I think we should have a conversation about how people tend to portray Hornet as having a hair-trigger temper/being always just angry and how that’s both a disservice to her character and really odd considering how much of a stoic she tends to be in game about her feelings. She’s blunt and sharp but not explosive and straight up abrasive. She has tact. Just like someone who’s both a spider and born into a royal family has to be to survive.

And along with that, as a Lesbian myself, the way people write her as being always angry and pissed off mixed with the other defining trait of being a lesbian or sapphic in some way also rubs me the wrong way.

Like… I hope people realize that they are making her into the “angry/bitchy lesbian trope” right??? And by making her like be especially rude towards the men (who are written to hit on her) also plays into that? I doubt it’s intentional but it’s still offensive.

(Clarification too just in case: I love when people headcanon Hornet as being a Lesbian for obvious reasons that are not limited to me simply loving her as a character, but I do beg people to think more about how making the self controlled guardian that Hornet is into a lesbophobic trope that isn’t even adhering to her canon character is disheartening.)

okok let me finally do my analysis on kusuke and makoto parallels like ive talked about a thousand times (obvious warning that im gonna talk about incest, and also that im gonna be talking about a gag manga in a serious light so if that upsets you just go away ✌️)... yippee, perverted older brothers with unhealthy dynamics with their powerful younger siblings analysis!!

the most obvious parallel is in their interactions with the others sibling. they literally have the same exact meeting, they both go from being fake nice to "my sibling is special and youre not worthy of them"

not included in pictures but also note that kusuo got rid of makoto by calling on kokomi and kokomi got rid of kusuke by calling on her fans

kusukes idea of kusuo being inhuman also influences the way this is treated i think- he tells kokomi that marrying a beautiful man will suit her best and that kusuo is above that kind of thing (aka actual romantic and aesthetic attraction), and it seems that being the only ones who can measure up to each other is probably the closest, in his eyes, that kusuo can get to love (confirmed in my opinion by the marriage/engagement symbolism a few pictures down⬇️). thats why he thinks theyre the only ones worthy of each other even if he doesnt see kusuo in the exact same way as makoto sees kokomi. if that makes any sense :p these are obviously already parallel on surface level, but id say theyre even more similar if you look deeply into it

theyre the reason their sibling cant relax or be themself even at home... also note that kusuo specifically says that kusuos masochism (which i guess in some contexts masochism can be non-sexual but in this situation, since kusuke is canonically a pervert and there are several implications and allusions to sexual pleasure, it obviously means he gets SEXUAL pleasure from pain/humiliation) is the main reason he doesnt like him. likewise, kokomi is bothered by makotos overprotective and overbearing nature, though unfortunately she doesnt seem to be aware of his sister complex and thinks hes just being an annoying big brother.

not necessarily something that can be captured in a picture but theres also the fact that they both have pretty perfect lives but are still obsessed with their sibling and only their sibling, its all they really care about and their entire lives depend on them.

makoto is extremely attractive, charming when hes trying to be, and is a famous actor... he clearly gets girls. but he doesnt want any of them because hes stuck in his obsession with kokomi, shes the only girl he wants and its ruined his perception of other girls. he believes hes the only one that can be right for kokomi and touch her, and that likewise kokomi is the only girl he can be with. her presence dictates his life, he skips work just to follow her around and prevent her from getting involved with other guys. we only see maybe a few sentences from him where he isnt talking about kokomi, even when hes on tv.

kusuke is an attractive and charming genius, easily pulls girls, cambridge graduate, and is the favorite child in his family. but none of that matters, it only sets him apart from other humans and gives him a skewed perspective of anyone who isnt kusuo. he believes kusuo is the only person he can get that sadomasochistic pleasure from, and kusuo is the reason he developed it in the first place and he specifically seeks him out and coerces him into it. he really only cares about his family, theyre the only people in the world that are worth anything in his eyes, and his only interactions with anyone else have been using them as tools to get to kusuo. his life goal is (or was, before the end of cat tank arc) defeating kusuo. he has cameras in his familys house that hes presumably constantly watching, implied by him being ALREADY watching before his parents even called him about kusuos limiter.

I think my ultimate thoughts re; Kipperlilly is that I wish we got a scene where a character was allowed to show her... sympathy. I know there's a tone you wanna hit with a victorious season finale, and a somber note of a teenager falling into a deep well of rage doesnt match that tone but it would've been nice to see.

In my dream world, we get an extra epilogue scene where Riz goes to see Jawbone to go and talk to him, and brings up the thing he mentioned about "seeing Kipperlilly in himself" -- relating that to what Jawbone said at the beginning of the year, and wanting to talk about that deeply set in need for control, and the latent anger he has, and all the ways he is like Kipperlilly, and doesn't want to be.

And in response, Jawbone is able to address the ways in which he failed Kipperlilly, and let her down. That she needed more help than he could provide, that she needed someone who wasn't too afraid of their own biases to shut down her anger, someone who could maybe have given her a support system to turn to instead of Porter. Someone external to the school and the social dynamics within it. Just an acknowledgement from, as far as we know, the only adult in Kipperlilly's life who earnestly tried -- and earnestly failed -- to help her find a better path than her rage.

Just a small moment of acknowledgement that Kipperlilly was a child, an angry, scared, biased and deeply insecure child who was looking for help when she first walked into Jawbone's office, and because of all the adults who failed her, she was turned into something unrecognisable by the time she was 17.

anyway overall thoughts on the twitter takeover is it was fine . it was mostly kind of whatever nothing too crazy but there were still some cute/funny answers in there i particularly like hearing sonic and shadow talk about other characters i need to see them go shopping with amy or fishing with big immediately. i do remember having one major "he would not fucking say that" moment though as is typical with these things and it was the chest fur question ... i dont even know how to explain it properly but it just felt like a weird way to handle the question and sonic and shadow being overly concerned with being perceived as "manly" felt really strange and out of character to me like why would they care about that stuff lol. but whatever this stuff probably isnt canon anyway so im just gonna close my eyes and pretend i do not see it

What leads you to believe rcg intended for Mac to be gay by s4-ish? It seems like everything they say , at least publicly, contradicts that it wasn’t a choice made that early on.

In Season 4, Mac's Banging the Waitress, it's stated Mac is only doing what he's doing to get back at Charlie, he isn't really interested in sleeping with the Waitress in any way, in fact he's kind of annoyed that he has to and wants to just limit it to "hand stuff" (which he later claims he wasn't even into). At the very end of the episode, Charlie and Dennis both agree that they view Mac's "tough guy" act and his Project Badass videos as an attempt to impress them because he wants to fuck them.

Obviously this is played as a joke, it's funny that everything Mac does in an attempt to be a badass just comes off gay... but is he actually gay? They didn't make a choice here to tell the audience something about Mac, no, it's (mostly) just a joke.

Once we hit Season 5, they play much harder into this "joke," with every other Mac and Dennis scene being some innuendo or homoerotic scene. By the time we hit Mac and Dennis Break Up, there's no denying that they're playing this "bromance" break up as if it's a real break up. Again, it's arguable that there's nothing here genuinely intended to imply the characters are gay, but that it's funny how gay they come across for each other in their codependency. What's the implication of their dynamic?

Well, the DVD Commentary for MADBU has Charlie quite literally say, "They're gay, they're clearly gay...There's no arguing that they're closeted homosexuals," and whether Charlie is expanding on the joke for the shits and giggles or not is really almost irrelevant. The fact of the matter is that they did write it and act it to come off gay (even just for a joke), and when they sat down and watched it, it came off super gay and they acknowledged it.

So when I say Mac being gay in S4-6 was intentional, I'm not so much saying RCG's intention was to make Mac an actual gay character at that point, but that the heavy handed gay jokes were intentional— and that's what gave them a very easy foundation to build on top of (Mac is in love with Dennis) once they actively decided to make Mac a gay character (S8, very clearly).

Even if the original intention was jokes and not real, true characterisation, it was always intended to be gay ~in some way~

I find it very interesting how Cobs like, very much exagerrates the point that Mephone is a child. Like we know he isn’t, he just childish. And he was most likely programmed to have an adult age, but despite this Cob’s continues to call him a child.

I haven’t really seen anyone else talk about this, but it very similar to an abuser demeaning or belitting their children. When abusive parent figures want to make their children seem small or to make them feel pathetic, they might call them a child or remind them of how young they are, or even make them feel younger than they actually are.

The entire scene felt like Cobs was just trying to make Mephone feel small, like he was trying to belittle him like “I am the parent, you are just a child.” As Cobs says this in almost everything he says to Mephone. “I forget how young you are!” or “You’re still just a child.”

I just noticed a bunch of people trying to say that Mephone was actually a child or whatever, but it didn’t feel like a scene of a parent to a child

It felt like an abuser to a victim
