Over the past couple of years, I’ve written quite a bit about the New York-based indie rock quartet High Waisted.Comprised of Jessica Louie Dye (vocals, guitar), Jono Bernstein (drums), Richey Rose (bass) and Stephen Neilsen (guitar, vocals), the quartet quickly developed a reputation both locally…

Braided Flowers
Tristan Ludlow x reader
Word Count: 1.2k
Warnings: nothing!
Author’s Note: I literally loved this so much. I think its one of my favorite fluffs I’ve ever written just because TRISTAN! I really hope you like it as much as I did babe :)
Requested: by @fancycandy, Good morning, I hope you've been doing well. May I request something with Tristan Ludlow and reader raising their little girl? Thank you so very much and have a great day!!!
Summary: the request!
Genre: fluff. Tooth aching fluff.
(not my gif) (HANDSOME OH MY GOSH)
When Tristan found out that you were pregnant he couldn’t really hide his excitement. Most of his life had been slow and unforgiving but when you came along all of that had changed. You were the light of his life and he knew that you were the one that he wanted for the rest of his life. The two of you got married at a young age but there had never been any regret about it. You were so in love with each other and that had never really gone away.
So when he found out there would be a little one of him or a little one of you running around the ranch he was so ecstatic. You loved each other so much that it was so exciting for the two of you to share that love.
When you gave birth and found out it was a little girl he cried. You had seen him cry before but never in such a public place with his family around. But he was so proud of her and of you that you had never loved him or her more.
You leaned against the side of the stables, watching her and Tristan play around. She was just about five now and while there had been some ups and downs you wouldn’t trade your little family for the world.
Tristan looked up at you. He was sitting in the middle of the stables, holding some hand picked flowers that you and your daughter had just gotten from the fields. The sun was shining high in the sky but there was a light breeze so that it wasn’t too hot.
“Your mom picked these for me?”
“She said your hair is like our and I could…” she trailed off sheepishly as she held up one of the daisies. You smiled and Tristan glanced at you, giving you a look. He put his hand on her tiny one and raised it to his ear.
“You can put it up there sweetheart,” he whispered. Her smile grew large and she leaned forward excitedly and put one of the flowers in his hair. Her hand trailed down his long locks gently. You pride yourself in having raised a considerate daughter, someone who was gentle. She got that from you.
You stepped forward and knelt on the ground beside your husband and daughter, your dress dirting on the floor of the stables. You took one of her flowers and put it behind Tristan's ear. You brushed his hair back and his eyes landed on you. Samuel used to say he had never really known love until he looked at Tristan looking at you and you looking at him. It wasn’t rare to catch his heart's eyes but they never failed to give you comfort and some butterflies.
“Mom can you braid this in?” she muttered beside you, shoving a flower in your face.
“Why don’t you do it princess?”
“Because you braid it well, daddy likes the braid.” You and Tristan shared a small laugh as you took it from her and nodded.
“Daddy does like it when I mess with his hair don’t you?” you said, shoving the flower in his face. He grabbed you by the waist and pulled you down so you sat in his lap. You grabbed your daughter and put her in your lap as well. Tristan groaned at the extra weight like she weighed more than 50 pounds.
“You think I can get her on a horse yet?” Tristan asked, nuzzling his head in your neck. You turned your head and kissed his before kissing her head as well.
“I can ride a horse!” she yelled. You shook your head, giving your husband a look but he didn’t look guilty at all. You had held off on letting him put her on a horse because you didn’t think it was quite safe yet but he had been begging for it since day one.
You leaned against his chest.
“Maybe one day baby girl.” She stood up and looked at the two of you, both of you using each other as support.
“Why not now?”
“Because I don’t think it's safe quite yet.” Tristan scoffed but didn’t move away from you.
“Just one ride. I’ll hold her in my arms. You can ride with us if you want!” Tristan promised. You gave him a look and shook your head but you couldn’t really say no to him and to you.
“I will ride beside you.” Both of them cheered but you just shook your head even as Tristan stood up and helped you up with him. He was already running to get the horses and she was following him. You got up slowly and brushed your dress and started to set up your own horse. It didn’t take too long and she sat in front of Tristan, the three of you riding outside. You had never seen your daughter so excited. Tristan still had flowers braided in his hair.
You rode out just around the ranch, not too far and if you got any faster than you were going you would yell at the two of them but it was enough. It was enough for her, enough for him.
You rode slowly and carefully.
“Are you happy now?” you called.
“Yes!” your daughter screamed. You shook your head and gave Tristan a look, holding the reins closely.
“She’s gonna be a better rider than you one day T.” He laughed, giving you his eyes.
“I believe it.”
Alfred could see the three of you riding from the porch he stood at. He watched as Tristan almost shoved you off your horse. He never really thought that his brother would make it as far as he did but watching you now there was no doubt that he had made it. Everyone in the family loved you and your daughter.
Alred had never seen a couple so in love. He had never seen such a perfect family. He constantly wondered how Tristan had done it but was happy that it was done nonetheless.
And your family was perfect. Braided flowers and all.

Meghan Markle’s best style moments over the years
Meghan Markle's stylish looks over the years and how to shop them today (Photo: Getty Images, Art: Yahoo Lifestyle photo-illustration)
Over the years, Meghan Markle has had myriad memorable fashion looks, but with too many to count, we narrowed them down to her very best style moments.
From the time Meghan just started dating Prince Harry wearing skinny jeans and sporting an Everlane tote at the Invictus Games to becoming the Duchess of Sussex and donning an elegant Givenchy one-shoulder gown at the British Fashion Awards — these are Meghan’s top 8 best fashion looks (and her most wearable).
Keep scrolling to see and shop them all.
The editors at Yahoo Lifestyle are committed to finding you the best products at the best prices. At times, we may receive a share from purchases made via links on this page.

Love was in the air at the Invictus Games in September 2017. Long before Meghan became a royal and had just started dating Prince Harry, her style was casual and laidback, but still equally chic. Although we don’t see Meghan wearing her Mother Denim distressed skinny jeans, Misha Nonoo shirt, Sarah Flint flats or carrying her Everlane tote anymore, this look is one all of us can relate to — and one we can all sport during the weekend or an afternoon date.

In one of Meghan’s rare suit moments, the Duchess of Sussex attended the WellChild awards in London on September 4, 2018, wearing an Altuzarra suit, Deitas camisole, Aquazzura black pumps and Stella McCartney clutch. You can never go wrong with a classic black suit, and this Ann Taylor version is a fraction of the cost of Meghan’s designer version — and it even includes stretch for extra comfort!

Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex during an official visit to Sussex on October 3, 2018 in Chichester, United Kingdom. (Photo: Karwai Tang/WireImage)
In the royal couple’s first ever visit to Sussex, Meghan wore a cashmere coat by Emporio Armani, emerald blouse by & Other Stories, Hugo Boss leather skirt, Stuart Weitzman pumps and one of her signature Gabriela Hearst handbags. The key style takeaway here is if you’re going to wear a bold color, balance it with neutrals. This look is easily one of our favorites.

In one of Meghan’s more formal looks for the British Fashion Awards, the duchess turned to her wedding dress designer, Claire Waight Keller, to create this elegant one-shoulder Givenchy gown. You can never go wrong with a black dress, but the one-shoulder silhouette adds an unexpected sexiness to a traditional black gown. Wear it to any wedding this year and all you’ll need is to add some simple gold bangles.

SXSW 2017 - OEB Spreadsheet #49
Mostly returning artists take our top slots this set, including an indie rock band whose sound matured greatly since our last check-in. Highlights:
Hippo Campus (9) - “Monsoon” lightly walks across water, a gentle electro-pop lullaby for now and for the future. “Boyish” is completely the opposite, pounding and pulsing from note one, a controlled frenzy instilled with purpose.
Hello Nico (7) - Hello Nico’s music is lush and expansive, combining dream pop and post rock just about 50/50. Orchestral accompaniment gives their 2016 EP 閉上眼睛 a grand coating, cinematic glory encompassed in all four tracks.
Hawai (7) - On top of the exciting duo of singles that had me buzzing last year, two additional tracks have since rounded out Hawai’s debut EP Working All Night. “On My Own” layers new wave rock into the California band’s lush, indie rock sound, balanced by echoing ballad “All Night”, a song of building, dramatic glory by track’s end.
Ha Ha Tonka (7) - Ha Ha Tonka’s fifth full-length Heart-Shaped Mountain is set to embrace electric pop/rock more than their Southern rock roots, an continuing evolution displayed on lead single “Race to the Bottom”. Percussive and full, there’s still a taste of acoustic Americana behind indie rock riffs on this latest offering from a band a decade-plus into their career.
High Waisted (6) - NYC’s High Waisted takes cues from California surf rock on debut On Ludlow, chilled out pop tracks filtered through lo fi, garage plane. More cloudy than sunny, High Waisted’s melancholy hooks resonate consistent across the record’s twelve tracks.

Last year, High Waisted invited us all to their party with On Ludlow, an album of sugar-coated surf pop that's perfect for dancing or daydreaming. This week we welcomed Jessica Louise Dye of the band and she shares a little more about the inspiration for the album, middle school journals and the dream setup for shows. It's a blast!

Last week High Waisted frontwoman Jessica Louise Dye invited me to her solo debut single release party at Ludlow House. Naturally, I brought my Canon 6D Mark II in the event that something might catch my eye. I also knew that Ludlow House over the past handful of years have gotten particularly uptight about photography and I didn’t expect to shoot much of anything in the building; but . . . I was…

INTERVIEW: High Waisted.
Times are tough for the world right now and we need music more than ever. NYC's High Waisted share ‘Drive,’ the second single from their upcoming album, Sick of Saying Sorry, out May 22. Bandsintown exclusively premiered the track last week, calling it the "new single that we need right now" and praising, "High Waisted are giving us the positive vibes that we need in these seemingly dreary time."
High Wasted is NYC-based surf rock, with notable pop sensibility, feminist ideals and an affliction for rock and roll. Jessica Louise Dye’s powerful voice meshes with her eclectic mix of infectious guitar melodies. Joined by Jono Bernstein’s vintage drum vibes, they create modern day anthems full of insightful hopes. High Waisted bring empowerment, feminine inspiration, and raucous rock ‘n’ roll to every stage with an unforgettable live show.
The group's sophomore record is ready for the world to hear, produced by Tad Kubler (The Hold Steady) and mixed by Arun Bali (Saves The Day) and we had a chat with Jessica all about Sick of Saying Sorry, touring and more. Read the interview below.
You're gearing up to release your sophomore LP Sick of Saying Sorry in May. What is the record about? What were your influences for the album and what does it mean to you?
"Sick of Saying Sorry is an unapologetic record about finding hope in a hopeless situation and the strength to get up when the world is screaming at you to stay down. It’s release was delayed due to being in a biking accident, which makes its release even more special. We’re at yet again another crossroads, this time with the majority of society in total lockdown. We need art in this time of darkness."
Absolutely. How is Sick of Saying Sorry different (or similar) to On Ludlow? Were there any musical influences or sounds that you were able to incorporate on this record that you hadn’t previously? Were there any differences in the songwriting process?
“Sick of Saying Sorry is more honest. We spent time writing, touring, recording in pre-production, making changes, touring and then recording in-studio. We broke the songs down to their simplest forms and built them back up again. Everything grew together quickly and we were flexible when it came to listening to what the song needed, not what we wanted from the song."
I really love the artwork for the album. Please tell us a little bit more about that.
"We came up with the idea based on the idea of self improvement and growth. “You used to be my cup of tea, but now I drink champagne.” The tea cups have been in my possession since my first week living in NYC. Friends and I would sip whiskey and bubbles from them during snow storms and heat waves, through break ups, tears and victories. They were part of every life changing moment. We no longer live in that apartment and we no longer drink from those tea cups. It marks the end of that part of my life. We collaborated with Jonathan Fasulo at his home studio, to take the table top idea to album cover art. Jono and I do all of the layout design from there and send it to press!"
That’s so awesome! I like that. What do you hope fans will take away from Sick of Saying Sorry?
"I hope fans enjoy Sick of Saying Sorry as an escape from their worries. What a strange time we’re living in. We hope we can connect with fans in person sometime soon, but until then we’re riding this out from the comfort of our own homes and neighborhoods, writing music and trying to stay sane."
Were there any other songs written during this period that didn’t make it onto the album, and if so, will you revisit them again in the future?
"Probably a dozen, there’s always material left on the cutting room floor. Things find a way of coming back around. We released a split 7” at the end of 2017 with some tracks that didn’t make the LP, because they were such a departure from our normal sound."
Hopefully (fingers crossed!) you'll be touring the record. What do you love most about touring and being on stage?
"As of now we’re taking things day by day, monitoring what the CDC says and the government. We’ll definitely miss the rush and joy being on stage brings up and hope to return when the world has recovered. We definitely love catching up with friends outside of New York and seeing the smile of someone losing themselves in the [live] music."
Which of the new songs are you excited to debut live and why?
"'Burdens' because the horns are so special! But we also had a bunch of friends featured on the album.
Do you remember your first ever show? If so, please tell us about it!
"High Waisted’s first show was at Union Hall. We had balloons and projections. I think I wore a white baby doll dress."
You have been so busy and accomplished so many awesome things in the last four years. What would you say has been the biggest highlight of your time in High Waisted? And why?
"There’s not one event to highlight, it’s the fact we’re still getting to create."
Finally, what's one non-musical goal of yours for 2020?
"I’m learning how to sew and want to make my own costumes."
Sick of Saying Sorry is out May 22.

‘Leominster bread and Weobley ale’ – Daniel Defoe, Robinson Crusoe author visits Leominster.
‘Leominster bread and Weobley ale’ – Daniel Defoe, Robinson Crusoe author visits Leominster.
Who could resist the author of Robinson Crusoe writing about Leominster. The Headmaster of Leominster Grammar School gave me the book to read while in the 6th Form in 1970. Mr Smith recognised my lack of reading during ‘Use of English’ lessons. He introduced me to many of my favourite books. Each Friday he handed me another book from the shelves in his study. They included, Robinson Crusoe, Moonfleet, Cider with Rosie, Day of the Triffids, The Time Machine and many more. I suspect Mr Smith was also responsible for me being awarded the ‘Herefordshire Prize’ for A Level results in 1971. It was a £10 book token, allowing for inflation it would be worth £150 today. It paid for all the pre-reading books required before entering teacher training. I had transferred from Leominster Green Lane Secondary Modern School at 16 with two others. One of whom is my wife, then Angela Wilson. Apparently applying for Degree courses at University would be the right choice. However, I wanted to teach and thought College was right for me. Worcester College was also near home. It could have been a costly mistake as after Graduation those with Honours degrees were awarded two salary point increases before they even started. That was a considerable sum over 10 years. Very fortunately Birmingham University offered a Honours degree in Education to 4th Year Worcester College students for the first time in 1975. The year in which I also Graduated. It was also quickly apparent that a Degree rather than a Certificate of Education made a huge difference to your job prospects when applying for teaching posts.
This article also reminded of the superb Robinson Crusoe TV series in the 1960s. It was only after searching on Google for the series that I realised it was in black in white, my memories are in colour. The mind is an amazing thing. In some way I had been making memories in colour. I can still hum the music today. Please listen using the link below.

Daniel Defoe
An extract from Daniel Defoe's A Tour Through the Whole Island of Great Britain, 1724 (edited and introduced by Pat Rodgers, Penguin Books, 1978)
Letter 6 - The West and Wales
"From Ludlow we took our course due south to Lemster or Leominster, a large and good trading town on the River Lug. This river is lately made navigable by Act of Parliament to the very great profit of the trading part of this county, who have now a very great trade for their corn, wool and other products of this place, into the river Wye, and from the Wye, into the Severn, and so to Bristol.
"Leominster has nothing very remarkable in it, but that it is a well-built, well inhabited town. The church, which is very large, has been in a manner rebuilt, and is now, especially in the inside, a very beautiful church. This town, besides the fine wool, is noted for the best wheat, and consequently the finest bread; whence Leominster bread and Weobley ale, is become a proverbial saying.
"We are now on the borders of Wales, properly so called for from the windows of Brampton-Castle, you have a fair prospect into the county of Radnor, which as it were, under its walls; nay, even this whole county of Hereford, was, if we may believe antiquity, a part of Wales, and was so esteemed for many ages. The people of this county too, boast that they were a part of the ancient Silures, who for so many ages withstood the Roman arms, and who could never be entirely conquered. But that's an affair quite beyond my enquiry. I observed they are a diligent and laborious people, chiefly addicted to husbandry, and they boast, perhaps not without reason, that they have the finest wool, and the best hops and richest cider in all Britain.
"Indeed the wool about Leominster, and in the Hundred of Wigmore observed above and the Golden Vale, as 'tis called, for its richness on the banks of the river Dore, (all in this county) is the finest without exception, of any in England, the South Downs wool not excepted.
"As for hops, they plant abundance indeed all over this county, and they are very good. And as for cider, here it was that several times for 20 miles together, we could get no beer or ale in their public houses, only cider; and that so very good, so fine and so cheap, that we never found fault with the exchange; great quantities of this cider are sent to London, even by land carriage, though so very remote, which is an evidence for the goodness of it, beyond contradiction.
"From Lemster it is ten miles to Hereford, the chief city, not of this county only, but of all the counties west of Severn. 'Tis a large and populous city, and in the time of the later Rebellion, was very strong, and being well fortified, and as well defended, supported a tedious and very severe siege.
"Coming to Hereford, we could not but enquire into the truth of the story; of the removing of two great stones near Sutton, which the people confirmed to us. The story is thus, between Sutton and Hereford, is a common meadow called the Wergins, where were placed two large stones for a water-mark; one erected upright, and the other laid a-thwart. In the late Civil Wars, about the year 1652, they were removed to about twelve score paces distance, and no body knew how; which gave occasion to the common opinion, that they were carried thither by the Devil. When they were set in their places again, one of them required nine yoke of oxen to draw it.
"It is truly an old, mean built, and very dirty city, lying low, and on the bank of the Wye, which sometimes incommodes them very much, by the violent freshes that come down from the mountains of Wales.
"The great church is a magnificent building, however ancients, the spire is not high, but handsome, and there is a fine tower at the west end, over the great door or entrance. The choir is very fine, though plain, and there is a very good organ.
"From Hereford keeping the back of the Wye as near as we could, we came to Ross, a good old town, famous for good cider, a great manufacture of iron ware, and a good trade on the River Wye, and nothing else as I remember, except it was a monstrous fat woman, who they would have had me gone to see. But I had enough of the relation, and I suppose will the reader for they told me she was more than three yards about her waist; that when she sat down, she was obliged to have a small stool placed before her, to rest her belly on and the like."
In this record of his visit he is far from complementary about Hereford.
With his taste for modernity, Daniel Defoe had some uncomplimentary things to say of IHereford in the second volume of his A Tour thro' the Whole Island of Great Britain ( 1725): 'It is truly an old, mean built and very dirty City, lying low, and on the Banks of the Wye, which sometimes incommodes them very much, by the violent Fresh es that come down from the Mountains of Wales.' Little serious manufacturing went on outside the city, although an ironworks had long been established near Goodrich, lower down the Wye. A single exception was Leominster, the second-largest town, which lay about 12 miles north of the city. No reliable population figures seem to exist, but we might guess that the borough contained something like 2,000 inhabi tants. On this occasion Defoe was able to find a few more positives: 'This Town, besides the fine Wool, is noted for the best Wheat, and consequently the finest Bread; whence Lemster Bread , and Weobley Ale , is become a proverbial saying.' The best-known product was the wool, known as Lemster ore, which carried a high premium in the trade. As late as 1783 it sold for two shillings a pound, whereas ordinary English wool could be had for just fourpence a pound.
