So we’re getting Eli on Casualty!!!!! It looks like a one-off, but nonetheless I’m thrilled. (I didn’t let myself quite believe it until now even though we saw him in the trailer, lmao. I didn’t want to believe it because I would’ve been distraught if I thought I was getting more Eli and then Davood Ghadami was somehow playing a different character or something.)

My favourite autistic-coded surgeon is coming back to meee!! <3 I love Eli so, so much and I’ve wanted him on Casualty for months. I am a bit sad he didn’t cross over sooner though, so he could have a scene with Marty (Davood and Shaheen played brothers on Eastenders).

I hope Eli gets scenes with Dylan. I would LOVE to see these two wonderful autistic doctors become friends.

Yk what I went through. A holby City phase. At the ripe age of 11, I spent my entire life finding holby spoilers, watching holby, thinking about every little thing. Y7 me rocked up to school with a raging holby obsession and had no shame. I would have hour long debates with my grandma about it.

I loved these silly little doctors and their silly little problems sm. Your mum is sleeping with someone younger than you. Give me more now. Your boyfriend is a serial killer who never got over his ex, who is your bsf. Okay, when's the next episode. Your sueing your workplace where your family and friends work because your bsf saves your life. I ate it up.

I remeber every little thing that happened in the last 3 years of holby.

Also, if the boy I sat next to in y7 science is reading this. I'm sorry for never shutting tf up about it, but oh well, you got to hear all about Cameron Dunns stupid life choices x

I don’t watch Holby, it just never seemed necessary.

But I want to know what al the stuff is that has to be addressed about “Sacha after Jac’s death”?

Sacha and Jac were best friends. (I assume you know Jac, as she's appeared/been mentioned on Casualty quite a lot, but in case you don't - she was clinical lead of Darwin ward for a long time, a cardiothoracic surgeon, one of Holby's most popular and long-running characters, and got misogynistically fridged in the finale despite the actress being very upset about it and wanting to move to Casualty.)

Well, "best friends" feels like understating it: they were very, very close, basically platonic soulmates, and they've said they see each other as the brother/sister respectively they never had. Jac wanted Sacha to raise her daughter for her if she died. They lived together for a fairly long while. It was a really wonderful and special friendship, I'm trying to think if there's any friendships on Casualty to compare it to but I can't think of any that reach their level. Maybe Dylan and David.

Sacha has depression, that has been really quite severe at times. In 2018, he was suicidal (and one of the stressors that caused him to feel that way was Jac being physically ill). Jac really helped him and supported him with this (and knew what it was like from experience, being mentally ill herself), to the point of inviting him to come and live with her so she could look after him.

Sacha's suffered a lot of trauma over the past few years. His longtime love/fiancee Essie (who had also helped him with his depression) passed away on their wedding day. After that, he was the victim of an abusive relationship with a woman named Jodie. The show barely let Jac help him with either of these for some reason (they even timed the Jodie storyline to coincide with Jac going on a break from the show!), which was frustrating enough, and didn't seem to care for how these things would affect Sacha's mental health.

Then they killed Jac off. Sacha only had a few weeks of even knowing that Jac was terminally ill before she died. Her last words were to him, as well. His dearest friend of over a decade died and, understandably, a lot of fans (one of them being me) were upset over how much this would cause a depression relapse for Sacha, and how he barely has anyone around to support him with both Jac and Essie dead.

It's something that really needed to be touched on IMO, when he appeared on Casualty, and it wasn't. Even a brief mention of Sacha getting counselling or going to a support group would have been something to both acknowledge how losing Jac would've affected him, and assure us that he was being supported and helped by the people around him.

I hope all that made sense, and wasn't too long an explanation or anything.

One thing I'm really going to miss about Holby is you live liveblogging it. And trying not to talk about the medical inaccuracies 😄

haha i'm going to miss my rambling and rantings which probably made zero sense to anyone but i'm glad you enjoyed them!

Shall I.....Shall I do an actual post about the inaccuracies for the episode? Do I dare? Of course I do.

1. The whole 'we're setting up a theatre in this random empty room' - do i need to say anything about this one? I was shook. I can almost forgive them just opening people up on the ward or whatever but the logistics of this like where were they plugging in the ventilation machine? Where were the lights for them to see what they're doing? They're not mobile? If all the theatres are busy that means all of the anaesthetists are as well, unless you've called one in from home but I can guarantee they would refuse if you told them what they were doing

2. Wheeling the heart through to a different theatre and then Nicky starting on that operation...did she rescrub between the two? I hope she did because otherwise that is an infection control nightmare

3. TBH I don't really know enough about transplant medicine to comment much on all of that (I have seen a lung transplant though it's fricking cool) but there is a limit to how quickly they have to get to the recipient and i'm not entirely sure the trip from Bristol to Leeds is within that limit? i could be wrong though, but it's fine because Henrik can be happy

4. Bernie doesn't actually need to take off her wedding ring to scrub in. Sorry Jemma, lovely idea but you can leave it on, you can wear a plain metal band and there's research that wearing it and scrubbing doesn't increase the amount of bacteria on your hands.

5. Bernie and Serena should have been wearing their scrub caps and masks already, once you've washed your hands and put the gloves on you can't touch anything non-sterile, and anyone else in theatre is going to think you're a bit dumb if you then ask them to put your cap and mask on for you (although for the aesthetic, and one last shot of Bernie's hair, I'm not complaining)

6. I don't know if you know, but when we walk through corridors, we don't look like the avengers. I do more of a stumble towards the coffee machine these days and then get stopped in my tracks because I didn't hold my card at the door at the exact angle to let me in

There's probably more but I was crying too much to notice them hahaha
