar their name is)
PLUS earlier in the episode, Steve told Mary that “he doesn’t fight for love” the way he should. and then at the end, steve and danny just bicker cause they’re so clearly in love.
Also, during the wedding, someone mistakes Tani and Junior for a couple, and then Tani acts jealous when the girl wants to flirt with him. again, very mcdanno coded.
Anyway. those might not be the exact dialogues since im watching it in french but whatever. gay rights.

For your Haikyuu ocs! (I’m not very good at these questions sorryyyyyyy)
What are each of their biggest fears? And biggest flaws? Conversely what are their greatest strengths? Biggest goals?
And idk if you have this figured out but if you do, what do they look like?? Definitely has nothing to do with me wanting to draw them nope nope nope
Ooooh, good question! I haven’t though about those for some of them before now!
Kōsuke
Biggest Fear: Letting people down in any way shape or form. Be it his team through not being good enough, his parents through not getting good grades, the other first years through “not being a good friend”, the coaches, etc. Biggest Goal: As of Highschool, it’s “becoming a Libero worthy of Karasuno”. So basically he wants to be good enough to support them and not leave them in a lurch when Noya graduates and Kōsuke takes over as the main Libero in his second year. Biggest Flaw: He buries all his stress and anxiety and negative emotions until, to the point where he literally can’t function anymore and has to take a gap year between Highschool and University. Biggest Strength: He’s incredibly dedicated to whatever he’s doing and whoever he’s doing it with. He’s dedicated to getting good grades, he’s dedicated to becoming a player he thinks is worthy of being the Karasuno Libero, he’s dedicated to his teammates, and he’s especially dedicated to the other first years. When Igarashi isn’t able to play anymore in their third year, the guilt of continuing on without him takes a MASSIVE toll on Kōsuke.
Igarashi
Biggest Fear: Gonna be honest, I don’t know that Igs really has one? He’s a very optimistic guy, and there’s not a whole lot going on up there other than whatever squirrel he’s chasing at the moment (right now it’s predominantly volleyball). As he gets older, more into third year, I’d say it’s probably holding his team back. He’s the least serious about volleyball out of the group and he has the least experience. Biggest Goal: To make a lot of friends from all sorts of different teams, including his own, and to learn a lot from his upperclassmen. Biggest Flaw: He’s easily distracted and gets lost in his thoughts at the worst times, and he always sees the best in everyone even when they’ve proven there’s not much there to see. Biggest Strength: He has a near unfailing optimism. If there’s any silver lining to be found in a situation, you can count on Igarashi to be the one to point it out. Also he just loves people and loves to make friends and that lets him learn from a lot of people of all ages.
Tani
Biggest Fear: Initially it was not being able to carry on the family legacy at Nekoma. After he settles in and gets comfortable at Karasuno, it becomes being made to leave Karasuno before graduation. Biggest Goal: Tani feels a lot of pressure from his family to be better than his brother. His brother was a Nekoma ace during his third year (pre-cannon) but his studies suffered. Tani has been an honors student all throughout junior high and is in the highest level of class possible as a Karasuno first year, so now he just has to keep his grades up and become the ace of Karasuno in his third year. Biggest Flaw: Tani is extremely closed off even with his positive emotions. He doesn’t want to let anyone get close because he doesn’t want to get hurt. He really really wants someone to actually care about him, just once. But he won’t let anyone in. (Enter Miura, who does not knock and most certainly does not take no for an answer. I doubt even a restraining order would stop him tbh) Biggest Strength: Tani is incredibly analytical and it transfers over to his playing as well as his relationships. He’s able to take in all the information, sort through it, and figure out just where to strike to make it count. And he’s confident in his ability to do so.
Miura
Biggest Fear: Honestly it’s probably something happening to his siblings. They’re always taking up a portion of his brain space. Biggest Goal: Miura would really really like to be a pro volleyball player one day. He doesn’t voice this dream though because it isn’t really a viable career path. But sometimes, just for a little bit, he’ll let himself dream. Biggest Flaw: Miura’s very self-sacrificial for the people he cares about, to the point of putting his own wants and needs on the back burner for so long he sometimes forgets that they’re there until they burn and there’s smoke pouring off of them. Also while he’s great at cheering on his teammates, his optimism only extends to them. He’s very pessimistic when it comes to anything about himself and his dreams/goals/efforts, etc. Biggest Strength: He’s incredibly down-to-earth and has a very solid work ethic. It takes a lot to phase him, which puts him in a place to be an amazing supporter to the people he cares about both on and off the court.
APPEARANCES:
So I haven’t drawn them before, but I do have a general idea of what they look like! I’ll pull a couple reference images for hair on Tani and Miura since I picture theirs a specific way that I have yet to figure out how to describe, but Kōsuke and Igs are still pretty vague. :)
Kōsuke has short and somewhat messy black hair and gray eyes. He’s 5’4”, but he subconsciously hunches over and shrinks in on himself to seem more unimposing.
Igarashi is taller than Kōsuke, but shorter than Tani and Miura. He has fluffy white hair and light blue eyes, and he’s pretty pale.
Tani has light brown Tim Drake-style hair, dark brown eyes, and freckles. He’s taller than Igs and shorter than Miura. And he’s always got a lollipop :)
Tumblr media
And then Miura is built like a farm-boy and is the tallest of them all. He’s got dark brown hair with an undercut (similar to Terushima from Johzenji, but not slicked back) and the top half is dyed a purpley-maroon. His eyes are dark like his hair, and he’s more on the sun-tanned side.
Tumblr media
Thank you for asking, Jade!! :)

WAIT NO ONE ASKED YOU QUESTIONS!?
Okay. Every single odd number on that list.
I reblogged that post last night and fell asleep almost immediately after 😂😂! Thanks for asking Tanis!!
1. Share a song that makes you think of [fic title] Afraid of Heights by boygenius always makes me think about it hurts to hope for more. I listened to that song on repeat while writing it that no whenever I heart it I think about that fic.
3. What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written? That's like asking me for my favourite child (not that I have kids). I'm sticking with buddie fics here since I have almost 150 fics on Ao3 and that's way too many to think about.
Honestly, there ain't no turning back might be my favourite even though it isn't fully published!
Or I really love gold when you see me too.
5. What’s a fic idea you’ve had that you will never write? Answered here :)
7. How many ideas for fics do you have right now? Uhhh too many?? I have 5 'active' wips (meaning I'm actually working on them a little bit) and like 20 other ideas. I tend to get an idea, work on it like my hair is on fire, and then when I lose the beans half the time the wip goes to collect dust.
9. Do you write every day? If you wrote today, share a sentence of what you’ve written! I try to write every day, even if it's just one sentence! Here's something I updated from the NHL AU today!
Buck’s much less self destructive now, thank you team mandated therapy and a bit of heartbreak, but he still has a big personality. He’s got the kind of personality that used to land him on Don Cherry’s shit list before he was finally kicked off Hockey Night in Canada for being a racist old fuck. But, that personality of his means he’s the kind of guy who the Kings marketing team loves because he’s down for basically anything they throw at him.
11. Do you have specific playlists for writing fics? I tend to find a couple of songs that match the vibe I'm going for or that really inspire me and then listen to those on repeat.
13. How much planning do you do before writing? Answered here
15. How do you come up with titles for your fics/chapters? Usually song lyrics! Sometimes a title comes into my head out of nowhere, but usually I end up searching for a lyric that feels right.
17. What’s something you’ve learned about while doing research for a fic? I learned all about the best sunrise views at the southern rim of the Grand Canyon for there ain't no turning back! It made me really want to go to see the sunrise there, even more than I already wanted to before!
19. Give us a small teaser from one of your WIPs. This is from my NHL AU! In the fic Buck is Canadian and when they go to Canada on a road trip Buck has to scope out a Tim Hortons immediately.
It would be a lie to say that as soon as they landed in Ottawa Buck went to Tim Hortons, because they landed at 11:45, only a couple of hours after a win in Buffalo. It’s been a long and cold east coast trip - they’re on the road for almost 10 days for this one and Ottawa is the third to last stop.  It wouldn’t be a lie to say that the first thing Buck did when he woke up in their hotel was to jump out of bed, wake Eddie up in the bed next to him, and drag him to the Tim Hortons next to the hotel.  And listen, Buck knows that objectively Timmies is just fine. It isn’t bad, it’s just not actually good either. But he’s a Canadian boy, he grew up on Timbits after practice with Maddie and hanging out in the Tim Hortons parking lots during high school, at least for the couple years he was around before moving to Kitchner to play juniors. Tim Hortons will always have a special place in his heart.
21. Have you ever deleted an entire scene after spending hours laboring over it? If so, why? Yeah, it was a scene that I wrote really early in the writing process and by the time I finished the fic the scene just didn't fit the vibe. I ended up using bits of it in another fic though, so it wasn't all a waste!
23. How do you choose where to end a chapter (if you have multi-chapter works)? I try to find a natural stopping point, but typically I don't write chaptered fics. I think of my 149 on Ao3 only like 15 of them are chaptered, maybe less.
25. Have you ever upset yourself with your own writing? I've made myself WEEP while writing and weep again while rereading later.
27. Is there a fic you were nervous to post/share? Why? I was a little nervous to share it hurts to hope for more because it was a really important fic to me (and really personal to me in some ways). I didn't want people to hate it because it felt so close to my heart.
29. Share a bit from a fic you’ll never post OR from a scene that was cut from an already posted fic. (If you don’t have either, just share a random fic idea you have that you don’t plan on getting to.) I don't think I'll ever finish this fic so I'll share a bit here. When I saw on the fandom wiki that Eddie and Buck were actually probably the same age (1991/1992) I started a fic that's a snippet of each of their lives at the same time period. This is from the Eddie - 18 section.
There was a little plus sign on three separate pregnancy tests. Eddie rests his head on the bathroom counter, hunching over from where he’s sitting on the edge of the bathtub in Shannon’s bathroom. To her credit, Shannon looks like she’s holding it together more than he is. He was leaving for basic in a month and a half, she was supposed to be moving out of state for college in two.  Eddie took a deep breath, then another, before looking up at Shannon again. Her eyes were red rimmed, but otherwise she looked composed. He pushed down the fear that was threatening to crawl out of his chest, up his throat, and out of his mouth and instead said, “Whatever you want to do, I’ve got your back.” “I want to keep it,” Shannon said after a beat.  “Okay, then we keep it,” Eddie reached out and took her hand, squeezing it gently. “What do we do now?” “I have no fucking idea,” Shannon half laughed, half sobbed. Eddie stood up and wrapped her in a hug, holding her to his chest.

The return (Mcdanno)
Tumblr media
Chapter 3 - Meeting (ka halawai)
Grace didnt know what to think when she walked into the NICU, this was not where she thought she was going to end up today. She was meeting Steve's kid, Steve had a kid, a daughter at that and she couldnt be happier for him.
Walking into the NICU, she was met with the faint beeping of the machines. She looks over towards the babies and her heart breaks a little at them, all of them all here for different reasons, some worse than others and that was a horrible thought. Steve holds out a pink gown like think for her to put over her clothes. It was the first time since seeing Steve that she relised he was wearing one himself. He smiled at her as she put on the gown and then he guided her over to the main area.
Inside there was about 6 babies all attached to different machines and it was a little overwhelming but then there was a little pod like thing in the corner of the room and she just knew that this was the little girl who she just had to meet. She and Steve walked over and as she saw the little girl her mouth fell open. The little girl had a little breathing tube coming out of her nose, and wires attached to her chest and was just so small, Grace felt tears come to her eyes. Steve looked over at her and put a hand on her back.
"Hey, shes okay. The doctors are doing a great job and she has got the best care that she could get," Steve assured her and then he pointed out all of the stuff.
"The breathing tubes are helping her breathe because her lungs arent fully developed. Nothing of hers is really fully developed but here she is as safe as she can be". Grace looks at Steve and cant help but smile at the sight of him. The look that he gave his little girl made her cry a little more. The love that he had for the little girl was evident.
"I like how you are the one asssuring me. She's your baby. And you have been pretty much sobbing since the moment i saw you" Grace said, wiping her eyes. Steve chuckles a little.
"Yeah, i guess i was but Gracie" he says looking at her. "Most of it was because i was just so happy to see you and your dad". Grace gives him a soft smile. She leans into Steve and leans her head on his shoulder.
"You are going to be a good father Uncle Steve".
Danny took a few minutes to himself before he ringing Tani. God this was going to be fun to explain. "Danny," Tani voice fills his ear.
"Hey, hows everything going over there".
"Everythings fine. Junior and Charlie are just playing in the backyard with Eddie. No cases have come up thankfully" she tells him and he sighs in relief.
"Yeah thats really good" he mutters out.
"So whats going on with Steve." Danny leans his head into his hand and then leans back in the chair a little bit.
"Um... Steve has a daughter". There is silence on the other side of the line for a minute.
"What do you mean he has a daughter, when did that happen" Tani asks confused. Danny lets out a big breathe before leaning forward again.
"He and Catherine met again the day he left and started a relationship again. They called quits a few months ago and Steve was going to come back to Hawaii but then Catherine found out she was pregnant. She ended up having HG and was in hospital for months and then after she got out she had a bunch of other health issues. She went into early labor and thats why we are here" Danny explains as simply as he can. He can hear movement on the other side of the phone, most likely Tani sitting down.
"Okay, but then why did Steve called all distressed. Was he having a bit of a new dad freak out" Tani asks jokingly and god Danny knew that she was going to feel horrible after what he had to tell her next.
"Tani... Catherine died". There was more silence. Danny looked down at the floor and sighed.
"She had a heart attack after the baby came and she was too weak to be saved". It takes another minute before Tani speaks.
"Hows the baby. Hows Steve?" Danny looks towards and shakes his head.
"The baby was born at 30 weeks and is the NICU and Steve... Steve was inconsolable when we came. Just kept crying... God Tani" Danny starts to cry. All of the feels taking over him like a wave and god he wished he would stop. He had to be strong.
"Danny. Hey. Listen to me, everything is going to be okay. You and Grace are there, that is what Steve needs right now is you two. And you said you were is Cedars, its one of the best hospitals in the entire country, number 1 in California. The baby is in the best hands there. And Steve... Steve will need some time but he will get better and with you Danny. He can do anything". Danny lets out a shaky breathe before leaning back in his chair and nodding.
"Yeah your right".
"I know i am. Now i have to ask, have you seen the little munchkin yet". Danny laughs.
"No i havent, Grace is in there with Steve. There is only 2 allowed in at a time. And munchkin really".
"Hey dont you judge me Danny William. I will give that baby any nickname that i want. And you better get photos. I am going to tell everyone the exciting news. And we want updates" she tells him and Danny just nods.
"Yeah i will keep you updated okay".
"Okay, well i better go and get these two lot in before they get too muddy, i do not want to clean Eddie today." Danny laughs knowing how much of a pain that dog is to clean, the amount of time he, Steve, Charlie and Grace have got soaked from cleaning him was too many to count at this point.
"Okay, well give me a ring later before Charlie goes to be tonight".
"Okay i will Danno".
"And Tani".
"Yeah".
"Can you not tell Charlie about the baby and Steve just yet. I want him to hear it from me first".
"Yeah sure, i'll tell Junior".
"Right. And Tani".
"Yes Danno".
"Tell Charlie i want to hear his virdict on whos pancakes were better".
The door of the NICU opens and Steve and Grace walk out. Grace has a smile on her face and she turns and hugs Steve. "Thank you for calling" she says to him and he smiles hugging her back.
"You are family Grace. I want you apart of my daughters life." Grace nods against him and Steve looks and Danny who is just smiling at the sight in front of him. Steve leans down to Grace and whispers to her.
"Lets not tell your dad the name yet. I want it to be a suprise." Grace nods and lifts her head to Steve.
"Want to be he is going to cry."
"Of course he is. Your dad cries at the dumbest movies," and the pair of them laugh.
"What are you two laughing at," Danny asks them as he stands up and walks towards them.
"Is it something about me," he asks and Steve and Grace look at each other with smirks on their face.
"No Danno its not about you," Grace says closer to him.
"Im going to go and get some coffee whilst you are in there. Do you want some Uncle Steve?"
"Yeah that would be great, Gracie. Thank you."
"I'll be back in a bit," she tells them before walking away leaving Danny and Steve alone together for the first time in two years. The pair stare at each other not knowing what to say.
"Do you want to come meet her," Steve asks causing Danny to nod at him.
Danny and Steve walk towards the baby after putting on their covers. Stopping in front of the incubator, Danny cant help but smile. This was Steves baby and she was so, so perfect. Danny loved her so much already.
"She's perfect Steve" Danny says first, smiling at the baby. The tubes and the wire were a little scary but Danny knew they were helping her.
"She is..." Steve trails. Danny turns to him and sees the worry on his face.
"Hey whats wrong," he asks. Steve lets out a shaky breathe
"When Catherine told me she was pregnant I was so scared. So scared that i was going to be a terrible parent but i felt better about it because at least Catherine was there. And now that she is gone... i am so scared i feel like the world is just going to suck me up Danno. I feel like i am constantly going to fail her... that im not good enough" Steve cries. Danny shakes his head and takes Steve in his arms.
"Hey, you listen to me Steve McGarrett. I know what that feels like, hell i still feel like then when it comes to Charlie and Grace but hey," Danny points and the baby girl. "She is going to love you. She is going to love you because you are her dad and you are going to be a god damn great dad to her. She is going to be the luckiest kid alive because you are her dad. And i know this because i have seen you with my kids and if you treat her like you treat them then she is going to be a very amazing girl, Steve. Yes there are going to be times were you mess up and feel like you are failing them but that is a part of being a parent." Steve looks at Danny and nods.
"You know you have gotten pretty good at the speech thing," Steve compliments and Danny raises his hands.
"I have always been good at the speech thing you have just never appreciated it before," Danny sasses and Steve laughs.
"God i missed this" Steve whispers and then there is the silence again. The silence were the both of them had so much to say but not knowing where to start.
"Danno I..." Steve starts but Danny puts his hand up.
"Steve, hey. Lets not do this now okay. Let focus of Baby McGarrett for now. And then umm we can discuss the whole other stuff later, okay," to which Steve nods knowing that he was right.
"Now, i am going to take some pictures because I have some very eager people awaiting pictures back home" Danny says fishing out his phone and snapping a picture.
"Now do we have a name for this little girl" Danny says while uploading the picture of Baby McGarrett onto the group chat that Tani had set up. Steve letss out a breathe.
"Me and Catherine never picked out a name. I mean we were arguing over a few names the past few weeks but nothing stuck out really."
"And what sort of names were you picking out. Because i can not imagine Steve McGarrett sitting reading through baby name lists."
"Well Catherine actually made me download this app and it was like baby name tinder."
"Did you just say baby name tinder."
"Yeah baby name tinder. Its a thing. You send a link to someone and your accounts link and then you swipe right or left on the names you like and then the name pops up if its a match," Steve explains and Danny raises his eyebrows.
"Now that is the smartest but dumbest thing that i have ever heard. I mean who thinks up of these things."
"I dont know Danno, its not like i messaged the guy asking him how he came up with his app concept," Steve argues.
"Hey im just say" Danny says putting his hands up in defence. Danny sighs looking at the baby, at this rate the poor thing was never going to have a name.
"Here look through it" Steve says as he holds out his phone. Danny looks at his confused.
"Look through what".
"The list of names me and Catherine liked. Pick one you like and then that will be her name," Steve explains and Danny holds a breathe.
"You want me to pick your childs name."
"Yes Danno that is exactly what i am asking you to do." Danny stares at Steve for a minute before looking down at the list on the phone. There wasnt many, five or so. Danny read through them all putting them together with Steves last name and there was only one that stuck out to Danny.
"Daisy." Steves eyes never leave his daughter as Danny says the name and he smiles at her. Daisy, that was her name, it was perfect.
"Now i am telling you now i am not helping you pick out her middle name. You can do that yourself" Danny says handing Steve his phone back over.
"I dont have to pick out a middle name. It suprisingly the only thing me and Catherine agreeded on."
"And what did you decide on."
"Dani" Steve tells him, now he had to see Dannys face and Steve swears he could see tears in the shorter mans eyes.
"Her middle name is Dani, after the pain in my ass but also my best friend" Steve explains and Danny nods his heads. He sniffles and wipes his nose before giving Steve a hug.
"Thanks man. I love you," Danny tells him pulling back from him.
"Your welcome and i love you too." Danny and Steve turn back looking at Daisy and smile.
"Dasiy Dani McGarrett. Great name. Everyone is going to love this" Danny says as he messages the groupchat the name and picture to follow that he didnt send before.
"Yeah its perfect," Steve says as he looks at his daughter.
"You know i am going to hold you to the fact that you let me help name your child over your head for the rest of your life right," Danny tells him. And all that Steve can do is chuckle and nod his head.
"Yeah i know Danno. I know."

Hawaii five 0 s8 commentary:
Part 1.
ep 1 x s8
- five 0 really do love introducing female characters in bikinis, or were they trying to make it even more obvious that tani is the new kono replacement?
- aww Danny asking Steve to be his partner in the whole restaurant thing is very sweet
- the torch is back again? Kinda thought his story was complete after the prison break with Adam, didn't he have this whole speech about being better of in prison?
- okay Steve worrying about tani being reckless and her not taking any of his shit and Danny being all "see, now you know how I feel all the time" is very funny
- oh so now you realize going into the middle of a raging wild fire was a bad idea, who would have thought?
- damn Danny is so used to Steve's bullshit he doesn't even fight it anymore
- they- he's taking the entire house? He's taking the entire house
- wow they're making it very very obvious that tani is supposed to be the new kono, okay
- omg so call me nuts but why does the whole restaurant thing feel like a weird metaphor for Steve and danny setteling down together? They talk like their gonna marry- I feel like I'm hallucinating
ep 2
- I may be a cat person but that is one cute dog- and he has such a nice owner and - oh no I know how this is gonna go
- nononono don't hurt the doggo! IS HE GONNA BE OKAY?!
- don't show me this fucking junior guy I need to know if the dog is okay!
- Steve what do you mean, you've never been married? You and danny have been basically married for at least 5 years now. And since when are you uncomfortable talking about Steve's feelings Danny?? what are you two talking about??
- yes finally someone goes looking for the poor puppy! Oh no the poor baby's hurt 🥺Tho I'm a little confused I thought Danny was the dog person? Why is Steve suddenly so invested and not danny? Did the powers that be forget the whole Mr. Pickles thing?
- people how am I supposed to care about the plot if I don't know if the dog is gonna make it!
- poor eddie is such a good boy, I would literally die for him 🥺 he's gonna be okay! oh thank goodness
- "I thought you were a cat person " (thank you Danny!)
"I guess he grew on me"
Steve why you looking at Danny while saying that? Don't tell me the dog is supposed to be a parallel to him
-god damn it, pets mourning their lost owners always gets me :'(
ep 3
- I swear the whole restaurant thing feels like Steve and danny planning their wedding-
Kamekona did not just pull out a mcdanno shirt -
I can't with this show anymore
- eyyyy bootleg James bond is back! And steve is talking about "our" retirement plan? Just make them an official married couple already!
- come on Harry, you don't gotta roast their restaurant idea like that especially after they agreed to let you tagalong
- I love how mcdanno exchange judging looks whenever Harry trys to sweet talk someone, true couple goals right there
- man the whole police-violence-played-for-laughs-thing especially against poc really didn't age well
- okay so 10 bucks harry's the secret bad guy
- eww no don't flirt with tani harry, that's just weird! I swear what is it with Hollywood and old men hitting on girls that aren't even half their age
- Damn Harry really just went and called Steve and danny out for for being in love and unable to live without each other and they didn't deny anything
- okay nvm Harry isn't the bad guy it's just some random dude who lost a kid, and apparently Harry lost someone important to him?
- naww they boys are cooking for them- aaand fighting - oh man, this could have been such a nice little gesture, why you gotta ruin it for a joke? I mean I know their probably just setting up the restaurant idea failing which- I'm kinda sad about because it could have been an actual nice retirement thing to end the show on somewhere down the line, but I guess not
ep 4
- I love how Lou talks to steve like he's making an investment without asking his husband (which let's be real he definitely is)
- the use of the term "partner" is becoming more and more ambiguous by the second
- rip toast he was a nice dude, at least before he became loaded
- naww not Steve being all smug about Danny calling Hawaii home
- no kamekona! don't hurt him🥺
- better call your son dude you don't fuck with Steve's family
- kamekona really did a fuck tone of good ever since he made it out of prison, it's really nice that he finally gets some recognition for that
- so junior is homeless? Really explains a lot of stuff about why he's so desperate to be five 0
-aww and steve adopts him right away and tani too, the man really does collect strays like Pokémon
ep 5
- aw grace brought Steve a pumpkin for Halloween? guess she's growing up to be a Halloween lover just like her dad
- so 10 min in and already Alicia triggered Steve's mommy-issues
-Alicia honey, Steve has like five adopted children already and is a pretty intense dude maybe it be good to have someone else take care of your deeply traumatized daughter if this doesn't go well?
- tani:"so there's this hot demi-god"
"top or bottom?" Danny asking the important question
- love me some good folklore inspired murders
- so the clay maxwell thing still isn't over? poor Lou hasn't the guy has put him through enough?
- I love that their bringing eddie along everywhere now, he's the best new addition to the team <3
- so love that Danny is also along for them search of the killer but isn't that kind of a bad idea with his busted arm?
-huh tani and junior are clicking fast guess there's a romance about to happen
- hey and Lou is finally getting closure for the dian thing, that's great!

Had another season of Hawaii 5-0 happened, I feel like Steve would have come back to Danny not being there. Not permanently gone, but gone away for a bit.
Gone back to New Jersey to deal with something (like a childhood friend needing his help solving a case or something). Steve gets home, and poor Junior has to tell him that Danny is in NJ, which makes Steve panic because "he belongs here!"
Steve shows up in NJ, and tries to drag Danny home, only to be sucked into the case, because "I'm not leaving my friend hanging, Steven!" and Steve helps solve the case, just to be able to go home.
Once Steve and Danny are home, they're chilling on the couch with Eddie, and Danny asks him how his trip was. Steve just ignores him and snuggles in for their patented McDanno cuddle. When the gang arrive, they're not phased at all, so used to said cuddles. Lincoln maybe the only one confused a bit.
Junior and Tani would tell them that they're moving in together. Steve has a Steve conniption at his roommate leaving, until Lou points out that it means Charlie has a room at the house, which calms him down (because he loves the kid, and totally thinks that setting up a room means that Charlie will spend the night more).
When asked about Catherine, Steve'll shrug and say "I don't know, I left her on that first plane." And all is well in the world.
Eddie is just so happy his Dads are home.
Obviously, more storylines and all, but this would be the first 2 episodes.

Season 9 of H50 is interesting. I saw someone mention a lack of McDanno “I Love You” moments. But what I see is Steve now working on training Tani and Junior to take on a bigger role in 50 after Danny retires. Yes, it gave Scott family time. But it actually makes sense that he assigns the relative newbies to Danny and himself to teach them things. In 9.02, he even tells Danny that, when Steve’s there, Danny defers to him to take charge of the kids. I think Steve worries about what 50 will be without him.
