Ceroba finding Chujin’s “award” and being so proud of him, even tho it was just a “You Tried…”  I don’t care how bad things got later, the love and devotion in this family is heart-wrenching.  (And, like, they’re not the first family in these games to pull insane crap because of love, amirite?)

I don't think I'm an expert on the whole Ketsukane tragedy but I'm pretty sure the second Chujin started being reckless and doing those SOUL experiments, that inevitably brings the rest of the family down with him like a house of cards. Yeah for sake of argument Ceroba and Kanako could've made better choices and stopped it early, but 1. they most likely wouldn't with who and how they were and 2. they both lost a loved one i don't think anyone there can be expected to be very reasonable ngl.
NO FR I AGREE WITH YOU COMPLETELY. everyone always points blame at ceroba for obvious reasons but like. chujin is at the core of the familys downfall. if chujin focused on supporting his daughter more after the integrity attack instead of sending axis to tear them to pieces and then hoarding the SOUL things would’ve turned out so differently. Everything that happens from there is just a domino effect really, ESPECIALLY him tasking his wife, who has no real knowledge about SOUL research, with continuing his work after his death, basically assuring his cycle of reckless behaviour continues from the grave

(original au post was getting kind of long... so time for a new one)
something happy for a change? kanako, stuck in her timeloop still, suddenly arrives upon a happier ending, in which clover decides to stay in the underground.
(more info below as always)
~ Sunshine Ending (Sunflower)
after the horrifying events of the previous ending (in which the ketsukane estate burns down with the two inside of it), kanako wakes up once more the very moment she died in that house.
Tumblr media
isn't this becoming too much...? how long can she go on like this? the one time she tried to use force to make clover stay, it ended in disaster. she didn't want this.
that is, of course, until ceroba finally steps in. she finds her daughter like this and realizes that something is definitely going on. she puts away her lab coat, casting her research aside for the moment. some things are more important; she can't believe she let herself forget that. kanako needs her.
so, they start going outside and into town together. starlo and his crew are delighted to see ceroba out and about for once... she'd really become more of a hermit these past few years.
for once, kanako isn't alone. so when she spots a particular bluebird accompanying a human in Oasis Valley, she thinks that this could actually be her chance. things are different, now...
and things do play out differently. or, maybe more familiarly...? starlo sees a trusty sharpshooter deputy in clover and takes them in for training. ceroba is able to start off on the right foot with clover as well, being able to see them more as a person than an opportunity for research.
but maybe most importantly, kanako gets the chance to grow close to clover more naturally, as true friends. there's no rush or desperate force like before; for once, it seems like clover actually wants to stay.
with all of them together, kanako realizes why.
ah... i think i understand now. having one friend is good, but that's not really what you wanted, was it?
you... wanted a family, right? support, and company... more than just me alone.
it feels like there should be a sting there -- kanako not being "enough" to get clover to stay -- but strangely, it really doesn't hurt. seeing clover happy, having fun, making friends...
after last time, this feels like all she could have ever asked for.
the two become like siblings. (where have I heard this before?) they get into Shenanigans and all that fun stuff. the ketsukane estate is admittedly far nicer than the breaking house starlo and co. stay in, so clover begins to share kanako's room. every night is like a sleepover...!
they have fun, lots of fun together. ceroba hushes them, urging them to sleep in the early hours of the morning after they stayed up so late talking and giggling. kanako never has to eat another meal alone. clover is surprisingly good at mew mew love blaster. every day is so fun and exciting. this is what she had dreamed of for so long now -- the things she wanted all those previous times. she really just needed a little help to make it actually happen.
she's so happy. everything is perfect. she's satisfied, finally.
Tumblr media
so...
so then, why...
why, after so long,
does she wake up again in an empty bedroom, back where she started?

What would happen if clover got turn into a fox monster/kitsune.
Would Ceroba be like yep totally adopted or like this is clover ketsukane and now who ever you think this is ?
(( scound Question know any good fox clover or clover monster au were there a fox monster/kitsune. ))
Tumblr media
I think if Clover somehow turned into a Kitsune, they would live with Ceroba because she obviously knows better how to take care of a child of her kind than Starlo and Martlet
She would instill a love for her culture, but Clover would still be the same Clover, Ceroba wouldn't make them wear kimonos all the time and follow her family's traditions if they didn't want to
I think I've seen a couple of arts of Clover as a Kitsune, but I'm not sure if there's a whole AU about it or if it's just one art :p

Part of the reason why I defend Ceroba so much is that I initially didn't like her character. Her personality is pretty big from what we saw of her with her quips with Starlo in the Wild East, so when she joined up with Clover in my Pacifist playthrough, I was expecting... more from her. Instead she stuck to the sidelines for the fights (understandable since it would've been dumb to take fighting away from the player) and almost all she would talk about was her husband and his accomplishments and meanwhile she was just a housewife. Then I found out that she injected her daughter with an experimental serum and was like "Oh, she just straight up sucks :/" I felt shafted, cheated out of an interesting character because it felt like there was more to her and then she was just your standard-fare housewife who loves and supports her husband and daughter.
But then on a subsequent playthrough, I started paying attention to what she was saying more and thinking about her and I realized "Holy shit, that's the point!!" Ceroba is a character who placed so much blind faith in her husband that she let it cloud her judgement. That's why she injected her daughter with chemicals. She saw her husband as this flawless, larger-than-life character and that's why she let herself recede into his shadow. She wasn't the supportive housewife by choice; that's what she had to become in their relationship so Chujin could continue being the altruistic hero of the Underground. She couldn't have hobbies and be her own person if she was taking care of Kanako and making sure the family had money and food on the table, meanwhile her husband is doing fuck all to contribute. I felt cheated because life cheated her out of the chance to be her own character. It all makes sense now! Ceroba Ketsukane, I love you forever and I'm sorry that there are people out there that don't get you.

Opinions on Undertale Characters? [Yes that includes the Yellow ones... for obvious reasons]
Love them. Toby Fox did a masterpiece of writing Undertale and Mastersword did a phenomenal job making a prequel that made me cry at the Pacifist ending. And he did such a banger job at writing Flowey's character before the events of canon Undertale.
Though I do see some flaws in some characters. Toriel left Asgore, and her kingdom after war was declared on humanity from the deaths of her children. Instead of taking action to prevent this, she fled like a coward. And what's worse, where she could've accompanied the fallen children, she just left them to go out and die, knowing they didn't stand a chance against the Monsters of the Underground. In a way, she isn't any better than Asgore since she was indirectly responsible for those kids deaths.
Asgore never wanted war, he regretted his decree after his anger had simmered down. His children are gone, his wife left him, and now he has burdened his people with war, even if they hold onto hope of seeing the sun again. And it makes me wonder... What would have happened if he did acquire all 7 human souls? Would he have gone through with it?
For Undertale Yellow, my biggest issue is how Ceroba and Chujin's relationship is portrayed and its downfall. Chujin was an engineer, and probably a good one for that matter (With the space heater at the Honeydew Resort and possibly the filter in the Oasis?) but when making Axis he overlooked casualties. He let his ego think what he made was perfect, and that costed him his job. And instead of being honest with his wife, the person he should TRUST the most to confine to, he lied. Said he retired. And then blows all their savings to make a huge house. Ceroba had to take a job she hated while he traveled around the Underground. And his grudge against humans and his fear that if another one fell it'd be worse than the Snowdin Attack, he experimented with things he could not understand. And he withered away day by day, and on his death bed he burdens his wife to carry on his legacy. A legacy she had NO idea about, and quite frankly how was she suppose to? She didn't have the smarts like him.
Ceroba was so blindsided that her husband was perfect in every way, that whatever he did was for the benefit of Monsterkind. Serums can't make a Monster stronger, we've seen this with the DT and Integrity substances being put into Monsters. The only way for someone to be stronger from a human soul is to absorb it, not extract from it. Though that could likely mean two people would be at the steering wheel, human and monster, and it could be disastrous.
I'm not saying Ceroba's a bad mom when she used the serum on her daughter. It was a desperate act to fulfill Chujin's legacy, and despite his wishes to keep Kanako out of it, she gave in when she pleaded for her mom to inject her with it.
The contrast between the Dreemurs and Ketsukane families are just that: Mistakes that their children pay for. Asgore burdens himself and his people with war. Chujin burdens Ceroba with his legacy. Toriel thinks she's good by protecting the children who fall, but ultimately their blood is on her hands regardless. Ceroba believes what she does in UTY is for the benefit of Monsterkind, but it only hurts the people she cares about.
Chara was pressured to be the hope of Monsterkind, willing them to have their brother take their soul and retrieve more souls only for it to fail horribly, and thus they both perish. Kanako was the same, wanting to be used for a untested serum so she could help Monsterkind, only for it to make her fall down and eventually turn into an Amalgamate.
PHEW! Jeez, I really rambled on there didn't I?

Let's pull this trigger. What happens when teenage Kanako finally gets to "that" memory; where her mom was driven to the point of begging Clover for death. How does she react when she gets to the memory of Clover following through and killing her, of Clover killing all of her loved ones, of Clover killing everyone. How does Clover react to Kanako finding out.
Oh boy... Deciding to pull both triggers, uh? Well...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, first of all. Because she saw Clover's point of view, she didn't get the same reaction as Starlo. She saw what happened... And she understands that Clover was put in a hard spot for a kid to be in. But after seeing that... She just blames herself even harder for the serum accident. As I mentioned before in another post, Kanako blames herself for the serum accident. But seeing that her mom being driven to the point of begging for death just makes her hate herself even more.
Clover just feels guilty over Kanako having to see his past actions. And hates himself because of all of his actions.
Now about Kanako seeing the runs where Clover killed people. I want to explain one thing first. So the Clover's runs after Flowey chances the route are this Flawed Pacifist - multiple Neutral routes - Genocide - then Pacifist and Flowey giving up. The reason why there are multiple neutral routes is because Clover didn't just start killing everyone. Flowey was slowly manipulating Clover to kill more monsters in each run. For example, in the first Neutral run, Clover only killed some of the Dark Ruins monsters, the second Neutral run, he killed half, and in the fourth, he wiped out all the Dark Ruins but spared everyone else. So it took multiple runs to manupulate Clover to kill everyone.
And because Kanako has these dreams in order, she sees Clover slowly starting to kill everyone. Starting in runs where Clover kills monsters that she barely knows. So she gets a mentally headstart to the crap she's going to see. But it's still really traumatizing, killing her family and friends in those memories.
But unlike Flawed Paifist, she gets filled with anger after those memories. Not at Clover. But towards the one who manipulated and used her little brother and used him as a puppet to kill everyone she loves.
Let's just say...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That Kanako despises golden flowers in her teen years forward.
Creator notes: I'm sorry that this took a while. But I just wanted to work on the dialogue to show that this is not a "And everyone lived happily ever after" type of AU. Trauma and guilt isn't just going to disappear like that because there was a happy ending. And this is the plot point in the AU where I wanted to hit the nail on the head that the Ketsukane's are still haunted by the past. So I tried to work on the dialogue until I was happy with the result. Because as a creator you need to be the first to be happy with your work before everyone else.

Hey just to let you know long ask incoming, put on your helmet and duck below the trenches
OKAY. WHOA. YOU WEREN'T KIDDING.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Had to put it in screenshots cuz it'll flood but oh my god you mad man. I was giggling the entire time reading this, knowing there's people who are still interested in the DD!AU despite having little to no updates hsajdhsajdas 〒▽〒
Sorry it took a while for me to answer this, I've been trying to find a way muster up a proper response so here I go!
Tumblr media
"...did he ever really care about her? All she needs to do is perfect the serum."
Okay, putting my bias aside, yes, he did in fact love Ceroba but that's it, they love each other a lot. He just wanted to pursue his work more. Motherfucker is no less delusional than Starlo, he thinks he can save monsterkind if he can just perfect the serum and take revenge on the humans and it makes me sick knowing he planned to have a big family with Ceroba, have you seen how huge the manor is? He can't even take care of one child and yet he wanted more. That's Chujin Ketsukane in a nutshell, he wanted more, he wanted to pursue more because of how ambitious he is. He's unarguably worse than Starlo, he thinks he can save everyone, built a secret underground basement that he hid from his wife, and passed on his dying wish to said wife when he barely even finds time for her because he prioritizes his work more, he KILLED a CHILD and literally broke the laws of robotics, left said wife to work all by herself to stay afloat, the list goes on you get the point. Bias is back, there's nothing you can do to convince me to like Chujin, I will admit he's a good character but that's all you're going to shake out of me, I don't like him, he seems to be the type to have a superiority complex.
Tumblr media
"Notably, when Kanako collapses, the first question she asks is 'Why did I work on that serum !?', it's 'Why didn't it work !?'."
I'm going to assume you meant Ceroba questioned why the serum didn't work instead of her coming to her senses and why she worked on it in the first place? Her blind adoration for Chujin baffles me when all he's ever done was pursue his career and what he stood for, but what baffles me even more is even Chujin himself said not to use the serum on Kanako and yet SHE STILL DID. She went against her husband's wishes, and still… what… okay I'm genuinely stumped on this part my brain just shut down.
Tumblr media
"if i cannot be wanted, i will be needed and if i cannot be needed, let me be used until there's nothing left of me"
NO BECAUSE THAT'S LITERALLY EVERYONE Dalv - wanting to protect Kanako but failed (also adding he wants to be a teacher) Martlet - wanting to be useful so she joined the royal guard Starlo - wanting to distract everyone from being trapped underground Ceroba - wanting to pursue Chujin's legacy underground and making them happy Clover - their parents
Tumblr media
"And she realizes she was so tunnel visioned that she didn't see Clover for what they really were - a lost child out of their depth, someone with nobody to look out for them."
THIS. THIS THIS THIS THIS POINTING VERY LOUD. CLOVER IS JUST A CHILD!!!!!!!
What bothered me a lot about Clover was they seemed so mature for their age, that was the impression I got from them the entire time playing uty, the way they handled everything just broke my heart, especially with pacifist Starlo's boss fight, they knelt down and surrendered in front of him, from the very beginning Clover was ready to offer their life and that was before even finding out about Ceroba's plan which happens right after that when they go to the Steamworks. They're so nonchalant about everything (imagine my surprise when I saw people drawing them all energetic and cutesy hihi ^^), and the fact that some bits and pieces of their hinted neglect at home just, augh. Just paint a picture with me, your entire life you were emotionally neglected, you're just a mere child who's trying to make it through life, doing the chores all by yourself, eating things you shouldn't, and your damn favorite TV show is just pure static until you decide to go to Mt. Ebott and jump down a hole holding a missing poster to look for the missing children, not knowing you could be next (and you were). To your surprise you see the world of your dreams, there were monsters, but these monsters cared and loved you, there were a few bumps on the road but in the end, they all genuinely cared, even offering you to stay with them, but after you find out about their situation… you offer your soul for their sake. Isn't that so cruel? You finally have a chance to be alive, experience what it's like to be loved, and finally act like a kid only to die on the same day? Such a tragic and twisted fate.
Tumblr media
"It was Clover's choice and it was Kanako's choice too, and Chujin's, and if Ceroba's not careful it'll kill her next."
heh

My version of Axis in my aus! I actually did this before my Dalv, that's why they have different presentation styles. I really wanted to give him some sort of Steamworks uniform, blending elements from security guard & mechanic uniforms.
And added some general accent colours & details to make him more distinct from canon! The glowing streaks are based off @/axis014s' art!! I love their interpretation of him a lot.
In the human au, I imagine him to have the perseverance trait! And he's Ceroba & Chujin's biological child. Taking more after my Chujin than Ceroba, although he does have some traits from his mother. (I imagine him to be in his mid to late 20s, he's programmed to be around that age in his robot versions)
Some design notes for my Axis!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also hc that he takes the surname Ketsukane after the events of the game, I want him to be part of the family so bad you don't get it guys-

Behold: Art based upon one of my own asks
Tumblr media
Not pictured: Ceroba possibly scolding her kids for getting paint stains on their clothes (likely through tears)
I thought it'd be boring to just make the mask the exact same as the old one, so now it's got Clover's little Star tufts and the Ketsukane ears, plus paint to represent all three living (sorry Chujin) part-fox (sorry Martlet) Ketsukanes (yes, the gray on the mask is paint and NOT Kanako Goop)
Also I'd imagine that Martlet would have any woodworking tools under intense lock and key since she has one child who can, will, and has eaten anything and one child who has a whole family of conmen (consnakes?) living in her hair, so she would understandably not trust them with her supplies if left alone. The point I'm getting to here is that Martlet was probably out, so Clover had to use their claws to carve the mask which would definitely have taken a while (it's hard to see, but I included some saw dust on Clover's right hand
Tumblr media
see?)
I'm just imagining the little Zelda "Get Item" sound here when they present the mask to Ceroba, doesn't help with how I made them presenting it
WAAAA THIS IS SO CUTE!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE MASK DESIGN AND THE THOUGHT YOU PUT INTO IT!?!?
like the fact that clover has wooddust on their claws bc they would have to carve it by hand like…. thats such a fun little detail!!! this isSO GOOD im so obsessed with the amount of thought u put into this!!!!

Would That I
Ceroba and Starlo dance after the end. Ceroba isn’t sure how to feel about what she’s risking here. After all, even if he’s not around anymore, what would Chujin think?
Fic title from Would That I by Hozier.
AO3 link:
Pairing: Ceroba Ketsukane/Starlo
The Wild East is fairly calm, after everything. Not that Ceroba is trying to really pay attention to it right now. It’s hard to really pay attention to anything.
Through her grief, her childhood best friend stays by her side. He makes sure each day that she’s doing alright, cares for her in such a gentle way that Ceroba starts to see the differences between the wild sheriff, North Star, and her shy, yet excitable friend, Starlo. She also starts to see how they mesh together. How his own grief has affected him.
Truth is, even if the root of all their problems is different, Ceroba can tell the grief she holds for Clover is shared. Starlo was starting to love that kid like family, and she knows that. She could tell in the way he was so proud of them when they were still here, how he couldn’t bear to look at Clover’s soul once they had left it with the King, and how he had cried at their final send-off for the kid, even if she was the only one to know.
Ceroba, inexplicably, sees Chujin in him, as much as she doesn’t want to. Sure, they’re both really different, but if there was one thing Ceroba knew her late husband as, it would be a father who loved his family. She sees the same in Starlo. Someone who loved and lost someone they considered almost like a child.
She shouldn’t be thinking that, though.
Thus: the quiet of the Wild East. North Star isn’t the type to show his grief, even when it’s been a long time since it started. Starlo is. Starlo can’t always contain it, and Ceroba doesn’t think she wants him to. So, he’s been a bit more distant from the town lately, staying with Ceroba and allowing them to work through everything together, slowly but surely, one step at a time.
It isn’t all bad, really. They’re best friends. Ceroba trusts him. She also just can’t help but see the ghosts of her past around him. A fall, a twisted ankle. Chujin ripping his red robe to help her. Starlo taking the time to safely wrap the injury. A child’s enthusiasm. Chujin by Kanako’s side, teaching her how to play the game he programmed for her. Starlo teaching young monsters in the Wild East about westerns and making safe missions for them. A quiet night. Chujin holding her. Starlo–
“‘Roba?”
Ceroba shakes her head, and looks up. The saloon is lively tonight, songs from a local band carrying through the building. By her side, Starlo watches her, concern shining in his eyes. “Everythin’ alright?”
Right. She… really shouldn’t be thinking about things like this. She doesn’t think she’d ever want to hurt Chujin like that, even if he’s gone. “Yeah,” she says, and she can tell Starlo doesn’t believe her. “Don’t worry about it,” she adds, taking a sip of the drink Dina made for her. “I still can’t believe you managed to drag me to this little party of yours.”
Truth is, it wasn’t Starlo’s idea. His posse had been the ones to think of it after the town got too quiet, asking Ceroba for ways they could get Starlo to enjoy a bit of fun after being out of it for so long. She had told them music and friends would be enough. She knows well from the time they’ve spent together, both in the past and now, that Starlo loves the community he built. Even if he may not be active enough to be back to his full North Star self, he’d probably just enjoy being around the people he loves.
Of course, he hadn’t known she had a part in it when he asked her to come with him, and originally she had thought he’d be going with his posse, but— she’d be a fool to believe she wasn’t going to tag along.
“It took a bit of convincin’,” Starlo replies, a smirk on his lips. “But y’know you can’t say no to me.”
“I can, actually,” Ceroba retorts, and snickers as her friend is briefly knocked out of his confident persona. “Cool it, Star. You know I’m messing with you.”
Starlo huffs, and takes a sip of his own drink. Ceroba absentmindedly notes the way his starry, freckled cheeks have flushed, glowing with teal light, and stifles another laugh. He’s awfully cute when he’s flustered.
Wait–
She turns away again. In the back of her mind, she can hear what she wants to think is Chujin’s spirit scolding her. What is she even thinking? Instead, she tries to focus on the sound of the music around her, gentle guitar strums and a singer’s voice through the building. White noise from the chatter and laughter of monsters numbs her mind and worries, offering a brief moment of respite.
And just like that, her friend’s voice enters her mind again. She can hear him, among the music and the white noise, humming along to the song being played in the saloon, mumble-singing the lyrics. She glances back over to him, and smiles. “You know the song?”
He nods and keeps humming, only briefly pausing to speak. “Yeah! I’ve heard them play this one from time to time back in Oasis Valley, when me and Orion are takin’ care of the corn stands. I always enjoyed hearin’ it.”
He keeps humming along to the tune, mumble-singing a bit more clear. Ceroba listens, turning one of her fox-like ears toward him to make sure the other noise is drowned out. It’s no secret to anyone: Starlo is a good singer. Sunnyside genes, Ceroba supposes. That whole family sings well— she’s heard it herself, visiting their home back when she was a kid. Whether it was the group of them singing in the corn field to pass the time during the harvest, or just them on their own, she had always made sure to listen to Starlo.
Can anyone blame her for that, though? Who wouldn’t listen to a good voice, especially when you don’t hear it often? It’s not like Starlo sings much nowadays, especially when he’s playing the role of North Star. Tonight seems to be an exception.
“If you’re going to sing, Star,” Ceroba begins, quietly, “you can sing it louder. It isn’t like everyone’s judging you.”
Starlo’s cheeks flush again, and he laughs. “Nah, ‘s okay. I’ll be fine. Besides, I think I’d rather—“ he slips off the chair, “do somethin’ else.”
Ceroba expects him to start getting ready to leave, having spent his social battery for the night, but instead he reaches out a hand to his best friend, open, inviting. “May I ask for a dance, ‘Roba?”
Ceroba freezes. She can hear Chujin’s voice in the back of her mind, telling her she shouldn’t do it. She shouldn’t take Starlo’s hand. Shouldn’t take the risk– the risk of forgetting the one she once loved, the risk of loving again, the risk of losing it all. She toils over the option in her mind, knowing full well she shouldn’t just leave him hanging.
She sucks in a deep breath. Starlo’s hopeful smile wavers.
Screw it. Ceroba takes his hand. “Anything for you, Star.”
He grins, wider than Ceroba’s ever seen him smile in the recent days, and glances over to the bartender. “Hey, Dina! Put my and Ceroba’s drinks on my tab!”
After Dina laughs and nods, they’re off. Ceroba follows Starlo to a more open space in the saloon, guided by a gentle touch. The song from the band continues to echo around her. When they’re there, she looks up at Starlo, and then glances around. Her ears flick, and flatten as she sees the faces of some of the townspeople turned toward them. Starlo quietly calls her name, though, and she quickly turns her attention back to him.
“We don’t have to stay out here, if you don’t want to,” he murmurs, dropping the faux accent for a moment as he offers an out, and Ceroba squeezes his hand.
“It’s not like we haven’t been seen around each other before. We’ve been there for each other through everything. Whatever anyone says can’t faze me anymore.”
Starlo hums, and swallows. “Right.” Shakily, he places a hand on her waist, and Ceroba notes the break in the persona, a bit of her best friend’s anxiety shining through. “Are you sure this is okay?”
Ceroba nods, and places her arms around his neck. “Just… keep singing,” she says, and curses internally at how direct she’s being. “I like how it sounds.”
From this close, she can see the way Starlo’s blush lights the rims of his glasses, mostly hidden by the shadow of his hat. “Of course,” Starlo promises, and begins to dance with her.
Ceroba knows she shouldn’t enjoy it as much as she does. She shouldn’t be laser-focused on Starlo’s voice, shouldn’t be focused on the way they glide through the open space together, seamlessly, like they’ve done this a thousand times over. She shouldn’t be grinning, shouldn’t be laughing along as her friend spins and dips her for a portion of the song. She shouldn’t be back to taking his hand, shouldn’t let herself be held so gently. There’s love in Starlo’s touch, warm and comforting to her aching heart, and Ceroba knows. She doesn’t understand why she’s not pulling away.
Maybe it’s that they’re best friends. Maybe it’s that she knows Starlo, knows he won’t make her do anything she doesn’t want to. Maybe it’s that she’s been getting close with him again, craving his presence through their highs and lows. But she also knows it’s just a dance, nothing more to anyone watching.
Chujin would be furious. And yet, she stays right where she is.
Maybe, just maybe, her arms wrapped once more around the sheriff’s neck, both of them grinning and singing along like they’re kids again, she’s happy she took the risk.

I got what I asked for, so here are my Deltarune Yellow Ideas! Feel free to comment or send me askes on these guys/the storyline. I have way more ideas I didn’t list here.
This is… very long, so be warned. Designs coming soon.
DALV
-Nothing changes too much, still socially awkward
-Friends with the Ketsukanes, but nowhere near Starlo’s level.
-The snowdin attack never happened. He was actually friends with the Integrity human, and they would help him look after baby Kanako if Starlo was away.
-That is, until they disappeared out of the blue. Now he has anxiety over that instead.
-Writes books for a living. He also babysat Kanako and Clover when they were younger.
-Used to help out on Starlo’s farm.
-One of Kanako’s friends.
MARTLET
-Design is mostly the same.
-No royal guard to join, so she went to college instead. Now that she’s graduated, she’s currently unemployed and living with her mom.
-Still helps Chujin out with building/carpentry, but doesn’t feel good enough to start a business.
-One of Clover’s friends, like a sister to them.
-Met Asriel at college. They didn’t get along.
STARLO
-A farmer. Takes more pride in farming than his UTY counterpart.
-Still loves cowboys/western media, but he’ll only dress up as them in the safety of his own backyard.
-Still has a crush on Ceroba but knows he’ll most likely never be with her, so he just tries to be the best for Kanako he can be.
-Has his own house now! His ‘posse’ are just his high school friends. They’ll talk about western stuff a lot with him but won’t go much farther than that.
-One of Clover’s friends. Pretty much their dad, but hasn’t been able to officially adopt them.
CEROBA
-Still dresses up the same as in UTY
-Her and Chujin are practically the founders of the town (This is not hometown, by the way.)
-The whole family would be considered intimidating if everyone didn’t know them already.
-Clover lives with her + her family , but they don’t think they consider them family.
-Shows a bit of favoritism towards Kanako, but she’s working on it.
-Stay at home mom.
CHUJIN
-Still an engineer, but when not at work he uses most of his skills for carpentry and woodworking.
-No Snowdin attack, so he isn’t as distrustful of humans. He's just glad Kanako seems happy to have Clover.
-Programmed a video game for Kanako called ‘Belowstory’
KANAKO
-Doesn’t like to dress how she does in UTY. She dressed like that when she was younger, but now prefers to look more like her peers.
-Loved western stuff when she was younger, but sometime after Clover arrived she decided cowboys were lame and she liked superheroes (another predominantly human thing) more.
-Recently decided cowboys actually are better.
-Amazing at art and piano, gets good grades and everybody loves her! Nevermind the fact that she feels stressed and pressured.
-Minor envy issues with Clover. Feels like they don’t have to be impressive to be liked.
-Considers Clover a sibling.
CLOVER
-Considers Kanako a cousin.
-Major jealousy issues with Kanako. Feels like they’ll never be as good and loved as her. They aren’t good with sharing.
-‘Works’ at Starlo’s farm (they volunteer on afternoons and he pays them allowance)
-Shares a room with Kanako.
-The orphanage they escaped from didn’t bother to educate the kids there, so Ceroba homeschools them until they can catch up with others their age.
-Got made co-deputy with Kanako. Felt like their western thing was the only thing separating them from being nothing but ‘Kanako’s friend.’
AXIS
-Yes, he exists.
-Instead of being a royal guard robot, he was made to be Kanako’s companion before Clover came along.
-Currently confined to the basement because of his limited power source.
-Knew Integrity before their sudden disappearance.
