Yesterday I said my Shahada and did all 5 daily prayers for the first time. I’ve done all 5 prayers again today and have connected with some queer Muslims in a club on Trevor Space and joined the el-Tawhid Juma Circle: The Unity Mosque on Facebook and plan to attend their Friday Juma service InshaAllah. I’d like to say my Shahada again in a mosque surrounded by other Muslims, but I’m beyond happy to have done it now and am enjoying learning more about the Quran and Islamic faith and praying to Allah. Though I may not be anywhere close to a “perfect” practicing Muslim, I definitely feel like I made the right decision.
If you’re queer and Muslim/interested in Islam and how it connects to lgbt concepts a couple resources I found that I recommend include this guide list: [https://taplink.cc/infolgbtq] and this Google drive folder: [https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1vWsmtnWZaoMMWCu4BqVfVqxRI-OvnvN_]. I especially recommend this post discussing the story of Prophet of Lut (pbuh) since that story is often brought up against homosexuality in Islam: [https://thefatalfeminist.com/2020/12/07/prophet-lut-a-s-and-bal-%d8%a8%d9%84-the-nahida-s-nisa-tafsir/]
I plan on waiting until I develop a stronger relationship with Allah through reading and understanding the Quran and develop my religious practice more before I tell those I know in person, but it’s important to me that I begin connecting with other Muslims now + I’d like to share my experiences and thoughts on here :3
That’s all I have to post myself for now. As-salamu Alaykum, I hope you have a good rest of the week and follow me if you’re interested <3.

ShortBox Comics Member Interview: Tan Juan Gee
Throughout the month of October, the Cartoonist Cooperative will be sharing interviews with members of the Co-op who have a new comic available at the ShortBox Comics Fair 2024!
NOTE: The Cartoonist Cooperative is not affiliated, associated, authorized, endorsed by, or in any way formally connected with ShortBox.
Today’s spotlight is Tan Juan Gee ( @juangeedraws ) and their new comic for ShortBox, See You in Hell.
Tumblr media
We’d love it if you could introduce yourself and tell us about your background in comics.
Tan Juan Gee: Hello! I’m Tan Juan Gee, a Singaporean artist. Right now I’m in my final year of university, studying sociology and fine art history. I’ve been drawing since I was little, but really only got into digital art after getting my first drawing tablet five years ago. Most of my work involves illustrating for indie tabletop games. I got into making comics around 2021 through online comic tournaments (or ‘OCTs’) and have had some great opportunities to draw comics professionally since–including last year’s ShortBox Comics Fair (SBCF 2023). Now I’m back with another comic for the fair this year!
Tell us more about your new comic.
TJG: Two girls with a messy past fight to the death in an abandoned city. It’s a short 16-page, fully coloured comic, with about ten pages at the end for an exclusive “making of” artbook and variant covers from friends!
Tell us about your creative process; how did you develop this comic and what are the steps you took to bring it to the final stage?
TJG: I won’t spoil too much because my comic PDF this year actually has a bonus “making of” artbook at the back that answers this question. Long story short, I had to scrap my initial draft. It was a story about two legendary criminals getting back together for one last job. I shelved this original idea for several reasons: it was too long, I kept introducing more characters, and I couldn’t settle on how I wanted the ending to go. With not much done at the end of my school semester I decided it would be far more productive to hone in on the key ideas of this first iteration and make a very tight and focused comic. I drafted out a comic that met SBCF’s minimum page count of 16, then finished it in two months while travelling.
This version leaves much of their past relationship and the current social, economic, and political climate of the setting they are in up to interpretation. But fundamentally the core of the comic remains unchanged–one angsty dynamic between two girls! I even got to reuse the design of the tall elf lady, which was great news. Don’t tell the short sword girl, but the tall elf lady is my favourite.
Tumblr media
What were some challenges you faced with this comic and how did you overcome them?
TJG: You’ve probably noticed that my characters don’t have names. I tell myself it’s because the story means so much more to me when it’s two pathetic nobodies trying to kill each other. The truth is I really struggle with naming characters a lot! I also really struggle with dialogue. I blame this on the fact that my ideal character is a dark and brooding stoic lady who doesn’t speak. But can you really fault me? That kind of character is so cool!
Read the rest of the interview HERE! And dont forget to check out the Shortbox Comics Fair to support these lovely creators!!

The Second: Slow 'n' Steady???
This is a casual little writing challenge to get myself into a habit, perhaps, or if not, to get some words from the meat of my brain to the pulp of the page. All of my stories for this challenge are set in the world of RAVENOT, and if you're curious, you can take a look at my WIP intro right here. And if you're really keen, you can read the first chapter (sort of a pilot as I toil) right here! Now onto the daily ramble.
It's been a slow start to the day today, but yesterday was pretty successful. I find that it's often the case that the first few days of any challenge are fruitful, but the real test comes midway through. For me, there will be some difficulty, this week, as Friday-Sunday are my working hours (what a trial, I know!). There won't be much time to write, then, so I'm not sure that my 5k for the week will come through like I hope. But it's only Wednesday, so we'll see. Yesterday I clocked a cool 980 words, and didn't attempt to flog out any more, which feels like good progress to me. Something that I often do, which helps, is that at the end of each night of the challenge, I'll try to write the next part, wherever I left off, by hand, before I go to bed that night. Then not only does my subconscious eat away at it through the night, but also I find I'm able to make adjustments and notice new storytelling pathways as I transcribe it onto my device of choosing. This month, I'm trying out Ellipsus, which I was about to say good things about, and likely still will, though I did run into a slight hitch while changing devices. (Changing devices, you see, is a key part of my writing strategy. I write on my laptop, on my desktop with the mechanical keyboard, and by hand.) But it's a minor gripe--it took a little longer than I expected to get the passcode to login. Other than that little hiccup, though, it's been working well. The interface is sleek, but intuitive, you can export your work to a pdf if you like. I thought sharing was a little bit cumbersome, as you have to create a new draft for others to be able to leave comments, but it still beats the pants off Google Docs, so far. I especially like the focus mode, which gets rid of pesky eye-catches that might interrupt your flow. Also, no one is making me say nice things about Ellipsus, I just thought I'd give them a go after they were so adamantly opposed to the use of generative AI. All told, second day's looking just dandy, despite how slow I've been to sit and write. Please behold an excerpt from yesterday.
"Stop!" Hadan shouted out, finding his voice small, thin as a child's in the dark. "Be not afraid," the Risen's answer was shatteringly strident and clarion-clear. They raised their hands, mailed in black, and the movement was enough for Hadan. He flinched, and let his arrow fly. The Risen didn't move, as if it knew before the arrow was loosed that it would fall short of the mark. Hadan fumbled for his quiver, unable to take his eyes off the still form of the intruder, who had yet to lower their hands. They were dressed in black from top to toe, as if they'd been cut loose from the shadows to walk free amongst the living. It was difficult to make out their face in the darkness of their hood, but Hadan did not miss the sight of a longsword at their waist, restful in its sheath. "Not another step!" "I have ta'en none." Hadan nocked an arrow. "I won't miss this time, wise arse," he warned, picking a mark in the centre of that black hood. "Pick another place!" "I cannot," the Risen said, "for I am Ravenot." If Hadan's blood had been running cold before, he felt it now as though the ice in his veins was splintering. He couldn't see well enough in the dark to look for the recognizable signs. Even his little town had heard the name Ravenot, and knew that the dead thing that bore it wore a tabard with a balanced scales, struck through from shoulder to hip. That it carried with it a blade and bell and trumpet, and that it went where the living could never dare, and did what even the risen dead could not. He couldn't bring himself to relax, for he knew that the Risen could lie just as well as the living could. What if this was some kind of trick, so that he'd let it in, and once he did, it would mean nothing but peril for the souls of all who dwelled here?
Until next time! Taglist: @rosieartsie @void-botanist @carmillasboywife
As always, let me know if you'd like to join or leave the taglist, and I'll act accordingly.

Letters From Watson: The Noble Bachelor
Published: April 1892 Set: October 1886 [Baring Gould] which is a ludicrous date. By my count it should be fall 1888, 1887 at EARLIEST. It should also be after The Sign of The Four, which is in text confirmed as 1888 and which Baring-Gould places in 1888. I have no idea why Baring-Gould crams these three cases into the first three weeks of October 1886 but it makes his timeline a mess. Watson’s Marriage / Marriages Here is where we first get into major Baring-Gould tomfoolery: he has arranged the timeline so that Watson marries three separate times. Despite the fact that an entire novel is written about Mary Morstan (and Watson himself, and Sherlock Holmes) we have no names or other information on the other two alleged Mrs. Watsons. Two of these marriages are, according to Baring Gould, occurring between 1886 and 1890. Divorce did exist during the Victorian era, but it did not have today’s no-fault legal framework: keep in mind that while women could own their own property and control their own finances it was not something they were automatically entitled to do. (See my previous post regarding inheritance in The Speckled Band.) There was also a greater stigma surrounding divorce. To marry twice in four years Watson would either need to divorce quickly after his first marriage or swiftly become a widower.  Baring Gould has no grounds that I could discover in the original text of this story to set this in 1886. I have not been able, in the week-ish that this post has sat in my drafts, to locate a pdf of Baring-Gould’s The Chronological Holmes, which is I believe where he outlines his rationale for his timeline, as opposed to his later publications. I remember reading somewhere, nearly a decade ago, that Baring Gould based a large portion of his chronology, where years were not immediately obvious, on weather records in London during the years in question: this leads one to wonder why the hell he places The Resident Patient (month confirmed in text, year inferred from current events) and The Noble Bachelor (date referenced as approximately four years ago in the 1892 publication) two days apart. Yes, the weather can change a lot in a couple days. I too have experienced weird autumn weather. But Watson has gone from contemplating buying a new frame for one of his portraits, to be hung long term in Baker Street, to anticipating his marriage in a few weeks, when he would be moving out to start a new household with his wife.
While the publication dates of Watson’s stories, compared to how long ago he says something happened, are less credible than when he lists actual years, since he’s working off old notes, (See timelines for The Speckled Band, where he claims to have been chronicling Holmes’ exploits for eight years: pointing either to an attempt at chronicling SPEC in 1888, or indicating that he started chronicling in earnest about eight years ahead of either the 1892 publication date or the 1891 date of his first Holmes-related short story) they’re usually plausible ranges. A marriage in late 1888 to Mary Morstan also agrees with dates referenced in The Final Problem regarding the eventual establishment of Watson’s medical practice.  Conclusion: Based on the text, we can conclude that Baring-Gould is wrong and that The Adventure of The Noble Bachelor takes place in fall of 1888, or, at earliest (once again subject to adjustment as we continue to read) 1887. It is also possible, though not probable, that it could be 1889. While Watson may be (intentionally or not) vague about dates in the pursuit of client anonymity, the longer ago a case actually was the less likely he is to ruffle anyone’s feathers.  Also, we have absolutely no reason to invent an extraneous first marriage for Dr. John Watson.

i read your wips intro/masterpost, they all look super cool (!!!) but the status sections look like they haven’t been updated in awhile—any updates?
first of all, THANK YOU!!! means a lot whenever anyone checks out my posts! i have a tendency to forget this blog exists, which i can only blame partially on my being in school; i'm part of a thriving community of writing discord servers, and so i've gotten into the habit of sharing more writing there than here. also, from the bottom of my heart, i never have any idea what to post. so thank you x2 for asking for an update, because i can certainly do that!
in the order of the intro post, shall we? (which i have now updated, because it was bothering me.)
The Mortal Realm & Quark: "starting second draft summer 2021," he said (about the first). so that was a fucking lie. summer 2021 i spent working at a children's summer camp, which, while i love kids, sapped my sickly-victorian-boy strength like tuberculosis. and then i went off to college! so quark didn't happen in the fall, either.
both of these are on indefinite hiatus for now, but not shelved! as my oldest long-running projects and the ones that saw me through some specific parts of my life, they're very important to me, and i think about the characters and plots frequently. that said, i've grown a lot since i began each one, so some of my old plans no longer align with the sort of things i like to write now... both are probably due for a rehaul, and as i'm focused on other projects atm, i'm not sure when that will be! but they idle in the back of my brain like screensavers.
A Modern Tragedy: the scripts for AMT are entirely finished! (barring the intermission episode i never wrote, i suppose.) i wrote the last words and immediately encountered some issues, namely: i know how to write, but not how to record and produce a podcast. plus, a podcast-enjoying friend of mine who read the scripts pointed out that honestly, AMT has too many characters to work as an audio drama; i have written a TV show in audio form. and speaking of things i know how to do less than producing a podcast--producing a TV show. so at present i sort of just... have this. sitting on my computer. i've half a mind to just post the scripts on this blog; if you're interested in seeing them... you can certainly shoot me a dm.
darkling: this behemoth is fully drafted, goddamn it, and i did do a round of beta readers over summer 2021. that said, this thing scares me. i am far better at drafting than i am at editing, and approaching a 200,000 word book (yes. i know. i know) to rip the seams out and kick that word count into shape intimidates me. i think perhaps we should all be very mean to me until i acquiesce to sniffing the draft through the bathroom door (??? <- will being mean to me work? unclear)
Valentine van Velt is Dead: oh now this is ridiculous; have i really not updated the intro post in over a year? i suppose not. valentine van velt is out! i posted the book in full in google doc, pdf, and epub forms; you can read it right now today!
love, h: finally something on the intro post is true. this is still in brainstorming mode, less because i haven't figured it out and more because i need to enter another intense hamlet phase to be able to write it properly. it'll happen.
godsong: ah, and we approach the reason the rest of these projects haven't gotten done. my silly little lesbian aeneid is eating my brain. in the past year and a half, i have 1. plotted an entire trilogy 2. written a book and a half 3. spiraled into related AUs for literally over a hundred words. the problem with writing a project that combines multiple hyperfixations is that it will crawl into your brainstem and never ever ever ever leave you alone. ever.
...which is to say that i've written a godsong! i've completed a first draft of the first book and i'm currently drafting the second; i've learned that editing scares me and bogs me down, so i'm riding this hyperfocus as far as it'll take me before i do a beta-reading round. this may come as a shock, because i've posted very little about godsong compared to my other projects, and again, this is because i have no idea what to post. every now and then i get frightened about posting real excerpts, in case it somehow fucks me up copyright-wise. this is a largely irrational fear that i have anyhow. i'm dicking around trying to make character moodboards for intro posts, but i keep running into the moral quandary of whether i can knowingly use unsourced pinterest images, like, morally. unrelated, yeah i do have OCD, how did you know?
thank you for asking after my projects, anon! ^_^ this was a very nice ask to receive and it reminds me i really ought to post here more often... if i ever scrounge up enough pictures from fucking unsplash, we'll see about those intros. if anyone has questions, opinions, or suggestions for future maxblog activities, feel free to shoot me an ask!

A Quantum Leap: A Looming Threat to Our Digital Security
While much of the world is buzzing with excitement about the potential of artificial intelligence, quantum computing is quietly taking big steps. And, while quantum computers offer some truly amazing possibilities, such as solving complex problems and accelerating scientific discovery, it is important to acknowledge the darker side especially in regards to our current digital security infrastructure.
In recent months, there have been growing concerns about the potential impact of quantum computing on our digital world. A prime example is the recent news of Chinese researchers breaking RSA encryption (PDF) using a quantum computer. While experts have cautioned against overstating the significance of this achievement (PDF), it serves as a stark reminder of the looming threat.
This threat is amplified by the concept of "store-now-decrypt-later" attacks. Malicious actors could potentially intercept and store encrypted data today, knowing that future quantum computers could decrypt it. This insidious strategy could compromise sensitive information, such as financial records, intellectual property, and personal data.
Tumblr media
Mosca's Theorem: A Ticking Time Bomb
In 2023, I started to re-explore the concern surrounding quantum security with Cameron Vrckovnik. During our collaboration, we came upon Mosca’s theorem created by Dr. Michele Mosca. The theorem helps one easily and quickly assess the urgency of the quantum security threat. This theorem introduces three key variables:
X: The time an organization needs to keep data secure.
Y: The time required to migrate to quantum-resistant encryption.
Z: The estimated time to build a powerful quantum computer.
If X + Y > Z, then the organization's data is already at risk. Even if a quantum computer isn't available today, it could be built before the organization can fully migrate to quantum-resistant encryption.
For example, consider an organization that collects and stores biometric data. If this data needs to be protected for 40 years, and it takes 5 years to migrate to quantum-resistant encryption, and a powerful quantum computer could be built in 30 years, then the organization's data is already vulnerable (40+5 > 30).
Tumblr media
A Glimpse into the Future
To gain a better understanding of the industry's response to this threat, I attended QuTech’s Quantum for Business Roundtable at TU Delft in November 2023. It was encouraging to see both private companies and public sector organizations actively working to quantum-proof their systems and data. There were still lots of questions and uncertainty. But, organizations with critical infrastructure had accepted both the possibilities and the related challenges.
Given the urgency of the situation, organizations must take immediate steps to prepare for the quantum era. By assessing vulnerabilities, developing migration plans, and investing in quantum-safe technologies, we can safeguard our digital future.
When I started in the humanitarian sector about 20 years ago, I was told a joke that “humanitarian innovation is just doing what the private sector did 5-10 years ago”. Unfortunately, quantum security is so critical that no industry can afford to simply sit back and wait for others to solve their problems. Rather, we will need to work hand-in-hand with the private industry, standards bodies, and government entities to ensure our digital landscape remains safe.

First image generated by Google’s Gemini. Although adjusted, the main prompt was “Would you be able to create me an image to go with the blog post? I am thinking of an image of a panel from a 1950s sci-fi comic where a quantum computer is somehow shown to be cracking open the data being sent to/from a laptop of 2024?”

I worked a whole lot this week so I didn't get around to much orchestrating outside of that, but one thing I did do was send the pdf of my orchestration challenge draft to myself so I could look it over at work, and I did a really thorough analysis of the voicing, which as it turned out, needed some reworking, specifically in the tutti sections.
See, as I was working on my first draft, I ended up writing the big chords in sections, like here's how I can arrange these notes in the winds, in the horns, in the heavy brass, and in the strings. It was easier this way than trying to fit all those parts in my head at once. But then once I did a real inventory of "here are all the parts playing a G4 in this chord" and so on (which really put my brain through the paces, though it did give me some good practice with reading in transposition), it turned out that that approach did not yield a very even or balanced voicing as a whole. Surprising, I know.
So today was the first time I've had a chance to get back into the finale file, and it took a lot of rearranging and trying out different things, but I think I've arrived at an improved second draft. Not sure how much more time I'll spend fiddling around with this challenge, but I have exported another pdf so I can pull it up on the big screen and look over it that way for a while. Maybe if I don't find too many egregious errors in the new arrangement, I'll feel confident enough about it to send it off by the end of the weekend. I probably should get back to my main project soon-ish, so I don't think I'll want to spend the whole rest of the month on this. But it has been fun and interesting and helpful in my continuing development as an orchestrator.

Okay I have a very interesting update for you all, and I'm gonna tell it to you in the order I discovered this information.
So when I was young I found this series of books called The Seven Keys in the garage, which was basically my dad's office space before we moved into a larger house. When I brought it up my parent's told me that my dad used to edit books for a friend and they even had some of the original pencil sketches used in the books as a thank you gift.
When I brought it up to my dad a couple of weeks ago, he told me he was more of a staff writer than editor. Basically someone else would write a really rough draft and he did the work of beta reader, editor, second draft and eventually final draft writing. Also he did map illustrations. Then he revealed that this was done under the work of his Christian "commune".
So today as he's clearing the garage he brings these books to me and now that I finally have the whole title in front of me I look it up and find a free PDF online hosted by what appears to be a Christian media focused site ran by the same cult he was in.
Now, this book doesn't have the writer on the cover. My dad isn't credited for any of the work he did anywhere. He said they were published privately and only really meant to be shared around "commune" members (maybe everyone knew everyone but I know for a fact this cult had a large and worldwide presence).
But this book does have an author credited.
C.S. Lewis.
This cult fantasy book published in 2000 is credited to the late Clive Staples Lewis.
So I asked my dad about it and he just casually drops "Oh yeah we believed in the power of prophecy and spirits, it was popular belief that C.S. Lewis didn't stop writing once he got to heaven, so the first draft writer channeled a story through him and then I did the rest."
If you want to read C.S. Lewis's fantasy novel from beyond the grave channeled by some woman named Marie and polished up by my dad you can read it at https://theaudiokey.com/DATA/books/HL_The_Seven_Keys_Book_1.pdf
Tumblr media
Trying to find the obscure fantasy book written by this person my dad was friends with and helped edit their books but my GOD there are SO MANY self help books about the "seven keys" to getting something

I finished the first draft of the romance novel, Fete For A King, this weekend! I’m going to be revising it for probably the rest of the month, but technically I did Finish A Thing for February so if I wanted to entertain myself spending the rest of the month designing a cover (my theme is “googie-influenced vintage menu”) I could.
(Also the book ends with a lot of story still to go, so I could theoretically write a sequel called Fete To Be Tied where they get married, which I might schedule for later in the year.)
Still not sure if I’m going to put it up for editing publicly or just throw it out there in final form as a hardcopy/epub/free-pdf, but for now, have another little taste. This is between Eddie, the protagonist trashy chef with a heart of gold catering the coronation, and Jerry, the useless-but-kindly distant cousin of the protagonist crown prince.
"Hey, I've been asking everyone today, what's your favorite food?"
"Cocktails," Jerry replied.
"Huh. Actually, that might be helpful," Eddie said thoughtfully. "I'm considering a kind of country house murder mystery vibe, given everyone's going to be in tuxes and gowns anyway."
"I'm being fitted for my gown tomorrow," Jerry said.
"I'm sure you'll wear the hell out of it."
Jerry laughed. "I see why Greg likes you. And a little bit why Al says his dad is..."
"Middling? Yeah. He might go for the cocktails thing, though, as long as I don't actually phrase it as country house murder mystery."
"Murder mystery vibes aren't appropriate for a coronation?" Jerry suggested.
"I think it's fine, but you can see the problem he might have.”
I’ve decided March is going to be about finishing up the Good Omens cross-stitch (or trying to) so I’ve been stockpiling podcasts, movies, and TV shows to have on while I work. (No suggestions please, my queue is bursting.)

Food for thought
At last week's Data Bites, I noted how 'Wales' is a standard unit of area. This week, along comes a map which shows that all the built-up land in the UK is equivalent to one Wales:
Tumblr media
The map is from the National Food Strategy, published yesterday (and the man has a point).
It has divided opinion, judging by the responses to this tweet. I understand where the sceptics are coming from - at first glance, it may be confusing, given Wales isn't actually entirely built up, Cornwall made of peat, or Shetland that close to the mainland (or home to all the UK's golf courses). And I'm often critical of people using maps just because the data is geographical in some way, when a different, non-map visualisation would be better.
But I actually think this one works. Using a familiar geography to represent areas given over to particular land use might help us grasp it more readily (urban areas = size of Wales, beef and lamb pastures = more of the country than anything else). It's also clear that a huge amount of overseas land is needed to feed the UK, too.
The map has grabbed people's attention and got them talking, which is no bad thing. And it tells the main stories I suspect its creators wanted to. In other words, it's made those messages... land.
Trash talk
Happy Take Out The Trash Day!
Yesterday saw A LOT of things published by Cabinet Office - data on special advisers, correspondence with parliamentarians, public bodies and major projects to name but a few, and the small matter of the new plans outlining departmental priorities and how their performance will be measured.
It's great that government is publishing this stuff. It's less great that too much of it still involves data being published in PDFs not spreadsheets. And it's even less great that the ignoble tradition of Take Out The Trash Day continues, for all the reasons here (written yesterday) and here (written in 2017).
I know this isn't (necessarily) deliberate, and it's a lot of good people working very hard to get things finished before the summer (as my 2017 piece acknowledges). And it's good to see government being transparent.
But it's 2021, for crying out loud. The data collection should be easier. The use of this data in government should be more widespread to begin with.
We should expect better.
In other news:
I was really pleased to have helped the excellent team at Transparency International UK (by way of some comments on a draft) with their new report exploring access and influence in UK housing policy, House of Cards. Read it here.
One of our recent Data Bites speakers, Doug Gurr, is apparently in the running to run the NHS. More here.
Any excuse to plug my Audrey Tang interview.
The good folk at ODI Leeds/The Data City/the ODI have picked up and run with my (and others') attempt to map the UK government data ecosystem. Do help them out.
Five years ago this week...
Regarding last week's headline of Three Lines on a Chart: obviously I was going to.
Have a great weekend

Dec 13th, Sunday 13:32
oh no, guys!!
I was out all day and just got back home to realise that I didn’t set the time when to publish todays’ clip... it just sat there in my drafts... so could everyone reading just imagine to be teleported back to this very early afternoon?
I’m so so sorry!! 😰
__ __ __
Hey Jens,
I know this may be a bit out of the blue as I hadn’t contacted you for over two years. I hereby do not ask for forgivness if any shape or form. A lot had happened and for a while it was close to impossible to have contact outside of work. Obviously it doesn’t excuse my absense. I am pretty confident that I may even not have written you yet, wouldn’t it have been for Helena.
Your mother was also the person to give me this email-address, I hope you aren’t too cross with her. She meant well.
I am very positive you aren’t interested to read of anything that had happened to me since our last meeting in 2016. Already four years have passed. It doesn’t feel that long ago. But obviously you may feel different about that.
So where to begin?
Helena wrote me a long text, detailing the main events of the last year and her diagnoses. I had to read it a couple of times for it to settle. It still feels surreal to have to accept her leaving earth that early. I am most sorry for you. I wish I could have been of more support from the very beginning. But now I have the chance to do something and I hope you will consider my offer.
She told me of Lies and that she no longer lives in Belgium, which leaves you at home with your mother and Lotte. I can barely imagine how very hard that Must be on you. I do hope you have enough people who can take care of you, when you put your energy towards your family.
There isn’t much I can do from my position here. But be assured that I already signed the documents to waive my choice of guardianship over Lotte. You mother was strictly clear that that was your preferred arrangement and I am in no position to interfere in your affairs at home. So they should be on their way and at yours rather soon, hopefully in time early next week. Just in case, I attached a pdf scan. Should you need anything else, please do not hestitate to ak.
I also hadn’t forgotten that you turned 18 and unfortunately I haden’t yet congratulated you. I would like to do that now, even if it may seem shallow. But I send you all my best wishes and do genuinly hope that you will find success and love along your way. I am proud that you have the strenght in you to get through such a difficult and exhausting time and I believe with all my heart that you will make it to the other side.
Regarding my mentioned offer:
I want you to be able to persue your goals in life. Surely you must have some dreams about the future you’d like to see come true. It isn’t much, but I am obviously sending money into your mothers, and now your, bank account, for Lotte and yourself since our separation. And if you would allow me to increase the amount by whatever the house or the corresponding insurances may cost, I’d be more than happy to do that. As well as money for university. A good education takes you far in life.
This is not the greatest help of course, I know this. And I hope that you’ll understand that I can’t just leave my work behind, but I am already areaging to go visit Helena in January. I have to see her before I nay no longer have a chance, and she as well asked me to.
If you, for some reason, want to meet me as well, it would make me quite happy to see you too. I understand though if that is out of question for you.
I hope to hear back from you, so we can discuss the reality of help I can provide and anything I may have forgotten to bring up. I didn’t wanted this to get too long.
You’ll find my mobile number in the document as well, but as I said, a signal is a rare occurance.
With kindest regards,
Hendrik
—
Jens, who had been hunched over his laptop for the better part of the email, leaned back, resting his head against the wall behind them on the bed.
Reading the long message hadn’t helped to clear up any conflicting emotions he had felt since the notification had arrived a couple days ago. Jens had expected the worst and the best simultaneously, and what he actually had received left him uncertain about the right reaction to such a message. Was it anger or gratitude?
„So? What does it say? Is it bad news?“
No it wasn’t really, was it? If it wouldn’t have been for the sporadic contact with his father, and the suddenness of this mail, Jens perhaps would only have a more positive attitude towards it. However it wasn’t that simple unfortunately.
Jens hadn’t told Robbe about the content of the mail or why he hadn’t opened it yet. But when he had announced that it had been his father, Robbe hadn’t asked anything else. Instead he had draped an arm around his back, before putting his attention on his phone, promising not to look. Jens trusted his best friend to keep his word and had thus quickly opened the message. Before he had a chance to change his mind.
That didn’t meant that the boy snuggled to his side wasn’t curious.
„I don’t know. I honestly don’t fucking know. I’m glad to hear from him, but I am so pissed about the way he wrote it. For example: Already four years have passed. It doesn’t feel that long ago. But obviously you may feel different about it.“ Jens read out loud, ending on a heavy sigh. He probably could have just quoted everything but that would be bringing up topics that Jens wasn’t ready to share.
„Or this bullshit of three sentences: I also hadn’t forgotten that you turned 18 and unfortunately I haden’t yet congratulated you. I would like to do that now, even if it may seem shallow. But I send you all my best wishes and do genuinly hope that you will find success and love along your way.“ He continued, almost mockingly, huffing an unamused laugh when he reread parts of the mail. „Like, fuck him. What am I supposed to do with that?“
„Seriously? That’s why he wrote you?“
It was very nice to know that Robbe seemed a little pissed off by it as well. It definitely validated Jens‘s belief, that this was a shitty thing to write given their history.
„No.“ Jens sighed again, this time a little deflated. His eyes darted briefly towards his best friend, feeling rather timid as he contemplated how to formulate his next words.
„I needed a signed document from him for the thing that is stressing me out.“ As if he couldn’t be anymore vague. „And my mom was so kind to get into contact with him first. So he basically just let me know that he send it off and attatched a pdf as well. That’s something I guess.“
„I see.“
Robbe’s second arm sneaked around his stomach, thus wrapping him into a tight embrace, as he rested his head against Jens’s shoulder.
„I think I would have preferred him to just let me know about the document and leave out the whole other stuff.“ Jens replied, leaning his own head into of his best friend’s.
He felt Robbe nodding, while his fingers stroked his back gently in an attempt to comfort his best friend.
„What did Lucas think?“ He asked Jens, receiving a soft snort in return.
„Nothing yet of course. I opened this for the first time here with you, dumbass.“
„Right. Sorry, my bad!“ Robbe shrugged a faint pink on his cheeks, as he instantly realised the his mistake at the same time Jens answered him.
„I think I’m glad that he wrote me. At least I know that he supports me in some way and I‘m not simply indifferent to him. It would have been worse, had I needed to chase him down for weeks to get the documents.“ Jens quietly said and swiftly closed the laptop. He pushed it away from them. Jens would definitely talk to his mom and perhaps let Lucas read the mail later on his own.
Robbe sat silent next to him.
„He offered to pay for stuff if I needed him to. Don’t ask me why. But it feels shitty. It is good to have, and I may take him up on it. But it is not what I really need.“ I’d rather have him around, back then and now, Jens finished his thought unspoken.
It was the truth something that felt hard to say out loud. He wasn’t unaware of the fact that he close to never spoke about his father. It wasn’t an important part of his life for years now. He wasn’t even sure what people thought about his father, his friends included. He had met them all way after he left. Did they assume he was dead? No one ever had directly asked Jens before. At least he couldn’t remember anyone had before. There were only a couple of pictures that excist in his home that showed him, and they were almost all a decade old.
“If you want my opinion despite only getting the tiniest details from you, I’d tell you to straight up take the money. My father is always a little stingy if I need more for a month. So if your father offers you something, say thank you and accept it. It is the very least he can do for you. Don’t feel bad or sorry about it, as he should do much more for you. Honestly.”
Jens sat up straighter at his best friends words, Robbe following suit as the unwrapped themselves from each other. It definitely sounded like a shitty thing to do, but then so was the offer. Perhaps Jens would just as Robbe had told him. Why not?
“And if you don’t want to spend it on yourself, use it for Lotte or take out your boyfriend or help your mom with the bills. Whatever.” Robbe added and then shuffled of the sofa, as his phone was ringing on the desk calling for his attention.
Jens watched him, not paying much attention to anything but his thoughts and feelings regarding his father. He was glad that he had come to his best friend who simply accepted Jens withholding most of the details and still helping out. He appreciated it so fucking much.
“Alright, we’ll be there in fourty minutes, I think... yea... sure... okay see you then!”
Robbe told the person on the phone, his best friend’s hand reaching for him to pull him rather clumsy off the bed. Jens laughed at the sorry attempt. Robbe just wasn’t strong enough. But he gave in the second the other boy glared at him.
“Come on. Mayo is already on his way and I’m gonna text Aaron. You can bring your laptop and everything, or you can come back here later to get it.”
“Nah, I have to pick up Lotte at seven from her best friend’s place.” Jens replied, getting up while he packed everything as fast as he could around an impatient Robbe, searching for his missing board. As if a whole fucking skateboard could just vanish?
Seriously how did Sander managed to endure this daily?
Jens must have said that last question out loud, because he was hit in the chest, luckily not by the found skateboard, but by one of Robbe’s loose scattered sneakers.

King Solomon the Wise Part 1
(Take 2)
What wisdom will you bestow upon us today?
Since he decided to drop a bomb on me after I practically finished the first draft :)
Gabriel is Italics
Kimimela is Bold
Verses are Normal
King Solomon is a big figure biblically, having his life primarily discussed in three books, has two Psalms with his name, wrote three canonical books, has two books of poetry bearing his name, is attributed to “The Wisdom of Solomon”, has a legend written about him in the “Apocalypse of Adam”, “wrote” the “Testament of Solomon”, “The Greater Keys of Solomon”, and “The lesser Keys of Solomon.” I am being punished for my hubris. So, because of this Solomon will be a multipart affair :)))). I am unsure of how much of any of these will actually be of use and how far I’m willing to dig my grimmy little fingers into this but that will be a problem for future Gabriel. The webpages I’ve used to gather some information:
http://www.lastgasps.com/Solomon_-_The_Testament_Key_and_Legematon_of_Solomon_(unabridged).pdf
https://www.britannica.com/biography/Solomon
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solomon
(Do NOT at me for using wiki, this isn’t for some English class so I don’t particularly care)
The last two were just for gathering some information of where he appears in the biblical canon and it turned out it was much worse than I realized since he also has other books about him or written by him. Everything I quote will be directly from the pdf file which is a transcription of The Testament of Solomon, The Greater Keys of Solomon, and The Lesser Keys of Solomon. This particular essay will only mention The Testament of Solomon, which is the first 35 pages of the pdf. There is a good chance that this may later be revisited and edited based on what Obey Me decides to throw at me, since, ya know, already doing this a second time cause Obey Me Solomon is a coward while cannon Solomon is,,,wild.
*Note: even though I am using the Testament of Solomon because it is important in understanding and explaining Solomon in Obey Me, it is not considered a biblical canon. In fact, even though it’s said to be written by him, it’s debated on when it was actually written. Even in real life Solomon is shady.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Testament_of_Solomon
Well, let's get to it then.
MAJOR OBEY ME SPOILERS UNTIL CHAPTER 36
King Solomon the Wise Part 1
What wisdom will you bestow upon us today?
The Testament of Solomon is about King Solomon forcing demons to follow his orders in the construction of the First Temple. He was given a ring by God, delivered to him by the Archangel Michael, that would allow him control over any demon. The majority of the text describes the demons brought before him, and who they are weak to (usually the name of an angel that when used forces them to leave). While some of the demons mentioned are important to mention, they will not be discussed in this essay. Instead, we will look into prophecies stated by demons, and some events that transpired with King Solomon.
Page 2, paragraph 5
(In reference to a child being attacked by a demon nightly)
"Now when I Solomon heard this, I entered the Temple of God, and prayed with all my soul, night and day, that the demon might be delivered into my hands, and that I might gain authority over him. And it came about through my prayer that grace was given to me from the Lord Sabaoth by Michael his archangel. [He brought me] a little ring, having a seal consisting of an engraved stone, and said to me: "Take, O Solomon, king, son of David, the gift which the Lord God has sent thee, the highest Sabaoth. With it thou shalt lock up all demons of the earth, male and female; and with their help thou shalt build up Jerusalem. [But] thou [must] wear this seal of God. And this engraving of the seal of the ring sent thee is a Pentalpha."
In Obey Me chapter 2 part 2 Lucifer says to MC “Seeing as you’re both human, it’s fine if you associate with him, but know that he can’t be trusted.
He may be a mere human, but he has a ring imbued with wisdom, and he wields powerful magic. He’s the type of man who will try to subjugate even a powerful, greater demon if he gets the chance.”
So we do know that Solomon of Obey Me has the same ring that King Solomon was delivered to him by Archangel Michael.
Obey me chapter 29-5 Solomon says “It’s the ring of wisdom. Made from brass and iron. I got it from Michael long ago. It was at a point in my life when I was a bit lost and unsure what to do. That was when I met Michael, and he gave it to me. When I put this ring on, it granted me the power to control demons.”
While MC has yet to meet Michael, he is a named character in game. We also know that Solomon has been to the Celestial Realm before (chapter 23-5, Solomon to Mc, “Well, looks like we made it here in one piece, huh? This is actually my second time in the Celestial Realm.”), and while it doesn’t state that King Solomon has been to heaven, it is important to note because this shows that Obey Me’s Solomon has a close relationship to the Celestial Realm the same way King Solomon had to God. King Solomon was able to control demons (keep in mind, by force, not through pacts), with a ring, while OB Solomon “has a ring imbued with wisdom, and he wields powerful magic.” King Solomon’s ring has the power to lock up demons and use them with force, and Lucifer states that “He’s the type of man who will try to subjugate even a powerful, greater demon if he gets the chance.” (Which he in fact has but alas, that’s a different essay).
Note: Chapter 29-5 Solomon says he originally had to force demons to obey him
“Anyway, I’m not sure if it’s because I had to use force to get them to obey, or because I expended more magical energy than necessary…
“I mean, nowadays I can do that sort of thing with no problem at all. But not then.”
On pages 18-19 King Solomon is told a prophecy by a demon he gets under his control.
Pages 18-19 paragraph 65
“I used the seal of God, and the spirit prophesied to me, saying: "This is what thou, King Solomon, doest to us. But after a time thy kingdom shall be broken, and again in season this Temple shall be riven asunder; and all Jerusalem shall be undone by the King of the Persians and Medes and Chaldaeans. And the vessels of this Temple, which thou makest, shall be put to servile uses of the gods; and along with them all the jars, in which thou dost shut us up, shall be broken by the hands of men. And then we shall go forth in great power hither and thither, and be disseminated all over the world.
And we shall lead astray the inhabited world for a long season, until the Son of God is stretched upon the cross. For never before doth arise a king like unto him, one frustrating us all, whose mother shall not have contact with man. Who else can receive such authority over spirits, except he, whom the first devil will seek to tempt, but will not prevail over? The number of his name is 6442 , which is Emmanuel. Wherefore, O King Solomon, thy time is evil, and thy years short and evil, and to thy servant shall thy kingdom be given.””
From the information that can be gathered from this and Obey Me, we do know that both King Solomon and OB Solomon have built a temple. In Obey Me chapter 29-5 Solomon mentions a “large house” he built. “The first time I put multiple demons under my control, I was trying to build a house. Let’s just say it was a bit larger than your average house.”
In the Testament of Solomon, King Solomon is actively getting demons under his control while the Temple is still being built. In the beginning of Obey Me Solomon already has all 72 demons under his control (This is Stated in a Devilgram Guided by Desire) and says that he had once built something long ago (big house my ass). Because of these two factors we can assume that this has already happened, at least in part.
Theory time (I guess look away for potential spoilers for later into the story?)
I believe we’ve already seen the temple built by OB Solomon, in fact we have been there multiple times. Where could we have possibly visited that would’ve been King Solomon’s temple?
Lord Diavolo’s castle
So we do know that Solomon from Obey Me built something but why would it be Diavolo’s castle? What could possibly suggest that?  (this also wouldn't be the first time a human structure ended up in the Devildom considering the story about the House of Lamentation)
“And the vessels of this Temple, which thou makest, shall be put to servile uses of the gods”
I cannot say with certainty who the vessels are for sure in this sentence but my two guesses could both work in this situation.
It’s talking about King Solomon specifically or
The demons under his control
(I’m pretty sure it’s the second one when discussed in The Testament of Solomon)
Technically, in the case of Obey Me at least, it could be both of these. We know that OB Solomon was already picked for the exchange program when it was first suggested. This could have been because he is referenced as the “the most powerful sorcerer in the history of mankind.” by Satan in chapter 2-A, but it could also be because he’s already working under Diavolo. We know that he has been working with Diavolo because in chapter 28-8 Diavolo has to leave your discussion early because of urgent business and instead of taking Lucifer he asks Solomon to go with him.
(Diavolo) “There’s no need for you to come along, Lucifer. Solomon. Would you come with me?”
(Solomon) “Wait, you want me to come along instead of Lucifer…? I don’t mind, but…”
(Diavolo) “Wonderful, let’s go. Take care, Lucifer. And you too, MC.”
Chapter 28-C Lucifer and Diavolo have a conversation about Diavolo taking Solomon and not him
(Lucifer) “Where did you and Solomon go yesterday, and what did you do there?”
(Diavolo) “...It still isn’t the right time for me to share that with you.”
If it’s the demons under his control this could still play into the fact that he has to listen to Diavolo, since he controls the demons with his ring, Diavolo Controls the demons via Solomon. We do know of two demons that have been named in Obey Me being under Solomon’s control that are both technically under the control of Diavolo too. In chapter 2-A Asmodeus says “Take Solomon and me, for example. We’re in a pact together already, right? ...Oh yeah, and he’s got one with Barbatos, too.” Asmodeus is one of the seven student council members that work under Diavolo, and Barbatos is his servant that directly works for him and follows his orders. (Boy I can't believe I missed this to be honest in the SECOND chapter)
“Shall be put to servile uses of the gods”
While Diavolo isn’t technically a god, he is a very powerful demon, and is the prince of the Devildom. Even though we don’t know many details about his father, it is possible he’s either strong enough to be considered a god, or is a self proclaimed god. Remember kiddos! Lucifer may be the avatar of pride, but every demon is a prideful bastard!
“Wherefore, O King Solomon, thy time is evil, and thy years short and evil, and to thy servant shall thy kingdom be given.”
This sentence plays into the last part and the fact that I’ve been suspicious of OB Solomon since the second we were introduced to him. You can’t tell me he’s not evil. I will bite you. What evidence do we have to suggest that OB Solomon is evil though? Couldn’t he just have an evil smile and actually be a good guy? Good question! No.
When you’re first introduced to OB Solomon after he picks up MC’s DDD after they dropped it (i have a whole other theory about how he did something to it when MC wasn’t looking but that is just based off gut instinct and my trope sensor going off and i have no proof so i sit here in a silent scream). When he leaves Lucifer mentions how he can’t be trusted.
2-2 “Seeing as you’re both human, it’s fine if you associate with him, but know that he can’t be trusted.
He may be a mere human, but he has a ring imbued with wisdom, and he wields powerful magic. He’s the type of man who will try to subjugate even a powerful, greater demon if he gets the chance.”
“But Gabriel! Lucifer’s a demon! Of course he wouldn’t trust someone with power like that!” Neither do I. While that is true, it’s important to note because Lucifer at this point doesn’t particularly care about MC, but still makes a note to point out his distrust of Solomon. Lucifer has been alive for a very long time and has not at any point been shown to be an idiot, not to mention he’s also the avatar of pride, someone with that much pride isn’t going to admit distrust about someone, to someone they barely know unless it’s a big deal. These two factors show he has the intelligence to know that someone isn’t trustworthy, and the fact that he would admit it even though he is the embodiment of pride, raises red flags.
2-A “Now, now, I’m not like you demons. I’d appreciate it if you wouldn’t accuse me of behaving like one. I am but a simple human, an innocent lamb.”
(Satan) “I’m surprised you can say that with a straight face, considering you’re the most powerful sorcerer in the history of mankind.”
After Solomon says he’s completely innocent and a simple human, Satan calls him out on it. This could be argued that Satan was specifically talking about him being a simple human (which is a fair argument i’ll admit) but i personally don’t believe that’s the case for two reasons. The first one is that Satan is very intelligent and would know about Solomon’s power and ability and no competent demon will completely trust a human like that. The second reason is the wording Solomon uses.
“Now, now, I’m not like you demons. I’d appreciate it if you wouldn’t accuse me of behaving like one. I am but a simple human, an innocent lamb.”
This wording alone raises red flags because, let’s be honest here, no one who’s innocent calls themselves “an innocent lamb” that’s reserved for people hiding something that makes them in fact, not an innocent lamb. Not to mention the “Now, now, I’m not like you demons.” reads like someone who goes “I’m not like other girls” and it’s like yeah you are, there’s nothing wrong with it but now you’ve made an ass outta yourself so like, congrats I guess.
7-7 (Mammon) “And it’s not like Solomon and Satan and me realized we’ve got shared interests and common goals because Solomon wants some magical items that belong to the Demon King…”
Solomon wants something from the Demon King’s castle, that much is obvious, but what is he looking for and how does this make him evil?
6-4 (Beelzebub) “The grimoire Luke is holding has the power to control a demon-to make him do anything, even if it’s in violation of a pact. Everything that we are rides on that book. We can never allow it to be stolen under any circumstances.”
Look, you don’t drop a bomb like this unless it’s going to happen later on.
“But Gabriel!” you say, “You said that his ring was all controlling of whatever, what could he possibly need that book for?”
(I’ll being coming back to the second half of the sentence “Wherefore, O King Solomon, thy time is evil, and thy years short and evil, and to thy servant shall thy kingdom be given.”  but i have to discuss something else first)
Page 34-35 paragraphs 129-130
“And when I answered that I would on no account worship strange gods, they told the maiden not to sleep with me until I complied and sacrificed to the gods. I then was moved, but crafty Eros brought and laid by her for me five grasshoppers, saying: "Take these grasshoppers, and crush them together in the name of the god Moloch; and then will I sleep with you." And this I actually did. And at once the Spirit of God departed from me, and I became weak as well as foolish in my words. And after that I was obliged by her to build a temple of idols to Baal, and to Rapha, and to Moloch, and to the other idols. I then, wretch that I am, followed her advice, and the glory of God quite departed from me; and my spirit was darkened, and I became the sport of idols and demons. Wherefore I wrote out this Testament, that ye who get possession of it may pity, and attend to the last things, and not to the first. So that ye may find grace for ever and ever. Amen.”
You like how he blames her even though he was just horny even though he claimed to have 700 wives and 300 concubines? All men are idiots in the bible, I swear. (He had one job)
King Solomon let his new wife convince him to worship her gods and build temples in their honor which angered the Jewish/Christian God, and caused him to abandon King Solomon. When God left him, King Solomon didn’t just lose his God, he became weak, foolish, his spirit was darkened, and then had to deal with all the demons left with him. What could he have lost to make him weak and also now stuck with these demons that were under his control before? His ring would have had to stop being powerful enough to properly hold them. Now, biblically, it probably meant permanent, as in, he has zero control or now they have control over him. In the context of Obey Me, it would be a different take on this, because we obviously know he actively has pacts with 72 demons. I theorize that instead of having full control like he would have with the ring, he lost that and instead had to have control via pacts. So in Obey Me, the ring still works to an extent, but now it actually takes him magic and wisdom to control them instead of being able to do it at will because of God.
Edit: We do know that he did struggle with muscle pain when he first used to control the demons, and he’s unsure if it was because he had to force them to obey or over used his magic. Which could also suggest that he did actually force them into pacts before he was left.
“my spirit was darkened”
His soul would have darkened after this transpired. That “innocent lamb” comment was probably very much a joke to him, because he is very much aware of who he is. This also explains why Lucifer is suspicious of him; his soul isn’t exactly pure.
“I became the sport of idols and demons.”
Having 72 demons under your control, and then suddenly having God not in your corner anymore can definitely put a small damper on things. He went from having no demon able to talk him into anything, to having 72 right in his pocket wanting a piece of his mind and being able to.
Okay, so now that this has been mentioned, lets go back to the sentence “Wherefore, O King Solomon, thy time is evil, and thy years short and evil, and to thy servant shall thy kingdom be given.”
Who were King Solomon’s servants?
:) Well, there was about 72 of em
(Note, in the Testament of Solomon it doesn’t name all 72, later ones are mentioned in the other books but everyone says King Solomon and his 72 demons, I’m not about to confuse myself and everyone else because he had less than that in his Testament)
So, now King Solomon is under the influence of a bunch of demons, and was told that this temple he had built was going to be given to his servants, which were demons, and to top it off his ring isn’t quite working right, now what? Remember what I said about Diavolo’s Castle being the First Temple? That’s what.
Considering everything OB Solomon has eluded to with him being THE King Solomon (he straight up called himself King Solomon the Wise, it doesn’t get more obvious than that) and all the information that has thus far been presented in general, it’s safe to say he’s not a reference to King Solomon, but is King Solomon (In Chapter 36, brand new when this was edited, he says he is  very old. I took satisfaction at calling him an old man.). Then taking into consideration the information that has been used specifically from The Testament of Solomon, it makes sense that this information could’ve been used within the game. The First Temple is very important to the story of King Solomon, and Diavolo’s castle has been an important story element within the game too. Then we have the relationship between OB Solomon and Diavolo that seems like a weird professional dynamic. To me, there seems to be information pointing towards his castle being The First Temple.
“to thy servant shall thy kingdom be given”, King Solomon’s servants were technically demons, so his kingdom would be given to the demons. And all the demons, at this point in time, are under Diavolo’s rule, so therefore, OB Solomon’s kingdom is now his. He lost his temple to Diavolo’s father, but because he’s sleeping, Diavolo is in charge.
“Okay so why did you include the whole grimoire bs?”
I’m glad you asked!
Because I needed that in the back of your mind when I discuss a future essay! :)
(I wanted to put it in this essay but it’s gotten way to long so it’ll be talked about later)
Hopefully I tied up loose ends cause otherwise I might just make zero sense hahahaha.
Summary: This essay definitely went a completely different way than I imagined anyone expected, including myself. Solomon sucks, he’s evil, I called it the first time i met the guy, he got bad vibes all over. God I just feel like there’s so much I want to say about this man but like, all of it is just conjecture and there’s a good chance I make zero sense but at this point it's too late ya know? God, I hate this man so much.

Today in "Am I the weirdo here or . . . ?"
So suppose you've taken on a new job, and the previous person in the position gives you some training about it. You've been given access to the email and electronic archives associated with the position.
Do you:
a) poke through the archives and old email or b) not bother
Because I am a), alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the way, and I am currently astonished that the last long-term newsletter editor is apparently b). I sent her my draft how-to manual, and in one place I'd left a comment along the lines of "the last print editor's documents say this can be done such-and-such, is this still the case" and I got back a comment that was basically "I had no idea until recently that Last Print Editor had left how-to documents, the electronic editor before me gave some training and uh that was that."
Last Print Editor used this gmail account and left the documents in the Gdrive, in reasonably-named folders and files. There is also a folder/label in the gmail called "Newsletter Transition." Like. It's right there??
I am also really fucking pissed off, again, at the first electronic editor, who a) did not bother updating the well-organized and explained documents passed on by the Last Print Editor and b) also didn't fucking tell the next electronic editor the things even fucking existed, but you know, I've already been holding a grudge over the transition from print to electronic - because someone who's willing to do essentially the same amount of work, but won't volunteer to do it until it's switched to email, leaving some members SOL*, has my enmity FOREVER.
* It's Not Helpful to put a line in the electronic edition that "If you'd prefer to read this in print, click 'Print' in you email reader" when you know damn well some people basically don't even use email to begin with. (For one thing there are A Lot of elderly people in this group.) And I have recently learned there are some chapters where one member prints out multiple copies every month to MAIL to other of their local members who need it that way. I told this person I'd be happy to email them a PDF each month so they can at least skip that step - I have to make a PDF for the website no matter what - but no reply yet. (ALSO also, like, why did the damn newsletter not tell people they can go right to the website to get a PDF to print? This I have inserted, and if the people above me in the hierarchy don't like it I will die on that hill.)

So, Why Blogspot?
Without rambling too much about it, you all know I originally used blogger to post my writing back when I was first experimenting with expressing myself. I chose it over another tumblr blog because I wanted something simple to use, less glitchy, and a place where my writing could be the focus.
To an extent, that's still the reason I want to try using it today. Back when I started my Ko-fi, I did run a poll on twitter asking whether you guys would prefer my more special, detailed blog posts to go there or blogspot. & a handful of you voted for Ko-fi, which I do get. I was a bit nervous about dividing my content up too much at the time, because I did want to make ko-fi exclusive content also.
But my intuition has been pulling me towards this. I did notice when I was writing on there previously that I seemed to get more views on my work, which is reason enough for the move.
Ko-fi's blogging feature also... just leaves a lot to be desired, at this current point in time. It's good for something quick, but that's all. You can't save posts as drafts conveniently, posts can't be scheduled, the formatting is sometimes a pain to work with and the tags don't seem to work right. She just won't do. Not right now.
Addressing the problem of content being too divided, right now, I'm not going to focus on exclusive Ko-fi content. I'll keep updated commission info on there, maybe I'll still do super introductory reviews for my new decks, but everything else I had in mind will be moving over to Blogspot.
So, now that I've made the move, what can you expect?
Some special readings (outside of my lunar ones and pick-a-cards which will remain over here)
Self-improvement and lifestyle design type posts, hopefully. I'm workin' on it. ;)
General spiritual posts. About Tarot, Astrology, what have you.
More in-depth detailed deck reviews. I'll probably start these off with my Sacred Rose deck, which was my very first deck and the one I almost always use in my Lunar readings. I do also want to revisit my moonology and black moon astrology decks though!
Possibly more. We will see!
And ... that's all. This was kind of a sudden decision, so I just wanted you all to know what's up and give you a quick update on what you can expect from me in the future. Other than that, I am also planning on re-opening commissions soon. They're technically unofficially open right now anyway if you need one, but I'm working on a PDF template and planning for live readings once I have my own space and it's all really exciting, and I can't wait to show you.

True Bias - Ogden Cami
We’re back to commercial patterns whoop whoop!
As fun and as rewarding as drafting your own patterns is, using commercial ones is just way less stressful. (If anyone’s curious the PDF version of the pattern can be bought from True Bias here)
I didn’t take many pictures while working since I really wanted to knuckle down and get the top finished when I started yesterday (spoiler alert I did not finish it in one day)
After cutting everything out I made the straps, and eventually was successful in turning them out with a safety pin (pin through the back layer, tuck the head of the closed pin into the tube, shuffle it through and you’re good!)
Then I sewn the sides of the main pieces and first lining parts together at the sides, assembled everything together, tried the top on before hemming it and realised that the fabric I bought is, as it turns out, a bit sheer. Thankfully I had enough fabric left so today I cut out some longer lining pieces based off the main front/back pieces but cut roughly 7-8 cm shorter.
Then I pinned the straps and lining to the front and back, sewed that together, turned everything out and finally had a good plain white top to add to my wardrobe. Me being me I didn’t just want a plain white fabric so when I saw this diamond embroidery style fabric I knew that this was the fabric I wanted for this project, as it looks slightly dressier and just... nice
So despite having to fix something on the project I still got it done over two afternoons which I’m really happy with, and despite the longer lining it’s still really nice and comfortable to wear.
Overall this pattern was so easy to use and follow, I’d happily recommend it!
