a/n: i guess we can officially say i'm obsessed with hsr now. my brain has been annoying me to write something for these two boys, and... i guess here we are.

From all the world-saving and stellaron crisis, Dan Heng wasn’t able to spend much time with you, much to his dismay. Yes, he’d share a few text messages once in a while or even call each other, but those days were getting rarer as his work became even more serious.

On one of those rare calls, he found out that you took on a new interest. “Otome games”, or so they were called. He had little knowledge about it other than knowing that it was a type of dating simulation.

He had no issues with you and your new obsession after all, it’s just a game, and you were having fun!

Or so he thought until your love with these otome games became a little too much to the point of interfering with HIS love life. Why is his cuddle time with you being taken away by some- chunk of hot pixels? Instead of your hands wrapping around his waist, they now held your phone as you giggled at that….undeniable hot chunk of pixels. (According to you, it looked a lot like him and had a similar vibe)

You even had alarms set for your daily activities for these games, which had you scrambling for your phone; all the time. Your eyes would light up at whatever dialogues your "husbando" would say. 

Internally he would be screaming; "WHY WON'T YOU LOOK AT ME THE WAY YOU LOOK AT THOSE DARN 2D MEN"

Enough was enough! Dan Heng realised that at this rate, he would be ousted from being your boyfriend by a fictional character!

 Soon enough, that's how you found yourself on the floor, with Dan Heng behind you, caging you between his arms. 

Dan Heng grumbled, "It's my turn now. Pay attention to me," while avoiding direct eye contact with you.

"Oh no, have I made my boyfriend feel neglected? I'm sorry babe!" You turned to give a reassuring pat on his head, then jokingly added, "Though I suppose... You will need to learn how to share me from now on."

You receive a smack on the head at that

Lately, he had noticed a hype around Luofu, which he soon found out, thanks to Yanqing. According to the young boy, certain “otome games” were becoming quite popular amongst the newer generation. Something about conversing with “hot 2D men with crazy backstories” made them feel “ooh la la”. Or something along those lines, Yanqing’s exact words, not his. 

“It’s actually super fun! Would you like to play as well? You get daily 5 tickets in a day, so it keeps you on your toes. And if I'm not wrong, there's even a character who resembles you, general!”

Jing Yuan declined and suggested the young lad seek someone else for his otome games, as he deemed himself too old and out of touch for such interests. He glanced up from his paperwork to find the boy giving him a disappointed look before quickly running off.

A few days after that incident, you had also fallen prey to these games, he figured as Jing Yuan listened to you talk excitedly about a "mysterious therapist with silver hair" from a newly released game, and how the character was both sweet and suspicious.

He was glad that you were enjoying yourself. Sometimes, it can be challenging to discover new interests as we grow older. At least, that was how Jing Yuan personally felt. 

As long as no harm was done, all is good!

He eventually discovered that these "ikemen" characters on your phone were taking his rightful place as your boyfriend. 

You no longer played with his hair or let him sleep on your lap… All these activities were taken away from him as if snatching candy from a baby.

It had only been a week into your... newfound obsession. You even bought a bunch of “Visual Novels” and spent many hours holed up in your room, and staying awake late into the night.

When he got concerened as asked for you to come to bed, all he'd get was: "Just five more minutes Jun-Jun! I need to complete this chapter, I swear I'll be there in five minutes, trust me."

Hmmm, nope, trust shattered and heart also shattered. Poor Jun-Jun.

It really made him feel sad, Jing Yuan’s signature :3 face soon turned :( which everyone noticed, it was hard not to. Even you thought his new behaviour to be strange and confronted him.

“My dear, I don’t mind you having hobbies, but please, give equal love and attention to your partner and not just those fictional “silver haired therapist” of yours.” Jing Yuan pleaded you with those puppy dog eyes.

“You should have said so from the beginning! I’ll tone my playing down a little. I didn’t mean to make you feel lonely…” You felt guilty and gave him a big warm hug, much to Jing Yuan’s pleasure.

“....How about a compromise?Let's both play these games together. Pretty please? At least once? You won't regret it! We can add each other as friends.”

He gave in. 

And now he’s obsessed with it.

My history with Otome :D

I started playing otome games years ago. I'm not even joking. I remember when Arthur's English route was released and that being a big deal in the Fandom. I was also around before Ikemen Revolution was discontinued (fly high my sweet prince). What I'm basically trying to say is that I'm ancient and have been around the block a few times. I've downloaded and deleted and re-download Cybrid games since I've been in middle school (definitely too young to be exposed to that kind of content, but that's what happens when you have unrestricted access to your electronic devices). Despite the fact that I've been in the Fandom on and off again for years, I haven't actually finished that many routes. I intend to use this blog as a way to change that. If im constantly posting about it, then I can't procrastinate playing the games :D

To be completely honest, I'm still not 100 percent sure of all of the games I want to talk about here. However, the current list is:

Ikemen Revolution (yes, I know the game was discontinued, but I prefer to live in my fantasy world and pretend that it'll get an update one day)

Ikemen Vampire (my personal favorite otome game I've ever played)

Ikemen Prince (the last time I was really into Cybird games, I'm pretty sure this one had just been released? I've never played it)

Ikemen Villians (I had no idea this game existed until yesterday when I decided to make this blog)

Mystic Messenger (probably not as much as the others, but I downloaded this game in middle school and have refused to delete it ever since despite the fact that I probably haven't played it in 3 years)

Dangerous Fellows (My favorite fever dream)

Cinderella Phenomenon (If this game has no fans, then I am dead)

Obey Me (I was developing normally as a child until I found this game. I still love it, though)

I'm the anon who recommended the Alice in Wonderland themed otome games.

I haven't played The Fate of Wonderland myself, although I've been meaning to. I just don't like its character designs, which I'm particularly picky about. The game in general never looked promising to me for some reason. But I still decided to include it for you just in case.

Now your words got me interested to check out A Villain's Twisted Heart. Do you have any other recommendations for Genius Inc. otome games?

Ikémen Revolution is my personal favorite. It takes a completely different approach with the Wonderland theme in a world where a war is brewing between the Black and Red Armies. At the beginning it made me think that it was totally irrelevant to the plot and it was just another method of appealing to the Japanese audience with their favorite fairy tale. However, as I delved deeper into the story with every route, I realized it has a great world-building, intertwined fates of the characters and an overarching plot. While it's less popular in the modern Ikémen Series because the game feels lighthearted on the surface, it has a solid storyline that's darker than it looks, in my opinion. Unfortunately it got discontinued without ever releasing the route of the most crucial character to uncover the entire lore. Ikémen Villain was announced right after, which indicates Ikémen Revolution was sacrificed to make way for another title with fairy tale theme. As a result, I decided not to play IkéVil. Not gonna lie though, the villain, fairy tale and especially Wonderland concepts do tempt me to check it out. But I feel so bitter because IkéRev didn't get a proper closure when I was so invested in it and eagerly waited to put together the whole picture of their history.

Taisho × Alice has 3 main installments, each one contains 2 character routes. All the 6 love interests are actually the genderbend versions of the heroines from various fairy tales. It's suggest to play the routes in order (as in Episode 1, 2 and then 3) because it's the best way to enjoy the plot. Surprisingly, the routes are all alternate universes where the characters' roles also change. The story gets progressively darker with each Episode. Then in the Epilogue you get to play genderbend Alice's route, which I heard connects all the previous routes together. There's also Taisho × Alice All In One to avoid the hassle of buying them one by one. I've only played 1 route from Episode 1 and 2 each, because I'm not into the other 2 love interests, plus I couldn't wait for the dark elements since Episode 1 is too light-hearted. Episode 3 is next in my list. As much as I'm eager to find out all the mysteries of the game, genderbend Alice is a huge brat so his route is gonna be a pain in the ass for me. XD

Sorry for writing an essay here. I got too excited to find another fan of Alice in Wonderland based otome games.

First of all, sorry to hear that, regarding Ikemen Revolution. That truly is a shame. Having stated that, when/if I get around to looking into the franchise, I'll probably still look at both titles, because I'm curious about both. I'll just have to keep that info in mind when I get to IR (if I ever do).

Second of all...huh. Not sure if I've heard of a game of this type that does something like that, regarding Taisho X Alice. FULL DISCLOSURE: I'm actually not the absolute biggest fan of Otome games. I've never actually played any, and the ones I've looked into have been because the subject matter of the story/characters interested me. With the "Alice" games I've taken a peek at, I looked into them not because I was looking for hotties or otomes, but because I'm a huge fan of "Alice" and I wanted to see how those characters were treated. The fact I could then form crushes on some of the characters was just an added treat, so to speak. :P I say this because I have no idea if the gimmick for Taisho X Alice is especially unique or not, but either way, it sounds different to me, and that's usually interesting. :) Third of all...so, Genius Inc. is kind of the bargain bin of otome games, from what I've looked at from their library. They make their games fast and cheap, and they're available for free. To make up for that latter fact, making certain choices involves ad breaks and/or currency spending to get through. So, as far as games THEMSELVES go, I wouldn't recommend them. In terms of the characters and stories...to say they are hit or miss is an understatement. Most of the Genius Inc. games I've looked into I tend to lose interest in, because they get so focused on the side of "these characters are hot and you will fall in love with them, dang it!" that they forget to actually tell a well-structured story, or they make choices that I feel don't quite match the characters as I imagine them.

WITH THAT SAID...there are three I would recommend potentially looking into. First, there's the one I mentioned here, "A Villain's Twisted Heart," which is by far my favorite I've seen. The characters in the game are all reimaginings of antagonists from classic fairy-tales/fantasy: Captain Hook (he needs no introduction), Grimm (The Big Bad Wolf), and Hisame (a genderbent version of The Snow Queen). It's the best written, in my opinion, and even though it isn't perfect - again, made fast and cheap - it's the one that I feel tells the best overall story. I would legitimately like to see that game transformed into a manga or an anime, if such a thing were ever possible. Next, there's "Lullaby of Demonia," which seems to be one of their most popular titles. That one's story is admittedly flawed, but I think the premise of it is very unique, and I genuinely like all of the major characters. I honestly think it COULD have been on par with "A Villain's Twisted Heart" with a little tweaking. And third, there's a more recent title, "Sherlock: A Rose Among Thorns." This is a Sherlock Holmes themed game, where your dating options, as it were, are Holmes himself, Dr. Watson, Professor Moriarty, and an original character named Sebastian Blackwood (whose name is a combination of "Sebastian Moran" from the books and "Henry Blackwood" from one of the Guy Ritchie movies). This is a game...I WANT to like more than I actually do. Because there are definitely things I find admirable or just fun in it. But there's also a lot of stuff that annoys me about it, both as a Sherlock Holmes fan and just from the perspective of storytelling. So I'd say consider it as an option and perhaps consider giving it a try to see if it works for you. There are lots of other Genius games (including one inspired by "Beauty and the Beast," one inspired by "Phantom of the Opera," one inspired by Universal Monsters, and more generic romance games about restaurants, monsters, demons, and mafia masterminds than you can shake a stick at), so...see about finding their website and looking to see if anything looks interesting to you. Just be aware anything you look at won't be Shakespeare...or...whatever the otome-game-equivalent to that would be. 'XD

Hello~ I hope it’s not too weird that I keep immediately coming into your inbox while you’re playing otome games lol, I’m an anon that’s sent you a few messages during your OlySoi playthrough and I’m back because I’ve had a great time talking about otome games with you ^^ (also I’ve had your notifs on for a while now lol)

Sooo, after looking at what’s on sale, I highly recommend Virche Evermore, Tengoku Struggle, Norn9 Var Commons, Code: Realize!

I definitely think you’ll have the most luck enjoying Virche, it’s dark and depressing and will most definitely scratch your extremely devoted LIs/red flag LIs itch. I do need to emphasize though that this game is so incredibly angsty on purpose, so just be ready for that.

Tengoku Struggle has the same writer and artist as OlySoi and also has a few blushy tsunderes + a tsun MC, and while I haven’t gotten to him yet in my playthrough, I’ve heard that the poster boy is also great like Akaza is. It’s technically a fantasy otome, but has a lot of comedy slice-of-life mixed in it in the same way VariBari does. Also, it’s got some steam, though not on the level of OlySoi.

Norn9 is a fun sci-fi game! It’s got three unique heroines and nine love interests (three for each girl lol), and it almost feels shoujo-ish despite the sci-fi elements? The relationships feel like first love in a way that reminds me of a shoujo manga despite the greater plot. And since there are nine guys, there’s bound to be someone who will work for you.

Code: Realize is just one of my all-time favorites <3 It’s definitely the most lighthearted of the three, and it’s the heaviest on balancing plot and romance (plus the common route is quite long), but there’s still a lot of romance imo!!! The heroine is phenomenal and so are all the guys, though all but one are definitely more green-flag leaning, so idk if you’ll find it boring? You’ll definitely like the one who’s more red-flag leaning though, I’m very confident about that. It’s also steampunk and takes place in Victorian England if that appeals to you!

Head Thoughts

Helloooo, I'm back from the dead and got some thoughts I wanna spill.

Lately, I've been having visual novels in my head, which is funny because I haven't been playing any, and I've also been thinking about unique "otome" games or something like that.

Mainly went from "Ooo a story idea" to "Ooo a game story idea", since it did start with me wanting to make it more of an original story that turned game-like.

Anyways! So, the concept of Death.

Normally, people take it religiously. Go to heaven or hell, go to Tartarus or some of the other afterlife places, yada yada.

BUT, what if there's a school, right? An academy. Hang with me here.

I have a concept that is called Death Academy. Essentially, you play as the protagonist attending this school to learn how to be a Reaper.

There's a ranking system here, and you encounter various other (datable) characters of various ranks. Some of the rank ideas (not all) I have are:

Reapers: The lowest rank. Newly approved souls to attend this academy to learn how to reap a soul from a mortal body. This can go range from people to animals. Essentially the Grim Reaper or Kindred from League of Legends.

Ferriers: The Ferrymen of the ranks. Essentially, they guide lost or newly formed souls to the Judgement Hall to determine where their soul will be laid to rest.

Executioners: The Judges in a sense. While they hold an intimidating title, they are usually the most fair and passive of the bunch. Really, they only "execute" souls that are condemned and are impure/corrupted, and send those souls to "The Crypt".

(The Crypt is more like Tartarus than Hell. Not really a firey place or multiple rings. It's where corrupted souls go to suffer and aren't allowed to move on or reincarnate while trapped.)

Death: The deity themselves. They could be called the Headmaster, Commander, Ruler, however (not sure), but they hold all the power in the afterlife. They're more business-like, running their whole academy and staff like a company. They're at the top of the rank considering they're the deity of Death (One singular entity btw).

This is all I have currently. I had thought about adding another rank, but I'm not quite sure what that rank would entail and how important it would be. The whole system has a chain reaction when a death occurs like: A Reaper kills the soul, the Ferrier guides the soul, and the Executioner judges the soul.

Death is just there. Like, it's their realm, they only get involved if it really requires their attention. Like HR.

But yeah, that's it. I wanted to put this in writing somewhere but also tell people and Twitter scares me and Insta has my mom following me lol. I doubt people will see this or care, but you know what? That's okay, because I might forget about this concept and unfortunately never make it happen sidghiudgis.

And yes, if I do make this, Death will go by They/Them pronouns, but mainly because they are an entity beyond such identities. It's not what Death labels themselves, but rather what others use to address them in a more personal manner since Death doesn't really identify with masculine or feminine labels (though they will be a bit more masculine presenting).

Also also, I know there are a lot of otome games that are like...one gendered interest only, which I don't like, so there will be all kinds of people to choose from! And most otome games have feminine protagonists, but I plan to, if I make it, be a choice between a feminine character and a masculine character, but they're both addressed with "They/Them" anyways to keep it neutral towards the players.

Idk, I just like the idea of keeping things neutral when it comes to such things. I'd love to make this idea, but being a single party and not knowing how to make such games will definitely bite me in the ass lol.

I'm in Love with the Villainess (review kinda)

The book series finally been concluded with 5 books and me finally finishing to read it, it was a pretty good novel series in my opinion! 

I saw this serious on a different website before it got its publishing on Kindle and so forth in which the title of the translation was “I favour the Villainess” which is the title I usually first remember it by haha.

The Novel series was written by Inori and Illustrated by Hangata, according to amazon at least. 

We follow the protagonist that wakes up as Rae Taylor in front of her person of affection Claire Francois. Instead of being bullied by Claire, Rae even encourages Claire to do more. Which sounds bizarre but gets quite the comedic reactions therefore.

Sets in a middleagish magic world where they are currently going to the academy. Rae is a commoner while Claire is an aristrocat/noble.

Noble are usually the only ones with magic, but much like with Rae are not the only ones that can use it.

POLITICS ahh, well for people who like politics and conflicts of different countries and issues, than you are in luck, after all the possibility of Revolution is mentioned right from the beginning, cause not only is Rae reincarnated, she is recarnated with the knowledge of Revolover an Otome game she played in her last life, where Claire is the Villainess btw!

The world is fairly detailed, from the kingdom to its conflicts and more, personally I wasn’t that interested in it, but even in later books where they go outside their own country you still have plenty of country and political conflicts to read. Might be hit or miss for everyone in that regard.

Another great thing is the LGBT+ representation! From very early on you’ll get to know Rae as a Lesbian, who is very much in love with the noble Claire. But there are multiple mentions of trans people, gender disphoria, even nonbinary people were mentioned I think and and the conflict that arises when you won’t be accepted for who you are. I found myself quite touched and felt like I could relate to most of these characters, as a trans nonbinary ace romantic lesbian myself.

Personally I really, really like when a reincarnated person uses their knowledge be it of just their own world or here as basically precognition to their advantage. However unlike in many other novel series, we are ultimately left in the dark for most of it, while still feeling like we have a similar amount of knowledge as Rae. She explains plenty, but the most important she only reveals as things start coming together in her favour. So basically you know what the world is about, but you don’t know as much as Rae as she does everything for the sake of Claire. It makes for quite the nice reveal and tension as we realize why Rae said certain things we could not understand until later. And I loved that.

Romance: Is plentiful and earned, and there maybe more than just Rae that loves Claire, so Rae has quite the rivalry to capture her beloved heart! But there are even people that also like Rae, who got no chance at her love for Claire of course!

Maybe a tad spoiler but I found that the author might have added Aleah and May despite the plot relevances just as like a sweet selfindulgend fantasy. Personally I don’t think these two were necessary at all, I found it a bit staggering even. I mean I did get used to them, but I still find it odd, I’d rather would have had more of Rae and Claire scenes then with these two, but meh maybe I am just biased. I do like Aleah and May, but their addition still feels strange even after finishing the novel series. At least their plot relevenacy was pretty good in the end haha

Also, the last book is such wack that I was like “wtf is happening and why does it make sense???”, not that I am gonna say more since I want to keep this mostly spoiler free.

It it is certainly not your typical otomo reincarnated/isekai novel that is for sure, but if you like lesbian women romance, than this is absolutely worth it.

For me it was a bit dry of a read, because I am not that fond of politics and similar information based stuff etc. Information dumps. But either way I still liked the series a lot, and you know having some actual romantic lesbian story without sex being in the story, is very good. It is not a smut story, just nice romance between two women.

Give it a read while you have the time! Especially the first 2 books!

Today was....

I actually slept at a semi reasonable time last night, I think around 0230? I'm not sure but the meletonin gummies helped, definitely gonna be trying to take that more often. altho with how I sleep, I am up and down at the drop of a hat no matter what.

I was kinda surprised when I woke up much earlier than I usually do, I was ahead of my usual phone call with my bestie. grabbed my water bottle and decided to get it cleaned while I was making hot water for some instant Thai tea. I figured it would be a good thing to clean so I could have ice cold water in it. it's a steel insulated bottle with moons on it and it's great for keeping water cold so much longer, it's definitely worth however much I paid for it at the Seattle museum of flight. sticking with the moons on it, I've stuck a floating astronaut and a Artemis mission sticker on it.

lunch was kinda boring, a healthy choice meal but I was suuuuuuper productive in making some cool opaque 'tights' mod for Lalafells. I've got pink, blue, black and white done and there is a version where they have toe beans in the bottom of the feet's. I want to have a few to package together so it will be like.... click your choice of color in these few instead of installing one at a time. it's been a fun project to learn how to mimic textures, like that weird look that tights have, the funny crinkle? best way to describe it.

since I had a few done, I went and made more Thai tea and decided to play some ffxiv. I needed to do some things ingame and get some free exp. so i hopped on dragoon and leveled a bit by using random quests I hadn't completed in a few areas before breaking off for dinner. my glam honestly doesn't match the vibes of dragoon, but it make my Lalafell look so dapper.

dinner was simple, just some canned soup that I spiced up with some Sriracha, because most soups are under seasoned. it was this chicken, potato, broccoli and cheese creamy soup then I added in some crackers. it honestly was much better with the spice, but I will put hot sauce on anything.

one of my besties messages me about my absolute favorite otome getting it's English release and I'm sooo excited! Hakuoki is one of my favorite otomes and the story is set in a historical fiction with demons and vampires. I've purchased every release of the series after finding the game released on PSP in like... 2012? it's honestly a little hard to find a otome I like because Hakuoki was my first. soooo I pre-ordered the special edition with all the bells and whistles, to include an art book to sit with the other ones I have.

after foods and purchases, I met up with my bestie in Ffxiv and we ran some content and some of the fights, I was *confidently incorrect* on. which is bad when you are the healer... i also struggled with some previous content boss fights because it had been soooo long since but I wasn't the only one so it wasn't too bad. we all laughed and continued the dungeon.

it honestly was a good day. a few moments of realizing about a 'friend', some good tea, some modding work, and spending time with friends.

You know interestingly I'm in the same boat as you. Now Solmare and PrettyBusy are slightly different size wise but it's so strange because tbh they're pretty similar in the ostracizing f2p players.

I usually notice trends, and funnily enough, WHB is following Obey Me's footsteps in the becoming pay to win and then desperately scrambling/releasing lacking content after chasing away players. Like from an outside perspective, it's obvious, but I feel like for these companies, they don't see it.

And weirdly, I got this strange feeling - I could be wrong but walk with me here; I feel like when WHB got released, it capitalized on Nightbringer's lukewarm take for f2p players. So you got peeps like me and you and others leaving Obey Me to play WHB and now we have Obey Me being desperate to get people back with its ads, shower cards, and asmr release while WHB got too cocky/full of itself and is now scrambling for money and to see what shit sticks to the walls.

Neither of them seem to want to release story content from what I can see but they do wanna keep throwing these pricey cards and side stories at us in a desperate bid to keep people.

And ALL OF THIS COULD HAVE BEEN SOLVED IF: Obey Me stuck to releasing S5 of the Original Game and What in Hell is Bad stuck to its niche and didn't try to get so ambitious enough to act like this.

It's kinda sloppy, and if you think of it, it is probably why otome games based on the 7 Lords of Hell don't work out.

But I could just be talking out of my ass pay me no mind.

I'm late as fuck to the whole PB legal thing but being one of the early blogs that wrote whb content AND also (kinda) being part of the obey me fandom, if prettybusy ends up being greedy and too stingy towards f2players in the future, I suggest to just abandon the source material altogether.

Fandoms can and have done it before.

Take Obey Me for example. I was one of players that's been with it ever since release, much like whb, and was very loyal to the game. However, I'm also a strictly f2p player because of financial reasons. But as the company moved more and more towards exclusive paid content, as well as lower rates to obtain event cards, I eventually dropped the game and only consumed fan content, which is something I also saw a lot of other f2players do. One of the reasons I liked Obey Me so much was because most of the content can be obtainable without paying, albeit that it required a little more effort.

That's how these games should be. Payment should be a shortcut, not the only way to obtain content. There's a line between logging in daily and doing an extra 15 minute grind for event tokens, and having nearly impossible odds stacked against you in a random gacha eating away at your event tokens and the event cards isn't even within your reach.

Yes, a lot of fans still play and enjoy playing Obey Me, hence being profit for Shall We Date. But there's also a way to enjoy the character without interacting with the game at all.

I was already cautious of PB when they paywalled the angel SSRs, especially with the extreme price they had. But with this official statement, I'd get my fic download folders ready.

Malleus’ route I feel would be the final route. The one where you have to play all the other routes just to unlock his. The poster boy route if you will, which makes sense because he technically is the poster boy for twst.

Malleus is the Crown Prince and you were betrothed to him.

you saw the way people ignored and went out of their way to not interact with him, while you had friends who adored you.

so you made yourself a promise, while this marriage was a political one, you would love your dragon fae husband.

now Malleus, he wasn’t used to you.

You who would try your best to interact with him, and he tried to act cold towards you, but that all changed.

when you stayed by his side while he was sick, and you fed him soup.

1.What was your first impression of the game? Is this the first Cybird game you’ve ever played?

Ikemen Vampire was my first! Initially, I was quite confused, because I know enough about history to get in trouble and hurt myself in confusion, haha. After playing the Prologue, I felt like the writers had taken historical figures and violently blended them with otome tropes. An impression I stand by today for the most part.

2.Who was the character you liked most in the beginning, and is he still your fave?

I liked Jean the most in the beginning. The chance to romance Jeanne d'Arc and Arthur Conan Doyle was what drew me to the game. Nowadays, while I unlocked all of his route and want to get his birthday stories, I'm still searching for like, *the* Jeanne story for me. When I think about her interpretation in IkeVamp, I think about what I'd do differently.

3.How you picked your first route, and whose route was it? Was your favorite suitor available when you first started playing?

See above! I'm quite late to the app, so Jean was available.

Mozart and Issac. I felt meh about them and enjoyed their routes a lot more than I thought I would. They're well-written and nicely paced.

OOF. Uh. It was either the Nightmare one or the Christmas one. I remember futzing around with Comte in Christmas Town and getting declared "fated." And Arthur making a pine tree dick joke.

Nope, I'm free to play all the way! I do the "Watch Adverts for Diamonds" thing when I remember. It's nice! With 10 ads a day, they build up quick.

I'm meh on avatars EXCEPT for the pussy hat in Ikemen Revolution. I saw it, I wanted it, and I spent diamonds to get the paywalled story.

My luckiest? During last year's anniversary gacha, I got Sebastian AND Isaac's 5 star cards in one pull! It was amazing!!! Lately, I've been having really rotten luck. I wish the Trading Post let us purchase useful items like tickets and keys.

13. The slowest you’ve ever completed a route vs the quickest:

I usually keep pace with the daily 5 tickets, so it takes 26 days for me to finish a route. That being said, a second run of Sebastian's route took over a month because I read it while traveling. I was too distracted by the sights to read!

14.Do you use your 5 free chapter tickets daily?

Yep. It's free!

15.A moment in a route that made you cry and a moment in a route that made you laugh:

Routes make me laugh all the time. This morning I laughed because Shakespeare's route revealed that he and MC have matching exhibitionist kinks, hahahaha. I don't think I've cried? I cry more during like, films, than when I'm reading something. I think the most upset I've been is when I tried reading Vincent's route. A lot of the language and his character arc mirror my experience with acephobia. His tormentors use the put-downs I told myself before I realized asexuality is thing. For example, I was "broken" or "a doll" that needed to be forcibly "fixed" by a romantic partner. Real vile stuff. It didn't help that the real Vincent, if he lived today, would likely identify as ace. I stopped reading his route.

16. Who is your favorite pureblood vampire?

Probably Comte or Vlad. I think Vlad has the better constructed story, in my opinion. World-building bogged Comte's route down. I think my biggest quibble with Vlad's route is that I thought there would be more to his plan. We learn nothing new. It doesn't like, make sense. Not even on a piece of paper or have bullet points. He's supposed to be a little bonkers though, and bonkers doesn't bed with reason, so I give it a pass.

17.Do you have a favorite CG? What about a favorite card?

Honestly depends on who I'm reading! Right now that's Billy Shakes, so I'm oogling his birthday card from this year and admiring how his first route CG and Dramatic Ending CG mirror each other.

18.Any famous historical figures you wished were in ikevamp?

WOMEN--uh, let's see: Julie d'Aubigny and Queen Kristina of Sweden spring to mind. I'm most surprised that Alexander Dumas isn't already in the cast.

It's Shakespeare all the way 'round! Including his birthday card :D

20.What do you think about the suitors’ pets? Which one is your favorite?

I try not to think about the pets too deeply. If there's a tiger on site...how are the other non-bird animals still alive. Generally, I prefer when the animal connects to the suitor somehow. Like, Napo's eagle hearkens to the French Imperial Eagle standard during Napoleon's wars, or Isaac's hedgehog fits the hedgehog anecdote. I love Mo's story about Bunta!

Felix would be Super Invested™ in the plot of his otome games. He spends hours replaying and rereading to get different options. He looks up fan theories. He gets the CGs. He writes smutty smutty fanfics. He is A Boy Obsessed. Why Did You Introduce Him To This. On the bright side you guys can read together. For rhythym games I think he'd get frustrated when he messes up and ends up redoing the same level 10+ times to finally finish it because 'no MC I cannot be beaten by a foolish time-waster meant for children!!'

No but that being said, I think she'd like Pokémon Go! She'd find the creativity of AR and Pokemon in general to be really interesting. For extra fun don't immediately tell her it's just a game because she'll 100% believe Pokémon are real until you tell her otherwise

I can also see her playing something like Love Nikki: Dress-Up Queen. I think she'd enjoy the dichotomoty of the mechanics being 'oh you wear cute outfits' versus the plot being like 'men are driven insane by the eternal power of perfect peace and there's a blood curse and a dark god (or whatever Xiao Zong is supposed to be) who goes around being a drunk asshole and sometimes there's time travel and also oh yeah, N E C R O M A N C Y sometimes'

Definitely the most reasonable about her gaming. She might be a little frustrated sometimes if she misses out on a limited edition thing, but otherwise I think she'd be fine.

On the other hand if she's drunk I could see her getting frustrated with a bad gacha pull and impulsively yeeting your device so maybe be aware of that

Sage

Maybe don't ever let him on the internet

I think if you're above the age of like, 15, and you watch anime or play anime games, you inevitably get those hentai-esque game ads for games that aren't even sexual, like Girls X Battle and Crush Crush and whatever else. I think Sage would see the ads, try the game, see the game is nothing like the ads, but keep playing anyways because (at least in the case of Girls X Battle) Cute Anime Girls Beating Up Monsters is probably something he enjoys in a Multitude Of Ways™

I don't think he would like KleptoCats (or KleptoCats 2) necessarily but I think if you showed it to him he might play it, mostly because of the weird subplot going on (and he likes pointing at a Potentially Evil Cat and calling it Stella)

Also would see him playing something like Temple Run!! Bright colors and fast movement and the threat of Demon Monkeys is probably enough to keep him interested for a bit, essentially because he thinks there Has To Be An Ending At Some Point and He Wants To Find Treasure. I could also see him playing Minion Rush but that's more for the meme than anything else.

You might have to limit his game time

Rime would be the one to play the subgenre affectionately dubbed Rage Games; Minesweeper, Idiot Quiz, and yes, Geometry Dash.

He takes them as a personal challenge!! Baby boy likes proving that he's The Best™, especially if you tease him about how these games would kick his ass. I think he'd get the hang of Minesweeper pretty quickly but would be super frustrated initially. Idiot Quiz would piss him off in the Worst Possible Way. He dubs it the Sage Quiz™. Geometry Dash,, just,,,, pisses him off so much,,,,,,, there's bright colors and happy music but he keeps fucking dying MC why does he keep fucking dying on that stupid fucking spike-

He cusses a lot. You'll be in the other room and you'll just hear him give this indignant little "fuck!" And then ten seconds later a much louder "F U C K I N-!!!"

He throws your phone more than once. Apologizes and tries not to do it again but he Does. Refuses to use practice mode. If you Really wanna piss him off I suggest making your own level and naming it something like 'Easy Peasy for Bambi <3' or whatever. Doesn't matter how easy it is he will be So Angry at the name that he will be unable to focus and lose.

He may retaliate either by Intense Bitching™ or Tickle Torture ™, all depends on how he's feeling

About Uncoven...

I said I would not make posts about Uncoven (other than replying to asks) and I didn’t. But the game is now out and I gave it a chance so that I could make an informed opinion. Because yes, I’m the first to admit to have been biased from the beginning due to the whole Priya/Koori misandry situation, but I tried to be fair and take an actual look before making my final judgement on it. Here are my thoughts:

The MC

The main complain about Nyx the MC so far is that they are of male sex and non-binary gender, so then usual Beemoov fanbase has not been able to relate. Also customisation is non-existent and you can only choose between three avatars which are identical except for their clothes and haircut. I personally don’t care too much about this because I don’t self-insert (although I do prefer having a female MC). I can look past this, the problem is just that I don’t like the design at all. Personal taste. I also dislike the fact that their personality is very meek, all their friends are overpowered, and we keep hearing about how cool and perfect their are, while Nyx is the poor lost soul who doesn’t know what they want from life etc etc same old story.

The Characters

Other than Nyx, there are 6 friends. Again, personal taste but I don’t like the art style, as mentioned before they are all presented as perfect with no faults, I don’t know how many times I read how amazing each of them is in the half chapter I played. 

They are also VERY stereotyped. Like Silas, for example, is the black fat guy who only talks about food, drinks and partying. Will, the ‘crush’, is the most basic white popular rich boy all the girls swoon for but with nothing really interesting going on for him (apparently). Kristen is the always cheerful extrovert gay best friend. Basically, I’m bored. Oh and there’s also Mavka, the pretty, feminine girl, is clearly one of the writer’s self insert (she even gave her her same birthday), and we keep complimenting her. I don’t like self-insertion, but it feels so icky to me that a writer would make the player compliment and swoon for a character that represents her? Feels like a creepy power move. 

Nyx: “Mavka, her musical laugh, her eyes that shine with joy. Her fragile beauty almost makes me want to cry.”

She also seems to be into the only LI, constantly touching and complimenting him, so this looks like a love-rival situation.

The Cost

During the beta, people could get 100 free APs per day meaning reading 50 lines of dialogue for free every day. They must have thought it was too generous because we now get only 70 making up 35 lines (plus you can get 12 additional APs by watching ads). This is worse than Moonlight Lovers where you can read 50 lines per day. I didn’t play the whole episode, but checking with beta testers and other people, it seems that if one were to buy APs, one episode costs between 10-20 euros, the whole game is made up of 7 main chapters + 3 endings, meaning that the monetary equivalent of this game is around 150 euros. (+/- 20 euros I’d say).

Art and Music

I already mentioned I don’t like the characters design, however I absolutely love the backgrounds, I think they are very well made and give charm to a setting that had basically already been recycled from Moonlight Lovers (spooky manor in the woods). Also, the music is beautiful and, together with the animations, really sets the mood. My only issue is that it’s barely at the beginning of the chapter and had no sound other than some effects throughout the game, but maybe it’s a bug that will be fixed, I don’t know.

Gameplay and Writing

This is the part that upsets me the most and ultimately will prevent me from playing this game. Despite Beemoov advertising the game as an otome, this isn’t one, there is only one crush, and the 3 different routes/endings available are: 1 romantic, 1 friendship, 1 solo/personal-power. There are many choices throughout the game, each option leading to one of the endings, it’s exactly the same system as Moonlight Lovers. The problem is... that it’s INCREDIBLY easy, but easy in a really childish way. There is no complexity in this writing, no ambiguity, nothing that makes you pause for a minute wondering oh dang what am I going to pick? I have spent the past two years testing ML and literally LOSING MY MIND trying to figure out the routes. Yes, it was difficult, and frustrating, but entertaining as hell, and at the end of each route you feel like you have accomplished something. Uncoven is basically the child version of that. Example:

There is no need of guides in this game because there is zero doubt on which path each choice is leading to.

Now, second point about the writing: the romance route is written in a way where Nyx has zero thoughts in their mind other than Will and falling in love. They seem to be completely blind about anything else. And I’ve seen this before, albeit with much better writing: this is Raphael’s bad ending. Eloise used to act exactly in the same way there, with Raphael being her only interest and believing him about everything and following like a puppy. The difference is that was a bad ending for a romance that had 3 options, including a good one where Eloise could be more independent and call out his bullshit. Here there’s no such option unless you want to renounce the romance completely. This is a cautionary tale: there’s gonna be no happy ending with Will as this is a toxic relationship. If you are jumping into this game for romance don’t do it, pick the power route instead, Nyx may end up betraying everyone and taking power for themselves. Much more entertaining than being lectured.

And this brings me to the final point. Yes, again, the blatant misandry: romance = bad, white cis men = bad. I have been showed this rhetoric twice in half chapter already. First, when Will buys groceries for everyone and is mocked for it instead:

and the second is when Rose is telling Nyx that she broke up with her boyfriend with this random assertion out of nowhere

So, here we go, these are my thoughts. I have heard people complaining about other things like the description of magic and wicca (of which I know nothing so I am not in a position to comment on it), or bad representation of poc and queer characters (again, I can’t exactly comment on this, so I’ll leave it to people better informed than me).

All in all, I think the game could’ve had potential if it weren’t for these factors, but I can’t even comment on the plot because between complimenting all the friends, the only thing that happened in half a chapter was a broken mirror. I guess spookier things are going to happen in the future but I won’t see them because my journey with this game ends here. If anyone is going to keep playing please let me know your impressions :)

Kat, I'm going to give you my honest opinion about this. I've changed my mind three times now between saying this or rather just simply rebloging to boost it, but in the end I thought it's better if you hear it.

When I saw this post on my dash I got really hyped up about it! It's your boy and you're obviously very passionate about this project and I'm sure it's gonna be very fun. Usually, that's what happens with me lately, I see something, I get excited about it, then it turns out I don't have the energy to engage with it once it releases and I feel sad about that. It's pretty much a me-issue and I know it. Depression sucks. I'm sure you're the last person who wants to hear this. But then I got to the bottom of your post and... I was overwhelmed by guilt. In advance. Because I know by default that I won't be able to give this the amount of feedback you're hoping for. I know that this is just one person speaking, and I know fairly well that there are other people out there who will do a better job than me supporting you, I don't want to act like everyone will share my reaction to this post.

I'm just very sad to hear that there is a chance of you quitting writing, depending on how this turns out. I want to give you my opinion about this, in an attempt to make you reconsider in the worst-case scenario where you're not satisfied with the engagement for this project.

To be blunt, there are tons of released routes out there. I can't bring myself to read them all. I haven't played the route of some of the characters I love, because I'm that burned out. Again, this is just me. I'm seeing others who are capable of keeping up with the tempo of their releasing, who manage two or more games at once. Every otome player is different, but for those who only have the energy or time to do their faves, it's gonna be very hard to commit to this! Also, I don't want to assume you haven't thought about this already, but just to remind, some people prefer to read it all in one go. You might not get an immediate response. Some will discover it two years later. You're placing a huge stake in something that's very volatile...

I don't know what you consider a successful project on here. I don't know how many notes you're hoping to see on these chapters or anything like that, but I'm begging you to do this for yourself first and foremost. When I saw the post I was happy for YOU before I wondered if I'm gonna read it or not. Because that's something that's important to you. I know that feedback is motivating, and I know you didn't want to sound threatening, but maybe... you did end up sounding threatening? I care about you, I'm your friend, even if i end up feeling guilty because of one of your messages about leaving feedback on your fics I'm still gonna read the thing, i know it's good writing and I'm gonna enjoy it anyway. But some people are gonna turn away when they're guilted into engaging with something.

I know you had a good time writing his route! Please focus on how it made you feel while writing it. You deserve the praise for completing such a huge project! I'm just saying that I will be incredibly sad if you let the outcome of it deprive you of your hobby.

That being said, I don't wanna be on the taglist you already added me to. I hope you can understand.

A YEAR IN THE MAKING

You know this BIG project I keep mentioning??

A good amount of you have guessed it, some of you know all about it because I've been bouncing ideas off of you to help me with the thought process.

SALAÌ IS GETTING HIS OWN ROUTE!!!!

Long story short.. it was supposed to be 8-10 chapters. It was going to be a speed run route. It's obvs not a real route it can be quick and not so indepth right? Right?

It's 20 chapters. With 3 side stories and an Episode 0.

There were going to be 4 cgs but... Art is pricey and well... honestly.. his route isn't even canon.

In Salaìs route, you, the mc, meet Salaì as he's painting in town. He's there looking for someone but you don't know who. But you get closer to him, going on little dates.. having no choice but to stay at his place for a night, helping him get his art shown in a gallery...and then it falls apart

I will be posting each chapter separately. There will be 3-4 days between each chapter. I will have a tag list. If you are tagged on this post you are already part of it. If you'd like to be part of it just comment saying so.

Minor details: so he has 3 side stories plus the episode 0...those will not be posted here. I've put so much work into this.. literally started August 25th last year...they will be available on Kofi as the chapters related to them are posted. They will only $1. You don't need these side stories for the main story just like in the game so please don't complain about me putting 4 of these behind a pay wall.

Info on the route itself: I will be staying this once I start posting it but through the story I will be calling him Salaì..but for a good part of it he goes by a different name. It shouldn't be confusing but he does have three names after all. Also I said his route isn't canon, meaning his route does not line up with his actual lore. In no way would Salai chose Mc over Leonardo, and I also don't put all of trauma of his in here bc its not really the focus, and like I said.. not even canon. BUT I AM WILLING TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS AT ANY GIVEN TIME. I also have @ask-salai where you can ask questions about it too if you would want HIM to answer and not me.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY HOPE YOU GUYS READ AND INTERACT WITH THIS.
