Hanging out and waiting for the flea spray to dry and then I get to vacuum again and wipe down everything in my room!!! Yippee!!!!
#yeah I'm. bruh these days off are starting to feel a lot less like days off#I'm washing as much as i can get my hands on too to try to get all this in one go#i haven't seen a whole bunch of fleas so i don't think the infestation is too bad but I've nuked my room with raid#i already had the window open so hopefully that doesn't minimize the effect but there was no other way to open it#if not beforehand; opened both doors too; it's gonna be 500 degrees in here but hopefully flea free#besides apparently cat fleas can't fully sustain themselves on human hosts so the population may have already been#destabilizing on its own especially with how often i vacuum; crossing my fingers guys i really hope this is it!!#i havent been bitten in the past few days + only saw one when i was shuffling everything around for spraying#the stuffed animals.. might be able to park in the sun and leave them in my car to heat treat them? idk if that's enough#gonna have to play it by ear and take it from there#only didn't get the carpet on the stairs bc it's not a place where people stay and i imagine fleas wouldn't hang out#where there isn't a food source; yes I'm aware of the eggs and the pupae withstanding bad elements but also.#please let this be it 👁👁#shai speaks#going to the doc on wednesday and treating the lice and i will finally be rid of parasites. god.

How has Tenko's face been? She looks great! And how is the new place?
shes had a bunch of breakouts since we moved its like very well one week then very bad another week. i put some ointment that she was prescribed + the anti flea spray on her fur all at the same day and the results are showing! this is the best shes been in a while, hopefully i can still use both sprays a couple more times before the bottles are empty, they rlly been helping. also new place is great! im trying to save money to install more safety nets on the other windows so we can get an actual wind current going thru the apartment + need to replace my bathroom's shower box which is gonna be extra expensive but im trying to convince the owner of the apartment to pay for half of it since its a thing thats gonna make HIS apartment better you know? other than that its been real nice its noisy but we (me and the cats) rlly seem more at peace lol

Do you have any advice for first time cat parent? (Human parent of cat, not cat parent)
Congrats on getting a kitty!!!!!
If you are getting an adult cat I would say just be really, really patient with letting them acclimate! I know it can take weeks and weeks for them to feel comfortable. If you are getting a kitten (we got all 3 of ours as kittens) they usually take way less time to acclimate and feel comfortable in the new space, maybe just a couple days depending on how big your house is and if you have other animals that need to be introduced safely to a new kitten.
Just some things that come to mind:
-let them come out of the cat carrier on their own time
-make sure their litter is accessible, not too high for a kitten to get in, if you are getting a kitten, and that they know where and what it is by setting them in it a few times. Kittens amaze me with how smart they are and how quickly they are house trained compared to puppies. I’m going to brag about my three and say they’ve never had an accident more than a few days after coming home with us.
-notice where they like to nap and put a soft blanket there or a cat bed nearby and they might be more prone to use it
-don’t let them eat strings, they try to eat entire lengths of string
- glass or stainless steel water bowls are better than plastic because they don’t trap as much bacteria between washes which can affect their health. cats love fresh water instinctively so change it often even if it’s not empty. They usually prefer their water to be a ways away from their food.
-wash their food bowls often for this same reason.
- you will probably buy toys your cat won’t play with. Mine love these little plastic springs that bounce really easily. And hair ties.
- if your cat chews/ claws things it shouldn’t like my youngest does you can get an all natural citrus oil spray called cat repellant and spray the piece of furniture/Christmas tree/ Venetian blinds and they won’t chew it for a while because it smells of citrus.
- they love to get up high. I have a floor to ceiling post with little hammocks that stick out at intervals and they love it. A normal cat tree achieves this too if you are able to get one!
-my eldest cat was determined to destroy our television so I put a really big piece of packing tape sticky-side up on the entertainment center so that every time he got up there the tape stuck to his paws and he finally.stopped.jumping.up.there. This one felt a little mean but it was really becoming an issue and I was afraid the tv was going to topple onto him one day so it was for his own good.
- make sure you keep track of your cats immunizations, and remember kittens need 3 rounds of shots fairly early on. If you adopt a kitten from someone and not an organization, make sure you ask if they’ve been dewormed and had their first distemper shots so you can tell your vet. Many rental agencies require proof of rabies vaccination for you to bring your pets. Spaying and neutering has benefits even if you only have one cat and they stay inside. That will become available around 6 months of age. If it’s too expensive, shop around for clinics and places that will do it less expensively because they usually exist.
-flea and heartworm medicine. Keep track of when you treated them last because it’s super easy to forget. Some are monthly, some are every other month.
- I was advised to keep my cats on kitten food until they were one year old. It is higher calorie and often has more nutrients as they’re still growing. I was also advised to keep my boy cat on wet food as well as dry, because males can dehydrate easier due to their urethras being more prone to it or something and it can make them sick. The wet food helps hydration. I have one cat that will not eat wet food 🤷♀️
- for 6-9 dollars you can get a water additive that helps prevent gingivitis and other mouth issues. Their vet put me on to this so I don’t worry that it’s unsafe.
-if your cat has the zoomies all night and you can’t let them sleep in your room with you because you get no sleep don’t feel bad. You’ve got to sleep. I’d love mine to sleep with us but the minute ten pm hits they become evil.
-two of my cats are SO mouthy. I love it, they talk at me all day, sometimes for a reason, sometimes just to chat. This isn’t advice just a comment lol.
- I have two cats (out of three) that love belly rubs/scratches, and this might be a coincidence or it might be that we successfully conditioned them to like it when they were kittens. Most of them famously hate it or only tolerate it for three seconds. So if you get a kitten pet their belly often and see how it goes lol. It’s worth a shot.
-while still immensely easier than puppies, kittens are wild!
-personality wise they are all different, for the most part they’re just going to be who they are, and you will love them for it.
-no matter what you name them you’re probably going to end up calling them by three weird nicknames that have little to do with the original name
Enjoy your new kitty!!!! They are perfect little creatures that domesticated themselves for their own convenience which sounds about right. 💕 shameless plug of my cats

Hey I just saw your post about the fleas in your room and thought maybe my advice could help. You can get sprays from pet stores specifically for furniture/rooms as well as a powder called diatomaceous earth, it's completely safe for animals and will dry out and kill any fleas that get on it. If fleas on your pets is a recurring problem I'd also suggest checking the treatment just to make sure it covers all flea life stages and not just adults or eggs (some of them do that and they're way less effective). Hopefully this helps and you can get rid of your fleas problem, I know how awful they can be!!
Thank you sm for this!!!
We were hoping that the fleas would starve to death after jumping off the cats but it seems we are not that lucky so I may need to rezort to flea spray T-T
I also need to stop my dog from getting on my bed , she's the one bringing them inside >:(

do you have any advice on how to clean plushies of fleas? one of my cats escaped and I think she may have gotten them and spread all over my bed/stuffies :(((
i once bought a stuffed frog from a garage sale who was full of fleas! this is what i did and it worked….
1. put the stuffed animals in a garbage bag and tie it shut as tight as you can.
leave them in there for 30 full days! this should be long enough to starve any fleas. eggs that hatch during this time should die off as well.
2. hand wash them like normal with dawn dish soap and lukewarm water.
make sure to rinse them off super well! you should see the dead fleas coming off the plush!
if you can’t get this plush wet, i’d recommend vacuuming them on a low setting and then spraying them with disinfectant spray instead of washing. lysol and other similar sprays can leave a gross residue on the plush, so i’d recommend fursuit spray. you can buy some online or even make your own!
3. let the plushies air dry in front of a fan. don’t forget to occasionally rotate the plush so that they dry faster! air drying can take anywhere from 1-3 days depending on the plush and how wet they were. plushies with bean pellets will take longer to dry than ones with only stuffing!
4. after the plush is dry, comb the fur and make sure there’s no remaining fleas!
5. as a last protective measure you could spray with disinfectant spray! fursuit spray works the best, because it’s specifically made for fake fur and will NOT leave behind gross residue :)
if you can’t wait for the 30 days, you could try just washing the plush. hot water should kill fleas BUT it can damage the plushie if it has glue. sometimes hair, eyes, or noses are glued on. the hot water can melt the glue, and cause the items to fall off. so be careful.
you might be able to try washing plushies with flea killing shampoo, but i have no idea if that will leave a residue on the plush or not. if it does leave a residue, you can always soak the plush in diluted vinegar for 30 minutes. that should remove any gross residue left behind.
make sure to treat all your pets for fleas as well!! it doesn’t matter how well you clean the plushies, if your pets still have fleas they can just crawl right back on the plush!
i hope your cat is doing well! it sounds like she had an exciting little adventure! i’m really sorry about the fleas tho :(

I moved the catnip inside temporarily for 2 reasons. The first is because we have fleas ✨🥳✨ and learned that they don't like mint, and I didn't want to spray peppermint oil in my room because of the cat and essential oils being toxic to cats, so I just have the catnip plant in here to hopefully help. We also have diatomaceous earth scattered around (I was choking on it yesterday) and Rookie is now wearing a flea collar. Apartment pest services were also already scheduled for July 26th, so we should be clear of fleas by the time we move out in August. I'm not looking forward to packing (I hate moving), but thankfully unlike my parents homes, we've kept this place pretty clean and it's fairly small so cleaning every room when we go should be pretty easy. The non-packing chore I'm looking forward to the least is changing the shower head back to the landlord's, because it was hard enough to get the old one off and now the current one is just smooth. even if I use the pipe wrench, it's going to be hard to get enough friction to remove it . I don't know how I got it on, to be honest. At least I still have Teflon tape so I won't have to buy any new supplies.
The second reason is to give it a break from the heat since as you can see it's withering a little bit. I might have left it unwatered for a day longer than I should have by accident. I really, really want to put my plants in the ground where I can water them daily and they can freely put down roots :( darn this apartment life.
It will go back outside after a few days of acting as a flea repellent and monitoring for plant health.
The lavender, wand flower, basil, and wildflowers are all dead. The thyme is basically dead but I keep watering it because there are some green sprouts somehow hanging on. Leaving just the cacti, which are doing just fine in the heat. There's also a couple stray sunflowers still kicking in the wildflower box, I'm still watering them too.
#Gardenblr#Gardening#Apartment life#Pest control#Don't use essential oils around cats!!! If doing so use them sparingly and only in areas where the cat won't have direct contact#apartment gardening

[ #WeRate ] Vet's Best Flea and Tick Yard and Kennel Spray: A Natural Solution for Pest-Free Spaces
Living in the humid Gulf Coast with multiple pets, we know firsthand how relentless fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes can be. Keeping these pests at bay is a must, which is why we rely on Vet's Best Flea and Tick Yard and Kennel Spray.
This post contains affiliate links, and we only recommend products we have either used, are using, or would use and share with our family and friends. Click here to read our Affiliate Disclaimer.
Why We Love It
Vet's Best Flea and Tick Yard and Kennel Spray is not just effective; it also has a refreshing peppermint-like smell that our family loves, is smells like fall and Halloween! My kids and I find the scent invigorating, though it fades after a while for those who prefer a subtler fragrance.
What It Is
This 32-oz. bottle of Vet's Best Flea and Tick Yard and Kennel Spray comes with a ready-to-use hose attachment, making it super convenient to apply. The formula's natural oils make it safer to use around plants and pets, which is a big plus for us, especially after one of our cats had a severe reaction to a traditional topical treatment.
How We Use It
We spray our yard after every rain and once a week to keep those pesky insects under control. While we might be overdoing it a bit, living in a flea and mosquito haven like the Gulf Coast means we’d rather be safe than sorry.
Preventing an infestation is far easier than fighting one, especially with multiple pets in the house.
Not only do we use Vet's Best Flea and Tick Yard and Kennel Spray outdoors, but we’ve also found it handy as a quick floor wash indoors to keep fleas from setting up shop.
After spraying (outdoor or indoor), we wait at least 30 minutes before letting our pets back into the treated area. We prefer to wait a couple of hours to be extra cautious, as some pets can be sensitive to even natural oils.
Things to Keep in Mind
While the peppermint scent of Vet's Best Flea and Tick Yard and Kennel Spray is pleasant for us, we know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. If you prefer less scent-y scents or just don't like the smell, don't worry! It dissipates fairly quickly.
We also love that it’s less chemical-heavy than other pest control products, which gives us peace of mind knowing we’re not exposing our pets to harsh chemicals.
Would We Buy It Again?
Rating: ★★★★★
Absolutely! Vet's Best Flea and Tick Yard and Kennel Spray is a staple in our pet care routine. It’s a natural, effective solution for keeping pests away, and the peace of mind it brings is worth every penny.
Whether you’re dealing with the humidity of the Gulf Coast or just want a reliable, less toxic option for your pets, this spray is a great choice.

Hiiii!!! If you’re still taking one shot requests, could you write some Buttons x Elmer (Butter? Idk there ship name, sorry)?
Yeah! I know this is a small one-shot, but they're isn't much on the Butter ship and I'm still quite new to the fandom (I watched Newsies for the first time 3 days before Christmas 🫣)
But here's a one-shot of them on a date!
(Also guys this might include traits from headcannons I'm gonna make soon!)
I hope you like this!
Benjamin "Buttons" Davenport and Elmer Kazprak were walking the streets of Woodside at 6 pm as they were on their way to Jacobi's Deli for a date. They were holding each other's hand gently and still had a slight bit of dirt on their clothes from working all day.
After they walked in, they sat down in a corner with a small, curled oak table with 3 chairs and 2 glasses of water in front of them and a small bag of prawn crackers next to them. They were munching away slowly as they didn't want to have their food in 1 minute and be hungry for the rest of the night.
Buttons said nervously, as this was the first date he had been on, let alone with a boy, "so...how are you?.."
Elmer was distracted by looking over at his surroundings but then looked over to Buttons and said, "Uhm, okay. What about you?" He asked quite alarmed after being disrupted.
"I've been great, just extremely itchy." Buttons said as he looked down and started scratching the back of his head.
"Maybe you need some cream or spray for that, Whiskers," Elmer said teasingly and giggled lightly. Whiskers was a nickname that came from Mush for Buttons because cats had fleas too. "Maybe you'll be allowed to spoon with me for once."
"Elmer." Buttons said firmly as he stopped scratching and slowly looked up to Elmer but ended up laughing. He could never get annoyed with his date.
They both ended up laughing together as it died down after a few seconds. They then both looked up at each other and their smiles softened in adoration as they saw the other smiling. They then drank a little bit of their water and Elmer sat back in his seat as Buttons had his elbows on the table and his chin on his fists.
They stayed quiet for a few moments before Elmer spoke up, "Why did you spend your money on the food and water? Why didn't you let me pay too?" He asked with a confused expression. This wasn't like Buttons. Of course, he'd be generous, but not this much.
"Because I just felt like it. You bought me a cheap sewing kit to put my buttons back on 3 years ago." He just said blankly.
"And you've been so obsessed with it since. You didn't need to thank me for it." Elmer said with a blank but confused expression.
"Who said I was?" Buttons asks firmly as he leans in more but then chuckles.
Elmer chuckles too and drinks a bit more of his waster and then says, "Let's just finish up here and then go The Bowery."
"T-the bowery?.." Buttons asks as he takes his elbows off the table and drinks a bit more of his water, "We are not sneaking in there. I know what you're like."
"No, no, no, I don't mean we're sneaking in," Elmer says reassuringly as he puts his hands on the table, "we're just gonna see if Medda'll let us in for free, y'know, since we're Jack's friends."
Buttons takes 1 last sip of his water before leaning back on his chair and saying, "I suppose so."
"Great!" Elmer says with a wide smile and then finishes his water and says in a rush, "Let's go now. Oh, and keep the crackers!" And then he gets out of his chair, holds Buttons' hand tightly and leads him out.
Buttons quickly grabs the prawn crackers before following and they both end up laughing as Mr Jacobi shouts, "Aye, you kids!" But understands since it's just young love to Jacobi.
The boys end up running to the theatre with smiles and laughs but the crackers bag is slightly open so it pours out onto the street and they end up giggling, almost falling to the floor. But hey soon calm down and just walk to the theatre.
Once they get in, they see many patrons of the theatre and the scent of cigars and alcohol through the air. The Bowery Beauties were performing a duet and the boys sneakily walked backstage.
Medda was walking around with the stage manager but then saw the boys and said, "Hey, what are you kids doing around here?"
The couple shared a look before Elmer looked back at Medda and said, "W-were Jack's friends."
Then Buttons butted in with, "And we were hoping we could stay? Just to see one show and then we're gone."
Medda thinks about it and then looks down at the boys as she says, "I suppose so. But don't hs running around up in here."
They nod and then run to a booth and sit down together. They watched the twins perform and before they knew it, Medda performed next. She sang about dying but in a beautiful manner. The boys weren't too focused on the lyrics but were focused on each other. They kept looking back and forth at the other one when they were watching the show and tried not to get caught. It was like a game to them.
During the song, Elmer starts to wrap his fingers around Buttons' as his hand is by his side and Buttons looks back at Elmer and blushes. He then looked away with a small smile and looked down at their hands. Their fingers were intertwined with each other and he couldn't stop smiling.
After the song ended, they walked back to Buttons' home where his family was still awake in the dining room having dinner.
They both walked up the porch and Elmer put his hands in his pockets and said, "Maybe you should come to the lodge sometime. You might like it there with all the other boys, and me, of course." And chuckles.
Buttons smiled slightly and said, "Do you wanna come in for more food? My family won't be too rowdy about you here, although they can be like that sometimes."
"No, no, I'm fine." Elmer says with a reassuring smile. He did want to come in, he was just a little nervous.
Buttons then put his hands in his pockets too and said, "Well, I guess I'll see you tomorrow then. Bye." And then he opened the door and walked in.
"B-bye," Elmer said quietly as he watched him walk inside and close the door. He was quite nervous when dates would end since he didn't know what would happen next. He then shouted, "I LOVE YOU!!" But then realised it was too much and walked away in a hurry.
Buttons couldn't help but laugh to himself inside his house as he heard it and walked into the dining room with the biggest grin on his face.
That night, Elmer was asleep, wrapped in the blanket and was practically drooling on it since he dreamt about another date with Buttons. It was something they both could never forget.

oh wait, speaking of baby animals, how are your baby animals doing???
Very well! The three chickies that hatched a couple days before Easter are very cute and sweet and smol and fluffy 😭🖤 and the kittens are all very grown up now, sometimes I forget they're not even a year old yet. 😂 Today's the first day it hasn't rained in awhile so I had planned to spray all of the cats with animal safe flea and tick repellent because the ticks are really bad this year and I only managed to treat Pippin and get a little bit on Virgil before they all understood what was going on and hid from me all day lol, I'm gonna have to treat the rest very sneakily tomorrow
#ive lived on this farm for sixteen years and up until three months ago only found maaaaybe eight?!#and now all of a sudden khal had three and gemma and pippin both had one#so im trying something new and hopefully it works#because even though ive gotten very good at ripping the ticks off i freakin hate it

spouse had to do something downstairs. for context, we have not opened the basement door in a month due to finding fleas down there. was down there for less than two minutes. came back up and immediately went outside because he thought he had ants on him.
he did not have ants on him. apparently the fleas, which we seem to have killed upstairs, are ALIVE AND WELL downstairs, and quite possibly desperate and starving.
so okay, horrifying but can tolerate. He immediately got his clothes washing in hot water, flea sprayed everywhere he’d been upstairs and his boots, sprayed the basement door and then i did so again. fine. whatever. problem dealt with, don’t open that door for another few months til they’ve had time to die.
fast forward roughly an hour. found a flea on me.
SO suffice it to say I spent about two hours in a state of straight up panic. like i don’t think i’ve had a true panic attack before but it was quite close that time.
so i’m calling a professional exterminator on monday lmao, because I am Done. I am terrified of any time I see black fuzz in my house (which is often since i have a fucking black cat), and then am too terrified to really study the black fuzz to see if it’s actually fleas, and I was Almost sane again after a month without issues but I’m very much not okay again now.
we really can’t afford the exterminator because our savings is already in shambles from car shit and two vet appts but I Cannot Continue like this. I can’t do it. I mean the cats seem to be better, they’re acting more normal and the scabs and balding spots on one are healing, so this may not be the harbinger of doom that i’m convinced it is but idk. they were due for their next flea treatment tomorrow (which we also could not afford but i had to buy anyway) so I went ahead and did it tonight.
anyway. that was my saturday. have to decide how hardcore i’m going with cleaning tomorrow. will probably have to dose myself with anxiety meds again to even contemplate it, rather than just curling up in a ball and crying. which is what i did tonight. lol.
#kit talks#tw bug phobia#idk how to tag for this so. if you don’t want to read about fleas in a home don’t open this post#panicking is exhausting by the way. god.

Howdy again, Blu! A question that was sort of buzzing (a little too literally) around while outside yesterday. How are you with bugs? Not like finding a spider in your home or finding a tick on you. But like flies, gnats, mosquitoes when they're buzzing around your head. Out here in the woods they're easy enough to bat away, but they always come back. I envy animals with ears that can flick, could use my own pair. But do they get in the way when trying to aim your rifle? Are they bad in Australia like that? (I've never been, would love to go someday) Do you use any sort of repellent? - @anonymoussniper
Mozzies are really fucking annoying and are the only flying bugs I can't stand, which sucks because there's a ton of them. I'm not scared or anything by any bugs (never have been), it's just an annoyance.
Bugs (especially flies) are so prevalent here that we have a slang term for swatting away flies with your hand--the Aussie salute. We also have specific names for flies: dunny budgie and blowie are blowflies.
They never get in the way when I'm aiming since luckily smoke makes them fuck off and if they're really bad I'll light up a dart to make them keep their distance from my face at least. Even then it's not that bad and you get used to the feeling of flies landing on your face after a few minutes.
The only repellent I use is permethrin. I hate chemicals but it's necessary in the bush. I spray my clothes with it every six weeks and it kills ticks/fleas/mozzies on contact. Misty gets sprayed just as often to keep her from tracking ticks into Matilda and additionally she also gets Nexguard edibles which kill any flea/tick/mozzie what bites her. Additionally I spray my own body down (neck, any exposed parts of my chest, arms, legs if I'm wearing shorts) before I leave to go into the bush. DO NOT USE THIS SHIT IF YOU HAVE CATS, IT'S HIGHLY TOXIC TO CATS AND WILL KILL THEM. ALSO DO NOT USE IT IF YOUR DOG IS A COLLIE. THEY HAVE A GENE THAT BLOCKS THEIR BODY FROM SAFELY PROCESSING THE PERMETHRIN AND WILL HAVE FATAL SEIZURES.
I thankfully only have to do this whole process at certain times of the year when ticks/mozzies are really bad.
