we heard that you were very disappointed in us both as a generation and specifically as a generation of women (emphasis yours), how we had let ourselves go and now we were slutty and ill-tempered and holding onto notions of feminism like "having a savings account" and "equality."
we were very sorry about it, we didn't realize. it is very hard for you, in your life, because your entire definition was centered around the word providing, and that's a really vague and undulating word. it is hard to be a provider. for your purposes, the word provider here can be defined as "having a job", although it sometimes also extends to "doing yard work", "grilling on occasion," and "knowing basic car anatomy."
we had to do some reading but we divided it out. do not worry. high-value women will fill in the rest of the gaps of your life - all those silly feminine things like doing the dishes. we didn't realize we had asked too much when we asked you to pick up after yourself. we did not realize you were rendered small and scared and crying about the possibility of doing the laundry. here is a joke to lighten the sentiment: a man that listens when you talk to him.
we heard about how we had fallen from glory and it sickened us and made us very, very sad. lindsey had to cut all her hair off and tara threw up. we lit one million candles and we are going to have a vigil about it tonight. all of the people in this world that you do not approve of are going to be there and we will all be in mourning colors because we have lost your respect which is of course the only thing that any of us were looking for.
we searched around our bedrooms and our closets and for some of us it took a while but we all found the pricetag that we were originally born with, the one that gave our listing offer, the one that smells like rot and pine needles. we were horrified because many of us had taken deductions and hadn't realized it. i had scraped my knees and decided to be a lesbian so they had to take my voicebox out so i could never call home again. janice had been with too many people overall so we had to put her into the big squisher that will hopefully collapse her walls so that when you're with her, you'll feel so big and powerful. it will be like you're conquering something instead of being close with someone.
we are all going to the funeral of feminism and we will tear at our bodies and fall over ourselves. we will invite you onstage for a live recording of your podcast about the occasional minor inconvenience of self-reflection. you will talk about how we have targeted you and made you feel the sweat slick down your back, and we will teach you basic self-defense out of solidarity.
do not worry, we are seeing to all the outliers. taylor asked to be taken seriously so we have shipped her off to prison. laura asked you to accept her femininity regardless of her presentation. you will be happy to hear all women are now and forever going to have to be small and thin and pretty and white and ablebodied and quiet and unassuming and ladylike, which is different than how society has previously told us to act.
i am going to have to shave off my jawline, which is a little masculine, and they are going to have to reshape my hands, which are very square and thick - all the work i've done with them has made their veins stand out, so we're just going to have to exsanguinate me. i am horrified to have been out in public like this.
we are going to sit around the campfire and we will talk about being weird little girls that made potions in pink teacups. we will talk about the first time we made a difference. we will talk about the private lives of crickets, and then, at the stroke of three in the morning (the witching hour, obviously) - we will all promptly shut up.
and this will be your beautiful world. this silence that spans every corner of every street and every zoom meeting and every alley. i do not think you'll notice at first - it will be the same as every television show and movie and book. we will all just simply sit there in our doll dresses and smile blithely at your advances and none of us will do you the dishonor of answering and none of us will appear to be in distress and none of us will nag you or make a fuss or get hysterical about it. it will just be quiet, and you will say finally, some peace for once! and we will smell of smoke and our teeth will be white and the next day will come.
tonight we are going to bury the last little bits of our humanity. you are not invited. it is going to be ugly.

i'm trying to study angels. so many! bearing the violence! bearing the joy! i say trying because, well, they are everywhere and so often. do you have any resources on where/how to sink my teeth in first? i wonder also of the apocrypha. xoxo, dove
angels in the hebrew bible are less heavenly bodies and more "unfamiliar selves," extensions and embodies of yahwism. only later books, especially apocrypha, move into something less murky. my book recommendations on hebrew biblical angels—carlson's unfamiliar selves and the sbl panel it was presented at; walsh's angels associated with israel in the dss; ahuvia's on my right michael; mohr's rebellious angels (this one emph. apocrypha); papaioannou's earthly shadows; reiterer's celestial beings
#ask#ingrid lily's review of carlson's book is sooo#these are academic books but they are hospitable—the kind that normalize not just transliterate yk

Your headcanons on HIM’s diner: who goes there from the main cast, its star rating, HIM’s customer service, if HIM hires, etc.
Ahhhhh, the good ol' Otto Time Diner!
I'd love to hear your headcanons because, honestly, my only headcanon is that Him basically created the diner for the whole bit of messing with the girls that one day and shut down the restaurant after like two or three days. ...maybe he kept it open a bit longer and started giving people food poisoning for fun, but I just think he eventually got bored of it.
#him#maybe on the day after him convinced mojo to visit since he's a Yelp Elite reviewer and thought he could continue the business#if mojo gave it a good review#but then said eh screw it i wanna have fun and gave mojo straight up regular poisoning for the heck of it#and mojo's scathing 1-star review of the diner that he wrote while in the hospital forced it to close#and not that him minded but he just giggled and said well you win some you lose some and went off to whatever the next plan was

I know this sounds pretty hypocritical coming from someone who abandoned the sinking ship that is GH yet again, but uh, support Tabyana Ali as much as you can. She's going to need a lot of support until she can get the hell up outta there because I see no signs she's getting any support from tptb.
#general hospital#trina robinson#all white writers room#them basically giving her fuck all despite her rave reviews and fanbase#them turning spencer into another brenda basically#clipping her wings before even seriously giving her a chance to play solo trina#cause they're afraid she'll mess up a stale status quo that has them at .1 in the demo 🫣#the future is not bright over at GH#the jordan actress who called that show Generally White Hospital clocked it and we should have listened to her 🫣#good luck with that

Okay so finished book one and ugh spoiler free review as best as I can. First of all 9/10. I would say 10/10 but it’s very clear that this book is like set up to be a duology so like it’s very slow build with a lot of the meat of the story happening in the later half. Which just means that while the beginning is written beautifully is just a little bit meaty to get through cause there’s not that much going on plot wise.
Character wise though there’s a lot. Zhu is such a wonderful protagonist and narrator truly the way she sees the world is so vibrant and they have like an insane fairytale trickster energy to them that I adore. Also despite this not being like a clear genderqueer story (as in it’s not modern so that understanding of gender isn’t really said) she is such amazing representation and I related to her a lot! Her dialogue is so bright and vibrant and full of vitality even in the darker spots it’s great!
Meanwhile Ouyang is this wonderful foil. He’s so deep and angry and bitter and jaded and instead of it feeling like a slog to get through your chomping at the bit reading it. Great unreliable narrator I never knew entirely what he was thinking because even he was so conflicted about it. (For my TGCF girlies he’s extremely He Xuan coded and it’s great).
I can’t wait to see them interact more in the next book. I stand by my statement that their dynamic is gender euphoria sword fighting body dysmoria in a parking lot
Also Ma Xiuying you’re so wonderful and compassionate and angry and full of fire and life I am so so in love with you please yell at more people it’s so sexy of you. It’s so great to get a POV character that is just as intelligent as the other protagonists but while they are both cold thinkers she’s like full of empathy and emotion. I adore her I need more of her in the next book.
Also thank you Shelly Parker Chan for giving me two wonderful insane queer relationships I was surprised by the sex scene (if you know you know but good for her) but it was so well written and perfectly fit in with all the politics and scheming and war.
Anyway on to book 2 but if you haven’t read this yet you should it’s great!

The most gut wrenching, heart shattering, tear jerking, yet so amazingly beautiful fanfic I've read in my entire life (Haikyuu BokuAka)
I remember seeing this fanfiction mentioned on an Instagram reel like a week ago... Everyone was talking about how utterly and profoundly sad yet beautiful this fanfiction was.
I put it off for a little while because usually Major Character Death isn't my thing, and when I do read it it doesn't strike a chord like it's supposed to... but oh my GOD this hit me hard.
As one commenter said, roughly quoted,
"Reading this is both the best and worst decision I've made in my entire life."
The way everything is written is so BEAUTIFUL, all the little details, that even though I think my own fan fictions are tragic and I have made people cry myself... I don't think I'll reach THIS level.
Anyways, I am suffering and literally shaking right now from all the emotions this ONESHOT FANFIC. YES IT'S A ONESHOT AND STILL THIS AMAZING. made me feel, so I thought I'd share it to make someone else suffer yet marvel in awe with me too. :)

Review of "Tank Chair" by Manabu Yashiro
(T: Max Greenway, L: Evan Hayden, E: Maggie Le)
Power Fantasies come in lots of different forms. Sometimes they’re about becoming a world leader who can enact lasting change. Sometimes they’re being a big beefy hero with the ability to punch out hitler. Sometimes they’re attaching Boudica Spikes to your wheelchair and taking people out at the ankles for refusing to move out of the way. And when it comes to disabled-on-abled violence, Tank Chair provides one hell of a power fantasy! In a time where people are still claiming that wheelchairs don’t belong in fantasy, Tank Chair gives us a blood thirsty alternative where a wheelchair takes an already deadly assassin and gives them a high speed tank with extra knives.
Written and drawn by Manabu Yashiro, the series follows two siblings– Nagi and Shizuka Taira – as they make their way through a post-apocalyptic Japan. Nagi is an assassin who, after taking a bullet to the head protecting Shizuka, became comatose and unable to move from the waist down. However, he has a unique ability where he will come back to consciousness anytime he senses a deep desire to kill him. And thus begins Shizuka’s mission to find someone with such an intense desire to murder her beloved older brother, that he comes back around permanently.
As a mobility aid user, I was initially drawn to the series for rather obvious reasons. Cripple Punk has been around since 2014 but has rarely gotten any mainstream notice. Cripple Punk is the radical idea that disabled people are people, not just inspiration porn to get the ableds to go to the gym. No, “If Alice Tai can have her leg amputated and then win a gold medal 8 months later, what’s stopping you from doing it?” but rather “Holy FUCK how hard core is Alice Tai?! She got her leg removed and then swam 100m in 1 minute 13 seconds?!” Cripple Punk allows for disabled people to be loud, angry and visable. It allows us to misbehave and throw up the middle finger at those who try to fuck with our basic rights. It's been a long time coming that we’ve had a manga that helped embody this, and Tank Chair is off to a great start in reflecting this much needed aesthetic and attitude.
I was a little anxious when starting the series that it would fall into dangerous “vegetable” stereotypes where Nagi’s lack of consciousness is only played as a joke about taking away his agency and personality. However I was delighted to find that Nagi is still shown to have agency and choice in his situation. He does have some issues with a few of his sister’s choices of mission, but doesn’t appear to be too bothered and it comes across more as sibling banter than anything else. In fact, one of the best parts of the series so far is the relationship between the two siblings! It’s a surprisingly realistic one, where you do feel the genuine love they have for each other – even with some of the more fucked up dynamics at play. For example, how Shizuka is able to awaken Nagi by charging at him with a dagger and genuine pure intent to stab him in the neck. But hey, it’s a nice take on the Cain Instinct by taking the term back to its abrahamic fratricidal origins, rather than the usual cop out of just having siblings thwack each other with wrapping paper tubes.
Another concern I had was around the idea of them seeking a cure for Nagi. However the series makes it incredibly clear that the only thing the siblings are seeking is for Nagi to regain full consciousness, something definitely worth seeking! I was particularly happy to see Nagi explicitly say that he has found benefits in becoming a chair user! He sees it as a way of bettering his bond with those around him, and also who wouldn’t enjoy charging about in a personal murder tank?
In terms of design, I’d rather the chair take more inspiration from active sport chairs. Whilst I love that his sister has designed him multiple ones for different tasks and missions, his regular chair feels a little too passive in design despite all the awesome spikes. I do give credit for Nagi’s chair resembling actual wheelchairs, but it's formed around a very basic budget model. The square design and leg clamps might give it that Diesel Punk vibe, but I think the series should continue to embrace the Cripple Punk aesthetic more. In this case therefore, I think it would have been better for it to draw inspiration from the most Cripple Punk Sport in the word: Murder Ball. Also known as Wheelchair Rugby. Chairs for Murder Ball are built more like race karts, with solid steel structures and bumpers. Wheelchair Rugby is probably the most Cripple Punk Sport out there, given that it actively challenges the weak and helpless disabled person stereotype, but is also one of the few full contact mixed gender sports! It also proves to anyone who might think that Nagi’s antics are unrealistic that no – wheelchair users are fully capable of incredible stunts and outrageous blood lust.
I do have other concerns for the series. So far both disabled characters introduced – Nagi, and Touko Kurosaka – have been used as an instrument for murder. Even if they did choose to be Assasins, there’s still something inherently uncomfortable about how both characters are deliberately sent into action on their siblings orders. Touko in particular is a concern for me, given that she is way more presented as a tool of her brother’s than Nagi is. However, the bonus content at the end of volume one does give me a bit more hope that she will have her story expanded upon and given personality beyond “giant high school girl who can smash people with her fists”. I hope that the current toxic undertones of the Kurosakas’ relationship is just to emphasise the surprisingly loving and balanced relationship between the Taira Siblings.
On a final note, I’d like to give a shout out to Evan Hayden’s lettering. In my opinion they did an excellent job of matching the style throughout, allowing for a proper 1:1 experience whilst still maintaining Kodansha’s style guide of subtitling rather than completely touching them up. I particularly liked how on page 59, the subtitle was drawn in a way that combined the existing smoke trail to become the “I” of “Kill”.
I’m not usually a fan of excessive violence in manga. I’m not opposed to it, it’s just not for me. I gave Chainsaw Man 3 Volumes and decided that I preferred Fujumoto’s more person-focussed manga like Look Back. Yet I think the personal wish fulfilment of Tank Chair makes it so appealing to me! Whilst I would absolutely recommend it to fans of Chainsaw Man and Dorohedoro, I believe that fans of Run On Your New Legs and Real will also enjoy this athletic narrative of platonic relationships and adapting disabled life. I very much look forward to seeing where this series goes in the future, and hope that we get more Action Packed Cripple Punk series in the future!

this is your reminder that 99.9% of employers care more about money than you and even if they are kind and fair now they WILL at the end of the day put profits over your well being so absolutely do not sacrifice your life for them.

This is my filter, but I truly believe that when people frame friendships with other genders as a "waiting spot" for developing further romantic relationships, it really takes away from the quality of the actual friendship. After all, the best friendships are ones without ulterior motives, and when you genuinely care for each other.

Mitski Thrills Town Hall with Acoustic Take on New Album
Mitski – Town Hall – September 26, 2023
After some speculation that last year’s Laurel Hell might be Mitski’s final studio album, she delighted fans with the release of The Land Is Hospitable and So Are We earlier this month. She clarified to NPR, “I never intended to leave music … I decided to leave the industry for however long it would take for me to get my heart and soul back. But eventually, I kind of looked around and realized just how lucky I was to get to create the music I want to make and have my music reach other people.” To stamp her renewed outlook, the singer-songwriter embarked on the Amateur Mistake Intimate Shows, a four-city North American tour. The shift from the raucous production of Laurel Hell to the considerably quieter and meditative The Land Is lends to the more personal presentation of her work compared to her previous visit to Radio City Music Hall. As with the first show in Mexico City, Mitski played an acoustic set of her latest songs at a sold-out Town Hall on Tuesday night.
Running down the recent record in track order, Mitski began with its opening single, “Bug Like an Angel,” standing front and center at the mic bookended by a guitarist and a cellist. She provided a hearty hello to crowd and shared her history in the city with a story about writing “Class of 2013.” It was the year she graduated college, as well as the turning point when she decided to continue the dream of being a musician. A decade later she thanked New Yorkers for dreaming with her. The audience was rapt in the reverie of every quiver of her vocal delivery, while Mitski slowly incorporated gestures to emphasize her lyrics, from outstretched arms for “I Don’t Like My Mind” to a raised arm cue upon the lyrics “clap for me in the dark” on “When Memories Snow.”
Performing “My Love Mine All Mine” to the rafters felt like an opera singer unraveling. However, delivering the final track, “I Love Me After You,” bent over and then culminating in a lounging position brought the hall to a standing ovation. As a reward of appreciation, Mitski continued with a couple more songs from her back catalog welcoming folks to sing along. One ardent fan scream from the balcony upon the first few chords of “Francis Forever” and everyone else in the room commenced singing. After the trio of older favorites “I Bet on Losing Dogs,” the infectious “Love Me More” and the melancholic “A Pearl,” Mitski returned solo with an acoustic guitar to encore with “A Burning Hill” and a cover of Peter La Farge’s “Coyote, My Little Brother.” —Sharlene Chiu | @Shar0ck
