It’s shit like this that makes me want to stop making gifsets. People love taking the gifs we spent hours sourcing the best footage for, editing, color correcting, and any other numerous types of altering or adding graphics and text—and then they just rip them off, don’t credit, and they act like we’re insane for asking that you at the bare minimum credit us. “You have nothing to gain and you didn’t create saw” do any of you understand how art works? Understand what fan works are? Most art is created with no intention of gaining anything except enjoyment and community. What do YOU gain from ripping off people’s gifs? Why even post on tumblr at all? Because it’s fun and you get to be apart of a community? Wow, what a concept. It’s almost like people make gifs to express their creativity and love for something and want to share it with others. Wanting credit for that work, which is honestly just basic decency, shouldn’t be that difficult to wrap your head around. And the hilarious part is they have one of my other gifsets pinned to their main blog.

Also, if I could get rich and famous from making gifsets do you think I’d be gif’ing some of the stuff I do? Yeah, my gifset of Cougars Inc is really gonna take me places!

What is lotrweek?

Lotrweek is a week-long event to celebrate The Lord of the Rings here on Tumblr. It takes place on 16th-22nd September 2024.

How do I take part?

Each day of the week has a prompt. Create an original work (e.g. gifset, fanart, fanfic) inspired by a prompt, then post it to Tumblr! Where the prompt has multiple parts to it, you can choose which part(s) you want to focus on – how you respond to a prompt is  comletely up to you. The prompts are deliberately vague and open so that they can work for gifs, art, fics, etc.

For example, for “histories and legacies”, you could make a gifset of Moria, or art of the similarities/differences between Luthien and Arwen, or a fic about Aragorn and the Dunedain before the War of the Ring.

Will you reblog my works?

Yes! Tag your works with #lotrweek so they can be reblogged here, and follow @lotrweek for updates on the event and to see everyone else’s works. If there’s anything nsfw or that may need a warning, make sure to do this responsibly and put said parts under a read-more.

How much can I participate?

As much or as little as you’d like! You can take part just once or every day (or even multiple times a day if you’re feeling particularly hasty). It’s up to you – just make sure you’re enjoying it!

Can I create any type of work?

Yes! Gifs, graphics, fanart, fanfic, video edits, meta – all are welcome, as long as it’s your own original work.

Does my work have to be based on the LOTR films?

Any works based on LOTR (book or film) are welcome.

Can I include other Tolkien books/adaptations?

You can, but LOTR should be the focus. So, for example, a gifset of just The Hobbit films wouldn’t work, but a gifset including shots from both The Hobbit and LOTR (e.g. to draw parallels between characters/events) would work great!

📢 PSA on COD gif thief & edit reposter

just a heads up that the user @/staytrueblue has been caught stealing and reposting gif sets from call of duty gif and graphic makers. she has blocked people who have called her out on it. she excused her behavior by lying and saying she is "new to tumblr" — when other users have vetted she has been on this site since at least 2022.

examples and proof are below the cut.

when this individual was called out, they gave a half-assed apology and still seem convinced/entitled that they could repost entire gifsets with credit (also see below cut). they then blocked the original gifmaker and then began to make passive aggressive, snide comments toward those creators in their future posts.

this is why i encourage people to reblog from original gifmakers and graphic artists—not just liking posts—in order to support them. it's not fair that these plagiarists gather clout, followers, and interactions from work made by other people.

Han/Leia Appreciation Week 2024

WE'RE BACK, BABY! "Wait, what's happening, wasn't this in August??" you might wonder. Based on your feedback, we decided to host this and (probably) future editions of Han/Leia Appreciation Week earlier in the year. July seemed like the better choice, given that it's a vacation period in both hemispheres!

This year we're also giving you the prompts over a month in advance, so you have plenty of time to plan and create!

Han/Leia Appreciation Week was an event originally hosted at @han-leia-solo between 2016-2019, but for the past three years, we've taken up the mantle here at @hanleiacelebration 😊

💖 How does Han/Leia Appreciation Week work?

The event will run from July 14th to July 20th, and there will be two different prompts each day that creators can fulfill with: fanfic, fanart, gifsets, graphics, fanvids, headcanons, crafts, playlists, rec lists. You’re encouraged to tag your posts with #hanleiaweek2024 so we can reblog them! After the week is over, we’ll share a masterlist with links to the works.

You can show your appreciation in many ways; however, please keep in mind that it has to be a creation of yours of some sort, e.g. don’t repost other people’s fanart, gifs, or unedited pictures. FAQs and Rules under the cut - please read!

💕 Can I post my work to another site and share the link on Tumblr?

Yes! This is a good option for people who might want to create explicit art that could be taken down on Tumblr, write a long fic or multichapter, or make videos or playlists.

💕 Does it have to be a new creation? Can I finish and post a WIP?

It has to be something that has never been posted anywhere else before, so finishing and sharing a WIP is okay! If it doesn’t fit any of the prompts, you can share it on Free Day.

💕 Is this event open to all ratings?

Yes! Just remember to use a “Read more” cut if you’re posting the whole work on Tumblr, and to add a note at the top if your work is rated Mature or Explicit, as well as if it has any major trigger warnings, so all folks can safely browse through the entries.

💕 Are there any length or quality requirements?

There’s no min. or max. length for fanfic or quality level for art, but please note that AI-generated works won’t be accepted. For gifsets, there’s a minimum of two gifs (that must be made by you!). For playlists, there’s a minimum of five songs. For rec lists of fic or fanart, there’s also a minimum of five recs. Some more questions you might have about rec lists:

- How do I share someone else’s art without posting a picture? You might post a thumbnail that crops a preview of the piece; if the piece has a title, you might use that; you might describe it; or you might say something like “this piece by [artist]”, and link to the source.

- What if I found a fanart on Google? Try to find the original source using reverse search image.

- What if I can’t still find it, can I just say “credit to the artist”? In that case, please just don’t share the piece.

- What if I know the artist but don’t have a link to the original source? Naming the artist and linking back to where you found it is okay, in that case.

💕 Can I write for canon/Legends and include other pairings?

All canons, time periods, headcanons and AUs are welcome, and you’re allowed to include side pairings, except for R*eylo. However, keep in mind that this is a Han/Leia appreciation week - at the risk of sounding repetitive, works should focus on appreciating Han and Leia’s relationship!

Goldenheart Week 2024 FAQ

What is this?

Goldenheart Week is a celebration of our favorite gay knights, in both their movie and comic incarnations. We're hoping to encourage new fanworks of all kinds!

When is it?/Why those dates?

We will be reblogging tagged posts from June 27 - July 3, 2024. June is Pride Month, June 30th was the Netflix release date for Nimona (and is the midpoint of Goldenheart Week), and July is Disability Pride Month.

Are there prompts?

Yes! Here they are along with the tagging system. Credit to @candyskiez and everyone who filled out our survey for some good suggestions, and thanks to everyone who voted in our survey to finalize the list.

What can I make?

You can make or write basically anything: haikus, limericks, 100 word drabbles, ficlets, long fics, traditional art, digital art, gifsets, cosplay, embroidery, etc. If you have an existing WIP and want to use a prompt for a new chapter, that's fine too.

Is there an AO3 Collection?

Yes! It will open just before the start of Goldenheart Week and will stay open indefinitely.

How can I help?

Are there any other Nimona fandom events?

"gifs = art" could you please elaborate on that besides the skill that goes into it?

🫥 i have no idea why people are looking to me to explain something that has been repeated by many gifmakers and content creators for *years* and should be common sense anyways but...

beyond the skill that goes into gifmaking (the time it takes, the practice required, etc.) the different colorings, typography, blending and other proccesses that some gifmakers use in their creations absolutely can and should be considered an artform. look no further than the gorgeous gifsets some of my very talented mutuals have made:

@yenvengerberg becca's colorful sets are art as far as i'm concerned! like just look at this. she transforms the media she gifs and makes it look completely unreal in terms of sheer beauty and creativity.

@sith-maul one of the best creators on this site. nik is just so so talented. everything she creates is so stunning; you can't look at a set like this, for example, and tell me that it isn't art.

@hoe-biwan again, everything that flo posts is beyond incredible. i don't even watch star wars and i still silently nod my head and gape in awe when one of her sw sets is on my dash. just scroll through the comic book-inspired sets flo's made!!! that's art <3

@buffysummers ok alexandra is such a talented creator and a HUGE inspiration for me when i started giffing years ago. her eye for coloring and scene picking is out of this world! this is a recent set of hers that i particularly adore.

these are just a few examples, but if you scroll through my own blog or the various edit tags for fandoms, you would see more of what i'm talking about. there are so many talented gifmakers and editors on this site who take time out of their busy lives to create for us, and it breaks my heart when their work is discredited or disregarded or underappreciated. for their work to be invalidated and not considered art when it very much is? not only is it rude, it further demotivates creators from contributing to the site and makes them feel like nothing they create is good enough - believe me, i know that feeling all too well.

i've made extremely detailed and color-specific sets before like these, and it took me 3-4 WEEKS. EACH. i'm not exaggerating in the slightest. and since posting them, they've already been reposted here on tumblr and on other sites like pinterest, twitter, instagram, etc. if you even have like a shred of empathy you can understand why that would anger and upset me.

i don't know why people assume that gifmakers copy and paste the same 5 settings on their gifs, export them, and call it a day - it's not that simple at all. so much more goes into making gifs, and the majority of people on this site continue to laugh in our faces, steal the edits we spent so much time and energy on, belittle our work and claim that it isn't art (and friendly reminder! we do this free of charge and ask for nothing in return beyond clicking the reblog button, and so many of you can't even do that much). i shouldn't have to sit here and validate any of that - the creations should speak for themselves. you consider fanvids, fanart and graphics "art" - so why not gifs, which make up the majority of the edits on this site and, in theory, help foster/sustain discussion and fandom?

reposters all run up and down claiming that gifmaking "isn't that difficult" with zero experience... yet if they tried it themselves, they would know that's so far from the truth. and they DO know that deep down, or they wouldn't steal our gifs from us in the first place if gifs were that easy to make 💀

A fortnight exactly to go, so without further ado, here's what you need to know.

The Rules

When?

The event runs from Wednesday 14th February until 23:59 (of your own timezone) on Sunday 18th February 2024.

Who can take part?

Anyone and everyone who shares our love of Seblaine!

What can we submit?

Anything, as long as it is Seblaine-related! Fics, Graphics, Gifs, Gifsets, Videos, Manips, Playlists, Lyrics - anything you like as long as it fits the themes! I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.

Please remember to use #seblaineworld and #seblainintines2024 within the first five tags, and also put @seblaineworld somewhere in your posts, since we all know just how flaky Tumblr can be about tags!

Please be sensible and considerate. We're all very well aware that not everyone shares our love of Seblaine, and even within our own tiny (but always fierce!) Seblainer Fandom, there are those who don't enjoy mature content, so please ensure you tag everything that you submit, appropriately.

Can I cross-post/combine themes?

Can I post on any day during the event?

Yes! You can post on any day or all five days.

Do I need to submit something for each theme?

Absolutely not. If you want to contribute something for all three themes, then as stated above, of course you can, but it's not a requirement at all. I know everyone has busy lives, so just do what you can when you can.

Can I post a WIP or work that fits the themes even if I started it before the Seblainintine's Extended Weekend 2024 announcement?

Absolutely! I have done this before and feel it's a great way to refresh creativity, so feel free to post anything you've already started, providing it fits the themes!

When do we start posting?

As soon as it becomes Wednesday 14th February 2024 in your own timezone, post your work to your Tumblr blog, and as mentioned above, please tag it #seblaineworld and #seblainintines2024 and make sure those two are in your first five tags. Please also put @seblaineworld somewhere in your post.

9. What/who inspired you to start making gifs

i think cause i already knew how to use photoshop it seemed to be the most logical step when i started getting involved in fandom! just kinda saw other people doing it and thought huh...i reckon i could fumble my way through such an activity. i see amazing sets every day that tickle my brain and inspire me to try new things

15. have you ever had gifs stolen and reposted

sooooo many times. i mean its not that deep because most of the time its just my gifs that get nicked, not my graphics, but i have messaged people before and asked for credits when its literally every gif from the same set. it only really bugs me when i see blogs that i know have decent followings and should know better than to repost without a credit, and sometimes these posts get huuuuge engagement versus the actual original gifset which gets like. 82 notes lol

It was actually @emiliosandozsequence who introduced me to ethel cain, and they have an amazing multifandom/multimedia blog (as well as a sideblog @sparrownatural which is not as active) as does their fiancee @iloveyoumorethangod . @samdeanmarriage, @girltommy, and @butchbennylafitte* also post a lot of ethelnatural (*no incest but still freakery like cannibalism and the like)

other cool multimedia moots are @existenzgun and @iphisesque -- i absolutely love reading their posts. on that note, while @deanwinchesterpregnant is watching the show for the 1st time (i think?) it's cool to see their liveblogging from each episode.

What is lotrweek?

Lotrweek is a week-long event to celebrate The Lord of the Rings here on Tumblr. It takes place on 16th-22nd September 2024.

How do I take part?

Each day of the week has a prompt. Create an original work (e.g. gifset, fanart, fanfic) inspired by a prompt, then post it to Tumblr! Where the prompt has multiple parts to it, you can choose which part(s) you want to focus on – how you respond to a prompt is  comletely up to you. The prompts are deliberately vague and open so that they can work for gifs, art, fics, etc.

For example, for “histories and legacies”, you could make a gifset of Moria, or art of the similarities/differences between Luthien and Arwen, or a fic about Aragorn and the Dunedain before the War of the Ring.

Will you reblog my works?

Yes! Tag your works with #lotrweek so they can be reblogged here, and follow @lotrweek for updates on the event and to see everyone else’s works. If there’s anything nsfw or that may need a warning, make sure to do this responsibly and put said parts under a read-more.

How much can I participate?

As much or as little as you’d like! You can take part just once or every day (or even multiple times a day if you’re feeling particularly hasty). It’s up to you – just make sure you’re enjoying it!

Can I create any type of work?

Yes! Gifs, graphics, fanart, fanfic, video edits, meta – all are welcome, as long as it’s your own original work.

Does my work have to be based on the LOTR films?

Any works based on LOTR (book or film) are welcome.

Can I include other Tolkien books/adaptations?

You can, but LOTR should be the focus. So, for example, a gifset of just The Hobbit films wouldn’t work, but a gifset including shots from both The Hobbit and LOTR (e.g. to draw parallels between characters/events) would work great!

Wyler Kink Bingo - Rules and FAQs

Here is everything you need to know about our upcoming summer of smut kink bingo!

Rules: (adapted from the SPNkinkevents tumblr)

You are expected to respect the work of all participants. Anyone caught behaving otherwise will be automatically disqualified from participation and blocked by the blog.

No plagiarism will be tolerated - suspicions of plagiarism should be brought to the attention of this blog so that they can be investigated.

Fills featuring an OT3 are permissible so long as Wednesday and Tyler are both apart of the relationship (Example: Wyclay).

Please tag ships/kinks/ratings appropriately.

Tag each submission with the corresponding kink listed on your card. For example, if you're writing for pain play, tag #pain play.

If you are creating Fanart, Graphics, Gifsets, etc. that are nsfw, it may be helpful to you to host them on another site in place of or in addition to Tumblr due to Tumblr’s anti-p*rn guidelines and then link them - it’s up to you!

If you post your entire fic to Tumblr, please be sure to insert a readmore to keep posts from being overly long

You must tag for Noncon, Underage (under 18), extreme underage (under 13), cannibalism, bestiality, necrophilia, and character death if your work contains them. If you do not tag for those, your work will not be reblogged or considered a fill until you do so.

You may complete more than one bingo card, but only after having finished one in its entirety. We encourage you to explore writing for kinks that you may not normally!

One kink per fic - meaning, you can't write a single piece containing multiple kinks from your card (of course, many kinks overlap, but the fic will be consider a single fill only). You can, however, write a multichapter fic with a different kink for each chapter - and each chapter will be considered a separate fill!

Free space: Fill this space with a kink of your choice.

We highly recommend that you cross-post to another server as well, such as Archive of Our Own.  We have a collection on AO3 for your creations.

FAQs

Q: What if I missed the signups deadline (June 30th)? A: if you miss the deadline, please feel free to message this blog to see if you can still join.

Q: Can I write a fill for another writing event combined with this one? A: Our bingo allows writing one piece for two (or more) events, as long as both prompts are filled. Make sure the other writing event allows that too!

Q: Is there a minimal amount of words per fill? A: There isn't! right as much or as little as you like.

Q: What does competing for points mean? A: When we finish the kink bingo (August 31st), all participants should post a masterlist of their creations, so we could reblog all of your smutty, kinky pieces. However, if you want your creations not only shared but also calculated using the point system above, you need to mention that using the sign up form. You don't have to compete for points if you don't want to!

Q: Can I get more than one card? A: You're more than welcome to claim another card once you finish your first one.

Q: I have Hyde Sex in my bingo card, or plan to write hyde sex with a different kink. Should I tag for bestiality? A: The proper tag/warning for that case would be monsterfucking, monster sex or simply hyde sex.

2. @ceilings-plaster - one of the best blogs for gif sets that look like they were sent by god; forget trudging through endless gifsets that weren’t made well, this is the blog for the best ones!! in addition to that, the tagging system is wonderful [and so is the blog runner hiiiii darling]

3. @/mirosango - in all my years of reading fanfic [ivylakes on ao3 btw!], i’ve never read such beautiful and gut wrenching as the kind penned by this blog. i’m not one for notifications, but i specifically subscribed to them because every chapter is too good to miss.

4. @lizardthelizard - if you’re an august booth girlie in any capacity, whether it be his character or those connected to him, you need to waltz on over to this blog; from incredibly penned analysis to a deeper look into one of the most complex characters in this show, there’s something for everyone. also, libby is a light in this cold dark world 💡
