hi, not sure if this is the right place for this but anyway.
didn't know about consequences of argent dawn until it was being screamed about on the forums by a group of players over the last few days.
im not sure if this 'coalburnt' fella knows about the striesand effect but he's only increasing the exposure of this place and after a looksie at the tags associated with him here i can see why he doesn't like you guys but at the same time a grown ass man acting the way he has is completely unacceptable.
i'll be sure to share this page with my friends because a lot of them have had worries about people like the pcu in the past as well.
All publicity is good publicity as they say. Please do remember to use the "archive" feature which can be accessed by going to this link here or by pressing the "..." button beside the "Follow" button and then pressing "Archive".
We have endeavored over the years to keep a tagging system going though it is not entirely perfect, though the archive system itself is suitable enough we believe. If you like our work please share with your friends and if you have submissions of your own please feel free to do so either in the "Confessions of Argent Dawn" button or again by the "..." button and pressing "Submit"

Ideas for PPG episodes if my s/i was canon:
Introduction episode (of course) where Cherry Coading appears in the news as the sole programmer behind some new great innovation at Townsville Robotics (or something named similar idk), and Mojo Jojo decides to kidnap her and force her to use her programming skills to create some new evil device for him. As she's eventually reported missing and the police as well as the Powerpuff Girls slowly piece together where she's gone, Cherry ends up surviving just fine by playing her sweetness up to 11 with Mojo and feeding his ego just enough for him to lay off from being too cruel to her. At the end of the episode when the girls finally come to Cherry's rescue, they find that she's actually been doing just fine, but nevertheless she is saved and Mojo is taken to jail. As the episode ends, it's shown that Cherry's manipulative sweetness may have worked a bit too well as Mojo Jojo chisels a drawing of her face into the stone prison wall. Her tactics may not have been all show, either, as it fades to Cherry doodling Mojo in the corners of a blueprint, leaving the episode open to continue the romance at some point in the future 😉💖💖💖
Bear with me because this one I have extremely planned out but next episode Cherry appears in would be one where, during another battle in Mojo's lair, the Powerpuff Girls happen upon a journal of schemes on how to win over Cherry Coading, and the girls decide to help him with going on a date with Cherry (in reality it's more like they threaten him into it 😂). Blossom and Bubbles agree that the power of love may be just what Mojo needs to turn over a new leaf toward the side of good, whereas Buttercup is just waiting for him to slip so she can kick his butt and throw him in jail. Although Mojo Jojo doesn't take much of their advice to heart, one thing that resonates with him is the idea that he may have to give up evil for good if he truly wants to win Cherry's heart, and although it's a hard reality to face, he's willing to at least give it a try (at least for a little bit). The second half of the episode is the dinner date between Mojo and Cherry, while the girls not-so-subtly observe from various spots in the restaurant (in the coat rack, in a food cart, disguised as wait staff, etc) and continue to give Mojo advice that is either terrible or terribly interpreted by him, and as the night goes on things only grow more and more terribly awkward between the two. Eventually things reach a breaking point, and the one who ends up walking out is Mojo, exiting the restaurant and sitting on the curb sadly, thinking he blew it. However, Cherry follows and meets him there while the girls watch their conversation from the glass window of the establishment. Although they can't hear anything due to being on the other side of the glass, eventually Cherry ends up taking Mojo's hand in her own and giving him a kiss on the cheek! The girls dash outside excitedly and fly around the duo, celebrating their success and mentioning how Mojo is bound to give up evil now that the two are together, but suddenly Mojo breaks out into an evil laugh, starting quiet but gradually growing maniacal before saying that the girls are such fools and he never needed their help to begin with. He pulls out a remote similar to a car key and presses a button to summon a giant destructive mech, which he quickly dashes to to begin controlling and destroying the city gleefully. For a moment the bewildered girls question what they did wrong and how, if anything, he seems even more evil and destructive than ever before, before flying off to stop the villain. The episode comes to a close as Cherry watches the girls fly off toward Mojo's mech, sighing dreamily and saying "knock 'em dead, big guy", which reveals that she is definitely in full support of Mojo's nefarious deeds and that's most likely what she told him out on the curb when the girls were watching from the window. Also I think it's be cute if the episode was called "Simianfatuated". Say it out loud, it's more clever spoken than written
(The next few will not be as long I promise) Episode where Cherry wishes she could help Mojo with his schemes more, to which he invents a way to turn her pure evil. Things backfire when she ends up being far more evil than he is, dumping him and saying evil is her one true love. She uses his own technology to create a weapon that will destroy the entire Earth, and Mojo must team up with the Powerpuff Girls to stop Cherry and turn her back to normal.
While "monitoring" Cherry from his observatory as she goes about her day, Mojo notices her frequenting a specific video game store very often and becoming quite chummy with the store owner, Vince. Quickly becoming jealous, Mojo decides to keep spying behind her back, as well trying to relate to her video game interest when the two spend time together (which doesn't go very well, as ironically he is terrible at most games). Things come to a head when Mojo decides to accompany Cherry for a visit to the store; every little thing Vince says and does drives Mojo up the wall, only because Cherry seems clearly very encapsulated by Vince's gaming knowledge and sense of humor. The boiling point hits when, of all things, Cherry's hand accidentally slides over Vince's, sending Mojo into a rage as he begins to destroy the store and beat up Vince. Cherry yells for him to stop and asks what the heck his problem is, to which Mojo immediately plays the victim and whines that he was just worried that Cherry had feelings for someone else and was going to leave him all alone 🥺 To which Cherry immediately calls bullshit on and says that he's overreacting BIG-time and they're allowed to talk to OTHER PEOPLE, but she accidentally lets it slip that she was being overly sweet to Vince on purpose to get free stuff. The PPG show up from the commotion and after a quick fight, take Mojo off to jail, and Cherry is, obviously, banned from the store.
Alternate version of Criss Cross Crisis where Mojo swaps bodies with Cherry and uses the confusion as well as their sweet demeanor to rob various stores across Townsville, similar to the OG episode. After finding out the truth, Cherry (in Mojo's body) is understandably pissed to find out what Mojo's been up to, and they go with the girls to confront him. There's a brief comedic scene of the couple arguing before the girls begin their battle with Mojo; most of the episode proceeds as normally from here.

Thinking about games that aren't actually turn based but they might as well be. Generally this is accomplished by letting the player pause and issue orders to their units while paused.
However, I know of at least one game that does this not by extending timescales, but by condensing them.
Children of a Dead Earth is a sim/game about "realistic" spaceship battles. The mechanic of interest here is that the movement is orbital, anyone who knows KSP is familiar with this.
For those that are not, most space games work by just letting you fly all over the place with no penalties, and a neat auto-deceleration feature. So getting from point A to point B is just pointing at point B and holding down the acceleration then letting go and automatically coasting to a stop as you arrive within weapons range of point B.
How CoaDE works however, is by actually simulating the orbital mechanics involved. If you fight over Mars, both fleets are actually orbiting Mars. You cant just point at the enemy fleet and burn, you have to look at your orbits and plan a burn (or series of burns) that will cross your orbit over their orbit when they are actually in that part of their orbit.
Because of the dedication to realism, everything is modeled to scale. If you want to get to the other side of a planet to get a guy, it's going to take multiple burns over the course of hours or even days. Thankfully the game comes with a handy fast forward feature so you can skip the travel time between burns and encounters.
A notable feature of this feature is that it will automatically revert to real time when the enemy does something. Launching missiles, changing their course, etc.
So the flow of a battle goes: Take stock of the situation, make a plan, chart the requisite course, then fast forward, to be interrupted by your enemy's response, which you respond to, and so on and so forth. Until you get into weapons range and fast forward is disabled and both sides shoot at each other until one ship is exploded or rendered dead in the void.
Making it play like a turn-based 4x with realtime battles a la Total War, but at no point does it go below realtime speed, even when in the orbital map.
(Technically you can pause any time, but the five minutes it takes you to plan mean nothing when one orbit can be days or even months, so I don't bother. And the orders you can issue in battle are very simplified, so pausing doesn't grant you any benefits there either.)

Media lawyer Jonathan Coad says the defense KC for the Mirror Group is not looking confident about how the case is going. He feels that, in contrast, Prince Harry is a picture of calm and is doing well with his evidence.
Coad isn't the only one who has made comments about Prince Harry's calm demeanor on the stand.
Prince Harry's 55 page witness statement is an incredible read.

Eversion, by Alastair Reynolds
Let's try reviewing a book, shall we?
I just finished "Eversion" by Alastair Reynolds, and I have thoughts.
Oh, and everything will be spoilers after the cut...
Dr Silas Coade is the physician aboard the sailship Demeter, which is venturing north to investigate a mystery.
No, Dr Silas Coade is the physician aboard the steamship Demeter, which is sailing south to investigate a mystery in deepest Patagonia.
But no, no, Dr Silas Coade is the physician aboard the airship Demeter, which is shortly due to enter a fissure into the Hollow Earth to investigate a mystery far below the surface of the not-entirely-physically-plausible bauble-planet...
But no, no, no ... this isn't it, is it SILAS? You need to wake up before time runs out, entombed here below the ice-crust on Jupiter's moon Europa - Silas? Silas are you listening? Silas are we about to do this again, and what do you mean Dupin hasn't solved the eversion problem yet -
Cut
As quickly becomes apparent, Silas is apparently stuck in some sort of fantastical loop. Said loop appears to be linked to a story that he is attempting to write, in all iterations of it. The structure of the setting varies - the technology level goes up over each loop, but the nature of each loop is less plausible than the one preceding it. The very first loop is something that could believably have happened. The second loop is starting to stretch things a little - how did this crappy ship get all the way down to Patagonia? - but it's not quite jumped the shark, at least not yet. While it's subtle, the behaviour of gravity inside the Hollow Earth is wrong (there shouldn't be a "down" inside a uniform self-gravitating hollow spehere). Oh, and the shell-planet is also self-evidently absurd, though no-one living there sees it as such. The last, and obviously-delusional, loop is straight out of a '40s SF pulp magazine. (In fact it bore more than a passing resemblance to bits of Triplanetary Patrol by E.E. 'Doc' Smith, which I'm pretty sure was deliberate on the part of the author!)
There are several common features to each loop. Silas is always the ship's physician. Ramos has always suffered some manner of head injury. The Demeter, whatever class of vehicle it is, is always voyaging toward a mysterious destination that can only be reached through a fissure, though the nature of the fissure changes each time. In each stage, Dupin, the young mathematician, is always ill and is always working on a problem related to the concept of "eversion". Dupin's condition also progresses - he visibily deteriorates between each cycle, even though the delusions themselves reset. When the Demeter traverses the fissure, they find a bizarre, menacing construction called the Edifice, which appears to be of inhuman origin and whose purpose is not clear. They also find the wreck of another ship, the Europa, which apparently got there first. The crew of the Demeter discover they have been lied to. Disaster swiftly follows, ending with Silas's death.
Interestingly, in every cycle Silas has experienced some form of psychotropic disorder. Usually this presents as an addiction, which he is hiding from the crew (laudanum, then morphine, then the "Radium draught" from the Hollow Earth episode), though later on it takes the form of a supposed indoctrinal machine called the Plastic Educator. It is clear from these episodes that Silas does not have the full facts of his situation - or, perhaps, is hiding from them - though what exactly the real problem is remains unclear.
Also, there is always lightning.
Enter Ada Cossile. The mysterious woman is not present in absolutely every iteration of the cycle - she's notably absent aboard the Interplanetary Patrol spaceship - but when she is present, she acts both as a critic and somewhat of a temptress-figure to Silas. She critiques his writing, often quite harshly, but she also implies (or outright states) that the world that Silas occupies is a lie. She seems to know more than she should.
It slowly emerges that Cossile is trying to draw Silas back to reality, or at least what she views as reality. They are indeed on board a vehicle called the Demeter, except it is actually a lander from a spacecraft, currently trapped below the ice on Jupiter's moon Europa. It is close to an alien artifact known as the Edifice, and there is another wrecked ship - also called the Europa - nearby, as it appears that a second expedition was launched without the knowledge of Demeter's crew. Also, the crews of both have been abducted and are now trapped inside the Edifice, which is stated to be slowly mind-draining them toward death, and it's up to Ada and Silas to save them.
But the reality of the situation is simply too much, and Silas keeps fleeing from it into a hallucinatory fugue-state.
These are not the only revelations, though I have deliberately not mentioned a few points, so as not to spoil every surprise :)
Eversion is a page-turner - I found it hard to put down. The underlying mystery is interesting, and it poses some hard questions about loss and sacrifice - how much sacrifice is justified to save others? As is often the case with Reynolds novels, there's a theme of forbidden knowledge. It would have been better for everybody if they'd simply ignored the Edifice in the first place and no expedition to Jupiter had ever been launched. When Silas learns the truth, it doesn't make him happy, and in fact he's at his happiest at the very end when he abandons reality for the final time and goes to live permanently in what's implied to be his final fugue-state.
There are also - possibly - some unanswered questions. I'm not 100% convinced we've had the entire truth about who or what Ada Cossile was. There could be some hints that she too either does not know the full facts of her situation, or is presenting an edited version. There's one, brief scene in which Silas perceives her as something monstrous rather than alluring. Also, she's very keen that someone has to remain behind inside the Edifice and she's also very keen for the eversion problem to be solved - and who else might be interested in both these outcomes? After all, the eversion seems to be linked to whatever process via which the Edifice became damaged in the first place - a solution to the eversion could also be beneficial for the Edifice. One can wonder if perhaps it realised that the escape of some of its prisoners was inevitable, so instead it devised a "controlled crash" scenario where it's still able to get at least some of what it wants. (Dupin remains entombed within, and the Edifice has control of the wrecks of both the Europa and the Demeter. And with eversion solved, perhaps it can heal itself.) In this model, one has to wonder whether perhaps Ada has been influenced by the Edifice, or may indeed be an avatar of it? It's interesting that Silas seems to keep feeling a need to flee from her, even while he remains fascinated by her - perhaps on some level, he's sensed that something is "off" about her. It's also notable that Ada has a colour-motif associated with her - yellow! - and this is in a novel that is not generally heavy on strong visual imagery. (I also find myself reminded of the famous King In Yellow, a well-known proto-Lovecraftian work, though perhaps this might be a bit of a reach.)
Anyway, none of this is proved - perhaps Ada's story actually is the truth! - though I think a case can be made for it.
Overall I'd say that Eversion is an interesting, challenging novel, and definitely one worth reading.

Every time I go farther up the chain of adaptation for Nightmare Alley I end up deeply disappointed in whatever film adaptation I've seen just before.
Nightmare Alley is the story of a possible sociopath learning mentalism and using it to way up the social ladder until he reaches too high by pushing the wrong people too far.
First came 2021 film: Great visuals, Good actors, okay writing. About half an hour too long in my opinion. themes of manipulating with Christianity, what drives people to drink or not drink, how psychology can be used for good or for ill, how parents fuck up their kids. Not quite as indepth as I wanted but yeah overall not bad
Second: 1947 film: 40 minutes shorter! Characters more compelling, plot more dynamic but cinematography a little lacking. Overall I enjoyed it way more. They nixed the parental themes but all the other themes are stronger for it. Has a slightly happier ending than it should've but I suspect Haze coad shenanigans.
Third: Wikipedia summary of the novel hits harder than either movie!!
fourth: Book review coming soon (probably on my second blog) but OH MY GOD I AM PISSED THAT THE 2021 VERSION IS BASICLY JUST THE '47 VERSION plus some random "edgy" additions that kinda prove no one read the book because the stuff they add makes Stan seem like a way better person than he is in the book. and that's definitely not the right vibe for this story

No matter how much a person loves traveling, passage from one place to another can get uncomfortable. Moving on can feel tedious, like just another element in an already busy day (or week, or month, or year). Don’t ignore the help you’ve got though when the transitions get difficult. Look for the helpers, like Mr. Rogers said. Look for the little things, moments of kindness and beauty — and if you don’t see one, make one. Be the joy in the world for someone else. This process is thoughtful, of the mind, so what you think about your situation is critical. Others can’t think for you — or, rather, they can and will if you let them. So don’t let them. This is your journey. Where do you go next? Book Recommendations: More New Science Fiction
Meru by S.B. Divya
For five centuries, human life has been restricted to Earth, while posthuman descendants called alloys freely explore the galaxy. But when the Earthlike planet of Meru is discovered, two unlikely companions venture forth to test the habitability of this unoccupied new world and the future of human-alloy relations.
For Jayanthi, the adopted human child of alloy parents, it’s an opportunity to rectify the ancient reputation of her species as avaricious and destructive, and to give humanity a new place in the universe. For Vaha, Jayanthi’s alloy pilot, it’s a daunting yet irresistible adventure to find success as an individual.
As the journey challenges their resolve in unexpected ways, the two form a bond that only deepens with their time alone on Meru. But how can Jayanthi succeed at freeing humanity from its past when she and Vaha have been set up to fail?
Against all odds, hope is human, too.
This is the first volume in “The Alloy Era” series.
The Shattered Skies by John Birmingham
The Sturm, a group of "species purists" intent on destroying any human with genetic or cybernetic enhancements, returned from the far reaches of Dark Space to strike a devastating blow against humanity. Though their victory seemed inevitable, a small group of reluctant heroes managed to beat back the invading force. Now left with the remains of a crippled civilization, they must work together to rebuild--and to stand guard, in case those weren't the only enemies hiding in the dark...
This is the second volume in “The Cruel Stars” series.
Eversion by Alastair Reynolds
In the 1800s, a sailing ship crashes off the coast of Norway. In the 1900s, a Zepellin explores an icy canyon in Antarctica. In the far future, a spaceship sets out for an alien artifact. Each excursion goes horribly wrong. And on every journey, Dr. Silas Coade is the physician, but only Silas seems to realize that these events keep repeating themselves. And it's up to him to figure out why and how. And how to stop it all from happening again.
Invisible Things by Mat Johnson
When sociologist Nalini Jackson joins the SS Delany for the first manned mission to Jupiter, all she wants is a career opportunity: the chance to conduct the first field study of group dynamics on long-haul cryoships. But what she discovers instead is an entire city encased in a bubble on Europa, Jupiter's largest moon.
Even more unexpected, Nalini and the rest of the crew soon find themselves abducted and joining its captive population, forced to start new lives in a place called New Roanoke.
New Roanoke is a city riven by wealth inequality and governed by a feckless, predatory elite, its economy run on heedless consumption and income inequality. But in other ways it's different from the cities we already know: it's covered by an enormous dome, it's populated by alien abductees, and it happens to be terrorized by an invisible entity so disturbing that no one even dares acknowledge its existence.
Albuquerque chauffeur Chase Eubanks is pretty darn sure aliens stole his wife. People mock him for saying that, but he doesn't care who knows it. So when his philanthropist boss funds a top-secret rescue mission to save New Roanoke's abductees, Chase jumps at the chance to find her. The plan: Get the astronauts out and provide the population with the tech they need to escape this alien world. The reality: Nothing is ever simple when dealing with the complex, contradictory, and contrarian impulses of everyday earthlings.
This is a madcap, surreal adventure into a Jovian mirror world, one grappling with the same polarized politics, existential crises, and mass denialism that obsess and divide our own. Will New Roanoke survive? Will we?
We Won’t Be Here Tomorrow and Other Stories by Margaret Killjoy
Death cults, queer love, and the end of everything.

Margaret Killjoy’s stories have appeared for years in the science fiction and fantasy magazines both major and indie. Here, we have collected the best previously published work along with brand new material. Ranging in theme and tone, these imaginative tales bring the reader on a wild and moving ride. They’ll encounter a hacker who programs drones to troll CEOs into quitting; a group of LARPers who decide to live as orcs in the burned forests of Oregon; queer, teen love in a death cult; the terraforming of a climate-changed Earth; polyamorous love on an anarchist tea farm during the apocalypse; and much more. With all due respect, and regardless of 'warning' (about what btw?) we just have no choice but to reply to what is, at best case, a major misunderstanding and ignorance of situation. You choose whether to publish it or not, but we must explain things and make our position clear. "multiple independent reports" - how do you know it's not same person spamming accounts and fakes? Just takes a hour to make maybe 50 or 100 of them. If it's 3 people doing this - multiply by 3. How do you know it's not PCU drones that were ordered to suddenly start doing this at same time? Some of them may have old tumblr pages which look legit or active WoW accounts, after all, PCU drone is a WoW player too.
"You also insulted one of our editors, claiming they were "PCU scum" for putting your main invitation "bot" or however you use to automate your invitations on ignore." - none of our officers are aware of any situation like. While we indeed to send automated guild invites, that's just to speed up finding people we need (and we indeed find those who thank us for invite, such as victims of PCU or friends of somebody who PCU bullied out of WoW), however we always respect people's right to refuse, and it would make zero sense for any purpose to get toxic and try to offend them. Don't you think (can you?)? Also - Izanaxis is a horde character, while the guild is alliance. It is cross-faction, yes, however FastGuildInvite addon does not work if you run it on character of opposite faction. You could have checked it easily, big fail. Unless you think Izanaxis would just run to random people and spam /ginvite ? Cool, but even then - if somebody refuses - what is the point of getting toxic about it? The fake evidence you are spammed with tries to portray as like some crazy fanatics, when in fact we are reasonable people (in light of recent events I would say more reasonable than you).
"CoAD is not your personal army, nor are we your hammer to swing at others" - it is not, where did we say it is? "Anyone claiming to be CoAD in game is not CoAD" - none of us (of officers) ever claimed of being CoAD, where did you pull that from? All we did was trying to advertise your website in good faith, because we wanted more of actual WoW players know of it existence and even use it as their daily news source. We included it in guild info labeled as 'General news site', similar in some TRPs. Sometimes when people asked what is PCU we directed them to your site to read. That's it, we never claimed to be part of it, being editor of it or working together with it. But don't worry about that, after you backstabbed us like a rat for no reason (still not sure if on purpose or played by PCU like stupid kid) and then proceeded to, basically, harass and slander us with more lies, we won't mention you anywhere ever again. I should also mention that we actively sent you valuable evidence between 2019 and 2022, in good faith (not from this account, also I won't tell which evidence exactly but it did a big impact on the outcome of PCU situation). Of course proving anything like that would be too hard, but from now on expect interesting evidence avoiding you and being brought up by somebody else, somewhere else.
It's also very funny how you marked Hand of Conquest as 'inactive', while them having events with 15-20 online nearly every evening, most are also fully honor geared (which proves they play game actively on their HoC characters). Do your editors even play the game, or just read some guild statistics from outdated third-party site? At this point you are outright lying to your readers. Makes the whole list not trustworthy enough to even bother checking others. The whole 'PCU is dead' mantra is a big and very suspicious lie.
To sum up.
After careful consideration our council came to conclusion that COAD changed into something that can't be trusted anymore, became careless or, possibly, got corrupted by PCU (there could be agreement like 'as long as Perroy is out of WoW we will keep informing people that PCU is dead to keep situation calm'? who knows, after all you think of yourselves as those sneaky benevolent puppeteers who can decide what is better for realm and enforce it with lies if it achieves the goal). Therefore we part ways for now.
The only potential way to make it work is if you thoroughly examine each of your editors, especially new ones, investigate the whole situation with 'PCU dead' narrative, maybe start playing actual game? or at least make some bot that monitors in-game activity of guilds (via Who). Then make necessary adjustments and reach out to us. Haha, just kidding, of course you'll do nothing of that. Therefore it will be our last post, feel free to smear us with more lies if you want, those who are smart will see through them and also what kind of blog COAD has became. Have fun fading into obscurity in your little 'PCU is dead' bubble.

Aimed at COAD, PCU all Shitter Degens
I came back just to make this post so i can then dip again. Red Pill time: Yo im gon be real, i ain't played wow/RP'd on AD - wow in a year or two this is coming from somebody yall know i was part of RP Community for 8-9 years and coming back to see COAD/PCU posting makes me thankful I aint thankful because yall shittin on each other, I'm thankful because i ain't apart of that degen shit anymore, yall literally display the core definitition of "Failure to separate Character" and "OOC" you can't keep IC as IC and can't keep Warcraft as Warcraft. Yall literally RPing in a Fantasy game that dosen't exist thinking ur gaining +1 IQ from hunting each other over some nerdy ass online beef in a fantasy RP world that doesn't exist and it's goofy af to watch. Fr Imagine waking up, coming home from work and the first thing that crosses your mind isn't "Ayo, i should probably get some breakfast" or "Ayo I'm gon chill out, maybe hit "X" up to see what they're doing this weekend" it's the compulsive urge to hop online on some discord server or blog and post some degen post about something somebody's done in the past or has done at present on a fictional game. "H3h3h3 tyme to show the wurld haw bad these people awe!!!!" Literally the growing embodiment of late stage Psychosis, an inability to seperate the real world from a fantasy game to real life as to which said seperation contributes nothing to society or has any real life gains, RP gains or in game gains. You all need to touch grass i really feel for your all which is why i'm so thankful, most would argue "You can't say that I'm just passionate about the game and the community!!!" Which i get Wow RP/Lore is something I've always been a fan of and will continue to be a fan of and the community - nothing can compare. but let's be real this ain't passion it goes beyond that cancel me, come after me, report me, take what i say to heart, do what you gotta do i simply could not care - to tell you the truth, i couldn't give a shit, I'll always be real, so let's be real. What this is, is literally borderline obssessive autistic OOC beef that's developed into a full blown obsession in the community and an obssession between two distinct groups of people that simply do not like each other which is ultimately dividing yall and killing of said community which is why a lot of the OG's don't chill around anymore which in turn player after player follow suit. People make mistakes, people do shit things - sometimes those people do shit things intentionally and those mistakes aren't actually mistakes and it's a case of lil homies thinking their Jamal pulling out the 9's or they're "Him" when in real terms their actions gain them nothing in the community, nothing in RP, nothing in game - they're just some random ass goofy ass dude/girl in europe living rent free in somebody's head staring through a computer, rping in a game that dosen't exist as to which they have nothing to show for their actions in real life. The worse thing you can do is give these people attention, be it COAD, be it PCU be it some other shitter degen trying to make a name for themselves. When they realise how irrelevant they are and how less of a shit people give, they'll calm and check themselves. The take away from this if you are indeed a degen and have found this to be insulting, I'm afraid to inform you, you fr need to touch grass lil homie.

March 2024 Book Log
(bold means new this month)
Bosnia: A Short History by Noel Malcolm
Chronicles of Ancient Darkness Book 6: Ghost Hunter by Michelle Paver (reread, finished)
Crowded Volume 2: Glitter Dystopia by Sebela et al. (finished)
Dactyl Hill Squad by Daniel José Older (unfinished)
Dinosaur Summer by Greg Bear
Graceling by Kristin Cashore
Orochi Volume 2 by Kazou Umezz
Ranger's Apprentice Book 1: The Ruins of Gorlan by John Flanagan (reread, finished)
Ranger's Apprentice Book 2: The Burning Bridge by John Flanagan
So CoAD 6 and the first Ranger's Apprentice both got read in a single weekend each. This is strange for CoAD because book 5 took me several months, for some reason, despite being an embarrassingly slim book. I think once I finished 5 I was like "the end is in sight LET'S GO" and just took off. Also I had a dream after finishing book 5 that the series had been adapted into a movie and it sucked ass. I'm telling you, this series had a grip on my entire psyche. Felt a shaking sense of loss and nostalgia when I finally finished it, but then I remembered Paver wrote three more books in 2020. My diseases shall continue...
Now Ranger's Apprentice is a weird one, because I genuinely do not like this series, but I think it was the exact genre and/or brand of mediocrity that I needed at the time I picked it up. Both that series and Graceling are books I remember my high school friends reading and loving, and they actually have a lot in common. They're essentially reverse sides of the same coin: the coin that represents the state of YA fantasy in the 2000s. That is... Boy Fantasy (TM) ...and... Girl Fantasy (TM) (C) (R).
As always I could say a lot but I'll restrain myself. Neither of these books/subgenres are ones I particularly enjoy reading or writing, but it's for that precise reason (in addition their overall prevalence in the YA scene) that I'm drawn to them. I need to know how they tick. I need to pick them apart page by page.
My briefest review of Ranger's Apprentice is that it's possessed by the spirit of passive misogyny. That is to say, male characters far outnumber female, and the few women we do see are constantly measured by their attractiveness to male characters. Thus far, we've yet to meet any ladies who are framed as obnoxious or villainous because of their female traits (i.e. shrill, cunning, bossy, sexy-evil), but I wouldn't hold my breath. Insanely enough, I think I'd find that much less misogynistic than this bouquet of sweet-smelling Women (c) (TM) who are So Very Pretty and can Do No Wrong and Never Ever Say Anything Mean Whatsoever.
Also I always find it interesting when a series chooses to have the antagonist's supporting forces be largely composed of "stupid" monsters simply taking orders from a single Big Bad. Definitely a major characteristic to me of the "Boy Fantasy" genre. To me it automatically makes the story much more shallow. It takes a certain power away from the battles, because at that point you're not killing soldiers, you're disabling robots and racking up points. And it (deliberately and understandably so) removes any difficulties from the concept of killing, which takes the interesting edges off all these rugged warrior-men and turns them into a pack of two-dimensional action figures. This is the blonde one. This is the one who gets mad at other people. This is the fat one.
Oh. Do not get me started on the fatphobia in this series lmao.
Compare that to Graceling, where (chapter 1-level spoilers here) the main character is a girl gifted with superhuman strength, speed, and reflexes, making her an exceptional fighter and killer. Her uncle, the king, uses her as an assassin to punish those who've wronged him. She has a body count that would put half the cast in Ranger's Apprentice to shame, but she's not exactly proud of it the way they would be.
In fact, her feelings about herself and her powers are very complicated...she sees herself as a monster, a dog who works for her uncle. She tends to isolate herself from others in a way that comes across as conceit. For the most part, she is proud of her skills, partly because she's spent so much time honing them, and partly because she truly is better at what she does than basically anyone else alive. But she knows she's ruining lives for her uncle. She recognizes her enemies are people just like her, not campy villains or flat stereotypes. She understands that she isn't just taking a life or breaking a finger, she's effecting change that impacts the lives of everyone around them. For this, she resents her uncle, and she especially hates her inability to resist his commands. She can't imagine herself as anything other than an outcast because of her gift and her history.
That's not to say Graceling is without its own set of flaws, but I definitely take its story and characters more seriously than those of Ranger's Apprentice.
