Something I wish more “trapped in a videogame” isekai-ish anime like SOA would do is talk about who the players are outside of the game, and just making deep and interesting characters to begin with. So heres my proposal: an anime like that with 5 main characters. 2 game reviewing brothers who are like a straight man wise guy comedy pair who have a gaming podcast together and probably a wall of funko pops. One of them is good at combat and physical challenges like platforming, the other is good at puzzle solving and predicting what the game will do based on his knowledge of game design. Another character is a really positive and cheerful streamer who’s finding it harder and harder to keep the character going since she has to be streaming 24/7 now. Another character is a bit darker and plays videogames to escape her terrible family situation and learns to love the group in this game like the family she never had. Maybe later on when they get closer to escaping she could try to stop them because she’s not ready to go back to her old life yet. And finally, the fifth character is a bumbling but good natured dad who just wanted to have something he could talk about with his kids and has no idea how games are supposed to work, but ends up finding creative ways of getting out of situations because of it. He would bring his dad energy into the game with him, becoming the heart of the team and encouraging teamwork. Before finding him, the group just kind of stayed together because it was convenient, but after the dad joins he encourages more teamwork and emotional openness, and opens the door for them to become close friends rather than just, “a group.” Please let me know what you think and if I should start writing down ideas for this.
