Ophelia

Mentioned this once but Bleeding Hearts, native to Asia from what I remember. They’re very beautiful and pink just like her but when touched, they can cause rashes and skin irritation and when consumed, can be lethal. I was gonna go for a Belladonna (Deadly Nightshade) as an ode to Lana Del Rey because Ophelia is very much based off of the coquette aesthetic (mostly 40s-50s old money sort of? That Dior Paris chic kind) but it was kinda too on the nose and the flower didn’t quite suit her. So. Bleeding Hearts! Because she can make hearts bleed from how beautiful she is and also because of her knife :3

Enir/Ùlfr

Mountain Avens are flowers native to Iceland where Enir is from. Holtasóley is their name in Icelandic. Despite Enir being, well, a diablerist little fuck that’s trying to NOT get beckoned alongside their two elder besties (found family), Holtasóley represent innocence. Kind of ironic considering they’re on like the lowest humanity out of their entire coterie. I associate it with them since it’s what they were found surrounded by during their torpor before getting picked up by a Ventrue and a Nosferatu

Vivienne

Azaleas mean home in China. Which is what Vivienne desires and years for the entire time I played her—trying to search for it in ofher people and ultimately, finding only one person that makes him feel the safety of home in their girlfriend Chiyaki. Chiyaki then tells him that he deserves to find his own peace, her own happiness. Vivienne became scourge due to the prince being their adoptive sire and therefore giving Vivienne a place in the hierarchy, a “home” if you will. But really, is that what Vivienne wants? Vivienne actually gives her girlfriend a bouquet of azaleas before leaving for London (me leaving the chronicle after some personal beef sorry lmao)

Rosemary

Would have said “roses” but to be honest, as much as I draw her around roses, he’s not really rose coded. They’re very marigolds coded to me not because my brother’s chosen name is that but because marigolds represents power and strength. Rosemary is ALL about strength. The petals are vibrant much like Rosemary herself. But also they represent loss of someone, the dead. Rosemary is haunted by death, with the diablerie of Aila and even the people she’s killed with her own hands. But still, marigolds represents perseverance and determination, both of which are the foundations of RM’s entire character and attitude when it comes to unlife. An unbreaking, determined fighter that’s never gonna back down. (And also because Marigolds is a Nirvana song lmao)

machete is like a delicate looking white flower, one where the petals turn transparent when it rains. vasco is a marigold for many reasons.

Ooo I like that! It never even crossed my mind to assign marigolds to Vasco, but it makes perfect sense. I had to look it up but the flower that turns transparent in the rain is called skeleton flower, and yeah, I can see how that would fit Machete.

I tend to associate irises, damask roses, and forget-me-nots with Vasco

There's something so incredibly wholesome about Ace encouraging someone to live for themselves because he's been (or is still, depending on how you look at it) in their position before.

Ace might not think that he's loved, too entrenched in his father's legacy and what other people have told him when he was younger, but even when he believes that blood relation isn't something that can be chosen, what's important is that you become something great beyond blood or titles, that the path that you go on is what you choose for yourself.

Yamato saying that Ace taught him the meaning of life might as well be literal. It's the exact thing he needed to hear from someone who knows what it's like to live a life shadowed by their father's presence.

i really wanted to paint this since about march, but haven't really found the time to do so. at last, i finished it before the end of pride month.

the two girls are dressed in traditional Slovak folk dress, or kroj (traditional folk formalwear) from Piešťany region. Piešťany and the nearby village of Krakovany have one of the most gorgeous forms of kroj in the entire country and for a long time, dolls dressed in this style of dress were gifted to foreign delegations to represent my country. the same country that won't represent people like me

it is a form of reclamation, in a way, to depict sapphic love in this dress. we're here, and have always been here, even if the rest of the people will deny us our existence. this is for all my fellow queers living through being a hot point of debate during elections. you are seen and you are loved. you are part of this country, and you are part of our culture, and the culture belongs to you just as much as to everyone else
