DULLED HIM
Synopsis: Zoro found it difficult to detest you any longer
Count: 3003 wrds
a/n . . slightly rushed ending due to motivation loss?
He didn’t like you.
The very moment Luffy deemed you one of the crew, it took core strength not to make a fuss about it. As much of a fool he could be, a Captain’s decision would always be final. Still, that didn’t mean he had to like you. Zoro failed to perceive what you brought to the table, what made you useful other than your place as another bland decoration on the Sunny when he walked by. If he paid much attention, he’d see your effort—perhaps if he squinted hard enough. Your existence was but a bother, and overtime, he’d gotten sick of saving your hide in the midst of a fight all because you couldn’t sense the enemy’s approach quick enough.
Zoro resisted complaining, as it’d ruin his image. The great swordsman, destined to be the best of all time, complaining over a crewmate that couldn’t even hold a sword correctly? Foolishness. He’d covered Nami and Usopp’s asses on days end, and you'd have to be no different. Of course, there were various aspects of you that he couldn't ignore completely. Like your captivating smile that tended to rival Luffy’s when you were happy enough.
..Not that he glanced at your face long enough to view it. No, not at all.
You'd prove to be a liability in no time. Then they'll see. They'll all see how much of an extra, useless weight you were to carry. Alas, it appeared the swordsman was incorrect himself, and for once, doubted his judgment.
“Roronoa!”
“Hah?”
Zoro had taken it upon himself to venture into the green depths of the island’s forest, departing from the docked Sunny with little to no awareness of his surroundings. Had he stayed put to listen, he would've known a sheet of frigid snow would make its appearance on the island. It was bad enough he had a poor perception of his surroundings—to navigate through weather as severe as this was but a death sentence. Zoro wandered aimlessly, and unfortunate for him, not even his sharpened blades could fend off the chilling breeze that ravaged his body. The fire of determination is what kept his soul warm.
The utterance of his name is what pulled him from his concentration.
Swiveling his head around, his available eye zeroed in on you in no time. His hand had instinctively fallen to the hilt of his sheathed sword, his reddened nose wrinkling with mild annoyance. “Thought I told you to quit callin’ me that.” He grumbled, though instead of acknowledging his dissatisfaction, your ears focused on the evident frog in his throat. Unlike him, you came prepared for the weather that Nami forecasted, clad in a lengthy, pink wool coat, insulated bottoms, and a pair of boots ensuring your feet stayed protected.
The snow crunched underneath your boots with every pounding step you took, a look of relief filtering through now that you'd confirmed the swordsman’s well-being. Not that you doubted he could fend for himself. Zoro, veiling his confusion underneath the impregnable walls of his unwavering resolve, stared at you with puzzlement. Why were you out here in such conditions? “I was looking all over for you!” You smiled, the warmth of it stumping the swordsman further, though he brushed it aside. He squinted, his fingers tightening around his sword with suspicion. “What for?” He quirked a brow, challenging your reasoning head-on. He didn't need a pansy to guide him back to the ship, even if he had passed the same frail tree five times now. The slashes he'd carved into the bark made it obvious.
“Well, you hadn't returned from when I last saw you leave– and I didn't want Luffy to eat your dinner because you didn't show up.” You explained your reasoning, but even then, Zoro didn't budge. You paused mid-explanation to spot your crewmate’s unusual flaws within his appearance. Speculating he might've caught a cold from enduring the icy breeze all this time, you did what anyone with sympathy would do. Zoro’s grip loosened up, observing with caution as you removed the flowy scarf that ornamented your choice of attire.
His stoicism wavered once it made its home around his neck.
The soothing fabric hugged his neck, and with you looping it around his broad shoulders to ensure he stayed protected, an unfamiliar warmth hugged his heart as well. “You should be more careful, marimo.” Your voice had always been the epitome of euphonic, but with the lack of obnoxious voices from the rest of the crew to drown it out, it was almost a rich noise to his ears. He wasn't even upset you called him out of his name. His fingers curled around the fabric, pulling it up to shield his nose from being further assaulted by falling snowflakes. While you didn't have the gall to admit it aloud, you thought the garment was worn nicely by him, especially it previously belonging to you.
Zoro would soon come to know your generosity didn't cease there.
The hairs of his nape stood at the atypical brush of your thumbs against his flesh, working your fingers to cover up his exposed skin by grasping his coat, closing it up as best as you could. “Nami says you’ll have trouble getting back, so lemme help!” Your confidence brooked no room for objection, sealing the deal with the way you began to drag him along by his wrists. It felt odd, but not once did the swordsman even begin to struggle against your touch. Despite the sickening fuzzy feeling inside, your words only then registered.
“She said what?”
“Walk faster!”
Dinner.
It went the same, per usual. The liveliness of the kitchen seemed vacant, quiet enough for Zoro to catch the sound of bubbles surfacing in the blue depths that kept their ship afloat. He hardly discerned the ringing clinks of cutlery against their plates, as though such clamorous sounds that once grated on his nerves no longer existed. Even plucking a scallop from his plate made little to no noise, the swordsman beginning to wonder if it was the work of some paranormal activity. No, he doubted it. That cotton candy-haired pest was far away from him.
Zoro’s eye lifted from his plate at last, and as it did, the food he chewed caught in his throat. The mouths of his crewmates, they certainly were moving—fast enough to where he couldn't read their lips no matter how hard he tried. From the way Luffy and Usopp’s chests oscillated from their laughter, Brook’s obnoxious movements that had him out of his seat—there should be nonstop racket ricocheting off the walls at lightspeed. But no.
Their boisterous captain pulled his infamous party trick; shoving chopsticks up his nostrils and proceeded to make faces no regular human being could possibly manage. While most erupted into muted cackles, Zoro's heart threatened to leap out of his chest the very moment a single voice ripped through the quiet cursed upon his ears.
It was you.
Zoro’s attention snapped toward the one seated across him, the scallop that lodged itself in his esophagus hitting the pit of his stomach like a bullet. The way you laughed wasn't anything he had ever heard before, and he came across many adversaries that sparked the desire to dice the meat of their tongues just to silence them. The droplets of mirth that made your eyes glossier reeled him in like a damn fish, the hand that tried to cover that widening smile while you laughed useless. He hadn't the foggiest idea as to why the golden sound that was your amusement was what called out to him, but in a way, he didn't wish to hear anything else at that moment.
Hearing his own thoughts then, Zoro pushed himself up abruptly from the table, resulting in the shaft of his encased swords knocking Robin’s glass over. The sound that finally transferred through was the glass shards scattering across the floor. Not only that, but his faltering breaths that made his chest tight became a pounding disturbance to his eardrums. Silence shrouded the kitchen then, the beady eyes of your crewmates including your own now locked with the startled first mate.
“Watch it, one-eyed wonder.” Sanji hissed, the cook having already moved to clean up the mess. Zoro, not one to take such insults, opened his mouth to retaliate. “Zoro,” It was your voice that rose instead, his lips pressing into a straight line. That concern in your tone, it was nothing more than pity. He loathed it. With a sudden jerk of his ankle, Zoro smashed a shard underneath his boot until it crumbled into meaningless particles. More specifically, until the reflection of his scrunched face of confusion was no more.
The swordsman retired from the suffocating room without an exchange of words, his posture as he exited a silent request he be left to his own devices. Smartly, no one rose from their seats, left to pick at the leftovers on their now lukewarm plates. Luffy, on the other hand, happily extended his arm across the table, prepared to swipe Zoro's leftovers if it weren't for Nami’s chopsticks pinning his rubbery hand to the table.
You stayed behind to help Sanji with the dishes, even though the lovelorn chef insisted you get your rest. Truth be told, you wanted a distraction. Zoro valued his alone time, they all knew that. It was practically a virus how much you wanted to help him—even though you weren't entirely sure as to what his troubles stemmed from in the first place. You weren't a tough fighter like the swordsman, the captain, or the cook. But at the same time, you hardly backed out either, knowing you were a weak link. Still, you made it a personal mission to prove your worth to them all.
You still had a debt to repay, after all.
So caught up in your thoughts, Sanji’s constant calling of your name didn't register until now. “Y/N!” The cook’s voice startled you, the dish you'd just finished cleaning flying from your hands. Sanji moved twice as fast to retrieve it, the plate balanced on his erect knee while his arm saves you from quite the fall. “Sorry..” You were quick to apologize, though the accepting smile on the cook’s face cleared up your guilt. “You're losing your edge tonight, Y/N. I'll finish up here, just get some damn good rest.” His advice was the best course of action, it seemed. With a short nod of understanding, you dried your hands off with a nearby towel. Of course, the thoughts of dinner didn't quite leave.
“I don't think Zoro's feeling well.” You sighed, folding the towel up once more and placed it back on the counter. Sanji bent his cigarette between his fingers, mulling over your concern with a fraction of a contrasting feeling. “I'm sure that muscle-head is fine..” He scoffed, tendrils of smoke billowing in the gap between you both. The cook's words did little to console you, especially when you had a strong gut feeling that you were correct. Noticing the flame in your eyes that refused to be extinguished, Sanji sighed. “..but it wouldn't hurt to check on him,” He added rather late, his hand giving your shoulder an encouraging squeeze. “You're good at that.” His words then gave you enough courage to set out in search of your troubled first mate.
You were grateful for your suitable choice of wear, otherwise, you were certain you'd keel over from the unbearable chill just beyond the door. Stepping out onto the deck, you drew in a breath, bracing yourself for what could possibly come. Zoro would be found and consulted, you swore on it. With your goal in mind, you began to wander the Sunny, caring not for the snowflakes that began to teem from the star-spangled sky, for such minor inconveniences wouldn’t keep you from doing what felt right.
The frustrated grunt somewhere behind you piqued your interest.
Your eyes snapped that direction in an instant, but to your disappointment, there wasn’t anyone there. Until you looked up, that is. The crow’s nest, and within the dome-shaped hut, the training room where Zoro released his pent-up frustration. You felt foolish for not thinking to look there first.
And so, with a sudden surge of energy, the bottom of your sandals slapped against the floorboards to reach the ropes surrounding the mast. You scaled them with efficiency, not that you were the best at climbing such wild ropes, but your determination kept you going. Soon enough, you reached the hut and poked your head through the entrance within the floor. You dodged the flying attack by the skin of your teeth, ducking in time to avoid being diced like the training dummy just behind you. Before you knew it, the clatter of swords hitting the ground nearly had you fall out of shock.
It was the sudden, unyielding grip on the collar of your shirt that kept you from plummeting to the deck far below.
Your gaze gradually lifted, wantonly zeroing in on the beaded-sweat chest before ultimately meeting the scowl of the first mate you were in search for. “..Thank—” But before you could proceed with expressing your gratitude, you were dropped onto the wooden floor with little warning. Naturally, you rolled, and as you did, Zoro’s foot that stamped your back, albeit gently, kept you from hitting a dumbbell. “What, long-nose?” He spat, but instead of acknowledging the venom, your attention was drawn by the moniker. “I'm not Usopp.” Your mouth formed a slight pout, Zoro's eyes narrowing at the sight of it. “With the way you stick your nose in other people's damn business, you might as well be.”
You found yourself incapable of retorting, as he did have somewhat of a point.
Of course, to bicker wasn't what you came here for. “Ror– Zoro,” You cleared your throat, a relieved exhale leaving your lips once Zoro's foot lifted from your back. He looked down on you with a glint of an emotion you struggled to identify. The question you planned to ask, it had been answered. Zoro's eyes squinted, a sudden tension gripping his face. That reddened nose of his twitched, and before long, the imminent eruption that was his sneeze rattled his bones. You climbed to your feet in an instant, but the swordsman’s hand that revealed his outward facing palm forced you to a halt.
“I'm fine.”
“Your ears turn red when you lie.”
Zoro quirked a brow, his hand instinctively moving to cover his jewelry-ornamented ear. His face flushed with annoyance at the sight of your smug smile, the realization that he’d be duped being rather humbling. “You think yer funny.” It wasn’t a question, more of a bold statement of a fact—not that he’d admit such a thing. You weren’t above referring to yourself as a comedian when appropriate, but now wasn’t the time. “This is why I told you to cover up!” You frowned, and his scoff that dismissed your evident concern irked you further. Zoro’s eyebrows seemed to crease, for the sound of your words being sautéed in venom was a harmony hadn’t heard. He didn’t like it. Your clenched fists let up, your eyes beginning to follow his hand movements with a sense of caution.
The swordsman swiped his swords from the ground, sheathing them effectively. The tautness of your face eased up at the sight of Zoro unraveling your gifted scarf from around his arm, just underneath his bandanna. How you hadn’t noticed it before, it was a question left unanswered. The swordsman extended it out to you, yet your declining of what belonged to you baffled him on the inside. And so, he took action. Your muscles stiffened as you processed the encircling of strong arms around your leaner torso, pulling you into his bare chest with little to no warning.
“You worry too much. S’just a cold.” Roronoa grumbled, but as he spoke, you took the time to swathe him in the scarf, wrapping it around his neck carefully. “You’re a fool.” You murmured, nose twitching as the scent of sweat-slicked skin infiltrated your senses, caused by the close proximity. “Why’d you leave dinner early?” At long last, the million dollar question fell from your lips, and it seemed his nose began to burn brighter. He planned to pull apart from you then, but it was useless once you wrapped your arms around him as well, drawing him closer.
“Didn’t like the food.” Zoro shrugged, though the both of you seemed to know what a lie that was. Breathing a sigh of exasperation, your hands slid up his brawny back, up to cradle his cheeks in your palms. The gesture puzzled him, enough to briefly shatter the intricately crafted facade of collectiveness he bore. “Don’t lie to me..” You playfully warned, feeling the way he subtly leaned into the touch of your hands, thumbs smoothing along his cheekbones. Zoro’s expression softened, chewing the bottom of his lip with mild annoyance. However, as your thumb brushed against the bottom, thumbing the swelling with a tender touch, he found it difficult to resist.
In a swift motion, his lips met yours in a messy, fervent kiss, gradually softening into something tender and affectionate. Instinctively, your fingers wrapped around the back of his head to pull him impossibly closer, granting him the wish of claiming your lips so hungrily. The fingers of your free hand traced the broadened chest before you, your occupied hand cradling the head of the man you wanted. The two of you parted reluctantly, Zoro’s tongue sweeping across his lips to savor the sweet taste of your own.
“M’not lyin’,” Zoro breathed, pinching your chin to tilt your head up further, “..but it tasted better comin’ from you.” The smirk tugging at his lips sent a warm flush creeping up your cheeks, unable to resist the smile that made your cheekbones ache.

Sentimentality - Sanji x Reader
Read on AO3
Description: The newest addition to the Straw Hat crew grapples with their easy affection, and especially with the attention from their doting cook.
Tags: SFW, character study, slight slash, scientist reader, no use of Y/N, female reader. First impressions, nakamaship.
Word count: 1397
Special thanks to @mere-mortifer for the encouragement to post my Sanji fics. I love your Sanji very much.
This one isn't very slash-y and honestly feels a bit incomplete to me, but I'm obsessed with this man in a psychological way and need to post at least something, even if it captures only an ounce of my insanity about him and the crew.
Also: thinking about making this into more of a series (as the reader is kind of based on an OC of mine...!). Please, please, Sanji fans: give me any and every prompt you can imagine.
__
Sentimentality
Every morning you settle into the golden-glowing comfort of the breakfast table: the press of arms against arms, the jostling of bodies to the time of the waves, the hard wooden bench softened despite it all.
The captain is not at all what you expected. He’s a kid, and a downright grabby one at that. You have to slap his rubbery hands away from your plate at every meal, and if you don’t catch him, Nami always does.
You sit next to Chopper, whose tiny, furry body is so very warm. He likes to plan the day over breakfast, still thrilled to have another scientist on board. You watch him nibble at pancakes with his blocky teeth (it really is hard not to coo over him, but he has his dignity to uphold, so you restrain yourself!) and sip his milk and grin, white mustache and all. Robin leans over with a napkin to clean Chopper’s mouth, and he fusses, but concedes. Some of his drawings hang on the fridge, secured by magnets. You think of siblings with a pang in your chest every time you see them.
Roronoa Zoro is inexplicably softer than you imagined. There’s something about the curve of his cheeks, the careless sprawling stance, the way his nose whistles lightly while he sleeps. He barks laughter at Luffy, leans on his swords like they’re children, even smells better than Nami likes to say.
Robin terrified you at first, but you quickly became a sucker for her mellow gaze and old book smell. Besides, educated women are always of interest to you. Nami and Robin are incredible, always encouraging: proof that somehow, someway, a woman who has been chased out of her old life and hunted by the darkest parts of herself can uncurl and be seen.
The first few sleepless nights aboard the Going Merry, you stared at the ceiling, heart pounding at the vulnerability of sharing a room. You are a scientist. You’ve long denounced the need for sentimentality, though Luffy manages to wring a few spare drops out of you every day. How could you have accounted for the love that permeates every board of this ship? How have you gone your entire life wondering if belonging like this could exist, only to find it among a notorious pirate crew- a crew who, really, is more bumbling than you could have imagined? How can Luffy stroll into any place- town, restaurant, heart- and break down every wall without a second thought?
And the cook…
You have to look away from him sometimes. The first time he made a meal for you, he sank to a kneel to present it, like he was a servant and you were a queen who could take his head at any moment, and have it willingly. You took the plate with shaking hands and nodded a thank you. When he stood back up, there was a bit of dust on the knee of his fine-pressed pants. You kept your eyes on it as he fluttered around, crooning to the women and brusquely serving the men. What were you supposed to make of that?
Sanji squeezes your heart like it’s an old rag. The way he remembers your favored flavor profiles makes your toes curl. You’re not even sure you’ve managed to smile at him yet, even a month after joining the crew, because he throws you so off-balance you’re left feeling like you’ve been thrust into a hurricane without any solid structure to grip onto.
His… whatever it is- admiration, loyalty, devotion, all of the above and more- has only gotten stronger in the past month. He floats into the lab as if on a cloud to tell you he made you a snack and left it outside, mindful of the potential for contamination. He tells you how lovely your eyes look that day, and every day- that you are the most beautiful woman he has ever seen, and that he lives to serve you.
“A snack for you is outside, miss,” he says today, like he’s itching to bow. “I prepared carrot cake and spiced milk for you, with turmeric, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Let me know if anything is not to your liking.”
You side-eye him from your bench, pipette paused in midair. Miss, miss, miss. Every time he says it you’re left breathless. As usual, you nod and mutter a thank you, still focusing on your work, lest you do something stupid like offering him your hand to kiss or backing him into a wall to taste his neck.
He usually leaves right away, but you don’t hear the door close today. When you look back at Sanji, he’s beaming, eyes practically heart-shaped.
“May I make anything else for you?”
“No. That will suffice.” Something in your chest is shouting at you for being so formal with him.
“I like carrot cake,” you add.
Sanji’s smile turns tremulous and melty. A hand moves to cover his heart. “I will keep that in mind. And I don’t wish to disturb you- your work is very important- but it will be best eaten soon, while it’s still warm.”
You surprise yourself by setting down your pipette and moving to the sink to wash your hands. Sanji is still lingering at the door as you scrub between your fingers and under your nails, similar to the way he washes his after handling raw meat. You take extra time drying off, the feeling of him behind you prickling at your neck.
In the hallway, the cake and milk are placed carefully on a table. The mug is to the top right of the plate, handle tilted at the perfect angle for you to grab. A dainty dessert fork leans against the plate, next to two sprigs of mint forming a heart.
“I almost don’t want to eat it,” you say. “It looks perfect.”
“I can make you as many as you’d like, all with love. Please. It’s my pleasure.”
You lift the fork, and Sanji leans forward with the eagerness of a child witnessing a magic trick. When you take a bite of the cake, his visible eye widens.
“It’s delicious. Thank you, Sanji.”
Sanji lets out a shaky breath. “Of course, miss. I can make you anything your heart desires, provided I have the ingredients. And if I don’t, I will make sure to procure them as soon as we make landfall. And if you want them before that, I'll swim to shore.”
Why does the man have such puppy-dog eyes? You know with certainty that he would do anything you asked of him, or else die trying, and you’ve hardly spoken to him. There’s a string of tension in his body when he’s around you, loosened slightly now that you’ve complimented his food. Is he just that eager to please?
You have met many men happy to go through the motions of wooing you for one reason alone, but something about Sanji tells you that he would be at your beck and call for the rest of your life, even if you never said “thank you” again.
You nod, moving to try the spiced milk, which is, of course, perfect.
“I noticed that you like cinnamon, so I tweaked the recipe to add more.” He sounds hopeful. “You don’t find the turmeric overpowering?”
“No, no,” you shake your head, lowering the drink. “It’s good. You’re very… perceptive.”
“Of course! I pay special attention to my lovely ladies.”
You’re included in this group, somehow. Why does that make you want to push and prod at him, despite the measured indifference you’ve culminated?
“Sanji,” you say, and he snaps to attention.
“Yes?”
“Could I have some marmalade with this?”
This is the first time you’ve requested anything from him. A broad smile spreads across his face.
“Right away.” He falls into a bow before walking down the hallway. When he’s out of view, you hear him begin to run, legs pounding the wooden floor strong enough to rattle the pictures frames on the walls.
You pluck a sprig of mint from the cake, grinding it between your teeth. It’s refreshing, new, with a bit of a kick. You smile to yourself, imagining Sanji in the kitchen, carefully scooping marmalade into a dainty dish, heart thrumming with the thrill of receiving an order from his newest object of affection.

simple words | pt. 1
Part 2 | Part 3 | Read on Ao3
Sanji sparks a light, just as the rising sun sends a beam of light through his tiny kitchen porthole.
Really, he wants to ask Franky if he can do something about that. Sanji’s favorite part of the day, and he can’t properly enjoy it through just a tiny porthole what with croissants that need an egg wash before the dough gets too warm, and bacon cooking alongside a maple glaze that will burn the sugar if it gets too hot, and weighing out the proper mix of five different tea leaves that he knows makes Zoro smile into his cup when he thinks no one is looking, and all the other things that must be done in a precise order, perfectly timed, so that breakfast is ready, but with a welcoming sort of ease fit for first thing in the morning, as his crewmates start to stumble in after a late night to enjoy it.
Not to mention, he needs more airflow in here. Sanji pauses as the sunray reflects off the ceramic of his stovetop to open the porthole. He exhales in its direction and ashes his cigarette after, so nothing disrupts the flavor of this meal.
But Franky worked so hard on this ship, and Sanji knows how much thought was put into every other aspect of his kitchen, his wine cellar, his aquarium with the freshest and most delicious fish he can find, that he can’t bring himself to critique something so trivial.
A crisp gust of wind blows the smoke back in his face, and into his kitchen.
Sanji sighs.
It’s so trivial.
But he can’t get it out of his head, what that stupid moss brain said to him last night.
And he knows it wasn’t personal, or intentional, or even really meant as an insult at all.
In fact, it was one of those rare moments that Sanji loves, when they catch each other in just the right mood, both just drunk enough, both alone.
Their crewmates were all laughing and yelling and drinking in the room over, oblivious to what was happening to Sanji just a stone’s throw away.
Sanji was returning with a few favorite picks from the wine cellar. A red blend for Robin, a sweet orange for Nami, whole milk for Luffy he grabbed from the kitchen, and whatever table wine for the rest, except for a small bottle of the finest sake he could get his hands on at that last island.
And the Sunny hit a swell. And Sanji, normally used to these unexpected changes in his center of gravity from being on a ship his whole stinking life, was too distracted polishing a smudge off the sake bottle to react in time, and lost his balance.
Sanji was ready to go down, unable to break his fall with his arms so full of precious cargo. He held on tight and braced for impact, but that impact never came.
Because the next thing he knew, strong arms were wrapped around him, and his nose was buried in someone’s musky shoulder. He caught his breath, inhaling sharply.
It didn’t take him but a second to place that warm scent, and Sanji’s heart pounded hard. He could feel the sweat on Zoro’s neck from the warm, muggy night, and still smell the sweet rum of that cocktail Usopp spilled on him.
“Hey shit cook, watch where you’re going” Zoro barked, pushing Sanji away from his chest, “You can hold your liquor better than that. How drunk are you?”
Sanji gripped his liquor bottles tighter, realizing that, while he was no longer buried in Zoro’s chest, Zoro still hadn’t let go of his shoulders, his grip fierce.
“Not drunk enough to be getting manhandled by you.” Sanji retorted, enjoying that spark a suggestive comment always put into Zoro’s eye.
But that spark was a little different tonight.
Zoro took a step in. Instead of muttering something insulting back, like the swordsman usually would, he pulled Sanji in closer. “It’s a good thing I don’t like women anyway,” he said.
Sanji’s heart fell.
“Lucky me,” Sanji muttered back. He pushed by Zoro, suddenly resenting all touch.
He took a few pounding steps, but stopped.
Sanji turned around. Zoro was frozen where he left him.
“This is for you,” Sanji said, holding out the bottle of sake. Zoro turned and stared at it, for a moment. Then he took it.
Sanji left before Zoro said anything else.
I don’t like women anyway.
The words replay in his head for the thousandth time that morning, like a knife twisting. He takes a small sip of coffee, a new habit he picked up since his brief stay on Whole Cake Island, and opens the oven door to put the croissants in. A gust of hot air blows his hair back, taking him aback.
He cut it short recently, too short to tie back, and he still isn’t used to having it loose rather than up when cooking.
Nami said she loved short hair like that on girls, while she was cutting it, but that it would make him look like a boy. Sanji didn’t tell her that was kind of the whole point.
It’s hard to tell everyone that he is finally coming to terms with the fact that he isn’t a woman, like they all think. That he’s never been, and it wasn’t until his time with Iva-sama that he finally realized it. That he learned what all those feelings he had meant, and that there were other people like him who also felt those things.
At the time he rejected it so horribly, terrified that he was also like that. He saw how difficult life was for those people, and he didn’t want his life to be any harder than it had been. He worked so hard to press those negative memories back. His childhood. He never wanted anything to be so hard again.
But then he trained alongside them. He talked to them. He cooked for them. And laughed with them. And he learned more about what being queer really was. It was hard, he was right about that, but it was also free. And all he ever wanted was to be free. Free like them.
It would just be hard first.
And he is just finally accepting that. Ever since he nearly lost everything that ever meant anything to him on Whole Cake Island, he is craving that freedom even more now. He thinks it’s finally time to go get it.
It will just be hard first.
Sanji inhales on his cigarette, allowing the nicotine and caffeine to gently wash over him, as he repeats it to himself, still in awe of how good it feels to not only know, but to accept. I am a transgender man.
Sanji exhales out the porthole, and closes the oven gently, letting that good feeling go.
He thinks of Zoro.
And wonders how on earth he’ll tell his friends.

i'm probably pointing out obvious & what was said times and times again with luffy's connection to healing by food, but with the new chapter seeing how luffy literally took the food - especially meat - to get new strength - and how quickly it made for him possible to go back into gear 5,

i couldn't help but thought back to thriller bark - where luffy brought a whole barrel of drink to zoro, maybe thinking it could heal him immediately, like food heals him.

in the next day after the fight with moria, luffy is shown eating cheese but getting not enough strength from it:

(there's also interesting point to make here, that despite zoro taking luffy's pain/fatigue away, he couldn't take his hunger away, (ofc they're all hungry since it probably was some time since eating before that, but it's always a bit different with luffy's levels of hunger. as usopp points out - luffy is full of energy, but he's still so hungry like after every fight. despite all other signs of fight aren't really there..))
then, luffy learns that zoro still isn't up and from chopper in how bad of a condition zoro's actually in:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
once the feast is in full swing, luffy isn't shown to be eating, but rather he brings the booze in the barrel to zoro to get better - because he's thinking it could magically and instantly heal him, like food heals luffy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
side note - after rereading this now, the last few chapters luffy isn't shown even being near food or holding any drink, he hangs around brook and the piano, and learns about his connection to laboon, but even with sanji cooking just behind him, the ones who are mostly shown celebrating with food are franky, usopp, chopper, nami and the rest of the survivors
Tumblr media
and it isn't until the very end, when they're all together back on sunny, and with zoro up, that they celebrate brook joining the crew properly with a toast:
Tumblr media
---
of course, luffy healing from food isn't anything new. it just made me think about this from the recent chapter because it's the first arc i'm reading weekly, but also the intention of luffy knowing how fast the food will help him is nice to read.
previously the food was important for him usually after battles, or someone gave it to him, or it almost cost his life when he couldn't eat on time -
like whole cake island, it worked instantly
Tumblr media
and now on egghead twice already too:
Tumblr media
with the giant's helpful provisions lol
Tumblr media
so in some way i feel it might have worked with zoro on thriller bark too, to a certain point - with the way they both woke up on wano & respectively yelled for booze and meat - that might have been the thought that luffy knew they were kind of similar - stubborn and simple in what they needed to heal.

Hiii lovvie hope your doing super well. As request are open may I request Nami and robin, boa hancock x male reader with a cute personlity, just too sweet. And loves giving hugs and kisses all the time. In headcanons if thats okey with you.
Thanks in before hand❤
A/N: ooo my first request for the op girlies i hope you enjoy reading this as much as i enjoyed writing it!! Pairing: Nami x Male!Reader, Robin x Male!Reader, Boa x Male!Reader CW: None WC: 918 Nami:
Nami is initially taken aback by just how sweet you are, but she quickly warms up to the affection, especially when you officially become her boyfriend.
You likely have a million cute nicknames for her, and the act of coming up behind her, wrapping your arms around her, kissing her cheek, and calling her the most tooth-rottingly fluffy nickname has her blushing like a fool, making her day absolutely perfect.
You seem to have a sixth sense for knowing exactly when she needs a hug or a kiss. For instance, after working tirelessly to keep the crew safe from an unexpected weather event, even though she seemed fine, she's truly okay when you bring her in for a hug, holding her tight against you and praising her amazing work.
You are the only person who is not a victim of her endless amount of debt, leaving the rest of the crew jealous of you.
If you thought the jealousy stopped there, wait until the crew finds out that Nami frequently spends her money on you. She gives you so many gifts, and she is absolutely elated to show you what she got on her shopping sprees. You always respond in kind by accepting every gift with a million kisses planted across her face.
She isn’t shy about PDA, so your affectionate personality will not be hidden. Be prepared to always hold hands with her, constantly give her kisses, and receive kisses as well.
Nami takes on a more dominant role in the relationship. If anyone ever bothers either of you, she would be the first to bark out some form of retaliation, defending both of you. You could jump in as well, but good luck with that—Nami has already scared off the foe.
Nami loves teaching you about the weather, map charting, or anything of the sort. She sees how enthusiastic you are about her interests, and it just pushes her to ramble on into the late hours, showing you bits and pieces of the things she knows best. By the end of it, you could honestly become a navigator on your own.
You are the best boyfriend Nami could ask for, and she would not change a thing for the world.
Robin:
Robin greatly appreciates your sweet and affectionate nature. Your hugs and kisses never fail to bring a smile to her face, and she will always reciprocate with gentle touches and kisses of her own.
One of her favorite pastimes is sitting on your lap, reading a book while you read something of your own. Don’t (do) ask her about what she's reading though because you will have her wrapped around your finger. It's adorable watching her shift in your lap, turning to you to ramble about the contents of her book, and you just sit there, staring with complete and utter infatuation. Who knows what she's rambling about? All Robin knows is that she is very happy to have a boyfriend who is willing to listen to her interests.
You both always look out for each other. Constantly bringing each other snacks and drinks, dragging each other to bed after a long day, and patching each other's wounds up after battle, you two are just the cutest.
Robin is not the biggest fan of PDA. She would rather keep to pinky holding or light touches, but she would never deny you if you were to give her kisses on the cheek.
She truly appreciates the way you can make her smile and laugh at any and all times. You are her ball of sunshine.
Robin is utterly in love with you, and you better cherish it because you will have no better girlfriend than her.
Boa:
Catch Boa showing you off whenever she can. She will absolutely parade you around, arms locked, her leaning against you, staring at you with heart eyes, making everyone jealous of you.
Outwardly, she is the more dominant one in the relationship, making all the calls for you, but just give her a kiss on the cheek, and watch as she crumbles apart under your touch.
No one understands how you’ve managed to get the Pirate Empress wrapped around your finger, but you did it.
She is a huge gift giver. You can’t leave her alone for one second without her coming back giving you the most extravagant gifts. And she loves that you always respond to her gifts with a smile on your face. You are just the absolute sweetest, and she adores it.
She love love loves the affection from you. You have to hold back the kissing and the cuddling unless you actually want to send her into cardiac arrest.
Boa is so protective of you and gets jealous very easily. You were nice to that random girl who said hi to you? You can't help it! It’s in your nature! Too late though, because that girl is already turned to stone. You are only hers, and you just have to accept that you can't breathe in the presence of other women unless you want them to get turned to stone.
It’s okay, though. You can find a workaround by reassuring her, holding her close, and lining her body with kisses and muttering phrases to ensure that she is the only one for you and you are going nowhere.
Boa really does appreciate and love you. You have captured the most beautiful woman in the world's heart; don't you dare let it get away.

Tumblr media
You and Sanji never had anything in common. He likes to smoke, you like to drink tea–he loves  to cook, you love to eat, he uses his legs and feet to fight–you use your hand. You and him never had anything in common, yet the way you called his name–send shivers on his back, the way he calls your name calms the storm in your mind—yet despite the differences and in the deep sea of all blue—you and him have something in common.
The day you met him at Baratie, it gave away that Sanji wears his heart on his sleeves–the way his eyes lingered at the table where you and Nami sat, the way his hands ghostly shadows your plate as he served the food–he was mesmerising and breath-taking. As he continues to unravel everything about him, he fits perfectly as the cook of the crew. With him being the best cook in the East Blue, it’s not doubt that the future pirate-king needs someone like him in his crew, it’s not doubt that a pirate demon hunter finds the blonde’s cooking amazing, it’s no doubt that the certain liar of the crew praises his cook, it’s no doubt that the great navigator finds his cooking remarkable—and there’s you, it’s funny, how you kept quiet when he waits for your reaction–hell, everyone’s waiting for your reaction, as you gave him a small nod and a laugh.
He wore your laugh in his mind—wishing he could make you laugh every time he cooks. As the days passed by like the straw-hats voyage in the sky, land, and sea; he would notice himself looking for your presence–yes, he falls for every woman he sees, but something about you is pulling him in, that despite him making Nami and Robin smile, he yearns for yours, he wished he can see yours.
He watched in the deck as you spar with the green haired swordsman, how he chuckles to himself that you’re making Zoro sweat and thrive hard yet a part of him was mad that you’re spending time with the marimo and not him. But a part of him is quite warm as he saw you dance in the presence of the crew, that none of them knows that in the middle of the night–you told him stories he never heard off, he made you tea you never knew existed. That side of yours–he’s thankful, he’s the only person who can see it.
So, it surprised him, when he saw your eyes fill with relief when you saw him again at the edge of Skypiea, at Enies Lobby, at Thriller bark. It baffled him, when he saw you looked like you’re about to cry as you saw him–damn, if only he knew who gave you the wound in your head, lips, and arms, he would’ve kicked everyone, including Zoro. But it washed away, when you were alone with him on those nights–as you mutter that you’re thankful he’s okay. That you both are alright.
With all the fights and wars the crew had faced–the thing that scared Sanji and you the most, was the time when the crew didn’t see each other for two years–he wondered if you have eaten yet, wondered if you sleep okay, and wondered if you would still be the same the next time he sees you; you wondered is he’s doing okay, you wondered if he ever muttered your name, and you wondered if he still remembers the way you like your tea.
“You’ve grown taller…” You whispered as you saw each other again after two-years, with a nosebleed, he chuckled. “I did.”
He loved that he’s back, you’re back. As the night deepens, you’re there with him again.
“How was it?”
“Hm?”
“Two years.”
“I don’t know, it’s great that I got stronger but it sucked.”
“Why does it sucked.”
“You weren’t there, Sanji.”
“Oh.”  He swore to his dickhead dad, he died right there. You chuckled as his red cheeks reached his ears, as he grins deeply.  But before he can say anything in your words–he felt your lips on his as you leaned on the counter as he prepared your tea.
He felt the cup become warm as he stopped pouring your tea. You’re about to pull away as you want to drink your tea–the cook leaned closer, he missed you and he had you, you smiled in his kiss. As you two pulled away for air; he chuckled loudly. “Wipe that stupid grin and nosebleed on your face, curly brows.” You teased as you took the cup and drank your tea.
That night changed everything, the crew didn’t missed the way he treats you differently the way he treats Robin and Nami, the way he would sit closer to you while enjoying the bliss of sunset in the ship–how he would not let Brook, Franky, and Usopp stare at you for too long. He hates how you still choose Zoro to spar with—
“You know we’re related, right?”
“You and marimo?!”
God, he missed that.
But—his heart breaks as remembers how he stood there in aisle at whole-cake island, he hated it–how your eyes breaks the moment he sees you again: how his heart breaks when he hears you sobbing in his chest when he came back–how you slapped him across his face when you found out that he let Luffy starve–how his chest tightens when you pulled him into a kiss: the deepest kiss you gave him.
As your soft breaths reach his lips–he knew you thought you almost lost him. In the room where it’s just the two of you, his clothes were on the floor and so was yours. As you mutter his name as if he was a saint sent only for you. How his hands marks and caress every part of you as you kiss every inch of him as you memorise everything in his body. You kissed him again, again, and again–how you wish you would still taste him as you close your eyes.
You looked beautiful as he stared down at you, he felt tears as he placed his hand on your cheeks yet you muttered that you love him under your breath, he blamed himself as you cried in this sacred moment, he wanted to stop and hold you but–you want him.
“Please…’Ji..” You muttered again as he moved with your body in sync, at that moment, his breath got rigged, your breaths were catching themselves, his hands were holding your hand tight, as you felt the heat of the room. He whispered a praise or somewhat a prayer to you.
“I love you too.” He chuckled as he ghostly kissed your neck as you nodded softly. You left some kisses on the crown of his head as he collapsed into you. As your hand dances in his golden hair–he continues to utter his apologies to you in which you forgive him.
Things turned differently after that time–after the whole-cake island–and fighting side-by-side in Wano. You felt the sunlight enter the room as your eyes fluttered, you saw Sanji’s sleeping state. With a smile on your face, you listen to his heartbeat as he sleeps, while looking at yours and his intertwined bodies inside the blanket–as the events of last night lingered when you saw your hand marks on his chest.
“Mon amour, what’s wrong?”
You placed your chin on his chest. “Nothing. We won.” He smiled sheepishly and nodded as he gave you a morning kiss. “We won.” He nodded once again. You two laid there for a while as you heard Franky cheering that Zoro and Luffy are awake–with a cheer, the entire city of Wano threw the biggest banquet there is–cheers, beers, and food are present everywhere.
A swamp of girls fell into Sanji’s arms–his eyes lingered to yours. He chuckled as you just raised your cup and gave him a flying kiss. In which, he melted into. As the night dips deeper in the moon, he notices that you and Franky are guiding back the drunk ass of Zoro and Usopp in their room, with a smile, he stole you from Franky.
When he stole you—he walked with you in the forest of Wano as lights of fireflies guided the two of you. You two enjoyed the presence of each other in silence.
“What’s with the stare?”
“Nothing. You just look pretty, my love.”
“Me? I look like a mess, Usopp was holding dearly for his life on my shoulder as we walked him and Zoro.” you rubbed your temples. In which he chuckled.
As you two sat down and found a nice view of Wano–you leaned your head into his shoulder. “I’m glad we’re fine. You and I, and the crew.” You admitted. In which, he just hummed. As he ghostly kiss, your hand.
“Zoro told me what you told him to do…” There’s a hint of disappointment in your voice. In which, he was about to speak but you cut him off. “If you still think you’re going to lose your mind—just know I’ll pull you back and please, don’t wish for death.”
In your words, he finds himself not being able to breathe. He just nodded. “I finally found my family in the sea, ‘Ji, and you’re part of them–so, don’t think you’ll get rid of me that easily…” He enjoyed you being like this, being able to take the words out of his mouth.
“I don’t plan to, darling.” He kissed your head and held your hand tightly.
“We should get married.” You responded as you turned to look at him. With a smile, you were surprised when you heard him sigh in disappointment—”What?” it left you confused, he pushed you off him.
“You’re unbelievable.” He uttered as he stood up and walked away. You were confused and on the brink of tears. “It doesn’t need to be now! I mean I want to marry you–just—did he hit his head so much?” You asked yourself, as you sigh in defeat and a pout.
You were surprised to see him walking back towards you with a small flower in his hand. “You always surprise me…” He said as gave the small flower to you.
“You can do anything to me–whatever you want.” You stood up and stared at him as he knelt down on one knee.
“Just don’t ask for marriage–that’s my queue. So, mon amour…”
You felt tears stinging yours and his eyes.
“Will you marry me?”

Chapter 5: A Race Against Time

You glance over at Zoro, who is struggling to get up, gritting his teeth in pain. "Zoro," you mutter with a strained voice, your concern evident.
Zoro lifts his head slowly, memories flashing in his mind of the last time he faced Kuma at Thriller Bark—the unbearable pain he took on to save his captain. You push yourself up, trying to steady yourself next to Sanji, your legs barely supporting you.
"I see you survived, Roronoa," Kuma's deep voice rumbles as he stares down at Zoro.
"Just barely," Zoro replies, his voice strained but resolute. "I’ve got your mercy to thank for that."
Usopp, his panic rising, tries to pull Zoro back. "Zoro, now's not the time to talk to the enemy! We need to get out of here!"
Kuma remains calm, slowly removing his left glove while holding his Bible in his right hand. "If you could take a vacation, where would you like to go?" he asks, his tone eerily calm.
Your eyes widen in horror as you realize what’s about to happen. "Zoro, watch out!" you cry, but it’s too late. Kuma’s massive paw touches Zoro, and in an instant, he vanishes.
Usopp’s face goes pale as he takes in what just happened. “Z-Zoro?”
You gasp, your hand trembling as you reach out to the spot where Zoro was standing just moments ago. Tears well up in your eyes, spilling over as you collapse to your knees. "Zoro! No!" you scream, the anguish in your voice cutting through the chaos around you.
Brook's head rises slowly, his hollow eyes filled with dread. "Is he gone?" he asks, almost not wanting to hear the answer.
Usopp’s panic escalates as he frantically searches for any sign of Zoro. “Zoro, oh man, oh man! Where did he go?!”
Sanji, his usual confidence shaken, stares in disbelief at the spot where Zoro had been just moments ago. "What the...?"
On the right side, Nami watches in horror, her heart sinking at the sight of Zoro’s sudden disappearance. "No... it can't be," she whispers, her voice trembling with fear.
Franky, his usual bravado absent, glances at Nami and then back to where Zoro vanished. "What the hell just happened? Zoro… is he really gone?" he mutters, his voice heavy with worry.
On the left side of the battlefield, Robin collapses to her knees, her composure shattered. She clutches her hands to her chest, tears forming in her eyes. “Zoro… no,” she whispers, her voice breaking.
Luffy, struggling to rise, gasps for air, his body trembling from the pain and exhaustion. “Zoro…” he mutters, the name barely audible as it escapes his lips.
Back on the battlefield, Usopp falls to his knees, his voice breaking as he yells for Zoro. “Zoro! What did you do to him?!” His hands clenched into fists, shaking with a mixture of fear and anger as he glared at Kuma. “Where’s Zoro?! Answer me!”
Kuma remains eerily calm, his towering figure standing unmoved by Usopp’s desperation. The silence is deafening, his lack of response only intensifying the dread that hangs in the air.
You cry out, “Usopp, please…,” your voice filled with desperation, knowing that any resistance might lead to more harm.
Sanji, catching sight of the escalating danger, carefully lifts you into his arms, his heart heavy with guilt and worry. “We can’t stay here,” he mutters, more to himself than anyone else. “We’ve got to go, now.”
As Sanji starts to carry you away, your head turns instinctively toward the sound of Luffy’s anguished cry. “Zoro!” Luffy’s voice cracks with raw emotion, the pain and confusion clear on his face. He can’t comprehend what just happened, his mind reeling from the loss of his crewmate.
Through your blurred vision, you see Chopper, now transformed into a monstrous form, charging forward with a roar. “Chopper… is that you?” you whisper, barely able to process the sight of your friend consumed by rage.
Robin, eyes wide with fear, pulls Luffy back, her grip firm as she tries to keep him safe. They both stumble, crashing to the ground as Robin desperately calls out, “Chopper, stop! You’re losing control!” But her words seem to fall on deaf ears as Chopper’s rampage continues, his mind overtaken by fury.
In the distance, Rayleigh and Kizaru’s battle rages on, their attacks sending shockwaves through the battlefield. Kizaru’s gaze shifts briefly to Kuma, his curiosity piqued. “Kuma… What are you doing here?” he muses, his voice tinged with both suspicion and interest.
Rayleigh, noticing Kizaru’s distraction, narrows his eyes. “There’s nothing more I can do for them,” he mutters under his breath, frustration gnawing at him as he realizes the limits of his power.
Suddenly, Luffy’s voice rings out again, filled with desperation and anger. “Sentomaru! What did Kuma do to Zoro?!” His voice echoes across the battlefield, demanding answers that no one seems to have.
Sentomaru turns to Luffy, his expression grave. “Even I don’t know exactly what happens,” he admits, his tone unusually somber. “But they say Kuma’s paw can send people flying for three days and nights. No one knows where they end up… or if they’re even alive.”
Back at the front, Kuma continues his approach, his presence looming over Usopp. Fear grips Usopp as he watches Kuma draw closer. “Stay back!” Usopp yells, trying to keep his voice steady, though it trembles with fear.
Sanji, holding you close, looks over his shoulder and his heart skips a beat. PX-1, the other Pacifista, is back, its laser aimed directly at Usopp. “Usopp, move!” Sanji shouts, urgency clear in his voice as he tries to warn his friend.
Usopp turns just in time to see the bright glow of the laser charging. Time seems to slow down, the air thick with tension. But before the laser can fire, Kuma teleports, reappearing beside PX-1. With a commanding voice, he orders, “Do not interfere.”
The Pacifista halts, its attack dissipating into nothingness. Usopp’s breath catches in his throat as he stares at Kuma, his mind struggling to make sense of what just happened. “What… what is going on?” Usopp whispers, overwhelmed by the chaos around him.
Sanji, breaking the silence, mutters in disbelief, "He... erased him... but why?" The real Kuma, now turned around, faces the battlefield once more. Sentomaru is seething with anger, shouting, "Kuma, what the hell?! PX-1 was on our side!"
Luffy's voice cuts through the tension. "Hey, everyone! Just run! We’ll figure out what to do once everyone is safe! Run!!" His urgency is clear, and though everyone is stunned by the sudden command, they know they must move.
Usopp, noticing Sanji struggling to carry you, steps forward. “Sanji, let me take her. You’ve got enough to handle already.”
Sanji hesitates, his face a mix of worry and frustration. He glances at you, and though he wants to keep holding on, he knows Usopp is right. With a reluctant nod, he agrees, "Yeah, just... take care of her."
As Usopp carefully takes you into his arms, Kuma turns his attention back to your group. Brook steps forward, his bony form standing tall between you and the approaching threat. “Go, you three. I'll cover you.”
“Brook, what? No!” you protest, your voice strained with emotion. The thought of leaving him behind gnaws at you, but Brook’s resolve is unwavering.
Kuma, now ready, begins to lower his massive hand toward the group. Brook, standing firm, shields you, Sanji, and Usopp, determination radiating from his skeletal frame. “I’ll protect you, even if it costs me my life! Oh, but I’m already dea—” Brook’s sentence is abruptly cut off as he disappears, just like Zoro.
Luffy, watching from a distance, can’t believe his eyes. Another one of his crew, gone in an instant. "Brook!" he yells, his voice raw with disbelief and pain.
Usopp is paralyzed with fear, his eyes wide as he tries to comprehend what just happened. You scramble off Usopp, crawling frantically towards the spot where Brook had been standing mere moments ago. Your hands clutch the dirt as tears stream down your face, your voice breaking as you cry out, “Brook, no!!” The sound of your anguish echoes through the battlefield, your heart shattering with each passing second.
You bow your head, your fingers digging into the ground as if you could somehow pull your friend back from the void. "How could this have happened?" you think, the weight of the loss crushing you. Your chest tightens as the reality of the situation sinks in, the hopelessness washing over you.
Sanji, unable to contain his rage, grips his hair, yanking at it in frustration. “Bastards! I’m letting this guy take all my friends, and I can’t do a damn thing!” His voice trembles with fury and despair, the helplessness gnawing at him. In his anger, Sanji shoves Usopp telling him to get back, causing him to stumble and fall. The frustration in his heart mirrors your own, both of you overwhelmed by the loss.
You continue to cry, your body shaking with every sob as you let out frustrated yells, the sound raw and broken. If any enemy were lurking nearby, they’d laugh and ridicule you, the so-called warrior pirate Y/N, reduced to tears of defeat. But you don’t care. Your friends—your family—are gone, and the world feels as though it’s crumbling around you.
“Sanji!” Usopp shouts, his eyes wide with fear and urgency. “Usopp, I’m gonna need you to start running.”
Sanji’s face hardens with resolve. “Not a chance!” he retorts fiercely. “I’m not leaving without you guys.” He curses under his breath, his anger palpable. “No one does that to my crewmates!” Sanji charges forward, fists ready to strike.
“Sanji, stop it!” you scream, your voice cracking with desperation.
Luffy’s voice cuts through the chaos. “Sanji, just run!”
But Kuma, having anticipated Sanji’s move, raises his paw. The attack is deflected with an eerie precision, sending Sanji crashing violently to the ground.
“Sanji!” you scream, your voice raw as you struggle to rise. Weak and disoriented, you crawl backward, panic seizing you as Kuma’s presence looms closer.
Usopp, eyes wide with fear, starts unleashing attack after attack on Kuma, his movements frantic. “Why isn’t anything working?” he yells, stumbling back as Kuma steadily advances.
You brace yourself, trying to shield yourself from the inevitable, but Kuma’s focus shifts to Usopp. “Usopp, get up and run! Save yourself!” you shout, your voice cracking with desperation.
In a blink, Usopp vanishes, leaving only a gust of wind. You stare at the empty space where he stood, your heart pounding in your chest. “Usopp…” you whisper, tears streaming down your face as you reach out helplessly.
Kuma’s gaze turns toward you. His right eye begins to glow a menacing red. Your wanted poster appears, and the cold announcement of your bounty echoes around you. “Miss Y/L/N, Y/N,” Kuma says, his voice devoid of emotion. “How could I forget about you?”
You use your blade for support, your legs trembling as you struggle to stand. With a heavy breath, you glare at Kuma, defiance in your voice. “Oh yeah? I’ll show you something to make sure you never forget.”
Kuma prepares to make you disappear as well. Just as you’re about to charge, Sanji rushes in, pushing you to the ground with a rough impact. You slide painfully, blood splattering as you land beside him.
“Sanji…” you manage to say, your voice strained with a mix of anger and anguish. “What are you doing?”
Sanji looks at you with a tortured expression. “Sorry, I couldn’t let… I couldn’t let this cyborg take you away from me just yet.”
“For god’s sake, Sanji, this is no time for chivalry and jokes!” you shout, your frustration mingling with your fear.
Kuma advances, his focus now fully on you both. Sanji grabs your wrist, pulling you in with a desperate urgency. As he presses his lips against yours, the world seems to slow. The kiss is fierce, a mix of desperation and longing. His lips are warm, yet trembling with emotion, and the taste of him is a bittersweet blend of fear and determination. You can feel his heart pounding against your chest, and for a moment, it’s as if time stands still, the chaos around you fading into the background.
“I’ve… been wanting to do that for some time now,” Sanji says breathlessly, pulling away with a pained expression. “I thought this would be the perfect moment.”
“What are you…” you start, your voice faltering as you try to process the intensity of the kiss and the gravity of the situation.
“Luffy! Catch!” Luffy’s voice interrupts, and before you can react, you’re hurled into his arms. The cushioning impact of his rubber powers is a jarring contrast to the pain in your heart. “Sanji, no!” you scream, struggling to break free from Luffy’s embrace. “Let me go, Luffy, please!”
As you hear a sharp pop, Sanji vanishes. The realization hits you like a physical blow. “Sanji… No! Not again…” Your voice is barely a whisper, choked by grief and despair.
Luffy holds you tightly, his own sorrow evident as he watches the space where Sanji once stood, now eerily empty. The harsh reality of Sanji’s disappearance hits you with full force, leaving you in a numb, anguished silence.
And just like that, one by one, you watched in helpless horror as each of your friends vanished. Nami, Franky—each disappearance left a gaping void, a cruel reminder of the powerlessness you felt. Luffy, desperate and determined, threw punch after punch, his attacks futile against Kuma’s defenses. Each strike was repelled with a cold, mechanical precision, leaving Luffy battered and increasingly frantic.
The anguish in Luffy’s eyes was a mirror to your own growing despair. The last to disappear were Robin and Chopper. Chopper, in his formidable Monster Point, roared in defiance, but even his immense strength couldn’t prevent the inevitable. His massive form was swallowed by the same cruel void, leaving only you and Luffy in the midst of the wreckage of your fallen friends.
Luffy, panting and bruised, kept attacking Kuma, his resolve unwavering despite the futility of his efforts. But Kuma, with his eerie calm, seemed to anticipate every move, his form flickering as he teleported behind you.
The exhaustion finally overwhelmed you. Your vision blurred, your legs trembling beneath you. Every muscle in your body screamed for rest, but the weight of the situation pressed down harder. As your eyes began to close, you heard Luffy’s voice—a desperate, broken yell cutting through the haze. “Y/N!!!”
You forced yourself to turn around, reaching out through the darkness. Luffy’s hand stretched towards you, his face etched with pain and determination. You extended your own hand, the last vestige of your strength directed towards him. Tears streamed down your face as you gave him a teary-eyed smile, trying to convey the depth of your love and regret.
But as your hand was about to grasp his, the world around you began to dissolve. The darkness closed in, swallowing your last moments with your friends and the world you knew. Luffy’s anguished cry was the last sound you heard before everything went silent.
You felt yourself being pulled into an abyss, the uncertainty of your fate consuming you. As the darkness enveloped you completely, you were left wondering whether you would emerge alive or lost forever. The cruel void offered no answers, only a chilling silence that pressed down on your heart.

Chapter 1 ☆ Chapter 2
Late night talks between a certain cook and a swordsman.
Or, Sanji feels the need to learn more about Zoro after Thriller Bark.
Or, Zoro needs to learn more about Sanji after Whole Cake Island

Trigger Warnings: mentions of anxiety.
One Piece Masterlist
Sanji has noticed it.
The stares Zoro’s been sending him for the past 2 days haven’t gone unnoticed, not by him nor by the crew. Robin had already asked him, ‘’what is up with Zoro and you? Have you talked to him yet?’’
Sanji just brushed it off. He hadn’t talked to the swordsman, hadn’t really expected to have to talk to him about this .
He knows words have gotten around. Luffy doesn’t see the point of secrets- it’s like he doesn’t really understand secrecy. He’ll babble about anyone’s most shameful moments without understanding the shame it brings, because ‘’why would you be ashamed of that? We’re family, we hold no secrets!’’
Sanji hasn’t been able to look at Luffy or Nami without feeling a pang of guilt that ripples through every cell of his body. They’re the only ones who’ve seen the worst part of him: the moment where, for the first time, Germa truly won. The moment he had to completely let go of his pride and self-control to go against his captain in the worst way possible.
He’d never tell anyone, but every night without fail, he wakes up with tears in his eyes and the feeling of Luffy’s skull cracking under his leg. Their conversation is burned into his mind, and he can’t help but keep pushing that mental wound until it bleeds.
’Low-class pirate.
You’re the one that gets hurt.
Our journey isn’t over yet.
If you don’t come back, I’ll be here starving.’
But the worst of all:
‘Without you, I can’t become the King of the Pirates.’
Anxiety ripples through his body so suddenly, the glass he’s been washing almost slips from his hands. Sanji sighs deeply, dropping the glass and sponge in the hot water. He dries his hands, willfully ignoring how much they shake, and takes a moment to rest his back against the kitchen counter.
He sighs once more, closing his eyes to fully submerge in the painful memories. What’s the deal anyway with engulfing yourself in such unpleasant thoughts? If it hurts so badly, why does it feel so good at the same time?
The remembrance of his brothers laughing at his pain, deriding his captain- it hurts, but he deserves the pain the memories bring.
His hands automatically search for his cigarettes. When he can’t find them, he pushes his head into his hands and glides to the floor.
‘’Failure,’’ he whispers, softly. ‘’Couldn’t even protect Luffy or Nami-swan at Whole Cake.’’ The prickling feeling of tears pushing behind his eyes makes him dizzy, but he doesn’t care. The image of finding Luffy in the rain, the blemished bento-box, Nami’s reaction… It’s all too much.
He makes no sound as tears roll down his cheeks. One hand is clasped against his mouth to muffle any sounds, the other buried in his hair. He doesn’t tug - doesn’t want to hurt himself- but the feeling of knowing he could do it, the control, feels good.
He doesn’t know how long he sits there, silently crying into his hand until there are no more tears left to cry. The memories don’t stop, they play on a loop until he doesn’t feel anything anymore.
The sound of the kitchen door opening makes him jump.
‘’Cook?’’ Zoro’s voice sounds loud through the otherwise silent night. ‘’The lights are on, I know you’re here.’’
Sanji doesn’t move. One hand is still clasped over his mouth, hopefully muffling the sounds of his slightly laboured breathing. If he doesn’t make a sound, Zoro might really think he just forgot to turn off the lights and went to bed.
Sadly, luck doesn’t seem to be on his side. Zoro’s heavy footsteps echo through the room until they are still next to him.
Zoro doesn’t say anything for a few moments. Sanji doesn’t dare to look up, too ashamed to be found in his current position.
‘’You good?’’ Zoro asks after a couple of awkwardly silent seconds.
‘’Great, thank you. You can go now,’’ Sanji makes out, cringing at the high pitch he can’t suppress.
Zoro doesn’t respond. Sanji almost hopes Zoro’s nice enough to leave him alone. Instead, he hears glasses clink and the tap turn on.
‘’Here,’’ Zoro says softly, offering a glass of water in front of Sanji’s face. He can’t see Zoro’s face from his position, only a strong hand offering the glass and the swordsman’s legs in front of him, but he still feels his ears flush.
‘’Thanks…’’ Sanji mutters, accepting the glass. It’s cool against his hands, and the water feels foreign and fresh in his mouth.
‘’You want to stay here or go outside?’’ Zoro asks.
Sanji still doesn’t meet his eyes, focussing his eyes on the glass in his hands. ‘’I’m fine, really. You can go to sleep.’’
Zoro scoffs, his shoes clack against the floor. It’s an endearing tick Sanji likes about him.
‘’You’re not fine, cook. It’s 4 am and you’re on your own crying on the kitchen floor.’’
‘’Just…’’ Sanji sighs, putting the glass on the ground next to him. ‘’Lots to think about.’’
Zoro is quiet. The air in the kitchen has never felt so heavy, the silence is so thick Sanji doubts Zoro would be able to cut it with Wado if he tried.
Suddenly, Zoro drops down next to him. His back thuds against the headboard behind them, and he clumsily tries to take off his swords without accidentally stabbing Sanji with the sheaths.
‘’What do you think you’re doing?’’ Sanji asks, his voice not sounding as fiery as he had hoped. He can’t bring himself to look at the struggling swordsman next to him, opting to stare at the squeaky clean floor on the other side of the room. The day and night have been spent cleaning, trying to take his mind off of anything but laundry and kitchen reorganisation and even cleaning the boys’ bathroom - his body feels heavy and exhausted, but it hasn’t given his racing mind any rest.
Only when Zoro’s swords are neatly placed in front of their feet, with the newest addition, Enma, softly touching Sanji’s booth, does he respond. ‘’I’m worried about you.’’
Sanji closes his eyes out of embarrassment. Too much has happened to deny the fact that Zoro is absolutely justified in being worried about him.
‘’I’m- I get that, but… Nami talked to me, and-’’ Sanji struggles to form an excuse, but Zoro cuts him off before he can finish.
‘’Nami hasn’t talked to you in days,’’ Zoro responds brutally. ‘’You’ve been swooning less than usual too, did you piss her off?’’
Shocked, Sanji turns to face Zoro. Instead of the challenging look he’d expected after such provocative words, the swordsman looks… sad.
‘’I don’t- Don’t say it like that,’’ Sanji says softly.
Zoro shrugs, breaking their gaze to look at the swords in front of him. ‘’Just telling it how it is. Did you piss her off or not?’’
Sanji sighs, dropping his head against the cupboard behind him to stare at the ceiling. ‘’I did.’’
‘’Is it obligatory?’’
‘’What?’’ Sanji asks, confused, checking to see if Zoro’s poking fun at him. ‘’obligatory?’’
‘’Yea?’’ Zoro meets his eyes, shrugging his shoulders and looking incredibly innocent. ‘’You know… Do you deserve it?’’
Sanji laughs softly. ‘’Yes, it is deservedly. But that’s now how you use obligatory.’’
Zoro’s eyebrows scrunch together as he thinks. ‘’It’s not?’’
Sanji can’t suppress the soft laugh that escapes. He hopes it doesn’t make Zoro feel dumb.  He doesn’t mean to laugh at him, he’s just cute sometimes. ‘’Did you mean objectively?’’
There’s no response, but Zoro’s still looking at him, as if waiting for further information, so Sanji keeps talking.
‘’Objectively means factually true, so you’d be asking whether I did something genuinely stupid. Obligatory means mandatory.’’
‘’Oh,’’ Zoro responds. ‘’Yea, I meant that. So you did something genuinely stupid?’’
‘’I did.’’ The smile on Sanji’s face is immediately wiped away at the remembrance of what exactly he did. ‘’Nami promised to forgive me, but I guess she’s having a bit of a hard time,’’ he sighs deeply, ‘’I can’t blame her.’’
Zoro hums softly. ‘’Can we go outside?’’
‘’Hmm?’’ Honestly, Sanji should’ve been used to the out-of-pocket remarks Zoro occasionally makes, but he never really gets used to it. ‘’We’re talking about something I feel really shitty about, can’t you show me a little bit of fucking sympathy every once in a while?’’
Zoro doesn’t respond, just gets up and rummages through the hidden liquor cabinet.
‘’Wait, how the fuck do you know I keep liquor there?’’
Zoro shrugs with his back to the cook, pushing aside crackers and bread to get to the good stuff at the back. ‘’No way you only have that sad little stock of off-brand sake you keep in your ‘liquor cabinet.’ I’m not stupid, you know?’’
‘’I doubt it sometimes,’’ Sanji sighs, focussing his attention back on Enma. He quietly traces the sheath of the sword, appreciating the deep purple. It’s surprising how much power one little blade can hold, but Sanji isn’t fooled - he’s seen the power it wields first hand.
Zoro turns around with multiple bottles of good sake in his arms. His eyes are still on Enma, but he says nothing. ‘’You want a glass or to drink straight from the bottle?’’
‘’We’re drinking?’’ Sanji asks, still not looking at the swordsman. ‘’I’m not in a very festive mood.’’
‘’You don’t have to be,’’ Zoro responds, already picking up a glass for the mannered cook. ‘’We’re drinking, you’re smoking, and you’re telling me what happened. If I hear any contradiction, I’m waking up Chopper and telling him you’ve not been sleeping. Again.’’
‘’Contradiction isn’t the most fitting word. I’d recommend bullshit instead.’’
Zoro laughs, ‘’I thought you’d appreciate some manners, but fine. If you tell me any bullshit, I’ll wake up Chopper. I don’t know the whole story, but I’ve heard things, and I’ll know if you lie to me.’’
Sanji nods, standing up as he speaks, ‘’you can go outside, let me find my cigarettes and I’ll follow you.’’
‘’Hmm.’’ Zoro stands still in front of the kitchen door, arms full of alcohol. ‘’My swords…’’
The cook follows Zoro’s gaze towards the three swords on the kitchen floor. ‘’I’ll bring them, too.’’
It seems to bring Zoro enough peace of mind to go outside, clumsily opening and closing the door without dropping anything.
Sanji takes a moment for a quick breath. Holding the countertop with both hands, he sighs deeply, mentally counting to 10 to steady himself for the upcoming night. It’s not that he doesn’t trust Zoro- the opposite, actually- Zoro is the most loyal, trustworthy member of their group, not taking their captain into account. He’s the only one Sanji fully trusts in a fight, someone he knows he doesn’t have to protect, but instead can count on (even though he trusts their captain, obviously, in a fight he can get a bit carried away and distracted, but Zoro would never waver focus for even a second) .
At 10, Sanji opens his eyes. The kitchen is still spotless, safe for the swords thrown around, and he can’t help but feel slightly proud of his work. He quickly gets to work looking for his cigarettes, the only item apparently misplaced during the stressful day.
After a few minutes, Zoro barges into the room again with a full packet of cigarettes. ‘’Here,’’ he says, throwing the packet to Sanji. ‘’I got them from your nightstand. I’ll help you find your old package in the morning, okay?’’
Sanji nods, but before he can catch the package, Zoro has already turned around and closed the door. ‘’Rude…’’ Sanji whispers to himself, picking up the 3 swords to follow the swordsman outside.
Even though his eyes aren’t used to the dark yet, it’s easy to guess where Zoro planted himself. Sanji immediately walks over to his spot against the railing where Zoro likes to nap in the sun. During the night, the water droplets from the night air make the grass feel cold. A great contrast compared to the hot summer days they’ve been experiencing during the days.
Zoro holds out a hand to collect the swords Sanji’s holding. He immediately gives them over in favour of opening his new pack of cigarettes before dropping next to the swordsman, who already has his lips around a half-empty bottle of sake.
It takes a few tries to light the cigarette, but once Sanji feels the comforting rush of nicotine, he sighs deeply. Zoro wordlessly hands him a newly opened bottle of sake and a glass.
They sit next to each other, silently appreciating the soft swaying of the ship, the sound of waves crashing against the hull, the deep taste of sake, the cold grass under their hands and the sight of a million twinkling stars in the sky.
Once Sanji’s cigarette is smoked into the filter, and the only slight source of light it offered burns out, Zoro speaks. ‘’Tell me.’’
‘’What do you want to hear?’’
Zoro shrugs, putting the first empty sake bottle of the night on the ground. ‘’Everything.
Sanji can’t suppress the deep sigh he lets out. He repositions himself so he’s laying down, head on the grass, to stare at the stars lighting up the sky while he opens up his heart.
‘’I got wed to a daughter of Big Mom.’’
‘’Hmm,’’ Zoro hums, indicating he’s listening.
‘’She was beautiful, sweet, and perfect. At least, at first.’’ Another sigh. ‘’She was a baker, could you believe that? It’s like we were made for each other.’’
‘’So what happened?’’ Zoro asks, making it sound like it’s an easy story to tell. ‘’I mean, I know… I know you love us and all… But you also love women.’’
A soft chuckle escapes Sanji’s mouth. ‘’I wouldn’t give the crew up for a mere woman, you idiot. I had no choice, my father decided. In the end, she wasn’t who she said she was, anyway.’’ Tears prick in his eyes at the thought of her actions, but he swallows the lump in his throat. ‘’She wanted to kill me and my family.’’
‘’Nami said your family isn’t good.’’
‘’’Not good’ is an understatement, I’d say.’’ Sanji moves his head up in order to see Zoro’s reaction at his next words. ‘’Please, don’t use this against me, but… They abused me. I mean, I wouldn’t call myself abused, but I’d call their actions abuse.’’
Zoro doesn’t meet his eyes, instead looking out over the empty deck of the Sunny. ‘’If they abused you, you’re abused, cook.’’
Sanji hates the matter-of-fact way Zoro speaks sometimes. He makes it all sound so easy, when there’s so much more to some things, unspoken and hidden under the surface. ‘’I guess. I don’t know. I don’t really like to think about it.’’
‘’Have you talked to anyone about it?’’ Zoro asks, a new bottle accompanying his question.
‘’Luffy, Nami, Brook and Chopper met my family, but we haven’t really talked about what happened, no.’’
‘’I don’t mean what happened at Whole Cake, I meant the abuse.’’
‘’Oh…’’ Sanji swallows loudly. The grass feels moist against his fingers, he can’t help but glide through the soft strands. ‘’No.’’
Zoro picks up the pack of cigarettes in between them. He quietly opens it and offers one before Sanji’s lips. He closes his lips around the filter, thankful for the slight distraction smoking offers.
‘’You don’t have to, but I think you’d feel better talking about it,’’ Zoro mutters softly. ‘’And… I’d never hold something like that against you, Sanji, I promise.’’
Sanji can’t help but close his eyes at the mention of his name. He inhales deeply, mentally preparing himself for what he’s about to do.
‘’I know, I’m not sure why I said that.’’ The nicotine burns when he inhales, but the swig of sake right after cools the heat down. ‘’My father faked my own death. He has always hated me, but it got worse after my mother died. I must have been around 7 when he locked me in a dungeon in our castle, pretending I had died.’’
Zoro’s breath catches in his throat at Sanji’s revelation.
‘’My three brothers hated me, too. All I really remember from my childhood is the experiments my father forced me under, and the loneliness of the dungeon. I preferred the loneliness to the visits my brothers gave me, though.’’
‘’And your sister?’’ Zoro breaks his silence after a moment.
‘’Reiju was different,’’ Sanji responds softly, completely forgetting the walls he’s built around himself for the past 13 years. ‘’She would treat my wounds and visit me in the dungeon. She’d gift me flowers or books from the library to pass the time, but she could never speak up, or she’d suffer the same fate.’’
The stars above them twinkle beautifully, completely oblivious to the stories going on beneath them.
Quickly, the second cigarette is gone, too. Sanji pushes the smouldering end against the railing, promising himself to throw it away before he goes to sleep.
‘’It doesn’t really matter anymore. It happened, and I can’t change the past. Reiju helped me get away. I found Zeff thanks to her.’’
A hand on his hair makes Sanji jump, but Zoro’s shushing sounds immediately calm him down. ‘’Come here, it’s softer for your head.’’
Before Sanji can truly realise the situation, his head is resting on Zoro’s thighs, who’s still sitting upright against the railing. It feels softer, more intimate, and surprisingly, he notices he doesn’t mind.
‘’So your brothers and father are assholes, and your sister is useless. And your fianceé was a bitch?’’
Sanji lightly slaps the swordsman's leg. ‘’Don’t call her useless, you imbecile. She did what she needed to survive, which was keep quiet. I did what I had to do to survive, which was accept whatever was thrown at me.’’  Sanji grasps a couple of grass strands in his hand. It’s so quiet, even the sound of the grass breaking is deafening. ‘’My fianceé, Pudding, didn’t have it very well, either. She didn’t seem happy, and her mother sounded as horrible as Judge. I feel for her, even if I shouldn’t.’’
‘’Did you like her?’’ Zoro asks.
Sanji has to think about it for a moment. ‘’At first, I really did. She saw how my brothers treated me, she worried about me, we had the same interests… But once I realised she was faking it, I couldn’t get myself to look her in the eyes again… She deserved better than me, anyway.’’
‘’The fuck does that mean?’’
Sanji shrugs his shoulders, which is slightly hard while laying on Zoro’s legs. ‘’She was beautiful, well-mannered, sweet, rich… I’m just a pirate. I’ve got nothing to my name but our crew and my recipes.’’
Zoro’s hand finds Sanji’s chin, making him meet Zoro’s eyes. ‘’You’re beautiful, too.’’
A blush spreads over Sanji’s cheeks, all the way to the tip of his ears. ‘’I’m not. My eyebrows are the symbol of the Vinsmoke family. I’m not tall enough, my eyes are literally two different colours, my hands are full of scars and too rough to softly touch a lady, I’m way too pale to-’’
‘’Shut it,’’ Zoro responds, releasing Sanji’s face. He turns his head to the sky again, focussing on the shining specs of silver through the dark night. ‘’So you pissed Nami off?’’
Sanji groans loudly, immediately slapping his hand against his face out of embarrassment. ‘’Ugh, don’t fucking remind me.’’
Neither of them mention the hand that makes its way into the cook’s hair, gently petting a few strands behind his ear.
‘’I had to hurt Luffy,’’ Sanji sighs, both from relief of finally voicing his biggest regret and the feeling of the hand caressing his hair.
The short silence that falls over them makes Sanji cringe. What if Zoro sees the darkest parts of himself, and decides that Sanji’s right: he’s useless. Would the crew be better off with a new cook? He should’ve died at Whole Cake. You should’ve died at Whole Cake .
‘’Fuck,’’ Sanji whispers angrily, the third cigarette he was holding in his hand suddenly crushed.
‘’Calm down,’’ Zoro says softly, the hand in Sanji’s hair becoming more forceful. ‘’It’s just me. Don’t let yourself get carried away in your own head, okay?’’
Sanji doesn’t respond. The cigarette gets thrown on the ground. With shaking hands, he picks up a fourth cigarette from the package, almost dropping it altogether, before plopping it into his mouth with a shaky sigh. Blindly, the cook searches for his golden lighter. He lets out a frustrated groan when he can’t find it.
‘’C’mere,’’ Zoro says softly. Suddenly, the lighter flicks on right before Sanji’s eyes. He looks up, eyes meeting Zoro’s, before slowly moving forward to light his cigarette in the glowing heat.
The hand in the blond’s hair doesn’t waver, he can’t help but lean into the touch and sigh relieved. It’s embarrassing how touch-starved the cook has become, but really, when was the last time he touched anyone? Before Whole Cake, Chopper or Luffy would occasionally find his bunk during the nighttime, but all signs of late-night cuddles and hugs have been obliterated since the Whole Cake fiasco.
‘’Are you okay?’’ Zoro asks, once the cigarette is about halfway done.
Embarrassed, Sanji squirms his head against Zoro’s thighs. ‘’Don’t make fun of me.’’
The look Zoro sends him is one of genuine confusion, ‘’I’m not trying to, I promise.’’
The swordsman quickly downs a full bottle of sake before resuming his talk. ‘’I’m sorry, I’m not that good with words or feelings or anything. I’m just…’’ He sighs deeply, trying to find the correct words. ‘’I care about you. And it hurts to see you’ve been hurting over the past couple of days. But I’m not good with words, so I don’t know how to talk about your problems.’’
A warm feeling blooms in Sanji’s chest.
‘’It’s okay…’’ He mutters. ‘’I’m embarrassed about what happened with Luffy.’’
Zoro hums thoughtfully. ‘’I won’t judge you, or talk to you ever again about this if you don’t want to, but you can’t bottle stuff up like you’ve been doing, okay? I’m pretty sure you haven’t eaten anything in 3 days.’’
‘’I know!’’ Sanji whines pathetically, throwing away yet another burned out cigarette. ‘’I feel so guilty about everything! I don’t know how to talk to Luffy or Nami about it.’’
‘’Talk to me, then. We’ll figure it out.’’
The hand in his hair stills for a moment, as if unsure whether this crosses a boundary.
It’s quiet for a few moments, before Sanji manages to speak up. ‘’I… I fought him.’’
‘’Who, Luffy?’’
Sanji nods shamefully. ‘’I didn’t want to, but you know how Luffy is. I tried to tell him I couldn’t come back with him, but he refused. My father and brothers would’ve killed him in an instant if I hadn’t fought him… But he didn’t fight back.’’
‘’He didn’t?’’ Zoro asks. Subconsciously, he puts his second hand near Sanji’s cheek, softly touching the rough skin. Sanji leans into the touch thankfully.
‘’No. He… He just accepted everything. I didn’t have a choice, I promise, but… I hate myself for it. Nami saw every weak moment of it.’’ He leans closer into Zoro’s touch, closing his eyes to not having to see the swordsman’s reaction to his words. ‘’I can’t believe I hurt our captain like that. I shouldn’t be here anymore after that.’’
The hand on his cheek roughly grabs his chin. Sanji opens his eyes, surprised at the sudden intensity of the situation.
‘’Don’t say that,’’ Zoro says fiercely. ‘’You deserve to be here. Luffy wouldn’t have brought you back if what you did wasn’t justified.’’
Tears prick in Sanji’s eyes. He’s been beating himself up for so long, hating himself for his weak actions, but here’s Zoro: fully trusting that he did the right thing.
‘’I was so scared,’’ Sanji whispers, unable to tear his eyes away from Zoro’s gaze. ‘’I was so scared they’d find you and hurt you. I didn’t care if I died, I had fully accepted my death, but knowing they could hurt the crew was torture.’’
Zoro’s stare is intense, but his words are spoken softly and lovingly. ‘’You’re not dying on my watch, or Luffy’s, or anyone else on this crew, understand? You’re the heart of this crew, and if Luffy hadn’t been able to bring you back from Whole Cake, I would’ve gone there myself.’’
Sobs finally break through the strong facade Sanji had built. An intense feeling of relief washes over him as he finally lets his emotions run freely, meanwhile Zoro’s silent support doesn’t stop until all his tears are dried.
‘’Listen, okay?’’ Zoro redirects Sanji’s face to his after his sobs have finally died down. Both hands now hold his face, thumbs caressing the wet cheeks. They’re sitting next to each other under a million stars, backs against the railing of the ship they call home.
‘’You didn’t do anything wrong. You did what you had to do, and if Nami needs some more time to accept that, let her, okay?’’ Zoro says softly. ‘’No one understands what you went through but you. Don’t get hung up on other people’s opinions.’’
A lost sob finds its way through Sanji. ‘’T-Thank you,’’ he whispers, arms thrown around the swordsman’s broad shoulders.
He hugs back immediately, glad to finally see some emotion on Sanji’s face after days of emptiness.
‘’Thank you for telling me all of this,’’ he whispers into blond locks.
The cook just nods, too tired to verbally answer.
‘’And…’’ The slick smile on the swordsman’s face is hidden by Sanji’s hair. ‘’If you ever want to talk about anything… I can come to the kitchen every night.’’
Sanji pulls back from the hug, slapping the now-laughing Zoro across the chest. ‘’You’re the absolute fucking worst, you Marimo!’’
Zoro’s laugh turns out to be so infectious, they both end up laughing until the stars slowly fade out. Their conversation doesn’t stop until Robin walks up onto the deck, the low morning sun already shining, and Sanji realises he’s late starting breakfast.

One Piece Modern Gym AU wips (Part2)
This has me in a chokehold right now😂
Zoro came back to Nami’s Gym every second day to work out with the girls, and Sanji lost his shit over why he was allowed there! Nami turned every other man down who wanted to work out at her Gym, so why was Zoro so welcomed? She practically begged him to come over and work out with them.
Also, why was every girl in the Gym gushing over that brute? Hugging him, kissing his cheeks, making fun with him, leaning on his back - or over his back when he was sitting and hugging him from behind.
He was allowed to do things that the girls would kick other men’s heads in if he tried it. So naturally, Sanji got curious and asked around why Zoro was allowed to come over and do all that. But he got the same answer every time: “Ask him if you want to know!”
One time, he saw Zoro throwing Vivi (Nami’s girlfriend) and Koala over his shoulders and marching into the changing room with them, only to come out laughing a minute later with their shirts thrown at him. Later Sanji heard him scolding them for working out too long and too much.
“You have to balance workout and resting phases! You can't just work out all day and only rest for the night! Also, go and eat! That stupid influencer diet shit won’t do you any good! Ask that idiot curly at the bar. I hear he knows a thing or two about food and healthy diets. Give it a shot!”
“You can't order us around, Zoro! Just mind your own business!” Vivi grumbled and crossed her arms in front of her chest.
A growl broke out of Zoro’s throat and made the girls look up. He grabbed both of their chins to make them look at him.
“You both keep that unhealthy behavior up and I make it my personal challenge to break you out of it, even if I have to tell Nami about it and get you put on a break of using the Gym,” he said with a stern expression on his face. “And don't even think about going to a different one. I have contacts in every gym in town. You won't be there long. Love your body more!”
Then he rambled on that he’d carry them into the changing room again and steal their workout clothes if they’d keep that behavior up.
Sanji got angry (at the way he talked to the girls not actually about what he said) and yelled at him, that he was a brute and not treating the girls right. Zoro looked him up and down and just laughed.
“Go, tell Nami about it. Maybe she’ll throw me out. Would be in your favor, right?”
“Maybe I’m going to do that!” Sanji barked back.
Zoro leaned on the counter and put his face in his hand, smirking up at Sanji - showing his teeth like an animal ready to attack. His scarred eye added to the dangerous atmosphere he was radiating at that moment. Sanji stood his ground, even if his body screamed to at least take a step back from that man.
Zoro clicked his tongue, and his smirk got a little less threatening.
“Good luck, Curly. Tell me what she said,” and off he was.
Sanji huffed as he brushed his hand through his hair. What was going through that man’s stupid head? And why was he shaking? Why were his cheeks red again?!

One day... one day I will write a fic about how Zoro and Sanji fucked during/after the party in Cocoyashi, which ended with Sanji panicking and running away in the morning, leaving Zoro beyond confused which in turn lead to all their fighting and bickering
Zoro tried to talk to Sanji about it the very same day, and then again and again, but Sanji always runs away. Zoro's pissed about it, which only escalates their fighting.
Nami is the only one who knows what happened--Zoro told her during one of their drinking-buddies sessions and she was very supportive... even while calling them both idiots several times over. But she's always there for Zoro when he needs to vent or just have someone sitting next to him.
(Luffy knows something happened between them. He doesn't know exactly what but he does have a pretty decent guess. But he never askd for exact details because it's not his business and he also doesn't really care what exactly happened anyway. But he knows and he knows it's been bothering both Zoro and Sanji every single day since and that makes him unhappy but again, not his business.
"I don't know how you always just know these things," Law tells him one time after Luffy had explained to him what the weird tension between them was. "But I guess it very you. Also very you that you just let them be a couple of awkward twelve year olds without doing anything about it as their captain."
Luffy only laughs.
Law kisses him.
They don't talk about either Sanji or Zoro the rest of the night.)
It gets even more complicated after Thriller Bark but they still never talk about it and nothing really changes... although it feels like now, they're fighting just for the sake of fighting. There is something heavy and unspoken undeaneath it all, but neither of them wants to poke into it. It's too fragile, too scary and too painful to even think about.
Then Sabaody happens and they don't see each other for two years... and when they do... they find nothing really changed. It's awkward, Sanji still refuses to talk about anything that is not insults with Zoro and Zoro... Zoro had thought the two years would have helped to forget about that one night but no. He wishes they did.
And then...
Then Zou happens.
And now, now Zoro isn't sure what he regrets more.
Ever catching these feelings at all... or letting Sanji run away from him?

One Backstory to Rule them All
Anyone else think about how Sanji's backstory parallels every other Strawhat's backstory?
1. Luffy - Luffy is the most obvious, as they quite literally flashback to Shanks losing his arm right after Sanji explains how Zeff sacrificed his leg for Sanji. It's interesting the parallel here - because Shanks sacrifice is what took Luffy a step further in his dreams and made him determined to be the captain of his own pirate crew rather than simply joining Shank's crew, which is what he wanted to do previously. Now, for Sanji, Zeff's sacrifice had the opposite effect and Sanji chained himself to Zeff and what remained of Zeff's dreams rather than being pushed forward by it.
2. Zoro - I find it interesting that all of the Monster Trio parallel each other in their backstories in that all of them constantly lost when they were kids. Zoro lost 2001 times to Kuina, Luffy lost 50 fights to Ace and 50 to Sabo every day, and Sanji was constantly being beaten by his siblings. Each were called weak by those beating them, and each grew past that. What's also interesting to me is that there's the specific method of losing in Sanji's losing montage that's a direct callback to Zoro's backstory, as Oda includes multiple scenes of Sanji being beat at fights with wooden swords.
Tumblr media
The difference being that Kuina is a decent human being and doesn't abuse Zoro. She calls him weak, but ultimately respects him as a rival and Zoro respects her in turn. Luffy also eventually earns that respect, though Sanji never does which leads to a noticeable difference in how Zoro and Sanji see themselves and their places on the crew - Thriller Bark I think being a perfect example of how Sanji believes that he's replaceable in a way that Zoro doesn't.
3. Nami - Nami and Sanji were both kids that found themselves in abusive situations, though at different ages. For both of them, their abuse centered around a man who's belief in their own superiority led them to a sense of entitlement to what was theirs. Arlong believed in his own biological superiority and Judge believed in the superiority of the Vinsmoke name, as well as genetic superiority which led him to experiment on his own children. Arlong values the lives of fishmen, the lives of the rest of his crew over the lives of Nami and the rest of her village. Judge values the lives of his other children over Sanji, seeing him as a failure for the way he was born (although it's also mentioned he blames Sanji for what happened with Sora). I think another very interesting parallel in their stories is the role of their respective older sisters. Nojiko and Reiju both privately support their younger sibling but both cannot stand up to the abusive figure in their lives. Nojiko gets tattoos to match Nami's to help her feel less alone, she listens to Nami, and does her best to try and support her through the 8 years of hell (8 years being another parallel to other members of the crew including Sanji). Reiju for her part laughs along with her brothers, but never lays a hand against Sanji and does her best to patch him up after everyone is gone. Their actions are indirect and discreet, save for the final fights, and that muted care is a very interesting part of each of their characters and it's why, I think neither of them felt it was their place to accompany their siblings on their journey. When Nami leaves, Nojiko lets her go, like she's always let her go. And Reiju pushes Sanji to leave, just as she pushed before. That regret of not being able to help more will stick with them forever.
4. Usopp - Usopp's backstory is all of 5 seconds long and still manages to parallel Sanji's somehow??? If I had a nickel for each strawhat who's mom was sick and died from illness when they were young, I'd have 2 nickels-
5. Chopper - HOO boy the parallel of your biological family hating you for the way that you were born and neglecting/abusing you for it hits right on Chopper's blue nose. Now, it's not all bad for either of them, though - considering they each had someone that accepted them for who they were. Chopper had Hiraluk and Sanji had Sora. Hiraluk inspired Chopper to be a doctor, emphasizing he had the most important qualification - a big heart. Sora meanwhile cried about how kind Sanji was to Reiju and her nurse, when he told her to "get better soon", calling him the "sweetest boy in the world". That kindness - that caring nature, is something that Hiraluk and Sora would do anything to protect and it's so evident that these two cared deeply for their kids. It's why Hiraluk ate that poisoned mushroom and encouraged Chopper to become a doctor and Sora ate the ruined food despite her fragile constitution and asked Sanji to cook for her again! This is love, baby!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These two kids were willing to risk so much to bring nourishment and care to the ones they loved, BOTH standing up to their biological families - Chopper fighting through his old herd of reindeer to get the mushroom, and Sanji sneaking out risking his father's wrath and braving the storm and wild dogs to deliver the food. Hiraluk and Sora are Chopper's and Sanji's source of encouragement which kick start each of their passions. And both of them tragically die which is honestly just heartbreaking. But all hope isn't lost, and both Chopper and Sanji find a new mentor, ones who are strict - but do care a lot for each of them, and help them develop the discipline they need to learn their respective crafts. Kurehara and Zeff are interesting parallels, both tough older mentors who are sharp of tongue and strict with their new apprentices. They can be this way without discouraging Chopper and Sanji, because the passion has already been ignited and so it's easy to see how they're good fits for helping these two live up to their full potential.
6. Robin - the big parallel with these two boils down to these two scenes and I sob about both of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Saul and Reiju, telling them to set out to sea, placing faith in the vastness of the world, knowing that they've done everything they can for now and planting that seed of hope that someday Robin and Sanji will meet people that can give them what they deserve is just such a touching moment. While this parallel is interesting, what's also interesting is the ways in which these two characters differ. The danger that Robin runs from is something that chases her, whereas the danger that Sanji runs from is his family and once he's made it onto the boat he's free. Robin thought she would never be safe, Sanji thought he was safe up until the wedding fiasco. And precisely the thing that hurts Sanji - the fact that his family wanted him gone - is so different from what's hurting Robin - the fact that she'll never be left alone by the government. Robin is wanted for the skills she and only she has, her story is (wo)man vs world, her bounty set at 79,000,000 which is the literal value on her head. Sanji is unwanted for the skills he, and he alone (in his family) lacks. There's no bounty, no one goes after him. His story is man vs self and undoing the damage that was done to his psyche as a child. It's so fascinating to me the way that both of these characters are saved by the crew in similar but such different ways, the way that each of them wanted to die, but for different reasons. Robin wanted to sacrifice herself because she's been betrayed and hurt by the world so many times that she couldn't trust in the strawhats' love. She loved them too much to risk being hurt like that again. Sanji wanted to sacrifice himself because he'd rather die than inconvenience the crew. Rather than not believing in their love, he doesn't believe he's worth that love, preferring to solve his problems on his own. And I think that it's so fitting the way that both of their stories intersect in Wano, with Robin being able to protect Sanji and Sanji finally believing in his own worth enough to ask for help. They're such different characters, with Sanji wearing his heart on his sleeves and Robin holding her's close to her chest and such interesting mirrors of each other.
7. Franky - they're cyborgs, what else can I say? The difference here is clear - Sanji's body was modified without his consent, whereas Franky modified himself. They're also both unwanted children, with Franky's parents abandoning him on Water 7 whereas Sanji's father was happy when Sanji left.
8. Brook - the parallel here is in the loneliness that both of them experienced, and really Sanji just got a taste of what Brook went through. Sanji and Brook were both parts of different crews before they were on the strawhats, albeit Sanji as a child and for a very short time, whereas Brook was with the Rumbar pirates for a longer time as an adult journeying very similarly to how the strawhats are now. Both were the sole survivors of their respective crews after being attacked, and though Sanji had Zeff on the rock, neither of them communicated with each other for the first 70 days after their initial agreement. Sanji felt a taste of the 50 years that Brook had to go through, with no food or water or way to escape off his abandoned pirate ship.
9. Jimbei - honestly I don't really have a good comparison for these two, other than they're both people who when confronted with the cruelty of others chose irrational kindness. Jimbe eventually learned how to live with and respect humans, and Sanji wouldn't let his family die, even after everything they put him through. They're both people who derived their codes of honor from others - Jimbei from Fisher Tiger and Queen Otohime and Sanji from Zeff. Idk maybe there's more there, but i don't really have too much to say about these two
Anyways, idk i just think they're neat 👉👈 and the way that Oda threw in parallels to all the other character's when completing Sanji's backstroy is so fascinating to me

I think my favorite thing about pre-timeskip Sanuso is that they are 17/19 years old. They are. So young. Teenagers. They know nothing about love and. And they are so stupid. Don't get me wrong, they still are. But they were even MORE stupid, if that's even possible.
And I love saying they started crushing on each other around Skypiea but-- Just imagine these two idiots already giggling and kicking their feet right after. I dunno. Arlong Park. Extremely early. They literally just met. And you have this casanova-wannabe having the realization™ about maybe perhaps kind of liking boys. And the other idiot who has a type™ (rich, classy, kind blondes) and won't stop asking himself why because Sanji is annoying af. He genuinely doesn't understand why he likes Sanji. Seriously. He hates it. And Sanji's sexuality crisis lasts between like, zero seconds and absolutely nothing because he sees Usopp smiling at him and his mind goes "prettyprettyprettyprettyboy" and there's no use trying to fight his demons (bisexuality).
The funniest thing about this is that they won't stop arguing like. From the moment they see each other. Usopp understands why he likes Sanji, okay? He is a pretty boy. He is also kind when he isn't being a complete jerk. He is kind of cute when he talks about the All Blue. He helps people whenever they need to. But then Sanji says something stupid and Usopp has the "fuck he is so annoying I wanna make out with him I mean---" crisis like, three times a day. While Sanji, since he has stopped fighting his demons, is a mix between "I will get over this crush fr fr he is just a guy" and "haha maybe if I save him he will give me a kiss on the cheek haha that'd be nice hahahahahahaa *gives in to gay thoughts for an hour until he sets the kitchen on fire*"
Sanji gets Usopp's goggles back in Alabasta because he is so down bad he just wants Usopp to thank him. Usopp is burning with jealousy in Whisky Peak when all those girls flirt with Sanji. They are both like "teehee it's cold out here we should probably sleep together just for warmth right hahaha". They spend all of Alabasta being annoying and everybody hates it. Vivi thinks they are dating. Sanji explains Usopp the 'Mr.Prince' trick and puts his glasses on only because Usopp thinks it's soooo cool. And Usopp thinks it is soooo fucking stupid but he wants to hype him up because, again, he is seventeen and he wants the pretty (and very stupid) blondie to kiss him.
When they get to Skypiea it is. The fucking worst. That is peak crushing on each other. It is not even realizing they are crushing, it is extreme "if we aren't next to each other constantly I think I will die" type of thing but "we can't tell each other how we feel bc what if it's not mutual". So they sleep next to each other. They hold hands. They pretend like they don't like it. They are dying from embarrassment. Sanji tells Usopp he doesn't care if he dies because he is having an "I need to look straight" moment and Usopp is having a "fuck why did I fall for a straight guy" moment. Then Sanji saves them, because he is like that but also because he is. Head over heels. Usopp takes care of his wounds right after and they are both so. So nervous.
Like-- Sanuso but they are crushing early in the story and they are both SHAKING every time they talk to each other. Sanji tries to act sooo cool and Usopp is like "haha yeah you're sooo cool" while regretting every decision he has ever made because why the hell does he want to fuck a blond loser.
By the time they get to Water 7 everything is more like. Genuine and romantic and they are basically in love with each other at this point. So I don't need to explain anything but. But. But Usopp in Thriller Bark thinking he is so cool with his little vampire hunter outfit and Sanji being down bad for him because he is, indeed, very cool. But Usopp is also having his teenage Conan Gray 'Heather' moment because Sanji won't stop saving Nami and Usopp just really really really wants Sanji to save him instead but okay fucking blond guy I hate him I hate him I hate him---
They both have their moments of screaming btw. Sanji finds moments alone to go to the kitchen and just. Scream inside of pots. Scream inside of glasses. Scream inside of cabinets. He likes Usopp so much it's physically unbearable and Usopp won't stop spending time with mosshead so of course he is angry. And Usopp goes to the boys' quarters to scream in pillows and the lockers and he is so stressed.
Sanji tells Usopp to taste his food before anybody else (please I am making this for you this food is for you love me love me love me love me) and Usopp constantly tells Sanji his stories because nobody else listens to him (do you think I'm cool please think I'm cool please please). Sanji has so many nosebleeds every day but they are not exaggerated they are. They are just there. He will constantly have nosebleeds and he lies and says it's just a weird condition because saying "please let your hair down more I am in love with you" is weird. And Usopp constantly bumps into walls and shit like that when he is trying to make Sanji look at him.
Their crushes on each other take like, at least, 80% of their time. It is insane and ridiculous and awkward and they are blushing 24/7 and kicking their feet and screaming and they like like each other. They don't say it like normal people. They like like each other. Because they're. Stupid. And young. And they make so many mistakes but they are growing up together. And I think that's beautiful and I adore them <33
WAIT WAIT WAIT EDIT: Not to mention the first time have sex. Not going into details bc. That's for another post I want to make. But they definitely had sex like. Before Sabaody. And it was the weirdest most disgusting teenage thing ever and I adore them. They were SO anxious. And it is. So cute. And I love themIlovethemwefnlwkefnln (<- normal person)

Finished Whole Cake Island. Spoliers. In no particular order.
Thoughts:
Since Fish Man Island, the damn crew can't stay together for more than two minutes. It feels a bit just Oda's writing style. But it also feels like a handicap for the crew. Cause if they're all together, they'd be too strong or something. Missing the full crew antics though.
Luffy messing up the cooking immediately into the journey reminds me back to him yelling at Arlong of all the things he can't do and why his crew is important.
Are the straw hats actually that dumb they fell for Pudding's act? Like. Come on guys. You're in enemy territory, trust no one.
Just, poor Sanji. This sweet boy had such good intentions with leaving the crew to settle this shit. And then it's one thing after the next with getting backed into a corner.
He genuinely could have made a life with Pudding. And been happy. Them baking shit together every day. And then she had to be a bitch. Him crying in the rain got me crying.
His sister could have told him way sooner the bracelets were fake though. Like come on. Why switch them if you're not gonna tell him.
Fuck Germa. That shit coded and just.... fuck them.
Love when Nami's evil pirate queen side comes out. Using the vivre card to control the forest. Distracting, using, and eventually straight up stealing Zeus. Like anyone who shits on her can sit the fuck down. She's great.
Brook is underrated. Yes his power is clutch against Big Mom's soul soldiers and such. But him fighting and getting not just the road ponegliff but all three that they had. Beautiful.
Hilarious using random people to continually call out that's not how bodies work, when they do something stupid to heal or just isn't biology.
The wedding is utter beautiful chaos and I loved every moment of it.
Big Moms backstory. She ate people?! The people she loved?! Did not see that one coming. Very surprised. ALSO does that mean anyone could eat someone to gain their fruit? Or did she like eat her whole and that's the only way? Or cause it's the soul fruit it could be passed that way? Questions.
I love when the crew gets to use their skills. Sanji knowing how to recreate the cake and making one that is deadly delicious is fun. I wish they did this more. Like Chopper used his medical knowledge in the Thriller Bark fight and then kinda never again. Do it more!
Sanji making it his business to get Luffy back to the sunny was sweet. His extra retribution for what he put Luffy through.
Sanji protecting Luffy's head while trying to get back to sunny is so freaking precious. I squealed during those panels.
Sad that Pudding felt she couldn't let Sanji remember their kiss. Like why girl?
Kinda really like Bege after all that. His fruit is a little silly but fun. Love a man who loves his wife. One piece could use more romance damn it.
Chiffon's Dad sacrifice had me crying. Dads loving their daughters will hit me in the feels every time.
Fuck Judge. Sanji saves you all, tells you to get lost, you agree, to then show up and yell at him for being a failure. Yes I get it that he wanted to hear from Luffy what made him special, see it through his eyes, but still. Luffy's reaction is hilarious and Jimbei laughing at his reaction is even better.
Mixed feelings with Jimbei. Very strong, yes. Helmsman role is cool, like him appreciating the strength of Sunny. But he better not start doing Usopp shit of trying to play Captain.
Jimbei's crew never leaving and helping them the whole time was sweet. Aladdin and Praline are hot. Smash.
I like Katakuri. He started out a little annoying with the, I can see the future don't even try, attitude. But damn, that fight with Luffy. His respecting him by the end. I like his little backstory with Brulee. I don't think his mouth is that bad either. I'd smash.
Thinking about the length of the battles. Oda definitely did well conveying it but these are hours long. Cool way to show their strength.
Carrot's sulong is cool. That was a good payoff for the minks and the tease of the full moon.
Is Pedro actually dead? He seems actually dead. But we did this in Alabasta. Oda doesn't like actually killing people and it makes sacrifice plays like that less impactful. Sitting here thinking nah he'll show back up in X chapters from now like Oda always does. Ugh Oda.
We learn that Luffy can feel the emotions in things. Which, one, makes so much sense for future mister pirate king, luck of the universe. But, two, every time his crew or friends that left or fought him, he could feel their emotions. Why he has known they were lying and what they were really feeling. Chefs kiss on that one Oda.
This post is longer than I was planning......I miss Zoro, Law, and Robin.
Excited to get into Wano. Almost caught up!

i love how people make sanuso and you showing me this trio.. idk my brain is expanding
I'm really sad that I got into Sanji/Nami/Usopp so late into my serious OP fan days because it means I only wrote one fic for it and honestly I should have been out here pushing my rare trio from the beginning because IT'S SO GOOD
like I'm already drawn to any combo of pairings between the original East Blue Crew to begin with because like... I love all the characters a lot (especially Robin) but there's something about the OG five, like they're the ones who faced Arlong together, they're the ones who entered the Grand Line together, like there's something just special about that, an experience you can't take away.
but then combining those three in particular...
first of all I feel like they fit for me because they are like the most... Normal People (tm) of the Straw Hats (this is a very relative designation lol). and I feel like most people would agree with that for Nami and Usopp but Sanji is a harder sell, because he's part of the monster trio, and he has an absolutely insane backstory, BUT 1) Sanji has the most Normal Job, he's done actual work under a boss, he's been a waiter, 2) Sanji's True Insane Backstory came so late in the game it can't erase the decade+ of him being just the guy who wears Doskoi Panda aprons and washes dishes and is just Real Good At Kicking for some reason. and like in general Sanji's reactions to things happening usually line up more with Nami and Usopp's in terms of like, reacting like a normal person to the insane shit that is happening all the time, even if he knows he can kick the insane shit in the face
also there's just the fact that Usopp is afraid of everything but not bugs, while Nami and Sanji are terrified of bugs, which is especially funny in Sanji's case, like Usopp is already filling a crucial spot in the dynamic here as "partner that gets rid of spiders"
ANYWAY UH
Usopp and Nami especially as the most Normal People (tm) have a really strong bond and you also always get the vibe that the two of them probably spend a lot of time dishing gossip with each other while between islands, like Usopp and Nami definitely vibe with each other when Usopp isn't acting like one of the kids. and it's easy to slot Sanji into that catty dynamic, too. also while Sanji still has a very "ew men" attitude toward Usopp, it's always felt a bit more dialed back? maybe it's just because if Sanji actually kicked Usopp for real he would turn every bone in Usopp's body to dust LOL but there's lots of moments of Sanji just interacting very cutely with Usopp, and they'll dance together and stuff like that, IDK IT'S ADORABLE I have always loved them platonically and the romantic step of SanUso was kind of obvious
and then I already shipped SaNa before so that all slots together
and they have lots of great moments as a trio, I haven't been caught up with OP in years so there's probably even more I don't know about, but obvious ones off the top of my head are everything that happens in Skypiea and a good chunk of Thriller Bark.
this post is very rambly and probably doesn't make a lot of sense but my point is that this threesome just Works for me. it's cute. I want them to smooch.
