The Visit (1964)
A now-fantastically-wealthy widow (Ingrid Bergman) returns to the impoverished town she was cast out of as a teenage girl to get revenge on the lover who got her pregnant and then abandoned her.
This unusual and little-seen revenge tale feels more like a nightmarish allegory in the same vein as High Noon, The Trial or High Plains Drifter than any other English-language films of the time, with the whole town slowly turning against Anthony Quinn as the promise of riches eats away the morality and social fabric of the community.
A little far-fetched and heavy-handed, it doesn't entirely work but it's powerful and memorable all the same, and definitely worth a watch. Interesting to see Bergman as a villain for a change, and Quinn is particularly good as the everyman paying a terrible price for a youthful mistake.
6.8/10

Hi, I just recently got into DOOM (and found your blog). Do you have any good recommendations for fan doom mods/maps? (they range from the most popular ones to your own personal favorites or little niche levels)
I'm going to see what i can think of because there's always good stuff that not even the Cacowards bring up.
As for mapsets or wads:
Romero's Sigil is obvious as if it should be official.
Memento Mori series
Requiem
Icarus Alien Vanguard
300 minutes of /vr/
Ancient Aliens
Anomaly Report
Alien Vendetta
Back to Saturn X series
Doom 2 Reloaded
Doom 1/2 The Way id Did
Some of the Doomer Board Projects like AUGER;ZENITH and Emerald City
Doom Zero
Doom city which is pretty good for a single map
Epic 2
Good Morning Phobos
Jenesis
Japanese Community Project
Moonblood
Munity
Plutonia 2 and Plutonia Revisited
Rebirth
Scythe 2
TNT Revilution
PhobosDeimos Anomaly
UAC Ultra
Going Down
Doom 64 for Doom 2
Consolation Prize (PS1 Doom and Doom 64 but compatible with gameplay mods)
Whispers of Satan
Note that some of them could be difficult or even have things like DEHACKED enemies or whatever can get in the way of a gameplay mod.
And speaking of gameplay mods:
High Noon Drifter
GMOTA
Combined Arms
Space Hunter
Colorfull Hell
DAKKA
Legions of Bones
Vanilla Doom Plus
Legendoom Lite
MK-Champions
Corruption Cards
TrailBlazer
Project Babel
Supercharge
Samsara
MetaDoom
Doom Delta
D4T
D4V
Final Doomer
Demon Counterstrike
Treasure Tech
Bratwurst
Netronian Chaos
Highway Acceleroid Booster
Eriguns 1/2
Psychic
Cybers Monster Randomizer
La Tailor Girl
Dusted's Pandemonia
Accessories to Murder
Cola 3
Hideous Destructor
Lt Typhon
And for TC stuff
Golden Souls series
Beyong Reality
Strange Aeons
Skulldash
The Edge of Time
REKKR
Reelism 1/2
Adventures of Square
Pirate Doom
StrongHold: Edge of Chaos
Project Uber
Winter's Fury
There's probably still examples i'm missing, so this is what i thought of.
A good way to look for more is see info of people involved like if they have Doomwiki articles or accounts on other websites and see what else they did.
And because this list is already big, you don't have to look most of them right way so feel free to use your time and interest with how you look at them.
Because some of this stuff can be difficult for newcomers like certain wads and mods.
There's also what versions of GZDoom or ZDoom a certain mod could use since some mods might be discontinued while GZDoom gets new updates.
#recommendation#doom#classic doom#id software#someone else's content#doom modding#modding#wad#gzdoom#ask#gameplay mod#map or mapset#total conversion#extra flavor

@aranostra | plotted starter (for ash)
cricket had been working on her daddy's farm since she was old enough to toddle. she knew how to raise and butcher livestock, how to sow seeds and harvest the yield, she knew how to work hard. up with the sun and then into the house to cook dinner before passing out at dusk, resting up for another hard day's work.
farmhands came and went over the years, usually only staying for one season before moving on to greener pastures. this particular year her daddy had hired ash. cricket took a likin' to him instantly-- maybe just because he was close to her age and more handsome than any drifter they'd employed before.
it was a day like any other, the high noon sun burning down on them as they tilled the fields. cricket had a bag of seeds tucked away in her dress, planting them once the soil was prepared and then moving on to the next row. as they made their way towards the center of the field, her hoe hit something a lot harder than dirt.
she dropped to her knees to dig in the land with her hands. and out she pulled it: a large, grotesque book. "hey ash," she called. "take a look at this thing."

westerns?
Westerns are a captivating genre of fiction typically set in the American frontier during the period between the California Gold Rush of 1849 and the closing of the frontier in 1890. These tales often revolve around themes of justice, freedom, rugged individualism, and the national history and identity of the United States. Let’s explore some key characteristics of Westerns:
Stories and Characters:
The classic Western often presents a morality drama, highlighting the conflict between wilderness and civilization.
Male protagonists—drifters, cowboys, or gunslingers—ride horses, armed with revolvers and rifles. They wear iconic Stetson hats, neckerchief bandannas, vests, and cowboy boots with spurs.
Women typically play secondary roles as love interests or provide comic relief. Saloon girls, prostitutes, and pioneer wives also appear.
Recurring characters include Native Americans, African Americans, Chinese Americans, law enforcement officers, outlaws, bartenders, and settlers.
Locations:
Westerns emphasize the harshness of the wilderness. The action unfolds in arid, desolate landscapes—deserts and mountains.
The vastness of the terrain contributes to the genre’s mythic vision of the American West.
Music and Ambience:
Westerns are often punctuated by a distinctive music score, including American folk music and Spanish/Mexican folk tunes.
The genre popularized the Western lifestyle, country-Western music, and Western wear globally.
Subgenres and Evolution:
Some subgenres, like spaghetti Westerns, maintain standard settings and plots.
Others take Western themes into different supergenres, such as neo-Westerns or space Westerns.
Whether it’s a showdown at high noon or a cattle drive across the plains, Westerns continue to captivate audiences with their rugged spirit and timeless tales of the Old West!

...Gonna do it for one of my home-crafted blorbos. Self-indulgence below the cut.
I choose Billy Bob AKA "Hawk Stormeye but PLEASE don't call me that. I don't know what my parents were thinking," modern day marksman, trickshooter, show-off, ten-gallon hat cowboy twink.
(Sketch by my lovely boyfriend <3)
1. Massively! I tend to latch onto an idea and seek out a variety of media influences. Billy Bob was cultured from Belbo from the Hobo Hobo Funni Show, Clover from way back when Undertale Yellow was just a demo in 2016 (and a mod for Rivals of Aether), the Hermit mod from Slay the Spire, James Anderson AKA Marshall from the game Outlaws, and the protagonist of the Doom mod High Noon Drifter.
2. Billy Bob's typical genres are action, comedy, and horror oriented. In those, obviously, he excels. In settings where action isn't really a major factor, he'd be a sterling romantic.
3. Politicking. He has quite literally brought his Colt 1911 Single-Action Army revolver and openly carried it into a diplomatic function. When arguments arose, he fired a warning shot. He's a bit low on patience when it comes to that sort of thing.
4. Billy Bob is fortunate enough to exist in the internet era. While he doesn't do a lot of media, he does appreciate a good comedy or cartoon. He'd probably find Adventure Time and such fascinating and own a Garfield mug.
5. As of right now, the main theme of Outlaws, A Teaspoon of Gunpowder from Undertale Yellow, I Tell Ya What! from Hobo Funni Show, Mr. Weebl's Honk, and, slightly less seriously The Frenzied Firearm, G U N (Paper Maper: The Origami Korigami Cover), etc. Highly emotional individual, usually pretty over-the-top chipper. Can and will take a life.
6. N/A
7. Technically speaking, as a second-generation Welsh immigrant, you could claim he was always cosplaying the Man With No Name at all times. He'd probably make a decent Link, though.
8. Yes. It took him a while to realize the full immensities of his love of cowboys.
9. Fix-fic. So much.
10. Last game I played was Dusk, so he'd be right at home.
I actually like to roleplay as him in various games. Most notably, Doom's Hideous Destructor Mod (pair of revolvers and either the double-barrel or the bolt-action rifle and you're good) and Teardown (shotgun, what looks like a revolver, and a hunting rifle, all mapped to the 3 key).
11. I have an entire AU version of him for my boyfriend's magical girl setting. In that setting, his "magical girl transformation" turns him into a lightning-themed cowboy with a six-shooter. Bullets that carry an electric charge, fired from a hard-light six shooter with enough force to blow through an inch of steel sheet and not stop and enough charge to leave any survivors stunned. It's also a whip because that's his signature non-gun weapon and that kind of this is pretty normal for the setting. He's also just straight up fast.
12. N/A, not familiar with it.
13. Mudsdale, Tauros, Herdier. Probably also wants a Rapidash.
14. There's a few options, off the top of my head. Fighter gives him the best ability to fan the hammer, artificer matches up with some of his hobbies, which include smithing and shoeing, and ranger has a homebrew option from Pointy Hat specifically for cowboys.
He'd probably want to play a ranger or rogue. Something dex-based. High Charisma.
Or bard. And he'd sing at the table.
15. Depends on what you mean by "standard slasher movie." He's not exactly the type of character to get "final girl" status, so if the main metric of survival is authorial bias and I'm not writing it, he'd probably get screwed by the author for being bisexual, promiscuous, and trigger-happy.
If "standard slasher movie" just means "He's been chucked into Dead By Daylight, but the Entity forgot to frisk him for weapons," then he's going big game hunting.
Michael Myers was temporarily knocked out from a full cylinder dump from a S&W Model 15 .38 Special, followed by a fall from the second floor, and that was scattered shots across his upper torso. Sure, he's tough, but a bear can generally survive the same encounter just fine. No bear is surviving 5 consecutive headshots from a Winchester .308.
16. Drop-in uncle for the younger characters. Token white guy.
17. Banjo & Kazooie and the Duck Hunt Duo. He may also like Zero Suit Samus.
18. Strikes me as a Donkey Kong main.
19. Horrifyingly hard to kill red shirt.
20. Charmer and hitter.
21. He's absolutely the type of revenant that crawls out of Hell after holding up the Devil... and immediately goes back to living it up on Earth.
22. Firebender, if he has to be a bender. He strikes me as the type who wouldn't HAVE bending, but would make up for it in other ways.
23. Step one is to make sure his guns can still be maintained and utilized somehow. If magic exists that renders ammo a non-issue, he's going to over the moon to be the first known Gun Wizard. After that, he'll likely go looking for ways to return home while making sure not to hand out his name. "That's how the aos si getcha, 'ccordin' to mah pa!"
Probably not all that noticeable in the grand scheme of things. Just another adventurer with a somewhat unusual weapon.
24. Trick question! If played by a human actor, we're getting a full Tim Curry "I Am Also a Muppet" experience or they don't get the role. Otherwise, VERY Muppet.
25. It's a bullseye. A gun might send the wrong message, and it would be vetoed by the censors.
26. If he's singing in a musical and it isn't something written by Johnny Cash, then something it probably wrong. That said, whatever it is, he's EXTREMELY into it.
27. God, it's hard to choose, but I'll have to say he's the red herring. "The Best Gunslinger This Side of the Mississippi" with a known hair-trigger temper and open-carry license in the same building as someone with gunshot wounds? Seems too likely to be false.
28. Lemme fetch a generator... "Blazeheart," I guess? Definitely the type of cat to mooch off humans and scare gators off your porch.
29. Well, normally, he'd crack a joke and say that he'd be a human in any universe, and a beast-tamer all the same, wink wink nudge nudge, but if he HAS to give a real answer in the next five seconds or lose his brain privileges, he's a squirrel.
Pop Culture and Fandom-Themed OC Questions
I came up with some pop culture-y OC questions because I like silly OC games. Some of these are more general, while others are for a specific genre or piece of media. Go ahead and reblog to use for your own OCs!
Was your OC influenced or inspired by any particular fictional character(s) when you made them?
What genre (not counting the one they’re in) would your OC thrive in?
What genre would your OC do badly in but it would be hilarious or interesting to watch?
What media does your character enjoy? (For characters in settings that aren’t modern Earth, could be media from their home setting or what they’d like in a modern Earth AU)
What song(s) do you associate with your OC?
Alternatively, do you have any OCs you associate with the song(s) I just sent you?
If your OC had to cosplay as a fictional character, who would they choose?
Has your OC ever had a crush on a fictional (to them) character?
If your OC wrote fanfiction (or if they already do), what type? (fix fic, ship, crossovers, AUs, smut, etc.)
How would your OC do in the last book/movie/tv show/game/etc. you read/watched/played?
If your OC was a superhero, what would they be like? (powers, title, general vibe, etc.)
What animal would your OC have as their His Dark Materials daemon?
What Pokémon would be on your OC’s team and/or what would be their preferred type?
If your OC was a Dungeons and Dragons character, what would their class be? And/or: If they were playing D&D, what kind of character might they play? (these aren’t necessarily the same thing)
How well would your OC do in a standard slasher movie?
What stock character would your OC be stuck as in a sitcom?
Who would your OC main in Super Smash Bros?
Who would your OC play in Mario Kart?
If your OC was in Star Trek’s Starfleet, what would be their role/position? Or, if that doesn’t really fit your OC: why would they get kicked out of Starfleet?
What role would your OC play in a heist story?
What kind of classic horror monster (vampire, werewolf, alien, etc.) would your OC be?
What type of Avatar The Last Airbender-type bender (or non-bender) would your OC be? Any bending specialties?
Your OC gets isekai’d to a bog-standard fantasy world. What does your OC do and how badly does it go for that world?
In the Muppet version of your story, is this particular OC a Muppet or the one human?
What would be your OC’s My Little Pony cutie mark?
Your OC is stuck in a musical episode. What song(s) do they sing? (And how thrilled or annoyed are they about being stuck in a musical?)
In a murder mystery, what role would your OC play? (e.g. detective, sidekick, wacky suspect, rival investigator who gets in thew way, red herring, true culprit)
What is your OC’s Warrior Cats name?
Gun to their head, what is your OC’s fursona?

Being plagued by cowboy au so lets go i guess
--
The bar was full of laughter and chit chat around Ciro, who was seated at the counter with his good friend. She was the town's premier seamstress, and the two had known each other for years. They were discussing a recent customer of her's, when Ciro heard the door to the bar open behind them. He was curious to see who was arriving late, only to be met with the sight of a rather dashing young man.
His dark, almost purple-toned hair was tousled from the wind that howled outside, and those electric blue eyes could rival even the brightest high-noon skies.
--
Okay im too lazy to write everything out in full detail right now so heres the gist of it
--
It starts when ciro is at the bar with Yoai (timeframe, I would say late 1880's? There are trains and things like that, and the town is pretty developed, but yknow it's still a primarily farming and agriculture town, drifters still show up from time to time and all) and kaisei slips in. He's a drifter coming to town in the early spring looking for work. He happens to catch Ciro's eye, and Yoai nudges to go talk to him, and well
Our story begins.
They get to talking, and Ciro finds out that Kaisei is looking to work as a farmhand, as that's what he's used to. Ciro knows his father often hires on someone willing to work in the summers to help out at the ranch, and suggests he swing by in the morning - he'll put in a good word to his father in advance even. So he goes, and the father hires him to work as ranch hand (helping out with the fields and livestock - the latter being mornings and evenings since he's staying in a small room next to the barn). I imagine Ciro's father built that as an area for summer help to stay, he doesn't want single men staying in his house given he does have a daughter as well, Ciro's sister.
(Except it's not his daughter Kaisei becomes interested in coughs)
So of course Ciro's father is the one who shows Kaisei the ropes to begin with, but then after that he has Ciro work with him to keep an eye on him while he goes about his own farm duties. And it's during that time that they get to know each other better.
For example, I think of them during break times sitting under some of the nearby trees in a small stand on the edge of the field drinking lemonade and having a snack (graciously provided by Ciro's sister and mother). Ciro's sister works in town and is actually responsible for earning money between harvest times, but during the summers she'll have times off and she'll help them out on the farm.
At first (like really at first), she does think Kaisei is a handsome man, and she's kind of interested in him. In fact, one evening she goes out to see him just out of curiosity.
Except she sees him and Ciro sitting together beyond the fields, next to a small campfire. She watches them from afar, their laughter and conversation muffled by the distance. When she sees Kaisei lay his head down on Ciro's lap, she knows.
And this might not be realistic but demon boys on a farm in the 1880's isn't realistic so fuck it.
Ciro's family views his preference for men as just a whatever kind of thing. His sister jokes about it sometimes, saying things like he better not take all the good men that show up for himself lol. His father actually said something about it that I thought was interesting, "As long as he works to take care of what I've built up here with integrity, it makes no damn bit of difference to me whether he lays with a man, a woman, or no one at all." (Possibly in response to something someone had said in town after a certain incident Ciro had with the mayor's son as a youth of 17, anyways)
Back to the evening campfire scene.
Ciro's sister (god she needs a name) goes back inside, we're still out with the two of them. Kaisei is looking up at Ciro, and he can't help but think he looks like an angel. The way his laughter fills the air with comfort, the twinkle in his bright green eyes, and that wonderfully soft flaxen hair he yearns to feel on his fingertips...
But he probably keeps those desires hidden for a while. While he's a drifter, he did have lovers in past towns. However, they usually ended in some form of heartbreak - either by him leaving or something happening between them before that. He's always wanted a lover that could make him stay, but he simply hadn't met that man yet. And he would be mighty choked up to say that he didn't wish Ciro could be the one he sticks around for.
After seeing how Kaisei behaves around her brother, I imagine she does get him alone at some point. And at first he's apologizing - she's a lovely woman, but he doesn't...he doesn't typically court ladies. She laughs, saying that isn't at all why she wants to talk to him.
"I'd be blind to not notice the sparkle in your eyes looking at my brother."
Kaisei's cheeks bloom scarlet, and he sighs - he's used to the judgement of others for this sort of thing. But she doesn't condemn him, rather, she tells him that Ciro fancies him as well. She says he can do with that what he will, but do not tell Ciro that she told him about it. She'll never hear the end of it otherwise.
"You seem like an upstanding man, for a drifter. I don't think I'd mind a brother in law if it were you." To which Kaisei scoffs and hides his reddening face with his bandana. Perfect timing to end the conversation, as Ciro has made his way back and they get back to work - Kaisei now much more aware of Ciro's actions towards him.
--
One dusky evening in July, Ciro and Kaisei are hanging around the barn - the waning sunlight bathing them in a soft orange glow. Ciro knows he has to go, but he just can't seem to leave Kaisei's side. He offers to take him somewhere they can see droves of fireflies, his favorite spot to relax on a warm summer night.
"It's a magical sight, Kaisei - I'm sure you would love to see it."
It is a little ways to the south of the ranch by a small pond, and Ciro suggests they take a horse that way. Kaisei saddles up his steed and says "I'll lead him, but you need to tell me where to."
With that, possibly with the render I was plagued by happens, and they make their way to the secret little sweet spot. As Ciro promised, there's hoards of fireflies lighting up the darkness and reflecting in the shimmering pool of water. They sit and take in the sight together, and Kaisei's hand creeps towards Ciro's...
Only to be met with his hand being grasped first. Ciro sighs, resting his head on Kaisei's shoulder. They turn to face each other, so close and softly illuminated by the green glow of the little bugs, and Kaisei reaches his other hand around to hold that angelic face before leaning in to close the space between their lips.
One thing leads to another, and they end up lying on the ground with Ciro on top of him, hands searching for the buttons of their shirts to caress each other's skin.
All of that is brought to a screeching halt when Ciro's sister rides up on one of their horses in a panic. She exclaims that Luna, one of their prized sheep and the one that Ciro had raised since she was born, has gone missing from the fields. Ciro jumps up, quickly trying to button his shirt back up to leave, and Kaisei is right behind him. All three of them ride back to the ranch where they see the father standing out looking in the direction of the field where Luna went missing.
Ciro jumps down and runs to him, frantically asking him what happened and where Luna could be, to which he has a solemn look on his face.
"The only places I can think she ran off to are those open prairies to the north. Going out that way at this time means meeting a pack of coyotes, without a doubt. I'm sorry, Ciro."
But Ciro isn't about to let his sheep die without at least trying to save her. His father and sister try to tell him it's too dangerous, and Kaisei is kind of caught between them. Ciro looks at him with these pleading eyes, before grabbing his wrist and asking him through choked tears to please help him.
He just can't say no to that face.
The father shakes his head, before hustling over to the front porch of the house, hurrying inside and coming back out - he hands Kaisei a shotgun, to which he slings it over his shoulder before taking Ciro's hand and helping him back up onto his horse.
He knows in that moment that Ciro's father is trusting him to bring his son back in one piece, sheep or no sheep.
They ride out in the direction Luna most likely took off to, and Kaisei pulls his horse to a stop when they hear a soft bleat in the distance. Ciro dismounts and follows the sound, Kaisei following behind him, keeping an eye on their surroundings. Ciro is able to find Luna among the tall grass and immediately takes her in his arms. Suddenly, he hears rustling behind him and a low growl. His heart catches in his throat.
Coyote.
In less than a second, he hears a gunshot and then the dying whimpers of the wild canine. As he turns to face the noise, Kaisei grabs his arm to pull him over and tells him they have to go now. There was only the one in the field, but they both know better - where there's one, a pack isn't far behind. He repositions Luna in his arms and they run as fast as they can back to the horse - Kaisei gets up first, Ciro boosting Luna up and then pulling himself into the saddle on the adrenaline rush they're both experiencing.
When they finally make it back to the ranch, Ciro's sister rushes up to hug him the moment he and Luna were on the ground. She had been worried since they rode off, but hearing the gunshot and not knowing what caused it was tearing her apart. They were a family that knew better than to fuck with coyotes given some grave past experiences, but fortunately in this case, all's well that ended well.
Kaisei, still a bit shaky, hands the shotgun back to Ciro's father. To which, he sets the gun down and pulls Kaisei in for one of those hugs that's not really a hug but an intense hand grab and then pulled into a hug? It's hard to describe. But he does that, and quietly thanks him. This is a moment when he makes up his mind that Kaisei truly is a good man.
Kaisei helps Ciro get Luna back to the barn and settled in, and Ciro is knelt down talking softly to and brushing her, while Kaisei leans in the doorway watching him. His heart is still beating fast, but by now he's not sure if it's from the scare with this sheep, or if what was happening before it all is just catching up to him...
Ciro finally stands up and glances over at the man standing in the dim light of the lanterns, casting a shaky, orange light on the surrounding area and the only two human inhabitants. He walks over to Kaisei before wrapping his arms around the taller man. Another thank you, but this time, it sends a shiver up his spine - his hand finds its way around the back of Ciro's head, brushing his fingers through his feathery hair. They hold each other tightly, before Ciro mumbles something against Kaisei's shoulder.
Pulling away just enough to be heard, he repeats himself,
"Sleep with me."
After feeling his heart skip, Kaisei replies, " That whole ordeal really got your blood boiling, huh?"
Ciro chuckles softly and looks up at him, his eyes drawn to those lips that he only barely got to taste. He lifts his hands up to hold Kaisei's face and kisses him tenderly, pressing himself close to the man that's stolen his heart with that handsome face and heroic visage.
--
As the summer goes along, the two become closer and closer. It doesn't go unnoticed that Ciro comes back to the house late, and sometimes not at all.
One early morning, before the sun's had a chance to peer it's light into the small room where the two of them slept, Kaisei woke up and took in the feeling of Ciro resting against him.
'To have your warmth by me is to know heaven without dying. God must have pitied my lonely wandering, and sent his best angel to keep me right where I am.'
How badly he wished to stay here with the only lover to convince him that settling down could be worthwhile, but as the days grew colder and the harvest drew to a close, he knew there was a bitter end in sight. In spite of the warmth Ciro's sleeping body gave him, it felt as though the cold hand of nature had wrapped itself around his heart, threatening to pull it out the moment it had the chance.
'Lord, don't force me to leave the angel you've given me.'
--
It was noon one October day when the final bundle of the harvest was loaded into the wagon. Kaisei put his arms against the side and leaned forward, peering sideways over at the older man next to him. He knew what was coming - it always did, sooner or later.
"That's the last of it. I'll take it into town and you'll get your last payment for all the work you've done for me."
He must have noticed the way Kaisei was gazing out at the barn, where they both knew Ciro was feeding the animals and cleaning out their pens. Clearing his throat, he asks,
"Where do plan on wandering to next?"
"Don't know, never really do. Wherever the roads take me, I guess."
"'Bout a week's ride south, you'll find a small town that's fertile for growing different crops all year round. They're always looking for help, far as I know."
Turning to face the young man next to him, he put one hand on his hip and studied the look of dread Kaisei was trying so desperately to hide.
"Course, I'm sure there's work in town here. Some folks get even busier come the winter months. I know Ciro's lady friend in town, the seamstress, always has extra work she could use a hand with, what with everyone's winter clothes getting torn and worn out from the year of use round here."
Kaisei listened carefully, not wanting to get his hopes up, but...
"I'm sure the animals would miss your friendly greetings in the morning and evenings too. And that little room just sits there looking sad and empty in the winter, would be nice to see it occupied rather than rotting away for half the year."
He gives one quick nod towards the barn, "And I know the animals won't be the only ones missing you."
--
Ciro stepped out into the cool, late afternoon, the warmth of the barn to his back before he turned to shut the door, making sure the animals didn't catch a chill. He couldn't help but stare at the small building next to the barn, the one he'd never spent much time in until this past summer; a place ripe with memories that made his chest ache thinking how soon they would be nothing more than that - bittersweet memories.
Before he realized it, he was seated on the straw-filled mattress and running his hand over the quilted bedspread. How many nights had he spent in this bed with Kaisei after that first one? It'd be easier to take away the nights he hadn't spent there than count the ones he had.
Looking around the small room, he could see two small bags with the few belongings Kaisei had brought with him sitting on the floor by the door. The rest of the little room was bare, those little bags the only sign someone had spent any time here in the past several months.
He laid himself on the worn quilt, and buried his face in the soft, down pillow. Underneath the smell of straw and earth, he recognized the unmistakable scent of his lover - the only other evidence that Kaisei had ever been here at all. Ciro choked back a sob that had been welling up in him ever since the early morning, and unable to hold it in anymore, let himself surrender to his overwhelming feelings until he fell fast asleep.
--
It wasn't long before his eyes fluttered open, telling from the orange sun rays shining through the one window on the west side of the room. As he moved to get up, he could feel arms around his waist pull him back down, close to the body behind him. It didn't take two guesses to know who it was.
"Where do you think you're goin'?" That smooth, all too familiar voice whispered into his ear. Ciro shuddered, just the closeness dredging up those aching feelings he thought he had spent earlier.
"You won't make this easy on me, will you? You'll make me miss every moment right up until the last," he spat. Ciro was never one to take things ending lightly, and he knew this would be the hardest ending he'd ever face. He wished Kaisei would make it easier by just disappearing - "goodbye" simply felt too final for him, too painful to keep around as a last memory of the happiest summer of his life.
"I know this is the end, please just..."
"What if it doesn't have to be?"
Ciro tensed, before turning to face Kaisei who was laying on his back, arms now resting behind his head. What did he mean by that? There was no way he could leave with him, not as the one slated to take over the ranch after his father passes.
"Turns out your father offered me to stay right here through the winter, and from then on as long as I'd like. Said the poor animals would miss me far too much if I were gone, so I figure I won't break their little hearts,"
The smaller man gawked at him; was he really joking at a time like this? Could he not tell how much pain his leaving would cause him, and that making pie-in-the-sky remarks wasn't helping?
Kaisei peeked at him, and chuckled.
"Well, much as that's all true I'm sure,"
He reaches up to caress Ciro's cheek, tracing down his jaw before holding his chin.
"I don't think God would forgive me if I left the angel he sent down to cure my wandering loneliness."
Ciro placed his hand over Kaisei's, still not sure what to think of all this.
"You really mean it?"
"Wouldn't get your hopes up if I didn't."
--
And then they live happily ever after bc im tired of writing this now and cannot go on any longer.

Hey, do you have any plans to update High Noon Drifter or you think this mod is already finished?
I’d like to. Pipe dream is to add Strife support to High Noon Drifter, with maybe an extra weapon to fill in the weapon roster.
That is, however, pure pipe dream. Whether or not it’ll actually happen is a gamble. Wrestling with Strife is not a pleasant business.
Hege Cactus finished up a full set of Basilissa rotations that I’d like to slot in, but doing an update just for that seems a little limp.

Just wanted to draw High Noon Drifter and his sidekick Basilissa, because it's a damn fun mod!
I own both Red Dead Redemptions and I still rather play a Doom western mod. Try it out !
