Post-war idea: Hork-Bajir tourism. Not "People going to Yellowstone to see the Hork-Bajir" like the books mention, but "Hork-Bajir traveling the world to see all the trees" tourism. I think they'd love the Cork trees of Iberia in particular. Circling back to the first point - I think I understand why the Hork-Bajir are in Yellowstone. The massive canyons and geothermal activity in the park probably looks a lot like their homeworld's rifts!

what horrible new halloween costumes do you think will become popular after the war?
Andalite tourist (lazy version): Don a headband with blue stalk eyes, and carry around a Krispy Kreme box.
Andalite tourist (hardcore version): Paint your entire body blue, have an inflatable second set of legs and tail attached to your butt, and attach the tail blade to a wristband so that you can swing it around by waving your arm.
Animorph (lazy version): Put on bike shorts, take off shoes.
Animorph (hardcore version): Exactly match Rachel's preferred cut and color of leotard. Wear brown fur boots and gloves, then use body paint on your arms and legs to make it look like they're transitioning into a morph.
Yeerk (lazy version): Borrow your friend's The Sharing shirt.
Yeerk (hardcore version): Shave your head, and paint your scalp with the illusion of a window looking in on your brain with a slug wrapped around it. Then borrow your friend's The Sharing shirt.
Hork-bajir (lazy version): Get a t-rex costume, add a headband with blades on it.
Hork-bajir (hardcore version): This one involves stilt-walking, while wearing knives, and has been banned in six countries by November 1 of the first year after the war.

Some (very) old, Animorphs fanart. Kudos if you can name the characters.

Hear me outs are particularly difficult for me to choose due to my aro/ace-ness. However, I would have to go for the Hork-Bajir from the Animorphs book series.
Accepted! I find them sufficiently non-human, despite being ripped. i am not familiar enough to judge on personality, charisma, or audience sympathy.
Tumblr media
And don't worry about it, I'm mostly rating these on three fronts: audience likeability, romancibility, and humanity. All of these are on a sliding scale, but the more likeable (ex: a main character), human (ex: ripped and thin), and romancible (ex: married (audience is already open to the possibility of them being in a relationship of any kind)) the character is the more basic the "hear me out".
so venom: not human, but jacked, and has had relationships or popular ships > more basic
but a lego: not human, an inanimate object, generally neutral >
I think the more you have to defend a hear me out the better it is, not necessarily how attractive the character (or thing) is or isnt.

Wyvern the pup has been horking and we weren’t sure why. (Turns out he ate part of a blanket). But after a bit my betrothed said, “We should call him Hork.”
And like someone who’s read the entire Animorphs series multiple times I said, “Hork-Bajir more like.” (That’s the name of one of the alien species).
That was hours ago.
They just said out of nowhere, “Hork-Bajir has just been going around and around in my head nonstop.”

{PSNL} That's my tree!
A dumb image idea that came to my mind. I re-watched Suction Cup Man by PieMations on Youtube and thought this would be an amusing enough exchange between Vene and my Hork-Bajir OC, Gali. I'm talking about Hork-Bajir again with my BFF, and look, I love them. They're honestly one of the most impressive alien races in all of Animorphs.
They know three languages! They're pretty fast and very strong! They're mostly not inquisitive, curious people, but that's OK! You don't have to be!
They somehow persist after YEARS of brutal slavery, and losing their home, losing each other, suffering a *chemical weapon* in the form of a quantum virus, and attempted cultural genocide!
The Hork-Bajir are amazing resilient people, and they also are just, you know, guys. A race of himbos. But being "considered big and dumb" and actually being those things are two different things.
They're not toddlers or children, they're alien immigrants, who are mind-control slaves, so simply existing is very difficult.
(There's a LOT OF COOL ALIENS in Animorphs! Like the Leeran, the Chee, and the Helmacrons, but I readily attached to the Hork-Bajir very early on, and said, "THESE GUYS".)

Hi! Apologies if your inbox is a weird place to drop this, but. I have had an animorphs thought haunting me and just absolutely not enough spoons to do anything with it myself, and you're the only animorphs blog I really know...so I guess I thought I'd maybe offer it up here and hopefully it'll resonate with someone? Anyway, the thought. 47 is a WEIRD book...what could a rewrite of it look like? And from there, I've become obsessed with the idea of yeerks find the hork bajir valley, but instead of what happens canonically, the animorphs & Toby arrive at a horrible possible solution: the yeerks will be there too soon for them to just run & nobody wants to give up their home -> if they leave some behind to fight and stall they'll get infested and the yeerks will know to keep looking -> ...but what if the force they leave behind genuinely doesn't know they're being sacrificed? They fight and die or are infested genuinely believing the rest of the valley is right behind them as reinforcements, while in actuality that group is being evacuated (maybe to return to their ellemist-protected home after the yeerks leave, convinced they've put down the free hork bajir, ymmv on that). The dam & the subsequent breaking of it is a cover to create chaos and really distract anyone from wondering about the numbers too much. I just think it could be a perfect opportunity to explore infestation, choices made to prevent it, etc...plus give a lens for talking about betrayal & lies for the "greater good" and via that, actually address the falling out between Jake and Ax from 46...plus maybe foreshadow that Jake is ultimately going to pull something disturbingly similar with the Auximorphs! like I said, I don't have the spoons to do anything substantial with this concept, but yeah, I wanted to set it loose. I absolutely won't be offended if you decide your blog isn't the venue for this, and regardless, love your writing and I hope you're doing well.
I like this idea, because yeeeaaaah, #47 is a hot mess. And a classic case of "you tried to do antiracism but fumbled it so bad you kind of just circled back around to being condescending about race."
But also, I love how this would actually interrogate the idea of "you're better off dead than a controller." Because the series presents that idea as true, basically without question, and basically without proof. The only time I think Animorphs comes close to questioning it is the end of #28, and even then it's in the midst of Cassie and Ax debating a different point.
Because I'm sure being a controller is awful. And I'm sure there are indeed fates worse than death. But just assuming from the outside that someone is better off dead is a slippery fucking slope. One that causes 100s of disabled people every year to get murdered by their caregivers. You don't get to assume from the outside that someone forfeits their right to life just because you think they'd be "better off dead" than poor or disabled or communist or enslaved.
So I'd love to see an Animorphs plotline where several hork-bajir choose to let themselves be captured and infested, knowing that doing so is necessary for the war effort and that the alternative is dying. (IMHO Toby would never do this without the sacrifices' permission — she isn't Jake.) These would be hork-bajir who have been controllers before, hork-bajir who understand better than Jake ever will how precarious their entire species is. If they say "I will let myself be captured in the hope of rescue once we win the war, rather than dying" then I think there's tremendous courage in that. And I'd love to see it explored.
