HMMM OK!! so I’ve had this idea for a while, nothing revolutionary, but basically I made a playlist of…. not All of my Favorite songs per say but ones that especially resonate with me yk… hit very specific Me spots…. lots of gloomy stuff but it’s also just random. consider it just the fundamentals. there’s no concrete rhyme or reason to any of this, you can hit shuffle, I didn’t do anything in a specific order. also warning: my music taste isn’t that unique I think so this might be underwhelming.. but I thought I’d just make this anyway since I’ve been thinking about it. elaborating on the Netflix article, there is too much of everything and a lot of it is shit and it’s disrespectful to the audience, and the streaming companies are banking on money and not on respecting their audience’s need for something with more substance. they will keep throwing things at the wall regardless of what sticks and we will suffer for it. And things are easier to forget because there’s too much of everything. Not to be a back in the day guy but there being less to choose from back then meant things stuck around in your head more because you didn’t have as many distractions as you do now.

I want other apps to give me yearly recaps too. I want my messaging app to be like “you sent this reaction gif 47 times! You must have someone really weird you talk to regularly!” Or Discord to be like “you changed your profile picture to a picture of existential dread Barbie 12 times this year! I’m worried about you!” Or my photo app to be like “You downloaded the same picture of L from Death Note 3 times! Why? Did you forget what he looks like?” Or Google to be like “you searched for

You can see the exact point my music taste developed! Considering I only discovered Ghost about half way through the year, and Sleep Token even later that’s not half bad.

This also really shows how much Spotify pushes Taylor Swift because I have never searched her music it just comes up in every single auto generated playlist ever (and too many fandom ones). Before Ghost and Sleep Token I hadn’t found my music taste and never knew what to say when asked, I listened to music for the sake of listening. Now I actually love what I listen to, it makes me feel things, that is so important! (The top song almost doesn’t count because was one that accidentally got stuck playing on loop when I didn’t have my phone on me and wasn’t listening to music 🤷). I should also mention that it played almost exclusively Ghost music the entire time 😆.

Also this seems like as good a time as any to reiterate my idea of artist playlists. Seriously why is this not already a thing? Spotify needs to add a feature where you can put different artists into a playlist together and it will just play a mix of only their songs!!! Please Spotify, I’m begging you! Do this please, artist playlists, instead of shitty AI playlists that always completely miss the vibe!!!

The thing is, I don’t use Spotify... So instead, thanks to the stats I managed to find in iTunes and Windows Media Player, what I remember listening to this year, and my Photoshop skills, I present to you my very own, entirely handcrafted and customized...

Songs

1 - Technically, I didn’t just listen to it, I watched this video. On repeat. In my defense, I was trying to learn the song and it wasn’t easy! Also, yeah, okay, I really like it.

2 - I didn’t listen to this one on my phone/computer in 2023, but since I’ve played Tears of the Kingdom for more than 235 hours and spent a lot of time either riding the dragons or watching them pass by, I must have heard this music many, many times!

3 - This song came out this year, and apparently, I’ve listened to it 6 times.

4 - This one is actually a video. It’s a cover of a 1979 song originally sung by Dalida that was (and still is) very popular in France. I don’t particularly follow Bilal Hassani or his career, but I stumbled upon this performance and thought it was really beautiful. I probably listened to it 4 or 5 times in a just few days. For context, because I think it matters, around that time, he was scheduled to perform in a deconsecrated basilica (that now holds concerts and other cultural events), but the show had to be canceled for security reasons because he, and by extension his fans, received threats from “far-right Catholic groups”. The lyrics say, “Let me dance and sing freely.”

5 - I listened to this 3 times this year because I wanted to cleanse myself of the sped-up version I was tired of hearing in almost every video on the Internet at the beginning of 2023.

Artists

1 - I’ve listened to her new album, Gag Order, a few times. “Happy” made me cry.

2 - She’s probably in my “Top 5” every year, honestly.

3 - I often listen to the FFXV soundtrack. It’s amazing!

4 - Aside from Tears of the Kingdom, I’ve also played HITMAN: Freelancer for many hours this year... which means I’ve heard the soundtrack a lot. It’s good too!

5 - Disney soundtracks in general are also in my “Top 5” every year, I think.

Podcasts

I realize the list makes it seem like I’m really into the supernatural, but really, I just follow Jesse Cox and Kesha :’)

301 vues (“301 views”) is a French podcast hosted by YouTuber Cyprien and described as “the show that talks about the Internet”. Each episode has different guests.

And YouTube isn’t a podcast, but it’s what I watch (or just listen to, depending on the video) most of the time, often in the background when I’m eating, working, or drawing :)

Ok so i have a question about Spotify,, if anyone else has noticed this problem pls let me know

I’m admittedly obsessive about music so I noticed right away when there was “new” Kajagoogoo singles…. That were blatantly NOT kajagoogoo. Nobody ever said anything, band clearly didn’t reform.. one day there were just new singles. All (5? I think?) songs were instrumental and vague, but very clearly not even the same style or vibe. It was removed within a month each time, but this has happened at least 3 times now.

My question is… has this been happening a lot? Or is it just someone fucking around with Kajagoogoo specifically?? And if so.. wtf? Lol
