Röhöghetünk, hogy Tommy boy úgy akarja leigázni Brüsszelt, hogy nem fogja érteni, mit kiabálnak neki vissza a sáncokról. Kelenföldi akcentusával többnyire olyan szavakat gördít ki a száján, mint ööööööö, a többi valahol félúton rostokol az eszperente és a halandzsa között. A videót nézve biztosak lehetünk benne, hogy Tommy-nak nemcsak az idegennyelvi képességei korlátozottak, de még az anyanyelviek is, sőt, valószínűleg súlyos olvasási zavarral is küzd. A mellette ülő hölgy jó tanítónéni módjára igyekszik segíteni neki és vezetni az ujjait a sorokon, de az elsősöket is megszégyenítő akadozással ő sem tud mit kezdeni.

De akkor már lefagy a mosoly az arcunkról, amikor belegondolunk: ő egy magyar ember, aki 16 éve ott ül, felveszi a szabad szemmel is jól látható fizetését, és nem hogy a minimum feltételeket nem volt képes teljesíteni az állás betöltéséhez, de még 16 év sem volt neki elég arra, hogy megtanulja azt a nyelvet, amin az országunkat képviseli.

Az ÁLTALÁNOS ISKOLÁS gyerekeinknek 14 évesen angolul kell felvételizniük még a nyelvi elők��szítő középiskolai tagozatokra is, miközben egy pOros orrú bohóc ott ül és kelenföldi akcentusra hivatkozva havonta milliókért makog, mint egy szerencsétlen béna tanulatlan balfasz.

Egy ilyen embert hány perc alatt rúgnának ki egy piaci alapon működő cégtől? Sőt, hogyan jutna el egy olyan munkáig, ahol alapfeltétel az angol nyelvtudás? Mennyire vihognának nyerítve a HR-esek, mikor Tommy állásra jelentkezik és megszólal az angol interjún, amit önéletrajza alapján beszél?

Mondhatnánk, hogy Nomen est omen, egy Deutsh-nak miért kellene angolul tudnia, de inkább mondjuk azt, hogy alkalmatlan. Hogy szégyen. Hogy ingyenélő. Hogy elbaszott. Elnézést, elszabott. Félreolvastam.

Slovakia to halt diesel supplies to Ukraine if oil transit not restored

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico stated that his country would stop supplying diesel fuel to Ukraine if Kyiv did not restore oil supplies from Russia’s Lukoil group through its territory, according to Euractiv.

If the transit of Russian crude through Ukraine is not renewed in a short time, [Slovak refiner] Slovnaft will not continue in supplies of diesel to Ukraine.

Slovakia and Hungary, the two countries opposing military aid to Ukraine, have been mounting pressure since Kyiv placed Lukoil on a sanctions list last month, preventing the company’s oil from passing to Slovak and Hungarian refineries.

Oil shipments through Ukraine from Russian suppliers other than Lukoil have not been interrupted. Meanwhile, Slovak supplies accounted for a tenth of diesel consumption in Ukraine, Fico stressed.

He added that he had proposed to Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal a technical solution to restore halted oil flows on Friday. However, he did not provide any details about the proposal, but said that it should include several countries.

I welcome reports that relevant trading firms are already thinking about how to implement this technical solution in the shortest possible time.

The dispute revealed the extent to which some EU countries still depend on Russian energy more than two years after the bloc decided to stop importing oil from Moscow following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic have exemptions to the ban on pipeline oil imports from Russia to ensure time to find alternatives.

HUNGARIAN FOREIGN MINISTER SLAMS U.S. ORDERS TO RATIFY SWEDEN'S ADMISSION INTO NATO

Hungary's Foreign Minister, Peter Szijjarto, slammed the United States Thursday for giving orders to Hungary demanding the Hungarian parliament quickly ratify Sweden's admission into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Speaking on Wednesday, U.S. National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, warned the Hungarian authorities that American patience has its limits and that Washington is waiting for Hungary to ratify Sweden's ascension into NATO.

In response to Sullivan's comments, Szijjarto dismissed U.S. concerns and slammed Washington for interfering in Hungarian affairs, telling reporters with Russian news agency Ria Novosti, "First of all, I want to be clear: everyone must understand that Hungary is a sovereign country. And it is not only that everyone must understand this, but that everyone must respect it. Regardless of whether it's a superpower of the East, a superpower of the West or any other country, they must respect that Hungary is a state and the Hungarian parliament is a sovereign body," adding that Hungary will never act on instructions coming from another nation.

"These kinds of statements are completely unnecessary, they show disrespect for Hungary. We never criticize US decisions. We never criticize congressional decisions. We never interfere with what they put on the agenda or what they don't included in it. And we expect the same from others,” Szijjarto warned.

“So, to be honest, we are not concerned about such instructions. Because we are not the 51st state, but a very sovereign country,” the Hungarian Foreign Minister added.

Previously, the Hungarian parliament failed to pass Sweden's admission into NATO due to a "lack of quorum" resulting from a boycott by opposition parties in Hungary's main governing body.

Turkiye's Grand National Assembly previously ratified Sweden's bid to enter NATO in mid-January, meaning Hungary remains the last holdout for Sweden's ascension into the alliance.

A few days ago I saw some Ducktales here and decided to write about one of my favourite Hungarian historical moments, but then I realized that the anniversary is in less than a week, so I scheduled this post exactly on the 30th anniversary even for the minute, at 18:08 CET. (Edit: fuck Tumblr, it messed up scheduling, but second part is on its way)

So let me to present you the story of the Ducktales generation of Hungary, the children born in the 80s, who were traumatized by the aforementioned cartoon exactly 30 years ago, on December 12th 1993 at 18:08.

The year is 1993. The ill-fated little Central-European Hungary is barely out of the more than 40 years of terrible communist dictatorship, it only elected it's first in decades democratic government in 1990 and the last occupying Soviet soldier left the the country in the Summer of 1991.

The first media war is on full rage, meaning that there is still only two, government owned, tv channel, (and time to time HBO, if you were at the right place at the right time) but unlike during the socialism, Western programmes are allowed. This two facts together mean that every time there is a kid's programme on, practically every children who has access to tv, watches it.

Every Sunday afternoon is for Walt Disney, but most importantly for Ducktales. This one has a chokehold on every kid, the absolutle favourite. (Interestingly never became popular for any other generations in Hungary, unlike other iconic programmes, despite being aired a few more times in the following decades.)

So we get to the Sunday of December 12th. Allegedly 2.2 million children is in front of the tv, accompanied by many adults. The episode "A Whale of a Bad Time" is at its emotional high. Scrooge McDuck (or as we know him, Uncle Dagobert) is histerically jumping on the dinner table, because the ship with his money is lost. At 18:08 one of the most famous last sentence is said: 'A sea monster ate my ice cream!!!'

The screen goes black and white, the programme stops, blackness, then the grey channel logo shows up and Chopin's Funeral March starts playing. For long minutes nothing happenes, except of course for the hundreds of thousands of kids having a temper tantrum. By the time the March is coming to the end, even more adults are in the room, either because of the screaming kid or the sudden change of mood.

After 2 whole minutes again a moment of blackness, then a fat, old man in thight black suit comes up with a flag in the the background.

For many of the children watching, this was the first time to ever come to contact with politics, and for some of them, with death. Because the man, Péter Boross, who at that first moment still unbeknownst to the audience had already been the Prime Minister for less than an hour, had an important message:

'Fellow citizens, Hungarians, here at home and around the world. Destiny gave me a painful duty. Dr József Antall, Prime Minister of Hungary today after 5 pm passed away.'

Of course the passing of the reigning Prime Minister would be breaking news everywhere, especially if he is the first democratically elected one in more than 40 years, but this event became more important for a different cause.

Heard some rumours before, but I just went into a bookstore where the staff was discussing what to do now. The Hungarian government is basically banning lgbtq content from underage people. Any book that contains any lgbtq related topic is to be sectioned under mature content and wrapped up so no one can open it in-store. Depictions of sexual content and gore don't have this.

I am so fucking pissed. We are being played against each other. We are being fed hatred from so many channels disguised as safety and community that we can no longer tell the difference.

Hungary is eating itself up.

OECD cancels anti-bribery mission in Hungary

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) cancelled a mission to Hungary to discuss anti-bribery measures due to the government’s failure to implement its previous recommendations.

The Paris-based OECD has been a driving force behind the global anti-corruption movement for more than four decades. However, this is the first time such a high-profile mission has been cancelled.

The meeting scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday was cancelled due to what the OECD called the failure of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s government to ensure that ministers and high-ranking officials were represented at the event sufficiently.

The high-level mission decided on by the Working Group on Bribery in December 2023 was meant to address the Government of Hungary’s failure to make tangible progress in addressing long-standing recommendations.

According to the OECD, Budapest underestimates the risks of bribery. The organisation also cited the lack of an effective strategy for detecting and investigating corruption abroad.

The Working Group also remains seriously concerned about Hungary’s low level of foreign bribery enforcement.

The OECD stated that it would take additional measures to enable the Hungarian government to re-engage at an appropriate level.
