Hello! New to the X-men fandom, drawn here by Scott Summers (I love your blog so much!) Two questions, if you don't mind:
1. What would you consider essential reads for Scott specifically? There are so many starting points it seems.
2. I did finish Whedon's run of Astonishing X-Men (at the recommendation of reddit) and was wondering if Scott (now?) doesn't need his ruby quartz glasses/visor? Sorry if that's a run-specific question!
Hello!
The first question is surprisingly difficult, only because Scott's such a staple throughout the entirety of the X-Men. So let me kind of give you a run down of your options.
--
The 60s comics are really fun, if you want to see where things began. It is very 60s though, and the style may not be to your taste. There's also some period sexism that's not great (though surprisingly less than I expected. Possibly because Jean's meant to be a fairly liberated teen, as opposed to older ladies like Sue Storm or Janet Van Dyne.)
The Claremont Era (Starting with Giant-Sized X-Men, which introduces staples like Storm and Wolverine) is probably what will be the most familiar to folks who became used to the X-Men from other sources, like the cartoons. The Animated Series and X-Men '97 adapt a lot of Claremont era stuff, so it'll be pretty familiar.
It's also soapy and dramatic, and Scott (and Jean) feature very heavily. You'll also meet Rachel. Rachel is fun.
X-Factor's first run is something I'd recommend only after you've gotten into the character more. It's actually really good, IMO, and an amazing deconstruction of how much of a trainwreck the poor guy actually is. It's not always a flattering portrayal though, which is part of what makes it interesting. (It is good though to read the Madelyne stuff for yourself eventually, summaries tend to ignore the aspects that make Scott's side of things a bit more understandable, if not sympathetic.) Baby Cable is here too.
The 90s X-Comics are pretty fun too, like the earlier Claremont era, this is likely what folk are familiar with if they remember the cartoons. Costumes, characters, and so on. Scott is one of a very large cast, but he tends to have some really good arcs here and there. The art takes getting used to it. This is where you'll start seeing adult Cable as a major character. And another AU Summers child, Nate Grey. He's complicated.
the 2000s-2011 era of Comics have a lot of upheaval and events. Scott is still an idealist, but he's been jaded by a lot of events (and will be jaded by more). You'll see him get darker here, but not evil. It's pretty sad though. SO MANY big events though, Scott pulls off a lot of wild shit.
In 2011-2016, we have two Scotts basically. Avengers vs. X-Men is a massively huge event that changes Scott's role for a long time. For our main Scott, the next few years are going to read a lot like whump fic. He's going to suffer, people are going to blame him (unfairly, imo!) for a lot of things, and he'll be treated like a monster at times. That said, there are people who do see the truth and end up even joining him.
But also around this time, through shenanigans (read: Hank McCoy), the timeline is disrupted and the 1960s era Original Five (specifically circa issue #8) are brought to the future. They have their own adventures in lines like All-New X-Men (v1. and v2.), X-Men Blue, and Scott specifically has a solo series early on and then joins up with Kamala Khan's Champions and it's darling.
Eventually older Scott "dies" (it happens in comics). Young Scott continues though. When Young Scott goes to the past again, older Scott comes back (unrelated reasons).
For 2019-2020, there's a short run by Matthew Rosenberg, starting at issue 11 or so. The original team of X-Men is presumed dead (really they're dealing with some multiversal nonsense. Possibly Nate Grey's fault), and a returned Scott starts gathering new X-Men. It's intense, angsty and kind of bleak. This isn't about saving the world anymore, just maybe going out doing what they should.
From 2020-2023, we get a massive, amazing change in direction called the Krakoa arc. Scott's not featured as prominently here (It's Xavier's show), but he's solid in any series that he appears (Adjectiveless X-Men will always have him somewhere. He's very prominent in Teen Cable's book too.) Krakoa is something very different than anything the X-Men series(es) have done before and it's definitely worth reading. Though for my own taste, I like the return to form that comes with...
Our current era is "From the Ashes" and it's not actually a bad place to jump on. Everyone's a little scattered and out of sorts since the fall of Krakoa, but Scott, being who he is, has already pulled his own book together for the kind of mutant-rescuing heroics that he is wont to do.
As to where to start? Honestly, I'd go with whatever seems the most fun to you. Eventually, I think, you'll find yourself branching out and it won't be nearly so confusing. (There are also wikis, podcasts, and annoying pedants like me who like explaining everything.). Fans will often have their favorite special books (Children of the Atom, for example, is probably my favorite version of the O5 origin. It came out in 2001 and has a truly horrifying Jack Winters), and we'll always leap on the opportunity to share those things.
-------------------------------------------
as for 2. I don't know if you read the Giant-Sized finale of Astonishing X-Men, but they do have a scene where Scott's eyes start glowing again and Emma places the visor on him. It's a nice, quietly somber scene.
In current X-continuity, Scott does still need the visor. The inability to control his blasts may have a psychological component but there's also physical brain damage. (In the Krakoa arc, there are mechanisms where he might have repaired said damage, but it actually does come up at some point, and he specifically chooses not to. I hope I can find that page again, because I feel like there's a lot of interesting potential meta in that choice.)
I don't think they ever really revisit why Emma (or Cassandra, possibly) had been able to neutralize Scott's blasts/restore temporary control over them, but I tend to go with the interpretation that a powerful enough telepath could force a bypass with his powers, but it's an incredibly traumatic, potentially damaging, and ultimately temporary solution. Hence, what we see.
For her part, Jean Grey (at least in the modern era) is able to psychically block his powers. And that's always fun. (And sometimes a little kinky!)

ALRIGHT CICI jude queen i have a question for you <3
with aphrodisiac event coming up, and jude being a 95k bonus, have you ever done or read his bonus story? i saw a post where you had said you weren't playing then so you don't have it
is it worth spending money to try and get it?
i am SLIGHTLY a collector so i like to collect stuff if it's good.....esp for characters i like. but for example, i didn't bother trying to get jude's 410 CE story for the new years event because i didn't LOVE the story (it was cute don't get me wrong) so i didn't want to waste the resources to try and make the 410 hearts
and if it is.....how much approx. do you usually have to spend to reach a 95k bonus ;w;
TY BB ILY i hope 2025 has been treating you amazingly :')
YUMIIII,
Okay, so I was playing at the time, I just never got that story on JP. But here is a link to an ask @.dear-mrs-otome answered who did share spoilers. I hope it helps you decide! I'm not sure what kind of content moves you to collect, but if it's things like spice then I would say go for it? The reason being is that I feel like Jude spice gets locked up after this event until about August-ish.
It's been a while since I've aimed for a 95k on EN, but I usually need around 50-60ish cocktails to get the 95K at the start of the event if it's x3 LT. But was based on me having 4 cards slots open, my BP avg was around 60-70K at the time, and with card multipliers in my escort deck. I usually get a $40 package if my resources are very limited. It can be less than that if I've got about 30 cocktails in stock, and grind as f2p until the last triple time, then I'll buy a package if needed. The amount might vary based on each players stats though.
Here's a few events we have coming up that you may want to wait for instead:
Ellis & Jude Past Records should be right around the corner. It was released on 2/19/24 on JP, and since it's a collection event they have standard rankings and individual suitor rankings for Ellis & Jude. Iirc, Top 100 individual suitor rankings get a +99 of the CG of either Jude or Ellis that they send hearts to. Additionally, top 200 gets a story of his POV.
Ellis' route hits us simultaneously with IkeVil Festival (Election) which starts a month later. If you want a back-hugging Jude avatar that's also a top 100 individual ranking benefit.
There is a 2 part story event that will start in March-ish. Jude's in part 2 around (April-ish), this is a story event that you get to have the suitor's entire event saved to your memories if you complete both ends of the story (epilogue still needs to be purchased ofc).
And then there should be the True Vow wedding event around May. There are individual rankings and things like marriage certificates from individual suitors, once you've sent them a certain amount of hearts (I think it was 600-800 hearts), the suitors in their wedding suits and, their wedding cards that are also +99 if you get into top 100.
Just food for thought if you need to plan and budget for IkeVil on top of Lnds. I'm so sorrryyyy for the long response dfjgsdlfjlgs.
Love you QUEEN!

How do you come up with the sweater ideas
Oh fun question! ✨
For the pose I look up references on Pinterest, and for the pattern it's fairly easy with Homestuck characters because they all have special interests specific to them, and integrating those in their clothes design is my favorite part! ❤️
Btw for my latest sweater drawing I was inspired by this cute sweater I own and I love to go through my sweater collection to see how the patterns look irl because I have accumulated quite a few lol
Also I find that drawing the main design (like crabs or quadrants for Karkat for example) pixelated gives even more of a stitch pattern vibe, and so do little dots and little crosses. The trick to make them look more natural is to make them go along the clothes folds if that makes sense? :)
#hope it helps!#i think i might draw one more sweater before xmas :D#do you guys think I should call it Sweater AU at this point? 😆#ask#art tips

Hey I'm tryin to find a fanfic and I'm wondering if you wrote it or remember who did. It's a one shot I think where Luka and Mari have been dating and one morning she's really tired and wears his jacket to class by accident, cue reactions from everyone else. Another thing I remember is Luka and his friends show up, who love Mari and Lila tries to say that the relationship is a ploy to make Adrien jealous.
I honestly couldn't remember if this was one of mine - bc it kinda sounds like something I've used before but I also tend to stay away from Lila/Salt Land so maybe not? After scouring the older one shots and finding nothing, I tossed it to the LBSCers.
Is this the one you were looking for? (Mari wears his jacket to class, too tired to realize until he shows up with his class, Alya hauls her ass for an interrogation at lunch where Lila tries to start shit.)
Macarons, Jackets, Jackasses - lovelyswriting
Against her efforts, she must have dozed off for a second, because the next time she looks back up, Miss Bustier’s walking into the classroom jerkily, peeved.
Marinette wonders if another akuma graced the school with its annoying presence again, her hand already inching to her purse, but then she spots the line of students trickling in after Miss Bustier. Marinette squints at the whole new lot of people—juniors, she realizes—hovering as a crowd in the corner of the room while Miss Bustier addresses the front of the class.
She promptly chokes on air when she sees a head of bright blue hair amongst them.

Hello! I have a few questions circling around Flipaclip. I wanna start making/try making some animatics, but I don't want to download Flip and then not use it.
1. Are you able to upload images to the app to trace over?(I suck at picking canvas sizes so need to draw on paper first)
2. How do you put audio over the videos? Can you do that on Flipaclip or is that a different app you use to do that?
(sorry if this turns out to be a bother)
Nah it's no bother! Here!
1▪︎ Yes you can! You just have to click up right there >>>
Then It'll show all your pic in your gallery and you can pick your images.
What I do personally, is that, I draw my major sequences on ibispaint (my drawing app) first, on a same canvas sizes as the flipvideo and I uploaded them but transparent.
2▪︎As for the audio..
Flipaclip audio "playlist": Gives you some sounds like car crash or door slam sounds but not music.
Records your voice or your own sounds, if you want.
You can pick audio from your gallery/Playlist!
I mostly download my audio from tiktok XD
I hope that helps! Good luck!

Hii! So I’m new in the Call of Duty fandom but I don’t play the games like on the ps5, etc… I only play Call of Duty on my phone and I got addicted and began digging deeper so here I am! Since I don’t/can’t play the different games of cod do you recommend any channels on youtube that does an amazing walkthrough of the games? I really really want to watch some walkthroughs but I don’t know whats the order of watching each game?? Does each game connect to each other? I’m still kind of confused since I’m still new😅😅. I’m sorry to disturb you though but I hope you can help me😭
Hey anon! That's absolutely alright, I do know of some YouTube channels that you can watch that I would recommend! (I'll link videos and channels as well so it's easier for you)
If you are interested in the gameplay as well as the actors, Dan Allen Gaming is always a good place to turn. He does interviews with the call of duty actors, sometimes plays some games with them, and it's all around fun.
It's great for me to get a different aspect of it, especially the characters and personalities of each individual aside from gameplay which I enjoy. And you might too.
Hallow is another YouTuber who does pretty good playthroughs. Such as the likes of Spider-Man games, but he has a full playthrough of the Modern Warfare Two game without any commentary. He also goes through the first Modern warfare in the reboot trilogy.
Another series I saw was from Typical Gamer which has a couple-part series of the game, this time a walkthrough.
CecliusPlays HD also has some commentary and his walkthrough goes mission to mission so it's not as much a sit through.
These alone are all of JUST the 2022 reboot of modern warfare 2.
TheRadBrad also does playthroughs for both modern warfare 2 and 3.
Shirrako has a gameplay video for Call of Duty Vanguard as well.
GTA 4 PC also has a playthrough of the 2009 game. (I'm having trouble finding ones for the first game if anyone has that, great)
Gamer Max Channel has a walkthrough of the modern warfare 3 game from the og trilogy.
KAHVERENGi AYI does a full gameplay playthrough for the Call of Duty Ghost's campaign.
SycoSquirrelSSU has a playlist of their Call of Duty Black Ops walkthrough.
These are currently the only YouTubers on YouTube alone that I have watched for commentary. I usually watch them so I can go back and see little scenes for fics and stuff. And on Twitch you can find some of the Call of Duty actors who also play in Warzone if you're ever interested.
I hope this was helpful and you can find what you're looking for. Welcome to call of duty 😊
#call of duty#playthroughs of call of duty arent the worst to find#but i find a lot of youtubers commentary kind of annoying so i try to find good of both#modern warefare ii#modern warefare 2#call of duty 2009#call of duty 2022#call of duty black ops#call of duty ghosts#i did attempt to find more but in half an hour-ish this was all i found#some ive only briefly watched of course#hope it helps!

Hello i was wondering if maybe you could share the brushes you use🥺
Apologies for the late response, I had to hunt down all the sources for my brushes again on 2 different programs... Some of these cost some clippy points on CSP but rn there's a login bonus for them until March 13!
CLIP STUDIO:
Sketching:
ReaganS2 pen. Costs 100cp now, but it's been really helpful in how responsive and layered it is for setting up the rough sketch.
AJ's pencil set. Very useful for warmups and figure studies IMO.
Lining:
Quibbly. It costs 50 cp but it's got the perfect texture and crunch that I love in lining, super responsive as well.
Coloring:
YN Painting Brush Set. I added some color jitter to the settings to make it more vibrant.
MYNQZO brushes. Great texture, I personally use the rougher brush the most.
ETC:
Close and fill tool without gaps. This one's just a lifesaver, very good to immediately get a base layer done. There's also other versions OP for the tool made that you should check out.
Erase to remove only protrude pen and overflow. Set your lineart to reference and it'll only paint/erase along the edges. Incredibly useful (There's also the erase along edge eraser, but I prefer the former.)
PROCREATE:
Lining:
Gesinski Ink from the default ink brushes has been my go to for years, with a touch of scattering to add texture. Lately I've been experimenting with the Ink Bleed brush as well.
Coloring:
This brush pack from roseflarea on twitter has been really good, especially love the pastel brush.
If you're willing to spend some money (like 8.50 USD or so) this ghibli inspired brushset is very good for Nature/Landscape pieces. It also includes video timelapses and tutorials. (Also compatible w PS/CSP)
Cityscape brushset by Devin Elle Kurtz on the other hand is super helpful with more urban backgrounds, it's free and compatible w CSP/PS
Devin Elle Kurtz also has a very nice foliage pack that's free as well and compatible with Procreate/PS/CSP, check it out!

What advice would you have for someone looking to start a personal writing saga project on AO3 and/or Tumblr :000 definitely asking for a friend /j
Hooooo boi! I'll tell you what worked for me and hopefully you'll find it useful :)
"Unperson" is the longest and most cohesive project I have ever made publicly, ever. While I've been working on Draka Imperium (my original dragon series) for far longer, it is nowhere near as well thought-out, let alone has a organized set of dedicated content (like Unperson's chapters, audiobook, concept art, and website).
For Unperson specifically, I planned the story out in advance far more than I had done with Draka Imperium previously. This made it easier to have goals in mind for myself (i.e. knowing approximately how many chapters, how many characters, and how many references I would need to create in order to complete the project). Having set goals for myself, it made it far less daunting to actually begin the project, which is always the hardest part.
It also gives you a morale boost when you've completed something, as you know that you've advanced a step towards finishing the project as opposed to just throwing something into an abyss without knowing if you're actually any further to reaching your goal (that is something that caused me to burn out a little with Draka Imperium, which is why I'm re-writing the entire story outline before I create any more art for it).
As for making it successful outside of just completing the project itself, use as many social media platforms as possible. While "Unperson" is hosted on AO3, I've promoted it mostly on Twitter, done this whole Q&A thing on Tumblr, and also posted all of the art and other promotional material on TikTok and deviantArt, as well as created the accompanying material (audiobook and speedpaints) on Youtube. Of course, you don't need to also create all of that side content like I have, but doing so can help to reach audiences outside of your usual bubble.
I've found that creating a website for Unperson to keep all of the primary material and relevant links in one place has been super helpful, both for myself as a creator and for the fanbase. I just used Wix, which is a really easy-to-use website builder that is also free (I'm not sponsored, but I would still recommend them) - I didn't have to learn any coding or anything like that!
The last thing I would advise would be to interact with your audience as much as possible. Respond to comments, promote any fan content that people make, create lots of teaser material for people to interact with and theorize around, etc. I've found that the reason why things like the DSMP have been so successful is because of the sheer amount of community interaction, so I decided to take that approach with my own content creation :) It also just makes it more fun for myself, too!
I hope that you find some of that useful :3
