Oh man, did I forget I have rly rly old httyd book art lying around in my sketchbook? Yes I did!

A small tribute to one of the most awesome fight scenes I have ever read, in which an undersized child fought a 300 pound mad genious with an ax, standing on the spar of a sinking ship, in the middle of a lightning storm.

Oh, fun fact I learned from working on a tallship! They grease the spars. Actually grease them, and the masts as well. It keeps them from soaking up too much water and from drying out. I'm not sure if the Norse did this back in their day, but I think about it sometimes.

And then a more relaxed moment, because I like to remember that Hiccup has a cat.

Toothless and Hiccup! From how to train your dragon. This took me wayyyyyyy longer than I thought it would, but hey it's here it's done. I love this movie and franchise, and I'm so happy I was requested to draw Httyd.

I don't like the way Stormfly and Hookfang are looking so far in the live action (toothless is iffy but still better than those two and my issues are different)

So I attempted to (based of of real animals) come up with a design that in my opinion is better.

This is what I got. Keep in mind I don't generally do realistic stuff so this sketch is about as good as its gonna get (unless I get hit with lots of inspiration)

Most of my issues with the live action are in his face, both the fact they made it more pointy and he lost his distinctive teeth. Really all the facial features (save the horns) that make monstrous nightmares recognizable

Anyway below the cut is the abomination of a reference image that I made

His head is very alligator shaped (just the tip being a bit more beak like) so that was the base, and the bigger teeth are taken for Saber tooth tigers
