Hello Crowley! I want you to know how much I ADORE you! *stares with bit cheesy grin and heart eyes*
Um...um...how 'bout some gardening advice?
Gardening advice...
Right, well. First off, NEVER talk to your plants the way you just addressed me. Individuals with overly soft hearts will baby plants and actually love them to death! *Mutters* No angels mentioned.
Best advice is to learn wot yer plants need and do yer best to provide the BARE MINIMUM care required to keep them alive. If they make it through the fallow season in yer area then you can give 'em a little treat of some plant food, (I give mine a sprinkle of epsom salts).
Put cactuses and succulents in terra cotta plants. Don't put ferns in terra cotta pots. Learn your companion plants and let them keep themselves company so you don't have to. Then let them sort it out!
I repeat! DO. NOT. BABY. PLANTS! If you're all *clearly mocking Zira's accent* Oooh Look at you, you absolute darling clamatis! You've done a beautiful job climbing this fense. Your blooms are simply stunning..." *returns to his own voice! Yeerch. Look, you're praisin' it for NOTHING! That's a plant's whole deal is to grow. That's like, the very basic thing a plant's gonna do. How'd you feel if some sappy wanker came over and started saying "Ohh Wonderful job processing oxygen into carbon dioxide, Soliel. You should be very proud of yourself. You're breathing so well!"
You'd think that twit wos completely bent and you'd be right to think so. Best case scenario would be you only lose yer plants' respect. Worst case scenario you convince them they're not expected to grow and flower or wotnot. They'll think it's a special thing they can withhold from you. Plants aren't smart. They'll wither up and die for lack of clear direction.
Sometimes they just do that anyway, so prepare yourself for inevitable plant loss. Conditions change from place to place and sometimes it's hard to know exactly wot their bloody problem is before it's too late. Some places just CAN'T accommodate certain plants because they don't get enough of the right kind of light, or the soil is just wrong, or the temperature isn't consistent enough.
If you get a plant from a place you don't fully trust (such as literally ANY supermarket) then isolate that little bastard from the other plants or they'll spread horrible pestilence to your crop. New plants are--ugh-- sEnSiTiVe so don't yell at them too hard for at least a week. After that, let'em know the score.
Anyway,
Good question, and best of luck in your future plant terrorism.

The Benefits of Buying Plants from a Local Nursery
Gardening is more than just a hobby; it’s a way to connect with nature, enhance the beauty of your surroundings, and contribute to a healthier environment. While there are many places to purchase plants, buying from a local plants nursery offers unique benefits that go beyond just acquiring greenery. In this comprehensive guide, we delve into the numerous benefits of buying plants from a local nursery, and why it’s a choice that benefits both you and the community.
Supporting Local Economy and Community
Economic Support: When you buy plants locally, you support small businesses and the local economy. Local nurseries often employ people from the community, contributing to local job creation and economic stability. This local spending helps keep money within the community, fostering economic growth.
Personalized Service: Local plants nurseries are known for their personalized customer service. The staff is often passionate and knowledgeable about plants, providing expert advice tailored to your specific needs and local growing conditions. This personalized attention ensures you make informed decisions about the best plants for your garden.
Community Engagement: Local nurseries often participate in community events, workshops, and educational programs. Buying plants locally allows you to engage with these activities, learning more about gardening, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.
Higher Quality Plants and Better Selection
Healthier Plants: Local nurseries tend to offer higher quality plants that are well-suited to the local climate and soil conditions. The plants are often grown on-site or sourced from local growers, reducing the stress and shock that can occur during long-distance shipping.
Diverse Selection: Local plants nurseries typically have a diverse selection of plants, including native species and unique varieties that may not be available at larger chain stores. This variety allows you to create a garden that is both beautiful and ecologically beneficial.
Acclimated Plants: Plants from local nurseries are acclimated to the local environment. This means they are more likely to thrive in your garden, requiring less maintenance and reducing the need for chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
Environmental Benefits
Reduced Carbon Footprint: Buying plants locally reduces the carbon footprint associated with transporting plants over long distances. This reduction in transportation emissions is a significant environmental benefit, contributing to cleaner air and a healthier planet.
Promoting Biodiversity: Local nurseries often carry native plants that support local wildlife, including pollinators like bees and butterflies. By choosing native plants, you help promote biodiversity and create a habitat for local fauna.
Sustainable Gardening: Local nurseries typically emphasize sustainable gardening practices. They may offer organic plants, eco-friendly products, and advice on water conservation and soil health. Supporting these practices contributes to a more sustainable and resilient gardening ecosystem.

Jasper Warrington - A Bridgerton OC
Face claim: Tom Sturridge
Name: Viscount Jasper Warrington
Age: 28
Sexuality: Bisexual
Appearance: Jasper carries a quiet intensity about him, with dark, soulful eyes and sharp features that exude mystery. His dark, tousled hair gives him a slightly unpolished edge, contrasting with the expected polished look of the ton. Despite this, he always dresses impeccably, preferring understated but expensive attire—tailored suits in dark tones, with minimal embellishment. His expression often seems contemplative, as though his mind is elsewhere, giving him an air of aloofness that intrigues those around him.
Personality: Jasper is reserved and calculating, a man of few words, but when he speaks, it’s with purpose and intellect. He’s known for his sharp wit and dry humor, often surprising others with his cutting remarks. Beneath his composed exterior, there’s a certain intensity—an inner turmoil that he hides from the world. He’s loyal to his family but has a complicated relationship with his title, seeing the viscountcy more as a burden than a privilege.
He is a protector, both of his family and estate, and though he may appear aloof, he cares deeply for those in his circle. His sense of duty drives him, but there’s always a lingering sense that he’s searching for something more, something deeper in life. This makes him less interested in the social niceties of the ton, though he fulfills his duties with grace when required.
Backstory:
Jasper inherited the title of viscount at a young age after his father’s sudden death. This forced him into a role he wasn’t fully prepared for, leaving him with a heavy sense of responsibility. He’s spent years managing his family’s estate, Warrington Hall, and ensuring that his siblings are well cared for. His mother, Lady Warrington, is a social butterfly who insists on maintaining the family's status, pushing Jasper into the spotlight even when he would rather be left alone.
In the years since, he’s become somewhat of an enigma in high society. He’s been courted by many, but remains unattached, gaining a reputation as a distant, unattainable bachelor. There’s speculation about his past—some say he had his heart broken once, others that he’s simply too consumed by his duties. In truth, he feels out of place in the glittering world of balls and gossip, more at home in his estate’s library or overseeing his lands.
Quirks:
Jasper is an avid reader, particularly of philosophy and poetry, which fuels his introspective nature.
He has a habit of disappearing for long walks on his estate, where he finds peace in solitude.
Despite his detached demeanor, Jasper is a skilled dancer, though he rarely partakes unless forced.
Fun Facts about Jasper:
1. Secret Poet: Jasper has a hidden talent for poetry, often writing verses in the quiet of his library. He enjoys capturing his thoughts and emotions in words, although he keeps this hobby private, fearing it would be seen as too vulnerable for a viscount.
2. Expert Horseman: He is an exceptional rider and spends much of his free time horseback riding across the estate. This is one of the few activities that brings him genuine joy and allows him to escape the pressures of his title.
3. Passionate Gardener: Jasper has a fascination with horticulture and tends to a secret garden on the estate where he cultivates rare flowers and herbs. This pastime provides him with a sense of peace and fulfillment away from social obligations.
4. Collector of Curiosities: He has a growing collection of curiosities, such as rare books, maps, and trinkets from his travels. Each item has a story that he enjoys sharing with those he trusts, though most of society remains unaware of this side of him.
5. Master of Disguise: Jasper has a penchant for disguising himself to sneak out of the estate and explore the nearby village. He relishes the freedom of being just another man instead of a viscount, enjoying the thrill of anonymity.
6. History Buff: He has a deep interest in history, particularly the histories of noble families in England. This knowledge often comes in handy during social gatherings, where he can discuss lineage and heritage with ease.
7. Chess Enthusiast: He is an avid chess player, often playing matches against himself to hone his strategic thinking. He finds the game to be a great mental exercise and enjoys the challenge of outsmarting an opponent.
8.. Lover of Music: Jasper secretly enjoys playing the piano and often composes melodies inspired by his poetry. While he doesn’t perform in public, he finds solace in music and often plays during quiet evenings at home.
9. Animal Lover: He has a soft spot for animals, particularly dogs. Jasper has a loyal hound that accompanies him on walks and serves as a comforting presence during lonely times.
Likes and Dislikes:
Likes:
1. Nature: Jasper enjoys spending time outdoors, whether it's riding his horse through the estate or tending to his secret garden. Nature provides him with a sense of peace and a break from societal pressures.
2. Literature: He has a passion for reading, especially classic literature and poetry. He often loses himself in books, finding inspiration and solace in the written word.
3. Quiet Evenings: Jasper prefers quiet evenings at home, where he can indulge in his hobbies, such as writing poetry or playing the piano. These moments allow him to recharge away from the bustling social scene.
4. Intellectual Conversations: He enjoys engaging in deep discussions about philosophy, history, and art. Jasper appreciates people who challenge his thoughts and offer different perspectives.
5. Animals: Jasper loves animals, particularly dogs. He finds comfort in their companionship and enjoys taking long walks with his hound.
6. Art: He appreciates art, especially landscapes and portraits that capture emotion. Jasper often visits galleries and enjoys learning about different artists and their works.
7. Travel: He has a desire to explore new places and experience different cultures, though his responsibilities often keep him at home. He dreams of traveling to Italy and France to see the art and history he admires.
Dislikes:
1. Superficiality: Jasper has little patience for shallow conversations and those who prioritize status over substance. He prefers genuine connections and dislikes the pretentiousness often found in high society.
2. Social Expectations: He resents the pressure to conform to societal norms and expectations, particularly when it comes to marriage and networking. This pressure makes him feel trapped.
3. Conflict: Jasper dislikes confrontations and avoids them whenever possible. He prefers to resolve issues through calm discussion rather than heated arguments.
4. Overindulgence: He has little tolerance for excessive behavior, whether it's lavish parties or ostentatious displays of wealth. Jasper values moderation and simplicity.
5. Manipulation: Jasper dislikes those who manipulate others for personal gain, whether in business or relationships. He believes in honesty and integrity, which makes him wary of deceitful individuals.
6. Disrespect: He cannot stand rudeness or disrespect towards others, especially those in lower social standings. Jasper values kindness and fairness in all interactions.
7. Being the Center of Attention: Despite his title, Jasper prefers to stay out of the spotlight. He finds large gatherings overwhelming and would rather blend in than be the focal point.
8. Neglecting Responsibilities: He is frustrated by those who fail to take their duties seriously, whether in family, society, or work. Jasper believes in accountability and often feels burdened by his own responsibilities.
Family
Lady Warrington (Mother):
Name: Lady Helena Warrington
Personality: Lady Helena is the epitome of grace, poise, and determination. She thrives in high society and is known for her sharp mind and exceptional skill at maneuvering through the complex social circles of the ton. After the death of her husband, she took it upon herself to uphold the family’s reputation and push her children toward advantageous matches.
Relationship with Jasper: While Lady Warrington loves her son deeply, there is a certain distance between them. She has high expectations for Jasper, believing that his role as viscount comes with obligations—both to the family and to society. She wants him to marry well and is constantly urging him to take a more active role in the social scene. Jasper, in turn, respects his mother, but their relationship is strained by their differing views on duty and personal happiness. Lady Helena often wishes he would embrace his position more enthusiastically and find joy in the social graces that she values so much.
Deceased Father (Former Viscount):
Name: Viscount Thomas Warrington
Personality and Legacy: Thomas was a man of honor and duty, widely respected for his leadership and the way he managed the family estate. He was strict but fair, and his sudden death left a heavy weight on Jasper’s shoulders, as Jasper was thrust into the role of viscount without much preparation. Though he was not emotionally close to his children, his presence was commanding, and Jasper has always felt the pressure of living up to his father’s legacy.
Impact on Jasper: The death of his father is one of the main reasons for Jasper’s aloofness and serious nature. He was forced to grow up quickly and take on responsibilities before he was ready, leading to his more somber outlook on life. Jasper often feels like he’s living in his father’s shadow, constantly measuring himself against the man who left such big shoes to fill.
Siblings:
1. Isabel Warrington (Younger Sister):
Age: 22
Personality: Isabel is the opposite of Jasper—bright, lively, and eager to enjoy everything society has to offer. She’s charming and outgoing, a favorite at balls and social events. Despite her lighthearted demeanor, Isabel is intelligent and capable of holding her own in the intricate social games of the ton. She has a strong relationship with their mother and enjoys being involved in the family’s social ambitions.
Relationship with Jasper: Isabel and Jasper have a close, though sometimes tense, sibling relationship. She often feels smothered by his protectiveness and sense of duty, and while she loves him, she doesn’t fully understand his reluctance to embrace the life they’ve been given. Jasper, on the other hand, feels it’s his responsibility to keep her from making impulsive decisions, leading to occasional clashes between the two. Despite their differences, Jasper admires Isabel’s courage and independence, even if he doesn’t always show it.
2. Edward Warrington (Younger Brother):
Age: 19
Personality: Edward is still coming into his own, balancing the expectations of his title with the desire to live a more carefree life. He’s more easygoing than Jasper and prefers not to take life too seriously. Edward is charming, quick-witted, and occasionally reckless, often getting into trouble or shirking his responsibilities. He has a mischievous streak, which can cause tension with Jasper, who views him as too cavalier.
Relationship with Jasper: Jasper often feels like he’s acting as both a brother and father figure to Edward, which creates tension. Jasper’s strictness and high expectations frustrate Edward, who wants to carve his own path and resist the pressure of becoming a "perfect" gentleman. However, Edward deeply respects his brother’s intelligence and strength, even if he’s too stubborn to admit it. Jasper, meanwhile, is protective of Edward but struggles to show affection, often masking his concern with stern lectures.
Family Estate (Warrington Hall):
The family’s ancestral home, Warrington Hall, is a sprawling estate with vast lands, gardens, and stables. It’s where Jasper feels most at peace, away from the pressures of society. He has a deep connection to the land and the people who work it, often spending time overseeing the estate’s operations personally. To him, the estate represents the heart of his family’s legacy and his duty as viscount. For Lady Warrington and Isabel, it’s a symbol of their status, while Edward sees it as more of a burden, wanting to escape the weight of such responsibility.
Family Dynamics:
The Warringtons are well-respected and well-established in high society. Known for their generational wealth and prominence, they have no financial struggles, which makes them influential within the ton. Lady Warrington is constantly trying to elevate their status further by encouraging Jasper to make influential connections, especially through marriage.
Their wealth is significant, ensuring they live comfortably without the need for Jasper to worry about the estate’s finances. Instead, Jasper’s concern is more about maintaining their legacy and upholding the family’s reputation.

Worldbuilding: Governments and Social Organization
So, again, relying on Mr. D's classes from High School, Mr. B's classes on world history, My classes from American history, and Anthropology classes, I'm doing a rough rundown, cross correlating with subsistence systems and telling you...
DID YOU MAKE A MAP YET? MAKE A MAP. I HAVE TUTORIALS< BOTH GRAPHICAL AND GEOGRAPHY. MAKE A MAPPPPP. What? Only of one continent? No, make a map OF THE ENTIRE THING. Geopolitical and trade will shape a lot of how your governments and people/creatures will interact. If you're arguing with me that you don't need to, let me reiterate back to you about the silk road, that Homo Erectus traveled and did trade across large distances, and you're arguing to me that homo sapiens sapiens are less evolved than Homo Erectus and will not travel, and that a CULTURE you are building has NO cooperation? Oh, c'mon. How is it a culture then?
I'd highly recommend you go through the basics of at least geography, subsistence [link] and economics, if you want to create a government. A government is regulation over culture as well as a product of it. This is why it's always near to last in classes. You need to understand everything else before you can understand government.
Some Basics:
This series is pretty good run down on ideas of politics. He goes over ranked voting too.
youtube
And I'd also recommend the old classics of 26 Strategems, The Art of War and The Prince by Machiavelli.
Types of Socio-Cultural Integration
Bands
A loose group of people usually anywhere from 5 to 30-50 people. There is no ranking in a band, everyone is equal. There might be an elder that tells where people need to go, but one can separate from the band at will without great friction.
Examples (Historical?) Kung! (Africa).
https://www.britannica.com/topic/band-kinship-group#:~:text=band%2C%20in%20anthropology%2C%20a%20notional,care%20for%20children%20and%20elders.
Tribes
An organized group of people based on mostly family groups by descent. These groups are mostly horticultural or pastoral. The tribal leader will often need charisma in order to keep their position. The leader is often called a "Big Man" https://socialsci.libretexts.org/Bookshelves/Anthropology/Cultural_Anthropology/Cultural_Anthropology_(Saneda)/02%3A_Social_Institutions/2.06%3A_Political_Organizations
Chiefdoms
These are usually ranked with a social hierarchy. These usually do horticulture or agriculture. See previous link for more details.
States
Usually a stratified society that claims an area of land as their own that does either transitional agriculture, agriculture or industrialization. There are rich and poor in this system.
Types of Political Integration
Egalitarian means that people within the political organization are seen as mostly equal.
Ranked means there are some differences in power and access to power within the political organization.
Stratification means that it is near to impossible to rise out of the political organization because identities, etc are told to be more or less worthy.
How Socio-Cultural Integration and Political Integration corresponds to Subsistence Systems
Forager
The government type are bands.
Bands are a group of people, usually a family group that can be of any size. from a few individuals to 500.
Bands follow patterns of food, so may follow seasonal migratory rules.
The case study usually given in Anthropology classes are Kung!
Sometimes bands can also be more settled in an areas in the contemporary age.
Migratory groups are often hated by Agricultural groups. Sometimes these are called informally "troupes"
One thing that's important to note is that foragers do have a sense of copyright. So yes, plagiarism and copyriht don't disappear just because you have a more informal system.
Bands are called in Anthropology "egalitarian" meaning that everyone does equal share of the labor, despite gender, etc.
The biggest feature of bands is that a person can leave them if they dislike the group. Also, in bands of this type, it's really hard to start warfare, but it's also equally more difficult to make permanent structures.
I should note that anthropology does not state you can't figure out the existence of such groups either from the record–which might be what you're thinking. Fire pits, bone piles, and evidence for well-tread paths can show this sort of thing. And hominins, in general, can be traced back as using fire way back when.
https://www.britannica.com/topic/band-kinship-group#:~:text=band%2C%20in%20anthropology%2C%20a%20notional,care%20for%20children%20and%20elders.
Rich Forager
These can be Bands, or Chiefdoms.
Usually the social organization type is called "ranked"
Horticulture
Usually only chiefdoms. May occasionally result in a confederation of chiefdoms as well.
Agriculture
Stratified
State
Industrialist
Stratified
State
So the higher the social organization, the more likely there will be disparity in wealth and a loss of rights for a given group. The scape goat group if you'd like.
Right-Left Ideology
Is specifically French, though it's spread elsewhere. It's useful to think carefully about this.
Radical, left moderate, moderate, moderate right, reactionary
This is the chart that one of my teachers, Mr. Bailey drew for me probably Ninth grade class on Governments. That said, people confuse reactionary and radical as governmental terms.
If you want more detail on political ideology I'd read on:
https://blogs.baruch.cuny.edu/luc/2009/11/rethinking-political-ideologies/
Since it's evolved since then, and it's good to think about more ways to think on a problem.
But if you want to faff around and procrastinate you can take this quiz for each of your characters.
https://www.politicalcompass.org/test
A Basic List of governments
Of course there is...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_forms_of_government
But it mixes Tribes with Chiefdoms which isn't the same thing and gets it wrong. (Doesn't have a reference.
Here: https://laulima.hawaii.edu/access/content/user/millerg/ANTH_151/Anth151Unit2/TribesChiefdoms.html
And its missing things like a gerontocracy. This was found in places like Sparta.
And the really cool Witan System from early Britain--where lineage passed through King's brother.
I listed the ones that Anthropologists tend to focus on, but I think instead of copy-pasting, one can do a mix and match, because often in real life it is messier than it is on academic paper.
For example, in Great Britian, There is a monarch, who sorta holds power, and then there are Nobles who inherit the position--that's the upper house, but there is also the lower house which is elected.
These are not the same system of government into one, are they?
These are Monarchy, appointed council, and a representative democracy.
But there is also Jury duty, which is none of these. It's a Demarchy, which BTW, was Athens (for those paying attention in class) though it was a mixed system as well. (and limited because ot everyone could be a part of it.)
This means you need to figure out the system of government, who can participate in it (by age limits and social stratification), and if you have different systems going at once, how they work. who has the better of whom, and why.
Some things people get wrong about Fascism
I am not pro fascist, by a long shot. In the political spectrum, I'm more liberal than Gandhi. However, I think it's fair to go over what fascism is and isn't and why it was so seductive for so many *checks* White suffragettes. Ah, yes, the people who wanted to give women freedom also wanted to go back and take it all away.
The basic story of fascism is also an exercise into understand how governments also gain and lose support.
Fascism was pro-middle class and through this, this is why a lot of middle class women fell for it.
"Pawns for Fascism—Our Lower Middle Class
REINHOLD NIEBUHR"
Characteristics of Fascism:
And the US, UK, Canada, NZ and Australia are...
Representative democracy with a social capitalist system. Partial representative democracy at that due to stratification.
How to be more creative with your political systems
Straight Monarchy is boring. !@#$ Feudal Monarchy without twists is even more boring. Copy-pasting your government system without actually understanding it is just lazy. Fine, maybe your world doesn't really concentrate on these things and you don't want to think about it, but this is Science Fiction gold and ways to make alien races seem more incredible. (Though I'm still sick of the OMG, they sacrifice on an alien planet and can't figure out the advanced tech they have on it in a fit of repurposed saviorism)
Prison System
You do not have to have an insitutionalized prison system that oddly looks a lot like slavery. You have magic, advanced science, etc. PLAY with the morality. This is like 95% of Historical, SF and Fantasy~~? C'mon.
But. but Medieval Europe--unless your world is literally Medieval Europe, you do not have to do all of the torture, hangings, beheadings, burnings, crushings that Medieval Europe did.
As said earlier, how are you going to combine systems that seem so different, and then get them to work together? Maybe your country is so old, that the family unit works on a Matriarchy, but your government works on a Patriarchy. How do the citizens justify that to themselves, versus the real reasons behind it?
Governments Lie
History is retconned and lied about ALL of the time, so think about how the government is legitimizing itself to the people. (yes, we're getting into the political theory of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_contract )
What is its propaganda machine?
That government had nuclear bombs and will kill us all?
That country attacked us which is the excuse we need to enter WWII
But we rescued South Korea from Communism and didn't crush the unions there and set up sex slavery camps.
But women are too weak to understand law and should be doing much easier tasks like giving birth to children.
Figure out where your government is lying, telling the truth, stretching the truth to give maybe the elites what they want.
How is the past being told?
Who got to write the history and why did they get to write it? How much of the history was censored, banned, or otherwise forgotten? Are there methods of storing it? Who gets to learn the history and hand it down?
Judicial System
Often the Judicial system is a court system which is like a jury or a judge and then they are sent off to prison for an amount of time and tortured, often in a prison without a toilet (effing, damn, where is the chamberpot in any of those historical, SF or Fantasy movies? Are you that inhumane? Give the people a toilet?)
But you can be more creative with this one too. YOU have MAGIC and advanced tech and you can't think of ANYTHING you could do to try to find out the truth and then maybe find ways to screw it all up because of a loophole?
Laws
Laws often:
• Go out of date.
As in the reason for them no longer exists.
https://www.tehachapinews.com/lifestyle/ride-the-winds-strange-outdated-horse-laws/article_b56f537d-0909-5cff-9614-7acb1a36a7a9.html
Here are a bunch about horses...
• Are sometimes for obvious things.
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/did-the-people-of-middles_b_7129084
There were laws for not throwing out your excrements out of windows, for example.
Laws for buckling your seatbelt.
Wearing a helmet on a bike.
• Can seem mind numbingly WTF level.
https://www.tasteofhome.com/collection/we-found-weird-laws-about-food-from-every-state/
https://www.thelawyerportal.com/blog/unbelievably-weird-laws-in-america-that-still-exist/
• Are always in *reaction* to something someone did back in time that pissed everyone off.
https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2022-10-04/berkeley-anti-karen-law-discriminatory-911-calls-illegal-caren-act
Such as the anti-Karen laws.
• In a Democracy are incredibly slow to be ratified and then eventually implemented.
2018, the term Karen was around, but it wasn't until 2022, the law was ratified.
youtube
You know I was going to post this one, didn't you?
• Have no guarantee of being enforced.
https://www.legalzoom.com/articles/top-craziest-laws-still-on-the-books
• Aren't always agreed upon
Abortion for example.
• Aren't always well-known by the general public.
Do you know any of the new laws passed or on the floor in the last few months? Years? Often laws need publicity.
So if you're making up rules to govern society, you can always consider if you should make them all pratical to your characters--which are they challenging, which give them a headache, which do they wish were enforced? And what are they doing about it or not doing about it? Are there laws long overdue to be made, or are there ones passed and enforced suddenly they want to challenge?
You might think this is a minor thing, but I think also, often TV shows and the like make it too tidy and too much like our world. I mean, Gulliver's Travels, anyone? There were a ton of silly laws in that book.
Conclusion
Basically I'm begging you to do something more creative than a straight Monarchy. Have mixed system. Have governments within governments.
Have people who might Iunno, be nomads who have a council of elders. (Gerontocracy Oligarchy) but live under the thumb of a government that refuses to recognize/oppresses them.
Maybe the people that judge everyone are appointed to the position.
Maybe the meritocracy is broken?
Maybe it a mediocracy?
Maybe it's a mediacracy?
I'm asking you to make it engaging if you're focusing on it. Also, there are such things as transitional governments where the point of the story is to debate and think and philosophize about the best system of government.
After you create ALL of that. Your job as a writer is to tear the whole thing down and show its flaws. And that is great political writing right there.
Last little thing, again, I'd say read Sun Tzu's the Art of War and Machiavelli's Prince. If you can stomach Samuel Adams, Jean Jacques Rousseau, etc I'd also read those political theorists. (I con't with Kant though... spelling intentional).
Three more to go in this series. Ah... the clothing one is going to be tricky since I'm limited to 30 images...

Laios and Senshi bond over the experience, and Senshi asks to join their expedition.

Welcome to Moon Siren Horticulture! - Morpheus x Witch!Reader
[MASTERLIST] | [Sandman-inspired playlist]
SUMMARY: Running a plant shop known among deities and occultists just can not be a simple job. One day, the strangest client shows up looking for a remedy for a curse.
WORDCOUNT: ~ 1.5k
Dirty hands, strong smells that gave you a perpetual migraine, cuts from thorns all over your hands - running a horticulture store was a physically demanding job that became only more challenging when one considered a clientele of occultists, deities and pure madmen. The other side of the coin was the curious and hardly practical methods of payment you so often received like phoenix feathers, dragon scales, mermaid tears or sasquatch fur (you were never quite convinced about the authenticity of that one). Despite having no use for them, you had kept the strange artefacts patrons of the store had given you. It seemed like the more responsible thing to do rather than abandon them in the middle of nowhere for regular people to find.
The doorbell rang when you were repotting some plants. A heavy sigh left your lips - you didn’t want to leave your little maintenance task unfinished but you knew better than to make deities o cultists wait. As you had learned quite early on, sacrifices made one quite impatient if not entitled.
“Don’t go anywhere, I’ll be back in a bit,” you said to the plant. The stems and leaves waved in a disturbingly intelligent manner as though they had a mind of their own.
Rushing through the spacious greenhouse, you were frantically wiping your dirty hands on the thick apron you wore to work, although the dirt under your fingernails seemed humorously unimportant when it came to the entirety of your appearance - no matter how clean your hands could be, dust and leaves were still in your hair and your clothes reeked of nitrophosphate. Despite being unpleasant, you had a burning suspicion that it only added to your ‘strange plant expert’ image.
The man at the counter appeared about as bizarre as he looked charming. His dark hair was dishevelled as though he had only just woken up from a deep slumber. The black coat, if the night sky could ever be sawn into a garment, stood in contrast to his pasty skin. The stranger was quite thin, making his head look disproportionately big compared to the rest of his body. His protruding cheekbones contributed to his already quite strict demeanour. A raven’s croak resounded in the small shopping area of your store.
"Welcome to the Moon Siren Horticulture!” you exclaimed with a smile known only to people who had worked retail at least once in their life. “How can I help you?"
His glistening eyes of deep blue, a starry sky reflecting in a raging sea, stared at you with a disturbing lack of emotion. "I wish to lift a curse,” he said in a low voice. Paradoxically, the brooding ones were generally more pleasant than the giddy ones - mainly because they had a tendency to keep their thoughts to themselves.
"Of course, sir but I must ask: are you sure it's a curse?” you asked him in the most polite tone you could muster. Gods were often proud but rarely were they bright.
"Do not question me,” he warned you slowly.
Without a falter in your polite smile, you continued your inquiry: "Then tell me about this curse."
“A young boy,” he began in a breathy, low voice, “who’s neither asleep nor awake. He can not eat or drink and yet his body withers. His mind resides between life and death, inside a void between realms.”
You nodded to yourself. "Yes, I'm afraid it is a curse. A minor one, more of a hex but on a child nonetheless…” A shudder run through your body as you felt your skin crawl. "I’m sorry for being impolite. You have no idea how many old deities come through this door every day and talk about curses when they mean a common cold. Apparently, when people stop worshipping gods, the gods begin to lose their holy powers and need to wear scarves during colder months. Who would have thought?"
The sound of talons clicking against a clay pot swayed your attention. Looking away from the brooding patron, you saw the raven nip at a bell-shaped indigo flower with a golden stalk. The moment its beak touched the petals, the bird croaked loudly and jumped away from the plant.
"That's a Gilded Dendra, very poisonous. Turns your blood black. A truly horrible way to die,” you warned him. Disappearing into the greenhouse in the back of the store, you added: “You don't want to touch it, little friend!"
“Little friend? I’m kind of offended but I kind of like it,” Matthew bemurmured. “Hey, what’s a ‘moon siren’?” he asked loudly, partially expecting Morpheus to be the one who answers him.
“It’s not anything in particular,” you called back from the greenhouse. Grabbing the right pot, you were making your way back to the front of the store: “My grandfather was a sailor and had a tattoo of a siren sitting on a moon on his forearm. His wife, my grandmother, absolutely despised that tattoo, so when he passed away, she renamed the store in his memory.”
The clay pot settled on the counter with a muffled thud.
“What about this one?” the raven croaked. He was sitting on a branch of a small tree, or a big bush, with round, gold-coloured berries that looked a little too shiny and metallic to be considered ingestible. “Death by ambrosia?”
“This is Amberberry, safe to eat. It tastes like beetroot and honey. Some say they can also taste mint. Go on, have a few.” Your shoulders shrugged with disinterest. It was safe to say that working at a store that was fairly popular among the strange and divine, you were quite used to the ruckus. Redirecting your attention back to the strict-faced man, you presented him the plant you had just brought: "Long Verecund, Humilus Proceria. Often called Witch's Remedy. I’m sorry but I have to ask: have you ever prepared a cure for a curse?"
The flower generally looked like a rare specimen of a lady bell: small, lilac petals growing along a thin, long stem. Among all the other fragrances drifting through the air of the store, including the stench of nitrophosphate that stuck to your skin, it was virtually impossible to smell the faint, sweet aroma of the plant unless one had their nose right up against the lilac flowers.
He didn’t answer you - simply stared at you in anticipation. “It’s not complicated,” you gave him a nervous laugh. To be fair, you weren’t sure why exactly you were tense: was it because his ambiguously inhuman appearance had an odd charm to it or because his apparent lack of emotions made you unsure what reaction action to expect from him? “You need to grind two parts petals to one part moon water, bring to a simmer and keep slowly mixing until it's a smooth paste. The remedy should be either ingested or used as an ointment.” Here you made a small pause, for a moment pondering whether it wasn’t rude to inquire about the boy. But the image of a child being eaten away by a slow, malicious curse made your stomach churn and your sympathetic heart yearned to know more. “Who’s he to you? If I may ask?”
“An opportunity to pay off a very old debt,” the stranger answered. His response came off as assertive but not yet crude. “Name your price, witch.” For some reason, the title came out of his mouth dripping with venom as though the sole motion of his tongue pronouncing that word made him disgusted.
“I can’t take anything in return,” you said while shaking your head. “I don’t want to. The boy’s well-being is good enough for me.”
“I did not ask if you had a price. I asked what it was.”
Surprised, you lifted your eyebrows - he had to be the very first client that insisted on paying. “What do you think this flower is worth?”
“I’m not knowledgeable in plant maintenance.”
“You misunderstood me, sir. This Long Verecund, what is it worth to you? How much does it matter whether you have it or not?”
The stranger reached inside his coat. As though he had been prepared for your wish of strange currencies, he revealed… a snowglobe? It was a small trinket, couldn’t be taller than 7 centimetres. Once the golden sand, a curious element in a snow globe, settled, a statuette of a siren sitting on a moon was visible inside the sphere. It looked like something straight out of a souvenir shop but at the same time, it was strangely personal and thoughtful. He put the item on the counter before quietly saying: “The nightmares brought by the plant shall not bother you anymore.”
You furrowed your eyebrows feeling an odd sense of dread appear in your stomach. How on Earth did he know about Widow’s Woe?
The doorbell rang again as the man opened the door. The bright sound pulled you out of your own bewilderment. “Sir?” you called out to him before he could leave your store for good. Morpheus looked at you over his shoulder, silently awaiting whatever it was you needed to tell him. “I wish you all the best. I really do.”
“Thank you.”
Part of you wished he’d swing by again but maybe not because of cursed children that time.

I played "Strange Horticulture" and absolutely loved it. A chill game with plants and achievements for petting a cute black cat? Hell yeah!!

LWA: Going back to a very old conversation, I suddenly realized that Bishop /isn't/ the only one of Aziraphale's "jobs" we haven't seen yet. The other one is garden designer ("deziner"). I think we all just skipped over that and said, yeah, at the Dowlings. But this is from 1941! Assuming he was sticking around England, the most logical time for Aziraphale to be pursuing this line of work would be the eighteenth century, which is the great age of English landscape gardens.
It also subverts fanon a bit. I know that everyone assumes that Crowley has a gift for gardening, but even in the series he knows nothing about plant care and doesn't seem to be aware that he has anything to learn. I've always found the thought of TV!Crowley trying to garden "the human way" to be hilarious, frankly: if he doesn't get why TV!Aziraphale does magic tricks or tries to learn French, he's probably going to have an equally hard time getting why he should go out and weed, instead of just snapping his fingers and making the weeds go poof...
fuck it LWA let's go two-for-two (and my profuse gratitude that it's a less head-scratchy one, thank you)✨
that's a bloody good point; first thing, i always took these to be in chronological order - that's logical, right?
so we have a huge gap between 537AD, and 1800 (presuming of course that aziraphale wasn't a bookseller before he opened the whickber street shop). i love the idea that if aziraphale was in england at the time of being a garden designer, and that it would be around this time period - stepping away from the more french-style landscaped order and neatness, and reviving it to brought back to blend in with nature... plus, the temples!!!
(and here is where i get duly ensconced in looking at pictures of rievaulx terrace and chiswick house)
if he wasn't in england though, i reckon he could have been in italy, because if there were some plans for a minisode placing them in 15th century italy, i feel like some of the design concepts/terminology from this period would fit with aziraphale? god knows im not an expert on historical horticulture, especially that from the italian renaissance, but its a school day - the concept of the villa/house being placed above the gardens for the best view from either point feels pretty on-point. not even going to pretend that i didn't lift this from wikipedia, it just felt too apt:
furthermore, if we do accept that that list is in chronological order, i wonder where aziraphale would have fit in being a bishop between, say, 1750 - 1800? at best?
as for crowley - look. i love the idea in a human AU context that crowley would be a keen gardener, and i do like the thought process that, in canon, we see some kind of sentimentality from him where his plants are concerned (not sure why else he would choose a select few to keep in his car - not if they would otherwise have a good home to go to). but yeah, i otherwise cant quite reconcile crowley with being the demonic equivalent of charlie dimmock - although i bet he gets a kick out of shouting at old ground force reruns from time to time✨

I saw Moana 2! (thaughts + SPOILERS)
ok so I somehow walked out of this movie knowing no new character names? oops. im bad at names for the reccored so im going to describe them by character traits.
i definetly think we need a 3rd movie, ideally to wrap up the cool bat lady and big evil's thingy. i also want to see what we do with moana's new demigod-ness? but even if they get going on that right now we'll still have to wait a couple years i'd bet. so in the meantime i think we should really lean into our new little cast of side characters.
picture like shorts that feature the autistic girl testing new boat ideas. So like she makes a little sketch, erases the sail, redraws the sail. cuts out a prototype sail. decides she hates it, tries a new desighn. tests it.... idk. so like the grumpy farmer having a moment of agricultural bliss after he finishes a new irrigation channel.
Like they could even be educational. Our little wattpad writer over there could impart creativity lesson, autistic engineer can employ the scientific method, and gramps could be our lovely little horticulture expert.
idk i think it would be fun. kind of in the chaotic space of the Mickey Mouse shorts with a more inovative artstyle like tangled the series. I feel like there used to be pixie hollow shorts so if that wasnt a fever dream, picture that. also think jake and the neverland pirates in how little we saw of peter pan. like i only want to see moana taking center stage for special occasions. she can be there in passing and i think it could be cute to have an episode of her just idly chatting at the ocean. but i also want episodes of Pua's daily life of baby sister doing whatever small children do.

This is really random but I feel like I want to get it out and I don’t know where/who to so I’m getting it out here.
I am quite upset by my dad at the moment. In many ways he is wonderful. He supports me so much, more than he should have to. I feel bad that soon after he retired he basically ended up dropping his retirement plans and becoming my almost full-time carer but he has never complained and in fact continues to say he is proud of me and does so much.
However some of his views really bother me.
1. On Palestine - every time anyone mentions the atrocities going on he says everyone’s oversimplifying things. That Israel are not acting unacceptably, they are retaliating and defending themselves from Hamas. That Palestine started it etc. As if it makes what they seem to be doing less atrocious. I never know how to respond to him. He just insists everyone else is wrong.
2. On Covid vaccines - he attributes almost every death that happens at the moment to complications of the Covid vaccines (and says this is being covered up on purpose). He says it must be the case because people have died from blood clots etc. following vaccination but I feel like he is cherry picking data. He says they should never have been rolled out, the pandemic was an exercise in controlling people and making the vaccine/pharmaceutical industry large profits. Yes, governments did act questionably and wealthy people made a disgusting amount of money from the situation but to say that’s what the pandemic was all about when so many people died of Covid, especially at the beginning and everyone was so terrified… I feel like he is missing something. (Also he joined a rather sketchy seeming website called ‘Lockdown Sceptics’ which seemed to be used by lots of questionable figures).
3. Climate change - he says climate scientists are spreading panic, also humans can’t possibly be expected to drastically change their lifestyles, it isn’t fair so we should carry on business as usual. When I looked round environmental science departments at universities he’d try to pick arguments with climate scientists (when he has a college qualification in horticulture). When he was younger he used to be in Friends of the Earth. Now this.
4. Trans issues - he says it’s good that waiting lists for GICs are stupidly stupidly long and it’s really hard to access them because gender affirming care is not to be taken lightly and people are just confused about themselves and should be forced to take time to make decisions (but 7+ years for an initial consultation to just discuss things? Really? And what about all the time before asking to go to a GIC?). He says the Cass report does have validity. He says the new rules about no gender neutral bathrooms in new buildings and segregating trans people in hospitals are not unreasonable. (He also recently changed his mind about accepting my coming out as non-binary which kind of hurts).
5. Science - he says science in general, and particularly the medical field, is not trustworthy. That it is all funded and influenced by the government and Big Pharma and other corrupt corporations even if no conflicting interests are declared so no research is reliable. And he says “science isn’t about facts, it’s about debate” and that no one is letting things be debated. He is not a scientist. Why is he so sure he can claim this? He preached the words of YouTube ‘experts’ who make claims about things in fields they are not qualified in and YouTube doctors who say mainstream medicine is completely wrong and give diet and lifestyle advice etc. that personally I find quite unsettling. He says ‘well x says the data actually shows this’ and I say ‘have you actually looked at this data yourself?’. He says ‘no’ - he just blindly trusts these YouTube ‘experts’ opinions.
He is 76. And spends entire days trawling through Google on his laptop. I don’t know if that is worth mentioning. I don’t know, so many of his views sit uncomfortably with me and I just don’t know what to do or what to say to him. And he upsets my sister too because of some of these things so maybe it’s not just me being overly sensitive and wrong.
#sorry this is really random#just need to get it out#I’d be interested to hear anyone else’s comments#personal#family problems#politics#covid 19#covid vaccine#science#medicine#Gaza#Palestine#transgender#gender issues#climate change#is this okay?#is he right and I’m getting unreasonably bothered?#it’s difficult#need to express this to people who don’t know him personally#and where I am relatively anonymous#so here I am#feel free to tell me I’m wrong because I don’t know anymore#not that I ever did know

141 (and friends) professional and personal Specialty Headcannons.
also I dipped for a hot minute but I spent that time reading twitter thread fics like the internet goblin I am and falling into the multi shipper hole that is PriceNik and poly141 so here are more Headcannons about our favs.
(also no I won't write Konig Headcannons, I don't like him. pls stop asking)
Areas of interest: academic and personal.
-soap is good at chemistry and chemical equations. the man has the periodic table tattooed on the back of his eyelids and nothing will stop him from making an IED out of literally the most random shit. also knows a concerning amount about atomic physics. but he also has a passion for all poetry and writes little sonnets in his sketchbook for his partners.
-Price is really good at languages. he's a certified multilingual and is constantly learning. his favourite part is learning niche regional dialects. he is fluent in conversation in all major languages and can speak conversationally in at least 30 others. he also really enjoys horticulture. he can name 50 different grasses according to Laswell.
- Ghost specialises in trigonometry. he can do it mentally on the fly and often comes out correct. he uses it in his sniping, allowing him to be sent on more solo missions, without the need for a spotter. coincidently his secondary talent is navigation, he is bizarrely good at maps and geo guessing games but also used to do orienteering tournaments before his “death”. after the alone mission, despite only being told where the safe house was, ghost seemed to find his way there, without a map, from a city he had only been in for like a week. I like to think his internal sense of direction is like homing pigeon level. you could stick him anywhere and he could immediately find his way back.
-Gaz is an all-round science man, a jack-of-all-trades. he has a comprehensive knowledge of biology, chemistry, physics, geology and the niche areas as well. zoology, astrophysics, ecology, palaeontology, psychology, genetics astronomy, botany, microbiology and the list goes on. you'll never meet someone with so much knowledge of the natural, social and formal sciences. he's not at university level but he has a thorough understanding of the concepts and case studies for all. he can comprehend the advanced concepts as well. its helped the 141 out of some tight spots. coincidently his personal interest is reading. his room on base and his apartment is full of academic journals and natgeo magazines.
-Alejandro. Mechanical engineering. The colonel of the Los Vaqueros can fix anything with duct tape and a prayer, but he also can build the most robust (and more importantly) high-functioning machinery. all repairs to their vehicles and heavy weaponry on base are done by Alejandro, simply because he doesn’t trust anyone else with the machines that keep his men safe. he also enjoys doing it, it gives him some time to wind down and just tinker with things. His secret talent is weaving and braiding. he was taught by his abuela to not only weave scarves and things like carpets, but also to braid her hair and his sisters once she got too old. (I head cannon him as the oldest and they all lived with their grandma cause their parents died.) he used to braid Valerias hair (as an mlm/wlw besties thing) before she betrayed them. he braided Gaz’s hair once they bonded over engineering.
-Rudolfo. Rudy is an expert in law. more specifically domestic and international criminal law, but he also keeps up with all legal disciplines. due to the proximity of Las Almas to the border, he also keeps up to date with USA law. He's a life saver in sticky jurisdiction missions. he also manages the compounds paperwork for requests. he has a silver tongue that translates to requisition forms. his personal passion is painting though. he feels that sometimes words aren't enough to describe things and loves painting landscapes and the little moments, like a flowering cactus in the middle of the night but also its death the next morning. he knows how fleeting life can be in his profession, and wants to capture all aspects. hopefully more with Ale if they retire.
-Laswell. Algorithms. typical of a spook Kate is an expert in cryptographic algorithms. she spent a few years as a cipher breaker/creator in her early career and hasn't lost her touch since moving to intelligence. all of her transmissions to her sources are hand encrypted and they have a key delivered separately. she creates them herself so that they can't be deciphered. she also does it completely in her head, nothing is typed out. her time off is spent back on her wife's farm, as her passion is animal husbandry. they raise goats, sheep, some assorted fowl and a smaller herd of cattle together. she has an Australian Shepard and a kelpie/blue heeler dog that she trained herself.
-Nik is an expert in psychology. not in your typical clinical way, but the body language, tone of voice, mindset and “takes one look and deciphers your whole life” way. His experience is immense and he applies it all the time. he can tell when a prisoner is lying in interrogation and when he's been made during undercover. Nik knows people, and frequently uses his observations to do things like blatantly walk into a restricted area with only confidence and a blank lanyard. the Russian is unparalleled in putting himself in the enemies mind space or pulling off dangerous acts in a crowded area. he’s been teaching gaz some tricks (e.g. the Amsterdam cafe mission). But on the side, he is an excellent barber. haircuts of any length and a full on old fashioned shave, with a straight razor and everything, is his special talent. he does price’s moustache, Jonnys mohawk (even though he thinks its ugly when short), learnt how to give gas a full hair treatment and even does Kates hair. he uses it for missions of course (its a great source of intel) but he also finds it to be a way to show care to his people.
bonus:
Valeria: main specialty-economics and accounting. special interest-botany (but strictly focusing on poisonous and hallucinogenic plants)
Graves: main specialty: aeronautics. special interest-being a backstabbing bitch? jk, he's actually super into smoking and curing meats. if he had joined 141 he and ghost would have eventually found common ground there. (ghost actually enjoyed his career as a butchers apprentice)
anyway that's it for now, and I'll try upload more often. feel free to repost on other platforms with credit, my twitter @ is @macG_Unit. also let me know if anyone writes pics based off these, id love to read them.
